Interview with Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid and Bailey Bass of “Interview with The Vampire” on AMC and AMC+ by Suzanne 9/29/22

This was a fun roundtable with the three stars of this great new vampire show. If you love vampire shows, or the Anne Rice novels, you should love this show. It’s very well done, and these actors are great in it. Jacob plays Louie, and we see the story through his eyes as told to ailing reporter Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian, who’s outstanding as always). Sam Reid plays LeStat, the seductive vamp that turns Louie and becomes his friend, lover, mentor, etc. Bailey plays Claudia, the young woman that joins them. They were very kind and fun to interview.

Suzanne: Hi, I’m Suzanne Lanoue from TVMEG.com, and I’ve watched the first episode. I didn’t get screeners till this morning, so I only got to watch the first one so far, but I’m really enjoying it. It just grabs you and drags you in. So, congratulations on being renewed for season two already, which is great. Do you know when you’ll be starting to film season two, or have you already started filming it?

JACOB ANDERSON: We haven’t started. We haven’t started shooting, no.

SAM REID: Probably, I don’t know if we can say anything. [Laughs]

Suzanne: Have they told you yet?

JACOB ANDERSON: They haven’t not told us anything.

Suzanne: [Chuckles} OK, well, thank you!

Jamie from SCIFI VISION: Hi, I’m Jamie Ruby from SciFi Vision. Thanks for talking to us today, I really enjoyed the first five episodes that we’ve seen. So, for the three of you, can you kind of talk about how you balanced what you pulled from the book versus what you added with your own spin on it?

SAM REID: Hello, Jamie, I’ll answer that. No. But I would say that anything for myself and my character, my own spin probably came from my own interpretation of the books and Rolins’ work. So, I wasn’t really trying to put any of my own spin on it. It’s just how I imagined it to be, really.

JACOB ANDERSON: Yeah. I second that. It’s like, you will always view a character through your own lens to an extent and then it’s just kind of, I mean, I guess with anything, it’s like, do other do the other creative people like that, and do they want to discuss it? But you don’t want to mess with this. Like the combination of Anne Rice’s writing and Rolins’ writing, you don’t really want to touch it, you don’t want to just sort of throw your own stuff in just for the sake of it.

SAM REID: They’re so dense already the characters that it sort of would be a shame to try and deviate too much of thing.

JACOB ANDERSON: What could you possibly add?

SAM REID: Yeah.

BAILEY BASS: I feel the exact same way. It’s really, yes, we were cast because there’s something special in us that Rolin and the entire team really enjoyed when we were doing our auditions. But other than that, it’s really just doing the research and the book, reading the scripts, doing our own technique, and then just coming and creating in this world.

Jamie: Okay, great. Thank you so much.

Jamie from STARRY MAG: This is Jamie Steinberg, with Starry Constellation Magazine. Jacob, this is another deeply tortured soul for you to portray. Is there something about these kinds of characters that really draw you to them? Or is this them finding their way to you? Or is it something you see in them that really resonates with you and makes you want to portray them?

JACOB ANDERSON: I think it’s a combination of both. We find each other. I think I’m slightly less like Grey Worm than I am like Louis. But yeah, I mean, I think you normally want to be like very boundaried when you talk about things and be like, “Oh, well, I’m so removed from the character, and I’m brilliant at acting and blah blah blah blah blah”. But to be honest, yeah, I feel very, very connected to Louis. It’s the thing that bothered me about how Anne Rice wrote him, and also how Rolin wrote him as well. Yeah, I’m drawn to characters who are searching. And I’d ask him questions, not just about the world, but about their place in it and what they contribute or don’t contribute to it. But yeah, I also I felt like it would be like, narcissistic of me to be like, “I am the only person who can play Louis.” But namely, because there is somebody else that’s done it, as well. Many people.

Jamie: Well, I think you brings such a unique take on it, though, because of the artistry you have. Both of these characters that you mentioned, have just been wonderfully nuanced, I think through your portrayal. So it might be just a little bit time for you to pat yourself on the back for what you’ve brought to the role on your own.

JACOB ANDERSON: This one’s for you, Bailey.

QUESTION: Question for Jacob and Sam, one of the really interesting things about this particular adaptation is the romance that we kind of finally get to see between Louis and Lestat. Can you speak to that a little bit? What does it mean to you to be able to portray that relationship in that way?

SAM REID: Well, I think AMC has the rights to the entire Vampire Chronicles, and so it’s very important to make sure that relationship is established early on. Particularly as the books progress, it becomes much more clear that they are in a very intense romantic relationship. So, I think it’s it’s great to make sure that we’re serving the story correctly. And it wouldn’t be Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire if it wasn’t there. So, yeah.

QUESTION: I was wondering, and this is kind of specifically for Bailey and Sam, the show doesn’t shy away from race or that being a factor at all for their very long life experience. Was that important to you? And were you afraid of any ignorant backlash, because previously, the characters were paid by white actors?

BAILEY BASS: I was really excited to play Claudia. It’s really a dream to play such a complex character that’s very loud and unapologetic. I honestly didn’t think twice about anything else. I just knew that Rolin was very intentional about the actors that he wanted to cast in the show, and I’m very fortunate that I was one of them. I just dove into all the research. I read the book. I would cross reference the book and the script and see the quotes that Rolin took from the book and was very intentional about adding them into the script. After doing all the research, I mean, I became Claudia and it was fun to play her.

