dreamily sighing thinking about jason getting a lil jealous... like you KNOW hes the type to have really good jealousy sex. ofc hed always respect your decisions but if some guy was flirting with you and you didnt notice (me im terrible at picking up on social queues) or he saw how a guy was looking at you? ohhh he's fucking you HARD that night.
he's rough, but he's so needy it's crazy. pounding into you, leaving hickeys where he probably shouldn't, groaning and grunting and he's repeating "mine" over and over. he's telling you you're his and that only he gets to make you feel this good, no one else. he's trembling as he fucks you cause as much as it turns him on to claim you, to make you his, he really does worry about you leaving him for someone "better"
afterwards i think he'd be all needy and cuddly and he'd tell you as much as you're his, he's yours.
-🧸
The amount of cashiers that have flirted w me and I haven't noticed and have had to been dragged away from is terrifying. also just other men in general too. I like to talk.
He wasted no time after he walked inside. He scooped you up and carried you to bed, ruining your shirt in his haste to get it off.
You're splayed out beneath him with your fingers tangled in his hair. Your breathing is labored as he leaves hickeys, very visible hickeys, on your neck and around your collarbones. Eventually he makes his way down, kissing every inch of skin he can get to.
"Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine."
Each word brings him lower and lower. He makes his way to your inner thighs.
"Mine. You hear me? Mine." He punctuates the last one with a hickey to the inside of your left thigh where you know you'll feel it tomorrow when you go to walk.
His mouth finally makes its way to your clit and you thrust your hips forward. He bring one hand to your hips and forces them against the mattress in a bruising grip, using his other hand to prod at your entrance.
He removes his face and begins using his fingers to work you open.
"You're mine, all mine. Mine. No one else can make you feel this good."
Once he's satisfied, he climbs over you and aligns himself with your entrance.
"You want it, baby?" He slides his dick in, but leaves it unmoving.
You nod your head.
"Then say who you belong to."
"Mmph. Shit. You."
His pace is immediately brutal. He trembles as he thrusts.
"'s right, baby. You're mine. So good for me. My pretty baby."
----
After it's all said and done, he's the little spoon. You tell him he's yours and that you love him until he falls asleep in your arms.

Hi can I please request a Jordan x reader . Reader has power that glitch & saves Jordan. Reader hey I am lucky that I didn’t get stuck in between a wall.
Thank you.
Flying Grand Pianos - headcanons
pairing: jordan li x gn! reader
tw: cursing, mentions of uncontrolled powers, cate and sam went to prison (i'm sorry okay! they're my pookies but for this fic to work i had to do something), uh nothing much ig? unless u have a phobia of falling pianos... then maybe don't read this??
description: your powers come in handy in the weirdest situations.
a/n: hiii hopefully u enjoy this! i literally did not mean to make this as insane as it ended up being but hey i'm sick and running on like too little sleep, i hope it's still entertaining tho cause i had sm fun writing this lol. i tried to integrate everything you said into headcanons cause it felt more apt ? ig... anyways requests are open & lmk ur thoughts <3
Tumblr media
It was your final year at God U, somehow you had actually made it through the insanity that happened during junior year. You had even come out of the whole situation with a whole new group of friends… even if Cate and Sam sort of had to be locked away because of all the shit they did.
Thank whoever had decided to call the FBI because you had no idea how the entire situation might have turned out if Homelander showed up instead.
So life had turned back to normal towards the end of junior year, mostly because Vought was able to keep most of the situation quiet. Now you were only a step away from becoming an actual superhero… which was a strange situation to think about.
Your powers weren’t all that noteworthy but were insanely useful in battle and to get out of awkward conversations… especially since you were able to mostly control them.
You had the ability to glitch, which essentially meant you could manipulate the fabric of reality around you and mess with it (always with a limit of course, you weren’t an all-powerful magician). You mostly used it for teleportation or to mess with people, something that was always sooo worth it.
You also were kind of insanely good at dealing with actual glitches in computers, which made absolutely no sense but it did help adding to your skill set for your major.
There was probably one specific time where your powers worked in your favor in the best way possible. Over the past few years you sort of developed a tiny little miniscule (HUGE) crush on Jordan Li and now that you were actually able to call them your friend that tiny little crush grew into something way bigger.
What you weren’t aware of was that Jordan felt the same way, they always viewed you as this pretty incredible supe but never really had the chance to talk to you… until the whole The Woods situation. After that it almost made it harder for them to just ask you out on your date… because you had created such a tentative but strong friendship - something that Jordan hadn’t had since Luke. Something that they weren’t sure they would be able to walk away from again.
It was a few months into your senior year when the incident happened. It wasn’t something crazy like Homelander suddenly massacring the school instead it was an incident that belonged in the halls of a supe school… one of the new freshmen had somehow conjured up a piano in the middle of the damn sky and was unable to make it disappear.
The one problem with this piano was that it was falling... and falling really fucking fast.
You had been drinking one of your favorite drinks from Jitter Bean when you were surprised (and very concerned) to see a piano making its way towards Jordan - a very distracted Jordan who was talking, or rather yelling into their phone.
It barely took you a second to make the decision before you dropped your drink and glitched in Jordan’s direction - thank whatever all powerful force was out there for actually having it work because a moment later you reappeared next to Jordan and grabbed their arm before glitching again.
Suddenly you were standing in your room and Jordan was looking at you like an insane person before a loud crash and a whole bunch of yelling was heard outside the window.
Jordan shot a confused look before darting over to the window, only to find that a huge grand piano now stood (well not really it was sort of everywhere) where they had just been standing a moment ago.
You shot them a sheepish smile as they turned around to look at you with a dropped jaw.
“I actually can’t believe that worked, I’m lucky I didn’t accidentally get us stuck between a wall.”
Tumblr media
lol i have no idea what this is but i like it anyways.

I convinced my mom to try the live action One Piece, because she's the type to like this style of show even though she isn't into animation and would never read manga, but I didn't think I'd be able to convince my dad because he's usually a stickler for more grounded and realistic stories (his favourite genre is war movies, his favourite movie is Saving Private Ryan, for reference). But, when I brought up with him how I figured it probably wouldn't be his thing because it was fantasy, he mentioned to me that he does enjoy some fantastical stuff if it has like an internal universe logic, like Star Wars, and the more I thought about it, the more I remembered that he also enjoys campy fun action adventure stuff that doesn't take itself too seriously like Indiana Jones or Pirates of the Carribean.
And One Piece has both that internal logic for why people can perform crazy feats (even if it isn't explained right away) which I mentioned to him (just that there is a reason why people can do crazy things in this world), as well as the campy fun action adventure thing going for it, especially in the Live Action (the fight against Morgan's base even has a major Indiana Jones vibes ngl). So I explained that to him and asked if he wanted to try it, and he agreed to watching the first episode with me to decide if he'd watch it with my mom and me.
AND HE ACTUALLY SAID IT WAS INTERESTING SO FAR!! Like, he is NOT the kinda guy to enjoy anime or manga or even western cartoons, always refuses to watch anything anime and doesn't show any interest when I talk about it (I've managed to convince him to watch a few movies like Sword of the Stranger but it's obvious that even when he's not bored or doesn't hate it, it still doesn't catch or keep his interest), and he's really picky about anything fantasy or SciFi, if it like sets off his bullshit meter too much he starts nitpicking the logic behind certain abilities, or decisions, or explanations, etc. I once tried to get him to try Gravity Falls and he wanted to stop after the first episode. He's THAT picky.
So the fact that he actually laughed several times while watching the first episode of OPLA with me, commented about Luffy's character positively several times (he seems to think Luffy is really funny which surprised me cause I thought he'd be the most entertained by Zoro but I mean I can't blame him it is Luffy after all), never cringed or criticised or said anything about how ridiculous it was, means a lot coming from him cause he's always really blunt and honest about his opinion on this sort of stuff (which is fine I don't want him to pretend to enjoy stuff when he doesn't). He actually watched the whole first episode without it losing his attention, and seemed to have fun! And he agreed to watch the rest with my mom and me!
This sort of thing is one of the reasons why I dislike when people just dismiss the idea of live action adaptations entirely. I get that people are jaded with past failures, and don't like when live action is treated like a replacement for or improvement from animation when it isn't. But it is a valid medium just as much as animation or comics or writing are, and can be used to produce some amazing things. And the fact is, there are people who have a hard time connecting with other mediums who will otherwise never engage with this media in its original forms. Live Action, when done well and done right, can reach new audiences and welcome them into the fold in ways the original formats never can.
One Piece didn't need the live action to be popular, obviously, and the live action cannot and will not replace the original, nor should it. But I love that we get to have it alongside the manga and anime. It's just more of what we love, it's the cherry on top of an already stellar multi-layered cake. It complements the original rather than taking anything away from it. And for the first time in over a decade I might be able to share One Piece with my parents, who would only ever have a chance of experiencing it and enjoying it in live action. There's just something so awesome about that for me personally. I just wish more live action adaptations would understand what the One Piece live action understood about the adaptation process, and that's how to keep the heart of the story in-tact, so more people from more fandoms could have a chance to share something they love with more people who it would otherwise not reach.
Anyway, thank you Oda and the OPLA cast and crew for doing live action right for once!

The brainrot took over and I spent all morning rambling/psychoanalyzing BigB and Grian cause they make me crazy
So it’s been established that Grian + Scar and Ren + BigB are soulmates. No matter what they will find each other- even outside of DL. Fate chose them and continues to choose them
Grian + BigB on the other hand are not soulmates, they just chose each other. It’s rare that they cross paths but typically they’ll stay nearby whenever they do.
3L had blue sword boys (BSB) which was the two of them and Martyn, though Martyn was the only one out of the three that called on the alliance. The desert’s first plan happened at BigB’s castle- an action that steered Scar away from BigB and towards Dogwarts even though aiming for BigB probably would’ve gotten them more immediate results- something I know damn well Grian shoots for. I like to think this was because B was Grian’s backup plan if Scar did die. “Your job isn’t to steal cookies, it’s to do murder” if that was the sole reason for changing targets then why not just attack BigB instead of stealing his cookie?
They didn’t cross paths on the battlefield iirc, even when the desert stormed Dogwarts for the final time. BigB was absent when the desert went sky high and was largely uninvolved in most of the war. Though he sided with DW he didn’t fully stand against the desert, he didn’t stand against Grian. And when the desert stormed DW, BigB was mostly on the outskirts of that fight, which I think was because he’s scared of combat. EDIT correcting myself here but BigB was in fact shot by Grian, even if unintentionally
The next time they see each other is when Scar comes along to sic Bdubs on BigB. The whole time Grian is begging BigB to “do something!!” And saying he can’t watch. EDIT 2 I watched the clip back and Grian specifically told him “don’t go out without a fight.” DON’T GO OUT WITHOUT A FIGHT.
Even after BigB panics and attacks him, Grian is still distraught over the fact that he’s gone. He even justifies BigB attacking him as it being revenge for the arrow
I’m also fascinated by B’s decision to attack Grian instead of the other two reds. Grian was the only yellow name left, which was probably the reason why B went for him over Scar or Bdubs. It could be a fun idea for BigB to see that he was never truly on the desert’s side and attack Grian as a response to that. Yes Grian was pleading for him to do something, but he made no actual attempt to save him. Grian was going to let them kill BigB, and B knew this
Anyways
-
LL they didn’t really interact much- which does come into play during DL
-
In DL Grian and BigB found each other day 1, but alas, not soulmates. But there’s a couple things established in their first interaction. Grian suddenly dropped like 6 hearts bc of Scar and started panicking asking for food. This established pretty much immediately that Grian’s soulmate wasn’t going to save him and BigB was.
BigB, on the other hand, though Grian’s disappointment, reads that Grian would have truly valued his company- not to mention how he knows that G would’ve taken the lead on things B feels he’s weakest at, considering they have past experience
Enter Ren! Ren is someone who truly does value and care about BigB but he is very bad at actually expressing this. He tries spinning negatives into positives instead of working through them- which isn’t a flaw necessarily but it is something that clashes with BigB
I would like to specifically point out that instead of listening to BigB when he said he doesn’t know how to build and teaching him some basics- Ren instead leans into the fact that BigB is bad at building. He decides they should make the ugliest base as a sort of inside joke but I can’t help but feel like BigB was a little hurt by that. He laughs along, but damn.. Ren intended this as some harmless fun but fails to recognize that it’s not what BigB wanted, nor what he needed. BigB does learn to love the base for all its goofiness because he loves Ren, and wants to be there for him
Box pretty quickly becomes about what Ren wants- not through malicious intent but because they have different personalities. Ren is very loud and outgoing while BigB is more reserved.
