okay, my brain went really hard on the super realistic dream scenarios turning super unrealistic during the latest nap.
helping my parents pack all the things they need for their courthouse appointment tomorrow, running back inside and getting the last documents while they fight and bicker over something unimportant outside. but then seeing our house's interior has transformed into a fancy turn of the century townhouse, with beautiful art nouveau ironwork and woodwork and windows and such, also a huge magazine rack with a bunch of magazines, even some I used to read when I was a little kid (like Diddl's Käseblatt and several Winx Club magazines)
visiting and staying at a fancy hotel, using the elevator, making sure a very much overly confident almost to the point of being cheeky little kid knows their way around and doesn't get lost while getting ice cream at the ground floor bar
then, outside, running into a huge biker gang who are helping American race car drivers fix some things on their cars before going off on an otherwise abandoned stretch of Autobahn, speeding off into the horizon. me then hopping onto one of the biker's vehicles and zooming around a fantastical landscape that's transforming from the previously mentioned Autobahn right before my eyes, like in a video game.

Some tributes to two of my favorite film posters.
I even came up with some short back stories based on the original plots.
So in I Care A Lot, I scam upcoming artists into fake record deals, fake PR campaigns and etc. But I mean well I guess lol. Then in NORMVL Animals, I plot a heist to steal from SAMRO. Done.
Beautiful posters by the people over at Empire Design.

One of my favorite fun historical through lines is that the original co-illustrator for Dick and Jane who also co-created the branding for Elmers Glue is also very likely the indirect but influential progenitor of a great majority of furry art and culture. and he doesn't even have a wikipedia page. The story is as follows:
A team of designers create Elsie the cow as the mascot of the Borden dairy company, later giving her a husband named Elmer in branding. Elsie was extraordinarily popular and was portrayed in tons of print advertising and even licensed media. The most well-remembered and beloved of these advertisements were done by a popularly unknown and uncredited illustrator named Keith Ward together with a great deal of other commercial illustrations
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Ward's early work in commercial illustration: children's books and advertising)
The scale of ward's contribution to Elsie and Elmer is somewhat murky, particularly since most credits go to the contributors with greater status at Borden. Personally, I see it as largely a collaboration between Ward and several unknown others under art director David William Reid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Ward's work vs Reid's work)
Elsie eventually fell out of popular consciousness after rebranding, but Elmer lives on as the mascot of Elmer's glue, originally a subsidiary of Borden as glue could be produced as a byproduct of industrial dairy. Modern Elmer's glue is synthetic, but retains the iconic mascot and design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Elmer's evolution from a more Ward-like design its current iteration)
Ward would later go on to illustrate for an American adaptation of Reynard the Fox by Harry J. Owens, again, miraculously uncredited on the cover. His name appears once, on the title page, and the lavish biography on the back of my copy fails to even mention the illustrations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Ward's work for the Scandalous Adventures of Reynard the Fox)
These works are particularly notable as much later, Ken Anderson of Disney was working on conceptualizing a Disney adaptation of Reynard, which is a very interesting and messy story for another time. In short, he and his team drew many inspirations from many many places, but with Ward being relatively more known and respected in the industry and having worked on a Reynard book in a similar style to what Disney wanted, his work was one of the most influential on the development of the film. The Reynard part was eventually scrapped (those who are familiar with the story and character will not be surprised), but a lot of the designs and even layouts were reused for Robin Hood. If you've ever wondered why they made him a fox, that's why.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Bill Peet's and Ken Anderson's Reynards bear a striking resemblance to Ward's)
There's a lot more to the inspiration than just the designs, many plot points and layouts from Reynard, and their depictions by Ward, remain in Robin Hood (they unfortunately do not fit in this post). Its likely that finding such a clear starting point for their film in Ward's book had a hand in salvaging the Disney Reynard project and leading to the complete, although troubled, completion and release of Robin Hood.
And the rest is furstory! While there are certainly many other Disney animal features that have made their mark on the fandom, Robin Hood's influence is particularly notable for being the most popular of the most anthropomorphic animal-focused animations in contrast to the commercial underdogs of the Great Mouse Detective and many of Don Bluth's films, and more conventionally presented talking animals like those of the Aristocats and the Jungle Book. Isn't that interesting!

I Miss The Case Study of Vanitas Because Sex
Tumblr media
Okay, please forgive me for the clickbait-y title, but I just had to take it. The whiplash is too fun to me. Anyways, yes, I miss The Case Study of Vanitas (both as an anime and manga, since we've not gotten vol 10 in English yet) because of sex. Not the act in and of itself, but the appeal, the tension, the experience. Animanga isn't nearly as sexless as North American media, but it presents its own unique challenges and issues. So, if you don't mind, please humor my little foray into an attempt to explain the decoupling of fan service and sex appeal, with The Case Study of Vanitas as a medium.
⚠️Warning: I've done my best to keep it spoiler free, but by nature there is mild spoilers in regards to characters and certain interactions.⚠️
Is The Case Study of Vanitas about sex? Well, obviously not, no, it's about vampires. But as much as it's about vampires, it's also about despair, hope, penance and revenge, and the intricacies of the human condition. It just happens to feature vampires as the selling point. And I believe therein lies the best explanation of Vanitas: it's not about sex, but rather contains those aspects as a part of the people that exist in its world.
Fanservice has become a rather perverted term. Rather than appealing to a broad range of applications, fanservice tends to exclusively apply to displays that are sexual in nature (most typically in regards to catering to male audiences). In that way it's not particularly awful in how the term itself has shifted, but the use of fanservice is borderline pathetic in most series. A gaudy display of body parts, it hangs on excessive scale and movement to catch the eyes of touch starved individuals. I don't need a ballooned bosom besetting my vision before bobbing about in a baroque display for all too long. That's not the point.
But what is the point? Well, I've prattled on long enough so here's an example.
Tumblr media
A look in the eyes, the right lighting. Even simple posing. Sex appeal is not limited to explicit displays of sexuality, but is rather the personification of both the character's intent as well as their external perception.
There are so many moments in this series that are in no way explicitly sexual, but can easily be perceived to have sex appeal or sexual tension.
But then, how would that appeal not feel weakened? It's a good question, honestly, and an important one to ask. When you display the chest of an underaged girl enough times, it won't elate the audience enough to be perceived as "good". It's a universal issue with storytelling, so how does Vanitas get around it?
My answer (and perhaps not the only answer) is how this appeal and tension is derived. I had sort of said it earlier, but didn't really explain. Its source is the very nature of the characters and world. It is not an external force exposing these facets, but the machinations of the plot and its pieces themselves.
Have a look at this example here. Vampires are hot, right? Their power, broody nature, and the concept of the unknown have played into their eroticism and appeal since time immemorial (seriously, look up Carmilla). Vanitas pounces on that concept and immediately plays into it. We don't get blood sucking every episode and every second, no. But we get it enough to provide variation, it appears at the right time to provide another layer to the nature of the story and characters.
Anyways, the example. Lord Ruthven and Noe. Two vampires, engaging in something strictly non-sexual. He is simply biting Noe. But the posing, the nature of the layout. It presents tension. It presents Ruthven's ownership and commanding nature of Noe in this moment. Domination and subjugation.
Tumblr media
Even more is this sequence. The commanding nature that presents a clear power dynamic. The phrasing. It absolutely exudes sexual tension. But nothing of the sort is apparent in the actual interaction.
Tumblr media
So what's the deal here. I know I had spoken on how characters themselves can convey tension and appeal without explicit intent to do so, but how can circumstance and interaction play into it as well?
Another lovely question. What comprises the act of sex? What are the pieces that elate, entice, and encourage someone? Well, aside from the answer that it's down to the individual, there's a few core pieces. The "top and bottom" dynamic is certainly the one that appears the most when dealing with pairs. Another, while a bit unseemly and slightly (?) taboo is the concept of fear and violence. Of course, I don't mean in any serious context, but the concept is how those things make you feel, and that they stem from that similar power dynamic. Perhaps that's the best word to describe it with: power dynamic. It's all about how two characters interact with each other, where they stand in relation to one another. The above image is the perfect example of that, and the following is how to build on it.
Vanitas and Jeanne, an incredible combination born not out of a mutual desire for the other, but the sheer interest of one and the needs of another. It's a one sided love spurred on by the actions of one that encourages the other to let loose. It creates the interesting dynamic of a power bottom that remains refreshing alongside the other relationships that exist in the story.
So here's a clip of that dynamic.
