One of my favorite things about being in my early 20s is that I'm starting to understand that I can use things not for their intended purpose. When you're growing up, you get told what an object is and what its intended purpose is, and as a kid/teen, I just accepted all of it at face value. As a young adult it's finally clicking that I can simply do things a different way if it makes me happier. Sure, I was taught that you stand to take a shower, but there's nothing stopping me from just sitting if I don't feel like it, ya know? I might have always had my medication in the kitchen, but if I'm no longer remembering to take it, I can just move it somewhere where I can remember. You don't have to specifically store all food in the kitchen, you can have a little snack cart or snack station in another room.
The downside to finding out the various ways you can use objects is that you develop habits that would probably go on an r/relationships post where everyone says you're a little freak.
#simon says#i just developed a new habit (it's too tmi to put here) and I just know that it's some weird shit#it works and it makes me feel better so I'm gonna keep doing it#but it's some shit that would end up viral where everyone would go 'yo op you should break up with them thats weird' 😔#i was just thinking about this though because every week or so I learn that I can just do what I want#because there's no fucking object use police I can do what I want#i HIGHLY suggest getting into this habit. if you find something annoying or frustrating you can just do it differently#'I hate washing the dishes because my legs hurt from standing for so long' you can bring a chair and sit or you can break it up into chunks#like on the one hand I'm learning this because I have autism and a plethora of other mental disorders#and it's FINALLY clicking that I can self accommodate whenever and however I so please#I'm just sorta learning that if doing something makes me feel better/happy/gets the job done to do that thing#even if it requires using an object in an odd way#hell there's even some little things I've been playing with#for example: my whole life we sorta just lifted blinds only about halfway up#just sorta how we did it ya know#well recently I decided I wanted more natural light in the sunroom/my office so I wouldn't have to turn on the lamp#and I lifted the blinds all the way up to the very top#and honestly?? it fucking rules. the room looks nicer; i get natural light; i can see the forest out back and it's quite calming and nice#like for ages I just never thought about doing that because it just never occurred to me that I could#i just always put blinds about halfway up because that's about how high blinds do in my household#another little one I learned is that I can just... wash my hair#sometimes when I get too depressed or if my body doesn't need a shower but my hair is greasy#I just shove my head under the bathtub facet and wash my hair#it's just a small thing but for years if my hair needed to be washed I would just take a full shower#now I just fix my greasy hair. bc greasy hair is a huge ick for me but sometimes my body is still clean or im too tired to fully shower#like there's nothing stopping me from doing that and it doesn't hurt anyone. it's just a way of bathing that I wasn't taught#but yeah those are some recent examples of me learning I can just... do stuff differently#the free will is kicking in babes and it has decided I love finding ways to use things differently#it's why im doing a bg3 run where I just press loot all no matter what and use whatever I can in odd ways#anyways I might delete this later might not who knows

The Best Intentions - Part 5
TO: .lindberg@StockholmOpera. se                      21:15 pm 2 attachments
Froken Lindberg,
No need for apologies, and there is no need for me to hunt down and behead the sobriqueted “Stanley,” (whose name is actually Mickhail) I’m sure. Be assured that he will still have a job come tomorrow and for a long time to come after that.
I don’t withhold my email address from my clients, and I do pride myself on an open-door policy – generally. Mick, however, knows that today was my first day back on the job, and he was being the overprotective security associate that I pay him quite handsomely to be.
I enclose with this email the fruit of my labours from this afternoon and this evening. The enclosure is a work schedule and Gantt chart for the full gamut of repairs to the Opera House - the sprinkler system, the drywall, the wood floor of the orchestra pit, etcetera. I have coordinated this with my subcontractors and suppliers and it is accurate. You may rely upon this to schedule your rehearsals, etc., for the next few weeks.
The second attachment is perhaps an addendum to the one you sent me. It is a cost breakdown, estimate, and proposal for the little theatre space. With the funds from the Gala, we will have the space renovated and ready to use within a year.
All that aside, I’ve reviewed your proposal, and I found it interesting to say the least. You have covered all of the terms we discussed today and then some. I would, however, like to discuss some of these terms further before we enter into anything formal; and once that is done I would like to have my legal department place their stamp upon it.
I welcome the opportunity to meet with you again regarding the little theatre space and the plans for the Gala. We can meet in my office, or we can continue these discussions over coffee at Sturekatten or a meal if you would rather. Contact me directly to arrange, please.
I am willing to provide for your every desire. Even those that, as you say, constitute the ravings of a lunatic. Which you are most definitely not.
– AGM
The soft unobtrusive ding for her email notifications sounded from her mobile. Joline flopped down on her bed, swinging her legs up. The pillow whooshed and wheezed under the weight of her head, the faint waft of her fabric softener tickling her nose. She used the softener on her pillowcases only because the smell soothed and helped her sleep.
Herr Martinsson’s email did not. Did quite the opposite, in fact.
She read over the first few paragraphs with a sense of encouragement. She owed Mick some raspberry licorice for the trouble she’d caused. She’d eagerly pounced on him in the carport after close of business. She couldn’t blame him for protecting his employer’s interests. She may have to dial back her overzealousness, but she’d never did things by half.
Jo’d pitched monthly inspections with the design staff beginning at the top of the season with a member of Martinsson Construction. The added layer of security prevented any other potential flooding sessions or bouts with the Prima Donna’s temper… well, for the dampness issue anyway. Katarina could rage against the costumers or musicians, as long and as hard as she cared to. Jo already felt better for it.
The dream for the little theatre space, all of it brilliant! She stopped short at responding to meet up with him now, that very evening. But eager Jo needed tempering. Pace yourself, Jo.
Until…
I am willing to provide for your every desire.
She read it, then stopped.
She reread it.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…
Her brain melted in her head and possibly oozed out of her ear onto her freshly cleaned cases. She crossed her legs subconsciously, squeezing her thighs together.
It’d been a handful of months since her last fling, and her lady parts were beginning to feel lonely.
For the theatre, Jo… for the theatre. Nothing more than that. For-the-theatre. Nothing more than client relations. Empty or half promises to maintain a working relationship. He offered it to protect his best interests, his company, his name, and his current project.
