AKA Talented Mutuals Tuesday

Except I spent so long making this list that the timezones changed over BUT I wanted to show my mutuals some love and now that we are going into the hiatus I thought you might all like a list of quality fics to keep you occupied while there is no new Weewoo show.

I don't know if anyone will actually want to join in on this but if you do the rules are simple:

Buck challenges Eddie to try to hit on him after teasing Eddie for not having any ‘game’. This fic is very funny and very soft.

believe in one thing (i won't go away)

This fic hit me straight in the feels. Buck and Eddie go to couples therapy even though they aren't a couple and they work through some stuff.

How to Cure Boredom: Buckley Edition

The 118 are stuck at the firehouse during a slow shift and Buck entertains them all by mattress-surfing the loft stairs. It’s soft and silly and in the same universe as her other fic Safe in His Arms.

I will scream from the rafters how much I adore this fic and yes it did make me cry (happy tears). It’s a look into Buck’s head after his sperm donor kid is born and he realizes what Christopher (and Eddie) truly mean to him. I know I have recced this before but it deserves all the love.

Unless You Ask Me To

Eddie dates a man for the first time, and Buck is completely 'Fine'. This is a preemptive rec because it is one chapter away from completion and I have been saving it to binge in one sitting but knowing Jenwyn and her incredible talent I guarantee this will be worth the read.

Buck finally tells Eddie he loves him right before Eddie’s new boyfriend is supposed to meet Christopher. Honestly, all I can say about this fic is that it’s a masterpiece and I screamed many times while reading it.

Jiminy by Bear Ghost has been on repeat for me frequently since it released last fall!

Wow, I genuinely was not expecting to like this as much as I did. When I first started listening I was kind of like "Ahh, this kinda sounds like something that would get pretty big as a Tiktok sound for a hot second because someone made a Hazbin Hotel shipping fancam". Kinda got some Will Wood stuff, some Jukebox The Ghost stuff (specifically around the Off To The Races era where they really embraced the Queen comparisons), and I was like, okay i'll probably pretty well enjoy this but nothing especially spectacular here. Then I got to the end of the first song, After Me, The Flood and it had that big glitched out part into Heavy News and I was like. Ohhhhh... OKAY....

I still stand by what I said absolutely though, like especially with Will Wood comparison, specifically like the sort of showtune-like aspects to a lot of the individual tracks on the records, which is probably where the "Tiktok shipping fancam" feeling comes from (see Peas & Love, I feel like that song was carefully designed in a lab to have a bouncy, exciting, decent to well edited video of two characters that hate each other and want each other to die but the fandom desperately needs them to have a moment). It's pretty clear this album wants to be like, somewhat culture critical about the current state of some parts of society, but honestly a lot of the lyrics really fall short of necessarily saying anything particularly interesting about the matter and just come off as pretty juvenile in that regard. Like, Rivers is a Vampire is clearly about high society and excess and sucking out the life from everything and its a great song for sure but its also just like. Yeah you sure did the rich people vampire metaphor again! Which is also another point towards it being very Tiktok consumable. That being said I'm only kind of using "tiktok consumable" as a pejorative here, but it is why I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much.

Anyway this album has a pretty clear tonal voice here, like the songs do not really dip out of that same, bright, showtune-like quality, so there's not really many moments where the album slows down and takes a break from how hyper it is, which maybe as a full album is not such a good thing, but a lot of these songs individually would be a really great playlist spot.

I'm realizing now that most of this review has sounded like, extremely negative about the whole album, which is funny because so far this is like the most fun I've had listening and catching up with these music asks, I've already listened to the album through like 2 or 3 times and skipped around and re-listened to my fave tracks so. I don't really know what that means for my long term feelings about this album, but as it stands,

I'm feeling a really good 8/10 on this one

if I was pretty drunk and in a great mood I'm sure this album would've hit like 9/10 for me. I'm really into it, I might check out some of Bear Ghost's earlier stuff and see if I'd like it as much.

Can I ask you what program do you use for the animatic? And can you recommend any good program for practice? (I never used any of these programs, and they look pretty hard, so I don't want to pay yet for one, but I want to make something :c)

Hello! This might be a bit long but I hope I can help you with this (I'm holding your hand because this is also my first time doing an animatic so I have no idea on what kind of good pipeline there is to follow...) I apologize in advance if this won't be the most helpful answer :,))

okay so for the software. I use the ipad for most of my work nowadays... unfortunately, both apps that I use are paid—RoughAnimator and Procreate. I'll walk you down with how I do it. It is not the most efficient way but here's how it goes for me... :,))

Storyboard

I think the most important thing for planning something like this is having a clear vision of what you want to see. I started this animatic by brainstorming in my storyboards what I want to see in timing with the song and its lyrics. Here's an example of what I previously shared... [disclaimer: I did not follow the template so yeah, feel free to ignore the kanji characters]

you can see the outline I roughly made to tell myself what scene I want to show to what lyrics (I got lazy to write the whole lyrics down lol) and also added some notes like the movement of the character and camera pans etc.

here are the corresponding drawings to it (sorry if the quality is bad, I just screenshotted this from my gallery ><;;)

Drawing the Cuts

All of the drawings are done on Procreate. I use this software for most of my drawings now, mostly because I like the texture of the brushes there. At this point, I am not worrying about timing these drawings to the music yet but I am reassured since I already made my guide of that in the storyboards. Procreate also has an animation feature that helped me draw the breathing sequence.

Compiling and Timing the Drawings

Once I've saved my drawings to my photos, I move them to RoughAnimator. Here is where I time the drawings with the song. What I like about RoughAnimator is that it has its own drawing tools (I don't really like the brushes tho... hence, me using Procreate instead), it has a camera tool that allows me to pan across my drawings and also shows the sound wave thingy of the song that helps me with timing. It also allows me to easily adjust the exposure or how long a drawing flashes on the screen at my chosen framerate.

I would sometimes be unsatisfied with my initial drawings, leading to me going back and forth between Procreate and RoughAnimator to revise stuff. (which in my opinion is not efficient but I can't really think of any other way to do this...)

So yes. That's pretty much how I'm working with it so far. I am currently stuck because both Procreate and RoughAnimator have very limited features when it comes to panning images... I'm still figuring out how to do that but I'm thinking of moving to video editors for these kinds of stuff instead of relying on RoughAnimator...

I hope you aren't discouraged by this,, I know it isn't the best solution... If you are to follow this kind of workflow, I think a good combination of any drawing software (hopefully with an animation feature) and a reliable video editor to time it to the music (I recommend finding ones with camera pan and motion tween features) is sufficient enough for this.

If you're using an ipad like me, iArtbook is a good free alternative to Procreate with a good animation feature. I have yet to check it out properly but Filmora or Capcut might be a good video editor... If you're using a desktop, I think Krita is good for drawing and animating!

