Macau GP 70th Anniversary
YOU. YEAH YOU READING THIS. This is me trying to pursued you to go watch the Macau GP this weekend. This track is historic and legendary. And one of the most fun and dangerous street circuits (imo) with tight corners and varying elevations. It is still the oldest (active) street circuit that still holds F3 (+other races) and isn't part of the F1 World Championship (the other being New Zealand🤝)
Since it’s the 70th anniversary and they are holding two wholeass race weekends with a BANGER entry list this year (full list at the end of the post), so why not take a trip down memory lane and talk about some iconic races and drivers throughout the years. [LONG POST, just saying][Also, surprises underneath]
Macau Grand Prix, Guia Circuit (or Circuito da Guia)—a circuit that spans 6.120km, with different elevations over 30 meters top to bottom (in non-metric terms: 2 small pine trees, or 2 volleyball courts for all non-metric people out there👍). Top speed: 260km/h for an F3 car, which is already a handful. This circuit has had little to no changes since the beginning of its grand opening. While this track serves as a stepping stone for drivers, it remains an independent circuit and race of its own. Though still having an affiliate with the FIA.
Although the first race event began in 1954, they didn’t introduce F3 until 1983. Which they had a strong start for F3 with the likes of Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger, respectively taking first and third place.
youtube
A few years later; Eddie Irvine, Damon Hill, Jean Alesi also left their marks on this race track.
But the most iconic moment came in 1990. The battle of Schumacher vs Hakkinen. The beginning of their motor rivalry.
youtube
Schumi took first place while Mika unfortunately crashed out at the back of Schumi’s car.
Jenson Button (a literal child) in 1999, second place. God works hard but those mechanics work even harder
youtube
In 2003-2004, both Lewis and Nico took part, whilst Lewis took pole and they both showed great results in qualifying. Neither of them went on to podium in both years.
2005: baby Seb starting to shine through and took third at the main race, just behind Kubica
youtube
They put a baby in a fast car
2009: Daniel, Valtteri, and Jules took the challenge. Jules started near the back end of the grid but was steady racing and finished 10th. Valtteri started 4th, had the opportunity to be on podium until he got a puncture on the last lap that saw him finish fifth. Daniel-not the best start- clipped the wall and punctured his left rear, carried on a little bit more until he crashed out of the race :( can’t find any video cuz apparently no one cared enough about 2009
2011: Valtteri’s third year in a row; the previous got him third place but this one he retired the car on lap 4 due to an accident. Kmag, da Costa, Carlos participated but all in all, half the grid retired in the end.
youtube
Pre-mustache Bottas and baby redbull Carlos
Bloop! 2014: a wild baby Max appears! Boy had good results in qualifying, placing him third, but in the quali race he lost control and crashed. Main race-7th. Nick Cassidy, Nicki Latifi, Antonio Giovinazzi, Alex Palou finished 3rd, 5th, 12th and 16th. Unfortunately, Antonio Fuoco and Estie Bestie retired :(
youtube
Yes, Max did get the fastest lap
2015: Everybody’s favourite! Charles Leclerc has entered the ring. Charlie’s aggressive attack led him to second place and on that podium. Giovinazzi-4th, Lance Stroll-8th, Nick Cassidy-12th and following close behind, my boy, Alexander Albon-13th
youtube
The race was that good even FIA had to post it on their channel lol
youtube
The infamous onboard camera
2016: we see the introduction of George Russell, Landon Norris, Callum Ilott, Guanyu Zhou and Ticktum (But we’re not gonna talk about him🤭). It was an okay race, António Félix da Costa took first (came 9th in the recent WEC👏) and Nikita crashed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That year gave us baby Lando and baby George who took his first pole *surprise🎉*
2017: A fucking great racing year, Lando came second due to Habsburg and Sette Câmara crashing out in the final corner. It’s Mick’s first year, though not the best result but did manage to snatch the fastest lap 💨
youtube
2018: it was a scary ass race and I remember standing in front of the TV just watching this. Lisboa corner is famously know for a lot of accidents, Sophia Flörsch made contact with another that send her airborne and crashed into the barriers and fractured her vertebrae. Final standing: Mick-5th, Ilott-7th, Schwartzman-9th, Zhou-11th, Vesti-15th
I’m not gonna post the video, you can go look it up if you’re interested
2019: a lot more familiar faces: Richard Verschoor, Jüri Vips (yeah that one), Logan Sargeant, Callum Ilott came back for another year, Liam Lawson with his bestie Yuki Tsunoda, Enzo Fittipaldi, Max Fewtrell🫡, David Schumacher, Felipe Drugovich, Schwartzman’s second attempt and Sophia Flörsch
youtube
3 years of absence and we are back! 2023!
This year there’s two whole weekends, from 11-12th November and 16-19th November. And they’ve a banger list of drivers like Bianca Bustamante for F4 and Richard Verschoor taking another stab at it.
Macau F4 race is happening on the 11-12th:
Tumblr media
F4 is happening the week after on 16-19th
Tumblr media
The FIA is streaming F3 on the YouTube channel (streaming f3 not f4🥲…go watch motor gp too it’s on the same day) but you could probably watch it on other streaming platforms too (you know the ones👀👀)
If you haven’t seen the Macau GP before…give it a go! It’s brilliant!
