OC Askbox Game
I'm avoiding writing and you probably are too, so let's at least think about our characters while we do it.
You know the drill- send me a number (ONE number, you can come back for more) and I'll answer for an OC of your choice (if you know their name) or my choice (if you don't know their name). Feel free to name some of your OCs in the tags of your reblog, if you want to be asked about them.
How did you choose their name?
Were they created for the story, or was the story created for them?
Do they have a love interest, and was that their choice or yours?
Do they have a best friend? If so, how did they meet? If not, have they ever/why never?
Did they have a pet as a child?
What catalyzed their introduction to the plot?
What attribute of them (some facet of their personality, their history, their look, or whatever etc) would you find most important to somehow preserve if they were transplanted to an AU fanfic?
If your character's financial situation were to suddenly flip (someone poor becoming rich, someone rich becoming poor, etc), how well would they handle it? What would be the first thing they would do?
If your character could have handed their role in the plot to someone else, would they have?
Free Space #1: Which of your OCs would be most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse? Which would die immediately?
Does your character have a pet peeve?
Has your character committed any crimes (per their universe's laws)? If not, which crime would your character most likely commit?
Who is your character's closest (by relation, fondness, or distance) blood relative?
How does your character feel about riding horses (or your world's closest approximation of a horse if it lacks horses)?
Is your character's first instinct fight or flight? Is there something that could force them to do the opposite?
What is your character's favorite leisure activity?
Is your character holding any grudges? Are they likely to stop?
If your character were trapped on a deserted island, what three things would they want to have with them? Which person would they absolutely hate to be trapped there with? Which person would they enjoy being trapped there with?
Does your character having any health issues, whether they're aware of them or not?
Free Space #2: Which of your OCs would you most like to meet in person, if they could become real (or you could visit them) for a day?

Top 5 dishonored NPC lines?
ohhhhhhh this one is so hard, the incredible amount of really damn good NPC dialogue is one of my favorite things about dishonored and probably THE number one thing i love gif'ing the most from it. i have to exclude Outsider lines from here to give anyone else literally any chance, but i spy an Outsider specific ask in my inbox rn so thankfully there's that sorted. instead of spending five hours agonizing over the literal dozens of lines i love here are some random ones that came to mind immediately from base game dh1, in no particular order:
Samuel: "Maybe it's not my place to say, but men of the faith shouldn't live like barons." there's just something so samuel about it, the coating of dignified humility around a center of utterly unimpeachable morality. it sums up so well his role as a quiet observer/arbiter of the actions of the people around him--and how he often goes unnoticed by those very people, in part because of that humility and the way the powerful look down on him as a working class man (see the bastard trio, especially havelock, wildly underestimating him--when he can remember his name at all). there's a reason it stings so hard when samuel finally calls a high chaos corvo out in mission 9, like, this man just sees straight through to the heart of matters (and people), and he is never wrong. but on the flip side, that makes it just as amazing in low chaos when he praises you instead.
plague survivor in the flooded district: "I don't blame them. I know why they did it. But I only wanted to die at home." this brutal line. unbearably poignant. a man who wasn't even asking to live, just to die at home, and how even that tiniest of mercies was denied to him.
on a lighter note - Miss White: "You're a scandal in that mask. I like a man with poor judgment!" makes me laugh every fucking time, 928340923 playthroughs later.
Sokolov: "Once you start ordering people killed to get your way, everything else becomes mere detail." stealing my own very ancient tags from the old blog to explain why i like this line so much: this is essentially dishonored's main cautionary message and it falls to anton sokolov to say it, goddamn. in short it's a snappy bit of writing and also just kind of funny who gets to be the mouthpiece for it--really says something about how dire things have become in dunwall.
Daud: "And you choose mercy. Extraordinary." just. gives me terrible shivers. the awe of it all. the recognition of the incredible, impossible choice corvo has made. indescribable.