I'm so sorry again if this wasn't really helpful. I will definitely share it if I were to find a better workflow for this. If you'd like to have some storyboard templates, here are some I found on the internet!

in this seventh issue you will see..

tzuyu's overall career reading (like future check) in her hometown: honestly it's not that bad as it can seems. i can see she would actually love to at least try to establish her individual relevance back in her hometown (i am not sure about china by its own since both countries are in its own conflict and until everything is resolved between them and possibly others, taiwan is independent by its own, so i asked separately about taiwan). however, due to that controversy she had when she wasn't even 18, she is aware of the hardships it can bring. as much as tzuyu would like to try again, it's only fair if the taiwanese audience want to give her a chance by itself. i personally doubt jype shut her out in this perspective/possibility, but they just don't have opinion. if taiwan wants her, ok, but only then.

how vcha view twice: collectively, they see the senior group as very ambitious people who work ready hard to achieve their goals. i can see also admiration, possibly even idolization from vcha's side, and respectfully why.

how wonyoung feels about either way's lyrics: i can see that she relates to the lyrics based on her experiences, it was like a shock to her. up to that, i really don't see anything else as she doesn't want to share more, it's really personal how she feels.

if someone from ive has solo career in the future, will ive promote as a group like now?: um, yeah, i see they'll be still promoted but like, it won't be the fucking same. i do see a member who will be the most affected out of all (since noone has fire sun, then moon/dominant planet/etc.) because they will still want the solo career that member has. i do see some sort of mistreatment and even mismanagement to some extent but that will be the only issue as of now.

babymonster, career reading, 2026: i do see postpoment for that tour yge is planning in 2025. due to uncontrollable and unstable reasons from the earlier year, i am not even sure.. i am sorry if i happen to be ffs wrong but are they living in a lie? around that time, of course. look. the girls will be even more full of postpontments and any sort of delays and the only beneficial thing i actually see here is either a tour or activities outside of south korea. i am still not sure they will be 7 and .. ahyeon doesn't seem to be the reason why.

ygnbg check: they're still on postponement :) i don't see someone specific, they really gave up for now. (that person also asked for anyone standing out and possibly ethinicities and all that shit, i cannot say anything when yge stopped working on them for unspecified time)

how jay (enhypen) feels about sunghoon?: jay believes he is fair and responsible person. he appreciates that sunghoon might do multiple things at once as of now, and also that quality of his that he can get revenge if there is some sort of unfairness. quite wild person when it's needed.

jake (enhypen), general reading: from what i see, currently he is more focused on work than ever. i do see some workaholic tendencies from jake himself, so honestly he has to be careful to not overwork himself at this point. i don't see anything else. he might work harder for perfomance, stage, tour, next comeback, i have no clue.

why the issue with chaeyoung's red face happened years ago: whoever uploaded that video with the thumbnail in question, don't want chaeyoung to continue as a public person. i'd even say they cursed her in some way, at least from what i see. they seem to like other members more than her.

babymonster, first comeback, career reading: since blackpink have resigned with the company as a group (i am making difference between individual contracts and group ones!!), yge have more money to continue with babymonster, which for them is good. however, this leads from the company's side to literally "abuse" k-netizens with baemon's presence even more with the girls' first comeback. i can see ahyeon's eventual choice influencing the girls' first comeback the most, and rightfully so. however, due to uncertain outlooks the energy of babymonster's first comeback is really shaky because as of now ahyeon priorities her health.

does jype's founder want wonyoung in his company?: as much as he would love to, he would prefer to save her from the company he founded, jyp himself might be actually aware of its tactics :)

what does baemon (ot6 without ahyeon) think of ahyeon's break: they are too anxious, possibly because of her actual relevance. i'd say they were unaware of what is happening and perhaps they overthink everything: was she lying, is she actually okay, what will happen to baemon now.. i am unsure if they actually care about ahyeon herself because they seem to care much more about how much they earn individually rather than ahyeon's actual mentality/wellbeing as of now and even if they care about her, that's not their main concern.

why txt had this much scandals the recent months: i do see someone certain who want to (i am sorry but) destroy the group. they seem to have very negative energy that is invented towards (allegedly) the group and the company's team. i can see that the best thing they (bhm's team) do is to ignore the threats and etc. towards them (txt included). i see that it might've been way worse for txt but they survived through it and whatever was going to be released/revealed/etc. didn't got public in the end.

will txt be as relevant as before: with the time i believe so but it will really take some time.

how the recent scandals txt had will affect the group?: not much, they seem to have learned some lessons from this point in their group career but apart from that nothing much :|

"next so-called bts (allegedly!!)", more info (UPDATE): they haven't debuted and if they will, as of now it will be up to 8 months. i do see the past group i saw as the "next bts" was for some reason fifty fifty, so now I do see different group. i still see the next group that might have similar releavance as bts will allegedly be girl one. however, i am not sure if the company the group will be in will be from sme/jype/yge/hybe or smaller one (with budget and etc.), i see the company the girls are in have some setbacks, such as delays, financial issues and so on, so in the case where (from what I see) almost all of big4 companies have more or less financial issues (i don't see hybe being affected and if it is, they're the least out of these 4) i am unsure if the company is big or not. it seems to be bigger but i am not sure if it's from big3+hybe.

will the companies that make international groups with western companies do well?: ah.. about that.. only hybe seems to do well.. i checked hybe, jype and sme since i am aware only for these 3 companies. compared to VCHA and the group between SME and .. idk, that UK company, or that USA one, i cannot remember atp, KATSEYE seems to do really well. maybe not as well as the other two but better, I guess.. they can do well and although not as well as some of their other groups, they will be just fine, i guess. VCHA on the other hand seem to rely mainly on the company USA is managing them and on their fanbase that is gained from the k-pop community that are fans of groups that are currently active in jype. that seems to not work well for them and they won't apparently gain more new fans as a group. therefore, restrictions will be inevitable. they might work out if they are similar as xg but up to that, i guess. sme on the other hand, they are completely different situation especially when I see there will be isolation towards sme. honestly, i do see similar try as jype when they did tried to make wonder girls relevant in usa but didn't work but worse.

will ahyeon return to babymonster: as of now, yes, i see she will probably return. she wants to.

I really like between friends generally, something is so tragic and messy but easy and simple about the kind of relationships sung about. It drives me a little crazy tbh. The gentleness about Gushers and the almost underwater quality of the music akdbsjs. I can't it's soosososo good

beautiful waste - Beauty School Dropout

Honestly the line "I get heart palpitations when I think of you naked" goes so hard. Once again it's tragic. It's one-sided. It's in my percico playlist for a reason.

Exit Wounds - Placebo

Again with the chorus being a banger line "want you so bad I can taste it" um ??? Excuse me??? That makes me feel physically sick /positive. Also! Another one-sided but this time! They're exes! Also the line "And at night, under covers, as he's sliding into you, does it set your sweat on fire?" HELLO???

STUPID IN LOVE - MAX, HUH YUNJIN

Absolute devotion and recklessness and oh my godddd. This is also in my percico playlist cuz thats really all I listen to. The songs a banger or it wouldn't be in this list but like "let's get married in Vegas, we don't need a guest list, we dont need to think too much" nnghhh it's sooo good I love it so much.

