Is Heartshocker obsessed with mushrooms by any chance?
I know I said I was taking a quick break to answer some older asks, but I think I've gotten a good balance/groove going, so I'll answer this one real quick and go from there! >v<
Heartshocker/Jade is, in fact, obsessed with mushrooms just like his in-game self! Now, you might be wondering how this might be given his size. Well, I mentioned in the prologue that the food and trees were giant, so it stands to reason that so too would mushrooms and flowers and the like be to them as they are to us in real life. Normal sized flowers to a kaiju would be giant to us while tiny flowers to them would be akin to holding stalks of grain in our arms. 😆
That also means that flowers and mushrooms are big enough to be beds or even umbrellas for lil' itty bitty Yuu~!! 🥹 Seriously, lookit these precious beans using leaves and flowers and mushrooms--so cute!!!!

Now, let's just hope that Yuu isn't found by Heartshocker when he ventures onto land to try and find these glorious things he adores so much. He has developed quite the immunity to the toxic/paralytic ones he's fond of eating...or more precisely, he actually absorbs and adapts their toxins into his own body to make any other kaiju or creature that bites him regret it in the worst possible way before he strikes back. >.>;

Hello! I’m back for our monthly chat :) The chapter really started off strong with a Gureshin flashback. Love a good reminder of Guren’s motives even if we don’t have any more info on his plan. Also love the immediate switch to Yu and “Mikapoo” being silly. And the way they addressed Yu’s maturity like we’ve talked about. I personally don’t wanna see Shinya and Yu together, but her flustering compared to Yu’s obliviousness was cute in a “Oh, Sweetheart 🙃” kinda way lmao. However, I am super onboard with Detective Mika tryna put the pieces together . He really seems to be the most in tune with the natures of some of the ppl he’s around. Plus I’m still obsessed with his current character design (his tail brings me constant joy 🥺). Krul immediately attacking him was a really cute way of checking in with him. And Ferid’s entrance was just golden (poor Kimizuki 😂) even if I am very confused as to how he plans to bring them all along in a truck with seating for 3 ppl max lmao. At least Ferid and Guren are making their partnership extremely clear; although, I kinda doubt that they intend to tell them the whole truth like they claim they will. But it would be helpful for us readers if they came clean lol. Overall I found this chp. pretty cute. Still waiting on actual answers tho!!
Hello! Sorry for the late reply yet again, but the first week of the year is generally a busy one for me.
They really had to hit us hard with Shinya's death this month between Vampire Reign and Catastrophe at 16 didn't they? It hurts. PLEASE STOP (but not actually). The immediate transition afterwards was whiplash worthy, but it was a good form of whiplash. "Mikapoo" is certainly an... interesting nickname lol. I wonder if it'll stick.
Shinoa and Yuu were pretty cute. Gotta love how much of an idiot Yuu is with this kind of thing. Sometimes it can be (and is) overdone, but with stuff like this interaction, it's cute.
Detective Mika! We, mainly you, were right about that! The only new thing we learned this month was the fact that Mahiru was apparently watching that night all those years ago, but as of now, it's not a huge thing. It makes sense that she was there given that Guren was there. What I find strange is those weird things floating in the background in that flashback.
Tumblr media
They weren't present in the first chapter, so I'm thinking it has something to do with Yuu's memories/his head since that's where we first saw them (if that makes sense). I suppose it could be a retcon too, but either way, we won't get answers at the moment, so no use dwelling really. As for Mika being more in tune with people, I suppose you're right. There's also the fact that he's more suspicious of people so he's more actively paying attention to them compared to Yuu who doesn't really care to pay attention to that sort of thing even though he's shown himself to be quite observant and aware at times.
Cute way to check in on him? Yes. I suppose lmao. It's certainly one way to do it. The sentiment was heartwarming at least. Vampires may not have emotions, but Krul cares about Mika to at least some degree and that's apparent.
I absolutely love how every time Ferid shows up now it's like "Guys! Stranger danger is back!" Never won't be funny. Ah, the truck. You ever play gen 3 (ORAS/RSE) pokemon? It's like that. Just shove them in the back of the van. It'll be fine.
Overall, this chapter was definitely more of a filler chapter, but I really enjoyed it! It's the kind of reset the manga needed after dealing with the First the past few months, but it is still kinda annoying that we were baited into thinking we were going to get answers from the First last month then didn't. It is what it is though. I agree in that I highly doubt that Guren and Ferid are going to share everything at this point as there seems to ALWAYS be more to the story. I have a bit of an inkling that the First may fill in some gaps/give another side to things for the readers if we ever get that explanation. The manga has set both Yuu squad and Co. and the vampires (Rigr and Co.) up for exposition dumps. Kagami could do them back to back if he wanted. I'm also curious about where Guren and Ferid are going to take everyone. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what next month brings.
Thanks for the monthly ask and again, I'm sorry about responding late!

A fae’s love
Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/27197677
Characters: Yandere!Lilia, Reader
Summary:  Lilia could feel that they were being watched.
A frustrated sound filled the oh so silent room as they threw their phone against their bed, a look of anger was on their face as they ran a hand through soft strands of hair. It was the Halloween Event in Twisted Wonderland, and they saved up quite a lot of summons just for that. They didn’t manage to get any of the cards they wanted though.
Not a single Jade, Vil or even Azul was in sight. No, the only one they got was Lilia.
Over and over again.
Even when they maxed him out, the gacha didn’t stop throwing the young looking ancient being at them.
Really, at first they didn’t mind it at all. Lilia was one of their favourite characters because of how fun, interesting and mysterious he was, but that didn’t mean that he wanted to get him. All. The. Time.
They lied down next to the phone he just threw a few seconds ago, grabbing it before rolling around in a lazy manner. For now… he would probably level him up and put him in his team. His attack stats weren’t bad after all, and the element combination was decent enough.
Still, they had no intention of keeping him there permanently.
While they were trying to calm themself down, they didn’t notice the pair of red eyes following him through the screen.
~ 🦇
Lilia was watching them from the homescreen. It was the only time he had the chance to watch them, for usually, he was busy doing other things usually.
Being with his dorm mates, watching some of the other students or doing whatever task he had been given by the teachers who were like little children in comparison to himself.
But when he was summoned by that strange entity, he was able to take a glimpse at a person who seemed to be the one who was watching over all of them, influencing the child of man in the way they wanted him to act to a certain extent. Something that was quite fascinating to him.
A person who was watching over them from time to time, almost as if they were some kind of god… he wished to know more about them. He wanted to see what they would think of all of them, and he wanted to know in what way they would tick.
That was how he started to watch them from the background, hidden in places in which he guessed that the entity was not able to see him. Lilia was able to feel when he was being watched, which he used to his advantage. The ancient fae started to be around the other students more as he observed Yuu. In a way, he acted way too passive for it to be natural. Almost as if he was simply a vessel for the being who was watching all of the things at the school unfold.
There were times when he was stuck at a strange place, in which he couldn’t do much, he had the opportunity to take a close look at them.
It was fascinating. They were neither unbelievable beautiful nor ugly, but there was something so fascinating, that he couldn’t help but be in slight awe.
A pair of eyes that were shining with excitement. Locks of soft looking hair that he wanted to touch and maybe do something with. Rosy cheeks and a bright smile on cute lips.
“Isn’t it interesting how mysterious I am?”
“Hehe, did you notice? Today I was able to tie my necktie into a prettier butterfly knot than usual.”
He loved talking to them, and sometimes, they even answered with an adorable laugh of theirs. It always made his heart beat in excitement, and he couldn’t help but look forward to those meetings more and more, no matter how sudden they were. With time though, he noticed that they spent less and less time with him, until at one point he wasn’t being summoned anymore. At that, he became annoyed, which he hid behind his usual smile. Certainly they will summon him again, won’t they?
He was wrong. They did not summon him, and he got angrier and angrier each time. They paid more and more attention to the other students than him, and he could feel his blood boil.
How were they worthy when they did not even notice their presence? How were they more deserving of their love than him. At one point, he snapped and decided to take matters in his own hands.
Each time he could feel the pull, he would get in the other students way, so they would only have him in their mind. When it was time for Halloween, he made sure that they won’t get anyone but him.
Like that, they would have to notice him again. To love him again and to pay attention to him.
Lilia could feel the anger, even see it sometimes, but he didn’t care and kept on smiling. As long as they looked at them, he was happy.
That was what he thought at first at least. The longer that went on, the longer he desired to be able to interact with that deity, with that god.
With that goal in mind, he started to research. Day and night, he spent his time in libraries while using his connections to all kinds of people that he built up over the years he has lived to get more magical texts and scrolls.
There had to be something that would let him do the thing he wanted, right?
Time passed, and he got more and more frustrated. His obsession only grew with each day.
Until it finally happened.
A magic spell that required a few living sacrifices to summon a being into his world, into his arms. It was not guaranteed that it would work, or that it would bring him the person he wanted to meet so badly, but he didn’t care.
Sacrificing a few was worth it, as long as he could get to touch them, to talk to them, to take them.
Maybe there were a few people who wouldn’t be missed? The headmaster might be willing to part from a few of his students if he offered him a few favours.
Lilia was numb to killing and death because of the things he did in the past.
War was taxing on the mind, even if it had been such a long time ago. Now though, it helped him with having an easier time to get the things he wanted.
To his surprise, Crowley was not willing to offer students, but he was willing to use contacts of his own.
Well, as long as he got what he needed, he didn’t care.
Like that, he started to prepare the ritual. He was careful, everything had to be perfect. When he had the time, he was preparing the room he would keep them in.
Soft, pillows. Silken sheets. Comfortable beds. A wardrobe with the finest clothes.
Anything less could not be accepted. A chuckle crawled up his throat, which he hid behind his hand before he continued to prepare everything.
Soon.
~ 🦇
They were playing the main story of Twisted Wonderland. Chapter five to be more exact. Their fingers were resting over the screen as they read the text, chuckling over the funny moments while getting angry over moments that they saw as unfair. Every time they played this game, they couldn’t help but feel with the characters and get invested in what they are doing and how they felt.
Still, in the end, they were just fictional characters. And soon, they were sure of it, they would find another fandom to get into and start obsessing over that. It was simply a cycle, and they didn’t mind as long as it brought them joy.
“Finally.”
A surprised look was on their face and they looked around, searching for the source of the voice. It was Lilias voice, they knew it all too well by now, having heard it almost every time they visited the game.
But how? He was nowhere to be seen on the screen, the only characters visible were Vil and Epel!
Screeching was echoing from the walls as their hand suddenly went through the phone, a force seemed to suck them in. They tried to fight against it, but to no avail. Laughing was the last thing they heard, before they lost consciousness.
~ 🦇
Lilia looked at the summoning circle that appeared on the ceiling he was in and grinned from ear to ear, holding out his arms so he would be able to catch them. They landed safely in his arms, and he could feel their sweet scent enveloping him.
It was difficult to describe because of how intoxicating it was to him. The body he held close to himself was warm, and full of life.
They were perfect. So much more than he expected.
With the person still in his arms, he turned around and left the place that was prepared for him. He didn’t care about the mess that he left behind. Crowley would surely clean it himself anyway. Even if he didn’t, there was no time to worry about trivial matters like these, for he had to take care of someone way more important than that little bit of dirt.
