Waiiiiiiiiiiiit a second. Did Stephenie Meyer accidentally make an M/M pairing canon. Like, you know Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined? She genderswapped everyone BUT Bella/Beau's parents. That way all the canon pairings still happen and SM could keep it hetero. But SM. You made Sue Clearwater a dude: Saul Clearwater. And if canon pairings remain, and the events will proceed roughly the same..... Charlie gets to hook up with a dilf and I for one am happy for him

Hey! I'm probably going to send in quite a few asks so I'll use the ☀️ emoji so you know who I am if that's okay. So what about Jacob, and the rest of the wolves? How do they fit in?
(STRAP IN BABY)
Jacob:
"Okay so, there are three families, right? All our great grandaddies immigrated from the old country around the same time. The Blacks, the O'Cleary's and the Udy's.
My grampa, Ephraim, had my dad and my aunt Shannon. My dad married my mom, Ellen, she's native, Makah. They had me n' my sister, Rachel, and my Aunt married a Puerto Rican guy and had my cousin Lysandre.
The O'cleary's are a massive family, we got Harry, Sue, Leah and Seth, Sue is Quileute and was raised in La-Push! (Go donate please) Emily, Quinn and Eagan are Leah and Seth's cousins.
With the Udy's we got Sam and his parents. Pauls his cousin.
We all live around Pullman, and my dad owns The Rose and Thorn, a pub downtown, I've been working at it most of my life, and it became a family meeting place. The O'Cleary's own The Farm, I mean, they don't farm it, but it's a massive piece of land and we all hang out over there, we have a ton of parties and family gatherings out there.
When Eddie boy pulled the whole Martyr thing, Bella started coming to the pub more often, and I helped her find a place. It was actually my Auntie's friends old place, and it was near The Farm.
So all the wolves start turnin' and Bella's in on it cause I kinda shifted in front of her. She became part of the Pack. We got our shifting ability from the old world, all our great grandaddies were descendants of the people of Ossory.
We originally wanted the Cullens to fuck off cause you shouldn't mess with the fucking Fair Folk, but when the mama, Esme, started helping sam with organizing protections when we were trying to stop Victoria, we realized they were pretty chill. Leah and Bella became real tight, and so did Bella and I, but she eventually shut me down totally. She tried to tell me no from the start, but I was...young and dumb. ANYWAY we fought off that army or whatever, and Rosalie and her husband like, adopted one of them, and by then we all relaxed with each other. Paul and Emmett are bros now, and Ed's not so bad, a nerd, yea, but he's funny. Jasper is bros with Lysandre.
Bella and I are still buds too, even though she reeks, and they all come to the family get togethers now. Once a member of the pack, always a member of the pack, we all love her like a little sister. It's just fun she can keep up now lol."
Quinn: "Oh also Jake never imprinted on a fuckin baby, and neither did I."
Jacob: "Wait, what the fuck?"
Quinn: "Did you ever read the last book?"
Jacob: "Gimme that..."

Jacob: "AY YO STEPHANIE, HEY, WHERE YOU AT? I JUST WANNA TALK-"

One of my favorite youtubers did a thing over Eclipse and shat all over Jacob for his actions in that book. I refrained but I really, really wanted to comment all the racist context, Meyer's obvious agenda, etc. People in the comments were so nasty about Jacob, too, when Edward is almost as vile and doesn't have the excuse of having his character deliberately destroyed to make the other love interest look better. Like, everyone has their tolerance levels for abuse/assault and I respect that, but you can't ignore the meta/context when the author is blatantly racist and misappropriated an entire REAL tribe to use as props and set pieces for her 1% WASP wet dream. (Unrelated but did Tumblr remove the ask character limit? I feel like I should have hit the limit by now.)
this is literally the ongoing problem/debate (although it’s not really a debate bc it’s not a simple difference of opinion... it’s literally right vs wrong) in the twilight fandom. especially on twitter/instagram/tiktok/youtube. it’s a divide of people either recognizing that you can still have love for a series that’s nostalgic to you while rightfully critiquing it OR people being so defensive about their right to like twilight that they lash out and live in ignorance. i am once again going to link @renegadepack‘s anti-racism resource post for twilight fans because it’s a fantastic foundation for the work we should all be doing.
and a psa for everyone, especially those still living in ignorance. it’s not too late to turn the car around. nobody is saying you’re not allowed to like twilight. you are allowed to like twilight.* what you’re not allowed to do is prioritize your personal feelings towards these fictional characters over the feelings & validation of real people, primarily BIPOC, and above all else, the quileute tribe.
*as long as you recognize the issues within it & don’t romanticize/justify them
and before i get gross anons being like wHo tF aRe yOu tO tELL mE wHaT i’M aLLoWeD aNd NoT aLLoWeD tO dO!!! ur SO right!! who am i??? i’m just a random person on the internet!! so unfollow me! block me! but don’t send me gross messages because i promise u i’m deleting them hehehe just trying to save YOUR time baby boo ♡ miss me w that bullshit

205. Midnight Sun, by Stephenie Meyer
Tumblr media
Owned?: Thankfully not (library) Page count: Too long (756) My summary: Edward Cullen is drifting through life. High school doesn’t get any more fun on the hundredth repeat. But when new girl Bella Swan sits next to him in class, he finds himself awakened to a new reality he’s never before dreamed of. Does he follow his heart - and potentially doom the girl he now loves? My rating: 0/5 My commentary:
HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE THIS BOOK SINCE I BEGAN TO READ IT.
Seriously. This is the worst Twilight book by a mile, and I’ve read all of them at this point. (Well, apart from the gender-swap one, but I’m assuming that’s exactly the same as the first.) Not only was this book tedious, not only was it over-long and irritating, but not once did it justify its own existence. What was the point of this book? What did it add? Ugh. Anyway. More yelling under the cut, but here’s the link to donate to the Quileute nation, please make use of it and give them some well-deserved money. I know I just did.
