it's a very fun comedy movie with a side of action and a stellar cast, and you will be very invested in the Happenings while unable to guess what's coming next, and the cinematography is fantastic which is just the beautiful cherry on top

I got a good feeling about "The Acolyte"
Not even kidding. Like, I've spoken before about why I'm wary of it.
George Lucas' Star Wars is something that intentionally has black and white morality, rather than shades of gray. Those movies are meant for kids and projecting a "gray" morality onto them then proclaiming it was George's vision all along is doing so in bad faith.
The narrative of the Prequels doesn't frame the Prequel Jedi in as negative a light as Leslye Headland, Dave Filoni, etc etc do.
See here for more details, but bottom line: yeah, a show that has a darksider as the underdog is bound to demonize the Jedi (who are the actual underdogs in the Prequels), and obviously that rubs me the wrong way.
BUT.
The trailer looks fucking cool. It really really does.
youtube
And more importantly? I've done some research... and Leslye Headland is ticking a lot of good boxes, in my book.
1. The Acolyte won't be a 10-hour movie.
I've criticized Disney Plus shows before, explaining that a big source for most of their issues is that these series are being structured as "long movies" rather than, y'know, actual shows.
But in this interview with Collider, Headland addresses that: it'll be a series. Not a long movie that you need to watch across four weeks.
Tumblr media
Thank God. You have no idea how much that comforts me. Finally a showrunner who's, y'know, actually running a show.
And this goes hand in hand with what she told IGN, here, about how she's going about building suspense.
Tumblr media
Yes! Exactly! That's how it's supposed to be!
Like, compare this to Baylan Skoll's storyline in Ahsoka.
In no possible way was that emotionally-fulfilling. For 8 episodes we had no idea what he was after, and the season ended where we still don't know. What does he want? What is he after? Your guess is as good as mine, it's something Mortis-related.
So yeah. Maybe getting the Emmy-nominated trained screenwriter on board to run this was a good idea.
2. Maybe the Jedi will not be as demonized as I originally thought.
Don't get me wrong. 80% of what she says about the Jedi makes me cringe. It's the typical fan's interpretation and y'all know I disagree with that interpretation.
Tumblr media
It's painful to see her refer to the Jedi as an institution (not how the Prequels' narrative frames them) and to see her frame "Balance" in the "oh there's so many of them and just two Sith, that means the Force is out of balance" meaning... but at least she acknowledges the Jedi are a benevolent institution.
They're not an "elitist force hiding in their ivory tower" as others have described the Jedi.
Moreover, there'll be a variety of Jedi POVs, many personalities.
Tumblr media
Yord Fandar, is described as a strictly by-the-book Jedi Knight and guardian from the Jedi Temple, is an overachiever and a rule follower.
The question now becomes: will the narrative frame him as "your typical Jedi" or is it just this one guy? I'm hoping it's the latter.
I also like how her reasoning goes re: Jedi drawing their lightsabers.
Tumblr media
Which explains the hand-to-hand combat seen in the trailer.
Tumblr media
This teenager is coming at Carrie-Ann Moss with a dagger, of course the Jedi won't draw her saber.
3. She's a fan of Star Wars... but a screenwriter first.
You can tell in the interviews she's a fan. She's using words like "BBY" and "EU" casually. In the above-linked interviews she's bringing up the Nightsisters, Timothy Zahn, The Clone Wars, she mentions she has a tattoo of Ralph McQuarrie's concept art of Leia, the High Republic books, etc.
She's done her homework. She's a fan.
But the vibe I'm getting from these interviews is that she's weaving in these various lore-elements in a more organic way, rather than in the "fan-servicey" way Dave Filoni has been doing in his shows.
The references and Easter Eggs will be there, but the narrative won't bend over itself just so you can get it. Crafting a good story comes first, and Andor is a beautiful illustration of why this is true.
Tumblr media
Which is why I was never bothered about one of the writers never having watched Star Wars before getting the job. You need those fresh eyes when you're tackling something of this scale.
That makes sense to me. Maybe it's because of my own screenwriting experience, but yeah. That out-of-the box perspective is precious.
And like, obviously, that writer watched the films eventually, but for some reason everyone who bitched about Headland omitted that detail and opted for a more bad faith interpretation.
Hm. Wonder why.
Maybe it's the same reason that months ago this clipped audio circulated socials without context, in which she debates whether Star Wars only came from George Lucas and only Lucas is the key.
Tumblr media
The FULL context of that interview reveals that she's actually:
debating the "autheur director" myth and positing that it was achieved by a collective of excellent filmmakers and craftspeople that George was skilled and smart enough to recruit...
the studios now think it's a simple as hiring one guy and throwing money at him, because they have no idea what the fuck they're talking about. See Napoleon (2023) for example.
Yes, she also does a jab to the Prequels, which speaks to the generation of fans she's a part of... but overall she's giving Lucas props whilst also stating an ideological difference, that's it!
George is a proponent of the "autheur" theory, Leslye isn't.
However, guess what, in like half the talks George gave post-selling Star Wars? He's giving shoutouts to everyone who helped make the first film, even remembering their names.
So I'm not even sure he'd vehemently disagree with Leslye, in fact they'd prolly have a conversation about it and immediately bitch about how stupid studio executives are :D
But that's not as incendiary, is it? Again, the more I do the research, the more it feels like the reason most of these influencers are hating on her is purely sexist.
I mean, on IGN she's even acknowledging that she does plan on taking stock of fan reactions for Season 2.
Tumblr media
It's not a guarantee that she'll incorporate the feedback, but at least that's more consideration than, say, JJ Abrams or Rian Johnson gave the fandom.
She's even bringing the moral ambiguity that the Gray Jedi-loving edge-lords love so much.
Tumblr media
"No, she's a woke feminist! Anything she does is evil! Eww, girls!"
🙄
Needless to say... I'm gonna give it a shot.
I think it's gonna be a good show, I think it's gonna be a solid story.
I'm crossing my fingers that they won't as biased against the Jedi as it seems they'll be. Even if they are... if it's still an enjoyable experience, I'll gloss over it.
As @gffa states in this post:
Worst case? It's not a story from George. I can dismiss it from my headcanon without a moment's hesitation :D

Hollow Sorrows Trailer Breakdown LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOO
Obviously, if you don't want spoilers, scroll away. If you've already seen the trailer, LET'S GO!!!
Tumblr media
So when we first see possessed Patty, she looks mostly normal, you can't even see her demon teeth through the mask yet. John and Jack probably only came in since they heard a scream and/or struggle coming from the morgue.
Tumblr media
So we get a shot of the boys being too chaotic, something Gregor points out and what will likely cause the "bad character development" Pelo ahs mentioned.
Also, since it's 100% what Pelo would do, Costume Bob is the guy in the HF suit. Mark my words.
Tumblr media
The scene with the hatz is really interesting to me, since Skid and Pump just annoys Roy for a moment and leave. I think this might be all we get of the hatzgang this time, similar to how Frank only had a brief Appearance in Tender Treats. If my theory that episode 7 will focus on Roy is true, this little scene will be very interesting to dissect when the full episode drops.
Tumblr media
We actually get out first proper glimpse at a new character and I think this old man is the very last character in the line up teaser
Tumblr media
And there's also a pretty good chance he Roy's grandfather and given the way he reacts to the boys antics here, I can definitely see him being a another reasons Roy's the way he is.
If he actually is Roy's grandpa, then @crossover-enthusiast and I's Roy discussions are going to get really fun pretty soon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here, Skid is clearly holding a framed photo, meaning this will almost certainly be the first time his father is brought up directly.
Also, yeah, with Pump's line about "hangover spooky month", it seems my theory about Lila in this episode was at least half right.
Tumblr media
Yet more proof that the boys' absent parents will be more of a focus. The trailer as a whole gives me some ideas regarding the Wonder parents, but I feel they're best saved for another time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The boys get into trouble with the cops and I have 2 theories regarding when, either Gregor tries to get them sent home before going to the hospital, but they talk their way out of it, or they actually do get sent home at the end of the episode.
John's expression here immediately makes we think that something Skid or Pump said reminded him of his daughter. Another plot thread that has yet to be directly acknowledged.
Tumblr media
Ignacio watches Gregor lead the boys away, maybe he lives down the street from Skid and Lila to keep an eye on them for the cult?
Either way, I'm surprised his appearance won't take place in the hospital as I previously predicted.
Tumblr media
"I will be your guide. And I know your parents would be proud of you."
There's something undeniably sinister about this line, but how sinister hinges on whether Gregor is a cultist or ex-cultist. Whatever the case may be, he definitely knows more about or sees more in the boys than he lets on.
Tumblr media
A great title card, and thought the blood everywhere is definitely concerning, I don't think there's anything to really say here, just wanted to get a screenshot of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it would appear the character I've referred to as the cat lady will have the unenviable role of a hapless victim to the episode's villain. But honestly, I'm more surprised by her being at the hospital in the first place and why that never occurred to me before.
The actual progression of Patty's possession confirms to she's possessed by something other than Moloch. And what seals it for me is, fittingly, the eyes. The white of her eyes becomes a more vivid yellow, yet her pupil snot only don't form Moloch's typical spirals, but they're a more vivid shade of baby blue, a color that has never had any significance in the series before. Moloch will mostly be trapped in Dexter before eventually possessing Gregor, I will die on this hill.
Tumblr media
AND THE FUGGIN' RELEASE DATE!!!
Alright, that's all, only a month now. We're so back!

