Hey do you have any advice on how to support people with Avoidant Personality Disorder?
First, I’m sorry for taking a while to respond to this — I’ve been pretty busy with school and generally worn out, and wanted to wait until I could put some thought into the answer (putting it under a cut bc it got kinda long haha).
Obviously I can’t speak for everyone with AvPD (and I have a lot of overlapping disorders) so take everything with a grain of salt, but I have had it for years and it’s had a major impact on my life, so here’s what I’ve got:
Don’t try to force us out of our comfort zones. My parents did this for years, and it was awful. AvPD is not just shyness — oftentimes, we don’t even have a social “comfort zone” to begin with, and it puts us under basically constant stress. If someone with AvPD is trying to push themself outside of that anyway, absolutely support them, but never try to force it. Even if you mean well, some people’s disorder is so bad that they won’t be able to handle seemingly “little” interactions without extremely severe anxiety. (For example, I couldn’t speak in class at all, order food or buy things in a store for myself, or even leave my house without insanely terrible anxiety for years).
Avoid putting us on the spot. Forcing us to be the center of attention, even briefly or in a “low-stakes” setting can be incredibly stressful. Of course sometimes it’s necessary, but even just doing introductions in a small group or something can be really hard for us. (I once had a panic attack because my therapist was bringing in someone else who worked there to have a practice conversation with me, and that’s about as low-stakes as it gets.)
Don’t assume we’re boring. It’s common for us to be ashamed of literally every interest or personality trait we have, and try to turn ourselves into the most bland, generic copy of a person to cover that up. Until recent years, I wouldn’t even talk to my closest friends about interests we didn’t share. (This applies more to stuff like music, TV shows, movies, etc. than just general hobbies.) If someone with AvPD does share their interests with you, try not to make fun of them or anything — even if it’s not mean-spirited, it can make us regret opening up.
Don’t make jokes at our expense (unless you know the person well enough to be sure they’re okay with it). This obviously applies in general, but it’s harder to be sure with AvPD. When you constantly second-guess everything you do and are convinced you’re screwing everything up, even super lighthearted teasing or laughing at something silly you did can translate in our brains to “oh god I messed up again and they all think I’m an idiot.”
Be the one to initiate plans if you have to (and try not to take that personally). If you want to spend time with us, ask, because we pretty much can’t. I went years never asking a friend to hang out, and always waiting for someone else to initiate. It never meant I didn’t want to spend time with them, I was just worried about making them feel obligated, and didn’t feel like I was worthy of attention.
Spend time with us one-on-one sometimes. If you’re close to someone with AvPD, they may still be anxious around you, but will probably be a lot more comfortable with just you than with you and a bunch of other people. Especially since we don’t tend to have a lot of friends ourselves for obvious reasons, always being with a friend/partner and all their other friends can make us feel like we’re just there out of pity or something and don’t fit in with the group. You are definitely not obligated to give the person your attention all the time or put them above all your other friends, but spending some time with just them (and maybe one or two other people they trust) can help. If we’re clingy to one or two people, it’s often because we have no one else and it gets super lonely living like that.
Don’t assume we want to be alone. On a day-to-day basis I did, in the sense that I felt safer alone due to less anxiety, but I never wanted to be alone. Before I was even a teenager, I was terrified that I was going to die alone because I had no genuine friends and would probably never form any close relationships. I would get so jealous of people with real friends that it hurt, and I always wanted a best friend. I buried myself in reading and writing for years to fill that void (and developed maladaptive daydreaming disorder because I was so isolated irl).
Remind them you actually like them. For pretty much my whole life, I’ve felt like my friends put up with me out of pity or convenience or something, because I truly don’t understand how anyone could actually like me as a person. Of course, you don’t have to say it outright unless they literally ask (which they may be too anxious to do), but make sure they know that you actually enjoy being around them and aren’t doing it for some other reason.
Take it seriously as a disorder and provide accommodations. This one only really applies to people who have some administrative power over a person with AvPD, such as at school. In my opinion, we absolutely should be able to get exemptions/alternate assignments for things that give us heart palpitations and almost make us pass out — but I still had to do presentations before medication, and would stress about them for days in advance and then have severe panic attacks in front of everyone every time. School in general was awful and some of that was unavoidable, but it was easier with the rare teachers who would let me get out of those things.
Idk, some of these may be obvious but I’m just going off my own experience. If anyone has more questions feel free to ask them!
-
Also, this is more of a suggestion for people with AvPD, but I would really recommend getting on medication for it if you can find one that helps you. Therapy did absolutely nothing for my AvPD, except for eventually directing me to a psychiatrist because I was basically a hopeless case without meds.
I’m still avoidant and self-conscious and feel inferior to everyone else, but I no longer have the severe anxiety symptoms — I can now handle basic interactions (and even way more stressful ones like presentations) without constant stress and panic attacks, and I had some longterm chronic physical symptoms (digestive issues, jaw pain) clear up too. Within a week, it genuinely felt like the anxiety goggles had been pulled off and I was able to see the world more normally for the first time.

Hi I absolutely love your headcanons. I have epilepsy and these can take many forms for me (full on seizures, absence seizures (looks like I've zoned out) and muscle spasms where I drop things and break them (I will cry cause I feel like my body is betraying me). I have anxiety and although I'm 4 years seizure free I always have a fear of 'what if today is the day' and having to remember to take my meds everyday. Can I have a HC of the boys taking care of MC with epilepsy and how they help her.
Although I’m not too familiar with the technical side of epilepsy, I did have a close high school friend who would occasionally get seizures during classes. I did a little research on my own time! Hope you enjoy it!
MLQC Headcanon - The closest one to you
Victor
You weren’t afraid to tell him about you having epilepsy (he didn’t want you to hide anything from him, anyways)
He wants you to describe everything to him (if you feel any pain, what medications you take, what he could do to help, etc)
He hires a professional to be your temporary carer
He didn’t like the fact that he wasn’t the one closest to you anymore
But with the way he is now, he won’t be that helpful to you
And he KNOWS that (that’s what makes it so frustrating)
He spends his free time between work to study up on epilepsy (and how to be a carer)
You’re worried that he’s dedicating so much of his precious time (and you know just how Victor feels about time)
“Have you forgotten who I am?” (he’s so cheeky sometimes)
He finishes clearing documents at a demonic speed (Goldman reiterates, I TOLD you he was an alien)
In the meantime, he does the simple tasks (ones that don’t require extensive knowledge)
He is ON YOU when you’re taking medications (Time is literally of the essence, MC)
He has a chart by his office desk with your details (so he knows what time, how many, how often you need to take the pills)
Because he can’t always be with you, he orders the professional carer to be by your side at all times (but makes him maintain a private distance that won’t make the CEO husband angry)
You haven’t had seizures for quite a while, but it’s always on the back of your mind
Victor knows that you’re worried about this (it makes him upset that there’s nothing he can do about it)
Although he can’t prevent future seizure from happening, he does his best to reassure you that he WILL be by your side to take care of you
“I don’t believe you, Victor” (this is your chance to make him BEG)
He doesn’t say anything for while, but picks up his phone to call someone
You can faintly hear the voice on the other side of the line
“Goldman, gather up all the employees in the building and have them meet at the main lobby” (....sorry sir, but can I ask just why...?)
“Victor, what are you—”
“Well, my wife here doesn’t believe me when I say I’m going to be by her side always” (....and....you want me to gather everyone because.....)
“Because if I actively proclaim my love to her in front of a crowd, she’ll trust my words” (he’s looking at you, smirking)
“Victor, you wouldn’t!”
“Try me”
The line hangs up (Goldman doesn’t get paid enough for this)
Kiro
He’s heard of it, but knows NOTHING about it (except a little about the seizures)
He’s scared when you talk about your past experiences
“And are you okay now?” (he has these puppy dog eyes)
“Well, I haven’t had these seizures for quite some time now” (omg you just want to hug him and kiss him all over)
Savin notices Kiro reading a lot more during schedules
Wait. Kiro. READING?????
Yes.
Sunshine boy is trying so hard to understand what epilepsy is
So he bookmarked all these articles online to read on his spare time
But God help him, he doesn’t comprehend what these words mean
He figured it was easier to just talk to a professional about it
Later in the week, he wants you to come over to his house on his day off
When you go inside, his entire house has been fortified
No more sharp edges, no more hard floors, security alarms set in every room?
“Ta-dah!” (Kiro proudly shows off his new home)
“Kiro...what....what’s all this for?”
“I think your apartment is too dangerous for you to stay by yourself” (he ushers you to sit down)
“It would be fine if I can regularly go to your house, but Savin said that’s too risky” (and risky it WAS, with all the fans following his every move)
“So I decided the best option was to bring you to MY home!”
Although it’s a little sudden, you can tell that he’s genuinely worried for you
“Haha...thank you, Kiro” (you get up to hug him)
“You’re welcome, MC” (he squeezes you even tighter)
“You’re free to use this house as you please. You can even change the interior here!” (No, that’s okay Kiro)
“When I can’t stay here during work, I’ll send my stylists over to check up on you” (he smooths your hair down)
“But don’t get too along with them! I’m going to get jealous!” (he puffs his cheeks out what the heck, that’s adorable)
You reach out to kiss his nose
“Don’t worry, you’re the only one I can get this intimate with”
He immediately picks you up, and you’re dangling over his shoulders
“Well, I don’t think that’s intimate enough” (sunshine? More like sun-KISSED)
Lucien
If there’s anyone more familiar with how epilepsy works, it’s Dr. Lu Lu
He knows more than you?
He doesn’t think it’s necessary to hire a professional carer (he’s the best carer, wdym)
He’s prepared to the fullest
You tell him that it’s been a while since your last seizure
“We can never be too sure, MC”
Although you haven’t moved into the same house yet, he frequently drops by your apartment (he doesn’t leave until the next day)
During lectures he always looks back at you (to make sure you’re doing fine)
AFTER lectures he makes sure your........physical form is in top condition (SFW if you know what I mean)
He worries that you’re overwhelmed with work sometimes
Offers to lessen your load by helping you edit videos
He’s actually good at making videos? (Youtuber in the making?)
You sometimes ask him to brew tea for you (it helps you relax)
He has a designated cup in his house just for you (when you’re not there, he places it in the display case)
You’re not actually interested in drinking tea
You just like how elegant he looks when he’s brewing
The soft smell of chamomile and lavender in his room is so calming
You fall asleep on his couch while he’s gathering some materials in another room
He’s slightly startled when he doesn’t hear your voice anymore (he quickly sets his papers down and crouches next to you)
Your cute snores make him laugh (he records it for future reference)
When you wake up, you’re back in your bed
“Lucien?”
He peers inside the door, pushes up his GLASSES, (yes I am a Glasses Lucien freak) and smiles at you
“Yes?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t plan on dozing off like that”
“No worries, I was able to keep myself entertained”
“Oh? What were you looking at?” (you step out to the living room, finding a stack of albums on the table)
???
“You were adorable in this zebra onesie” (LUCIEN PLEASE)
Gavin
He’s dealt with plenty of rogue evolvers during his missions
Most of them had seizures while their evols were going out of control
How different could it be? (Birdcop has never been more wrong in his life)
He’s so taken back when you explain epilepsy to him
The way you describe it makes it sound so terrifying?
He listens inventively to the first aid procedures
He follows through pretty smoothly, actually (damn right, he’s Agent B-7)
You notice that he’s a LOT more attentive towards you
He was always like that before, but it’s to a greater extent now
If you’re quiet for a minute, he starts to panic
“It’s okay, Gavin! I’m okay” (you have to stop him from busting down the bathroom door)
He doesn’t like it when he has to leave you to go on missions (especially ones where he doesn’t know when he’ll get back)
He assigns Minor and/or Eli as your bodyguard (for all locations EXCEPT your apartment)
Anna is responsible for watching over you when you’re home
He calls/texts you so often (it’s like he never left)
His mind is elsewhere during work (but he never fails the missions, because he’s AGENT BIRDCOP-7)
Something you don’t know is that Eli and Minor are required to send photos of you once in a while (something about him being unable to trust their words)
WORST. PEOPLE. TO. ASSIGN. THIS. TO.
Eli takes photos with himself in it (and the focus is not even on you)
Minor always takes them while you’re moving (he only manages to capture your afterimage)
Anna to the rescue, honestly (that’s an entire photoshoot)
The first thing he does after returning is checking to make sure you’re okay (he hugs you after his checkup is done)
“........Gavin, what are these gashes on your arm?”
“....so......what do you want for dinner tonight?”
F
I don’t know why, but I always make Lucien’s headcanons somewhat nsfw
I can’t help it, he just does that to me