The ancient fae walked with them through the halls of Diasomnia to bring them to the room he especially prepared for them, a place where no one else but him and Malleus were allowed to go. Maybe even Silver and Sebek if he was in an especially good mood. None of the fellow students dared to look at them or even dared to ask him who the person in his arms was, for they were way too afraid of him.
Not without reason.
When they finally arrived, he gently placed them on the bed before he traced their lips with his pale, thin fingers, feeling the body heat that radiated from them. Without a second thought, he placed his own lips against the others, one hand was placed on a cheek. Lilia tugged on their bottom lip with his teeth before he bit down, letting the metallic but also sweet taste of their warm blood fill his mouth.
A moan escaped him, it was better than any wine he had tasted, better than even the freshest bottle of tomato juice.
It was addicting, and he never wanted to live without it again.
And he wouldn’t. He would make sure that this being, this entity would stay here in that safe, comfortable place forever. There will definitely be resistance at first, but it was nothing a little curse or spell couldn’t salvage.
He lied down next to them now, pulling them into his arms and caressing their hair. This… finally he had what he wanted. In the past, he felt that something was missing, but he could never tell what it was.
Now that he had them with him, he knew. Finally he was complete.
Anyone who would try to take this happiness away from him would not be spared.

Putting on Hairs: Audition Day
Primary Pairing? Trio?: YuuAyu... Setsu? Words: ~4.2k Rating: G, maybe light T for some implications? AU: Theater, Werewolf, Werebeast, Monster, Cryptid, Angel, Demon, Eldrich Horror
----------
Author’s Note: I’ve no idea how real theaters work, so anything that may be off with the timeline or proper procedure or whatever, I’ll just have to excuse as author ignorance, or handwave away by this theater being different, in many ways. That said, thank you lonelypond for fielding the questions I’ve sent thus far.
----------
“Ayumu!” A voice called from a few rows up. “Up here! Up here!”
“Yuu-chan?” Ayumu had to consciously keep her own volume down due to her surprise on seeing her girlfriend. “Shhh!” She added, holding a finger to her lips.
Yuu simply chuckled in response as Ayumu moved up the aisle. Well, it wasn’t like the twin-tailed girl was being any louder than the blonde sitting nearby. Ohara, was it? The theater’s patron, or one of them at least.
“I saved you a seat.” Yuu said with a grin as Ayumu reached her.
“Thank you.” Ayumu replied as she sat.
She was pretty sure they both knew the gesture was unnecessary as there were literally hundreds of empty seats, but it was the thought that counted. Ayumu loved that part of Yuu, always seeking little ways to make her feel special, even simple and unnecessary ones.
As for why the seats were empty, it was because this was merely an audition session. The only people in the theater today were cast and crew. And the cast were all up on stage, ready to make their bids for their potential roles. Well, all but the two leads, Yazawa and Nishikino, as they had been brought in specifically for their star power and were also sitting in the house with most of the crew.
Also, not everyone present was theater staff. There was of course, Ohara, the patron, and her driver, Matsuura. And there were the two from the catering company that had brought lunch earlier, Honoka and Rin, who insisted Ayumu refer to them by their given names when she spoke with them during the meal. She wasn’t quite sure why they were still around as they had finished cleaned up a little while back.
“I didn’t expect to see you here, Yuu-chan.” Ayumu whispered as Dia and Umi prepped the future cast for their auditions. “How did you even get in?”
“I told ‘em I was Ayumu’s girlfriend.” Yuu shrugged. “And they obviously figured out what I am, which probably helped. Although speaking of that…” She glanced around quickly, sticking out her tongue a couple times. “I’m pretty sure everyone here is like us. I don’t remember them advertising that they were only hiring monsters, but… oh sorry, supernatural beings.” She corrected.
Ayumu let her grimace relax. She had never liked the term monster as seemed to carry more negative connotations than other similar terms. And while Yuu was usually careful to avoid using the word, so many of their fellow cryptids used it that Ayumu couldn’t really fault her girlfriend for accidentally using it as well from time to time. Of course, that still didn’t mean she had to like it.
“But I don’t think there’s a single full blood human here.” Yuu continued. “And man, what a mix.” She flicked out her tongue again. “I’m getting a bit of everything. There’s gotta be a werewolf among them. And someone with feathers. At least one undead. I’m getting a bit of sea salt, so there’s probably a mermaid or the like. Sulfur, brimstone, so maybe a demon, or other fire creature I suppose, maybe both. And…” her brow furrowed, and she held her tongue out for longer than usual “that’s odd…”
“What’s odd?” Ayumu pressed.
“I don’t know. There’s something… else… here.” She shook her head. “I’ve never smelled anything like it. Heat. Flame. But not like any I’ve ever known… It’s otherworldly, and yet, not unpleasantly so. Huh…”
“Oh, I think they’re starting.”
“Right.” Yuu turned her attention to the stage where a young woman with long brown hair with some tied in a bright red ribbon was about to begin.
If Ayumu remembered right, the young woman’s name was Osaka Shizuku and had graduated alongside Nishikino Maki from Waseda, a prestigious school known for its arts degrees. For her audition, she had chosen to recite and act out a dramatic monologue in English. Ayumu felt like she had heard the lines before, though not on stage. Perhaps a movie? In any case, Shizuku left little doubt as to her skill and training, leaving Ayumu rightfully impressed.
Next up was… Nakasu Kasumi? Ayumu knew she had seen that face before. The young woman had appeared in a handful of television commercials, usually cute things aimed at a certain female demographic. Ayumu had actually purchased a few items promoted by Kasumi. As such, it came as little surprise that Kasumi’s audition resembled one of those cute commercials.
The next few auditions were a bit of a blur for Ayumu. It didn’t help that she was far less familiar with their names and faces.
But then, she stepped onto the stage. A short, raven haired young woman with an aura Ayumu could only describe as passionate. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Yuu sit up straighter as she seemed to sense something about this girl. Like the previous several others, Ayumu wasn’t familiar with this one, but something about her held her attention.
“Yuki Setsuna, was it?” Umi read from her list.
“Yes.” Setsuna confirmed.
“And what do you have for us today?”
“Well, I read the script and really enjoyed one character, so I would like to recite a few of her lines.”
“You’ve already memorized lines from the script?”
“Yes.”
“The script you were just given earlier today?”
“Yes. It was just so~ good. I couldn’t put it down.” Setsuna seemed to be actively holding back her excitement.
“Impressive.”
In a nearby seat, an orange-haired girl bounced a little, seemingly excited by the admission. Perhaps she was the one who had written the script?
“Oh, I may have also added a few lines.” Setsuna admitted. “I believe they fit the character.”
Umi gave a glance toward the orange-haired girl behind her who nodded enthusiastically.
“Very well.” Umi turned back toward the stage. “Carry on.”
Setsuna closed her eyes and took a deep breath before releasing it slowly. When she opened her eyes again, her entire demeanor had changed from restrained excitement to a fiery passion. Even from several rows up, Ayumu felt she could see flames in the young woman’s eyes.
Suddenly, Setsuna struck a dramatic pose. “At last, I have found you, foul beasts!” She practically shouted, pointing to somewhere else on stage.
Ayumu jumped a little in her seat, having not expected the outburst. She heard Yuu giggle quietly beside her.
“It is I, Artemisia Ullrin! Hunter of Horrors by trade and Collector of Cryptids by hobby.” She held her hand to her chest as the belted the lines proudly. “By order of Lady Lycaonian, I am to exterminate the infestation of werebeats suffered by her lands. You are welcome to resist, though I assure you that you shall lose. However!” Setsuna emphasized her lines with exaggerated gestures. “I offer an alternative! Surrender and be added to my collection.”
As melodramatic as the performance was, Ayumu couldn’t deny that it was quite entertaining. She watched in amusement as Setsuna skipped ahead to what she assumed to be a battle scene where she called out attacks like a cheesy hero show for kids. She knew the production was intended to be a little tongue in cheek, but Setsuna seemed intent on not just chewing, but flat out consuming the scenery, happily.
And then, seemingly all too soon, it was over.
“Bravi! Bravi!” Mari cheered, loudly, as she stood up from her seat. “Bravissimi!”
The orange-haired girl joined in standing as well, clapping and laughing. Then Yuu stood, as well several others.
“Thank you, everyone.” Setsuna bowed before standing back up with a beaming smile.
“<Where in the world have you been hiding,> Secchan?” Mari exclaimed in English
“Se-Secchan?” Setsuna blinked.
“Really, you were perfect!” The script writer added. “I love the new lines! I’ll be sure to add them!”
“It would appear you’ve earned a few fans.” Dia spoke next, fairly coolly and calmly, though Ayumu was certain she detected a touch of amusement in her tone. “That will undoubtedly play in your favor when we make our final casting decisions.”
“Thank you.” Setsuna bowed again before moving off stage to allow the next audition to proceed.
“Alright, next we have…”
Whatever else Umi was saying was lost to Ayumu as hands grabbed her shoulders.
“That was amazing!” Yuu did he best to keep her volume down. “That really got my heart racing! Actors are amazing! Theater is amazing! Ooo… I want to meet Setsuna-chan in person now!”
“-chan?!” Ayumu balked.
“I can’t wait to see the production!” Yuu continued as though she hadn’t heard Ayumu. “How long did you say it would take?”
“Well, it’s a musical, so that apparently adds more time.” Ayumu recalled. “I think I remember either Umi or Dia saying they were slotting for twelve weeks before opening night.”
“Twelve weeks?” Yuu visibly deflated a bit. “That’s like three whole months! I don’t think I can wait that long…”
Ayumu chuckled at her girlfriend’s newfound obsession. She’d seen this dozens of times before as Yuu would latch onto and hyper-focus on some new hobby or interest. “Maybe we can find some old clips of plays performed by the other Sonoda or Kurosawa theaters?”
“That’s a great idea, Ayumu!” Yuu’s eyes sparkled like emeralds. “Let’s do that tonight.”
“Alright.” Ayumu nodded in agreement.
Satisfied, Yuu settled back into her seat to watch the ongoing audition.
For her own part, Ayumu found her thoughts drifting. Artemisia? Ullrin? Lady Lycaonian? Mythology was not her strong suit, but it sounded like that wasn’t the case with the script writer either. It was almost as if she had simply Googled something about werewolves and just went with the first result that came up. Also, wasn’t Artemis already a woman? Did her name really need an -ia at the end to make the character female?
Well, the showrunners seemed fine with the ideas and the script writer and at least one of the actors were excited about them. So, who was Ayumu to judge? It wasn’t as if she herself hadn’t been entertained by Setsuna’s performance.
Setsuna… -chan… Ayumu glanced at her girlfriend. She had seen Yuu fawn over fictional woman before, but this was a first time she remembered her doing so over a living, breathing woman. And for some reason, that bothered her. Was she jealous? Ayumu shook her head to clear it of such thoughts. She was probably overthinking things and being insecure. She and Yuu had been happily dating for several years now. She shouldn’t be worrying about losing her at this point… right?
----------
“Yuu-chan, wait!” Ayumu protested as her girlfriend pulled her through a door clearly marked Employees Only. “We… I mean, you shouldn’t…”
“I just want to meet Setsuna-chan and thank her for the wonderful performance.” Yuu responded, not letting up her pace.