The way the camera and characters hang on each moment, the way the layouts aim to both obstruct but also apply razor focus. The voice acting. All of it, every single moments provides for that tension and appeal, and it extends past the act of sucking blood and into the souls of the characters themselves. A terrible plead that spills from blood stained lips, a promise that comes from the origin of that crimson.
This "sex appeal" and "sexual tension" is not something manufactured, but the absolute core of these characters. The act of domination, the incredible an undesired need of a substance, the mental fractures eroding at the ego of a person. All of these moments stem from the very souls of the characters and bubble up to the surface in these forms of expression. Where words will not do, actions speak in their place.
Also, Vanitas moaning. Yes please. The greatest benefit to this series is the fact that it's willing to lean into the men as well. This is not "just" for the guys (and lesbians), no. This is for everyone, but especially those that enjoy a side of insanity and toxicity to their romance.
So that brings us to the end. Vanitas is not "about" sex, Vanitas is sex and is the purest way to deliver on fan service while providing sexual tension and appeal. It's subtle, subdued, infrequent and benign. It does not bend to the desires of the viewer, but rather stems from those of the characters. And so many series need to take note. "Lucky Lecher" and perversely excessive displays have no home in my heart when there are far more artistic and desirable sequences that can be produced.

Second, do you have any good fantasy RPGs set in a non-european focused or at least not medieval-European world? It can be based off of a real-world culture or something brand new
THEME: Non-Western Fantasy
Hello friend! For this recommendation, I wanted to highlight games made about non-western fantasy by authors who hail from the cultures that inspire the games. For that purpose I really want to shout-out to rpgsea and rpglatam, two community/movements that have made it much easier for creators from Southeast Asian and Latin American cultures to advertise and publish their games. Not all of my recommendations come from these communities, but they’re a great jumping-off point to find more games with unique settings, fresh ideas, and beautiful, beautiful art.

Nahual, by Miguel Angel Espinoza.
Nahual is a tabletop roleplaying game about brjos nahuales, humans of mestizo and indigenous ancestry that have the power to shapeshifter into an animal form. These nahuales hunt angels to make a living, running a changarro - a business - together to sell the products they make from the bodies of the angels they have killed. These are stories about underdogs, struggling to find their place in a Mexican world of fantastical and overwhelming forces.
Miguel Ángel Espinoza is a Mexican layout artist and game designer, and the head of Smoking Mirror Games. His ttrpg Nahual really picked up steam on Kickstarter, unlocking stretch goal after stretch goal. At its core, this game is PbtA game about underdogs going up against celestial parasites. Angel Dust is a potent drug, and angels are used by corporations, politicians, and the Church to lure in worshipers and make money. You play the labourers at the bottom of this pyramid, aching for freedom but trapped inside a concrete jungle. Your biggest asset? The special gifts you’ve inherited from your ancestors, watered down as you’ve lost your cultural memories.
This game is more urban fantasy than anything else on this list, but if you want to explore a game about reclaiming something that you’ve almost lost, you should definitely check out Nahual.
ARC, by momatoes.
Ready Yourself. For Tonight, we save the world.
The RPG to slay the apocalypse. Capture your imagination with near-inescapable dooms that threaten infinite worlds. Be a hero or be the guide to facilitate a heart-racing story to remember.
ARC enables people wishing to run a game with limited experience. The Doom and its Omens help create tension and manage the story’s pacing. The rules are approachable so you can focus on helping make the best story for the table. Additionally, the last chapter of the full book is filled with tips for building a good experience for you and your friends.
The creator, Momatoes (aka Bianca Canoza), is from the Philippines, and is the custodian of RPGSEA, as well as a Winner of the Diana Jones Emerging Designer Award. Her game, ARC doesn’t have a lot of setting decided for you - instead, you decide elements of the setting yourself. There's even a license for creators who want to publish their own content! The biggest selling point of ARC is the Doom, a terrible event that the Heroes want to prevent at any cost. The GM will set up Omens, which are pieces of the story that advance the Doom - pieces the characters will need to investigate and interact with in order to resolve. Finally, the Doomsday clock is a tool that can be used to keep the sessions tight and focused: every moment on the Doomsday clock has the GM roll 1d6 per unresolved moment - the higher the roll, the closer you tick towards catastrophe! If you want a beginner-friendly game that allows maximum creativity, you should definitely check out ARC.
Arunika, by Anonymocha.
Darkness and gloom threaten to shroud the entirety of this world you call home. Or perhaps, it already had. However, there's hope.
You are a Light Bearer. This beacon of light you hold is the key to reviving the world's gleam and hope, through your own. You are bestowed with the pursuit of rekindling the world, forging bonds with its inhabitants along the path, and freeing it from the murk with what you can offer.
Arunika is a TTRPG of maintaining hope, sharing it with the world, and most importantly, caring for yourself while you're at it.
The rulebook reflects a world's journey towards revival from the characters who escalate it. It is made with the vision of a game that has a non-violent, narrative-first, and feelings-focused system which can be interpreted in many optimistic, creative, whimsical, melancholic, or introspective ways.
Mocha, the creator, is an Indonesian artist with a beautiful and unique art style, visible in the projects they create and contribute to. One person plays the Light Bearer, a character who holds the Light, a beacon that needs to be used to rekindle the world. Other players can play the Companions, friends and old foes that accompany the Light Bearer on their journey. This game can be run with just a GM and one player, with all of the Companions as NPCs. The stats of your character will fill or deplete depending on the events of the game, so Heart will increase when the party has a positive interaction, while Hurt will increase from suffering harm, or decrease when your character is comforted. If you want a game that is easy on the eyes, gives you the basic premise and lets you build your own world, you should check out Arunika.
Hearts of Wulin, by Lowell Francis and Agatha Cheng.
Hearts of Wulin is a game of wuxia melodrama, Powered by the Apocalypse. Players take the role of skilled martial artists in a world of rival clans, conspiracies, and obligations. The game emulates films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Chinese wuxia TV series like The Smiling Proud Wanderer and Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain, and Chinese martial arts novels from the second half of the twentieth century. In these tales, romance is as dangerous as a blade. Everyone has ties to factions, loves they can’t quite express, and secrets which will shake them to their core. As in the source material, stories in Hearts of Wulin are driven by the characters’ duties, romantic desires, and entanglements with other characters.
You get everything you need to play the game in three different styles: Core, Courtly, and Fantastic. The core game is as described above: a game of wuxia melodrama featuring wandering wulin warriors. The courtly style of play sets the game in a world of politics and factional scheming. The fantastic game adds strong elements of the superrnatural to the story. Each style of play has its own playbooks and moves—it's like having three games in one!
Agatha Cheng is a cultural consultant and a podcast host, on top of being a co-author of this wuxia-inspired game, in a genre she’s loved since childhood. Hearts of Wulin is an homage to melodramatic stories about protagonists, torn between equally treasured relationships. You may be in love with your teacher’s greatest rival, or perhaps your master and your father despise each-other. The PbtA system that Hearts is built on prioritizes emotional conflict and failure that moves the story forward, while slimming down the mechanics to simple 2d6 dice rolls. If what you’re looking for is story beats that rip your heart up and make you feel all of the feelings, you should check out this game.
Gubat Banwa, by makapatag.
Gubat Banwa is a game of rapid kinetic martial arts, violent sorcery, heartrending convictions and bouts of will. Warriors that channel gods face sorcerers that master black arts, martial artists who have unlocked a new form of cultivation clash swords with those that perfect the night alchemies.
Gubat Banwa is a  Southeast Asian fantasy martial arts Role-Playing Game, inspired by the refulgent cultures of Southeast Asia. Raise your spears, KADUNGGANAN, you elite warrior-braves and asura-knights who travel The Sword Isles to prove their conviction and dictate the fate of the world. Revel in larger-than-life war drama like in Asian Dramas, ballistic tactical martial arts grid gameplay in the vein of Lancer or Final Fantasy Tactics, and find glory beyond heaven. Wield the Thunderbolt of Liberation! Rejoice! In the Glory of Combat!
Makapatag, or Waks, is a Filipino creature who loves creating tactical ttrpgs. All of their games have strong Southeast Asian inspiration, but Gubat Banwa is what you’re looking for if you want good old fantasy. Rules-wise, the author credits Lancer, Pathfinder 2e, ICON, Ryuutama, Apocalypse World, and so many more iconic, well-loved games for their inspiration. This game is made to specifically centre Southeast Asian cultures, and the setting is not solely based in a specific historical setting, but is rather inspired by many cultures and stories of these cultures. I strongly recommend you read the Note On Intended Audience on page 4 if you get this book.