Chapter 1: Get the Gang Together
Tumblr media
Summary: With the Fab Four found dead, Molly Hernandez was furious. Secrets of the Runaways’ parents are discovered at the monthly Pride meeting.
Word count: 3,279
Author’s note: I decided to write something different for a change! I’ve actually been meaning to release the first chapter of this fic since December 2019. Runaways have a special place in my heart as well as the universe of Danger Days and the Killjoys. That’s why I’ve decided to write them in one universe to honor them both. I tried to do some justice writing this chapter by adding the seedlings to Deanoru and Gertchase. Hopefully, it’s not too bad. By the way, I recommend listening to Get the Gang Together by Gerard Way as you’re reading this chapter. The chapter title was named after that song. :)
Breaking news! This just in. We just got a report that the infamous group of killjoys known as Party Poison, Fun Ghoul, Kobra Kid, and Jet Star are dead. They have finally been caught in a tragic accident that cost them their lives.
These were the words that came from the tv Molly Hernandez was watching from in the Yorkes’ living room. She was stunned at the news report. Her heroes were found dead. Molly couldn’t believe what she was seeing. It could be false, right? Sometimes you can't always trust the news. But Molly was proven wrong when the footage was shown of the four beloved heroes she looked up to were on the ground dead. She had enough when the news channel decided to give a closer look at the bodies. Molly tore her eyes away from the tv and closed her eyes. She wished those images displayed on the tv out of her mind. It was until her sister, Gert, that interrupted her from her breakdown.
“Molly?” Gert walked in the living room in search of the 16-year-old. When Gert saw what was displayed on the television screen, she frantically reached for the remote to turn it off.
The purple-haired girl kneeled by Molly’s side and asked her sister in a worried tone, “why were you watching that? You know you shouldn’t be watching stuff like that on tv, Mols.”
Molly didn’t realize tears had spilled from her eyes when she opened them to look at Gert. “T-they’re dead, Gert. The Fab Four a-are dead.”
It had dawned on to Gert the graphic images they were broadcasting on the television screen were the cause of Molly’s breakdown. “Oh, I’m sorry, Mols.” Gert moved to hug her sister.
“Who could have done such a thing? I thought they were invincible?” Molly sniffled.
“Mols, no one is invincible. Everyone has a weakness.” Gert pushed a strand of Molly’s hair behind her ear.
“The Killjoys had a weakness? Well, how come they survived in the zones for such a long time?” Molly didn’t fully believe in what Gert had to say.
“Look, I think we should continue this conversation later,” Gert said, changing the subject. “We need to go with mom and dad to the monthly Pride meeting later.”
“Wait, what?! Why are we going with them this time?” Molly whined. She started to sulk on the couch.
“I don’t know, but it must be important,” Gert got up to start packing her backpack. “You don’t want any Dracs to come here looking for you, right?”
“Why would they come over here when we’re not the enemy?” Molly questioned.
“Mols,” Gert said in a warned tone. “Just get ready. Please.”
Molly sighed exasperatedly and marched to her bedroom to get ready. “Fine!”
“Don’t forget to take your meds! It’ll calm you down!” Gert yelled. Molly closed her bedroom door in reply.
Molly clenched her fists and screamed into her pillow. She knew the Fab Four didn’t die in vain. Molly refused to think that way. There had to be someone that was behind it. And she will figure it out for herself. If she doesn't, she won’t ever forgive herself for not doing so. Thinking back to the last thing Gert told her, Molly looked at the pills that were placed on her vanity.
“Screw it. I’m done with this.” She said out loud. Grabbing the pill container, she threw it in the trash in disgust. Molly didn’t spare a second glance at her trash bin while getting ready for the meeting.
---------
Molly and Gert were sitting in one of the lounges in the Wilder house. They were waiting for the other teens to come by. Gert had to agree with how the monthly Pride meeting was boring. Like the kind that bored you to death.
“So you do agree with me?!” Molly exclaimed. “Why couldn’t you tell Stacey we should’ve passed the meeting?”
“They’re our parents, Mols. We need to listen to them.”
“They’re your parents, Gert. Not mine.” Molly retorted with a scowl.
“Look, I know you’re still torn from this morning’s news,” Gert said with a sigh. “But just for tonight, try to be on your best behavior. If you’re comfortable, you can talk more about this morning if you like.”
“I’m good. You wouldn’t understand anyway.” Molly twisted her body, facing away from the purple haired girl. Gert can’t help but feel bad.
She hated to admit it, but she knew very little about the Killjoys. Gert only knew of the things that were broadcasted on the holos and television. She tried her best to sympathize with Molly, but it felt kind of strange to do so. These Killjoys were strangers to her. Could she be able to trust them at all? And at the same time, there were other things that were more important to care about.  Like what college she was going to attend. There were very few varieties in Battery City. But before she could go over the pros and cons of each college, she heard loud chatter coming from the lobby.
Gert decided to get up and make her way to the lobby of the Wilders’ home. When she stopped at the balcony, she saw none other than Chase Stein with his parents. Chase was all smiles and hugged Alex’s parents. Seeing Chase in the flesh reminded of the many years she had been pining over the jock.
She was tempted to go greet him, but Karolina and her mom appeared. Chase’s smile that he had on became extremely big when he saw the blonde.
“Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Wilder! I made some appetizers for the adults to enjoy!” Karolina made a little gesture towards the container in her hands.
Alex’s parents were impressed by Karolina’s effort.
Honestly, Gert didn’t like girls who were like Karolina. They were WAY too perfect for her liking. Gert knew no one was perfect, but Chase has somehow fit into that definition of it. And guys like Chase were drawn to girls like Karolina. And not Gert. He never spared a glance at her when they were kids compared to Karolina. The purple haired girl walked back to the lounge, feeling her mood shift to be much shittier than before.
“Gert!” Karolina called out behind her. “It’s so nice to finally see you here after all this time! Come here!”
As soon as she turned to face Karolina, Gert was greeted with the blonde gently wrapping her arms around the purple haired girl. Gert was weirded out by the sudden hug. Why would Karolina be so glad to see her? They were polar opposites of each other.
Gert slowly retracted from the hug and mustered up a smile. “Uh yeah! It’s nice to see you too.”
“I love your hair by the way! Purple suits you well.” Gert wondered if Karolina was just saying that just to be nice or if she was genuine.
“Thanks...You’ve gotten taller.” Gert awkwardly pointed out. She wasn’t the best at small talk.
“Yeah! All thanks to my parents.” Karolina jokily made a little jazz hand gesture. “Who’s at the lounge by the way? Is Nico here?”
“No. It’s just me and Molly.” Gert decided to walk back to the lounge.
“Oh, nice. I can’t wait to catch up with Molly after all these months.” Karolina said while following the purple haired girl.
When both girls made it to the lounge, Karolina quickly hugged Molly. Gert noticed Molly’s mood went up a bit, which was good. Hopefully, her sister won’t act too grumpy for the rest of the night. Time passed by and the other teens gradually appeared in the lounge. Alex had been the one to appear last.
“Sorry I was late. I picked up some pizza for the six of us.” Alex greeted the other teens. “I’m glad you guys came.”
“Why are we here exactly, Wilder?” Chase queried with his arms crossed. “You must have your intentions.”
“I thought it was a great idea for us to hang together again, you know?” Alex replied. “Now, do you guys want to eat?”
“We came over for this? If you said you wanted to hang Alex, you could’ve texted all of us.” Molly said. “Besides, today isn’t a good day to hang.”
“Molly, just stay put. You never know, this could cheer you up and take your mind off of things.” Gert remarked.
“Wait, hold on. What does she mean?” Alex pointed out Molly’s discomfort, slightly curious.
“Don’t you dare say anything, Gert!” Molly demanded.
Gert ignored her sister’s request. She almost debated whether she shouldn’t tell, but decided to spill anyway. “She’s heartbroken about those four Killjoys dying.”
“You mean those four that showed up on the news this morning?” Alex questioned.
Gert nodded in response. Although she hated when Molly was in a bad mood, she didn’t feel it was necessary for Molly to keep sulking around.
“I hate to say this Molly, but they were outlaws and criminals,” Alex stated.
“Excuse me?” Molly stood up from her seat, obviously offended. “What they’ve been doing was brave. They were fighting for a good cause!”
“You do know our parents are the ones that work for BL/ind. Going against BL/ind means going against our parents.”
“Well, my parents aren’t my real parents so…” Molly crossed her arms and glared at Alex.
“Guys, can we please stop arguing? Look, Molly’s mourning and she sounds like she’s having a rough day. Give it a rest, Alex.” Karolina said as she coaxed Molly to sit back on the couch. Molly obliged and Karolina sat next to her.
“I’m just being realistic.” Alex adjusted his glasses. The pizza was still untouched at this point.
“Well, you don’t have to remind us. Let Molly be.” Karolina was rubbing soothing circles on Molly’s back.
“I honestly agree with Molly. You could have just texted us if you wanted to hang out rather than use our parents’ monthly meeting to your advantage.” Chase said.
“Would you guys have replied or even cared to look at my text? We haven’t been together since-”
“Don’t,” Nico warned. “Don’t say it.” For a moment, the whole room became silent. That was the first thing Nico has said the entire time the teens got together for the night.
“I thought you weren’t listening to us,” Alex said with a hint of surprise.
Nico smiled meekly. “Oh, I’ve been listening. It’s just that I don’t want to be here as well.”
“Oh, uh okay.” Alex shifted his foot awkwardly. “How about we do something fun like Twister to lift your spirits up?”
“What are we? 12?” Chase replied. “We’re not kids anymore.”
“Well okay. If you don’t want to do that, then let me show you something else.” Alex abandoned the pizza and walked over to a table near the wall. “Maybe this is something that might be on your level of fun.”
The rest of the teens looked at each other confused at what was to come next. Alex turned a stack of coasters that were on the table. The shelves nearby the door parted, revealing a doorway.
“You guys can go on without me. I’ll just stay here and wait until you come back.” Molly was heading to take a seat on the couch again until Gert stopped her.
“No, Mols. You’re coming with us.” Gert held her hand. “I don’t want to leave you here alone.”
Molly sighed and let Gert lead her further in the secret passageway. The teens walked inside with Alex leading the group. They were close to each other in case something happened. There was a room at the end of the passageway. Once the teens reached the end, they looked around the room.
“What is all this?” Nico stared at the room in bewilderment.
“I’m not entirely sure. I discovered the secret passageway earlier today, but didn’t see what was inside.” Alex wondered out loud. A bunch of spread out papers near him caught his eye. “And what are these?”
The teens gathered around the table Alex was standing near. There were a bunch of documents littered all over the table. The documents contained photos of people that looked like their age. What was unsettling was that their photos had been crossed off. All of the photos that were crossed off were listed as exterminated in bold.
Gert took one of the documents and scanned it. “This is currently striking high on the disturbing meter,” Gert commented worriedly. “Does exterminated mean killed?”
“Sounds like it,” Nico said before noticing something off. “My mom’s purse is in here. Where could she be?”
“If these documents are here, then I don’t think our parents have been doing any good for the city.” Chase looked at the others. “I wouldn’t be surprised if my dad was a cold-blooded killer.”
The teens heard footsteps echoing below them. All of their eyes widened. They scrambled to look for hiding spots. Luckily, they found a secret room that has a window overlooking the bigger room outside.
“Bring the girl in. We don’t have all day to do this.” Tina grumbled.
Leslie entered the vast space with a teenage girl beside her.
“Wait a minute. I know that girl.” Karolina said.
“You know her?” Alex turned to the blonde.
“Yeah, she’s a part of the church. What’s she doing here?”
“Leslie, where am I? Who are these people?” The girl looked at the teens’ parents frantically. “I don’t recognize them from the church.”
“It’s okay, Destiny. They’re helping me with the initiation.” Leslie assured. She gave a bottle to Destiny that contained an unknown liquid. “Here, drink this.”
Destiny nodded, trusting the church head. How could she say no to her anyway? She took the bottle in her hands and took a sip. Destiny immediately almost dropped the bottle after she finished, but Geoffrey caught it.
Destiny held her head. “I don’t feel so good. What was in that drink?”
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.” Leslie ignored her question. She rubbed Destiny’s back before turning to Victor. “Are we ready, Victor?”
“As always. We never run out of masks.” Victor noted confidently. He hands a Draculoid mask to Geoffrey.
Destiny was trembling. Leslie was still comforting the girl. “Just hold still. It will all be over soon.”
Geoffrey swiftly pulled the mask on Destiny. She tried to resist, but Leslie was holding her still. As soon as the mask was completely on Destiny, she screamed.
“Wait maybe you shouldn't see this, Mols.” Gert reaches to cover Molly’s eyes.
Molly moved Gert’s hand away from her. “I deserve to know what’s going on!” When Molly stole a glimpse of what happened to Destiny, she almost screamed. Gert reached to cover her adoptive sister’s mouth. She looked at the other teens. They also adopted a look of horror on their face.
“Did you hear that?” Geoffrey looked around the area suspiciously. “I heard something.”
They looked at the window that overlooked where the parents stood. There was nobody there.
---------
“Your foot is not in the right place!”
“Get off of me!”
“You’re cheating!”
Those were the things Alex’s parents heard coming from the lounge. Catherine greeted the teens, “Hey guys. We hope we’re not interrupting you all.”
“Hi, mom! Nah, we’re just playing Twister.” Alex said.
“You guys actually came when things were about to get interesting,” Molly commented.
Alex’s parents nodded. Geoffrey spoke this time, “It looks like you guys are having fun. Your parents will be downstairs when you’re ready to go.” They waved the teens goodbye and left.
The teens watched as Alex’s parents leave. Karolina was the first person to say something. “Did you think they suspected a thing?”
“I sure hope they didn’t. Them finding out is probably the death of us.” Chase commented.
The teens separated from their game of Twister. They stood up, dusting themselves off.
“So what are we going to do, Alex?” Gert asked. “We can’t just stay here and pretend nothing happened.”
“Just act normal when you guys leave with your parents. I’ll text you guys to meet up tomorrow.” Alex told the other teens.
“Where are we meeting up? Somewhere in Battery City?” Molly wondered.
“Our safest bet is to meet in one of our homes,” Alex told the other teens. “Devising a meeting in Battery City is dangerous. The security is very tight there.”
The rest of the teens nodded in agreement. There was no use in disagreeing with each other.

