Eclipse Day!
Tumblr media
I feel very lucky to live in the path of totality, so I took the day off from work and I’m going to be going to a local living history museum that’s having a big event

'let them say fuck' this 'let them swear' that
let them cry
let them sob in the shower
let them soak their friend's sleeve with tears
let them wake up with red eyes
let them laugh cry with their friends over a forgotten inside joke
let them cry while kissing their partner, finally finished with whatever hell they were going through

when alec lightwood said: and when one day people look back on me and what my life meant, I don’t want them to say, ‘Alec Lightwood fought in the Dark War’ or even ‘Alec Lightwood was Consul once.’ I want them to think, ‘Alec Lightwood loved one man so much he changed the world for him’.
and when prince henry said: because when they write the history of my life, I want it to include you and my love for you

You have greek, roman, norse and egyptian thingys just running around and getting tangled up more and more, so I imagine them just having a big group chat between all the main guys to figure stuff out.

im just starting MCGA ship of the dead and it stated there that if ragnarok happens and they fail, the world will crumble or something and like Percy and the others wont live. But like its a difference mythology and gods so if it really happens then whats gonna happen to the greek and egyptian worlds? Is it like the same war but different things going on?

I was watching an interview from a Chinese rom-com in 2020 and one of the questions was "What do you think is the sweetest romantic declaration?"
And then I started thinking about what are the most romantic lines of my top ships: Malec (Shadowhunters, both show and book), Wenzhou (Word of Honour), and Firstprince (RWRB both movie and book)
Honestly, if I had to pick one out of all of the lines of all ships, I'd say it's "Alec Lightwood loved one man so much he changed the world for him." from The Queen of Air and Darkness, the Shadowhunter Chronicles for Malec. Like, turning eros (romantic, passionate love) into fuel for agape (sacrificial love) and actually making the world a better place for his love? I can't imagine anything greater than that.
For Shadowhunters show, it's Malec's entire wedding vow, I think it summarises what a healthy loving relationship is perfectly. Especially "I will catch you when you fall, and when you soar, I will help you reach your greatest heights"
Tumblr media
For Wenzhou from Word of Honour, it's the sunbathing scene from episode 12, just calling each other's name thrice. There's something beautifully simple about that.
Tumblr media
And for Firstprince, for the movie, it's "I'll break the sound barrier for you." I don't really know how to explain this one, it 's just the one that touched me the most. Especially after Henry's pled after a week of isolation and agony, the way Alex sounds so sure about it even though truthfully they're both lost and scared as fuck, the way it's a callback to the moment Alex realized he was in love with Henry... it's just fucking beautiful.
Tumblr media
For the book, it used to be An Incomplete List of Reasons why I love HRH Prince Henry of Wales, but there was one night in late September where long story short someone said I was selfish for being an emotionally sensitive person which really hurt, so I tried calming myself down by reading RWRB. Then I read bad metaphors about maps out loud and sobbed even harder.
I don't fucking know? there's just something so beautiful about the way Alex writes, which is ironic when earlier he said to Henry "I can't match you in prose" because what the fuck, all of the emails are beautiful but to me turns out bad metaphors is a whole other level. Henry is a writer, he's good with words, those are his dearest tools, but in front of this email, Henry is literally speechless. What the fuck, Alex. What the fuck.
i need to hear TZP read bad metaphors, but I also think that will end me.
Yeah. My favourite romantic declarations from my three favourite ships.

My favorite novels I read for the first time in 2022
I usually do this on instagram, but since I've stopped using it, I wanted to post here
So here they are in no particular order:
1922 by Stephen King - I never read King before this year, when I went on a Libby bend before Halloween. This is story has stayed with me. I get why King is such a popular author, his writing style is so addictive that I had to read this all in one sitting. Wonderful and horrible. And though it felt inevitable, the twist at the end still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. (Anyone know if the Netflix adaptation is any good?)
The Montague Twins #2: The Devil's Music by Nathan Page & Drew Shannon - What can I say about the Montague Twins? Other than I will read as much as Page and Shannon write. The style is so cool and the story is a perfect fusion of Scooby Doo and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Truly I love to see a book with such a strong aesthetic and story. I can't wait to see where this series goes!
Any Old Diamonds by K. J. Charles - Another great of be gay, do crime fiction! One thing I was struck by reading this book was Charles' confidence in Victorian history. We love a historical fiction author who cares about the historical part! Plus the romance is very sexy. This was the first of K. J. Charles' extensive work that I've ever read, so I definitely plan to read more soon. Specifically there is a series whose events are referenced by a side character in this book that I am very interested in - hopefully I'll have more to report next year!