Falling Behind - Laufey

Laufey is another one of those artists that I just really like their music. Falling behind is especially great bc it's about feeling like you're 'falling behind' bc everyone else is in a romantic relationship. "Cause the sun's engaged to the sky" even inanimate objects are depicted as being romantically involved and as an aromantic this really hits home

Hold Me Like A Grudge - Fall Out Boy

Honestly? This song was picked out for my percio playlist because it fit so well and after listening to it a couple more times it grew on me. It's a fucking banger. It's really good music to scream-cry to (or imagine ur fav charcters scream-crying to) Fall Out Boy has mid ass lyrics honestly but the chorus is good (ie the title of the song)

dui - estelle allen

Fully in love with this song. It has an eerie feel to it (amplified by the dhmis-esque music video) and something about the sound of blood-curdling screams really adds to a song. It kinda hurts to listen to though 💀💀

HAHA - Lil Darkie

"When the jester gets mad, put a gun to his head" followed by mocking laughter goes so hard. So hard. This whole song is amazing 10/10 no notes. I love me a good power-ballad. Especially when looking at his other music which is SO different

OXOX - Dutch Melrose, Lost Boy

here's where I reveal that I really like overtly sexual songs. "That push, that pull, that force that draws me into your direction" ughhhh it's such a good song especially to play on loop. Idk I listen to really sexual songs when I do hw to Pavlov myself into not hating it. It kinda works.

Sloppy Seconds (Ick Pt. 2) - Lay Bankz

And here's another really good, really sexual song that I listen to while I do hw. "Fuck her, flip her, bend her backward, baby put your back into it" banger!!! It's a good song!! Perfect for playing on loop (it's like three verses that repeat)

@/wallowshq [ leah (@wallowshq) ] the biggest wallows fan account (that i know of) on instagram - they post cool stuff very regularly and are very quick to post any band news. they also have highlights up with all the setlists from the tmtio tour!

@/duhwallows [ abby (@duhwallows) ] firstly a funny name, secondly another of the biggest wallows accounts (that i know of) on instagram - they also post very regularly and have very good quality posts, plus they're very helpful if you have questions about tour or other wallows info.

@/wallowsarchive [ gab ☆ (@wallowsarchive) ] this account is pretty cool, they basically post random pics of wallows, not necessarily the most recent ones, so it's basically like a blast from the past/nostalgia account lol.

@/inmywallowsera [ rose :) (@inmywallowsera) ] one of my two favs on this list! the admin, rose, is so sweet and very down to earth, plus she posts a lot of ig stories and they're always so sweet! she always seems so genuinely happy for people who go see the band live or meet the band members around in public, which is lovely to see. also, this account is especially one for the braeden girlies hehe >:)

@/wallowsdni [ totally normal wallows fans (@wallowsdni ] my other fav! this account is so odd but it's absolutely hilarious and every time i see one of their posts i laugh a lot harder than i should. the admins are super cool & friendly too so i'd say def check them out if you like dumb wallows memes (check out my next post bc i'm gonna post some of their stuff bc it's so funny oml).

@/evilwallowsmusic [ wallows shitposting (@evilwallowsmusic) ] similar to wallowsdni (the previous account on this list), they post mildly idiotic wallows memes, which are very funny. also fun fact: the wallowshq admin is also one of the two admins of this account!

@/wallowslyricss [ no.1 hurts me stan (@wallowslyricss) ] this account is so aesthetically pleasing omg - basically they post wallows song lyrics printed on book pages (like those aesthetic pictures of book quotes you see as part of ig photo dumps/pinterest aesthetic boards etc). plus on a personal level they claim to be the number one hurts me stan (so i guess i've been relegated to number 2 lol), which i love because i think hurts me deserves a lot more appreciation.

I was so excited about UMK this year but now that all the songs are out I'm so disappointed and I need to process this somehow, so...below the cut is my (cynic) review of the songs this year, I wrote this for me but you may look ✨

Keira: No Business on the Dancefloor

I hadn't heard of her before, so I had no idea what to expect. She sings well, but there's nothing too special in the song. Songs similar to this advance to the ESC final every year, but I don't think this one's interesting enough to do that. (Also, I'm scared to even ask but can someone explain the line "swing it like Harry Potter" to me? I haven't read the books nor seen the movies, what did he ever swing? His broom? His peepee? lol)

Benjamin: Hoida mut

I don't know, man... There are songs that imply sexual content without being explicitly sexual that do it better than this one. The lyrics sound immature, in parts (maybe less so in the English translation), and I'm not a fan of how some of the words are stressed/emphasized. Not a huge fan of Benjamin's singing voice either, and he is definitely the weakest singer in the whole bunch.

Robin Packalen: Girls Like You

Robin was the very reason why I was so excited about UMK this year and, consequently, the reason why I'm so disappointed in this year's competition overall. I had such grand expectations for him, perhaps unreasonably so; I just really wanted him to have a great song and be sent to ESC and do well there 😔 However, having listened to the song on Spotify (i.e. without the mv), I have to say that the song isn't terrible. It's actually quite catchy and uptempo, and in my opinion the vibe in the music video doesn't quite match the vibe of the song. So IF they manage to compile a live show that brings out the good qualities of the song (because there are some!) and IF/when Robin's voice brings the song into life in the live version (because it certainly doesn't do so in the studio version), I think we MIGHT be able to ignore the weaknesses of the song (such as the tacky lyrics; then again, there have been and will be songs with even worse lyrics in the ESC every year, this one wouldn't even be the worst eh?)

Lxandra: Something to Lose

Not memorable at all (I couldn't even recall the name of this song without checking it). Really not my kind of music, not a fan of that kind of singing technique at all. If you're gonna do a ballad in the ESC, it needs to be bigger and stronger than this one.

Käärijä: Cha Cha Cha

Without having seen the live show for this, I must admit I'm also one of those people who are ready to send this to Liverpool. That is not to say I love the song, although it is the only one that evokes any kind of (positive) feelings in me. I don't know, maybe I feel pretentious jamming along to this song because I don't go to bars safe for Samy Elbanna acoustic gigs and BC tumblr meetings and I've never been drunk in my life? 😂 Still, it was the first song that I nodded my head along to and that brought a smile to my face (for some reason the line "toinen silmä jo karsastaa" / "one eye keeps turning crossed too far" always cracks me up). I'm just a little annoyed because people (mostly at the Finnish eurovision discussion board I've been reading) keep praising this song to the extent that I think it's a little over the top, saying stuff like "this is the best UMK song ever!!" and "this is the new Lordi!!" but like...it's not?! Or is it me who's in the wrong here? 😟 I don't know, maybe I should just lower my expectations and accept that I'm not gonna get another "Dark Side" out of UMK any time soon...

KUUMAA: Ylivoimainen

Another song that is praised a lot and I'm not quite sure why. Again, it's not a bad song, but something in it just feels...off. I think it's partly because I'm not a huge fan of Johannes' vocals/singing voice, but also because of the lyrics. I understand it's about the ecstasy one feels when falling in love, (and I want you to know that I'm saying the following even though I know y'all think I'm crazy) but instead of romantic, the lyrics seem sort of...obsessive? Every single line in the song is so desperate to the point that it makes me feel a little anxious. Yes, I also understand that song lyrics and poetry tend to exaggerate things and that none of this is to be taken literally, but even so, it doesn't evoke the feelings in me that it's probably intented to. If someone told me that "there's nothing left for me but you" I wouldn't feel enamored, I'd feel...sad? Because what if a day comes that we break up and you don't have me anymore, then what? You'll jump down the balcony? I don't want to be the only thing that's left for you, come on, there's gotta be something else in your life too, I can't handle this pressure! And with the sort of melancholic, yet upbeat melody of the song it feels kinda distressing and I almost feel like I can't breath when I listen to it. Then again, I've never been in love myself, so what the fuck do I know? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Portion Boys: Samaa taivasta katsotaan

Well 😂😂😂😂😂 In Finland we have this thing called junttidisco, and this is it. I have good reason to believe their other songs are like this too (I've only ever heard two of them), so what the hell were you expecting? 🤣 This is the only song that made me really laugh out loud (with Käärijä it was more like a sensible chuckle), but not necessarily in a good way. The lyrics in the verses are so cringe, although I did love the bit in the chorus about Kimi Räikkönen 😂 The worst part is that I'm not sure whether this is intented as a parody or if they're actually serious about this. I want to believe it's done tongue in cheek, in which case I appreciate them not taking themselves too seriously.