30. things I wish you'd said (prompt list here)
The thing about being trapped here in Yama: if Fai just relaxes his mind and stops looking for words he recognizes, Kurogane could be saying anything. Isn't that better? He can get that dangerous look on his face, like he's seeing too much again, but the disjointed clutter of syllables that reaches Fai's ears is entirely open to interpretation.
So, "I miss those sweet things you cooked for us in Outo," Kurogane says when he scowls and points to the grilled fish left untouched on Fai's side of the tray. And then Fai can say something like, I know it's so hard for you here, Kuro-tan, away from the children and me with no ingredients to make you the fancy meals you deserve. Eat my fish instead, and Kurogane can look as suspicious as he likes but he'll never actually know.
Or some night returning from the battlefield, Fai bleeding lightly from a scratch on his shoulder, Kurogane will say, "That was some impressive shooting out there," as he gestures emphatically at the wounded arm. "Looks like you don't need magic after all," he'll add, and obviously he's frowning because he had to admit he was wrong about that. Fai wipes sweat out of his eyes and smiles to accept the compliment.
Or when he wakes up the following night, teeth clenched around nightmares he can't remember, and Kurogane is leaning over him in the gloom with an expression Fai doesn't want to interpret. "You don't have to face these things alone anymore," he could be saying— but no, he couldn't be. That's too much. That's absolution he doesn't have any right to give.
"You're almost done," he could say. There's no way he would know, but this is Fai's fantasy, after all. "And when you have to go, I'll make it quick."
Oh, Kuro-sama. You always know exactly what to say.

7, 22, 24 Feuilly for the character ask!!
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
I like that we're about 9000 percent more likely to give him dialogue than Hugo..... >< He's not even one of the Top Three Most Popular Amis in Fanwork or anything but WE REMEMBER HIM<3 And generally try to put him in group scenes and all as much as we can, if we're making those!
--also also one perk of modern shift work vs canon era is that it's very VERY easy to justify Feuilly having more Off time overlapping with the other Amis and I have ZERO issues with people using that to include him in the hijinks. Put that political nerd in some Situations!!
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?
...I like it when he gets nice things he wants
I am a simple creature who likes fluff and fix its
but I also like it a lot when he's centrally involved in activism and planning and gets to go on long rants about politics (thought I suppose for Feuilly that is also Nice Things He Wants )! I love his canon tendency to talk about his One Niche Interest, which happens to be EVERYONE IN THE WORLD <3<3<3 and I like when that gets fanwork time (although I VERY MUCH get that it's hard to do! how do you draw "intense interest in global politics and solidarity across national lines" ? it's a lot harder to compose than a handholding scene! XD)
For the other part of this...ok I don't exactly dislike it but I do think it's very funny when people decide that since he's a Worker he must be a big muscledy jock laborer. He's a fan painter. Graphic Design is His Passion. His only workplace injuries are carpal tunnel and headaches from paint vapors and eyestrain from going over the same dozen damn seasonal motifs for twelve hours at a time XD Sorry to all the art idealizing men of the Working Classes as Big Buff Hulks, Feuilly is a little glass cannon with puny wizard arms and a migraine (I love him) .
24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?
..man that is HARD. There are not a lot of characters like Feuilly! Even heroic characters! Especially when so many heroic characters spend huge chunks of their story going " oooohhhh nooooo pleeeaaase don't tell me I have to use my cool powers to do awesome things, I'm just a little birthday boy" and Feuilly's whole thing is I WILL SAVE THE WORLD ARMED WITH BASIC LITERACY AND SOME DAMN COMPASSION
I...y' know what? Captain Kirk. Original flavor, poetry-quoting Stack of Books With Legs James T. " Let Me Help" Kirk. And I wish I could think of more characters like this because I love them, but well, here we are.

New Year's Game
Like in years past, we're gonna play an Askbox game for new years!
How to play:
Send me an ask between now and Midnight, Dec 31st, EST with at least one thing you are proud of doing in 2023 AND one good thing that happened to you. You are welcome to include more of either, but the ask must contain one of each.
For every ask that contains both of these, I will reply with a new photo of one of my current pets- you can pick which, or leave it to chance, but it will be a photo just for you!
As a bonus, if you send a second ask containing a kindness you observed someone else doing this year, I will respond with a piece of good news from around the world. This one only counts AFTER the first ask is sent.