The first and most obvious problem with this book is its POV character. Edward Cullen is a despicable piece of shit. He’s contemplating murdering a room full of people by page 12. He spends this whole time whining about how much of a monster he is and how he’s damned and how he needs to stay away from Bella for her own good and it’s like, none of this justifies you stalking her, nothing that’s happening here is good, what the fuck. He’s dismissive to every non-vampire bar (eventually) Bella in his life, and yet he seems to think Bella’s somehow unique and special for...not instantly hating him? Having opinions? Basically just normal human behaviour that to him is so unique and outstanding. He’s so infantilising to her, constantly calling her ‘girl’ and moping about how she couldn’t possibly understand his tortured soul, while doing exactly nothing to communicate how he feels to her.
And, really, none of the extra glimpses we get into Edward’s mind mean much. Sure, we get an expansion of his backstory, and the Cullen family dynamic, but all of that only highlight the pisspoor worldbuilding. Why is Esme their mother when she’s only a couple of years older than Edward, both in looks and chronologically? Why are they pair-bonded for life (other than Meyer’s mormonism)? Why do people like Alice? She’s so annoying, once she’s seen a future where you’re friends she just insinuates herself into your life without you getting an opinion on it.
Not that it matters, because most of this book is just rehashing the first. Even for scenes where Edward wasn’t around, we get to see through him spying on Bella. And his insights from mind-reading add nothing, nothing that the reader couldn’t already have divined from their own read on the situation. So the only thing left to justify retelling this story from Edward’s POV is his own opinions which, again, we already know from a casual reading of the book. The only new things are a couple of scenes of what Edward was doing when not in Forks (moping, mostly) and the subplot about Edward and Rosalie’s relationship, which is really minor and ultimately doesn’t add much. There’s also scenes of what was happening while Bella and whatshisface were having their showdown in the climax, and what happened when she was unconscious, but by that point I was so bored and irritated that I just didn’t care. Like, objectively, Edward watching Alice make decisions based on her future vision was a pretty cool device. Did I by that point give half a shit? No! I just wanted it to be over.
It’s too long, it’s tedious, it’s infuriating, and never once does it justify its own existence. Don’t pick up this garbage even as a joke, folks. It’s just bad.
Ugh. So glad that’s over. Anyway, next up some hopefully good YA, with another story told through poetry!

Waiting Game
Words: 2657 Rated: T+ for canon-compliant mentions of suicide Summary: The story fell out in pieces, leaving Jasper and Emmett to sort through them to form the narrative on their own. Bella wasn’t dead; a fact Alice neglected to let anyone else in on. Alice was flying somewhere; it was unlikely that it would be back there, to Denali. Edward wasn’t coming home; it was assumed that Alice was heading wherever he was. Bella wasn’t dead, and Edward didn’t know it.
(New Moon gap-filler.)
A/N: Originally written for a Twilight charity fan-zine.
I humbly ask that if you read this story, please take a minute out of your day to go to MTHG.org and read about the Quileute tribe's Move to Higher Ground initiative. As a fandom it's important to acknowledge the true harm that has been inflicted upon this indigenous community and to educate ourselves accordingly. If you're able to, please consider donating to their cause. If you’re unable to make a monetary contribution, please share their cause in any way that you can; whether it's on social media, texting it to your friends, or bringing it up to family members. It's important to bring awareness to their situation now, before tragedy strikes and a natural disaster causes harm to this small, vulnerable community.
Today's story is part of a two-part fundraising initiative I've taken to Tumblr. Tomorrow I'll be posting an original song that will be available for download upon proof of donation to the Quileute tribe (any amount counts; even $1 is a great help.)
I’d also like to take this moment to request and encourage any Twilight content creators out there to take a moment this week/month/year to post one work dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the Quileute tribe. It was a beautiful thing to see everyone banding together last summer with the release of Midnight Sun, donating en masse, raising awareness, and encouraging education. I’d like to keep that momentum going through 2021, as well. 💗
(Story under cut)
“I just feel bad, you know?” A foot against the base of a tree only had to press slightly before the thick wood groaned and cracked, threatening to fall to the forest floor below. The snow was deep enough that Jasper imagined it would cause a mighty flurry to erupt around them, but he wasn’t about to stop Emmett from doing whatever he needed to distract himself. Grief rolled of him like a steady stream, relentless in it’s flow. “Like if we’d stayed, this wouldn’t have happened.”
“But we didn’t stay, and it did happen,” Jasper spoke gently, pushing back the guilt he’d only recently allowed himself to move on from. Alice had reasoned that it was likely that any type of incident that threatened Bella’s life, whether vampire-related or not, may have driven Edward away from her eventually. But Jasper knew that Alice had held onto hope even all these months later.
It really was a shame that Bella had died.
“It’s ridiculous,” Emmett finally pushed harder against the tree, and when it cracked and snapped beneath the force, catapulting snow into the air around them as the hundred-foot giant fell, neither man flinched. “It didn’t have to be like this. It wasn’t just his choice. She could’ve been one of us by now. It’s what she wanted.”
Emmett’s grief was a passing storm, Jasper knew.  Emmett always handled change and tragedy and disappointment far better than any member of their odd little family. No matter how much the taller man cared for the now-dead human girl, Jasper knew that it wouldn’t take long for Emmett to move on.
As for their brother…
Jasper was dreading having to fill Carlisle and Esme in on the news. It didn’t feel right to deliver the news over the phone, so after a few vague voicemails and an even more ambiguous phone call, the pair were ending their hunting trip early and would be back at Tanya’s before midnight.