They rounded a corner and…
“Takasaki Yuu-san.” Dia stated solemnly as she stood in the center of the hallway.
“Oh, hi!” Yuu responded cheerfully. “You’re one of the women I met at the front door and decided to let me in. Dia-san, right?”
Dia blinked, obviously not expecting Yuu to skip a level of formality. But Yuu had been like that for the entire time Ayumu had known her. Still, Ayumu winced as she wondered how much trouble they were now in.
“Yes…” Dia confirmed.
“Right. Thank you again for letting me watch the auditions today.” Yuu continued. “They were amazing! My heart was racing pretty much the entire time. Especially with Setsuna-chan’s.”
There she goes again with -chan…
“Yuki-san did indeed give us quite the performance.” Dia agreed. “Anyway, as I was about to say, Takasaki-san, you are not employed here.”
“Nope. Not yet.” Yuu grinned.
“Not yet?” Dia raised an eyebrow.
“This whole experience has been so inspiring that I want to apply to work here.”
Ayumu also raised an eyebrow. That was news to her.
“You wish to become an actor?” Dia inquired.
Yuu shook her head. “No, I don’t really want to be on stage; I’d rather watch from the audience. But I can’t help wanting to support the amazing members of your cast in whatever way I can.”
“I see.”
“I could haul supplies around.” Yuu suggested. “Oh, I’m pretty good with my hands.” She held them out for emphasis. “So maybe I could help assemble sets or props? Ayumu has taught me a thing or two about hair and makeup, so I could definitely help her. Oh, and I worked a while as an editor for my college newspaper, so maybe I could go over the script and help there? And I did some composing for the band and orchestras, and even learned to play a couple instruments, like the piano, so I could help in the pit as well.”
Dia nodded. “I think I am starting to understand. You are essentially a jack of all trades.”
“Master of none.” Yuu confirmed.
“But better than a master of one.” Dia completed.
“Right. I’m no specialist, but I’m pretty good at picking up the basics.”
“Yuu-chan is a fast learner.” Ayumu added.
“I see.” Dia nodded. “Then I would suggest you get a resume in order and send it our way. Uehara-san should have the contact information.”
“Oh, I have that already. I was actually the one who found this place and recommended that Ayumu apply. I probably would have applied as well at that time, but I had a job then.” Yuu shrugged. “But they decided they needed to cut costs, and as I was the most recently hired, I ended up being part of that cost.”
“Well, I admire your enthusiasm and desire to help my cast and crew.” Dia smiled. “I shall look forward to working with you soon. Now, if you will excuse me, there are matters to which I must attend elsewhere.” That said, she stepped past the couple and moved down the hall.
Ayumu released a breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding. So… Dia wasn’t kicking them out after all? She wasn’t in trouble for letting a non-employee into this area?
“C’mon!” Yuu said, grabbing her hand again and shattering her thoughts. “We still gotta find Setsuna-chan. Say, do you know where her dressing room is?”
“I, uhm… know some of the rooms are off to the right.” Ayumu motioned in that direction. “Though I’m not sure if she has one assigned to her yet.”
“Well, let’s go see.”
“Uhm… alright…” Again, Ayumu was pulled down the hall.
The couple turned another corner, moved past the rooms for Yazawa and Nishikino, another without a name plate and… huh…
“She has one.” Yuu said, stopping in front of a room. “They must have just given it to her.” She indicated the paper sign taped over where the a more permanent placard would be placed. “Maybe she already got the part she wanted?”
Ayumu shrugged. She didn’t know enough about the overall process to comment.
“Setsuna-chan!” Yuu called as she knocked. “Are you in there?”
“Yes,” the young actress replied from within “you can come in.”
Yuu opened the door and stepped in.
“Uehara-san?” Setsuna turned away from whatever she was setting up on the vanity. “And… uhm…?”
“Yuu.” The twintailed girl responded. “Takasaki Yuu. I’m Ayumu’s girlfriend and they let me watch the auditions with her.”
“Ah…”
“So, you’re the source.”
“Eh?”
Yuu flicked her tongue. “Of the scent I smelled earlier.”
“Sc-scent?” Pink dusted Setsuna’s cheeks.
“Flame. Fire.” Yuu stepped closer and leaned in toward the young actress. “But not the kind I am used to… Just what are you, Setsuna-chan?”
“Yuu-chan!” Ayumu scolded, moving forward to pull her girlfriend away from Setsuna who was starting to display some defensive body language. “You shouldn’t just ask such things so bluntly.”
“Mm? Why not?” Yuu seemed confused. “I think it’s pretty obvious now that Dia-san and Umi-san intended to create a sort of haven for us here. And if we’re all going to work together, it makes sense to know what we all are.”
“Yeah, but…”
“Anyway, I’m a lamia.” Yuu indicated herself. “I’d show you, but I wore pants today.”
Well, at least she has the decency to not unceremoniously drop trou in front of someone she just met. Ayumu thought to herself. Like she so often does at home…
“But I can do this.”
Eh? Ayumu felt her cheek being pinched.
“There. As you can see, Ayumu is a moon rabbit.”
Eh? Eh?! Ayumu caught her reflection in the mirror near Setsuna. Sure enough, white, fluffy rabbit ears had sprouted on her head.
“Mohhh… Yuu-chan!” Ayumu punched her girlfriend lightly in the arm.
“What?” Yuu giggled at the playful jab. “Ayumu always looks so cute like that. I can’t help wanting to see you like that more.”
“Mmph…” Ayumu puffed her cheeks out to pout, though she couldn’t deny liking the compliment.
“They are indeed quite cute, Uehara-san.” Setsuna agreed with an amused smile.
“Oh, uhm… thank you.” Ayumu replied. “And, Ayumu is fine. Like Yuu-chan said, we’ll be working together a lot, so I don’t mind being a bit less formal.”
Setsuna’s smile grew. “I’d like that. Please feel free to call me Setsuna in return. Oh, and if you don’t mind my asking, by moon rabbit, do you mean…?”
“Well, I wasn’t actually born on the moon, if that’s what you mean.” Ayumu explained. “My ancestors were though.”
Setsuna nodded in understanding.
“But you should try her mochi, though.” Yuu spoke up. “It’s the best. Same with her rice cakes.”
Setsuna seemed to recall something. “I think you’ll find a good friend in Koizumi-san.”
“Oh yeah,” Yuu thought out loud “Ayumu, wasn’t she the one you said they brought a huge container of rice for?”
Ayumu nodded in confirmation. “I was honesty surprised how much she was able to eat, though she wasn’t the only one.”
“I suppose some of us have larger forms to feed.” Yuu shrugged. “Anyway, I gotta know the source of that fiery smell.” She turned her attention back to Setsuna. “You know what we are now, so what kind are you? Why is your fire so different than that of an ifrit, salamander, phoenix, dragon or whatever?”
“Oh, uhm…” Setsuna fidgeted a bit. “I’m a Cthughan.”
Yuu furrowed her brow in thought for a moment before something came to her and she looked up excitedly. “You mean you’re the Elder God, Cthugha?”
Setsuna shook her head. “Great Old One, actually. And I’m only a descendant of him. Cthugha is my great great great… I actually don’t know how many greats, grandfather.”
Oh, kind of like me being a descendant of rabbits who actually lived on the moon way back when. Ayumu thought.
“That’s. So. Cool!” Yuu practically squealed. “No wonder I couldn’t identify it, I’ve never met an Elder God before.”
“Great Old One.” Setsuna corrected again.
“Right, sorry. Anyway, that wasn’t actually the reason I wanted to meet you today.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah, I actually wanted to tell you how amazing you were in your audition and that I really hope you get the part.”
“Thank you. And they did actually already give me the role.” Setsuna said. “That’s why I’ve been setting up my stuff here.”
“I was right.” Yuu tossed over to Ayumu. “Congratulations, Setsuna-chan!” She offered the actress.
“Thank you again.” Setsuna smiled. “I really like the part.”
“It looked like it was a lot of fun to play.”
“I know right?” Ayumu detected some of the excitement Setsuna displayed before her audition.
“I haven’t read the script yet, but…
“It’s so~ good!” Setsuna seemed less able, or perhaps less willing to suppress her excitement. “I was able to talk with Chika-san, who wrote the script, and she was able to tell me a ton of things about what she had planned for possible modifications, depending on who got what parts and, oh my gosh, it all sounds amazing, and I think they already know who to cast for the main villain and while I didn’t expect that choice, Chika-san’s explanation was awesome as she revealed her plans to me and what she has planned for Yazawa-san and Nishikino-san’s characters, oh it sounds like so much fun and…” Setsuna suddenly recoiled and stepped back. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to go off like that…”
Yuu laughed. “It’s fine, it’s fine.” She dismissed. “Your excitement makes me want to see if I can track down this Chika-san and get a copy for myself.”
“You can have one of mine!” Setsuna pounced at offering.
“One of…?” Yuu asked, picking up on the word choice.
“Oh, uhm… I may have made a couple copies for myself to write ideas on after Chika-san said she would like to see what I think.” Setsuna admitted as she shuffled through a stack of papers. She started to hold out a set before pulling them back. “Wait, you don’t work here though.”
“Not yet.” Yuu admitted. “But your audition, and many of the others, inspired me to apply here so I could support the amazing actors here however I could.”
“Ah.” Setsuna nodded, holding out the papers, only to pull them back yet again. “You’re not a spy from that other theater down the street, are you?”
Yuu chuckled. “If that was the case, I’d just get my info from Ayumu.”
“Right, that makes sense.” Finally the actress gave the script to Yuu.
“I already offered to Dia-san that I could help with editing.” Yuu skimmed it excitedly. “I wonder if Chika-san would mind if I slipped in a few ideas of my own.”
“She seems pretty willing to accept ideas from others around the theater.” Setsuna said. “Both Osaka-san and Nakasu-san have offered some of their thoughts already.”
Yuu opened her mouth, but whatever she was about to say next was interrupted by her stomach growling. She giggled. “I guess it is getting a little late.”
“Let’s head home then.” Ayumu spoke up. “I’ll make dinner for us. It was nice meeting you, Setsuna-san.”
“I don’t think I can make it all the way home.” Yuu said. “Why don’t we stop at that sandwich shop along the way.”
“Alright.” Ayumu agreed.
“Wanna come with us, Setsuna-chan?”
“Eh? Me?” Setsuna seemed caught off guard by the invite.
“Yeah, that way we can talk about the script and stuff.”
“Oh, uhm, thank you, but I wouldn’t want to impose. Besides there’s still a couple things I want to do here before I head out.”
“Alright. Maybe some other time then.” With that, Yuu took Ayumu’s hand and headed for the door. “See you later, Setsuna-chan!” She called as she exited.
At first Ayumu felt relief that Setsuna had declined, but as she and Yuu walked down the hall, a sense of disappointment set it. She actually did want to talk about the upcoming play. Perhaps next time…
----------
“Ne, Yuu-chan.” Ayumu said as the couple walked home.
“Mm?”
“Would you… uhm… Would you support me if I decided to become an actress?” The way you say you want to support Setsuna-san and the others?
“Of course!” Yuu gave her a toothy grin. “I think Ayumu would be an amazing actor.”
“Really?”