As the tingling in her lady parts subsided from the misread tease, Jo shoved her brain back between her ears.
TO: [email protected]                       21:30pm
Herr Martinsson-
You’re working late, I see. With impressive results, I should mention. I’m delighted by your offer and I look forward to your input. As you have work scheduled to begin this week (which is thrilling!), I’ll meet up with you for that coffee. Tomorrow? Name the time, I can accommodate any slot you have available.
I’ll make myself available to you.
Yours,
Joline Lindberg
The only thought in her head after putting her phone down was not of the theatre, or work orders, or repairs. She imagined what the G stood for in his initials, just to sate her curiosity.
Ansgar manipulated the mouse pointer over the red x in the upper left hand corner of his MacBook’s screen when his email dinged over. Curiosity, as it does, killed the cat, and so Ansgar opened the email with the time stamp of 9:30 pm from Joline Lindberg.
The last few sentences of her email appealed strongly to Ansgar’s filthy mind, his innate sense of and appreciation for innuendo. He wondered to himself, with a smirk and snigger, whether she’d meant it as such.
Hoped, maybe. No, hoped was too strong a word. Wondered. Contemplated. Contemplated those lips… that particular slot made available to me… clamped around my….
“Ah, screw it!” He groaned and scrubbed hard at his eyes, banishing the images, the very thought of it from his mind. “You are a fucking pervert, Martinsson.”
But the idea of at least a meeting over coffee… well, that was innocent enough, yes? No harm in it. After all, it was business, wasn’t it?
And so, instead of clicking the red x, he clicked ‘reply,’ rest his fingers on the keyboard, and with rapid-fire strokes, typed.
TO: [email protected]                      21:47 pm
Meet me for fika at Sturekatten. Riddargatan 4. 9 am. My table is in the far north corner of the cafe. Don’t be late.
Godnatt,
AGM
Joline leaned into the final curve of her journey from home to the cafe of Herr Martinsson’s choosing, weaving around a Volkswagen Bug. She took the turning faster than the Stockholm Police approved of, but she was addicted to the speed and power of her beloved motorcycle, a 1970 Triumph. A gift from her late father made her feel closer to him whenever she rode, the smell of it, the sound of it, the sight of it, all reminded her of him and flooded her mind with memories.
The machine purred to a stop when she pulled over near the entrance of Sturekatten, blessed to have found a spot to park. The natural high she got from riding set her blood vibrating and her ears buzzing with the roar even hours afterwards. Weekends and rare days off from work found her in the leather seat adding miles to the odometer. She kicked the stand into place, turned the key for the ignition and swung her right leg over the seat behind her in a well-choreographed, often-rehearsed move.
She lifted her safety helmet straight, shaking her head and hair free underneath in her best shampoo advert mimic. How fucking cliché, she thought, hating herself for doing it. Every damn time. She’d yet to find a way of releasing her hair from the thing without looking like an auditioning model. The helmet, a bright shade of purple that Jo wanted to dye her hair to match one day (when she opened her own indy theatre house), was tucked up under her arm.
Raking one hand through her locks, Joline strolled into the café ten minutes before her call time, scurrying to the back as instructed. She felt Ansgar Martinsson’s gaze on her from the moment she crossed the threshold, piercing blue with laser precision. If she didn’t know differently, she’d feel intimidated, but she had some leverage, some pull with him.
The man rose from his seated position as she approached. “Froken Lindberg.” He held out his hand to shake in greeting.
“Herr Martinsson,” she shook his hand. “Waiting long? Am I late? Nine, yes?” She glanced around at the mostly deserted café. Weekday in the city center, many were on their first cup of coffee for the day behind their desk at work. What patrons dined at the café sat in the courtyard in the summer sun.
He gestured into a chair across from where he’s been sitting, holding the back out for her. “No, not at all. Early in fact. Thank you for meeting me.”
Joline swiveled her head, her gaze following him to his seat across from her. She made a small huff of a laugh. “I didn’t think I could say no.”
“Pardon?”
She laughed, waving her hand to match her shaking head. “No offense intended. But you have this way—effective, mind you—you say something… and I feel compelled to do it. And I do! You issue an order, and I follow.”
A crooked half-smile pulled at his lips, “That’s quite a power you’ve bestowed upon me.”
She noticed that he didn’t apologize or deny it. “Usually when someone tells me to do something, my first instinct is always no.”
“But not with me…”
“Oh! Does this mean I’m growing as a person?” She feigned shock at her self-assessment with one hand over her heart and one splayed on the tabletop. When she played out her charade in dramatics, she looked up at him with a sage look in her eye. “In all seriousness, you’re the type to go after what he wants, and you usually get it.”
He leaned forward elbows on the table like a lion standing over his kingdom. “Why would I spend my time on things I don’t want?”
“Touche!”
“Pardon the cliche,” he cocked his head, “but isn’t that a bit of the pot calling the kettle black?” He lifted the coffee pot, offering her a cup with a flick of his eyebrows. “Shall I pour?”
“Oh, yes, please,” she replied, and pushed her cup forward. She took it back after he filled it, and took a sip.
“Sugar or cream? Milk?”
“Black,” she replied.
Ansgar nodded appreciatively, making a small clicking noise with his tongue. “Black it is. Enjoy.”
“Speaking of black,” she mused, “like the pot and the kettle, huh?”
“That’s as I see it.”
“Well,” she shrugged. “I suppose that’s true. But I don’t always get the things I want. There are a lot of things I’ve wanted that I haven’t been able to get.”
“Yet,” Ansgar interjected.
“Well, yeah. Maybe.” She sipped again, eyeing him over the rim. “Maybe.”
“You get the important things,” he challenged. “Like your job, like that enviable specimen of a 1970 Triumph TR6R Tiger you have parked outside.” He indicated out the window with a flick of his gaze, at the same time noting the impressed flash of her own eyes. “And that’s what matters. It’s not that you get everything you want, it’s that you get the things that are most important to you. And sometimes, with a little skill, and a little perseverance, you can get more.”
“Skill and perseverance… but not luck?”
He scoffed. “I don’t believe in luck.”
She looked back to him from out the window. “Life lessons of the day with Professor Martinsson?”
