i am in shock. I cant even believe I'm typing this right now. I just went to my locker and I someone used a marker to draw a swastika on it. I've seen antisemitism in this city, but its never happened to me. is this a hate crime? can I even get someone in trouble for this?

For years, Jewish people have said that Roger Waters is an antisemite, but our voices weren't heard. Now there's this really well-made, free short film that looks into these allegations by speaking to two Jewish former colleagues of Waters.

Please watch this.

It matters not just because of Roger Waters.

It matters that Jewish voices be listened to when we raise the alarm on antisemitism, that they don't silence us. This film highlights how an antisemite like Waters gets away with it, can override it when he's being called out on his Jew hatred by accusing Jews of being manipulative when we do that. By watching this you can better understand how to listen to Jewish people, believe us when we raise our voices again antisemitism, and be a better ally to us.

Canada might have universal healthcare and better gun laws than the U.S. but it for sure isn’t showing that it’s better for the Jews. I lived there for four years getting my bachelors degree and both my parents are still there.

Three days ago, on March 19, a big Jewish cultural event was cancelled. They used the same old excuse of “security concerns.” But it’s just another example of Canada not protecting Jews and not giving us space to celebrate our culture in film and media.

This comes shortly after Canada announced that they would no longer be selling weapons to Israel. Canada only provides 1% of Israel’s military aid so practically it doesn’t mean a lot. But symbolically this is a huge deal.

A day after the cancellation of the event, a Montreal newspaper printed an antisemitic cartoon. And not “Jews are overreaching” antisemitic, but “this could’ve been found in a German newspaper in the 1940s” antisemitic. It’s horrific that so many people had to sign off on this in order for it to be printed and it got approved.

And that’s just in the last few days.

On March 7 this was found on a bus stop sign in Toronto:

And back in November this happened at the Starbucks I worked at for almost 2 years. It is located in the middle of a community with a large Jewish population, just down the street from multiple Kosher restaurants. I messaged my previous co-workers to see if they were okay but no one messaged me or checked in on me.

And I'm sure there's so much more that I don't know of.

The Jewish community in Canada is feeling angry and disappointed for good reason. This is not okay, and the things that happened this week pushed me over the edge to make this post. I don’t know how to feel, and I’m worried about my friends and family.

For people wondering why Hogwarts Legacy (from here on "HL) is bad and why people are angry, it's not just because it's Harry Potter and JKR is a Terf. I myself was honestly misled to think people were angry because "It's Harry Potter and JKR is a Terf" because that's all I saw people talk about.

Trust me I 100% understand thinking "but just because I'm playing a Harry Potter themed game doesn't mean I'm transphobic" and legit I get that. People (probably) wouldn't have the same reaction to finding out you play Lego Harry Potter for example, but there's a reason for that.

Thing is the much much MUCH bigger problem with HL is the blatant and horrifying anti-Semitism which is a core theme of the game. Don't get me wrong, JKR being a Terf and supporting HL = supporting JKR is also a valid issue and should be brought up, but it should not overshadow the far far bigger concern which is the literal plot of the game being so deeply marinated in anti-Semitism that it cannot be separated from the game as a whole.

That's why people are comparing this game to the confederate flag, that's why people will probably distance themselves from you (and rightfully so) for playing this game. And while I wouldn't recommend anyone buy it even if the reason were simply "it's a Harry Potter game and JKR is a terf", because honestly fuck Harry Potter and fuck JKR, the blatant, unavoidable fact that supporting this game = supporting anti-Semitism means that I cannot with good will say anyone would be morally clear for playing this game, even if you donate to Trans charities, even if you didn't pay for it.

Don't play this game. Don't support this game. Don't support Harry Potter or JKR. And certainly don't support anti-Semitism.

i would really recommend looking up the antisemitism around court of the owls before you make a talon au. im not going to tell you not to make it or anything i just want to give you a heads up that theres an issue surrounding it in case you didnt know so you can make your own decision based on that

So I tried looking into this but all I could really find on the subject was a tumblr post from a few years back detailing how the court of owls plays into anti semitic troupes which I was kinda already aware of considering all secret organisations unfortunately play into that troupe thanks in large part to nazi propaganda the same way alot of conspiracy theories are also anti semitic due to how they've been used by nazis and white supremacists

And court of owls does play into the troupe - a group of rich elites that control Gotham from the shadows, that activity try to keep Gotham as shite as possible for their own profit and that steal children - but these are also just common troupes when it comes to secret organisations so it raises a good question of if people can ever use a secret shadow organisation without it being anti semitic? As a non Jewish person I really don't feel comfortable commenting but if you are Jewish and have some opinions on the topic would love to hear them

there was a 6th grader at my k-12 PRIVATE NYC school who was hate crimed yesterday by OTHER 6th graders. they called her slurs against jewish people and she said she no longer wants to go to school. the school has refused to address this. there have been recent protests in TIME SQUARE with palestinians holding up swastikas and saying they will do "whatever it takes". i am not blaming the people of palestine and palestinians in new york for this. but people are refusing to acknowledge the blatant anti semitism. a guy in my class did a fucking nazi salute today. i feel unsafe as a jew, and im in new york, i can not imagine what people in other countries are experiencing right now.