Yuu chuckled. “Well yeah, the Ayumu I know and love may be shy sometimes and hesitant to try new things. But when she decides to do something, she’s the hardest worker I know. She always gives it her best. That’s one of my favorite aspects of Ayumu.”
Ayumu blushed at Yuu’s affirmations.
“So, what prompted this all of a sudden?” Yuu looked at Ayumu with sudden curiosity. “Did the auditions inspire you as well?”
“A little…” Ayumu admitted. Did she need to include her desire for Yuu to look at her the way she looked at Setsuna?
Yuu smiled. “Well, maybe tonight we should look into finding some acting classes for you to take.”
“Classes?”
“Well, I don’t know anything about acting, so I’d be no help to you there.” Yuu explained. “Though I’d be happy to help you rehearse lines or whatever. And you’ll want some knowledge before you start auditioning for roles, right? Surely there has to be some evening or night course you can take somewhere.”
“Alright.”
Yuu’s expression became whimsical. “Mm… I can imagine it now. Uehara Ayumu stars in… something something big show, the marquee proudly proclaims with flashing lights. Ayumu on stage bowing before a standing ovation. Flowers are tossed on stage by devoted fans.”
“Y-Yuu-chan…” Ayumu murmured a quiet protest.
“What? I can’t imagine my amazing girlfriend being adored by all?”
“Well… I don’t really need to be the star, do I?”
Yuu shrugged. “Even if you only want supporting roles, I’ll still happily come watch your performances.”
Ayumu smiled. She loved this side of Yuu, her unwavering and unconditional support, always willing to adapt to anything Ayumu wanted to do. It was a constant source of confidence from which she drew to take on those new things, when she did.
Maybe she was overthinking the thing with Setsuna. Yuu was just being Yuu, getting excited over a new obsession, and Setsuna’s performance just happened to be the gateway into that obsession. As for Setsuna herself, she seemed equally excited about acting as Yuu, if not more so. And as her audition proved, she had talent. Perhaps Ayumu could learn a thing or two from her through observation, or just talking with her.
“Alright.” She set her mind on her decision. “Let’s look into classes when we get home.”

My top 10 yuri ships
Hi everyone! Here’s my top 10 favourite yuri ships in anime and manga (as well as Japanese game). Keep in mind that it’s my personal top 10 and I’m not saying those ships are better than the others, just that they are those I prefer.
10. Kaguya X Mokou (Touhou Project)
Tumblr media
My favourite ship in Touhou Project. I have a thing for love/hate relationship as well as rivalry. Those two are immortals and keep trying to kill each other due to an old grudge. How romantic. But as immortals, they can understand each other since they are going through the same thing, and know they won’t end up alone. My main reason to ship them is that I find the concept of them being together really hot (and one of them as firepower so it’s fitting).
9. Yoko X Aya (Kiniro Mosaic)
Tumblr media
Ship from one of my favourite slice of life anime. Yoko and Aya are the typical “shoujo manga couple” with the tsundere girl to shy to admit her feeling and the dense guy. But not as typical, since they are both girls. Aya, better known as Ayaya (or Gayaya), is so memeable. Her love for Yoko can be both cute and funny, and I do hope one day Yoko will realize her feelings and reciprocate them. They are what I prefer in Kiniro Mosaic, their episodes are those I enjoyed the most.
8. Otoya x Shiena (Akuma no Riddle)
Tumblr media
I hesitate to put this one since I’m more obsessed about it than actually liking it, but I guess that I can’t just write so many fanfics about them and not put them on my top. I’m truly obsessed and fascinated by the possibility of this pairing. I must admit that I have a fascination for psychopaths, and a relationship with one of them intrigued me. So to see a normal girl like Shiena being paired with a psycho serial killer like Otoya is like a fantasy to me, it’s satisfying my dark fantasy. I like to imagine how they could actually work as a couple. So unhealthy and dark...Ah, not that I approve such relationship, but it’s fine in fiction. If you’re interested, here’s an analysis I made for them: OtoShie analysis.
7. Komaru X Touko (Danganronpa)
Tumblr media
A relationship that truly touched me. They are so good for each other, they support and help each other. I honestly ship them either romantically or as friends, I just want to see them together. Just seeing pictures of them together is enough to light up my mood. Touko has a hard time trusting others because of her past, so it’s moving to see her open up to Komaru and eventually see her as a close friend. And Komaru is just so sweet and adorable. Please Touko, forget about Togami and just go with Komaru, who respect and treat you well You deserves better than that rich prick!
6. Sakurako X Himawari (Yuru Yuri)
Tumblr media
What’s better than a tsundere? Two tsunderes being tsun-tsun for each other! My favourite thing in that anime is actually those two and their interaction. Individually I don’t really like any of them, but together they are just gold. We know they actually like each other, but they can’t help but being rival. They used to be really close as kids but ended up fighting growing up (probably because of Hima’s boobs, they start all of this). But the rare sweet moments between them are what truly matters, and I hope for actual development for them.
5. Homura X Madoka & Sayaka X Kyouko (Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two ships for this positions since they are from the same anime and I can’t choose one. We can’t deny Homura’s love for Madoka, it’s pretty much canon with the third movie. Just how far she went for Madoka’s sake, the sacrifices she made, the pain she underwent. I wish for a happy conclusion for them, but I feel like it won’t be the case. As for KyouSaya, I like how both of them is tomboyish, it’s rare to see that type of yuri ship. They started as enemies to eventually friends, I liked the evolution of their relationships and they truly shine in the third movie. Again I wish them a happy conclusion. But it’s PMMM, so I doubt it will happen ^^’
4. Nanoha X Fate & Vivio X Einhart (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha)
Tumblr media
Again, two ships at the same position for the same series, because I couldn’t choose. NanoFate is a classic in yuri, they are basically canon. I mean, they live together, sleep in the same bed, bath together, and adopted a girl they raised together. Everything about their relationship is perfect. They start off as enemies but learn to understand each other and eventually become close friends, and it continued to evolve as they grow older. Vivio and Einhart are kind of a mirror of their relationship but softer. They started as rivals and ended up friends, and their ancestors knew each other (they were a couple I think). There’s a good romantic potential with those two, sweet yet spicy. You know what they said. As mother as daughter.
3. Sumireko x Banba (Akuma no Riddle)
Tumblr media
Another one from AnR, my otp, SumiBanba! With both Banba’s personality, Mahiru and Shinya. They are the combination of my two favourite type of ships: Overly cute and dark. Most of their interactions are so cute and fluff, yet since they are both not exactly sane (and Banba being clearly insane), there’s a potential of darkness with that ship, given Sumireko’s obsession with power. The potential of her abusing her power with Banba is strong, yet there’s also the potential for them to help each other with their respective issues. This relationship as both the potential to be good or bad, mostly depending of Sumireko’s action. If you're interested, I made quite a long post to analyze their relationship: SumiBanba analysis.
2. Hibiki X Miku (Symphogear)
Tumblr media
Those two...I love them so much! They are so cute and fluff. They both have a strong bond with each other, they are calling each other sunshine and bright sun. They are so much acting like a married couple, even their VA agreed. I mean, they have bunk bed yet sleep in the same bed, while holding hands and cuddling. They are so perfect for each other, they compliment each other pretty well, Hibiki being more immature and Miku more responsible. And it’s pretty obvious that Miku does love Hibiki, it’s even confirmed in the OVA. But as Hibiki’s friend told her once, she’s as dense as a harem MC. Let’s hope they got actual romantic development in the upcoming season 5 (urgh only airing in April...)
Before I reveal my number 1 yuri ship, here are some ( a lot) honorable mentions...
Honorable mention
Every ship in Akuma no Riddle
Tumblr media
Nana x Junna (Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight)
Tumblr media
Shirabe X Kirika (Symphogear)
Tumblr media
Shinobu X Alice (Kiniro Mosaic)
Tumblr media
Zuikaku X Kaga (Kantai Collection)
Tumblr media
Haruka X Michiru (Sailor Moon)
Tumblr media
Minami X Yutaka (Lucky Star)
Tumblr media
Haruka X Yuu (Sakura Trick)
Tumblr media
Mahiru X Hiyoko (Danganronpa)
Tumblr media
Akko X Diana (Little Witch Academia)
Tumblr media
Croix X Chariot (Little Witch Academia)
Tumblr media
Miu x Nanano (Koihime Musou)
Tumblr media
Yuuna x Tougou (Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru)
Tumblr media
And the number 1 is...
1. Bernkastel X Lambdadelta (Umineko No Naku Koro Ni)
Tumblr media
Those two. Words are not enough to describe how much I love them. They are everything I love about a ship, they are cute yet dark, love/hate, and rivals. They are actually lovers, friends, enemies, rivals and opponents. Yes, they are canonly a couple. They are immortal witches who deeply love each other, yet also try to kill each other from time to time to pass time. Lots of candy and sugar symbolism with them, as well as stuff like “I’ll impale you to my bed and kiss you each morning and night” or “I’ll gouge your eyes so you can only look at me and put them into my tea”. So romantic, so fucked up. I love that. Despite all the creepiness, they do honestly love each other, they just have their own way to show it. I guess it’s normal when you’re a 1000 years old witch.
And this was my Top 10 yuri ships. If there are any yuri ships you like that wasn’t in my top or in the honourable mentions, don’t hesitate to share it with me and I’ll tell you what I think. Thanks for reading and seeya! :)

BECAUSE I’M NOT POPULAR, I’LL READ WATAMOTE: CHAPTER #143
So in keeping with the recent trend of bringing back older characters, Watamote goes for a throwback and puts the OG trio into the spotlight. With Kii-chan, we got to experience how Tomoko managed to rekindle a previously strained relationship (somewhat). Will the Tomoko-Yuu-Komiyama team finally become a true circle? Or is it destined to exist as an awkwardly shaped, but cohesive oval?
Chapter 143: Because I’m Not Popular, The Three Of Us Will Study Together
Tumblr media
As always, Komi’s looking damn fine with her patented punk/goth style. Those open-shouldered skull shirt, slick choker, asymmetrical skirt, and striped leggings all come together to make her look like a total rockstar. It’s delightfully contrasted by the fact that’s she’s a pervert with a baseball obsession, but being fashion-conscious does help to round out her..unsavory side.
But, Yuu, sweetheart, as much as a skater dress looks good on you, you could do without the spikes. Granted, I’m hardly an authority on fashion, and in some circles, I’m sure it looks great. But it’s doesn’t seem as...flashy as she usually presents herself. Perhaps it’s because she’s with Tomoko and Komiyama that she doesn’t feel the pressure to be overtly stylish, and is more comfortable with something more subdued.
Tumblr media
Man, the throwbacks just keep on comin’. What’s next, are they going to find Tomoko’s Yandere Boys Verbal Abuse CD hiding in her room?
Tumblr media
Friendly reminder that Tomoko is, was, and will always be a piece of shit.
That said, Tomoko isn’t the type to be mean just for the heck of it. Her usual targets like Komiyama and Yoshida are only targeted because it’s been made apparent that they can handle it. With Komi-something, Tomoko knows that she’s not utterly irredeemable, which is why she takes any opportunity she can to milk Komi’s indecency. Because otherwise, she’ll be the bitch, and that’s a line even Tomoko won’t cross.
Tumblr media
This chapter should be titled, “-the four of us will study.”
