I've futzed around with a bunch of machine translation over the years, and here's what I've landed on (for Android and Windows).
Note: For both of these, the translations are wildly imperfect. Having some knowledge of the language you're translating obviously helps, or you're going to be confused when Google or DeepL decide to infer the wrong pronouns because they aren't people and don't understand context.
EverTranslator
When I'm purely on my phone, I use EverTranslator. It's free and much better than it used to be once you make a few changes in the settings. I have it set to . . .
Joiner between text blocks: Space
Remove ending dashes: On
Remove line breakers inside text blocks: On
Remove spaces in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean text: On

UGT (with a controller)
Mirroring Your Screen on your PC
I cast my phone to my laptop via Windows Phone Link or ScrCpy when I use UGT.
§ Windows Phone Link
Upsides of WPL:
It should be natively included in your version of Windows (you'll need to get the app on your phone, though).
(Usually) sound will come through your PC instead of phone.
USB connection not required--you can connect wirelessly to a PC on the same internet connection. Great if your phone is charging across the room.
Downside:
Can't rotate the screen manually for apps that are weird about rotating (AKNK).
§ BlueStacks
This method ought to also work with BlueStacks, but I haven't ever used BlueStacks because I'm paranoid about where I allow my Google data to be accessed.
§ Samsung Dex
Samsung Dex doesn't rotate apps at all, so that method is straight out.
§ ScrCpy
Scrcpy via USB Debugging mirrors your Android to your PC without having to root your phone. This is a little more advanced than using Windows Phone Link or BlueStacks, but you're using your own phone without granting anyone your Google credentials AND you can rotate the screen easily (unlike Dex or Windows Phone Link).
Upsides of ScrCpy:
You can rotate the ScrCpy window on your PC by holding alt and pushing the left arrow key. Great for AKNK's outings and sleep support.
Downside:
Getting sound through your PC rather than phone via ScrCpy is less reliable. Though it supposedly ports audio to your PC natively with the latest release, I still need to use the dev's SndCpy: https://github.com/rom1v/sndcpy/blob/master/README.md
Setting Up UGT
UGT requires more work than EverTranslator, but once you've set it up, it's worth it. You can use it for anything on your PC. Congratulations, you can now play any untranslated Japanese otome game via emulator.

You'll need to futz around with the config file a bit, especially with the autoglue, even when you move from game to game, but it's worth the hassle.
UGT normally supports controllers to make it easier/faster to translate (and save your wrists/fingers), but that feature is broken at the moment. The dev knows. So, I cobbled together a script in AutoHotKey for my Xbox controller . . .

Once you load this script into AutoHotKey and run it, the buttons on your Xbox controller will work as follows:
UGT's normal functions will work; consult the program
A will translate the active window (use ctrl+F10 to set a translation rectangle so it's not unnecessarily translating everything onscreen—you can always use ctrl+F10 to set a new rectangle)
B will clear the translation (the equivalent of spacebar in UGT)
Y will act as the left click of a mouse button
Left joystick will act as a mouse, so you can move around the screen to select things without touching the mouse
I updated the above AHK config file so its set back to UGT default (ctrl+f12), allowing you to run it out of the box with UGT. My original version was tailored to my modified hot keys.
These AHK settings may conflict with games that require these buttons on a gamepad, but you can look up AutoHotKey's instructions and easily change them in the script. I promise it isn't hard. Otome games are usually point-and-click, though.
This is what my setup looks like on Windows with my Android phone cast to my laptop via Windows Phone Link using UGT and a controller (not that you can see the controller part). It's so big. Good for my old eyes!
Here's my setup via ScrCpy:
DeskTranslator
Another option besides UGT is DeskTranslator, which won't require you to connect Google or DeepL in the settings or set up anything in Google Cloud Dashboard, but will require you to know some Python, access PowerShell, etc.
The installation directions for DeskTranslator and its requirements are available on each repository page, and if you need help installing Python packages, you can very easily search Google for the right commands to copy/paste into PowerShell.
One nice thing about DeskTranslator is that it will give you reasonably real-time translations without having to push any keys/buttons. Use this combined with Windows' captions in a foreign language and you can have translation of spoken dialogue that has no built-in captions in your game.
You can also drag the translation box over a normal dialogue box and use it that way, too (like UGT or DeepL's app--see reblog below for more on DeepL's app).
When used with ScrCpy, you can simply hold your phone in your hand (connected to your PC by USB) and tap the screen like normal. No controller or keyboard hot keys are needed.