*side note: if Fernando or Lewis ever retires from f1 and have nothing else to do…I’d like to see them tackle this track (again for Lewis) maybe not f3, maybe something like GT cup or something. It would be verrrry interesting👀

I just read up your post on merc not favoring nico throughout his career. With all the british bias sky/any other medias had against him back in the day, it's definitely interesting when nico decided to join them, always made me wonder how he felt about all of that. Also, did he really sign more than 100 million euros in 2016? That's some insane negotiation skill, considering he hasn't been a wdc 😭
the thing about relationships between sports people and the media is that it's inherently weird. because yes, these people often talk shit about you on the television, but you also often see them more than you see your own family. you share flights with them, and meals, and you see them not just at work, but also in airports and train stations and restaurants and hotels. and both sides need each other. the media need drivers and team personnel to want to talk to them (and sometimes leak them information) and the drivers and teams need the media for coverage, advertising, and to drive certain narratives. and for both sides, the people that you are on camera may not always be who you are off camera, and there is a certain recognition of that.
for nico, while i would say that while the british media treated him fairly terribly during 2014-2016, there were still moments where they acknowledged how good he was. there was this very odd phase in the monza-suzuka section of the 2016 calendar, where it was looking increasingly likely that nico was going to win the championship, and sky were suddenly nice about nico. they wrote articles about how wonderful nico was as a person and said it was a shame that people didn't get to see that side of nico (even though they were the ones portraying him in a certain way), they did a review of the hybrid era and recognised that nico had had more bad luck across the era than lewis, (although lewis had probably had slightly worse luck in 2016) and where earlier race wins like bahrain, china and russia (where he began on the front row and then led all the way to the end) were described as boring and unchallenged, race wins like monza and japan (which were almost identical to the earlier wins) were described as faultless and perfect. even when they were being terrible to him, there were moments that were good.
additionally, a lot of the british hate towards nico only began in 2014. prior to that, coverage was largely positive. nico was driving terrible cars, but he was driving them incredibly well. he dragged some of the shittiest williams cars in their history to places that they should not have been, including onto the podium. i would have to check, but i'm pretty sure that during his time at williams, nico was their only podium finisher. he absolutely destroyed his teammates (the only teammate he never beat in his career was mark webber, who was his teammate during his rookie year, when they were driving a car that spent more time on fire than it did racing), and when he went to mercedes he beat michael schumacher pretty convincingly (only schumi teammate to ever beat him btw). before he became a threat to lewis, the british media were actually quite complimentary about him. so for nico, it's a question of three years of negative coverage versus eight years of pretty good coverage (personally i would still have told them to fuck off).
there's also the fact that nico does triple duty for sky, as he works for sky germany and sky italy too, often in the same weekend. so sky are willing to pay him essentially three times to do one job, which seems like a pretty good deal to me, and i don't think the german or italian coverage of him was ever quite as harsh as the british media, so that might also be a factor. he clearly enjoys what he does, he gets to show up in his little linen beach outfits, say whatever he likes, and leave as the paddock implodes because he's just dropped information that the fia didn't want anyone to know about. truly an icon.
as for the contract extension, yeah it was insane. i think it may have even been for as much as 137 million euros, almost 70 million per year, which is a legitimately insane amount of money for any driver, let alone one who has never won a wdc. as i said, i think nico actually had quite a lot of power/leverage when it came to signing the contract because of what was happening internally at mercedes at the time. also, back then, a lot of merc's biggest sponsors, hugo boss, thomas sabo, etc. were actually nico sponsors, and if he went to ferrari, they would have gone with him, so there was definitely a financial incentive to keep him, but still, georg nolte and gerhard berger definitely earned their money in those negotiations

Hiii! Tumblr or my searching skills failed me so im coming to u bc u most likely know about this and i need to know too 😳 what's the deal with nico rosberg and michael schumacher? I think i've read sth about them that triggered all my alarmas. Is there some lore we should know? Thank you 🥺 ♥️
hahhaa you've come to the right place!
uhh quick background, nico was stuck in a shitty Williams for 4 years (George Russell coded ☹️) and got the merc offer -- where the implication was he was going to lead the team, and his teammate would be jenson button 😚
Instead it was 7 time world champion Michael Schumacher, who had just passed his fitness checks post Ferrari crash and signed a 3 year deal with Merc. Mercedes were still in their flop era and were trying to push the German car with German drivers angle. The news sent Nico spiralling cause like, what's he gonna do -- not accept a long term merc deal? But also how's he supposed to compete with the GOAT? He called him "godlike" and was afraid he'd manipulate the Merc team completely against him
Tumblr media
Schumacher, according to Nico, played a lot of mind games. Michael is famous for terrorising all 10 of his teammates and now he had a petite German twink. list of crimes include making Nico pee outside in a bucket right before quails, and being... really hot? showing his six pack and for some reason that intimidated nico (alpha pheromones 🤨📸)
Tumblr media
The comeuppance here is that all 3 years Nico beat Michael 😅 Mercedes actually even made an ad about it (to show they're cool with it)
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2uE67arNYhM
youtube
Michael's German twink to mentor of choice was Seb who he adored (here's them pranking nico) -- there was always this underlying notion that Nico wasn't "German enough" (being half Finnish, and spending his whole life in monaco) Nico came into Merc bright eyed and hopeful, instead was met with a Michael who didnt particularly care for him, or thought much of him.
Nico also said he preferred Mika lolol to Michael, and considering he grew up around and was adored by Mika (finn4halffinn) it's not hard to see why
https://twitter.com/nicorosberg/status/723864441599614977?s=21&t=MshFwe5f1zRIbqcb7dPmww (here's Nico in 2016 posting the iconic Mika passing Schumi in spa)
Tumblr media
Most interestingly (to me), is this excerpt:
Clarkson: Did Michael live up to expectations?
Rosberg: [inhaling] Well, no. He didn’t.
It's the disillusionment for me!!! To see a god shatter in your face!!!
We also can't talk about Michael and Nico without the iconic dankeshen ad, which includes a Mika cameo as well 😭 the crack 2010's ads were on..... we need it back
https://p1tstop.tumblr.com/post/679117011370049536/compliments-by-the-2011-mercedes-benz-f1-team
However their dynamic was, you cannot say they did not serve and slay. peak sugar baby/daddy looks
Tumblr media
I will say when Nico talks about Michael for the vast majority it is very complimentary and respectful, and he kept track of Mick's karting/feeder series career and rooted him on (probably could relate to being the son of a wc with a famous name)
Tumblr media
learnt many things from Michael, such as Monaco 2014 🫢

top 5 f1 drivers!!!
