do you have a guide as to the extra materials for The Dragon Prince? i keep seeing stuff about comics or books but idk where to start
Not on hand but I can make one here! :D
There are two, soon to be three, canon graphic novels.
Through the Moon takes place between seasons 3 and 4, like a little season 3.5 It isn't Necessary to read it before watching S4 but the story is cool and the extra information is neat. It feels like we might get more info regarding what happened to Rayla while she was gone later in the show
Bloodmoon Huntress takes place when Rayla is a child around when her parents leave. Lots of Runaan and Ethari, also introduces Kim'dael who will be in S5. Again, not Required reading but a fun extra story.
Puzzle House is coming out August 1st and is about Claudia and Soren as children, and we also get a look at younger Viren and other people. Harrow's father, King Atticus is still king in this one so interesting Katolis lore, SUPER hyped for when we get to read all of this one. The Scholastic link has a 15 pages preview if you wanna take a peek.
There are novelizations for Dragon Prince Season 1 and Season 2, they add a bit of introspection and small extra details. Viren in particular gets more of his internal thought processes laid out and for me it just Confirmed a lot of things. Season 3's novelization is coming out April 2nd, 2024. I'm sure all 7 seasons will eventually have novelizations.
Tales of Xadia is the ttrpg book and it's gorgeous and is probably the most lore heavy supplemental material as far as world building goes. The system also looks fun! The website has a character builder too for OC making. As a writer, it's been a great help as far as seeing some aspects of the world laid out. The system looks fun and there are videos of some of the cortex(?) team playing ToX official tales/campaigns but I haven't watched them yet. The campaigns are also available to look at online too.
I think that ToX is getting an expansion at some point since the base game doesn't touch much on Ocean or Star magic, I imagine due to spoilers for the seasons we're coming up on.
There's also a tabletop game called Battlecharged which I haven't personally played and I don't think it Adds lore but I've heard it's fun.
Also, it will likely be a long time before we see it, but there's a video game in the works as well that's in alpha testing right now called Project Arcanum. Wonderstorm is pretty busy!
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE
The Free Stuff:
Reflections are official short stories hosted on TDP's website and all of them are excellent and provide little extra scenes. Some of them are quite impactful, and the ones in this second batch are promising an absolutely wild S5. The first batch was released pre S4 and the second batch is being released now pre S5 as we count down to the new season. They aren't Required reading since the most key information from them will be in the show (going by the S4 ones) but I highly HIGHLY rec reading them all. Banger after banger. As of posting this there may be one more coming.
There's also little 4 panel comics called Everyday Xadia that have been also released during countdown mode and they're just fun/cute. Volume One and Volume 2 (still coming out). Sometimes when people say comics they might mean these, or the graphic novels lol.
Thank you for the ask, I'm always happy to share the TDP love and I hope this was helpful to you and anyone else who'd like a ref!

Now that we have the trailer, episode titles, and added context from the TDP shorts this season, I thought I’d take a stab at doing another season breakdown since there’s been so much updated information. Let’s dig in!
5x01 — Domina Profundis
The most likely episode to begin with a deep lore flashback, if any are going to, a la 3x01′s introduction with Sol Regem. This will probably involve Domina Profundis and perhaps her last goodbye to Zubeia after the death of the Empress broke her heart and she disappeared into the oceans. The scene of Ezran retrieving the Siren Stone from Zubeia’s antechambers at the Storm Spire are presumably a ‘missing’ scene from this episode as well, given that he’s with Soren and Corvus, so the group must have gone back to Katolis to pick up the later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first 4ish tracks from the soundtrack also likely belong to this episode.
29. The Beacon (1:44) — Ez, Corvus, and Soren lighting the Beacon to try and summon Domina Profundis.  30. Consequences of Magic (1:32) — Catching us up that Viren passed out for the general audience (hi end credits) and Terry and Clauda thinking about their next move. 31. I Haven’t Forgotten (3:41) — Could be Rayla going down to the dungeons for answers about her family and finding Runaan’s bow, as this is likely the only episode the whole gang will be remotely in Katolis for a while. It could also be inklings of Viren or Karim (Janai being very aware that her brother, while banished/exiled/jailed for now, is still out there.) This could also easily tie into Zubeia. 32. Seeking Answers (3:05) — Could possibly also be Rayla going down to the dungeons in Katolis and/or the kids having their “We need more info on Startouch elves” talk, and making a plan for Callum and Rayla to go to the Great Bookery of Lux Aurea.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While we know Ezran meets Domina Profundis, I would not be surprised if she says no to helping them and/or provides a dead end (her piece of the puzzle was given to the Empress, and has gone ‘missing’ since) and she retreats back into the waves, forcing Ez and Zubeia to consider other avenues.
5x02 — Old Wounds
Callum and Rayla, if they haven’t already, set out for Lux Aurea. Claudia reluctantly realizes that they can’t spend anymore time waiting for Viren to wake up, and that they have get moving, adjacent to these soundtrack titles.
Tumblr media
33. Early Mornings (0:52) 34. My Most Eager Student (4:58) 35. Keep Moving (3:01)
Tumblr media
Viren could be having this initial talks with Aaravos (in which case the student is Claudia) or it could be about him and Kpp’Ar in dream flashbacks. Early mornings / here could also easily be where Janai gives Amaya the sunforge blade as a gift.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, this is almost definitely where Sol Regem and Karim meet / start to conspire, thanks to Sol Regem’s literal old wounds. Ez and Zubeia shortly travel to where the dragons congregate for his speech.
Tumblr media
5x03 — Nightmares and Revelations
Almost definitively a big episode for Viren with his dark magic induced dreams, as well as Callum possibly having a nightmare while he and Rayla are on the road to Lux Aurea, resulting in the banther chase (threat in the forest). Terry and Claudia literally carrying Viren either has to come from this episode or the prior one, as it seems they make their ‘dream raft’ sooner rather than later in the season.
36. Threat in the Forest (2:30) 37. Dream Raft (2:43) 38. Calling the Dragons of Xadia (3:09) 39. In Your Dreams (1:55)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where the Rayla and Callum “Stargazing” clip would fit as well, before they get attacked by the Banther and have to flee into the night.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, Ezran and Zubeia - likely fearing that without Domina’s help, they won’t be able to successfully beat Claudia to the prison - call upon the dragons of Xadia to instead help hunt her down and stop her along the way, resulting in the water dragon we see pictured a few times attacking her in the trailer (probably in the next episode).
Tumblr media
5x04 — The Great Bookery
Callum and Rayla arrive in New Aurea and are taken to the Great Bookery with one less mount, aided by Amaya and Kazi, the latter of whom stays to do research with Callum (and possibly with Rayla, but unknown).
Tumblr media
We also know thanks to the trailer and its backgrounds that Rayla tells Callum about the coins as well while they’re with the Sunfire elves, backed up by the according soundtrack titles:
41. To the Library (2:15) 42. Stay Safe (2:17) 43. Father and Daughter (1:37) 44. Like Aunt, Like Nephew (2:46) 45. We Can Help Them (2:26) 46. We Fight (2:59) - the Big Fight scene that’s featured in the numerous trailers, with Amaya, Callum, and Rayla 47. Rescue at the Great Bookery (4:04)
Tumblr media
Zubeia saves Callum, Rayla, and Amaya from the corrupted banthers at the Great Bookery. (If you look closely, you can see the banthers actually falling down to the right of the screencap.)
