#and they are wasting good characters
Text
Why I don't like any canon ships in The good doctor? Come on Carly and Shaun are so cute together, and Melendez helping Claire during her first surgery was a very heart warming scene. The writers suck at writing romance, that is the only explanation because even Lim and Melendez were bad and they had so much potencial as a couple. Also why tf Jessica is gone? She was amazing. All my favorite characters are disappering,

even if ronance isn’t endgame, i need nancy to have an arc where she chooses her friend. in my head, the only thing that makes sense is nancy choosing robin. not even in the romantic sense (although i would die of happiness if it was), just nancy remembering her choices and not making the same mistakes she made at sixteen.
having nancy go through four seasons of chasing/grieving/fighting for her best friend, only to turn her entire character into a plot device for steve or jonathan, would be the worst possible choice the duffers could make.

what gets me about the shadow/maria dynamic is that it takes the trope of "weak helpless girl dies for a tragic plot device" and subverts it
Maria wasn't helpless in her fate. She did have a choice. Shadow would have been strong enough to protect them both (Where else could they even go? Would he need to hurt someone?) but instead she made a choice to protect Shadow.
Shadow's story isn't tragic because he failed to protect Maria and now spends the rest of his life tormented over it. Shadow's story is tragic because he is the strongest creature alive, but raw power isn't always enough, and his loving friend made a sacrifice to let him go hoping she was giving him a chance to learn compassion because she was strong!
Maria's purpose isn't that she's a weak little girl who dies. Maria's legacy is that she protects the strongest creature alive, and teaches it the strength of love.
Her character gives the moment purpose, not the other way around. Her willingness to die so he can go free, asking him to use his strength to protect the people of Earth, despite everything. It's her proof of love that gives Shadow's burden that kind of extreme weight. Shadow will live forever and with so much limitless power, would life be easy to discard without a second thought? Not Maria's. Not when she asked him to protect it. That weight will remind him, always.

sucks that we're having regressive arguments about the direction of ao3 like "should we ban some content" and not forward thinking discussions like "we should get the ability to search or exclude all ship tags with a certain character name in it"
EDIT: 0kay, new discussion!
"there are a lot of elements of ao3 that people do not know about as they are not immediately obvious, or in fact require information that is not readily available. so it's kinda douchey when someone says 'i wish ao3 had this' to then respond 'well ao3 DOES have this!' without actually bothering to tell the person how to do it."
No thanks to literally anyone who made this sort of comment. Actual thanks go to @batcavescolony for explaining it in the replies like a decent person.

Making Incorrect H:SR Quotes Until I Run Out of (hopefully) Original Ideas - Pt. 4 - Nuthin' but Boothill Edition
[Pt. 1] [Pt. 2] [Pt. 3]
#boothill#honkai star rail#hsr#hsr incorrect quotes#hsr memes#honkai star rail memes#hsr meme#honkai star rail meme#hsr textpost#hsr boothill#boothill hsr#hsr spoilers#hsr 2.2 spoilers#hmmm... don't think it's worth tagging the others in the 9th image. this ain't about them#still unsure abt how to do the alt text for these kinda posts properly but hopefully i'm improving#anyways. don't think i've ever seen heard and typed "cowboy' so many times in one day as i have while making this good lord#i did a bit of digging around and haven't Seen any of these done yet so. here's hoping that's the case!#i'm only ~3/4 of the way through the 2.2 main quest but the need to make these compelled me to put these out Now#i can already tell u that there Will be more of these for Boothill tho bc i'm crazy abt him. probably enough to make another dedicated post#but i'm gonna wait until i'm fully caught up on the plot (and will probably spoil myself for more of his character lore after that as well)#speaking of. i'm gonna go eat mac n' cheese and stay up too late playing through the rest of the main quest#i'm loving it so far. many thoughts head full abt it all but in a good way. hoping for more Boothill moments as we approach the end#he's def not the main character here but he is to Me okay. he is to me. i'm scarfing down every crumb he drops#i'm also suffering from Aventurine withdrawals out here. Argenti mentioning him was Interesting but i need More. Where Is He.#also. was Argenti intentionally not voiced or was it a game issue?? the hell was that. threw me off so hard when i couldn't hear him speak#anyways i'm getting off topic and wasting precious gaming time so i'll be takin' my leave now

