“Five Gum…”
Warnings: idk, cringe outdated pop culture references. Gender neutral terms(just wanting you so you don’t get like confused <3 )
Pairings: Cas X autistic!reader(platonic), Dean x child!reader
Summary: Castiel is hanging out with Dean’s autistic child, and they have a lot in common.
Word Count: 1,278
Tumblr media
Your dad, Dean Winchester, is out on a hunting trip with your Uncle Sammy. He left you alone with Castiel. You don’t know what Castiel is to your dad, they say they’re best friends, but the way they look at each other says more.
You didn’t mind being at the bunker with Cas though. Out of everyone, you got along with him the most. You had some sort of mutual understanding that Sam and Dean don’t get. You assumed it’s because Castiel didn’t know much about human interaction, social cues, pop culture references, and you were well, autistic. Your dad has made the joke that you and Castiel tilt your head the same way when you’re confused, and both don’t understand his sarcasm, and how even though your Dean’s kid, you’re a mini-Cas.
“So what are we doing today?” Castiel asks you.
“I know my dad is protective, but you really don’t need to babysit me, I’m 18. I am an adult,” you explain to Castiel.
“That’s not why he leaves me with you, he just doesn’t want you to get lonely.”
You nod, understanding. Today you’re probably going to do what you and Cas always do, exist next to each other while doing your own things. He’ll be reading something, you’ll be drawing something, and occasionally you two will look at each other, and ask how it’s going. It’s always worked that way.
And that is what you do today. You both go to the library together, Castiel picks out a book, you pull out your sketchbook, and you start doing what you learned is called “parallel play.” At least that’s what it’s called in kids, but you figured the term can be applied here too. You start sketching away as Castiel looks at you, narrowing his eyes.
“You wear that jacket all the time, why?” he asks.
“It brings me comfort. You wear that trench coat all the time, even indoors when you don’t need to. Why is that?” you throw the question right back at him.
“I suppose it also brings me some sense of comfort,” he concludes.
You nod, satisfied with his answer, and go back to sketching, as he goes back to his book. The only sounds filling the room are Castiel’s occasional page flipping, and your constant scribbling. This goes on for half an hour, only to be interrupted by your stomach erupting in hunger. Castiel does not say a word, as he gets up and goes to the bunker’s kitchen, and comes back with a prepackaged peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
“Oh thanks. When did we get these?” you raise an eyebrow.
“I got them the last time I went grocery shopping with your dad. He said you were having trouble eating because the foods we’ve been getting weren’t the right texture, and I remember when I was human I loved peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, you can never go wrong with them. But I know you sometimes just want ready made food, and when I saw these in the freezer section, I told Dean to get them.”
A smile comes across your face as you open the packaging and take a bite. These prepackaged peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were one of your safe foods, your other one being boxed mac and cheese. You bounce happily as you eat, something you do whenever you’re eating food you really like. And if it’s super good, you’ll kick your feet a little too.
You lick your fingers after you finish your sandwich, and sign “thank you” in ASL, something you do when you don’t feel like talking much. It’s a thing you do with everyone, you’ve taught them basic signs like “yes” or “no” or “please” or “thank you” or “food” or “water” to communicate when you don’t feel like talking.
“No problem,” Cas responds, smiling at you.
You nod and get back to your little activity while Castiel gets back to his. The silence is nice, you get to focus on you sketch, which is a picture of Castiel sitting down in his chair, reading. You occasionally glance up at him, getting the details you need, but you’re not going for realism. You have your own cartoonish art style and you’re drawing Castiel in it. Once you finish, you show him, and a big smile appears on his face as he puts down his book.
“You drew that? That’s me,” he says, and you nod. “I love it.”
You smile and start putting your art supplies away, as he goes back to reading. You clean up your space and put everything back in your room, before returning to Cas. You look over his shoulder at the book he’s reading, trying to not disturb him. He flips through the pages as he reads. But the page flipping and the silence get too much.
“Dicks out for Harambe,” you blurt out, not thinking.
Castiel once again sets his book down, this time not intending to pick it back up, as he looks up at you concerned. You didn’t think before speaking, but being on the internet you hear this phrase a lot. So you said it, and now Castiel is concerned.
“Who is Harambe and why are we exposing ourselves for him,” Castiel asks.
You think for a moment, wanting to answer him, but there’s no way to answer him without sounding stupid and insane. You take a deep breath, giggling a little at the thought of explaining “dicks out for Harambe” to Castiel.
“It’s an internet thing. This gorilla, Harambe, was killed, so we uh, expose ourselves, as you put it, to pay respects to him,” you attempt at an answer but Castiel furrows his eyebrows, getting even more confused.
“How is that paying respect?”
“Well it isn’t… it’s a joke…”
“I thought jokes were supposed to be funny,” he bluntly says.
“It is… to younger people I guess,” you shrug.
“And you said it because…?”
“I said it to fill the silence.”
Cas takes a moment to think, nodding, taking in what you just explained. He then takes his phone out and types away and you look at him, waiting for him to say or do something. He pats the seat next to him and you sit and look at his phone. It’s one of those fruit sensory videos on TikTok that you got Castiel into. Not the baby videos(well they are the baby videos) but the ones to popular music. You and Castiel watched as blueberries and strawberries bounce around the screen to Lincoln Park’s “Numb.”
“Why are we watching this?” you finally ask.
“You seemed like you needed something stimulating to watch or listen to,” Cas answers you.
“That reminds me,” you say, running to your room to grab something quick.
✰✰✰✰✰
Sam and Dean walk into the bunker, and as soon as they see everything, they just look around, confused. The ground is covered in bubble wrap, and the map table is full of Pop-it fidgets. You look up at your uncle and dad, as you and Cas run around barefoot on the bubble wrap, playing with the fidgets.
“What are you doing?” Dean asks.
You look up at him, with an innocent smile on your face.
“Five gum!” you yell at him, throwing a pop-it fidget at him, and he catches it. “Stimulate your senses!”
“I think they are making a joke, because this is a way to stimulate our feeling sense, which is something people on the spectrum often do,” Castiel explains to Dean.
“Yeah, I know what they meant, Cas,” Dean chuckles. “You two have fun while we were gone?”
You and Cas both nod.
✰✰✰✰✰
A/N sorry if this is silly, I’m autistic and Kin cas so I thought it would be fun to do Cas and Dean’s autistic kid. But autism is a spectrum! While this may be how autism is for me, it doesn’t represent everyone with autism :)

Saw @salaarfanindia's recent post, I couldn't help but notice some parallels between Destiel and Varadeva. This may be quite the stretch but please excuse me.
Varadharaja Mannar, the elder brother , quite like Dean Winchester.
Both have a younger brother(Baachi/Sam Winchester) who they've sworn to protect.
Both of them have absent fathers. Rajamannar in Varadha's case and John Winchester for Dean. Their mothers died when they were quite young leaving them to fend for themselves while looking after their brothers at the same time.
Both have a father figure in their lives who consider them as their own son, essentially being more of a father to them than their biological father.
Both of them have a best friend who's hot, brooding and doesn't talk much.Said best friend would go to hell and back for them. Castiel went to the fiery pit of Hell to rescue Dean . As he himself says, Castiel gripped Dean tight and raised him from Perdition.Similarly, Deva reaches rescues Varadha from the metaphorical Hell that Rudra and his cronies inflict up on him(Cue : Mukku pogu incident where Deva touches a live wire to return Varadha's nose ring from the bullies). And later when the ceasefire is imposed,Deva comes to stay by his side as his "army" (tbh I didn't think Varadha called him as an army... He just wanted Deva by his side after all these year
Castiel, being an Angel, defied Heaven itself ,always choosing Dean (at one point an angel tells Cas not to lose it all for one Man) in the process being cast out and losing his grace, eventually becoming human himself .Deva wouldn't make a promise to his Amma when she asks him never to set foot in Khansaar again. But Deva makes a promise to Varadha to always return whenever he calls, going as far as to say that he'd be a bait or a shark for Varadha's sake, thereby choosing Varadha. In the end, he makes the choice to choose Varadha again and again when he performs the sword ritual to honour his commitment to Varadha. He chooses to be Varadha's Salaar, leaving behind all his ambitions(if any) and the throne itself which would've made him the Shouryanga King.He gives it all up for Varadha.
Castiel, on the verge of an impending Apocalypse, tells a broken Dean that he is the one who's fated to stop the Apocalypse and Lucifer .Deva, in a prison cell, right before a crucial juncture, where the fate of Khansaar rests in Varadha's vote, tells him that it doesn't matter what others think(or vote )and that he can exercise his power to do what he thinks is right, thereby guiding Varadha .
Cas puts himself on the line for Dean over and over again (I'll hold them off, i'll hold them all off...) even when he knows there's no coming back for him.Deva puts himself on the line for Varadha at Velamgadi , pleading with Naarang to spare Varadha and take him instead.
Cas smites demons for Dean. He even went against Lucifer for Dean. Deva beheaded Naarang for Varadha.
Cas watches Dean sleep (i'll watch over you).. Deva watches Varadha sleepand calms his nightmares(I'm not even making this up).
Cas and Dean hug each other , tight hugs where either refuses to let the other go.It's their love language. Deva and Varadha also have the same love language, long tight hugs where Varadha just melts into Deva's arms, arms which cradle Varadha like they're holding a long lost treasure(which of course Varadha is).
Dean and Cas flirt a lot .
Dean to Cas (after Cas has been staring at him intensely) : Cas,not for nothing, last time someone looked at me like that, I got laid.
Cas: *is dumbfounded*
Deva and Varadha... Well
Deva to Varadha : I have many friends more good looking than you.
Varadha : *cant tell if he is offended or horny*.
Sam is tired of his brother's eyefucking with the gay angel...One of these days he'll pluck his eyeballs out if he sees them pining over each other. Baachi and Rinda are always sulky as they have to witness the woobie eyes Deva and Varadha make at each other.I mean hey...anyone would be.
Cas tells Dean "I love you"/ Deva tells Varadha " No one should touch you".
I could go on but I won't. . I know some of this is a stretch but I couldn't help but remember an old beloved tv series and a new but beloved movie together... Apologies if this sucks..

