Modern AU Camilo Madrigal x Reader || Rivals to Lovers

Warning: Foul language, some violence, Camilo acting like a jerk and name calling.

Note: Since I'm not a native Spanish speaker and don't know any Spanish, Google translated all of the Spanish words in this story. This is my first fic! I hope you guys enjoy it (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ)

Synopsis:

Someone in the halls is making fun of your friend. You caught her look and understood her plea for help. It all happened so quickly, and before you realized it, you were standing between your friend and her tormentor. Your friend's infatuation on Camilo was the subject of public ridicule, and you, blissfully ignorant, heroically bear her humiliation. Perplexing yourself and everyone else in the audience, even the man of the hour.

"Watch out, Mirabel!" before she could react someone slammed into her shoulder, knocking Mirabel to the ground. From afar, a shriek could be heard, "Watch where you're going, dumbass!" The guy who collided with Mirabel brushed aside the remarks and dashed away, causing the girl with red streaks in her brown hair to become extremely upset and rush to Mirabel's aid. "Mirabel! Are you alright?" Veve consulted as she assisted Mirabel in standing back up. You see the guy approaching from the other side of the corridors.

You stretch your foot out to trip the guy, who is totally unaware of your presence. And you sent the guy plummeting to the floor, to which your lips formed a wry smile in response. Quickly fleeing away from the scene before more students flock over the commotion. You marched yourself towards Mirabel and Veve, and kneeled down to retrieve Mirabel's glasses from the ground and placed them back to where they were supposed to be. Veve then stood up and handed Mirabel her belongings, which had previously been sprawled on the ground. Mirabel quickly expresses her gratitude to you and Veve and then turns to you with a sour expression.

"Ay Dios Mio (Y/N)! Por favor, podrías haberte metido en problemas." (please, you could have gotten into trouble.) Mirabel remarked, scowling. You shrugged it off and feigned innocence "I don't know what you're talking about mi amiga?" Mirabel sneered at your response. Veve guffawed as she placed her arm around your shoulders "Alright, quit it you two."

"I don't even know how you were able to see all of that... With your glasses on the ground." you quipped making Mirabel slap your arm. "So you're admitting you made him tripped?" Mirabel folded her arms as she raised one of her eyebrows, you sighed and then raised your hands as a sign of defeat, not wanting further anger from the curly-haired girl. Veve eyed you both then asked "Now that that's settled-- I heard that the school boards updated its scores. Want to head there before we meet up with Vin?" You took Veve's arm off your shoulders and flattened out the newly formed wrinkles of your uniform.

Mirabel winced at the suggestion and linked her arm with Veves', whispering something in her ear, which elicited a puzzled look from you. "I'm sorry? Can you guys spare me some details on what you're whisperin' 'bout?'' while you keep tapping your foot on the floor. Veve's obnoxious laughter startled both of you and Mirabel. "What's so funny Vee?" you questioned somewhat impatiently. Veve then coughed "Erm-- It's nothing your pretty lil brain should worry about." Mirabel then intervened "It's just you know... They might also be there?" You raised your eyebrows at her and asked "I'm sorry, who are we talkin' 'bout here?" knowing exactly that she was referring to him. You felt hands on your shoulders quickly spinning you around and pushing you in the direction of the school boards. "That's enough yapping out the two of you. Vin's waiting you know?" You hear Mirabel groaning and see her massaging her temples.

The three of you marched your way to the school board. When you arrive, there are a few people crowding around it, but not too many for the three of you to push your way in front. While dragging your way towards the front, you caught a glimpse of a recognizable yellow sweater, however, you didn't pay much attention to it because your gaze was drawn to the board. You hear Veve cussing under her breath "Well shit, bawi nalang ako next life" (I'll do better in my next life) as she shrugged her shoulders. You spotted your name- and you also saw his name gleaming as if it was taunting you, sitting on top of yours. "Camilo fucking Madrigal" you can feel your nails clawing on your skin as you spat his name. Mirabel saw this and tried to comfort you, while Veve secured both of your hands to keep you from hurting yourself any further. You took a breath and soothed yourself. And, as if God himself wanted to demonstrate how much he despised you, you hear people applauding, as you were about to turn your back you hear his voice calling out to you. 'Good Grief, his voice is so fucking infuriating! Does he ever shut up?'

Mirabel winced, not awaiting another squabble between the two of you. "Major kudos once more on finishing second (Y/N), it's always been a pleasure seeing your lovely name beneath mine." you could already imagine that shit-eating grin settling on his face. You turned around and glared at him, folding your arms "Don't flatter yourself too much, Madrigal; I'm just warming up your place." you spat. He pushed back some of his curls that were blocking his face and took a step closer to you, to which you stood firm, and frowning at his stupid face. He loomed over you and smiled broadly, "I s'pose this is the part where I suggest 'try a bit harder next time' ain't it?" you sneered at his words and yanked his collar so you guys are at eye level, "If I ever wanted to kill myself, I'd start with your ego and jump to your IQ." He only chuckled and whispered in response to your remark, causing goosebumps to form on your skin. "You're pretty damn hot whenever I get you all stirred up like this chica bonita." You could feel the warmth rising onto your cheeks. You pried your hands away from his collars and dashed away from the scene. He beamed at your reaction, not bothering to adjust his collar, and Mirabel grimaced at her cousin, saying, "It'd be nice if you guys would get along every now and then, you know?" To which he could only shrug his shoulders and admit, "Can't seem to help it." Before Mirabel can let out a full-blown lecture Veve snatched Mirabel and chased after you.

You make your way to the school parking lot to meet up with Vin. Vin became aware of someone approaching him and turned his gaze away from his phone and toward the person in front of him. He stuffed his phone into his pockets and wrapped his arm around you, "Hey there, what's got you in a bad mood, bun?" he rubbed your shoulder in an attempt to console you. You vigorously scrubbed your face, muttering incoherent words like "It's— nothing... I'm ok now." Vin then snagged your hands away from your face and pinched your cheeks. "I can't deny your cute pouty face (N/N), but I prefer your smiling face any day," he cooed. You pry his hands away from your aching cheeks and sit on the edge of his car. You try to soothe your cheeks and give Vin a puzzled look "Where's Lira?"

"Oh she went back to her class to grab something..." he said as he went to open his car door. You turned to him and asked if he needed any help. "No, I got it..." he groaned as you noticed him holding a paper bag and seated next to you. You felt something being placed on your lap.

"What-" before you can even complete your question, the waft of freshly baked banana bread entered your nostrils. "I opted to give that to you later, but now seems like a good time." Vin grinned when he saw you drooling over his present. You leaned on Vin and thanked him and he rubbed your back in response "Anytime bun." You opened the paper bag and took a slice of banana bread, gleaming at it, but as you were about to bite into it, you were engulfed in a hug.

"AY (Y/N) ¡Siento mucho la actitud de mi primo hacia ti!" (AY (Y/N) I'm so sorry for my cousin's attitude towards you!) You hear Mirabel mumbling on your shoulder, you giggled and hugged her back. "It's not your fault your primo's a dick, Mirabel. I'm ok." you told her as you remove yourself from her hug, trying to get back into eating your banana bread. Vin and Veve both shared a knowing look at each other "I called it! Knew it was him who got you all grumpy." Vin quipped, Veve then decided to sit next to Vin and looked down at her freshly painted nails, "The one and only-- that gets under her skin like that," she cooed as she nudged Vin with her arm, seeing the grimaced look on Vin's face.

Everyone doesn't seem to mind when Veve suggests finding Lira. "From my observations... Vin and Veve aren't really doing well lately huh? How's that game been treating you guys?" Mirabel teased as the four of you approached Lira's classroom. The two were busy talking to each other, but when they acknowledged what Mirabel said, they both tensed up. Veve then pointed her finger at Vin saying "Don't look at me, this dumbass has lower marks than I do," eliciting a whine from Vin. Vin jokingly pushed Veve and quipped "In my defense, she was the one who suggested that game to me." Your ears perk up as you hear his voice from afar, and your gaze is drawn to his figure. His tanned skin, freckles barely visible till the sun hit him, brown kinky hair, calloused hands, and green eyes which always managed to hold some sort of mischief in them.

You shake off your unwanted thoughts and see him howling with laughter with his friends, you think to yourself, 'Probably made some lame joke again.' You begrudgingly removed your attention from him and back at your friends.

Still bickering at each other seemingly getting physical, you laughed at their bantering and flung open the door for them. While the two were still pointing fingers, Mirabel thanked you as your gaze settled on Lira, head resting on her arms. It wasn't difficult to find the girl because she has a relatively tall structure. You walk towards her, causing the others to follow you. "Lira, everything all right?" you consulted, and she hoisted her head rapidly once she heard a voice, causing her head to crash into yours. Vin caught you before your body could touch the ground, grunting as you massage your head in an attempt to relieve the pain. Lira stood up from her seat and apologized profusely, "No biggie, I'm okay..." Vin prompted you to sit in Lira's chair. Mirabel massaged Lira's back and asked, "You look stressed, anything troubling you?"