“Hey, Gert. Have you seen Karolina?” Chase asked Gert who was on her holo. The pair were in the lobby.
“Am I boring you with my appearance already?” Gert automatically replied without looking up from her holo.
“No! That was not what I meant.” Chase defensively said. “It’s an honest question.”
“Unfortunately, no. Is that all you wanted to say to me?”
“Look, I just wanted to know if you knew where she was. Also, I wanted to check up on you and Molly after what we just saw.” Chase explained. “It must be pretty harsh for Molly to experience that.”
“Yeah, but I think she’s alright now. She’s a strong girl.” Gert powered off her holo and looked up at Chase. “And as for me, I’m doing peachy.”
“Well, that’s good to hear.” Chase dug his hands into the pockets of his jeans. Gert knew he was a little nervous. She heard his mom call for him. “Well, looks like I gotta go. It was nice seeing you, Gert.”
“Yeah, see you tomorrow.” Gert watched Chase exit the house with his parents. She didn’t bother giving her childhood crush a smile.
She stood there until Molly showed up. She couldn’t believe Chase actually had the guts to try to talk to her. Maybe Alex getting the gang back together wasn’t so bad after all.
---------
“Hey, Karolina. You alright?” Nico politely asked the blonde. The two girls were outside of the house. “I noticed you’ve been quiet before we parted from the lounge.”
“Uh yeah. I guess I’m fine? I’m not entirely sure if what we saw back there was real.” Karolina rambled. “Like my mom is the head of a church. There’s no way she would act that way.”
“I’ve been thinking the same thing. I wouldn’t think my parents would be like that.” Nico says. “But I guess we can figure this out together?”
“Yeah, that sounds good.” Karolina smiles at the goth. “You know, I don’t think I have your number on my holo.”
“Oh, hand it over. I’ll type it in.”
Karolina handed her holo towards Nico. “Thanks. I think it’s for the best you know. After everything that happened tonight.”
“Yeah, I thought Alex couldn’t get any weirder.” Nico handed the holo back to the blonde. Their hands touched a little in the process.
Karolina’s mother had pulled up to the curb near the Wilders’ home. Karolina said, “Well, I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Yeah, tomorrow.” Nico smiled a little. She watched Karolina open the car door and hopped into the front passenger seat of her mother’s car. The blonde waved at Nico goodbye and she waved back. Nico looked back at her holo and smiled at the recently added number.

AWAE 1x5 rewatch: thoughts and reactions
Here I am again with another AWAE rewatch. Writing these takes longer than you might think, so I don’t know how regular I can keep those coming, but I’ll see what I can do. For the time being, let’s dive into another episode:
And this episode opens in the best way possible - with Shirbert’s first spelling scene. Little did we know how important those would become - although reading the books kind of gave us a hint of it. And yet, this is one of the added charms of this incarnation of the story.
I have to say Mr. Philips is not being subtle with the words he is giving them to spell.
And there goes Gilbert’s first skipped E - in the word engagement, no less. That letter was given a lot more emphasis here than in the source material, and I live for it.
“Anne, are you feeling alright?” Knowing what milestone Anne experiences later on in this episode, Anne’s discomposure probably has little to do with Gilbert’s effect on her. But who can ever know for sure? I have to say, this episode had one of the cold opens I call “gold opens”.
And there it goes - Anne’s dramatic reaction to her first period. Is this an appropriate time to complain about the lack of health ed kids get in this setting? I mean, she would not have reacted like this if she had been talked to about this and knew what to expect. I doubt anyone’s reaction would be any different if they didn’t know what periods were, woke up in pain one night and discovered they were bleeding. Also, Anne better not be soaking that thing in hot water, or else the stain is never coming out.
Anne’s “I’m not ready to be a woman” speaks so much to me. WARNING: intimate personal experience coming up. I remember my first period. I had just turned fourteen about a month prior, and I had pretty much stopped anxiously awaiting it after I had done so since they talked about it in health class when I was 12. So, when I went into school for a test one day 6 years ago - I was really sick so I only went in for the test in the middle of the school day - I was focusing on the material and on suppressing my sneezes so I wouldn’t spread the flu to others. I was not at all expecting to go into that test a girl and come back home  a woman. Yes, I was in pain, but I thought it was the usual stress pains I would get during important tests amplified by my sickness. Anyway, so after that day, for years after, I would cry when I got my period and insist that “I am not a woman, I do not need this” and this emotion was so strong in me that it would result in progesterone deficiency and my period would skip for months and I would be on meds for so long. Then, when I was 17, I talked to a therapist about this and it turned out my refusing to accept I was a woman (as opposed to a girl, not that I was questioning my gender) was making my body try to suppress my womanhood. So yeah, it was tough. But I’m ok now and Anne’s reaction just brought out this personal memory. I’m sorry. Maybe I didn’t need to tell you all this, but it’s closely tied to my reception of this episode, so the way I see it I couldn’t go without it.
The way Marilla shooed Matthew out made me think. Was the existence of periods supposed to be kept a total secret from men at the time? Because that is not ok. Even today, there are a lot of men in the world, probably the majority of them, who don’t know the simplest thing about periods. Those are men who have mothers, sisters, girlfriends, daughters - they interact with women close to them and they at least need to know what to do and what not to do to make that time of the month easier for the women in their lives. But they don’t because nobody teaches them. This is just another part of making periods seem like a shameful thing that is to be kept secret at all times. And that’s not ok. But we’ll get back to that in future scenes.
While Anne is turning into a woman physically, Gilbert has to grow up too fast in a different way. What he has to go through with, and then without his father is just heartbreaking. Getting your period is a good and healthy, if unpleasant, way to grow up; losing your father - just the opposite.
Marilla cracks me up. “That explains all the children” is her hilariously deadpan response to Rachel saying she’d rather be pregnant. And I’m glad to see both women find it as hilarious as I do.
I’m even happier to see the girls at school are laughing together, too. However, things get serious quite suddenly. Apparently, Anne has just told them about her new maturity, so now they’re all sharing their experience. However, Ruby reminds me a lot of me in the same situation. Remember that health class I had when I was 12? It provoked a lot of discussion among us girls afterwards, and that was incredibly awkward for me because I was apparently the only one who didn’t have it yet. So yeah, I was Ruby in this situation, but I would go on to become Anne saying “Trust me, if I could give you mine, I would.” It reminds me of another personal story, and you’ll have to excuse me for telling it. A lot of my personal stories are coming out here, but I guess it’s the topic of the episode and there’s no way for me to comment on it without relating those stories. So, about a year ago when my 11yo cousin told me she’d gotten hers, I was in another one of my so-called “period-less periods” and I was seriously worried about my health. So, naturally, I was like “If I could take yours, I would.” Because, you know, it’s normal if you don’t have it at 11, but it is seriously concerning if you’re a 19-year old virgin going two months without her period. So, you see, I’ve been at so many points within the spectrum. Well, I’ll try to comment only on the episode from here on and not share my entire medical past.
“Nice boys never say people eat insects”. I quote that pretty much on a daily basis - every time someone mentions mnemonic devices. It’s hilarious. One of my university professors went out of her way to say those two words as many times as she could one time last year and I could not contain my laughter thinking of this quote, courtesy of Gilbert Blythe.
Anne acts just the way I do on my period - ok, I said no more personal details, but that barely counts. It’s just, Anne is so relatable. But also, when she says “Nothing appeals to me, Marilla” - I know what you need, Anne. You need chocolate. But did they have chocolate like we do?
My, I had forgotten this was when the raspberry cordial incident happens. This should be fun. And then heartbreaking. But it’s kinda fun in the long run, you know.
Wait, is Matthew going to order a puff sleeved dress for Anne? Is this that? I mean, it has to be since he rarely leaves Green Gables unless it’s for something really important. And if this is important to Anne, then you bet it’s also important to Matthew. You gotta love that man.
Of course Anne would be wearing the special ribbon Marilla Gave her. And of course she would invest all of her energy into that tea party. This is beautiful. Too bad one little mistake will have to ruin things...
Matthew is visibly uncomfortable amid the crowd in town, but he’s doing this for Anne and that means he has to do it, even if it’s out of his comfort zone. Even if Marilla might disapprove. The world needs more men like Matthew Cuthbert.
If Diana’s family had seen the manner in which Anne welcomed her to tea, they might have disregarded her mistake at the end, but alas, they didn’t. It was as classy and sophisticated as could be. The end was an innocent mistake.
Ok, but how funny would it be if the first bottle Anne picked up was actually the cordial she was looking for? That was kinda like putting down the correct answer on a test, then correcting it to the wrong one. I know I said it’s funny, but now that I put it like this, it’s just as upsetting as it has always seemed to me.
“Will you take me with you, you have to take me”... imagine Anne at finishing school. Just imagine.
Ah, yes, alcohol brings out the immature side of even the most dignified young ladies. There’s nothing like seeing Diana Barry, the poster girl for classy, shouting “Bosoms!” and giggling with her best friend. Her highly controlled young life finally saw a moment of blissful immaturity. What a pity it will end in tears.
I see Matthew has finally opened up - and of course he has, he is talking about Anne. He just loves her so much. Ever since I was first introduced to the books, I’ve always thought it’s such a wonderful mistake that Anne ended up with the Cuthberts. It made life better for them as well as for her.
Little Matthew reminds me a little bit of Cole - quiet and gentle, but, as Jeannie said, knows how to “make himself known”.  And also I love them both with all my heart.
Oh my, so this is the reason Matthew had to leave school - because Michael passed away? I had forgotten. Well, thanks for breaking my heart a second time. But well, I brought this upon myself by deciding to rewatch the entire series.
“A dignified affair”... if Marilla could see them now. Well, it’s better off that she can’t yet. Things are going down as it is, just let the fun last a little longer.
And there we go. It’s like the whole world is falling apart. This is worse than that time in season 3 when Diana’s mother drags her away from the Baynard house. And both times it is just plain tragic because both Anne and the Baynards are beautiful, good people who are nothing but kind and loving to Diana, and yet her mother fails to see that anything else but what she has deemed appropriate for her daughter, can be good.
If Marilla thinks some pairs of boots are “a frivolous expense”, I can’t imagine how she would react to the dress Matthew ordered for Anne.
“I will never have another bosom friend” Well, no, you won’t have to, Diana. It might seem like it’s the end of the world now, but it won’t last. Then, of course, there will be that other time of separation, which, like the other parallel I drew regarding Diana’s mother forbidding her to fraternise with someone, has to do with Jerry. I don’t want to think about that one, but, you know - just like this one, that, too, was fixed within the next episode. Also, based on this scene, I totally see why people ship them. I mean, it lowkey reminds me of Rapunzel and Cass in the TTS finale. You should watch that show if you haven’t btw.
Yes, Anne, life is so unfair, but not to you right now. To Gilbert. He’s losing his father. Forever. You just lost a friend for a little while. But of course, Anne knows neither one of those things. Life really is unfair, isn’t it?
“What wonderful red hair”, “I’ve heard nice things about you.” These must be some of the nicest things an adult who is not Matthew or Marilla has said to Anne in a long while. I wonder how that made her feel. If I were Anne, Gilbert’s father would have just made my day.
“Give my kind regards to Marilla” These words, coming from John Blythe, mean more than Anne and Gilbert can imagine. They mean more to me now that I’m watching this episode for the second time. That is why I love rewatches.
“Fair and square” Another Shirbert moment that would go on to become iconic. In a way, this whole episode is.
I see that, for once, Anne is putting her heart into her needlepoint. And not just hers, but, as it seems, Diana’s, too. She’s literally embroidered the words “kindred spirits” between two connected hearts. It’s beautiful. And sad to think that, as far as they know, they can never speak to each other again.
“I’ve come to realise that there are far bigger worries in the world” - is Anne referring to what Gilbert is going through with his father? Probably. I mean, being an orphan and going from one abusive household to another, Anne has probably never really had a relative to worry about. So she likely never even thought about how Gilbert feels taking care of his ill father until she saw it with her own eyes. This is why she won’t know how to properly react when John Blythe is gone.
So, I was wondering what Jerry’s role in this very much iconic episode would be, and there it is - he will be the one to take the boots back and bring home Anne’s special dress. And return the button to Jeannie, of course. This is definitely a special part. And Jerry delivered - both figuratively and literally in this particular case.
Anne’s face seeing the big box on her bed is priceless. The moment she sees the dress inside - even more so. What is a moment of “frivolous expense” and “vanity” to see her dream come true. And, just like that, the Cuthberts are a happy family.
In this episode, we saw: Shirbert’s first spell-off with Gilbert’s first skipped E; Anne’s first period, commented on with a lot of personal details about mine; a memorable mnemonic device; the development of John Blythe’s illness; a sassy Marilla moment and the reason behind all of Rachel Lynde’s pregnancies; Matthew orders a puff sleeved dress for Anne and is reunited with an old... friend in the process; Anne invites Diana to tea with disastrous results; the (temporary) tragic end of a  beautiful friendship; Anne is older and wiser; Jerry delivers an important package; a happy ending to a tough week for Anne.