Tumblr media
5x05 — Archmage Akiyu
The gang reunites and pools together what they’ve found, resulting in the location of the prison and knowing who to find next (and where) in Archmage Akiyu, who is probably masquerading around as Tidebound Tina to be left the fuck alone (and to gauge anyone who may come calling for the information she has). This is when they have to go under the shells and follow the old Tidebound lady further. If Zubeia is having a dragon political plot line, this would be a good time to develop it, as well as Janai and Amaya dealing with the aftermath of whatever the hell’s happening in Lux Aurea.
Tumblr media
Tina, either this episode or the next, leads to the kids to some kind of bioluminescent cave (maybe they passed some kind of ‘good intentions’ test) and unveils her staff and true identity as Akiyu.
Tumblr media
The kids either stay here for an ep or one of the ending scenes is where Callum and Rayla have a bit of ‘pool date’ (for lack of a better term - take note of the bucket in the background, and Rayla is smiling briefly before hand, so it certainly seems safe) even if it doesn’t end well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Given the context of Ezran’s short story and his complicated feelings about Runaan, I wonder if it’s some kind of disagreement surrounding the situation of Ez, Runaan, and the coins.
Soundtrack:
48. A Magical Prison (2:14)
5x06 — Bait and Switch
Akiyu, perhaps, has the location of the prison, and clues to where the final piece they need is: some sort of treasure taken from the Empress by the motley pirates who slayed her, and currently in Captain Finnegrin’s grasp in Scumport.
I can also see this being another big episode for Viren, realizing that Claudia is now the one Aaravos is after rather than himself, and it’s been “a bait and switch” if you will. Viren possibly finally wakes up after being passed out for 2/3rds of the season, his dream visions to an end.
Tumblr media
Also Bait possibly being used as Bait, and Scumport being a place where Rayla can act as a quasi guide.
5x07 — Sea Legs
The kids make their way to Scumport after Rayla leads them to the ferry with a Charon-like figure and her Finnegrin’s Favour coin to prove it.
Tumblr media
49. Welcome to Scumport (1:00) 50. Times Are Changing (2:21) 51. Blood Moon Rises (1:30)
It could also have a double meaning if the kids have already been doing some sailing between places and thanks to the promo poster with the octopus/squid (sea legs indeed).
Tumblr media
Karim has either enlisted Kim’Dael (if Zubeia put an end to Sol Regem’s involvement) as another attempt to wedge dissent in his sister’s kingdom, or hearing of the unrest, Kim’Dael has come to make herself known. This may also tie into Claudia’s ‘blood moon’ quasi-vision (symbol?) scene that an awakened Viren seems to witness.
Tumblr media
52. If You Kill Me Now (1:59) - Kim’Dael and Karim or a Callum and Rayla conversation? 53. The Wounded Return (2:13) - the survivors of Kim’Dael’s attack going back to Janai and Amaya with grave news
While in Scumport, the kids steal whatever they need from Finnegrin’s tower, complete with Ezran finally getting to go down another zippy-line-thingy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They’ve either teamed up with Nyx (who seems to be comandeering her own ship) before as an exit strategy, or as a spur of a moment thing. The pirates pursue.
Tumblr media
5x08 — Finnegrin’s Wake
The pirates catch up to them, even with sky magic speed boosts, and Callum possibly gets in a brawl with Finnegrin’s ‘first mate’ (?) Deadwood, who we see in Ch2 of Chasing Shadows is basically unbeatable. This leads to his injuries (the black eye and scrape on his face) although how and why we don’t know. Fingers crossed it’s fucked up and for Rayla (who has possibly stolen from him in the past) bc I can dream. Callum is seemingly made to summon lighting per Finnegrin’s command (notice the sleeve and the fulminus rune) to maybe lure in Domina Profundis, since it seems she has a male Tidebound rival, and Finnegrin is the one male Tidebound elf we’ve been introduced to (and if he benefitted from the Empress’ death, that’d certainly fit).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
54. To Kill an Archdragon (3:03) 55. Not Yours to Give (4:50) - Aaravos magic related flashback? Kim’Dael, Karim, and Janai standoff because Karim can’t free her and Janai is still the rightful heir? 56. Deadwood Deserves Dignity (3:03) 57. Captain of a Crustacean (2:04)
Captain of a Crustacean seems like another reference to Finnegrin, although why it’s being emphasized now, I have no clue. Deadwood Deserves Dignity seems like a funeral, to me (as well as ‘wake’ meaning like in the wake of waves you’re leaving, or a funeral wake) so it’s possible that whatever Callum does here also kills some people. If the pirates were trying to kill Domina, ‘to kill an archdragon’ would fit in nicely, even if she will most likely come in and save the kids when all their boats get blown to splinters.
5x09 — Infantis Sanguine
Means “Blood of a Child” with a lot of possible options and primal/deep magic implications (“the lost child” referring to both Claudia and my little man, Sir Sparklepuff; Ezran and Zym being literal children; Aaravos deriding the whole dragang as “pathetic children”; Elarion being labelled “a black-eyed child” after Aaravos ‘gave’ magic to it/her). None of it’s good.
58. Zubeia’s Dream (2:54) 59. The Sea of the Castout (4:00)  60. The Prison Should Be Here (3:25) 61. Underwater Showdown (1:41) - hopeful mage fight between Callum and Claudia + everyone else 62. Tomorrow the Sun Will Rise (3:07) - is not a good thing, for reasons I will reaffirm below
S5 will likely end with Aaravos out, the Moon possibly but probably not freed, Janai’s kingdom in shambles and handed over to her brother, and a good deal of extra angst (Viren defecting and alive against his will? Claudia snapping? Other injuries for the main kids) for good measure, because
1) Nothing good in this show ever happens at dawn (Sarai and the queens of Duren’s deaths, Callum’s possession, the moonstone path disappearing, etc).  2) Love you season long Karim’s metaphor hold out
Tumblr media
3) The humans huddled together, scarcely daring to breathe, awaiting the rise of the sun. And when the long, dark night had finally passed—for the sun must always rise, mustn’t it?—they gazed out upon an unfamiliar landscape. —TDP Reflections: Ripples
Conclusion
As always some of this is inevitably wrong / going to be shuffled around further, and while it may feel like a lot has been revealed, it only just makes me more curious for everything we don’t know as there are still plenty of gaps and all sorts of ways things could go horribly, terribly wrong for our favourite characters in the best of ways. And I cannot wait to see how the season turns out and what’s wrong and what’s right in just under a week!

So...
Y’all seen the TDP season 4 news yesterday? I don’t wanna spoil anything so I’ll put the links to where you can see all the info below, but I can now confidentially say the remainder of my fic’s cannon compliance has been nuked haha! Oh well, I knew this was coming, that’s why I had already marked it as an AU from the start.
Anyway here’s the Cartoon Universe twitter where they shared updates from the SDCC and even a recap of the first episode of season 4 that they had watched during the presentation. You may have to scroll down a bit to get to the start of it.
https://twitter.com/CartoonUV?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor
Also TDP released an official clip of season 4 on their official twitter, so those of us that didn’t get to attend at least got to see something!

TDP Season 4 Preliminary Predictions, Part One (1-12)
So with S4 in production, no trailer in sight, and a TBA release date, it looks like there’s still a wait before we get any news on the upcoming season.
That being said, we do have some information to go on regarding what might be in store for our favorite characters. (Previous SDCC interviews, the recent Instagram Live and Reddit AMA with the creators, Callum’s Spellbook, and of course, Through the Moon.)
So I decided to put together some preliminary predictions based on the info we have so far. My desire is to create a TDP S4 bingo board just before the season airs, so that gives me 24 guesses/predictions to come up with (not including the free space). I’ll probably tweak most of these once we get our trailer, since I’m sure it’ll provide more insight as to the direction of the show.