Not for the first time over the past couple of days, he wished Alice were still there. Empath that he was he had never been good at comfort, outside of using his ability to force it into the atmosphere. But still, Alice had tasked him with it regardless, informing him that Esme would take it hardest and it would be best to have them both back at the house before revealing the news.
And Edward, Alice said, absolutely could not know.
Rosalie had shocked Jasper by raging at that particular detail, her frustration trumping her initial shock and guilt so thoroughly Jasper had done a double-take, staring at the blonde curiously.
“He deserves to know,” Rosalie asserted, folding her arms over her chest as she eyed her shell-shocked husband, sitting at a nearby couch, his head in his hands. “It’s not fair for us to keep something like this from him.”
“I’m just relaying what Alice said,” Jasper deflected her irritation with half of a shrug, Tanya’s phone feeling particularly heavy in his hands. “It’s not like it would be easy information to get to him.”
Now, almost two days later, the knowledge that Bella Swan was dead sat in him like lead; heavy and unrelenting. Tanya and her sisters had expressed their sympathies, although Jasper could sense how bizarre they felt, watching Emmett frown and mope over some human girl. Carmen and Eleazar had volunteered to help them track down Edward, but Jasper quickly dismissed the offer, telling them what Alice had spoken.
Edward could not know. Not yet, at least.
“When Alice comes back, we’ll regroup,” Jasper spoke, watching as Emmett eyed an even-larger tree, likely considering knocking another one to the ground. “But when Carlisle and Esme come back, I’m going to need some back up.”
Emmett smiled thinly, nodding as he pulled his eyes off the tree and back toward Jasper. “Esme is going to be so wrecked.”
Jasper did not nod, but he did grimace at the idea of the matriarch of their family so distraught. It hadn’t mattered that the woman had only known Bella for a small amount of time. Esme had cherished and loved Bella the same as she did any of them.
It was as he was gathering the breath to speak, when Jasper stopped, his head turning back toward the direction of Tanya’s home in the distance.
Rosalie’s voice reached them only a millisecond before he’d felt it; sharp, piercing terror and guilt shooting through the somber atmosphere. Jasper was moving just as they heard the first shout.
“Emmett!” Rosalie screamed, “Emmett help!”
In all the races Jasper had entertained over the years, Emmett had never once beaten him, no matter how many times the taller man played dirty. But in all the years Jasper had been with the Cullens, through all her dramatic fits and tantrums, he had never once heard Rosalie sound so terrified.
So when Emmett beat him back to the property, snow flying around the men as they raced back toward the house, Jasper didn’t even find himself shocked. If someone could bend space and time through sheer strength alone, Jasper was sure Emmett would find a way. Anything to get to his wife.
They met a hysterical Rosalie half a mile from the house, and at first, little made sense.
“Rosie, Rosie,” Emmett held her tightly as words tumbled out of her too quickly and too disjointedly to make any sense.  “Slow down, what’s going on?”
“I told him,” she screeched eventually, her words catching as the guilt and fear wrestled within her, “I messed up and I told him because he deserved to know and I—” when her words caught on a fully-formed sob, Jasper forced himself to look away. And as his eyes found Tanya and her sisters, appearing at the edge of the forest, worry coloring their faces, Rosalie finally let the rest of her words tumble out. “I miss my brother.”
And in that moment, Jasper knew what had happened.
Rosalie had told Edward Bella was dead.
Alice had strictly emphasized how that couldn’t happen. But now the boy knew. And Jasper didn’t have to be a mind-reader to guess how the impulsive teen was going to react.
“Oh, no,” Emmett whispered, clinging to his distraught wife. Jasper made eye contact with him and immediately knew that their minds were on the same page.
Now, Edward wouldn’t be coming back.
————————————
The story fell out in pieces, leaving Jasper and Emmett to sort through them to form the narrative on their own.
Thankfully it didn’t take long for Rosalie to calm. But while Emmett comforted her and soothed her guilt—guilt that Jasper could feel eating away at her stubborn facade—Jasper quickly and quietly explained to Tanya the situation.
“What can we do?” The strawberry blonde asked, sharing a horrified look with her sisters.
“I don’t know. I need to talk to Alice.”
And by the time they all made it back into the house, Esme and Carlisle had made it back from their trip.
One look at Rosalie, completely beside herself and shaking like a leaf, had forced the pair into action.
“What’s going on?” Carlisle demanded as Esme flew to Rosalie’s side, enveloping the girl in a tight embrace, her eyes as wide as saucers. “What happened?”
There had been plenty of things that Jasper never wanted Carlisle Cullen to find out. When he and Alice had first joined back in the fifties, that list had felt a mile long. Each fact about his past felt like a confession. Each story a token to pay for judgement never received.
Jasper watched Carlisle take so much in stride through the years that eventually, even after slip-ups, Jasper found himself comfortable enough to talk about it with the older man. To look him in the eye when the conversations transpired. He respected Carlisle, even cared for the man.
But how on Earth was he supposed to tell him that the boy he thought of as a beloved son might never be returning?
The hour that followed had been excruciating.
Emmett and Rosalie had disappeared soon after Carlisle and Esme’s arrival. It was only after Jasper asked when Irina hesitantly told him that they’d borrowed a car to drive to the closest airport in Fairbanks. From there, their plan was to call Alice and demand to know her location so they could help.
Not one to judge a plan made with good intentions Jasper had simply nodded and tried to tune out Esme’s grief.
He’d been right to suspect that the woman would take the news the hardest. If anyone Jasper had ever met deserved happiness, Esme did.
She’d already lost a son in a previous life. It felt cruel for history to repeat itself this way.
When the phone finally rang, Jasper answered it immediately.
“Hello?”