Schumi... I'm an Italian millennial I grew up watching him smash records I'm always thinking about his silly goofy smile and also that time he was bored in retirement and he was late to the airport and took over from the cabbie and just sped like a crazy person to catch his flight. I miss him ngl
Vettel! Like many motorsports stars he burst on the scene looking like a cute dyke and then he was a cunty vicious menace who stole my heart (rbr you will never be early 2010s seb rbr). Also I'm not immune to his tragic arc as another victim of Ferrari's fail era. DELIGHTED to see him back.
Lewis. He's immense. Legendary rookie season, unparalleled swag, smashing records left and right, compelling life story, heart in the right place. I'm always thinking about his bleach blond era.
Sharl. Hands down my favourite on the grid right now, unfortunately he had me at the tragic backstory and twinky looks and I am not immune to the ferrari jesus narrative.
Fisichella! Had to stick an Italian guy from my childhood here. Australia 2005 you will always be famous.
Bonus: Alonso does NOT get a favourite spot because I want to punch him in the face but also he's a walking meme I can't believe he's still around (for better or worse). He's so iconic and if he didn't exist Briatore would've had to invent him

I'm sorry but the way some of y'all are losing it at Checo unfollowing "known Instagram lover and active Instagram user" Max Verstappen is hilarious. Besties there's been better and funnier unfollowing drama, it's sad how much y'all are hyping this up when it's pretty boring compared to the others 😭✋🏻.
Like Charles unfollowed Max after Austria 2019 and they shared a roughly three hour long flight home together lmao. I'm pretty sure it was a private plane too so literally probably just themselves on the flight 😭😭. To this day they still don't follow each other but they (well by they I mainly mean Charles) actively like each other's posts as well as random posts about the other. Like boys it's ok, you can follow each other it's been three years 😭😭.
Also correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure Charles follows every driver on the grid bar Max and Valtteri and I'm pretty sure he unfollowed Valtteri because of what he himself referred to on social media as the bowling incident in Hungary last year lmfao.
Last year, Lewis literally unfollowed everyone. Including his dog. Sometimes I still sit and wonder what Roscoe did to get unfollowed. I know it was probably for the aesthetic but it's funny to imagine the other possible reasons why Roscoe got temporarily disowned on Instagram lmao.
And the most iconic of all is other Lewis incident from back when he and Jenson were teammates at McLaren (funnily enough it was around about the lead up to the Brazilian grand prix ten years ago 😂😭✋🏻). Honestly it's better for you to read it for yourselves;
Tumblr media
Thank God we didn't have social media during Prost v Senna, there would definitely be accounts set up who's sole purpose would be to post things like; "are Prost & Senna following each other today? Yes/No", and f1mblr would be a literal dumpster fire because of the drama and chaos they caused on track during their era alone. Not even going to touch on Schumi's era 😭😭. Hell thank God social media wasn't as prominent as it is now during red bull era Seb because imagine how multi 21 alone would've gone down... It both terrifies and excites me.

THE FORMULA 1 TAG GAME! 🏎️
rules. answer the questions below!
tagged by @vinvantae tagging: everyone that wants to do it, just say i tagged you. also, @goldsainz @formulaforza @carlosheinz @chrysanthemonza
Tumblr media
1. Who or what got you into F1?
-> my family! they've been enjoying motorsports for years so naturally, i ended up falling in love too. something about forced proximity lmaoo
2. Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
-> kimi raikkönen!! as a child i would get really excited to see him on tv or on track, my parents said i recognized his car and all. i supported him always, followed his years out of f1 and all, he’s 100% my favorite of all time.
3. Who's your current favourite F1 driver?
-> i have two 2023/24 favorites: lewis hamilton and oscar piastri.
lewis has been a favorite of mine from the beginning, his racecraft has always been enjoyable to me. also, he’s one of the reasons why (alongside nico and schumi) i decided to support mercedes. he’s a big big inspiration for me, all of the things he has done are wonderful so i’ve never doubted him as one of my favorites.
oscar, on the other hand, is ofc a new addition to the ‘fav f1 driver’ list but is one that doesn’t surprise me! i saw him go up categories and loveeed his driving style. i was never a diehard fan but a supporter of his career for sure. when he got to f1 (and seb left) i knew who my new favorite was gonna be! (now i am, in fact, a diehard fan)
4. Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
-> not a pairing but…a boy band…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they live on my head rent free, the videos (and the lore) were so funny (iconic). BUT, if i had to choose a pair, i would go for kimi and seb!! i had always wanted to see them as teammates bc of how well they got along, when it happened i was the happiest. also nico and lewis were my number ones back in the day and by consequence my biggest heartbreak.
5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite team and/or favourite driver(s)?
-> everyone in the family likes something different. some have their special reasons but in general they vary.
dad’s favorites are mclaren, lauda, and senna, my oldest sister’s are mercedes and button, my older brother redbull and alonso, younger sister ferrari and verstappen (don’t even ask), and my mom’s favorites were ferrari, prost, schumacher, and häkkinen. <3
6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
-> this is such a hard question but i’ll go for the ones i rewatch the most: united states 2018, canada 2011, suzuka 2005, abu dhabi 2010, turkey 2020, and germany 2019.
7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.
-> hockenheim, suzuka, sepang, interlagos, istanbul, spa, silverstone. my lovers fr.
8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.
-> i have! i went to my first gp when i was almost one year old, it was france 2003 — nevertheless, the first one i remember going to/experiencing (faintly but i do) is the 2007 brazilian gp!
i’m lucky enough to have gone to multiple over the years and i’m so grateful to my family for it. 2022 and 2023 were the first years i was able to go by myself or with my friends/colleagues to races! (i did go a couple with my family + i go with my brother everywhere but yeah) it’s been amazing!
