@taikouvember Day 7: Free Day - "The Light of Hope"
I was contemplating whether or not I should draw "The Beginning" spoilers for the event in particular already, but since I was desperately hoping to get some Taishirou breadcrumbs from the movie... I needed to get it out of my system after all.
SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am still majorly disappointed that we didn't see their reactions to the LIFE-CHANGING events of the final act of the movie. There was a montage! I WANTED THEM TO BE THERE.
And that's why I had to draw this. It was not the resolution to Kizuna I had hoped for. As far as we know (because we absolutely cannot be sure), Taichi and Agumon have not reunited yet. But Taichi has worked relentlessly, on his thesis, on becoming a driving force to help both worlds to form a symbiosis one day. Being reminded of the loss of his partner every day by looking at his Digivice, turned into lifeless stone.
And then there is Koushirou. Who promised he would find a way to fix all of this. He has already become a renowned expert in regard to all Digimon related issues - so it was absolutely no surprise to me that he and Taichi would end up doing PR work. Together.
As implied by the start of the movie, they were stressed and overworked - and in the end, we didn't even see their reactions to it all. Basically, they wouldn't even have known what's going on there. Why their Digivices suddenly started to dissolve, as nobody had told them about the course of events, nobody had consulted them. It really must have felt like another set-back. Another loss.
Even though it may actually be a start of something new. The light of the Digivices leading the way to the sky, to space; a ray of hope, leading the way to the reunion, the renewal of the bond they're both wishing for.

Digimon is funny, cause it gets a lot of generalizations. But one of my favorite out of context things is Agumon.
Tumblr media
This is Agumon. He is the poster child of the series, and thus, the Pikachu equivalent. He’s still very popular and beloved.
And you’re like, “Okay. What’s the big deal?” Well…
Tumblr media
This is BlackAgumon. Where Agumon evolves to dinosaur and dragon focused being with Fire based powers, BlackAgumon evolves to similar ones who utilize darkness. Hence, he’s an evil equivalent of Agumon.
Easy enough, right. Not too crazy. Next up, we got…
Tumblr media
SnowAgumon! I’m sure you’re thinking ‘Okay. Same as BlackAgumon but ice, right?’
Nope! IceGreymon does not exist. Instead, this little buddy will turn into stray ice Digimon (like a snowman or an ice golem) or aquatic Digimon (like a sea serpent).
So yeah. A little weird. But not a big deal.
Then…
Tumblr media
…Yes. This is a real Digimon. This Lego dude is a legitimate Digimon that has existed almost as long as Digimon has existed.
This is ToyAgumon, and often evolves into various toy-like Digimon, mechanical Digimon, or heroic beast Digimon.
This funny little dude brings us to our next one.
Tumblr media
This is ClearAgumon. Why would an Agumon exist to be represented by the concept of ‘being see-through’ and being made of Legos?
I have no idea.
This one tends to share properties with ToyAgumon, but occasionally has the strange ability to turn into angelic Digimon in some games.
You could make a ‘it’s a ghost toy’ argument, but Digimon is filled with ghosts and ‘haunted house’ scenarios… where ClearAgumon is never used!
But then it gets weirder.
Tumblr media
This is BlackToyAgumon. The name of this Digimon has changed from time to time. Also, you can see that he is clear like ClearAgumon. That feature comes and goes for this Digimon, yet it is always some form of ‘ToyAgumon’.
This Digimon is used for… all sorts of evolutions. Honestly, this is just a Digimon that exists.
Tumblr media
This is Agumon Expert, or Agumon Hakase, which I prefer for Nichijou reasons.
I wish I could say he is used for game tutorials or something, but… I have no idea. But I love him.
Tumblr media
This is Nise Agumon Hakase. … I dunno. He teaches about eugenics or runs the academy from Bloodborne. Whatever. Not as good.
There are more, and I find it funny how any other series would be like, “STOP WITH THE AGUMONS!! Yet the fandom seems largely cool with most of these dudes showing up in a singular game, whether they are playable or not.
Anyway, I wish Agumon got in Smash and got to use some of these alts.
Yeah, that was what this was leading to.