To conclude, I don't really give a fuck who will advance to Liverpool, but I guess if we absolutely must send one, then let it be Käärijä, assuming his live show will be fit for ESC. And despite having a horribly boring, mainstream, flavourless song, I still want to put Robin as my 2nd favourite, because I want to believe the live version of the song will be much better than the studio version 🙏

🐾 Almost to the DAY, this song just hit 11 years old. It was uploaded on January 2, 2012! That would absolutely mean I originally created this song on my iPod Touch using the app Music Studio by Xewton. This song is so old that you can not find it on my current SoundCloud account because it was before I even knew how to use SoundCloud [effectively]. I believe I created that account with my Facebook account, which got deleted years ago and so I can no longer access it. "The lyrics, at first, make no sense, but they are about life...just like Electronic music is." I mean, I know his music was essentially my inspiration to start making music (honestly, a poor inspiration for someone like me, but at least I started and moved away from that style), but I don't know why I decided to use that as tags. 🐾 Anyway, this song, clearly, has been completely redone. ALL in FL Studio. I recall wanting to revisit this song a few times in the past, but the main issue stopping me from doing so back then was the one sound that persists throughout. Obviously, with a simple app like Xewton Music Studio, there were a lot of basic, "legacy" sounds available. The "orchestral hit" was one of them. I don't know what compelled me to use that in this song, but ever since then, I've not been able to find a sound that sounded similar to it but of higher quality. Until I found the Orchestral plugin by Edirol, that is! (Honestly, it's sad that it's been abandoned because it's such a good plugin and I still use it but it isn't maintained, so now small things like me using 4K monitors causing the plugin to appear incredibly small are things I have to deal with). (also, I don't remember if it was that plugin or FLEX by FL Studio but I don't want to reopen FL Studio right now to check because this whole project has taken far too long and I just want to be done with these songs now.) BUT, now that I found a decent version of that sound, I went ahead and recreated the song from scratch. Answers to possible questions: - The lyrics are self-explanatory. Also, yes, the lyrics are, what's known as, "microtonal", because, you know me, I like to add pointless "word painting" to my songs, so when I say "no slipping through the gaps", the vocals descend microtonally, going down from G to F in 5 steps -- G, G½♭, G♭, F½♯, F -- ...because music. - Yes, that is Arin Hanson from Game Grumps at the beginning. The title to this post was originally "Albums You May Enjoy," but I remembered after writing a bit under that phrase that I kind of hate it when the title of a piece addresses me directly like: "Things You Didn't Know About ___" or "If You Like ____, You Should Check Out ____" or "Four Things You Absolutely Need if You Don't Want to Look Like a Troglodyte to your Houseguests" -for whatever reason it feels manipulative. Like, chill- you don't know me and don't assume that your opinion has any bearing on me as a human being at all.

Whatever, here are albums I like right now, whether or not you choose to check them out, and if you disagree with me, that's great! Genuinely! Leave a comment and tell me your thoughts, if you like.

Though it may be a relaxing, acoustic listen, New Music and Big Pop has a quality to it that makes me stop what I'm doing in favor of experiencing the music on a deeper level. Comforting melodies, complex structures, and beautifully layered vocals, these songs give the impression of being produced to perfection- no aspect of them sticks out jarringly or feels out of place, the composition feels wonderfully aligned to a steady vision of the completed work. To me, the songs give a feeling of pensive calm but with a stylistic spin that is somehow evocative of garage rock or even punk. Also- listen to the whole thing.

This one I was confused by when I found it. Dan & Drum make music that, while entirely entertaining and often melodically masterful, could really belong to a genre of its own just called 'Confusing.' Generally acoustically supported with some digital effects and various production quirks, the songs on Growl Pop can vary melodically so far within each song that it can be genuinely difficult to pin down what the main carrying melody may be, if there is one at all. The odd vocals and really cool harmonies also give each tune a very variable feeling.

This is one of those albums where the "Recommended Songs" section above is pretty much irrelevant. I think the entirety of this one absolutely rocks. Reminiscent of Daft Punk, reminding me of STRFKR and Video Age and Hall & Oates and even David Bowie or the Talking Heads, it feels like Djo has listened to all of my favorite music and taken all of that as influence, and then confidently produced the most powerful possible usage of elements from all of the above. This album is appealing to me to the greatest degree- sometimes dark, sometimes passionate, sometimes bouncy, sometimes explosive, I absolutely love it. Honestly it's so appealing that it makes me wish Djo kind of went a little weirder with the songs here- the potential for something groundbreaking is present, but for now it's just rad in all the right, if familiar ways.

Digital Spool - Jazz Emu

Comedy music can be a difficult genre for many to enjoy, especially when the current musical consumption climate makes each individual's music taste a point of scrutiny and something to base one's ego around- when any song you listen to has its main value in someone else hearing you listening to it and thinking highly of you, you tend not to want your sense of humor dissected as well. If you can't relate to that, congratulations and I'm happy for you. In any case, Jazz Emu has blessed us with a treasure trove of songs absolutely spine-tinglily funktastic, with lyrics that get me smiling every time. Emu has this way of weaving the comedy into the music as well as the lyrics, which is more than most others braving the genre are able to do, and I commend him heavily for that, as well as how this album deftly and ridiculously satirizes modern internet culture, even delving into issues of contemporary masculinity, insecurity, and the odd state of being a "content creator." The rare moment of sincerity is made even more powerful after you've heard the song that has a whole section of fart noises.

From 2 to 3 - Peach Pit

Peach Pit returns, in this album, with a pretty folk-y feel, much more than previous albums. It feels like if the songs from 2018's Being So Normal were teenagers, the songs from From 2 to 3 are adults. That parallel may just be me projecting, as the former album came out and had a great impact on me when I was, in fact, a teenager, and the latter arrives with similar importance in my burgeoning adulthood, but It's not totally without base. The songwriting in question has much less garage-rock angst (not that angst is a bad thing), the metaphors are much more refined, it really feels like Peach Pit's style has settled into a very comfortable era where nothing feels forced and the style is solid without being monotonous. An album like this could, in a very personal way, frame my decade.

Let it be known- almost every review of this album that I have seen has described it as Peach Pit's most "mature."

Color Theory - Soccer Mommy

Dark and brooding, powerful and brooding, heartfelt and brooding, you get the idea- Color Theory falls in line with the movement in modern music of seemingly very sad, wonderful women, singing their hearts out in gut-wrenching rock and roll irreverence. Artistically, Soccer Mommy very regularly knocks it out of the park for me, I envy the raw ability that she has to convey feeling directly through the medium of sound, and this album is no exception. Many of the hits here were previously released as singles, but when put together in an arrangement like this, they are made all the more powerful.