And what a book it is. 400 pages, with maps, roll-tables, an extensive dive into the lore and terms created for this book, and pages and pages of gorgeous gorgeous art. Character creation is heavily involved, incorporating the culture you hail from, the ideal you’re fighting for, major life events and debts, as well as different Disciplines, combat arts that each have their own styles, weapons, and techniques. Fighting in this game is not just a matter of survival - it is a science. If you want a game that gives you in-depth characters and hours and hours of material in a world in which every piece of lore has been carefully thought out, I heavily recommend Gubat Banwa.
Mangayaw, by goobernuts.
Mangayaw is an RPG for one facilitator (the Mangaawit) and at least one other player. Players act as Binmanwa, adventurers and survivors in an archipelago of bloodshed and goldlust. This game is inspired by Philippine legend, folklore, culture and history. The game and its setting is still a work-in-progress. Based on and inspired by Cairn, Into the Odd, Mausritter and numerous other games.
Benj, the creator, is a member of RPGsea, and draws heavily from Philippine folklore and history for this game. This is absolutely for OSR fans, with delay fast combat, class-less and level-less characters, and a ton of equipment and magic items inspired by Philippines folklore.
Whereas many OSR games present the rules with the assumption that the GM knows what they’re doing, Mangayaw contains a page of principles for the Mangaawit, outlining narrative focus, the purpose of danger and treasure, and advice on how to present the characters with choices, NPC motivations, and the benefits of random generation. It also contains principles for the players, and principles of the World, providing guidance for folks who may be unfamiliar with the culture that inspires this setting. There’s suggestions for names, descriptions of unique items, and tables for magic and sorcery. If you love roll tables, you’ll love Mangayaw.
Brave Zenith, by Roll 4 Tarrasque.
Brave Zenith is a post-fantasy tabletop RPG, set in a world inspired by Brazilian culture and long summer nights playing JRPGs on a pirated PS1. With a set of simple interpretative rules, that focus on player creativity and imagination, explore the ruined world of pastpresent, meet colourful (and deadly) creatures, see the sights of the Second City, partake in delicious Monkey Oil and become an adventurer.
Roll 4 Tarrasque is a team of Latinx creators whose efforts won Game of the Year for 2022 at the Indie Groundbreaker Awards with this game. Brave Zenith is a game about fantasy odd-jobs, rather than epic quests - your characters are cleaning up houses, hunting ghosts, stealing from the rich, etc. The people and creatures of the world are unique and enchanting, from the friendly Jelly shopkeeper to the slippery butter construct, to little porcini goblins.
Characters have 3 stats, gain abilities based off of their occupations. There are three suggested origins to help you determine what your character looks like, but you’re also welcome to create your own! There are typical hallmarks of dungeon delving here, such as loot tables, monsters to fight, and spells to cast. For the GMs, there’s a chapter full of advice on how to prepare for a session, quick NPC generation, and tables to help you write an adventure on the fly. Finally, the rulebook itself is bright, colourful, and fun - perfect for communicating the kinds of games it’s designed to run!
Lutong Banwa by Sinta Posadas (Diwata ng Manila).
We, the Tamawo, we have no concept of hunger, food, or of a nuclear family. We wandered aimlessly for a long time. Then, we met a Giant Grab. She took us in like her own children. Clothed and sheltered us like we were her kind. We call her Mama Kasag. She showed us more about the people that came before us. The ones she calls “Humans”.
Lutong Banwa is a cooking game, where you set out to adventure and find ingredients from Spirits and recipes from old civilizations. Embark on this anti-canon storygame adventure with its own custom system and play to find out just what sort of zany adventures you can get up to in this weird, wild world. Do whatever you want.
Sin is a Filipino game designer who loves designing games that incorporate magic realism. Lutong Banwa is no different. You play Tamawo, who have bodies that appear similar to humans, but live in an age in which humans are long gone. Humans are strange beings of a past age, with unfamiliar customs, such as cooking. You’ve picked up cooking as something to explore, and thus go out on errands to find new ingredients for Mama Kasag. This game is charming and small, quick to learn and easy to play. It even includes recipes to get you in the cooking mood! If you like cozy games with low stakes and a charming setting, you should absolutely check out this game.
A Thousand Thousand Islands.
This is not a game, but rather, a collection of system-agnostic zines for use in fantasy tabletop games. This collection is designed by a trio of Malaysian designers, and contains places such as Mr-Kr-Gr, a river kingdom ruled by crocodiles, Korvu, a maritime nation of tenant mercenaries, and Ngelalangka, a market inspired by Southeast Asian bazaars. If you have a game system that you’re already comfortable with and you want to explore fantastical places within that system, I heavily encourage you to check out these zines.

Things I like
-Most birds are active and in good spirits
-no beak mutilation
-bedding in the indoor area looks clean and cozy and good for dust batheing
-plenty of natural safe enrichment. You don't want very tall perches for battery hens they could break a bone.
-Communal roosting
-cockerels used for meat rather than culled at a day old
-use of solar for energy
-when the birdflu isn't a threat they have outdoor pastures the birds can access anytime during foraging time.
-natural daylight
Things I don't like
-birds seem dirty due to communal roosting situation, they are getting pooped on basically. Changing the layout to a almost look like stairs would probably help.
-some birds still show evidence of feather picking, obviously not as bad as American battery farms but always room for improvement. They didn't have as much evidence of this when they could go outside but unfortunately they can't right now for their own safety.
-their feed regime might contribute to the feather picking behavior and poor feather quality if they are truly only using byproducts in their feed. Wheat, soy, and corn byproducts are harder on a chickens gut microbiome than better ingredients.
Things to note-
-Leghorns are more prone to neurotic behaviors than other breeds (this can happen when you take a flighty land race and turn it into a production animal) if they had a different production breed they might see less feather picking. I think they chose pure production leghorns on purpose for sustainability reasons so can't fault them for that.
Their feathers will likely always look a bit shit. White feathers are structurally weaker than pigmented ones and that goes pretty much for all birds.
The feathers you see on the ground are just molted not from plucking of anything like that.
What do you think fellow chicken keepers?

I know these have been requested already but I adore your 09 and cowboy Ghost/Roach/Soap art and would love to see more!! Also, do you have any cowboy/gunslinger headcanons for the three??
I, too, adore ’09 GhostRoachSoap AND cowboy/ranch life GhostRoachSoap so you absolutely WILL see more of them, I promise!!
As for ideas/hc for the cowboy au, it’s a lot more “ranch life” based than gunslingers so if you are into that, keep reading below the line!
If not, then you are more than welcome to skip over this :}
Disclaimer: Most of my ideas are a bit scattered so I apologize for the messy layout, I’ll try my best to keep it coherent. Also, this is not all of them I don’t want this to be overly long
Background:
The AU takes place in Roach’s family ranch where all three members have been discharged from duty.
In this AU, because I like happiness, there is no war over the horizon and is simply a group of people living their lives out on the rolling plains of either Texas or Tennessee— I’m leaning more towards Texas just because I know more about the agriculture of the Texas plains.
In this AU, the 141 & Co simply live their lives from either being retired/discharged/etc. While everyone is involved (except for Shepherd, eat shit and die Shepherd), they all do their own thing but primary attention is mainly on GhostRoachSoap
Roach (+ extended background):
Roach and his other 5 siblings have the ranch under their and their parent’s name. He and two of his siblings, the youngest and the second oldest, are more active in taking care of the ranch's needs now that their parents are well into their ages. The other three help ever so often with more minor things but they have their own families to tend to and his parents don't actually live in the ranch anymore (again, due to age) and live closer to the city.
Roach, however, is the main caretaker for the ranch. He spends the most time on the land and is often alone, that was until Ghost and Soap came
Headcanons;
His accent left when he joined the army. Came back tenfold after a week on the ranch.
Has a collection of cowboy hats and each one serves a purpose (although his favorite is his very worn-out Cattleman that he leaves by the front door to take on his way out)
Expert horse rider. I'm not saying you would see this man at the Rodeo, but he’s had his fair share of bucking broncos, and not ONCE has he been bucked off.
Though there are horses on the ranch, his horse is Estella— a Chestnut American Quarter Horse with three white socks (forelegs + right hind leg) and a star + stripe. She loves to chew on people’s clothes if they turn their backs on her.