Now allow me to rant about the new story my brain made during my English class 😘

DISCLAIMER! This is a pretty rushed story so it may suck!
TW: Spoilers for characters in Episode 2, straight up cringe, bad grammar <3
Life as an angel from Akuneko - Part 1
You don’t know how you became like this
One moment you died from saving a little boy from getting hit by a truck, and now you’re in another world dressed up all white with fucking wings on your back.
“god damn truck-kun… you did it again” You sighed as you stared into your reflection in the lake's water
*Correction, you were looking at someone else’s reflection
It wasn’t your body that’s for sure. You didn’t remember having black-tipped hands (and feet) and really short white hair. Let alone, humans don't even have wings!
Yes, you were an angel. Not just an Angel though, and angel from Akuneko.
You did play Akuneko in your so-called, “past life”. By learning some Japanese words, and with the help of some people translating the story, you were able to enjoy it like the other members in the English fandom.
But other than that, WOW YOU’RE AN ANGEL THAT MAY OR MAY NOT DIE SOON.
You do have the memories of the angel you are currently “possessing”. It seemed they were created a while ago, and haven’t killed anyone yet.
Keyword: Yet
You started possessing them when they broke a wall of a civilian’s house and when you realised it, Haures was after your ass swinging his sword at you.
You did escape without any injuries, and with some kind of muscle memory, you flew back to the angel hideout? Headquarters? Or something like that.
The place was horrifying. Angel everywhere. With the high-ranking angel, Cherubim staring at you as if observing your every move.
You stayed at the hideout for quite a bit, then decided to leave and start a new life. WITHOUT being bothered by the angels
When you left, you felt someone watching your departure. Fuck whoever that, fuck the angels. Nothing mattered at that moment
And here you are. Looking at the reflection of the angel you possessed in the lake waters.
A bad choice to come here really. You knew this lake was near the Devils Palace, and you definitely didn’t want your ass obliterated by Haures or the others.
But there was a coincidentally abandoned cabin nearby so you decided to live there for the time being.
You had some goals in mind
1. Find a place to live in
2. Find supplies necessary for living
3. Make some connections with people
4. Make yourself a new identity
The first goal was complete without a hitch, which was a good start.
The second goal didn’t seem hard either. Angels don’t need to eat, drink or sleep so the only supplies you needed are materials to make the cabin more stable. You didn’t know how long you were going to stay there. It’s better to maintain the building than watch it fall
The third goal was… going to be harder. If you wore a disguise, normal civilians probably won’t recognize you as an angel, but the Devil butlers sure will. They’ve been fighting angels for more than centuries, of course, they are going to bust you!
You decided to leave that goal as an optional one to complete. We’re not going on death’s doorstep today folks
And for the final goal… is to grow out “your” hair and train “your” face to be more flexible in making emotions. The language in this world wasn’t a problem. Hair growing… is questionable. You might need to get a wig (somehow). And facial expressions are going to be a tough one. Angels always have emotionless faces on 24/7, so at least NOT looking like those chicken wings is the bare minimum you can do if nothing succeeds. Man, you feel sorry for comparing those angels with innocent chickens. Sorry little guys 🐔
Feeling satisfied with how you were progressing in this world, you stumbled back to the cabin
Did I mention walking as an angel was hard too? Well now you know
“These chicken shits have been skipping leg day >:(“ you muttered disappointedly. Your wings fluttered behind your back, as if begging you to use them
Sure, you could’ve used your wings, but soon enough you’d have to cut them off to look like a normal human.
Ouch :(
Once you reached the cabin you heard a bush near you rustle. Your heart stopped for a moment. Almost everything in this world was dangerous now. Civilians, Devil Butlers, and heck even the angels! You're like a wanted fugitive at this point
With a heavy heart, you peered into the bush and saw……. A chicken
Yes a chicken. It surprised you too. It was pure white with a yellow beak and… uh red thing (whatever you call it ;-;).
“Bok bok”
It rushed out of the bush and waddled over to you
It stared intensely at you
You stared at it back
“…so want to be my pet?”
“Bok bok”
“Alright then”
You carefully picked up the chicken and brought it inside the cabin.
Did you kidnap a chicken? Yes. It just got taken away by you, with no sign of struggle for escape.
Does it mean it allowed you to kidnap it? Probably? It’ll escape soon anyways. You only kept it for temporary company and emotional support
You set the chicken on the counter. It sat down and fluffed its wings making it look like a big ball of white fluffiness.
“Bok bok”
“A name? Sure I’ll give you one…”
Just a small disclaimer, you don’t understand a thing of what the chicken is saying. You’re just responding to it randomly.
(But surprisingly, the chicken was asking for a name)
“I’ll name you… Nugget!”
The chicken deadpanned at you
“BOK BOOOOOKK”
“OK OK I’M SORRY! I won’t name you after a type of food…”
Did chicken nuggets even exist in this world?
You thought for a while. Fluffy and Feather seemed a bit too overrated for you... then what about...
“Then… how about Tristia?”
You questioned the chicken. The chicken ruffled its feathers, satisfied with the name
“Oh you like it? I’m glad”
Mhm, let's just pretend you didn't just name a chicken the same name as someone's dead sister-
You pet Tristia and stared outside the window. You wondered how long you’re going to be in this world. Your body in real life was probably dead or in a deep coma state right now.
It’s not like you wanted to go back. Nor do you want to stay in this world. But still, as an angel, it means you’re immortal. So you’ll be bored for a looooooong time. And that means Tristia might die soon too :(
Perhaps it’s a sign for you to explore this world. Even if someone finds out you’re an angel you could just fly away and escape (with Tristia too ofc)
Deciding to go out, and explore the world, you instructed Tristia to keep watch of the cabin and she bobbed her head in response.
"Bok bok!"
Does she understand you? I guess she does, I wonder why... (totally not foreshadowing anything ahaha-)
Giving Tristia one last pet, you walked out of the door with Tristia's eyes watching you leave...
Also, did I mention a pair of wine-red eyes were watching you leave the cabin too?