Modern Johnny Sings: Songs in the Age of Vibe, the 2020 studio album, is a masterpiece in its own right. In fact, I do even like some of the songs on it more than their versions in this Live album, but the reason that the latter is featured here is that to miss the back and forth of Katzman and the audience, the absolutely incredible keyboard solos, the times where the vocals match up perfectly to what would otherwise be called instrumental improvisation if it hadn't been immaculately practiced, and the absolutely vivid joy of performing would be a disservice to no one but yourself. A Live album like this, that makes the listener feel as though they can see the action in front of them, is a gift. There are a few too many vocal embellishments for my taste, but regardless this work is one you shouldn't pass up.

Not sure if anyone's still reading, but here's hoping I keep writing.

Okay, so I lied (unintentionally) in my last Goose post. There is, in fact, another great video of another great jam from the Thekla show. I think I forgot about it because it's not twenty-five minutes long.

Anyway, this will be the first time but certainly not the last time I do a write-up on a version of "All I Need." This song has been a jam vehicle in the heart of Goose sets since I started listening in 2019 and, while it's taken a backseat in more recent days to newer, shinier songs, any time it does get played you can count on it to at least take you on a nice trip around the block, though occasionally it will instead drop you into the heart of a black hole (this version is more the former than the latter). If I can make a Phish comparison (because, in my imagination, it serves the audience I pretend reads these posts), it's sort of analogous to how "Down With Disease" fits into the Phish catalog these days: old, once-great warhorse that's still good for high-quality if not necessarily mind-bending jams.

One more thing you should know about this song before we jump in, especially because it's something that'll be very relevant when I write about the Goosemas "Mirror Planet" set soon: "All I Need" has two different arrangements. I don't think I've written about this yet, but one of my favorite somewhat unique things about Goose when I first got into them was that they had multiple songs that were played in different ways on different nights. The first example of this that I was aware of (and also the clearest example) is the difference between the songs "So Ready" and "Slow Ready."

As you can probably intuit from their titles, these are the same basic song (same lyrics, melody, chords, etc.) but the "original" version is played fast, while the "alternate" version is played (you guessed it) slow. If you check out the videos I linked, or you already know the songs, obviously the differences between "So Ready" and "Slow Ready" are a bit more extensive than just changing the song's tempo, but they are also definitely different takes on the same general idea. There are also multiple arrangements of the songs "Tumble," "Indian River," "Atlas Dogs," and of course "All I Need"...as well as others that I'm sure I'm forgetting off the top of my head.

The alternate-versions-of-songs thing is important here for two reasons. First, I think it's cool as a way of injecting variation into shows, both for me as an audience members and (I assume) for the band, who clearly don't want to play the same songs the same ways every night. It's fun to go to a show knowing you might get to hear the rare, "slow" version of "Tumble," or that if you hear "So Ready" one night you might hear "Slow Ready" the next. Second, it's worth knowing before we jump in that the Thekla version of "All I Need" is the slow version. If you're interested in the differences, there are, helpfully, studio tracks of both versions!

As usual, I'm not going to go on and on about the composed part of the song here, since that's more or less the same for every take on the song (slow vs. fast versions aside). It's a Goose song, so I'm partial to it. If you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose, I'd say I like the fast arrangement better, but the slow one has become the default over the last year or two, and it's good, too. I do particularly like the mid-song piano break in the slow version, though Pete mildly biffs the transition into it in this version.

The piano solo segues into a solo from Rick, who quickly changes keys at 4:27 to lead into a longer jam (this seems to be a sort-of planned key change that the band has been executing here in a lot of recent versions of this song). I don't have a good enough ear to tell you exactly what key this is, but it seems chosen to lead to a darker, more contemplative type of jam space, at least initially. The lights are a good complement to the jam as the rhythm section holds down a foundation for Peter and Rick to slowly build on top of.

I feel like the last few jams I've covered on here have been really Rick-centric, so I'm happy that in the first few minutes of this jam, Peter's keys are a bit more prominent.

At 6:34, Rick starts alternating (I think: again, not the best ear here) between two different keys (or at least modes), introducing some tension between the early, darker space of the jam and something more uplifting. The differences between the two spaces and the precision with which the band starts switching between them once everyone gels is really cool: this isn't necessarily the most spectacular jamming I've heard from Goose, but it's something I don't hear them do very often, and that's my favorite thing about this version of "All I Need": not every jam is going to be the Best Jam Ever, but getting to hear something new at every show is what I buy tickets and drive across states hoping for.

At 10:25, the band finally stops to hang out in the more blissful space for a bit longer, and this is maybe my favorite part of the whole jam. Peter is the highlight for me, laying down washes of reverb-drenched notes, but Rick's phrasing is bonkers, and the whole rhythm section is locked in. I know there are a lot of fans out there that don't find Trevor's playing to be dynamic enough, but I completely disagree and in moments like these in particular really appreciate his ability to know (to engage in an (in)famous paraphrase) what notes not to play.

We rip back into the aggressive side of the jam at 11:19, and while I can't complain about what it basically Goose's take on a 90s "Slave To The Traffic Light" jam, it would have been great to get more of that reverb-y vibey goodness...

...but I digress. This last transition leads smoothly back into "All I Need" proper, and they wrap up the song from there.

One of the many things I've really appreciated from Goose in 2023 is their increasing ability to get really deeply into really engaging improvisation quickly: in past years, nearly all of my favorite jams have been twenty-plus-minute monsters, but this year I'm finding just as many ten- or twelve-minute jams that are worth listening back to. I think this "All I Need" (and most other versions from this fall) is a great example of that.

Next time: "Hot Tea" from London!

Ow... almost anything from die ärzte? :DDD This is actually a really difficult question because I don't know anything about playing or making music (apart from when I was 8 and had a random hyperfixation and taught myself to play piano), so I can only say what I hear and if it makes my brain itch in a positive way. And I don't know if an actually perfect song even exists, sometimes my fave songs don't make me feel anything and sometimes a song I never really noticed before, suddenly jumps up and is the best song I've ever heard. But I think I have two answers for this:

Bang Bang by die ärzte. It's just a demo and an instrumental song, and it came with Seitenhirsch and later Outtakes, but I absolutely love instrumental songs and I've never been left speechless like this after hearing a song. I normally have to do things with my eyes and hands when I listen to something, but when I heard this song for the first time, I FROZE. I actually was not able to do anything but sit here looking like o.o and staring at my computer screen because wtf is this song, why is it such a......... banger. BADUMTSSS no but really, it's so good.

Karten by FURT. At least I think this is the song I'm thinking about, but again, I might love instrumental songs, but I absolutely adore instrumental solos. And this song has one of the best instrumental solos I've ever heard, plus it's one of my favorite FURT songs in general, and I even understand and like the lyrics and can relate to them to some extent.

Now it annoys me that I don't remember if this is actually the song I'm thinking of, it's either this or other FURT song that doesn't have the typical song structure with the parts but changes completely towards the end. The dä's song "No Secrets" also does this! To answer the question in a more general way: a song is perfect for me when it is something I have never heard before, and when it is not cliché. That actually applies to everything I like cos I hate repetition and seeing and hearing and reading the same stuff over and over again, I need new and different things to keep ym ADHD brain entertained. That's definitely why dä is my fave band because they always do this with their music, every song is unique, every album has a sound to it no other album of theirs has had before. I'm unable to compare their albums to each other because they are so different and I love that about their music.

Ok this turned into dä hype apparently, but I can't name just one song, I can only give examples of which songs make my brain go brrrr.