“I don’t have much time,” Alice spoke, her strained voice immediately soothing some of his anxieties just by the sound alone. “I have to make it quick so the flight attendant doesn’t interfere.”
“Where are you going?” He spoke, feeling the nerves in the house immediately begin to rise. He knew Carlisle and Esme were only in the next room, listening in as Eleazar and Carmen lingered close by.
“I’m going to stop Edward. There’s no getting a hold of him, so don’t even try. Our only chance at stopping him is by getting to him as soon as we can.”
“We?” That surprised him. It didn’t sound like an invitation. But quickly his surprise faded. Of course Bella would want part of whatever intervention Alice was staging. “And where, Alice?”
“Italy.”
“No,” he shouted the word before he could stop himself, and when he heard the sound of approaching footsteps he lowered his voice, curling himself around the phone as he walked in the opposite direction, “Alice, no.”
“If I don’t do this, Edward is as good as dead, Jasper.” Alice didn’t even sound surprised at his sudden outburst, of course. “Bella is alive, and once he sees that, I think we have a shot.”
“And if he doesn’t see that? What is he planning on doing? Join the Volturi?” It made little sense, but when it came to Edward’s fits, not much did. Of course, he was sure the alternative was more likely…
“He’s going to ask them to kill him.” She spoke, confirming his fears. “He knows they’re the only people who would willingly do it. And if they don’t want to do it willingly, he’ll force their hand.”
Jasper swore then, turning to see Carlisle standing in the doorway to the kitchen, a frown etched deep into his kind face. He knew the man could hear every word Alice was saying, even despite her lowered voice and hushed tone.
The two locked eyes for a moment before Jasper forced himself to look away and continue speaking.
“How?”
“I can’t be sure, I keep seeing him do different things, he keeps changing his mind.”
“What’s he picking between?”
“A killing spree through the city, attacking the guard, lifting a car over his head in the main square,” Jasper hissed at that, hating the fact that Edward was truly considering all of these things for Alice to get even a vague vision of them. Alice continued without a beat. “Mostly things that would expose them—he knows that’s he fastest way to force a reaction.”
“Alice, I don’t think you can stop him on your own.” Not that he doubted Alice’s abilities for a second, but if Edward was so ravaged by grief and hopelessness that he’d resort to murdering innocents, he couldn’t help but fear what his brother might do if Alice tried to stop him on her own. “I can be there, just give me some time to get to the airport.”
“No, you can’t.”
“You’re going to have company anyways once Emmett figures out where you are.”
“Tell Emmett no.”
“He and Rosalie are likely at Fairbanks International now.” He was surprised she wasn’t aware of that. He was sure they would have been calling Alice non-stop by now. Truly all of her attention was focused on Edward.
“Well, go after Emmett and Rosalie and bring them back.”
“Alice, I think we could be of some help there. Seriously.”
“Think about it, Jasper. If he sees any of us, what do you think he will do?”
Jasper sighed at that. But when he realized Alice was waiting on a verbal reply he closed his eyes, running a hand through his hair. “He’ll act faster. He’ll know we’re just trying to stop him. That we’ll tell him anything to get him to listen.” Even if it was the truth, that Bella was alive, Edward would absolutely never believe them, especially with Alice knowing his true intentions.
“Exactly. I think Bella is the only chance—if there is a chance…”
“Be honest, Alice. What is the chance? It sounds like he’s got a head start on you two.”
“I’ll do everything that can be done, but prepare Carlisle; the odds aren’t good.”
“And what happens then? If you fail. You’ll be in Volterra with nothing but a human at your side. Aro will,” he swallowed, trying hard to ignore Carlisle’s concerned gaze on his back, “he won’t want to let you go if he sees into Edward’s mind.”
Of course, Alice had the goddamn audacity to sound amused at the idea. “I’ve thought of that.”
He forced a few calm breaths, then. “Alice, you need to promise me you won’t put yourself in danger. I refuse to let this situation get worse than it already is. And it’s already bad enough. Promise me you’ll get out.”
“Yes, I promise.” But her words were too practiced. Too ready. No matter how much he trusted his wife, Jasper didn’t believe her for a second.
“I can be there soon, please. Alice, let me help. I’ll have Rosalie and Emmett come back to wait here with Carlisle and Esme. Do not do this alone.”
“Don’t follow me. I promise, Jasper. One way or another, I’ll get out.”
Jasper sighed. “If anything happens, all bets are off.” There was a moment of silence then, and when Alice didn’t contradict his words, he found himself feeling only the slightest bit better. If things went south, he’d be there, and nothing on god’s green earth would stop him. Alice had to know that.
Whether she’d seen it was something he didn’t want to know. (Because that would mean her failure was more likely than she was leading on.)
“Be safe, Alice,” he whispered, clinging to the phone with both hands now, knowing that soon she’d be gone, “I love you.”
“And I love you.”
He stood entirely still for several seconds before the beeping of the dead line brought him back to reality. Alice was on the way to a viper pit and here he was, standing in a too-big kitchen with marble countertops clutching a cordless phone like it was his lifeline. Told to sit and stay and wait, as if he’d ever been good at any of those three things in his goddamn life.
When Carlisle placed a hand on his shoulder, he nearly jumped, so taken off guard by the motion that the older man immediately apologized.
But when Jasper finally turned his eyes onto the man who had accepted he and Alice into his family over fifty years ago, it was easy to push the hesitance aside when Carlisle asked firmly, “What do we do now?”
And like always, Jasper had an answer for him. But not one he wanted to provide.
“We wait.”