Ren is someone who tends to jump into things headfirst while BigB tends to follow. Ren also has a habit of not listening to people- something he did in past seasons as well. DW almost crumbled because he failed to listen to Martyn, he got tunnel vision in LL while building the shadow fort and failed to save Cleo- not even realizing she’d died when the betrayal happened on his front doorstep
BigB, on the other hand, needs to be listened to. Again, he’s a lot more reserved than other people but truly shines when he has a spotlight on him. LL was wonderful for this since, after his betrayal, the main plot thread of the fairy fort centered on him- on how his mistakes led to their demise and how it was up to him to fix the situation he caused. BigB stayed closer to his team than ever before, making sure that they knew he was trustworthy. However, B also ran away from the true issue, which was that he had betrayed Cleo. BigB was too scared to try to make amends with them after Cleo burned the fort to the ground, fearing for both his safety and the safety of his team.
Back to DL! BigB overcompensated for past mistakes by fully mirroring whatever Ren did, all the way down to getting a matching pair of sunglasses and dog ears. He didn’t agree with Ren’s decision to ban Pearl from Box, but stood by the decision since Ren had made it. Largely, BigB didn’t feel heard in the relationship- something that’s later discussed in couple’s counseling
Putting a pin in that!
On Grian’s side of things he is in! An entire mess. Not only is he paired with a past fling, but Scar is almost constantly causing problems for him. He’s taking large chunks of damage, getting himself into stressful situations for Grian, and Grian has to drag him everywhere in order to get them to get along. Scar wasn’t even going to base with him, he was perfectly content in them living in separate bases when Grian needed to stay with his soulmate. It comes down to safety for Grian- he doesn’t think he can rely on Scar to keep the both of them out of harm’s way. In fact, Grian has to hurt himself to be with Scar, even in their first interaction with the stalactite!!!!
Grian feels less like Scar’s partner and more like Scar’s mother, having to constantly watch after him and make sure he’s out of trouble. I think Grian even remarks that being with Scar is like watching over a toddler.
Scar’s behaving like this both to try and get Grian to be less uptight about every little thing and also as a means of getting back at him for said little things. Grian didn’t want the pandas in the house? Fine, he’ll hop in some powdered snow. Grian’s upset by him taking damage? Fine, he just won’t eat for a bit. Scar knows it’s not as serious as Grian’s making it out to be but does nothing to reassure Grian.
All this does is push Grian away, so it’s absolutely no surprise that Grian runs off. He tried! So hard! To fix the relationship and doesn’t see Scar putting in the same amount of effort. Again, Grian is his partner, not his caretaker. He shouldn’t be expected to constantly clean up after Scar
No G wasn’t perfect but goddamn
BigB on the other hand, has already been established as a Safe person. Both this season and in past seasons. Remember, Grian was completely absent from the fairy fort plotline, never actually crossing paths with the consequences of the betrayal. This affects both of them. Not only does Grian perceive him as safe, but BigB knows he has nothing to prove to Grian. He is loved regardless, while with Ren he feels the need to prove himself CONSTANTLY with little acknowledgement.
They both felt undervalued with their soulmate but were valued with one another. However, neither one of them wanted to actually leave their soulmate, which is where things get tricky. They were fully in the wrong for cheating on their soulmates, even if they did have a reason for doing so
But anyways
BigB got caught between Grian and Ren, the more he leaned to one side the more he lost the other. This is the same issue he had in 3L- coincidentally landing between the same people.
Both of them kept the other a secret to protect their peace more than their soulmate. Grian even goes as far as to gaslight Scar when Scar clearly knows he’s being cheated on. BigB also lies about Grian’s involvement in his and Ren’s 2nd death, leading Ren to focus solely on Bdubs.
Ren does this to find a target to defend BigB from rather than actually addressing the root of their problems- Ren’s inability to listen. He thinks that if he just Shows BigB how good of a soulmate he is, he can keep BigB at his side when that’s not what BigB needs. So now Box is caught in a cycle of trying to prove themselves to the other
Scar, on the other hand, doubles down on his behavior instead of making any changes. The only thing he does change is how much he listens to Grian. He basically becomes Grian’s lackey, which was meant to address the fact that Grian feels like he has no control over his circumstances. However, he fails to recognize that the reason G thinks he lost control is because Scar himself is a rogue element.
So both sides continue to get worse in trying to course correct- which causes both of them to get into increasingly dangerous situations
-
Also side bar, in writing this I realized if you swapped Grian for Ren they would be perfectly functional on both sides- since Ren’s course correction matches what Scar needs and Scar’s course correction matches what Ren needs. Ren needs support while being a protector and Scar needs someone to stand by him. Grian needs someone who’s safe and BigB needs someone to guide him
It’s a really funny coincidence but anyways
-
Ultimately it was Grian’s impulsiveness that did them in- all four of them. He set the trap at Box trying something ambitious, and he went to get a warden for a last hoorah. I like to think he was emboldened by the fact that the soulmate feature had less emphasis to him in those final episodes. He was thinking about BigB and not Ren and considered Scar entirely separate from him. It also doesn’t help that two of the three soulmate couples that stayed together- were either dead(ranchers), or distant from him(clockduo). Boat boys fed into his chaotic nature through being silly goofy guys
Even after Grian ended his season, BigB still forgives him. He still cares!!
I’m not normal about this season whatsoever
-
In LimL they really don’t properly interact until the very end but we’ll get to that.
BigB’s POV really reinforces that Grian is a loose canon. This was established in DL but LimL reinforces this in a more Romanticized kind of way. Grian’s sort of framed as being dangerous in a fun way and not the “oh this one’ll kill me and dump my body off a bridge” kinda way. He’s a Bad Boy, not a Bad Guy
On the other side of things, Grian’s POV reinforces that BigB is “safe.” The only conflict he has with the Nosy Neighbors is the Judge Judy and Executioner plotline- which Grian doesn’t take seriously whatsoever. Meanwhile, the Bad Boys have conflict with literally everyone else on the server
So when Jimmy and Joel die, it is zero surprise that Grian comes running to BigB again! BigB can’t save him, he can’t even save himself, but goddamnit Grian still trusts him and BigB’s too nice for is own good
And once again!! It’s Grian’s impulsiveness that gets them killed
I would like to also point out the moment where B has 45 seconds left on his timer and while Pearl is desperately trying to save him, Grian sort of stands off to the side and gets ready to crit BigB out if he has to. Remember- Grian was fighting a losing battle to save his boys, it getting to the point where it just wasn’t worth the cost. He hesitated because he didn’t want to lose BigB but wasn’t quick to save him like Pearl was.
And honestly it’s no surprise that Pearl was so quick to give him time. She spent the last season completely on her own and had nobody to turn to. Everyone she tried to stay with turned her away, and BigB was arguably the only person who didn’t outright shun her. Remember, he was only going along with Ren’s decision and I think she knows this. Now in LimL, Pearl has him as someone she can fully rely on, someone who stays at her side no matter what and I also think she panicked at the idea of being alone. Grian has a habit of making selfish decisions, and she knows that won’t bode well for her if it’s just the two of them. Plus she fully understands the power of a sacrifice and what it means to others. Hell, her victory was given to her THROUGH A SACRIFICE. Pearl knows damn well the amount of kindness it takes to do something like that, so her jumping to save B makes complete sense
I also like to think this calls back to 3L, with Grian not moving to save him from Scar and Bdubs. In both situations, Grian thinks BigB was going down anyways and is too scared to do anything to save him. But while BigB couldn’t do anything then, he can do something now. Grian is grateful for the extra time but I can’t help but think this pushed BigB away
Pearl was the last of that trio iirc, with both BigB and Grian dying in clumsy ways
-
SL they coincidentally wound up on the same corner of the map and most of BigB’s silly goofy behavior was directed at Grian but I really need to watch their POVs again to do a proper analysis so we’re putting a pin in that until later

Happy Saturday wonderful fandom :) Ahhh the next in the line of goodies to come. This one doesn’t have a ton for them but doesn’t mean there isn’t absolute gems in it. So it'll be a littler shorter than the last one ha Also Aaron is amazingly hilarious in this episode. I love him to death. Let us get started.
5x09 Take Back
Tumblr media
We start off with Tim being Watch Commander while Grey is miserable in NYC ha Things get immediately awkward when Chris arrives. Still clueless as ever asking Tim of all people about Lucy’s taste in houses. I mean if you don’t know her taste at this point should you really be buying a house together? Tim looks intrigued when he says he needs his opinion then it gets so awkward when it's about a house...
Tim is so very uncomfortable when he asks his opinion. Knowing this is going NOWHERE for Chris. I’ll never forget this hilarious post I saw about this scene after it premiered. I couldn't find it this time around. Had the lyrics from anti-hero by Taylor swift. ‘It’s me. Hi. I’m the problem it’s me.’ You ain’t ever getting that house with her because of that man sitting there LOL Idk why that post made me laugh so hard but it did. It stuck with me clearly haha
It’s so very weird Chris comes to Tim for this. It's obvious he knows Tim knows her the best. Crazy to me he's not threatened at all by that fact. Clearly he isn’t if he’s coming to Tim for advice. Blows my mind how blind he is. Lucy comes in asking what they’re talking about? Chris tells her he found THE house. Lucy looking as uncomfortable as ever at this news. Saying he's going to call the realtor and call her later. Lucy's high pitched 'I can't wait...' Couldn't be more awkward if she tried.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He gives her a kiss on the cheek and leaves. Tim giving that good ole fake Sanford smile when he does. Tim's face crack me up. Like he stole your girl and you have no idea you putz heh Also just so on brand for Chris to not see how uncomfortable Lucy was. He’s been blind their entire relationship It’s unreal. You can also see how much Tim hates seeing him kiss her. Even if it’s on the cheek.
It’s almost a grimace really as he watches it. Probably thinking of all the ways he could easily kick his scrawny ass haha That fake smile begging for Chris to leave the room so this awkwardness can pass. How Chris doesn’t pick up on either of these vibes I don't know. But then we call him the clueless clown for a reason don’t we?
Tumblr media
Lucy doesn’t look comfortable till Chris leaves the office. Tim asking 'How the breakup is going?' HA Cleary it's going well Timothy...Lucy tells him she’s in the planning stages. Just reviewing the literature. Classic Lucy response. Wanting to plan this out completely before pursuing it. Tim telling her a psychology journal isn’t going to tell her how to break up with Chris. I mean he's not wrong.... It's just a bandaid you have to rip off even if its uncomfortable as hell.
He’s so matter of fact with his wording. Using a sports metaphor to explain how she should do it. Makes me wonder if he's actually done this before? Ha She’s adorable in her reply of saying ‘Playbill?’ She truly has no idea what he’s talking about. It’s too funny. It's comical really Tim giving her advice on how to break up with Chris. So you know he can date her haha
Tumblr media
Tim has been very patient in all this but you can see him getting a little antsy about it. It is interesting how full circle this moment is. He set them up in 4x12 and now he’s ready to help break them down in this 5x09. Tim is just so ready for Lucy to do this cause he’s anxiously waiting to be with her. It’s pretty damn cute if you ask me. He’s trying to be patient but also is like can we hurry this along a bit?
Lucy says that’s too cruel she wants to handle it her way. No matter how this goes down Chris is going to be hurt though. It's how breakups go there is alway someone who walks away more upset about it. Her empathy taking the front seat in this decision. Where Tim just wants her to rip the bandaid off. Get this over with ASAP.
Tumblr media
This is where we see little bit of Tim’s self doubt kick in. It's written all over his face when he asks her if she's having doubts? Worried she’s delaying this because she is having second thoughts about him. About them. Lucy immediately squashes his anxiety with her reply. Shooting massive heart eyes his way as well. She wants Tim to know she’s all in just like he is. That there is nothing for him to worry about.
I love how sure Lucy looks when she tells him 'No, I'm not'. She is so certain this is what she wants. Needs him to know this as well. Not a doubt in her mind about this whole thing. She just has stuff to work out with this breakup first. The certainty in her eyes is everything. Nothing makes more sense to her in this moment than him.
Tumblr media
That confidence of hers is why Tim relaxes the way he does above. His whole body draining of the tension he was carrying. His cute smile saying ‘Good.’ Could this man be more of a soft puppy for her? Look at him. That hope and excitement back in his eyes. Lucy replying in kind with her own 'In love 'gaze. They’re both all in and it makes my heart very happy. Also they’re having a full on flirt session in Grey’s office for everyone to see.
I adore Tim being so open and vulnerable in this scene. Making sure she wasn’t backing out. The same Tim who couldn’t communicate in his other relationships to save his life. But with this he is checking in with her. Letting Lucy know his stress about her not breaking up with Chris yet. Lucy assuages his worries instantly. When it’s the right one the harder stuff seems a little easier. More natural. Lucy sensed that panic and instantly calms him with her words and heart eyes. Gah so good. Look at these idiots in love. I just adore them so very much.
Tumblr media
This next scene with Aaron is pure gold. I love him so much he cracks me up. Never expected him to be as funny as he is. He notes how quiet she is being and is asking what's going on? Lucy letting him know she needs to break up with Chris. First off like to say we are all Aaron when he says ‘Finally.’ To her breaking up with Chris. Yesssss and Hallelujah finally breaking up with the clown. Nails it even further when he says Chris was never on her level. I mean yeah he never was. Not ever.