apparently shoutmon and shoutmon king version are seen as different enough that some fans say the king version is an evolution of the normal shoutmon, which i think sounds fair enough from a character growth standpoint but would also imply that any shoutmon can be king which wouldnt make sense in digimon.. but you (in my opinion) have a better understanding of digimon meta and canon so whats your opinion?
also do you think it was intentional that Shoutmon never got more evolution based forms except for omegashoutmon?
I'm hardly an expert on Digimon taxonomy, but since Shoutmon King has its own Reference Book entry, is a Level 4 in the card game (Shoutmon is Level 3), and is Adult in the current system, I think it's safe to say the King version is fundamentally an evolved form or a form change in a sense. I don't think it necessarily implies that any Shoutmon can be king, though; for instance, just because Taichi and Yamato's Agumon and Gabumon can become Omegamon doesn't mean any Agumon or Gabumon can. Reaching a new evolution would still rely on each respective's universe's respective mechanics, so in the Xros Wars world, the Shoutmon King evolution requirement would truly be "become king", and I highly doubt Bandai will be showing up with a new Digimon entry where a whole army of Shoutmon evolve into King form anytime soon. Obviously, evolving one this way is effortless in things like card games, but a card game match is "outside story canon" anyway so it's not a big deal.
As for the second question, I think it was intentional, in the sense that Xros Wars probably wanted to minimize traditional evolution as much as possible, since it had a stake in needing to emphasize DigiXros as a mechanic. If traditional evolution showed up too much, it'd probably cause conflict with Xros Wars trying to set itself apart from earlier Digimon entries as much as possible and not just fall back into the old formulas (after all, Death Generals still mainly uses super-evolution in the sense that you can have stronger components for DigiXros, but DigiXros is still the core mechanic). If I remember correctly, traditional evolution does exist normally in the Xros Wars world, it's just that it's treated as a fairly standard form of "growth" with less fanfare than it would in Adventure or so.

So, I’m not sure if you noticed, but I’m a Digimon fan as well. So I thought: why not combine two of my favorite franchises into one? In this case, I’m giving the OG6 Avengers (+Ronnie and Rosalyn, my OCs) Digimon partners! So, let’s get started.
The Original 6
Tony Stark: Veemon > Raidramon > Cyberdramon > Justimon
Steve Rogers: Ludomon > TiaLudomon > RaijiLudomon > BryweLudramon
Thor: Elecmon > Beetlemon > Zudomon > Vikemon
Bruce Banner: Agumon Expert > Ogremon > Asuramon > Boltmon
Natasha Romanoff: KoDokugumon > Dokugumon > Arukenimon > BelleStarmon
Clint Barton: Impmon > Nohemon > Zamielmon > Gaioumon
My OCs
Ronnie Banner: Terriermon Assistant > Meicoomon > Lamortmon > Rasenmon/Rasenmon Fury Mode
Rosalyn Sharp: Ghostmon > BlackGatomon > LadyDevimon > Ophanimon Falldown Mode
Whew! That took a lot of thought. I’ll explain the reason why I chose each partner later.

Red and Green Beginner Decks
I feel like even the starter decks are sometimes stacked with too much text so I put together a couple of deck lists for if you ever wanted to teach a friend how to play but they’ve never played a card game and you don’t want to overwhelm them with too many mechanics when they are still learning the basics.

Yesterday, when I tried watching the first episode of Ghost Game with my friend, obvious vital bracelet advertising aside, there was something so out of place that tbh it's the only thing I have thinking since: why the fuck was Clockmon freely controlling time?! Like the tidbit about how Clockmon can only control time from 1900 to 1999 is the only thing memorable of him, THAT piece of random info is the only thing that makes me remember of him. Also, why was he evil when the description literally states that he tends to be neutral because It's that powerful. Worse of all, I can excuse the second part because plot or something, but I highly doubt that the show takes place before 1999 to justify the time control shenanigans.
You see, this is something that highly irritates me about Bandai/Toei, they tend to sand off the edge of facts of digimon to make them easy to write with them or to be more appealing to the general public.
The most famous example: the fact that Metalgreymon's body is rejecting the metal parts, turning him into a Virus and having his flesh almost rotting IS what makes metalgreymon cool, but the anime needed to give him to a child, so bandai did the most cowardly decision posible and created vaccine Metalgreymon.Hell, you could say something similar happens too with the "gabumon original evolution was Kabuterimon, Garurumon was the equivalent to Tyrannomon in Agumon", AND THAT'S NOT EVEN TOEI because it was already changed in digimonworld 1.
These kinds of random, out of place, tidbits are what make digimon designs fun, like imagine if Monzaemon was no longer Numemon in a suit, it would be just a random teddy bear monster. Or imagine if Gabumon was just a Garurumon baby, instead of being a digimon that hides itself with Garurumon data. Hell, It's not even just old digimon designs, something like Bombermon(a digimon designed for the Vital Bracelet BE) being an expert demolition artist searching for the most beutiful explosion or FUCKING CENDRILLMON MAKING BATTLE ROYALES, demostrates to me that is something still on digimon design, making it even more painful when they decide to sand them off.