Finished Felvidek and had a grand time!
Thought I'd do a lil list of things/moments/details I loved off the top of my head:
gave cursed coffee bean to a chicken and it mutated. Did it for science
game's got some twin peaks vibes, some monty python, a tad of hylics, along it a bunch of other ingredients, but it feels very much its own thing with its own identity
pear man and his daughters deserve the world, wish we hung out more
there's a fight with an invisible enemy, all your attacks miss because your guys can't see shit and I was laughing just imagining Pavol and Matej swinging their swords at nothing hoping to slay the forest fiend. Very Don Quixote, I love it.
the PS1 style cutscenes are sooooo beautiful I love them to pieces, they drip with style and charm. I knew I needed to give this game a go the moment I watched the trailer and was greeted by the cinematics. God I love them so much. And not just the syle but the directing itself, the way shots are framed, god...
I love the character portraits for everyone. There's so much detail and everyone feels unique/like an actual person with distinct features. From the Priest's very punchable face, to Pavol's grin to Josef's sexy ass... From main characters to NPCs to enemy sprites, I love everyone's design and colour coding (don't know if it was intentional but the purple for the cultists was neat, seemed to subtly imply early on that they were being funded by rich folk, since pruple is associated with nobility, power and wealth)
speaking of character design, shout-out to this lil guy, look at him please
Tumblr media
Numnut the drunkard my beloved, I recruited him and less than a minute later he fell on flat ground into a nearby river (and drowns???). I reloaded a previous save to see if I could have him in my party a lil longer. I took a different path, got into a fight. "yay I get to see him in action!"- I thought. I used his one special move, called: 'good idea', and Numnut proceeds to punch his own face, dealing 90 damage (not even in the endgame did I deal such high numbers!). THE Character of all time, he drowned again after that and I'll never forget him.
BALLOON IN THE MIDDLE AGES! (possible Andrei Rublev reference? I can dream...)
just, the way things are worded:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
cutting people's ears after killing them as spoils (and giving the ears to a maiden, as you do)
Tumblr media
there's a quest where you have to cut a man's tattooed buttock to give to another guy, and it's all for nothing, you ruined a man's ass for nothing. I love it. The dialogue during this whole section had me dying.
I love that there's just this guy who lives in the castle's well. And our boy Pavol thinks it's a great idea to throw a bomb in there to make him come out.
this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's these lil inisghtful and mournfoul comments on the dead bodies you leave behind. Like, expressing regret at all the senseless violence and death or how cheap life is here. And I'm not sure if it's Pavol or Matej making them. It makes more sense for it to be Matej but I kinda like the idea of it being Pavol's comments, these small moments of introspection and realization in the midst of a drunken adventure. You've been engaging in all the violence while pissed drunk but then after you kill your opponents and look at their corpses... and it's like this sobering moment, before you're back at it with all the merry-making (I also like that a lot of these bodies don't disappear and just remain on screen, and you can see the carnage your guys leave behind in their quest)
the whole adventure felt to me like, this series of odd little events in a knight's life before it's passed down, told by and retold by different people, and after many generations it's been touched up and made more coherent and noble than the clusterfuck it actually was. Before it became a narrative I guess is what I mean
it can get a bit wordy and hard to follow but I really like the old timey way the dialogue is written and its dry sense of humour
there's these little subversions of gaming tropes that I found really fun too! Like as soon as Pavol's wife and your falling out with her is introduced you may expect a reconciliation between the two, or a moment where you have to save her and prove your worth and love to her to win her heart. As you would expect from a story with a knight and a damsel. But no she hates his guts lmao tries to murder him too! (tho I do think Pavol took her in that balloon ride at the end). There's also the fact that I am not allowed to play minigames! Josef wants to play tabletop games but your character always replies no. No minigames for you son! And like, this feels especially catered to me as someone who, more often than not, will dread whenever a game will introduce some sort of card game or the like. I was so happy that wasn't forced on me for once! Couldn't believe it. Kinda felt bad for Josef tho, I'm sorry Pavol doesn't wanna play Pexeso wth you.
the battle animations! I'm particularly fond of the eating porridge one, or the chugging down a bucket of sour cream, and the petard
the little *slaps face* animation
Pavol and Matej as a duo and the whole tavern scene with the two exchanging clothes
the lil moments of humanity where Pavol talks about his broken life and sense of self
the rare moments when Pavol stops grinning
Tumblr media
it goes without saying but the art is absolutely gorgeous. Its nostalgic monochrome melancholy speaks to me on a deep spiritual level. Inject it directly into my bone marrow please. Shout-out also to the ost, it fucks and has tons of bangers. The Hrad track, the one that plays on Josef's castle... god... love at first listen, and have been listening nonstop for the last few days now while going on walks.

Yeah to add to that anon, I've been coming across some stuff on different platforms as well in the last 24 hours and honestly, I'm very disappointed in some individuals. I can see where show fans were coming from to some extent only accepting what was shown. Some of them got way out of hand, but some of these comments are now coming from people that have been in the fandom. I know Sam was also subjected to this but if I'm being honest, I think it's worse for Jacob because he already had to hear, and still is hearing it, just for being casted. There are the normal comments on YouTube making comments about Claudia/Assad/Jacob's race which I think as a fandom we have come to sadly expect, but I'm very disheartened to see it with some individuals in the fandom who were criticizing the group (and rightfully so) doing it to Sam last year that are now being just as ugly and/or insensitive toward Jacob, Claudia, and/or Assad.
-I've seen someone refer to Louis as Amber Heard and Sam as Johnny Deep.
-Tumblr posts saying Louis has manipulated Lestat the entire time and only did anything wrong (Antoinette, etc) in response to Louis' manipulations.
-There are some comments on a subreddit not under the IWTV subreddit saying that the the showrunners need to realize that Sam is the only reason people are watching the show.
-Another stating they are glad Louis is going to be exposed as a liar so maybe people will lose interest in Loustat and consider replacing him with Nicki.
-Another comment saying Louis/Jacob should be killed off along with Claudia because he is the true abuser and they don't want to see Lestat yearning for him after wronging Lestat.
-Another conversation that started as a discussion with Lestat's bloody frame from the trailer that ended in criticizing Rolin's comments about keeping Jacob around longer than season 2 because they would prefer to see Lestat with other love interests that are worthy of him.
-Another attacking Assad's looks.
-Another suggesting other actors who should have been casted as IWTV characters, rating them lowly, and detailing what is wrong with their looks in a discord. Poor Assad is getting the brunt of that one.
-A tweet from someone outside of the fandom complaining about the iwtv fandom for crossing the line with Eric and saying they should be jailed so I'm assuming it was not a pleasant exchange.
It is ridiculous and I had to get off IWTV related media today because it also crossed my mind that Jacob and Assad could probably see a lot of this. I commented this and was told "well they did it to sam so now it's jacob's turn."
How… nice.
Some points of this I actually saw, so…
Tbh, the cast is aware of the backlash just look at how nervous Sam was at the SDCC panel (and that was before the main shit even started). They know. And I also think it is no coincidence that Jacob withdrew a bit or that Assad was shit scared of taking on Armand.
This story comes with baggage because for some reason people just cannot stay polite. Don’t see the human behind the screen. Separate them from the role. Ugh. It makes me want to scream.
I really wished I‘d been wrong there, honestly 😒
I expect it to get worse before it gets better and I can only recommend that everyone curates their bubble / feed accordingly.