So without further ado, here are my first 12 TDP S4 preliminary predictions...
1. Spring 2021 Release
During the Reddit AMA at the beginning of October, the creators gave the following update:
Tumblr media
Since it’s been over a month, we can safely assume they’re in production now.
From what I understand, pre-production is mostly writing and storyboarding, possibly voice recording as well. If they’re in the production phase, that means animation has begun.
Let’s consider the turnaround time for past seasons. S1′s airdate was September 14, 2018; S2′s was February 15, 2019; and S3′s was November 22, 2019. This means that there was only a five month gap between S1 and S2, and a nine month gap between S2 & S3.
The gap between S3 & S4 has been longer than both of those. But considering that we’ve had a global pandemic and that we’ve been waiting on Netflix to greenlight more seasons, this is to be expected. We only heard about the renewal back in July. Assuming the team started work around that time, they’ve already been working for about four months.
If we estimate that it’ll be another five months before we see S4, (nine months in total, same as the wait between S2 and S3), that means it will air around April 2021. Of course, it could air before or after - depending on how long production takes. But I believe it’s safe to say that we could be seeing TDP S4 air in spring 2021.
2. Timeskip < 6 Months
We know from interviews that there will be a timeskip between S3 & S4. If you’ve read Through the Moon, you know that there’s a few weeks in between the end of S3 and the beginning of the graphic novel, and that the events of the story happen in the span of about two weeks. So we can estimate that it’s been about a month between the end of S3 and the end of TTM.
We also know there will be a bit of a timeskip between TTM and the start of S4, per the Reddit AMA, but we’re not sure how long that will be.
My guess? The timeskip between S3 & S4 will be six months or less.
I was initially going to play it safe and say “less than three years,” because anything more than that would require a recast to account for teenage Ezran. (And given how much the creators and fans LOVE Sasha, I doubt a recast will ever happen in the show.)
Tumblr media
But realistically, I don’t think the timeskip will be more than a half a year. The events of TTM imply that the story is very much moving forward, and anything too far in the future would give the audience too much to be caught up on. So it’ll likely be only a few months of a gap between seasons, and definitely less than six.
3. New Clothing & Hair for Characters
Many of the characters in ATLA received either new hairstyles or clothing between the seasons. So following that logic, and given that Ehasz is behind both shows, it stand to reason the same will hold true for TDP.
The creators have confirmed that Callum will be going “sun’s out, gun’s out” for S4. (Their words, not mine.) This makes sense since he now knows how to cast mage wings, and he wants them to be readily accessible at a moment’s notice.
We also see that Rayla’s sporting a new cloak when she leaves at the end of TTM, so she’ll likely have this for S4 as well.
Tumblr media
Ezran may get new garb as well, as he settles into his new role as king.
I also think it’s possible that their hair could change as well. Rayla’s on her own now, so her hair will probably just get longer. Maybe she’ll braid it or wrap it up in a ponytail to keep it out of her face. If Callum returns to Katolis, he might get a haircut in-between seasons. But if he goes straight out to search for Rayla, his hair might be even longer.
Either way, new hair and clothes seems like a given.
4. Older Zym
Tumblr media
The creators have assured us in prior interviews that Zym is still very much a part of this story. It is called The Dragon Prince after all.
That being said, I think it’s possible we’ll see a slightly older Zym next season, especially due to the timeskip. I doubt he’ll get much bigger. He’ll probably go from being the size of a puppy to the size of a full-grown dog. And I don’t think he’ll talk yet. That seems like it won’t be for many years in the future.
Still, I think we can reasonably look forward to seeing an older Zym.
5. Mid Season Rayllum Reunion
I already have a post highlighting the reasons why I think Callum and Rayla will definitely reunite in S4, as I know many fans are wondering if they’ll spend the whole season apart.
But I think this reunion may happen sooner rather than later. By that, I’m guessing it’ll happen at the midway point - either episodes 4 or 5.
This gives us the chance to have three or four whole episodes with them apart, which seems like a reasonable amount. Then we get their reunion, which’ll likely be it’s own episode. Then we get four or five whole episodes with them together again, dealing with the fallout of Rayla’s decision, working together, and hopefully reconciling by the season’s end. This seems like it could be a nice, tidy arc for them to have for the season, so that’s what I’m going to guess will happen.
Plus, it’ll have us feeling all the feels.
6. Janai’s Brother Wants the Throne
It’s been confirmed that Janai and Khessa have a younger, unnamed brother. We know nothing about him, and the creators decided not to comment when asked about him during the AMA. This means that he’ll likely be an important player for S4.
One of the writers (I believe it was Devon) also confirmed via Twitter that Janai is next in line for the throne after her sister’s death, calling her Queen Janai.
This raises a very interesting potential plotline for S4. What if Janai decides to ally with the humans that helped during the battle at the Storm Spire? What if her brother is not happy about this? Letting a human into Lux Area was the reason Khessa died, after all.
What if Janai’s brother decided to make a play for the throne - either by contesting Janai’s rule, threatening civil war, or by trying to usurp the thone?
The creator’s have mentioned that despite the Zym being returned to Xadia, there is still a long road to peace between the elves and humans. They alluded to an “event” that makes Ezran aware of this.
Unrest / war between the Sunfire elves could very easily be what they’re talking about. And Janai’s brother wanting the throne could very easily be the catalyst for that.
7. Aaravos in the Shadows
Tumblr media
Many fans are speculating that our main characters may now finally become aware of Aaravos’s existence in the series. As for me? I’m not so sure.
Keep in mind, outside of Viren, Claudia, and perhaps a handful of Sunfire elves, no one else in the show knows of Aaravos’s existence. He’s been keeping to the shadows, pretty clearly using Viren as his puppet.
With the end of S3, he’s in the cocoon, leaving Viren and Claudia on their own. We don’t know how long it’ll take for him to emerge, or even what form he’ll take when that happens. But we do know that he’ll be back for S4, per Erik Todd Dellums. (And apparently, he’ll have an even sexier voice.)
I imagine he and the dark mage fam will have their own arc in S4, which may eventually intersect with whatever the main cast is up to, but not for awhile yet. As for Aaravos himself, I think he’s playing the long game. And I think part of that means staying in the shadows as much as he possible can, while he consolidates power. The goal it seems is to make his form stronger and stronger, and eventually finding a way to leave the mirror realm entirely. Why would he want to play his cards too early?
So with Viren and Aaravos out of the way for much of S4, who does this leave as the main antagonist?
8. Sol Regem, Main Antagonist
Tumblr media
Enter Sol Regem. It’s been confirmed that we’ll see him again, after all. And we know just how much hatred he has for humans. He was hellbent on frying Callum to a crisp, even after he had agreed to return the human kingdoms.
It was revealed that Sol Regem was once revered by the Sunfire elves, before he became a symbol of rage and bitterness. Still, this reverence is an important part of Sunfire history.
This is something Janai’s brother could leverage if he’s looking to usurp the throne and pit the human-hating Sunfire elves against those that are loyal to Janai. With the literal Sun King on his side, he becomes a formidable foe.
This could be the event that leads Ezran to act. Will the humans who fought at the Storm Spire come to the aid of Janai and her people? Will the Dragon Queen weigh in on this matter? Will they need to gather the other elemental dragons together in hopes of defeating Sol Regem? (If so, this is a way we could bring Rex Igneous into the story.)
This might be a bit of a stretch, of course. But it does lead for an interesting direction for S4, and S5 as well, and would be a way to introduce more dragons and keep Zym and his mother in the story.