Summary: After dropping out, Yuri’s life is a haze of working and trying not to lose his damn mind. Then he meets Estelle.
Read it here or check the notes for the link to AO3.
It’s late—too late, the community center isn’t supposed to be open at this hour—and there’s a crying young woman with blood on her face holding Yuri’s hand in both of her own.
Yuri really wishes he could say it’s the first and last time this will happen to him. Unfortunately, it’s neither.
“P-please,” the woman stammers. Tears streak down her cheeks, right through the abrasion that mars her cheekbone. Ouch. That must sting. “Please, I just—I can c-clean myself up, I just need a—a first aid kit and, and a place to spend the night—“
“This is a community center, not a shelter,” Yuri says, as gently as he can to soften the blow. Her lower lip trembles. “Hey, none of that. I can help with getting you cleaned up, and when you calm down a little bit we can think together about where to put you up for the night. Alright?”
“Th-thank you so much—“
Yuri waves his free hand dismissively. He fishes through his pockets for his keys so he can unlock the front door.
“Ladies first,” he says, using his captive hand to guide her inside. She sniffles valiantly, releasing his hand and inching inside the dark building. Yuri steps in after her, locking the door behind himself, and flicks on the lights. She flinches away from the sudden glare. “Shit, sorry.”
“It’s n-not your fault.”
“The first aid kit is in the staff room. If you want, you can wait right here—”
“I’m sorry, I d-don’t want to be alone, s-sorry—“
“Hey, you’re fine, that’s cool. Come on, then.”
They troop through the main community room. Yuri kicks in chairs that didn’t get pushed all the way back to their tables at the end of the day. That’s what Hanks gets for letting Ted help close up for the night. At least the kiddie zone got picked up so they won’t slip on any errant toy trains. The young woman flinches with every creaky floorboard and groaning pipe. Poor lady. This isn’t exactly a new building. There’s a lot of those noises.
Yuri unlocks the staff room, and this time has the presence of mind to warn her, “Lights going on.”
“Thank you....”
“So what I need you to do for me is to sit down and try to keep your hair back while I patch you up. Sound good?”
“You don’t—don’t have to—“
“Yeah, but I’m gonna, so quit trying to tell me what to do. Hair back.”
She obediently sinks into one of the shitty folding chairs Hanks keeps in the staff room. Shaking fingers hold her pink hair away from her face. Yuri sits down on an adjacent chair and tries to touch the abrasion as little as possible while he moves away some stray strands that she missed. She trembles, but doesn’t make a peep.
“Okay, what I’ve got here is hydrogen peroxide—“ He shows her the bottle. “And I’m just gonna pour some onto these cotton pads and wipe your scrapes down with it. It’ll sting like a motherfucker, but then it’ll be over with.”
“O-okay.”
“Chin up. You got this.” He holds her face steady while he makes the first pass. She still jerks back so hard that he almost gets her in the eye with the soaked cotton pad. “Whoa there.”
“I’m s-so sorry—!”
“Shit happens. Ready for the next try?”
“Ye-yes....”
Her jaw clenches under his fingers. She whimpers a little when the pad touches her cheek, but doesn’t move. What a trooper.
“There you go. One more pass, okay? We don’t want shit stuck in there when it heals up.”
She nods, firmly, and barely winces with the last pass. Yuri tosses the bloody cotton into the trash and reaches back into the first aid kit.
“Any other scrapes?”
“My—my knuckles.”
“Oh yeah? Let’s see ‘em.” Yuri swipes them down with one pass. They’re not nearly as bad as her face. “You know Neosporin?”
“N-no.”
“Really? Damn. Well, it’s just antibiotic goop. Shouldn’t hurt as much as the last stuff.” She watches as he spreads some onto a gauze pad.  “I’m gonna tape this to your face. Little weird having tape on your face, but in my personal experience, better than having an open bloody wound.”
“Y-yuck.”
“That’s the spirit.” He carefully tapes the gauze in place. Luckily, the scrape isn’t too big. Plenty of room to put the tape down without catching her eyelashes or the hair framing her face. He pops open a box of finger bandages and goops up a few to patch over the worst of her knuckles. “All set. We have some pain meds here, too. Want any? I got ibuprofen, naproxen, Tylenol...”
“Can I... ibuprofen.”
“All yours.” Yuri slides her the bottle and rises from his chair to search the cabinets. Where’s the goddamn cups? Oh, hell, that’s right. Hanks moved all of the cups to the kitchen. There’s only mugs in the staff room now. He grabs a “#1 GRANDPA” mug. “Lemme get you some water for that.”
He passes it off to her. She slips a pill into her mouth and drinks it down. Both hands lock around the mug when she lowers it, and she stares down into the leftover water, trembling.
“You cold?”
“H-huh? Oh. Um. A little.”
Yuri opens and closes a few more cabinet doors before he finds Hanks’s old high school letterman jacket neatly folded and stashed. Evidently the blankets they used to keep in here have been relocated, too. “We’ve got this. Might smell a little like mothballs, though.”
“That’s—that’s fine.”
Yuri drapes the jacket over her shoulders. She hunkers down under it without putting her arms through the sleeves.
“Do you want, like. Tea? We got tea, I think. In the kitchen. Not sure what kinds. I’m not really a tea person. I’m a heathen, I drink black coffee because chugging bitter sludge makes me feel like a badass.” She makes a hiccupping noise that’s something like a laugh. “There we go. Feeling a little better?”
“Yes. Thank you—so much. Really.”
“Well, I couldn’t just leave you there.” He scratches at his chin. “I’m gonna need you to get a head start on thinking about where to spend the night. I have to remember why I came here in the first place.”
“Oh, no, I’m s—“
“Don’t apologize. You didn’t do anything wrong.” What did he come here for? He tips his head back, staring at the ceiling. He was home for the evening... bartending ended early tonight... he had already walked Repede... oh, shit. That’s right. “I’m going into the kitchen anyway, so seriously, do you want tea?”
“N-no, thank you.”
“Okay, your call.”
She still scrambles to her feet and follows him, so close that he keeps waiting for her to step on his heels. He’s not gonna be the jackass that tells her off, though.
“I just want to preface this by saying I’m an amateur chef, not a serial killer, and you can hold onto the knife until we go our separate ways if me having it freaks you out,” Yuri tells her, as he turns on the kitchen light. She gives him a horrified look, mouthing knife? He goes to the sink. The meat cleaver is exactly where he thought it would be. He can always trust Hanks and Ted to leave his good knives someplace where they rust and get covered in gross shit. He grabs a scrubber sponge and wipes it down, one side then the other, before drying it and bundling it into a dish cloth.
He offers the bundle to the young lady. She shakes her head, quickly. The mug is still tightly clasped in both hands.
“Why is y-your knife here?”
“I lent it to them,” Yuri says. “To the staff here, I mean. Well, I’m also staff, sometimes, but that’s not the point. They had a few whole chickens to prepare today, and someone made off with their old cleaver a couple weeks ago.”
“That was. Nice of you.”
“Sure, I guess.” Yuri tucks the knife bundle under one arm and leans back against the counter, considering her. Her hair is pulled back with an ornate clasp, aside from the bangs that drape over her abraded cheek. Under Hanks’s jacket, she’s wearing a fancy dress, something sleek and silky and blue that pools around her feet. It is, predictably, covered in dirt, dead leaves and grass stains up to knee-height. Her face is wan, with big, sad green eyes. A bruise is starting to mottle her cheek around the scrape. The very image of an abused socialite. “Can I get your name?”
“I’m...I’m Estellise.”
Yuri whistles. “That’s a mouthful.”
“I g-guess so.”
“How do you feel about ‘Estelle’?”
“Es...Estelle?” She perks up a bit. The moue of her lips twitches up just a little. “That’s nice. I like that.”
“Alright, sweet. So, Estelle. I’m Yuri. Do you want to tell me how you ended up here at one in the morning with your face all banged up?”
Estelle looks back down into the mug. “...Do I have to?”
“Nah.”
“Wha—I don’t?”
“Nope. It’s not really my business. I mean, I can make some pretty educated guesses, but you don’t technically need to tell me anything.”
“O-oh.”
“I can just straight-up ask what I really need to. You want me to take you to a domestic abuse women’s shelter?”
“I—“ The mug shakes in her hands. “I d-don’t count.”
“You don’t count?”
“It’s n-not like that. I c-couldn’t—I couldn’t take that space from someone who really n-needed it.”
Yuri sighs, running a hand through his hair. “Uh... I guess you would know your situation better than I would. How about... no offense, but I have no idea how old you are. Are you a very fancy teenager? Should I be thinking more along the lines of children’s shelters?”
“No. I’m eighteen.”
“God, you are a fancy teenager.”
She laughs a little, but it’s hysterical. “Y-yes.”
“I guess... shit. I’m just stuck on women’s shelters. You really don’t want to go? You sure? I can find a lady to drive you if you aren’t comfortable with—“
“N-no! It’s not you. Y-you’re fine.”
“Do you want...did you come here to find Hanks? I can call Hanks.”
“Who’s H-Hanks?”
“Oookay, that answers that question... Not gonna lie, I’m kind of confused about what you want.”
Estelle makes a miserable noise. “I am too.”
Yuri takes a hard look at her. The scrape on her face isn’t so bad she’s bleeding through the gauze right away, and her hands aren’t fucked up too badly. Definitely not a hospital situation. Poor girl probably doesn’t have the money on her to deal with the hospital right now, anyway. The way she’s acting, he’s pretty damn sure there’s some kind of abuse at play, but she doesn’t want to go to the women’s shelter. She’s too old for programs targeted at children. So what exactly is Yuri supposed to do with her?
...Fuck it. He’s tired, she’s tired, he’s overdue for his next scruffy stray. “Look, if you’re comfortable with it, you can come to my place for the night. I’ve got a one-bedroom, not a studio, so you can take the bedroom and lock me out if that makes you feel safer. I can sleep on the couch.”
“I c-couldn’t—!”
“Sure you could. I’ve slept on the couch for stupider reasons.”
“But—“
“If you’re scared, we can call somebody you trust and tell them where you are, so you’ve got witnesses if I decide to murder you.”
“I don’t think you’re going to murder me,” she says, scrunching up her nose at him and then wincing when it pulls at her cheek. “I don’t want to impose.”
“Okay, but I don’t care,” Yuri says. “So I don’t think it really counts as imposing. I’m going to text Hanks—he’s the director of the community center, by the way—that I have a very sad young lady staying at my apartment tonight, so that the next time you ask a total stranger for shelter, you think of that and remember to have some degree of self-preservation.”
“Y-you don’t have to—“
“Yeah, yeah. Oh, minor detail—are you allergic to dogs?”
As it turns out, Estelle is not allergic to dogs, but it’s possible that dogs are allergic to her.
“He’s like that sometimes,” Yuri says, absentmindedly, while Repede staunchly ignores Estelle’s attempts to make friends with him.
“He isn’t friendly?”
When Yuri glances over his shoulder, she’s staring back at him with sad, disappointed eyes. She kneels beside Repede on the floor, bundled into spare clothes Yuri dug out of the community center’s storage for her. Wearing second-hand clothes, making undignified kissy noises at his dog, she looks much younger than she did at the community center. The pouty face she’s making at Repede probably isn’t doing her any favors in the maturity department either.
“He’s not so hot about strangers. Seriously, don’t take it personally.” He gives the chicken soup one last stir. Cooking at 2AM isn’t his favorite, but it is, unfortunately, a frequent occurrence nonetheless. “Alright, there’s soup if you want any.”
She accepts a bowl, but waits until Yuri has his own. She watches and copies him as he lifts it to face-level, carefully blowing across the surface, and drinks some of the broth. He almost snorts some back up laughing when her eyes go wide, and she visibly tries to swish the hot broth around her mouth to cool it.
“You have to blow like you mean it.”
“I don’t want to spill!”
“Just don’t burn yourself.”
Yuri has a table, because he isn’t a complete disaster. He and Estelle stand around next to the stove anyway, slurping soup directly out of the bowls. When the broth-to-solids ratio declines enough, they break out the spoons.
“You’re a really good cook,” Estelle says, sounding wistful. “I wish I could make stuff like this.”
“Keep in touch with me when you get your feet back under you and maybe I can teach you someday.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, really.”
“Thank you!”
Once they’ve drained their bowls, Yuri does a lick-and-spit clean-up job on the kitchen while Estelle does a circuit of his living room, snooping through his stuff. He hears her pause over the rush of the tap and doesn’t think anything of it until she ventures to say, “Is... is this Flynn? Flynn Scifo?”
“Probably,” Yuri says. He cranks the faucet off and turns to see what she’s looking at. It’s the picture Coach Niren took of the two of them at their first fencing tournament. Yuri’s still got the last chub of baby fat rounding out his cheeks, and he’s laughing with delight over some stupid shit Flynn had said. Flynn grins back at him, gangly and awkward with adolescence. He has his arm thrown aroun d Yuri’s shoulders. He looks like a damn puppy; he still needs to grow into his limbs. Yuri would die before he told anybody, but it’s one of his favorite pictures. Flynn was grouchy as shit in high school. Every smile Yuri could wrangle out of him was a privilege. “Yeah, that’s Flynn. You know him?”
“Yes... He’s, um, a student of my guardian’s.”
“Your guardian works at the university, then?”
Estelle fidgets a bit, wringing her hands. “Yes....”
Yuri mentally stores her nervous response for later discussion. He can give her a break at ass o’ clock in the morning. “You and Flynn get on well?”
“Yes! He’s very well-read. We talk about books together.”
“Ah, nerd club. Of course. Sounds just like him.”
“Are you...” Estelle glances over at him. “You know, I didn’t think of it until I saw this picture, but I think he’s mentioned you. Yuri? You’re his best friend, aren’t you?”
Yuri doesn’t answer her for a moment because he’s too startled by the fact that Flynn is, apparently, still calling Yuri his best friend even though they haven’t seen each other in a year and almost got in a fistfight last time they ran into each other. Not that Yuri doesn’t also still consider Flynn his best friend, but, like. Standards, Flynn. Have some. “Huh. Yeah.”
A shy smile spreads over her face. “You’re just like he described you.”
“Oh, geez. I’m sorry to hear that.”
“Huh?”
“I’ll try to be on my best behavior from here out.”
“What are you talking about? There’s nothing wrong with your behavior.”
Yuri stares at her again. “...I think we’re having two different conversations. How does Flynn describe me? Because I assumed he told you I was a pain in the ass.”
“What? No! He said you’ve got a big heart and you always try to help others.”
This is too much for Yuri to deal with at 2AM in front of a stranger. Or friend of a friend, apparently. Dammit. It’s always Flynn.
“Well, um. He did also say you were trouble.”
Oh, thank God, stable ground. “That sounds more like it. Come on, I’ll lend you some pajamas. We should both get to sleep. In the morning—like the real morning, not the fake morning right now—we can go back to the community center and talk to Hanks about your options.”
A week later, Estelle is still in his apartment. Yuri thinks she’s starting to grow on him. Not like a fungus, because Estelle is one of the only people he’s ever met that he would wholeheartedly describe as lovely. Terribly naive, mind-bogglingly sheltered, but lovely. So maybe like some kind of nice moss or something? He’s lost the trail of this metaphor.
He has bartending in the evening, these days, but when he’s at the community center in the mornings he tries to give her his attention. She seems overwhelmed by all the things she needs to find solutions for: housing, income, banking, emergency medical care... At least a few of those, he can help with. Hanks is a bigger asset. He’s got a lifetime of experience with helping uprooted young adults. Yuri is happy to put Estelle up for as long as it takes them to sort her shit out.
Still, he does sort of wonder if he’s gotten ahead of himself when Hanks texts him asking to talk to him and Estelle in private at his house. Hanks is usually fine with having personal conversations at the community center. Whatever he has to say must be serious.
“Should we have brought him something?” Estelle asks, a little nervously. She’s wearing clothes loaned from one of Yuri’s coworkers with Hanks’s jacket thrown over them. The ol d man refused to take it back from her when they met, and she’s barely taken it off since. She throws herself into hand-me-downs with an eagerness Yuri wouldn’t have expected, given her clothes the night they met.
“What? No. Why would we bring him something?”
“Well, you’re supposed to give your host a gift when you visit someone, aren’t you? Like a bottle of wine?”
“I know you grew up in the fancy rich high society life or some shit, but this is the Lower Quarter, princess. We don’t have the money for that kind of etiquette here. The only ‘wine’ Hanks is getting is the kind that comes out of my mouth.”
Estelle laughs quietly as Yuri knocks on the door and then shoves it open without waiting for a response.
“I’m in the kitchen,” Hanks calls, gruffly. Yuri shepherds Estelle in the right direction. Hanks has his back to them as he puts the finishing touches on a couple bowls of salad.
“Wow, breaking out the fresh vegetables for us and everything.”
“Someone has to make sure you kids get vitamins,” Hanks says, without looking up. He offers one of the bowls to Estelle. She peers into it curiously. “Spinach, bacon, cucumbers, and cherry tomatoes. I’ve got salad dressing in the fridge if you want some.”
“Yes, please,” Estelle says. Hanks waves her toward the small kitchen table while he goes to the fridge.
“Both of you have a seat. Estelle, what kind of dressing do you want?”
“Um. I’ll have whatever Yuri’s having.”
“Don’t let Yuri be your role model for everything,” Hanks warns her, even as he passes her the Italian dressing. “He’s a troublemaker.”
“I think he’s nice,” Estelle mumbles.
“You poor, misguided soul,” Yuri says. He takes the bottle from her when she’s done. “Hanks, you needed something from us?”
Hanks eases himself down into a chair across from them, groaning the whole way. The stubborn old man is going to hurt himself one of these days if he doesn’t give in and get a cane. “I did. Well, there’s not really a good way to get into this. Here. Take a look.”
He takes a piece of paper out of his breast pocket and unfolds it, dropping it on the table in front of them. It’s a flyer, the kind small local businesses will have on community boards or that gets slapped up on light posts on the street. It reads:
MISSING PERSON: ESTELLISE SIDOS HEURASSEIN
LAST SEEN AT ZAPHIAS UNIVERSITY, NEAR MEDICAL SCHOOL
18 YEARS OLD; 5’5” TALL; PINK HAIR AND GREEN EYES
CONTACT ZPD [(XXX) XXX-XXXX] OR DEAN ALEXEI DINOIA [ [email protected] ] WITH INFORMATION. REWARD IF FOUND.
In the middle of the page is a poor-quality, grainy picture of Estelle. It’s water-stained, with the colors distorted so that her face is barely recognizable. Yuri’s not convinced he would recognize her if he didn’t already know who it was. The flyer must have been outside. Along the bottom are tear-off tabs with the police number and the Dean’s email on them. Yuri recognizes the domain; it’s the official university mail service, so it must be the Dean’s professional email. It seems like an odd choice for a missing person ad. Looks like a few tabs have been taken.
Yuri glances sideways at Estelle. She stares down at the flyer, pale and scared like Yuri hasn’t seen her since their first encounter. They just stopped gooping up the scrape, so it’s scabbing over now , and the bruising has turned a sickly green as it heals.
“I...” She swallows, hard, putting her fork down. “I don’t...”
“Listen,” Hanks says, with a sigh. “I’m not about to turn you in. I don’t think Yuri will, either.”
“Fuck, no.”
“But I can’t promise nobody in the Lower Quarter will. Folks here are hurting for cash. Someone who sees you at the community center might take them up on it, even if they aren’t proud of it, so they can put food on the table.”
“...Yes. I understand.”
Hanks scratches at his beard. “I guess all I’m askin’ is that you think about stopping by the police station yourself. I don’t want Yuri to get charged with kidnapping.”
That makes Estelle jerk her head up, eyes wide. “Yuri could get in trouble?”
“Sure. He’s been on the wrong side of the law before—“
“The tweedles deserved to get pushed into the canal, you know that—“
“I do, son, but the police still weren’t none too happy about it. They aren’t much fond of him, and now he’s got a missing person stashed in his apartment. Ain’t a hard case to make.”
“But he’s not making me stay there!”
Hanks shrugs. “They could argue coercion if they get a bee in their bonnet. That’s why I’m suggesting you stop by the police station yourself, to let them know that you left under your own will and you aren’t missing. It doesn’t mean you have to go back to your old life. The community’s happy to help you figure something else out, like we have been.”
Estelle wrings her hands under the table. She looks down at the flyer again.
“I don’t want to go back,” she says, voice small.
“I’m telling you, you don’t have to.”
“If I talk to the police, they’ll make me go back.”
“You’re eighteen,” Yuri says. “You can go wherever the hell you want. They can’t make you go back if you don’t want to.”
“Will you come with me? To the police station?”
“Probably not a good idea,” Hanks says. “Remember, we want to show them that you’re staying in the Lower Quarter under your own free will.”
“I can still drive you there and wait nearby, though,” Yuri says. “I’ll hang out in a parking lot or something. Just scream real loud and I’ll come grab you.”
“Don’t scream unless you have no other choice, the police don’t like that.”
“Who cares what the police like? If they try to mess with you, break their eardrums.”
“Yuri, for God’s sake, don’t get the poor girl in trouble.”
Estelle giggles a little, high and anxious. The smile slides back off her face quickly, though. “I can... can I still stay with you? After I talk to the police?”
“Sure.”
“Really? I promise I’ll—I’ll stop by the bank, and get a new account set up. Then I can try to find a job and pay you b—“
“Estelle, chill. There’s no rush.”
“But—!”
“We’ll get it sorted out. Might take a bit, but we’ll get you there. You don’t need to freak out.”
“I just—“ Estelle sniffles a bit. Oh, God, no. No crying. Please no more crying. Yuri is terrible at comforting people. “You’ve been so kind, both of you, and I haven’t even told you anything and you’re still helping me, and I feel so bad, and—“
Yuri fidgets with a lock of his own hair. “I mean. This isn’t exactly a huge mystery. You’ve got big bruises on your face and you don’t want to go back somewhere. I might not have a fancy education, but I can put two and two together.”
“I... I guess that’s...”
“We don’t really need more information than that. Anyway, you’re a friend of Flynn’s. He would kick my ass if he found out I didn’t look out for you.”
“But you offered to let me stay with you before you knew—“
Hanks reaches across the table to pat her shoulder. “Don’t bother, miss. Let Yuri believe the rest of us think he’s a tough guy. We all know he’s really a big softie.”
Yuri splutters indignantly. “Hey!”
“He climbs trees to get children’s cats down for them,” Hanks stage-whispers to Estelle. She giggles, more genuinely this time. Yuri would be pleased if it weren’t at his goddamn expense.
“One time! Was I just supposed to leave Ted’s cat stranded?! He had a broken leg!”
“One time? Son, you’ve done that twice in the last year.”
“Tell Ted to get a better cat! I swear, next time I’m leaving the damn thing up there.”
“Yesterday,” Estelle tells Hanks, solemnly, wiping a tear away from the corner of her eye, “He held two babies for a busy mom. At once.”
Hanks chortles. Yuri groans, aggrieved. “I changed my mind, you can’t stay with me. You’re a menace.”
“No, no. You’re right, we can’t risk Flynn’s wrath. The young lady is here to stay.”
Estelle catches Yuri’s eye again and gives him that small, shy smile again. Yuri shakes his head, fond despite himself. He returns a wry smile. Of course she’s staying. He never should have expected anything different. On some level, he thinks he didn’t.
“Alright, princess. I guess I’m stuck with you.”
“I’m in your care!”