Aaron is speaking for the whole Chenford fandom in this moment LOL Chris had nine lives with her and they've finally run out. Aaron's reaction is the best part of this scene. I love that he knew where Lucy's heart was and it obviously wasn't with Chris. He knows it’s with Tim 100 percent. Like most people in their world do. Tim is her equal in so many ways it’s insane. Chris could never compare as Lucy figured out last ep.
Aaron tells her they can practice her breaking up with him. So it’s much easier when the time comes. It’s not a bad idea tbh. This is where it gets hilarious. Lucy brings up them looking at houses. Aaron kinda judging her for letting get as far as looking at houses. Telling her 'Yikes....' HA Tell us how you really feel my man. Lucy reprimanding him saying that is not helpful....Oh Aaron I love you so very much.
Tumblr media
Lucy starts her speech trying to find her footing in what she is trying to say. She looks over at Aaron in the middle of it and see he is crying. lol If you didn't laugh at this scene you're dead inside. It's so damn funny. Lucy asking him WTF he is doing? Aaron telling her he is channeling Chris's pain LMFAO I mean he's not wrong she had to be prepared for an emotional response. It's just the way he went about this that is so hysterical. He is having way too much fun with this.
Telling her they should do angry next. I'm rolling. Lucy is doing some channeling of her own. She is channeling her man in this scene. It’s so funny. So aggravated with his role playing in this. Wondering why she asked for his advice in the first place? hahaha They then get a call about a 'Navi'. Lucy is so confused. Aaron geeks out and says it's from Avatar. Tells Lucy she should ask if it’s full grown. The look she gives she is channeling her husband again so much. ‘Aaron, it’s a fictional character...’ LMAO
Tumblr media
I really love this ending scene with them. Aaron wants to do one more practice run with her. Lucy tells him she doesn’t need it. (Oh but you do....) That she’s just going to go with her gut on this one. It sounds like a solid idea in the moment but it's honestly the worst thing to wing it. Especially when it's something this intense.
When something is this emotional the right words tend not to just come to you IMO. They sure don't for me. I love him being brutally honest with her about it LOL Saying it’s a terrible idea. That he likes the sentiment but this isn't going to end well. I mean he’s not wrong as we will see here in a bit. Lucy once again channeling Tim in this moment. Cutting him off from saying anything else and just tells him good night haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We get to the breakup scene we’ve all been waiting for. Lucy is bumbling and awkward. Not knowing where to start. Chris once again blind as a bat. He has no idea why she’s acting this way. Lucy curses Aaron for being right about this moment. Saying she should practiced more LOL I adore her panicking and defaulting to Tim’s playbook advice haha idk what’s funnier that or her being shocked Chris knows what she means by saying that.
All that prep and thinking this out and she went with her man’s advice on how to end this. This makes me giddy to no end. I bet you it’s cause Tim was on her mind from the minute Chris entered the apartment. My guess is that is part of the reason she fell back on his advice. Literally the most Lucy Chen thing ever to use it then be surprised Chris knew what she meant. I love her sfm haha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chris stumbles around shocked as hell she’s breaking up with him. He seems so very blindsided by the whole thing. I mean if the man opened his eyes for once he wouldn’t be that shocked…But this Chris we are talking about. Lucy tries to get him to talk to her more. Saying they should sit down and talk this out. Chris just bails not wanting to talk at all. Not wanting to fight for her at all. Just takes off like a child who didn't get what he wanted.
Now I’m ok with this. Obviously we all are. Just goes to show you Tim was willing to fight for her and Chris wasn’t in the end. Lucy said it was over and he just left. I mean he wasn’t wrong there isn’t much to talk about out. She doesn’t love him. But still no fight in him at all after Lucy does this. Just folds like a cheap suit. A clueless clown from beginning to end...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We’ve reached the scene of the ep that made us all swoon and squee. I remember feeling so anxious to get to this scene. I had to re-watch the episode to truly appreciate it all. I was too antsy to get back to them sharing a screen. I was so damn giddy this was the place we were in. They spent the majority of this episode apart. So all I could focus on was her coming back to him in this moment.
I adore Lucy coming back into the station to talk about the breakup right away. Needing to share this news with him as soon as she could. I love that she returned to work just to tell him about this. So anxious to get back to Tim after it was done. Lucy wanted him to know as soon as she could it was over with Chris. Knowing he was just as anxious as she was about the breakup. It's sweet how he tentatively approaches her when she says why she is back.
He wants to be understanding about it. Seeing if she wants to talk about it more. Doesn't just want to jump the gun and bulldoze her feelings about the matter. Lucy isn't there to chat about that though. She wants to cash in on him asking her out. Because she couldn’t wait another second without him asking her out again. They're both so damn nervous and sweet in this scene. Fidgety and excited about the prospect of their future. Lucy messing with her hands the entire time as she explains the breakup. Tim keeping his distance while she explains it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gah I love her fidgeting near her ring as she approaches Tim. Anxiously awaiting for him to ask her out again. Lucy’s nervous way of reminding him to ask her again like they decided. How she looks into the bullpen before approaching Tim. Saying ‘So…’ He looks nervously excited by her doing this. Eric the king of expressions strikes again. The way his eyes go to check the bullpen as well before refocusing on her. He isn't sure what she is going to do in this moment.
The entire station can see into this office. He looks so friggin cute in his nervousness. I love that that she makes him nervous like this it's so adorable. Lucy gains her confidence and looks him directly in the eye flirty as can be. Asking him if there's something he wants to ask her? The whole purpose of her returning to work is to secure their date. Telling him about the breakup was the catalyst yes. But truly she was wanting to hear him ask her out again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim see's her confidence and starts shaking off his own nerves. Replying in a sassy manner. Their banter the undercurrent of this moment going forward. Fueling them with the courage to say what they want to. Tim can't help being playful and sassy with her replying ‘I can’t remember.’ Doing that cute smirk of his that I love so very much. Wanting to push her buttons a little because well it's Tim.
Lucy is affectionately violent in her reply haha Look at her she is beaming with adoration. She loves this goober in front of her so very much. ‘Don't make me hurt you.’ Because she would legit hurt him if she had to in this moment haha I saw a funny parallel from this to her ripping that tape off in 4x07. She'll do it Timothy LOL Don't test your girl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how he gets serious after she says this. It's the way he slowly moves towards her. That intent look on his face in the first one. *fans self* gah. Then in the second one the way he melts for her. In a way only Lucy gets to see. Asking with as much giddiness and excitement as I ever seen in this man. "Do you wanna go out on a date? Look at this puppy of a man. He is beyond excited to ask her this question again. Knowing now he will get a yes with no stipulations this time around. There is still a little nervous hesitation in his delivery which is precious.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucy is bursting at the seams with absolute giddiness when she replies ‘Yeah. I do.’ So happy he's asked her again. How one looks when the man they love asks them out. There’s so much to love about this scene. He’s asking her out in the Watch Commanders office. I love that sfm. Both ecstatic they’re finally going on a date with nothing holding them back now. They’re at work and have to restrain themselves from being too obvious. Which you know they suck at heh
My god anyone looking in on them in that last gif could see how in love these two are. They're so excited just to be around each other right now. The way they’re just standing there looking into each other’s eyes with the dopiest in love smiles. I cannot. I remember thinking the break was gonna take forever to get through. What a time to be alive watching this the first time I remember. LOL
~~~
Is it just me or does John have more chemistry with Genny than he does Bailey? Thought I’ve always had from this ep. Probably just me but I always thought they had solid chemistry.
Greys have a ROUGH SL in NYC.
Celina also has a hard time in the ep. With their suspect dying in custody. She has a tough rookie year.
yo dude i know you just worked your ass off on that vince fic (i can tell bro bc holy shit, like i genuinely think thats my new favorite all time fic i'll go back to for years to come), but rn im just so 🤩🤩 rn with the idea of the football boys playing a game, like maybe a little for-fun game of football, maybe they go to a recreational basketball/baseball field to play a little game that isnt football in their freetime, and someone gets hurt or sumn? damn idk what it is with me and suggesting seeing these boys hurt but GODDDD ITS SO 🤩🤩🤩🤩 (also probably vince wouldnt be the hurt one, as he just got absolutely smushed. he may not even be in said setting bc he's still having to not do anything due to the last fic, if everything is in chronological order)(IH MY GOD WHAT IF VINCE WAS STAYING WITH JONAH AND LEO AND LEO WAS OUT PLAYING THE GAME WITH THEM AND COMES HOME HURT AND THE TWO ARE LIKE "damn not you too")(if you decide to go thru with this ask, please dont feel rushed bc i dont want you to get burnt out yk? take your time 💪💪💪)
"Finally, I see the sun," Vince groaned, causing Leo to roll his eyes.
"It's been literally ten days, you drama queen," he said, removing his baseball cap and pushing his hair back, away from his sweaty forehead, then planting the cap back down, this time facing back.
"Ten days of captivity," Vince said, dramatically rubbing his good hand over his face, "is good to be out of jail."
"I'd like to think my food is a little better than jail's," Leo scoffed, turning around and walking backwards towards the field, "are you sure you wanna stay and watch? Doesn't sound very fun to me."
"I was going stir crazy in that apartment," Vince winced as the limping pulled on his wounded side. He was definitely dosed up on painkillers, but there was still a dull throbbing on his side that the drugs couldn't chase, made worse by all the hopping around, "even sitting and watching you guys play is better fun than watching another episode Rachel's bad romantic decisions."
Leo grinned, turning around so he could run ahead and join the remaining guys on the field and Vince took his time limping towards the bleachers. His shirt was covered in sweat by the time he sat down.
He didn't know all the players. Leo, yes, Spencer and Mikey from the team too. The other people he didn't know, it seemed they were an weird rag tag team of people's various acquaintances. By the way Leo waved to some of them, he guessed they were colleagues from the law firm.
It didn't matter, Vince was just overjoyed to be out of the fancy apartment and smelling freshly cut grass, with the sun shining down on him. He had not been made to sit around, there was too much energy running through him during all hours of the day and the worst part of this whole accident had been no longer being able to hit the gym or the field or, hell, he'd even take Wendy's hot yoga classes at this point.
"Hey!" Luke's voice startled Vince and he turned on the hot stone bleachers in order to see him. Luke jogged closer, "good to see you out of bed."
"You have no idea," Vin nodded, studying his best friend, "you good? Bella said the bug was brutal."
"Yeah, I'm fine," Luke had a huge smile on, much like Vince he hated lying about, although he looked a little paler than normal and his voice was scratchy, "wish us luck."
"Make them cry, captain" Vince teased, raising both thumbs up, his left one cradled in his chest since his arm was still resting on the sling.
Lucas tipped his baseball cap in a cowboy-esque way, "you got it, man."
They were playing baseball and Vince didn't much care for it. It was much too american for him, aside from football he had always been more fond of soccer, something he had in common with Jonah. In fact, Jon had proved to be a bit of a soccer addict, Vince had found in the past week living with him and Leo. He knew all the leagues, yelled at the TV and got sullen when his team lost. It was quite amusing to Vin that, for once, he wasn't the one with the blood pressure skyrocketing through the roof.
He leaned back lazily, barely paying attention to the game, enjoying the warmth. Now that he was sitting down for a bit, the ribs' aching had quieted down.
For the next two hours he watched his friends sprint across the field, shouting at each other, ignoring the yelling from the opposite team. Vince blamed it on the drugs and the sun scorching down, but he was feeling sleepy in no time. He cursed at it, it was such a bummer that everyone else was right and he needed to rest, when all he did was rest now.
"Time!" he heard Lucas say, voice booming. He had that characteristic about him, where he could speak loudly and be heard by everyone without looking like he was screaming.
The group dispersed and Luke jogged back to where Vince was sitting, Leo close behind him.
"Are we winning, son?" Vince teased, causing Lucas to chuckle and shove his knee.
"Didn't make 'em cry, yet, but we're winning," he said, competitiveness rolling off of him. He glanced past his shoulder and frowned, "why are you pouting?"
Vince looked away from Luke, to Leo, and raised his eyebrows. As Lucas said, the blonde had a big frown on and he was squinting at the grass. He angrily rubbed at his forehead, "I don't... I don't feel so good."
"Shit, LU-" Vince shouted, using his good hand to shove Lucas' arm, who leaped forward just in time to catch Leo as his knees gave up.
"What the fuck?!" Luke squealed, his voice breaking. He grabbed Leo by the armpits, manhandling him to sit on the edge of the bleacher's step, "Leo? Leo, c'mon, open your eyes-"
"Not fainting," Leo slurred, pushing Lucas' frantic hands away from his face, "nauseous."
Vince grimaced as he scooted closer, having to prop all his body weight on his right arm in order to lower himself to the step under his, where Leo was sitting. He grabbed Leo's shoulder and then moved his hand up to his neck and cheeks. Despite the fact his cheeks were blazing red and his hair still damp with sweat, his cheeks were dry and his skin felt cold, "oh kid," Vince sighed, "I think you got heatstroke."
Lucas, still looking nervous, cupped Leo's face too, hunching on himself to look him in the face, "aww, why didn't you say anything?" he asked.