And, as I stated in my Rayllum S4 reunion post, this gives Rayla incentive to stop hunting Viren and shift gears to focus on the more emergent threat. Which in turn could reunite Team Zym once again.
9. Rex Igneous Eats a Jelly Tart
Tumblr media
It’s pretty much a given that we will meet Rex Igneous (the Earth dragon) in this season. You can see a sneak peak of him in Callum’s Sketchbook, which has the following caption:
Tumblr media
It was also revealed by the creators that some “very important figures” would be eating jelly tarts in upcoming seasons.
Given this information, it doesn’t seem farfetched to imagine that Rex Igneous will be one of those figures.
10. Soren & Ezran Adventure / Bonding
Tumblr media
Soren used to share his screen time with Claudia, but now that she’s out on her own with her dad, he’ll need a new buddy to share screen time with.
I nominate Ezran, mostly because S3 dealt a lot with their relationship, and it just makes sense to continue to develop this in S4. Plus, Ezran’s the king and Soren’s the guard. Where he goes, Soren follows.
So it makes sense that they’ll have an adventure together in S4.
11. Dramatic Claudia Reveal / Confrontation
I had this on my list for awhile, but Ehasz tweeted this and nearly confirmed it:
Tumblr media
I think we’re going to get either a really dramatic reveal or confrontation between Claudia and another character. Either Viren, Soren, or possibly Callum. (I don’t think it’ll be Rayla, since she has no real connection to Claudia.) Or perhaps it’ll simply be a dramatic reveal for us, the audience.
Either way, stuff’s going down.
12. Callum Learns Moon Arcanum
The creators have mentioned that Callum will be learning more of the primal sources in future seasons. I think it stands to reason that moon will be next for him.
S3 already showed him starting to grasp a lot of the fundamentals of the source - both in their evasion of Sol Regem and in casting the spell to see Rayla’s parents. Through the Moon builds on this even more, with him using moon opals to cast more moon magic, and learning even more from Lujanne regarding the nature of the primal.
Being separated from Rayla might be the push he needs to finally unlock the arcanum once in for all. Perhaps it’ll be key to tracking her down, if he goes after her.
If not, perhaps understanding Rayla’s past and the decision that she made, and their reconciliation is what will trigger it.
Hard to say for sure, but I feel like this will relate to Rayla in some way. And it will definitely happen in S4.
Okay, that’s it for now. I’ll do a part 2 eventually and go through my last 12 predictions.

🚧Upcoming Blog Changes 🚧
HEY so I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how I want to continue with RP, not just on this blog, but just like, in general. I love all the characters I currently play, and wholeheartedly intend to keep up with them all, but I have other characters I’d like to mess around and experiment with too, and I think I’ll have a far easier time of doing that with everything I’m currently doing consolidated under one blog. Fewer accounts, fewer draft piles to account for, dumping my attention into one big bucket versus a bunch of little buckets.
So I’m kind of dedicating this week to getting all of that in order. That’s gonna include: (and feel free to ignore this, it’s honestly more for my personal reference just to have all this jotted down)
Redoing my current OC page with updated character info. I’ve already made new About pages for Claudia, Ciro, Kira, and Aki, but I still have to get at least Lucius, Luca, and Reema’s up and running.
Migrating my current other active RP blog (Hazel Grouse from Saiyuki, @go-forth-and-live) over here. I’m probablyyyy? gonna do this last.
Setting up a separate canon muse about page, for both muses I’m bringing back and new ones I’m giving a test run to.
For older muses: I’m probably gonna move over Simon Blackquill ( @samurai-esquire ) and Lin Xianming ( @shoubupantsu ). I haven’t really decided if I’m migrating over my favorite mad scientist wizard Viren from TDP ( @youareaservant ) just yet, though I might, depending on how season 4 goes? I also kind of like that blog sitting abandoned with last year’s Christmas icon too. That would’ve been a very Viren way to go out.
For newer muses: I’m thinkin’ real hard about Grillby and/or Gaster from Undertale and yes, I know, the year 2016 called and it wants its weird fandom rabbit holes back, but frankly, everyone got to have their weird fandom rabbit holes this year, and apparently this was mine, I am working it out of my system. In Gaster’s case, I’m gonna have to put a lot of thought into how I want to approach writing a character who like... only ostensibly exists? semi-exists??? within the context of his media and honestly much more through fan interpretation (which is the weirdest of fandom rabbit holes), so idk. It’s in the Strong Consider/I Have About 3/4s Of An Idea pile. Also might fuck around with a Carmen Sandiego muse, have not decided

Arcanum Theory
Discussing with my friends we had an awesome idea: being that there will be 7 main human characters in TDP, who will all be connected to an arcanum, with 6 of them already being known:
Callum - Sky: Duh, it's already happened.
Ezran - Earth: His willpower and conviction to his ideas of peace and justice fit with the Earth arcanum, along with actual animal-talking powers
Amaya - Sun: She is a beacon of righteousness and leadership, which are Sun attributes, and of course Janai and passing the sun purification in Lux Aurea
Now for the less obvious ones(all this info on the elemental traits is taken from the official Arcanum quiz on the TDP website, so it's canon, btw):
Soren - Ocean: The ocean is about change, and understanding the surface vs. the depths of a matter. Given Books 4 and 5 will be about forgiveness and consequences of Books 1-3, Soren will be dealing with coming to terms with leaving Viren, and having been gaslit and abused, with his abuse being unseeable by an outside perspective, fitting the Ocean symbolism of surface vs. the true depths. His connection to the ocean arcanum could also be paralleled by Claudia's lack thereof, as she stays with Viren and doesn't see him as abusive.
Claudia - Stars: The stars are about intelligence, destiny and changing fate("Impossible is just another kind of possible" ring a bell?), wishes(wanting her family to stay together), and truth and vision. The last two might seem to not fit with her, given how she chose Viren over Soren, but imagine a redemption arc - where she leaves Viren's shadow and sees the truth about him and Aaravos... connecting to the star arcanum, and being a foil to Aaravos.
There's nobody important enough to fit with Moon yet, as we only have 6 important human characters, but we're due for a few more, having a non-Katolis human in the next book who becomes a main character would fit well(we could use more characters from the other human kingdoms).
Lastly, Viren - Dark: I know what you're saying, there is no dark arcanum as it's an artificial element... But when everyone else disavows dark magic and connects to a real arcanum, Viren will be the only one without an arcanum, as he stuck by dark magic, in a way connecting to his element, thematically paralleling the others, with their real connections to their elements. He's likely to survive to the final season, fitting as the 7th living human with a connection to their arcanum(even if he dies at the end).

I was asked and ask, and in my flu causing feverish state, I deleted it. So if you’re out there and recognize this question (and I’m paraphrasing) please reblog and @ me.
So If i remember, the question was along the lines of
“Why isnt there huge amounts of stuff, for shows like She -Ra and TDP, are they not as popular?”
Lets go for a ride...
Tumblr media
I think the reason why we dont get the same amount of content generated for shows such as The Dragon Prince and She-ra, say in comparison to shows like RWBY.
And by content, I mean, theories, memes, art and in depth analysis, boils down to 3 things.
Tumblr media
1) Time to Generate.
Both The Dragon Prince and She-Ra have only recently dropped their first season. Now both have their second season coming rather swiftly, esp in the case of The Dragon Prince. Season 2 is dropping tomorrow: Feb 15 2019 over on Netflix.
She-Ra’s is set to be released April 26th 2019, again on Netflix.
The Dragon Prince S1 was released on Sept 14th 2018, and She-Ra: Princesses of Power, Nov, 13th 2018.