9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?
-> i’m very lucky to say yes, i have met a couple over the years and it’s been great! from the current grid i’ve met everyone but zhou and hülkenberg!!
10. Do you have a favourite F1 car? If so, what is it?
-> FW14B, MP4/4, W11, F2002, RB19 AAAAAAAHQHEUJW. i believe this question goes more towards the liveries but i love those cars, they were such a wonder and the WAY they were driven. ugh. amazing. i love rewatching their races.
11. Do you have a favourite one win wonder?
-> ok so, i would say george but since he’s still racing i’m not counting it. i’ll go with pastor maldonado. HEAR ME OUT. it was an insane day, i was ten but i still remember how crazy everyone felt there in barcelona, like what just happened. also insane to think about how it was pure pace, like yes he was lucky on saturday but sunday was his. ALSO having kimi on the podium is a huge bonus.
12. Do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? This can either be inspirational or hilarious.
-> “we have to remember these days. there is no guarantee they will last forever. enjoy them as long as they last.” — sebastian vettel, 2013.
“that’s for all the kids out there who dream the impossible, you can do it too.” — lewis hamilton, 2020.
“i’ve always believed that you should never, ever give up and you should always keep fighting even when there's only the slightest chance.” — michael schumacher, 2007.
“just leave me alone, i know what to do.” — kimi raikkönen, 2012.
“bwoah” — kimi raikkönen, always.

tagged by @lewishams, thank you so much my lovely!!! 💜💜💜
(put under a read more because we’re about to get rambley)
Were you a general f1 fan before you became part of teamlh or have you always been just teamlh and don’t really care for f1?
STORY TIME! (I will try my very best to be brief)
So I got into F1 through my Dad growing up, and quality of Dad aside, my happiest memories of him are watching F1 races with him (he was a Schumi fan, so I was a Schumi fan. Dad even bought me a Ferrari barbie when I was little, and apparently I used to run around saying “vroom vroom Schumacher” as a kid. I have no recollection of this). My Dad died when I was 10 and I stopped watching F1 after that bc it was just too much for me at the time.
Cut to high school in 2013, and one of my friends was talking about one of the races from early on in that season, and I mentioned that I grew up watching F1 with my Dad but stopped, and she as quickly as possible tried to get me back into it. We watched the Spanish GP at my house after a sleepover, then the next race I watched myself was Canada and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Obviously being British, I knew who Lewis was from hearing about him occasionally on the news whenever he’d win races, but my friend was a Rosberg fan and wasn’t that keen on Lewis, so I very softly rooted for him for a long time (bc I’m soft and hate conflict and Seb and Jenson were my favourite drivers by that point).
When Seb and Jenson weren’t in contention for the title, I pretty much always rooted for Lewis (also for reasons I will state in Q2). And while 2017-2019 were very rough seasons for me personally, I very slowly became a Lewis fan from the Seb and Lewis helmet swap video onwards, which has now been cemented this season since Seb retired. (😭)
[tldr: I was a general F1 fan, and very slowly over the past ten years became a Lewis fan]
Tell me one of the reasons he brings you joy. Like what can he do that brings the biggest smile on your face?
One of the strongest Lewis memories I have was from the 2014 British GP (which was the first ever race I went to, and ended up being Lewis’ first win at Silverstone since 2008). On the cooldown/parade lap, Lewis slowed down and drove as close as he could past every single grandstand to wave to the crowds. It really resonated with me then and it still puts a massive smile on my face when I remember it now. It’s a memory that I hope to carry with me for a long, long time.
Aside from that, it has been so nice over the past ten years he’s been at Mercedes to see him grow properly into his own skin and find who he is. I love how hopeful he is, and how much he always tries to be positive and see the good in things. And how he’s always willing to grow, and learn and be the best version of himself. And any time he’s with Roscoe, bc doggos.
What is your favourite Lewis comfort video?
The Seb and Lewis helmet swap vid, as mentioned above. And I love any and all Jenson and Lewis content, especially series 1 of Tooned, and them singing Wonderwall (sorry to steal your answer Lydia)
What is your favourite race? (Could be favourite f1 race or just face Lewis race lol)
As mentioned above, Silverstone 2014, but also Turkey 2020 for obvious reasons, now that I feel like a ‘proper’ Lewis fan I do want to go back and watch loads of his iconic races so drop my a list of recs if you have any suggestions! And my fave race overall is probably the 2018 British GP.
What is your favourite Lewis interview?
Stealing Lydia’s answer again bc I too loved the interview he did with Steve Jones for Channel 4 last year, and while it’s not a proper interview per se, the video Merc made of him looking at pictures of his last ten years with the team was very very sweet.