He continued, ignoring her quip. “But you also have to realise and understand that things you want and things you get can easily be lost. They can be stolen away, right from under your nose. What matters more than getting the things you want, Froken Lindberg, is keeping them, protecting them at all costs.”
“At all costs?”
He nodded. “At all costs.” The thumb of his left hand curled in, curving around the edge of the gold band on his ring finger. “Sometimes, even then, after you’ve spared no expense, after you’ve exhausted everything… those things you want can still be torn from you.”
She frowned, her eyes narrowing. “What are you getting at, Herr Martinsson?”
“Ansgar. Please,” he leaned back in his chair, gesturing. “Call me Ansgar.”
“Then you have to call me Joline. Or Jo for short. Everyone calls me Jo. Either way is fine with me.”
He nodded, smiling. “Joline it is, then.”
“So… Ansgar,” she tasted his name again in her mouth, and finding it palatable, continued. “What are you getting at with all this stuff about getting what you want and things?”
He sighed. “All I am saying, Joline, is that you have dreams. You have ideas, and I am here to help you, to work with you to achieve those dreams. But… it’s you, ultimately, who has the power to make them a reality or not. You have to know what is important, what to fight for, what to… kill for,” he paused for emphasis, “and what to let go. You have to have common sense and know-how enough to know when to fight, and when to walk away. I can’t do that for you… and I won’t.”
“I’m sure I would mostly fight,” she puffed. “I’m not one to lie down in the road, you know.”
He grinned, wide and Cheshire-like, his blue eyes sparkling. He took up his coffee, took a sip, and crossed his arms over his chest. “And that is exactly what I hoped you’d say.”
“So,” Joline said. “What about the proposals?”
Ansgar tipped his chin toward her, his mouth at the lip of his coffee cup. “Check your phone.” He took another sip. ”You should have signed copies in your email inbox right now. I had my legal department go over everything and they’ve approved it. My e-signature is on them, waiting for yours… partner.”
Jo gave him the skeptical side eye as she sidelined her coffee for her phone. Scanting her hips in her seat, she fiddled in her pocket to free her mobile. “Partner?” she repeated, still unable to believe it entirely. “You can’t be serious!”
Enjoying her incredulity, Ansgar grinned, all straight white teeth highlighted by a ginger goatee. “See for yourself.”
Jo unlocked her phone and quickly swiped to her one new email notification. The signed proposals and agreements landed in her inbox at 9:01am and it was like Christmas in August, signed by none other than AGM himself. “Holy shit,” she breathed out on an exaggerated exhale, forgetting her business persona in her disbelief.
It was all there, in PDF format, with electronic colored post-its for her to sign at the bottom, underneath Ansgar. A checklist roster. Weekly inspections. Schedule for the work on the main stage, beginning the very next day. Contracts for fund raisers and benefits, detailing that Martinsson Construction as lead sponsor. The tentative renovation for the little theatre. And her secret wish of a to-scale model of the Opera House constructed for the Stockholm museum, Ansgar approved her commission for it!
“I could kiss you,” she enthused half-meaning it and half-distracted by all the goodness in black and white. She recovered herself with a chuckle. “I won’t – because I’m a professional – but I could! And I’d mean it!”
“That won’t be necessary.” Not necessary, but tempting. The thought shimmied itself into his head like a can-can dancer. “What can I say, Joline,” he said a bit too boldly, sitting forward in his seat. “You impressed me… your panache, your bravado, your eager-to-please… attitude for the good of all the people… in your company.”
One hand landed on her head, disbelief colored her face in a flush of excitement. “I’m so glad that I didn’t say no.” She waved her phone, display towards her companion. “I may never say no… ever!”
Oh the possibilities in that!
She went back to flipping through the documents on her phone, one by one, marveling at the brilliance of each one. “Who knew my crusading would do this?”
“I suspect,” Ansgar stated bluntly, a teasing light in those piercing blue eyes, “you did. You don’t suffer fools gladly and it seems, you don’t take no for an answer either.”
With her phone away, she put her elbow on the table and shelved her chin in her palm. “So… uh… who do I have to kill?”
“Pardon me?”
“Who do I have to kill? You were flapping your gums and going on about fighting and killing for my dreams. You just handed me my dreams… over a cup of coffee. So… who do I have to kill?”
The laugh that barked from Ansgar’s mouth caught him off guard. He wasn’t nearly prepared for her to twist what he’d said so far… but he supposed that he deserved it. He held up both of his hands in surrender, “No one. At least not today.”
Giving into the contagion of laughter, she commented, “And the CEO takes a punt at the funny.”
“How did I do?”
She muted her voice to a stage whisper, “GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!!!”
He dipped his head in a bow and his gaze seemed to undress her from the waist up. “A successful business meeting. Are you overly attached to the idea of an omelette here?”
Joline didn’t mind the perusal, she indulged in her own. Answering his question, she shook her head, offering up something else instead, “Let’s top it all off.” She dangled the keys for her Triumph in front of him. “Got a helmet?”
“In the boot of my car.”
With a tip of her head, she encouraged, “You’ve been coveting my ride since I got here. I’ve got three hours before I have to be at work. So let’s go.” She pushed the keys at him. “You drive.”
Ansgar pushed to his feet and swiped the keys in a smooth move. He dumped enough money to cover their bill (and several others in the process). He strode for the door, leading Joline with a hand at the small of her back.
Feeling lighter than the helium balloon in her belly, Jo convinced herself that she knew what the G in his initials stood for: generous. But she also knew he’d never admit it.

Excuses
Phic Phight Prompt by @ave-aria
“In the wake of Phantom Planet, school resumes at Casper High. Lancer tries to collect homework assigned before the Disasteroid, but - of course - who does homework during the end of the world? Nobody, that's who.”
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
He was late. Again.
Lancer was surely going to kill him. He’d been late to school everyday last week and by now he could recognize that his first period teacher was getting annoyed. In addition to his horrible attendance, he hadn’t completed the assignment that was due today, but this time, he had a reasonable excuse.
Capping the thermos in his hand, he stuffed it into his purple backpack which slung loosely across his shoulder. He leaped into the air, setting off in an attempt to make it before his first class ended. Today, it had taken an abnormal amount of time to get Technus to surrender, considering he didn’t have Tuck and his PDA. But he had finally done it, and now he was late.