In TDP case, that is a 5 month and 1 day turn around and SPOP, 5 months and 13 days turn around.
It is rather unheard of for an animation to have their Second season be ready in under 6 months. Usually it is anywhere from 10 months minimum to a year or in some cases, even longer.
I put this down to the success of the two series and how the audience received them, and Netflix wishing to capitalize on it, and the hype generated.
Lets just hope that the both properties dont feel rushed as a result.
So with such little time, and a very short hiatus in terms of tv shows, (which is when most of fandom generated content tends to be created), that gives very little time for their respective fandoms to leave their senses and devolve into some sort of animeesque Lord of the Flies in a matter of weeks, in a bid to cope.
(RWBY FNDM, I’m looking at you with your ‘Beehaw’s’ and YORSE, and ‘Scheehaw’s’. I still cant believe you made Arryn read that with her own eyes!!)
Tumblr media
(You can tumblr search Yorse yourself, I aint making anyone look at that cursed image without their consent. You’ve been warned! ;p @hammertime-rwby  i shake my head in your general direction... ;D )
Time to generate can also be reflected in how long a show has been on air, thereby garnering a wider and much larger fanbase with a broader set of creative skills, which in turn results in more fandom content generated, esp if there is the potential of shipping.
And bloody hell does SPOP have some crazy potential on the shipping front,
Tumblr media
2) Time to Mature and Fandom Engagement.
As a show matures and the audience leans learn more about the characters and the world that they inhabit, the nature of fandom created content evolves. It also depends on the verve of the show itself.
The way in which a show is presented, the topics and themes they cover, the way the characters and the world are presented, can vicariously dictate how the fandom engages with the property, go forth and multiply.
For example:
Sherlock is very meme worthy and that tends to be reflected in the content that is generated by the Sherlockians.
RWBY has been out for 6 volumes and has a very dedicated and passionate FNDM, but it is also broad, large and incredibly diverse.
It is also rather vocal and has very strong differing opinions from one end of the spectrum to the other, which in turn creates YT reviews, reactions and rebuttals and heated retorts.
These polarising pov’s can then go on to permeate to other branches of social media, such as twitter, tumblr, discord etc etc
Same with fandom accepted headcanons and lore...
(I’m still on the fence about you Renora Rodeo Round up... You’re on thin ice! ;p )
But it has taken a number of years to cultivate.
Neither The Dragon Prince or She-Ra has had the time to do that, yet!
But I’m certain that will change in the coming future.
She-Ra has already generated quite the buzz on both the positive and negative sides, due to being based on a much loved, older, property, ‘She-Ra 1985′, but that is a mine field which I covered on my previous blog before some asshat decided to axe it.
Also, the themes that Netflix She-Ra seems to be covering, which helped generate a lot of the negative backlash towards the show, will most definitely continue to be polarizing... So I would keep an eye out if YT and people picking stuff apart is your jam.
On the other side, what SPOP seems to be trying to deliver will also generate lots of awesome content. Just look at how this took off,
Tumblr media
“Hey Adora”
And this cinnamon roll’s preoccupation with ‘force captain orientation’,
Tumblr media
The Dragon Prince strikes me as a show that would generate deep reflective analysis of world and characters as well as theories, much like its older cousin, Avatar Last Airbender, once there is more to comb over and speculate on.
Tumblr media
These two shows are presented differently and they way they are tackling certain themes in their respective narratives are also vastly different, which could also have a lot to do with their respective target audience and intended demographic,  so it stands to reason that the results of fandom generated content would be different.
Tumblr media
3) Platform and Format.
This I believe is one of the most important aspects which ties the previous points above.
If a property is delivered week by week, such as RWBY, there is time, for the FNDM, after they make amazing screen shots and insta analysis and excited speculations, to go over it again and allow the episode to sink in.
(which both TDP and SPOP could do, as they have episodic episodes but that is an entirely different post)
There is time for the fans to go sit back and react to what they have seen, whether that is creating beautiful fan art, crafting in depth theories, character analysis, extrapolate potential world building.
A week by week delivery culminates in an emotional impact that is allowed to foster and grow, thereby gives space and time for the individual to go off and create content for their respective fandom.
Tumblr media
Fanart takes time, fics take time.
The not knowing what could happen next opens up the avenues of thought out speculations.
Having a week to go over everything to that point and process new info. Being able to take your time to research and prep before you put it out there, results in good, in depth analysis and well crafted work.
Time gives breeding ground.
(Some wait years for lore.. Overwatch fandom, I dont know how we do it! But we all cant be Tracer!)
Because, we are so salivating at the the mouth for insta gratification and ‘binge’ culture has become so prevalent where media is concerned.
When a property is delivered all at once, it gives no breathing space for speculation and wild theories.
For a particular scene or interaction between characters to have an emotional impact and thereby create emotionally significant fan art, that is reblogged and shared in that moment, give it time to resonate with its respective fandoms.
And there for have time for other members of the fandom to be inspired to go off and create their own stuff in what ever medium is their forte.
Tumblr media
Because we are on this fast paced ride, not only from the start of the chapter 1 to end of the first ‘book’, so to speak, but also the social media need to be the first to create the content for the fandom, the type of content generated, how and why, is hugely different and may not at first glance look like it is forth coming..
It just takes time to sink in.. To go back through and re-evaluate.
Being inspired by a particular interaction between two characters , or a certain facet of the world that an fan may have noticed and wishes to expand on, art wise, fic wish or theroise, loses its validity when you know that the next episode could answer your burning questions in less than 5 seconds.
And so you stave off for the dreaded nine episode when your eye balls are nearly gumming together and you know you have work in 4 hours but you need answers to the burning questions..
and so results.
Tumblr media
This is not the content creators fault, in anyway. This is quite literally the way in which it is delivered.
Its is pretty much,
Tumblr media
II) However, in Conclusion
The perceived lack of fandom interaction/generated content, in the social media platforms that a fan chooses to  consume, or is available to them, does not mean that a show isn't popular.
The ties to previous projects, such as SPOP to She-Ra 1985  and The Dragon Prince to Avatar Last Airbender are vastly different.
Expectations are vastly different.
Fandom interaction and generation of fandom content, is not a measure made of how popular a show is.
Also, politely, remember the demographic of which these shows are aimed at.
Be respectful of the show creators, the property, the characters and the narrative that the show creators have painstakingly crafted and put out into the world.
The story that they want to tell.
Again,
 a reminder,
Tomorrow, 15th Feb 2019 , Season 2 of The Dragon Prince.
Tumblr media
(im gonna go back into my fluey coma now)

Note
in response to the anon asking about the probability of tdp season 4, you’re right about aaron needing to be held accountable for his actions, but aren’t there tons of other people that work on the show? idk and i’m not trying to be rude, just legitimately curious!!
yeah there are! but he's in charge and he's one of the creators so it could be hard to get rid of him if it comes to that or to hold him accountable. the show has a good crew other than him and stuff. I also don't know a whole bunch about the situation because I learned about it the day before s3 came out, so I am not the person with the info

“I would first caution anyone that unfortunately there are some fake interviews with me out there that spread some false info” — Aaron Ehasz breaks his 10-year silence about ATLA Book 4 and The Legend of Korra!
So as I’m sure many Avatar fans know, there have been some pretty wild rumors over the years about an alleged Book 4 of ATLA, purportedly sourced to head writer Aaron Ehasz.
Well, he just set the record straight in a Reddit AMA for his new show The Dragon Prince.
And of course, the rumors were fake.
Take a look:
Regarding ATLA and season 4 speculation, I would first caution anyone that unfortunately there are some "fake interviews" with me out there that spread some false info -- so it's hard to say if those specific topics are true or not.