The recent influx of “Jason is obviously a bad person. Look at how many people he’s killed” posts is 2x more idiotic because it runs on the same premise as “Jason is a cop symbol”. There’s an infinitely more famous example right next to him that people ignore entirely.
In the real world killing people is a felony, just as vigilantism as a whole is too. The same way Batman is a fictional character in a fake world, Jason is not part of the real world either. I think if you’re above age 10 you should’ve moved past the stage of trying to point fingers to try to determine a right vs wrong way to do illegal vigilantism in a world like the dcu while pretending it’s a perfect model of a real society lol.
Batman enjoys maiming and crippling people (bad things). Why is he working with cops and throwing drug addicts into prison after beating the tar out of them (bad things). It’s proven in the real world that that does not do anything to rehabilitate them and in fact costs the government billions of dollars and actually worsens the war on drugs (higher mortality & crime rates, and increased spread of infectious diseases). Yet since the authors constantly spoon feed you lines about how heroic he is people just eat that shit up, disregarding the fact that it might be utter horseshit irl and his morals wouldn’t make much sense either.
If ‘character doing bad thing’ is synonymous with ‘character can’t possibly be a good person’, then that should negate the idea that Batman’s biggest trait is compassion (although I think it already does for other in-story reasons lol, re: he tends to be classist and discriminatory towards people who commit petty crimes, calling them degrading names like “trash” and “bottom-feeders”. No amount of donating to charity makes you a good person if at your core you see poor/homeless people as lesser and you get a kick out of mocking them).
There’s far more evidence of Jason possessing all the good traits the authors keep begging you to believe Batman has. He patiently fed and cared for his dying mother all alone as a small baby/child. He literally fed groups of homeless people like a mother hen everyday while he himself was homeless, brain dead, and running on basic survival instincts. After finally regaining higher functioning in his brain and discovering the joker was still alive, one of the first things he cried about was the countless number of other innocent people dead at the hands of his own killer. If the only justification you have for why Jason’s a bad person is that he kills, that’s a weak and baseless argument for obvious reasons.

Everypony who wishes to hear about scott secret life episode 7 and is old enough to catch their own prey please gather under pride rock or whatever the fuck they say to call an emergency meeting these days. I need everyone to know why this episode is so unusual for him… I take back anything I have ever said about gem in my entire life that implied disinterest; Gem and her zombie apocalypse scared the SHIT out of Scott. NOBODY HAS EVER MANAGED TO DO THAT BEFORE.

Man, if Geto hadn't been written to become the opposite of Gojo, he would have been an amazing refreshment in the school. Imagine being the only one who calls the almighty Gojo-sensei by his given name. Imagine someone can keep up with the strongest sorcerer. Imagine someone can actually have an influence on Gojo.
Imagine Gojo ignoring you when you call him "an idiot," but he would attack Geto if he called him any profanities.
Their friendship was so balanced. I'm so sorry it must have gone this way.

Zane being used as a fucking battery for Unagmi to get into the real world, and him walking it off like it's nothing fills me with so much viisceral rage it's unbelievable
What the FUCK do you mean he's fine??! Did you not see him literally pass out and wake up with an immediate inhale like he was drowning or something???
You don't just walk off being used as a battery, and no amount of cartoon logic will make me think otherwise ESPECIALLY seeing also how he seemingly walked off the whole Ice Emperor shit as well (until Quest for the Lost Powers)
Like, at the very least have him go into a panicked terrified franzy because according to him it felt exactly like his Sacrifice against the Overlord
Or if you wanna go all our just have it wipe all of his damn memories and make him start as a person all over again, even then that still works better if you make it a post Ice-chapter consequence
And even those besides, you could do soooooo much with Zane and consequences and the shit he goes through...

the statements “catra was an extremely traumatized person who craved love and validation from her abusive mother and used unhealthy coping mechanisms because she wasn't taught how to deal with her own trauma” and “catra abused and tortured everyone around her and committed war crimes with no hesitation, and she did not deserve to be forgiven so easily” can and should coexist.

The Problem with King Magnifico
King Magnifico is the best part of Disney's Wish. He's got a sleek design, the most fun animation, and Chris Pine does a fantastic job hamming it up as a classic-style Disney villain.
With that said, he's a good villain, but fails to be a great one.
At first, I thought this was mainly because of all the Member Berries; as the movie goes on he increasingly starts aping past Disney villains which kind of makes him lose his unique identity. However, I've now realized that there's a deeper reason, which lies in comparison to Dreamworks' superior Wishing Star movie, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and its villains:
Tumblr media
For some reason, the writers of Wish tried to push King Magnifico into all three categories, and it just doesn't work. It is possible for a Sympathetic Villain to develop into a Serious, Scary Villain or for an Unsympathetic Villain to develop into a Serious, Scary Villain. But it is exceedingly difficult, if not downright impossible, to blend or have a transition with a Sympathetic Villain and an Unsympathetic Villain, because that creates way too much of a dissonance. This is where Magnifico was fumbled: before his turn to a Serious, Scary Villain they try to have it both ways, setting him up as sympathetic due to his backstory, seemingly genuine desire to do right by his kingdom even if the way he does it is misguided, and the love he shares with his wife, only to also have him unsympathetic by depicting him as a petty, petulant, thick-headed narcissistic douchebag. This results in confusion in his motivation for why he is doing what he does during the first half of the movie or why he turns to the forbidden magic that drives him mad with power, and also makes it unclear whether we are supposed to see his final fate as a tragedy or a case of him getting what he deserves.
It's very obvious from The Art of Wish that King Magnifico got changed in development. The earliest drafts clearly had him as a humanized villain who starts off sympathetic but goes off the deep end into irredeemable evil; his initial altruistic goals having given way to him just wanting to play God. There's no indication that the forbidden magic was originally going to have any effect on his mental state at all; the fact that he would even use it was simply meant to be his crossing of the Moral Event Horizon, showing that he would rather destroy his kingdom than let anyone or anything other than him have control over it. But the perceived need for Member Berries took a toll on the character, and thus he ended up undercooked.
...Still better cooked than anyone else in the film, though! Go see it for him, people!