Soaring through the air with the minimal amount of energy he had after barely receiving any sleep last night, he headed in the direction of the only high school in miles.
Casper High was notorious for its constant claims of ghost infestations. Although other high schools ridiculed the institution for its absurd claims, the citizens of Amity Park knew the reality of it all. The students often received breaks because of the constant rebuilding required to fix the destruction ghost attacks posed. Unfortunately, today wasn’t one of those days.
He swiftly descended onto the the ground and landed on the stairs in front of the school. He dashed into the building, running as quick as he could while transforming. A ring of blue light fell from the top of his head all the way to his feet, leaving an alternate version of himself. His shoes skidded against the linoleum floor as he turned a corner. Running down the hall once again, he turned another corner and slammed into an unsuspecting figure.
“Sorry!” He yelped as he regained his composure and took off once again. He had run into Principal Ishiyama, who was left confused at his hasty appearance. She shouted after him, but Danny didn’t take the time to listen. He finally found the classroom door and quickly opened it.
xXxXxXxXxXxXxXx
The door swung open, interrupting Lancer and revealing a disarrayed teen. “Sorry I’m la-” Daniel replied in haste only to suddenly stop as he noticed the stares he was receiving. All of the students had their eyes on him. Looking back at everyone with a questioning glance, the boy shuffled into the classroom and closed the door behind him.
Although Lancer understood why people were staring at him, it felt odd that Daniel, an outcast, was being watched like a celebrity, which ironically, he was.
“It’s nice to see you Mr. Fenton.” Lancer greeted as the raven haired boy shuffled over to his desk at the back of the classroom. Everyone’s stares followed him as he sat down and placed his backpack on the ground. Just as the student sat down, a sudden explosion of voices from the others filled the previous silence. The cacophony of conversations prompted an annoyed Lancer to silence his students.
“Students, please be quiet.” Lancer said in an aggravated tone. “I understand that there are some matters from this weekend that you would like to discuss, and I will allow you to, once I’ve collected your assignments from Friday.”
His students eyes went wide as they realized they hadn’t done their homework. Even the smartest kids who usually had their homework completed weeks in advance had managed to completely forget about the assignment. Given the circumstances that the world had been in danger and was close to destruction, it felt fitting for the students to dismiss their assignments and only hope that a certain ghost boy could save their world.
“Please hand your assignments to the front of the classroom, and then we can continue with our plans.” Lancer said as he glanced around the classroom.
Nobody stood up.
The students looked around the class to see if anyone had completed the assignment, but no one had.
“Is there anybody who did the homework?” Lancer asked only to receive shaking heads in return. One student raised their hand.
“In our defense sir, we were in a global crisis. How could we have worked on our homework when the world was in danger?” said Mikey somewhat defiantly, unlike his usually introverted self. Another hand shot up.
“Like, it would have been impossible to do my homework when some giant asteroid was hurtling towards me.” Paulina said as she filed at her nails. Lancer swore he could hear Samantha mutter something along the lines of ‘not everything revolves around you Paulina’, leaving him battling to keep his smile from showing.
Lancer let out a sigh. How was he going to teach his class if no one had done the preparatory work for today’s lecture? After considering the situation for another minute, he decided to let it slide. He could adjust his teaching schedule to accommodate for one day.
“Alright fine. I’ll extend the date to tomorrow. Rest of the class is a free period. Please keep your conversations to a low volume.” Lancer instructed as he sat down in his desk chair. All the students turned backwards to face Daniel, some even moving their desks.
“Uh Fentur- I mean Fenton, is it true? Are you really Phantom?” Dash asked as he turned to face the raven haired boy. The question intrigued Lancer and he decided to listen in while simultaneously reading through his emails.
He had seen the news and the revelation as Phantom as his own student, Mr. Fenton. It had initially shocked him, how could one be a human and a ghost simultaneously? Was he even human? How had this come to be?
As he further pondered the questions, gears began to click as he recognized his obliviousness to this whole situation. How had he not noticed the student’s constant bathroom breaks and late attendances? The injuries he seemed to sustain after returning from said breaks? The daily uncompleted assignments? The lack of sleep he seemed to have?
The teacher had previously chalked it all up to bullying, as he had known Mr. Fenton was a common punching bag for the upperclassmen jocks. He knew it was wrong to not discipline the jocks for their disrespectful behavior, but they were considered the schools prized possession and on strict orders under principal Ishiyama to not be penalized for their misconduct. It frustrated Lancer, not being able to uphold his moral standards just because some school wanted to make money off of their students.
But he let it slide, only for the sake of not being fired. Any salary, even one as small as his, was necessary for his survival. At hearing the voice of his most reserved student, he was sucked out of his thoughts and brought back into reality.
“Well, uh… yeah I guess.” Daniel stuttered as he rubbed his neck with his hand. It was a common gesture that Lancer had caught on to over the years. The student used it whenever he felt shy, timid, or was bending the truth and making an excuse.
“Can you show us?! I wanna see the ghost boy!” Paulina practically screeched. She was the one who ran the Danny Phantom Fan Club, however despite her immense liking for the famous hero, she wasn’t the only one bouncing out of her seat in joy.
“Uh,.. I don’t know.” He said eyes shifting to the ground. It was obvious he wasn’t enjoying the attention from his fellow classmates. His best friend Tucker nudged his elbow in an attempt to get Daniel to continue. “Mr. Lancer, can I-?”
“Go ahead Daniel.” Lancer said as he nodded towards the boy. Daniel stared back in disbelief. It was obvious he didn’t want to transform into his alternate self so soon after his revelation, let alone in front of a group of his crazed fans. But he couldn’t say no to his classmates, especially with the approval of Lancer.
Sighing, the boy stood up and backed up near the wall. He looked around the class and suddenly two rings appeared at his waist. Lancer couldn’t remove his eyes from the spectacle. It was one thing seeing it on TV, but it was another to see it up close and personal.
One ring descended to his feet while the other rose to his hair, leaving the boy looking like an inverted version of himself. The students ‘oohed’ and ‘aahed’ at the wondrous display of light, some girls were even screaming at the sight of their beloved hero.