There is...one more Cas-adjacent car to discuss, but I don't quite have it all straight in my head.
LOOK! It's not the same tan sedan, but it IS interesting. (4x03 & 13x01) Isn't it? Let's ramble:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
////
Look at this cute little tan sedan that Dean drives in 4x03 In the Beginning!
This is one of his very first interactions with Cas, and our first on-screen date car drive.
They've interacted very little at this point! Previous appearances with Cas n' Dean were 1) their first meeting in the barn and 2) the very tense middle-of-the-night meeting in the dream kitchen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, this is the vehicle Dean drives throughout the episode. It's our first car ride with Earth and Heaven teaming up.
///
Dean is ghostly as he bears witness to the tragedy of Samuel Campbell's death (stabbed in the gut, just as Mary was before she burned), Deanna Campbell's death (broken neck), and John Winchester's death (broken neck).
Tumblr media
Azazel is killing all of Mary's support system to better weaken her resolve and entrap her in a deal.
Young—afraid—alone—distressed. Mary would have taken any deal, surely.
(Mary's Fate is not unique, exactly, but it's definitely got its own signature. It's an off-rhyme parallel in Supernatural. She did not, in fact, barter her soul, or go to Hell, as John and Dean will eventually do. No, she unknowingly Rumpelstiltskin'd her second child.)
Mary looks sadly over her shoulder at Dean, who was unable to help her. Then, John breathes in air with a shuddering gasp—returns to life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dean gasps, too, and Cas returns to his side. They disappear together, leaving only mysterious tan sedan in their wake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mary turns to look one last time, and we now have the setup of the scene: John—Mary—tan Cas Car (lights on)—black Dean Car.
///
Mary’s voice was so small when she asked if Azazel would revive her parents, “M-my parents, too?”
(Of course Azazel said no. Mary has to take what she will get, and she may have made a terrible mistake, but she knew enough not to barter her soul.)
So, Mary gazes at her father—the protector—lost as he failed to protect her, just as she will fail to protect Sam. (Oh, and her mother? She's dead, too. Mary's world has shrunk. And the world is so, so much scarier after your father dies. He’s supposed to be invincible.)
This failing of his child will haunt Samuel Campbell beyond the grave and entangle him in a demonic deal of his own. (Just as Cas, too, will be drawn into an Empty deal for Jack, post-resurrection.)
Tumblr media
///
"I'll tell you one person that you're not gonna save. Your Granpappy."
Deanna, very nearly victorious in her bid to go for the gun on the ground, gives herself away with a grief-stricken scream:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We've seen this ghost before. The demon comes through the door. It kills the protector. Then it seeks to kill the second line of defense, before moving onto the rest of the vulnerable family members.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
///
Now, we come to 12x23 All Along the Watchtower and 13x01 Lost and Found. And well, it hurts.
Nothing is one-to-one in Supernatural. All parallels are based in the specter of missing bonds and of lost love—whether that's a child, a comrade, a sibling, a parent, or a lover. It's a symphony of harmonizing pain. :(
Tumblr media
So, in 12x23/13x01, Cas dies. Dean and Sam are stunned speechless.
In 12x23, it's Mary who leaps into action, and Dean can only stand, a paralyzed witness to Jack's twin fate of The Lost Parents. (Jack's mom, Kelly? She dies. Dean can't save her. Jack's chosen father, Castiel? He dies, too. Dean can't save him either.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Both Deanna and Kelly die with their eyes open.)
Tumblr media
But Mary is triumphant. She is a Doomed Child fighting back. She protects Jack from Lucifer, even though she could not protect Sam from Azazel. (Echoing this, Crowley serves as an inverse: he spurned his mother's protection from Lucifer and bit off more than he could chew to further the security of his career/position. His death, surprisingly, tears Rowena in two and unfreezes her heart.)
///
But thanks to Mary's heroic efforts here, her own kids are spared this time, and Jack, too. (From here, Mary will go into another world where she never made her deal, and she will make peace with her past.)
Of course, Dean bears witness to his own off-rhyme parallel fate to Mary, The Death of the Lover, at the hands of a Luciferian figure. Cas falls at his feet, and Dean falls to his knees.
Dean is also like John. He can only watch as his loved one's sacrificial debt comes due, with no hope in sight, like how Mary's sacrifice came due--those cosmic consequences.
(And later, Jack, in a painful echo of Azazel, will resurrect The Lover but become destined to kill Mary.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Later, still in North Cove, Dean pleads with God on the landscape of his broken dreams—Washaway beach, (a cruel nod to the beach trip he will never take), a valley without people or friends in it, and a car.
Tumblr media
Like Mary, he looks over his shoulder to find a mysterious tan sedan (but its lights are off & it's enshrouded in darkness).
And there's nothing for Dean here. No miraculous resurrection. No deals that can be made. Not for Dean. Dean's happiness, and the happiness of his loved ones isn’t important enough. The universe turns a blind eye. The father doesn't care if he lives or dies, and his happiness certainly never mattered to Him.
It isn't fair.
Tumblr media
His voice shakes, and his lip trembles. "Please. Please, help us."
But God's not listening. "He doesn't give a damn."
///
And we're left with a similar setup to Mary's tragedy, another off-rhyme: we return to the lakehouse and we have...a black Dean car. A tan Cas truck, at cross positions to one another, as they were in 4x03.
But like John, Dean is now left with just Sam n' Jack, and he's ill-equipped for parentally supporting either of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
///
But Dean just keeps looking and looking and looking. Hoping.
Tumblr media
He looks like he's about to faint, actually.
(A kitchen. A dining table. An empty chair at its head.)
But this is how it goes with Cas. Dean tries to stop him from walking away, and in reality, he's powerless to stop him from going anywhere.
Having faith when miracles happen and when they don't? What good is it? It just hurts more.

