the fellowship and how they would comfort you after a nightmare
Sure thing! This is such a cute idea I love it 🥺 no detail is given about the nature of the nightmare, so it’s pretty fluffy & open to interpretation 🥰
How The Fellowship Comforts You After a Nightmare
Aragorn
A pair of hands catch you about the waist. “Careful, beloved, you almost fell,” a deep voice whispers. Aragorn. You start despite the comforting voice, and he notices. Fixing you with a look of concern, he nods encouragingly, letting you speak; you tell him it was a nightmare. “What happened?” He asks, and he listens with great interest as you describe what you saw, what your mind forced you to experience. “The night can be false,” he tells you, moving so close you can feel his breath upon your ear, “bringing forth our greatest fears. But I am here with you in its darkness.” Nodding, you give a small smile as he takes your hands. “Come here,” he beckons, and acquiescing he tucks you into him, your back against his chest and his arm draped over you protectively.
Legolas
“Come." You hear Legolas before you see him, feel the way he reaches for you. Fingers intertwine with yours and shakily you reciprocate the grip. He raises you gently to a seated position, holding you lightly about the waist as you rotate in tandem. You’re facing the window, you realize, looking out into the night. “The stars,” Legolas breathes, “ever have they provided us with hope and comfort. They are looking out for us.” Mystic as his words are, you cannot help but admit that focusing on the distant, twinkling lights is calming, especially in Legolas’s arms. Silently, you nod. Legolas peers down at you thoughtfully before speaking again, pointing out stars and constellations until you are lulled into a much more peaceful sleep.
Boromir
A tear slides down your cheek, but before the lines to reality are fully crossed you feel a hand caress you, wipe the droplet gently. “What ever is the matter?” A voice you would recognize anywhere: Boromir. Before you can speak you’re latching onto him. Stroking the crown of your head, he questions again, this time asking if you are all right. “I will be,” you answer shakily. His lips fall to yours, firmly but with a sense of care, of loving. “Good. You have me until then, and, I’m afraid, long after that, too,” he jokes, pulling you closer. “That means more than you could ever know,” you mutter, nuzzling into his neck and giving in when he shifts to his back, your body draped over his like a warm blanket.
Gimli
Gasping and shooting upward, you are met with a shout that has you exclaiming as well, heart thundering in your chest. Suddenly, looking as though he’s been slapped, Gimli reaches for your hand, taking it in both of his. “Whatever is the matter, my jewel?” You cannot help cracking a feeble smile at his words of endearment even through the involuntary terror you’d awoken to. You apologize, tell him a nightmare had taken you. “Not if I have anything to say about it!” Gimli retorts. “Does it realize who it is up against?” Cue your beloved dwarf highlighting every amazing thing about you, from your beauty to your fighting spirit to simply poetry, all the wonderful things in this world you remind him of. “So if some dream thinks it can take you, it is sorely mistaken,” he concludes, looking satisfied at the upward tug of your lips, the bashful way your head falls against his chest.
Frodo
Stirs with immediate knowledge and understanding of what you are going through, having experienced it many times himself. No words are necessary, only the small, sad nod you share. Frodo's hand immediately trails up and down your arm, spreading grounding warmth across your skin. Your head falls back against his chest in defeat and with a deep breath, he pulls you flush against him, lips pressing against the crown of your head. Frodo never demands words, but listens with deep thoughtfulness if you wish to volunteer them and even shares any similarities in his so you know you are not alone. Especially if any of them embody your worst intrusive thoughts, the hardest things to share aloud. He only feels comfortable sharing the events of his own nightmares because of this dark bond you share, but seeing your face and feeling the caress of your hand upon his cheek is all it takes to cast a light back into his eyes, one that sparks the same for you.
Sam
Sam’s hold upon you is the first awareness you achieve as you are thrust back into reality, your eyelashes fluttering as you make out his form. The moment tension fades from your body, he’s pulling you into him, rocking you gently and running his hand through or over your hair. “Sam, I’m sorry -” “Shhh,” he soothes, smiling gently, almost tearfully, “there’s no need. There’s no need at all. Let’s just stay here.” At your nod, he rests his chin atop your head and tucks your bodies as close into each other as possible, limbs fitting together like puzzle pieces. The last sensation you remember before drifting off to sleep is Sam’s lips lightly pressed against your cheek.
Merry
A gasp alerts Merry to your plight, sending him shooting up into a seated position, looking around the room with concern before his eyes fall sympathetically to you. “Bad dream?” His voice is quiet, hoarse from lack of use. You just nod. “Well that won’t do,” he shoots back, sitting up further and extending a hand. Shakily you take it and are pulled up at his side, an arm slung around your shoulders. “In the Brandybuck household, bad dreams mean storytime,” he tells you with a growing smile, “so your choice. Family legend or embarrassing Pippin story?” You feel your lips curling upward, visions of your nightmare already fading. “Embarrassing Pippin story.” “Great choice! So this one time…well, we’d had one too many tankards, I’ll confess, but I was well until Pippin…”
Pippin
Does not wake up at your first stirring, but as you shift you feel his body move alongside you, turning to face your way. “Are you all right?" He whispers when you fall into his gaze, distress clear upon your face that you both feel and see mirrored in his. “Nightmare,” is all you have to whisper before you’re wrapped up completely in Pippin’s embrace, his legs tangling with yours as his arms wind around you. A smile breaks through on your face when you feel him nuzzle into you with his nose, leading you to snuggle in closer against his soft curls. “I’m always going to be here for you,” you hear him whisper, feel his warm breath as he speaks, “always.”

☀️ + tolkien + only one bed <3
Omg yessss 😊
Aragorn
At first he would be frustrated because how tired he was
He would think for a while about what to do finally deciding for you to take the bed and him to have the couch or floor if there wasn't any other spot to sleep
After awhile he would wake up to see you waiting for sighing and getting beside you making sure to have just enough space to respect your boundaries but also where he had enough room to sleep and not fall off the edge of the bed
After awhile though you both slowly moved closer and closer whether it was because of the tension or because the two of you didn't feel as much awkwardness neither of you didn't know
You felt what you thought was the blanket being fixed but was actually him wrapping his arms around you
You wake up with your head on his chest not knowing what to do so you stay there and fall back asleep later waking up with him across the room looking out the window
You sit across from him talking and smiling when you look to see that he had wrapped his cape around you while you were asleep
Soon the two of you were in each other's embrace sharing a loving kiss going and eating breakfast
Boromir
He never really shared a bed with anyone so he didn't know what to think or how to act about it even when he saw your eyes get big and your face turn a rosy pink
He offers you the bigger or more comfortable side of the bed or the whole bed but you stop him telling him you both need rest and you'd just share the bed for the night
After falling asleep he felt something warm touch his spine looking behind him to see your arms wrapped around his torso and your head against his spine quietly sleeping making him confused but then smile going back to sleep holding your hand
You wake up the next morning to see boromir sitting next to you smiling looking down at you which made you turn a bright pink trying to hide your face but he gently grabbed it kissing your cheek
Gently he pulls you into his lap making you laugh and then smile laying your head on his shoulder while he just holds you "I love you my dear"
Frodo
He would be very nervous offering you the bed going to sleep in front of the fire but you immediately grab and gently sit him on the bed laying down
After a while of small talk and getting under the covers you both slowly fall asleep to the small cracks of the fire across the room
You were almost asleep when you felt a gentle but soft warm touch against your face peeking your eye open just enough where you'd still look asleep seeing him caress your face while he watches the fire
Soon you fell back asleep as he looks at you smiling before slowly and hesitantly leaning towards you kissing your cheek laying down and going to sleep
You woke up seeing frodo come in with first breakfast smiling as you locked eyes after leaning up as he put the tray in your lap sitting down beside you with a cup of tea in his hands
After finishing breakfast the two of you just talk while sitting up in bed laughing and smiling at the chaos of Merry and Pippin down the hall from the two of you
Soon you both get ready meeting the rest of the fellowship downstairs and continuing on your journey to Mordor
Sam
He would be very quiet and embarrassed not knowing what to do before turning around to bunk with frodo if the two of you couldn't get a different room with two beds
After finding out that it was the only room you could have he reluctantly agreed to share the bed making sure not to crowd you or overtake the whole bed
Soon he woke up feeling a bit warmer looking to see you asleep on him with your legs tangled with his and your head on his lower chest first a bit startled but after looking at you he smiles wrapping his arms around you going back to sleep
You both wake up wrapped and molded together making both of you turn bright red jumping away until you both laugh and sit back by each other
You place a kiss on his cheek making him frozen solid until he finally comes back to reality as you smile at him
The two of you share first breakfast getting ready going outside meeting everyone else who were waiting to leave and continue the journey to Mordor to destroy the ring
Legolas
He would definitely offer you the room and get another one for him but before he could walk out you wouldn't mind sharing the bed
You make sure that you don't touch each other and soon you're both asleep until he wakes up seeing you at the end of the bed staring at the fireplace
You turned being brought into a hug by him staying like that for an hour until you looked at each other soon in a gentle and slow kiss holding each other until you laid back down with your arms around each other, legs entangled, and head on his chest listening to his heartbeat falling asleep not much long after
You both wake up showering together telling how much you felt for each other sharing kisses on your bodies then finishing getting ready and going down eating lembas bread waiting for everyone holding hands smiling