Lastly, and selfishly, recommend me your favourite podcast (if you listen to any)
I am so late to listening to podcasts bc I am a bit fussy, but for F1 I have really been enjoying The Fast and The Curious. And while I’m very far behind on it, The Shuttlepod Show for Star trek

I am sorry to hear of Lee Bender’s passing. A client of Gregor Schumi for many years. Lee was a talented artist as well as a designer and innovator in the fashion industry. Lee owned many fashion boutiques including the iconic Bus Stop (on Church street, just off of Kensington High Street) which provided chelsea and Kensington ladies the chance wear something fashionable for under £5. Last time I saw Lee we had a pleasant conversation in the garden of the Chelsea Arts Club during the summer. She will be missed by many not only for her skill and sharing of knowledge as a great teacher of fashion design but also for her kindness.. . . #leebender #fashion #fashionillustration #fashiondesgner #fashionindustry #busstopboutique https://www.instagram.com/p/CoEyUKuo-UG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

So ok guys here me out:
-2021 Champ: Valtteri
-Seb to Merc for 10 years confirmed
-Seb winning the next 4 championships with them, being the one to break Schumis record like he wished (also a big fck you to Ferrari)
Hust Angela-Britta-Susie Agenda
-Then suprise Kimi's back, taking a second Wdc win
-In the 2 years after, Checo and Danny both get a WDC
-The whole time Sewis at either Merc or AM
-Nando just chilling at Alpine
-Checo and Danny being atleast once teammates
-BRITNEY AND JENSON COMEBACK
-Both getring their second WDC with Val cuz we doin sexy things here
-Also them as teammates
And then
They all retire happy together
On the last day they break into the office of Micheal Masi and FIA and go wild
Then they break into Ferrari and steal the iconic F2004 together with Mick and drive of happy in the sunset to live on a farm in the mountains and having their best times
Beside to races, they come back to races to cheer for their grid kids
Just imagine all the dad jokes
Or some reporter trying to portray one of the drivers bad and then BAMM a Seb with Lewis and Roscoe pops up, ready to fight them on their shit
Reason? I just love them my honor

I want him to set the record at RedBull Ring too. I mean he got his 1st title at his rivals home race, at the home race of his ex rival and the person everyone thought will be the new star, in Spain, (where they also showed with blackface) he broke Senna's pole record, he then reached 100 at the same track too. He took the championship lead from Seb at his home race in Germany. Then beating both Ferraris on the track in Monza he won the title woth Mercedes. He drove one of the best races in F1 history at his own home race. He drove the best qualy lap in the history of F1 at the track when no one thought he'll be in the top 3. He broke Schumi's record for most poles in Monza He equaled Schumi's record for most wins in Germany, then set the new record at the new track. He helped Mercedes to win 7th championship at the track called Enzo Dino Ferrari, that is also a huge part of f1 history. Then just to be a little bit more extra he won his 7th title in Turkey where he won his gp2 title. And he did it in equaly dramatic way. Like name more iconic duo than Lewis and those poetic cinema moments.
I'm impressed by the list of his achievements, no one truly ever does it like him and that's more than good for him 😌👏🏻 I want it to happen at the RB track, it would be another piece of poetic cinema and I'd enjoy that!

Seb helmets: tributes/fun with flags edition
Tumblr media
Monaco 2019: not much more to say than this helmet is extremely beautiful and a great tribute to a great racer and champion
Tumblr media
Britain 2011: meet the lads
Britain 2012: the lads made this one and it is fucking iconic, the clipart skyline? the sticky tape flag? the 💎✨never lift✨💎? The *designed by sebs car crew*? Those guys love their driver and this helmet might be the best of all because it has the spirit of the team <3
Tumblr media
Germany 2018: flag stripes sexy hnnnngh so nice theres a video of how it was made on jens munsers yt channel check it out
Germany 2019: bernd scheider of dtm fame tribute helmet and also worn during sebs amazing drive from p last to p2. black lines sexy.
Tumblr media
Turkey 2020: the gaylmet. this one is perfect. the amelia earhart quote. the together as one instead of f1s half hearted we race as one. the people. the black/white. the subtle cavallino/number 5 logo. the sexy start he had in it. what a perfect little helmet someone sponsor me so i can bid in the auction
Tumblr media
Italy 2019: design is inspired by the times when drivers had a single helmet for up to two years and just patched that bitch up with electrical tape. complete with painted on scratches, chips, dents and dead flies.
Tumblr media
Eifel 2020: this one made me cry just like the gaylmet did thank you for your attention. the way schumis design is subtly 3d printed on the helmet instead of painted on? god i love it. also sebs lil bord is still there in the back.
Tumblr media
USA 2018: outside kinda boring but it's what on the i side that counts and in this case that means the extremely cool star print fabric
Tumblr media
Italy 2018: the font is still ugly but it kinda fits here and no honestly you know what in combination with the minimalist flags i actually like it but that weird grey blocky thing is confusing. a strange one.
Tumblr media
Monaco 2015: pays tribute to drivers of the 70s, i just really like the clear 5 on top and the cursive ✨sebastian✨
Tumblr media
Germany 2014: the half matte black/half glossy flag design fucks massively, as do the four stars for both sebs four championships and the german football nts four championships because i was incredibly obsessed with both of those

what do you think are some iconic/memorable schumi moments? i just got into f1 and would like to know more about him bc somehow i can’t really find anything like that about him.... just stats which are incredibly impressive but i can’t find anything about how he behaved or just anything about his personality..... thanks <3
:) Hi anon, thank you for unleashing the beast.
Ok I love you for asking me this thank you SO MUCH. Welcome to the circus I’m glad you’re here! Also yeah, Schumi is often talked about in terms of statistics and not as a human, Which is a shame bc like! Schumi is fascinating and the dynamics on the grid in late 90s F1 is so much fun! Also, this is mainly going to be late 90s -> early 2010s stuff bc I was born in 98 so uhhh I didn’t properly witness ANY 90s stuff and had to learn about it.
OK so I got super carried away but I’ve divided this into 3 sections: Drives/races that I think showcase some of his talents, human moments we need to talk about more, and Chaotic Little Bitch moments. The key thing to remember w/ Schumi is that he personally tends to be nice but as soon as you put him in a competition, Bastard Mode activates like a cat’s pupils going wide.
I am so sorry for the following short essay. Also some crashes are briefly mentioned but only ones with absolutely no injuries and there’s no details.
Chaotic Little Bitch Moments
Schumi debuted as a SUBSTITUTE driver for Jordan when one of their drivers was in police custody (yes. really.) The highest a Jordan had qualified all year was 10th and in his DEBUT at SPA, one of the toughest tracks, in the middle of the season, Schumi qualified that Jordan 7th! THEN his clutch failed before the first lap was even complete, but Benetton and Jordan WENT TO COURT to fight each other to sign him for their team before the next race in Monza. He couldn’t debut normally he HAD to cause a scene and set the tone.