Has slept in the barn before (multiple times) and regrets it every time (wouldn’t recommend it, very lumpy and you WILL wake up with straw in places you don’t want it to be)
LOVES cattle work, and hates paperwork 💀 (he lets Ghost, and his two other siblings take care of it) due to this, he is good at reading the animals and knowing when something is wrong!
Are good friends with the vet! (It’s his ex 💀) (They broke amicably though so it’s okay!!) (“So, like, when I kiss you??…. it’s gross” “OH thank God, I thought it was only me")
Gets SOOO distracted when Soap is picking the hay bales. Bff short circuits for a good minute before Ella gets miffed at him and throws her head back
Cows > sheep (will make an exception for baby lambs tho)
Soap:
Along with Ghost, realistically both would not actually retire in some rural Texas town but because I can, let's say they decided to retire to some rural Texas town.
Soap is the most recent member to the farm and took to it like a duck to water. (We'll ignore the times he forgot to lock the chicken coop). He was on active duty but after a close call that was too close to comfort, he decided that maybe it was time to retire. Price is the one that mentioned the ranch to him, although at the time he did not know it was a ranch.
All Price told him was “if you are looking for something a little different, take a look here" and looking he went.
Headcanons:
Not on the friendliest terms with the cattle dogs but boy do they LOVE him (they’ve tried to herd him multiple times and have succeeded) (he cusses both Ghost and Roach out for watching and letting it happen)
Loves the nitty gritty work. Hay bales? Check. Cleaning the stables? On it. Shearing the sheep? The Clippers are all warmed up already. If there’s a job that involves getting his hands dirty, he is the first in line
Sheep > cows
His horse is a Buckskin American Quarter Horse that he very proudly named Buck. This name came after Roach told him the color of his coat but was reinforced when Soap tried riding him and was almost bucked off. They became the best of pals after that, and Buck occasionally tries to nibble Soap’s mohawk for fun.
His favorite chore is feeding the animals! He loves watching them all flock to their food and munch away. He doesn't find it much of a chore as it fills him with such joy to see all the creatures he cares for flourish.
Gagged the first, second, and third time he saw a sheep give birth. Man has seen a soldier’s leg come clean off from a bomb and recovered in less than 5 minutes but BIRTH? Get the bucket ready.
Ghost:
Discharged after a mission had gone wrong, Ghost had no idea where to go. With no family to go back to and no friends to crash with, civilian life was looking very bleak until Price came to him with a plane ticket and an address to some rural town in Texas.
Ranch life was… different for Ghost. It wasn’t bad per say, and he can’t really find much to complain about, but it was just different. It is... steadier? softer? he's not too sure but at least it lets him sleep easier at night.
It took him and Roach a while to find a rhythm. It wasn’t easy and it was very awkward at first but eventually they were able to settle on something unique for them that worked out.
Headcanons:
Sheep > cows
He likes to roam around with the LGDs. He greatly respects their jobs and has grown a soft spot for them. He knows he’s not supposed to distract them, but he just can’t help himself and always gives them a good belly rub.
Became good friends with the farrier. Farrier does most of the talking but Ghost will join in here and there. He really likes learning about the Farrier's different methods and likes to watch him work on the horses. (Lowkey thinking about making Jackson the farrier bc why not)
One of my favorite personal hc's about Ghost is that he is shit at naming things so yeah, he named his horse, Horse. Roach almost took his horse privileges away because of it but anyway, his horse is not an AQH like Roach/Soap but is instead one of the two draft horses the ranch has! His horse is Blue Roan Clydesdale with a very splotchy coat that loves peppermints and loves napping her days away (she’s had three kids alright she deserves it)
Genuinely enjoys doing the ranch paperwork. Sure, he has to ask Roach here and there where some of the stuff is at but honestly? Could spend hours reading and organizing the books and such. He's very interested in the topics discussed.
Earliest riser. His favorite time of the day is just before the sun peaks over the horizon where everything is blue and foggy, where condensation sits on his skin, when the crickets are still chirping, and when the mourning doves are softly cooing. Roach wakes up soon after him.

The Margay: Chapter 6
If You're Both Lying to Me, I Swear
prev / series masterlist / main masterlist
Summary: Santiago recruits Frankie to contract for a covert agency that pairs them with danger in more ways than one. A series of one-shot snippets taking place during and around missions.
Pairing: Frankie Morales x Sniper!OFC
Word Count: ~3.9K
Rating: Explicit 18+ / mirror sex, oral (m receiving), dirty talk, unprotected piv, biting, creampie, creampie eating, come swapping / tw for brief description of a sniper shot / Minors DNI
A/N: Audrey earns her call sign. Frankie takes advantage of the bathroom mirror.
Y'all this started as a cheeky little idea that dissolved into filth. These two have a mind of their own they just do this I am so sorry.
Their fifth job out is easy enough.
But their fifth job out comes with the most ridiculous story.
Recover a hard drive from a small compound in Belize. Drive contains sensitive information including the identities of covert American and Canadian operatives in the country, including a young recruit from Davis’ organization.
The mark is an avid hunter, shipped off to Kenya this morning, passport check, flight manifest, and an operative at the gate confirmed he’s gone.
The mark is also not particularly smart. Intel says he only left one guy guarding the house while he’s away—drive is in the basement.
And so Frankie and Santiago move in light at dusk, covering the mile on foot from where Audrey’s holding the high ground.
Breaching the compound is as easy as hopping over a wall. Santi attaches a small device to the nearest security camera while staying out of its line of sight and waits for Audrey's confirmation that she has control over the system.
Frankie picks the lock once they have the all-clear and the boys run one silent sweep through the house, guard noticeably absent, before they meet again in the office.
“Audrey, you’re not gonna believe this,” Santi’s voice finally crackles over comms.
“Try me, Pope.”
“Dude’s got a fuckin moose in here.”
“Bullshit.”
“Uhh, no,” Frankie chimes in, “theres’s a taxidermy moose in his office. The whole thing.”
“It’s fuckin’ huge,” Santiago whispers.
“If you’re both lying to me, I swear…”
Her phone buzzes and it’s a picture of Santi with his arm hiked up around the moose’s neck, preserved exotic game littering the wall and bookcase in the background.
She briefly considers having a serious conversation with Davis about having a souvenir shipped out.
“Pet his nose for me,” she tells them both.
Frankie sends a selfie, his massive hand dwarfed by the animal’s snout.
“Alright boys, you’ve made me sufficiently jealous. Keep moving.”
She tracks them through the windows with her rifle scope, occasionally switching to the FLIR heat sensor to check the perimeter.
They both fan out in opposite directions, searching for basement access before meeting in the office again.
“If there’s a basement, we haven’t found it yet.” Santi says over coms while Fish tests the bookshelves for a hidden door. “No part of the layout that doesn’t make sense, no weird airflow issues. We may have to call it and reassess.”
“Alright well hurry up and wrap, I don’t have the clearest view in there.” She can see them from the chest up but they’re constantly disappearing and reappearing.
Ironically, she suspects it’s because of the moose.
She quickly checks the pictures Frankie sent to figure out exactly what she’s staring at. Santi's picture has bookshelves to the left and the office windows behind him, but she’s looking through the windows in the living room, perpendicular to those.
She checks Frankie’s and there’s enough to see the kitchen lights just over the curve of the animal’s head.
She re-orients herself with that understanding through her scope before checking the FLIR again. She can see their heat signatures clearly, but there’s the slightest anomaly in what should be the kitchen. Not unusual, save for the fact that it wasn’t there before. She watches for a fraction of a second longer before flipping back to the scope.
Movement.
“Boys, hit the deck.”
They both drop to the floor and there’s glass breaking followed by a heavy thud. Immediately the men are both on their feet, rifles raised.
There’s a body in the kitchen with a hole between the eyes.
Santi kicks the semi-automatic the man was holding out of reach before they both proceed in opposite directions around the house again, deeming it clear when they meet back in the kitchen.
“Anything on FLIR, Aud?” Frankie asks.
“Nothing. But the basement entrance is in there. Don’t rip it up, he came through easy without either of you hearing, meaning it’s not behind anything that would make noise.”
Frankie and Santiago sweep the kitchen again, opening cabinets that are too squeaky. A pantry that’s too packed.
Too packed until Frankie spots a can that looks far older than the ones around it.
“Got it,” Fish calls back as he presses the can lid and the back of the pantry swings open. Santi’s hand on his shoulder is his cue to proceed.
“I’ll hold up here, but remember, I can’t see or hear you down there. I’ll monitor the traffic but watch for alarms.” She glances down at the tablet that registers electronic chatter coming from the house.