LOTR in a modern world headcanons? I think yes.
I did this on one of my old accounts that i ended up deleting for some reason, i don’t remember, but here. Back on my Lord Of The Rings BS, let’s gooooo. This’ll be the fellowship with everyone intact, no one is dead.
As always requests are open and let me know if you want more!
LOTR x GN! Reader, general headcanons for if you had to take care of them today, in 2023. Enjoy!
The ring most likely has no power in this dimension, so yay Frodo is free from torment!
Sam loves watching cooking, gardening and home renovation shows, and he gets very invested in the former two. You learn a lot you didn’t really need to know from his commentary
Once Pippin learns about pyjamas and fuzzy slippers he never goes back, you literally cannot get him out of them
Boromir and Aragorn, being human and coincidentally two of the most responsible members of the fellowship, are the easiest to take in public to the grocery store and such.
You can pass off the hobbits (if they cover their ears with their hair) as children, and Gimli is your friend with dwarfism.
Gandalf you can pass off as your grandfather, and Legolas looks pretty normal if you cover his ears.
Pippin is the type to bounce in his seat in the car and ask “Are we there yet?!” every 5 minutes
Frodo really likes to draw, especially when there’s so many cool places and movies to draw inspiration from.
Movie nights? No horrors. The hobbits are terrified by ‘em.
Movie nights are literally so difficult because they all have such different tastes
Merry really likes James Bond movies.
Pippin is obsessed with nail polish when you introduce him to it. Boromir gets his repainted every time the polish come off. His nails need serious help after a while
Pippin and Merry often start pillow fights, and drag everyone else into it
If you have space for a garden or plants in your home, Sam is on it. He finds it calming, so now you have some home grown plants :)
Taking the hobbits in public? Bad idea. You can trust Frodo and Sam, but Merry inevitably drags Pippin off to do something dumb and possibly dangerous.
Gandalf has an old man rocker. There is no discussion.
The hobbits do the classic “getting one sibling to ask for fast food because whoever’s in charge will say yes”, they get Frodo to do this because he has the best puppy dog face and he’s unsure about asking for things normally.
Pippin and Merry cannot handle too much caffeine or sugar or they go crazy
You thought Legolas’ hair was good before? He steals your hair care products and his hair is literally perfect.
(He’s also willing to do skincare with you, not that his face needs it. Again, flawless)
Game nights are so chaotic. You can’t play a lot of games since they don’t know what many things from this world are, so games like Trivia and Charades are off the table
Gimli and Legolas verse each other in video games, often enough it ends with Legolas winning and Gimli rage quitting
Aragorn is so responsible he’s literally the perfect man to do anything with, and he can hold the fort down if you need to leave
Pippin is so clingy, he trails you wherever you go and asks you random questions but it’s adorable
Boromir insists on carrying your stuff, bags of groceries, all that
Frodo often goes to the library to find new books to read, with you of course
There’s a whole debate on whether 3D or 2D animation is better, i would not get involved if i were you.
Pippin and Merry are also avid fans of quoting their favourite movies, once they see them
Legolas and Frodo are the best listeners, they will just sit there and not judge or try to give you advice they just. sit there. like the perfect men they are.
Legolas would have a meme for everything. Like any situation. You text him like “PIPPIN FELL DOWN SOME WELL WE DON’T EVEN HAVE A WELL HELP” and he just has a meme that fits the situation perfectly.
Frodo and Legolas would watch Avatar: The Last Airbender together because it’s their favourite show. Aragorn jumps in also.
Those three are also avid tea drinkers.
Boromir likes Game Of Thrones. I don’t know anything about it, he just does. Please confiscate Pippin while he does.
Pippin gasps dramatically whenever a plot twist surprises him.
Sam loves to cook, and he does a lot of cooking in the house once he arrives. You two just work together in the kitchen (if you can’t cook, he’ll teach you) and have nice sweet conversations
Legolas is great at doing people’s hair. If you ask him to, he’d probably agree, though he’d probably be a bit flustered as that is a courting ritual in his culture.
Ask Legolas to talk to you until you fall asleep. His voice is so heavenly istg-
The hobbits get sleepy when their hair is played with and it’s adorable
Won’t lie this hyperfixation came back then it circled back to TMNT and today i watched these films with my friend and now i’m back to LotR love. Most of this has been sitting in my drafts for a couple weeks.
Anyway, I think that’s about it from me, I hope you guys enjoy! :)
If you want to request, rules are pinned on my page! Let me know if you want a general part two or a set of modern headcanons for a specific character. I love LOTR in the modern world content so much.
Have a good day, and remember that you are loved!

Four times he wasn't sure + 1 time he was (Aragorn x Reader)
author's note: ahh, this is finally done! i started it last year but then uni and work got in the way so it took me until now to finish it. i'm super excited about this honestly, and i hope some of you will feel just as happy reading it. if enough people are interested, i have thought about writing a part two already, like "four times reader wasn't sure + 1 time they were" - what do you think? as always, i tried to keep reader's looks etc. really vague, if there is something you think can be adjusted to make it even more inclusive, please let me know!
warnings: english isn't my first language, mentions of blood, war, death, canon lotr fights, let me know if i forgot something :)
word count: 2.4 k (I think that's the longest fic i've written!)