Veve sat on Lira's desk and used you as an armrest, eliciting a whine from you, "Feels like a crushing dilemma to me, isn't that right Lira?" Veve flashed a smile. You and Mirabel gasped at the recently found information as the tall girl slumped her back and groaned. Mirabel then started shaking Lira, exclaiming, "You like someone? Uhm, since when- How? Why? Where did you meet 'em?" Your gaze was drawn to her figure, as if you, too, were seeking answers. Lira then managed to rip Mirabel's hands off of her and explained, "Yes, I like someone... It's no big deal, ok? And I don't think it's plausible and quite frankly, a truly awful decision." she sighed and tried to comfort herself. You pushed Veve's arm away from you and looked at her; she gave you a puzzled look in response. "You knew?" you asked, drawing Mirabel and Vin's attention. "She didn't tell me, I just observed her and started to notice she's more paranoid than usual." Veve clarified. Not wanting to agitate your friend anymore, you guys decided to just drop the topic off and move on. Not long you guys decided to split off and head to your classes. You decided to drop the subject and move on so as not to aggravate your friend any further. You decided to split up and go to your classes not long after.

You waved goodbye to your classmates and went off to meet up with the guys. You received a message from Mirabel after classes asking if you could go to her class and wait for her; you didn't mind and texted her back sure. You ventured your way to her class and exchanged memes with Vin via chat while waiting for her in the hallways. Suddenly a pile of paper landed on your arms, you were completely taken aback. Once you looked up you saw the perpetrator, you snarled, "Madrigal- What the fuck?" He tousled your hair and winked, "G'luck 'bun,' if I were you, I'd start hiding." He then retreated, leaving you astonished. When you witnessed an infuriated teacher approaching you, you started to feel your sweat drop. It took some time to clarify yourself to the teacher, but she let you off the hook after issuing a warning. Which you choose to accept rather than being put in detention.

After that misfortunate situation, you hear Mirabel call out for you among the crowd. You texted Vin that Mirabel's class was finished and plopped your phone back in your bag before making your way toward her. You slumped your head on her shoulder and whined "I was today years old when I realized my hatred for your primo is bigger than I expected." Mirabel giggled and patted your back. Veve caught up with you guys not long after, and now you just have to pick up Lira and meet up with Vin and his car.

Lira was on the other side of the corridor, chatting to a classmate about an upcoming event. She was clutching the notebooks she had borrowed from you in order to return them to you later, completely unaware that something had slipped from her grasp. Unfortunately for her, the most obnoxious guy in their class was the one who picked it up. He picked it up and inspected the piece of paper, which revealed a portrait of Camilo with a bundle of hearts doodled on it. An idea flashed through his mind as if he was overjoyed to share the exciting news he had just collected with everyone.

On your way to Lira's classroom, you have been greeted by a swarm of students tussling over something. You three locked gazes, equally perplexed by the commotion. Veve ended up sitting on Mirabel's shoulder as you stepped on the window ledge, trying to catch a glimpse of the situation. "What do you guys see?" Mirabel inquired. "Tangina! It's Lira- Terrence is making fun of her! Epal ka gunggong ka." (Son of a bitch! It's Lira- Terrence is making fun of her! You shameless dumbass.) Veve exclaimed, pointing to the scene. "What is happening..?" you muttered. Lira detected you guys not long after, she stared at you as if pleading for help, and you bit your lip in frustration. Mirabel tightened her grip on Veve's legs as she worried, "Aray! Mirabel ansakit-" (Ouch! Mirabel, it hurts-) Veve screeched, trying to regain her balance. Mirabel loosened her grip and mumbled "Ay! Lo Siento Lo Siento! ¡Me Estoy asustando!" (I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I'm getting scared!)

You'd had enough of this clownery and hoisted your way up, making Mirabel stumble back a little. In an attempt to catch herself and her friend, Veve gripped the corner of the walls "AY AY AY! YOKO PA MAMATAY-" (AY AY AY! I DON'T WANT TO DIE-) You crammed yourself into the crowd in order to get to Lira. You found yourself between your friend and her tormentor, "Terrence" you hissed at him, extending your arms out in an attempt to protect Lira. You felt Lira's hands grip your arms. You glanced at her and asked if she was hurt, and she responded by shaking her head. A nasal voice drew your attention: "(Y/N)?- Dude scram, you have no business here. By the way Congrats on placing second place girly." Terrence towered over you and Lira, as you backed away to create some space between the two of you.

"Oh my, it speaks?" you mocked, a smile creeping across your face. Students around you seemed to laugh at your remark, as Terrence staggered back a little. "What- Look (Y/N), we all know you like to get your nose in everyone's business, but you need to comprehend that no man will ever be attracted to you if you keep on doing so." He folded his arms and smiled widely at you. You stepped closer to him as he fumbled back a little "Careful now, Terrence sweetheart, Isn't it dangerous to use your entire vocabulary in one sentence?" you said in a heavy accent, acquiring a few chuckles here and there. He clenched his fist and held the picture up "You be careful now, 'sweetheart' don't you think everyone should know what your friend has been carrying around in school," he suggests, his eyes scanning everyone before settling on you. You rolled your eyes at him, knowing what he was talking about. You cast a glance over at Lira, who appeared to be having a nervous breakdown just thinking about it.

You grimaced as you massaged your brow, pondering how you should proceed with all of this. You wanted to get out of this mess as soon as possible and hang out with your friends. So, without a doubt, you kicked his knee, causing him to kneel in pain and claim, "Give that back to me, jackass!"

He continued to groan in pain and whisper curse words at you. You slammed your foot on the floor, causing him to stand up wobbling and clutching the picture "And why should I, huh?" he mused. "Get this in your pathetically small fucking brain, Terrence. That is mine." you said as you stepped forward, making him quiver in fear. Lira's eyes widened as she tried to intervene, but you stopped her "You're telling me that this is yours?!" Terrence stands in front of the crowd, holding up a picture of Camilo with a bunch of hearts on it. You confirmed a loud yes, causing everyone to gasp. Veve's voice seems to drown out everyone else's "SINCE WHEN THE FU-" she was cut off by Mirabel smacking her head multiple times, earning a chuckle from you and Lira.

You notice someone pushing their way through the crowd and recognize a familiar set of green eyes. You made eye contact for a brief moment before he abruptly cut it off, scratching his neck as the color red seeped into his cheeks. You scrunch your brow at the strange interaction, and Terrence's voice drew your attention back to him. "You like Camilo? Camilo Madrigal?" he questioned.

You hear a slap from across the room and a screech that appears to be coming from Veve, "OW MIRABEL AGAIN-" Lira winced at the thought of the sensation of the slap.

Mirabel: What?!

Veve: What!?

Everyone: What!!

(Y/N): What?

"Wait- Why are you as taken aback as we are?" Terrence asked, clearly dumbfounded.

Note: English isn't my native language ☆(＃××) When I'm put in a situation I didn't expect to be in, as if someone flipped a switch, I'll unconsciously use my native language idk I just wanna put that out there also maybe that’s why I make Veve and Mirabel speak their native language in dire situations.

I have this rough idea about continuing this story- I'm still contemplating on it. I prolly will or else the title wouldn't make any sense.

a non-filipino's guide to trese: ep 1

So some of my mutuals decided to check out Trese aka the Netflix adaptation of the Filipino horror comic book series that I keep rambling about here and then since well um most of my mutuals aren’t from the Philippines fshfs I decided to make a long-ass post that basically consists of me rambling about the cultural context present in Trese with fun little tidbits about Filipino folklore. I’m not an expert on Filipino mythology so um I just typed out the stuff that I know and the stuff that I looked up on Wikipedia so um take this with a grain of salt aaaaa I’ll save the extensive google scholar research ramble on folklore present in Trese for another day.

I’ll try to find the sites where I got some of the information from cause um yea I kinda had a bit of a hard time finding the other shit so um once again, take the stuff here with a grain of salt. Also, feel free to add more info if you guys got any!

SO ANYWAYS ENJOY ME RAMBLING ABOUT EPISODE 1 OF TRESE WOO

+ MRT and LRT (Manila Metro Rail Transit and Light Rail Transit) are train systems in NCR (the capital region) and yea them suddenly stopping and malfunctioning in the middle of the goddamn rail is a daily occurrence and we have been trying to deal with this bullshit for years but alas, corruption and negligence are sweet sweet drugs.

+ When the MRT broke down, you'd see a red bee in the flashing billboard right? Well that's Jollibee and that's probably the most well-known fast food restaurant chain here heck there are even branches of it abroad!

+ According to many youtube comments along with other social media posts that I am way too tired to link here, the opening theme is an Ifugao ethnic song called Balluha'd Bayyauhen but with modern accompaniments and I think the song is about a fruit called a balluha that the character in the song tries to it but cannot swallow. (someone please correct me if I’m wrong here fjkfs)

+ The first um monster that we see Alexandra interact with is the White Lady of Balete Drive. White Ladies or “Kaperosa” are a type of female ghosts typically dressed in ghostly white dresses or similar garments. According to legend, she died in a car accident while driving along Balete Drive (a two lane street formerly lined with Balete Trees which are said to be a home for spirits and mysterious creatures) in Quezon City while other accounts say she died waiting for the arrival of her lover; others also say that she was a teenage girl who was run over and killed by a taxi driver at night and then buried around a Balete tree while another variation of the tale claims that a student from the University of the Philippines was sexually assaulted and killed by a taxi driver nearby and so said ghost haunts the street in search of her murderer. There are many other variations but according to local rumor, the legend was fabricated by a reporter in 1953 in order to make an interesting story. What remains consistent in many variations is that apparently taxi drivers would be stopped by a beautiful lady asking for a ride and if one would look at the rear window, they would see that the white lady in question is bruised and drenched in blood.