Once the rings disappeared, Daniel levitated off the ground, neon green eyes piercing the crowd of unruly teenagers. Lancer noticed himself gawking at the sight and quickly reoriented himself. How did his most enigmatic students manage to save the entire world? The student who he thought would never amount to anything? The student with the worst grades he had ever seen in his entire career of being a teacher?
But Daniel had proved him wrong. He’d never seen a student rise so quickly from the dead, quite literally too. He’d secretly been one of the most iconic people in town, and now globally. It truly warmed his heart to know that his student had been the one to save the world. If only he had known sooner of Daniel’s alternative self, he might’ve helped the boy on his assignments and decreased his overall workload.
“I can’t believe it. You really are Phantom…” Dash murmured.
“Wow Fenton, what else can you do?” Kwan shouted.
“Can you take me on a ride ghostboy?” Paulina asked in a flirtatious voice.
Several other students began talking simultaneously, making Lancer annoyed. It seemed as if Samantha and Tucker were also displeased at the several voices.
“Quiet down students. Daniel can only answer one question at a time, so please, raise your hands.” Daniel seemed to let go of his tense posture as he slowly returned to a slouch.
“Uh... Valerie.” Daniel said as he pointed to the African American girl in the back after looking through the crowd of students.
“Why didn’t you tell any of us?” She asked somewhat aggressively with narrow eyes. Her question seemed to have some hidden meaning, but Lancer couldn’t define what exactly was her true message.
“I couldn’t risk anyone’s lives in danger.”
“What about Sam and Tuck? They knew about it. Weren’t their lives important?” She questioned the boy.
“Well uh, they were there when it happened…” Daniel replied unsurely.
“It?” Valerie asked as she leaned out of her seat and towards the ghostly teen.
“The accident.” Daniel said dropping back to the ground and transforming into his former self. He seemed uncomfortable at the mention of this accident, which meant Lancer would need to intervene. Before he could, Samantha replied.
“Val let’s not talk about that day, ok? Clearly he’s not ready.” She said standing up and looking the African American girl squarely in the eye. Valerie reclined back in her chair from her previous tense posture and began muttering something incoherent.
“Next question.” said Samantha as she turned to face the students who had once again shot their hands into the air in an effort to be called on. “Lester.”
“What powers do you have?” asked the red haired boy from the back.
“Uh, ecto-ray, intangibility, invisibility, flight, ecto-shield, cryokinesis, body manipulation, extra strength, extra healing, and uh… those are the ones I can list off of the top of my head.” Said Daniel as he crossed his arms over his chest. Lester was left in awe as he wished he had powers too.
The class continued like this until the last five minutes of the class period, where Lancer interrupted the students Q&A session to remind them of their assignment tomorrow.
“Remember students, complete Friday’s homework by the beginning of class tomorrow if you would like to earn credit. I will adjust our schedule to accommodate for today’s missed lesson. This means you will have double the assignments tomorrow. Is that clear for everyone?”
Many students groaned, while some replied with a ‘yes’. They began to gather their things and straighten out the desks to their previous placements. The bell rang a second later and students began filing out of the classroom, conversing amongst themselves.
“Mr. Fenton, could you come see me for a moment?” Lancer said as he glanced at the boy. He nodded towards his friends, who left the classroom to wait for him outside. The boy shuffled up to Lancers desk, backpack loosely hanging off his shoulder.
“Daniel, I want you to know that I’m proud of you.” Lancer said with a smile, prompting the teen to return the smile as well.
“Thanks Mr. Lancer. You don’t know how great that is to hear from you.” He said through his wide grin.
“Just when I thought I might have to recommend your for summer school, you manage to save the entire world.” Lancer said sarcastically. “I’m just curious, why didn’t you tell me? I could’ve helped you.”
“Like I said Lancer, I couldn’t risk your’s or anyone’s life. If you knew I was Phantom, the ghosts would come after you.” The raven haired boy replied quickly.
Daniel’s answer was reasonable, but something felt missing. It was as if he was leaving some crucial information out of the picture.
“Is that truly why you didn’t tell anyone?” Lancer questioned.
The boy was left speechless, and Lancer knew why. He had uncovered another part of his student that he had kept so strongly concealed. Daniel stared at Lancer for a few seconds before replying in a lower and softer voice.
“I didn’t know if people would accept me. Would I be even more of a freak than I am now?” he replied staring at his shoes.
“Daniel, you realize that no matter who or what you are, I will always accept you. You’ve done astounding things with your special powers, and despite your mix of identities, I will always be there for you. And like I said, I am very proud of you…”
Daniel stood there soaking in the words, for a moment he looked like he was going to say something, but then he shut his mouth. He walked around the desk and towards the teacher. He then wrapped his arms around Lancer, and Lancer returned the embrace. The two hugged for a moment, with Lancer patting Daniel on the back. Leaving the embrace, Lancer spoke to his student.
“Now go to your friends, they’re waiting.” he said with a smile.
“Thank you Mr. Lancer.” Danny said looking straight at his teacher. Lancer could’ve sworn he saw a flash of green light from the student’s eye, before he turned around and walked into the hallway.
Lancer watched as the trio walked past the door and into the sea of students.
He really was proud of the enigma everyone called Danny Fenton.
And so was everybody else.

"Where did those bruises come from?" ~ "Oh my God, you're bleeding"
Pairing: Jeon Jeongguk x Reader
Genre: Angst
Word Count: 1.7k
Warning: Mentions of physical abuse.
Request: "jungkook 11 and 12, hurt pls"
A/N: I don't think I had ever written something about this topic before, so idk how to feel about it. Just know you can always talk to me (or anyone, for that matter) if you're going through something like this.
Tumblr media
The first time Jungkook noticed the purple marks on your skin was one day when you took your jacket off, not even realising they were barely visible in your arms. He thought you might had bumped into something, so he shook it off.
The second time was a week after that, when the two of you were cuddling and he lifted your shirt a little bit so he could caress your skin. The bruises were now on your hips, near your lower back. They were more prominent this time, so he asked you about them. You told him you had bumped into your desk and that might’ve been the cause. The conversation ended there.
The third time? You fell.
The fourth, it was your dog being too effusive.