The first time
"What were you thinking, Strider?", you hissed as the man sat down next to you at the campfire.
"Going out there all by yourself, with no backup. What if a herd of orcs had found you, huh? What then?"
Aragorn could tell you were mad.
"You could have been killed!"
He wasn't even sure if that alone was enough to describe the intense emotions you were displaying right now.
"Darling, I-"
You cut him off. "I don't want to hear it, Aragron. This was dangerous. Something bad could have happened to you."
He hated this. He hated how your voice wavered, either with anger or fear or both. He wanted to see that pretty smile back on your face.
"I can take care of myself."
You took a deep breath. You knew he was right. After all, he was a Ranger from the north who's been riding through the wild all by himself for years, keeping others and himself safe.
Aragorn could tell that something had changed in your demeanor. The wild gesturing of your hands slowed down and your eyes had softened again.
"I know you can", you started as you fumbled around with your hands. "But... What I've been trying to say is that I worry. All the time, about everyone and everything. And when I realised that you were the only one gone from the group and out there without anyone who could help you in case of an attack, something inside me flipped. My worry for you was clouding any rational judgement."
You fell silent for a moment.
"You have the weight of the world on your shoulders, Aragorn. I'm sorry I raised my voice at you. I am just asking, begging you, please don't shut me out. Let me help you carry this weight. You don't have to be the lone ranger any longer. Allow me to take care of you. Let me in."
The crownless king was, quite literally, speechless. Your words had knocked the air out of his lungs.
Would your reaction have been the same if had been Legolas or Boromir who strayed away from the group? He wasn't sure. But then again, it didn't really matter. You cared about him. So much that you became sick with worry when the possibility of something bad happening to him arose.
The thought alone brought a smile to his face, making the skin crinkle around his eyes.
You would never get enough of that sight.
"I promise, I will try my very best to do exactly that", Aragon answered before he paused, thinking about whether he should make you an offer or not. He decided to take the risk. "Maybe, next time, you could accompany me."
Your eyes lit up and he knew he made the right decision. "I would love to."
His chest felt light.
The second time
You've always been someone who gave people their privacy. After all, you didn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable around you, but the way you saw Aragorn struggle right this moment made you second guess that decision.
He could feel your eyes on him. He knew you were watching him and yet, he didn't want to take the first step. He hated to be a burden which was exactly the reason why he wasn't going to ask you for help.
Maybe Legolas would assist him with applying the ointment on his back, or maybe- his train of thoughts came to a halt.
He promised you.
He promised he'd do his best to let you in, let you take care of him.
Instead of calling out your name, his eyes locked with yours and he silently pleaded you'd understand.
You did. Of course you did.
With just a few steps, you were standing next to the man, resulting in him letting out a sigh of relief.
His hair was wet from bathing in the lake closeby and the dirt that was usually decorating his face had also been washed away.
"Do you need any help?"
He's sure that he never heard a voice as sweet as yours, basically dripping with kindness.
He nodded. "If you don't mind."
A smile graced your features. "Not when it comes to you, my king."
You took the small container from Aragon's hand which was filled with ointment, made by Elrond to help heal wounds and relieve some pain.
You gestured for the ranger to sit down in front of you and he dropped to his knees without hesitation, his bare back to you.
You scooped up a bit of the tincture. "I apologise for my cold hands", you whispered before gently applying it to the ranger's skin.
He shuddered as soon as your fingers touched him and he tried to convince himself the goosebumps that arose on his skin were caused by the cold, not you.
You could feel Aragorn melt into your touch. His breath evened out and for a second, you even thought he had fallen asleep which was, truly, the only reason you started to trace over some old scars on his back, careful not to cause the ranger any pain.
"They don't hurt", he suddenly spoke and you flinched.
"I- My apologies, I didn’t... think, know- I-" You let out a huff of embarrassment, causing the crownless king to chuckle slightly.
A peaceful silence fell over you while you continued to rub the balm into Aragorn's shoulders and down his back, making sure to not only treat his more recent wounds.
"Where did you get this one", you carefully asked as you caressed a scar on his upper back.
And so, the ranger started to tell you the first story of many about life in the wilderness while you took care of him.
Both of you pretended not to notice when your lips brushed his skin every time he finished an anecdote of his life.
Even if that had been his last evening in middle earth, Aragorn would have been content. He got to spend it with you.
The third time
He didn't know how you did it. How you, despite of all the running, fighting and extreme weather conditions, managed to look absolutely breathtaking.
It was unfair, really.
Not that something as simple as one's looks impressed Aragorn, no.
It was just you he liked to look at because all he could think about were your beautiful brain and warm heart whenever his eyes fell on you.
It was his turn to stay up and keep watch of the fellowship's campsite, making sure they'd get through the night without an incident.
It was a calm night, there was no danger to be seen and although the crownless king stayed alert of their surroundings, he couldn't help but let his eyes drift to you every once in a while.
He was glad you were finally getting some well deserved rest after everything that has happened so far.
As if you could feel somebody watching you, you woke up. Keeping still, you checked the area around you without a single turn of your head.
Aragorn was keeping the night watch and you immediately felt a wave of calm wash over you. If he was sitting around so comfortably, you knew you could feel safe.
But then again, you also felt sorry for the ranger. Although he was running from his destiny, he had made it his mission to keep the whole fellowship safe and alive which was quite the heavy burden to carry.
You could see it, too. His tired eyes or the way at least one part of his body was always tense, ready to fight.
You let out a soft sigh and got up from your sleeping mat, quietly walking over to the man as you tried not to disturb the others.
"Y/N", he spoke softly, "Go back to sleep. You will need the rest."
Instead of answering, you plopped down next to him, his arm brushing yours.
"I can't lay down, pretending not to see you doubt yourself, even at night when everyone else entrusts you with everything they have. You think too much, Aragorn. Let that head of yours come to a rest."
Maybe it was the intimacy of the dark, but when you gestured for him to lay his head in your lap, he didn't fight it. Not for too long, anyway. There was some hesitation, but you looked too warm and too comfortable for him to miss out on this opportunity.
A sigh of relief left his lips as his head made contact with your thighs, the rest of his body turning into a ball.
A rare moment of vulnerability.
You were fighting your own urges for a while before finally letting your heart take over and bringing your fingers up to his head.
Carefully, you started to brush through the ranger's dark curls, removing any small knots along the way.
After a moment of fear that you might have overstepped his boundaries, your heart immediately felt lighter when you noticed him practically melting into your touch while he let out a relaxed groan.
"Does that feel good?"
Aragorn hummed and you smiled to yourself, deciding to go all in.
Your hands moved up his head, gently scratching his scalp for quite some time before massaging his temples.
You've never seen the ranger so blissed out.
Aragorn, on the other hand, couldn't remember the last time he felt so at peace. Your hands were like heaven in his hair and he wondered how they would feel holding his own hands in times of difficulty or against his cheeks while leaning in for a kiss.
He let himself indulge in those fantasies, not putting an end to them, despite the fact you weren't his.
When all this was over, he decided, he would ask you to stay with him.
The fourth time
The next time, there wasn't even hesitation. When you reunited with the man after the battle of Helm's Deep and saw him covered in blood - which wasn't his own, he assured you - you immediately pulled him aside, your hands cupping his face.
"Aragorn", you breathed and leaned your forehead against his.
"It is not over yet, Y/N", he replied as he took your hands, gently squeezing them.
"I feared for that, but let us celebrate this win. For now, let us take pride in the fact that evil did not win. There is still hope."
He grinned. "You are using my words against me, my darling."
"Someone has to", you mused, "otherwise you will never realise the power behind your words. And now sit down and let me clean your face before the blood dries completely."
He followed your instructions without any complaints.
You grabbed a bowl of water and a clean enough cloth and kneeled down in front of the king.
If it had been anyone else, you might have felt vulnerable or disrespected, but not in this situation.
You dipped the piece of fabric into the warm water before bringing it up to the king's face, gently wiping the blood off of his cheek.
His eyes were fixed on you. He wasn't sure how anyone could look so beautiful while being so focused. The urge to ease the tension between your eyebrows bubbled up in his chest and he desperately wanted to kiss that exact spot. But he couldn't. You weren't his and he still wasn't sure if you wanted to be.
Your voice interrupted his train of thoughts.
"Stop me if this is inappropriate, my king", you murmured after you had stood up and were now mere inches away from his face, brushing his hair back to clean his forehead.
He gulped, trying to ignore how nice you smelt, even during times of war and blood and how the use of his title didn't make him uncomfortable when you said it.
"No, this is nice", Aragorn finally replied and mentally scolded himself for sounding so unsure.
When you were done cleaning his face, you put the bowl down and turned back around to him.
"I can get you some more water if you wish to remove the blood from your chest."
He didn't want you to leave, but it would be selfish to ask you to stay when there were others who might need your assistance, so he shook his head.
"I am well enough, thank you for your help."
You tilted your head, eyes locking with his.
"You are too stubborn for your own good", you sighed. "Go and prepare what you have to, let us help the others, but tonight", you pointed at his chest, "tonight, we'll take a look at your torso."
Aragorn tried to surpress his smirk, failing miserably. "Yes, your majesty."
You rolled your eyes, a fond smile on your lips.
+1
The fight was over.
Aragorn wasn't sure how to feel when all he's ever really known was blood and war and his own swords clashing against the enemys' weapons.
But it was over.
The ring had been destroyed and by some miracle, most of the good ones had made it out alive, you included.
His heart felt suddenly very heavy as his eyes landed on your form, not knowing how you envisioned your future now that the quest had been completed.
Your eyes found his and without thinking, you ran over to the king, throwing your arms around his neck.
"We won, Aragorn", you whispered into his ear and hugged the man even tighter.
It was hard to ignore the happiness bubbling up in his chest as he felt your body against his and the joy in your voice in his ears.
"My darling", he whispered and your heart skipped a beat, "stay with me. Stay by my side and let us, together, create a world of peace for the people now and the generations that will follow."
You stared at him, not believing your own ears.
Aragorn understood your silence as reluctance and took a step back.
"It seems I have misunderstood the situation when I believed you wanted to be mine as well, I apologise for the-"
Your lips crashed against his.
"No, my king." You let out a breath of relief. "It was me who did not believe your heart could want me in that way. For as long as you want me, you will have me. I'm eternally yours."
This time it was Aragorn who pressed his lips against yours, making you lose your mind with a single gesture.
"Aye, took the lad long enough to make his move", Gimli said and looked up at the elf who eyed his new-found friend.
"I told you though. They would end up together eventually."
Just like destiny intended.