Speaking of which, Yuu and Komiyama have never seen Tomoko’s big plushie before, right? They probably think that it’s evident of Tomoko’s hidden cute side but if they ever found out about all the questionable things Tomoko does to the poor thing, that idea is sure to be shattered.
Tumblr media
I suppose I should address the elephant in the room and ask what the hell is it with Yuu and her incessant sweating? Not even down her face or anything, but it flies off her body. Could this be her unique way of expressing hidden anxiety? That’s a scary possibility, to be sure.
Tumblr media
No, there’s supposed to be beer cans everywhere with inebriated kids playing footsie under the table that quickly escalated into necking and–oh, wait, this is reality. My bad.
Tumblr media
Ah, so these are the friends that Yuu-chan often brings up but we’ve never really seen before. They certainly look like a lively bunch, though that’s really all one can say from a single panel. Granted, if Yuu's school does have relatively inferior academics, then I imagine there’s a bit more goofing off going on here than actual studying.
Tumblr media
Same here. That’s the reason yours truly goes off to work at the local cafe rather work at home. Too many distractions and external stimuli at your abode, and no one to hold you accountable for slacking off.
Tumblr media
Not entirely sure if this is a joke lost in translation, but apparently Komiyama is humming a ditty about the Chiba Lotte Marines, namely infielder Nakamura Shougo. That’s actually kinda cute.
Tumblr media
Got nothin’ to say. Itou just looks adorable here.
Tumblr media
This, however, is decidedly NOT cute.
As the series’ resident purevert, Komiyama’s crush on Tomoki has always fluctuated between two extremes: innocent, schoolgirl affection and disturbingly fetishistic lust, and this line about, um...licking Tomoki’s eye circles falls way into the latter. For the record, I’m generally nonjudgmental about one’s unharmful sexual preferences–to each their own, you know–but given Komiyama’s history, I’m genuinely concerned for Tomoki’s wellbeing should the girl ever get her paws on him.
Tumblr media
Itou is canonically the strongest character in the whole series. Those powers of perception were gained through unfathomable amounts of mental destruction.
Tumblr media
Self-awareness? What self-awareness?
Tumblr media
Is this going to be running gag now–Yuu innocently “complimenting” Komiyama with a between-the-lines insult?
I dig it.
Tumblr media
Some may call it slacking, I call it strategic half-assery.
Ah, so Tomoko is officially aiming for a liberal arts school. For a girl who used to have zero prospects after high school, it’s uplifting to see Tomoko with an actual long-term goal in mind. It really is the only thing she’s reasonably passionate about, and the “starving artist” lifestyle actually fits pretty well with Tomoko’s approach to the world, so good for her.
Tumblr media
Poor Yuu is never going to make it in the “real world”, is she?
Tumblr media
Checking out the play-by-play when you’re supposed to be studying? Sometimes I forget that Komiyama actually has a cute side.
Tumblr media
You know, given all the times when Tomoko and Komiyama are shitting at each other, these little bits of politeness between them are much more poignant. Sure, they’re being conscientious about it since Yuu’s there, but I can see this happening even if she wasn’t. See, Tomoko and Komiyama tend to mirror each other–insults are reciprocated with insults, and friendliness is reciprocated with friendliness. Even when they swing far on one side, something always pulls them back into equilibrium.
Tumblr media
This would’ve been a good spot to put a gag here, with Komi expecting a strikeout only to explode with joy in front of her friends when the Lotte’s make an unexpected comeback. Instead, Nico Tanigawa goes for realism, validating the more pessimistic side of Komiyama. As for why they chose this route, I actually believe its to set up a little arc for Komi. As of now, baseball and Tomoko are her saving graces, and neither is looking good right now. Ultimately, this could lead to Komi facing the reality that dreams don’t always come true, and learning to accept that.
Tumblr media
Yuu was definitely fishing for an answer to Nemo and Katou, and the fact that Tomoko doesn’t tell her right away is actually a good sign. Back in the old days, Tomoko would jump at the chance to “brag” about Yuu, her then-only friend because she was so insecure about their friendship falling apart. Since then, she’s made a number of meaningful friends, so that need to brag is long gone.
Tumblr media
I love seeing characters describe other characters they’ve barely interacted with. Komi does see Nemo as a girl in the “sorta-in-crowd” so it makes sense that she would see her as “flashy”.
Tumblr media
Says the girl who also dresses super fashionably.
Tumblr media
Shocked, but not resentful. It’s uplighting to see Komiyama take Tomoko’s relative popularity in stride, and it’s a feeling that’s been there since the Kyoto Field Trip Arc. Despite having very few friends herself, she’s never thought poorly of Tomoko when the girl gained more friendships. If anything, it made Komiyama see her in a slightly better light now that she knows Tomoko isn’t completely irredeemable.
Tumblr media
I could almost swear that Komi is doing that on purpose.
Tumblr media
Cuties.
Tumblr media
Everybody’s Golf is that PS4 game, correct? Good taste, this girl.
Tumblr media
Shit, Tomoko, at least take her out to dinner first.
But it actually makes sense for why Tomoko brings it up like that. She knows that she’s at that stage in her relationship with Yuu that she just can’t casually molest her anymore (not that she should have been doing that in the first place, but still). Tomoko, the perv that she is, still has those shitty desires, but she’s more tactical about it. Like a politician.
Tumblr media
Lol! Tomoko is such a jokester!
...right?
Tumblr media
This harks back to those times when Tomoko fantasized about being an arms dealer/mercenary. Naturally, that’s a far cry from wanting to be a golfer, which is much more grounded in reality. Even Tomoko’s reasons about the payload and being a woman carries merit. Sure, it’s ultimately a fleeting interest, but at least her dreams aren’t so...how should I say, destructive anymore.
Even deeper into the realm of reality is her interest in being an esports streamer. Being a millennial, it’s a perfectly understandable desire that fits into Tomoko’s work ethic and personality. Sure, her last experience as a streamer was an utter failure, but now she’s got a good grasp on what it really takes to be one. My guess about Komiyama doubts stem from her thinking that female streamers become popular largely on their sex appeal, which Tomoko evidently does not have by most accounts.
Tumblr media
Tomokitis (noun) – a rare disease characterized by an irrational lust for little brothers with baggy eyes named Tomoki. Prolonged exposure to Tomoki will worsen the lust to the point where mere proximity will trigger it. Those afflicted are forever hopeless.
Tumblr media
As freaky as Komiyama is, I’m more impressed that her thirst for Tomoki overrides any disgust she may have at the possibility of being related to Tomoko. Well, Tomoki is basically a drug for her at this point, and junkies have accepted far worse to gain their fix.
Tumblr media
Sploosh.
Tumblr media
In the rare possibility that the universe decides to hook up Tomoki and Komiyama, Tomoko is going to make one hell of a cockblocker.
Tumblr media
Shoot, even the cat gets a return appearance. Nico Tanigawa are really putting out all the stops lately with the nostalgia, ain’t they?
Tumblr media
If memory serves, there isn’t a scene in the manga that shows Yuu being particularly interested in cats, so this was actually pulled straight from the anime. You know, that scene in the last episode where Yuu chases down a mentally broken Tomoko only to suddenly stop and pet a kitty? If they're willing to reference anime-original moments like that, then Nico Tanigawa must have fond memories of their anime adaptation.
Tumblr media
Is Yuu taking about the dog or Yoshida? :p
Tumblr media
Okay, so the dog. Wonder how she’d take to being compared to a pig?
Tumblr media
First Pineapple-chan, and now Yuu-chan. It seems pretty mandatory that anybody outside of the loop would think that Yoshida was bullying Tomoko. Of course, once you realize that Tomoko has done things that would get her on the front page of a #MeeToo article, all bets are off.
Tumblr media
Has Tomoko ever been this upfront about how she harasses Yuu? It was always my assumption that this was an unspoken reoccurrence between the two of them. At least the physical stuff anyway, as Tomoko is known for making “jokes” about getting Yuu knocked up. The poor girl really is too sweet for her own good.
Tumblr media
While Yuu may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, that doesn’t mean she’s clueless about the sexual world (she supposedly lost her virginity after all). I’m sure she’s aware that most people wouldn’t tolerate Tomoko “accidental” groping, hence why she questions how someone could not bully her for that.
Tumblr media
It’s pretty ironic how even though Yoshida is probably the most transparent character in the series, Tomoko still can’t figure out if she’s friends with her. That might be Tomoko’s fault somewhat as she’s the type who needs things spelled out to her, and given that Yoshida is more of an “actions speak louder than words” girl, you can see the barrier there. At some point, one of them’s going to have to take that first step and say it to the other’s face if this friendship is going to go places.
Tumblr media
Poor Yuu. The first friend of the series is the last friend to see Tomoko’s growth.
Tumblr media
This has been a headcanon of mine since the very beginning of the series, but I’ve always felt that Yuu Naruse had this inner sadness to her. That underneath her beautiful looks and kind personality was a girl who suffers more than she lets on. Remember, Yuu’s personality is fundamentally the same as it was in middle school, despite all the outwardly changes she made in high school. What Tomoko once called a “debut” could have actually been a survival tactic. Yuu never likes to be a bother, and her way of hiding her emotions isn’t always healthy, whether it’s holding back tears about a terrible beach, or making her friends sing for an hour at karaoke. And heaven forbid her breakup with her ex-boyfriend was uglier than she let on. Worse yet, Yuu knows her weaknesses, which only makes her self-deprecating moments hurt even more.
Perhaps I’m talking out of my ass, but hey, Yuu deserves an overcomplicated character analysis just like all the others.
Tumblr media
And as always, Yuu, the angel she is, always puts Tomoko before herself...
Tumblr media
I find it admirable that Komiyama is so secure about her social life. Her tiny circle of friends and lack of some Tomoki lovin’ have never truly brought her down, and she can even make fun of herself for it. It’s much different from Tomoko’s rampant self-consciousness of the earlier days, Some may argue it’s a lack of shame as opposed to self-confidence, but Komi is clearly making the best out of it.
Tumblr media
Hikari, eh? Other than reminding me of a certain Pokêmon character, I wonder if that’s a joke about how Itou “lights up” when she unleashes her powers of observation.
Tumblr media
...
...
...
So, um...fujoshi anyone?
Tumblr media
The prices one pays to be a friend to Kotomi Komiyama.
All in all, this was a fairly easygoing chapter, as most chapters with the OG trio are. With the emotional rollercoaster that Golden Week had provided us, it’s nice to wind down a bit and reflect on the past. That’s not to say that this is a “recap” chapter by any means. Simply that this self-reflection exists to guide our heroines into the next stage of their young lives. It may be as simple as making a new friend over a perverted Skype call, but if there’s only one thing this series has taught us, it’s that the simple things are just the start of something greater.

Bananas - MikaYuu
Summary: He was making eye contact with Yuichiro Hyakuya for the first time in his life. But it was far too late that he remembered he hadn’t actually bitten into the banana.
Word Count: 1216
Or you could read this on AO3
WARNINGS - There are suicide jokes and references to old political stuff. I don’t know if you may ave a problem with it? It’s a little crack thing, it’s meant to be weird and I wrote it at like 1 in the morning three years ago.
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE THE FIC!