The Red Strings of Fate: He qualified 7th, his iconic 7 starred helmet, his first victory next year was ALSO at Spa - his first complete race would be at Monza, Ferrari Holy Ground, and he finished 5th which 👀 1) he was immediately racing with The Greats. 2) Mr 5 Championships With Ferrari.
Winning a race by taking a stop and go penalty on the last lap, crossing the finish line in the pits, and making such a complicated argument about said penalty that in a hearing that was SUPPOSED to be Mclaren protesting the race result the stewards scrapped the entire penalty and the 3 who awarded it handed in their licenses??? Iconic.
Austria 2002 where Rubens was ordered to give the win to Michael. And then Michael fucking made him stand on the top step on the podium like “oh no no no RUBENS deserves this” and made a big SHOW out of it and its like “Michael stop you’re not making it heartwarming you’re making it WORSE Michael STOP” The Tension of germany 2010 podium VS the theatricality of THIS podium.
Team orders were banned because of this which also makes this indirectly responsible for Fernando Is Faster Than You having to be a coded message. You can’t escape him,
Blocking Alonso in Monaco qualifying and then, years later in 2010, overtaking Alonso technically illegally at Monaco (the race was ending under safety car, but the safety car doesn’t lead them over the line it pits and they’d crossed the safety car line and the regulations were NOT specific about the rules) and getting a 20 second penalty bc Damon Hill was a steward. Haunting FERNANDO specifically at Monaco like the ghost of christmas past? Getting a harsh penalty because ANOTHER driver he’d fucked over was a steward? Forcing the FIA to rewrite the rulebook to account for his nonsense when he was in his FOURTIES? I don’t know another chaos king.
Winning the 1995 championship by crashing into Damon Hill, getting AWAY with it for some reason, and then trying to do the same thing in 1997 to Villeneuve, failing to do so and simply rebounding off of him harmlessly, almost COMICALLY, and beaching his own car in a gravel trap at which point the FIA said “I have had ENOUGH of you Wacky Races Man!” and disqualified him from the entire championship
Forcing Mika off the track so bad at Spa 2000 that Mika realized the only way he was gonna be able to get past him was to re-invent the overtake and go for it whilst they were passing a backmarker. (The overtake itself is at 2:05 in the video but the build up to it is Important bc the key part it’s not just badass, it only happened bc Mika knew who he was dealing with.)
Spa 1998 was a Ridiculously Chaotic race it truly was the Mugello 2020 of its year, and after a crash at the start that took out almost the entire grid Schumi accidentally collided with Coulthard later in the race. (The teams used to have a spare car at every race then, so the race was able to continue after a restart.) This wasn’t a racing thing, Coulthard was getting lapped. So something in Schumi SNAPS, and he storms down the pitlane and tries to fight Coulthard while the mclaren and ferrari mechanics both hold him back and finally drag him away. He projected into the future, saw Coulthard was gonna talk non-stop shit about Seb, and acted accordingly.
Monaco 2012 Pole don’t talk to me about this I still can’t believe the audacity of this man to get the only pole of his comeback, at MONACO, at the ONE RACE where he had a 5 place grid penalty to take!!
In general, I know Cheating Bad but. I HAVE to admire the brainpower it must take to have the rulebook so memorized that whilst driving an F1 car Schumi could spot a loophole the size of the eye of a needle and then dance through it, forcing the FIA to add ANOTHER page to the rule book specially for him bc nobody else even REALISED that loophole existed.
Tumblr media
Human Moments
A quick rant about Mika and Schumi’s entire friendship. After Spa 2000 Mika goes up to Michael, says something like “Don’t ever do that again” then they’re friends again. They had this mutual understanding that Racing was not Reality. This goes all the way back to their F3 days they were rivals AND friends for their entire career. They truly were the Sewis of the era if Sebastian was like 50% more evil. Their entire dynamic is “You’re the only motherfucker in this pit lane who can handle me”. Schumi would do some bullshit and every other driver would throw up their hands in frustration and Mika would just go “Okay” and drive better to put him in his place bc he was the only one who could keep up, and Schumi very visibly LOVED that he’s grinning after Mika owns his entire ass with that overtake at Spa. They were unstoppable force meets immovable object and I’m so sad their rivalry isn’t more talked about bc the way Mika is the only driver who can get him to behave like a normal human being is SO entertaining.
This is a sad one so I won’t link it but he started crying in the 2000 Monza press-conference with his brother and Mika when he equaled one of Senna’s records. The press kept trying to ask questions about it and Mika just has this death grip on his shoulder and tries to get them to stop or let them take a break and it’s so sad but also important to know about.
Once said he didn’t want Mick to race in F1 bc the pressure of his name would put Mick under so much stress and he wanted his son to be happy. (He fully supported Mick in his endeavors! But only after making absolutely sure it was what Mick wanted, and making sure he knew he could just race for fun if he wanted and it didn’t have to be F1)
This whole interview just after Mick was born with the Schumacher family. Special shout out to Gina on his head the entire video and also Corinna talking to the press while Michael is captivated by Mick. Me too Michael.
Once allegedly pleaded to take a stray kitten home from the track?
I reblogged this yesterday but. Sticking like glue to Sebastian at an F1 test and immediately being like “This is my new son he’s gonna go far”. There’s a lot of pictures out there also of Michael being a guest at the karting races Seb went to as a kid and baby Seb visibly losing his fucking mind at being given a trophy by his idol. Every day of my life I think about him trying to ruffle Seb’s hair through his helmet at Brazil 2012
WInning the championship in 2000. Him thanking the entire team individually and pausing mid-celebration to kiss his wife Corinna so tenderly it’s in the F1 opening. Also, the way it literally cuts from the rest of McLaren looking like they’re attending a funeral to Mika grinning at him and hugging him fucking SENDSSSSS me.