Stuffed animal
Tumblr media
Pairing:  Legolas x Reader
Wordcount: 1210 words
Warnings: hurt to comfort; The fellowship being mean to reader
Summary: After the fellowship made fun of you sleeping with a stuffed animal a certain elf is there to comfort you.
Finally, you were able to rest a bit. Aragorn and Gandalf found a clearing in the forest they both agreed on resting for the night. So, the fellowship prepared their bedrolls. When they finished Sam began to cook dinner, Aragorn sharpened his sword, Gandalf watched how Boromir tried to teach the hobbits how to make a fire, Legolas rested with his eyes closed against a tree and you were preoccupied with staring at the elf across from you. You’ve had a crush on him since you first saw him at the council of Elrond. And how could you not? Long blond hair, icy blue eyes, a fierce warrior, you could rant about him all day.
“My lady,” Aragorn pulled your gaze away, while he gave you a plate of soup.
 “Thanks, Aragorn,” you responded gratefully.
“You know,” he began as he sat next to you, “you should just tell him, that you fancy him,” you nearly choked on your soup at his declaration.
 “I- what?”
“Come on, it is painfully obvious that you both like each other,” he left you stunned, to say the least and walked over to Gandalf.
Soon darkness fell upon the camp and the only source of light was the slowly dimming fire. The fellowship sounded asleep, so you slowly sat up and as quiet as possible opened your bag and pulled your stuffed animal out. You can’t sleep without it but felt ashamed of your little habit and chose to hide it from the others. As a woman it was hard enough to proof that you were capable of this quest. You cuddled against it and let the faint sounds of the fire and the snores of Gimli lull you to sleep.
You woke up to loud laughter from your friends. Groaning you turned to the other side trying to shut them out and get a bit more rest. But as your mind slowly came to its senses, you missed the light weight in your arm. Hastily you opened your eyes to see your little friend wasn’t anywhere near you. You hurriedly began searching for it through your things.
“Do you miss something?”  Gimli laughed at you, while he held your stuffed animal up.
“Our fierce warrior sleeps with a stuffed animal who would have thought of that?” Boromir mocked you. You looked around hoping someone would defend you. But the hobbits just laughed along, even Aragorn and Gandalf smirked at their cruel jokes and Legolas was nowhere in sight, he was probably looking for any danger ahead of us.
As the humiliation became too much and you felt tears threatening to fall you ran into the forest. You only stopped when your vision was too blurry to see properly. Sinking down with your back against a tree you buried your head in your bend knees, while you continued to cry.
Meanwhile Legolas came back from inspecting the further road. Thanks to his elven ears he heard the conversation, and he was furious. Because unbeknownst to you he also had his eyes on you since the day he first saw you.
“What was that?” Legolas asked in a stern tone.
“Oh, we just had a bit fun,” Gimli answered still laughing.
“Fun for whom? Because of what I’ve witnessed (Y/N) just ran crying into the forest,” the elf bit angrily back.
“Maybe it’s better if she’s gone. I mean if she still sleeps with a stuffed animal she can’t be of much help, can she?” Boromir piped in defending Gimli.
“She is a strong warrior with a kind and loving heart. She is a perfect addition to this company. She has proven herself often enough. We all know that. And besides everyone has something from home to remind us of it,” Legolas pointed out and everyone fell silent knowing he was right, „For example Gimli, you have your necklace with pictures of your family. Aragorn, you have your evenstar and Frodo, you have your mithril shirt. So why shouldn’t she be allowed to have something, that remind her of her home?” he went on in rage and the fellowship let their gaze fall to the ground in shame, knowing he was right.
“While I go looking for her, I advise you all start thinking of a good apology for her,” he said already walking in the direction you took off but not without your stuffed animal.
While he searched for you, he freed it from a few leaves that were tangled in the soft fur from sleeping on the ground until he picked up quiet sobs ahead of him.
The sight in front of him broke his heart your whole body shook with the sobs you desperately tried to muffle with your hand.
“I think you forgot someone,” Legolas spoke as softly as he could. Startled you looked up to see he was now sitting beside you with your little comforter sitting in his lap.
“G-Go away, Legolas,” it warmed your heart that he was trying to comfort you, but you do not want him to see you like this.
“So, you want me to return with your friend?”
“It’s stupid anyway,” you grabbed it and threw it away which shocked Legolas. The elf stood up and walked over to the poor animal to pick it up.
“I do not think it’s stupid. I actually think it is quite relatable,” you looked up at him to find there was no lie in his eyes and your stuffed animal closely held to his chest.
 “You don’t?”
“No, I could not for I too miss my home. Every one of us does and it is cruel to make fun out of something, that helps you,” the elf explained softly sitting next to you again.
“I got it from my parents when I was a child. It’s the only thing I still have of my family. They died
w-when I was young, “
“Which makes it even more understandable that you carry it with you,”
“You really do not think of it as stupid or childish? “
 „No, I don’t. I can’t think that of someone I love, “
he blurted out and started to lightly blush as he realized what he had said.
„Y-you love me? “ You asked kind of shocked.
He thought for a second what he should do now but decided for the truth.
„Yes, “ he whispered as he looked to his feet.
“I love you too,” you whispered back making eye contact with him when he looked up. You watched as a smile came upon his features and involuntary you mimicked him. Slowly he leaned closer to you but before your lips touched, he stopped.
“May I?” Legolas whispered looking down towards your lips. Instead of answering you closed the gap between you two. Trying to convey every emotion Legolas felt for you he kissed you back.
“How about we go back and give the others the chance to apologize to you?” He asked when you both broke away from one another for air. You nodded in agreement and stood up with the help of Legolas hand.  For the whole way back, he didn’t let go of your hand instead he looked at you with a smile on his face.

Saviour (Boromir x Female Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: This was a really cute request by Anon that I got distracted with it and added stuff that probably doesn’t matter. Hope you enjoy <3
Fearless, valiant and nurturing. Those were the three words you would use to describe Boromir. At first, you believed him to be self-centered and he did not have the brightest suggestions at the council, but he proved to be a good man with a heart of gold when he volunteered to help Frodo.
He was a protector through and through, his love for his country and his people runs deep in his veins. You can see the pride in his eyes every time he talks about them but he never fully concealed his sadness. He was slowly losing hope in everything that you felt sorry for him.
Taking the night watch, you took a quick glance at everyone and made sure they were all sleeping. None of them were truly at peace even in their sleep. You looked over the mountains and watched the stars, captivated by their beauty that you almost forgot what your main purpose was.
At that moment, a twig broke nearby, making you look back at the Fellowship to see if it was any of them. Worry overtook you when none of them were awake. It was not right to wake any of them when it could well have been you daydreaming.
Hopping off the rock to investigate, you made sure to be careful to not wake any of them up. The farther you went, the more you regretted going off and you had a gut feeling that something was wrong. You looked over your shoulder repeatedly only to see nothing yet you continued to hear more sounds of faint footsteps and leaves cracking.
Tense, you swallowed up your pride and made your way back, your grip on your sword loosening up a bit. Turning around, you immediately came face to face with a growling orc that was in the middle of swinging its ax.
So this is how it all ends for me, you thought. An orc cuts my head off and by noon my friends will have forgotten about me.
It all happened so fast that you never had time to properly process anything aside from that, you didn’t even remember screaming. The next thing you knew, you fell backwards and were now on the ground, your head and body were still one. Funnily enough, it was the orc who lost its head instead of you. As his severed head and body fell to the ground, you met eye contact with Boromir, who had an ax stained with orc blood in his hold.
He dropped the ax and it clattered against the rock as he knelt across you, holding your face. “Are you hurt?”
You shook your head, trembling in his hold and he pulled you closer. “No, I’m not, I’m fine.” Without a second thought, you wrapped your arms around him. “Thank you for saving me.”
Boromir pulled you up to your feet and started taking you to where everyone else was. You noticed how sleepy and exhausted he was. “Never do that ever again. I will always be here to protect you, but you can’t count on that all the time. From now on, you’re not taking watch alone.”
That night, you slept in his arms, only because you asked him to. No one made you feel safer than Boromir did.
-
The second time he saved you was in the Mines of Moria. Those bloody archers almost got a hit at every single one of you but you took comfort in Aragorn and Legolas having immense skill with a bow. The cave troll almost stepped on Sam until you, Boromir and Aragorn held on the chains tight and pulled it back as far as you can to give Sam enough time to escape. Boromir glanced down at his arms to see the chains somehow wrapped around himself and before he could make any action, the cave troll swung him across the wall.
Gathering the strength he had to get up and his head throbbed. All he could hear were painful ringing noises and could barely make out what was going on in front of him. Everything was blurry.
Until Legolas shouted, “Look out!”
Believing it referred to himself, he crept sideways, narrowly missing the orc about to stab him with its sword. The orc suddenly grunted and he noticed a dagger sticking out its head before the orc fell and he was greeted by Aragorn nodding at him.
Turns out, Legolas meant you and not him, only noticing the troll holding an enormous spear, seconds ready from impaling you with it. Without any thought, Boromir ran for it and the next thing he knew, he was lying face down on the floor with you beside him, his head still throbbing but his senses were slowly recovering. Lifting himself off the ground, staggering while trying to keep his balance, he found Legolas, Gimli, Gandalf and Aragorn fighting the troll to distract it from the hobbits who were doing their best to avoid it.
“Are you all right?” Boromir asked you, wiping off the dirt and blood off his face.
You stared at him, astonished. “Forget about me, Boromir, I would ask you the same thing!”
His head throbbed again as he waved his hand dismissively.
-
Everyone needed a long night or two of sleep in Lothlórien. Boromir especially, his concussion did not go unnoticed to the remaining Fellowship and partially explained why he acted so sullen. The elves offered to give him medicine and he refused, stating that it would all go away by simply sleeping it off, only giving in when the elves would not stop insisting and Aragorn made him give in.
The Elves were kind and responsive. Some of them could not speak the Common Tongue, but all that mattered was that the Lady and the Lord themselves were able to speak it plus Haldir. Aragorn and Legolas could translate if that was the last resort.
Boromir was a good man and you would die defending that basis but he had the tendency to act strange at times. Whether the lingering thought of the Ring was bothering him or someone in the Fellowship was, you honestly couldn’t tell. Despite that, he was more than willing to talk to you even if he was grumpy.
“I had a peculiar dream the other night,” said Boromir. “More peculiar than the dream that brought me to Rivendell.”
“What was it about?”
“I saw a forest. Large and beautiful, yes, but eerie. There were broken statues of elf maidens and great lords of history. I was someone, but I don’t know who, if I was myself or someone else. There were laughs and screams echoing and I tried to look for the source. I thought someone was being attacked and needed help, but I found nothing and everything would become more faint the closer I thought I was getting.”
You sat there, deep in thought. “Do you believe it is more than a dream? I dream of scenarios more bizarre and nothing comes out of it.”
“You’re not understanding me,” said Boromir impatiently. “I think those elven herbs made me… loopy, but it’s trying to tell me something. A warning.”
You were sure he was not in his right mind and you left him to his own thoughts. The effects wore off just in time, right before departing Lothlórien. He made no reference to the dream but you were positive he thought about it all the time. Galadriel noticed and she pulled him aside for a private talk in an attempt to lift his spirits.
It didn’t work.
-
He knew Galadriel meant well but his mind was too troubled to care. Mentioning you was what soured it. He still remembered what he told you; that you can’t always count on him to save you. That’s assuming he lives long enough.
According to her, you were indebted to him and you were planning to return the favour. He would also show his worth at the fullest but whether he obtains his heart’s deepest desire or not is to be determined.
“It does not depend on you, but on the one you love most,” she told him at last.
All he ever wanted was a Gondor free from threats, his father as the stern but honorable man he knew and his brother happy without being shamed by their father. And despite your foolishness matching Pippin’s, he cared about you more than he thought he would. He wanted you.
Why can’t he have both? Why should he choose between seeing his people safe or a fulfilled life with you when he can have both?
The Eye of Sauron watched his city for as long as he could remember and he’s reached a point where the Fellowship’s efforts were all in vain and fruitless in his view.
Men have gained victory from fighting fire with fire. Boromir does not see why it cannot happen again to end Sauron.
He made a decision.
-
A decision he would come to regret as soon as he carried it out.
Merry and Pippin stood behind him on his command, fearful but determined to assist him. He would prefer them to leave him and run as far away as they can and find a safe place to hide in. He would buy them some time if he could, but they refused to leave him.
There had to be at least six dozen orcs charging at them. Those orcs were unfamiliarly large and much more dangerous, he reckoned the biggest of them were as tall as him and Aragorn. So far, he has hacked them off but not without difficulty and sooner or later he’ll have a sword through his chest.
Was this what Galadriel meant when she told him he was going to meet his full worth? He accepted death long before a man should be fully accustomed to it and envisioned himself dying to protect his people.
He did not ever think that “his people” referred to the little ones, a ranger from the North, a curious elf, a cheeky dwarf and you.
As accurate as Merry and Pippin were with their rock throwing abilities, anxiety occasionally overtook them and these new orcs were strong. One of them dodged the rocks and Boromir was ready to enter death’s arms when he saw it charge at him that he could not counter in time, but it fell sideways suddenly and he saw a dagger in its head. There you stood, running over to them as fast as you can, your sword in your hand.
“You came,” said Boromir as if he did not expect her arrival in the first place. “I’d never thought-”
“Never will I leave a friend in times of crisis,” you said, baffled that he dared to question such an act. “Especially if they helped me many times before.”
A debt repaid, Boromir thought, remembering Galadriel’s words. And how will the second one go?
He would find out very soon when you stepped in to take an arrow meant for him.
-
You took two.
He had never seen you so afraid. He thought you were one of those people that wasn’t capable of being afraid. You reminded him of all the soldiers he watched pass away. Yet you did not show any regret in taking those arrows. The only thing you regretted was the capture of Merry and Pippin.
Tears streamed down his eyes. He blamed himself and his stupidity for your current state, all because he thought taking the Ring was the only way to ensure harmony for his people, his country and his relationship with you. He wanted to laugh bitterly. What relationship? She only saw me as a friend. What was I thinking?
He recalled an older memory with his father when he was a young man. “Life is unfair, my son,” he told him firmly. There was no warmth in his voice. “You never have everything you want. The greatest challenge is choosing which takes precedence.”
If the price he had to pay for his mistakes was his own life, that he understood. You reap what you sow. But your own life despite doing nothing wrong? It was tragic and agonizing, but made too much sense in a horrible world. The world was full of innocent people whose life was cut short and of evil people living life in the fullest way.
“It should’ve been me,” he muttered. “It should’ve- it should’ve-”
Aragorn dropped his sword in shock before running over to you, taking a closer look at the arrows. Boromir did not notice his presence until he spoke.
“She still has a pulse,” Aragorn said. “And she was lucky to be hit where she was. Any higher or lower would be fatal.”
“It should’ve been me,” repeated Boromir, still in disbelief.
“Do not say that!” Aragorn snapped. “Have some hope in you, Boromir! She lives for now. These arrows are unlike anything I have seen and pulling them out is a risk. It is one we must be willing to take to put athelas to her wounds.”
They did find a way to pull the arrows out without killing you but it was not easy. Boromir took deep breaths as he watched Aragorn apply athelas to your wounds and started to wonder how things would have gone if you had just not stepped in the pathway.
He was not sure if it was for better or worse that he lived. Frankly, he did not want to think of it anymore.
-
The first thing you noticed as soon as you woke up was the change in environment. The last thing you remember was a forest in the daytime. Now you were on a hill after dusk. Beside you, Boromir was on the lookout for any orcs. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli were nowhere to be found. The sound of you stirring and your hand running through grassfields startled Boromir. Seeing you alive delighted him and you thought about how you never saw Boromir that happy.
“What happened? Where are the others? Why is it just us two?” You placed a hand on your forehead as if that was going to do anything.
“They’re heading towards Rohan. I stayed back so I can take care of you. I promise you, we will see them again. I sense it is soon now that you are recovering.”
“And Frodo and Sam?”
Boromir recoiled at the mention of Frodo but he maintained his posture. “They left for Mordor on their own. It is up to us to find how we can help them in another way. They cannot do it alone.”
You nodded, not saying anything as you fully agreed. You saw the dressing on your wounds and you moved your arms to see if they were still intact. They were.
“You should not have done that,” said Boromir. “If you had not lived, I- I do not know how I can live with it. I love you, truly.”
“I love you too. We all deserve a second chance, do we not?”
Boromir smiled. He grabbed your hand and squeezed it.
“Thank you for your unwavering faith in me.”