The truth is that the creators' (Mike and Bryan) original plan was always to do only three seasons. While we were writing the show, Nickelodeon did ask me to give thought to what a fourth season would be, and it was also something I discussed briefly with Mike. However in the end Mike and Bryan decided to end the story where we ended it, and based on the love people have for the series I would be hard-pressed to say it was a mistake!
I don't suspect the season 4 ideas were used in any comics or in Korra as Mike and I had not gotten into any of the specifics with him.
There you go. This has finally been put to rest. Moral of the story?
Tumblr media
Except this. You can believe this. Because their Reddit account is verified.
Anyway, he also for the first time commented on what he thought about The Legend of Korra!
“I thought [TLOK] was daring and beautiful! Mike and Bryan and the team were not afraid to take risks and push the Avatar universe into new territory, and I thought it was really exciting.”
So good stuff all around!
Now get back to binging TDP on Netflix! (Or ATLA if you’re in Canada, France, Germany, Poland, Brazil, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Spain, or Thailand. Or TLOK if you’re on Neptune 🙃)

Hi, folks! We’re back and happy to announce your new Mod Team for the Catradora Zine! In case you’re wondering, the Catradora Zine is a project dedicated to the characters Catra and Adora, from the 2018 She-Ra Reboot, and their complex relationship with one another. Check below for info on our Mods, along with links to even more information!
Tumblr media
Fonda
https://easyminds.tumblr.com || https://twitter.com/easyminds
Hello there, my name is Fonda. I’ve been apart of the SPOP fandom since the reboot aired but fondly remember the 1985 cartoon as luckily, I “retro” TV channels were a thing. I was the solo mod for the Fairy Tail Nakama, and I am currently planning a Allurance fanzine to launch in 2019. I was an artist on 4 other fanzines within the following fandoms; Miraculous Ladybug, Naruto, and Fairy Tail.
The reason I like Catra and Adora, as friends, enemies and as a romantic pair is because they as stand alone characters are not just defined by one another, but they both at the same time have had a huge impact on one another throughout season 1, especially Catra.
Tumblr media
Maya
https://lordzarcock.tumblr.com || https://twitter.com/lordzarcock
Hi, I’m Maya! I’ve been involved in many aspects of fandom events since 2016, and I love helping out in the community. I used to be mainly involved in the VLD and PJO fandom, but have since branched out to TDP and SPOP. I can usually be found working on spreadsheets or handling emails, with a color-coding system of course! I love organization and am a bit obsessed with maximizing everything.
I love Catra and Adora’s relationship because it’s so complex. It’s not perfect by any means, but the way they interact and think about their past make it apparent that they care for each other, even if it is confusing with how it is now as they grow as individuals. The relationship is twisted and tangled due to many factors, but I hope that things will get better in some way. They’ve loved each other as friends before, and I hope that they still love each other enough to come to a mutual understanding of their relationship, whatever that may be.
Tumblr media
Fricz
http://fricz-art.tumblr.com/ || https://twitter.com/FriczArt
Hello! My name is Noah or Fricz, I’m currently in a lot of fandoms being some of them YoI, VLD, Banana Fish and of course SPOP! I’m an animator and illustrator and my biggest dream ever is to become a concept artist and storyboard artist; I have previous experience being mod (particularly of Voltron zines) so I wish to bring my experience to this zine and learn a lot more.
I deeply enjoy Adora and Catra’s relationship because it feels real for me, it’s a friendship you can easily find in real life, making it easy to understand their personalities, I like how it portraits how it feels to grow up and how unavoidably friendship will change with it and how said friendship can overcome the change or how it’ll break. So yes, I like the complexity involving these girls and their relationship.
Tumblr media
AD
https://twitter.com/gesuko__
Hi! My name is Gesuko or AD. I was really excited for the SPOP reboot, and it delivered! I fell in love with the characters and their relationships with each other. This is my first time acting as a mod for a zine, but I’ve been an artist on 10+ other fanzines in the Voltron and Boku no Hero Academia fandoms, and many more on going projects. I currently work in animation, and fandom has really motivated me to work towards making my own show or comic someday.
I love Catra and Adora’s relationship because they have such a complicated history, and even though their sides conflict, they still care about each other deeply. What they do has profound effect on the other, but they’re both separate individuals with their own goals and motivations.
Shanimal
https://felicitywild.tumblr.com/
Hey, I’m Shanimal! I’ve dipped my toes in many a fandom, but magical fantasy has always been one if my favorite genres. Right now She-Ra and The Adventure Zone are at the top of my list, with shows like Voltron: Legendary Defender and Steven Universe close behind. Most of my involvement in fandom is as a fanfic writer, but I’m also currently a mod for two Voltron zines: If You Need Me: A VLD Whump zine, and the Voltron Yearbook.
Catra and Adora are one of my favorite dynamics in the show. As childhood friends turned adversaries, their relationship is wonderfully layered and complex, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out in future seasons!
Tumblr media
The following Mods will be tag-teaming the role of Formatting Mod:
Saleha (Main): our Support Mod (see below)
Syn (Support): our Social Media Mod (see below)
Tumblr media
syn
http://tiramiszu.tumblr.com/ || http://twitter.com/tiramirs/
( ´ ▽ ` )ノ Hi there! It’s nice to meet you. I go by syn. I’m a fan artist & hobbyist who’s recently gotten into zines! I have been a zine contributor in the past, and, most recently, have also organized my own small-scale zine. I’m excited to have been brought on as a moderator for the Catradora zine & look forward to bringing my best to this project & the fandom.
Catra and Adora’s relationship is the main feature that really draws me to the She-Ra series, and I’m definitely glad for it. They’re both such a defining presence in each other’s lives, finding it impossible to hate, but impossible to love one another, no matter which side of the war they’ve found each other on. There’s definitely no easy way out for the two of them, but I’m certainly rooting for them.
Tumblr media
FateReplay
https://twitter.com/FateReplay/
Hey there~ I’m Saleha, or FateReplay, and I’m a writer and creative works enthusiast. I love graphic design, layout, and organizing things! I’m currently the main mod for a FFXV Promptis zine (Insomnia High). I have a degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. I’m in a million fandoms and never have quite enough time for all of them.
She-Ra is a very nostalgic show for me. I love the reboot and the new twist it places on the characters and their relationships. For Catra and Adora specifically, to me their bond is something stronger than friendship but perhaps hard to define. They’ve experienced the worst and the best together, and now the state of the world is placing them on opposite ends of a war. I think they’re dynamic is complex, exciting, and worth exploring. The energy they have together is unlike any other!

Hi! Have you seen that the released date of the Bloodmoon Huntress has been delayed to June? Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I think it may mean Season 4 will come out next year in March/April (so to build the hype for BH), with the date divulged for the S2 anniversary. This way there'll be TDP content spaced out during the whole year and the franchise will exit hiatus at full speed. What do you think? Sorry to bother, I recently found TDP and I'm still in the hyped phase and just found your metas
(Cont. from the ask about the release date) Also, sorry if I made any grammar mistake, English isn't my first language and I'm still working on improving it. Thank you for your time!
Your English is fantastic, not to worry! It's a very hard language to learn (and I know bc it's the only one I speak) so I'm very impressed. Never would've known honestly <3
And thank you so much for sending this ask / info to me! I hadn't realized the date had changed, so that's good information to know in general. I think the date change is interesting for two reasons:
1) With the previous date, we were only roughly 5 months away from Bloodmoon Huntress and still didn't have a cover release, + pages shown at the con not being in full colour. Comparatively, we got TTM's cover release six months prior to the graphic novel's debut. So Bloodmoon Huntress could be getting delayed just due to production issues; it happens (as my publishing courses talk a lot about). But still, delaying production by a full two months is a little more rare than say, just one month the way they initially did for TTM.