Um think this is question 4 for supernatural. Deities knows.
Fuck what was I gonna ask. Fuuuuuuuccccckk.
.
.
.
Destiny!
No autocorrect. Destiel.
What do you think about Destiel?
I am, definitely, not the person to ask this of, but sure, lets goooooooo.
The Relationship through the Seasons
There are a lot of minute details that show up throughout the seasons, little looks here and there, offhand comments with deeper meanings, the wonderful queerbaiting eye-fucking, but for this, we’re going to go on both my thoughts and what the scenes can portray.
So, we start with the beginning really. Dean and Castiel have romantic subtext as a part of their interactions since Castiel’s introduction at the start of Season 4, especially when paralleling Sam's relationships with Meg (I believe at the time) with the sneaking out and the secretive nature of both. However, unlike Sam’s relationship nothing explicit happened in the audience view.
Interestingly, we do get a lot of, what I’d call ‘background’ for the relationship. In 4.14 the Siren episode, it is clear from the male siren, and Dean’s own words of Sirens being creatures who attract men by turning into “whatever floats they guys boat”, that Nick Munroe is that which is attractive to Dean. The episode does play it off by linking similarities to Sam, but the mythology behind sirens (in general, lets not try and figure out fish legs or bird bodies honestly) is inherently sexual, seen in a later scene when Nick makes the brothers fight with the promise of “whoever survives can be with me forever” which in no way is straight or platonic.
Season 4 is also where we learn a lot about angels in general. Castiel, as an angel, is “about the size of your Chrysler building” and as all angels are, “junkless”. Multiple angels in the series flip between both male and female vessels, Castiel included for a single episode, but nevertheless, Castiel often inhabits a male vessel (when an angel). With his appearance in the show, Cas is canonically a virgin, to the point of actual confusion to arousing stimuli, however, as the seasons progress, Cas gains an understanding of romantic and sexual desire; often to women (Hannah, Meg, April, kina Nora but not really).
Interestingly, as I bring it up, season 4 is somewhat the time of learning to understand who you once were and who you could possibly be.
Two lines strike out in favour of Destiel, specifically in favour of it.
"I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition"
We all know this one, and I’m probably certain it’s been analyzed to hell and back (hah puns), but from my view this opens up a reciprocity between the two, not an ideal way to start being ‘in debt’, but well, better than others. In this, of course, Castiel doesn’t mean to make it as a deal, he’s more or less stating a fact, instantly contradicting Dean’s thoughts of worthlessness and his unsaveable nature(1.16 and the interesting line “I know I’m a freak and sooner or later everyone else is going to know it too” while a shapeshifter wore Dean’s face / 3.10 in which Nightmare!Dean says “I know how dead you are inside, how worthless you feel…. Your own father didn’t care whether you lived or died, why should you?”), but these feelings are counteracted with their meeting,  ‘I am an angel of the Lord’ really is a shock to the system when really not believing in the good for the last 3 seasons.
Later in this season, however, we get the interesting line from the angel Uriel; "Castiel? Uh... he's not here. You see, he has this weakness. He likes you."
This is straight to the face, he likes you. Sure, at the time he’s more in a state of “fond of charge” probably, but for an ‘unfeeling’ angel to be ‘fond’ that… there’s a lot of oomph power there.
Season 5 is when Dean’s platonic affection for Cas shows up (And Cas’ fondness becomes more clear), notably we have the statement from Cas, “And I did it all, all of it, for you.” Now this is more about them as a whole I’d believe, but the way it is worded is in itself a love confession, is it not?  But to Dean, he’s beginning to definitely see Cas as a form of family, and not a platonic kind surely, as he makes a joke, 5.3, about two women (Thelma and Louise) kissing refering back to themselves.
By Season 6, the fondness that Cas holds for Dean can be seen in wanting to let him lead his own human life rather that get him wrapped up in heaven’s politics, which, of course, causes the whole leviathan problem later because of some strange plotline that my head refuses to remember but I do recall that happening, so there is that. We also see, once again, it’s not just the audience picking up on interactions here, as Balthazar describes Castiel to Dean as “the one in the dirty trench coat who’s in love with you.” Season 6 ends with Destiel with a very significant moment, Dean collecting the bloody trench coat that flowed towards him in the water, the only remaining piece of Castiel. Dean picks it up folds it, and keeps it. This is an interesting parallel to widows of soldiers who die in line of service and recieve the flag as an honour to their husbands' sacrifice. Dean also keeps it nearby in a multitude of different cars as we go into Season 7 until he can return the coat.
Season 7 doesn't have much Cas/Dean moments honestly, but there are still significant moments, like the returning of the coat, the amnesia Cas trusting Dean instantly, and finally, when he gets his memory back that he remembers Dean, and everything that happened. Dean's own character has shown to have changed, specifically with this scene and how he regards Cas the same as he would his brother, "If you remember, then you know you did the best you could at the time." No matter what, however, Cas is full of guilt, even saying "I deserved to die. Now, I can’t possibly fix it… So why did I even walk out of that river?" But Dean refused to give up, telling Cas that coming back was his choice to fix it. This scene is one out of many that shows that Dean will fight for Cas and their family, as that is what he considers Cas to be. Dean's never really done long term relationships, the only people that stick around long enough are firmly set into the "Family” category in his mind, out of "Enemy" and "Friend" and "Stranger". This season also introdced an interesting concept from Hester, an angel from Castiel's garrison, who tells Dean "When Castiel first laid a hand on you in Hell, he was lost!" which, if an angel falls when there is too much emotion and whatnot, just merely touching Dean managed to flood Cas with emotion and love(?), probably without any idea what had happened to him when he did so.
At the end of Season 7 we end up in Purgatory, something intrinsically important to Season 8. Through flashbacks, we see Dean searching for Cas in a literal hellscape and praying every night, and when they do find eachother, Dean’s relief and joy are clear to see, despite Cas having been trying to stay away to keep Dean safe, and then when Cas chose to stay behind in Purgatory, Dean’s memories are distorted from the even in his own distress, he believes he failed Cas. When Cas does in fact return, 8.7, Dean yells at him for staying behind, “‘Look, I don’t need to feel like hell for failing you, okay? For failing you like I’ve failed every other godforsaken thing that I care about! I don’t need it!” Everyone he cares about he fails and thus we have Dean entering the paradox of failed love; he failed Cas, meaning he cares about him (read Love if you want), but he cares for Cas, meaning he failed him. For Dean, destiny has dictated if he loves someone, if he cares, he will fail them. Which, considering the life he has led and how many people he has watched die, is actually possibly true.
By mid season 8, we get the interesting “He was my gay thing” episode, with Aaron. Of course, in the episode, the flirtation is a diversion tactic, but Dean doesn’t know this when interacting with Aaron, and in the bar, Dean acts genuinely interested (or possibly shocked, could be read both ways), but with the interesting take, Aaron looks out of his depth. It is a romantic comedy kind of flustered that Dean is taken with at the scene, as said by Ben Edlund and Phil Sgriccia who did a commentary over the scene also further saying, jokingly based on their tone, that the two could have come together, where this was a potential with the hard life that Dean had lived and the idea that ‘wow someone likes me.’ Of course, in the scene where its revealed that Dean wasn’t actually being flirted with, he’s quite flustered and seemingly affected, though he does manage to say “It was really good. You really had me there. It was very smooth” as if he had faced rejection in a way. (Which it kinda was)
8.17 shows up not long after, Castiel having been reprogramed to be able to kill Dean, however, you know what stopped him? Dean echoing back what he said in purgatory, a declaration (of love) strong enough to break through the brainwashing. I need you.
The need is repeated in Season 9's first episode prayer to Castiel, "I know you think that I’m pissed at you, OK? But I don’t care that the angels fell. Whatever you did, or didn’t do, it doesn’t matter, OK? We’ll work it out. Please, man, I need you here.” Dean later also refuses to give up Cas even to save him or his brother, something he would have never done in the past (considering Sam is family and family is everything to Dean). Of course, Season 9 is also when we get the tiktok viral video of Abbadon grabbing Dean and saying, “So obedient, and suicidally stupid. I like that too.” To which Dean responds with “Are we gonna fight or make out, cause I’m getting some mixed signals here?” (cough - bottom - cough) -- 9.6 Cas has a date, and Dean doesn't look happy about it. In fact, we get a romantic cliche “Cas, wait. I can’t let you do this.” Cas closes the door, stares up at Dean and says, “What?” Dean says, “You’re gonna wear that, on a date?”. Now, ok, not exactly romantic, but "I can't let you do this" very much is, especially when confessing love to prevent love interest from leaving/marrying someone/dating. Of course, Dean tells Cas to lose the vest. Cas takes it off. Then Dean says, “And why don’t you unbutton it.” Cas starts unbuttoning his shirt. Dean says, “Alright, that’s enough Tony Manero.” Dean grins and looks down at Cas’s chest. Which, to the younger audience, Tony Manero (the flim) is 1) deliberately provocative 2) as challenging and compelling as it is difficult to describe.
This season honestly has more Dean/Crowley than Dean/Cas, but Metatron states and hints, quite a few times, about the relationship. He specifies that Castiel’s goal was to “save Dean” but also that Cas was Dean’s “Boy Toy” (though this was the illusion of Gabriel that Metatron created) and Metatron makes many references to queer or queer coded characters such as Sherlock, the erotic poem by Muriel Rukeyser, and the 'subtext' of a story making the story work [interestingy, the last time subtext was referenced was 5.9 in which two cosplayers (one sam, one dean) came out as a gay couple]. Metatron even states that he left Cas humant because he "was hoping [Cas] would live happily ever after, but he screwed that up too.” Then, damningly almost, in 9.22, Metatron states that "after a rousing speech, his true weakness is revealed: He’s in love. With humanity.” Although, in the scene, it's clearly Dean who was just saved by Castiel, one specific aspect of humanity one may say.
Season 10 I am going over quickly as I’m probably overwriting at this point, we get the fun “Fanfiction” episode, 10.5, which strongly acknowledges the Destiel within the series “Supernatural” by Chuck Shurley. We also get Dean referring to Sam and Castiel as “the people who love me.” within the season.
Really, nothing is going to stand out in the next 4 seasons other than basically strengthening the bonds and becoming fathers together, with their weirdly shaped family that we love. But, the fact that Castiel loves Dean is repeatedly affirmed in canon, not just through inference, but direct, unequivocal statements.
But, then we get Season 15, episode 18 in specific. You can all tell where I’m going with this.
To save the life of Dean one last time, Castiel sacrifices his own to the Shadow. It was a promise for when Cas exerienced a moment of true happiness the Shadow would come, but he figured it out in that moment. He confesses, tells dean that everything Dean has done has been for love, that Dean is the most selfless, loving human he will ever know, that he changed him, and goodbye. He tells him I love you, tears streaming down his face. Many watch Dean's confusion, the anguish, the shock. It's too late for Dean to react, but Cas has saved him, saved the man he loved. The ending scene is Dean ignoring a phone call from Sam as he sobs.

Here’s where I’m going to pause and take a step back. Jensen Ackles doesn’t support the ship, however he did state that at the time of Cas’ confession he played Dean’s character open to interpretation as Dean ‘was in shock’, of course, the Latin American Dub has Dean saying he loves Cas back. But in the English, this doesn’t happen. Jensen has also stated that most of Dean's reaction in that scene was removed in editing and with it more ambiguity is given to the situation. Now, Jensen has repeatedly said at conventions that he never played Dean as bi or gay, however, Jensen also says in an interview with TV Week that Dean may have been a prostitute/hooker for a time [Q: Are the guys still mainly living on stolen credit cards and so forth? A: For the most part, yeah. Dean’s a bit of a pool shark and also a bit of a gambler. It doesn’t really show it all the time, but it’s definitely implied that there are poker games and pool matches that they can win some money on. And who knows? Dean’s a promiscuous kind of guy. Who knows how he drums up the funds that they use?]
Respecting Jensen’s thoughts on this, my take in understanding how this may be played out could be that,  Castiel loves Dean, and supposedly, by the amount of timesit's been referenced to his face, Dean knows it as well, but at the same time there are plenty of different types of love. What Dean may look on as Stroge or Pragma (Familiar and Enduring), Castial may see as Philia and Eros (Affectionate and Romantic).
Personally
I think the ship works for the characters. There is a distinct queer coding that is applied through many of their scenes, and especially to Dean’s character and his (bi)sexuality. I’ve read plenty of fics, seen plenty of edits, and yeah, tis a good pairing, possibly the best one that Dean could work with.
Castiel – “I always wondered, ever since I took that burden, that curse, I wondered what it could be? What my true happiness could even look like. I never found an answer because the one thing I want, it's something I know I can't have. But I think I know... I think I know now. Happiness isn't in the having, it's in just being. It's in just saying it.”
Dean – “What are you talking about, man?”
Castiel – “I know. I know how you see yourself, Dean. You see yourself the same way our enemies see you. You're destructive, and you're angry, and you're broken. You're “daddy's blunt instrument.” And you think that hate and anger, that's... That's what drives you, that's who you are. It's not. And everyone who knows you see it. Everything you have ever done, the good and the bad, you have done for love. You raised your little brother for love. You fought for this whole world for love. That is who you are. You're the most caring man on Earth. You are the most selfless, loving human being I will ever know. You know, ever since we met, ever since I pulled you out of Hell, knowing you has changed me. Because you cared, I cared. I cared about you. I cared about Sam, I cared about Jack, I cared about the whole world because of you. You changed me, Dean.”
Dean – “Why does this sound like a goodbye?”
Castiel – “Because it is. I love you.”
Dean – “Don't do this, Cas.”
Castiel – “Goodbye, Dean.”

for the deep fic writer asks: 2, 10, 16 & 19
2. what’s a fic that took you to an emotional/dark/hard place?
Oh god. I'm gonna have to go back quite a few years but I wrote two fics that I have a hard time revisiting. I really need to edit one, though, because I made a creative decision that didn't work.
A Deafening Distance is a Supernatural fic where Dean said yes to Michael, and Sam and Cas are left to pick up the pieces. There is a mini cast of OCs and I thought it would be funny to name the OCs after the actors but some people found it disorienting. I keep meaning to change that but I haven't been able to visit this fic and I posted it in 2010.
Wishing Well was a Cap Kink Meme fill back when kink memes were a huge thing on LJ. It's a CATFA fic and the prompt was "kissing lessons" and it's from Howard Stark's POV and I kept the ending the same as the movie so it was... it's really sad? But it's a good kind of sad, if that makes sense.
P.S. The ficmix I made for this fic still wrecks me.
10. how has writing positively impacted your mental health or overall mood?
All I can say is, if I can't write I'll go fucking mad. My brain is always on its bullshit. I maybe spent late elementary through early middle school obsessing over 1 ginormous crossover fic that I wrote in my head; it had its own soundtrack and score and the character voices I swear were on point and it was all I could think about. I still remember it all these years later because I never wrote it down. It seared itself in my head. Being able to write is like venting a pressure cooker and keeps me sane and focused.
16. Do you re-read old fics? Is there a time in your writing you won’t go back to?
I will not touch anything I wrote and posted to FFN. I refuse. But I'll re-read old fics I posted to AO3. I spent hours tracking down all my old Transformers fics in my old external HDDs to read and feel sad over the stories I wanted to tell but couldn't. I'll revisit the massive Tronfic that imo changed my life forever and is still my personal standard that I am always reaching for with my newer fics. I'll also click the back button on some of my fics because those stories just don't cut it for me anymore. It's nice to look back on your older work to see what held up, what didn't, what trends you kept, and how much you changed since you posted those fics.
19. If you could write an ideal fic, what would it include?
My ideal fic would have a deliciously slow burn romance against a plotty backdrop steeped in political conflicts and sociopolitical change/revolution. I think that's one of the reasons why I'm still going so hard and heavy for dinluke; I get so insane just thinking about the parallels between Din and Luke and their respective cultures/heritages, the play on "enemies to lovers" but on a generational scale where Din heard stories, where Mandalorian armor and weapons are designed to fight the Jedi, and Luke? Knows not enough because he has nothing but the teachings of two Jedi ghosts, whatever he can scavenge and salvage of the Jedi Order, stories from people who still remember the Jedi. Din is of an endangered people and Luke is of a nearly extinct people, and while Din tripped and fell into being the wielder of the Darksaber, Luke chose to try to reclaim and rebuild the Order. And they only crossed paths because Din sacrificed his covert for a Jedi youngling and went through hell to reunite Grogu with his kind. It's insane. They're insane. They drive me insane.
I am also so endlessly fascinated by this post-war galaxy, the rippling consequences of the Empire's downfall, the generational conflict between people who grew up while the Empire was in power vs. people who remembered the last years of the Galactic Republic, the struggles of a New Republic building on the ashes of the Empire and memories of the Galatic Republic, all the cartels and crime syndicates/organizations rushing in to get theirs, the displaced peoples either trying to come home or make a place for themselves in a turbulent galaxy, etc, etc, etc.
Uh. Yeah. I'm that kind of fic writer/fandom person.
Fuck that was a really long answer, oops.
Play ask games, win ask prizes.

Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2023 Day 332
Proverbs 17:3/Fugitive of the Judoon
“Proverbs 17:3”
Plot Description: when several campers meet a grisly fate in Colorado, Sam and Dean discover a werewolf presence—and have an unexpected run-in with an old foe
Would I Survive the First Five Minutes??: if the everything about camping didn’t turn me off already, this show has me completely sworn off of it
Omg girl, do not leave that tent wtf
Awwww Sam’s been trying to get in touch with Cas again
Love when they get small opportunities to just be shitty siblings
I hate all these nightmares Sam is having about being Lucifer’s vessel and killing Dean
Aww Dean’s denial of his own aging….is actually super sad considering he’s gonna die fr this season
Dean’s so comforting and genuine rn with this girl who survived the attack. What’s goin on with him? He’s not usually that immediately open with those impacted by monster attacks unless they’re in immediate danger
(You know who I miss? The twin witches.)
Speaking of shitty siblings. These werewolf brothers are terrible (Josh more than Andy but neither are particularly GOOD)
I know this show does obvious parallels within an inch of its life but the scene of Dean talking to the girl about if things would be better or easier if everything was planned out for you was so 🙄
I’ve complained about it before so many times, but the “cut away from the person holding the gun only to find they didn’t shoot who you thought they shot” is way too overdone. It’s no longer a surprise when the Winchesters don’t get shot
Oh no. Andyyyyy you didn’t have to kill yourself, too
Hello??? I knew something was sus about Ashley but I thought it was a more Alex situation
Of all foes to bring back, Lilith? I guess I was just underwhelmed with her last time, so hopefully she gets something good this time around…but I’m not THAT hopeful
Dean’s little apologetic nod at her that she’s not going to seduce him
So, Chuck sent her there to get his gun back?
TWO nightmares in one episode? I guess at least in this one it’s Demon Dean. Mark of Cain Dean
I KNEW that conversation was bad…but it was Chuck’s writing bad
He wanted the gun destroyed? For what??
The weird commentary of Dean asking if they just keep running in Chuck’s maze forever or until they get boring and he ends them IN THE LAST SEASON which is ten seasons AFTER it was initially supposed to end
The “how are we supposed to fight God, Sam?” I was really waiting for Sam to say “together,” but thankfully he didn’t
(How has JPad’s voice only altered slightly in those 15 years and Jensen’s…Jensen doesn’t even sound like the same person)
“Fugitive of the Judoon”
Plot Description: the Doctor and friends race toward 21st century Gloucester—to stand in the way of trigger-happy space police the Judoon. But who or what are the Judoon investigating?
Oh…oh wait, I’d this the Doctor? The future Doctor??
Why does this barista have a dossier on this woman’s boyfriend??
I know the Doctor’s always kept their companions at an arm’s length when it comes to Gallifrey but 13 takes it to a new level. But part of that is my constant complaint about how she doesn’t really bond with them at all individually
I have a few theories for who the Judoon are looking for: boyfriend (unlikely but I’ve seen weirder twists), the woman I’m convinced is the future Doctor, and the Master (because 13 is looking for him)
A platoon of Judoon near the moon…sometimes the dumbest jokes are the funniest
I know he’s an old white man but does Graham really think the police don’t kill??? Please…
I’m still convinced it’s her even though she scans human
This barista needs to back off. You don’t get to write “you can do better” on a cake ordered and paid for by the boyfriend of the woman you’re infatuated with
Oh, he’s not gonna be a problem anymore. Not that it’s right, but he picked a fight with the Judoon and they killed him for it
Aw, Ryan 😣 he tried. Here’s a star, kiddo ⭐️
Making up Earth rules on the spot to enforce against the Judoon
Ok but where IS Graham?? Omg, Captain Jack??? (Though I’ve kind of soured on him since John Barrowman’s comments on not being in the 60th specials, like he was OWED it)
Is the boyfriend like Martha in the family of blood episodes?? He’s gotta keep her safe while her memories are sealed away?
I don’t like that Jack assumed Graham was the Doctor, however I’d like it even less if he’d greeted 13 with that kiss. Also don’t like him saying “this I gotta see!” Upon hearing the Doctor is a woman now
Has he always been this sleazy?? Have I been making excuses for him this whole time??
Tumblr media
Who is SHE?? Ok. Is she the Master from the future?? The way she called boyfriend “faithful companion”
The instinct future Doctor has in close combat is kinda hot
Boyfriend wasn’t boyfriend, he was husband (before the other woman killed him)
“Beware the long (?) Cybermen”?? Or was it lone? Oh we’re trying for an overarching plot
Of all the lighthouses one could live and grow up in, this one’s probably the best and most cozy
THERE IT ISSSS!! She’s got her memories back
Oooooo!! I like her TARDIS interior
Ooo!! And these glasses are fantastic
Why must the girls fight?? And being so petty about it.
So, the future Doctor (or au Doctor maybe??) had a job and the woman who killed her companion was her boss, and this is just messy
Why are we doing a best of tour here too?? I just realized

HIGHLIGHT TRANSLATION OF THE SPANISH DUB ACTOR GUILLERMO ROJAS
Guillermo Rojas - Spanish Dubbing actor for Dean since season 12 until 15x18 (he contracted Covid and was unable to record 15x19 or 15x20 - he has yet to record those)
INTERVIEWER: “Memo (nickname for Guillermo), I am not sure if you knew, but you broke the internet”
MEMO: “Yes, a lot of people sought me out when this happened. I am so sorry I wasn’t able to answer at length all of your questions, but I was right in the middle of dealing with Covid. I couldn’t speak without feeling like I was drowning. Right now I am going to (voice) therapy. While it is not too dreary, there are 2 continued effects, so I couldn’t answer everyone who contacted me through various ways - through FB, instagram and an old youtube channel that I haven’t used in years - with respect to the situation that occurred between Dean and his friend (Cas).
MEMO: “We try to follow (our lines) in what we see of the acting. Remember that dubbing is something where we must make a parallel alignment in our own language. Under the guidelines given to us by the client, we try to expand on all possibilities and all the alignments and - as actors - they permit us to give 100% of ourselves. So there isn’t a limit per se, so long as you don’t go off track (from what was requested from the client)”
INTERVIEWER: “What were the guidelines for the line that broke the internet”
MEMO: “It’s curious because neither the director nor us the actors knew much about the tendency that existed. Because we didn’t have much previous information that suggested that something like this would happen. To be honest when we recorded it, we were asking wait what’s happening? I mean we did it, but no one knew this was coming neither in the production studio nor amongst the actors.”
INTERVIEWER “I need to ask for a clarification here. I mean we are talking about the love declaration Cas made to Dean after 12 years of intense eye-contact. But the big question is Dean’s answer. Because EVERYONE heard in your voice that clear “And I you, Cas”
MEMO “And I you, yes.”
INTERVIEWER “Where does that “And I you” come from? Was it you? What happened there?”
“The adaptation came entirely from my director (Adrian Fogarty). He adapted it and gave us our acting guidelines, and I performed accordingly - I gave what he asked of me. We all loved it. We never saw it coming so overtly.... If you remember across all seasons, we rarely see Dean get involved with any women. It just didn’t happen, unlike his brother. He just never got involved. It wasn’t his thing, especially because we have his brother to compare him to. We saw (Sam) in a relationship in the past 2 seasons with Eileen which was a very intense relationship, and very painful in the end. Dean never had to suffer through that. They tied Dean’s pain to the loss of his mother since he lost her more than once.”
FB question: “So It wasn’t a rogue translator, it was a rogue director”
MEMO: “Look, Fogarty has some really intense abilities and one of them is to adapt the dialogue. When you see him translate a script, when he has the time to do it - even when he is not the one directing - and he leaves it in Spanish. The dialogue said, if I remember correctly, “me too” or something like that and then we switched it to “and I you” due to effects of lip movement, rhythm, etc... We don’t all have the ability that Fogarty has, that speed which he has, to think and translate immediately. We are a team and we work together, and pool our collective abilities, and of course Fogarty does his part. You need a Fogarty in every company.”
(The interviewer mentioned that her cat hates Sam Winchester and loves dubbed Dean’s voice).
INTERVIEWER “Do you know what Dean said in the original script before Fogarty got his hands on it?”
“Yes, of course. It made allusions to that. (Fogarty) made the right translation. It said and so do I or me too or something like that. It said it in the (original) script.”
INTERVIEWER: “When you heard the english version while you recorded yours, did you hear Dean say I love you too?”
MEMO: “No. If I would have, I would have taken the earphone out and gone what the fuck? *laughs*”
INTERVIEWER: “What was your favorite episode to film?”
MEMO: “With my short-term memory, I would say this last one (15x18), because it says so much. In one scene, it says it all. It was impressive, and so beautiful. I never saw it coming.”
Interviewer “Well you have broken tumblr again.”
MEMO: “Okay *Laughs*. Well, that’s good. Thank you very much.”
MEMO: “I think it’s clear to everyone that the fact that he (fogarty?) broke the internet, with this information was a surprise for everyone. Absolutely everyone. Because we all say that if someone wants to be a “real man” we have to be like Dean. In fact it’s something very beautiful for me because it has nothing to do with gender and everything to do with feelings. It was a play by the writers that was marvelous. You didn’t see it coming, but damn do you like it.”
MEMO: “Nothing was left out of the translation... No I was not called to re-record the “and I you”. I have not been asked to remake the dubbing. My director perfectly understood the texture of the text.”
INTERVIEWER “Do you know if Supernatural has a quality review for the dubbing through Warner Bros?”
MEMO: “I would be lying to you if I said yes, but I have been working for WB (LatAM) for many years as both an actor and director. And there is some specific material where they do have “filters”, but with something like supernatural I doubt it. I would assume the one left in charge of all decisions was our director (Fogarty).”
INTERVIEWER “Have you been interpreting Dean as in love with Castiel this entire time or was it a surprise for you?”
MEMO: “No, never, it was a surprise. In fact, to be entirely honest, to my closest friends - of the same gender - I do use the phrase “te amo”. I don’t have any issues with that. So I actually thought it went that way - but then I found out it was romantic.”
INTERVIEWER: “Guillermo, what is your opinion, of destiel now that you know the nature of their relationship.”
“Well it was a revelation for everyone - including me. I love how they handled it because we didn’t see it coming. And I think, of our understanding of the character’s traits and psychology, we know that if someone knows how to repress their feelings, it’s Dean Winchester. *laughs*”
INTERVIEWER: “What would you say to Cas if he came back from the empty?”
MEMO: “He came back?! (he hasn’t seen 15x19 or x20)
INTERVIEWER: “No I am saying what would he say IF he did”
MEMO: “Oh, okay. I was under the assumption that I said I loved him so long as he wasn’t planning on coming back! *laughs* Well if he returns I guess I would say “Hello, Cas”.
INTERVIEWER: *Tells MEMO about the not for nothing cas but the last person who looked at me like that I got laid”
MEMO: OKAAAAY *laughs* That was too much. *laughs*
INTERVIEWER: Would you be this fandom’s Godfather?
MEMO: But of course *smiles* This was a big thing, from what I see.
INTERVIEWER: “What message would you give to the fans who are descovering the spanish dub?”
“first, thanks a lot of being part of the mexican dubbing. We do this job with all the heart and all the passion that we have. And I think I speak for all involved in this industry. We are glad to note that there are so many people from other countries that are watching these new projects in another language. So I have no words but thanks a lot.”
INTERVIWER: “What would be your ideal ending for Dean Winchester”
MEMO “I think, for all of them, they have sacrificed their lives and that of their loved ones for the safety and well being of everyone else. I think if anyone deserves to be well, happy, and calm, at least it’s those three (Sam, Cas, and Dean).”
INTERVIEWER: “What about jack?”
MEMO “Jack did attach himself to them, but I think he could find happiness in another nest.” *laughs*