Do you think SM is going to leave what is already released of midnight sun essentially alone, just minor changes? Or do you think she’s rewrote those first 13 chapters? None of the quotes posted on instagram sound familiar but i’m not totally confident lol
I think I remember her referring to the version of it on her site as a very rough draft, so I imagine there will be editing done, but I don’t expect any major changes. From context, all the teaser quotes I’ve seen seem to be from the second half of the book, but admittedly I haven’t been following them that closely. I could be wrong, though. I had always thought she was going to drop MS out of nowhere like she did with Life & Death but we got the weird countdown and months-long wait instead.  Friendly reminder that your local library is a great way to have access to books without buying them. You can often put holds on things before they are published. If the book isn’t already in your library’s online catalog, you can probably do a request for them to get a copy. Also a lot of libraries these days have downloadable ebooks and audio books, especially during the Time of Covid, and it might be available in those formats, too, although sometimes it takes a little longer for those to be released.
Also, if you are financially able, everyone please remember the real Quileute tribe’s Move to Higher Ground project and consider donating on August 4.
And if for some reason you have to buy a copy from Amazon, please use smile.amazon.com and select Quileute Tribal School as your charity. They’ll only get a tiny donation that way, but it’s something.

oh can you please share the grievances you have over twilight/ the vampires in it or what kind of research you did for your wip? how much blood would the cullens drink?
oh ur in for it now nonnie (thank you i love talking about my stupid lil research holes)
 1) as we already kinda knew, the source material is... somewhat racist (please read the article here on how Twilight affected the Quileute tribe: https://studybreaks.com/thoughts/twilight-quileute-tribe/ and if you can donate anything to help them, this has been ongoing since 2017 to move to higher ground due to glacier's melting and moving the sea level up https://mthg.org/)
(as a note, all my opinions here are opinions and I'm NOT pointing fingers or blame at anyone who likes the franchise and story, you're allowed to like what you want, just like, look at it critically)
-- because of this a loooot of things are considered imperfections including but not limited to: scars and tattoos (cultural or otherwise). Both of these things are 'wiped out' or otherwise reversed by the process of being transformed.
-- Now, i get scars to a degree, especially in the source material and the wild mistreatment all the vamp characters have gone through (at least of the Cullens/Olympic coven, + some others I'm sure, god is it fucking b l e a k) but that brings up the next point:
 2) THE SCIENCE IS BAD, now i know what you're gonna say; you're gonna say "Jam, why do you care about the science? It's a *vampire* story! It's fantasy and supernatural, why the science?" because, my dear nonnie, i have standards. and those standards include obsessively researching every single rabbit hole that comes up.
Now, I *know* you shouldn't have to research everything ofc, that's fine, even in published fiction, whatever, it's *fine* but we’re talking about MY issues and i get to choose what they are. And it is a personal affront to me because TATTOOS ARE **NOT** SCARS, it's why they don't *heal* like scars do. Sure they get less vivid over time but they *bleed* and blur, they don't get smaller or disappear entirely! If your tattoo scars, it means it was done wrong!!
(science time: tattoos keep their color because the needles pierce and mangle/kill the cells underneath while depositing ink—this is why tattoos *can* scarify if the wound is made big enough and it's why they're considered open wounds in the first place—and your macrophages (the thing that eats infection bits and things that don't belong in ur bloodstream and body, this is why you can't have the wrong kind of blood transfusion or it'll severely fuck you UP) eat the ruined skin cells in order to make room for new skin cells! EXCEPT it can't digest and get rid of ink! so, the new cells are created around these macrophages and *also* have the ink deposits. ink is however broken down by light and through sheer determination of your body over looooong periods of time, which is why you still gotta treat your tattoos nice) all of this just to say, wtf the tattoos should have BETTER staying power because the ink is no longer getting broken down by new macrophages and like, you're no longer vulnerable to UV or whatever through your skin. Common' StephMeyer you coulda had some real fucking hot tattoos in this world, some old school shit like Godric from True Blood. smdh
 3) if you're still with me i applaud you cause here's another thing.. .why the FUCK do they kill every human and like animal they feed from??? OK, ok, like so, i get it, humans can only lose so much blood, animals too. (pls excuse my shitty math, i am NOT a math gay by all rights and i actively have friends whom i love that ruthlessly point out I forgot how to add things once. however, this is more or less right, the margin of error is gay just like me)
humans have: 4.5-6 L // 9-12 pints of blood lose to die: 4.5-6L // 4-6 pints?? of blood (this conversion killed me, no one tell me the right numbers if they're wrong) Generally, human stomachs have a volume about one liter, which is a little more than one quart (or 2 pints) tho it *can* expand to fit more none of the vampires are ever shown with or mentioned to have a distended stomach after feeding so we can assume that's not happening here.
"Hemorrhagic shock begins when you lose about 20 percent, or one-fifth, of your body’s blood or fluid supply. At this point, your heart isn’t able to pump sufficient amounts of blood through your body." (source)
-- this being said there's more blood that a human can *technically* lose than a human sized stomach can generally fit into it. HOWEVER you will die unless seen to very quickly and before hemorrhagic shock sets in. In twilight saga canon it's pretty clear they Do Not Do This. So like, whatever, super wasteful deaths sure, fine. Keep the vampires unknown, whatever, you do you boyos.