2) My initial guess (hope?) for season four's release was within the first six months of 2022, but with Bloodmoon Huntress in April it kinda curbed that. Now, Bloodmoon Huntress gone from being released in March, to April, to June, and being an early summer release. I've also said before that if s3 ends with Rayla having the discovery/new motivation (re: de-coining her parents) I think she might, Bloodmoon Huntress would be a perfect way to dip in between s4 and s4.
We suddenly have six months with nothing - an easy way to slide in a Feb or March or even April release date and still have some leeway - so. It makes me hopeful, or that we’re getting some kind of Big Thing. Now, Tales of Xadia is also expected to drop in the first half of 2022, it could just be that. But I don’t think so, given that it and Bloodmoon Huntress were already planned to be coming out at the same time regardless. So... fingers crossed that my original dream of an an earlyish s4 release date in 2022 back before we got the (original) graphic novel date schedule, is going to happen?
I don’t know. I have a good feeling about it.

Hey Dragon Fans! Let’s do a round up of all the information we’ve gotten so far about The Dragon Prince! This is quite a lot of info, so I’ll be throwing the bulk of it under a cut. (There will be spoilers for episode 1 of the show below the cut.)
The Dragon Prince, developed by Wonderstorm Inc., animated by Bardel Entertainment, and distributed by Netflix will be releasing all the episodes of the first season on September 14, 2018.
The official summary is, “Two human princes forge an unlikely bond with the elven assassin sent to kill them, embarking on an epic quest to bring peace to their warring lands.”
You can watch the promotional trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7Bf7JLnlOU
Promotional taglines used by the official accounts have been “Destiny is a book you write yourself!” and “dragon big”.
Netflix currently has the show rated as TV-Y7 for Fantasy Violence. The animation is cell-shaded CG, much like what you see in Fire Emblem, Guilty Gear, or Avatar: The Lost Episodes.
The show will have an accompanying video game developed by Wonderstorm* with the story tellers for both show and game working closely together to ensure the stories being told are well integrated and complementary.
Tumblr media
Our lead characters for the Netflix series are Callum, the elder human prince, Ezran, the human crown prince, and Rayla, a Moonshadow Elven Assassin.
The universe The Dragon Prince takes place in is divided into two primary areas, Xadia, the magical lands in the East, and the five great human kingdoms in the West. Centuries ago, Thunder the King of Dragons guarded the border between Xadia and the Human Kingdoms.
In the TDP universe, there were originally six types of magic: moon, sun, stars, earth, ocean, and sky. Humans developed a seventh type of magic, Dark Magic. With Dark Magic you find a creature that has that magic as part of their essence, you consume it quickly, and it unleashes a great amount of magic quickly. Dark Magic became a shortcut to great, fast power, but led to corruption and was wielded at the expense of the varied, intelligent, and powerful magical creatures of Xadia. The dragons and the elves allied to try to put a stop to the humans’ use of Dark Magic, but the Dragon King Thunder was killed by humans using dark magic and Thunder’s only egg and heir, The Dragon Prince, was destroyed. Now the world stands on the edge of all out war...
The first episode is titled “Book 1: Moon, Episode 1: Echoes of Thunder” and was premiered at the SDCC 2018 panel. You can read IGN’s review of the episode here.
SPOILERS FOR EPISODE ONE BEGIN HERE
Ezran is scared of thunderstorms and likes to steal treats from the baker with his pet glow toad, Bait. Glow toads are described as “the Grumpy Cat of magical illusionary amphibians.”
Even though Callum is older he is not the crown prince because he is the stepson of the king. This means Callum and Ezran are half brothers. The condition and whereabouts of Callum and Ezran’s mother is reported to be a spoiler. The King is a black man, and it appears that Ezran may be biracial.
One of the royal guards Sorin/Soren/Zoren (spelling unknown) is tasked with training Callum in sword fighting. Callum is disinterested and prefers to draw, unless Soren’s sister, Claudia, is around. Callum appears to have a crush on Claudia, and Soren helps by going easy on him in sparring sessions in front of her. Claudia appears to be very studious and nearly runs into a tree while reading because she is too focused on her book. Claudia and Soren’s father is a highly placed lord and leader of the royal army/guard.
It looks like Callum will be learning to use magic over the course of the show. What type of magic he uses is currently unknown. Based on the trailer I think that may be Claudia also shown using magic. Regardless of her identity, I suspect what the dark haired female magic user in the trailer is using is the Dark Magic we’ve seen discussed.
The elves that Rayla is a member of are called Moonshadow Elves (white haired elves with dark horns) and they literally draw power from the moon. They are at thier strongest during the full moon. The bracelet Rayla wears was acquired during a ceremony swearing loyalty to the Dragon King’s cause/memory(?). Moonshadow Elves demonstrate at minimum some form of cloaking magic, but can still be detected by certain types of animals. Rayla has a Scottish accent.
Rayla is going to be something of a mysterious figure and strongly conflicted about her role in current events, “testing her sense of right and wrong.” She tries to tell herself that “an assassin does not decide right or wrong, only life and death.”*
When the Moonshadow Elves stage an attack on the castle, the King decides to send Callum and Ezran away for thier own safety. Meanwhile, Soren and Claudia are ordered by thier father to stop the assassins. Callum wants to help but is told he cannot because he is only 14 (and 3/4!) years old and he must be 15 to fight.
There was a black-haired guard in the first episode (the one attacked by Rayla) that had not been formally named, but when asked by the panel audience they named him Marcos.
END OF  SPOILERS FOR EPISODE ONE
During the Q&A session (I’ve discussed this with several people who were in the room now trying to get clarity) it sounds like the question of if there would be LGBT+ representation in the show was very narrowly sidestepped. They told the panel audience that any sort of answer would be a spoiler. It seems likely that there will be LGBT+ representation, but it has not been explicitly promised, and I urge folk to temper expectations with the knowledge that while it’s wrong to use the TV-Y7 rating as a reason to not show canonically LGBT+ characters, it may end up being outside the Wonderstorm team’s hands to try to get it on screen. I’m cautiously optimistic. We’ll have to wait and see.
The staff did say they are strongly dedicated to creating an inclusive and diverse fantasy universe, with an especial focus on visible ethnic diversity. We can already see the beginning of that with the King and Ezran.
Being on Netflix permits the staff to do a darker take on the story than they might have been permitted on network television, and they’re excited to get to tell a complex and nuanced story that explores moral grays and the idea that there are both good and bad actors in every group and culture. That said, they want this series to be fun, light-hearted, and quirky too.
The SDCC panel gave away two goodies to anyone lucky enough to get into the panel, a large physical poster version of the concept art we first saw with the initial announcement and an enamel pin of Ezran’s pet glow toad, Bait. The backing for the enamel pin announced that Hot Topic will be carrying exclusive merchandise for The Dragon Prince beginning in September 2018.
(A big thank you to elventhespian, owldee, and kohisu for thier live blogs of the SDCC 2018 panel.)

