Okay so I haven’t read lance angst in forever and decided to read some and I have just binge read all of the Beauty and the Beast klance au you just made and I absolutely ADORE it!!! It is so amazing and I love it so much!

It did make me curious what the whole ‘rescue’ scene is going to be, is the three people in the family who didn’t want Lance to marry the prince try to save him? Or is it going to go the totally different direction?

Cause I can imagine a scene where the village sees that Lance and Keith are actually going to work out and the family gets worried that Lance is going to try to get revenge on them/the whole village so they try to take Lance away from Keith. Or try to make it so Lance wouldn’t become King when they actually get married!

But anyways yeah I love this story, and how you’ve changed it up a bit so it’s different that the original Beauty and the Beast! Thanks for listening to my rant!

HERE WE GO:

important to remember: lance’s family, although not conventionally, care for him deeply. he struggles to conform to what the town expects and they are scared for him, so they struggle to make space for him in a way that makes him feel loved and included. he can’t keep up with his fathers or brothers on the farm, he gets along with animals better than people (and as such refuses to hunt them, despite his stellar aim), he has no friends because he is an Odd Person, he gets obsessive over small things, he cries all the time, he’s headstrong, he argues with everyone, he’s a klutz, just…so many things. he has skills and they know that but his skills aren’t helpful in the context of the farm. he is, however, helpful in that he can send back money from marrying the prince, and if he’s married to the prince, his family knows he’s safe and cared for in a way they maybe can’t provide for him.

with this in mind it’s obvious that there’s a lot of tension and complication between lance and his family, but lance KNOWS that they love him. take the first chapter with lance and marco, for example. it looks bad and it is bad, and lance is hurt, and marco refuses to help lance do what he desperately wants — go home. but marco isn’t doing it without guilt, and he’s also doing his best to make lance’s transition easier: “You’ve always wanted to live in a castle, right?”. despite the fact that his home life isn’t perfect, lance is in that castle missing his family. he wants his sisters and nieces and nephews and brothers. he wants his mom. they may not understand him but they love him and he knows that, and in that castle with, and i can’t say this enough, NO OTHER PEOPLE, he is going to miss shit like getting hugged, for fucks sake. lance is a touchy person and as close as he and hunk are doing to become hunk is a Literal Block Of Wood, and keith is going to be too closed off to provide any tactile affection for a While.

my plan is that after a few chapters of slowburn and building friendships, lance is going to get all morose and miserable. and keith, who is well beyond whipped at that point, is going to want to help. so one day lance is going to muster the courage to ask to have his family for a visit (“They’ll stay outside! I swear! They’ll have no chance of even seeing you, Keith, please, I missed bothering my brothers so much —”) and keith won’t even come close to denying him.

and because chekhov’s gun is the only thing i’ve got locked and loaded, obviously one of lances family members (probably one of the kids) is going to go wandering inside. and lance is going to try to stop it but it will be Too Late. they’re going to see keith and freak out, and since keith’s freak outs are very scary, it’s going to make the whole situation worse, and they’re going to drag lance back home kicking and screaming and when they come back with with the town and pitchforks.

the gaston of the story is going to be james, i think, and i’m gonna change the story a bit bc i’m gonna spend longer with lance back in town and he’s sullen and furious and desperate to convince everyone that keith is kind and soft and loving, really, and they have him all wrong. which of course does not help his case. but you all know how the rest of the story goes

but yeah!!!! i’m really very excited i love this story too, and changing it was inevitable but it’s been super fun to plan how i’m gonna adapt it!! i’m rly looking forward to writing all the sappy falling in love parts teehee

his name is E'li Leam (pronounced EE-lie Leem) and he's a Miqo'te from that MMO i really like FFXIV 🤩

Miqo'te are basically cat people (WHICH I MEAN. I GUESS I'M A FURRY NOW?? OK), and he's what's called a Seeker, AKA SUN CAT!! There's moon cat people too but don't worry about it.