Schumi was a little shit in all the 2010-12 press conferences like, lowering Lewis’ chair, playing with a microphone wire, but ESPECIALLY corrupting baby Seb and getting him to mess with Nico Rosberg.
He’s just GOOFY! Like I refuse to let him be remembered as a terrifying force of nature he was so goofy kind of similarly to Seb. PLEASE watch this incredibly awkward interview he did with Coulthard on a golf buggy where they both had to pretend they hadn’t thought about murdering each other at least once. I think Sky F1 should force Brocedes to do this when covid’s over. “Do you mind if I drive?” “Yes.”
EDIT: I CANNOT BELIEVE I forgot the 1999 Canada press conference where Eddie Irvine and Mika Hakkinen get into a water fight and Schumi immediately grabs a towel and hides behind it and is like “I had NOTHING to do with it” 🥺 adorable, actually
A lot of people at Ferrari, including Rob Smedley (who was on the other side of the garage with Felipe Massa so not in his inner circle) have said that a lot of the success of the team came from Schumi’s LEADERSHIP more than anything, that he’d make the team get together to bond all the time. When Schumi moved to Ferrari in 1996 they were NOT dominant. He did the same thing Lewis did - went to a team that everybody said would be a huge mistake and helped build them up behind the scenes.
THIS bit of the Canada 2011 Rewind where his engineer gives him the strategy and he’s like “... OkaAaAaAay?” and then when it turns out to be the wrong strategy he cheerfully tells them it’s too late. Little shit.
Speaking of Mercedes I also wanna say that like. They were a MESS in 2012 and his car DNF’d because of a failing on their part MULTIPLE times. (In Canada qualifying his DRS was stuck open and they couldn’t close it.) He did not say a single bad word about them EVER even though the press used this to attack him non-stop as washed-up and bad without Ferrari to cheat for him. At Ferrari he was the exact same with the team, any bastard antics Schumi had for his rivals did not extend to the engineers and crew.
OK this one is soured bc Top Gear is trash BUT if you were like, a kid in England who followed motorsports? Schumi’s fake reveal as The Stig on Top Gear was like the coolest, sickest thing,
Please view this image of Schumi and Mika when they were young and stupid
Tumblr media
Iconic Races
ok so I have limited myself to a few races that show off some of his key strengths!
Hungary 1998 / France 2004 - STRATEGY/SPEED - Schumi switched to a 3 stop strategy in 98 and a FOUR STOP strategy in 04 and won both races. In order for the strategy call to work he’d have to basically make every single lap a qualifying style ‘flying lap’ and you best fucking believe he DID THAT. God I fucking miss when Ferrari was the king of strategy.
Argentina 1998 -  has it all. Talent, battling Mika, pit lane mind games with mclaren, and bullying coulthard xxx
Spain 1996 / a majority of the wet races - RAIN - One of Schumi’s nicknames was Rain Master bc he was so fucking good in the wet. If it started raining and you were a Schumi stan you were cackling evilly before the red lights even went out. I single out 1996 bc it was his first win for Ferrari and it was unexpected but in most wet races, even Canada 2011 post comeback, you can see Schumi thriving.
Malaysia 1999 - Schumi missed pretty much the entire second half of the season with a broken leg, came back for the last 2 races with everybody murmuring about whether he would struggle, and immediately put the Ferrari on pole. Also worth noting is that he was the number 2 driver for these 2 races bc his teammate Irvine was fighting Mika for the championship and he went along with that without complaint, allowing Ferrari to win the constructor’s championship if not the driver’s.
Monza 2002, 03, 04, or 06 just because it has the energy of the tifosi kneeling at the feet of an idol to their red god.
Brazil 2006 - Fuck All Y’all - Schumi’s last race for Ferrari. He got a puncture and ended up almost lapped, and then drove his way back from that to 4th bc he couldn’t go out without reminding us he’s a bad bitch.
Monza 2012 - Defending - Don’t tell F1 Twitter that there’s actual footage of Lewis and Michael having a genuine lengthy battle on track but DO watch Michael defending like a motherfucker and Lewis breathing down his neck for half the race we need to talk about this more.
Valencia 2012 - This isn’t necessarily anything special but I cried in my living room over the only podium of his comeback so it goes on here. It doesn’t have the same impact if you haven’t been watching him struggle with the car for years, DNF-ing from car failure most of 2012, and having BBC F1 telling you he’s washed up every single weekend, but you can just enjoy one of the best drives of FERNANDO’S entire career as he DRAGS that Ferrari by its hair to a home grand prix win and then watch the crowds embrace him like jesus and also Schumi being happy on the podium. Also, the very start of this clip from the press conference: him forgetting what language he’s supposed to be speaking
Basically, Schumi was a hyper-competitive ambitious bitch who turned into a goofball as soon as he switched the engine off. This is by NO MEANS everything if I was making an exhaustive best races guide I’d do more research and another post but I hope this is what you were looking for?? THANK YOU SO MUCH for letting me go MAXIMUM SPECIAL INTEREST and I apologize.

tagged by @gaslypodium! i did do a similar one on my main but i want to do it again >:] it's a bit long though so hop on under the read more and we'll get to the good stuff
1. Why did you choose your url?
of course i had to reference my favorite driver, michèle 😌 back in the day the press really did not know how to Act around her so she had a lot of tabloid nicknames. and the german one was literally ‘black volcano’ bc of her hair and her (reported) temper
2. Any side blogs?
this is a sideblog! my main blog is @knapp-shappeys.