But also like... the Cullens straight up kill animals too, that's not *actually* what vegetarian means. BUT they don't necessarily ahve to, they apparently eat so messy that it's hard to tear any of them away from feeding and gorging themselves *every two fucking weeks*. They're wiping out the local herd of damn pigs and other big prey and/or predator animals, the fucking ecosystem is in shambles probably. that's right u heard me, 2 weeks which brings us to the next point:
 4) they can only go 2 weeks, after *gorging* themselves full and killing an animal *EACH* until they ahve to do it all over again. holY SHIT THATS SO MUCH. that's so many dead people or animals, like that's over 100 animals and/or people a YEAR PER VAMPIRE needed to feed these people. And if they *don't* eat, their eyes turn black and they go just full fucking feral and kill someone anyway, possibly multiple someones.
christ, just do the math, i'm not a math gay but Meyer isn't gay and has no excuse. i'm begging you, one damn thought about the implications of what you're writing, just once. (once again, you're allowed to like this, these are my personal issues with the source material and the "clearly heven't thought through the implications of what you've said" is my largest pet peeve ever ESP in stories and worldbuilding)
 5) the powers are cool but have no consistency and is built to take advantage of. Which i will. to give my boy FANGS like he goddamn deserves in this godforsaken au/fusion. Finally, and not least,
6) why the FUCK don't they have fangs this is a fucking vampire fic, it's a STAPLE for a monsterfucking reason damnit.
Anyway, dracula and gatsby are both public domain and i get to say how I'm writing them. Vladdy Drac is a bro and so is Jay Gatsby, Crowley's older than both of them in this, and they're all friends because he deserves nice things sometimes. Fuck it.
Look at it Meyer, you took a perfectly good gateway monster and turned it into a shiny de-powered superman human. terrible.

jessicajnp huge homophobe and ships jake x renesmee/is complicit in pedophilia/grooming in general
Hey anon, you are absolutely right! I just checked @jessicanjpa 's blog and WHEW. That's definitely one for the blocklist. Women who feel the need to point out they're "Christian moms" in their bios already set off alarm bells, for me at least.
I reblogged that post b/c obviously I want to spread the link to donate to the Quileute tribe, but I have deleted it now. There's other posts I can rb/make myself. You are so right, it's bad. I even took screenshots for proof.
TW/CW Homophobia, pedophilic shipping, being a complete self-centered bitch.
Tumblr media
Proof of her supporting that nasty ass ship. jfc. I may come back and hyperlink these posts when I'm not on mobile.
And now for the homophobia. This is the ask she was sent where I think she first aired her shitty views.
Tumblr media
"aNd OnLy tHe aCt nOtHiNg tO dO wItH tHe iDeNtItY" fucking dumbass karen is what she is.
"If you're enthusiastic about hateful ideology, please stay away from me" THE AUDACITY ON THIS BITCH LITERALLY ALL OF THIS MAKES ME ENTITLED TO SHOVE MY BOOT UP HER ASS!!! As IF homophobia in and of itself isn't already hateful!!!
Tumblr media
"I prefer not to endorse or legitimize the act of homosexuality..." Literally everything you see from the link on the bottom does nothing to counteract this statement and Ik - I read the whole fucking thing.
I'll post the screenshots here so y'all can see the self-centered bullshit she calls an apology. Everything I underlined in red is more proof of homophobia or just outright stupidity. Then again, the whole thing is as well.
Tumblr media
"... like I tried to explain before, I wasn't homophobic" I would like this @jessicanjpa to know that I am morally opposed to heterosexuality :////. I don't like to endorse it, I mean being str*ight??? What about the children!!! These ppl ship pedophilic ships for God's sake!!!! Their children get exposed to heterosexism and misogynistic gender roles as babies!!! I mean, I won't tell someone that is a cisgendered heterosexual - ugh, it makes me shudder just to say the words - that what they do is simply wrong, but it just - ugh, I just can't legitimize it. It's just too much for me!
Tumblr media
... and I mean, if I were to force myself to reckon with the existence of heterosexuality and that I'm heterophobic, I would have to make it all about me and my journey of pseudo spiritual understanding instead of actually LEARNING that the views I still hold are monumentally stupid and harmful. And criticizing my jOuRnEy to understand the heterosexuality issue is just bullying >:(. Calling out and criticizing me out for being heterophobic is just. BULLYING!!! >:(((((
Tumblr media
It's just that these people are so hateful!!! 😫 They try to pass laws to okay the discrimination of us gay, bi, and trans folks - look at the current news from here in the so-called Land of the Free! They still try to put us through conversion therapy and even murdering us for merely existing!! It's not like we do that to them - there aren't any laws forcing the str*rights to undergo conversion therapy or being told that they are influenced by the Devil (they are tho). Even though I'm trying to unlearn my heterphobia, I just can't get past these several things about even today's Heterosexual Movement😠!! I'm just me, after all!!! Why do I have to fear for my life in my own home just because they think it makes them proper Christians!!! 😓 I'm trying to unlearn y'all, I truly am!
Tumblr media
One day, folks, I'll get there. I'll be able to not interact with a hetero and not cringe on the inside when they're affectionate in front of me. One day, maybe I'll reblog a hetero ship or fanart! One day, maybe I'll write Leah or Rosalie with a man instead of being a huge ole pussy slurping/girl dick sucking lesbian - actually no, that's a lie, that'll never happen.
If anyone doesn't understand why what I underlined (or anything else in those posts, for the matter) is homophobic, I'm not gonna hold your hand for you. Miss Jessica, you don't have to feel comfortable with us homosexuals (also, just say gay or lesbian for fuck's sake, and no, you don't deserve to be asked nicely), bisexuals, transgender people (including non binary ppl ofc), pansexuals, queer ppl, asexuals, or intersex folk. It's not your stupid journey that matters, it's that you think that being LGBT+ is wrong, no matter how you try to word it or what ignorant shit you spit up to justify it. Grow up, you conservative. We don't have time for your bullshit.