Munson's Mixtape
Tumblr media
MASTERLIST
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Cunningham!Reader
Word Count: 3,470
Warnings: Mrs. Cunningham being a bitch, Mention of the Devil, Death (Chrissy, Fred, Patrick), References to Jason being an asshole.
Summary: Chrissy has been acting weird, and like a good big sister Y/N drives to Hawkins from Notre Dame to check in on her. Only to find out she has plans to meet up with Eddie Munson. Things take a turn for the worse and now Y/N gets wrapped in to the horrors of Hawkins. Hey, at least she has the company of the guitarist she was sweet on back in high school for comfort.
Author’s Note: Hope you guys liked this chapter! The next one will have Eddie reuniting with his lady in the trailer... but be warned. Next chapter won't be all sunshine and rainbows.
Track Fifteen
Y/N has never been in the back of a police car. Not once in her 20 years of life. She was always careful, anything to avoid her mother's wrath if she dared to do something untoward. However, her two decade long streak has come to a screeching halt. She was currently sitting in the back of Chief Powell's SUV, with Max Mayfield sitting beside her. Dustin and Lucas were in another car, and they were all heading to the Wheeler household. Y/N had asked the chief of police to stop at Rick's car to grab the duffle bag she had taken from her house. He agreed, and now she was peeling through Chrissy's diary trying to find something to back her story up. If she was going to successfully pin this thing on Jason, she needed more solid proof than her word.
Max was looking at her like she was insane, but kept her mouth shut. She was a smart girl, and knew better than to ask her what she was going in front of the cops. Y/N was reading her sisters most private thoughts as quickly as she could. She knew that if she found something useful, the police would confiscate it as evidence. They too would know every detail of Chrissy's life, the good, the bad, and the embarrassing. Y/N just hoped Chrissy would forgive her, wherever she was. She was framing her sister's boyfriend for murder, but Y/N held on hope that it wouldn't get that far.
The Carver's had influence, and once the panic eventually died down they would probably find the best lawyer they could to free Jason. She didn't think claims of a satanic serial murder would hold up in court, at least not for him. Hawkins was crazy enough to believe Eddie would do such a thing, but not All Star American Good Ol' Boy Jason Carver. By then Y/N would have enough evidence to prove Eddie's innocence, and then the cases would go cold. It made her sad to think Vecna couldn't be punished in a court of law, that he would never serve jail time for his crimes. But hopefully he will be dead by the end of this, and Y/N will have comfort in the thought that Chrissy could finally rest in peace knowing her real killer is gone forever.
Throughout Y/N's search she found a few entries in the diary that could be helpful, with a good enough spin. There was one from September that mentioned Patrick.
September 8th, 1985
Dear Diary, School starts tomorrow, and normally I would be excited for the new year, but this time I'm not. Last night Annie threw a last weekend of summer party at her house. Jason picked me up as usual, and everything was going great until Andy suggested everyone play spin the bottle. I didn't want to do it, but Jason said it was just a silly game and that it didn't mean anything. During the first half of the game I had to watch Stephanie, Michelle, and Crystal all kiss my boyfriend on the mouth. I tried not to feel jealous, they all said it was just fun. It didn't feel like fun to me. None of the boys landed on me at first, and I didn't know if I should've felt relieved or upset about it. I don't want to kiss any boy other than Jason, but it hurt seeing it happen to him over and over again. I wanted to get even, and I had my chance when Patrick spun on me. Jason gave him such a dirty look, and Patrick told me I didn't have to if I didn't want to. That was nice of him, and even though I was jealous of other girls kissing Jason, I didn't want to upset my boyfriend. So I just kissed him on the cheek, it was a bit closer to his mouth than I would normally do, but I never made contact with his lips. After I sat back down, Jason pulled me up by the arm and dragged me into the kitchen. He threw an absolute fit! As if he wasn't doing worse! He said it was different for girls, that I was his and his alone. I told him it was just a kiss on the cheek, but Jason wouldn't listen. He never listens when he's angry. After that he left me at the party and drove home. Patrick gave me a ride himself, and said he would talk to him today. I just hope I don't have to start senior year without a boyfriend, I already know what prom dress I want to buy.
After Y/N read the entry she thought of different ways she could make it seem like Jason had it out for Patrick. It would be difficult, considering the fact that they were friends, but not impossible. A second entry from the beginning of March mentioned Fred.
March 4th, 1986
Dear Diary, I got interviewed by the school paper today! Fred wanted to do a piece on the cheerleading squad and I was picked! My picture is going to be in it and everything! I'm so excited to tell Y/N about it. Even Jason's sour mood can't bring me down. He was sooooo convinced Fred was going to say something bad about me, because according to him Fred only writes bad things about Jason, and because I'm his girlfriend that means he's gonna write bad things about me too. I just think he's paranoid. Jason can be a little narcissistic sometimes, thinks the world revolves around him. He said the world revolves around us, which is sweet I guess. I don't know, he's been stressed out about his last basketball season of High School and getting into Yale. So I won't hold it against him.
Those two entries were all Y/N had to defend her case. There were others that talked about fights her sister and Jason had, but the rest of the diary sang his praises. She was sad reading how Jason had treated her sister, and that she didn't realize how cruel he could be. Chrissy didn't deserve Jason's bullshit, but it was too late for her to say anything about it now.
Before she realized it Chief Powell was pulling into the driveway of the Wheeler house. She could see a half dozen cars parked there, her mother's car included. Y/N's heart started pounding, she didn't think her mother would bother to show up, but she was here, waiting for her. The thought gave her little comfort.
Chief Powell opened the back door of the car and let the two girls out. There was another police vehicle in the driveway, so Dustin and Lucas must already be inside. As they walked through the door, all Y/N could hear was yelling.
Max went to sit down next to the boys on the love seat, and Y/N slowly walked to stand beside them. She purposefully ignored her mother's frigid stare. When the Chief walked in everyone stopped speaking for a moment, waiting for him to speak first.
"Okay. The story I've heard tonight is something I, quite frankly, find hard to believe. If you would have asked me a month ago if I thought the Devil was in Hawkins, I'd tell you to check yourself into the loony bin. But now, I don't know what to believe. So right now we are going to get to the bottom of this. Starting with you three." Chief Powell said sternly. Before any of the kids could speak the parents in the room started shouting again.
"The Devil? What's this about the Devil?" Mrs. Sinclair yelled. Lucas sank deeper into his seat. That was her I-mean-business-voice, and he knew he was about to be in deep shit.
"Oh God, Dusty what is he talking about?" Mrs. Henderson asked her son, wiping stray tears off her face with a hanky.
"What on Earth?" Mrs. Wheeler gasped in shock.
"I knew it! I knew Satan himself was involved with this!" Mrs. Cunningham shouted, and Y/N held her head down. She tried to stop herself from shaking. She looked up for just a moment only to find her mother staring daggers at her.
"That's enough!" Chief Powell shouted, but Y/N ignored him. The officers started asking the kids questions, about what they were doing at Lovers Lake. She couldn't focus on them, she was frozen by her mother's icy eyes. They were locked on to her, like a missile about ready to strike. The rest of the parents were shouting again, but Mrs. Cunningham never said a word.
"Shut up!" Chief Powell shouted. Y/N looked over to him, the spell her mother had on her finally broken.
"We're gonna try a more civilized approach. One at a time. You first." Chief Powell said as he pointed at Max.
"Wait, what? Why me? I'm not even in Hellfire." Max protested.
"Follow me." Said Officer Callahan as he lead her upstairs.
"And you, stay right here." Chief Powell said pointing to Y/N. "You two go in the other room, I'll deal with you later."
Dustin and Lucas gave Y/N a pitied look, before they nodded and walked into the kitchen, Lucas' little sister trailing behind them. That left Y/N alone with Chief Powell and the rest of the parents. She moved to sit down on the love seat, when she barely made contact with the cushion her mother went in on her.
"You have a lot of explaining to do missy. First, you selfishly ruin your sister's funeral, embarrassed me and your father in front of everyone, and now this? What is wrong with you! I knew your father was wrong, he should have never bothered calling Notre Dame. You should have stayed away before you ruined absolutely everything!" Mrs. Cunningham shouted. They stopped and stared at her mother's harsh voice, the other mothers in the group turned back to look at Y/N with a sympathetic look on their faces.
"That's enough Mrs. Cunningham, it's my turn to ask the questions." Chief Powell said sternly. Her mother looked like she wanted to continue, but she knew not to embarrass herself in front of the police.
"Okay Miss. Cunningham, can you continue what you were saying earlier? About Jason Carver?" Chief Powell asked. Mrs. Cunningham whipped her head around to face the Chief, protest ready on her lips before he raised a hand at her to keep quiet.
"I believe it was Jason who made a deal with the Devil... I think he wanted revenge against Chrissy, Fred, and Patrick. Jason... he's not who you think he is. It sounds crazy, but I know he somehow made contact with Satan himself, and through whatever means he was able to use black magic to kill all three of them. My sister often singed his praises, but she always saw the good in people... She didn't see how wicked he was." Y/N replied. She tried to make her voice sound haunted, scared out of her wits. Chief Powell was about to ask her to elaborate before her mother cut him off.
"How dare you. How dare you point the finger at Jason. You have no idea what you're talking about." The words were laced with venom as Mrs. Cunningham said them.
“Mom, it was Jason. I know it was him.” Y/N pleaded, but her mother ignored her.
“Shut your mouth young lady. Jason is a good, sweet, God fearing young man. He loved your sister! He wouldn’t make a pact with the Devil, stop spreading these lies.” Mrs. Cunningham replied, sick of her daughter's antics.
“I’m not lying! She told me they fought a lot, and Jason was paranoid she was going to leave him! See here, I have Chrissy’s diary." Y/N grabbed the book she hid behind her and opened it up to show the pages she marked.
"They went to a party and played spin the bottle, she kissed Patrick on the cheek and Jason flipped out." Y/N flipped the book over to show her mother and Chief Powell. She turned the pages frantically to find the next entry she dog eared.
"And here, Chrissy wrote that she did an interview with Fred about the cheer squad, and she said Jason didn't like him because Fred always wrote about his failures in basketball. Jason is the only one who's connected to all of the victims! That’s the only explanation! Jason signed his name in the Devil’s black book!" Y/N shouted. All of the parents in the room looked at her in shock and horror, all except her mother, who looked at her as if she belonged on a stake ready to be set aflame.
“Are you sure about this young lady?” Chief Powell asked.
“Yes. Something is wrong with Hawkins, so horribly wrong. We all know it, but are too afraid to admit it. I don’t know how Jason made his evil pact, but it’s the only thing that makes sense." Y/N felt the tears fill her eyes, this time she didn't have to fake them.
"I saw how Chrissy died, she levitated from the ground. Her bones shattered in place, her eyes... oh God her eyes were ripped out from the inside. No man could do that. Jason is trying to pin this on Eddie, he knows what people in town think of him. It would be so easy… but he didn’t fool me. He won’t get away with this.” She held firm throughout her tale. Y/N prayed that it was enough to convince Chief Powell. His face was still a bit unreadable, but he looked less skeptical than he did at Lover's Lake.
“Alright then. If you wouldn’t mind going into the kitchen with the others Miss. Cunningham, I’d like a word with your mother.” Y/N nodded and slowly walked away, leaving her mother and Chief Powell to speak privately. When she walked into the kitchen Dustin, Lucas, and his sister were all standing in the hallway next to the stairs.
"So, what if, with each kill, he's not simply killing them, he's making a powerful psychic connection with his victims? A connection powerful enough to rip a hole in the fabric of time and space." Dustin whispered loudly. Y/N stopped right in her tracks, the group didn't notice her presence yet. A feeling of dread so intense it gripped her from the inside out. Vecna was far more powerful than she had feared.
"He's opening more gates." Lucas replied.
"Bingo." Dustin replied. They heard another officer walk by the hallway and slowly headed back to the kitchen, Y/N quietly trailed behind.
"Why would he be opening more gates?" Dustin asked.
"To take over the world." Lucas replied, and that idea made the dread inside of Y/N grow thicker with every passing moment.
"And who do we know who wants to take over the world?" Dustin asked.
"The Mind Flayer." Lucas whispered. It was like the two of them were having their own private conversation, oblivious to Y/N and Lucas' sister's presence.
"So if the Demogorgon was just his foot solider, Vecna is his five-star general. A five-star general with the power to open gates." Dustin whispered frantically.
"Holy shit." Lucas said has he put his hands behind his said.
"Holy shit." Dustin replied in turn.
"Holy shit. That was incomprehensible. You lost me at Mothergate. Please be kind. Rewind." Lucas' sister said with distain.
"I agree, I have no idea what any of that meant." Y/N said finally making her presence known.
Dustin groaned and went back to the beginning of his theory. He explained what he knew about the massive gate that was in Hawkins Lab, the first one they found when Will went missing. He further explained how that gate remained open for a year before their friend Eleven, the girl with superpowers Dustin had told her about days prior, had closed it. They thought the gate was closed forever, until the Russians tried to open a new one under Starcourt Mall. A part of The Mind Flayer had possessed Will, and from there possessed dozens of other people in Hawkins. After they defeated the corporeal Mind Flayer in the mall, Eleven lost her powers, and they thought everything was finally over. That was until Vecna appeared, with his ability to open gates wherever he killed his victims.
Y/N's mind was racing. She hated every word that came out of Dustin's mouth, each statement more horrifying than the next. How was she oblivious to everything? Living her happy-go-lucky life as if there wasn't a living hell that casted it's dark shadow over Hawkins. Dustin had only given the cliff notes version of the story before, this, this was way worse. Lucas' sister, Erica she now knew, had led them to the dining room of the Wheeler house, convinced someone could hear their conversation. They all sat down at the table as Dustin paced back and forth in front of it, rambling on about his theories on Vecna.
"So our working theory is that Vecna makes remote contact from his attic. We don't know why. We assume he can do it from anywhere." Dustin sat back down when he noticed Erica staring into space. Y/N followed her line of sight and noticed the light from the chandelier was flickering in a pattern.
"Are you even listening to me?" Dustin asked.
"Yea, I'm listening. It's just..." Erica said as she walked towards the light fixture in the ceiling. "You said you followed Vecna through lights, right?"
"Yeah, why?" Dustin replied.
"Because I think he's here." They all stood up from the table to see what Erica was talking about. Y/N didn't look away once as the light maintained its steady pattern. A bad feeling settled in Y/N's stomach, she feared that whatever it was that was causing the lights to flicker was up to no good.
"S... O... S..." Dustin whispered. "Hey, uh, remember when I said they wouldn’t be stupid enough to go through Watergate?”
“Yeah?” Lucas replied.
“I overestimated them.” Dustin said in a disappointed tone. Y/N walked over and stood in front of the kids, her arms crossed against her chest.
“How do you know it’s them? What if it’s Vecna or something else? What if they’re trying to trick us?” Y/N asked, she was skeptical that it was truly Eddie, Nancy, Robin, and Steve on the other side of that light.
“It’s Eddie. I know Steve, Robin, and Nancy don’t know Morse Code, but he knows S.O.S. Nancy knows about Will communicating through the lights when he went to the Upside Down, it has to be them.” Dustin replied.
“Eddie? Eddie if that’s you can you show me a sign? If it’s Vecna you can kindly go fuck yourself, I’m not in the mood for this.” Y/N turned to face the lights, her arms moving from her chest to her hips with a serious look on her face. If Vecna wanted her he could just stop wasting her time and do it already, she didn't want to play any silly game.
The pattern of the lights stopped for a moment, the light maintaining a consistent glow, before it started up again. This wasn't the same S.O.S Dustin pointed out earlier, it was something else. The light flickered once and held the glow before dimming, then it did it a second time, and a third in the same way. Then it started flickering again, a steady 1, 2, 3, 4 beat. Other lights on the chandelier started to flicker as well, all following a consistent beat. Y/N began tapping the rhythm on the chair in front of her, and just like that, muscle memory kicked it. It was the same motion she made when she tapped the steering wheel of her Buick, every time she listened to Eddie's mixtape. It was the beat to For Whom The Bell Tolls. She started to softly sing the lyrics of her favorite song, the one she told Eddie and only Eddie.
"Make his fight on the hill in the early day… constant chill deep inside… Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey. On they fight, for they’re right, yes, but who’s to say… Oh God Eddie baby you’re a genius!” Y/N cheered. She turned around to face the rest of the group, a massive smile on her face. Eddie was here, in a way, and he was alive.
“Hey! Meet us in Nancy’s room, I’ve got an idea!” Dustin yelled. Y/N followed the kids as they stole the Lite-Brite from Mike and Nancy's little sister and headed upstairs. She hoped that whatever Dustin was planning would work. Y/N hated the idea of Eddie staying in the Upside Down for a single minute longer.

"Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken" REVIEW
Tumblr media
So Ruby Guillman is up on HBO max now and wanted to give it a watch.
And since I never make goals for myself, I just decided that I'll make reviews about animated cartoons and movies. Since I'm an animator, I think I can bring something to the table, or idk.
(Gonna put the too long before the reading part cuz idk)
TL;DR DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THIS MOVIE. It's a... nice watch. A harmless movie, so to speak. Not THE greatest movie ever, but it's not bad either.
Firs of the pacing is a little bit rushed the whole movie.
We get expositioned by a narrator on what krakens are and that they are good sea creatures.
We see the family dynamic and are instanlty trhown into town, where they tell us that, the Gillman family, don't even wear disguises and opting instead to just say to people that they're canadian as to explain why they look like they do.
Then, the high school is even more exposition because prom is in a couple of days. Ruby wants to ask the boy she likes to go, but her mom doesn't allow her to go to prom because it will be in a boat, and she can NOT go into the water on any circumstance.
We get told more than shown throughout the whole ordeal.
Ruby falls into the water at some point, like 15 minutes in. She turns giant and starts to freak out and accidentally destroys the library. Meanwhile, the new girl in the school makes herself known, and everyone loves her. And she does the Metroman thing of "And I love you random citizen!".
Ruby's mom sees her and goes to her to calm her down, and in the way, her brother, Ruby's uncle, shows up saying that their mom, Ruby's grandma, sent him because she wants to see Ruby.
Then Ruby gets in a fight with her mom because she never told her anything about them becoming giant krakens. She gets mad and follows her uncle into sea and they both go to meet Ruby's grandma.
Again, we are told that krakens aren't as bad as humans made them to be and that mermaids are the real villians. That could've been better shown as a flashback. The war between krakens and mermaids. And shown us why Ruby's mom left the kingdom, in my opinion.
Oh, yeah. Ruby's grandma is the queen of the kraken kingdom, making Ruby a princess and heir of the throne.
In the kingdom, Ruby gets overstimulated with everything hitting her at once, which she can't process, and with her grandma saying that she will take her place and responsibilities, as queen.
It all gets too much for her. She starts hiperventilating and says, "I think... I'm gonna have a panic attack!". That made me pause the movie for a bit.
I don't like comparing, I don't think it's fair sometimes, to compare every new movie/cartoon with other ones but since they're from the same studio that already showed us they can do better, I will compare them: Puss in boots the last wish did an amazing job in showing a panic attack, I've never had one but a dear friend of mine had so I have some frame of reference of that.
I don't think the scene with Puss can be easily topped, but come on, they could've done better for Ruby. They showed us they can.
Back with the movie, grandma tells Ruby that her mom defeated the mermaids and hid the trident of Oceanus (the only weapon that can hurt krakens) somewhere and never told anyone excactly where it was before leaving the kingdom and making her family on land.
After Ruby tells grandma she doesn't want her "normal human life" to change, she goes back on land but gets trapped by a captain obsessed with krakens on the way. That's when the new girl shows up, and it gets revealed that she's a mermaid (omg shocker).
The mermaid, Chelsea, tells Ruby they should be friends because they both are sea creatures trying to blend in with humans.
At one point, Chelsea get sad that they can't be seeing together because of the fight between krakens and mermaids. She tells Ruby that the only way to make peace between their families is to find the trident and use it as a "symbol of peace."
But only a kraken can get the trident, so Ruby goes back to grandma and asks her to show her how to use all her powers.
We get a little training montage.
After tons of tries, Ruby can't see to be able to get to the trident, so she goes to ask her mom how she hid it. Tells her about her mermaid friend, who is the daughter of the mermaid queen, which sets her mom off. They get into another fight, and Ruby leaves and goes back to try and get the trident.
She finally succeeds, and Chelsea rips the trident off her hands and reveals that she is, in fact, the mermaid queen, Nerissa (which, kinda odvious but whatever) Tells Ruby that she was just using her to get revenge on her mom and yadda yadda.
She burries Ruby under a bunch of rocks and goes to land to look for Ruby's mom.
Meanwhile, everyone in Ruby's school is on the prom boat when Nerissa emerges from the sea and calls out Ruby's mom.
Ruby and grandma show up to help out, and I gotta say the final fight was wack. Gonna compare movies again, I mean, it's the same studio that made Kung Fu Panda and that beautiful fight scene in Puss in Boots the last wish. They could've made the fight underwater, giant sea creatures, out of water, with gravity on them don't mash well because they move so slow.
Anyway, they defeat the mermaid, the captain captures her in a cage, and Ruby goes to prom where the guy she likes was waiting for her.
In the end, she doesn't need to hide what she is anymore because everyone in town accepts her for who she is.
🪸🪸🪸🪸🪸🪸🪸🪸🪸🪸🪸🪸🪸
Woo-boy! So that was something!
I think, overall, it is a very nice movie. It's not a cinematic master piece but I don't think it needs to be.
It's nice to have a kinda chill movie between all these. "I wanna be the most groundbreaking-action packed movie ever."
Does it have things that could have been improved? Yes.
Does it need to be this epic coming-of-age fantastical movie that plays with your heartstrings? Not really.
Though I feel like we could've spent more time with Ruby's friends. They were trhown in not really wanting to have dates for prom, and then saying they changed their minds and actually wanna go to prom with dates then they disappeared until is prom night.
Ruby's bff says she asked the girl she likes to go as her date, which is great! But we don't see them together until the last few minutes of the prom, though. Anyway, I feel like the friends could've been more present in the movie. idk.
Character-design-whise I like the look of the krakens, specifically Ruby's family (and because we don't really see the other krakens in the kingdom)
The mermaid's monster design also looked cool. Love the water hair they gave her.
There were some background characters that were kind of... hard to look at, that may be just me, though.
There were some line deliveries from Ruby and "Chelsea" tha could've been better, maybe should've done retakes (or maybe, just maybe, hire professional voice actors to voice in your animated movies, it's not like do that for a living or anything)
Sorry for being all over the place. This is my first time doing and typing a review for people outside of my friends.
If anyone wants me to expand on something else or wants me to word my paragraphs betterlet me know!
I'm gonna need feedback on this.
I should start a list of the things I have to make reviews of.
I am open for requests!*
If anyone is still reading this, THANK YOU for your time!