It’s ten minutes of torture before they resurface.
“Aud?” Crackles over coms in Frankie’s voice. “We got it.”
“Beautiful. No spikes in the chatter so you should still be clear, but try not to stick around.”
“One second,” Santi replies and it grates on her. She checks the heat scope again before flipping back to her rifle. “Frankie, this guy’s about your height?” She hears Pope ask.
“Yeah.”
She sees Santiago’s back briefly against the living room window that now sports a hole high on the pane above him.
“Alright, we’re heading to you.” Santi finally complies.
She watches until they’re half a mile from the house before packing her gear up and slipping behind the driver’s seat, still tracking them through FLIR.
When they’re 20 meters out she starts the engine.
As soon as both doors slam, she hits the gas.
“Thanks for that,” Santi starts.
“That’s why I’m here. Sure it’s the right drive?”
“Yeah,” Frankie pats his backpack in the backseat.
“When we get back I’ve got something to show you.” Santiago’s got a grin on his face. Audrey meets Frankie’s eyes in the mirror.
She dares to say the look on his face is one of pride but she doesn’t have time for that now.
She pulls the Land Rover into town and Santiago hands the drive off to her contact as Frankie watches their six. Audrey calls headquarters to confirm the drop and authorize cleanup.
_____
She pours herself gin on the rocks when they’re back in her room.
They all have their own rooms spread out across the hotel and yet somehow they always end up in hers.
“You’re not gonna fucking believe this,” Santiago pulls out his phone and stands at her side, opening his camera roll. Frankie comes to join them, watching over her shoulder and stealing a sip from her glass.
Santiago holds up the screen so the three of them can see.
“That was your shot.”
It’s taken from up high, camera angled down to match the bullet’s trajectory.
She’s staring at Frankie through the brow tines of moose antlers.
“You nailed that shot through the biggest fuckin’ rack of antlers I’ve ever seen.”
“From a mile away,” Frankie adds.
“Through night vision,” Santi claps her on the back. “Well done, Moose.”
“This is a joke.” Is all she can bring herself to say.
“‘S not.” Santiago steals a sip from her glass now.
“No, you both clearly wanted me to have a call sign and when you saw the opportunity you took it.”
“Then get a copy of the cleanup report when it’s in. See for yourself.” Santi sets her glass on the desk.
She holds Santi’s phone, mouth open in incredulity until Frankie mashes his nose into her cheek. She can feel the smile on his lips.
“Well done, Moose,” Frankie echoes, giving her a kiss and handing back her gin before taking a seat at the foot of her bed.
“Get cleaned up, we’re taking you out dancing tonight. It’s tradition.” Santi says from the bathroom as he starts the shower, “I’ll send you that picture.”
“Well, shit.” She whispers to herself as she hands back Santiago’s phone.
“You gonna let me see the moose now?” Pope needles, arms crossed against his chest as he flops down next to Fish.
“No, I’ll just have Frankie send you a picture the next time he hits it from behind,” she quips as she disappears into the bathroom. Frankie’s eyes fly wide and he holds his hands up in surrender because whatever this is has nothing to do with him.
“That’s fine,” he smacks Frankie on the arm with the back of his hand, “just don’t get your dick in the picture, it ruins the illusion.”
“Jesus Christ, Pope.”
_____
Five hours later, a tequila-warm Frankie sidles up behind where Audrey is removing her eye makeup in the bathroom mirror. His chest molds to her back as he palms her hips, pulling her back against him.
Frankie buries his nose in her hair and meets her eyes in the mirror.
“You’re an amazing dancer, Aud.” He holds her hips, swaying her gently. Pressing the bulge in his trousers against the curve of her ass.
“You’ve got good hips yourself, Morales,” she drops the black-smudged cotton pad into the trash as one of Frankie’s hands skates up over her collarbone, gently cupping her jaw to angle her face back towards his.
She meets his lips with her eyes closed, but Frankie keeps his locked on the mirror, watching tendons in her neck work in the low, golden light.
“Help me out of this?” She whispers against his lips.
He kisses her again. “Happy to,” murmured against her mouth.
Frankie brushes her curls from the back of her neck, sliding the zipper of her dress down the line of her vertebrae, slipping his hands between fabric and skin and letting it fall.
He trails his fingertips up her sides, featherlight, before reaching to knead her breasts in his palms.
“You ever seen a moose, Aud?” He murmurs against the tattoo on her shoulder as he snaps open the clasp of her bra and slips it down her arms. Warm hands replace it before Frankie teases one nipple between his index and middle fingers.
“Two,” her voice is breathy from his touch. “On a road trip through Vermont. Take your shirt off. I want to feel you.”
“I’ve never seen one before today,” he says as he complies, pressing his heated chest flush against her back.
“They’re beautiful things, I’ll give you that,” he continues, nuzzling her neck, hands rubbing her lower stomach, holding her body against him. “Their noses are so soft,” lips ghosting over her neck, palms slipping under the waistband of her underwear to fit warm over her hip bones. “I think I’ve only ever felt one thing softer in my entire life,” he murmurs.
He cups her whole mound with one palm and she gasps, hips bucking back against him.
“Yeahhh,” he sighs, nibbling on her ear with a smile. “This pretty pussy is the softest thing I’ve ever felt.”
And Audrey grins, head falling back into the curve of his shoulder as Frankie’s fingers rub soft circles against her clit. He parts her lips with two fingers, urging her open, thumb catching on her clit as he strokes over her slit where she’s wet for him already.
“Are you particularly attached to these?” He snaps the waistband of her thong against her hip with his left hand.
“Never been particularly attached to clothes,” she gasps, gripping the basin of the sink.
His fingers have picked up speed over her clit.
“‘Kay,” he murmurs, teeth sinking into the juncture of her neck and shoulder. “Gonna fuck you in front of this mirror as soon as I’m done here.”
She moans.
“Gonna pump you so full of me,” he trails his nose up her neck to nip at her ear, “gonna watch it drip out.”
And he says it so matter-of-factly that she breaks with a gasp and a soft, fluttery orgasm that knows he’s only just getting started. Frankie’s fingers continue to roll slowly over the sensitive bud of her clit, milking every last pulse of pleasure from her.
When she finally melts back into him Frankie grins and pulls his hand from her underwear, giving her mound a light spank that makes her jump with sensitivity before he sucks his fingers clean. He goes to kneel and she stops him.
“Frankie, wait,” she rakes her hand through her hair, reaching for him as she tries to turn around, “you…let me just…”
“Baby, tonight’s your night, and I’m not do—“
“—oh fuck.”
She’s managed to spin in his arms, palming his cock through his slacks. She works him for a moment, eyes tracking his face as his eyelids flutter shut and his mouth falls open, pink tongue darting out to lick over his plush bottom lip.
“What were you saying, baby,” she murmurs against his mouth.
“Nothing,” he whispers with a smirk and a kiss.
Frankie braces his hands on the counter on either side of her, tipping his hips into her palm. She undoes his zipper and kneels with fabric as she pulls his trousers and boxer briefs down in one go.
Audrey locks eyes with him as she strokes his cock a moment before she licks an eager stripe up the underside of him.
He tastes of musk and salt and Francisco in a way that makes her head spin.
“Ohh shittt,” Frankie hisses as she slips his foreskin back and teases the underside of his head with the tip of her tongue.
She takes him between her lips, attending to the swollen tip until she tastes the salt of his precome before letting her jaw fall open enough for him to slide across her tongue.
Green eyes still locked on his face.
Her hands work the base of his dick as she continues, noting what makes his breath catch.
What draws low moans from his throat.
“Baby—“ Frankie whimpers when the tip of his cock hits the back of her throat, hand flying to cup her skull.
But he knows she might actually kill him if he moves her head even an inch, and so he grips the countertop with both fists instead as she continues.
Audrey pulls back a fraction and hums at the taste of him, the vibration of it causing his hips to jerk forward of their own accord, cock once again grazing the back of her throat.
“Shit, I’m sorry,” he moans and her mouth leaves him completely, a lewd string of spit connecting his tip to her flushed lips.
“‘S fine, Francisco.” Audrey works him with one hand, pressing a kiss to the base of his dick, “kinda like it,” she murmurs offhandedly before sucking on one of his balls.
“Fuuuuckk okay, okay, nope,” Frankie jumps, manhandling her up by the arms and flipping her around again as he steps out of where his pants are pooled at his ankles.