Following with his keen eyes the trail to the river, and then the river back towards the forest, Aragorn saw a shadow on the distant green, a dark swift-moving blur. He cast himself upon the ground and listened again intently. But Legolas stood beside him, shading his bright elven-eyes with his long slender hand, and he saw not a shadow, nor a blur, but the small figures of horsemen, many horsemen, and the glint of morning on the tips of their spears was like the twinkle of minute stars beyond the edge of mortal sight. Far behind them a dark smoke rose in thin curling threads. There was a silence in the empty fields, arid Gimli could hear the air moving in the grass.
'Riders!' cried Aragorn, springing to his feet.
'Many riders on swift steeds are coming towards us!'
'Yes,' said Legolas, 'there are one hundred and five. Yellow is their hair, and bright are their spears. Their leader is very tall.'
Aragorn smiled. 'Keen are the eyes of the Elves,' he said.
'Nay! The riders are little more than five leagues distant,' said Legolas.
Tumblr media
'Five leagues or one,' said Gimli; 'we cannot escape them in this bare land. Shall we wait for them here or go on our way?'
'We will wait,' said Aragorn. 'I am weary, and our hunt has failed. Or at least others were before us; for these horsemen are riding back down the orc-trail. We may get news from them.'
'Or spears,' said Gimli.
'There are three empty saddles, but I see no hobbits,' said Legolas.
'I did not say that we should hear good news,' said Aragorn. 'But evil or good we will await it here.'
Tumblr media
The three companions now left the hill-top, where they might be an easy mark against the pale sky, and they walked slowly down the northward slope. A little above the hill's foot they halted, and wrapping their cloaks about them, they sat huddled together upon the faded grass. The time passed slowly and heavily. The wind was thin and searching. Gimli was uneasy.
'What do you know of these horsemen, Aragorn?' he said. 'Do we sit here waiting for sudden death?'
'I have been among them,' answered Aragorn. 'They are proud and wilful, but they are true-hearted, generous in thought and deed; bold but not cruel; wise but unlearned, writing no books but singing many songs, after the manner of the children of Men before the Dark Years. But I do not know what has happened here of late, nor in what mind the Rohirrim may now be between the traitor Saruman and the threat of Sauron. They have long been the friends of the people of Gondor, though they are not akin to them. It was in forgotten years long ago that Eorl the Young brought them out of the North, and their kinship is rather with the Bardings of Dale, and with the Beornings of the Wood, among whom may still be seen many men tall and fair, as are the Riders of Rohan. At least they will not love the Orcs.'
Tumblr media
'But Gandalf spoke of a rumour that they pay tribute to Mordor ' said Gimli.
'I believe it no more than did Boromir,' answered Aragorn.
'You will soon learn the truth,' said Legolas. 'Already they approach.'
At length even Gimli could hear the distant beat of galloping hoofs. The horsemen, following the trail, had turned from the river, and were drawing near the downs. They were riding like the wind.
Now the cries of clear strong voices came ringing over the fields. Suddenly they swept up with a noise like thunder, and the foremost horseman swerved, passing by the foot of the hill, and leading the host back southward along the western skirts of the downs. After him they rode: a long line of mail-clad men. swift, shining, fell and fair to look upon.
Tumblr media
Their horses were of great stature, strong and clean-limbed; their grey coats glistened, their long tails flowed in the wind, their manes were braided on their proud necks. The Men that rode them matched them well: tall and long-limbed; their hair, flaxen-pale, flowed under their light helms, and streamed in long braids behind them; their faces were stern and keen. In their hands were tall spears of ash, painted shields were slung at their backs, long swords were at their belts, their burnished skirts of mail hung down upon their knees.
In pairs they galloped by, and though every now and then one rose in his stirrups and gazed ahead and to either side, they appeared not to perceive the three strangers sitting silently and watching them. The host had almost passed when suddenly Aragorn stood up, and called in a loud voice:
Tumblr media
'What news from the North, Riders of Rohan?'
With astonishing speed and skill they checked their steeds, wheeled, and came charging round.