I don't have a such playlist actually. I use Spotify only whe I don't have the files, and when Youtube music is filled with low/varying quality music videos which gets on my nerves when I just want to hear music and not focus on the volume button and awful quality all the time. And my Spotify does not reflect my music taste AT ALL. I also don't like listening to songs on repeat unless it's the only song that was released, which pisses the heck out of me because I hate repetition. I want a full album of songs, not one song on repeat!

I checked my Spotify and what I assume is an "on repeat" playlist. My Spotify is in Finnish so I'm not 100% if that's the same one, but I got one Emigrate song there. But tbh I think every song I've ever listened on Spotify if there because there are like 4 artists in general. I don't remember what this song is, it's called "I will let you go" but I don't recall it. I quickly checked it out and I think it's one of those to-skip songs for me.

My thoughts about the JESC 2022 songs. Part 3:

(This will be in order of release of the videos at the official JESC YouTube channel)

🇵🇹 Nicolas Alves "Anos 70":

No, I'm not kidding with this "handmade" meme. Those were my expectatives about what would happen to the JESC rock song streak after most rock entries from past editions flopped in the voting results, including one of my favorites: "Specchio" from Elisabetta Lizza (Italy really wanted to do a double win at both ESC and JESC 2021...Too bad the JESC world was not prepared for a rock victory like it gloriously happened at the adults' ESC the same year, even considering Elisabetta is a Maneskin fan, the song sounded like a Junior version of Maneskin with 100% quality, and the lyrics themselves had potential ;m;). Like "screw it, they not gonna send more rock anymore..."

That is...Until Nicolas Alves from Portugal came in with "Anos 70" ("the 70's" in Portuguese), and my hopes were high again.

It's not the same hard and moving rhythm as "Zitti e Buoni" or "Specchio", but even for being a rock ballad, it has the spark! Nicolas' voice is 100% fitful for the song's genre, mostly the chorus, reminding me of an adult rock vocalist (ngl, his raspy voice at the chorus reminds me of a mini version of Damiano David, in a GOOD way). And the outfit, the light backgrounds and all. Style. Just... STYLE. Don't take me wrong, I loved Simão Oliveira's "O Rapaz" last year (for being 14 years old, his voice was LIT. No wonder why they chose him to represent Portugal at ESC 2021) and the calm vibes it gave (kinda like a mini Salvador Sobral regarding the song...The hair, well, Nicolas took it XD). But this...this is something of another level!

This is one of my "Top 5" favorites, indeed. I could say we have the JESC rock mark checked with this song. Grande, Nicolas!

🇬🇪 Mariam Bigvava "I Believe":

Not every JESC (or ESC) song against war has to be a ballad. A fact that Georgia, one of the powerhouses for Junior Eurovision and triple champion of said contest, took seriously as they revealed their song for this year's edition "I Believe".

Who was the genius behind the paper-themed props of the videoclip? No, I'm not joking or being sarcastic. I'm being serious 'cause I loved them, specially the well-made doves: Truly the peace message is clear with this one entry. And as I said before, not a ballad, it's a moving song that despite having some catchy melodies, keeps its tone and doesn't screw the lyrics' intentions. And Mariam's voice. Definetly, one of the most strongest and good vocals in this year's JESC. One of those songs in my list that, if it's not one of my true favorites, I could be glad if it wins the contest.

🇮🇪 Sophie Lennon "Solas":

Ireland had a decent luck during their JESC performances, not too low but not great compared to higher voting places. But this year's entry from them has something good for the contest, and not just a typical ballad despite its tone.

The 100% Irish lyrics of the song are so majestic. And Sophie's outfit: It reminds me of Merida from Brave (despite the fact said character is probably Scottish/Scandinavian) at the first part, but the GLOW UP at the finale: "Solas" means Light, and the videoclip's story could not be more accurate to its melody.

And the ESC fandom could not be more accurate saying that if their countries' adult ESC entries (for those who had a bit of a bad rap or lesser voted/known entries) could have the same quality of their JESC counterparts, they could have better places at the voting.

Like with Katarina and David, not the "greatest" of my favorites, but it could be a real doozy of a victory should Ireland get 1st place with such a good ballad.

🇮🇹 Chanel Dilecta "BLA BLA BLA":

*deep sigh*. I knew and prepared myself to accept the fact Italy was not gonna return with Elisabetta Lizza or a good rock equivalent for this year's JESC after the 10th place she got last year. But after watching a compilation of Italy's last entries at said contest, I got some good hopes as they got a champion (Vincenzo Cantiello with "Tu Primo Grande Amore" at 2014, their FIRST YEAR at the contest, like the JESC version of Gigliola Cinquetti with Il Volo) and some bangers of songs like "Viva" or "What is Love" (the closest thing to a Junior's "Brividi"). And considering that Italy at the adults' ESC had some AMAZING songs during their history, the revealed JESC 2022 songs and the current situation, I thought they could send one of two options:

A bopping pop catchy song that could rival "La Festa" and "Lose my Head" with Italian spirit.

A ballad or moving song about peace and/or the need to stop a nonsense war, like a Junior's "Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente" if being the second case or a "Fai Rumore" for the first one. Like Georgia and Kazakhstan's entries, but Italian.

The entry was revealed, with good news regarding Chanel Directa's talents. And well, it looked like they sent the first option, but not as I expected.

The song is pretty good itself, sung in Italian and at least making an effort to mix three messages: The planet has wonders we should not destroy. Live the moment and appreciate the small things. And sometimes we should stop the nonsense chatter and noise on our lives. And not gonna lie, Chanel's suit is unique. The "glass" head bowl being kinda like a multi-purpose element for the three messages: A noise blocker, a scuba helmet and a space gear.

But if we talk about rhythm. Well, I will be honest, they gotta make some good efforts to boost it for the live version a bit if they want to reach a wider public at the Finale against the previous pop "chosen ones" I talked about (and some of them being the JESC fandom's Top 3 candidates). Otherwise, I guarantee most people will be like:

And even if I got a bit dissapointed with this Italian entry, I'm honest with you: I appreciate the effort and talent Chanel (and Rai) is giving to this year's JESC. The song is catchy in some way, and it has good intentions. It would be best to expect them to have a good place (maybe a Top 10 would be good!) for the voting results, and I wish them the best.

As soon as Armenia releases its song, I gonna cover it! Keep the wait! ;D

There are quite a few, actually! Being a large system will do that to you, but I'm not sure if any of the main fronters are dating... 🐏 is dating both 💳 and 📜 (among others), but other than that, I'm not entirely sure... The most well-known relationship in the system is Gael and Oz, but neither of them tend to front anymore.

I wonder if you can do an analysis of Stockholm Syndrome. I feel like there're two interpretations and I wonder what you think.

Hi! coucou AND NOW YOUR GIRLFRIEND IS RINGING IN MY EARS AGAIN

The thing with Stockholm Syndrome (and why it took me so long to reply to you <3) is that I'm not convinced on any interpretation. Usually in a song there's some hint or link or reference that I just kinda grasp onto and go from there and if it keeps checking out I'm like ah yeah that's it, but with Stockholm Syndrome it could go either way.

This is gonna be long, I'll do a bit of a breakdown of the interview moment where Harry said it's about a nympho, and the reactions are pure gold. And then of course the lyrics. And then it descends into a little bit of a song parallel chaos because that's just my blog.