She catches the flash in his eyes when she meets them in the mirror.
The look he gets when the most base parts of his brain take over.
“You think you can just say that?” He growls into her ear as he kicks her legs apart with a socked foot. “You think you can just say you kinda like getting your face fucked…” He grabs at the waistband of her underwear and twists as he yanks it, lace tearing before it’s discarded over his shoulder, “and then suck on my balls with that dirty fuckin’ mouth of yours…”
Frankie suddenly thrusts his cock inside of her and she cries out at the stretch where he’s sheathed so deep.
One hand curls under her jaw to tip her face back towards him.
“…when I already told you I was going to fuck you in front of this mirror?” He slips his tongue into her mouth and she moans.
Frankie’s voice is low and measured, almost soft when he continues.
“You think you can do all that like it’s not going to immediately make me come all over this face?”
And Audrey grins and files that away.
“I already told you, gatita,” he pulls out and slams his cock back inside of her, making her writhe with pleasure where he has her trapped, “I’m going to come inside this pussy.”
And Frankie grips her hips and pounds away at the softest, most desperate parts of her.
She watches as Frankie pulls her apart. The way his gaze is locked on where his cock stretches her. The one errant curl made damp with exertion that falls into his eyes. The way his top lip curls with a particularly harsh snap of his hips. The set of his jaw and the grit of his teeth as he hisses air through the gaps, Adam’s apple bobbing with each grunt.
He purses his lips and scrunches his nose when he exhales.
Audrey shifts her hips and Frankie lets out a breathy “shit” when he bottoms out.
And Frankie reads her like a weather pattern from 30,000 feet.
Her mouth drops open and her head falls forward and he grins. He knows it's a game of pressure, not speed when he’s seated this deep, and he adjusts his stance to give her exactly what she needs until she’s screaming, one hand braced on the countertop, the other flattened against the mirror.
Calves burning from holding herself on tiptoes to help put Frankie at just the right angle.
He knows what it looks like just before lightning splits the sky.
“Look at me, baby,” he growls through clenched teeth, “look at me.”
And it’s a struggle with him hammering against her cervix, holding her on the brink of breaking.
The moment she meets his eyes from under a tangle of hair, Frankie presses two fingers against her clit and her walls clamp down around his cock and she lets out a scream that trails off into trembling sobs where he’s working her through it, pace still punching the air from her lungs.
He's grunting now, one hand gripped over her shoulder, the other splayed across her stomach, hips snapping against her ass.
"Fuck yeah, baby. C'mon," he grits out, "fuck, you look so beautiful,” he pants, eyes locked on her face in the mirror where her mouth has fallen open with pleasure. “Never get to see your face when I fuck you like this. You know that, hermosa? You know how beautiful you are?"
And he feels her abs go tight under his palm as he whispers in her ear before he tips her over.
"So fucking beautiful falling apart on this fat fucking cock.”
"FRANKIE," she wails as another wave of pleasure crashes into her, sending her walls clamping down hard around his dick before her strength fails her.
Frankie wraps her waist in one muscled arm when he feels her legs go shaky as she throbs around him, bracing his free palm against the mirror next to hers, frantically chasing his own release.
She finds herself enough to lace her fingers with the hand that’s holding her up and runs the other over his outstretched forearm.
“Go on, Frankie,” she tips her face to bury her nose into his bicep. “Mmmm let me feel it,” she purrs in a haze, licking at the salt of his skin. “Give it to me. Please. Please, baby. Oh god, I wanna feel you come, Frankie.”
“Oh FUCK—" he barks, feeling his cock respond to her words, swelling and twitching inside of her before she sinks her teeth into his arm.
Frankie shouts as his hips snap hard, smashing her painfully between him and the countertop as pleasure explodes, searing white-hot through his blood.
He snarls into her ear with every pulse of his cock as he empties himself deep inside of her for what feels like an eternity.
Audrey practically growls at the feeling of wet warmth that's already starting to drip down her thigh.
Frankie shudders with the last of it and her mouth falls open, tongue laving over the indentations her teeth stamped into his skin.
She slants her eyes over to meet his in the mirror and he whispers, “don’t you dare move.”
And she’s so pliant here pressed against his heaving chest that the thought of having to move hadn’t even yet crossed her mind.
Frankie pulls out with a moan and sinks to his knees, holding her first by the hips and then by her ass as she supports her weight with hands on the countertop because she still can't trust her legs.
He spreads her open with his thumbs, moaning with satisfaction at the sight of the thick white of his release slipping from her.
On impulse he latches his mouth to her pussy and she jumps with a whine at the scratch of his beard against delicate, overstimulated skin. Frankie’s tongue slips inside and Audrey’s head falls back on her shoulders as sanity briefly abandons her.
His chest finds her back again as his hand fits gently around her throat, fingers dipping into the hinge of her jaw, craning her head up and back.
Frankie lets his lips fall open against her mouth.
And lets his come slip onto her tongue.
And the hand around her throat waits for her swallow before his lips crash against hers, tongue slipping inside of her again. Tasting himself there.
“Oh my god,” she whispers against his mouth when they part. Both desperate for air.
“I told you,” he fights for breath against her back, “I was gonna watch it drip out.” Frankie mashes his nose to her temple, filling his burning lungs with the scent of her hair.
She brings one hand up to cup his scruffy cheek, humming in satisfaction.
“C'mere,” he whispers and sits on the floor, back braced against the jacuzzi tub, reaching up for her.
Audrey settles between his legs, head resting on his thigh, Frankie’s fingers soothing across whatever skin he can reach.
“Think I went deaf for a second,” she murmurs, tipping her face to suck a kiss into his inner thigh.
“Sorry, I know I was right in your ear.”
“No,” she hums, “before that.”
“That good?” Frankie strokes her hair.
“That good.” Audrey nuzzles his skin. “Is that tradition too when one earns their callsign?” She asks, angling big eyes up at him. “To come so hard you briefly go deaf?”
A coil of pride winds itself around his heart.
“It definitely wasn’t for Pope,” Frankie’s head thumps back against the tub with a grin and she laughs, curling in tighter to his leg.
“You cold, baby? Here,” he gently urges her up and starts the shower, wrapping her in his arms to offer his heat, sucking lazy kisses into her lips as they wait for the water to warm.
_____
And thus, the story of their fifth job and how Audrey earned her call sign is ridiculous.
So there was this taxidermy moose in an office in Belize…
But Audrey does in fact ask for a copy of the cleanup report.
It arrives at her apartment via courier early one Saturday morning. Over coffee she skims the details of a replaced window pane and the trajectory of blood splatter.
It all lines up with their account but she still can’t bring herself to believe. Until one line on the second to last page catches her eye.
Three broken shafts of hollow animal hair found at feet of deceased. Presumed from preserved Alces americanus in office, dislodged due to bullet trajectory. Cannot confirm without analysis. No visible damage to specimen. No further investigation warranted.
And she files it away with a grin.

Inside Sunrise Interview
Tumblr media
Inside Sunrise interview with Masayuki Ozaki and Kazuhiko Tamura. This is transcribed from an Anime News Network video linked below.
The Origin of Tiger & Bunny
Ozaki:
The idea for Tiger & Bunny came from two different roots. The first was Director Keiichi Sato's sentiments. To Director Sato, it's a story about heroes with mundane problems. The director said he wanted to depict a superhero drama with a sense of life to it. The other was my sentiments, as a producer. I wanted to depict the conflict and drama one sees when they've belonged to an organization for a while.
The impetus for the project came from the controversy over the competition swimsuits in the Beijing Olympics. I saw in an interview that wearing one particular kind of swimsuit gave you a chance at setting a record but, well, the athletes who had contracts with Japanese companies couldn't wear that fast swimsuit.
At the time, we were coming up with the project, so we thought the conflict of those athletes who belonged to those industries was very interesting and intriguing. And so we thought it would be nice to take the Director's desire to make a hero story, the story of heroes who have to bear the weight of sponsors, and depict the conflict, drama, and culture that lies behind all of that. So that's, well, how the idea came to fruition.
Tamura:
This is where we work on the storyboard for Tiger & Bunny. We're very particular about using pencil, and, um, the expression of performance, you could say. There are things you can't express without using pencil to depict motion, so we pay extra attention to those parts.
This is called the layout. A layout, you see, is this image, framed here by the screen. It's an image we use to make sure how it'll fit in the television frame. We use this as a base to create the key animation.