One Lifetime With You (ep. 2)
a/n: finallyyyy a bit more faramir writings content on this blog 🥺💖 @valkyriepirate thank you for the suggestion! I hope you enjoy this, let me know and consider reblogging 🥰 it means a lot!
If you have suggestions for more stuff, my asx box is OPEN
✨ EPISODE 2: FARAMIR ✨
Tumblr media
definitely the first contact between the two of you would be through Gandalf
Faramir would be very intrigued and I feel like he’ll have a million questions to ask you - I headcanon him as an absolute nerd
here’s the thing - he knows how things (don’t) work between elves and mortals and he would immediately forbid himself from catching any sort of romantic feelings for you
he would maintain some friendly curiosity towards you and you two would talk a lot, actually, and just spend time together
you thought it’s so cute how he always has questions to ask you and over time you realize you actually look forward to that so much
speaking in elvish together because why not? it gives him a chance to practice, reminds you of home, and it’s fun that basically nobody else in Gondor understands you
it becomes sort of an inside joke
not gonna lie, Boromir is at first a bit wary of you, but his little brother seems happy so he just lets you be (but secretly becomes protective of you over time)
it is a nice little friendship that gradually gets built and you have so much respect and admiration for each other
he feels like you understand him and actually listen to him with interest, and it feels liberating to you to just be yourself around him without the heavy weight of expectations
but you find yourself growing strangely restless and even jittery around him which is nearly unthinkable for a composed elf
and you know what that feeling is, but you cannot tell whether it might be reciprocated, or whether Faramir is just a warm and friendly person, so you need to subtly investigate the situation
maybe you start to leave books and scrolls with the finest elvish love poetry in places that you know he will spend time in
do you maybe quietly sing about Beren and Luthien as you brush and braid your hair??
either way, Faramir is intelligent and observant and he does pick up on what you’re doing rather quickly
but he thinks he is also being delusional because why would you, of all people, fall for him?
from his perspective, he is just some man, and you’re almost a deity, an apparition, a walking dream
you’re scared of going too far and finding that he doesn’t feel the same, but you fall in love more and more each time your eyes meet, and eventually you become brave enough to at least leave him a neatly written note on his desk explaining what is in your heart
immediately after you need to go and get some air and calm yourself down
he reads the note and his heart simultaneously flutters and breaks - the former, because someone as incredible as you fell in love with him, and he can at last stop trying to hold his feelings back; the latter, because he knows that the ending of your story will be heart-wrenching, although it hasn’t even properly begun
he keeps and treasures that note until the end of his days
he runs to find you in one of your favorite gardens, as if he knows you so well (he does) to know exactly where you’d be
as soon as you sense him approaching, your feelings get the best of you and you literally run to him and hug him
he is pleasantly surprised, his embrace so comforting that you’re certain you never want to let him go
you can feel his heart thumping through his clothes as you look up at him; Faramir’s breath catches in his throat
he’d secretly read a number of romance books throughout his life (and wanted to have a sweet love story too), but the second that his lips touched yours, all of those stories were forgotten - the only one that mattered, no matter the ending, was right there in front of him

"Your father loves you, Faramir, and will remember it ere the end." (The Lord of the Rings, obviously)
I am a Denethor apologist. Yes, he really did some horrible things, but his decent into madness was understandable.
The man thought he could wrestle with Sauron for years, and he paid the price. Denethor is such a tragic character. As his enemy cherrypicked all the worst things for him to see, he fell victim to despair.
And yes, he did love Faramir. Not as much as Boromir, he certainly showed favoritism, but if Faramir had died and Boromir had lived, he still would have wept. Maybe he wouldn't have given up, but he would have mourned.
I breed poultry for exhibition, so I have suffered losses to sickness and predators, and I also cull birds that don't meet the Standard. I am fortunate that I have never yet lost any close family members, and I can only imagine what it is like.
When I lose birds suddenly I can get this apathy and helplessness, and I realize I don't have the control to protect the ones you love. So I try to control the things I can control. I am not a healer. A quick death is easier for me to handle than a bird that is suffering with sickness. I am helpless to help it, usually, except to end it's suffering. While I don't condone how Denethor acted, I can sympathize with him.
It's interesting that Denethor liked Boromir more even though Faramir was more like himself. I guess he had a little bit of self-hate in there somewhere.
Lastly, Denethor's jealousy of Aragorn is kinda understandable. When he was a younger Steward, it is likely that Denethor just worried that Aragorn was better than him, but when he got older, he had been running Gondor well for many years and the Stewards have run Gondor well for centuries and actually didn't see why this upstart (only a year younger than him) should come mess it up.
Obviously, Denethor had some deep flaws, but for a while, I wanted to talk about the trauma that shaped such a tragic character, instead of the flaws that are always talked about.
I would argue that what makes Boromir a beloved character and Denethor a hated one is in the manner of their ends. But Denethor really did live a long and productive life for 89 years before that end.
Also, Pippin Took liked him, and I am optimistic enough to think Pippin is a good judge of character.

I got a Q that came accidentally as a DM vs. an ask, so I'll just re-state it here and then answer it: "Why do you think Rohan wasn't concerned about Théodred being single and without children? Shouldn't they have wanted another heir to keep his line going if/when Théodred died?
So, first off, this does seem weird on the surface, at least relative to how many actual monarchies have worked. Queens have lived or died, wars were fought, and entire nations fell when a monarch failed to produce a clear heir. So you'd think that Théodred, being in his 40s, would be considering that need. But maybe not! As shown in the Théodred fic I’m in the middle of rolling out, my personal HC for him is that he held out against marriages of convenience or alliance to have a real love match instead, and he didn't find that until close enough to his (untimely) death that the marriage itself never happened. But he also just didn't feel the call to parenthood—not all of us do!—and was more than happy to pass everything to Éomer and his descendants when he died. After all, he loved Éomer as something between a brother and a son, and that's classic heir territory. So he didn't need to rush into marriage or kids because he was comfortable with Éomer as his own heir and had made that clear enough that it was accepted.
Canonically, of course, there's no evidence for that. But there's also no evidence that Théodred's situation is all that odd in late Third Age Middle Earth. There's almost no one of any significance in the story who is married or actively raising children until the very end of ROTK. Galadriel, Bombadil, some minor hobbits, Beregond...these folks are the exceptions, not the rule. Everyone else is unmarried or widowed (or whatever you call what happened to Elrond), and the younger generation is childless—even the other hereditary heirs to power: Boromir, Aragorn, Legolas, Elladan & Elrohir, Pippin, etc.
There’s a range of reasons for that. We're told dwarves just don't put a lot of priority on marriage. The elves are fading, so they've got other things on their minds, and they tend not to have children during times of war and strife anyway. Gondor is described as a land “falling into dotage” and decreasing in population so there’s almost an element of fading there, too, though of a different kind. The Shire is the one place where there does seem to be a lot more marriage and childrearing happening, so it's probably more of a coincidence that our 5 main hobbit characters (incl. Bilbo) just happen not to be among them at the time of the story, either because of age or queerness or some other reason particular to just those individuals vs hobbit culture as a whole.
That leaves Rohan, and I'm not sure I have a super satisfying answer. Théoden's family does appear much less uptight about issues of inheritance and power and heritage than you'd think. His father very nearly abdicated the throne, and Théoden himself is kind of shockingly casual about the transfer of power when he tells the Rohirrim to just "choose a new lord as you will" should both he and Éomer die in battle. (Were we one hot nephew away from Rohan having the first democratically elected head of state in all of Middle Earth??) If the royal family felt that way, perhaps they were just reflecting a broader culture that was more comfortable with the idea of power not always going linearly from father to son and so setting up those lines through marriage and babies was not as important to them. In that case, Théoden might have been willing not to force his son into a marriage he didn't want, and Théodred may have felt more free to take his time deciding on things. All of which brings me back in the direction of my own HC, so I guess that feels satisfying enough to me!

Sorry I just saw you call Faramir one of Boromir’s greatest critics / rivals and was really surprised by that phrasing. Would you mind explaining more? I never got the impression Faramir was especially critical of Boromir at all and I’m curious.
This is such an amusing ask because it's a very common thing to believe but just- it's very blatant in the books! Faramir, in essence, cannot say a single uncomplicatedly positive thing about his brother, inspite of the fact that #1 Boromir is dead and #2 Faramir is speaking to an absolute stranger and his captive at that. He is patronising, in the main, both grieving his death but also believing it inevitable due to all Boromir's many flaws, and ALSO claiming that he was 'more beautiful in death than ever in life' which is pretty offputting. Here;
"I can well believe that Boromir, the proud and fearless, often rash, ever anxious for the victory of Minas Tirith (and his own glory therein), might desire such a thing and be allured by it. Alas that ever he went on that errand! I should have been chosen by my father and the elders, but he put himself forward, as being the older and the hardier (both true), and he would not be stayed."
This quote of Faramir about Boromir effectively sums up his attitude towards him. Each praise couched with condemnation, proud and fearless (rash) anxious for the victory of Minas Tirith (and his own glory therein) he was the hardier (but I should have been chosen). Well I can imagine Boromir might desire the ring, says Faramir, and then continues to tell Frodo that he would never desire such a thing though, he would never wish for 'such triumphs' as to use the weapon of the enemy to win the war.
And then you have what I was talking about with the big post, Faramir associates Gondor's 'decline' with Boromir's 'elevation';
‘For so we reckon Men in our lore, calling them the High, or Men of the West, which were Numenoreans; and the Middle Peoples, Men of the Twilight, such as are the Rohirrim and their kin that dwell still far in the North; and the Wild, the Men of Darkness. ‘Yet now, if the Rohirrim are grown in some ways more like to us, enhanced in arts and gentleness, we too have become more like to them, and can scarce claim any longer the title High. We are become Middle Men, of the Twilight, but with memory of other things. For as the Rohirrim do, we now love war and valour as things good in themselves, both a sport and an end; and though we still hold that a warrior should have more skills and knowledge than only the craft of weapons and slaying, we esteem a warrior, nonetheless, above men of other crafts. Such is the need of our days. So even was my brother, Boromir: a man of prowess, and for that he was accounted the best man in Gondor. And very valiant indeed he was: no heir of Minas Tirith has for long years been so hardy in toil, so onward into battle, or blown a mightier note on the Great Horn.’ Faramir sighed and fell silent for a while.
So again, Boromir was physically impressive, a man of prowess, accounted the best man in Gondor, which would be a compliment if Faramir hadn't just got done telling us that 'men who are warriors and are esteemed for such are a sign of our collective social, spiritual and ethnic decline into 'men of the twilight' so even was my brother'. They weren't even talking about Boromir here, Faramir was eulogising to Frodo upon Gondorian theories of racial hierarchy and history (badly mind you, a great deal of what Faramir says does not actually make historical sense when cross referenced with the appendices and unfinished tales) and he just decided to throw in this snide dig at his dead brother for the sake of it.
So yes! Incorporated the last big post about Boromir as an advocate for Middle Men equality with Faramir's declared desire to see Gondor return to it's 'high beauty' etc etc, they are political rivals and Faramir is Boromir's greatest critic. Not even Gandalf is so wordy in his criticisms of Boromir.

