Sketched more of your chicks!! (and a few from other blogs). I adore the floppy flap I had to try to get that in more detail <3
Haha your great at capturing Beeper and the bantams. I'd say that with the Leghorns you tend to make the beak a bit short though since they have long elegant beaks :) I included some pictures of the ladies so you can see what I mean.

And here is Blue next to Zinger. My bantams tend to have shorter beaks compared to their heads when compared to the leghorns. Leghorns are a Mediterranean breed which tend to be skinny and elongated compared to other breeds.

Lovely wonderful art regardless I love seeing other people's sketches and art of chickens even if they aren't of my birds

It's different when a chicken is pecking at the grass because it will end up being shorter in the crop than the long strands you might get from glass clippings. Chickens also will typically be picky about what they are eating which they might not be when in a run and getting grass clippings.
Let's not ignore the fact that poultry dvm is run by poultry specialists, and both infographics include a source that I will also share here since it's likely you did not read it before commenting.
"In contrast to conventional commercial poultry, which are raised primarily in controlled indoor environments, backyard poultry are typically raised in less restricted settings, potentially exposing them to a greater variety of ingestible substances, including multiple types of forage. Consequently, problems such as gastrointestinal impactions caused by ingesta have been noted in backyard poultry. To determine the prevalence of these impactions in backyard poultry, we performed a retrospective database search for autopsy submissions to the California Animal Health and Food Safety laboratory system and found that gastrointestinal impaction was associated with the death of 42 backyard poultry cases (40 chickens, 1 turkey, and 1 goose) from January 2013 to July 2018. In 32 of these 42 (76%) cases, the impaction was caused by fibrous plant material, 7 (17%) by compacted feed, and 3 (7%) by miscellaneous ingesta (tortilla, plastic, and wood shavings). The large proportion of grass impactions indicate that foraging is the predominant source of impaction material in backyard poultry, and that long grasses may be a significant health hazard for poultry. Backyard, pasture-raised, and free-range poultry producers are advised to maintain short pastures, avoid feeds that may expand in the gastrointestinal tract, and provide adequate grit to prevent impactions"

Also people just assume every kind of grass and forage is perfectly fine for every farm animal when it's not. There are reasons why pasture management is so important when raising livestock. Horse people are painfully aware of this fact and I am as well. That's why their are pasture seed mixes so you can plant the appropriate plants that won't kill your animals.
Ask anyone who has had a chicken get crop impaction surgery as well. Most of the time it's long fibrous material (grass) that is blocking the crop and causing the impaction.
Below is a picture of a hen getting grass clippings surgerically removed from her crop

I'm unfortunately very good at getting blocked lol
Anyway never put grass clippings into your coop especially if you are not familiar with the kind of grass and other plants present on your lawn and pasture!

Grass clippings can also be a source of parasites, flies, and poisoning from things like the above plant! They are long and it's easy for it to get tangled in the crop and digestive tract. VETS recommend not feeding grass clippings for this reason. Please just toss them on your compost!

Chicken Science Swednesday: Chicken as a liquid
Many people are unaware that some chickens, when exposed to direct sunlight, become puddles:
Tumblr media
There is no reason to be alarmed, as this process is 100% reversible. Indeed, most chickens will return to their solid form within a few minutes of melting, without any external assistance.
Don't worry if you were unaware of this. Even chickens who are not currently puddles are often confused by these encounters:

I have Ibis over Sugar and his mother Sassy eggs under some broodies. Which will hopefully hatch around May 6th. This is a test breeding for Ibis to see if he carries any bad lethals.
Sassy and Sugar aren't actually brooding them I have my silked girls doing that lol I already checked their eggs and they have been seperated from a rooster long enough that their eggs are infertile so if they sneak in some eggs it won't matter. I did mark all the eggs though so their shouldn't be any surprises anyway.