By the fifth time, though, he decided he was done with you lying to him. It had been over a month since the dark marks had started showing up on multiple parts of your body, and along with that, your mood was different as well. You were quiet most of the time, getting nervous and defensive whenever he brought up the topic. You’d get scared at the most insignificant things. You weren't around as much anymore. But what really hit a nerve of his was when one evening the two of you were on his bed doing nothing and you flinched when he reached his hand out to take yours. Not only did your unexpected actions of getting away from him hurt him, but something clicked inside of his mind.
The two of you got to his room one night after he had taken you to a local fair in an attempt of seeing you be your usual self again. Laying down on the bed, you thanked him for an amazing night and he just smiled in response, pressing his lips softly against yours when just looking at each other lovingly wasn’t enough anymore.
What begun as an innocent kiss quickly became a heated makeout session. He laid on top of you – his hands roaming all over your body as his lips made their way down from yours to your neck. It had been more than a month since he last had you like this, lately you would stop things before they went too far or plainly avoid any kind of sexual interaction. So now, with you finally reciprocating, he was eager – the tension he had been growing during that time starting to show. You had also missed this, loving the way his lips and touch felt against your body. However, with both your shirts long gone and your lips messily pressing against each other, you started to feel suffocated, trying your best to ignore it. And you were actually succeeding, until he reached to unzip your pants – that’s when you felt you couldn’t breathe.
Hastily pushing him off you, you sat up straight, your hand instantly going to your neck as you desperately tried to catch your breath.
“Baby, what happened? Are you okay? Did I hurt you?” his hands cupped your face, trying to get you to calm down. He had no idea what just happened, but by the look of it he grew worried you might had been having a panic attack.
Nodding, you finally caught your breath. He sweetly caressed your face before moving his hands down to your arms – his eyes following by reflex.
Blue marks.
Taking a better look at your uncovered body, he noticed they were not only on your arms, but also on your wrists, hips – hell, you even had one on your shoulder. What made his heart sink even more though, was that they were recent.
“Baby?” he called your attention, his voice breaking. “Where did those bruises come from?” he asked the same question he had been asking you for the past month. The question you so badly dreaded.
Only then realising you were still without your shirt, you quickly grabbed it from the floor and put it on, but it was far too late and you knew it. Anyway, you tried to come up with something fast, as ridiculous as it might turn out. “I was with– with one of my friends the other day playing fights and–"
“Stop lying to me!” he begged, not intending to raise his voice but he was sick of you not telling him what was really happening. He needed to know. “Baby, please, just…” he ran his hand through his hair, reaching then for your hand and lifting up the sleeve of your shirt enough to see the evident blue line around your wrist. “These are hand marks” he whispered, his eyes watering. The only thought of someone laying their hands on you broke him. “Who’s hurting you?” his eyes met yours.
Taking your hand away from his, you stood up, ready to avoid the topic once again. “I should get going”.
“Y/N” he called you out, not letting you go past him. “Please. I need to know so I can do something”.
You looked down, tears making their way down your cheeks. He instantly got up to wrap you inside his arms in a protective yet comforting way – only tightening his grip on you when he felt you start sobbing. His heart breaking by the second.
He told you he was there for you and he would be no matter what, that you could trust him – which you already did.
And that was when you finally opened up to him, telling him the truth he was so desperately craving. You told him how your mum’s new boyfriend had moved in with the two of you around two months ago. How he would always be home and your mum not due to her time-consuming job. How he would get drunk most of the time. How violent he would get whenever that happened. And how he’d abuse you.
By each word that left your lips Jungkook felt his heart break a little more and his anger grow on him. How could anyone dare to lay a hand on you? Even if you came off as a strong woman, to him you were so fragile, so precious – he couldn’t even imagine how frightened you must had been, how powerless you must had felt. And even if it was not his fault, a part of him would never forgive himself for not being there for you, for not pushing further whenever he had asked you about the bruises and you shook it off. He could have done something earlier.
When you were done telling him everything, anger had taken over him.
He was seeing red.
Your eyebrows furrowed the moment you no longer felt his touch and saw him get up and walk out the door. You called out his name, asking where he was going, but got no response. It was when you heard the front door strongly shut when your heart started racing. You were left dumbfounded, not understanding the situation at all. Had he just left? It was late at night, where could he possibly be going to?
Taking your phone in your hands, you started dialling his number, only to be greeted by his answering machine.
It must had been an hour and a half later, multiple missed calls from you, growing more worried by the second, when he showed up again in his room. He entered it as if nothing, holding a bag you recognised as yours in his hands. However, your attention was immediately on his face.
“Oh my God, you’re bleeding” you instantly stood up, your hands cupping his face as you searched for where it was hurt. There was a cut on his lower lip and another one on his cheekbone. He flinched when your finger traced his lip. “What did you do, Jeongguk?” you whispered, already having an idea.
He shrugged. Wasn’t it obvious? “To be completely honest, I went there ready to beat the shit out of him” you gasped, not being used to that side of him. “But when I got there I realised I wouldn't be able to press charges if I did so, so when he opened the door I just went past him informing I was your boyfriend and went there to pick your stuff up. And he came at me”.
Your heart shrunk. “Why would you do that? Guk, why would you put yourself in danger like that?” your eyes watered. Maybe you should’ve just kept quiet, that way none of this would've happened.
“He needed to know you are not alone and he can’t do whatever the fuck he wants. And, honestly, I am so glad he threw the first punch because now he’ll be hearing from my lawyers”.
You shook your head, the last thing you wanted was for him to get involved. It was your mess, not his. And seeing him get hurt because of you made your heart ache. It wasn’t his duty to keep you safe. Although, to him, it was – he would move mountains just to prevent you from getting harmed.
He sighed before he got closer to you, rounding your figure with his free hand, later planting a kiss to your forehead. “He’s not touching you ever again” a tear fell from your eye. “And you are not going back there” he informed you.
“I have nowhere else to go, Guk. It’s not that simple” you shook your head once again. You had a few savings but they were not enough to get your own place. Until you could earn some more money, you were stuck there.
“As your long-term boyfriend I strongly differ” he made his way past you and to his closet, removing a few of his things to get some free space. Opening your bag, he started accommodating your clothes there. “You’re moving in with me” he practically informed you, making a silent promise to do anything on his power to help you move past this no matter how long it’d take, and to make sure no one laid a single hand on you ever again.