Prompt Request: Boromir (LOTR) + ❛ what did i do to deserve you? ❜
Tumblr media
Hi Groovy!! How ya been? I hope you like it and that this does your idea justice :) I also put your two requests together, I hope you don't mind!! Please feel free to send in another request <3
Tumblr media
boromir x gondorian! wife! female! reader
pretty much the ask!! also, this is for the 100 follower event (not longer taking requests)
word count: 535 words reading time: about 3 minutes warnings: mentions of battle and blood prompt: ❛ what did i do to deserve you? ❜
If Boromir was asked what he valued most in this world, he would not hesitate to say your name. When questioned as to why he said your name, his answer was never the same. There was simply so much he loved about you that a single answer would not do you justice. He felt there were not enough words in any language to even begin to try to describe his love for you. How close he held you to his heart was known by everyone in the realm, as he looked to you as you held the moon and sun.
In turn, you looked at him in the same way, as this man held your entire being. There was not a day that goes by where you do not think of this man. He consumed your body and mind, for in your eyes he was perfect in every shape and form. In your eyes he hung the stars and the moon, the sun rose and set with him.
Thus, when it was decided he shall partake in a quest to save Middle Earth you accompanied him. Although he was originally against the idea, not wanting to put you in harm's way and being the reason his wife was injured. He inevitably folded allowing you to come with him, instead of staying at home in Gondor.
The beginning of the journey was easy enough, but it was not long until the small party you travelled with found battle. The lands were littered with creatures from Mordor, such things doing anything in their power to stop the quest you were on. Though you were a lady, you were trained in swordsmanship. A couple of times you had sparred with your husband but you were simply no match.
But it was nothing like in a real battle, how you sliced through your enemies the best you would. Dodging their stabbing spears and slices of the sword. The hoard that fell upon you was quickly thinning out, allowing everything to become much more manageable. But it did not stop the stray enemy from trying to land a cheap shot on your fellow adventures.
Boromir was consumed in the battle that he did not notice the half-injured enemy stagging towards him. Their sword was worryingly close to Boromir, ready to pierce his back and put an end to the man. Quickly you sprang into action, your sword driving into your enemy's back before it could do it to your lover.
Boromir was quick to turn around to ensure you were okay, the sight that greeted him had shocked him. He had never seen you in such a powerful state before how your chest heaved with your heavy breaths. The blood that caked your hair and faces only amplified your beauty. Despite the hundreds of thoughts littering his mind, he could only form a single sentence.
"What did I do to deserve you?" His voice was full of bliss and love as he spoke, eyes showing nothing but admiration for you. As the rest of the fellowship picked off the remaining enemies Boromir hand pulled you into a kiss. Pouring his love into it, as you were quick to return it. Even in the battle field your love conquered it all.

Tolkien ask game
I was tagged by @marsharmonicorchestra , thank you so much it was such fun to answer those. I honestly love that kind of games 🤩🤩
How old were you when you read/watched LOTR for the first time? I was a Harry Potter kid and none of my parents/aunts/uncles/anyone really was into fantasy genre, so to be fairly honest I only read it last year. So i was 17 years old for both movies and books. I kinda regret that i have no experience of being a tolkien kid, but also it was so fun to be able to read it while analysing it as more mature person. And i fell hard as never.
Favourite lotr character?: Boromir forever and ever. It was not initially that I fell in love with him, but as someone who feels very deeply connected to my humanity and weaknesses of human kind, he just spoke to me. Also i am an older sibling and i relate to him a lot. Next in line are Faramir, Arwen and Aragorn, no order in particular.
Books or films?: both? I don’t know, depends on the mood. I love books, but movies are easier to interact with when i’m tired and i need some comfort in life. Also Viggo and Sean. So yeah, both
Tumblr media
Favourite movie: The Fellowship, but my favourite scene is from Return of the King (i hope i did not mix them up lol), deleted one with Boromir and Faramir in osgiliath
Which location in Middle Earth do you want to visit most?: Minas Tirith, the Argonath and Rivendell. I can’t pick one
Favourite scene: damn, i said it in the previous one. But yeah, the osgiliath scene from the extended edition of rotk, but also from fotr sword fighting learning scene with Boromir, Pippin, Merry and Aragorn, it’s such a sweet moment. And this specific second of walking through Moria
Tumblr media
Favourite quote: You were quick enough to trust the Elves. Have you so little faith in your own people? Yes, there is weakness. There is frailty. But there is courage also, and honour to be found in Men.
Which middle earth race would you like to be?: Human of númenor. As i said i am very deeply connected to my humanity, so there is literally no other race I would be
Favourite lotr ship: I love aragorn/boromir. Always forever my otp. But i also like boromir/theodred and poly ship aragorn/boromir/arwen (yes i know it’s canonically even more stupid than any other, let me enjoy)
Tagging (no pressure at all): @fenharel-enaste @borom1r @hippodameia @frodothefair @from-the-coffee-shop-in-edoras @horsewithaface @ass-deep-in-demons @brigwife