Seekers have names that start with their tribe letter (26 in total, each one representing one letter of the alphabet), so for example Raha of the G tribe would be called G'raha. Only close friends and family can drop the tribe letter and call them their given name! Male seekers will also have either Tia or Nuhn after their names, with most being Tias! This is because Nuhns fuck like crazy and are the only ones who are allowed to LMFAO

anyway E'li is your typical 32 year old shonen protagonist who woke up ~7 years ago with Retrograde Amnesia and was found in a giant forest by its resident magic rats

THESE FUCKIN THINGS. they're called moogles. if you've ever played a final fantasy game, you know these guys. ANYWAY they saw this random grown ass man with a GIANT SCABBED OVER HEAD WOUND who wouldn't respond to anything they said and were like "hey let's take care of him kupo, lol"

AND FOR MONTHS THEY LOOKED AFTER HIM. ate together. snoozed in cuddle puddles together. got fucked up on Kupo Nuts together. it was wild. they found him with a big ol explorer's backpack, and alongside a White Mage Soul Crytal (RARE AND PRICELESS ARTIFACT ALLOWING ITS OWNER TO ADEPTLY WIELD CURATIVE MAGICKS!!), they found a shitty harp inside with A NAME CARVED ON THE SIDE.........

THE NAME...?!? "Eli". there was a notch in the wood that MIGHT have been an apostrophe?? they're moogles though they don't really give a shit. SO THEY JUST START CALLING HIM E'LI.

Pronounced EE-Lie.

The correct pronunciation of E'li by Seeker standards is EH-Lie.

This incorrect pronunciation of his own name would routinely cause him significant embarrassment down the line.

anyway. They're fond of their weird little man, but after a few months the moogles are like, "hey if he's really good at healing magicks and we can't teach him how to read or write, maybe let's give him to the people in the Quarrymill. They'll take care of him." and so they deposited their Weird Son into the care of the people of the Quarrymill, who essentially hired him on as the resident healer in exchange for food/shelter/education because HOLY SHIT,

THIS GUY CAN HEAL!!!

you wander near him with an injury? BOOM he's there and suddenly ALL THAT AILS YE BE NO MORE!!

whatever life he lead prior to his severe head injury clearly included healing people. he also took to reading and writing extremely quickly, so it was assumed he was some kind of scholar?? Though he wasn't particularly fond of speaking, and learned Eorzean Sign Language because VOCALIZATIONS WERE WEIRD AND BAD.

so this guy spends like half a year there. DEVOURING BOOKS. Learning of the World At Large. Starts longing to see the rest of it.. the Quarrymill residents are hesitant to let their Weird Little Man go, but accept it & tell him he must call himself E'li Tia to all who ask.

(In his mind Tia and Nuhn both sound incredibly stupid, so he decides his surname will be Leam A.K.A LEAF ---> BUT ONE LETTER CHANGED. ((he was looking at a tree when he decided this, and it would ALSO cause him no end of embarrassment down the line)))

SUDDENLY, GOD (A SENTIENT CRYSTAL IN THE CENTER OF THE PLANET) REACHES OUT TO HIM AND IS LIKE HI. LISTEN GO OUT THERE AND SAVE THE WORLD.

E'li is like o..k... and starts his journey to become an Adventurer.....

and then gets to a place called Limsa Lominsa which SCARES THE SHIT OUT OF HIM, THEN IMMEDIATELY GOES BACK TO THE GIANT FOREST PLACE AND DOESN'T LEAVE.

GOD CRYSTAL actually told a DIFFERENT set of people to go save the world like FIVE YEARS AGO, and a bunch of stuff happened but TLDR; GOD CRYSTAL'S GROUP OF CHOSEN HEROS WHO ONCE TRIED TO SAVE THE REALM BUT WERE SPIRITED AWAY...!!!

find the strange little healing cat man one day during their adventures. their leader, Meteor (!!!!!! YES MR MAIN CHARACTER GUY HIMSELF), looks at him and this is how their meeting went:

and SO BEGAN THE JOURNEY OF THESE FIVE WARRIORS OF LIGHT, WHO WOULD GO ON TO SAVE THE REALM FROM MANY DIRE THREATS...