+ There are a lot of mentions about "lakans" and stuff in reference to Alex and her father right? In precolonial times, the term is used to refer to the paramount ruler or the highest-ranking political authorities in Tagalog communities (so um NCR and some parts of Region 4). In Muslim communities, they are called sultans while communities with strong trade connecitons with Indonesia or Malaysia called them Rajah. Datu is umm the more generalized term though when it comes to discussing the leaders of the precolonial Filipinos.

+ So, Alex’s mom is a babaylan and back in the pre-colonial period, each barangay (which a native filipino term for a village or a district; said term is still used today to describe um divisions in municipalities like) had them and these are basically Philippine shamans and they specialized in communicating with the spirits of the dead. To my knowledge, the role of babaylan went to women and yea people assigned male at birth but then identified as female were also allowed to become babaylans and they would be treated with the same respect given to any woman back then (honestly I dunno much about lgbtq+ stuff back in the precolonial times but all I know is that precolonial Filipinos were much a lot more welcoming towards trans identities bUT THEN THE SPANIARDS CAME AND UM ERR RUINED THAT); also the writing Alexandra's mom did in that one scene with the dagger is in Baybayin - preHispanic Filipino script. I dunno what she wrote down though. .

+ Also I kinda find it funny that the people here esp those who were at the White Lady scene are um,,, not at all surprised? Like yea quite a number of filipinos have their own superstitions and beliefs and all that but um yea the people in Trese seem very used to the bullshit,,,which in retrospect, isn't at all inaccurate fsdfd I MEAN WE DEAL WITH UNSURMOUNTABLE AMOUNTS OF BS ON A DAILY BASIS SO I DON’T THINK DEAD GHOSTS WOULD EVEN FAZE MANY FSKJDS

+ The one that appears right before Alexandra talks with the duwende (the one in the manhole) is called Laman Lupa (which i guess translates to um "What is in the earth"? just um YEA THEY ARE DIRT CREATURES). normally this is an umbrella term for duwendes and nunos but in Trese they are servants of these aforementioned creatures.

+ Duwende (which came from the Spanish phrase "dueno de case" which means "owner of the house") or dwarves in Filipino folklore are known to be mischievous and magical environmental guardians. They are believed to reside in trees or under earth mounds (those that live in the latter are called nuno sa pundo or old man of the mount) which is why quite a lot of Filipinos say "tabi tabi po" or “excuse me” when wandering around a forest or earth mounds as a sign of respect and in the hopes the duwende won't torment them. If the person is friendly, the duwende can also be friendly in return and will bring that person good lucl; otherwise, those who destroy their homes by stepping on them will face their wrath in form of heartless curse and predictions of ominous and disastrous fates. A duwende's color also depends on their budhi or conscience: to my knowledge, white duwendes are kind, red ones give protection amulets, green ones are firnedly with children and the black ones give nothing but trouble.

+ Chocnut aka the snack Alex bribes the nuno with is a very yummy chocolate snack made of coconut milk, crushed peanuts and cocoa powder. They are umm about an inch in length and maybe half an inch in width so it's fairly small; that being said I WANT THE CHOCNUT THAT ALEXANDRA HAS CAUSE HOT DAMN THAT'S A BIG CHOCNUT

+ In Trese, the creatures in the MRT scene and in the warehouse Alexandra visits after she talks with the duwende are called "aswang". In Philippine folklore, it is an umbrella term for any kind of monster so um an aswang in Luzon would be very different from the aswang in Mindanao. According to what I saw on wikipedia, they can be classified in 5 categories: the vampire (self-explanatory um they drink blood), the viscera sucker (the manananggal, i'll get to that next time), the weredog (cats and pigs are also possible but um yea they target pregnant women), the witch (self-explanatory boom curses and stuff) and the ghoul (they gather near trees in cemeteries to feast on human corpses). Aswangs are often described to have a long, hollow tongue, sharp claws and sharp teeth, although they do also have human forms.

+ To my knowledge, Ibwa, the leader of the aswangs in the warehouse, is a creature from Tinguian or Itneg mythology (they, like the Ifugao, are an indigenous ethnic group in northwestern Luzon) though I could be wrong about this dksfsf Ibwa seems like an ethnic filipino term tho wah I can't remember where I once read that. But anyways, Ibwa often stalk sthe house of a dying person to steal its body. In order for the ibwa to NOT succeed in that, some people burn holes in the garments of the dead and put a sharp iron object on top of the grave since those are most powerful weapons against aswangs which is what Alexandra uses to subdue the Ibwa and kill all the other aswangs (the knife alex uses is named Sinag which means "ray of light".)

+ ALSO I AM SO SO GLAD THEY KEPT THE FILIPINO SWEARS IN THE ENGLISH DUB YES YES THIS IS A VERY GOOD JOB so lemme discuss the versatility of tangina-

+ Also umm Bossing is a nickname of Vic Sotto - one of the three pioneer hosts of Eat Bulaga! which is the longest running Philippine noontime variety show. Over time, most probably due to the show's popularity, the term "bossing" then became um slang for "boss" or "chief"

+ Translation of what Alex says when she's stirring the eye inside the cup: “In the eyes of others, secrets will reveal themselves.”

+ Sidenote: The English dub's pronunciation of many of the tagalog lines are um yea they r pretty good but they could use a bit of work but then again I'm really not that good in speaking in Tagalog so who am I to judge gkdkf sorry po guys conyo po ako-

+ Maria Makiling is arguably the most famous of all the diwatas (ancestral spirits, nature spirits, or deities) in Philippine Mythology; she is associated with Mount Makiling in Laguna as the guardian spirit of the mountain. Mount Makiling is said to resemble a profile of a woman and people associate the profile with Maria herself. She is also known as a goddess by the name of Dayang Masalanta and people would pray to her for safety and to stop storms and earthquakes. This is the shortened version of the term "Apoy ni Santa Elmo" or "St. Elmo's Fire" - this is a weather phenomenon wherein plasma is created from an electrical discharge from a rod like object in an atmospheric electric field. This phenomenon was used to warn of imminent lightning strikes or storms (there is a chapter in Noli Me Tangere where Pilosopo Tasyo talks about that bUT I'LL SAVE THE NOLI ME TANGERE RAMBLES FOR ANOTHER DAY). But according to Philippine folklore, santelmos - which are said to be souls of people lost as sea - are balls of fire that appear where accidents or big arguments happen. In Trese, santelmos (alex's santelmo being "The Great Spirit of the Binondo Fire") can be called to assist in supernatural investigations

+ Translation of what Alex says when she draws the circles to meet with the purple ghosts: "Souls, where are you off to? I'll be entering too, so please open the door."

+ Remember the scene at the train with all the purple ghosts and the woman in a veil? Yea the woman is an emissary of a goddess named Ibu and she is the Manobo (again, another indigenous ethnic group but this time they're from Mindanao; fun fact we have around 134 ethnic groups) goddess of deceased mortals and the queen of the underworld; she also serves as a psychopomp and guides the newly deceased souls to the other side (having an MRT be the ride to the underworld isn’t in the legends tho so fkkjsf)

+ The aswang in the top hat is called Xa Mul and according to the Isneg/Apayao people (yay another ethnic group but this time in northern Luzon - the Cordillera regions to be specific), they are an evil spirit known to swallow people whole.

+ Alex has two henchmen right? Yea they are named Crispin and Basillio and No I still don’t know who’s who and I'm really sorry about that fsfjs so anyways the names Crispin and Basillio are actually those of two brothers featured in the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo novels (Crispin is younger and Basilio is older) which are basically the national novels here cause um yea written by national hero Jose Rizal as sociopolitical commentary about the Spanish regime here. I don't know if I want to spoil this cause I kinda want other people to read the novel too fskfs BUT ALL IN ALL, ONE OF THEM DIES IN LIKE THE 10TH OR 11TH CHAPTER OF NOLI ME TANGERE (and the novel has 64 chapters btw) AND UM YEA-

+ OKI SO TO ADD MORE CONTEXT TO THE SQUATTER STUFFS MENTIONED IN TRESE (we r gonna use the tiny font here because holy shit this rant is long): So,in the Philippines, especially in the capital region, there are lots of slum areas called squatters. These are dense urban settlements made of compact makeshift housing units that aren't really officially recognized by the government. This is um very reflective of the poverty situation here and there are maaany factors that come into play here and if i were to go into depth about this topic, that rant would probably turn into an academic paper so for the sake of brevity, let's just say that Things Are Fucked Up Here. Oftentimes the poorer sectors are being ignored and left to their own devices despite tons of campaign promises to make things better and easier for them. The communities that live here are incredibly vulnerable to floods, fires, and the like and afaik no concrete solutions have been in effect to protect these people and their settlements. There have also been many times where squatter areas are dismantled or demolished despite protests of people living in those areas and yea I understand the need to make space and the need for renovation but the people should still be offered some sort of temporary settlement or financial compensation thingy that doESN'T fuck them over but alas, we have an anti-poor government. That being said, I really like Trese Ep 1's portrayal of governmental negligence, but I also have some thoughts, especially in regards to the mayor being arrested THAT FAST which um believe me, NEVER FUCKING HAPPENS BECAUSE MANY MAYORS AND A LOT OF POLITICIANS HAVE THE POLICE IN THEIR POCKETS SO UM ERR YEA JUSTICE IS RARELY A THING HERE BUT UM ANYWAYS YEA THE GOVERNMENT LIKES TO SHIT ON THE POOR WOO LET'S SAVE THE USE OF SOCIOLOGICAL LENS ON THIS MATTER FOR ANOTHER DAY

How many works do you have on AO3?