Vince watched as Leo's throat bobbed dangerously and he glanced at Luke, "I think you better move..."
He barely had time to say this and Leo was folding in half, vomit jetting out of his mouth and covering the grass under them. Lucas jumped out of the way just in time, but not quick enough to avoid getting the tip of his sneakers covered in orange sick.
"Shit, Leo..." Vince sighed, holding on the back of his friend's muscle shirt, "okay, get it up, you'll feel better in a bit... Luke, can you drive us back...?" Vince voice trailed off as he realized that Lucas had a hand holding Leo's shoulder, but the other one was firmly pressed to his mouth, eyes shut, face pale, "uh... Luke?"
"Sorry-" he said in a muffle manner, then let go of Leo and staggered away from them, bracing against his knees and retching.
Leo groaned, almost falling off since Luke had let go of his arm and Vince squeezed his shirt a little tighter, "don't worry about him, he's fine..." he said, while Leo coughed up another round of brown liquid, "you're fine, right?!" Vince said a little louder and Luke raised a hand, thumb up, while still gagging mercilessly.
Leo spat, then leaned back and almost fell, his head meeting Vince's wounded shoulder and causing him to bite down a scream. He breathed through the pain, as the poor man groaned and leaned his head against his bicep.
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry, I just-"
"It's okay, you can't help it," Vince said, voice strained, "we're going home, just- Here," he winced, reaching back to where he had been sitting and grabbing a water bottle, "take some sips."
"Won't stay down-" Leo groaned, taking the lukewarm bottle and then looking up as Lucas' heaved again, this time managing to bring up a pathetic amount of puke, "is he okay?"
"He's fine," Vince said, rolling his eyes, "drink your water."
Ahead of them Lucas straightened up, belching deeply into his fist and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, walking back to them, "sorry..."
"Since when you get sympathy sick?" Vince asked, while Leo took the smallest sip of water, gagging around the bottle's finish.
"I guess I'm not feeling a hundred percent still," Lucas' cheeks turned pink and he rubbed at his chest, "I'm better now, don't worry."
"Not worried," Vince lied, while Leo let out a moan again, hugging his stomach.
"This is awful, I feel really dizzy..."
"You just need to lie down in a cool place, get some electrolytes in you," Vin rubbed his nape, then glanced at Lucas, "can you drive?"
"Yeah, of course," the brunette nodded, although Vince wasn't feeling very reassured by how milky white Lucas looked. Sadly, there was no other option.
"C'mere," Lucas said, carefully side stepping the puddle on the ground and looping an arm around Leo's waist, "lean on me."
"I'm sorry I made you sick..."
"That was on me," Luke waved him off and Vince gestured for them to go ahead, since getting himself out of the bleachers was a struggle on its own.
By the time he reached them, Leo was sitting inside Luke's car, with the a/c blasting, while Luke was leaning outside of it, an arm wrapped around his stomach.
"I'm fine," Luke said preemptively, "I should've listened to Bell," he let out a sick burp, spat on the gravel and kicked the little rocks to cover up the mess, "really, stop looking at me like that."
"I'm just worried," Vince shrugged, or tried to, only to hiss as it pulled on his shoulder and ribs, "I can call Wendy if you can't drive. She's got the day off..."
'I can drive," Luke shook his head, "I just overdid it with all the running around and the mess..." he gagged fruitlessly against his hand, "I'm good."
"Clearly," Vince agreed sarcastically, then limped to the backseat.
Leo was slumped on the passenger seat, head leaning back, taking some deep, measured breaths.
"Hey, kid," Vin reached in and squeezed his arm, "just hang in there, this is going to pass soon."
Leo nodded, but he still looked dangerously pale, lips pressed in one thin line.
The drive was uneventful, Vince glancing nervously from Leo to Lucas and wondering how their evening had downgraded so quickly. Just as they got close, Leo suddenly hiccupped, slapping a hand over his mouth as a burp slipped out and with the other one he pushed Lucas' thigh "pull over-" his voice was muffled, punctuated by another belch at the end and Luke cringed, turning on the sign and pulling to the side of the road.
At least it was an uneventful Saturday, so the street was almost empty. Leo pushed the door, but didn't even have time to get out. He stuck his head out and coughed up another stream, letting out a whimper.
"Aw, kiddo..." Vince sighed, shoving himself in the space between the driver's seat and passenger one, so he could grab the back of Leo's pants and keep him sitting down. Lucas was no help, despite the guilty expression he had on, he had pressed his forehead to the steering wheel and was gulping nervously.
"It hurts..." Leo groaned, coughing and panting, "my head hurts so much."
"I know, I'm sorry," Vince said unhelpfully, rubbing his back, "get it up, Leo..."
He heard another pitiful whine and then more hurling, followed by a sigh, "I think... I think I'm done."
Or empty, Vince thought, keeping his hand on Leo's back. He glanced at Lucas and cringed. His friend's face was firmly in the gray territory, jaw clenched.
"Take a deep breath, I bet the carsickness isn't helping your situation," Vince said, squeezing Leo's bicep and fighting the anxiety inside of him. He hated not being able to help. He should be the one driving.
"I'm good," Leo slammed the door shut, "I just wanna get home."
"Just a couple minutes," Luke mumbled, his voice all thick and weird, "sorry, I-"
"It's okay, Luke," Leo said tiredly, "Jon gets sympathy sick too, I get it..." he rubbed at his forehead, "just drive, please?"
Once they finally arrived, without another incident, Vince almost groaned as he realized now there was twice as much walking around to be done. He sucked it up, carefully stepping out of the car and offering his good arm for Leo.
"Lean on me, kid," then to Lucas, who was just stepping out of the car, "no. You're not coming in, you're going straight home. Shooo."
"How do you intent on looking after him...?" Luke frowned, despite the pained lines on his face, "Vin, I can-"
"I'm fine," Leo groaned and while Vince could feel his grip was a little too tight for someone who was fine, he knew Lucas wasn't going to be any help, "go home, Luke. I'll text you later."
"...Promise?" Lucas glanced between the two of them, torn between wanting to help and feeling too sick.
"Yeah, we're fine," Vince nodded, ignoring the throbbing on his side, "go home. C'mon, Leo..."
The blonde waved one last goodbye to Luke, then slumped against Vince. Vin could tell he was trying to be mindful not to rest his full body weight on him, but he was doing a poor job of it. He bit down a groan, wrapping his good arm around Leo's waist and resting his back against the inside of the elevator.
"Shitty day," he groaned, causing the blonde to let out a tired chuckle.
"That seems to be a pattern lately," he mumbled, face pressed to Vince's bicep, "it's not as bad as it was out there."
"Good, you just need to rest a bit," Vin reassured him, breathing deeply through his mouth as pain spread all the way up his shoulder. They all but stumbled inside the house and Leo headed straight for the couch, while Vince braced against the desk near the front door and took deep, measured breaths.
"Vin? Are you okay?"
"Yeah," he lied, wiping the sweat from his upper lip, "probably just due my meds... Sit down and turn up the A/C, I'm gonna get you some water."
He didn't dare walking all the way to the bathroom to grab a washcloth. Instead Vince filled up Leo's gym bottle with cold water and then wet a dishcloth, deciding he'd rather face Jon's judgment than to walk all that distance. He limped back to the couch and met Leo's worried gaze, "I'm fine," Vince said, handing him the bottle and sitting down too, "here, lie down."
"You don't look very fine," Leo grumbled, but he was too lethargic to do anything about it. He took a gulp of the cold water and let out a relieved sigh when he rested his head on Vin's lap and the cold dishcloth met his forehead, "this feels much better."
"Uhm," Vince smiled, moving on the couch so he could put his feet up the coffee table. His sprained left foot was killing him, "c'mere, kid."
Easy like that, all the times he had done this to his own sisters came rushing back and he found himself playing with Leo's hair, combing the blonde strands and scratching at the scalp, "you're due a haircut," Vince mumbled, eyes slipping closed as he felt Leo relax against him.
"Jon says longer is hotter," he said quietly, "I've always wanted this, you know?"
"...What?" Vince frowned, opening his eyes and glancing down. Leo seemed almost asleep, the stress taking it's toll on him, "Leo?"
"Family," Leo sighed, cuddling closer and moving the wet cloth to cover his eyes, "it's almost weird to have it."
"Oh..." Vince's heart dropped and he squeezed the blonde's shoulder, fighting a smile, "well... Get used to it, Leo. This is your life now."
Don’t worry! I got them both, and like low-key same 💀 my phone and WiFi have been so bad it’s killing me. My phone is 4 years old, (an iPhone 11) and it’s dying on me. But I love her 🥹 I named her Maxwell. (There is two parts to this ask btw)
At first he would get angry. Super mad, what the hel, he doesn’t want a kid. Why would a god like him want a kid with you?
But then it hits him….you’re pregnant, because of him. It’s not your fault, he’s the one that came into YOU.
He’s a big douche, so at first you probably won’t see him around, but Sif goes crazy on him when she finds out and forces him to take care of you more.
The forcing soon turns into his own decision, he starts to fall in love with you and the thought of a child. The way you become so chubby, the waddling around the house, its so...domestic.
You can’t even fucking bend down to grab a sock, he has to do it for you, you NEED him. Of course that’s what he thinks. You don’t need him, but of course he helps.
He would eventually start leaving the house after giving you a kiss.
The sweetest kisses low-key. On the face, nose, forehead, lips. He kisses everywhere.
He would start rebelling more. He doesn’t wanna go out on dangerous missions and wonder if he’ll come home to see you running at him like a penguin.
When your child is born, he’s so nervous and anxious they don’t let him hold your baby until he’s calm and sitting down. They don’t want him dropping the babe :(
When he holds them, he’s so mesmerized with how small they are. How could this be possible.
He’s especially heart broken when his own mom tells him that he was once that small.
How can a huge man like him…be so small and defenseless like his child. Oh god he’s gonna protect them with his ENTIRE life.
Will watch you Breast feed, ‘cause he doesn’t trust your boob. You have to yell at him for some privacy, ‘cause he’ll just believe everything wants to harm this baby.
This man will NOT get up at night to calm the baby. He’s so tired and selfish.
To make up for that, he does often calm the baby during the day and change their diaper.
He does gag WILDLY. Like you can hear him from outside.
Baby onetime pissed all over him, so you taught him to gentle rub the babies lower belly to release the rest of the pee. Makes sure to do it for like five minutes.
He’s afraid.
Someone disrespected his family once and the man was never found again. Like ever. Not even blood. No one knows what happened.
Gets jealous when he sees the baby laughing widely while you’re making funny faces at it.
He’s not jealous of the attention the baby’s getting. He’s jealous, ‘cause he wants to make the baby laugh…not you :(
If the babe won’t stop crying? Easy. Let magni hold them. They calm down right away…Magni is just so soft and bear like. His boobies are squishy.
If your baby starts speaking? He often calls him “bear”, instead of “papa”
Magni is one fluffy bear.
A strange emptiness fills the Mostro Lounge as the last of its patrons pay their tab and meander out the door. The music and ambient noise stop the atmosphere from becoming downright oppressive, but you’ve grown too used to hearing the stream of collective chattering students. As it is now, the lounge can best be described as lonely.
All the more reason to finish sweeping as soon as possible. Going from table to table, cleaning up all of the bits that have accumulated over the day. It’s not a glamorous job, and that’s fine.
Halfway through the job, the song playing overhead comes to an end and another one begins.
Those fingers through my hair
That sly come-hither stare
That strips my conscience bare
“It’s witchcraft…” You’ve heard this song as many times as you’ve spent evenings sweeping up the Lounge; it’s no surprise you’d learn the lyrics through pure osmosis. And just like the Lounge, it has that swanky, Jazzy swing. You lean on one foot to reach the back corner of the booth.
And I’ve got no defense for it
The heat is too intense for it
“What good would common sense for it do?” The carpet cushions your feet as you move about the lounge, gently swaying back and forth with the beat.
‘Cause it’s witchcraft
Wicked witchcraft
And although I know
It’s strictly taboo
“When you arouse the need in me, my heart says ‘Yes indeed’ in me. Proceed with what you’re leading me to,” You tap your toe, not so much sweeping as much as you are carrying the broom around.
It’s such an ancient pitch
But one I wouldn’t switch
“‘Cause there’s no nicer witch than you.” Hopefully Grim’s not waiting for you back at Ramshackle.
“Jade, Floyd!”
Both twins turn to face their boss and housewarden as he approaches them with a stride too quick to be comfortable.
“I was checking the numbers for today’s earnings and we’re coming up short again. I’m going to need you to help me search the lounge.”
He moved to grab the door, only for Floyd to step in front of him with a smile.
“Sorry, Azul. You can’t go in yet.”
“What? And why not?”
“‘Cause the show’s not over.”
“What are you talking about? What show?”
“Heheh, I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to let you see.”
Jade carefully pushed the doors, just enough that all three of them could comfortably look inside.
There, in the middle of the lounge with a broom in hand like a microphone, was you.