Hi!
Sooooo, I was wallowing in self pity because there was no HWFG (no pressure to write or update! I just can’t be normal about that story) so I went to check your ao3 and was surprised to see that you’re a fellow James Norrington truther! It inspired me to rewatch the first two pirates of the Caribbean movies and I kinda fell into the norrington rabbit hole again.
That made me read fallen through time and I honestly became OBSESSED so when I was done with the chapters you posted for that story I immediately turned to catch the wind and,,,,,,, [insert unhinged meme about ripping out guts]. I started reading it on Saturday and I couldn’t put it down so I read through two nights and am now tired as fuck, sitting at work, trying to appear busy while still reading your story. What have you done to me!!! I just read the wedding night chapter (I’m going insane, that had no business being so hot???) and honestly, that was so rewarding? Very well written smut aside, the slow burn was soooo good and there were moments where I had actual tears in my eyes??? Theo’s pain when she overheard Elizabeth accepting James‘ proposal? AH!!!! I adore their relationship. The banter, the soft moments, their conflict, their quiet conversations (though I must say I maybe even like it more in fallen through time? He’s just so mean, suspicious and stupid at times in that one, I live for that). I feel like theyre the definition of „she fell first, he fell harder“ and at one point i was really reminded of something I’ve read elsewhere… it was something like „you’re looking at me with purpose“ and that’s just so spot on for James? He’s so devoted to her it makes my heart melt.
On that note, it’s so impressive how much research you’ve done?! And how much thought you’ve put into everything? It’s not easy to write for that time period (I say as a person with two degrees in history lol), especially when it comes to balancing the cultural differences between norrington and Theo? That made everything even more fun to read.
And it’s so impressive how you manage to have this story follow the events of the movies but for it to never become boring or repetitive? You manage to capture the characters we all know and love so well while also making them your own. Your James, of course, is spot on, but also Elizabeth and will? And in all honesty, I maybe like your jack sparrow more than the canon one. He serves as comic relief so much that you sometimes forget he’s a seasoned pirate and much more intelligent, provident and even dangerous than one might think. He feels much more human in your story in my opinion. And that moment where he returns to Tortuga and confronts Theo about the cannibals? I laughed so loud that my bf woke up lol
Okay so I’ll stop rambling now, I just wanted to drop by to tell you how much I love your work and how glad I am that I checked out your norrington/theo stuff. Theo is amazing and I love them both so much. My boss just left the building and I sure will spend the rest of my time at work today reading, they don’t pay me enough anyway. I so hope that her attempt at changing James’ fate will work out and I’m very anxious but also excited to find out where this all goes!
Sending love and appreciation from Germany!
I know I'm on a tumblr break but this is too nice and it has me crying too much to leave it to gather dust in my inbox 🫠🫠🫠
Thank you so so so so SO much!!!
Honestly Catch the Wind will always have a special place in my heart (the people who have sat and watched me continue to talk about it ~14 months after it was finished are like "we know, babe") because I wrote it like, being somewhat fond of Norrington but mostly to get the idea for a Boromir fic out of my system, and instead I ended up sick over Norrington and still writing the Boromir fic anyway. Buuut I mean I got my favourite project so far out of it so I can't complain, I just laugh at how I played myself. Tbf tho, it was a great thing because POTC was a great stepping stone towards even more intimidating LOTR territory!
I'm so glad the smut was decent, too! That was the first story I've ever written it for and I was so nervous about it 💀 I do completely agree with your view on Theo and James as a couple though - the falling first/harder, and the "you're looking at me with purpose" both. I just don't think he'd ever be the type to get complacent. He's not a man who lays on the charm to win the girl, before thinking "what's the point in continuing to try?" once he "has" her. I see him as being such a ride or die, insanely loyal, "that is my WIFE", Gomez Addams coded guy, I love him for it. Those sitcom coded jokes where a guy hates his wife the second he marries her would be the very opposite of his kind of thing. That's why I had so much fun giving him that back in Theo, considering Elizabeth doesn't return his feelings in the movies.
And I mean, I don't think he's owed that from her and I don't think less of her for not returning those feelings, she can't help it (although I do raise my eyebrows at anybody who'd choose Will over The Noz, but people are allowed to be wrong ig), and I think if anything it'd be worse if she did marry him in the end without having that same level of feeling, but it was just so nice to give him someone as dedicated to him as he was to her in Theodora 🥹 I also think Boromir has a lot of that in him, so I'm very excited about his future with Sybil.
I'm also so thrilled to hear the research went appreciated - a lot of it was very fun, like if I hadn't done an Eng Lit/Creative Writing degree, I would've gone into history (I actually almost did do a second degree in history but the funding didn't work out, so I stick to just reading a lot, which I'm cool with), and like most of it was fun, but there were times when I was googling a) the origin of the coffee table, and b) 18th century equivalents of a coffee table/accent table at 4am for the sake of one throwaway line where I did wonder about my path in life. I swear, I deep-dived into it in the notes usually because I at least wanted to make it clear when I had done my research vs when I was knowingly deviating (a few unknowing mistakes did slip through but I think how much research otherwise went into it kind of makes people more willing to overlook a mistake here and there?) but also because it meant I could get more out of said research binges than just one unnoticeable line in a random paragraph 🤡
And JACK. God. I could write a dissertation on Jack. What they do to his character in movies 4/5 are 90% of the reason I don't like them and have only seen them once each. The other 10% is that uhhh they're just crap. Like it's so, so clear in the first three - mainly because of JD's fab acting - that the eccentric thing masks a lot of intelligence and cunning. He'll do his whole "weirdo" shtick, and I don't even think it's entirely an act, I think he is truly eccentric to an extent, but there'll just be these really brief moments where there's just a gleam in his eye, or he'll be suddenly serious for 0.5 seconds and you see what's going on behind the mask, and you realise it is a mask. Whereas in 4/5 it turns into a thing of "idiot who bumbles around and finds his way by sheer luck", which was never what he was in the trilogy.
I also think his crew's reaction to him shows that he is more than willing to be a hardass captain when it comes to it - the moment off of the top of my head is when Cotton's parrot goes "walk the plank" in movie two and his gun is immediately out and he's not happy and they all kinda startle a bit. But even without glimpses like that, like, they're pirates. If he was weak, and he wasn't willing to be stern and not take shit, they wouldn't follow him, and he wouldn't be half as infamous as he is. They know he's odd, but it's clear they respect him, so he must have earned that respect.
He was the one I was most scared of having to write going into this thing (along with Barbossa and Beckett), because he's so easy to get wrong. I'm always so, so thrilled when I hear I did him justice!
Okay, I have written you an entire dissertation here, so I'll stop now and just say again THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH!!!! 💜💜💜 I've read this like ten times since I first received it, it had me grinning like an idiot every single time, I'm so grateful -- and I hope you like what I have in store for HWFG! The wait shouldn't be tooo long, I'm taking April off of posting but not writing, so ideally I'll have something to post in the very beginning of May!
(and I'll reply to your other ask in a bit, I just wanted to make it clear I wasn't ignoring this!!)

This is just me rambling about the lotr musical I just saw spoilers for the watermill theatre production of lotr!!
In no particular order
HOLYMOLY THAT WAS SO GOOD ARRGGRGReatsit
First off I was expecting a new musical (for context there was another musical first performed in 2006 I think) BUT IT WASNT at least the songs weren't I'm not sure about the script since its insanely hard to find anything on it APART from the songs, they can be found online even on Spotify! Point is I thought it was a new one BUT THEN THEY STARTED PLAYING ROAD GOES ON AND MY ASS FELL OFF ISTG Seeing that og musical has been a DREAAAM OF MINE BUT THEY DON'T PLAY IT ANYMORE OR SO I THOOOOOUUUGHT
The music is insane actually it's so good!!!
When I saw the elves and realised they wouldn't have long hair unless the actor already did I was a little nervous since I just find its difficult to portray elves without the iconic long hair BUT MY GOD THEY'RE GOOD I don't know what these guys did compaired to the short hair elves of lotr prime BUT IT WOOOORKS legolas was perfect and GALADRIEL the actress has stage presence if I've ever seen it!!! She had this for lack of a better word fuck ass bob with a gold wreath thing and a PANT SUIT SHE'S MENTAL I LOVE HER!!!
Her voice is insane there was a moment where a group of people all sang together and they seemed to be singing at the usual stage level right but here voice just boomed iver the whole group it was amazing! She was so loud but she did it well!! I find often when people sing that loud it's like shouting but not in a good way, she was SINGING it was beautiful. She captured galadriels aura and power so well every time she was on stage I just wanted to stare at her.
aragorn was so GOOOOD he also sounded a lot like Orlando bloom to me lmao. His outfit was actually perfection and his haircut??? HE HAD this shaved sides thing going on and???!?!?! I THINK I LIKE IT MORE THAN MOVIE ARAGORN DARE I SAY???
Don't even get started on arwen dude. THE COSTUME DESINERS DID AMAZING WITH HER DRESS AND THE ACTRESS CAPTURED HER SO WELL her ethereal feel with a slight bit of young wonderUUuGGHHhHh screams. Her voice is also actually insane I'm chewing bark.
Frodo was done so wellLLLLLLL the moments when he got taken over by the ring were so distinctly not Frodo!! The actor switched between the two moments so flawlessly!! It was like he was playing two people.
AND SAAAm what a sweetheart he is he's perfect in every way can do no wrong ever ever!! His voice was so pretty I'm gonna goble him up for real. Also I think he got slapped in the face?!? I couldn't see it perfectly but that slam sounded very real with the noise so I wouldn't be shocked. Dedication woa.
GIIIMLI meow meow meow he's so good bald king<<<3333 HIS OUTFIT?? punch me in the face please thanks. Bro his face when legolas was being sassy to him MF said >:000 I LOVE HIS PORTRAAAAAAIIIL UGggghhhHHH he's perfect in every way everyone stay back from my bald king RAAAA
Boromir my pookie gone too soon <333 his outfit was so good his actor was so good EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD UUUGH Meow when he held frodo wrists to get him to stay I was like 🤨🤨🤨🤨😏😏😏 LOTR MUSICAL IS JUST FULL OF HOT PEOPLE
OMGOD GANDALF UUUGH HE WAS AMAZING idk why I thought he's be played by a younger guy in makeup?? Getting an actually older actor makes way more sense and HE WAS AMAZING
Saruman, elrond and golem were all played by this one guy and it was so good?? You could tell visually like his face that it was all him but he differentiates the characters SOOO well!! Bald elrond will haunt my dreams though..
MERRY AND PIPPIN UUUGHGHHG I love I love they made a tiny tweak to pip which was that since he was played by a lovely actress pip was referred to as a girl, but it was done very well! Nothing about the character changed, personality, story beats, outfit, everything was still pippin the only difference was a few she's here and there which is very much how this thing should be done :)) if you do need to or want to switch and characters gender it's good to keep them the same in other aspects otherwise they just come across as a new character with a familiar name! But that didn't happen here at all, the actress portrayed pip amazingly
Merry was also so good! His voice was amazing and he was so charming!
THE OOOORCS they were amazing. They were so unsettling!! I wasn't sure how they were going to play them but they had this gassmask type thing on it was so good! Everytime they came in I was excited to see them.
The way they did the nazgul was so fun. They were these skeleton horse head puppets!! They opened their mouths so wide it was really unsettling!!
AND THE SPIIIIDERRR everyone gasped when the spider came on. They opened these big doors in the back of the theatre right and she didn't even walk on she was right there! She was huge. She's this big puppet maned by like it's gotta be six or seven people SHE WAS AMAZING
AND OH OH OH THE FIRST AND LAST SCENES WERE OUTSIDE bilbos party was out in the garden!! We all got to sit around and the hobbit came and spoke to us all like we were invited to the party! Bilbo came out and asked me if I had eaten today if was great!! Speaking of which he was SOO GOOOOD
ANNNNDD they mentioned Tom!! WOOO at the end gandalf spoke about going to speak with Tom bombadil! We all had a giggle it was fun
It was just generally amazing all round