33. I also have 88 in ffnet (which includes 31 of the stories also found in Ao3), and a bunch of unpublished google docs too, as well as actual docs sitting in my laptop files.

What’s your total AO3 word count?

310,978. I once calculated the word count for the Finnish fics I have (only in ffnet) and it was 157,664, so if I add that to the count in Ao3 I end up with 468,642, which is... still not the true number, because I have a bunch of English fics that only exist in ffnet too, but ehhh... let’s say roughly 500k and call it a day.

How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

19 fandoms iirc. All Hail King Julien, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Batman the Animated Series, Death Note, Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, Hazbin Hotel, Hetalia - Axis Powers, Justice League, Legend of Zelda, Lemmings, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Naruto, One Piece, Pillars of Eternity, Pokémon, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Out of which Pokémon, Dragonlance, and AtLA aren’t available for public unless you know where to look, which you don’t.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Sometimes. At one point I responded to every single one I received, but I got so many that it burnt me out and I stopped responding to any for a long time as a result. I recovered eventually and now I respond occasionally, when I feel like it - usually when someone leaves me a comment in practically every chapter of a longfic, or if someone leaves me a very long comment, or if someone asks me a question. Sometimes for no reason other than “I just really want to right now”.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Blood in the alley (Husk&Alastor)

Do you write crossovers? If so, what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Not usually. Adventure Gone Mini is the closest thing, but like... it’s the combination of two Zelda universes, so I’m not sure if it actually counts.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yes, on one fic, and the comment actually amuses me rather than offends. The fic is a horror/gore fic that is marked M (E in Ao3) which means you have to specifically search for it, its genre is horror, the summary blatantly says it’s horror/gore, the actual *name* of the fic has the word “horror” in it, and still one person commented “W.T.F. sick psychopath” on it. To me that’s hilarious : D

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I have privately written a few things, but I don’t publish any. Most of the time I’m way too repulsed to even think of writing smut, so I wouldn’t be able to handle seeing the fics in my daily kudos emails or receive comments on them on the reg.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, a few of them in a few different languages. Doesn’t count, but I’ve also translated some of my own fics from Finnish to English just cause I’ve felt like it.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

Can’t pick just one, because I’ve been at this for decades now and some OTPs just stick forever, so I’ll list a few. In no order: Gaara/Lee, Batman/Joker, Batman/Flash, Jarlaxle/Entreri, Kang/Slith, Snufkin/Moomin, Legolas/Gimli. I ship Alastor/Husk a lot, but it’s recent enough that I’m hesitant to count is as an “all time favourite” at this point. Same goes for Link/Sidon and Link/Revali.

Whats a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Yöpala (FMA) and Drakolaisen Valinta (Dragonlance).

What are your writing strengths?

I’m funny and I can spin anything into a working story if I want to. I could actually list a lot of things here, but ehhh. This is my writing blog and you’re reading this thing carefully enough to see this sentence; you already know I’m amazing and don’t need my convincing ;)

What are your writing weaknesses?

I’m slow at writing in English. There are probably other things too, but if I knew what they were I’d work on fixing them, right?

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

If it’s justified and makes sense in the story itself, go for it. However, it only applies to the occasional single sentence, not entire conversations, which should either be like:

They switched to Spanish. “Hey, I’m speaking Spanish now and it’s in italics for clarity!”

He had no idea what the people around him were talking about; he was pretty sure they were speaking in Spanish or maybe Portuguese or something, but he didn’t speak it himself so it was pure gibberish to him.

If the character whose POV we’re on is supposed to understand it, keeping it in -insert language- is pointless. If the character doesn’t understand it, spelling it out is usually pointless and makes your readers frustrated and confused in a not-fun way if it lasts for too long.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Pokémon; I was 11 or 12 and only my mom and maybe my big sister read it after I literally printed it out. I still have the print, but the file hasn’t existed for two decades. As for online fandom, Sonic when I was 16.

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written?

Either “Shit, the Radio Demon is a part of my afterlife” or “What boundaries?”

Chess Theory 2.0

This theory comes from a discussion me and my fellow theorists had after this ask was posted:

I really love the idea of the black and white representing the battle between the CRM and the Commonwealth. We can’t know for sure if it does, but given everything leading up to this point in the story, it definitely could. My fellow theorists and I had extensive discussions about this, with @wdway especially contributing a lot of thoughts and research.

@wdway:

Starting with the ask, I love it so much and believe they could be quite right that the black could represent the CRM and the white the Commonwealth, and they could be at odds with one another and our group. TF will be caught in the middle.

Since I feel strongly that Beth could be tied to Eugene's group’s storyline, that would make her white. Rick we know is with the CRM, which makes him black. If both Beth and Rick are fighting independently within these two groups and that would make them neither black nor white but gray. This is the part that I've said for quite a while: that gray represents a middle ground, it's neither black nor white.

Beth and Rick in Coda. I chose this shot because they almost look like one unit. Both in gray from behind so that Beth's yellow shirt is not a distraction to the gray that ties these two characters together.

I also love the fact that the red machete could easily belong to either one in this shot. And with a thought that colors have different meanings for different scenes, I believe in this particular case, the gray represents that the scene is not as black-and-white, as clear cut as it seems, that there are things going on here that the viewers are not aware of. It has shades of grey for these two characters.

Also, it could tell us why Daryl wore one white leg tie and one black leg tie. They represent the two people that he loves and will lose, believing they are both dead. He will search for them both and not be able to find either one.

Twdmusicboxmystery: Breaking into @wdway’s thoughts here just to have a wowza moment. Can you see how they’ve set this up from the start? Can you see how it lines up? Okay, back to @wdway:

I simply could not go back to the hall scene in Coda without watching Daryl carry Beth out. This time I noticed something that I had never noticed before. @Frangipanilove, this one is especially up your alley. Look at the walkway right behind Daryl. On the left side, there is two parallel lines =. On the other right side is a directional symbol <. How have we not noticed this before?

I then wanted to look at the Commonwealth soldiers, so I went to the episode 16, when Eugene's group is surrounded and again I noticed something that I didn't before.

PM 110 and RX 04. I'll start with RX, we have always attached the "X" to Beth, it can also stand for the number 10, and it has multiple meanings. When paired with an R (which could possibly stand for Rick) RX is a medical or drug symbol used for a Latin word, "recipe" meaning "to take." Yes I Googled it. I'm not sure about the PM but 101 is the series number for s8e11, Dead or Alive Or.

@twdmusicboxmystery: Breaking in again to point out that Dead or Alive Or was one of the episode titles mentioned during the Cast Trivia Battle I posted about a few days ago. Just saying.

It's the episode that is so very full of Beth symbols that it's not even funny. There also Tara and Dwight's conflict and Daryl trying to take the children/people of AZ to Hilltop.

I do want to note in the photograph above if you look at the desk you see droplets of black paint against the white top. Like I said, every symbol that we can imagine for Beth is pretty much in that episode.

Love this! It actually does get my mind spinning. I had to google the meaning of PM and the literal meaning is the Latin “post meridiem”, which of course translates to “after noon”. We have all these Dawn references and midnight references and clocks etc on TWD, so an “after noon” reference doesn’t seem entirely out of place. I’ve been obsessed with ep 8x11 for a multitude of reasons. A bunch of Sirius references, the green Jaguar car, the Sirius piggy bank, FGs blindness, animal traps.

Mostly I’m obsessed about it because the original Noah’s t-shirt theory pointed to 8x2, when we saw the blue heron painting, but I later realized that the “2” could also point to 8x11. The radio shack is a huge Sirius symbol in and of itself, and it even ties into ep 10x11 “morning star” (Venus/Sirius reference). I’ve never noticed the = symbol and the < symbol behind Daryl. It’s incredible that we can still discover new things in episodes we’ve watched a thousand and one times already.

One thing I keep circling back to is the Governor because the white, king chess piece was so obviously a symbol for him. And I do think they used that specifically for his arc, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a foreshadow of another, bigger, future arc. And there was SO much Beth symbolism around him, especially in 4x06. And his chess piece was white, not black.

I've already gone back and started searching some things and have some ideas that will connect Beth with white and Rick with black symbolically that I'm excited about. I've already solved the problem of the white chess piece connected to the governor and I think you will love my findings.

I was thinking about the gray and Beth’s sweater and Rick's shirt in Coda, when suddenly I remembered that it was not Beth's first sweater. Her first sweater we saw in Still and it was white.

Now, this sweater has been talked about a lot through the years. White typically stands for purity, both in body and in mind and I think you can we can use both for Beth in this example.