some more rusong lives things copied from a chat with @irleughlivelyatalanteangodfan because i sincerely don’t trust tumblr not to eat them in some way
re: rusong finding out about Things and Stuff
HHHHH that's the thing i've been avoiding thinking about because there's just... a lot... to consider... i'm a big fan of rusong the unsupervised too-young kid trailing behind wwx and the juniors, pulling the "i have big round eyes and dimples and no qualms about using them whenever i can" card when they're like... ok.... you're too young, maybe wait this one out, it'll be scary! so idk if he would be with the juniors in burial mounds? jgy probably wouldn't let him go anyway, i mean that's his SON, but i really want him to be in lotus pier when Everything Comes Out! so maybe he's like, YOU DON'T OWN ME, DAD!!! (worst moment for that, kid) and runs away to follow his cool cousin and his friends! and maybe finds them like, minutes before wwx and lwj do. su she sees him and he's like FUCK THE BOSS' KID IS THERE WHAT DO WE DO THAT WASN'T IN THE PLAN and eventually jrs goes to lotus pier and su she's like... oh... boss might... want to know about it.... and runs to tell jiggy. meanwhile rusong finds out, the meeting is, somehow, TEN TIMES AS AWKWARD now that The Incest Kid is physically present here. and he's like, pale as paper before running off into the night. the juniors looks for him but due to him being a master at hiding, they don't find him. (at some point he catches wind of wwx and lwj, follows them from the distance, gets to yunping, enters the scene after jin ling does and... for a short while everyone feels bad for jiggy for what's about to happen... (hint: shouting! crying! "you lied to me!" "i hate you!" "i would rather never have been born!" and other hits, TRAUMA! qin su coming up like hey a-yao are you okay ther-- OH FUCK, EVEN MORE SHOUTING, everyone just wants to go home, nie huaisang is shriveling up with second-hand embarrassment, etc)
re: would qin su and rusong watch the temple collapse around jiggy’s Dead Body
AAAAAAAA list en that would be full of Crunch and Flavour and Trauma but i... am a soft bastard, at heart... perhaps it wouldn't even have happened because there's one (1) screaming young teenager and one (1) wife who would also like to talk about her sins (i don't think anyone would say the "but he was your father" line in her presence) BUT even if everything happened like in canon, up to the "huaisang does his bit" part, i think it would go differently, because qin su would be the second person patching jiggy up, and i think she'd have her own meds so lxc wouldn't need to. yknow
continuing the thought, horribly: RUSONG HATES BOTH OF HIS PARENTS NOW!
qin su is patching her stupid husband up, absolutely r e f u s i n g to feel a single pang of shame; she’s gone through the same thing fourteen years ago, that’s enough for her, thank you.
they still want to go to dongying, spoiler: rusong very much does not, after some rounds of ‘jin rusong COME HERE THIS INSTANT’ ‘no!! i won’t!!! you won’t make me!!!’ something just... cracks in jiggy, not big time, but the way a ceramic mug cracks on the surface and you’re like oh, gotta be careful with it. fine then, stay, jgy says, and qin su’s hand clenches around his shoulder, but once he enters the i’m going to tell you things and you will suffer zone, you could stop him only by a physical attack. do you want to go back to your room and cry into your pillow? sure, who wouldn’t. they’ll definitely let you keep it, after all, you’re just a child, a poor child of a whoreson and a daughter born of rape, half-siblings, offspring of one old lecher; what a fine lineage that is!
approximately everyone is shouting at him to shut the fuck up now.
surely you would get the respect and compassion you deserve. surely no one would whisper behind your back, surely staying there would be as pleasant as a holiday trip. maybe someone could take pity and send you away, like poor mo xuanyu, but... is there anyone who would want anything to do with you? do you really believe that?
shut up shut up it’s not necessary just let’s take him and go, qin su is hissing.
think, how many people present in lotus pier were kind to you before? calling you young master jin, everything for young master jin, what an outstanding young cultivator? have you read the room, like i taught you? have you counted how many of them were swallowing down shouts of disgust?
you want to go back to jinlintai? maybe become the future sect leader? surely your presence would be tolerated, everyone would love you and help you just like when your parents were worth something!
i must have raised you wrong if you don’t think any of them would kill you without batting an eye.
EVERYONE IN THE ROOM:
Tumblr media
or something? (*´ω`)