JACOB ANDERSON: Yeah, I think something that Rolin’s done, which is – I’m almost loath to call it important, but like it creates a richness is that this isn’t a colorblind casting situation. Louis’ central question is about his humanity and his place in humanity. I think that if you were to cast a black actor or black actors for Louis and Claudia, and to not address that, you’d take a lot away from that question of their humanity. I’m glad that we don’t shy away from it. And in terms of backlash, I just don’t want to give it energy anymore. Like I just – people are going to – I think people need to be seen. Sometimes they’ll say anything to be seen or recognized, and it’s sad, but it’s the internet.

QUESTION: I would love for you to talk a little bit about what it’s like just being vampires, being able to play vampires when biting people and having these kinds of scenes. What goes into that and how much fun is that to play? How difficult is that to play?

SAM REID:

It’s very fun. It’s very fun. Yeah, you know, because we’ve got a lot of elements that come into every scene. So, they’re very beautiful, sort of rich dialogue-heavy scenes, but we also have this whole element of the vampire, you know, he kills, so we’ll be pausing for the blood to be put in. We had all these different types of blood that we’d been drinking and tasting, and they made us hibicus flavored blood when we had to drink large amounts of it.

JACOB ANDERSON:

It did not taste like hibiscus. It tasted like it was like a Sour Patch Kid.

SAM REID: Yeah.

JACOB ANDERSON: But in liquid form.

SAM REID: But there’s a lot of thought and consideration [that had] gone into this. But yeah, it’s so much fun, really. Vampires are, I think, the best type of monster, because they have so much humanity. They’re so articulate. They experience a huge amount. Anne Rice is responsible for our shift in vampires, because she puts the perspective into the eyes of the monster, and you have empathy for them. So, it’s very fun to do these really extreme, horrific things, but also with a level of understanding and empathy and bringing that into the character. So, it’s a fun thing to do.

JACOB ANDERSON: It’s the best! It’s the best. The best monsters.

Jamie from SCIFI VISION: So, obviously, you guys do go to some really dark places, though, with your characters. Can you sort of talk about getting into that headspace, and how you sort of, I guess, get back out of it? Is it hard to sort of go there? For all three of you.

BAILEY BASS: Yeah, it’s hard. We had such long days that it kind of, for me personally, it was hard for me to differ[entiate], like, who’s Claudia and who’s Bailey. So, I kind of had to, like really sit with myself and reflect, but it’s hard. But then also, this is what I love to do, and playing such an extreme character, that’s what makes it fun is that I get to relive and be in these spaces that I would never normally be in if I didn’t get to play Claudia. But the dark, even though it’s dark and everything, I definitely enjoyed it. And I had Sam and Jacob, which they were incredible scene partners, and we all had each other. We made sure that throughout the whole process, our mental health, even though we’re like hysterically crying sometimes that afterwards, our mental health was still good,

SAM REID: I think to Bailey’s point, like, sometimes the darkest jobs or the darkest sets where the material is the most bleak are the most fun, because, we instinctively know how to just kind of like, help ourselves through that. So, we’ll be making a lot of jokes. You know, it is ridiculous, sometimes what we’re doing, and you have to step back and think [laughs] You know, we’re suspended in the air, covered in blood, so we just kept it light. It was a fun thing to do.

JACOB ANDERSON: Yeah, I agree. I mean, it’s dense. It’s dense, so you need to focus on the language as well. Like, aside from, yeah, we had a lot of fun, but when you’re doing the scene, you focus on what you’re doing. And I think if you let yourself get dragged into it too much, then hard to to do your job, I think.

Jamie from STARRY MAG: Bailey, this is such a beautiful costume you have. Talk about when you first saw what you’d be wearing for the series, and if you had any input, and if it takes really putting on that costume to embody your character.

BAILEY BASS: Costume is one of my favorite things in my job, being able to speak with the costume designer and be able to talk about what she saw when she read the script, because it’s not just me, it’s a big collaboration of an incredible crew that helps make us look good, basically. And to be able to talk to hair, makeup, and costume and get to know what their first ideas were when they read the script, and then being able to collaborate with them and say what I thought, was really, really fun. And the costume designer for this show, Carol, was just so collaborative. I came in and we were talking about posture. That’s a very big thing for Claudia, because in the beginning, she’s like fourteen years old, and she’s excited being a vampire. She would shrug a lot and just walked like, however and had terrible posture. So, the costume designer would think about that when she was making the costumes. And then also I have to look like a little girl. So, she created these beautiful bows along with making sure that the shape of my costumes hid any curves possible. So, when I put them on, I really felt like a little girl. So, when I was doing the scenes where Claudia is struggling, she wants to be a woman, and I’m sitting in this pink dress that it’s not flattering to anything that’s me as Bailey, it was really easy to feel what Claudia would be feeling at that moment.

Suzanne: I really enjoyed the wedding scene and your dancing, Jacob; that was great. Was that actually you dancing? And did you have to train for that, or did you already know how, and will there be any more singing or dancing in the show?