When Beth stands next to the Rich Bitch walker, I think it's a matter of purity of the heart. The Rich Bitch, although outwardly she's in white. she was not a person with a pure heart. What color a person wears on the outside doesn't necessarily reflect in color of their soul. Not all white is good not all black is bad.

Shortly after Beth put on the white sweater, she is covered in blood and she removes it. You would still call it a white sweater, but it has stains that cannot be removed. Her soul will always be white, but she will have strains that cannot be removed. The next time we see her in a sweater it will be a light gray, more white than black. It represents coming to grips in the world that she is in now and will be in the future.

The challenge is, if Beth represents white, what does that mean about the Governor’s white chess piece? We know the Gov was not pure of heart, so how could he be white?

When the Governor originally found the chess board and was teaching Megan the game, he is black. It was Megan that draws that eye patch on the white king because outwardly he seemed to be pure of heart, but he was not. It was an illusion. He was a black king chess piece. So, what about the fact that Rick is black, does that make him a villain? Does he have an evil heart? I believe that Rick has always struggled with his dark demons. It's in the fact that he desires to be noble and good, even though he can do bad things, his desire is pure, to have a white heart.

The next couple of shots was just confirmation that Beth will appear as white and Rick as black. Her shoes from Slabtown.

One shoelace is white, the other is black. When I went back to look at the shoelaces, for the first time I realized that her shoes are gray. Love that.

This, I'm sure you will recognize as being from Coda, just before the exchange of prisoners.

I'm always harping about the fact that diamond shape represents Beth, a square represents Rick. You can turn the square on its side, and it becomes a diamond. If you go back and look at the chessboard, it's a huge indication that I'm correct. If you look at the board from one angle it is blocks of squares if you look at it slightly from the side, it's diamonds.

So here, Beth is in the hallway and she will end up standing in the middle of the white diamond on top of the black square. Beth and Rick could have similar but different stories. They’re both in rebel groups, fighting for the same type of cause but in different locations. I think if that's the case, especially with Beth, we could see her appearing to be on the inside, a villain type, but in reality, more of a double agent.

They showed us in Slabtown how she could manipulate and play the game that she had to in order to survive and get what she needed.

This picture is from Dead Weight, from the cabin that the Gov searched. There are a lot of Native American symbols in that cabin and this one stood to me. It is a dreamcatcher.

This next picture is of the room in WHWGO, I'll remind you that on the corner post of the bed is a small dreamcatcher.

I think this links the two episodes together. It's hard to imagine that they would put so much symbolism and foreshadowing all in one episode, so they spread it out over several episodes and seasons. In this bottom shot, we have a black helmet sitting on top of some type of communication equipment, a telescope for gazing at the stars, a poster about science fiction with a rocket on it, a small toy helicopter on the side table. And of course we have the Dreamcatcher which imo is pointing to the next stage of clues. The other things that tie this episode and the Gov's episodes together.

Hard to get any bigger tie than the Governor himself, surrounded with military and water symbols.

Maybe there is another symbol that could tie this to the past and future storylines.

A shot of the Gov and Beth together in this room. Even though he is not in this shot, Rick later, at the end of episode, comes into this room. Rick, Beth, and the Gov at some point are surrounded in this room with a helicopter, rockets, airplanes, and a ton of water symbols.

What did I hear you ask? But there are no chess objects? That might be true in a material way, but I believe the conversation between Ty and the Gov was definitely a chess play, a game of strategy, moving back and forth, a power-play of sorts.

So that's all I have for you right now.

Love all this! When I was putting together my Divine Comedy Theory, I was thinking about AOW (because that’s when we saw the “Abandon all hope…” sign) and that maybe AOW was a type of the CW vs CRM war. Most of the major conflicts probably have been. The fall of the prison. AOW. Certainly TF vs the Whisperers. Maybe even Terminus. This idea is just making me re-think everything. I’m sure if we went back and rewatched, we’d see more clues than ever.

There was one thing that I meant to mention from Live Bait. In the nursing home, we see the woman in the yellow wheelchair. She is wearing a white gown with black trim. She had marks on her feet to make her a Christ symbol figure and we've always connected her with Beth because of the yellow chair.

Now I'm thinking she could represent white/Commonwealth and black/CRM. Because now we not only have Beth as a Christ figure symbol, but we have Rick also. Something that we did not have before the last couple of seasons. It seems easier to connect Beth to the color white. We have been doing that for years and thinking she could be at the Commonwealth and could be a part of Eugene's storyline fits with what could be coming.

Rick is harder when looking to past seasons and connecting him to the color black, but we know for certain that he was taken by the helicopter people and been told by tptb that he is with the CRM. From all that we've seen, their military color is black.

Just want to point out that in 8x12, The Key, there’s definitely a black theme going on. Rick crashes a black car,

everything in the basement he and Negan go into is black, Negan is wearing a black coat,

(I don’t think Rick’s shirt is black, but it’s dark enough to look black here:)

and even the sign, “Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here” is written in black.

We’ve always knew this was foreshadow of Rick’s disappearance in the helicopter group and it does suggest a black theme.

The other thing I noticed is that in the pic of Beth’s shoelaces, it’s specifically the WHITE lace/shoe was spattered with blood, just like her white sweater in Still.

So, those two symbols are probably synonymous. I don’t have much to add for how to interpret that beyond what we’ve already said, but it’s interesting. But I guess this is the other thing I was thinking about the Gov’s S4 episodes. And there’s no way to know this for sure. But because we saw Native American stuff in the cabin he stayed in, and also around the Wolves, and both of those are heavily paralleled to Beth, I guess I’m wondering if the Native American stuff will somehow be fulfilled in this CW/CRM war stuff.

I love that you mentioned the blood spatter on Beth's white sweater and the shoe with the white laces. I made note of it and meant to mention it and forgot. Another thing that came to my mind in looking at the Native American stuff in the cabin is it reminded me of Ezekiel in past seasons wearing feathers in his hair. He is now with Eugene and company being held by the Commonwealth and needing medical attention.

I know it may just be wishful thinking but when we first saw the Kingdom it screamed Beth. At Grady, we saw Beth in a medical setting, learning from Dr. Edwards being his assistant which in the dead world is the new form of medical school. Fast forward, if she is with the Commonwealth it would be more than likely in some kind of medical position with the possibility of Beth and Ezekiel meeting. And gives a purpose to the painting of Beth at Hilltop to be recognized by Ezekiel. There's the question of did Eugene see Beth at Grady or was he still unconscious, if so then there again the painting.

Yes! Can't help but think that Ezekiel, Carol's husband and the love of her life and Daryl's love Beth could possibly meet in the Commonwealth. That this could lead to them all coming together and then torn apart. My headcanon is that something will happen, probably to do with his cancer and Ezekiel will be sent out west and Beth will go with him. I can imagine their first meeting, Elijah keeps looking at Beth asking, do I know you, you look so familiar. And they start talking about the fact that Beth is from Georgia and it all comes together. Please don't let the writers pass up this great opportunity, especially when it seems that they've been setting this up the whole time.

Yeah for sure! Love that! I’ve always thought about maybe him mentioning that his wife is named Carol. And maybe she doesn’t even think it’s the one she knows bc more than one person can be named Carol, right? But through conversation or more details, just as your head canon above, they realize this is the Carol she knows. Scenes like these would be so much fun!

You guys discussed the blood on Beth’s white cardigan and on the shoe with white laces. It’s actually something I’ve thought about before, though I still don’t know what the most precise interpretation of it should be. But I’ve mentioned that I believe shoe/leg/foot references allude to the trunk of a car (because boot is Australian and British for trunk). Also, I believe that TPTB sometimes use the human trunk to allude to the trunk of a car (the upper body walkers coming out of the back of a car in WHAWGO, the library guy hanging from a bridge that had an x painted on his upper body, Beth’s blue hospital scrubs, Noah’s t-shirt and loads more).

Well, we see Beth get blood spatter on her upper body in Still, and we see the shoe with the white laces get a similar type of blood spatter in Slabtown. These could be trunk references.

How should we interpret it then? I don’t have anything groundbreaking on that. Just that it appears to be further evidence of an injured Beth somehow ending up in the trunk/back of a car. So basically, not anything I didn’t already believe in, but it certainly fits the symbolism language.

That’s pretty much what I have to add to the chess theory for now. As you can see, our conversations can meander and include things like headcanons. (I’d love to tell you we’re all symbolism business all the time, but that’s just not true. ;D). Anyway, hope this gets you all excited for what’s to come. It’s only a theory for now, but as you can see, there’s some pretty compelling evidence. HypMic 3rd Western Poll May 2020

Thank you for your participation! These are the final results for the 3rd HypMic unofficial Western fandom poll. After a month of work on this, we’ve got some estimates for general fandom opinions. Do you agree with the general opinions, or disagree? Let us know!

Please click the read more to view our results!

The sample size was limited to 1000 votes, giving a rough indication of the demographic of consumers outside of Japan as well as opinions. The word ‘Western’ has been used, but we have opened this poll to those who were able to read enough English to understand this poll. As such, it is considerably Euro/American-centric.

This poll received the most activity through Twitter, given that the series is most active on that platform. The poll was also posted on Tumblr, Facebook and the HypMic wiki. Commentary has been given on sections of the poll.

Results will be posted on Twitter and Tumblr.