I've struggled with putting this anywhere. I started writing it in emails, on Twitter, on DeviantArt, even on Dreamwidth. I've stopped each time. I'm pretty sure this won't even go up, but let's see.
I'm having a lot of trouble dealing with people, right now. I'm lonely, and miserable, and yearning for friendship, but I cannot handle it. I cannot handle dealing with people, no matter how close I am to them. This includes – yes – people I consider to be family. This includes by family, even. I have lost contact with dozens of people that I’ve sworn never to lose contact with – or they have chosen to lose contact with me – and it's starting to… affect me.
All I’ve been able to do is write. I can't talk. Or if I do try to talk, I fuck it up. I have no been open with how I’ve been feeling, what I’ve been going through, and why I've avoided people I don't want to avoid. I don't want to talk about myself, so when I talk to people, once they ask about me, I end the convo or change the subject. I can't take it. I don't want to fucking talk about it.
But here we are. You're reading this, clearly, because you want to know what's wrong with me, for whatever fucking reason. Fine you want to know? Read on. If you don't? Stop reading and please stop asking me. I want to make this clear that I’ve kept this shit to myself because nobody cares about problems like I have. I think. If you're reading this, you're not nobody. Whatever, anyway.
My pain started getting worse two years ago, so I had my gallbladder removed. That was the biggest mistake of my life. I should not have done it. Because now, I’m worse off.
Since 2017, my health has been progressing into worse and worse problems, to the point that medications no longer work on me, save high doses of morphine. I'm not allowed to be on morphine, anymore, save dire emergencies in the ER (it's the only thing that stops the flare up). During these pain flare-ups, I want to die. I can't deal. I can't even think. All I can do is lie on the couch and cry, zoning out on YouTube. It's especially gotten worse since I quit smoking, but not enough to start, again.
The night I missed my niece being born, I broke. I lost it. I lost my patience with this illness of mine. I ended up missing one of the most important moments of her life, spending it in a hospital two hours away, being ignored and mistreated and mocked – and then ignored. It severed something mentally.
Since then, I haven't been okay.
I've ruined my own birthday, twice; the day of was spent sobbing over vaccinations. The day of the party was spent in misery, because the party had nothing to do with me – I was being used as a ruse to make it about Ellie – and when I left, the party went on without me – what I thought was the entire idea, that I'd been used for these reasons. And to be honest, I still don't know what happened after I left, because no one told me. No one thought to. No one cared enough to, it felt to me.
I started drifting more and more away, only now by people I speak to online, either through chat or phone calls. I stopped being able to deal with talking to people one-on-one, because emails gave me time to think about what I had to say, instead of speaking on the fly and hurting people. Only it still didn't work.
My depression was also getting worse. I needed more and more attention, more reassurance, in a world that is more and more making me feel adrift and left behind. When I was able to catch up, I merely discovered how much I kept missing, how happy people are without me around their ankle. I realised how many people I’ve been holding back for years, and it almost killed me.
I tried to explain it to those people I ignored, tried to explain that I’m broken, I’ll never be what they deserve or need, and that they need to walk lest I keep fucking them up further. I tried, but whatever I said was overlooked because I was a good person before now. I keep trying to explain that I’m not a good person, anymore, because the pain is making me insane, and I don't know how to deal with people, anymore, but… nobody's listening to me…
So this is my last try. This is what I should have said when any of you started to be my friends. Look at the people who've already walked, and you'll notice that I’m the common bad variable, and nothing else. I know that many of you want me to hang around because of what I was once like. And honestly, I miss what I was like back then, too.
But then, June 2017. It was the start of the end. The injections. The dozens and dozens of ER tests and humiliation and abuse. The money and ignorance of the hospital staffs (when told what to do to help and how fast it would help me if they just did it). People online, people offline, seeing me disabled and seeing a brat.
Over the past four years, I’ve been a part of the Undertale fandom, a game that saved my life and a fandom that kept me living, and I met so many of you, cared about so many of you – but somehow shoved you all away. The more you cared, the more I ran away.
Why? Because I deserve to be alone.
I've said this, many times, in different ways, but I’m told I’m wrong, when I’m right, and it hurts. So I stopped talking. I made it obvious that I’m not worth your time.
Because I didn't want to explain what was going on.
My medications aren't working, anymore, so they keep switching them. Now, they're switching my antidepressant, and it's… bad. It's very bad. I have to taper off my current med, then start from scratch with the new one, and the decrease is making my depression stronger. I haven't been able to speak on the phone or even go out (save mandatory doctor visits), and I keep taking everything personally and crying over everything. Three times, I’ve convinced myself that Terry is going to divorce me. It's bad.
Because of it, I don't know what's up or down, what's true or false, and no matter how much I trust someone, I still feel like all I am is someone to be pitied, and I would rather never be pitied, but either loved for who I am, or hated for that same reason.
And that's because I hate myself for feeling this way. I have been secluding myself to both punish myself and prove to you all how unreliable and gross I am.
A lot of you are younger than me, and have enough to deal with. I'm also aware that a lot of you are young enough to make your own decisions, especially when it comes to people. But what I’m doing is inappropriate. The things I complain and beg advice for are not appropriate. I treat you like shrinks, forgetting your age and your own lives and problems and issues.
It makes me sick, my selfishness. And I can't fucking deal with it.
So I’ve been staying away, save angry tweets and angrier YouTube comments. The rare times I reach out usually end worse off than when I did before I reached out, so I have learned not to.
And finally, for the very last time, I must say this: I know I am immature, I am stunted, I am behind the times, and I cannot fix it. I try to, by using all of you like the scumbag I am, and not bothering to listen to you or help you. I cry my problems, then run away the second you need me.
I'm so tired of it. I can't do this to people, anymore. I've been trying to gradually disappear, save stuff that keep me sane (fanfic and comics), and while many of you keep me sane, I’m tired of using you that way, too.
I know this is me mind-reading, as many of you will say. But, I’m sorry, this isn't that at all. This is me paying attention to what is being said and shown to me, and now, I get it.
Please, please, please stop insisting this isn't so. The fact that every time I mention it, it's left ignored, and often shamefully so, and that angers me. I pour my heart out, explain, answer the questions I’m being asked but it's ignored, only so that I can be asked for help that I just finished screaming myself raw that I can't help anyone the way I am, anymore.
My brain refuses to listen to kindness, anymore. It refuses to accept that anyone wants to bother with me, because on one hand, I’ve been given shameful proof that I’m absolutely right in my sad assessment. But on the other, I’m aware that a few of you are sincere, and do mean what you said.
But I can't tell the difference. I need help. I need real help, a kind that I need before I can even dream of being a good friend or a kind person to any of you. I can be nice, be complimentary, be honest in my affection and happy feelings for you, and all is sincere. But I have deep difficulty believing the same from you, to me, because of my pain and my depression. I know many of you with depression understand.
But why don't you give up on me…? Why can't you see that I’m right, that I don't blame you for giving up on me, because all I’ve been is a disgusting person, even at my most well-meaning.
I don't even know why I’m bothering posting this, here. I don't know why I’m posting it. I just think it's time to put words to feelings I couldn't put words to, before now.
I'm not trying to be friendless. But I’m trying to be worthy of friends. So far, I cannot see myself there, yet. So many of you have a real life to live, true futures within your grasps; what the hell are you doing still talking to some middle-aged pathetic loser and wasting your time on the internet that way? There are better places to visit on the internet than any place to do with me, personally.
I get wanting to want to read my bullshit stuff. I'm flattered. But no, you don't need to be my friends, no matter how pathetic or lonely I am. That's my problem, not yours. You are all young, and happy, and have your own hurdles to overcome. I write that stuff to provide an escape for you and for me. That's all that you need to know about me, really.
I'm not saying that you cannot be my friend anymore. I'm not saying you're not allowed to speak to me. I am saying that it might take me time to answer, or to do what you asked of me, etc. I am saying that thanks to my increasing mental illness, I am no longer a good person to be around, at least until the problem is rectified.
I actually don't know what I’m saying, honestly. I don't want to be alone, but I’m tired of bothering people who do. I don't like spending my days alone, but I don't want to harass people with better things to do. I'm tired of being what no one wants and tired of being unwanted once people discover the real me.
I'm a garbage person. I hate myself.
And you deserve not to have that in your life.
That's all.
I'm sorry.

honorary monster
TFC-NET’S August 2017 creation event: .
↳  WEEK 1: Brotps
one last thing I'm throwing on the internet before the brotp week ends
-
Before Neil, before Abram, Andrew had Natalie Renee Walker, and she was a blessing.
Airplanes were a strange stressor because he didn’t know the cause. He could name events tied to every other fear, every source of panic. There was nothing that made him fear flight except flight itself.
During their first far game of the season, all the way in Vermont, Andrew almost refused to go. Wymack insisted with his Coach Voice that he get on the damn plane, but it was absolutely a lost cause. That is, until Renee stepped in and sat with him in the newly named monsters dorm while everyone was packing for an overnight. He was only partially interested in what she had to say, but offered a wide smile and a twirl of the knife in his hands anyway.
“If we were in the zombie apocalypse, who would you bring?” she asked. Andrew didn’t know, but Renee told Kevin and Aaron to pack a bag for him. She promised to get him on that plane.
Andrew just smiled wider. “What’s your game, Walker? Think you’re going to convince me to get on that death trap with you by coming up with some fanciful distraction? Think again,” he said, holding the knife between their faces as he leaned forward. “That’s not how I want to go out.”
“I was just curious,” Renee said. “Five people on your team. I would save you, Abby, Betsy, Allison, and Wymack. We would have the best chance of survival, I think.”
He snorted, still sitting close but the knife lowered. Renee was sitting in front of his beanbag and he was half sitting on it, half kneeling in front of her, and fiddling with the knife in his lap. “Abby and Wymack would be too busy making out. Allison is strong but too slow. Bee would play martyr and sacrifice herself.”
Aaron and Kevin walked into the room with backpacks. Aaron had one, Kevin had two. They kept walking, not paying any mind to the two on the floor, even as Andrew eyed them both suspiciously.
“Why does Kevin have two bags, Renee?”
“I do believe I heard Nicky saying that he forgot his in the room,” she hummed. Nicky had packed his the night before and snuck it into the boy’s room, where he was now with Seth and Matt. The fifth years were with Wymack, probably helping to get everything organized because “they owe me some sanity.”
Dan came around, peeking her head in the door. “Two minutes,” she said. “Coach is more than willing to leave without us.”
“Would you like to at least accompany me to the airport? I want to heard your lineup.”
Huffing, Andrew stood and slipped the knife back into his sleeve. Renee got up after him.
Dan took Renee’s bag down to the bus while she and Andrew went empty handed. He didn’t seem eager to take his own car, or maybe he just didn’t think about how he would get home. He was missing a few links lately, he saw. He blamed Walker and her damn friendship.
After being convinced by Kevin and, over the phone, Bee (he was only just learning to trust her), he let Renee take him through the airport on the condition that Kevin kept carrying his stuff.
When it was time to board their flight, Andrew went ridgid. Aaron waved a hand in front of him, standing from a safe distance. Everyone but him and Renee had boarded already, even Wymack with the orders of “get him on the fucking plane.”
Fumbling with his phone, Aaron pulled up Bee’s number and held the phone to Andrew’s ear.
“What’s up?” she asked through the receiver.
“They’re making me board the death trap, is all,” Andrew replied, much to cheery. He had skipped his meds and they were wearing off. He held his hand out to Aaron and he fished his brother’s meds out of his bag, handing him a dose and a bottle of water that he was carrying.
He took his meds while Bee talked. “Andrew, nowadays planes don’t just crash. We’ve come a long way since those horror stories you read. There’s excellent security, engineering, the whole bit. The ante’s been upped a lot.”
He listened to her talk while Renee walked his numbing body through the gate. Aaron showed all three of their tickets. He wasn’t Renee’s biggest fan, but he could respect her comradery.
They got on the plane and the flight attendant went on about safety - they were the last ones on and just in time - while Andrew zoned, picking at the skin on his knuckles and comfortable sitting between his brother and Renee for now. Until the flight started.
She looked down, frowning at the red digs that were close to bleeding. She dug a stress ball from her bag and Andrew made an exaggerated scowl at it. She put it back and got a pen for him. He took it, albeit reluctantly, and fiddled it with both hands. He snapped off the clip at the top and they were almost done taxing before Renee started talking.
“So, who’s on your team?” she asked, keeping her voice low.
He grinned a little. “Are you really still trying to distract me?”
She held her hand open, palm up, between them. He took it and she wrapped her fingers between his and while he didn’t make any effort to squeeze hers back, his fingers clenched hers and his nails dug at her skin.
“Just tell me who,” she urged.
The plane began to lift off the ground. He couldn’t stop thinking about it but told Renee anyway, because it was better to have multiple focuses.
“I wouldn’t take anyone,” he said. “If you want to follow me that’s fine, but you’ll be on your own.”
Renee smiled a bit, if only in exasperation. “That seems about right for you, Andrew. I hope you’ll want to take someone with you, someday.”
Andrew and Aaron switched seats as soon as the light signaled they could move. He tried to get up sooner, but a flight attendant glared at him when he unbuckled his seatbelt.
“Thank you,” Aaron whispered to her, not all manners lost to him, when his brother put in earbuds. Andrew had snapped the body of the pen in half beside him, the ink cartridge thankfully intact, and Renee fished a new one out of her bag while Aaron talked. “You could have been a monster, you know?”
“Would you like it if I was?” she asked with a knowing smile. He looked at his feet and grumbled. “I’ll stay an honorary monster. That’s what Andrew called me last week, at least.”
Andrew never thanked Renee for her help on flights, but over the next year she did find small presents on her bed now and again. She would get a package of cookies, a fancy cupcake from the gourmet place just outside campus, or maybe some fuzzy socks. Once, just before winter break, she found a book about the zombie apocalypse and smiled.