“‘Cause it’s witchcraft. That crazy witchcraft. And although I know it’s strictly taboo,”
Floyd looked down at Azul and laughed.
“Yeah, Koebi-chan’s got some pipes.”
“I’m surprised this caught you off guard, Azul. Haven’t you heard them in Music class before?”
“Of course I have!” he snapped.
But this was very different from listening to you sing a few bars for a class. A little rough around the edges - especially the low notes - but strong and swept away in the moment and uncaring about your nonexistent audience. A song for yourself just for the sake of singing.
“It’s such an ancient pitch. But one that I’d never switch. ‘Cause there’s no nicer witch than you!”
The song quickly comes to an end and Azul’s already wracking his mind for any way he can hear you sing again. Do you need help practicing for Music class? Perhaps you’d be willing to sing at the lounge? He’d rather not resort to a contract, but if the price is right…
Floyd flings the doors open, slamming them against the wall with a loud WHAM!
“Koebi-chan! You sound so nice!”
Both you and Azul jump at the sudden noise and he’s not sure what he should be more concerned over. The very likely probability that Floyd broke something again, or the look you’re giving the three of them. You make that decision for him.
“How long were you all listening in on me?!”
“Well it would be rude to interrupt such a splendid performance.”
The compliment makes your face go a little red. But, judging by your expression, compliments were not what you wanted to hear. You frown and march over to the trio, still holding the broom. Maybe it’s because of the height discrepancy with the twins, but Azul seems to be the poor soul in your sights.
“N-Now let’s not do anything hasty, (Name).”
You shove the broom into his hands and point at a nearby table with a little pile of money stacked on top.
“You forgot to collect a tab. And since you’re all so eager to stick around, you can finish sweeping; I’m going home.”
You shove past Azul and storm out of sight. Jade goes to collect the bill while Floyd grumbles and grabs the broom from Azul, who’s only got one thing on his mind.
That lounge singer idea is looking more and more attractive.
Another week, another visit to the Light Music Club. Your once-a-week break from all of the classes, chores, and hijinks heaped onto you by others. With a little plate of snacks and a cup of tea - brewed by Cater this time - you sigh and let the days worth of stress dissipate.
“Hey, (Name),” Kalim starts, “I know you’re not an official member of the club, but do you play any instruments?”
“I used to when I was little, but I grew out of it. I am in Music class, though, so I still do a lot of singing.”
You realize your mistake too late as Kalim’s eyes practically light up.
“Oooh! Can I hear?”
Cater briefly looks up from his phone to gauge your reaction, while Lilia watches with an amused smile. The fact that you’re sitting with three good friends isn’t enough to stop the anxiety from bubbling up in your stomach.
“Eh, well… I mean, I’m more used to singing in a group than by myself.”
“Aw, please? I bet you sound really nice. Just one song?”
And now Kalim’s pleading. It’s hard enough saying ‘No’ to regular Kalim, but when he starts sweetly asking you with that innocent smile and eyes.
“Fine,” you sigh, deflating a little in your seat, “But just one song, got it?”
“Got it!”
You went through the mental playlist of good songs, and yeah- that one’ll work.
You sat up and cleared your throat.
“We don’t speak of names and places*. Why should we?”
BZZT-BZZT!
The sound of a buzzing phone breaks through the silence of Diasomnia’s lounge. Confused, Sebek takes the device from his pocket and checks the screen. He nearly screams when he sees it’s a message from Lilia.
‘Sebek, is Malleus with you?’
The Young Master? He looks up from his phone, just to double-check that, yes, he’s still reading at the table and hasn’t disappeared in the few seconds Sebek looked away.
‘Yes! Silver and I have been with him all afternoon.’
‘Why do you ask?’
‘Is there an emergency?’
‘Are you or Waka-sama in danger?!’
It’s a miracle the screen doesn’t shatter as Sebek furiously types out his responses.
‘No need to panic, Sebek. Though your concern for our safety is greatly appreciated. I just want to show you all something. I think you’ll enjoy it.’
A little video pops up on screen and Sebek sighs in a mix of relief and exasperation.
“Waka-sama!” he shouts, grinning a little at the sight of Silver being jolted awake, “Lilia-sama has a video he wants to show everyone!”
“A video?” A look of confusion crosses Malleus’ face before he sighs, “Very well, let’s see it.”
He starts up the video and joins the others at the table.
“…And I’m left with all the messes.”
It’s you. Malleus could recognize that voice anywhere, even before the camera pans up and shows you sitting there. Singing.
He gets closer, practically leaning over Sebek’s arm.
“Cleaning up for vows in gold, our fraught affair turned solitaire. Wishing to take back merely one of my ‘yes’s, aching to be yours and have my story all retold.”
“Is that (Name)?” Silver asks, peeking over Sebek’s shoulder for a better view, “Where did he get this footage?”
You continue singing to someone offscreen with a little smile. Absolutely wrapped up in the song. The sound of your voice echoes through the room. Each word and note carrying bittersweet sentiments. Malleus and Silver are properly huddled around Sebek and his phone, not that the first-year is objecting. He’ll have to save this video for later.
“And when we’re dancing nose to nose, darling, do you suppose- oh darling do you suppose… this party could be just us two? And I your wife? Oh~ the gayest party, sad but true. It’s true. The party goes with you.”
Sebek’s pretty sure he just felt the metal phone case buckle a little under his grip. From over his shoulder, he can feel Malleus staring intently at the screen.
All of the power in your voice disappears into something softer as you repeat the line. “The life of the party, in the party of my life.”
A beat of silence, and suddenly Kalim appears from offscreen and practically tackles you.
“That was so good!” he cheers, “You have to join the Light Music Club now! Please?”
His laughter cuts through the air, breaking the spell you had inadvertently woven. Silver chuckles at the sight, but Sebek can’t bring himself to be as amused.
You laugh, “Sorry, Kalim. You asked for one song and you just got it.”
“But you sound so nice! Right, guys?”
“Totally!” they hear Cater agree.
“Oh, absolutely,” Lilia says, “The club would be lucky to have such a gifted addition.”
“Heh, well I’ll think abo- Wait, are you recording this?!”
The image becomes a blur accompanied by the rush of wind and a mix of laughter and yelling. Then the video cuts off. Before Sebek can message Lilia, the device is plucked right out of his hands.
“I want to watch it again,” Malleus said, randomly tapping the screen.
“W-Waka-sama, allow me!”
Silver watches the first-year try to coax Malleus into giving the phone back, all with a nervous smile. Perhaps they should go pay the club a visit next week.
Notes: As a massive fan of music, musicals, and song-fics, the urge to turn Octavinelle's story into a full-blown production is so damn tempting. The first verse for "The Party Goes With You" is 'names and faces', but the lyrics were supposed to be 'names and places' and Ryan only noticed this when he heard official recording and went, "Do you think it's too late to fix it?"
The Case of the Secret Starcourt Base… (Part 1)
Tumblr media
Summary: The very first jump into official canon! Bea gets roped into a new adventure, Eddie and Wayne get worried, and we begin to discover the Secret Starcourt Base…Part 1 of 2!
Part 3 of The Case Of…series.
One Shot Warnings: Mentions of drugs, Mentions of Alcohol, Original Character is stated to be female.
”You want me to crawl through there?”
Bea wasn’t entirely sure how she had gotten into this situation, standing below a ventilation shaft in the back of Scoop’s Ahoy. One moment she had made a last minute decision to get some ice cream before meeting up with Eddie later that afternoon, the next Steve Harrington was dragging her into the back room with his co-worker, Dustin Henderson and Erica Sinclair.
“Can I ask why?” Bea asked, “Did you lose something or…”
The four other people turned to one another in a huddle, whispering amongst each other.
Bea crossed her arms, she hated feeling like the odd man out. And it’s not like she asked to be dragged back here.
After a few moments, the group separated once more.
”We picked up on a secret Russian Communication, and we have reason to believe that they have a base somewheres in Starcourt.” Dustin said, “I’m telling you this because I believe we can trust you.”
Bea blinked- once, twice.
She wasn’t quite sure how else to react to a statement like that, but she knew Dustin from school and he didn’t seem the type to joke about something like this, especially when he looked so serious.
“Erica can fit through the vents, but she wants someone to go along with her- I remember you from school, your one of the good ones.” Dustin explained.
One of the good ones- a loose term for staying out of peoples business and not being a bully. Bea preferred to stay quiet, too much attention and you’d attract bullies like flies. Dustin and his group of friends were some of the good ones too…Before, she didn’t have anyone to help her face bullies, but with Eddie she found herself opening up more than she ever had- look where that got her now.
“It’s a contingency plan.” The younger girl interrupted. “If something happens to me, you can still crawl back through the vents for help.”
“Which won’t happen because we’ll be talking to you guys through the radio the entire time. All you have to do is crawl through the vents and open the transportation door.” Robin huffed.
“Sorry- but I’m still trying to get over the whole Russian base thing, can I have a minute?” Bea gaped, taking a seat at one of the tables.
“I know it seems scary-“
”Seems!?” Bea gasped. “Sorry, sorry…its just.”
“A lot?” Dustin finished. “That’s why we have to do something, if we don’t, they could hurt a lot of people, people that we care about.”
Bea’s mind flickered, thinking of Eddie and Wayne back home at the trailer park…not just her house, but a physical place that she felt at home at. Walking through the door and Wayne greeting her if he wasn’t at work, or Eddie driving around playing his obnoxiously loud music.
She understood for once, what it felt like to want to protect someone other than herself.
A year or two back, Bea wouldn’t have thought twice about it. She would have walked out the door to Scoops and probably wouldn’t have came back, back then she would have thought them to be crazy.
But then Will Byers disappeared for a week, they had a funeral for him, and then he comes back from the dead with little explanation. Barbara Hollands gets caught up in some sort of Laboratory leak, and Bea’s own father, a doctor who worked at a supposed Energy Lap quits his job abruptly and started drinking away any memory of the place.
There was something strange happening in Hawkins, and Bea finally had a chance to figure out what may be the cause of it.
Sure her palms were sweaty and her heart was racing…but…
“Ok. Ok I’ll do it- but I need to make a quick phone call!”
Eddie Munson’s day had been going perfectly fine. He finished a few deals he’d put off while driving Bea back and forth to the library, not wanting the kid to be around while he did the drug deals, and he had plans to meet up with Bea later for movie night. Wayne even had the night off and after much pleading from both Bea and himself, they’d managed to convince Wayne to watch a movie with them.
Bea had peddled off that morning, on the hunt for yet another ice cream cone from Scoops Ahoy and he’d thought about driving over to the mall to pick her up once he finished at the school, but he figured she’d probably already be back at the Trailer Park.
Instead, he walked into his Uncle’s trailer to find Wayne hanging up the phone.
“We’re going to have to postpone movie night tonight.” Wayne announced. “Bea called, apparently she’s been invited to a sleepover with some girls from school, last minute thing but she said it was important. Told me to tell you that she should be free tomorrow night.”
Eddie felt his heart drop for a moment, before confusion clouded his mind.
“Is that all she said?” Eddie asked. “Didn’t say who it was with?”
Bea had told him multiple times that she didn’t get along with many people in her grade, so it seemed out of character for her to randomly drop movie night to go join a gaggle of them. She wasn’t like the other girls, she didn’t like her nails painted or swapping weird romance stories or whatever else girls do at silly little sleepovers.
Bea liked music, books, and she had a newfound love for D&D, she’d even gotten a Hellfire T-shirt just a couple of days ago. Eddie hadn’t ever seen the girl smile so wide when she threw it on over her t-shirt. She was officially part of his crew now.
Maybe he was just jealous, jealous that she’d ditched him so quickly for something more ‘normal’ in the eyes of Hawkins.
But Eddie knew better then that, and he’d gotten to know Bea quickly over the past couple weeks of summer vacation…there was a underlying feeling, a bad feeling that was creeping up.
Something was wrong.
Time passed quickly, and night fell over Starcourt in a blink of an eye. Erica stood beside Bea, kitted out in elbow pads, a backpack and a bike helmet fitted with two flashlights.
Bea was pretty sure her single flashlight and one of Robin's sweaters to keep from getting ventilation shaft gunk on her new Hellfire shirt would suffice her just fine, but if all of that made Erica feel safer than who was she to say anything?
With word from Robin and the others topside, the operation was a go. Erica climbed up the ladder first and crawled into the shaft and after a few moments she called back to Bea to tell her to follow.
For once her shorter size paid an advantage, and without the clunky elbow guards she was able pull herself through the shaft with ease. Erica’s flashlights led the way as they followed the route that they had spent the afternoon memorizing.
“We’re here-“ Erica called back, “The storage rooms empty, no guards in sight.”
Bea heard the faint buzz of the radio and Robins voice confirming and they enacted part two of the plan. Erica kicked out the panel and threw her backpack down and Bea shuffled forwards to follow.
The storage room didn’t look like a secret Russian base, if anything it just looked like any other storage unit, full of boxes belonging to that Chinese place in the mall. Maybe they were full of fortune cookies or something.