10 tax considerations and tips for newlyweds
Couple waiting to get married at San Francisco City Hall. (Photo by Brian Kusler via Flickr)
One good thing has come of my self-imposed pandemic lock down. Seeking a distraction from the news channels I usually watch, I'm finally getting more of my money's worth from our cable account.
I've been exploring the many channels the hubby and I typically tend to click right past. For the last week or so, I've tuned in to WEtv because of its run of CSI: Miami episodes. No judging, please!
Actually, the TV is more like a talking lamp (really!). The dramatic intonations of David Caruso's Horatio Caine character provide background noise while I work, peruse social media and catch up on stacked-up printed magazines, not always in that order. Again, no judging, please.
Sunglasses of Justice (SoJ) to the rescue! Via GIPHY
But a commercial actually got me to look at the screen today when the announcer asked, "Remember weddings? WEtv does. That's why we're bringing you a show guaranteed to comfort you in these uncertain times. … Forget Zoom. It's 'Zilla time!"
Yep, Bridezillas are back.
I never watched the show. I get enough of people behaving badly from news programs.
But the television ad reminded me of all the weddings that were postponed or reworked to accommodate COVID-19.
And that, of course, reminded me of all the tax matters that happy couples need to take care of whenever they finally tie the knot. Below are 10 tax tips for all newlyweds in coronavirus time and beyond.
1. Deal with dual withholding. A key post-vows tax move is adjusting your workplace withholding to account for your new joint filing status. This is particularly true where both spouses get wages. If you don't coordinate your taxes, specifically how much is taken out of each of your paychecks, then you could end up owing the Internal Revenue Service a lot at tax filing time. Even more distressing, especially as you're starting out a new life together, is that such withholding miscalculations could mean you owe Uncle Sam an underpayment penalty (and interest!), too.
The IRS says it's generally better for the higher-earning spouse to claim all the couple's allowances on his or her Form W-4, with the lower wage earner claiming zero. Such calculations also are critical if you and your new spouse might end up in a higher tax bracket and find yourselves subject to, among other things, the additional Medicare tax. The IRS' online withholding calculator is a good way for all taxpayers to make sure they get their withholding right.
2. Make sure everyone knows your new name. After marriage, some spouses change their surnames. If either, or both of the newlyweds legally change their name post-vows, they need to report it to the Social Security Administration (SSA). The IRS matches what's on your 1040 with the SSA data every filing season. It your new name on your post-wedding tax return doesn't match the official SSA info, it could delay any refund.
3. Update your address. Marriage also often means at least one spouse will have a new address. In these situations, the IRS and the U.S. Postal Service need to know. Newlyweds can file Form 8822, Change of Address, to update their mailing address with the IRS. They should notify the postal service to forward their mail by going online at USPS.com or by visiting their local post office.
Even if you didn't invite your boss to the wedding, he or she also needs to know about your address and/or name changes. That's the only way to ensure the Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, that your employer will send you early next year has the correct information.
4. Reassess tax-favored workplace benefits. When you get back from your honeymoon, stop by your workplace's benefits office to make adjustments. Since marriage is a major life changes, you'll be able to make necessary changes outside of the standard open enrollment period.
If both you and your spouse have jobs, review what benefits each workplace offers and coordinate them to get the maximize benefits, tax and otherwise. This is especially true if your marriage results in a blended family of dependent children.
Take special note of any flexible spending account (FSA) that you or your spouse have. You need to assess how these tax-preferred medical accounts fit into your new lifestyle and where changes need to be made.
5. Review your health care options. Speaking of health care, if you get medical coverage through the Affordable Care Act's (aka Obamacare) Health Insurance Marketplace, aka the exchange, or a state marketplace instead of through your job, you definitely need to review that in light of your new marital status. You might be eligible for or now make too much combined income to qualify for the premium tax credit (PTC).
Other changes to your household, such as family size if your marriage also created a new blended family with minor, dependent children, also could affect the tax credit amount available to you. If you get advance PTC payments, you definitely need to report your life changes to your marketplace ASAP, as this can affect any tax refund or the amount of tax you owe.
6. Consider the charitable side of marriage. Did you use a nonprofit's hall to exchange your vows and made a donation to do so? It could be a tax deduction on your first joint return next year. Donating excess wedding food or favors also could provide a tax break. My post on tax-smart ways to give back on your wedding day has additional charitable ideas in connection with your nuptials.
7. Evaluate your filing status. While your wedding date is important, for tax purposes the big day is Dec. 31. If you are legally married on or any time before the last day of the tax year, the IRS considers you married for the full year. That means your tax return for that year must be filed as married filing jointly or married filing separately.
Generally, the joint filing status is more advantageous. Sometimes, though, married spouses fare better (or at least one spouse does) when they opt to file two separate returns. My post on 6 signs married couples should consider separate tax returns has more on these considerations. Also check out the IRS' interactive tax assistant to help you determine which status is best for you and your new spouse.
8. Determine whether you'll face a marriage penalty or bonus. For many couples, getting married results in a lower tax bill compared to the single filing status. This tends to happen when one spouse earns significantly more than the other. Couples that earn similar amounts, however, may wind up paying more combined federal and state tax. This is especially true for higher income earners.
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017 made many changes, but these so-called marriage tax penalty or bonus situations remain to some degree. As with all things tax, marriage penalties and bonuses depend on your personal circumstances. But it's good to know how your vows affect your tax situation and explore possible options, such as one spouse deciding to give up or reduce hours at his or her job, to ease any added tax costs.
9. Talk taxes before the vows. You've had the discussion about your tax-favored job benefits. You also discussed how your joint earnings will affect not only your new lifestyle, but also your taxes. Still, you might need to have an additional tax talk. Or two. This is especially true if you have some questions about how your spouse handles some income and subsequent tax matters.
The reason for these added tax talks comes into play if you do decide to file a joint tax return. Both spouses are equally responsible for what's on that lone Form 1040. This is known as joint and several liability and is found in §6013(d)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This statute gives the IRS the ability to come after either spouse for payment of a tax bill, even the spouse who is in more dire financial circumstances. You might be able to avoid or lessen the adverse tax implications if you qualify as an innocent or injured tax spouse.