- 11x15: Dean getting kinda dark when he talks about what he’s willing to do to save Cas and he prioritizes saving Cas over bearing Amara.

- 14x14: Cas is the only Dean will let talk to him about Michael and be honest about how Dean feels
- 14x14: “No, it’s on us.”
- 14x14: Cas’s voice breaking when he talks about the possibility of Dean dying one day.
- 14x18: The pure self loathing in Cas’s eyes when he feels like he failed Dean by not telling him about Jack’s soul.
- 15x2: “You asked ‘what about all of this is real?’ We are.” THE MOST ROMANTIC LINE EVER. (Plus later Eileen and Sam have the same conversation but they get to kiss because homophobia)
- 15x9- 20:00 Dean said that they lost everyone they cared about, then added Cas specifically. Then he says “I had to bury him” not “we”
- 15x9- 23:00 Dean cries when he can’t find Cas. Then he prays to him and apologizes for letting him go. He falls to his knees praying to him and fully crying
- 15x12: “I created the world.” *shows Destiel*
- 15x15: This time when Dean sees Cas leaving the bunker, he stops him. (In reference to Cas saying “you didn’t stop me” when Dean got mad at him for leaving)
- 15x16: This is the the only version of Cas that rebelled for Dean. This universe is literally being saved repeatedly because of Cas’s love for Dean
- 15x18: CAS CONFESSES HIS LOVE TO DEAN then goes to mega hell for being gay
Anyway, Cas loves Dean and Dean LOVES HIM BACK, OKAY?!?!? Feel free to add more

So I know everyone has already dissected this scene to its core, but it’s taken me a good 48 hours to digest this and I just needed to get it out.
I’m an aspiring actor, I’ve been training for a long time, with a lot of amazing teachers. I’ve watched a lot of shows and shipped a lot of couples. Some of them beautiful and canon, others, well, let’s just say waiting 22 years and counting for acknowledgement, closure, anything, it’s a damn challenge. I’ve seen a hell of a lot of will-they-wont-they’s, baiting, purposeful ignorance, deliberate fake outs, zero explanations, storylines that basically caused canon disintegration, the works.
In saying that, Dean and Cas were right up there on the list with the other “impossibles” because honestly, I didn’t think the writers would have the guts to do it, but I am so f*cking proud they did. It’s safe to say I’ve watched the scene a good hundred+ times already.
I’ve seen a lot of “controversy” around Dean’s reaction/Jensen’s acting choices and whether or not Dean reciprocates Cas’ feelings, and obviously, I needed to add my own views to the mix.
Just work with me for a minute here.
Tumblr media
Dean Winchester is an emotionally repressed trainwreck, and ironically enough, the one that is so full of emotion it hurts to watch. When Cas first starts his speech, he’s confused, really confused because why on earth would Cas start off on a rant now? Billie’s waiting to kill them, he just said he knew something that was more powerful than she was, something that could save them. That’s where he thought this speech was going.
The confusion turns to realisation that it’s a goodbye when Cas starts telling him how incredible he is, how his entire essence is love. Go back and watch the scene again, when Cas says “you’re the most caring man on Earth”, you physically see Dean look down, his eyes searching, he’s actively trying to make sense of what’s happening, he knows what’s coming and you can see him coming to terms with the shock of the words being said to him. He then looks directly at Cas. That look, that was pure shock.
Also, notice how he doesn’t stop Cas from talking? He doesn’t interject, make a joke, doesn’t talk about how there is no time for this now, they’ve got to at least try and stop Billie. He. says. nothing. He listens, he listens like I’ve never seen Dean listen before. Because it’s sinking in now.
When Cas really starts crying, when he says “you changed me, Dean”, you can actually see the pain in Dean’s eyes. He’s no longer in control of his emotions, he’s crying too. He’s never seen Cas like this, so raw, and vulnerable and human. This is the hardest, most emotional conversation they’ve both ever had. They are talking about the one thing that everybody knows, but is never addressed. When it wasn’t talked about, they could deny it, live in the lie. Once it’s said aloud, it’s real and they can’t turn back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This above series of interactions is the part that kills me the most. The moment Cas says “because it is”, that’s the exact moment of realisation. Look at that last GIF, really look. He’s just worked it out, that he is Cas’ true happiness. He knows what’s coming before Cas even says it. Go back and watch the scene again, they pulled that off so well, the way the music swells at this exact moment. Jensen is giving us everything here, you can see what’s happening in his head - he is Cas’ happiness. He is the one thing on Earth Cas wants and thinks he can’t have. He is the reason Cas is about to die. He knows what Cas is about to say and he’s not sure he’s ready to hear it, not now, not like this. It’s almost a silent plea not to say it, because he knows. Of course he knows. It’s like he can’t quite believe Cas is really, after all this time, finally going to say it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And because obviously Jensen decided that that wasn’t enough to break us, the loaded reaction when Cas says “I love you” has me nothing but convinced that it’s reciprocated. Because Dean knows. He’s always known. Those tears, that head tilt, that gulp. He’s so genuinely confused that they’re really having this conversation. It’s like he can’t quite believe that this is the reality before him because he’s been living in that denial, in that self-loathing and unlovable layer he believes to be true. He’s been under the ‘what if... but it could never be’ umbrella for so long.
What also makes this real is that there isn’t anyone else around this time. When “I love you’s” have been said before, they have always been able to deflect it, with other people or other words. Now it’s just the two of them. No deflecting, no running away. Dean is forced to hear it, to absorb it, to realise it’s for nobody else but him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I don’t know if you guys felt this, but when Dean says “Don’t do this, Cas”, he wasn’t just referring to Cas sacrificing himself to the Empty, he’s telling Cas that he can’t just say this, not now, knowing he’s going to die, knowing that Dean won’t get a chance to think, to process, to say what he needs too. I keep staring at that GIF above, Dean is breaking down, I’m almost convinced that Jensen was using an “I love you too, please just stop this” inner monologue for this bit. Look at the way he’s looking at Cas before he realises the Empty has started materialising and turns around. That’s a look of pure heartbreak. Trust me when I tell you, it’s really hard to keep those inner thoughts inside if you’re so in the moment - actually, don’t just take my word for it, read any acting book, ask any actor, it’s so hard to keep that in and sometimes you don’t, and sometimes you do - it’s in both the resistance and the letting go that the gold happens. This my friends, is gold.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did anyone else hear “Cas, I-”, well, regardless of whether or not it was an “I” or a very sharp breath, the outcome is the same. Dean’s gone into immediate panic mode. The Empty at one end and Billie at the other, and all poor Dean wants to do is gather his thoughts on not what to say but how to say it. I don’t think he comprehended just how little time he had, he was so focused on what was being said that the reality of the situation caught him completely off guard.
Also, I know this post was about dissecting Dean’s reaction, but can we sidebar a minute to talk about Cas as he pushes Dean out of the way? He’s sobbing, he’s fully crying. That hit me really hard, I’ve never seen Cas cry like that, I’ve never seen Misha get to play that level of emotion before and it was the most heartbreaking thing to watch since The Doctor and Rose and Buffy and Spike, to which by the way, I find many parallels between those couples and this scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of crying, that brings me to this: Dean slumped on the floor, ignoring a call from Sam, sobbing his heart out knowing he’s lost everything. Dean-I’m-emotionally-unavailable-Winchester is sobbing. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t recall ever seeing Dean cry like this before either, the sobbing was so evident and piercing in that silence. The look around the room, the burying of his head in his hands, that is a classic writers romantic love trope if I’ve ever seen it, they really pulled out all the stops with this one.
So, to summarise, I think Jensen’s choices and Dean’s reactions were absolutely and utterly perfect. They both did it so well that it didn’t break from character that these two emotionally distant and repressed men are in love and finally voicing it. Jensen barely said two words and still managed to cause mass coronary’s across the fandom. That my friends is what you call a brilliant actor. I bow down to the talents of these two amazing human beings.
Before I leave this novel, I have to say there are now a few things I’m going to need from the powers that be to not screw this up, help me manifest this:
1. Dean gets to reciprocate his feelings to Cas in person. So, I’m gonna need Cas back and a very emotional Dean.
2. Dean to be actively dealing with heartbreak in the next episode (unless they decided to bring Cas back that soon, which I wouldn’t put past them at this point).
3. Sam to confront Dean about his feelings for Cas, because out of everyone, he’d be the one to hit Dean with the truth of his fears. Sam knows. Sam is supportive. Sam sees it all.
4. I’m gonna need some physical affection, cause after 12 years of nonsense, we damn well deserve it. A hug, and not just any old reunion hug, a proper, this is different now hug. A kiss because hello, in love out loud now. Forehead touching, handholding, really gonna need the works here.
5. A happy ending for the two of them, one way or another. We’ve never had one, it’s time.
Okay, have at it now, let’s speak these into existence please.
Note: GIFs are not mine, I did not make them, credit to owners who I’m not sure of, but they’re beautiful, thanks for making them. EDIT: I’ve just been informed that these gorgeous gifs belong to @michaeldean and @inacatastrophicmind!