JACOB ANDERSON: That was me and Steven Norfleet, who plays Paul, and we had about a month to train, to practice. I don’t know if you’ve ever done tap dancing, but it’s like learning how to walk again, like how to walk for the first time, like to get your brain to coordinate in that way and to like shift the weight of your body is really confusing. And to add to that we did a lot of our lessons on Sikkim (???). And it’s all like, it’s all sound. You like making music with your feet, but with the lag of, of like, you know, doing it online. But you just drill; you just drill it every day. You drill it every day, and just you have to listen. It’s less about like being mechanical about your body and just like listening to the sound. But there is there is more dancing in the show.

Suzanne: Oh, good.

JACOB ANDERSON: Yeah. It was in the trailer, right?

SAM REID: Yeah, the three of us did dancing lessons.

JACOB ANDERSON: Yeah, we did.

QUESTION: I’m curious to just have any of you or all of you talk a little bit about what you love most about the dynamic between all three of your characters, either once Claudia comes in, or kind of as that progresses.

JACOB ANDERSON: I find it, I think from Louis’ point of view, he’s trying to recreate a kind of family dynamic that he is grieving for in his human life. I think it’s probably the thing that he misses most in some ways. It’s like a grounding thing, is his brother and his sister and his mom, maybe to a lesser extent, but maybe not. So, I find the way that it kind of goes for them, and for him, it’s kind of unexpected. I think he wanted, he was hoping that in bringing somebody else into their family, I think he thought that Claudia might be like him. [laughs] So, it’s interesting. I feel like an outcast, but to also be a part of – I mean, I’ll let Bailey talk more about about that part of it, but really, Claudia ends up being sort of forgotten about a little bit, and their dynamic, which is sad.

BAILEY BASS: I think what’s wonderful though, is that there’s really no protagonist or antagonist. It changes through every scene in every episode, because these characters are so specific and complex, and Rolin Jones, the writer of the show, did an incredible job of explaining in depth why we do what we do. There’s a reason why we kill the people that we do, why we hurt each other. And because of that, the viewer kind of feels bad for the person hurting the other, but then also feels bad for the person being hurt.

QUESTION: So, obviously, as vampires, your characters live very long lives. Which era would you like to see, be able to play your character in?

JACOB ANDERSON: 80s 80s 80s. I want the pastels. I want the hair. Let’s go, 80s.

SAM REID: I’d probably do the 1700s. I think Lestat really that is where he’s from, and that’s the era in which he was born into, so I’d quite like to see him in that in that era.

BAILEY BASS: I just want to get to the 50s. Like, I just want Claudia to get to the 50s so I can wear all those skirts and just explore more hairstyles, because we evolved. Doing the prep work, there wasn’t a lot of hairstyles – we had a horrible of time looking for photos of black girls in that time period with very versatile hair, which we know they existed, just no one took pictures of them. So, to be able to expand that more and show women who have curly hair, that this is what they look like in that time. I’d love to expand that and go into the 40s and 50s.

KINITOPET THEORY: SONNY_C IS KINITO

there's a lot of evidence for this, so i'll show you guys it! (i got most of the pictures from Forever Nenaa's gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UsjIm7G7bE&t=1409s)

#1. if you type kinitopet.com/email in your real web browser this image pops up "as the subject of your article has unfortunately passed away", DID KINITO KILL SONNY OR SOMETHING?? THE HELL?? i think that whenever kinito pulls someone into his digital world, it kills them in a way. he asks them for admin permission, then uses that power to do the shit he's doing so, those people in the command prompt are dead! ___________________________________________

#2. i don't know if you can see the image, but i've looked at the command prompt when it was deleting kinito and it says "removing file [sonnys_world.zip] from server ["kinito"]" which is pretty interesting... i'd also like to say, i think that dead body in sam's house is one of those people that you see in the command prompt... i do have a theory about sam and jade being humans but there's not much evidence except for sam's hanging body and when jade(?) says "i'm back here again, aren't i?" ___________________________________________ #3. the "IT'S NOT TOO LATE" email decoded

i find this email especially very, very interesting. the line "a soul enshrouded, a spirit's mournful chime" is most likely about the other trapped souls... i honestly do not know what else to say about this poem, other than the fact that it is very impressive how the person wrote it so uniquely! this does imply some dark stuff though, like how kinito traps the souls of the players in the computer. ___________________________________________ #4. the "EJSY SZ O?" email decoded (click the images to expand)

"I FEAR THAT WHEN YOU DELETE THAT SERVER YOU WILL DELETE ME" OHHH now we're talkin.. seeing at the very end, this makes me think that kinito took some of the stuff that sonny was saying in his head, and saying it directly to the player when he got deleted (kinito GUILT TRIPPING us god damn). and, from this email, sonny appears to be having an existential crisis! maybe the ai is feeding off of the souls' emotions for its own gain. it learns and adapts, remember? also, the "I KNOW THEORETICALLY I AM NOT REAL BUT I FEEL REAL" line makes me think that kinito took over sonny's mind for just a little bit. does kinito feel empathy after taking all these poor souls? honestly i'm seeing a lot of similarities with tadc and kinitopet (even though kinitopet came before tadc with the trailer but STILLLL). souls being trapped in a digital world with no escape, and some ai that apparently wants to be your friend...ALSO CIRCUS THEMED ESQUE STUFF _________________________________________ #5. this guy from the kinito plush ad

am i the only one who thinks that this might be sonny? or, some completely different soul that arrived before you? _________________________________________ #6. the messages on the computer when you delete kinito

these messages hurt me to the bone. sonny used the power he had left to contact you in those last lines, saying his final goodbyes to you. he knew that it was inevitable for his fate to come, and it did. maybe the player burning the computer was freeing the souls somehow... you know DAMN WELL i thought of henry emily's speech while seeing that computer burn to a crisp i dont have a good conclusion for this but this is my theory that sonny_c is kinito (in a way)... But hey! that's just a theory. A GAY THEORY Wrong one A GAMMEEEE THEORY if i find more, i'll be sure to update this also i apologize if this isn't very well structured.. i just grabbed this stuff and said "holy shit sonny chamberlain is kinito"... i'd love to hear other people's theories though! i made this post at like 1 AM so that's why it's poorly written