The Raven King, Chapter 4 – Andrew Does Shit No One Expects Him To, Pt. 2
In which Orange Sportsball finally starts to form into something resembling teamwork, the Foxes drag Neil for “I’m fine”, I suggest a quality mascot design, and Neil pulls some sweet stunts, only to be dramatically and jaw-droppingly out-stunted by Andrew ‘Extra’ Minyard.
Sounds good? Then it’s time for Nicki to read The Raven King.
GUESS WHO’S FCKNG BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have risen from the ashes of my shattered laptop, finally ready to once again bring you the foxy shitpost content you love and deserve. I’m writing this from a Dell brick that probably came out while I was still in elementary school and weighs as much as a small child, but I don’t care. It has a keyboard and a screen and Microsoft Word, and that’s all that matters.
Back not with a fizzle, but with a bang: I bring you an event filled with drama, shade and Extra, brimming with excitement and recklessness –
The first actually epic Exy game of this series: Palmetto State vs Belmonte University.
(This is a tad longer to make up for lost time, so strap yourselves in.)
They were driving back after the game instead of checking into a hotel for the night. (…) They could have just hired a driver like most schools did, but Wymack was almost as leery of dealing with outsiders as his Foxes were. It was apparently better to be uncomfortable but safe than to trust a stranger with his fractured team.
This is ya friendly reminder that Wymack is a badass protective mother hen and deserves everything good in this world. My dude :’)))))))))) #dicksoutforwymack
They stopped for gas and a bathroom break, stopped again for a quick dinner, and crossed a time zone on their way to Nashville.
And this is ya friendly reminder that American is large as hell. DIFFERENT TIMEZONES. IN THE SAME COUNTRY. How is this a real place.
They arrive at the stadium and Neil is once again faced with his worst enemy (besides new clothes):
Communal showers.
The only reason the Foxes had private stalls on the men’s room was because Wymack specifically commissioned them. Neil forcibly focused back on the task at hand. First he had to survive the game, then he could worry about the showers.
I initially wanted to make fun of the fact that this is a real sentence, but actually I kind of understand what it’s like to not want to show parts of your body to everyone, so. He gets a pass.
Also, the idea of trans!Neil just does not leave my head. I want a billion pieces of fanart/fanfic now.
It’s almost game time!
Neil didn’t see the Vixens, the Foxes’ all-girls cheerleading squad, or their mascot Rocky Foxy.
The have a fucking mascot??? Oh my actual God. What is it, an oversized Fox? Complete with a jersey, a black eye and a big FUCK YOU spelled on its forehead to match the team?
Why have we never heard of this before, this is the best thing ever.
[Belmonte’s Terrapin mascot] stopped a safe distance back from their benches to make a couple crude thrusts at them. Nicky was happy to return it until Wymack swatted him upside his head.
Oh Nicky, never change. <3
Kevin pulled one of his racquets free, fingered the strings like they might have come loose on the drive, and went over to the court walls. He didn’t spare the crowd a single look; all he cared about was right in front of him.
And if you look to your left, you’ll see Kevin being his usual Exy-obsessed, stoic and mighty self.
Also ahehehehe… Fingered. Hi, I’m 12.
As they are getting ready, Neil gets some sweet advice from Kevin – basically, only do boring ass gameplay until the second half and then go so hard you and I both bust a nut, also Andrew should realistically collapse field from withdrawal but he’ll probably hold up through sheer ego alone.
Sounds legit and like there could be nothing going wrong with it, at all.
We also briefly meet Katelyn, Aaron’s crush and – as I’m guessing – probably his date for the banquet thingy they’ve got coming up soon.
(You think I forgot about that, didn’t you. I never forget about opportunities for Fox banter, dress-up and hilarious social situations.)
However it’s not entirely a fun encounter as it’s time for another episode of our popular show What The Actual Fuck, Andrew?:
“Oh.” Andrew slapped his fist into his palm as if the answer had just occurred to him. He flashed Matt a wicked grin but answered in German. “Maybe he’s afraid she’ll die on him like the last woman he really loved.”
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK, ANDREW. Also, what the actual fuck, backstory. I need it now.
No time to ponder on it, it’s game time, fuckers!
We’re kicking things off a bit unusual – literally:
Neil listened for a serve that didn’t come. For a second he was afraid Allison would lock up and refuse to move. He was halfway to Herrera before he heard the distinctive thump of a ball against Andrew’s oversized racquet. Allison had served it back to him, and Andrew smashed it up the court toward the strikers.
Have I mentioned how much I love functioning teamwork amongst my children? Because fuck, yeah.
Have I mentioned what I also love? Some good ass Kevin/Neil Exy action.
The only bright point was realizing his lessons with Kevin were paying off. (…) Passing wasn’t what Neil wanted to do in this game, but he could already see how he was improving. His shots were harder and more accurate, and it took him less time to figure out where to throw.
My beb :) improving :) being taught by Kevin because Kevin sees the heaps of potential in this boy and wants to make him the best he can :) I’m fine :)
Wymack (…) send out his substitutes. Neil wasn’t between Kevin and the door, but Kevin detoured past him anyway on his way out.
           “Destroy him”, he said.
Neil felt like he’d been waiting for this all his life. “Yeah.”
Fuck yEAH :’)))))))))))
(Again, reminding you all that I am passionate multishipper who gets into p much any ship if dynamics present themselves unto her, unless they are super problematic. If I make any comments about ships you don’t like – cool, we all have our own tastes but please don’t send me rude comments about it.)
From that point on, my friends, the game finally catches me and holds my attention way more than the first game did. It’s on, you guys. Passes are flying left and right and our faves are working together, I really cannot stress enough how much I love functioning teamwork.
And then, of course, Neil pulls This Shit™:
He knew Herrera was right behind him for a body check. If he got crushed between the wall and Herrera, he’d lose the ball in the fight. Neil caught the ball right off the wall but didn’t try to protect it. Instead, he gave the butt of his racquet a hard pop with one fist. It sent the ball flying straight up out of the net. He dropped to his knees in the same breath.
He almost wasn’t fast enough. Herrera crashed into him at full speed a half-second later, but Neil wasn’t where Herrera was expecting him to be. He tripped over Neil’s body and (…) crashed into the wall head-first. (…)
Neil scooped the ball up and took off for goal. (…) He looked only at the goalkeeper and knew he was going to score. He put all of his first-half frustration behind his swing. The goalkeeper swatted at it and missed. The wall lit up red to confirm the point.
FFFUCKKK YEAHHH. This is the most badass shit he’s done since The Talk Show Incident™ (although nothing tops that ofc) and I am way proud of my son.
Also, Neil dealt with that backliner how I deal with my responsibilities: Letting them come at me full-speed and then swiftly ducking out of their reach.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Not before long, the first half is over and they’re at an even score! Amazing, wonderful, 100/10 proud mama right here.
Neil couldn’t feel his feet, but he assumed they were down there somewhere. The shoulder he’d hurt in the first half was still throbbing thanks to the well-aimed blows of his new backliner mark.
What a fucking asshole move. Oh, you’re already injured there? Let me hit you a couple extra times, just for good measure, just to really fuck you up.
Remember that thing about Andrew staying off his meds, and how it’s going totally well? Yeah.
Andrew stood a silent stone in their midst, looking a thousand miles away from all of this. He was a vacuum his teammates rowdy cheer couldn’t touch.
           “Stop it.” (…)
Andrew slid a bored look Neil’s way. “I’m not doing anything.”
“Exactly,” Neil wanted to say, but he knew it was a senseless argument. He didn’t have the right words for that gnawing feeling in his stomach.
Ah yes :)))
Tumblr media
Wymack shows up and scolds them for not pushing harder earlier, yadda yadda, team talk. And then, I present to you the genuinely funniest thing to happen this chapter:
Abby came to Neil last and stayed with him, feeling the line of his shoulder armour through his jersey. “How are you doing?” (…)
           “I’m fine.”
Nicky fist-pumped in triumph. “Thank you for being so predictable, Neil. You just scored me ten bucks with two words.”
Matt look up. “Are you serious? Who the hell bet against you?”
Nicky jerked a thumb at Kevin. “There’s a sucker born every minute.”
I am hOWLING. I cannot believe they bet on his “I’m fine” oh my god this is the bEST.
DRAG. HIM.
The running gag of Neil “I’m fine” Josten will never not make my day. Neither will the Foxes’ obsession with betting on everything. I LOVE IT.
Kevin, never able to be anything but serious, drags him even more, but not in a fun way:
“You’re an idiot. Do you see this?” he brandished his left hand at Neil. (…) “Injuries are not a joke. They are not something to gloss over. (…) If you ever say ‘I’m fine’ about your health again, I will make you rue the day you were born.”
Yikes.
Abby eyed Neil. “I’ll ask again, then. Are you okay?”
“I’m –“ It was too automatic a response. (…) “It’s just sore. So long as I can keep my mark off my right side I’ll be – okay.”
Matt laughed at the near-miss. “I don’t see this experiment ending well, Neil.”
“Some people are just hardwired to be stupid,” Wymack said.
I’m literally loving every single thing about this.
Fun times over, they go back on the field for second half, where Neil sits out on the sidelines at first and uses this opportunity to talk about his favourite subject: Andrew.
“Why does Andrew do this?” Neil asked, unable to stay quiet any longer. “If he doesn’t care about Exy, what’s the point of going through this every Friday?”
“Would you want to be crazy high every day of your life?” Matt asked.
No, but in my opinion, that still doesn’t add up. He could have probably picked any day to go meds-free, Wymack would have taken him anyways – I don’t know, pick every Sunday or every Monday or every Wednesday after lunch, it doesn’t matter. Why Exy?
The only logical reason to pick Exy days over other days is the possibility that – shocking! – Andrew does care about this dumb sport after all.
Excited for the final explanation of this. I have a hunch there’s still more to it.
In other news – my feelings:
The Foxes were notorious for their shoddy teamwork, so most people forgot they were a Class I school. (…) If the Foxes could get over their differences and learn to compromise every once in a while, they’d be a formidable force. (…)
Neil wanted to be part of this evolution. He wanted to feel the team click into perfect synchrony, even if it lasted only a moment.
Tumblr media
Give me all that good teamwork, and give it to me now.
The Terrapins came as hard as they could, but the Foxes shoved back with a ferocity the home team wasn’t expecting. They were exhausted, but Matt rallied the defense around him and Neil had permission to run himself ragged on the offense. (…) Every minute on the court brought him one minute closer to saying goodbye to Exy forever. He didn’t want to miss a single second.
As always, angst is the best motivator.
They’re all getting fired up and playing their hearts out when we near the most dramatic part of the game – the Foxes in the lead by one point, sixty seconds left on the clock. And then –
Eight seconds from the end a terrapin striker got the ball. Aaron ran after him, but he was too exhausted to close the gap. The striker’s ten steps took him all the way to the foul line for his shot.
Oh shit.
The goal was too wide and Andrew too small; there was no way Andrew could stop a shot this close-range. (…) Even if Andrew could get there fast enough, the ball was too low to the ground for him to swing his massive racquet.
Oh. Shit.
Except Andrew was moving before the striker finished taking his shot, as if he already knew where the striker was going to aim, and he didn’t even try to swing. He threw himself at the ground as far over as he could and slammed his racquet down between the ball and the goals so hard Neil heard wood crack all the way across the court. He was just fast enough; the ball hit the taut strings of his racquet and bounced off.
OH SHITTTTTTTTT!!!!! BOI!!!!!! THE FUCK!!!!!! IM YELLING!!!!
This is exactly the sort of Extra and Dramatic Shit™ I was missing.
HOLY SHIT, WHAT A SAVE.
And with that, the game is over, FUCK YEAH.
Tumblr media
Andrew, of course, is now completely done.
Kevin didn’t have to ask what was going on. He’d lied to cameras for years and knew how to buy Andrew time. (…)
Andrew let go with one hand and gestured. Kevin gestured back as if having an actual conversation. The only sound either of them made was the desperate gasp of air through clenched teeth as Andrew tried not to get sick in front of the crowd.
Cool move, actually. They seem to have done this before? I continue being beyond intrigued by their dynamic.
The rest of the team fell in around them, bringing the celebration to their strikers and forming an impromptu barricade around their fallen goalkeeper.
Team <333
Protect that smol sick bastard, he just saved all your asses.
They get Andrew off the court safely, and with that, it’s good things all around.
Neil had never seen Wymack smile like this. It was small but fierce, as angry as it was proud. “That’s more like it. Draw sticks and figure out who’s helping me fend off the press. The rest of you get your sticky, stinky asses to the showers.”
What a DAD. Love him.
“Renee and I will handle it,” Dan said as they headed to the locker room. “Neil, you can use the girls’ showers while we’re busy.”
           Neil stared at her. “What?”
Dan frowned at him, so Matt explained. “There aren’t stalls here.”
LET ME FUCKING LOVE YOU. I cannot get over this move, what the hell, that is so sweet.
Foxes being there for each other :’) I’m fine :’)))))))))))))
Neil had noticed, but he hadn’t thought his teammates would. That they had, and that they were doing something about it, knocked the wind out of him. He tried to answer, but he didn’t know what to say. The best he managed was, “Is that really okay?”
“Kid, you’re killing me,” Nicky said. “Why do you always get that deer-in-the-headlights look when someone does something nice for you?”
Yet another installment in our popular series Neil Doesn’t Realize People Actually Care About Him, episode 4 of a billion!
Before we finally leave this long-ass trip of a chapter, Andrew briefly joins Wymack, Andrew, and Andrew’s new best friend Johnnie Walker Blue for a chat:
“Why did you pay for stalls, Coach?”
Wymack lifted one shoulder in a shrug. “Maybe I knew you’d need them one day.”
Andrew smiled around the mouth of his bottle. “Neil is a walking tragedy.”
“You’re a pretty pathetic sob story yourself,” Wymack said.
Smol beans :’) bonding over how fucked up they are :’) love em.
Also #dicksoutforwymack, all day, every day. Maybe I knew you’d need them one day, holy shit, please have my platonic babies.
Andrew headed for the door, but Neil put a hand in his path. “How did you do it? How did you know where to go?”
“Coach said Watts always takes his penalty shots to the bottom corner. With the game riding on him he was bound to do the same.”
Neil stared at him, startled and disbelieving. (…) It’d been an off-the-cuff remark amidst a lot of other information. Neil hadn’t thought Andrew was even paying attention to Wymack’s spiel.
Well, my dude, seems like someone gives more fucks than we all were starting to think. OF FUCKING COURSE. I’m still grinning my face off writing this.
And with that, they’re off, back on the bus home, and we’re letting this chapter ring out but some good ol’ Neil “Oh shit, what’s this, good feelings, get them away from me” Josten.
As he listened to them, Neil realized he was happy. It was such an unexpected and unfamiliar feeling that he lost track of the conversation for a minute. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt this included or safe. It was nice but dangerous.
Someone with a past like his, whose very survival depended on secrecy and lies, couldn’t afford to let his guard down. But as Nicky laughed and leaned closer to talk about one of Neil’s goals, Neil thought maybe he’d be okay for just one night.
:’))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Nicki out.
If you like what I do here and you want to help me continue writing, please consider buying me a coffee (or two)! Thank you so much <3