THE CONSUMPTION OF HYPMIC

This section is to be read as ‘What percentage of HypMic English fans have consumed x media?’ The drama tracks and songs have been split by album. Manga bonuses have not been included in the first two questions as at the time of this poll the 2nd Manga songs/dramas were being released so it would be unfair to add them to the poll.

BAT and DH order is written as such due to later stats in the poll where Doppo and Sasara were next to each other but their official colours were too similar so I used the order in Division All Stars songs rather than release order.

Pre-Season: Referring to the start of a battle season.

Battle Season: Referring to the battle/versus songs or dramatracks

1st Manga Bonus Songs: Songs that were included with the manga

DAS Songs: Division All Stars songs - songs that include the whole cast

Merch: Anything that is official HypMic merchandise or has content of HypMic. Plushies, nendoroids, magazines, stickers etc.

Shibuya Division: Fling Posse Drama Tracks and The Loneliness, Tears, and Hope of a Puppet are the most listened to drama tracks of their respective pre-season. Both belong to Fling Posse.

The debut drama tracks of Dotsuitare Honpo (Back Again, Partner) and Bad Ass Temple (The Heart’s Conviction Can’t Be Broken) were listened to less than the other debut drama tracks.

Yokohama Division: MAD TRIGGER CREW Drama Tracks and Chaser from the Past (Matenrou: Before the 2nd DRB) were the least listened to dramatracks of their respective phases of the pre-seasons.

The Champion album has the least listened to drama tracks (Testimony and Me Against the World).

In all cases, the songs have all been listened to more than the respective drama tracks for their album.

The 1st Manga Bonus songs have not been listened as much as the other songs.

This can be due to the fact that these songs cannot be accessed for free legally.

The most listened to songs are the Division All Stars songs with the full cast.

This can be due to the fact that these are the only songs that are available in their entirety on YouTube.

Fling Posse has the most listened to songs of both pre-seasons.

Buster Bros!!! has the least listened to songs of the 1st pre-season and Matenrou has the least listened to songs of the 2nd pre-season.

The Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- side D.H & B.A.T manga was released as the poll was being conducted, so was not included in this poll.

-Before the Battle- The Dirty Dawg is the most read manga. -Division Rap Battle- side B.B & M.T.C is the least read manga.

By the numbers given for listening to the Spotify radio show, Hypnosis Radio, 80.4% of this sample size has listened to the radio - 19.6% have not listened to Hypnosis Radio.

Around half of the fandom has bought merch - this poll has included plushies, magazines etc. and all from official sources.

DEMOGRAPHICS

Due to the limitations of Google sheets, Africa does not show up on the chart for location as the voter percentage is too small.

The age ranges used are of a similar range to those of Japanese polls. [ARB’s recent survey and the age demographics of Comic ZERO-SUM, publisher of the FP/M manga]

93.5% of voters use translations regardless of Japanese comprehension.

The option for ‘I bought multiple CDs’ refers to both different CDs and multiple of the same CD during the battle season.

Of those who were around for the Battle Season, 15.66% of this group did purchase a battle CD.

CHARACTER VOTING

For comparison, here are the rankings from the previous poll (January 2020), From Japan (October 2018) and the Yumejoshi poll (December 2019)

Names marked in GREEN show an increase in vote percentage. Names in RED show a decrease in vote percentage. Names in BLACK show that their popularity rank has not changed. Names in BLUE show the character has been added to the polls through voter suggestion.

1.2% of votes had a minor character as one of their favourite characters (Ichijiku, Nemu and Yotsutsuji - No other minor characters were suggested).

These polls vary in selection method as our polls looked at the top 3 votes of each character.

From Japan’s method has been stated as a poll but we were unable to find the original. Rio and Jiro’s reason for being unranked is unknown.

The Yumejoshi poll was done by people suggesting their favourite characters for rankings, meaning that it was not entirely based upon HypMic. What is shown here are those who ranked. The ranking in their picking of a 100 is listed against them.

These three polls have varying demographics. From Japan’s spread seems to be more broad, while the Yumejoshi poll is specifically yumejoshi/female. Our polls were taken only for English speakers. In addition to this, there is some bias based on who the poll was spread through followers.

For example, the poll was created by a Gentaro stan and main supporters of this poll are Dotsuitare Honpo stans.

Doppo dominates the polls in both English-speaking and the Japanese fandom.

Characters who received less than 1% of the votes are listed as other: Jiro (0.8%), Rio (0.9%), Rosho (0.2%), Rei (0.4%), Hitoya (0.5%)

The only significant change in division rankings shows that Buster Bros!!! are now more popular than MAD TRIGGER CREW.

Dotsuitare Honpo is the lowest in both the favourite division rankings and perceived lyrical skill.

For our final question, we asked “What are your hopes for this battle season? Any plot points, theories etc. that you want to mention.” This question was not required, but we received around 300 answers to this. We condensed the material into basic categories so you don’t have to sort through all 300.

Here are some choice points made about the plot:

Although efforts made by WHO, the unverified sources of information are the most popular as over the last months, posts of WHO and CDC gathered only several hundred thousands of reacts while other sites that share conspiracy theories and hoaxes gathered over 52 million [8].

As the effect of coronavirus COVID-19 has been getting worse, 7 prefectures including Tokyo finally activated emergency declaration. Some companies and schools might have promoted to work from home or held meetings online beforehand, but there will be more increasing demands of them hereafter.

So we, the members of WINDOWS FOREST decided to have an online meeting. In fact we have introduced the system of working from home since 7 years ago, so we already have the perfect environment for online meeting. Though still, we often feel it enough to contact with other members with text chats and now we realize that we haven't had online meetings except for reviewing or checking applications.Fortunately we have \2,000 paid out of the chief editor's own pocket, so we got something to drink and eat each together. The attendees are 3 people below. We determined to use only tools of Windows because we work for "WINDOWS FOREST". It also follows that we don't use any smartphones or tablets.

1."Skype Meet Now" is easy to use and full of convenient features

At first we tried "Meet Now" on Skype which you can have online meetings by getting and sharing the unique link.

The feature starts to gather attention because of the coronavirus peril, though it has been added long time ago.

The strongest trait for this service is that you feel free to join with Skype on the browser and don't need to install Skype application. You neither have to inform the others your account in advance, nor to follow each other.Better to be able to save time.

But when we try it, some troubles has occurred on H's environment. His microphone doesn't work on the Skype website as a matter of the fact.The issue gets better when he switches from the website to the application, but the sound volume is still too small for the other members to listen to.

This trouble is a deathblow for him that the microphone doesn't work well, though the feature for sharing desktop and specific windows and another one for blurring background is good for him since his room is messy. Plus Skype on UWP also often crushes on T's environment, so we consider it unstable.

Skype Meet Now is good for---

-Starting online meeting quickly-All you need is sharing the link to members.

-Attractive Features-Makes it possible to blur backends, record the conversation, and share the screen that you're looking at.

-Safety-Skype is traditionally famous for its reliability.

Skype Meet Now doesn’t seem enough for---

-Quality-The issue that the microphone doesn't work might occur on some client's devices.

2."Google Meet/Hangout" works well without any troubles!

The next one we tried is "Google Hangout Meet", which is about to be renamed to "Google Meet". The director Y has invited us since he is familiar with "Google Meet".

In our conclusion, this one worked so well and we didn't have any troubles.

If I must say something, its picture is not so good and the reason why it happens is that the image quality is set "low" on initial setting.

That doesn't matter if you set it to higher level on the setting screen.

In addition, the "Google Hangout" is also user-friendly that the users except for the "G Suite" members can use without sign-up.

There is the feature for sharing screen as well, however, it doesn't have ones for blurring your backend nor setting your favorite backend. I suppose it would be the weakness of that.

Google Meet/Hangout is good because---

-it's Handy and Steady-works well with no troubles, and also works as well as Skype Meet Now. Highly recommend you use this!

Google Meet/Hangout is not enough for---

-the variety of the available environment-this basically works only on the browser since there're no applications for that.

-the features for backends-this revealed that H's room is messy because there're no features to blur its backend.

3."Facebook Messenger" might cause troubles to some of client's camera....

Now let's move on to the "Messenger" reviewing, which is the version for desktops of Facebook, and also is introduced on one of our news articles.

We got stuck to add the other members to own friend list because nobody of us has gotten in touch with Facebook each other. We were finally able to start chatting, but a tragedy that Y's babiniku; using a beautiful girl as his digital avatar has been broken fell upon us! In addition, the camera that T was using was not set front-fixed, but rear-fixed for some reason. According to that the camera kept catching the TV screen in his living room instead of his face. We couldn't find any features to switch the setting of camera and so this application murdered us.

Well, we don't have to see the actual face each other to have drinking party, but there must not make any sense to have a meeting online. It's no longer enough for us to chat only with voices in other words. That's why we haven't evaluated it highly.

Facebook Messenger is good for---

-Nothing, sorry-it might be useful if you often use facebook heavily.

Facebook Messenger is not enough because---

There have been troubles with cameras and we have no idea to solve them.

4.We can't add each other on "LINE"?!

The last tool we have tried is the video-chatting feature on "LINE". When you think of its feature you imagine a new feature for sharing screens which have recently added as a result of rising demand of online meetings because of coronavirus. However we have looked forward to using this...