And I just want to thank anon real quick for letting me know the douchebag that I reblogged from. I never mean to purposely rb from the bigots so just lmk like anon did and I'll fix that. ❤

New Moon (2006)
Tumblr media
Previously, I have done a book review on Twilight from my newly gained perspective after a recent read. I shall proceed with the next book: New Moon. Now, New Moon used to be my most hated book. I resented it. I suffered through the first 200 or so pages just to get to the good part, which in return was exceptionally good (I'll probably come to this). This book was coloured by a very big issue for me: there was no Edward. This opinion has not changed. I still cannot grasp the logic behind removing the one character that compelled readers to love the prequel. It was probably done to give Jacob some attention, but really, it made the book a drag for me. That has changed. While I still hated Edwards absence, I enjoyed the Edwardless pages more than usual, though I don't know exactly why. Anyway, let's get into it!
The book starts of with quite a nice moment: Bella's birthday. I think Bella's resentment of aging is displayed very well throughout the book and logical from a seventeen-year-old's POV. This leads me to voice an opinion I hadn't in the previous review: the book really should have been set in college. It would change the book entirely and I think for the better. Bella would have actual close friends at home, the story doesn't need to focus on the secrecy from family and friends, and most importantly, Bella would be more secure. She would know things, maybe things Edward didn't, she would not be so insecure (still a bit insecure, but I think maturity reduces it) and she would be able to move more freely. College as a setting would resolve some of my issues certainly. It would also solve the whole age-thing. Bella wouldn't have such an extreme obsession with age as age in your 20's barely reflects in your appearance. As a teenager, you change so much every year, but in your twenties it's different. In addition, it would give Bella a much better sense of what she wants out of life. At college, she must have envisioned some sort of career; the whole missing human experiences issue would be less important. But that's just my take on it.
Bella gets cut and more importantly attacked by Edward in an attempt to save her from Jasper. Great moment to show the comment of Edward to Bella by, you know, not killing her on the spot. Also GREAT moment for Carlisle and Bella. I think this moment might actually be a first moment in which she projects him as a father figure.
Right after this whole charade, the drag begins. The silent days by Edward and his ensuing absence. Reading it again after years, it still hurt. On his part, I do understand the logic. The one thing I kind of hated was his removal of everything between them. When he said goodbye to her, he wouldn't expect her to accept his leave so easily, that he couldn't believe that she had just forgotten everything about him. Then, he just assumed that by forming a so-called clean break and removing everything that could remind her of him, she would move on so easily. Like her words didn't exactly stick with him either. While I understand their reasons for everything, it was a very emo-goodbye. His absence was terrible. Like I read it for the first time, I LIVED through the pain. I FELT it.
When the Jacob part started, I was wary at first, but I actually enjoyed it to my surprise. I saw for the first time his soft side. I was bothered by his cold facade, though, through all the other books. I guess I didn't like that he lost his innocence but that was just the story.
I really feel that Bella and Jacob's romance was written expertly. It made sense somehow. Still, I can't believe anyone could be Team Jacob based on the books. However, I was annoyed by the pressure on his side along the series - trying to show that she loved him by assaulting her and guilting her into kissing him. She fought hard to deny herself that part and it was not his to expose it. That should have been her. I guess SM thought it was hot/sexy for a man to force her to face her emotions like this, but I really can't think of it as anything other than assault.
The stupidest part of the Edward-absence was the hallucinations. I believe they represented Bella's unconcious knowledge that he still loved her but to me it was obviously the result of a toxic relationship. And then, she had to do the dumbest shit ever to get the hallucinations. If it was adrenaline related as I really believe it was, she could've just done a few rollercoasters. 'But she only had them when she did something dangerous.' No. She had them when she had an adrenaline rush. All her stupid adrenaline rushes happened to be induces by dangerous ass shit. If you don't like this argument, go away because it is one of many concerning the biological aspects of the horse-shittery later on (scientist here). Anyway, the hallucinations didn't do much for me.
Alice returns. You can actually see in my book where this is - as I've turned to this page a million times. I love Alice as I've previously said and I love her here. I also love that Edward wants to off himself. Not too glad about the whole dependency thing in representation, but in their relationship, it's proof that he's committed. What really gets me though is the humorous outrageous amount of dramatics in his decision to die. It kind of aligns with the Volturi but it's still so dramatic to wait until a certain time. Didn't you want to die the second she died??? Dramatic.
I think that everything about the Volturi should be regarded as creative freedom. They hoarded a group of people in every time they were hungry and no one of their relatives started a blog with 'Disappearings in Volterra, Italy'?? Dumb. They were collective even more dramatic than Edward but then, creative freedom.
The most compelling scene was definitely the scene where Bella though she was dreaming. I'm probably not the only one that cried when I read that the first time (and the times thereafter). I have a big issue with their getting together. Yes, they understood both sides of the story and yes, they had both been miserable apart. However, I don't believe that their instinctual feelings also disappeared with their resolve. You can't convince that if Edward said good morning a little bit off one morning, Bella's mind wouldn't instantly think he was going to leave her again. And then, the PAIN of Bella, the shell she was after him, that should have been harder to shake as well. Her body must occassionally involuntarily just recoil when she sees him. Again, I understand but poor representation of pain, SM.
Speaking of representation, the racism is way more obvious in this book than in Twilight. While I loved the wolves, SM exploited the Quileute Tribe. As in my previous post, I have included links to get both informed about and to donate to the Tribe's council. A bit less obvious may be the position of Jacob, POC against Edward, white male. Jacob is regarded as a love interest, sure, but his appearance, his being, is close to nothing compared to Edward. It might be the story, but in combination with all other small and big acts of racism by SM, it seems racist.
Another major issue I didn't address in my previous post is the complete absence of LGBTQ-characters. I myself am not part of that community, but the lack of representation, especially in a book with such a young and formable target audience, is extremely wrong. I am of Molukkian heritage and I know what it is like to not be represented. It alters or limits, whichever way you see it, your self worth. All of Bella's insecurities SM wrote were superficial: Bella wasn't pretty enough (in her mind) for him. I don't want to disvalue those insecurities, we all have them after all, but lack of representation can give anyone of a minority the sense of not belonging and not worthy of happiness. To all minorities, I see you and you are of worth! You deserve better than to be ignored and limited in media and politics. It pains me to see discrimination is still so prominent in society and I stand with you.