Maroota Event: Butler's Christmas. It might be Malta/Maltese Cat + Maroon. Malta is famous in Japan as the island with more cats than humans. Edit: just to clarify, this island is definitely not in Japan.
Tisailles Event: Wings of Frill. It might be Versailles + T-shirt (???).
Kalliste (with an é. I'm not gonna write it). First mentioned in this event. It might be Santorini/Thira (Santorini used to be called Kalliste, from the Callisto myth).

I’ve seen you in the Akuneko tag a few times and was wondering who your top 3 butlers are? 😊 My top 3 is constantly flip flopping if I’m being honest. I really like Berrien, Lucas, Lamli, Miyaji, Nac, and now Haures/Fennez have grown on me with the release of chapter 2.
*jumps up and down, waving*
First, I adore Akuneko because I quit a 10-year-long position due to chronic migraines this February 2022, and having worked all my teen-adult life, I didn't know what to do with myself when I suddenly wasn't working at all. I found Akuneko around the time I quit, and it helped me basically in every way it's supposed to. It is a godsend.
If someone reads this who a) doesn't know Akuneko already, b) struggles with anxiety, depression, stress, etc., c) likes otome/ikémen games, and d) doesn't mind translating from Japanese, you can find Akuneko in the US Google Play store (link below) or in Qoo.
My top three are:
Lamli. He's awful at his "job," but he does everything possible to make you happy. He wants desperately to be a "cool adult" with his shit together to impress you, but he doesn't realize how overrated it is. He's full of unbridled energy and passion, and he never forgets to tell you how he feels. I see my ADHD in him and I love it. I just want to goof around all day with him (and give everyone else in the mansion grey hairs).
Boschi. Sure, Lucas is undisputed #1 for teasing you, with Ammon at #2, but Boschi is a real dark horse when it comes to flirting. He says some things where I'm like, "Boschi, you scoundrel!" When he invites you to the sauna with him with that look on his face...! Plus, he's very cute about his hair. He's resilient, proud, and stubborn, which appeals to the Midwesterner in me.
This one is harder! I flip-flop. Right now, I'd say Miyaji. He's always got me on the verge of tears, he's very tall, and he carried us in his demon form (I'm a sucker for kemonomimi). But it could also be Lato or Fennesz or Lono at any given moment. Lato's emotional growth has been so wonderful. Fennesz is always blushing and making adorable sounds (😈). And Lono reminds me of my actual husband (who says AkuNeko is the best/prettiest out of all the mobile games I play).
I'm behind on Chapter 2 (halfway through?) because I have a tendency to hoard story. I don't know why I'm like this... but I don't think there's anything in there that will change my mind.
I love them all! I can't believe how well-written they are, and how human they feel. The dev team behind Akuneko is wonderful.

Berrien: Excuse me, Master and Hanamaru-san. I'd like to confirm some things with the upcoming schedule...
Hanamaru: Ah, that's fine by me. But Berrien... Isn't that just an excuse? The truth is, you want to see the Master don't you~?
Berrien: N-no way! I have no such intention... A-anyway, please excuse me, Master.
Hanamaru: That Berrien... A bull's eye, huh? He got all flustered and left without doing any confirmation... I've always thought he was the cool and collected type. Who would have known he has such a cute side that only appears before you, Master?

I love this skit so much because... well, Berrien is cute, but Hanamaru??? Isn't Berrien is supposed to be like, what, more than 300 years older than you??? What an exemplary way to treat your elder 😂
Then again, akuneko age's hierarchy works differently than in real world (or in any other games). The years a butler's spent after his contract starts don't seem to count as... as a way to measure seniority (?). Which is why Hanamaru will always be the oldest and Flure the youngest. Huh. I'm personally still not used to that.
But it has been already confirmed that such is indeed the case, specifically in the end part of episode 2.5, where an intriguing conversation between Lono and Teddy happened. (Have I ever talked about this?). It goes more or less like this: Teddy asked Lono why he attached a suffix onto his name (implied question: why are you being polite to me?). Shouldn't it be the other way given that Lono is *supposed to be* older and more experienced job-wise than Teddy? Lono's reply: "Because it's the existing rule in the Devil's Palace. Whether or not you're superior is determined by the age you become a devil butler. Since Teddy-san is 25 and I'm 22, you are my senior!" He then adds that Teddy is welcome to use an informal language with him (before, Teddy talks politely to Lono, or everyone else for that matter).
Hmm... Does that rule have significance that's been mentioned or am I forgetting something? Going back to Hanamaru, him being the oldest when he became a devil butler means he's indeed Berrien's senior in the Devil's Palace. In the Masquerade Jewel event, there's also a scene where Haures technically the third oldest in the palace consult Hanamaru in a way a younger one does to the older.
Somehow, I still can't wrap my head around it. Not in a bad way, I mean. It's just so fascinating to think about.