"I've got you, Dream." Punz's voice was like low, rumbling thunder. He could feel the vibrations of their chest against his figure, small and tucked away in an inner pocket of their hoodie. It was warm inside, but not suffocating like his prison cell. Compressing, maybe, a heavy blanket.

His only warning was the sound of water bubbling down a creek before Punz leaped, sending his heart into his throat and making his long-empty stomach turning dangerously. He would have even flown out of the pocket, maybe, if it hadn't been for Punz's hand instantly holding it down, keeping him largely unjostled.

"Shit, you okay?" Punz's voice sounded worried. If Dream pressed his ear close, maybe he could even feel the fearful flutter of their heartbeat. "I'm sorry, that'll be the last one, just didn't want to risk swimming through with you here."

Dream hummed an affirmative. He wasn't sure he had the energy to do much else.

The prison had taken away a large number of his abilities, whether through pure exhaustion or through the commands meant to keep an admin from escaping. Admittedly, the ability to shrink hadn't been considered simply because he'd forgotten he'd had it, but even if he remembered, it likely wouldn't have been coded in anyway; It wasn't a very useful ability when you could be killed just by being stepped on.

Dream was creative, though, and when Techno had disappeared without warning, he knew he'd be the one who would pay the price, so he got to work. Sam couldn't feel much through his armor, didn't even notice the half ounce of weight gripping his leg. It was a terrifying twenty minutes of fearing what would happen if he was discovered, but it was worth it when Sam had bolted out of prison, and Dream felt fresh air for the first time in months.

He didn't grow back when he got out of sightline. He was running on spite and adrenaline, and the instant he stopped long enough to grow, he would pass out. Too risky. Too much. His body would simply have to wait, as it always did.

(Punz had been alarmed when they looked down to see Dream, but their touch was as tender as always as they dripped the tiniest drop healing and regen atop his head. They removed their favorite pocket knife from its place and slipped Dream there instead, right next to their heart. No matter what he was or how he appeared, he was still their Dream.)

"We're home." Punz sighed. There was a creaking of a door as it swung open and shut, and then the chill that had been fighting to get to Dream from inside the pocket abruptly disappeared.

Punz's boots clicked as they walked across the floorboards. "Are you able to grow back now or should I set something up?"

A hand made its way into the pocket. Delicately, it pulled Dream out and onto the palm of Punz's hand, cupping the sides to prevent him from falling.

"Can't... I'll pass out." Dream mumbled, turning on his side to grasp at their pinky finger. The man holding him scoffed, but their expression was soft.

"There's no shame in passing out after this whole thing- but if that's what you want."

"I do." Dream whispered, and the thumb that petted him was the kindest touch he'd felt in a lifetime.

Punz set him down on the bed below- yet another measure of safety, in case Dream had fallen- before shucking off their boots and socks. Their sweatshirt landed on the floor in a heap, and then their hand returned, using the back of the thumbnail to lift his prison shirt up.

"Punz," Dream grabbed at their thumb with flushed cheeks, trying to push them away, to hide his scarred and vulnerable underbelly.

"Just wanna get those off you." Punz assured him. "They look absolutely gross, dude, that can't be comfortable."

They weren't. Blood was tacky between his shoulderblades, making the uniform stick to him like a second skin. The material was grimy and rough and uncomfortable after- after Quackity's many visits, and there were holes in the legs of his pants that made them practically useless for coverage.

Still, Dream highly doubted Punz magically had doll clothes perfectly his size.

"Just- give me something else to cover up with, and I'll take them off."

Punz obediently stepped away, and Dream took a minute to breathe.

He watched them rummage through the closet, humming low. He couldn't help the way his heart swelled with fondness, even as he tried to push it down and feign neutrality. The safety of their bed and their hands had brought his defenses low, and watching them grin triumphantly at their find, he couldn't find himself to be upset about it.

"If you give me a sock, I'll kill you." Dream called.

Punz rolled their eyes. "You're too small for a sock. Here-!"

They tossed a something long and satin-like onto the bed, and when he went to turn it in his fingers, he realized it was a scarf.

"Why's this so silky?"

"I can't wear things for fashion now?" Punz raised a teasing eyebrow.

"It's impractical." Dream argued, even as he dutifully removed his shirt. Punz closed his eyes while he did, much to Dream's relief

"This is why I pick our date outfits."

Dream grumbled, but the feeling of fabric so gentle of his skin was a welcome relief, and he swore as soon as he was strong enough to grow again, he would clean the blood off his back. He pulled the scarf around him like a lengthy toga, ignoring the way it trailed behind him in favor of collapsing back into the mattress.