Bea pulled herself a little closer to the edge, maneuvering her feet around and sliding out into the room. Erica was already one step ahead opening the control panel to unlock the doors.
Glancing around the room, nothing seemed out of place, she didnt see any sort of security camera’s or big signs alerting anyone to a secret Russian base.
She probably should have been concerned about that-
Eddie paced around the trailer- there was something off about this entire thing and the more time that went by, the worst he felt about it. Wayne had laughed it off, making a joke that Eddie was acting like a mother hen-
He’d gone over to Bea’s, just to see if she’d come home…but her bike was still missing and the lights were off. Her father most likely at the bar yet again, and wouldn’t be back until the early morning if he wasn’t back by now.
He’d tried to think of some of the kids in her year, but names eluded him and he didn’t want to seem crazy calling a bunch of her classmates looking for her. Even worse would be talking to any of the kid’s parents and trying to explain that he wasn’t family, but she was basically his little sister and she was missing.
Finally in desperation he’d gone out to the van and drove into town, Bea’s newly renovated bike wasn’t hard to miss now that it was ‘sunset orange’ as she still loved to call it. Eddie was fairly sure she was the only kid in town with the colorful bike…and he was pretty sure no one else would be caught dead with a bike that color anyways.
The bike made her happy though- so Eddie kept those thoughts to himself.
Unsuccessful, Eddie turned back around to head home, it was starting to get really late. However, one final idea crossed his mind and he turned down the next road heading towards Starcourt Mall.
The Mall lights were still on, they’d never shut off once since they’d turned on except for that power outage the day before. But he could see through the windows that the shops were closed up for the night, all of the employees already headed home for the night.
Pulling up to the curb, Eddie hopped out of the drivers seat leaving his van on.
Very few bikes were left at the bike racks, but there was one down by the end was the one he was searching for. Sunset orange dulled by the neon lighting of Starcourt, but recognizable to Eddie from seeing it so much.
Eddie pulled the bike free noticing that there was no bike lock to be found-
That was the first warning sign.
Ever since renovating the bike with Wayne, Bea had resorted to chaining it to the bike racks, not wanting it to be stolen by anyone after the time and effort they’d put into it. Usually she only left it unchained if she was planning to be in and out somewheres.
The second warning sign was that Bea was nowhere in sight.
If she’d truly left with a classmate for a sleepover she would have figured out some way to bring the bike, either biking to whoever’s house or having someone pick it up and take it with them. She would have needed it to get back home in the morning as well. But here it was, unchained and alone.
Throwing the bike in the back of the van, Eddie ran back to the driver's seat and floored the gas peddle, tires squealing as he sped off.
This time he took the road towards the Hideaway.
“What is that!?” Bea stood on her tiptoes trying to peer around the group huddled around the boxes.
Getting fed up enough she shoved her way in between Dustin and Robin looking inside the box before them.
Steve was the bravest of them reaching inside to grab one of the handle’s of the weird storage container. Robin and Erica backed away with his orders, but Dustin stood his ground as did Bea.
“Back off kid- we don’t know what this is.” Steve told her sharply.
Bea however, having spent the past weeks with Eddie Munson had developed a tolerance to orders- and she didn’t take kindly to them anymore.
“And? If that is something highly dangerous, standing a few feet behind you isn’t going to save our lives.” Bea fixed her words with a classic stare that she used against Eddie.
Steves eyebrows furrowed for a moment before shrugging. Twisting the handle, there was a click, a hiss and he was able to pull a capsule up out of the box. Inside, swirling green liquid gleamed by the overhead lighting, a weird glow cast a green haze over Steve and Dustin’s faces, and Bea assumed her own face was hued with the odd color.
“That’s definitely radioactive gook-“ Bea announced. “Nothing that color is anything that’s safe.”
Everyone glanced between her and the capsule before the floor shook beneath their feet.
Bea’s heart dropped into her stomach and suddenly- she didn’t feel very good, like she’d ridden to many roller coasters.
“You know what- I’m going to wait outside.” She announced quickly, rounding the table and over to the control panel.
“Bea’s right, lets just grab that and go.” Robin followed.
Eyeing the panel before her, Bea pressed the ‘Open Door’ button once.
Waiting a few seconds she tapped her foot before pressing it twice.
“Are these button backwards?” Bea asked her voice raising, her heart skipped a beat and she gave a nervous giggle. “Like is it Opposite Day or something?”
Dustin pushed her out of the way and jammed the button a few more times.
“Just press the damn button nerds-“ Erica scoffed, “Just press ‘Open Doors!?”
“We’re pressing it!” Bea screamed.
Her heart was pounding in her chest and she willed herself to hold the ice cream bowl Robin had made for her, down in her stomach. However, as the seconds passed…that was getting to be more and more difficult.
Steve entered the fray, pushing Dustin over, Dustin pushing Bea over and the three of them began to bicker about the door, Steve slamming his hands all around onto the different buttons.
From the ceiling there came a click and walls descended down over the door’s.
Stepping away, Bea found a spot against the wall as her breathing hitched.
We’re the walls caving in too or was that just her?
For a moment there was only silence except for the ragged breaths erupting out of her chest.
The lights flickered once-twice-thrice-
And it felt like the floor dropped beneath her feet.
Like a rock, Bea sunk to the floor, hands rising to cover her ears as the storage unit- or…elevator? Began its descent to wherever the hell it was going. Unlike Eddie’s shitty driving, or the roller coasters that Bea used to ride on at the fair when she was a kid, this was a speed unlike anything she ever felt making her dizzy and nauseous atop her hysteria.
The others screamed around her, none of them knowing what was happening or where they were going-
As soon as they started going down- the elevator came to an abrupt halt. The boxes around them falling off shelves and the table, Bea’s head snapped back to the wall and she whimpered at the pain. However, the pain was enough to break through her haze and she sucked in air greedily.
“Everyone ok?” Robin groaned, rubbing the back of her own head.
“Everything’s just great!” Steve exclaimed. “Even better now that we know that Russian’s can’t design elevators!”
“Just so you nerds are aware- I’m supposed to be spending the nights at Tina’s, and Tina always covers for me. But if I’m not home for Uncle Jack’s party tomorrow, and my mom finds out you guys are responsible- she’s going to hunt you down one by one and slit. Your. Throats.” Erica snapped.
Bea thought about Eddie and Wayne, Wayne no doubt had accepted her lousy excuse that she was having a sleepover with a classmate- but Eddie? She was pretty sure Eddie wouldn’t fall for it, and could picture him arguing with Wayne over it- but the fact of the matter was she hadn’t told anyone truthfully where she was going. If she went missing, there would be no place to look for her…would Eddie or Wayne look for her anyways?
She wondered silently to herself if she’d ever see them again-
By mid afternoon even Wayne was beginning to be unsettled by the silence from Bea. His days off had been filled with the younger girls questions and laughter since Eddie had befriended her. She’d been a good thing. Eddie had been more responsible in these past few weeks then he’d ever been, acting as the younger girls pseudo-big brother. Hell, Eddie and him hadn’t even been this close in years.
By evening he began to question the truth to her story- she’d never mentioned any other friends her age before and stuck to Eddie like glue. The only other friends she’d talked about were friends she’d met through Eddie and his club.
When Eddie had arrived home with Bea’s bike in the back of his van, and reporting a trip to the Hideaway and finding Bea’s father drunker than a skunk along with his friends, Eddie was panicking. Wayne assured him that Bea was fine, she’d sounded fine on the phone, she was probably just trying to fit in…but even Wayne began to doubt his reassurances.
When no phone call came in requesting a ride home in the morning, Eddie headed back out, this time to the Hawkins Library, Bea had an early morning shift and at the very least he could swing in and make sure she was fine.
If he was worried before, Eddie’s anxiety skyrocketed when the librarian reported that Bea hadn’t shown up for her shift that morning, lamenting about how she’d had to report her a no-call, no-show for the first time.
Eddie didn’t stick around to talk and using the pay phone outside he called his Uncle to report his findings, together they decided the next best step was to head on down to the Hawkins Police Station together, something was clearly wrong .
Eddie just hoped this wasn’t anything like the Byer’s incident.
Shadow
Characters: Sam Winchester, Dean Winchester, OFCs
Warnings: Fluff, just soooo much fluff, brothers being brothers, kittens.
Word Count: 2600
Summary: Sam finds a stray kitten.
Hey! I've written something! The last five months have been kinda crazy, but I promise I have more things in the works. This fic is unbeta'd so please excuse my tense issues. A special thanks to @synmorite and @writethelifeyouwant for dealing with this absolute fluffy nonsense from me. This was meant to be a drabble... but it got away from me. Inspired by this post
My Masterlist
Tumblr media
It started with just one kitten. Sam was out on his morning routine, when he spotted the kitten, hiding (poorly) in a bush next to the bunker. He approaches it slowly, high pitched cries filling the air. Sam searches for a mama cat, or even siblings, but the kitten appears to be alone and abandoned. It couldn't have been more than a few weeks old, and fit in the palm of Sam's hand. It was a little mangy, dark fur matted and gunk in its green eyes.
It purred as Sam held it close to him, the little thing had to be starving.He wraps the kitten in his sweatshirt, and makes the unwise decision to sneak the kitten inside. Once he has the stowaway safely in his bedroom he quickly opens his laptop and Google's 'what to feed
an abandoned kitten.' A small meow comes from the kitten, having unwrapped itself from the hoodie, and is now toddling across Sam's bed, clearly seeking his attention.
He sneaks into the kitchen, trying to find something that will satiate the kitten until he can get to a store and buy proper food. There's some canned tuna-- who knows how old it is but figures that's better than nothing. He thinks about getting some milk, but remembers from the search that cows milk is actually bad for cats, that water is better. He finds a saucer, Men of Letters had all kinds of china stashed away that he or Dean hardly used and scoops a bit of the tuna onto it, and fills a bowl full of water.
Dean eyes him suspiciously when they run into each other in the hall, but doesn't say anything. When Sam returns to his room, the kitten has made itself at home, curling up on his pillow, kneading the sheet, and purring loudly, well, he supposes this is his cat now. Dean's gonna be pissed, but his rules always involved dogs, not cats, Sam reasons, and puts the saucer and bowl on the bed, and watches as the strong aroma makes the kitten's head perk up, sniffing the air before clumsily making it's way towards the food, and chomping away.
"Guess we need to get you a name," Sam's wonders outloud to the kitten, who is currently focused on the food in front of it. "Shadow?" He tests, it's not that original, he knows, but what else could he name it, Snowball? He even looks through a pet name finder, but 'Shadow' is the only thing that seems to stick, and he figures it could work for a boy or girl.
A knock on the door startles Sam, and throws his hoodie back over the kitten in a desperate attempt to hide it. Dean's eyebrow furrows as Sam answers the door doing his best to make himself look like he's not done something wrong. Dean tells him that Jody's asked for some help on a case, a milk-run, but they've been going through an abnormal calm: they haven't had a case in weeks, and Dean has started to get antsy. Sam declines, he's enjoyed the quiet, plus, now he's got a kitten who needs him. Shadow nearly reveals himself by letting out a meow, and Dean seems to want to question Sam, when instead a loud, boisterous sneeze leaves him. Crap, Dean's allergic, Sam always thought he was lying about that.
"It's probably 'cause this place hasn't been cleaned in ages," Sam excuses. "Not since Mrs. Butters…"
"Yeah, well, it's not like we can hire a cleaning service," Dean sniffs.
Sam promises to clean from top to bottom while Dean's away, also formulating a plan to keep Shadow's presence a secret until he can figure out the right time to tell Dean. Dean says he'll be back in a few days, a week at most, and within a few minutes the roar of the Impala's engine fills the garage, and Sam knows he and Shadow are safe.
"You almost got us caught, buddy," Sam chuckles as he uncovers the kitten, small remnants of tuna cover the kitten's face, he scratches the top of Shadow's head, as he laps at the tuna still on the plate.
By the time Shadow's done eating, his little belly has rounded, and he climbs into Sam's lap as he continues researching, making lists of what he'll need to buy, and even starts looking into the local vets. He's glad he told Dean that he would stay behind when Jody called for backup on a case, he won't have to explain why he's suddenly bringing in loads of pet supplies.
He decides to bring the kitten with him to the pet store, figuring the workers may be more equipped with helping him get the right products to make sure Shadow is getting proper nutrition. The kitten curiously inspects the car when Sam sets him down inside, sniffing loudly and even pawing at the dangling keys as Sam starts the engine. Shadow eventually settles on his lap, quietly napping as Sam makes his way into town.
He pulls up to the pet store, and makes the realization that he has nothing to keep Shadow in while they buy supplies. He supposes that he could just carry the kitten, he only weighs a few pounds, if that, and he wasn't too squirmy, and figures that's his best option. The young girls are immediately in awe when Sam walks in with Shadow, the kitten letting out the tiniest of meows, clearly trying to bring even more attention to the pair.
He doesn't even know where to begin. Food he rationalizes is probably the best place, Shadow, as much as he seemed to enjoy the tuna, probably needs something with more nutrition, and Sam remembers one search telling that abandoned kittens, especially those who are extremely young, need formula. Sam stands in the aisle, overwhelmed by the choices, until a woman closer to his age sees the confused look on his face.