Some of my personal Emma headcanons (because I started daydreaming about her and got obsessed):
I do really love the idea of Dean finding her in purgatory between seasons 7 and 8. I think it would take them a while to trust each other, but the thing is that the stakes are different now - Dean doesn't know for sure if she really would have gone through with killing him if Sam hadn't shot her, and maybe even Emma doesn't know, but suddenly it doesn't matter anymore because it's all about survival. So they kind of form an alliance and start to form this tentative bond as they find out more about each other and just chat ect.
As they're preparing to return to the real world, that's when things get sticky. Because of course Dean wants to take Emma with him, but there's this unspoken tension now because can he really trust her? What if the amazons get hold of her again and want to take her back and for her to finish her task of killing her father? Of course Dean wants to trust her and thinks that he probably can, but maybe there's a conversation where either Benny or Cas are more doubtful about it, and Emma overhears and gets upset. Because she knows she was born to be a monster but she's never really had a choice or any agency of her own, and now suddenly for the first time she's going to have to decide whose side she's on. In the end of course she does choose Dean because by that point she's got to know him and it's obvious that he does care about her
Fun little headcanon: I like the idea that there's a certain food or drink she's obsessed with, because it's the first thing she ever has when she's brought back. Maybe Dean takes her to McDonalds and she decides that their caramel milkshakes are the best drink ever invented (because it's literally one of the first things she's ever had) and after that she asks for them every chance she gets
Also she comes back with a bunch of obscure pop culture references because of course Dean's been telling her loads of random trivia while they were in purgatory and also stories that are actually the plots of popular movies to keep her entertained. She's never encountered any of them for herself but she's super invested in them accepts Dean's version of all of them as canon
I like the idea of her being really distrustful and resentful of Sam at first - because he did kill her. Maybe that adds to the tension of Dean being mad about Sam not looking for him in purgatory - because now he's got this kid who Sam literally killed, and maybe he keeps her hidden from Sam at first. There's the way Dean's almost been like a parent to Sam his whole life, but now he's got an actual daughter who he almost feels like he has to protect from him.
Then there's some kind of Big Event that happens that forces the two of them to sort out their differences. Maybe Emma's amazonian family do try to take her back and she thinks a compromise to prove herself to them is to kill Sam instead of Dean - only she changes her mind at the last minute because it's not who she wants to be, and Sam has to save her from them and that's when they finally sort things out between them
I think the first real friend she ends up making is Alex, once she goes to live with Jody. Because neither of them have had proper childhoods, both of them were raised by monsters and forced to break out of that, and finally Emma's got someone her own age (kind of) who really understands her and who she can talk about things like that with. They text each other all the time and have a bunch of inside jokes that completely baffle both Dean and Jody
I also love the idea of Emma being either gay or asexual - crucially, she's Not Into Men. I just think that would be so interesting - because her mother's side of the family's entire existence depends on seducing and killing human men, and so from the start she's wired to break that abusive chain by default. Breaking away from that side of the family is a choice she makes, but she was always different from them, really. That would also make her kind of a Cas parallel, which I just think is really fun!
Also she meets Cas in purgatory and she's, like, completely enthralled by the fact that he's an actual angel. She wants to learn all these things about his true form, and his wings, and what it's like in heaven, and how to speak enochian... because she's technically still young she's naturally really curious and bombards him with questions that Dean and Sam had never even considered. Cas of course takes to her right away, because that's Dean's daughter! How could he not? He keeps mentioning little ways that he thinks that Emma takes after Dean to them - sometimes they think he might be reaching slightly, but they enjoy hearing about them anyway
She's really useful to have on hunts because she was born with all these impressive fighting skills. She'll do anything to defend Dean, Cas or Sam but sometimes they have to warn her off if she gets too aggressive with someone who's just giving them a hard time. Dean tries to explain that they don't kill people, only monsters, but of course that just confuses and upsets her so he's forced to properly confront what that really means

"you couldve gotten him to sleep w you if you could convince it was his obligation as a man" ok this would not be hard to do AT ALL though is the thing. cas being visibly lonely and possibly weirdly horny and obviously into dean and then saying that if he was not around dean all the time, it'd be way easier to get laid would probably do it.
also stream the girlfriend experience by rageprufrock where cas complains about gettting boners like once and dean is like god ok i guess i'll teach you how to jerk off (fair warning sam characterisation in this sucks a little though)
re: this post.
i love the girlfriend experience! but no literally actually like the little posting spree i went on this morning about cas/lisa parallels was specifically inspired by a train of thought related to this. like. i was thinking about on labor by a_good_soldier + six hundred sundays by sobsicles (some specific relevant excerpts) + this vibe and i started thinking about like. okay a hypothetical post confession fic where cas is resurrected and jack returns him to dean and cas is like hm. well, fuck. now that dean knows about my feelings, there are two possible reactions he could have:
one: he could become angry with me for expecting something of him, even though i don't even though i don't expect anything from him, because wanting something from him and expecting something from him are the same in his mind.
two: he could try to fulfill my expectations without regard for his own desires, even though i don't even though i don't expect anything from him, because wanting something from him and expecting something from him are the same in his mind.
either of these would be bad. i should leave.
and so cas tries to leave and dean is like no. you cannot leave. why the fuck are you leaving me you bastard.
and cas is like "well, eventually, you are going to do one of these two things, because you have serious boundary issues." and dean, who was definitely at least considering doing thing number two, is like "obviously that's not what i was going to do, idiot."
and then i started sketching out more dialogue from this exchange and it came out like this:
cas: you don't want me
dean: you don't know me! i could be gay
cas: that is Not what i'm talking about
dean: ????then what are you talking about
cas: dean. did you love lisa braeden?
dean: but- i- wh- of course!!
cas: of course you played the role of being in love with her but, dean... did you want to be with her?
dean: ...
cas: you can't answer me because you don't know because it never occurred to you to ask the question
dean: but... but... you're not lisa.
cas: i'm someone who loves you and wants you to be my child's father. you and i already have a domestic life together but i have no idea where i stand with you. surely you can see the parallel.
anyway that's why i was thinking about that all morning. deancas deanlisa parallels are not just for "you did something terrible to my son" posting or guiltposting they're also for like. dean's-dysfunction-around-romance posting.
also, incidentally, i think on labor has one of the most interesting handlings of dean's sexuality crisis i've seen, which is: dean starts having sex with cas because he thinks he owes it to cas and then after the fact he's like wow! i liked that! i guess i'm into men. like he would have struggled and had a crisis except that he's too busy having other, even more insane problems. i'm actually going to pull out the paragraph that starts the sexuality crisis portion:
Pretty much the only thing about the whole Cas situation that doesn’t lead to a dumpster fire in Dean’s brain is the sex, which is the last thing Dean expected. Dean, it turns out, is bisexual. Which he probably shoulda figured out and gotten okay with before going and committing to fucking a man for the rest of his godforsaken life, but that woulda taken five billion years and he’s only got the next few decades with Cas, so. Time to speedrun it.
like i don't think this method would work for most fics but it's a really interesting direction to take it in.
i'm gonna end this post with a quote from a post about boundaries that i find applicable to the situation:
When you don’t feel like you fully own your own body, the world is a scary and unpleasant place. Every single desire expressed by another person is a demand on you. From there, you can screw up in two ways. There’s my failure mode, doing things I don’t enjoy and which my partner only enjoys because I’m lying to them. And there’s the failure mode where you go around invalidating desires when you can’t fulfill the implicit demands. Thus all the people who start arguing when they hear people say preferences are socially mediated. Thus all the people who insist that sad lonely people are in fact acting "entitled” when they talk about being sad and lonely.
When you believe that your body is yours, you can say “your need is valid and important and I’m not going to meet it because I don’t want to.”
When you believe that your body is common currency, the only 'no’ available to you is “your need is not valid and not important and I’m not going to meet it because you are not worth it.”