THEN METEOR DIES, E'LI THREATENS TO KILL THE OTHERS ON SIGHT FOR LETTING THEIR LEADER DIE, BANISHES THEM FROM THE SCIONS OF THE SEVENTH DAWN (a group of characters who like.. do good stuff For The Realm and all that), AND PROCEEDS TO SPEEDRUN PTSD AS THE NOW SOLE WARRIOR OF LIGHT

buncha stuff happens... E'li goes to War, does PTSD: The Again, GETS ISEKAI'D and does Saving the World: 2 but THIS time his best friend he made just before the God Crystal Group disbanded shows up and is like "I'M GOING TO DIE FOR YOU!" and he's like "???? I'M LITERALLY INSANE CAN YOU PLEASE NOT MAKE IT WORSE"

buncha OTHER stuff happens...

and currently him and his Best Friend (he didn't actually die) are now life partners who just want to go on adventures and take naps together.

BY THE WAY, HE DOESN'T ACTUALLY HAVE RETROGRADE AMNESIA IN THE CONVENTIONAL SENSE. GOD CRYSTAL ACTUALLY JUST YOINKED A 1500 YEAR OLD SOUL FROM THE AETHERIAL SEA (THE AFTERLIFE BUT IT'S REAL, AND IS INSIDE THE PLANET), MADE A COPY OF METEOR'S BODY, MADE IT A CAT MAN, SHOVED THE SOUL IN IT, THEN SHUNTED IT BACK UNTO THE MORTAL COIL TO GO FIGHT FOR HER. HE LANDED HEAD FIRST ONTO A FUCKIN ROCK AND SHE WAS LIKE "OOF, MY B. ANYWAY I'LL BE IN TOUCH"

when he realizes this, E'li decides he is not fond of god crystal.

AND SO THAT IS THE GIST OF MY LITTLE BLORBO. my pathetic little man. my sweet cheese, my rotten soldier etc etc. HE'S KIND OF A FREAK and i absolutely adore him.

ANYWAYS OF COURSE?? It's lowkey my favorite au I just suffer from a very serious illness caused commitment issues 😔 its tragic

Lance is 21, Keith 23, Shiro and Adam 29, and Krolia ans Texas are young at heart

Lance picked up Kosmo when he was a puppy while he was still traveling by car in the beginning of the zombie apocalypse

The zombie apocalypse started when a asteroid crashed into earth, containing frozen alien bacteria inside of it. Humans obviously snooped, samples collected and vials broke, and some poor bloke ended up eating a shitty lab served hamburger with a side of zombie virus!

Zombie apocalypse started in Cuba for the sole reason of angst 🤗

Lance was a med student in NYC before the zombie outbreak, and spent the first two months (its a miracle America didn't go to shit before that) helping in hospitals. Things got so dire it didn't even matter how long yoi were in med school for, hospitals were actively begging for help.

Hunk was in Hawaii at the time of the outbreak, which was a rare part of the world largely left unaffected. In the sense there were no zombies.

Shiro hasn't lost his arm (yet) but he served in the military, same with Adam.

Krolia was special forces in the military. She's like a modern day ninja.

Texas was a police man then fireman, but was largely a stay at home dad once Keith was born.

Shiro is the son of a friend Texas adopted after they died, and technically knew Texas before he even met Krolia.

Adam is from Spain and moved to America after his parents cut him off/disowned him for being gay.

Lance is the oldest sibling! He has (had) 6 younger sisters

The Koganes don't know nearly as much as Lance about zombies bc they managed to fortify their farm and live there for the first 5 months of the zombie apocalypse. They start moving toward DC after receiving a transmission from Matt to head there.

Lance was able to keep in regular contact with Pidge and Hunk before the internet finally went down 3 months into the apocalypse. Pidge tells him to head to DC.

Lance ends up from NYC to Alabama after the internet went down bc he can't read a physical map and Google maps stopped working.

Lance managed to travel by car for 4 months before he realized it was way too loud and had to ditch it.

Krolia advocates so strongly for Lance to stay with them bc she is literally like "omg a baby!"

Texas is willing to go along with anything his beautiful wife's says

Texas killed his first zombie simply bc Krolia told him to, no questions asked. He didn't even know it was a zombie. Krolia was like "kill that bastard!" And Texas was deadass like "yes my queen"

Lance didn't really have to teach Kosmo anything, he kind of just picked things up and did them.