An analysis of Stockholm Syndrome and anything related under the cut:

Let's just take a tumble into the video where he explains the song with the help from the boys (that he then just trashes by dropping the nympho), segment starts at 26:07:

Soooooooo first look at their individual reactions when the song is brought up (big shoutout to all the amazing content creators giving us beautiful gifs in source-quality. I'm not one of them. I tried to get a high quality gif going for once and the red disappeared for reasons we don't understand walking in the wind):

Harry's like alright let's go you wanna know my secrets I'll tell you my secrets

Liam's amused! And that's very telling, that the mention of this song amuses him. He then says "Harry" and nods towards him too

Louis? I don't know what's going on in that brain, he's the sas queen this whole interview. He does say something here but I watched it over and over and have no idea what. Judging from his posture and behavior he's being a shady shit towards Ben as that seems to be his general attitude this whole interview.

Zayn is interesting AF too, he points to Harry with 1 hand at the back but I'm not sure what that lil gay wrist doing at the front, maybe it points at him, maybe at someone else? HMM? Either way it's pretty obvious he isn't identifying himself with that song, just like liam's reaction, giving it to Harry instantly.

And no that doesn't mean much, Harry wrote on it and the others didn't so it makes sense, but they all do seem to know what the song's about or at least have some inside joke about it that they're not saying (or, Harry did say it: that "she's a nympho" and that's just the joke)

Onto what's being said, Harry starts off with the obvious :"it's kind of along the lines of what Stockholm Syndrome is" and I think that's important, I think that maybe they either had a song idea and were like "oh so like Stockholm Syndrome" and just built from there, or it originated from maybe being fascinated by that term/condition for whatever reason and then putting that inspiration into songwriting, because most of this song is just a description of what Stockholm Syndrome is: when someone who is held against their will starts to bond with and develop positive feelings for the person holding them there. Harry's words: It's like when you develop a relationship or like feelings towards your kidnapper.

But let's look at their individual reactions again when he says that

Niall's shitting bricks and looking across the couch to the other boys

Harry's still like okay lemme just go here lemme explain this I have no shame do you have shame? I have no shame

Liam's amused! amused!

Louis has this calm over him, maybe like ye you want him to go there? You're gonna hate the answer tho lololol

Zayn is trying to help Harry's story by gesturing along, then looks at Louis? AMUSED?

Look at all their faces

Niall: ohgodohgodohgod

Harry: what about it haven't you heard no control that's about me bitch me you just wait till i write medicine

Liam: g r i n

So you see why I'm leaning towards that lil NASTY explanation that's coming up actually being exactly that right? Just look at them.

Harry also says "she's a nympho" softly before saying it out loud. Zayn is jumping in to help again and says something along the lines of that it can also be about love, Liam has jumped in 10x already trying to explain the song, and then what does Harry do? He's like nah you don't go giving other meanings to my dirty song (or: they have the inside joke that is it) and goes

"THIS WAS MORE ABOUT LIKE A NYMPHO"

THE WHEEZE I CAN'T LOOK AT THEIR FACES AFTER HARRY SAYS THAT. LOOK LOOK LOOK

Harry: yep just did that hehe

Liam: oh god he just did that what are we gonna do

Louis: yeah what about it hehe

Niall: total utter oh god this was exactly what I was afraid of

Harry: No Control No Shame No ragrets Yes Marriage Yes Sex Yes Kissing everything the lot

Liam: I don't know how to fix this i don't know how to fix this we're live we're live we're live

So what to conclude from this, either

it's about a nympho (and that nympho is harry, or louis, probably both)

it was a running joke that it's about that as yaknow clearly you can interpret it that way but there's still another meaning to the song

Moving on, I mean the need to write about the Stockholm syndrome comes from somewhere right, maybe he was reading a book about it... oh maybe these ones...

Considering he's got a 17 black tattoo and all too. And of course those books are GAAAYYY[this link trashes Harry maybe not click it] because what's a Harry Styles song if it's not a reference to something supergay. Really. Now this can just be a funny coincidoink, just the universe being a silly again, who knows, but, it's possible. Also I believe that 17black tat was already associated with that book before Stockholm Syndrome was written? Not that that means anything. Anyway I haven't read the books so I don't know if that's gonna explain anything here, but I imagine if it's called that it's probably gonna have some similar themes.

So far it all checks out with just it being a no control one right? But reading the lyrics you can interpret it quite a lot darker too, as being controlled, by the label/management/the industry/being stuck in contracts, being stuck in keeping up this public image (see: Sign of the Times).

Let's just break down the lyrics. This is gonna get ~confusing~

Who's that shadow holding me hostage? I've been here for days

Holding me hostage + I've been here for days = a description of being kidnapped, helping to write that story of suffering from Stockholm Syndrome so possibly just filler, but then we get details: by a shadow and he doesn't know who that is.

Now I'm sitting here here in the Fine Line era with Do You Know Who You Are and I Don't Know Who She Is and HHMMMM maybe just pipe it down with the parallels

Oh no wait let's get back to the parallels because it's already some No Control vibeyvibes just from what he's said about the song alone, but then we get:

Who's that shadow holding me hostage? - Stockholm Syndrome

Her perfume's holding me ransom - No Control

okay no that's fine moving on

That he's asking who is that shadow? which can be his public image: a shadow can mean an reflected image of himself that isn't him, an imitation, something that follows you everywhere you go, and Harry being like who is that, it ain't the real me. But he's been there for days, he's been playing this person for days on end? Or maybe he's stuck hearing about shit about himself? Like can't escape it?

Who's this whisper telling me that I'm never gonna get away?

I Don't Know Who He Is again but it's described as a whisper + more of being held probably forever

A whisper is a synonym of rumor/gossip/scandal/story, again fitting that whole image idea I got going on here.

Parallel with "they told me that the end is near we gotta get away from here" - Sign of the times

I know they'll be coming to find me soon

They entered the chat, who is they? I mean the idea of the song is that he's being kidnapped right, so maybe this is just the storyline, but it relates to the next line:

But I fear I'm getting used to being held by you

Oh but now there's a You. Who is the you? It seems to imply it's the shadow/whisper as they're all holding him in places, but he knows this "you", while he questions who the shadow/whisper is. So it could be that it shifts here and "you" is someonelouis else and we're just building up to some other meaning chorus, because welp...

Oh, baby, look what you've done to me Oh, baby, look what you've done now Oh, baby, I'll never leave you if you keep holding me this way Oh, baby, look what you've done to me Oh, baby, you got me tied down Oh, baby, I'll never leave if you keep holding me this way

nympho entered the chat, this doesn't seem to be an unknown shadow whisper man, this is Oh Baby, look what you and your lack of control are doing to me

Alternate interpretation: the "Oh baby" and the "fell for you" and such are just added bits to make the song seem more fun, create this interpretation of a nympho, but its original meaning is dark and you know the label / management / contracts and such.

Also always consider why not both.

Who's this man that's holding your hand And talking about your eyes?

Now there's a man and "he"!? Is this another perspective? And it's Louis' bit? D... id.... did he have Louis sing a bit from another perspective? Because well what else is it, it suddenly flips. The whole song is me me me I'm being held and things are being done to me me me and then suddenly whambam there's a "man" doing things to a "you"? (and then in the next line there's no longer the "I" being held but the "he" is) God the brainpayne.

