One of the funniest things to me about Trigun Stampede and- subsuquently-Vash getting such a much larger fandom presence (especially here on the Tumblr's and AO3), is that Vash was always sort of already the quintessential Tumblr baby girl.
It's just that the 90s anime was so batshit insane and nearly incomprehensible (combine that with limited exposure of the show overall in "the west" other than Toonami) that barely anyone knew about it. Save for those who were able to catch episodes of 90s Trigun as well as the manga, I would say it's pretty fair to state that most people's impression of Vash would just be that of a bounty hunter/gunslinger anti-hero that's really good at shooting guns.
(Which is just fucking wild to think about in the first place because he's everything BUT that)
But now you have a massive audience (a good portion of which is queer-hi there!) just frothing at the mouth over any and all possible Vash content. Obviously, his redesign is a big factor in this, but character designs can really only go so far in terms of a feeding a fandom's fixation on a particular character.
It's been a lot of fun to watch people's reactions go from just going absolutely gaga over Vash's redesign (of which I have also taken part in haha) and his inherent dorky and idiotic cuteness, to being absolutely surprised/shocked that Vash is among one of the saddest characters to ever live.
I'm not gonna go into spoilers here, but I'll simply say this: Vash's life sucks ass. And it only keeps getting worse and worse and worse and worse and worse--
--AND YET he still keeps his baby girlness throughout all of Trigun (90s anime and manga).
I genuinely look forward to seeing the reactions of only anime fans the longer Trigun Stampede goes on. Y'all are in for a wild ride HA!

I said this in a whole reblog, but just copy-pasting to a separate post because I think it'll give some reading comprehension and reblogs don't show up in the search feature.. again, I'm reiterating what I said in another post.
Go check out @demidokuriya 's post for this; OP's post made me put this all down in like. 20 minutes. Mind went vroom vroom cuz HEY THEY'RE ONTO SOMETHING.

Look below at how, when Mineta told AFO to spare Tokoyami, AFO specifically went "..."
He remembers Jirou and thinks, The braying howls of the weak...
He was going to take Tokoyami's Quirk. He took Hawks'. But after Mineta pleaded with him, AFO just straight-up left and didn't take anyone else's Quirk.
AFO saw Yoichi in Mineta.
These scenes are near-identical to each other.
Mineta and Yoichi (at that time) are both much smaller than the normal person at their age
They're both hurt, yet dragged themselves up from the ground to throw something at AFO, to get his attention and make their voice
Both are considered weak, even if they have a Quirk (Mineta's Pop-Off and Yoichi's undeveloped Factor)
The fact that Yoichi got AFO's attention here by throwing a can at him, while Mineta got his attention by throwing a Pop-Off ball; and it stuck.
Mineta's call for his attention landed and actually stuck to AFO. This is unlike when Yoichi and his can bounced off, and AFO kicked him, not listening to him; AFO listened to Mineta and left Tokoyami alone, technically doing what Mineta wanted—to not hurt this person.
AFO just went on to hurt more people away from Mineta's [Yoichi's] eyes so the small weakling wouldn't see.
Yoichi and Mineta both cried to AFO to not hurt in his ways, when AFO was intent on stealing people's Quirks
AFO even stole Hawks' Quirk during this time.
He had time to steal Hawks' Quirk, and though he could've tossed him to the side, he let Hawks stand in his way.
He had the energy. Right after this event, he flew off and left the scene. But he didn't go for Tokoyami immediately.
And this let Mineta play his part, and remind AFO of Yoichi.
"A putrid, festering Quirk Factor."
That sounds like Yoichi, AFO.
".. such garbage."
Hey hey hey, what did Yoichi throw at him when they were kids?
A discarded can. Garbage.
This chapter (385) where AFO listens to Mineta is literally called [A Youthful Urge].
Mineta told AFO to take his Pop-Off (hurt him) instead. But last time, AFO hurt Yoichi by kicking him; this time, AFO not only listened to Mineta to not hurt Tokoyami, but didn't touch Mineta at all.
Even though this time, Mineta [Yoichi] offered to take that place of suffering.
Yoichi didn't do that back then. AFO just turned on little Yoichi anyway.
Yoichi through his whole existence is literally [the braying howls of the weak]. AFO acknowledges he's weak and idealistic, yet he still loves him.
Side note about this panel, I think it's interesting that in this vision, this was the first time we saw Yoichi's eyes: when he was being defiant, despite being pushed down by someone much stronger than him.
Really characteristic of him, honestly. Yoichi's soft-spoken and frail, but it's always reiterated that Yoichi had a powerful will against his stronger big brother.
Mineta at this moment reminded him too much of Yoichi, because the two scenes are near-identical to each other. Parallels, really.
Reiterating something from OP's post that I reblogged this from;

AFO didn't want to hurt Yoichi again.

#I have beef with the canon plot#and I've decided seeing as I've already changed the entire course of Jamie's life I can do the same to Keeley#so girlie is getting some real respect put on her shitty girl boss arc#and by that I mean I'm throwing the girl boss arc out the window#and turning it into a REAL fish out of water story like they tried and failed to do#by having her join Richmonds corporate marketing team#instead of giving a free lancer with no formal education and minimal business experience their own company out of the blue#because that was fucking stupid and extremely unrealistic!#the only client we know Keeley had was Richmond#she would've only been working in PR formally for like a year total#she had no ambition to run her own company until it was dropped in her lap#BUT YOU KNOW WHAT SHE COULD HAVE HAD INSTEAD?#been formally added to Richmonds marketing department and have to adjust to working to a corporate setting and struggle with THAT#have her realize that she doesn't HAVE the skills she needs to succeed or progress and work to learn them!#and then FROM THERE#she could have the own firm girl boss arc that I still hate#y'all forgot your baby steps and tried to make her run a marathon!

When;; when I grow up and end up making fictional stories for a living I don't wanna write some ordinary YA teen romance shiz and slap some like vampires or dragons in it and call it fantasy when 80% of it is just the female lead doing the do with the abusive rich brooding male lead I am going to write a book about a diverse group of time travellers randomly crashing into cishet white conservative male Collin's front lawn in the middle of the night while hurriedly discussing something about "the mines" and waking up poor Collin for him to see that a bunch of teenagers (?) Dressed in strange clothing are attempting to come up with solutions to heal the underground crystallized eels that came to life on an alien planet and then for the time travellers outside to realise that the man who owns the house they crashed into was listening and end up having to string poor Collin along in case the pearl prophecies of zone E3 was mentioning Collin in the post-it prophecy and for romance maybe Collin can discover he's ace along the way or something like I just made up this premise now and that's a billion times better than whatever Colleen Hoover could cook up I don't care if it doesn't instantly become booktok famous in the first 5 weeks or whatever I'm going to write whatever fantasy stuff I want where the stupid abusive rich prince gets thrown into the puddle of shadow snakes to rot for all eternity

definitely also the type to try and accommodate or match his texting style to yours as the months go by. kinda to match your energy. perhaps fails horribly at it, but it’s cute to see him try.