So my old friends and I had this game where we’d give each other a ship, preferably one we've never read but do support, and then find a fanfic for the other to read. And they have to finish it.
Now one of these friends and I had a special version of this game where we actually write this fanfiction, and it's always better if the person writing it is very unfamiliar with the ship. That is how this beauty came along. It was the very first and omg i believe it is the best. The prompt we chose was one is eating a banana. And yes. I wrote this.
This is a warning to you all. This friend really liked it and said that it was pretty good and typical (don't think I will ever believe her) This fanific may be awful. As I said she liked it but, please don't hold it against me I've never seen seraph of the end, just the wikia.
That said I really hope you like it.
AND NOW THE FIC STARTS
Bananas
He may or may not be ashamed to admit it, but Mika had been stalking someone for the majority of the time he had been at Seraph University. He had been attending for two years now.
The subject of his affections was a young man called Yuichiro. He majored in law and was the head of the debate club, his presence, at least to Mika, was everywhere around campus. Most people knew him for how fierce he was at his debates and was leading his class due to pure determination and passion. And Mika loved all of it,
He had first seen Yuu when he had been dragged to a debate and, like many, was in awe of him instantly. The ferocity with which he put his opponent down was both terrifying and inspirational and the extent to which he seemed to be enjoying it managed to get the whole room pumped. It was a big thing for students to partake in, even if it was just spectating. And since that first one, he had never missed another, and thankfully for him, no one really noticed.
However, it didn’t really stop there. Mika had had only a small taste of what was to come. He noticed him more and more around the college, their classrooms were in adjacent buildings so when he saw the other entering the law studies building as he was making his way to a modern history class he subtly changed his schedule to accommodate this fact.
He then realised that same day how during his midday class he could see Yuu having lunch with his friends on the lawn in the small circle of buildings in this wing of the university. Before he realised it his studies had taken a backseat to staring out his window. By some miracle in the last two years he hadn’t yet managed to fail.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was when he realised, the following day, that they shared a biological science minor. The second he saw the other his poor heart skipped a beat.
And so his life began to revolve around him and the other, to his knowledge, was completely oblivious to it. He often congratulated himself on not even having alerted any of his friends yet, at least none of them had ever brought it up.
His life was a long blissful wonderland of angst and disappointment at the knowledge that had long branded itself in his consciousness that this creepy obsession would never be met favourably and that he would probably be forever alone because of this, lucky enough to perhaps one day have the guy as his lawyer. But when he saw Yuu make a face like that he just couldn’t care, he had ice cream on his nose COME ON!?
Anyway, in the present his life had comfortably moulded around both Yu and his own small social life and was currently enjoying lunch while pouring over a history book with a perfect, unobscured view of Yu who was sat across the lawn partaking in a similar activity.
Perestroika means restructuring… foreigners were given more freedom… who was he kidding he couldn’t concentrate. He turned back to his lunch, picking out the banana and peeling away the skin. As he went to take a bite he spared a glance to look across at Yuu and he saw… green. He was met with bright, sharp green eyes and it took him a few dumbstruck seconds to realise that Yuu was looking at him. He was making eye contact with Yuichiro Hyakuya for the first time in his life.
From the distance it was slightly difficult to tell but he saw Yuu begin to blush… and then laugh… a lot… he was laughing a lot… it was adorable but he couldnt exactly tell why he was doing it. It was far too late that he remembered he hadn’t actually bitten into the banana.
He spat it out immediately and kicked it away from him, panting and blushing furiously. He looked back over to Yuu and saw him trying and failing to recover from a laughing fit. And oh God, Mika was embarrassed. He wasn’t just embarrassed but he was going into full on panic mode, the-world-is-falling-around-me-and-I-have-nothing-left-to-live-for-where’s-the-nearest-bridge mode.
He had made eye contact with Yuu at long, long last after two long years of pining after him and the other’s head was probably filled with dirty, embarrassing thoughts that obviously put Mika in the worst light possible. He would just remember him as the banana guy. Great… he’d have to pack his bags and move to Mexico, he’d need a new identity, and quickly, maybe he could become a humble llama shepherd or something. Trump’s wall didn’t really sound so bad anymore.
“Err, are you okay?”
Slowly, ever so slowly, Mika turned to look up and saw Yuu bent over him, a highly amused but also slightly concerned look on his face.
Oh god oh god oh god oh god oh god oh no! What was he doing here? This was way, way worse. I should be in Mexico!
“You… you don’t look very okay.” He looked more concerned this time and Mika’s mind just went on another field trip.
Why is he so cute?! No, don’t make that face! Why aren’t I speaking? Mika say something, QUICK! Hurry up you idiot just say something he thinks you’re a MADMAN! You’re just staring just spit something out already!
“I’m moving to Mexico.” Well done, you are a genius.
He was still mortified when Yuu let out an adorable little laugh. “I’m just going to ignore that. I assume you want me to.” Wh-why is he sitting down. Abort! AboRt! aBOrt! You err…  have to go. You have to Go PacK Your baGs! Screw Mexico next stop Antarctica. “If it’s my fault I’m sorry.”
“NO!” Don’t YELL! “Erm… n-no, d-don’t worry… about it…” He sighed and tried to calm himself down. Putting his thought’s in some sort of jumbled, vibrating order. “It’s my fault. I’m sorry to worry you. You should, um… just go back to your studying or… y’know… whatever.”
Yuu furrowed his brow slightly but still looked amused. That then melted away into a gentle smile and Mika thought that he maybe wouldn’t be able to take much more. “You know… after two years I would have though you would have just said ‘hey’ or something.”
The way his expression changed so quickly would make anyone think he was bipolar or something. To explain it would be implosion. He could feel his entire life falling around him, crushing his frail heart and realised that Antarctica was also out of the question. Yes, a noose would be much more suitable. “W-well… I… that is I… I really don’t have anything to say regarding that…”
“That’s okay. This may be a bad time but… now I have you here… and we’re actually talking and… well um…” He blushed slightly and Mika was now less devastated and more so utterly confused, like when a tiger in a leotard comes waltzing into your living room arm in arm with an albino naturalist in flip flops confused. “Do you want to get a drink or something…? Tomorrow… for lunch?”
Mika could do nothing but faintly nod.
FIN.
There, I'm sure you either thought it was mildly amusing and shall now go on to read something else or thought it was such a horrible representation of your otp and will spam me with hate.
Either way tell me what you think! Please! I'm an attention whore!

Bloom Into You Series Personal Thoughts (Whoops It’s Way Too Personal)
When I discover a new series that I really like, I tend to become obsessive. I have an obsessive personality, or something almost bordering on ADD where I can find it extremely difficult to even pay attention to people talking to me or to focus on or care about just about anything, but when the one thing comes along, it’s all I think about for like 72 hours straight. So that happened with Bloom Into You, and I want to wait a while until the initial honeymoon phase wears off, maybe even until post-series, before I really sit down and write a detailed analysis of it. I only sat down to watch the first episode of the anime like two weeks ago.
But the stories that I obsess over rarely have nothing to do with what’s going on in my real life at the time, and Bloom Into You is no exception.
I sat down and started watching it because I had heard it was one of the standout anime of the season, because I wanted a cute innocent romance, and because it was notable as one of the only positively represented queer anime I had seen in a while. As a huge advocate for LGBTQ characters and stories in media, I was highly intrigued. And it’s true that the love story at the core of it all is incredibly precious and adorable and it turns my heart to mush.
But what I got out of it was much deeper and more personally affecting than I signed up for. And to be honest I’m not sure how I feel about that.
Most people are freaking out about Bloom into You because lesbians, and I don’t blame them. Lesbians in anime, positively represented, with wholesome and non-fetishized relationships. That’s huge and it more than deserves to be celebrated. Loudly. But for me, it wasn’t really that, persay. I’ve never identified as a lesbian or even as someone who likes girls. I’ve always said I was straight, because it’s easy, but I’m not convinced that’s the whole truth either. For me, Bloom Into You hits close to home because of the aromanticism of its main character and the inner torment that she faces because of it.
Speaking with complete transparency, I don’t think I’ve ever had romantic feelings for anyone. And any sexual feelings I’ve ever had towards anyone were limited at best. I just really don’t know. On top of that, I took an SSRI for over four years while I was in college, which managed to mute both my emotions and my sex drive even more than they already were. And having recently finally gone off them, I still can’t tell what’s the meds and what’s me.
At some points in the last four years, and even now, I finally got to a place of inner peace about it. I was like Maki. I accepted that I didn’t experience those feelings and I was totally fine with that—I mean, sure, it sucked a little, but think of all the bullshit I would never have to deal with. I wasn’t interested in anyone like that or in relationships like that and that suited me just fine.
At other points, I wasn’t like Maki at all. I distinctly remember one point early on in my college experience where I realized that I just wasn’t feeling it in general, any of it, and found myself curled up on the floor of my dorm, alone, sobbing over the fact that I would never experience romantic or sexual attraction. I did all sorts of research on asexuality and aromanticism. Is this normal? I would ask myself. Is it normal to be ace and aro and for it to still hurt this much?
In chapter 39, Bloom Into You posits that, perhaps, the distinction between truly ace people like Maki and people like Yuu is that, unlike Maki, Yuu wants to participate. Maybe that is true. It’s just an idea the manga suggests, not a statement. But since I want to participate, does that automatically mean I’m not aro? Am I like Yuu? I’m still not convinced that reality is so clear cut.
Bloom Into You is an incredibly emotional journey for me because it sees Yuu, someone who is either on the ace spectrum or emotionally repressed or a late bloomer or what have you, gradually fall in love in spite of it all. And getting to watch that process play out for her is so incredibly satisfying. Everyone experiences love differently and at a different pace—in many ways that is the inspiring message of Bloom. On the one hand, for Sayaka, love hits her like lightning. We see this at multiple points, whether it’s getting sucked in by that she-demon of a senpai or when she sees Touko for the first time at her opening ceremony and Sayaka reaffirms that she’s gay as shit. Then there’s Touko, who has never experienced attraction before, and again it may be due to lying somewhere on the ace spectrum or perhaps (I find this more likely) due to her crippling fear of getting emotionally involved with others or accepting affection from anyone. But when she meets Yuu, who she instantly recognizes she can open up to and has no reason to fear, it hits her quick. She has all the symptoms of infatuation.
Yuu’s love is different, though no less lovely. In chapter 40, Yuu explains to us and to Touko that she was always waiting for a love that wasn’t her own to just drop in on her, but that her own personal experience of falling in love was much different. She reached out and Touko was there. She chose her, because she was the one that she wanted to love. And that’s how love blossomed between them. It wasn’t instantaneous. It was slow, gradual, touch by touch, moment by moment, oftentimes painfully so. But Yuu’s love for Touko is just as real as Touko’s love for Yuu. It is so moving. It presents a concept of love that is active rather than passive, as something that the heart chooses rather than something that chooses the heart. (Touko even says this to Sayaka while sobbing in chapter 38.) It shows that love can come from anywhere, even from nothing. It makes me wonder, could I do the same? Could I, too, choose love?
Yuu goes on a journey from feeling nothing to feeling something, from apathy to heightened emotion, and watching that lately has forced me to confront the emptiness in my own life. Not just in terms of romance, but on all fronts. My reading of Yuu is that she is depressed…my reading of Touko is that she (is also very much depressed) has severe anxiety, among other things. Both of them struggle with crippling loneliness. But in this touching love story slash coming of age classic, they find and support each other.