...Listen I wanted to find parallels here to explain these lines but all these 1D songs are talking about holding hands and eyes. I... pff... I got nothing. I don't understand, I don't understand, this song What you do to me when you hold his hand

Let's still try it tho, he goes "who is this man talking about your eyes" so let's see who is talking about eyes, and welp the first one I notice:

I just can't get enough of you, The pedal's down, my eyes are closed, No control - No Control OH OKAY OKAY

There are so many eyes tho, just some:

There's a lightning in your eyes, I can't deny - Ready to Run

Let me be the one to light a fire inside those eyes - Diana

But again, egh, songs are just "I have eyes", "I have a heart", "I have love", like there's not much to do with any of this.

Used to sing about being free But now he's changed his mind

But then there's also this line that fits the "this is about the label/management/industry" interpretation: "Used to sing about being free But now he's changed his mind", like, is he starting to like his image? Is he starting to enjoy the.. insanity? I mean, Maybe? -> It's getting crazy / but I'm into it (Kiwi). That duality of you got my devotion but man I can hate you sometimes (Fine Line) is quite a persistent theme in his lyrics, this could be one of it.

I know they'll be coming to find me soon But my Stockholm syndrome is in your room Yeah, I fell for you

back to the previous perspective, they're gonna take me away from you soon like I know I'm not hidden away, people know how to find me, but I wanna stay, I fell for you, I'm in love with you?

All my life I've been on my own I used the light to guide me home

He's using the light to guide him home, ok lighthouseman. (I don't have any brainspace left anymore can you tell)

But now together we're alone And there's no other place I'd ever wanna go

previously already specified: in your room, they're alone in you's room wow I figured it out.

So in summary: He's just with a person he wants to be with, and holding him (and also it's kinky) but they will be coming to get him away from that person soon, and/or there's a version of him that he doesn't really recognize all that much and he's stuck there. Oh and also a perspective shift when Louis sings.

1/2 Hi Price, I want to know your opinions about several songs translations. First, "I'm sorry I'm sorry" (if you don't know that song, please be careful 'cause that song can be extremely triggering to a person with traumas). Then, there is "sweet devil" (i think the only good translation of that song is the one Danytaly made. Also, if Danytaly see that message: I just love your PVs, you are like an Evillious master to me ! So please know that there are people who love you in the Evillious wiki)

2/2 Anyway, there's also "Hurting for a very hurtful pain", i don't know if there is a translation you deem good. Then, there's "ERROR" of cillia, which kyaami made a cover with Namine Ritsu. After, there's Nonsensical noise (talks about suicide and self-harm, be careful). I guess that's all, i'm sorry for disturbing you, also, please know that you are, like, an Evillious god and a role model to me! I wish i could understand japanese like you do ! I love what you do ! Thanks for everything !

Well, I can't check the accuracy of every song translation out there, but if you want me to just point you to one or two good ones--

I'm Sorry I'm Sorry: The lyrics do squick me out pretty heavily, so I'm unwilling to examine any translation of it too closely, but "momocashew" on Youtube has a decent one out there (I'd make one or two wording changes but that's me).

sweet devil: Well, Danytaly is not a translator--I actually vaguely recall him consulting me on that one to verify that translation's accuracy before making the video, so, yes, that translation is decent (I don't remember where it's from though). The VOCALOID Lyrics wiki also has Hazuki no Yume's translation on the song's page, and I know them to have been a translator of high quality as well. There are some minor differences in the lyrics that I can see, but without translating the song myself I'm not sure which I'd say is more accurate. Both seem fine.

Hurting for a very hurtful pain: Hm, there's a translation by vgperson, who is pretty reliable for the most part, but on looking at their lyrics I feel they took some liberties with the translation that I wouldn't (and maybe I'm just too literal myself but still). I find the song a little bit confusing, so I'm not sure I'm the best judge of the translation.

ERROR: I've found the translation by Electric Raichu to be of decent quality. There's again, a couple of things I personally might change--but the problem is that I struggle with context clues when it comes to vague song lyrics, so I can't guarantee my take would be better.

Nonsensical Noise: I actually almost translated this myself shortly after it came out. I even wanted to translate "nonsense" as "bullshit", though that's probably a bit too crass. The translation on the video is not great (it was even worse when first uploaded, if memory serves). However, the one currently on the VOCALOID lyrics wiki (by Summer's End, checked by Forgetfulsubs) is good. I think it can be confusingly worded out of a desire to maintain the line structure of the lyrics, but again that's just me.

Thank you for the tag @vukovich, @elvenwinters and @thejadewritergirl ! I'm sorry this is so late, I was super busy 😅 (in other news, I've achieved 3 major things that I'm so relieved about) Since I don't write fanfic, I figured I'd do origami based on fics. Featuring first lines and quotes I like from 4 of the fics I've recently read that got me through this crazy time + 3 from 1 fic each of the lovely people who tagged me.

1. Please, Take Your Time by @dracothecupcake (Drarry) (T, ~2.3k)

Summary: Draco's made it halfway through Eighth Year by way of reliable routine. All he wants is to be lonely in peace, thanks very much. It's really not that sad.

Enter Potter and his gang of devoted and overly organized minions.

Inspired by Vina's ideal cupcake as mentioned in this ask. This is a super sweet fic of 'Potter and his gang' plotting a scheme to help Harry cheer a sad Draco up. I loved how everyone got together to make the plan happen, especially when it was Dean's turn 😂 (Also I've literally been binge-reading all of Vina's works and they're great for comfort reading, do check them all out!!)

2. Through The Night by @thesleepiesthufflepuff (Linny) (T, ~2.75k)

Summary: Ginny tells herself that she's content with the way things are.

Luna proves her otherwise.

This fic has a special place in my heart. Featuring pining!Ginny, Luna and Ginny having weekly car rides together (which is 1000% my jam), soft and serious conversations, and coming to terms with feelings. The gorgeous description of the scenery and their road journey will make you feel like you're there with the two.

Bonus song suggestion: I loved reading the fic along with listening to the song referenced (Wild Horses), and also a second time with this song (Khaabon ke parinday) which I personally think fits the vibe of the fic really well. Feel free to give either/both a listen while reading if you'd like to!

3. Sugar Sweet by @the-sinking-ship (Drarry) (T, ~6k)

Summary: Draco thinks everyone forgot his birthday. (They didn’t.)

What the summary says 😌 This is officially one of my favourite birthday fics. Featuring scheming yet caring friends, snarky and witty banter, an absolutely delightful oc (Mrs Marchbanks), sweet birthday treats and sweeter moments between Draco and his loved ones.

4. Flying Without Wings by Rasborealis (Drarry) (E, ~3.7k)

Summary: Harry has a Really Good Idea for that undercover Auror mission, and it involves boarding an airplane with Draco Malfoy.

He may not have thought this one through.

This hilarious and hot fic features Draco's first time on an airplane, scheming, snarky and dramatic Draco, and Harry trying (and failing) to focus on just their mission 😏

This heartwarming feel-good Christmas fic features Draco who has a Plan, a hilarious Ron, Harry enacting one of my favourite 'doors are for people with no imagination' scenes (Skulduggery Pleasant reference 🙈) and lovely Christmas traditions.

Omfg this fic is a wild ride. An intellectually and sexually frustrated Hermione tries to figure out the significance of said strange day at work as well as the rings the three men are wearing. The personalities and dynamics between the four are so on point. Super hot fic with a brilliant emotional ending.