"I'm good."

In one smooth movement, Punz swept the prison clothes off the bed. Dream felt the mattress bounce him as his partner settled next to him. He let his eyes close, uncaring even as familiar hands once again lifted him up to cradle him in their palm.

"You're so pretty." Punz said. He sounded adoring. It made Dream's stomach clench.

"I look disgusting."

"Never." They nuzzled his figure, and all Dream could register was the warmth of their cheek. "You're always beautiful to me."

His breath stuttered as they kissed him quick. It covered almost his whole body, and Dream felt fuzzy with the affection.

"My love." Dream said, because it was okay to love Punz in the privacy of their room. It was okay to be loved, when he was with the person he trusted most.

"My love." Punz said in return, and the fingers that petted Dream were nothing less than reverent.

Why is Sam (LL COOL J) in Hawai’i? That’s the mystery that’s been set up across the first three episodes of NCIS: Hawai’i Season3, and as Vanessa Lachey told us, “Tennant will figure it out.” Well, we’re certainly seeing her trying to do just that.

It all began in the premiere, when Ernie (Jason Antoon) tried to get anything out of Sam, only to come to the conclusion that he’s hiding something, despite the agent’s insistence he’s not. Then, in the second episode, Swift (Henry Ian Cusick), on his way out, told Tennant that Sam was sticking around and she’d have to ask him why. Sam evaded the question and would only say that brass has him teaching a seminar on unconventional tactics in modern law enforcement.

Now, in the third episode, Ernie remains suspicious of Sam, especially since he’s going around telling everyone about that seminar, as he notes to Tennant. It’s odd, that NCIS would send its top OSP agent to Hawai’i to teach a class. She agrees, but she doesn’t get anything more out of Sam, who tells her she can’t attend the seminar because it’s fully booked.

Then, Tennant and Kai (Alex Tarrant) find Sam has taken over the war room—and set it to SCIF (sensitive compartmented information facility) level—for some work. “I was checking in with Kensi and Deeks back in LA, getting some details about a past case,” he claims, agreeing, when she suggests it, that it was for his seminar. “Safety first,” he says. Tennant’s clearly not buying any of it … which is why she tracks his visitor ID’s access and follows when he sets foot in the old admin basement across the street that hasn’t been used since WWII. Inside, she finds him teaching his seminar. It’s both as frustrating as Tennant finds it and entertaining as it sounds. But come on, would you expect this to play out any other way?

At the end of the episode, Tennant joins Sam on his boat, and he again pretends he’s just in Hawai’i for the seminar. As far as an official cover goes, it’s a good one, she remarks, reminding him, “I spent half my life as a CIA officer. I know cover.” It doesn’t matter what she believes, she adds, just that she trusts him and she knows he’ll tell her why he’s really in Hawai’i when he can.

But we’re not as patient as Tennant is. Now, we have to wonder if Sam was really talking to Kensi and Deeks (played by Daniela Ruah and Eric Christian Olsen on NCIS: Los Angeles, which ended its 14-season run in May 2023) or someone else, plus if it was about a past case or something else. Before he came to the island, Sam was last seen in the LA finale in Morocco, alongside Callen (Chris O’Donnell), Nell (Renée Felice Smith), and the team she’d put together—including Nate (Peter Cambor) and Sabatino (Erik Palladino)—as part of the mission to rescue Hetty. He was still there and therefore in the neighborhood, when he came to Tennant and Kate’s (Tori Anderson) aid in the Hawai’i Season 2 finale.

Could Sam have been talking to Kensi and Deeks or someone from that team Nell put together about Hetty? We haven’t heard anything about that mission to rescue her. What if Sam’s in Hawai’i because that’s the only place to get information as to her location or something that will help there? Or maybe there’s another open case that Sam’s working and he was talking to Kensi and Deeks about that. It could even technically be a past case that was never closed and therefore he wasn’t technically lying to Tennant and Kai. This could be why LL COOL J was vague when we tried to find out if we’d get an update on any of the LA characters with him now on Hawai’i.

Whatever’s going on, at least it’s clear that we will get answers, with Ernie suspicious and Tennant letting Sam know that he can talk to her when he can. What do you think is going on? Let us know in the comments below.

Though very shy around others, Bree has a good head on her shoulders and a kind heart. She values the work she does, making sure to help others as best as she can. Not only does she care about her patients, but she also likes to help out her friends and coworkers. Being useful for a greater good is something truly valuable to her, though it can sometimes get the better of her.

Bree struggles quite a bit with stress. She tries to push herself to a point where burnout is inevitable. All she wants is to be helpful, but it can cause her to feel tired and depressed after the long days of work. She feels guilty about the idea of leaving her field of work, as so many patients count on her care. It makes her feel a bit stuck and frustrated. Her biggest dream in life is to become a writer, becoming the next Bram Stoker or Mary Shelley.

She’s fascinated with romance and monsters, inspired to bring such two complex things together. During her free time, she enjoys writing down short stories that she hopes to get published some day.

Bree is used to blending into the background, not really one to get attention from boys in her teenage years. However, she has blossomed into a beautiful young woman, and others are starting to notice her more. Since she’s not used to such affection and attention, it makes her quite bashful~

𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: Bree is often in her work uniform. As a nurse, she wears a light blue work dress with a white collar, cuffs and belt. Outside of work, she prefers to wear more soft and loose clothing. Usually she wears fun sweatshirts and stretchy jeans with converse sneakers. A special accessory she wears every day is her silver key necklace. It has an amethyst gemstone in the center.