I wish that for me the issue was something like, I’ve actually been gay this whole time, and I just didn’t want to admit it, so I convinced myself that I felt no emotions. And once I liberate myself I can go be freely gay and experience love at last. Problem solved. I wish I could just meet someone like Yuu meets Touko, be it a guy or a girl or whomever, and finally feel something. I wish sexuality was all it was.
But what terrifies me is that the reality is much more complicated.
That my issues run much deeper. Maybe all of the shit that’s happened to me over the course of my life has stunted my emotional and sexual development to the point that now it would be a miracle if I ever felt anything again. Maybe it was always there, it just needs to be unearthed from all of my crippling trust issues and emotional repression. Or maybe I really am bisexual and I just need to open myself up to the possibility of romance with women (though I’m not convinced that would be any more successful at making me feel something than my forays into romance with men). Or maybe it just plain isn’t there. Maybe I am truly asexual and aromantic and I have to learn how to live with how much it hurts, how lonely it feels.
At the end of the day, Yuu may lament that she’s never experienced love before, but she really is only like sixteen years old. And as the story goes, she does end up experiencing it.
But me, I’m already twenty-two, and it’s starting to look like it’ll never happen.
Alas, for all of these deep ass themes as well as in spite of them, Bloom into You is an utterly adorable love story that I deeply enjoy and that has touched my heart. Stolen my heart, rather. It is a feat of storytelling and character writing pulled off in a succinct 8-volume, 23 episode (I assume) run. It’s already notable for how well and how normalized it pulls off a wlw romance for an anime of its genre, and it could have stopped there and just given us typical cuteness and fluff and still been great.
Instead, it goes a step (or a mile) farther. Everything about it packs an emotional punch. It grips you and doesn’t let go. It presents a much more complicated view of romantic love between two people than one you expected or probably asked for. What even is love? What is love for you and what is love for me? What is love for Yuu and what is love for Touko? What is the concept of the self, anyway? How do you even begin to process and move beyond the painful past? How do you become you? It begs all of these questions but never quite provides solid answers, because there really aren’t any. All we know is that Yuu and Touko love each other, and it doesn’t matter how or why, and it’s beautiful.

Three-Episode Test: Ink's Winter 2017
Welcome (back) to the Three Episode Test, where contributors give you the low-down on what they're watching from the current simulcast season and why.
Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid
Streaming on Crunchyroll In what turns out to be the ultimate consequence of beer (sake) goggles, office worker Kobayashi wakes up one morning and forgets a kindness she paid to a dragon in distress the previous night while stumbling through the woods. That creature, named Tohru, then shows up at Kobayashi’s door as she opens it to go to work, morphs into a cute maid (complete with horns and a tail), and moves in with Kobayashi. Hijinks ensue.
The whole “human saves creature, then creature returns to repay human in money/love” theme is a common one in Japanese folklore, but this series carries a way sillier tone than most of those folktales straight off the bat. Also, I’ve evidently got a thing for female drinkers in their thirties who work soul-draining jobs and have spherical heads. What can I say?
My interest in Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid lies much more with the defeated malaise with which Kobayashi both walks through her daily life and confronts the reality of supernatural beings than any aspects of her newfound servant or her flying, tail-swinging friends (who also adopt the moé maid form factor as their default domestic countenance). However, I do love some of the choices made in-series regarding the art – specifically colors, framing, postures, and scale. (No pun intended, ‘cause, you know…dragons). This is my surprise long-form comedy of the season.
Fuuka
Streaming on Crunchyroll A sequel of sorts to Suzuka in that it focuses on the daughter of that title’s protagonist, Fuuka features the titular girl, an aimless high school student who loves music, and a boy (Yuu) who comes to be quite stricken by with her. Fuuka suddenly obsesses over starting a band after meeting the well-intentioned but hapless Yuu, who seems fated to accidentally stare at Fuuka’s panties. But those aren’t the only panties peeking out at Yuu; his sisters can never seem to find anything to wear (literally), and a long-separated childhood friend-turned-pop idol just so happens to suddenly give him a call, a visit, and a romantic conflict.
The first three minutes, let alone those that follow throughout the first three episodes, show exactly what this series is going to be. Even though I’m a sucker for a love triangle drama, overly detailed fanservice and the abundance of it (evidently a trademark of Kouji Seo, the original work’s manga-ka), literally shoved in viewers’ faces via a camera with zero sense of personal space and a leerer’s eye for a lens, severely detracts from what could be the series’ saving graces: Fuuka’s independence and flirty forthrightness; a slightly less-than-usual milquetoast male protagonist; and earnestly inspiring moments of clarity/awe. Other than the cliffhanger confrontation at the end of Episode 3, there’s far too little to entice me to watch this weekly or continue at all.
Interviews with Monster Girls
Streaming on Crunchyroll As a biology teacher, Tetsuo Takahashi takes a particular interest in the demi-humans – a vampire, a snow girl (yuki onna), a headless girl (dullahan), and a succubus – present at Shibasaki High. Not knowing too much about the daily lives of monster girls, Tetsuo decides to sit down with each and talk with them to gain a greater understanding of both his students and life as creatures not wholly human.
After my gag reflex to Monster Musume, I did not, in any way, ever see myself watching Interviews with Monster Girls (much less genuinely enjoying it). And while this show could easily be titled “Interviews with Mo(nst)é(r) Girls,” the setting, the girls’ ages, and the fact that they’re effectively minorities in a “normal” human school justify their design and demeanor. On top of that, and even though there’s a harem air regarding the male protagonist and the supporting female cast (all the students and even one of the teachers are in love with him to some degree), the series manages to avoid the outright lewd and capture both the humor and reminiscent sweetness inherent in (first) crushes and awkward situations. To that, there’s a great bit of subversion going on regarding the succubus being portrayed as a typical “glasses girl” in an effort to not appeal to a moé-seeking audience, and the detail given to the animation of the dullahan’s eyes, hands, and arms is probably the best thing about the series. All this makes for a good enough excuse to keep watching weekly.
Saga of Tanya the Evil
Streaming on Crunchyroll In 2013, a callous salaryman/axman gets shoved in front of a train by a disgruntled ex-employee, meets (a) god, and is reincarnated as a little girl (Tanya Degurechaff) in a Germany-like state during a WWI-like war wherein mages provide areal support for ground troops. Cursed by the god she meets and refuses to acknowledge as such (calling it “Being X” instead), Tanya is born with great magical potential but can only use it if she says a prayer first. This is the means by which Being X hopes to instill faith into the salaryman’s soul.
Saga of Tanya the Evil (a much better title than the original Youjo Senki in that it is much sillier) is everything my melodramatic teenage self would have loved. And honestly the outright internal resistance to organized religion or the concept of God in general is still something that strikes a chord with me. Older me likes the more subdued commentary, such as the admission from God in Episode 2 that “Administering seven billion people is already beyond my capacity” as delivered through a frozen-in-time salaryman vessel who’s tired and slumped over his own watch. Teenage me really just likes Tanya’s selfishness and wickedness and things that go boom. Also, the series is pretty much drawn to give excuses to make Tanya smile like a demon, and it’s a pretty great reason to watch. Her VA also really brings the character to life.
One Room
Streaming on Crunchyroll During this series comprised of less-than-four-minute, POV-based shorts, you're behind the eyes of a mute, university-aged male who gets a knock on his Tokyo apartment door one day. The person knocking turns out to be Hanasaka Yui, a young girl who has just moved into the adjacent apartment. The first, second, and third episodes are, respectively, dedicated to her introduction, her tutelage and going to a public bath, and her cooking and (more) tutelage – all in one room...your room. (Except the public bath…that takes place in a public bath.)
For the loneliness deterrent/masturbation aid it is meant to be to its target audience, this is a fine example of an anime that never needed to be made. My only real gripe with the show, keeping in mind its intended audience, is that it only mostly holds to first person perspective. That is to say that the camera, the show’s very premise, wanders whenever (and wherever) it feels like it. Each betrayal of the show’s mission statement is mostly to ogle Hanasaka from the rear or side (in cuts too quick to be anything other than third person) or her chest (from her own perspective). As is the case when Hanasaka enters an empty room at the beginning of Episode 2, sometimes the camera isn’t even employed for POV and instead simply serves to establish the setting. And while that example might make the case for the first person perspective to be from the room itself, that is obviously not the case; there are different locales after all, and differences in the height from which you, the viewer, look at this girl range from eyelevel to a god-like areal vantage of disapproval.
Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories 4 (sequel)
Streaming on Crunchyroll Based on the kamishibai aesthetic, Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories specializes in a specific type of scare in each and every season. The first season brings boo scares based on the art style’s uncanny valley effect and laudable storyboarding. The second season focuses on mental distress applied to metaphysical horror. And the highly contested third season, of which Jared and I also talk about at length, brings monster-based horror home in a wonderfully surprising frame story. So what does Season 4 offer so far?
To start, the fourth season of Yamishibai focuses on narration – a typical and prominent aspect of anime against which I usually (and still do) rail. I’ve mixed feelings about it here though. Vocal exposition falls in line with that of the previous seasons, but narration, which lasts the entirety of each tale, at once dilutes the visual execution while imparting inflections, an overall tone, and a pacing that lends to the aural ambience of the story itself. Did I mention that the narrator is a different VA, including a Noh master, in each episode? In another first, Season 4 integrates live action snippets. This simultaneously imparts a jarring otherworldliness and laughable juxtaposition. It’s not the best visual direction, especially given the hitherto held execution of the series, but it’s a strike at something new, and occasionally, even in the first few episodes, it works enough to keep curiosity alive.
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju: Descending Stories (sequel)
Streaming on Crunchyroll I’m admittedly cheating on this one since a prior review obligation to the first season made me wait to indulge in the second. In short: I’ve yet to see the requisite three episodes to talk about this sequel to my 2016 AOTY. But if you listen to the two-plus hour podcast I did with Jared, there’s obviously no way in hell I’d not watch the second season in its entirety. I’m invested in these characters and want to see where the story takes them and how it takes them there. Think of the possibilities inherent in the title's pun (pun intended)!

Tri-Arame: Take the Lead Right
Primary Pairing Trio: YuuAyuSetsu Words: ~1.4k Rating: T with my signature implied off camera M finish Time Frame: First year of college? Maybe second? Dunno yet Story Arc: Stand Alone
----------
Author’s Note: I really do intend to write some scenes for my other fics, honest. But a, I can’t help where my µ’s muse leads and b, I checked a few versions of the ship tag last time and found the results... lacking.
Also, the link to the inspiration for this scene will be in the followup post.
----------
“Mmm… that was so~ good…” Yuu leaned back and let out a content sigh. “Setsuna-chan and I are becoming a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen.” She grinned. “Maybe someday we’ll be as good as you, Ayumu.”
“I think you may already be there.” Ayumu said, raising her last bite as if to toast the idea.
Setsuna shook her head. “No, I believe Ayumu-san is still the best cook among us.” She offered a smile to the blushing redhead before picking up her plate.
“I’ll take that.” Ayumu said, reaching over. “You two made dinner, so I’ll clean up.”
“You sure?” Yuu asked.
