Episode 16 in which Mac and Donna received more of Kristen’s school info is further proof to me that she needs some kind of emancipation so she’s able to appoint someone to have power of attorney in an emergency. (I imagine Jawbone or Sandra Lynn.) Mac and Donna have parental rights including legal issues, medical decisions and school enrolment. At any point they could pull Kristen from Aguefort and enroll her at Mumple or Sun Peak. And she wouldn’t have any recourse.

She needs to go to Sklonda and ask her to file a petition for emancipation with the court. She isn’t living with her parents, she has a job as an adventurer (they get to keep the loot) and it is in her best interest—her parents and her have irreconcilable religious differences and they kicked her out over it. A judge would sign a court order Declaration of Emancipation (following California law since D20 is filmed there) and she’d have the legal rights to control her own life.

Alternatively I’m sure they could petition the court to appoint a temporary guardian for Kristen for the short amount of time before she turns 18. It’d probably require proof that it’s necessary and a volunteer—which would be Jawbone and/or Sandra Lynn, since they’re already functioning in that capacity. (I’m sure Child Protective Services would also be involved.)

As a minor with a dangerous job, different religious beliefs, values and a sexuality her parents don’t accept, she needs to not be legally involved with Mac and Donna. If she wants to reconcile with them that’s her choice but that shouldn’t stop her from being legally safe from them and the choices they’d make on her behalf.

oh nothing im just thinking about how kristen moved to mordred manor with tracker and lives there but she hasnt been adopted by either sandralynn or jawbone but she does talk to jawbone and see him as some sort of… guiding figure.

kristen who once lived in a very close knit stereotypical religious family and then was some combo of cast out and walked away from it.

and yes a family can be your werewolf guidance counsellor, your friend who he adopted, his werewolf niece who is your girlfriend, and your other friend whose mom is dating your guidance counsellor. and also ragh and lydia barkrock and your friend’s ex-villain sister. but like does she lie awake at night and think about her brothers who she left money for? or her parents who she thought loved her until they suddenly didn’t?

what im trying to say is that families man. bio families and families of choice and loneliness and abandonment issues and emotional dependency (bec lets be real in the live show i was truly worried about kristen while tracker was gone on a level that is comparable to my worry over my irl friends) and filling those holes inside yourself because we are all just swiss cheese my man

do you ever think about how Kristen's crisis of faith in helio was triggered not only by her meeting helio at the gates and him sucking ass, but also how she died being his chosen one and when she let aguefort usurp his power she lived? how she would have realised that the man who brought her back to life wasn't her god but just someone who thought she and her friends were cool? do you think about Bobby Dawn talking about how it was her path but all clerics of helio are watched over by an uncaring frat bro who lets them die? do you think about the corn cuties and ooze killing her, literally the symbol of her faith destroying her? do you think about how she brought herself back from the dead and made her own god forged from her doubt so that anyone forced into her position could seek solace in the cool hands of questioning everything?

I'm still not convinced that Brennan would make the BBEG of the season a group of literal children, which leaves space for my next theory: The true (and much sadder) reason none of the Rat Grinders were at Frosty Fair is because they just...didn't care that Ruben was performing. Because they aren't actually his friends

Good things: I've been invited to partake in a certain exhibit regarding a certain author since I've had the privilege of illustrating the covers for the UK edition of a certain fantasy series.

Not so good things: I've lost most of the scans for the 8 illustrations (I think I only have 3? 4?) so that means I need to figure out WHERE I stashed the originals. I know I HAVE them, so that's some comfort. But I have so many stashes. And it's been... 10+ years and two moves. On top of that, they may need retouching. Fun times!

A minor "conundrum": I finally need to decide where I would like to offer said illustrations for print. I have a society6, but it is rather dusty these days. That aside, the print quality seems pretty decent (I have not seen with my own actual eyes, but considering I've yet to hear otherwise, I'd say they go over well.) That said, if anyone has opinions/experiences on print on demand storefronts, I'd love to hear them. I'll say in advance I would prefer to not handle printing them myself. If you know, you know.