Oh, this character is Blue Rose. It's a scene where Blue Rose is drinking soda. It's part of a TV ad campaign in Japan. The drink is for one of the sponsors, but this is the test layout for that. We'll use this as a base to draw the animation.
Thoughts on the Characters
Ozaki:
When we were working on the costume design for the heroes of Tiger & Bunny, we paid special attention to their variety. There are 8 heroes who appear in this work, but from the start we had the idea that their suits should be diverse. We set the story in a near-future city that's anethnic melting pot, so the characters themselves were set to be a variety of races. There's a Russian character, a Chinese one, a Hispanic one, and a Japanese one too. We thought the hero suits should be designed to match those different characteristics.
Character Designer Masakazu Katsura, himself is very knowledgeable about superheroes. He loves superheroes, in particular, those from American comic books. Director Sato really liked that aspect as well. So Mr. Katsura pulled out a whole lot of ideas for what he wanted the superhero designs to be like. Fire emblem really is the kind of suit-wearing super hero you might find in American comic books.
A hero made with a bull as it's motif. Rock Bison is the kind of design you'll find in Japanese Tokusatsu, but not in American comics and that was the kind of variation we wanted it to have.
Tamura:
This right here is the CG check movie. We're running a check on the motion. We work on drawing the animation after we first make the CG.
Visual Effects Efforts
Ozaki:
Also, one of the visual aspects of Tiger & Bunny we were really conscientious about was depicting the heroes primarily through CG. The female character Blue Rose is the only one that's frequently hand drawn, but basically Tiger, Barnaby, and the others are all CG. They're designed to actually bear industry logos so since those industry logos would change over and over, we'd have to draw it over and over if they were hand drawn. That'd make it very difficult. But by making them CG, that kind of work, the swapping out of corporate logos, is not big deal.
One other reason is, we were keeping the world market in mind, and because of Pixar and Disney, CG animation is the visual style people around the world are most used to seeing. Hand-drawn animation certainly has its own good points, but in the end, we thought CG had the most universality and we designed each hero in CG. In doing it that way, we're able to come up with some pretty detailed imagery. For example, the hero Fire Emblem wears a cape, and that cape constantly flickers with fire as a pattern. If that was hand-drawn we couldn't do something like that. Those are the kinds of visual effects we focused on.
About Kotetsu
Ozaki:
The design for the character Kotetsu was clearly risky. For starters, he's middle-aged, has a beard, and is a single father. Characters like that in animation are, well, how do I say…it's a fact that they're hard for viewers to accept. The truth is, we were half hopeful and half fearful, but in the end we went with that design for the animation, and luckily, he's well accepted right now. We're actually getting word from the fans that they can empathize with him, and we're very happy to hear that reaction.
Kotetsu wasn't the only character, there's his partner, the younger Barnaby. This is a buddy story. By having another main character, we think we've established a very nice balance. Kotetsu's a middle-aged guy who used to be popular back in the day, but lately he's not doing so well. That's his character background. That said, there were things we wanted to illustrate thematically with him, like the importance of never giving up, of the bonds between people, things of that nature.
Plus, Hollywood movies, especially lately, are getting lots of sequels, and as the main character's actor gets older, they write the character to age with him. By part 4 or 5, he's already middle aged. Their refusal to give up, their continued fight, gave us some queues as well. You can say it's targeted more towards adults. As for me, I want to create dramas with universality, dramas that people of any generation can sympathize with and to keep making them in the future. That's what I hope for.

Located on the north shore of Great Slave Lake, Yellowknife today is the territorial capital and largest city of the Northwest Territories of Canada. This is not the story of that city, but rather of what comes after.
(PA stands for Post-Anthropocene. It is not the system used by Directors for measuring time.)
1 PA
Tumblr media
The city of Yellowknife, prior to the war, was growing at an exponential pace. Its stable climate, ample water supply, and the relocation of many important government functions eventually led to its population surpassing 200,000 by the time a one-megaton thermonuclear warhead, launched from western Gansu province, landed just south of its primary airport. The city's fairly compact layout, combined with the yield of the device, led to total devastation, the first days seeing the deaths of over half the city's residents.
Tumblr media
One year later, a global nuclear cooling effect has taken hold, and the charred ruins of Yellowknife lay empty. Some Human survivors remain on the outskirts, however the city as a whole is largely devoid of complex life. There are more survivors however, both Human and nonhuman, within the fallout radius, and elevated radiation levels will lead to increased rates of genetic mutation among the next generation. While typically leading to death or chronic illness in those impacted, among dwindling nearby Raven and Crow populations two mutations will actually prove mildly beneficial. A slight change in beak shape, and a growth abnormality in the right set of talons.
At a time when most edible plant and animal life is dead, and what remains is often small and burrowed, these chance mutations will forever alter the course of Earth's history.
1000 PA
Tumblr media
Around this time, somewhere in Tierra Del Fuego, the last Human takes their final breath. While the effects of nuclear cooldown are long forgotten (at least at the superficial level), the destruction of nearly 80% of the ozone layer proved far more consequential in the long run. Even as industrial greenhouse gas emissions were suddenly and violently halted, the amount released by the firestorms that engulfed much of the Earth at the end of the Anthropocene led to further runaway warming, picking up around 20 PA.
By now only small pockets of large plant life remain, much of it in areas too hard-hit by the initial nuclear exchange for Humans to take advantage of before the end. Much of Earth's plant life is comparatively smaller, hardier shrubbery and root organisms that can survive drastic weather changes and high UV exposure. This is an improvement from the first 100 years, however, is a very difficult environment for land organisms much larger than coyotes to survive in.
Amidst the desolation, events unfold in the North American Arctic. With populations at a level that Humans would have long ago considered critically endangered, Crows and Ravens in this region, low on options, begin to crossbreed, leading to the first early "Directors". Still, without the caloric intake necessary, this new species remains, like its ancestors, at a level of only basic sapience for the time being.
100,000 PA
Tumblr media
It's been 99,000 years or so since the death of the last Human, a little less since the hatching of the first members of a species that could vaguely be described as Directors. In that time, tool use, especially among those individuals, has diversified significantly. Use of large rocks to hunt creatures from the air, early harnessing of gathered fire, spears to reach deep into burrows, and stone shovels for digging out root plants. Still, the overall cognition of this species lacks certain important complexities.
Around this time, that is quickly changing. As the species has been psychologically driven for millennia to find, gather, and consume any food they come across on account of its sparse availability, the steady return of an ample food supply has led to the consumption of higher-than-necessary quantities. This, combined with improving tool use and the occasional harnessing of captured fire, will, given enough time, lead to the dawning of Earth's second technological society.
For now, however, the average life of a Director wouldn't look remarkably different from the life of any typical Crow or Raven of the present day. A few more tools, a little more complexity in communication and games, but all in all nothing that would get one whisked away to a research lab by today's Humans.
300,000 PA
Tumblr media
Amid the treetops, an endless expanse of wilderness stops only at the side of a fantastic lake. As winter ends, in rudimentary language a group of avians discuss an idea to help one another tend to their nests. Soon, most of the roost disperses, but a few members stay behind. Together they craft tools, collect food, make art, and otherwise watch out for one another.
It works out well.
It works out very well.
As the next winter comes around, more decide to join them.
The first permanent communities constructed by Directors are only as large as the surrounding environment permits, and in the warm season, most continue to break off into smaller family territories. Still, these year-round communities wait for them upon their return, and as they have for millions of years, prove vital in the exchange of information.
Each warm season the communities grow, and understandings of everything from food acquisition to the inner workings of nature grow with them. The first instances of selective breeding can be recorded in this time period, particularly among grasshopper species and, of all plants, sunflowers, an odd final "gift" from the last Human survivors in the region being their ample presence.
One year, a casual game causes sparks to erupt on the shoreline of the lake, the right stones dropped on top of one another from just the right altitude. It lights a small fire in nearby brush, which quickly goes out on its own.
400,000 PA
Tumblr media
An ominous orange glow rises in the distance. Far from the permanent community, though if the winds change moving it won't be too difficult, at least at this time of year. They can always make a new one, and the controlled burn serves a purpose too important to not carry out. As Directors are too small to adequately clear land, at least on their own, a complex system of agroforestry has developed instead. This region's culture, now harboring one of the post-Anthropocene world's first new writing systems, uses it to manage forests and encourage the growth of edible plant life. Much of it involves introducing plant species selectively bred for nearly 100,000 years, to a point unrecognizable from its original form. Each year, on top of the tried and true, they tinker with new methods and record the results. All part of a more complex, more widespread ideology that has begun to blossom.