Her skin is quite pale, as she has to stay out of the sun, lest she want a nasty sunburn. She’s got a dusting of freckles on her face. Her makeup is plain, often just mascara and chapstick. She can’t do a full face of makeup every day, as it would just end up on her face mask whenever she puts it on.

Bree is more chubby in her features, making her insecure compared to the thin, toned bodies she sees on the Santa Carla boardwalk. However, she’s got several beautiful features and a shapely body. Her hair is flowing and thick with brunette color. She’s got some natural highlights from the rays of the sunshine. She often hides behind her long hair, sometimes too shy to show her face.

𝐉𝐨𝐛: She’s a nurse at Santa Carla Medical Clinic. She works night shifts, as nobody else wants them. Bree is a natural night owl, so it ends up working in her favor. Most of her job is front desk admin work, but she also provides checkups and vaccinations/blood draws when need be.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞?: Bree is in your typical multi-roommate-in-small-apartment setup. She moved out to California with her friends so she could start fresh, and was able to get set up in the basement of the condo they found. Her roommates are usually asleep whenever she’s awake due to their different work hours, which she doesn’t mind. She finds peace in the night time, though she does tend to get lonely.

Though their home doesn’t have a lot of space, Bree has worked hard to make it cozy. It’s not far from the boardwalk, meaning a lot of shops are within walking distance.

𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲:

Bree has always been a bit of odd girl. Growing up, she found herself in the school library quite a bit. She was too shy to talk to other kids, and was afraid of bullies that would pick on her for being extra sensitive (not to mention they were quite unkind to her and her chubby features). She would often switch back and forth between romance novels and scary stories, finding equal interest in love and darkness. The two began to blend together, and she became attracted to the monsters that were supposed to frighten her. She found sympathy in these creatures, as she knew what it was like to feel isolated and tormented for simply being different.

A passion for writing her own stories was born, and every chance she got, she would eagerly write down stories of these monsters in her journal. Ones where they would get happy ending rather than tragic downfalls. It fueled her dream of becoming a writer someday, and even when she pursued a career in the medical field, she never forgot her true passion.

She became a bit more confident in herself when she got older, and ended up making close friends. They were very supportive of her work, and were there for her when her mother got sick. When she finished school and got her degree, Bree found out her friends had their sights set on California. The complete opposite side of the country. She was scared of such a massive change, but her family encouraged it, as she would have more opportunities for her writing to get noticed in such an environment. Touched by their support, Bree took the jump and moved cross-country with her friends.

Until she can fulfill her writing dream, she’s working hard as a nurse. Not only does she provide for herself, but for her beloved chocolate labrador as well.

𝐂𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡: She’s torn at the moment. On the one hand, she is infatuated with Michael. He’s kind and gentle and very responsible. She admires the dedication he has to his family and appreciates his sweet nature keeping her spirits up. On the other hand, she can’t stop thinking about the mysterious pack of biker boys that she sees in her office now and then. There’s something about them that draws her in. Something dark and mysterious. It’s like a siren’s call, and she’s powerless around them.

(She wouldn’t mind a poly relationship, but she does have somewhat of an extra fondness for Dwayne, given how good he is with Laddie)

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡: Bree was able to use her degree to get set up at local primary care doctor’s office. It was there that she so happened to meet Michael Emerson, a handsome guy who decided to pursue physical therapy as a study once he got his GED. He worked part time in between night school, and Bree was completely smitten whenever they had the same shift. He was so doting and kind. A perfect gentleman who never failed to put a smile on her face. Sometimes his mother and little brother would stop by for a checkup or to simply say hello, and Bree found herself adoring them too.

Michael explained to her at one point that he had a devastating breakup with a runaway girl he met during a past summer. He didn’t like to talk about what led to their breakup, but Bree never forced him to tell more. She was simply happy to be there for him, and she had a feeling that he was starting to open his heart up to her in return.

However, he wasn’t the only man in her life.

During quieter nights, Bree started to get visits from four mysterious, yet very sexy bikers. They would ask for a walk-in appointment. A cut here, a sprain there, usual stuff. Normally, the office didn’t take walk-ins, but she was happy to examine them on her own. She suspected something was off about them when she found that their bodies weren’t exactly….normal. The stethoscope she used never could pick up a heartbeat. The blood sample she collected looked sparkly in the light. The thermometer always said their temperature was far below what it should have been.

She was frightened at first…..but soon became intrigued.

They were all so mysterious and unusual. The four of them watched her with hunger in their eyes. They’d coo sweet nothings to her, offering to take her out for a date or a ride on their motorcycles. Ask her back to their place for a drink. The more she got to know them personally, the more tempted she felt to listen to their call. Bree had the same fascination in the boys as she did with the monsters she read about growing up.