Kosmo is the main reason Lance is alive. Kosmo listens and smells the zombies and alerts Lance.

While mindless, the zombies still have the instincts to avoid the sun as it speeds up the decaying process, thus leading to zombies being more active at night.

Zombies cannot see, they lose this as soon as they turn, but newly turned zombies can hear for the first few months before they decay too badly. At around the 6-7 month mark is when smelling is their only sense left. Despite being dead, they're very strong. They lack the coordination to run fast, but retain the instincts required to hunt.

ok, i just need to put out there that this is the first time i've ever written something relatively close to fanfiction, so it's shitty and a little ooc for some of the characters (especially keith ngl). anyways here a small klance oneshot but it's dialogue only!! btw no tw that ik of, but lmk if there's something i should add a tw for! it was written as a school project, so there shouldn't be anything!! enjoy my shit writing, everyone :)

L: “How- how did you find me?”

K: “You’ve got to be kidding me. You’re joking, right?”

L: “Uhhhhh….. yes?”

K: “Oh my God you’re being serious, haha! Wow, I did not take you as the dense type.”

L: “Hey! For your information I am very perceptive when I need to be!”

K: “Yeah our lives are kind of in danger right now? I’d take that as a time where perceptiveness is needed! And you obviously didn’t take that perceptiveness into consideration when you practically announced to the world where you were going due to how loud you ran.”

L: “..Touche.”

K: “Anyways, do you have any information on our enemy?”

L: “All I know is that we’re outnumbered. By, like, a lot. We’re the only ones left.”

K: “...Oh.”

L: “Yeah, how’s that for perceptiveness!?”

K: “Point taken, but this isn’t the time to argue! The enemy could be close and be ready to snipe us, and we can’t afford to lose this war.”

L: “Alright. Do you have a plan?”

K: “Well, you know how I said they could be ready to snipe us at any moment?”

L: “I think I see where you’re going with this, K.”

K: “Thankfully, we have a sharpshooter of our own. The only way we can win at this point is to ambush them. They’ve got 5 people, right? I think I’ll be able to pull off leading them together with some distractions, and once they’re all together, you can pick them off from above.”

L: “This is going to be so fun!”

K: “Remember to stay serious, L… But let’s destroy them.”

H: “Dude, we’ve been walking around for forever and there’s still no sign of anyone. Did we take them all out? I feel like we would have known if we took them all out.”

P: “Yeah, we would have. They’re either really good at this or have no clue what to do, and I’m going with the latter.”

*TING, TING, CLATTER*

H: “What was that? P please, what was that?!”

P: “Calm down!! Finding out where they are is literally our job, H. It sounded like it came from roughly 10 o'clock, but from above due to how long it took to hit the ground. Let’s go back east and tell the others”

A: “H, P! Why are you two over here? I thought your orders from S were to stay separate from the group.”

H: “Yeah, well we know where the enemy is and it's literally on the complete other side, soooooo yeah.”

P: “One of them dropped something, and I thought I heard someone quietly curse under their breath, so they’re def disorganized. ”

C: “Awesome, S isn’t terribly far away so we should regroup and come up with a game plan.”

A: “Let’s go then! We must win!”

K: “Beep. They’re heading over to their leader now, L. You in position? Beep.”

L: “Beep. Never been more ready, K. Beep.”

K: “Beep. Alright then, good luck. I’m counting on you. Beep.”

S: “C just filled me in, great job on finding their location H and P.”

A: “P said that what they dropped sounded like it came from above, so we should ambush from behind and on the same level, instead of from underneath.”

C: “Sounds reasonable enough to me, does anyone have anything else to add?”

H: “Nope!”

P: “Nothing here, let go get th-”

S: “What?! They’re behind us? Everyone, ready you-”

P: “Are they….. Actually getting along? I thought for sure their arguing would be their downfall.”

S: “Well, we’ve just got to not underestimate them anymore. Good game guys, you proved us wrong.”