As a generalist species with fairly short lifespans, early Directors have a better sense of the cycles of life and death than early Humans and are more prone to consider the impacts of their actions outside of their own lifespan. Much more than us, they live on through their offspring. To an extent, this culture, like many others, believes in integration with nature rather than dominance.
Despite this, what is said is not always done, and language tends to focus more on avoiding annihilation rather than alteration, though the hypocrisy of some of these sentiments will become increasingly important as technology advances. For now, the first large communities have begun to pop up around these controlled burn sites, sedentary agricultural hubs, and rudimentary fisheries along the coast. They feature a one-level layout among the tree canopy, largely for waste management, with everything from basic trade workshops and artistry to storage areas, even archives or libraries in the largest communities. However, unlike early Human cities, these possess no leader, no monarch to give orders, and no currency.
This will become a running theme as Directors progress further into their development.

Is City of North Winds in the distance, a group of Directors works together to pull an early lighter-than-air craft. It carries a variety of items belonging to their rural community, now migrating to the city for easier access to food and resources amidst lowered global temperatures following an unknown volcanic eruption.
The city in the distance has a population of over two million, the largest city on Home at the time. Its most densely populated section has been under construction for thousands of years, trees selectively bred to grow taller and more resistant to flame, their branches sturdier, reaching high above the forest canopy. Recently developed bioluminescent lanterns seem to hang across every surface, and everything from tapestries and streamers to chimes and windmills adorn the exterior. Within the branches and cavernous clearings of this city, the region's culture blossoms, as does a (somewhat) new system of labor organization.
First originating on the Island of currently plentiful shrubbery, known in the Anthropocene as Baffin Island, the collective system arose in response to a need for accounting of who was doing what at any given time as the population grew. In order to do this, collectives were formed, loose groups of individuals coming together to complete needed tasks for a community. These groups were and continue to be open to join and leave as an individual wishes, with no structure or hierarchy within them save for systems of apprenticeship that were established as certain forms of labor complexified. It takes Is City of North Winds by storm, as although there is no force by which to drive people to personally adopt the system, the cold has everyone on edge.
More confined than usual, amidst the city's interior its residents watch as much of the livestock that couldn't be brought inside, some of it entirely immobile as a consequence of millennia of alteration, ends up succumbing to the extreme cold. Debate, long engaged in but seldom at a societal level, over the ethics of many of the selective breeding practices being engaged in begins to rage. It will lead to the three lakes' culture's slow disillusionment with many of their practices, which will take root, vanish, and reappear over hundreds of generations. It will take over 9,000 years for this undercurrent of discontent to finally be put to rest.

In a smaller auditorium at the edge of the community, a crowd gathers before a group of travelers from far southeast. Outside, an already-operating windmill is wired to produce a small amount of energy, just enough to power three models of a strange new contraption. The audience is intrigued. While aesthetically displeasing, the increasing number of ways to harness this energy poses unique opportunities in dozens of fields, and the crowd can't help but speculate.
499,000 PA
Tumblr media
Solstices ago, a research collective in the underground section of the city received a design for a device via mail. It comes once again from the southeast, where a thus far unwieldy technology has slowly become better understood in spite of limited general interest. Now, it bears fruit. The world's first electron microscopes in nearly 500,000 years, small towers compared to their operators. Within 200 years, laboratory gene editing will be commonplace. Within 500, society as they know it will be nearly unrecognizable.
500,000 PA
Tumblr media
Night falls on Was, Is, and Shall Be City of North Winds. The glowing, immensely decorated mountain of sorts rises high above the forest canopy, surpassing even the monolithic posts of airship docks.
Society has changed in so many aspects over the past thousand years that it is somewhat pointless to try and list everything. Still, perhaps the most significant among these changes is what has occurred on the cultural level. To the residents of this community, and indeed to most of First Home's cultures, the development of direct genetic modification was a turning point beyond anything in the history of the configuration. Technologies that would have otherwise taken incredible spans of time to direct to fruition now took a few solstices. And, importantly, most could be done utilizing only stem cells.
As part of a wider societal craze, many ancient ethical debates had the equivalent of a sledgehammer taken to them as communities unified around a new goal, preached but not truly practiced by cultures since the beginning of their civilization. That goal, the recognition, and more importantly treatment of all complex life as being inherently equal to their own configuration, was perhaps finally within reach.
Far from the city, a grasshopper lands on a well-positioned sunflower, one of many that grow freely in the wilderness of the central north. They do not consider the balloon rockets departing in the west, or, at least not strongly, the nature of the airships passing in the distance. Still, it is because of their sacrifice that they fly, and now it is for them that they will continue.

As a palette cleanser for when you’re done studying, what are some of your favorite works of horror besides Welcome Home?
it's hard for me to articulate what makes a work of horror my Favorite, so i just racked my brain for the ones i tend to come back to the most often, and i came up with these. i tried to include official links only, but some of these can easily be found Elsewhere online (hint hint) and others don't have any official english localizations. i've also included a brief summary and content warnings for each one - be warned that some of these are A Lot.
don't hug me i'm scared: (channel 4 series) episodic surreal horror comedy about three puppets sharing a very normal house, learning very normal lessons from the designated "teacher" of each episode, and navigating their very normal world. content warnings include: unreality and gore. like, at least once an episode, there is gore. lbr if you're a fan of welcome home then you at least have a passing knowledge of dhmis.
sex house: a parody of early 2010s reality tv, centering around six contestants being invited to the titular house for one thing and one thing only - sex. they will have sex. the network won't stand for anything less. content warnings include: sexual coercion/extortion, one dubiously consensual sex scene between two people with an extreme age gap, pregnancy, animal death, brief but on-screen gore, drugging, death/near-death situations as a result of negligence, and one instance of Questionable asexual representation that might have just been a diversion (i really cannot tell.) also there's a scene in episode 4 where a character draws muhammad on their forehead so that they can't be filmed and i still have no idea how to feel about it.
porkin across america: a former daytime talk show host embarks on his latest venture, a food tourism show in which he samples the best pork-themed dishes every state in the U.S. has to offer. but can he see his quest through to the end while also outrunning the harsher realities of life and reality TV? signs point to no. content warnings include: gore, body horror, two instances of offscreen but audible animal death, a brief instance of drug abuse, and some casual racism on the part of the host in order to establish him as Every Unlikable American Food Tourist (this gets dropped early on.)
i want to hold aono-kun so badly i could die: two teens attempt to forge the perfect relationship with one another - an effort that is somewhat hampered by the fact that they come from less-than-perfect families. also, one of them is a ghost. content warnings include: explicit sexual content, gore, body horror, suicide, graphic suicide attempt, death, child death, animal death, and pretty much every kind of abuse (emotional, physical, sexual, neglect, etc.) in the context of both familial and romantic relationships.
devotion: a screenwriter in 1980s taiwan awakens one evening to find himself in his living room, now dark and decrepit, and attempts to navigate the ever-shifting layout of his apartment in order to look for his daughter. content warnings include: gore, domestic abuse, ableism, some flashing/jumpscares, [potential spoilers from this point forward] religious abuse, cults, and child death.
slay the princess: a visual novel (albeit a demo for now) about a princess locked away in a cabin, and the narrator who really, really wants you to kill her (for perfectly altruistic reasons, i'm sure.) but who is she? what does she look like? does she seem like the kind of person who could bring about the end of the world like the narrator insists? that all depends on how you see her - literally. content warnings include: black tabby games was kind enough to provide content warnings themselves!
the wolf house: a stop-motion film presented as a propaganda piece for a cult heavily based on colonia dignidad, following a young woman who flees in order to escape her punishment for letting three pigs escape, and ends up taking refuge in an abandoned house in the woods with two pigs (unrelated to the first three.) i honestly have a hard time describing it beyond that - i would say it's worth watching for the animation alone, but i think the story it presents as well as the historical context really elevated it for me, to the point where i don't think i would have the same appreciation for it otherwise. content warnings include: body horror, references to nazi/white supremacist ideology, cults, religious abuse, and possible allusions to child sexual abuse.
also, i didn't include works from either of these people because if i listed Every work of horror they had a hand in that i liked then this post would be 200 miles long, but i really like alan resnick and jordan peele's horror work. i was almost going to include what happens next, but that isn't really horror so much as it is a new age thriller-drama thing, and i couldn't really find a way to summarize it more succinctly than just relaying the events of the comic so far in full. good thing each title card comes with content warnings.