Little does she know that her indecision between Michael and the Lost Boys is more akin to a fight between good and evil~

c!dream drabble I talked about. all impulsive writing I did on the train so don't judge me

people look at him the same way they did before, at first. some with anger, hatred; others with fear they try oh so hard to hide but ultimately fail when their body language betrays the cold face they put on. some are just indifferent, as they used to be.

it takes them less than three seconds, as far as his experiences tell, for them to notice. then their expressions change, even if for a brief moment before they fix up an emotionless facade again. he finds it amusing to watch, as much as he can with the situation.

every admin reflects their world, gets something from them and gives as much in return. for Dream, the most obvious one has always been his wings - those of the ender dragon that less than a handful of people have even gotten close to seeing with their own eyes. it's all written in books, though, found in mansions and villages and temples. everyone has heard about them in childhood stories and seen illustrations in the old writings. it's the first thing that everyone used to notice about him. his hair used to shine gold like the midday sun falling on fields and curling around his pointed ears when he let it fall freely on his shoulders, his eyes like the green of the forests of his world he so dearly loved, brown specks shining when the sun reflected off of them.

his friends used to tease him about how his wings raised high above him whenever he got excited or saw someone he loved approaching. they hated how he used to impulsively jump off of high cliffs and only take flight right before the hit the bottom, and they used to love how the light got filtered through the black-purple of the wings. he used them to protect his friends from the winds and rain, to shield them from the scorching heat of their sun in the summers. Sapnap used to reach up to ruffle his hair to make it frizzy and George would braid it back for him, not too tight and not too loose, when it annoyed him too much. they said they never understood how he climbed all those trees, without making a sound too, with the size of his wings and how he digged through caves in manhunts and managed to fit through the smallest cracks.

everything was different now.

Now, whenever someone looked at him for more than a few seconds, they noticed everything that was wrong with him. his hair was long, way past his shoulders and no longer curling but instead matted and tangled, no matter how much he tried to brush them out, and bleached white. it didn't look natural, it didn't look human and it did not look like him. it wasn't. only when he was out of prison and washed off of everything ugly that was sticking to his skin did he notice. he had looked at the mirror, saw his hair falling around his face white, his face covered in scars that weren't there before, freckles he's had as far as he can remember no longer there. there are still cuts on his knuckles from the broken glass.

he did not need a mirror to notice the huge emptiness in the space behind him, wings no longer there to rise twice his height into the sky and take in all the light around. he didn't like thinking back to that day. even Sam had been speechless. he hadn't stayed conscious enough to see them separated from him despite feeling it in his very core, nor he knew what had been done with them. he had decided that he didn't want to learn.

people notice, and they take a few seconds to collect themselves and kept on with whatever threat they were spewing out or weapon they were gripping in their hand. he thought he saw some sort of hesitance to continue with it after the initial shock subsides, he thinks he doesn't want it.

he knows it's a lot to take in. Techno had been the first to see him after everything, aside from Sam and Quackity, and unlike how he imagines other people would've reacted, Technoblade had the decency to be kind and not mention it, though he did have that flash of pity that Dream thought he saw for a second.

Punz's reaction was the worst, because of the care and sadness and shock they had all written without them holding it back, and Dream had watched their eyes as they took in the scars and the torn jumpsuit and the blood, his hair and his wings that were no longer there. it had hurt, in a way he couldn't explain and he had opted to staring down at the snow that was getting stained with a mix of dry and fresh blood and swallowing his feelings down.

he hated seeing the faces when people noticed. noticed how thin he was and the way his clothes were all askew and how he looked barely like half the person they knew and feared.

he hated how much he had changed and lost and he hated how nothing, after all, would be the same as before after those three seconds passed for people to take notice.

premise: techno is a soft-touch when it comes to animals, anyone can tell you that much. there's rarely been a mob, peaceful or not, that he's not willing to take in. so when he finds a rabbit in the woods, injured and scared, he takes it in without a second thought and names it gary.

dream does not like the name 'gary'.

but dream, a rabbit hybrid with the ability to shift completely to an animal form unlike other hybrids, has just escaped from pandora's vault and is struggling with the aftermath of horrific torture and the uncertainty of his future. rabbits, however, don't have plans to make everyone hate them in a desperate bid to return things to normal. as a rabbit, things are simple and that's all he really wants.

now techno and the other members of the syndicate need to decide where they stand and show dream things can be simple, that it can be okay. the only question is, will they be able to get through to him? and will they be able to keep him safe?

characters: technoblade, dream, phil, niki, ranboo, michael underscore beloved, and minor scenes with sam and quackity

setting: canon divergent dsmp with admin dream aspects, follows some plot beats of canon

general feel: a bit darker than previous works, hurt and comfort, focus on the effect severe trauma has on someone, realizing that the past is gone and the way forward might hurt but there are people who will help you, sometimes to truly feel safe you need to stop running even though running is the only thing you know, kindness and healing can be done out of spite, sometimes love looks more like a terribly frosted cake than anything else, gentleness might be holy.

as someone who. does not keep up with games pre-release, like, at all. what was below zero like before it was changed? i don't think i even heard about BZ until after it was released which is shocking considering how obsessed i am with the first game lmao

God so. It was actually pretty dang different. Jacksepticeye has a playlist where he played through the early access below zero builds. If you were unsatisfied with below zero (as i very much was), I greatly recommend looking up the playthroughs and checking them out cause the whole arc is sooo much better than what we ended up getting

for starters, robin's sister sam wasnt dead. Robin and her spoke to each other, as her sister was on a space station orbiting 4546B, and the main plot was about thwarting alterras meddling with the planet and keep the precursors and their tech from their knowledge, with robin as an actor on the surface doing stuff, and robins sister on the satellite using her admin job to keep alterra off of robins back. it was actually a pretty dope setup!