With that note, I want to conclude my review. There is really nothing more important than that. Please inform yourself on the Quileute Tribe and donate to their council through the following links:
The Quileute Tribe

Donation:
TLDR: New Moon is okay but shows, again, a toxic relationship and obvious discrimination. Please inform yourself on the way SM exploited the Quileute Tribe and donate to their council through the link above.

Twilight: Book vs. Movie
Introduction
I first read Twilight in 2008, a few months before Breaking Dawn was released and before the popularity of the series led to the first of the Twilight movies in the franchise. I was pretty into the series for a little bit there, though I moved on from the mania before it became overblown and went through a minor “no I don’t like Twilight anymore” phase. That phase and the time since the books and movies came out have allowed me to gain enough distance to see the problems with the series, as well as see what made the content appealing in the first place. Hence why I’ve been letting some nostalgia guide me lately with indulgent posts about the Twilight Saga. That being said, I do recognize the elements that others take issue with–largely the treatment of the Quileute tribe in the series, which was written by a white woman. There are also some religious overtones due to Meyer’s personal beliefs that can be interpreted in pretty negative ways.
What the movie got right
The first movie has some beautiful cinematography, especially concerning the forest setting and the way the Pacific Northwest has that iconic blue around it. In general, I think the way the Cullens are styled worked well. The actors for the Cullen children do look older and more refined than the human actors–probably a wise choice as they are meant to be such elevated beauties. They managed to create the eye color effects, as well and I think had more success in this first film than in the others with that.
Some of the choices they made–such as having real climbers go up into the tall trees for that helicopter shot–were interesting and made the movie a little bit more there. I think some of the later movies rely too heavily on CGI or bad effects, and this first one has something more raw and interesting about it.
In terms of adapting the movie, this book definitely gets book loyalty points. The plot beats are there, the main characters all make their appearances, and things that were described specifically tend to be exactly like the book counterparts. A few minor things were changed, some with larger implications, but other than that I think a lot of good choices were made with this film when testing the waters with the fanbase and what they would and wouldn’t like.
What the movie got wrong
The majority of things that went wrong in this movie were ultimately, I believe, directing decisions. Not to say the director was the worst of the whole series, and also to point out she did make a lot of good choices that are reflected in the better parts of the film. But Kristen Stewart’s directing could have been better, I think. Robert Pattinson didn’t take the role particularly seriously as we all know, but still managed to do a pretty good job of showing the hot and cold confusing way Edward interacts with Bella. Kristen Stewart’s shining moments were probably also the ones where book Bella is most clear–her dry, sarcastic moments, and her moments of high emotion and intelligence. When Bella is observing Edward, expressing anger, or being fed up with something she’s clear and decisive. But for some reason, stuttering and blinking a lot became the hallmarks of Kristen’s Bella. I honestly think this was due to poor directing, due to the way in the commentary Kristen Stewart describes trying to figure out what to do in certain scenes–usually the ones where her acting is the least convincing–and being given little guidance.
Other than that, the movie only made a handful of deviations from the book. One was to show James, Victoria, and Laurent hunting earlier in the film–but this was also a good choice for a screen adaptation, and didn’t really mess with the story at all. The wardrobe choices for these vampires were incorrect but more interesting, thus I enjoyed that. The inclusion of that last scene where Victoria makes an appearance at the prom was interesting but highly unlikely. Edward and Alice would absolutely have known if Victoria was at their prom, but it does set up for the fact that later in the series Victoria is still bent on revenge. Also that last scene is iconic.
Perhaps one of the few deviations from the book that really bothered me was how Edward and Bella go into the woods for their discussion of vampires. They do it by leaving the parking lot of school, fully visible, and then have a montage of scenes in the woods where Edward reveals more and more about himself. This is blatantly the opposite of what Bella actually did. Namely, Edward kept telling her to tell someone they had a date: her friends, her father, anyone. He did this to protect her because he was afraid he might not resist her when alone and wanted an incentive to bring her home. Bella purposefully did the opposite, in order to prove that she was ready to protect his family. She misled everybody in her life to believe she’d be in Seattle and then to believe she’d be home doing laundry. She was being immature and stupid about things, which pissed Edward off, but she felt right about it because she was trying to appeal to his family. Taking off in the middle of a school day from the school itself? Yeah that would’ve led to Edward being screamed at by half his family.
Did the movie do anything better?
I think in a lot of ways the Twilight movie did bring the book to life. I enjoyed the way the teenagers in the movie felt more like teens than in the book– a result of younger actors shaping roles written by an adult. There are some seriously funny moments of dialogue that come across like genuine seventeen-year-olds interacting! Also, some of the actors in this franchise are underappreciated gems. Actually, most of the actors are. Billy Burke, Gil Birmingham, Anna Kendrick, Nikki Reed…
Final thoughts
I don’t think either the book or movie are groundbreaking in any way. But I do think that Twilight was an entertaining and somewhat relatable escapist fantasy for a lot of us when it came out. I think the movie managed to capture that same spirit and do a pretty decent job of adapting the book loyally. There were some interesting choices made in the movie, some of which demonstrated real insight into adapting words to screen. The actors involved were talented, the soundtrack amazing, and the general vibe of the movie has a lot of nostalgia for me that’s pretty soothing against the backdrop of 2020. That being said, no franchise is without its major issues. Please take a moment and visit the Quileute Move To Higher Ground donation site, as they are raising money to move the tribal school.