3. How long have you been on tumblr?
i’ve been lurking on here since abandoning google+ in 2015, but didn’t make an effort to take care of my main until 2016. i’ve been on motorsport tumblr since march 2021
4. Do you have a queue tag?
i don’t use queue except for my (almost) daily group b posting, and i don’t have a special tag for it
5. Why did you start your blog on the first place?
i got into group b rally first. i ended up picking up f1 bc i’d been seeing a lot of f1 on my dash (thanks alix) and had also come across a picture of seb and schumi with michèle at a race of champions and thought hmm those don’t look like rally drivers! :) i wonder who they are! :)
i got up to something like 100 motorsport-related posts on my main and then had a blazing moment of realization that this was certainly not what anyone had come to my main blog for, so i made this one! alix inspired me on this front as well.
6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?
michèle and fabrizia my beloveds! yes the posts on this blog may be overwhelmingly related to f1 at this point, but my original entry point into motorsport was learning about their story. and i love them dearly
7. Why did you choose your header ?
this was the picture that technically started it all for me.
so long story (that you can skip if you want, i don’t care) my parents took me to stare at cars in a dealership one afternoon when i was about nine years old. i was dragging my feet/complaining about being there, so they had me sit in a chair and wait. now i hadn’t brought anything to read. i was bored out of my mind and settled on staring at the pictures on the walls. right next to me was this picture of a woman standing next to a yellow-and-white car against a backdrop of a mountain.
my first thought was, “that’s a pretty car.” my second was, “wow, she’s beautiful.” third, “i wonder if she’s asian?” because she had long black hair like me. so i spent a lovely hour piecing together a story about her in my head before my parents came back and collected me, and i promptly forgot about the whole thing even though it was arguably a formative Fruity Moment.
fast forward to a few months ago, when i was doing research for something else and came across the same picture. i remembered being 9 and seeing michèle mouton’s picture on the wall, and decided to read her wikipedia page. lo and behold: i became a motorsport fan.
8. What’s your post with the most notes ?
pfffft got no clue but i had one with 50k on my main somewhere back in 2017
9. How many mutuals do you have ?
i don’t keep track of this. if you follow me we’re automatically besties
10. How many followers do you have ?
44 here (hehe) and 332 on main
11. How many people do you follow ?
😬 a lot, i should go clean it up a bit
12. Have you ever made a shit post?
oh what is microblogging platform but to create shitposts day in day out
13. How often do you use tumblr a day?
i check it a few times: once in morning, sometimes in the afternoon, mostly at night because that’s when a good amount of my internet acquaintances are awake (we love time zones!)
14. Did you ever have a fight/argument with another blog?
no. life’s too short
15. How do you feel about the “you need to reblog” posts ?
i ignore luck ones on principle but as for awareness posts, i’ve said this before but i come to social media to have a laugh and relax, not to be aware of news or educate others. i do have a life away from the screen where i do stay informed and in touch with reality, where i do educate myself and other people in my life and participate in physical actions like boycotting and donations and (barring pandemic times) volunteering. that’s my activism. that’s just me of course, different things for different people, and no one’s better or worse than others for trying to do something in their own ways as they are capable to help others. hopefully that made sense too
16. Do you like tag games ?
of course i do!
17. Do you like ask games ?
yes! i love being asked things!
18. Which of your mutuals do you think is mutual famous?
how would you even keep track of this? haha
19. Do you have a mutual crush?
i don’t have crushes on people i’m only acquainted with through a screen
no pressure of course, but tagging @totowoof, @jedivszombie, @p1tstop, @maranello, and @hon3y-badg3r

hey maisie!! just want to pop in and validate you!!! it’s totally okay to feel frustrated when people miss the point, especially when it’s about something that means a lot to you. please don’t feel like you have to bottle your emotions up or that you’re wrong for wanting to gatekeep! you’re right, this doc isn’t about sv or ms or anybody else but michael, and people need to remember that. sending hugs as always!!! <33
hey Ames!
thank you so much for this message yesterday, it means a lot. I have a lot going on right now so I potentially flew off the handle a little bit more than I should.
but it really frustrates me the way in which f1blr and f1 media (particularly sky sports) treats Michael. for a lot of us he was the first experience we had of someone dominating the sport, but dominating in a way that it wasn't just his personal achievement but also the achievement of one of the most iconic teams in the whole of F1 (sure Mercedes and McLaren and Renault are iconic but Ferrari has been there since day 1 and they live and breathe F1). for a lot of us F1 = Ferrari and Michael Schumacher. I understand that there are newer fans who maybe don't understand so much because they weren't there when it was happening (which I'm not saying to say I think I'm better than people for having grown up watching him) but for a lot of us Schumi was like an addition to our family. for as long as I can remember we've had a Schumi portrait hanging up in our house.
a lot of us can't even think of skiing or look at photos from when Ferrari took skiing trips because it reminds us of that horrible accident and the way it completely stripped Michael, and us, of any kind of post-career closure. of us getting to see him hanging around the track continuing to ignore Brundle or of supporting Mick. in that regard it's difficult to be able to be normal about him and his achievements because he wasn't just some guy. he was The Guy™️ - the first guy to do the unthinkable and win 7 in a row, something that nobody of my generation or older thought would ever happen, or at least not happen for a few decades, let alone happen like 16 years after he won his final championship. and yet Michael only gets brought out these days when you need to excuse someone of doing some dirty racing tactics (which yes was a part of his career but it's not all of his career and the FIA nerfed him and Ferrari as much as they possibly could towards the end) or when some ex driver pundit needs to get clout for being Schumi's teammate once upon a time.
I don't really know what I'm saying at this point and Fio and Frenkie have put it much better than I am yesterday but for a lot of us we have been waiting for this film for a really long time and it hurts that a) he can't be involved in the way that he should have been and b) that there is a possibility people will focus less on him than the others involved and c) that Michael doesn't get half of the credit or respect he should on here for introducing a lot of us to such a fantastic sport we love but also the ways in which he helped contribute to the way that F1 is today.