Another major difference is what pushed robin into the ocean, which was a huge avalanche destroying the base she was in. As in, robin was ACTUALLY stationed in the frozen zone working, when an avalanche destroys her base and forces her to go into the water to survive.

All of this was changed in the final cut to remove sam from the plot and having robin instead just crash land on 4546B to try to find her.

I think they also changed Maida's purpose a LOT because she was hinted at being more useful and it feels like, if the whole 'keeping alterra off your back' arc had remained, she would have had much more to do with it than she ended up having in the final cut. which was bossing you around to fetch a single thing and then not being relevant again

It just really feels like something went wrong and the story of the game is half baked at MOST (not to mention the design of the map but that's for another rant...) because like... when robin gets al-an in her head she is just so adamant on removing her and then SHE STAYS THAT WAY basically the whole game? al-an is nothing but a sweetheart to her and shes so fucking mean to him all the time i actually just didnt get it while i was playing. its so unnecessary, constantly cuts him off, shuts him up, etc etc. pretty much all the way until the end.

and then suddenly for the ending cutscene they are practically in love with zero warning. shes like oh my god i would follow you anywhere i would go anywhere with you. Bestie you hated his guts the whole 10 hour runtime of game what are you talking about................

It genuinely feels like something went wrong for sure.

And like, the alpha game pre-release was practically done!! The last major update they did to the early access was up until you create the body for al-an, which is literally the second to last thing you do for the story. You give him a body, and then immediately after that you can trigger the ending scene (at least in the final release, they might have had more planned after that in the original writing bu we will never know)

Which just made it so insanely jarring when you played the final release, which released over a year after that (i think), and the whole story arc was just. Gone. Replaced with what we got. I might be insane and the story got more and more replaced as early access went on, I am just going off of my memories of watching Jack's playthrough so take what I say with a grain of salt in terms of timeline accuracy, but the game was definitely changed beyond recognition from early access to final release as it went a complete and total rewrite more than halfway into production when they let go of their lead writer

Also that they hang out with Sapnap, Philza, and Techno. Was not expecting that, but yeah, Dream would want to reconnect, wouldn’t he? Even if it make Sam Uncomfortable and Punz Salty.

aaaaaaaaa I'm glad!!! The kids are sort of separate from the main au in that they're not really the main focus, they're just something that occasionally makes me happy to rotate in my mind. Healed, happy characters who are extremely neurodivergent, with their weird neurodivergent children, able to exist contently.

also, yeah!!! I realized a while back that I haven't really talked about the relationships and conflicts or Anything with real consistency on this tumblr. I'm used to interacting with people in the discord who've already had to listen to me so many times yell and rant that I've forgotten that I. might need to give context actually to other people who have showed up to a person on a soapbox spouting nonsense.

short answer: yeah, theres a Lot of complicated feelings, but by the time the children are in the picture its been like a decade and peace has been made with most things. No one has forgotten, of course. Shit was fucked. But events keep happening, characters keep developing, and Dream cradles his happy ending with the people he got to keep so very close to his chest.

So its like! Techno will support Dream through thick and thin and be civil with his partners, Punz and Sapnap had some rough moments but are buddies, and Sam will never talk to Dream's friends about anything deep, but after years of him genuinely trying to be a good partner, Techno and Sapnap are no longer five seconds away from trying to murder him.

Long answer: I'm trying to pull together some posts that will give detailed explanations of this entire thing. Itll take a bit, but its infinitely easier than the full fic I was trying and failing to write. I'm pulling this timeline from an old post so it might not be completely up-to-date even with my edits, but this is some skeleton stuff I can give that will make things easier for Understanding probably. I'm very sleepy. Here you go.

Timeline for My Own Damn Convenience:

Shady Dubcon Prison sex w/ SamDream

Gentle Recovery sex w/ Drunz

Dream decides he has major control issues and is going to fuck Sam to prove he isn't traumatized. Punz thinks this is a terrible decision.

AweSamDrunz sex, complete with a rulebook of things Sam isn't allowed to do (including giving or receiving kisses)

Quackity kidnaps Drunz similar to in the one cut lore thing, offers to let Punz go if they torture Dream (they stab Quackity instead)

Sam rescues them (without Q finding out) and then kidnaps them, where he ties up Punz and gets Dream kisses until they all eventually pass out (Dream gets mild medical attention)

Dream wakes up and unties Punz

SamDrunz has a talk and decides Sam is allowed kisses again

many kinks are discovered

Sam tries (and fails) to get a hobby

Sam builds +30 prisons/boxes/sex dungeons around the server, of various usefulness

Sapnap finds out about the Torture, sees the sex tape, assumes Dream can't consent to the relationship considering Sam was his warden and Sap thinks Punz betrayed him, and takes Dream to a cottage away from everyone to try to protect him. After Sapnap yells at SamPunz, Dream gently informed Sapnap he's going to continue the relationship, and they have an emotional reconciliation that leads to weeklyish meetings between Dreamnap where they can just sit and talk

Oh God The Egg Is Back (Sam locks up Punz and Dream in a bunker for a month out of terror, and doesnt tell them why because he knows it will stress Punz out and Dream could be an idiot and get himself Egged.