Honestly, there's so much I want to ask about! For now, I'll start by asking how the fic came about in the first place? Like, seeing that this is your first JJK fic, why now? Why this setting with this particular fandom? I would just love to pick your brains on how the fic formed! Did you spend quite a bit of time plotting it out? Or did it reveal itself to you fully formed in a dream? With how quickly you're getting it onto the page, I can't imagine it was the former!

uh. so im a relatively new f1 fan - casual throughout 2022, when they played the races in the bar i worked, and then a much bigger fan in 2023 - i watched drive to survive fully and yeah... it spiralled. charles leclerc and ferrari got their little grubby hands on my neck and chokeslammed me. i am forever changed.

i got into jjk around the same time - tiktok just kept putting vids of them being angsty and gay on my fyp and i caved and watched the anime earlier this year. i must confess i gave up around shibuya - i am verrrryyyy behind on the anime, lol, but i know all the spoilers because.. twitter. lol.

i got the itch to write an f1 au of .. SOMETHING. i very almost wrote one of banana fish (and i still might, as a oneshot type thing) but the jjk dynamics make for a much better longform fic, and childhood friends to enemies to lovers is literally my favourite trope of all time, which is very satosugu. but apart from that, honestly its kind of a way for me to explore the sport and my fascination with it, because as a setting it works insanely well. especially translating across from jjk, where both settings are high-pressure environments with life-or-death elements, and a level of corruption present as the characters move through it.

i was thinking about like, what teams the characters would drive for, how they'd behave, how they'd do media, etc. honestly if u know f1 you will likely manage to draw comparisons to irl drivers and dynamics relatively easily - a lot of readers have already pointed out that in the comments. it started as brainrot, and then suddenly i had this whole world with history and a timeline and strong characterisations.

i very almost had getou come back as a driver rather than as a team principal, but decided against it, since i wanted to stick to jjk's key themes of protecting youth and raising the next generation, and getou being TP to yuuji and yuuta fit that much better than him coming back as a driver / direct rival lol.

i also almost had shoko as a driver and gojo's teammate, but i felt her role in jjk was more supporting and i love women in stem. so shes an engineer.

i basically just thought about it obsessively for weeks, while putting off writing it because i was already writing a 100k words + fic at the time (and still am, lol, although a lot slower) and then finally was like, ok just write it. and here we are.

honestly my planning process isnt extensive, i think of scenes / conversations that would further character dynamics, and then put them in at the right time. especially in the present timeline right now, i dont have any particular plan for the next few races, because i want all the tension to pay off simultaneously, which means waiting a bit before putting in a lot of scenes i have planned! its all about pacing aha

i was a klancer in 2016/17 and the dual narrative is largely inspired by hearts don't break around here's. the pacing and the building of tension and the payoff is insanely good, and to this day, that fic is one of my biggest inspirations. even if you don't know klance, this fic is genuinely one of the best fics i have ever read. it changed my life @ 14.

anyway! some insight on the fic! i am working hard to get another chapter up before i have to hibernate and do like three assignments at once in january!

I absolutely adore todobaku. I wish I could write Todoroki because I so badly want to write todobaku, but so far I’ve only written one todobaku fic where they don’t even technically end up as a couple 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Todoroki is just so delightfully weird. I adore him. Bakugou is much easier to write because it’s just find the most dumb reason to be mad and then curse it out 😂

TodoBaku is my favorite BNHA ship. Which hilariously overtook shinkami even tho shinkami was essentially the BNHA version of klance. And klance is my forever.

It’s 4am and I’m not sure if any of that makes any real sense. But by god do I love todobaku. Like ahhhhhhh the dynamic. Tsundere Bakugou and Clueless Todoroki. They’re both so bad at socialization. Todoroki really looked at the angry Pomeranian like “yeah, that’s friend shaped.”

Anyways I hc both as ace. (I know some people are weird about their hcs and can’t stand any content without them??? But I literally don’t care that much about my hcs to be bothered by things that don’t align). Specifically as Todoroki being adult activity repulsed and Bakugou being neutral on participation.