Thoughts on the new trailer
Just want to cover some interesting things I saw in the trailer. Sorry, no Pinky and the Brain stuff. I like them, but you all know I'm interested in the Warners first and foremost. I'm sure a lot of this stuff has already been covered in leaks, making my speculation look silly to those that have seen them, but I haven't seen them and will not be mentioning them for the rest of the post. If you have seen the leaks, please don't say anything about them when interacting with this post. I've already heard more than I wanted to.
Tumblr media
He calls them kids!
Tumblr media
The strange trend continues.
Tumblr media
An episode about them being locked in and escaping the tower!! I don't know if I can handle it. It looks like Nora was demoted from CEO and has now taken Ralph's place as guard, which seems to have led to security actually becoming competent and successfully being able to contain the Warners. All their fun furniture and stuff has been taken as well, so it looks like a real prison. Look at the scratch marks on the walls 🥺
Tumblr media
I already made a post about this. One other idea I've had since is that the Teeniacs are like another set of Warners altogether, basically teenaged versions of the Warners who show up and befriend the regular Warners.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Looks like a football episode where the Warners are players and Ralph is the coach. Could be fun.
Tumblr media
Looks like they're focusing a lot on the Warners being pursued and trying to escape this season. Ralph goes back to being the guard at some point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Over one frame, Wakko just kind of dematerializes into streaks followed by Yakko looking at him, concerned. I know it's most likely an animation thing meant to show him zooming off to the side, but if you go to the trailer and watch it frame-by-frame, it's weird. It also happens while the Warners are talking like they're in danger, saying they still have more episodes to star in. Something I'll be keeping my eye on.
Tumblr media
This is either from "The Island of Dr. Warnereau" or "Planet Warner". I would guess the former. The Island of Doctor Moreau is a book about a mad scientist experimenting with creating human-animal hybrid creatures. Maybe this episode could cover more about the origins of the Warners or what exact species they're made of? Also, have you noticed the reboot has a weird obsession with bats? The screenshot with Coach Ralph above also has them, as well as that double date in season 1. Dot appears to be a bat in this screenshot. Wakko is a dog, which makes sense, and I have no idea what Yakko's supposed to be. He has both long fangs and weird antenna things? Looks like an alien more than anything.
Tumblr media
Credit to Jenny Butler for pointing this out on Twitter. This person has Dot's flower, hairline, and skirt. It could be a human version of her, but I kind of never thought the show would ever do an official humanized version of the Warners, since that would unnecessarily give them a canon race. This could be Teeniacs- Dot as a real, human teen. If the Warners become teen influencers, it could also just be a random teen girl/popstar who has adopted Dot's fashion style.
Update: See here
Tumblr media
And then there's this... thing. This is probably from "The Island of Dr. Warnereau" as well. Either that, or an intro gag.
Finally, I want to talk briefly about the interesting portion of the press release.
"the Warner siblings must battle their way out of a video game"
Probably referring to "Ready Warner One." Could match the screenshots of goth Dot fighting vampires or something.
"learn the secrets of being a teen influencer"
Probably, but not necessarily, referring to "Teeniacs." See my other post on "Teeniacs" for more of my thoughts on this (the one linked above).
"and escape a mad scientist's island"
Definitely "The Island of Dr. Warnereau." Does make you wonder who the mad scientist is. I would say either The Brain or Scratchansniff.
"all while finding time to teach us about the threat of global warming!"
No idea. Could be "Planet Warner."
There was no mention of Slappy in the press release or the trailer. I feel like, if she was in this season, they would reveal her in promotional materials to build hype. I could be wrong, but I'm still skeptical at this point that the return is actually happening, or that it's anything other than a fairly short cameo.