Some food for thought:
You have to ask yourself why Sera Gamble decided to blow up Dean, Lisa, and Ben when that was how Kripke had set it up in the end of Swan Song? Was it because Dean needed to go back into hunting, back on the road with Sam, and Ben and Lisa were hurdles to that? Why did it have to be one or the other? (despite Lisa and Ben constantly being in danger) Why not have them in a long distance relationship longer than the little bit we saw? (Crowley and Cas happened after Dean and Lisa broke up) Why not show Dean happier to be with her and Ben, even after Sam came back? Why did they enter the dialogue into the show that confirms that Dean was only with them because that's what Sam wanted, and Lisa only wanted Dean as a dad for Ben?
Tumblr media
If Dean was meant to have a love interest, more specifically a female love interest, why was he not given another one after Lisa? Sure, he had casual sexual encounters, but why nothing lasting longer than an episode? We saw a couple of love interests for Sam after what happened to Jess: Amelia, Eileen. So why didn't they also give that to Dean? Why only a love interest (pre-story) in the form of Cassie? And the whole thing with Lisa? Why not one more for Dean that could've lasted for a bit? Some (even the actors) can blame the audience and Wincest/J2 stans all they want for that, but ultimately, some of those people do self-insert with Sam, too, so why no love interest for Dean? Even if it only lasted a couple of episodes?
And why when it looked like Dean had a semi-romantic connection to another female character...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...did they immediately make it clear that it wasn't one that Dean wanted?
Tumblr media
Even when Amara turned back up in 15x15? Sure, Dean felt a bit guilty about lying to her, but he did what he had to do. Like Chuck said to Amara "yeah, but he would send you into a meat grinder with a wink and a smile." Why wasn't Dean feeling even more guilty? Why didn't they resume their connection? Even for a moment (other than her explaining why she brought Mary back)? Why is the only reference we get to that previous connection two lines: "You know, we had that thing" and "I would never hurt you" (when he lies to her)? Other than Chuck manipulating Amara (in 15x17) why show how hurt Amara is when she realizes Dean betrayed her? Why show how much more she was into him during her whole stint in season 11, than he was into her?
Even this moment right here:
Tumblr media
Dean is more worried about Cas (I'm not even talking Destiel here, people, I'm just talking about his friend and brother Cas & their profound bond) than caring that she is standing right there. Even Amara and Lucifer notice this (which is why Amara utilizes Cas' connection to Dean to find him later on). The show chose to put this moment in. So why? Why have Dean's connection aka bond with Cas be a direct contrast to the connection/bond with Amara?
And last but not least, why did they parallel Sam and Eileen with Dean and Cas so heavily in the last season? What was the point? Why that shot of a future that Sam saw should they defeat Chuck in 15x09?
Tumblr media
What was the point of Cas bringing in the beers and Eileen saying she will make the popcorn? Why is it only the 4 of them? Why the framing? Why have Cas standing there awkwardly as well as Dean? If it's Sam's vision, why not have Dean take a seat next to Sam or next to Eileen after getting his beer?
Why the paralleled conversation of what's real vs what's not for Sam and Eileen (15x09) and Dean and Cas (15x02)? Bucklemming wrote 15x02 and Berens wrote 15x09 so there were two different writing teams with two different approaches to two different episodes. What was the point?
Why have Dean be "not in a good place" the entire time Cas was gone from 15x03 to 15x07 and then suddenly his mood perks back up after? To where he even says to Sam he didn't talk to him about Eileen earlier (this convo takes place in 15x08) because he was in a bad place and didn't want to jinx it? Why have Dean and Cas act like a divorced duo or a couple quarreling if Cas wasn't important to the story at all? I'm not even talking romantically, why bring the issue with Dean and Cas to the forefront if Cas didn't matter one iota to Dean and Sam's story or the SPN story as a whole?
These are just some questions you have to ask yourself coming from a narrative standpoint. Especially when you claim that a certain scene in 15x18 was only done to satisfy a certain section of fans and had no place in the story whatsoever. Especially when you throw out "Dean is not gay!" and "Dean is straight. He loves women!" and "This is all Mushface's fault! He forced Jensen into it!" and "Destiehellers are delusional! Destiel doesn't exist! Jensen said it himself!" and "You guys are a bunch of delusional idiots!"
You can sit there and claim that Misha was pandering to his fans but newsflash, he didn't get the final say, Dabb and the network did. He may have fought for the 15x18 scene and discussed it with Berens, but ultimately he didn't make the decisions. Even had he been an EP (which he wasn't on this show), though he might have had more weight, he still would not have been able to make that decision. Just like actors discussing a scene with directors while shooting (like Jensen wanting Dean to die on his feet in the barn), just like Jensen and Jared themselves when the finale was pitched to them in the writers' room, they can express their opinions/beliefs but ultimately the story is going to go the way the showrunner and the network want it to (i.e. Dean's death, Sam's half-lived life). Even though Misha has talked about how the 15x18 confession scene wouldn't have happened had Jensen not been on board, ultimately had Dabb and Co decided differently and wanted it in there, it would have happened regardless. They may have tailored it to make Jensen more comfortable possibly, through changes in dialogue or blocking, but it still would have happened. Actors do not possess the power on sets that you think they do. This is why Jensen and Jared pushed for EP credits, which unfortunately did not come to fruition. Actors can make some suggestions, give feedback, have discussions, and fight for certain things (and sometimes they win, like with Jensen mentioned above), but ultimately, it's all up to the showrunner. And above the showrunner, the network. If they don't give the greenlight, it doesn't happen.
So again, I ask you, why no female love interest for Dean (other than a woman the show immediately set out to dismantle his relationship with an episode later, a previous flame, and a connection to a deity he doesn't want)? From a narrative standpoint, why?

Endless ways to say ''I love you'' without really saying it by Dean Winchester:
The trenchcoat:
Tumblr media
«I said I needed a big win. We got Cas back. That's a pretty damn big win.» (13.06)
There's no normal after that:
«They said I could leave, an hour ago. But where am I even supposed to go? I watched the man I love die. There's no normal after that.» (11.17)
«He's in the corner, back to the wall [...] shattered, hopeless, ALONE.» (15.18 script)
Tumblr media
«We lost everything, and now you're gonna bring HIM back.» (13.01)
«But, first, you got to put everything back the way it was. The people, the birds, Cas. You got to bring him back.» (15.19)
Tumblr media
«Let me bottom line it for you: I'm not leaving here without you. Understand?» (8.02)
«I don't need to feel like Hell for failing you. Okay? For failing you like I failed every other God forsaken thing that I care about! [...] I did not leave you!» (8.07)
Praying to him, again and again:
«Please man, I need you here.» (9.01)
«I prayed to you Cas, every night!» (8.02)
«Cas, I hope you can hear me.. that wherever you are, it's not too late. I should've stopped you. You're my best friend, but I just let you go. [..] And I -- I forgive you. Of course I forgive you. I'm sorry it took me so long, I'm sorry it took me till now to say it. Cas, I'm -- I'm so sorry.» (15.09)
«I need you.» (8.17)
Tumblr media
«What about Cas? He manipulated him. He made him promises. Said "Paradise on Earth," and Cas bought it. And you know what that got him? It got him dead! Now you may be able to forget about that, but I can't!» (13.03)
«Ever since the Mark made Cas go crazy? Ever since I had to bury him in a Ma'lak box?» (15.09)
Holding his face after almost losing him (9.03/11.01):
Tumblr media
By protecting him, always:
▶ ANGEL: If you lie to me, Dean Winchester, I will rip your throat out. Where is Castiel?
DEAN: Who's asking?
ANGEL: Try every angel who was ejected from their home.
DEAN: Oh. Oh, well, in that case, I have no clue. (9.01)
▶ ISHIM: «Do it. You blast me away, you'll blast away every angel in the room. I'll survive. Castiel, on the other hand, he's hurt. He might live or he might just end up a bloody smear on the wall. Roll the dice». And Dean lowers his hand, protecting Cas at the cost of his life. (12.10)
▶ (12.23):
Tumblr media
«Sorry but I rather have you, cursed or not.» (7.23)
Talking to Mary about John and making the mixtape for Cas:
«He was cute and he knew the words to every Zeppelin song, [..] so when he asked you for your number, you gave it to him.» (12.01)
«It's a gift, you keep those» (12.19)
Tumblr media
«There's things, there's people, feelings, that I want to experience differently than I have before. Or maybe even for the first time.» (10.16)
By making the hearth-choice, instead of the smart choice:
SAM: Dean, it's a strong vessel. It's held Cas for years, and we know what he's been through. I'm guessing it can hold Lucifer.
DEAN: "It"? It's not an ''it'', Sam, it's Cas! Cas is family!
Talking about Amara:
«Every bone in my body wants to run her through. Send her back to that hole she crawled out of. But when I’m near her, I don’t know, something happens. I can’t explain it. But to call it desire or love – it’s not that”. (11.13)
Amara to Dean: «Something stops you. Keeps you from having it all. Where are your thoughts?» (11.21)
Tumblr media
By thinking about him before anything else:
MIRIAM: Because Bieber in there? He can do almost anything.
DEAN: Anything?
MIRIAM: Oh, sweetie. Almost anything. Castiel, he's dead. All the way dead, because of you. (13.01)
Hugs&soft smiles:
Tumblr media
Alcohol abuse/suicidal tendencies/uncontrollable rage after every Cas's death.
«Where were you when I needed to hear it?» - «I was there, where were you?» (6.20)
And, last but not least, the way he looks at him:
Tumblr media
«Don't ever change.» (5.04)
Obviously this can't be all, there are a lot of parallels and moments I couldn't put in here, so feel free to add whatever you think it's missing! ❤

Alright clowns, here are my thoughts on 15x20. This is all just hopeful speculation but even my straight male friends think Cas will be back based on my points here. They never considered Destiel before episode 18 and now they see it.
Reasons I think Cas will be back:
- The title card for the season is the empty goo, not anything to do with chuck??? thats just weird. Could episode 20 focus on the empty? What else could it focus on now? WHY IS THE TITLE CARD EMPTY GOO?
- The whole “chuck ending” vs “free will ending” theory is BRILLIANT and I LOVE IT. If you are unaware of this theory, basically people think 19 was chucks shitty cliche ending and we will get the real ending in 20. It makes so much sense because...
- no ones relationships got resolved in the 19th episode. Where is Eileen? why doesnt Sam seem to care??? why didnt Jack bring his DAD back when he became god? He loves Cas, he wouldnt just leave him in the empty to relive his worst memories over and over. Why didnt dean ASK Jack when he asked Chuck earlier in the episode? Its all just really weird. Plus at the end of the montage they shut the impala trunk which has ALWAYS indicated “we have work to do” like “this isnt over yet”. Its never symbolized the end. That would make no sense to use if it was the real ending.
- Jensen did not say Cas was dead in his panel, in fact he didnt talk about it at all. True the questions were filtered but WHY unless Cas was a character he couldnt talk about???? I think if Cas was really gone Jensen would say so outright and talk about how much he loved working with Misha. Weird. Plus when asked Misha was like “Im not telling you if Cas is in the finale” WHY if Misha already said Cas is gone would he not say “no Im not in the finale that was it for Cas”? Other actors have said they are done outright, why not Misha?
-Jensen said he KNOWS how much Destiel means to people and he and Misha traded fan react videos to 18 and Jensen left it open to interpretation in 18. He said Dean was procesing what was happening just like we thought, he didnt say Dean doesnt reciprocate. BUT Even if Misha isnt back in the last episode I dont think Jensen would ever agree to have Dean say he doesnt love him back romantically. He knows it would hurt us.
-Jensen had to talk to Kripke about the ending. Kripke wrote Dean as this straight playboy initially so this would line up perfectly. And Kripke told him he was too close to it and to step back and look at it from a fan perspective. Interesting because...fans love Cas. Fans love Dean and Cas together. So obviously fans dont want Cas to stay in the empty right? Even if they dont explicitly make this full canon, they could imply it and maybe thats what Jensen needed to wrap his head around for a minute? He said he gets the ending now. But he said Kripke had to break it down for him before he got it. Maybe Kripke was like the shows evolved since 2005 and thats not a bad thing and its fine if thats the direction its gone?? It’s just INTERESTING that he had to talk to the shows creator about the end.
- The confession scene was the FIRST SCENE they wrote for Season 15. Weird. Odd if it wasnt going to be a huge focal point of the season. Why write that first? I went to film school (not that I work in the industry now but I still studied this shit) and thats WEIRD to do for a first scene if its not super important to the season arc.
- You cant discount all the build up throughout the show. Even if it wasnt their original intention, the comparisons of Dean and Cas to Cain and his love interest were a HUGE turning point. Exact parallel of “she asked me to stop” flash foward to Cas literally asking Dean to stop. Just...wow. Obvious much? They know all this from fans now and are like wow we really laid some groundwork here didnt we? Why do you think they gave us that confession? If they didnt realize all the groundwork laid they wouldnt have done it because it would have felt out of nowhere. Clearly they didnt think it felt out of nowhere. Clearly Dean’s happiness depends on Castiel being there. As a friend, as a lover, WHATEVER it might be, Dean needs Cas to be happy. Period.
- Andrew Dabb created the Empty. Andrew Dabb loves Cas as a character. Andrew Dabb is writing the last episode. How INTERESTING.
I could just be clowning but all of this is just so weird that I think we are onto something here people. Jensen said 20 is going to be BIG. HOW COULD IT BE BIG UNLESS THEY ARE HIDING HUGE PLOT POINTS FROM US?
PS why hasnt Dean had a serious female love interest since season 5/6?