Anyways fake dating aus for todobaku? Delightful! Surprisingly I’m not all that into soulmate aus for todobaku which reeks bc soulmate aus are my favorite. Occasionally I stumble across a decent one, but so far fake dating aus for todobaku have definitely been 💯💯💯

If you’re good on kiritodobakudeku there’s a wonderful OT4 fic that I cannot recommend enough. The todobaku content in it lives rent free in my head. Like I can’t describe it without spoilers, but trust me, this fic????? It will water your crops, cure your depression, and make you like 20% gayer while it’s at it. (I say as if I’m not already the maximum amount of queer that once could possibly be).

Anyways I would absolutely love for these boys to win (even tho I know they’ll be obliterated 😭)

Finally watched, and finished, Voltron. Honestly? I loved it. Season 8 was.... mmmm. Well, I had issues with it, like I thiiiiiink is the consensus on tumblr? But probably for different reasons. Don’t get me wrong, the earlier seasons had me shipping Klance haaaaard, and I’m still into it. But I really liked Lance and Allura together. It felt natural by the time Season 8 came. Lance had never been quiet about his feelings for Allura, and I think Lance was honestly... perfect for Allura. After his character development, and hers, anyway. I thought Allura was an amazing character, and I’m sad she died. My issues with Season 8 was just how exhausting it was. And Atlas >.>. I get it, the Castle of Lions crystal did shit to it, sure. But c’mon. It’s just casually a mech? I can only imagine how terrifying it would be inside that ship for everyone who wasn’t on the bridge, ha! And Honerva’s flip to undo what she’d done was really... fast. AND I KNOW VOLTRON WAS FIRST BUT OMFG THE SEASON 8 PLOT WAS BASICALLY DR. STRANGE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS RIGHT? It was. And the whole time I kept going - yes I know this was first but I cannot UNSEE IT. My other issues with the last season were just that it was PLOT PLOT PLOT PLOT and no more silly shenanigans. I missed the family vibe.

However, that aside? I was impressed with the animation, the dialogue, the story telling. Bringing shit back from forever ago and the characters being shocked it came back too. Keith and Krolia letting that weapon loose, for instance? And then it coming back? *chef’s kiss* I also really liked that none of the main characters got side-lined. I say this because my all time favorite show as a kid was Digimon Frontier, and I still love it. However, my main gripe with it was that towards the end, it became the Kouji and Takuya show, and all the other main characters became cheerleaders. That never happened. All the characters still had really important things to do at all times. I do feel that Keith stopped being a person and became just “team leader” in the last season, but he did a lot of growing.

Keith is my favorite character, which... makes sense because I have a type. But honestly? I loved all the main characters. If I had to pick one to be at the bottom, I’d say probably Shiro. I love Shiro, don’t get me wrong! But I was disappointed his PTSD just magically wasn’t an issue after he died. (I also hate his final prosthetic purely from a visual perspective.) He also had the least amount of growth, in my opinion. I do honestly think Coran had more growth, and he was mostly comedic relief.

Anyway. My review that no one asked for. TLDR - I loved it overall, but do recognize its flaws.

oohhhh...

i know you don’t go to vld but this would be like, a season 1-era klance fic. like that whole genre of “keith and lance end up stranded on a planet together and have to learn to work together and maybe fall in love along the way” fics...

i am a Sucker for near-death experiences and nursing each other back to health. thinking about keith being severely injured and this ends up kind of leveling the two of them...up to now lance has always kinda felt like second-best, always thinks of keith as being ahead of him and almost kind of untouchable, and it’s devastating that it takes seeing keith almost on death’s door for him to go, “oh, shit, he isn’t untouchable he isn’t some god...he’s just a kid. we’re both just kids”

and keith who hates being helpless being forced to rely on someone else for what feels like the first time in forever. and especially lance. he doesn’t necessarily think lance is useless to the team or anything like that, but up to now lance still has his strong goofball tendencies, tendencies not to always take things seriously, and this combined with keith just not knowing what to do with someone caring about him because everyone either leaves him or dies on him...it’s a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for him

and so the two of them slowly learn to rely on each other and trust each other...they begin opening up to each other and seeing new sides to each other they’re not used to seeing, especially the longer they’re stranded together (lance sees a funnier, goofier side of keith, even if his wit is dry and humor sometimes morbid) (keith sees a more serious side of lance who takes charge and is able to think reliably on his feet)
