What it feels like to be homeschooled

Another thing I think is vile about homeschooling parents is theyll always brag about the "flexibility" of homeschool. Its never for the child's benefit. I cannot tell you the amount of times we did double a day's work so we could skip a day because mommy wanted to go beanie baby hunting. I met a family in Ireland who bragged about how they rushed through their school year so they could finish early and get to Ireland ahead of the regular tourist season.

I miss when you could just pay for something once. Now you have to rent everything like ‘this computer program is $25 a month’ what happened to buying a CD and owning the software forever???

Being homeschooled + autistic + religious trauma is quite the trifecta, huh?

In Pennsylvania you are not legally required to enroll your child in school until they're 8 years old.
In Pennsylvania it's legal to homeschool your children.
In Pennsylvania it's legal for you to decide which treatment options for mental health conditions are best for you or your child.
Meanwhile my county's children and youth services is threatening to take away both of my children because I refuse to put my 5 year old son back in ABA services after they caused him to become extremely distressed and start self harming, and because I told them that I am more comfortable with my son being in a homeschool program than in a public school.
I can't help but feel really targeted and feel like there's something else going on because the only reasons that they gave me for wanting to take my children away from me and my partner is the accusation that my son is not receiving services, which was very quickly proven to be false and instead I made it clear that we are just switching case managers, we have a developmental pediatrician appointment Wednesday, and my son is on the wait list for speech and occupational therapy services after his ABA program backfired, and because I don't feel comfortable with my son being put into a public school in the same district where I was abused by a special education teacher in first grade.
How the fuck is it legal for a state organization to threaten to take someone's children away when they haven't done anything illegal or wrong?

How do deal with being homeschooling and not properly educated?
This is something I've really been angry about lately because I was also homeschooling and got a bad education. And I in uni now so I'm doing OK but I still feel like there are so many basic things I missed out on and simple things I never learnt.
I think there are one of two reactions that a person can have to this kind of abusive neglect. And don’t get it twisted, preventing your child from being educated for your own selfish interests is abuse.
Scenario #1: You get into University either on a semi-fraudulent diploma (yes, in many places that’s legal) or you somehow test in. You find yourself confused in the classroom, they’re referring back to information that you shouldn’t have missed out on. You feel resentful and helpless. Why have you been put in such an unfair position? You should probably try to fill in.
Scenario #2: You find it difficult in the classroom due to lack of foundational education. This pisses you off, as they shouldn’t be holding you back even NOW? STILL? Just as you made it out? And so you become determined with the fire of a thousand suns that you’ll never let them win again. You’re going to know MORE than you need to. And it’s going to be everything that they never wanted you to know in the first place. And you’re gonna love it.
Both scenarios are appropriate. In one, you fill in as needed and still bump into issues here and there and every time, it feels like failure. However…
I prefer Scenario 2. You dedicate time and energy into learning the information that was kept from you. You tell them go fuck yourself, I’m smarter than you’ll ever be. And when you run into something inevitably that you missed, it’s not a moment of sadness, but just another topic on the list for you to use as a tiny fuck you to your neglectful parents.
In this scenario, the fury is the best option if you make it work for you. I’m happy, I’m thriving, and I’m about to graduate from college with top honors. I wasn’t taught past fourth grade. I promise you’ll be okay.
TLDR: Your anger is just. Use it to fuel you and propel you forward in filling in your gaps. If you learn, they lose.
PS. - I’m thinking of putting together a list of resources for “homeschoolers” trying to educate themselves after/during neglect. I have a lot of experience with them and tips and tricks. Please let me know, Tumblr void, if you’d like that.

Gideon has dyslexia. (Apparently others in the duggar family does as well, but I have no memory of ever hearing anything about that?)
Instead of admitting that since neither of joy and Austin are educated teachers specializing in the type of special education their son needs, they’re going to let him see a “tutor” a few times a week and continue homeschooling him themselves. I am beyond disgusted that they would neglect their child’s education like this.

I’ve gotten asked some bizarre things as a homeschooler but my interaction today has got to be one of my favorites 😅
As I always do, I ran the track in my neighborhood and finished up about 7:50. As I went to the playground to sit on the swings and cool off, this guy in his mid-20s who’s as the pond asks, “wanna fish?” and holds up his pole. I decline and continue on.
After I’m done cooling off though and start to head for my house we had this conversation-
Fishing Dude: you ever go fishing down here?
Me: sometimes with my dad
Fishing Dude: you ever catch stuff?
Me: sometimes. Depends on the day
Fishing Dude: where down the bank do you fish?
Me: I don’t remember. It’s been a while since I’ve come
Fishing Dude: you going to school now?
Me: well I’m homeschooled, but yeah
Fishing Dude: Ahhh online college
Me: well no I’m still in high school
Fishing Dude: then how you homeschooled?
Me: well idk I get my textbooks and my laptop and I complete me lessons
Fishing Dude: ahhh do you do that because you’re anti social?
JKYAHGHAHIJFB YES I’M AN INTROVERT AND CAN BE SEMI ANTISOCIAL BUT THAT’S NOT *WHY* I HOMESCHOOL

Not to be back on my anti-homeschool bullshit again but if you think public and private school is too dangerous for girls to go to I dont get why youd have kids at all? Like I see so many women on here say "oh boys are too dangerous, teachers are too dangerous, cirriculums are too dangerous, bathrooms, and sports, and indoctrination oh my!" Im not at all denying that these problems exist, but your solution is to have a kid anyway and just... keep her locked up at home?
Maybe consider getting a fish instead you psycho.

My ex military dad has been listening to obnoxiously conservative podcasts in the morning so I'm waking up earlier than him to put on yo yo ma instead but I think he's figured me out so now we're in a game of chicken to see who can wake up earlier.

You know it really pisses me off when my parents pressure me to get more friends. Like yeah duh I want friends. But somebody kept me home all day so I never learned to socialize. 😒