"You need some help?" Heather, the tag on her shirt reads, and Sam turns to show her Shadow, and proceeds to go on for nearly five minutes about how he found the kitten and doesn't know the first thing about taking care of a cat. When he finally takes a breath, Heather chuckles slightly, before showing him the basics. She gets him a small buggy, and helps him start to fill it. Formula and a syringe to feed him, wet food, dry food, food bowl, a fancy water bowl with a filter, a flea and tick bath after Sam tells her that as far he knows the kitten's only ever lived outside. She suggests gently wiping his eyes until a vet appointment can be made, and even gives Sam the local vets number.
They get to the section Sam was dreading most, litter boxes. Heather tells Sam that most kittens don't need much training to use the box, but expect a few accidents, especially once confirming that Shadow is, in fact, a boy. Heather then leads him to the toy sections, pointing out cat trees and other things that Shadow might have fun playing with. she even suggests that if Sam wanted to put in the time and effort, he could even train the kitten to eventually go on walks, though he thinks that may be a little too much.
By the time they're done, his cart is full, and Shadow has migrated from the crook of his arm, to being perched on Sam's shoulder, or at least he was until he lost his balance and made – what Sam felt had to be a terrifying for the kitten (and not for him) – six foot drop to the floor. Shadow just looked up at him and meowed  as if he was saying "I'm okay!" The girl behind the checkout counter struggled to suppress her laugh as Sam coddled the kitten, shushing him and giving him soft pets, almost like he was calming an upset child.
Heather assures him that Shadow will be fine, that young kittens are a little wobbly on their feet and falls are going to happen. Sam offers a half smile to the girl behind the counter, making her blush, as he continues to fuss over the kitten.
An hour later, Sam's set up a cat tree in one corner of his room, a litter box in the other, and gave Shadow a bath. The kitten was skinnier than he thought, and he wondered how long he'd been alone outside. Sam rummages through the bag to find the kitten formula, Heather suggesting that he could use it to supplement Shadow's diet between portions of wet food. He carefully mixes everything together, and grabs a small bottle, and Shadow immediately takes it, suckling down the whole thing in only a matter of minutes.
That night, Shadow ignores the plush bed Sam bought for him, opting to lie down so that his head rested on Sam's shoulder, kneading him gently and purring loudly.
By the time Dean returns, Sam has unfortunately forgotten that his brother doesn't know about the kitten until he starts sneezing every five minutes.
"I thought you were going clean, Sam," Dean grumbles between sneezes. He had cleaned, but then Shadow decided to escape Sam's room, and honestly, it's a miracle Sam found him.
"I heard the pollen is really bad this time of year," Sam says, hoping that Dean will buy that it's something that he carried from Sioux Falls and not the kitten stashed away in his room. "Maybe you should wash all of your things again and see if that helps?"
"I was in Baby for 5 hours and didn't sneeze once, Sam. In fact, I felt fine until I walked into the library," Sam mentally berates himself, he and Shadow spent practically the whole day in the library yesterday. Shadow explored every inch, and even laid down on the table while Sam did research.
Another week goes by, and Sam, unbeknownst to Dean, had been slipping Benadryl into Dean’s eggs. Sam did his research, certain pet allergies can lessen or even go away once a person has had enough exposure (and he figures a few anti-allergens couldn’t hurt). Sam even lets Shadow roll around on one of Dean’s shirts when he’s gone. Sam hates keeping Shadow locked away but until he can acclimate Dean to the idea of a cat in the bunker, but until then, it’s Sam’s room only.
Dean’s been acting strange, Sam’s noticed over the last few weeks. Suddenly buying cans upon cans of Tuna, something Sam knows he hates. Sam never sees the tuna being eaten, and yet one by one the cans disappear. Maybe he’s sneaking into Sam’s room and feeding Shadow when Sam’s not around? Maybe this is Dean’s way of telling him that he’s figured out about Shadow, but is too stubborn to say anything. After a second shopping trip, again returning with an obscene amount of tuna, Sam decides to call his bluff.
“Here,” Sam slides the tuna sandwich over to Dean. “I always thought you hated tuna, but you’ve been getting so much of it lately, I must’ve been wrong all these years.” Dean eyes the sandwich warily, they both know the only thing he hates more than tuna is turkey bacon, and Sam’s sure that he would rather eat that than admit that he knows and has been taking care of the kitten in Sam’s room.
“I’m good,” Dean excuses, though they both know there’s only one way out of this particular situation. “I just– I figured it’d be good to have more shelf-stable food around here. Never know when the fridge could break or the power could go down…”
Sam chokes back a laugh, the greatest minds in the world built the bunker, it was dormant for over 50 years and everything worked just as it should. They barely even understood how they got power, water, Sam’s still not entirely sure how the wifi worked there.
“So if we somehow lost power, you’d be willing to eat tuna everyday until we eventually die?” Sam asks skeptically. “Admit it Dean, you bought these for Shadow.”
“You know about Shadow?” Dean asks, confusion laced in his voice.
“Of course I know about Shadow! He’s sleeping in my room right now.”
“Um, no,” Dean’s brow furrows, “he’s in my room, waiting for his lunch.”
Had Dean actually been sneaking Shadow out of his room to secretly feed the kitten? Did he think that Sam wasn’t feeding him enough? But if Shadow was getting twice the amount of meals, he should be putting on more weight. Dean gestures for Sam to follow him, scraping the tuna off the bread, and into a bowl. Sam rolls his eyes and follows behind Dean, waiting impatiently for him to open his bedroom door, and free Sam’s kitten.
When Dean opens the door, the sight on the bed surprises Sam. There is a kitten sitting on Dean’s pillow that looks nearly identical to Shadow, but Sam’s spent enough time with his kitten to know that this one isn’t his. Dark fluffy fur, but the giveaway is this kitten has golden eyes as opposed to Shadow’s green ones. They must be siblings, and a pang of guilt fills Sam; he should’ve looked harder, but there were no signs of a mama or other kittens.
“I found him outside a week ago, figured that we could give him a home. Just been trying to find a way to see if it was okay with you.” Dean picks up the scrawny kitten, who lets out a high pitched meow. “I couldn’t get him to eat anything, so the girl at the pet store suggested tuna.”
“That’s not Shadow,” he states dumbly, unsure of what else to say. Dean looks at him curiously before Sam makes his way to his own room, Dean following closely behind him with his own kitten. Shadow is sitting on the edge of Sam’s bed when he enters, something he loves, knowing that he seems to recognize his footsteps. “This is Shadow,” Sam states as Dean walks in.
“I knew you were hiding something in here!” Dean accuses. “You know I’m allergic to cats, Sam! I could’ve died!” Sam can’t help but laugh, clearly Dean had forgotten that he was also hiding a cat, and was even at that moment, holding a cat in his arm.
“Yeah, your life has clearly been in danger this whole time,” Sam chortles. Shadow jumps down from the bed, landing with a soft thump and umph, and Dean’s Shadow squirms in his arms. He wriggles around until Dean finally lets him down, and the two brothers immediately begin to play– one Shadow chasing the other Shadow around.
“Well, one of us is going to have to change their cat’s name,” Dean states matter-of-factly. “We can’t both have kitten’s named ‘Shadow.’ I’m the oldest, so my Shadow keeps his name.”
After three rounds of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Dean concedes to changing his Shadow’s name. An argument ensues when Dean picks a new name. He, like Sam, hadn’t given much thought to a name outside of Shadow. Dean even tries to compromise that they both change their respective kitten’s name, but Sam refuses. He’s had his kitten much longer, and his Shadow has already begun responding to his name. As the kittens settle down, curling into each other, Dean announces that his kitten will become Shadow II.
Sam rolls his eyes, but accepts the new name. As the kittens drift off, Dean makes a comment that takes Sam by surprise, “do y’think there’s more out there?”
(..i ended up talking A Lot so please sleep and take however much time you need before looking at this since i know it’s pretty late for you..anyway!)
you mentioned earlier (and thank you for answering!!) that you had never seen a production of sweeney todd in which case i wish you couldve seen the production i went to in the summer it was really good…..i do have..some issues with the way it was adapted into a movie by tim burton, as is kind of the case unfortunately with sondheim musicals when they get adapted into movies, they tend to kind of be stripped of their charm and comedy and played almost completely straight (the into the woods movie…i wont start cause ill never shut up but its….euuuu……)
and though i think as a movie musical the burton version of sweeney todd is actually a rather good adaptation, the way the story is presented in the medium it was written for will always be the better version to me, since not all elements of theatre translate very well into film….one thing kind of apparent especially if you compare the 1982 version (which is my favourite) and the burton movie, the actors on screen have to compensate for the fact that the camera is capturing their every movement up close, so their performances have to be very restrained, and Burton focuses much more on atmosphere rather than crazy movements and gestures and facial expressions - which i think was a good decision, though it does kinda lose a bit of its i guess. original charm, since sweeney todd is Supposed to be a dark comedy, like, the theatre version is really really funny…..
uhh. I didn’t quite know where I was going with this but yeah the original ST musical is supposed to be more of a dark comedy than just. plainly dark like the burton film (though it does still keep some of comedy beats which is nice) and well some bits of the musical are supposed to be..i guess critique? or satire? one of the two of yknow the typical love story with Johanna in the role of the typical ingenue except she’s kind of lost it a bit so she’s not as “pure” as they’re supposed to be and only really “falls in love” with Anthony and decides to go off with him since it’s the only way she can see to get away from her creepy “father” who wants to marry her at 16..
anyway anyway what i meant to say was as a really really good example of epiphany and the whole 4th wall breaking, I think George Hearn is probably the best sweeney at this in my opinion since he really does just pull of the role of the cynical kind of deranged man super well (angela lansbury is great as ms lovett too she’s so funny & it’s kind of unfair to compare bonham carter to her when it’s well. Angela Lansbury…) ..there’s a recording on yt taken from the dvd version of the 1982 production which i recommend!!
uhhh… sorry for rambling so much i have a lot of thoughts about a lot things…….have a good night and sleep well!!!
Dont apologize, this was very lovely to read! Im a casual sweeney todd fan so i didnt know about the 1982 production on youtube, thank you for telling me about it! And the analysis of adapting the stage show for the screens, i love how passionate you are. I hope this doesnt sound fake, i do mean it honestly
Okay. Byler discussion ahead.
I’m going to give the Duffer brothers the benefit of the doubt (even though they’ve done nothing to deserve it. They quite literally made the only canon lesbian in love with a very unimpressive side character with no personality other than what robins personality is, killed an incredibly queer coded man -even though it made no sense- for shits and gigs, and took the other queer man and made him only suffer for four seasons because queer people cant be happy). So I will be playing devils advocate a tiny bit. The build up for Byler in the entirety of the show, especially in season 4, was just kind of thrown away in vol 2. The only way they could salvage it is by making Byler explicitly canon in season 5.
For a minute lets talk about the build up I’m referring to. Will Byers and Mike Wheeler met in Kindergarten on a swing set and became instant friends. A detail they pay specific attention to. A detail they deemed so important that its the memory Mike used to try and reach Will when he was possessed by the Mind Flayer. Mike even claimed it was the best decision he ever made. Again when Will lost his memory he could still easily say “thats my friend Mike”. Also not to mention the whole lets go crazy together vow in Mike’s basement (i think thats where it was?? Idk I’m going off of memory here). Mike and Will are the only ones out of the original Party to have these moments. Then in season 3 Mike starts becoming a complete ass towards Will??? Which did not make sense based on Mike’s previous actions. Then Will and Mike get into an argument where Mike says and I quote “its not my fault you don’t like girls”. Now what the hell boy. Where did that come from? It would’ve made more sense for him to say “I’m sorry you don’t have a girlfriend!” or “its not my fault you don’t have a girlfriend”. That alone implies so many things. Then in season 4 we have Mike acting strange and overall just kinda avoiding Will. Which is unusual because visiting your best friend should cause more enthusiasm. Unless you have repressed feelings toward said best friend and you also have to be around your girlfriend while dealing with those feelings. He probably feels guilty for his feelings and is avoiding Will in favor of giving El attention because it makes him feel more “normal” (not gay). But Mike is aware he doesn’t love El because he can’t even bring himself to write it let alone say it. Why do you have such a hard time saying you love your girlfriend of multiple years when you’ve already told her? Then we have the longing stares and the tender emotional music. And the talk about opening up and feeling afraid between Mike and Will. Then in volume two we have Will telling Mike how wanted and loved he is by “El” (actually just him. It was so obviously not about El even my catholic father noted that Will is in love with Mike).
But nope! The Duffer brothers decided that the reason Mike can’t say I love you is because he’s afraid of losing her (how does that make sense in any way shape or form). Oh and the reason he’s being an asshole to Will is because Mike decided to be an asshole one day.