hey! just wanted to inject some nuance into the dwd conversation (sorry for the length but... oof people talking about this make me frustrated). right off the bat - i totally agree that a lot of people are way out of line with the response to dwd and to olivia wilde in particular, like that one twt account ppl mentioned in the tags (just vile). but i think that there's layers of context here where there are legitimate reasons for people to be upset, they just are... high jumping over any kind of nuance or reasoned discussion and right to weinstein rape apologist language.
it was definitely decided that the promo for this movie was going to play up harry styles' sex appeal and draw attention that way. i mean, the first trailer included an oral sex scene. there was a deliberate decision made to include that, knowing that it would get attention. now, we don't know if that decision was olivia wilde's, or a studio marketing department's, or (most likely) some combination of both, but it did occur! it's not just the fans making it all about the sex. from what i've heard from those who've seen early screenings, there isn't actually a lot of sex in the movie outside of what's in the trailers, because the sex isn't the focus of the movie itself. so, again, this is how they chose to market it, and it did get attention for that.
i think olivia wilde herself, as the main person promoting and speaking about the movie so far (in interviews, etc) has gone along with that marketing strategy. the full context from the vogue story of the sex quote is that first, in the preceding paragraph, olivia is the one to bring up sex in movies.
“The 1950s get this rap as a very controlled, conservative era, when in fact it was incredibly debaucherous. My grandparents on my mother’s side loved to party,” Wilde says. One of Wilde’s aesthetic reference points for her film was Poolside Gossip, Slim Aarons’s photo of coiffed women in caftans chatting over cocktails in a Palm Springs backyard whose manicured perfection can’t help but imply some Lynchian rot lurking beneath; another was the thrillers of Adrian Lyne, like Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal. Those movies are “really sexy, in a grown-up way,” Wilde tells me. “I kept saying, ‘Why isn’t there any good sex in film anymore?’ ”
then in the next paragraph, they ask about that scene in particular, and you get the "though she readily volunteers that she intends for her audience to 'realize how rarely they see female hunger, and specifically this type of female pleasure.' " quote.
again, the sex isn't the focus of the movie and we don't hear anything about how the sex relates to the themes of the movie (other than aesthetically). they could choose not to talk about it. but this is the promo strategy they went with, and it obviously has worked at drawing attention. on a more personal to olivia note, a lot of people took issue with her sharing an instagram post from an account called the clit.test about good sex in media approving of dwd (again, focused on that scene in the trailer).
moving on with more nuance - the non-con of it all. again, a lot of the response has been 'how dare this movie depict non-consensual sex' which is... not the most productive way to engage with art. BUT i do think it's valid that people are feeling some ick about having watched the trailer, having absorbed the messaging of the headlines around the film, having felt one particular way about the sex in it, and then learned that it's non-consensual. i don't blame them for feeling uncomfortable. for example, the clit.test actually took back their instagram post when they learned about it (also apparently after a healthy dose of harassment from all sides, so... great job guys). this is also where the way the larger themes of the movie have been framed gets (for lack of a better word) problematic, and is more directly tied to olivia.
again, full quote for context, but this is how olivia teed up the themes of the movie (and they've stayed consistent) at cinemacon, with the first trailer drop:
“I want you to imagine a life where you have everything you could want,” she told the crowd of theater owners. “Not just material, tangible things… like a beautiful house, perfect weather and gorgeous cars. But also the things that really matter, like true love or the perfect partner or real trusted friendships and a purpose that feels meaningful. What would it take for you to give up that life, that perfect life. What are you really willing to sacrifice to do what’s right?” Wilde asked. “Are you willing to dismantle the system that’s designed to serve you?”
this framing - implying pretty heavily that florence pugh's character has "true love" or "the perfect partner", or that her situation is a "system that's designed to serve [her]" when her consent to the sex they're having is dubious at best, because of her lack of awareness and agency in the overall context is... it's just a yikes.
so - just trying to give context, that while most of the backlash against the movie has been over the top, misogynist, and bullying - there are some actual potential issues with it, and i wish people talked more reasonably about it instead of just going with "boo olivia wilde evil boo".
Oh anon. I know I'm not really one to talk - but that's a lot of words. And all it suggests to me is that you don't know what nuance means.
I disagree with your central premise and also think this ask is steeped in media illiteracy, hypocrisy and a terrifying view of consent.
I can't tell if your argument is that it's wrong to try and make sex scenes sexy, with this premise (I'll try and avoid spoilers). Or if your argument is that it's wrong to include sex scenes in the marketing campaign or a movie with this premise. I don't think either argument is sustainable - and are incredibly limited and controlling attitude towards art. (The same thing is shown with your bizarre reading of Olivia Wilde's quote, which suggests you have completely missed the point she's made).
A few more points:
Profile writers don't always replicate the order conversations happened in their profile - so 'this paragraph came first' is not evidence that it happened first in the conversation.
We do know who makes the decisions when it comes to how movies are marketed: marketing departments. The fact that you don't speaks to your lack of interest in the subject, not that it's mysteriously unknowable.
The premise of this movie makes large elements of it non-consensual. (I cannot believe that anyone who is trying to take the moral high ground would call something that is clearly non-consenting dubious consent).
Harry has talked about doing sex scenes in this movie. Harry has used sex to promote his art. Harry has made art where sex is one of the key themes. He's made unclear references to lack of consent in his art. The hypocrisy of fandom is really clear.

Your reblog reminded me of the time years ago (2018? 2019?) when I saw someone on twitter say that lancelot/vane was queerbait and I just stared at my screen like that tails meme because I couldn't believe what I was reading
Oh my goddddd
Tumblr media
i'm so tired i swear i'm so tired of those things oh my god. oh my gooooood.
I've seen legit Queerbaitings, like, the ones that are from Markettings to the audience fooling us into watching straight shit. It's its own very nasty thing that is different from ship tease and i wish people would understand that.
I especially hate when this framing is attributed to mobage of the type of granblue because it's usually down to the DNA of the game that they're doing that. They usually can't exactly confirm stuff (unless they have to make a big story around it) because they use it also to "tease" self insert shipping with those characters.
They're trying to appeal to demographic that cares about shipping other characters together AND those who ship themselves with the characters in question.
As such i find it especially to be a bad faith critic to call it queerbaiting. Whenever you find this approach tasteful or not, it's mostly a brand of fanservice, but you're expected to know it when you interreact with it.
Queerbaiting is the cast and crew and marketting looking at you directly telling you "don't worry we'll totally give you rep those two chara especially are totally going to be rep for you" and then it never happens. like i'm thinking about the trailer for Riverdale that showed a lesbian kiss without context, so you would be intrigued, and then you watch the episode and you learn they only kissed to try to shock the audience in a staged show, and the person they did it in front of literally calls them out about how "girls kissing isn't as shocking anymore you know". and then the two girls involved in the kiss move on to flirt with guys they end up dating the rest of the show instead. Like. That's textbook Queerbaiting. It doesn't matter that this show has rep, it doesn't matter if ship are teased left and right, it doesn't even matter that they kissed for shock in the episode itself, what matters is that the promo was saying "hey, there's rep for you <3" and then you watch and you realize it's a lie.
There's a subtle line sometimes with just, implied romantic connection toward the show that is then never resolved, which imo, can count or can not count, depends really on context, but even there it gets more blurry (and it also is good to take into account that queerbaiting =/= queercoding from a place where they're not allowed by the studios to go this direction).
but for Mobage i'm really uninterested with any discussion of queerbaiting since imo it feels like people are genuinely refusing to engage with the fact the game is requesting you to interreact differently with its characters than you would watching a TV show. Not all media consumtions come to the same effort.
But also i should mention that the context of the post i reblogged is that people are now using "queerbaiting" to refer to real life people and that's genuinely horrifying, above any fandom petty discussion on it.
This post refers to the fact that the lead actor of Heartstopper, a TV show focusing a gay couple between two teens, was forcefully outed on twitter after people harrassed him for "queerbaiting" everyone by "pretending to be gay on TV while he's likely straight irl" and therefore he's.... baiting people by acting??? somehow???
Even if he was straight this attitude would be unacceptable, but what resulted was that this 19yo was so exhausted by the harassments and bullying he had to come out on twitter.
No real people owe you a coming out. No real people are queerbaiting you. Queerbaiting is a specific media framework you cannot use on people. Real life people don't gain anything by pretending to be queer. People involved in this harassments campaign better be ashamed of their behavior because this is vile.
And in general i'm really annoyed with how specific media analysis/critic framework are being used as means to specifically interreact with real life people while removed from the media analysis context. People are doing the same with Death of the Author which is annoying me to no end but that's another can of worm.
But the Queerbaiting thing is genuinely hurting people and i'm genuinely so angry at those people.
so, yeah, i say it again: i am begging people to learn what words mean. You're just diluting what useful expression mean and make them lose their impact and it is becoming exhausting.

Seeing a post like this really frustrates me a lot. The whole thing really comes off as "how dare this movie not use this character as much as I wanted and was expecting them too, such a terrible movie!"
It's not like I don't agree that Battletrap was under utilized in Rise of the Beasts, but I can't say I sympathize with the op here. I don't really get how seeing the trailers for the movie and maybe reading/watching interviews with the cast would lead someone to build up these kinds of expectations about a character within the movie. Plus, Nightbird and several of the other Autobots outside of Optimus Prime and Mirage were just as under utilized as Battletrap yet, they are only disappointed about this one character specifically??
I honestly would say that the op did this to themselves. They let their expectations get so high that they only way to go from there was downward and they left themselves open to being disappointed because they went into a movie with certain very high expectations and I just don't get that. I like movie trailers as much as the next person but I always taper my expectations so that I don't leave myself open to the possibility of being disappointed in something I expected to happen even though there was not enough of a frame of reference for those expectations to be built upon.