A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall - Alexis, I meant to read more from you, I swear! (Truly he just writes too fast for me to keep up!) Hall's work made it onto my list last year with he excellent Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake and the very charming Boyfriend Material, but Hall's historical fiction is just lovely. I fell in love with the main character, Viola, immediately which is a feat because it usually takes me a while to warm up to them. And my god the tension between the main characters! I went wild for the shaving scene (if you know, you know) Anyway, I plan to at least do a reread of Boyfriend Material before finally reading Husband Material and also the rest of his books, but that may take a while.
Small Game by Blair Braverman - This book, this book. I only know Blair Braverman from her appearances on the podcast You're Wrong About (I recommend the episode "Flight 571: Survival in the Andes"), but they definitely sold me on her knowledge of survival, as well as her ability as a storyteller. I will say, though this book has been billed as horror, I don't think it fits entirely in that genre, at least not for me. I was never truly frighted for the main characters during the events of the story because I was confident in their knowledge and teamwork - which is not to say it wasn't an engaging read. I found it more engaging because it didn't give into cheap scares. My best recomendation is that if you loved books like Hatchet or My Side of the Mountain as a kid, you'll definitely love Small Game.
The Husband Bluff by @kanna-ophelia - I just (jenny-slate-screaming.png, chandler-bing-hugging-a-record.jpeg) Julius and Wren my beloveds <3. I don't even know what to say here, do you love love? Romance? Tenderness? Do you love two fools in love? and meddling friends who know better? What about class and family drama? The difference between nobility an honor? Disagreeable cats and tight leather trousers? What about the best mom in the world shutting down the worst mom in the world? (I will never get over Mel calling Wren her "chick") Anyway, if you like any of these thins, you need to read The Husband Bluff immediately, which you can do because it's on AO3 right now! (see link above)
And those are the best novels I've read this year!
I'm putting together another list of my favorite short lit, so if you liked these, be on the look out for that post to come.
In the meanwhile, happy reading!

head canons for drawing styles! yayayya:
(not a ton of charicters are on here cause i didn't think they would draw/im not sure what their art style would be)
percy jackson: all his drawings somehow look like they were made in mspaint and half awake
annabeth chase: diagrams, but when she dose draw someone (like percy or sally) its very sketchy, like Role Dahle's drawings
piper mcclean: that grungy alt style with the long eyelashes
leo valdez: realy only dose diagrams, and said diagrams are mainly made up of basic shapes and stuffs but when he dose draw people its the worst stick figure you have ever seen
frank zhang: very cartoony, simmiler style to We Bear Bears
hazel leveque: charcoal drawings, also kinda realistic (i think its cannon that she dose charcoal, or knows how to)
nico di angelo: realism, but focuses more on landscapes than people
magnus chase: stick figures
alex feirro: like annabeth and leo, most of her drawings are diagrams but i think his style is kinda art-nouvoe ish
mallory keen: is simmiler to a lot of fashion drawings from the 70s, but i think its also kinda resembles ND Sevenson (the person who origonaly made Nimona)
t.j.: realism. while he didn't have much time to draw in his life, i like to think he did it as often as he could and took some classes on art during death. no basis for that one, but i think hes also good at pixel art.
halfborn: has a range of styles, but mostly relies on a semi abstract one
blitzen: fashion stylist, gotta get things down quick, so i think his style is full of shapes (all styles are but whatever) and kinda scratchy.
hearthstone: kinda loopy and sketchy, some how one line drawings
carter kane: realism, but i think it would be cool if he did watercolor too. him doing lanscapes sounds interesting too
sadie kane: scean 2000s drawing style with the square mouths and pointy teeth
EDIT:
holy moly how did i forget about rachel dare
i think she also had a realistic style, but its like. 1800s or 1700s realism. and she defenetly has alot of diffrent styles like halfborn