Buuuut, if they have a confession scene this could all come together. Mike and someone arguing and he just lets it all spill including his feelings towards Will. Mike breaks up with El probably with the encouragement of Nancy or whoever he spilled to. We have a confession between Will and Mike both and they get together. Im really hoping this is what they had in mind all along. All fixed.
I feel so bad. A terrible horrible person. And a jerk.
I’ve been with my boyfriend a few months short of a year and for a while I’ve been struggling with how I actually feel about him and our relationship thinking that maybe I’m losing feelings for him. All for me to figure out today that I’m definitely Quoiromantic and maybe never had romantic feelings for him ever???? But idk cause wtf are romantic feelings anyways. But it literally explains so much. I struggled a lot at the beginning of our relationship and almost broke up with him a few times cause of being unsure (literally a giant flag I ignored) and then ya know we kiss and cuddle and I really enjoy that most of the time so I was like no you’re being crazy you obviously like him romantically. BUT NOW ITS LIKE “okay maybe that was never romantic and it was sensual??” So now it’s like do I tell my boyfriend? I feel like I have to cause I’m still struggling and he should probably know but also I feel terrible because I know how he feels about me and I know he’ll be absolutely devastated to hear that I probably never liked him romantically but I guess we’ll never know for sure cause I can’t really tell. He was already a little upset after finding out I was ace. I mean he was extremely supportive but the more he thought about it the more it was like “oh…she doesn’t like me like that.” Which sucks it all sucks. He’s so sweet and caring and I love his family so much but now…this.😕
OK so let's break this down a bit. First of all, you're not a jerk. You're someone who's been figuring themselves out. A lot of people get into relationships before they've figured out their identity, that happens. And sometimes these things affect the relationship, sometimes they don't.
The first question I'd ask you to consider is how do you personally feel about this relationship? Now that you know you're quoiromantic, is this romantic relationship something you still want?
If this is a relationship you want to stay in if you can, remember that attraction feelings are just feelings. They're not the things that really matter in relationships, like how much you care about your partner, how supportive you are of each other, respecting one another, etc. You are allowed to want to be in this relationship if you want to be, even if you don't know if these feelings are or were romantic or not, because that's not the part that matters.
On the other side of things it's OK if you don't want to be, anymore. Or if the relationship as it is right now doesn't feel right to you.
These are feelings I'd recommend figuring out before talking to your boyfriend, and this isn't keeping things from him, it's more making sure when you do talk to him that you have direction and you know where you want to go with that conversation.
Coming out is a personal decision, though a lot of people do feel like it's important that their partner know their identity and understand them. Unfortunately it is impossible to know how someone's going to react. Some people are very accepting right off the bat, some aren't. A lot of people need time to think about things and process things, and they may not know what they want either right away. The best thing you can do I think is be clear, get out what you feel is important and don't worry about being awkward or anything like that. Sometimes asking them to ask questions or give their thoughts afterwards can also help them process in the moment and make sure there aren't any misunderstandings.
My biggest advice here is to take your time. Give yourself a bit of breathing room. And trust however things go, in the long term, you'll be alright.
All the best, and good luck!
Kanaya: Reply to memo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Author commentary:
"IT TURNS OUT YOU CAN'T ALTER THE OUTCOME OF DECISIONS MADE BY MORONS, NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU YELL AT THEM.” Not to get overly political down here in the laugh gutter. This just sounds like the tagline for the result of the 2016 U.S. election.
When Current Karkat actually starts arguing with Current Karkat, not only did he not notice he was doing it, I think it's safe to say that even we didn't notice he was doing it. A lot of arguments he has with other versions of himself are hard to differentiate, because it's always gray text, and it's always yelling. It blurs together. Much later, he "solves" this problem by switching to red for a bit, during one of his more pathetic conversational loops of self-hate. A little further down he starts wondering what they did wrong in the session. Which, as I was saying earlier, is not really anything, and he kind of almost has that epiphany here. But then loses that epiphany once he discovers the humans, decides to hate them with a refreshed sense of rage, and starts blaming all the wrong things again for their failure, including himself. It's almost like he gains clarity in his rage gaps. When one fog of rage subsides, he starts seeing things clearly, but that all goes away the moment he enters a new fog of rage. Regardless, we're getting close to the end of Hivebent now, and you can kind of start sensing this wildly fractured, manic narrative start to gather itself and point itself back in the direction of where we left off. The new hate-hobby Karkat discovers, of course, we know to be the humans.
This is also the first time in Hivebent when we spend any real time tuning into a part that takes place on the meteor they end up stranded on after whatever catastrophe causes them to flee there. For all the zipping up and down the timeline we do, we never actually go that far until now. Again, it's about starting to gather up and organize all these loose threads and direct them back into something we recognize as connecting to the main narrative line. Even when certain stories or arcs are really chaotic and wildly out of order, I think most of us have good intuitions when it comes to picking up on when a story is making moves in preparation for the approach to its own endgame material. This memo starts feeling like that turning point. You've also got Kanaya weighing in, playing the role of a sort of wise, sympathetic ear to a down-and-out protagonist. You know That Moment in the movie. We all do. We're all experts. Homestuck knows you're a media expert and uses that assumption to its "advantage" all the time. The only time it backfires is when it turns out you're nowhere near the expert I thought you were. You know those moments when you see me shaking my head in grave disappointment? That's why I'm doing that, FYI.
Karkat suggests Aradia isn't a great Maid of Time. I dunno about that. She time traveled to make a thousand doomed robotic copies of herself to help defeat a crazy-strong Black King. Seems pretty good to me. He's probably remarking more on her mental stability than her competence. Of course what's really going on here, story-wise, is that he's foreshadowing her violent freakout in the End-of-Hivebent animation coming up soon.
Karkat mentions here an "invisible riddler." This is an idea that comes up from time to time throughout the story. Recall the "unseen riddler" in the narration during John's early animation, when he's listening to the wind in his neighborhood. It conjures the idea of a hidden Loki-like figure somewhere, whose pranks have nihilistic designs, an intangible force of mischief that robs its targets of a meaningful or dignified existence. In John's case, the nihilistic rumination about this figure seems to focus on the shapeless and uncertain direction of his life. Karkat's remark here focuses on the futility and self-fulfillment of one's own foolishness, passively allowed to play itself out by this prankster figure, who he links to "Father Time" as well. There is no one true god of Paradox Space, but to whatever extent there is, it's probably this riddler figure, which is why it's left in doubt as to whether he even exists at all. He's never discussed without also referencing his invisibility, or dubious reality. A much less cagey explanation is, it's probably best interpreted as the forces of mischief and authorial cruelty or callousness toward the subjects within this fiction, which are laced into the entire narrative and relate closely to the quality of "authorial scorn" that was mentioned earlier in some of the Vriska meta. When galvanized through more extreme figures like Caliborn, these forces become less passively nihilistic and prankstery, and more actively hostile and destructive.
That Kanaya has trouble imagining how Karkat could have a strong handle on the subject of romance without access to an online manual (like her access to Rose's walkthrough) says something about the way she thinks, and views skill or expertise. Here she says romance and psychology aren't her strong suits, and a couple pages ago she was expressing doubts about her role as a Space player. Some characters struggle with self-loathing issues (she's talking to one of them now), but she seems especially troubled by self-doubt issues. Maybe this is why these two resonate as friends so well. One is there to reassure him he is not loathsome, the other to reassure her she is not incompetent. We've been over Kanaya's role as a mother figure to a bunch of people, and it helps for a good mother figure to have a good son figure as a counterpoint, a son who's there to remind her, "No, you're not bad at this. Stop it with that talk."
Karkat's dissertation on magic is a pretty good summary of the ongoing tension between the realness/fakeness attribute of magic throughout the story. We get pretty flippant about magic in Homestuck, don't we? It's just a word you can use to describe certain forces, in the same way that you can use the word "luck" to evaluate certain outcomes, if you're fixated on that concept. This isn't really mind-blowing wisdom here. I'd describe it more as premise-level information, upon which the story elaborates in certain ways. Magic and luck are more like states of mind. If there is any deeper truth to sift from these semantics, it's an idea that the story keeps returning to, which is that the power of belief is the key to everything. Believing in things reduces their fakeness attribute. It's the force that shapes your reality, used to snatch personal meaning from the jaws of a cynical and nihilistic environment. Could this be why Hope is framed as the most fundamentally powerful aspect? Even the other aspects themselves are ideas like this (recall: luck=light), whose power is subject to the ebb and flow of one's belief in them. And belief itself isn't necessarily just a trick of willpower. It can be an expression of one's willingness to embrace an idea, or pursue a deeper understanding of it.
Obviously Karkat is reacting to the moment Kanaya saws off Tavros's legs, while Equius watches creepily. We saw one frame of that earlier. Yes, it's a funny beat in the conversation that calls back to that moment, but it also establishes an important hour of missing time for Karkat while he's passed out. This gap where he's asleep on the floor comes up again later in Act 5. The second part of Act 5 does a lot of what Hivebent does. Where Hivebent skips around, chaotically fitting together the greater puzzle of the troll session until we finally reach the end, A5A2 skips around a lot, fitting together the puzzle of their stay on the meteor and sorting through the mystery of exactly what happens and when. So there starts to be an accounting of many little moments like this, to use as points of reference for when certain things are happening. "Aradiabot explodes" is another such benchmark for the reader to use to track surrounding events. Interestingly (maybe), Karkat uses this idea too, by setting "Jade's dreambot explodes" as a similar benchmark to help Jade get her bearings through a nonlinear swamp of communications.
It all happened in the blink of an eye — things had gone from good to bad, and then all the way to terrible in just a matter of minutes. Seconds, even. Michael had been in a rather calm place recently. He was making more and more progress, his behavior towards Tommy a complete difference from their first reintroduction. But he never mentioned that he talked to Laurie - he rarely mentioned the man’s sister at all in presence in fear of triggering something within him. Reuniting them was something he was interested in doing, but he knew it wasn’t something that could happen right away. Michael still needed a little time, a little more work on his emotions before he would be able to have a conversation with Laurie that wouldn’t turn violent — as proven by the wound he sported on his arm.
He barely had time to think before he was in front of the knife. He thought he would have a chance to hold his arm back before he caused any damage, but he underestimated Michael’s strength. And now he was paying for it. “I know, I know. I just thought I could stop him, at least enough to try and calm him down.” A light shrug rolled off his shoulders, though his arm immediately regretted the decision. He looked from the bandage back to Laurie, eyes widening the slightest bit at the mention of a gun. “He hasn’t been like that, I swear.” And it was the truth. Aside from his most recent wound, he was only left with one other faint scar on his other arm from when Michael first found them - and a bite mark on one of his shoulders, but he doubted Laurie was interested in its origin.
Tumblr media
“I probably am crazy for doing all of this. But if it makes some sort of difference - even just for him - then it’ll be worth it. This wasn’t good, but he’ll come back. — Steven’s here, he has to.”
I really struggle to understand the girls who are discontent in singleness. It's never made sense to me, and even after getting so close to marriage I could taste it, I still don't understand it.
This must sound crazy from a girl who at the beginning of the year was engaged to a man I care a lot for. And even crazier when you know that ended with the month of March.
But it's true. I've gone back to being content in singleness. Do I miss the man I spent a year loving? Yes. He's still my friend.
And I'm good to stay in the present of my life right now rather than holding onto regrets of the past or an uncertain version of the future.
When people bring up being discontent to be single, I just don't understand. You have this wonderful opportunity to do so much that is important.
To make solid friendships without having to worry about balancing the hours you spend with a boyfriend. And that network of friends is vital so that you don't burn your boyfriend out by only talking about your problems with him. You need support from all sides, not just one.
To make decisions about your growth. Where to work and how much. What time you have to volunteer at church. The freedom to change churches or pursue a new career in a new town. The freedom to focus on growing your relationship with God without worrying how your failures impact a boyfriend.
To become the wife you want to be, the mom you want to be, the person you want to be. To get as far on growing those areas as you can before your fear and selfishness causes heartache for other people. Because that heartache will come. But the more you fill yourself with Christ and empty yourself of pride, the easier and fewer those instances will be.
Wives in your church who are older than you have probably told you this, "you never get your single years with God back." Well I'm not married but I got really close, and so far as I can see, that tracks. Your relationship with God will still grow in a relationship... but what I'm saying is you won't be able to focus as closely on it when you are in a relationship.
And remember: God is NEVER late. He knows exactly how long He needs you unmarried to make you into the person your husband and children will need. You HAVE to live in the context He has you in NOW instead of living for pining. Because that's a breeding ground for discontentment and it will kill your gratitude like nothing else.
I guess I just don't understand why you would wish away years of your life just because you want a family right now. Your single time is valuable, even if it's lonely. So lean into God and the fellowship of His church to stem that loneliness, rather than pinning its amelioration on a future you're always daydreaming about. And as you prove yourself to be a woman of God... Well, I'll let you fill in that blank.
So yeah. I'm not the best person to complain about singleness to XD I'm content with it and I've never experienced the longing for a wedding and kids like so many other girls do. But maybe that can help me to have a bit of perspective on the good side of singleness rather than everyone focusing on the bad parts.