KinnPorsche Ep01 Lines of Power
I had so much fun breaking down the use of lines of power, framing, and space in the KinnPorsche Official Trailer (original post here), so I figured why not keep going?
More LoP: [Trailer] [Ep02]
Tumblr media
Credit to @moerusai for the spot on the lines here. (We were watching together.) If you look at the angle of the shot, especially the top of the window, you'll see it's tilted to the right, and even the coloring is all darker to the right, splitting the view. This gives our lovely (sarcastic) Italian fellow extra weight and power, because he's weighing down the right side. This speaks to his seniority and experience, which are greater than Kinn's.
However -- and this is where I diverge from Mo's spot -- Kinn is keeping a LOT of his power by remaining standing for so long. In this whole scene, the Don never rises, but we see Kinn standing over him twice, both at the beginning and the end.
I'll refer to the staging here again later on....
I realize there's also a LOT going on with the mirrors in this scene, so much that I'm going to leave that for someone more expert than I am to break down.
Tumblr media
Gooooorgeous! No, really, I just want to sit here and admire it. The darker tile lines are emphasizing the line of Kinn's arm, giving it focus and making it look so dynamic, making him seem big even though he's relatively small in the shot. The screen is also beautifully divided into thirds just by where Kinn's torso and gun are placed.
Looks like something from a graphic novel. KP comic now, please, kthx!
Tumblr media
Not so much about the lines here, but the staging. The staging! The use of foreground (Porsche), midground (Kinn), and background (Yok) is so, so nice. This whole episode puts Porsche into central focus. Kinn is influential and very interesting, but the emotional journey in ep 1 is entirely Porsche's, and I feel like this shot and entire scene really capture the essence of that. Yok is here representing all the people Porsche doesn't want to get hurt... and Kinn's right there with eyes locked on her.
The way Porsche and Kinn have their backs to each other here, too, even though they're focused on each other... hello, tension, my old friend.
Tumblr media
Porsche says, "If I don't have a line of power, I will make my own damn line of power." He asserts his right to own the space with that leg in the air, both taking up more screen real estate and keeping his attackers at bay (for the time being).
You know how some animals puff themselves up to look bigger when attacked? That's 100% Porsche.
Contrast this with the early scene of the Italian mafia Don where Kinn is standing over him. The Don had the weight of the scene, but not necessarily the power. Here, Kinn may be standing over Porsche, but Porsche isn't giving an inch, will take ALL the space and power he can.
Tumblr media
Wow. *chin hands* Porsche looking smol.
Love the way the building behind Kinn's head just makes him seem even bigger and more threatening, enhancing his size and making Porsche seem even smaller.
Meanwhile, Porsche is at the end of a slippery slope, with lines in perspective pointing to just empty space and nothingness behind him, into which he's about to fall (or jump) right off.
Tumblr media
The emotions in this scene... I felt all the feels there were to feel.
And now we have Porsche at a crossroads, with one foot in the light on the left and another foot in the dark on the right. The lines of the fluorescent light and beam above emphasize the divide between the two worlds. Which way will he go? (Don't head toward the light!)
Tumblr media
FRAMING! The two sides of the door frame this scene, but there's something so claustrophobic about it. It's tight. They're hemmed in, crowded.
Porsche and Porschay are trapped by their circumstances. D: (Someone save these precious babies!)
Tumblr media
This scene broke my heart, the way Porsche moved slowly and dejectedly, going where he least wanted to go.
Here we see him framed neatly and cleanly, made small by the camera and all the narrow vertical lines that are so much taller than he is. He looks utterly lost and out of place.
Tumblr media
Kinn, you smarmy son of a gun, you just have to take all the focus, don't you?
He may be small because he's in the background, but with the way that the window lines point to him, both horizontally and vertically, and the way everyone gazes at him, he just dominates this shot.
Tumblr media
Again I have to credit @moerusai for pointing out that first shot to me with the tilt. Then I looked really closely at this scene, and it's FASCINATING. Can't capture it in just one pic.
Stick with me.
First shot, Kinn has all the weight -- the railing tilts everything toward him on the right. While watching the show, we also know that Porsche is just out of frame on the left, without any weight/power at all.
Second shot, we have Papa Korn in the center of that weight/power imbalance between Porsche and Kinn as he meets Porsche for the first time.
Then we go through that power dynamic exchange where Porsche says he wants to be in charge of Ken and Big... and Papa Korn says yes, effectively tipping power right into Porsche's hands, and in that third shot the railing is mostly evened up, or even a little bit tilted toward Porsche.
Mind blown.

trevor philips headcanons
trevor philips x fem!reader headcanons
(might make this into a full on fic with multiple parts? im sorry its so detailed lol i got carried away, i love trevor)
a lil backstory; it was always you, michael and trevor against the world. committing crimes, losing police and doing crazy heists, all the money you could ever want.
you were the youngest of the three, only just being twenty when you were all together, living this extreme lifestyle.
but that last heist where you lost michael [or so u think ;)] whilst you were bleeding out to death made you realise it wasn’t worth it anymore. you managed to make a great escape with trevor.
trevor had to be the one to look after you, which he did and the two of you tried to move past everything. at least you had each other to help grieve michael.
fast forward to now
you live next door to trevor in your own trailer (of course yours is actually nice and homey and comfortable and clean) and you work part time in the liquor store down the road so you have an actual reliable income
its just you, trevor, wade and ron sorta against the world (mostly you and trevor)
that man is hella protective of you; he will kill literally anything that hurts you in the slightest
you argue sometimes because trevor doesn't think before he speaks and accidentally says stupid dumb stuff that hurts you and then is like ????? why u upset woman
and trevor never really says sorry (unless sarcastically) so he just waits for you to talk to him again or go up to your trailer and keep bothering you and yelling till you tell him to stop
he calls you pet names a lot
he likes to call you sugar tits cause he knows it annoys you :)
will often refer to you as ‘my girl’
“there's my favourite girl”
“be a good girl for me y/n-”
in your bedroom, just above your bed you have a couple photos of you and michael, you and trevor and one with all three of you from, all from your younger days
and a couple other little things like torn pieces of paper with writing on it from trevor (i mean it's a smiley face but it still counts) or a very old one from michael from years ago
a few months back you had a framed picture of you, trevor and michael which brad had taken years ago and it sat on your counter by your kitchen
and trevor, ron and wade were at your trailer all drunk and high (them not you)
and trevor was drunk and angry about something you couldn't remember and then he saw the photo on the side in a fit of drunken rage he shoved everything on the floor with a loud smash and loud groan and walked out the trailer
tears welled your vision and wade and ron watched as you slowly walked to the smashed photo in between all the other broken things scattered on the floor and sat on your knees
“I-i-i sure he d-didn mean it y/n!” you remember ron said to you and you didn't respond so the two guys took it as a cue to leave.
that was the longest you ever went without speaking to trevor, almost 2 weeks.
one morning you found a tacky gift bag outside your door and inside was a photo frame, obviously from the store down the road but it made you smile slightly, you knew who it was from.
trevor also has another nickname for you, ‘beautiful’ he uses it playfully, in conversation, sort of wherever
It would be a lie if i said that trevor and you have never kissed. because you have a lot, you still do sometimes (mostly when drinking).
oh and you and trevor has slept together, more than once. maybe a few times a month, once a week - who knows??????
trevor still gets a little jealous whenever you mention michael cause there was a time where you and michael slept together and michael obviously had a thing for you but he’s dead and has been for a long time but its just trevor y’know. man can hold a grudge.
your relationship dynamic is confusing because you don't see each other as going out but you're obviously in love with one another but you’ve just never have had that conversation and you probably won't.
as much of an asshole he is, he’s your best friend and you wouldn't have anyone without him.

Unnecessarily Long S3 Trailer Analysis
Read more cause of spoilers
General thoughts:
APOCALYPSE NUMBER 3, HERE WE GO!!!
Honestly think that every season is going to be about stopping the apocalypse, and you know what? I'm fine with that.
PERFECT song for the trailer, 10/10
I love how they are referring to the Umbrellas and Sparrows as siblings straight out of the gate, let them be a big happy family!!
The Sparrows seem less intense in the trailer than they have been in the rest of the promotional material. Like, we see them grooving, we see Marcus going to a diner with Viktor, we see them getting beat by the Umbrellas multiple times. I like it. Seeing them as actual people and not invincible, emotionless superheroes drives home how Reginald fucked up yet another group of literal children.
Klaus, ending up in an alternate timeline that is going to be destroyed in less than a week: It's a tits-out kind of look.
Seriously, I don't think he has a single outfit with a closed, full-length shirt, and you know what? Valid.
I wasn't sure whether Fei's power was turning into birds or controlling them, this trailer confirms it's the latter
Looks like Lila joins up with them early on. GOOD. SHE'S A PART OF THE FAMILY NOW.
The dickhead moment...iconic. Peak sibling energy. I love them so much.
Various things that caught my eye:
Tumblr media
Younger!Reginald, this might be a scene about when he first came to earth and it'll explain their origins a little bit
Tumblr media
FIVE'S FUCKING FISHING OUTFIT. Amazing. Five toasting their untimely demise. Amazing. Klaus's outfit. Amazing. Dear God I want to have brunch with the two of them.
Tumblr media
Blood bag that gets blown up by the kugelblitz. I'm guessing someone gets severely hurt and ends up in the hospital. Honestly could see it being an Umbrella or a Sparrow. I've seen a few people theorizing that one of the Sparrows will die, idk if I agree but I can definitely see one of them almost dying. Maybe one of the episodes will end in a cliffhanger where it looks like someone's going to die, but then they don't, like with Allison in S1.
Tumblr media
Had to zoom in so this pic is pretty blurry, but that person is definitely wearing a hat. So this is Klaus getting attacked by Ben during their first encounter. Fun.
Tumblr media
Five being the one to punch Ben in the face...he'd do anything for his siblings, including hurt another sibling.
Tumblr media
Love Fei just chilling, watching Luther getting the shit beat out of him. Icon. It looks like Marcus's power is literally the exact same as Luther's, since I don't think he'd be able to punch Luther out if he didn't have super strength too. Maybe it'll turn out there's another aspect to it, but for now it seems like they're the same. Imagine having the most generic superpower out of all of your siblings and being like "well at least I'm the only one with the power" and then finding out that someone else has your incredibly basic power too. I'd be so pissed. F in the chat for Luther.
Tumblr media
Pretty sure this is the basement that Marcus was in from that one still. Was the thing he looking at this weird-ass ball? Also, is that a framed picture of Marcus in the bottom left corner? Is this basement his playroom or something??? He just goes down there to hang out and ends up encountering a fucking Gastly-looking ball of electricity?? Okay.
Tumblr media
What the dog doing? Oh, right, dissolving into a pile of ash. Okay. Also apparently being a concierge or something at the Hotel Oblivion.
(I fucking swear, if they bring in Mr. Pennycrumb to just kill him off, I will be so pissed.)
Tumblr media
DIEGO AND LILA FIGHTING BACK TO BACK HELL YES A WIN FOR THE BISEXUALS!!! THEY'VE LITERALLY GOT EACH OTHER'S BACK!!!! LET THEM KICK SOMEONE'S ASS TOGETHER!!!
Tumblr media
MARCUS'S FACE LMAOOO. Luther makes some of the best faces out of all of them, I'm glad to see Number 1 in this timeline is the same way.
Also, absolute king shit from Viktor. The growth.
Viktor in S1: *Apologizes for breathing*
Viktor in S3: Fuck you, you wish you were me.
More pics in reblog...lots more...