Destination: Patagonia: Chile & Argentina
The final instillation of my South American blogging ends with Patagonia. Adventuring to Patagonia is certainly a trek and while there are many ways to get there & do it, I’ll share with you my path. From Santiago, Chile, I hopped on a 3.5 hour flight way south to Punta Arenas, also known as the gateway to Antarctica. I spent one night in quiet Punta Arenas and hopped on a bus to Puerto Natales to plan some serious hiking. Patagonia is refreshingly rustic but with that booking travel and (camping) accommodations online before you get there can be challenging. I suggest getting to Puerto Natales quickly to book your things in person if you have trouble booking online like I did. I planned to spend 2 weeks in Patagonia, so I got to Puerto Natales and hustled to book refugios for the W circuit in Torres del Paine. I then had a week to kill before hiking TDP so I booked buses to Argentina to explore El Calafate and El Chalten. Bus, refugio and other helpful info will be listed later on in this post. Long story short I spent 2 nights in El Calafate to see Perito Moreno then headed to El Chalten for 4 days. The vibe in El Chalten is so unique and laid back I wish I could have stayed longer. After my time in El Chalten I bused back thru El Calafate and back to Puerto Natales and embarked on 4 days/3 nights in Torres del Paine. I then headed back to Punta Arenas and flew to Santiago where I spent a couple nights before flying 26 hours back to Seattle.
Highlights: - Torres Del Paine: Hiking the “W”  - Perito Moreno - Hiking in El Chalten: my favorite hike was Laguna Torre followed by the grueling but insanely beautiful Laguna de los Tres. The epic Fitz Roy can be seen from both hikes along with numerous other waterfalls, birds, berries and glaciers. - La Walferia in El Chalten just about took my breath away. You definitely deserve these waffles before and after your hiking! - La Tapera hosted my favorite dinner in my entire 2 months in South America. The Steak and Malbec were exceptional. The atmosphere was so warm and service friendly, do not skip this place!
Where to stay: Punta Arenas: Hospedaje Costanera is a cozy house shared with other coming from and going to adventures in Patagonia. Expect shared bathrooms and simple free breakfast. They have wifi and a printer which is handy to print off any tickets or reservations you may need for your adventures in Patagonia as Wifi is VERY hard to come by.
Puerto Natales: El Patagonico Hostal WOW simply the best hostel experience. Most comfortable beds in South America and perfect location in the heart of town. Solid communal kitchen and incredible knowledgeable staff that helped me plan my last minute Torres Del Paine trek AND helped me figure out some of my plans for Argentina. They also rented me all my gear for my trek; sleeping bag, camp stove, butane, utensils, sleeping pad even waterproof pants. I stayed here on two separate occasions actually and could not recommend this place more.
El Calafate: I stayed in an Airbnb here, it was ok but not worth a mention. I was scrambling last minute to book things and hostels were full and $90/night, so plan accordingly..
El Chalten: Condor de los Andes was a lovely stay. We had a big room with a hot shower, close to the bus station, cheap beers, not sure what more you could ask for. It was fun to chill in the communal spaces with beers and maps talking with other hikers and plotting tomorrows hike.
How to book:
Refugios in TDP: there are 3 companies that you can book your stay in Torres del Paine through:
-Fantastico Sur -Vertice -Conaf (free camping, books out months in advance)
There is no one right way to hike the W or to explore the park in any way for that manner. (The O hike must be done counter clockwise). Due to the new strict reservation requirements staying flexible and being creative will help you get the most out of the park.
⁃   My ‘W’ trek: Paine Grande> Refugio Gray> Chilano
Here’s some helpful insight on buses in Patagonia.. I’ll also post the company names linked to their sites.
-Bus Sur -Bus Zaajh -Cootra
⁃       Expect some bus and camping websites to be broken and/or non existent. you must visit their offices in person to book with them (nope, you can’t call them either).
⁃       Bus schedules and frequencies depend on the time of year. In low season buses do not run everyday so check when buses run before booking accommodation.
⁃       In high season buses fill up 2 or 3 days in advance so book as soon as possible to make the most of your time.
Tips:
⁃       January & February is considered high season. The rustic Patagonian infrastructure can hardly handle the hoards of tourist coming to this increasingly popular destination. Book busses and accommodation as early as possible. While I did get away with some bookings made 3 days before for some bus and hostel reservations due to luck, I also missed out on ideal busses and had to be flexible with our plans.
⁃       Chile is expensive, whoa! Grabbing a burger and a beer will easily set you back $20. Not to mention all the busses and catamaran tickets. Take advantage of your hostels kitchen or camping stove an cook some meals for yourself. I’m also sad to report I didn’t find much street food so cheap your way out of this problem either.
⁃       Since the reservation system is a new requirement for Torres del Paine this year, Fantastico Sur and Vertice struggle to fix broken websites. Hopefully as they get use to this new system their technology will advance and customer satisfaction improve. Again, calling them was also impossible, but showing up to their office in person I was met with very accommodating customer service and hey helped me throw together a special time in Patagonia.
Cheers! Happy adventuring :)

raayllum · 4 years
Note
Random question but I've been thinking about this & wanted to ask someyhing from one rayllum fan to another. Do you think rayllum will stay Canon to the end? Because with rayllum happening early in the series along with 4 potential seasons left on the way, anything is possible & honestly I'm worried the ship will not last because anything could change. Any thoughts?
i wrote this post after s2 and a lil over a year plus ago but it still holds up and with s3 making rayllum canon, we have new info and stuff to go over. so i guess here are the five main reasons why i’m not worried about rayllum breaking up?
1) like the post said, it is narratively harder for rayla and callum to want to be a couple / spend their lives together and forces them to confront obstacles they just wouldn’t in friendship. if they went back to being friends, it would presumably mean that rayla lives in xadia and callum lives in katolis, and take away from that representation of elf-humanity in the new/younger generation that’s distinct from say, ezran’s relationship with rayla that is rooted in friendship, or janai and amaya’s romance that handles that theme in the ‘older’ generation.
2) established rayllum in s3 of getting to see them actually be a couple seems very purposeful to me, particularly in light of there being a timeskip between s3 and s4. what i, and many fans, were expecting was for rayllum to become canon sometime within the last two episodes of the season, or even in their last scene together of the season, not halfway through. the fact that we saw so many milestones besides their first kiss - making important decisions together, casual affection, their first “i love you” - the latter of which could have been a milestone after a timeskip of one year makes me think their relationship will continue to deepen. to like, an engagement plotline, if the timeskip is three years.
3) on that note, the international dubs for TDP, for Japanese and Latin / Spanish has Callum using the form of “I love you” that you say to your soulmate and the type of “I love you” (“te amo”) that you use as like, a promise of forever, respectively. [sourced here]
4) the cast/crew has gone on record saying that rayllum wasn’t planned from the start and it was conceptualized as more of a romantic bond during the storyboarding process of 2x04 with the lightning strike. whether amendments were made to help with this new route in s1, or whether the relationship was conceived before or after they realized ezran would turn back to go rule at the end of s2 is unknown. however, i do think that ezran going home to xadia opened the floor simultaneously for a strong rayllum romance in s3, as both were technically unplanned. these were all changes the story made early on, though - not semi mid production.
there is also how the cast and crew talk about rayllum now. tdp’s composer has called rayla “the love of [callum’s] life.” two writers for the show, including tdp’s head writer, devon giehl, have stated that callum would try to emulate how he saw his stepfather treat his mother in his relationship with rayla, and a possible date they would have in the “years post-dragon prince season three.” [sourced here]
i’m not saying, of course, that the story couldn’t change the original plans of s4 onwards to accommodate a rayllum breakup; the (far more likely) alternative is that plans s4 onwards have made room for their relationship, as a romance and a bond, to continue to grow (like a possible engagement plotline, for example). but everything thus far from official videos to interviews has indicated these two kids are going to be together for a long, long time, if not for life.
5) he jumped off a mountain for her.
so yeah, i am not worried, at all.