Then a problem happened that Y haven't finished the age-verification to activate MVNO! That seems impossible to search your friend if you haven't completed the verification. You maybe can add friends with your smartphone but it is regarded against the rules today.

Therefore we stumbled upon the first step to adding each other. We finally concluded "Google Hangout" would be fine instead of this because we got so drunk at that time. Sorry we couldn't to verify it enough.

Mobile LINE is good for--- -Having various kinds of funny effects.

Mobile LINE is not enough for---

-Adding friends smoothly because one of us cannot prove that he is already over 18 years old even though he is now middle-aged.

Our Conclusion

The important point what we thought through trying some video-chatting application is what application we should use together. You must take some time to decide what kind of service you use, install the client application, and set up your account--- you may be bored to get them all done. In that respect we find it so convenient that Skype Meet Now and Google Hangout allow us to get together through creating a web link.

Of course we find some points that we don't feel it great so much of web applications, though. Especially blurring backends on Skype is so a good feature that you probably can't stop it once you use. It makes sense that function on Zoom is also famous, which we haven't tried for some reason.

But the most essential thing is that you can use it on any situation, any environment. So it was too bad there wese some problems we had on Skype and Messenger. We hope it will be improved at an early date.

The Biggest SEO Trend You’re Ignoring

The screenshot above is my Google traffic over the last 12 months.

As you can see, my traffic is growing. And there are many reasons for that, but there is one trend that’s really caused the majority of my SEO growth.

You might be thinking it is Ubersuggest because it makes up 22.4% of my traffic now. But Ubersuggest has been integrated into NeilPatel.com for years, so that’s not it.

Sure, that is responsible for some of my growth, but it’s not responsible for it skyrocketing like it has been.

So, what do you think it is?

Well, I’ll give you a hint…

My traffic per region

Let’s look at my SEO traffic in a few different regions.

Here’s my traffic in the United States over the last 12 months:

You can see that they have all increased, but not enough to cause the big spikes.

Now let’s look at some of the international markets we have been focusing on over the last few years.

And here is the first international market we expanded to, Brazil.

As you can see, the international markets are growing at a much faster pace, especially Brazil. But that is because we have been focusing on our SEO in Brazil more than any other country (outside of our main English markets).

Why you may ask?

Because a Google employee told me to

The most vital SEO lesson I learned came from a friend at Google, but they didn’t tell me anything that was really a secret…

They told me that the majority of the searches on the web aren’t done in English, they are done in other languages.

And in the English markets, everyone is competing, which means tons of sites and content from Google to choose from when it comes to determining which site should rank number 1 for any given keyword.

But the international markets are the opposite. There is a lot of demand but not enough sites for Google to choose from when it comes to rankings.

So even though there are tons of algorithm updates and SEO is becoming more difficult, it isn’t always the case with many international markets.

And the graphs above show it. As you can see, I’m getting huge traffic growth in those regions.

So, what should you do? Especially if you are starting off and don’t have a big budget or any budget for that matter…

Follow Amazon

Wherever you see big corporations like Amazon investing, it means there is money to be made in those regions.

Amazon has invested billions into regions like India:

Amazon originally decided to take a long view on India and invest 2 billion dollars.

Then they decided 2 billion wasn’t enough so they increased it to 5 billion.

And then they decided to add in another 2 billion dollars.

Amazon is investing a billion dollars to digitize small and medium businesses.

It’s safe to say over the years Amazon will poor in well over $10 billion into India.

That’s a big bet for someone to make. And you can assume it’s a calculated bet because they think there is much more money to be made.

And it’s not just India…

Amazon is investing $236 million into Brazil to boost up their cloud infrastructure. And they’ve invested over $2.26 billion dollars in France. They are pretty much going after the whole world.

As you can see from the graph, Germany is its second-biggest market and Japan is also up there. But what’s interesting is the green bar as that represents the “rest of the world” and that green bar has been growing at a fast pace.

Now, I get that none of us are Amazon and we don’t have huge budgets, so I wanted to take a minute and break down how you can do this on a global scale without breaking the bank.

International SEO on a budget

When I first started to expand internationally, my business was much smaller and we didn’t have much money, if any, to spend on international SEO.

Yes, I am an SEO, so you would think that it makes it easier, but not really because the only language I am fluent in is English.

And if you fast forward to today, I’m still only fluent in English, but we have 7 offices around the world.

And we did it without laying out any of our own money. Yes, it did take time and it will for you too, but that’s the only way to do it when you are starting off and are small.

So how did we expand internationally without spending upfront?

We partnered with locals.

Why not find people in these regions who speak English as well as the local language of the country you are trying to expand to?

There are so many people without jobs, you’ll be shocked by how many people will be open to a partnership. All you have to do is look at Facebook groups and forums to find people in your space who live overseas.

Here’s how I structure each partnership:

I have the person, or a group of people, translate my content to that region’s language.

I have them read my English blog posts so they can learn SEO (if they don’t already know it… nowadays I look for people who already know SEO as I have been doing this long enough and can spend some money).

In exchange for them growing my traffic in that region, I give them a portion of the profits I make within that region. You can structure where you give them anywhere from 10% to 30%. You don’t want to go too low on the profit-sharing as you want them to work hard, but you also don’t want to go too high where you are giving away everything.

They put in the work each day, and they have 3 months to show some traction, and within 6 months they should have significant growth. Keep in mind it is less competitive, so it is easier to get results. You can also work with them on creating goals and milestones.

If they don’t show results, the partnership ends, and I don’t have to give them anything. If they show results, we keep pushing forward.

Now that we’ve covered structuring your international SEO expansion, let’s go over how you do it.

International SEO

I’ve written a handful of blog posts that break down the steps on growing your traffic in new languages and countries, but before I share them, I wanted to break down the 2 biggest lessons I learned:

Transcribe the content, not translate – when you work with a partner overseas, they may think you want your content translated or that you want content written in their language just like how people would write the content in the US. That won’t work because cultures are different and keywords are different, so transcribe the content and adjust it to each country.

You want a partner that lives in that country – if you expand into a country where you don’t have a partner on the ground you won’t see great results. By having people on the ground, you can more easily build up your brand, which has a big impact on rankings.

And follow this to setup SEO correctly for different languages and countries. Keep in mind that Google doesn’t penalize for duplicate content, so don’t worry about having similar content or the same content for different regions.

But don’t focus on those results. I want you to look at the regions that make up some of your competitions’ traffic… you’ll see that number next to each flag.

Click on one of the regions that you are considering expanding into. You’ll now see the results adjusted.

As you can see from the screenshot above, those are all of the pages on my site that are really popular in Brazil.

Now, I want you to click on “view all” under “Est. Visits” as that will show you all of the keywords that drive traffic to that page.

This will provide you with a laundry list of international keywords that you can give to your team so they can start creating content to go after them.

I also want you to click on “view all” under “Backlinks” as this will show you who links to your competition. You can then create a list of sites to reach out to so you can get them to link to you.

That’s the simple strategy we used to hit it hard in regions like Brazil and what we are also doing in countries like India, Spain, Mexico, France, Germany, and countless other countries.

Conclusion

English is a great language. And I love the United States as well as other English-speaking countries.

But that’s not where the opportunity is. There is more opportunity in global markets, which is why you need to follow the trend of international SEO.

Even if some of these countries don’t have as high of a GDP compared to the United States, it’s fine. Remember there aren’t as many competitors, which means you will have a lot of opportunities to still do really well.

The Biggest SEO Trend You’re Ignoring

The screenshot above is my Google traffic over the last 12 months.

As you can see, my traffic is growing. And there are many reasons for that, but there is one trend that’s really caused the majority of my SEO growth.

You might be thinking it is Ubersuggest because it makes up 22.4% of my traffic now. But Ubersuggest has been integrated into NeilPatel.com for years, so that’s not it.

Sure, that is responsible for some of my growth, but it’s not responsible for it skyrocketing like it has been.

So, what do you think it is?

Well, I’ll give you a hint…

My traffic per region

Let’s look at my SEO traffic in a few different regions.

Here’s my traffic in the United States over the last 12 months:

And Australia:

You can see that they have all increased, but not enough to cause the big spikes.

Now let’s look at some of the international markets we have been focusing on over the last few years.

Why you may ask?

Because a Google employee told me to

The most vital SEO lesson I learned came from a friend at Google, but they didn’t tell me anything that was really a secret…

They told me that the majority of the searches on the web aren’t done in English, they are done in other languages.

And in the English markets, everyone is competing, which means tons of sites and content from Google to choose from when it comes to determining which site should rank number 1 for any given keyword.

But the international markets are the opposite. There is a lot of demand but not enough sites for Google to choose from when it comes to rankings.

So even though there are tons of algorithm updates and SEO is becoming more difficult, it isn’t always the case with many international markets.

And the graphs above show it. As you can see, I’m getting huge traffic growth in those regions.

So, what should you do? Especially if you are starting off and don’t have a big budget or any budget for that matter…

Follow Amazon

Wherever you see big corporations like Amazon investing, it means there is money to be made in those regions.

Amazon has invested billions into regions like India:

Amazon originally decided to take a long view on India and invest 2 billion dollars.

Then they decided 2 billion wasn’t enough so they increased it to 5 billion.