Stop acting like your boy is innocent.
There is a 1864 flashback in 2x15 where Stefan is feeding on several women (three or four) in lingerie (people in 1864 don't wear modern underwear like bras, what they were wearing was lingerie at the time, it was highly indecent to be dressed like this in the 19h century, especially around a man), it's implied he compelled them to undress and to be okay with him feeding on them and taking pleasure in it because they were really happy about it. There's even one of them lying on the sofa. We can understand what Damon and Katherine did based on context (this situation is similar to Damon and Andi or Isobel and her assistants, this is a pattern in TVD, vampires with human people in underwear are all implied to be their rapist), so can we for Stefan. Ironically it's newbie vampire Damon who compelled these women to leave, and Stefan was aware of what he was doing, because when Damon said it was too much and he was going to leave Stefan begged him to stay. I also remembered that when Damon arrived, Stefan threw a woman at him and she caressed him. Women don't need to be in lingerie for a vampire to feed on them (ex :1912 flashback in 3x16, the women were not in lingerie), there is an intended message. When Stefan explained it to Elena, she told him "sounds like you were Damon", and Stefan said "I was worse than Damon. »
Case 2 : the women in the 1920s : There is a dodgy line in his diary in S3 which mentions his days in the 1920s when he says he wakes up in strangers’ blood with women he doesn't recognize. The mention of "women" isn't innocent, because it's canon that rippers don't feed only on women, we have seen Stefan feed on little kids too. The show also made it a point that he chose to have an apartment in Chicago next to an all-girls high school, which shut down for attendance issues, I think you can guess why...
I'd like to add that absolutely no one really took accountability in the show, every rape case was swept under the rug :
This is the last post I’m making about this.
Stefan without humanity is sadistic and he’s a murderer I’ve been very upfront with that, he toys with people - including women - before killing them but there is a separation between TVD being like, what would look sexy and erotic and disturbing onscreen
Tumblr media
a la
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(trying to go for this kinda thing which was an endorsement someone did for the Dracula trailer: The vegetarian vampire is dead, long live his non-sparkling counterpart! Yes, let our vampire stories have some bite. Let us get back some of that danger, some of that seduction of evil, and dare I say it? Let us have blood. Rivers of Hammer Horror technicolor blood. Blood, blood, everywhere, and all the drops to drink.)
and what Stefan as a character does, especially considering that Julie was going for a certain aesthetic:
“There was a sensuality and a seduction to the vampire genre that now, [nearly] 10 years later, isn’t necessarily as sexy, right?” she says, alluding to the fact that vampires can be compelling or glamorous to humans (depending on whether you’re watching TVD or True Blood) and have overpowering strength and speed.
Stefan gorges on blood, the woman on the couch is dead.
Tumblr media
Her being in lingerie is for aesthetic, when he goes to his next victim, he bites her immediately, because even if he is playing games, Stefan’s desire is always about this:
Tumblr media
like the twister game, it’s about feeding
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so him choosing to stay across the street from an all girls school means that he played the same type of games or that he has preferences
Tumblr media
but even in this, it’s about the feed although it’s made to look like it could be a makeout until closer examination:
Tumblr media
The show in general did have a tendency to skew towards female victims when they wanted to illicit a certain image of disturbing eroticism:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
whereas male victims were always rage or functional:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(which isn’t to say female victims were always used to illicit eroticism). The diary entry is easy to split hairs about
Tumblr media
Stefan is the one who doesn’t recognize the women he’s with, there’s nothing to suggest that anything was coerced, particularly since in the same entry, he refers to Rebekah as a ‘woman’ so who’s to say that they aren’t other vampires he doesn’t recognize
There’s also the way it was written, which can suggest that each sentence is a different occurrence i.e. there were days he woke up in strangers’ bloods[period] in places he doesn’t recognize [period] with women he doesn’t remember [period].
This really just depends on how you want to interpret it.
I do agree that the show in general did have a problem with rape culture, which JP admitted:
“And you could look at it back through the lens of say the #MeToo movement and object to what may be a little bit of a glorification of a rape culture, but what we were working with at the time was a gothic romance with a fine line — a very fine line — separating it,” she says with a laugh. “And I used to get in arguments about it being a gothic romance and not wanting to censor the sexuality of the characters, even if it felt a little questionable at times, like specifically Damon and Caroline in the first couple of episodes [when he used her as a plaything and drank from her against her will]. Because that’s what vampires represented, and that’s what vampires were. And the culture has just shifted enough that you’d have to think twice before you dove in that boldly now, I think.”
But in this context, the issue with Stefan would then be the framing of his murders and how they were made to look erotic and not Stefan as a character being a rapist.
Not to mention, considering that at the time, JP doubled down on what Damon and Katherine did, if there was “sex” involved with Stefan’s feeding then we would just get a scene like this
Tumblr media
or this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
or even this
Tumblr media
There would be no reason not to.
Anyway, I’ve written about this more than I care to at this point, so.

The Promised Neverland S2 EP1 Review
The anime is well up to six episodes by the time I am writing this, but I finally put time aside to devour the second season of The Promised Neverland. As much as my time permits, I want to write analysis posts for each episode!
Before we start, here is a reminder that I read all of the TPN manga, so I may compare some scenes, which may be spoilery for anime-onlys. Also, I heard that the anime skipped Goldi Pond arc, dismissing some of our favorite characters like Yuugo, and bringing Norman up significantly early compared to the built-up in the manga. However, as much as I’m disappointed that we will not see Yuugo animated, I’m going to start this season without holding any prejudice. In fact, I think it’s nice to see that anime is taking a different path, both because I can now enjoy something new and maybe even get surprised, and it may open doors for a remake in future, which calls for more TPN content!
Anyway, let's get to the point!
Tumblr media
I love this opening. It gives flashbacks to the TPN trailer, but it highlights the word “cruel” a lot more when there is a demon following them from behind, rather than the trailer where they were looking at a beautiful sunrise.
Tumblr media
This screenshot is called Nostalgia and it hits me so hard. In fact, it is hitting me extra hard because the last year I properly remember is 2019, since 2020 was not… lived in the way we are used to. That’s why TPN feels more like an anime that aired last year- and I’m feeling like I’m back home.
Tumblr media
Holy shit, this opening is so good- I’m not so good at pointing out visual details but, these are not just random people, I think they’re our babies, right? I can spot Ray, Lani and Gilda..? The hint of rabbits to humans to demons was so well-put. It’s like the food chain, and the opening is really quick to pace up, which is good- I LOVE songs that START RIGHT OFF THE BAT! NO NEED FOR A BUILD UP! BE BRAVE! SHOW UP! I LOVE THIS!
Tumblr media
Is this… is this a foreshadowing of that major thing that happened in the manga? I almost teared up. I missed these children so much. I wasn’t putting TPN Season 2 aside because I don’t care about the anime coming out, no- I was waiting until I was properly available so that I could stop, watch and devour, just like how I watched Banana Fish. (Looks like it’ll take a long while for me to catch up with six episodes. :P)
Tumblr media
MY BABIES!!!! MY ABSOLUTE BABIES!!! THEIR TIME SKIP APPEARANCES ARE FINALLY ANIMATED! My heart can’t take this sdgsdlg. Emma my baby. You were so good before manga utterly disappointed me, that’s why I’m glad anime is taking a different path. Despite the general rage in the fandom, I’ll actually give a chance to the anime, because I personally wasn’t happy with the way manga ended. So maybe anime can offer a different sight! ANYWAY, I’M SURE SOMEONE MUST HAVE POINTED OUT BEFORE BUT??? THE FACT THAT THEY SAVED NORMAN’S SIDE ON THE TRIO FRAME EMPTY?? MEANS SO MUCH. It’s like. We didn’t forget you, Norman. We love you, Norman.
Tumblr media
THEY REALLY STARTED FROM THE VIDA FLOWER!!! If only you didn’t exist, you hoelower.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spot the difference between a serotonin molecule and Ray, if you may. I dare you.
Tumblr media
SAME EMMA, SAME. HE IS GORGEOUS AND PRECIOUS AND ALIVE AND SAVED AND OUTSIDE AND BREATHING AND SAFELY WRAPPED AROUND HIS SCARF. YES. FUCKING YES.
Tumblr media
I love you fucking much, you have no idea. You’re the best boy on the earth. I’m so happy. I love you so much. I wish Ash had a happy ending like you as well. But no. Ash had to suffer. (For those who don't know, it's a reference to the anime Banana Fish.)
Continued in the comment section.