i was just thinking about cophine getting high together & then imagined modern day clexa doing the same & omg a whole headcanon is now exploding out my brain. so here’s this not-a-fic.
so clarke would have tried weed in hs & she would get high once in a while, but she was a good student & pretty popular so her parents never really saw any change. & one time jake catches her coming in late & he can totally tell she’s high & he’s just like “we’ll talk in the morning.” when he does, he doesn’t tell abby but just tells clarke not to drive high & recommends against smoking bc lungs are important. & he ends it with “i trust you kiddo. you can make your own decisions. im proud of you for being you.” bc he’s jake & he loves her so much (& also thinks marijuana should be legal & regulated).
so clarke is at university (i normally imagine them at UMD just bc Polis & TonDC are Maryland/DC references) & she’s roommates with raven, & the two of them like going to the roof of one of the campus science buildings & smoking bc sometimes the professors leave telescopes on the roof for labs. raven gets medicinal marijuana & explained that her parents knew she already smoked so they wanted her to do it legally & “the leg thing just helped expedite the process.” so they smoke pretty regularly. (eventually raven tells clarke that she was in an accident when she was with her boyfriend, finn, on his motorcycle.)
clarke meets octavia in her math class & they both hate it but numbers come easier for clarke than O so clarke essentially carries O through that class despite paying zero attention in class. O is on the track team, so she doesn’t smoke but hangs out with clarke & raven on the roof.
lexa is a sophomore but really ahead & could easily graduate early. but she’s double majoring in political science & psychology with a minor in world literature. clarke has dyslexia & while she does know various strategies to read & study well, she devotes most her energy toward her pre-med materials. that unfortunately affects the quality of her weekly papers for her english lit gen ed class. so she goes to the writing center where of course lexa works.
& clarke is pretty intimidated bc lexa is dressed for the career fair the first time she meets her & just looks like she has all her shit together. when lexa asks her what she should focus on for critiques, clarke just says “everything.” & lexa does that small smile & clarke is just like “wHAT IS THIS FEELING????”
even though lexa rips her paper apart it was fine bc clarke could watch her hands move across paper all day. one day clarke asks if she wants to go to the food court since lexa gets out at the same time. so they do & they end up talking & clarke ends up confessing she has dyslexia & lexa encourages her to go to the student disability services office so a formal letter could be sent to the professor, but clarke says how it shouldn’t be an excuse. & lexa is like super serious & respects clarke’s choice but also says, “it’s not an excuse if you do go. it’s about being honest with yourself & the professor. you’re fully capable of doing great work, & dyslexia isn’t a reflection of your intelligence, but just letting your professor know may help form a more effective curriculum.” they exchange numbers & the next day, clarke sends her a thank you text bc she went to student services & her lit professor’s office hours & they decided on bi-weekly 3pg papers instead of the weekly 2 pg papers.
then clarke eventually asks her out as they leave the writing center one night & lexa has to ask, “like a date?” & clarke mildly panics but lexa explains “i have a girlfriend.” costia, who is this really wonderful art history major & photographer back home in PA & attending Penn State, who she met through a summer internship before lexa’s first year in university. but lexa thinks they’d make good friends & clarke refuses to be a douche who broods in the “friend zone.”
lexa doesn’t go to parties, but she drinks occasionally. so clarke invites her to the roof with O & Raven & they end up drinking two giant bottles of cheap wine. when lexa admits she’s never smoked weed, it becomes raven’s mission to get lexa high, mostly bc lexa is so serious & she wants to see what she would happen. but lexa passes on the weed & is grateful bc clarke smoked & got the spins & puked off the side of the roof.
another time, raven gets a few edibles & splits them with her friends so she, O & Lincoln (OT/PT major, junior, also on track) are playing frisbee on the quad while super high & clarke is drawing & sitting bc physical exertion is so not her style, esp when stoned. & lexa gets out of class & sees clarke so she joins her. & when clarke looks up & sees lexa approaching, she gets the biggest cheesiest smile bc it’s lexa & its one of the few remaining warm days of fall so she’s in a knee-length dress & just looks stunning. she sits down & lifts up clarke’s sunglasses & laughs & asks “how high are you rn?” clarke just giggles–something she only does high–& replies “very.” & lexa just grins & pokes clarke’s cheek & says “i can tell bc your dimples. you have them the entire time bc you can’t stop smiling.” & clarke just replies “or maybe i’m just happy to see you.” & then O appears with her arms full of snacks & clarke is like “good call, O” & O is like “tf are you talking about???? this is mine.” but raven & lincoln brought munchies for clarke.
then when it’s just the two of them, lexa asks what it feels like being high. clarke’s still stoned so it’s hard but says “you can’t really know the feeling without getting high….. your stream of consciousness goes on every tangent. your thoughts take the scenic route… also your internal voice becomes really apparent, but it’s not critical or anything. things feel easy.” & lexa just concludes “you’re an anti-anti-drug ad.”
so lexa tells clarke one day she wants to try weed so clarke’s super excited & wants lexa to be comfortable & they go to the roof, just the two of them & smoke & lexa quickly learns smoking hurts her throat & lungs a lot but clarke packed ice water which helps. when clarke can tell lexa is stoned, she laughs bc her eyes are glossy & just beautiful & that small smile of hers doesn’t leave her lips. but she reassures lexa that she looks fine & isn’t obviously high.
they lie on a blanket & lexa asks clarke to hold her hand bc she feels strange & clarke just smiles & takes her hand & gives it a little squeeze. but they end up talking & laughing bc of some stupid story clarke told & even though clarke’s heard lexa’s laugh, she loves the sound of it in that moment. & she’s jus like “wow. im so in love with her” inside of course.
that night gets lexa into trouble with costia bc long distance is dumb & costia can tell lexa is falling for clarke. they break up before the second semester so lexa throws herself into work but clarke is persistent about making lexa interact with ppl outside of academics & they end up smoking on the quad one night & lexa is p sure she could kiss clarke but she knows she should tell her how she feels first & not kiss her & have clarke assume it was just bc they were high. but they hold hands even though lexa feels fine.
so they both end up super busy bc midterms but they study together in the library. clarke has a nervous habit of tapping her pen & the sound makes lexa anxious, so one day she puts her hand on top of clarke’s tapping hands & clarke apologizes but lexa removes her hand then takes clarke’s right & runs her thumb along the back. it ends up being the kind of sensory stuff the both of them needed & becomes habit.
both of them finish their midterms the same day so they hang out to celebrate which basically turns into them taking a nap in clarke’s bed & raven taking a million ways photos & taking bets from O & lincoln about how long it would take them.
but something about missing clarke on spring break spurred lexa into action so their first day back at school, they’re two of the first back on campus so they go the roof but don’t have weed & as clarke is rambling about something lexa just hugs her & clarke laughs & asks “what’s this about?” & lexa says “i missed you.” & clarke smiles & says “me too.” & then lexa kisses her & it’s grossly cute & clarke kind of sighs as they hold each other after. & blah blah they’re in love & just the grossest.
but what originally spurred this whole thing on was just me thinking “i bet lexa would get horny when high” so my brain is essentially the tag “porn with feelings.” ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
anyway. i’ve got shit to do i guess but thought i’d share.

Car Insurance Question?
"Car Insurance Question?
My fiance and I want to buy a new car - and I am the primary buyer, and he is the co-buyer. Can we just add the new car to his auto insurance and list me as a driver of the car? (My current car is not on his insurance, it's on my moms because she helped me get my current car) Or must we be married to do this? I have heard that if you're not married, then I would need to get my own separate insurance policy, but I don't know how true this is. Who thinks the health insurance waivers means that companies don't have to provide health insurance?
You'd be wrong. Care to understand why? http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/12/10/truth-about-health-care-waivers The bad news is that today mini-meds are often the only affordable option for many low-wage workers because retail and chain restaurants rarely offer their workers options beyond these plans. And because mini-meds are built around annual limits, estimates from employers and insurers indicate that beginning the phase out of annual limits this year would cause mini-med premiums to rise by more than 200 percent, forcing employers to drop coverage and sending many low-wage workers to purchase insurance on the more expensive individual insurance market, where they would get an even worse deal than what they have today. The result would be a whole new population of uninsured Americans. To ensure that we protect the coverage that these workers have today until better options are available for them in 2014, the law allows HHS, in extreme cases, to issue temporary waivers from the phase out of annual limits. There are some important facts to remember about these temporary waivers: The waivers only apply to one provision of the law  the provisions phasing out annual limits. Insurance companies and employers that receive waivers must comply with all other parts of the Affordable Care Act. The waivers last one year. Insurance companies must reapply for the waivers each year between now and 2014 when annual limits on coverage will be completely prohibited and individuals will have more affordable and better private insurance choices in the competitive Exchange markets. All employers and insurers that offer mini-med plans may apply for a waiver if they demonstrate that there will be large increases in premiums or a significant decrease in access to coverage without a waiver. You can read a list of employers and insurers that have received waivers here.""
Car accident and they got old insurance.?
I got in a car accident last November and they tried to hit me with 6 duis with no evidence. We got the FDLC results 6 MONTHS LATER, and it came up with nothing. I have no idea what they had to charge me with 6 DUIs, however... It was reduced to reckless driving. Anyways, when I got in the accident, I left in an ambulance. The police gave out the wrong car insurance (I had just got statefarm the day before.) They gave like esurance to everyone, which was the WRONG insurance. So, I ended up having to tell the hospitals etc that they gave out the wrong insurance. Then I got a call from one of the people I hit's insurance, and they queried about what insurance I had (They said the policy they were given expired in like 08.)... Part of the deal of reckless driving is that I pay restitution. My lawyer is unaware that the police gave out the wrong insurance, but he told me that there should be like nothing (insurance should cover all of it.) I just got a letter in the mail yesterday saying that I owe 2500 to some person. Is it possible that he was given the wrong insurance as well, thus me getting charged for this?""

What health insurance can I get as a low income american college student?
Hello, I am a nineteen community college student living in North San Diego, California and I live with my parents. I make less that $1,000 a month working part time and going to school full-time. I get financial aid from my school, but only for the classes, not the books. My father, the only other worker in my family, makes roughly around $32,000 a year. We barely make the rent each month and barely have enough for gas. About when I was sixteen, I was diagnosed with Gallstones and was urged to better my choice of eating. Of course as a Mexican-American, I wasnt about to give up my Carne Asada or burgers so I continued my vices which led to various, and very painful gallstones attacks over the past couple of years. Now I am no longer able to eat anything without feeling sick to my stomach. I was cut out on all junk food and have pinned myself to a grilled/boiled chicken only and greens diet. I don;t eat any red meat and make sure to have fresh made fruit/vegetables smoothies. Yet, for the past four days, Like i said i haven;t been able to pass anything. I am currenly runng every morning. My father thinks I have an ulcer. So, straight to the point, I am a low-income college student with no money left over at the end of each month and I need to go to the doctor's immediately. I am an american citizen but have no health insurance at the moment. I need surgery to remove the gallstones, but first have to go an have a checkup. I was wondering if there was anyway that i can get covered? My mother applied for medi-cal but we havent heard anything in over four months and its a LONG process. Can Anyone please help me!""

What is the average cost of replacing a water heater? Which would you choose insurance payment or heater?
My water heater needs to be replaced (electric) I have a warranty insurance that will replace it however there are a few non covered costs - the pan, the permit, some other part, it will cost me $512.00. They have given me the option to cash out which means they cut me a check and I try to figure it out on my own. Problem is the cashout amount is unknown and it will take up to two weeks for me to find out what the amount is before i can even decide - two weeks without a hot shower is HELL! But I'm not sure what to do. What would you do? Can anyone guess as to what amount they MIGHT give me? The insurance company is American Home Shield. ANY advice will help. I'm a new home owner and don't know a thing about house stuff! Thanks!""

Will paying off my car loan lower my premiums on my car insurance?
After some research on the pros and cons of paying off my car loan early, I've decided to go ahead and pay it off while I can. Despite all the research, I still don't know if doing so will help lower my insurance rates. I have to carry full coverage on my 7-yr-old car (I purchased it used) as long as the bank holds the lein. Thanks!""

I'm a 1st time driver so insurance is always stupidly High, However I was checking quotes online and they were all near enough same price ish 2200 for a 1.2 engine, however I did a quote with insure the box and it was ONLY 935.45 with Voluntary Excess at 250. I know about the 6000 miles and the box and all but this is over 1200 cheaper than any other insurer. It just seems too could to be true and normally things are, or are they? First Time Driver - Car Insurance?
I live in Western Massachusetts and will be 18 in July. I haven't gotten my permit yet, but I plan on getting it sometime in the next month to start practicing. In Massachusetts, you cannot get your license if you're under 18 and haven't taken a driving class, which I don't have the money for, so I plan on having my mom teach me everything about driving and I'm hoping to get my license when I turn 18. I do already own a car (1998 Honda Accord Coupe), so that won't be an issue. Here are my questions: 1. When I have to start paying insurance, how much (range) do you think it would be? I know that everyone says that first time drivers have to pay WAAAY more, but I don't even know how much regular drivers pay. 2. Would it be cheaper to just be added onto my parents' car insurance plan? They've already brought this idea up, but they're afraid that if I get into a serious accident that the people could go after everything they own. I don't want to be that much of a stress on them, but I really don't want to end up paying a lot. Please and thank you!""

Car Insurance Question?
My fiance and I want to buy a new car - and I am the primary buyer, and he is the co-buyer. Can we just add the new car to his auto insurance and list me as a driver of the car? (My current car is not on his insurance, it's on my moms because she helped me get my current car) Or must we be married to do this? I have heard that if you're not married, then I would need to get my own separate insurance policy, but I don't know how true this is. The dealership says that it doesn't matter, as long as the car has insurance. Do they check?