Ayumu nodded. “I should be done before the episode airs if one of you wants to set things up.” With that said, she stacked the three plates and moved everything over to the sink.
As she began washing, Ayumu couldn’t help glancing over regularly toward the others. She enjoyed watching Setsuna’s excitement as she unlocked Ayumu’s laptop and brought up the streaming site. It came as no surprise that a moment later, sounds from the previous episode started coming out of the speakers as the anime addicted girl skimmed through it for a review.
For her part, Yuu remained in her prior position. From there, she could see the screen, but like Ayumu, she seemed more content with watching Setsuna.
“Ne, do you think we have enough time to make tea?” Yuu suddenly asked after a few minutes.
“Probably.” Ayumu responded. “Want me to put on the kettle?
“I’ll get it.” The twin-tailed girl bounced up. “Anyone else want some?”
“Yes, please.” The redhead nodded.
“Setsuna-chan?” Yuu asked.
“Mm?” The raven-haired girl startled from her review session and looked up.
“Tea?”
“Oh, yes, sorry, yes, thank you, please.” Despite where her gaze was directed, her attention was obviously still on the show.
Yuu laughed lightly and moved to the kitchen to fill the kettle. Not long after, Ayumu finished with the dishes and headed back to the kotatsu. However, instead of taking her usual spot on her own side, she settled in directly next to the girl already there. For her part, Setsuna glanced over and offered a quick smile.
Once the tea was ready, Yuu brought it out to the table and sat down on the other side of Setsuna from Ayumu. It was almost perfectly timed as Setsuna was ready to switch tabs, refresh and begin streaming the newly uploaded episode. Finally settled, the trio, crowded comfortably together, began to watch.
As far as Ayumu was concerned, the anime in question was yet another high fantasy with powerful heroes, dastardly villains and a decidedly contrived romantic subplot. But Setsuna was utterly obsessed with it, having collected the entire manga set, several hard copies of popular doujinshi, a few posters and even figures of two main heroines. And Yuu was quite enthusiastic about the series as well, though nowhere near Setsuna’s level.
As such, it was more her girlfriends’ passion for the series that interested Ayumu than the anime itself, but she paid attention nonetheless so she could participate in the conversations that would inevitably follow the ending credits. Tonight’s episode was particularly important as it was the season finale.
And befitting of a season finale of such a series, the action was packed to the brim as the heroes confronted the villain. Still, despite the visual spectacle, Ayumu stole many glances over to her girlfriends to observe their riveted attention. But when the big bad was finally defeated and the storyline began to wrap up, Ayumu expected the other two to relax a little. Except they didn’t. Both Yuu and Setsuna continued to stare, almost unblinking at the screen.
Were they expecting something else to happ… Oh…
“Awww~…” Setsuna, unsurprisingly, was the one to vocalize her reaction as the protagonist confessed her feelings to the heroine who had fought by her side for so long.
The scene was a sweet and fitting culmination of everything that had happened between the them, but Ayumu couldn’t help feeling like things could have been handled better. Early development had felt awkward and forced and it had taken more than a couple episodes before Ayumu could agree the two had chemistry. It was quite different from the angelic doujin Setsuna loved so mu…
Eh?
Ayumu blinked as something soft pressed gently against her cheek. And as quickly and unexpectedly as it had come, it was gone. She turned her head just in time to catch Setsuna leaning over to peck a kiss on Yuu’s cheek as well. Then, with a blossoming blush, Setsuna settled back down and began fidgeting with the hem of her shorts.
Cute. By the gods was that cute. But… is Setsuna-chan really satisfied with just that much?
Ayumu was all too aware that Setsuna maintained a fear of pushing her desires onto others. It was why she refused to take any sort of official leadership role within their school idol club when it reformed, despite the other members respecting her knowledge concerning idols and regularly turning to her for advice. Ayumu assumed this was also why Setsuna seldom was the one to offer invites for her friends to join her in shopping for anime merchandise, even after the three of them had a fairly well-established tradition of going together. She would sooner go by herself than believe she was inconveniencing a friend with her own desires.
And while Setsuna had become fairly open with hugs and holding hands, this felt different. Very different. And Ayumu was more than a little intrigued. And she wished she could give voice to her thoughts and tell Setsuna that it was alright to desire such things from her girlfriends as they were more than willing to participate.
“Setsuna-chan.” Yuu broke the quite among them.
“Y-yes?” Setsuna sputtered in response. “Wh-what is it, Y…?” She was cutoff as Yuu leaned in and pressed her lips against hers.
Something twisted within Ayumu. Apparently, she wasn’t just intrigued…
“Hah…” Setsuna breathed as the two parted. Her head wobbled a bit as her expression became dazed.
Yuu chuckled. “If you want to take the lead, you should at least go that far.”
“R-right…” Setsuna pouted as her blush deepened.
More. Ayumu also wanted more than just a peck on the cheek, and more than that.
Of course, that would mean she would be the one taking the lead at this point. Ayumu understood Setsuna’s reluctance to push beyond where she had left off. And it didn’t help that Yuu had teased her about the times she had given in fully to her desires and done whatever had been necessary to satiate them.
But who could blame her for giving into the temptation provided by not just one, but two irresistible girlfriends? And now, tensions were obviously mounting among them, Setsuna was adorably flustered, and Yuu was sitting with a smirk that made Ayumu want to wipe it off her face with her lips. Of course, her desires would be boiling over at this point.
Oh, to heck with it. Let Yuu tease her later, she could be embarrassed then. If neither Yuu nor Setsuna were going to do anything else, Ayumu would.
Setsuna jumped with surprise as Ayumu placed her hand on her cheek and guided her into a kiss.
Yuu giggled. “Looks like Ayumu can go that far.”
Though the teasing was likely directed more at Setsuna, Ayumu felt the need to respond as she pulled away a little.
“But why only stop there, Yuu-chan?” The redhead murmured before trailing a few kisses across Setsuna’s cheek. She smiled as the raven-haired girl shivered when her teeth grazed her ear. “Why not go even farther?”
“That’s a good point.” The green-tipped girl conceded.
“Ayumu-san… Yuu-s-Ah!” Setsuna gasped as Yuu joined in.
As Ayumu made her way down Setsuna’s neck, she placed a hand on her shoulder and began to guide her down. Out of the corner of her eye, she noted that the credits were rolling for the anime stream and made a mental note to apologize to Setsuna for making her miss the last few minutes, as well as delaying the post-credit discussion.
As for that conversation, Setsuna could take the lead for it as that was one place where she excelled. And perhaps someday she might have the confidence to take the lead right in the trio’s current activities.
However, for the time being, Ayumu knew that if her desires were to be fully sated, she would have to be the one to forget her reservations and progress things. It wasn’t easy, but…
Setsuna whimpered.
Yuu moaned.
… or… perhaps maybe it was…

BECAUSE I’M NOT POPULAR, I’LL READ WATAMOTE: CHAPTER #113
So Nico Tanigawa get a little experimental by not only giving us the long awaited second part of the Valentine’s Day “arc”, but it serves as a continuation of the Tomoki’s Dick “arc”. As many have guessed, this chapter occurs in the same time frame as the previous chapter, only this one focuses on the Pervert Sisters, Komiyama and Akari. Let the cringing begin.
Chapter 113: Because I’m Not Popular, I’ll Enjoy Valentine’s Day (Part 2)
Tumblr media
I appreciate the change in Komiyama and Akari’s relationship as of late. It set itself up as the love rivals competing for Tomoki’s affections. But ever since Akari realized that she and Komiyama were more alike than she thought (dick fanatics), they’ve gone on to become rather friendly with each other, to the point of supporting the other’s advances towards Tomoki. Vicious love triangle be damned.
Tumblr media
“UOOOOOOH!” should be her running gag.
Tumblr media
Dat flowery background though. I feel like this is such a manga thing–a cute girl dons an apron in preparation to start cooking something, and suddenly her feminine appeal goes off the charts. There’s some sexism in there, for sure, but I don’t think the mangaka is necessarily going for that. More like, her attractiveness comes from her taking the initiative as a means to help Komiyama. At least, for me it is.

See, I like the approach they’re taking this chapter. In addition to making chocolates that would appeal to Tomoki, Komiyama also wants to make chocolates that she herself would enjoy. It’s a roundabout way of her presenting herself to Tomoki as someone who’s not just obsessed with dicks all the time. Respect, Komi-something.
Tumblr media
Wow, those turned out really good. Also, I see where this is going.
Tumblr media
A wild Ucchi appeared! Smart move to have her show up after we learned just what she was doing exactly in the previous chapter. Who’s the stalker now?
Tumblr media
Wow, no shame at all. I think it’s kind of funny that Komiyama is getting character...well, I wouldn’t say development, but she definitely seems happier this way. I know people like to joke that Tomoko is like a disease making everyone around her more awkward and perverted, and in the case of Komiyama, her perverted side is still the same, but she’s largely become more accepting of it. As Tomoki would call her, a “pure pervert”.
Tumblr media
I actually went back and found out when this happened. Turns out it was in chapter 41. Back then, we didn’t know whether or not Tomoki accepted them. Nice to see that Nico Tanigawa haven’t forgotten small details like this.
Tumblr media
The ol’, “bump into each other and unknowingly switch packages” cliche. Indeed, this does seem a bit too straightforward for Nico Tanigawa, so how do they mix it up?...
Tumblr media
...By having the contents of the packages be perceived as the same when they actually aren’t.
Tumblr media
This is the face of pure, unrestrained horror.
So it’s been confirmed that Tomoko’s gift to harass Yuu-chan was basically a chocolate penis. I might find something like that inappropriate even for Tomoko, but given that Yuu-chan once gave her a set of Sailor “Poon” condoms, it’s clear to me that their relationship is um, open enough for them to do these kind of things without reservation.
*snicker* Dick Sister Jr.
Tumblr media
The parallels in this panel are hilarious. Here, Akari is in a frenzy trying to find Komiyama and prevent an absolute disaster. And also here, Ucchi is in a frenzy trying to find Tomoko so she can give her chocolates, despite them being just “leftovers”. I swear, one of these days, the inevitable confession scenes with these two will be the death of me.
Tumblr media
I’m not too familiar with Japanese censorship laws, but why is it that the “balls” of the chocolate are pixelated as opposed to the “head”?
Tumblr media
Is that what the kids are calling it these days? Either way, my heart goes out to Komiyama. Sorry girl, but that curse is pretty much destined to stay with you for many Valentine’s Days to come.
Tumblr media
Saw the punchline coming an ocean away. Still hilarious as all hell.
You know what’s stupendous? This whole chapter is essentially a callback to when Tomoko first misheard Komiyama’s “choc...” as “cock” back in chapter 47. Back then, Komiyama was a victim of Tomoko being, well, Tomoko. This time, however, the misunderstanding was instigated by Komiyama herself. Not sure if that’s an improvement or not.
Gotta say, I love the format they went for in this arc. A lot of the comedy here would have felt flat had we not had the previous chapter to set up all the jokes. Ucchi running away in the background make for a lot of hilarity in hindsight, and Tomoki dismissing Tomoko’s questioning in the previous chapter makes a lot more sense. Bravo, I must say,
Here’s hoping we get a Part 3 so we can solve the mystery of Who Put Chocolates in Tomoko’s Desk.