But it's better to be preemptive. So take a good look at your new married financial and tax situation in making the decision (among others) to possibly file separately to avoid any ill effects of this shared tax liability law.
10. Don't forget about your state taxes. Most Americans face some sort of state tax in addition to what they annually owe Uncle Sam. Many of the actions you'll take with regard to your federal taxes (name change, residence, etc.) also apply to your state tax situation. Check with your state tax office or even better your tax adviser as to what to expect, at all tax levels, now that you're married.
While taxes could be, like your wedding vows noted, better or worse after you're married, they usually don't play a big role in couples' decisions to marry. That's how it should be. Love definitely takes precedence over taxes. That said, however, don't ignore them either. You don't want one of your fist disagreements after starting off your new married life to be about taxes.

Course Requirements
Required Reading:
McCloud - Understanding Comics
Moon, Fábio, Gabriel Bá - Daytripper
Spiegelman - Maus, Vol. I
Bechdel - Fun Home
Ferris, Emil - My Favorite Thing is Monsters
Stevenson, Noelle - Nimona
Vaughn & Staples - Saga, Vol. 1
Course Requirements and Methods of Assessment: Students are required to participate in class, complete all assignments, and to study the course concepts.  Students will be assessed on constructive participation in class discussions and activities, written assignments, projects, and presentations.  Specifically, students must:
PREP: read all texts assigned for class work prior to class & think about them (notebook/cards)
PROCESS: bring your thoughts to class and share them (discussion)
PROCESS: develop your thoughts (short exploratory papers)
PROOF: synthesize your thoughts (a longer paper, project, or a final exam)
 Specific Requirements
Attendance, Engagement, & Participation: evaluated through attendance, effectiveness in discussions and other group work, and overall contribution to the success of the class. (10%)
Discussion Cards: Daily question or topic based on reading, or response to a question from the instructor, submitted on a 3x5 index card. (30%)
Notebook: a gathered collection of quotes, notes, responses, essays, and anything else that represents your consistent and thoughtful exploration of the texts & issues of the course. (30%)
Papers (30%):
Exploratory Papers: short papers that apply course themes or concepts to one or more specific texts as assigned — typically two or three one- to three-pages.
Final Paper: a final essay that concludes and consolidates your work in the course. May be a revised and expanded exploratory paper, a new paper, or ( in consultation with me, a creative project). A final examination will also be available as a substitute for those who need or prefer it.
the fine print:
Basic Expectations:  To pass this course you will need to meet certain basic expectations for attendance, behavior, and work.
Fundamentals: You must make a good-faith effort to do all the work listed on this syllabus as a course requirement.  You must attend class regularly, arriving on time, ready to participate in the class work, with the proper materials and with all previously-assigned work completed.
Class Preparation: In general, college students are expected to spend at least two to three hours outside of class preparing for each hour spent in class. This applies to our class. Make sure you are fully prepared to participate successfully during class.
Contributions to Class: You must contribute positively to the course by ensuring that everyone present has an opportunity to work and learn.  Shy or not, every student must make an effort to contribute to class discussion in some fashion, whether by taking an active part in discussion, or by collaboration with others.
Attendance: Attendance at all class meetings is expected. There are no excused absences. In case of illness or emergencies, assigned work may be excused or deadlines extended, but absences will always be, and be counted as, absences. The same is true for athletic absences. It is your responsibility to see your instructor about how to catch up with the class whenever you miss. Excessive patterns of absence, or more than three absences in a row, will severely affect your ability to succeed in the course. Missing more than three classes will lead to lower grades of approximately 1/3 letter grade per day; missing more than six classes may lead to a failing grade. NOTE: being in class but asleep, distracted, or disruptive counts as an absence.
Conflicts with Class Meeting Times: You are responsible for scheduling appointments and other responsibilities so they do not conflict with this course.  Athletes participating in games must make arrangement with the professor about missing class work before the game takes place.  Students participating in field trips for other classes must obtain permission and make arrangements with the professor about missing class work before the field trip takes place.  Class absences will affect your final grade.
Late Work: In general, work is due as assigned — but life is complicated. Daily work such as discussion cards or in-class exercises and quizzes cannot be accepted at full value; such work may be turned in at the next class to count toward the overall participation grade. Homework exercises, short papers, and take-home exams may be turned in within one week after the due date without penalty — no excuse needed; however, no work will be accepted beyond the grace period. Final papers or projects must be turned in on time because these are typically due at the final exam meeting. Those who turn in all assigned work on time will receive bonus points at the end of the term.
Disruptions: Any behavior that disrupts the business of the class (by distracting me or anyone else) is unacceptable. Disruptive students will receive one warning; if disruption continues, they may be asked to leave the class, or receive grading penalties. Long-term patterns of disruption may lead to expulsion from the course, or severe reductions in grade. This includes unscheduled trips to the bathroom, except for emergencies. Attending class when unprepared, sleeping in class, appearing intoxicated in class, or leaving class for an extended period can, and often will, be considered as absences.
Electronic Disruptions: The inappropriate use of cellphones, laptops, tablets, or any other device that takes your attention away from the room, people, and work taking place in your physical vicinity is unacceptable. Please refrain from texting, using email or facebook or anything else on the web during class unless these are clearly and directly connected to class work, or a matter of a true emergency.
Finally: Fulfilling these basic expectations does not guarantee a passing grade; it only means that you are qualified to receive a passing grade.  Your work at class assignments will determine your actual grade. Failure to fulfill any of these expectations may lead to consequences including, but not limited to: expulsion from a class meeting, or from the course, or a lowered or a failing grade.
 Academic Honesty Policy:
Plagiarism will not be tolerated.  Make sure you know what plagiarism is and how to avoid it.  Any student who turns in plagiarized work will fail the course.  A description of plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty are to be found on the College website. Go to Academics and click on Academic Policies; then click on Academic Honesty.
 Special Needs Students:
If you are a student who requires accommodations in classroom or outside work due to special needs, please notify Cyndi Pratt, Office of Special Services (ext. 7308).  Make sure your accommodations plan has been filed with the Office of Special Services to ensure that accommodations will be made available. Remember that in order to receive accommodations in any course, you must self-identify yourself to the instructor.