Part 1: “Words of Affirmation” Destiel Quotes & Parallels
I’m sure someone’s done this before me and done it better, but I’m compiling a huge Destiel evidence docket for no reason. Anyone got any quotes to add?
Comments From Outside Characters
To Dean
Uriel: “He has this weakness. He likes you.” (4x10)
Balthazar: “You have me confused with the other angel. You know, the one in the dirty trench coat who’s in love with you.” (6x17)
Hester: “The first time Castiel laid a hand on you in Hell, he was lost.” (7x21)
Meg: “He was your boyfriend first.” (7x23)
Charlie: “What about Castiel? He seems helpful. And dreamy.” (8x20)
Marie: “Although we do explore the nature of Destiel in Act 2.” (10x5)
Sam: “Shouldn’t it be Deastiel?” He then goes on to tease Dean with “Sastiel” which Dean takes negatively. (10x5)
Dean: “This Cas is looking at me weird.” Sam: “So like the real Cas then.” (15x14)
To Castiel
Hannah: “We gave you our trust. Don’t lose it over one man.” (9x22)
Metatron: “His true weakness is revealed. He’s in love…with humanity.” (9x22)
Metatron: “Oh, that’s right. To save Dean Winchester. That was your goal, right? I mean, you draped yourself in the flag of heaven, but, ultimately, it was about saving one human, right?” (9x23)
Ishim: “I’m going to cure you of your human weakness [i.e. Dean]” (12x10)
The Empty: “I have tiptoed through all your little tulips. Your memories, your little feelings, yes. I know what you hate. I know who you love…There is nothing for you back there.” (13x4)
Demon: “I thought you were joined at the… (looks down) everything.” (14x01)
There are also several instances where other characters try to poke at insecurities regarding their relationship.
Naomi: “You're hoping Castiel will return to you. I admire your loyalty. I only wish he felt the same way.” (8x19)
Casifer: “There comes a time when every relationship has run its course.” (11x18)
Michael!Dean: “You only tolerate the angel because you think you owe him, because he ‘gripped you tight and raised you from Perdition.’ Or whatever.” (14x10)
Comments From Dean
To Cas
“There are two things I know for certain. One, Bert and Ernie are gay. And two, you are not going to die a virgin.” (5x03)
“So what? I’m Thelma and you’re Louise and we’re just going to hold hands and sail off this cliff together?” (5x03)
“You know what? Blow me, Cas.” (5x18)
“Cas, not for nothing, but the last time someone looked at me like that, I got laid.” (5x18)
“Look, I don’t need to feel like hell for failing you, okay? For failing you like I’ve failed every other godforsaken thing that I care about! I don’t need it!” (8x07)
“We need you. I need you.”
For more on this quote see the “We vs. I” section.
To Other Characters
Bobby: “I think maybe it’s time you made a call.” Dean: “Why does it always gotta be me that makes the call, huh? It’s not like Cas lives in my ass. The dude’s busy.” (Cas appears) Dean: “Get out of my ass.” Cas: “I was never in your… (head tilt)” (6x19)
“On my car…. He showed up naked… covered in bees.” (7x23)
While Cas suffered from some mental issues at the time, it seems somewhat significant that he sought Dean out under the circumstances, not Sam, etc.
“There’s things… people… feelings that I want to experience differently than I have before, or maybe even for the first time.” (10x16)
“My shy but devastatingly handsome friend here” (12x12)
“He came into my room and he played me.” (12x19)
“Let’s see. Crowley’s dead, Kelly’s dead, Cas is—Mom’s gone.” (13x01)
Dean’s inability to list Cas’s death singles him out as the most devastating of the losses.
“We’ve lost everything. And now you’re gonna bring him back.” (13x01)
While some people have heard this as “bring ‘em back”, the Netflix captions and transcripts I have been able to find say “him.”
“And Cas bought it. And you know what it got him? It got him dead! Now you may be able to forget about that, but I can't!” (13x03)
“I have a family.” (In response to John Winchester lamenting Dean doesn’t have a wife and kids) (14x13)
Comments From Cas
To Dean
“I was getting too close to the humans in my charge. You. They feel I've begun to express emotions. The doorways to doubt.” (4x16)
“I’m hunted. I rebelled. And I did it—all of it—for you.” (5x02)
“I gave everything for you. And this is what you give to me.” (5x18)
“I do everything that you ask. I always come when you call.” (6x21)
“So you will bow down and profess your love unto me, your Lord.” (6x22)
Before taking on the role of God, Cas seemed very concerned with Dean’s forgiveness/acceptance/love. It is interesting that, as God, that was the first thing he asked for, turning from Sam (who had just stabbed him) to Dean to ask for love.
“Sam, and everyone you know, everyone you love, they could be long dead. Everyone except me.” (10x22)
“I love you. I love all of you.” (Arguably to the group, but the first “I love you” can be seen as Dean-specific, especially since it cuts to Dean after being said.) (12x12)
“You mean too much to me. To everything.” (12x9) (To Mary, Sam, and Dean. However, the camera immediately cuts to Dean specifically, even though he is in the back of the group).
“I’m your Huckleberry.” (13x06)
Cas love confession (15x18)
To Other Characters
“Dean and I do share a more profound bond.” (6x03)
“I won’t hurt Dean.” (8x17)
This is said as Castiel is breaking away from Naomi’s mind control—mind control she fostered specifically by having Cas kill a thousand versions of Dean. This implies she knows that Cas’s strongest loyalty is to Dean, not Sam, or humans in general.
“The point is that they [Dean & Sam] were here at all and you got to know them, you -- When they're gone, it will hurt, but that hurt will remind you of how much you loved them.” (14x14)
“You know, Dean, he... he feels things more acutely than any human I've ever known.” (15x13)
Other Comments
Reaper: “How do I start looking for this... Castiel?” Bartholomew: “I got one word for you. Winchester.”
Rowena: “An Angel of the Lord, shattered at the altar of Winchester.”
Use of We vs. I
In the crypt scene in Season 8, Dean tells Cas, “We need you.” This is not enough to stop Cas’s actions. When the language switches to “I need you,” Cas drops the angel blade.
We can clearly see that Dean tries to put up barriers about how he really feels about Cas in his use of “We.” For example, after showing the audience many scenes of Dean, not Sam, frantically trying to call Cas, we get the following lines:
“So not only were you ditching us, but you were also ignoring us?”
“With everything that's going on, you can't just go dark like that. We didn't know what happened to you. We were worried. That's not okay.”
It’s clear that these “we’s” are really “I’s”
In the alternate future presented in 15x9, Sam asks Dean, “What’s happened to you Dean… ever since…?” to which Dean responds, “Ever since what? We lost pretty much everyone we’ve ever cared about? Ever since the Mark made Cas go crazy and I had to bury him in a Malak box… ever since then?” While he acknowledges Sam’s losses as well, his switch to “I” in reference to Cas implies that Cas’s loss belongs especially to him.
(Mostly) Verbal Parallels to Other Couples
In 1x01 (start at 2:27), Dean pulls Sam away from a dead Jess in a direct parallel to how Sam pulls Dean away from Cas in 12x23
Following Jessica’s death, Sam keeps seeing glimpses of her as he and Dean travel around in the Impala. Dean does the same in Season 8 following his return from Purgatory without Cas.
David from “Bloodlines” (9x20) tells his love interest, “I was there. Where were you?” which is the same thing Dean says to Cas in “The Man Who Would Be King” (6x20)
When asking Dean whether he’s in love with Cassie, Dean gives a similar response to what he will say in 10x5 when asked about Destiel.
Destiel is paralleled with their counterparts from the Supernatural play who are “a couple in real life” (10x5)
Cain compares himself to Dean in Season 10. He describes the significant kills of his life (The Knights of Hell, his wife Collette, and his brother Abel) and tells Dean that he will follow his same pattern by killing the King of Hell Crowley, Castiel, then Sam. It is also mentioned that all Collette asked of Cain was “to stop,” which is the same language Cas uses with Dean in 10x22.
Dean explains how his parents fell in love to prove his identity to Mary in 12x1, “He was cute and he knew the words to every Zeppelin song, so when he asked you for your number, you gave it to him, even though you knew your dad would be pissed.” Later in this same season (12x19), Dean gives Cas a homemade mixtape of his favorite Zeppelin songs.
Ishim fell in love with a human named Lily Sunder who ultimately left him for someone else. When trying to recruit Castiel, he compares Dean to her.
Dean questions how much of their life has been controlled by God. Cas states, “You asked, ‘What about all of this is real?’ We are.” (15x02) Later, they find out that God has been using Eileen to spy on the Winchesters. She says, “After what happened, I don’t know what’s real anymore.” Sam kisses her, stating “I know that was real.” (15x09)