OK, I've been very bad at keeping up with the fic tag so all my recs are a bit old but listen. they fuck.
the soul that seeketh him by bittybelle — Ostensively a fic about John Gaius's slut era but one of THE definitive fics in the fandom to me. I want to eat it I want it tattoed over my ribcage.
People, it turns out, are horny for depression. Or maybe it’s that people are horny for depressed gods. Or maybe enduring betrayal on a literally cosmic scale makes people hotter. Or maybe the death drive is real, and the many-tongued abyss’s breath is still thick in your hair, and it makes everyone want to move closer and take a big, deep whiff. Or maybe you’re God, and they’re scared.
Or: John Gaius meets his daughter, remembers the women he left behind, and deals poorly with being the male god of a universe in which the divine is essentially feminine.

You like forcing yourself to do gross things. This is called having character. Ianthe gets haunted, makes a power play, and smokes a cigarette.
High But Very Drear by honorarycassowary — this is such a lovely look at the Ninth after Harrow's departure. It's slightly canon divergent (written pre NtN) but I'm obsessed with Aiglamene's portrayal in it
Aiglamene and Crux receive the five hundred ancient dead gifted by the Emperor for the renewal of the Ninth, and also do something that could be construed as mourning.
and I'll leave once I figure out / how to pay for my own life too by oriflamme — multichapter Harrow Nova AU that remains one of my favourite chaptered works in the fandom. I'm absolutely obsessed with the Harrow & Pyrrha and Harrow & G1deon dynamics in it
Harrow Nova wakes up haunted.
That's not the problem. The problem is that her dead necromancer won't stop narrating their life for five minutes.

IMPOSSIBLE TO DECIDE. look, i’ve read so many good fics, and i’m also really bad at remembering the names or authors of them. it’s all just soup up there (my brain) but here’s a few that have been on the mind lately
i really like ozonecologne’s laundromat ‘verse it’s got punk cas and a little gaggle/gang of baby punks he adopted plus good ol fashioned working class dean. the pacing and format is also just very fun and soothing to me
KissingTinyFlowers’ haunt me through the night does in fact haunt me through the night. it gets worse before it gets better, postcanon
i’m currently reading Storage Wars by mtothedestiel and i’m enjoying it a lot!
i just recently finished @chapeldean’s Altitude and its AUGH. love. love. dean and cas are both so tender also there’s GOOD BELA WRITING which you don’t see a lot
and then stuff i’ve downloaded as epubs and don’t immediately have the links to — any port in a storm, microcomets. the counterpart effect, fullvoid. arcane, no_absolutelynot (omegaverse smut in the woods). a hole in the world, anneliesemichel. AUTHORITY BY SEASIDEMEOW is a wip but i’m OBSESSED. if you’ve never read with understanding…….. if you’re into dark fic it’s for you. also the cheapest room in the house, biggaybenny aka skr0g is of course amazing.

Top five soups
oughghghgh altering my dinner plans now that i'm thinking about soup. you have done me a kindness this day.
you know when people ask something like "if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be"? yeah the answer's always pho, the broth alone is soul-healing. and also literally healing in general, i always have it when i'm sick and it immediately clears out my sinuses and makes me feel so much better.
wonton soup. that feeling when you think you've eaten the last wonton and then you miraculously find another at the bottom of the bowl? songs should be written about that.
love that you can dump pretty much whatever the fuck is in season/in your fridge into a pot and it still counts as minestrone. also always love a good tomato broth.
which brings me to actual tomato soup, but only if i have grilled cheese to dunk in it.
potato cheese soup...with little bits of bacon...and like a really rustic bread crust to dip in it...my god......................

Ice doesn’t know how they didn’t see it, how he didn’t see it with his heightened senses, but he leads them right into an ambush.
He slams into the first Hydra soldier with his shield, but there are too many of them, too fast. The others shout behind him and charge into the fray, shots firing, bullets whizzing past his ears. He takes out as many as he can, keeping his men in his peripheral at all times, but one sends his shield flying, and it’s all fists from there. He takes one down with a roar, and it’s then that he sees the man sneaking up on Maverick.