And then they decided to add in another 2 billion dollars.

Amazon is investing a billion dollars to digitize small and medium businesses.

It’s safe to say over the years Amazon will poor in well over $10 billion into India.

That’s a big bet for someone to make. And you can assume it’s a calculated bet because they think there is much more money to be made.

And it’s not just India…

Amazon is investing $236 million into Brazil to boost up their cloud infrastructure. And they’ve invested over $2.26 billion dollars in France. They are pretty much going after the whole world.

Now, I get that none of us are Amazon and we don’t have huge budgets, so I wanted to take a minute and break down how you can do this on a global scale without breaking the bank.

International SEO on a budget

When I first started to expand internationally, my business was much smaller and we didn’t have much money, if any, to spend on international SEO.

Yes, I am an SEO, so you would think that it makes it easier, but not really because the only language I am fluent in is English.

And if you fast forward to today, I’m still only fluent in English, but we have 7 offices around the world.

And we did it without laying out any of our own money. Yes, it did take time and it will for you too, but that’s the only way to do it when you are starting off and are small.

So how did we expand internationally without spending upfront?

We partnered with locals.

Why not find people in these regions who speak English as well as the local language of the country you are trying to expand to?

Here’s how I structure each partnership:

I have the person, or a group of people, translate my content to that region’s language.

If they don’t show results, the partnership ends, and I don’t have to give them anything. If they show results, we keep pushing forward.

Students of history will find eerie but quite predictable parallels between the collapse of the Roman Empire in the 4th Century AD and the collapse of America’s global hegemony today. Not only has the choice of political so-called leaders become the near-exclusive province of big money patriarchs and their corporate interests. The choice of politicians voters are offered is worse than abysmal. As President Barack Obama tries every sneaky trick in the book to ram through a hugely unpopular Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade corporate scam, a report has emerged that there is a staggering $6.5 trillion of US taxpayer dollars that cannot be properly accounted for by standard good accounting methods. That’s trillion, not million, not billion, but trillion. That is almost 40% of the annual USA Gross Domestic Product. Missing in action… The Defense Finance and Accounting Service, the agency that provides finance and accounting services for the Pentagon’s civilian and military members, has just revealed that it cannot provide adequate documentation for $6.5 trillion worth of “adjustments” to Army general fund transactions and data. According to a report released July 26 by the by the Inspector General of the US Department of Defense, US military budget practices are out of control. The report notes, “The Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management & Comptroller) (OASA[FM&C]) and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Indianapolis (DFAS Indianapolis) did not adequately support $2.8 trillion in third quarter journal voucher (JV) adjustments and $6.5 trillion in year-end JV adjustments made to AGF data during FY 2015 financial statement compilation. The unsupported JV adjustments occurred because OASA (FM&C) and DFAS Indianapolis did not prioritize correcting the system deficiencies that caused errors resulting in JV adjustments, and did not provide sufficient guidance for supporting system-generated adjustments.” (emphasis added) “Journal vouchers” provide serial numbers, transaction dates and the amount of the expenditure, not so complicated, or? This is no minor book-keeping bureaucratic snafu. It exposes the rampant corruption at the heart of the world’s largest military Leviathan, the Pentagon. The Pentagon report goes on to declare, “In addition, DFAS Indianapolis did not document or support why the Defense Departmental Reporting System-Budgetary (DDRS-B), a budgetary reporting system, removed at least 16,513 of 1.3 million records during third quarter FY2015…the data used to prepare the FY2015 AGF third quarter and year-end financial statements were unreliable and lacked an adequate audit trail.” (emphasis added) Translated into plain English, the US Army–and that’s only one branch of the US Armed Forces–destroyed accounting documents, did not provide an audit trail for accountability of funds allocated by Congress, and made apparently arbitrary, unverifiable accounting year-end adjustments that made it look like the books balanced, adjustments of $6.5 trillion worth. In other words they not only cooked the books, they Dixie-fried them, as in…trillion…trillion…trillion… Interesting to know there are two mammoth institutions with government ties or government agencies which never have submitted to an independent audit. One is the privately-owned but Government linked and supposedly Congressionally monitored (hardly) Federal Reserve. The second institution never to have been audited is the Pentagon. Never. The day before September 11, 2001 then US Defense Secretary Rumsfeld announced, “According to some estimates, we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions.” The story vanished the next day in the panic of 911 events. Finally, under the pressures of exploding Federal Budget deficits, Congress demanded that the Army achieve “audit readiness,” for the first time ever, by Sept. 30, 2017. No one in Washington believes that will happen. The corruption, falsification, probable fraud and embezzlement is so huge and so endemic that it will destroy any effort at transparency, buried under the cover of bureaucratic ineptitude. It’s symptomatic of the rot of Washington and a nation that only a few decades ago held a tradition of honesty and integrity in public service. If we want to give a name to a faceless bureaucracy responsible for accurate reporting of that unaccountable $6.5 trillion, his current name is Colonel (retired) Robert M. Speer, Assistant Secretary of the Army Financial Management and Comptroller, formerly with PwC, one of the mega accounting firms. Presumably he understands how to do basic accounting. Whom the gods would destroy… The title of my latest book is The Lost Hegemon: Whom the gods would destroy. It refers to the fact that the boring old patriarchs, let’s call them BOPs, such as D. Rockefeller or G. Soros or W. Buffett–oligarchs whose so-called power is based on the popular delusion that they have real power, a funny kind of hypnosis or mass delusion we nurture–that their ability to push their globalist one world fascist agenda is failing. It’s failing everywhere, whether in their use of Islam as with Fethullah Gülen in Turkey’s recently failed US coup attempt, or in their ISIS/Al Qaeda terror war against Syria to gain control of the oil and gas of the region. Or they have failed in their effort to isolate Russia or encircle China in the South China Sea. It recalls the final days of the Roman Empire which collapsed during the Fourth Century AD not from foreign invasion, but from internal moral rot and corruption. The roots of the decline and ultimate collapse of the Roman Empire, in its day also the world’s sole superpower, lay in the political decision by a ruling aristocracy, more accurately, an oligarchy of wealth, boring old patriarchs of that day, to extend the bounds of empire through wars of conquest and plunder of foreign lands. They did so to feed their private wealth and personal power, not to the greater good of the state. The economic model of the Empire of Rome was based on the plunder of conquered territories. As the empire expanded, it installed remote military garrisons to maintain control and increasingly relied on foreign mercenaries to man those garrisons. In the process of military expansionism the peasantry, the heart of the empire, became impoverished. Small farmers were bankrupted and forced to flee to Rome to attempt a living as proletarians, wage laborers. They had no voting rights or other citizen rights. In the eyes of the rich, they were simply the ‘mob’ that could be bought, manipulated, and directed to attack an opponent; they were the ‘demos,’ the masses, the public. Roman ‘democracy’ was all about mass manipulation in the service of empire. The once independent farmers were forced to leave their farms, often for years, to fight foreign wars of conquest. The south of Italy was devastated as one result. Those with money were able to buy land as the only stable investment, becoming huge latifundistas or landowners. That led to the concentration of land in a few hands, and the land in turn was worked by slaves captured in wars of conquest. Small farmer-held farms were gradually replaced by those huge latifundia, bought for booty, and the gap between the rich and the poor increased. When the two brothers Gracchus tried in the second century AD to ease the growing gap between rich and the rest by introducing agriculture reforms that limited the powers of the wealthy Senators, they were assassinated by the men of wealth. Today D. Rockefeller is one of the biggest farmland owners in America, receiving millions in taxpayer dollars as subsidy to boot. The government of Imperial Rome didn’t have a proper budget system. They too squandered resources maintaining the empire while itself producing little of value. When the spoils from conquered territories were no longer enough to cover expenses, they turned to higher taxes, shifting the burden of the immense military structure onto the citizenry. Higher taxes forced many more small farmers to let their land go barren. To distract its citizens from the worsening conditions, the Roman ruling oligarch politicians handed out free wheat to the poor and entertained them with circuses, chariot races, throwing Christians to the lions and other entertainments, the notorious “bread and circuses” strategy of keeping unrest at bay. The next fundamental change that mortally wounded the Roman Empire was the shift from a draft army made up of citizen farmer soldiers to one of paid professional career soldiers as the ever-more distant wars became more unpopular. It was not unlike what took place in America in the years after the Vietnam War when President Nixon abolished the draft in favor of an “all volunteer” Army, after the popular anti-war protest became a threat to the future agendas of the military. As conditions for Roman soldiers in faraway wars became more onerous, more incentives were needed to staff the legions. Limiting of military service to citizens was dropped and Roman citizenship could be won in exchange for military service, not unlike what is taking place now as immigrant youth are being promised US citizenship if they risk their lives for America’s wars in Afghanistan, Iraq or elsewhere. The revelation of a $6.5 trillion Army bookkeeping disaster is but a symptom. A Presidential race pitting Democrat Hillary Clinton against Republican Donald Trump is but a symptom. A nation that spends on wars everywhere in the world while ignoring its domestic infrastructure decay whose proper rehabilitation would cost an estimated $3.6 trillion, merely half of what the US Army cannot account for is, sadly, destined to collapse. Unless of course the American people get disgusted with the Sodom and Gomorrah that today is Washington, and begin to act outside the matrix.
