What do you mean that the batfam, a family full of people who speak fluently 10 languages or so, doesn't have conversations on those languages everytime
I mean; english is my second language, so i know what i'm talking about here
The best thing you can do to not forget an language is to practice with someone.
Besides, imagine all the funny things to work here
Someone forgets how to say something and only can remember it in another language, he/she tries to describe the thing but really no one can understand it
They are speaking a language and suddently one word from other comes to the conversation and it's so casual that any of them notice but someone who doesn't speak that language
Some of them know languages that any of the others know. Like, idk, damian speaks arabic and Dick speaks romani and maybe catalan or any other indoeuropean language because spent all his childhood traveling in the world, mostly europe and america, so i think he is the most fluent of all of them... since he is used to learn languages it should be easy for him.
They somtimes mistake and say a proverb from another language but in english it has no sense
Like, "to gifted horse, you musn't see the teeth"
And everyone is like "????"
Steph would have problems to learn all of this and sometimes the batkids are arguing or just talking and she really doesn't know what the heck they are talking about
Maybe Tim has problems too, he is probably better in math and informatic but he does speak several languages, just not as fluently as his brothers
Jason loves to bother tim and steph speaking to them with the hardest languages they can't undestand
This make them get super frustraded
Since Cass is learning how to speak, they teach her several languages, at first it's hard to her, but then she learned quiker than every one of them. Thay all are surprised by this
They have a loooong list of insults amd no fear to use them
Except when alfred is near
Don't swear in ANY language if alfred is near.
He'll know even if he doesn't speak that language

Carry On By Rainbow Rowell Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall 8/10
THIS REVIEW IS SPOILER FREE!
I’ll go in depth below about certain elements, but I won’t spoil anything you don’t already know by reading the sleeve.
So! This may be a bit controvercial, but I liked Wayward Son a lot! I can see people’s issues with it. If you were looking for a YA romance, this will not be your cup of tea. For a YA fantasy? It’s great! It was both heartfelt and entertaining. It managed to keep up the pace and remain interesting, even though it was one of those books where they spend ninty percent of the time traveling. So, lets get into the indepth reveiw!
Wayward Son in-depth grading:
LGBT: 8/10
Since my url is literally ‘queer books and tea’, I like to give a little LGBT friendly rating. This book, obiously, has great representation in it. I mean, outside of the focal two there wasn’t much, but that’s not at all surprising. I had no issues with the way things were portrayed either way.
Diversity: 7/10
Fantastic! Main characters of color, and side characters too. I never once felt like anything was over white washed. If anything, it does kind of mock the Elete White Man Status TM, which actually gets pretty funny if you know their context.
Plot: 6.5/10
This book was a lot of travel. Somtimes, that can make things feel a bit boring, or inconsistent. Luckily though, it managed to both travel and keep things refreshing. Plus the underlying plot is supper well done.
However this book feels a bit like the srtange middle child in a series. You know? It’s just like it feels everything is building up to somthing, and another book needs to come along to sweep up the loose ends. The only reason I have it the six is because as a stang alone it kind of leaves a lot to be desired.
Characters: 8/10
Okay, so this is kind of where the hot take comes in. The characters were genuine, and flawed, but it didn’t at all make them bad. Simon and Baz were not perfect, who could expect them to be? Neither was any of the others, but it still felt real. It felt good. I think if people were looking for romance, this is where you’d get the most lost.
We all want to see love work out, and be cute and perfect all the time. I don’t wanna get too preachy, but somtimes it’s not that. This book feels stronger for it’s flaws, and maybe making us work for that happily ever after will have us more happy in the end. Not that everyone fought ALL the time but uhhh.
World: 9/10
Very well done! I felt like I was exploring America for the first time, and I live here! Of corse the world of Carry On is a bit silly if you think about it, being so derivative of Harry Potter, but it’s so fun it makes up for it.
Pace: 6/10
The pace was good, and the climax had my heart leaping out of my chest. However then end at a ‘cliff hanger’. However this cliff hanger feels more like a stange place to end then an intence one. It’s like we weren’t really given a resolution before the cliff hanger. If it were the transition into the next part of the book it might be a bit better, but it just kind of ends.
