Genuinely, one of the most bizarre but extremely Tumblr™ takes I've seen this past year was a person boldly declaring that a potential/theoretical age gap issue between two of their fave characters was suddenly too gross for them to keep shipping those two together anymore, so they decided to start shipping one of the characters with their canonical sibling instead.
I've been trying to do the math for months now and I still can't figure the logic out.

@tiredofsatansbullshit You understand my vision.
I have literally nothing to support this stupid idea, but I just feel deep in my soul that Damian would love the word "cringe."

My dad: Why doesn't Batman kill the Joker? I just feel like it would solve pretty much every problem he has.
Me: *trying to compress over a decade's worth of Batman lore and knowledge into something bite-sized that my very much not nerdy dad will be able to understand and accept all while my sister is staring at me knowingly and with smug sibling judgement*
Me: Bruce Wayne thinks that if he kills the Joker, he won't be able to stop and will just go full serial killer mode.
My dad: Ah ... so he's a pussy.
Me: I mean ... Jason Todd would probably think so ...

in honor of ace week id like to shoutout every asexual who first thought they were bi/pan because they looked at all the genders and felt no difference and zero is equal to zero so they said "huh. must be bisexual" and then shoved their sexuality back under the rug for 3-5 years

It's especially weird in the TimKon context if you consider the fact that Bruce likes Conner????????
I know it's pretty much a thing in the animated Young Justice show (not sure if it's the same in the comics since it's been a while that I read anything Young Justice or Superboy related), but Bruce is very upfront with Clark about how shitty he's acting towards Conner. Even pushing him to be something closer to a father figure or at least a mentor.
But outside of the whole TimKon shipping context ... Bruce is fine with Clark and Jon coming over to hangout in Gotham, too???? His best friend is an alien/meta and his son's best friend is also an alien/meta. One of his own adopted sons is a fucking meta. Or we all just conveniently forgetting that Duke Thomas exists again?
Pretty much all the of the Justice League are some form of meta/superhuman/god/whatever, too. It really doesn't make sense for Bruce to be anti-meta.
The only way I've seen this trope work (at least for me) in fics is when someone else is operating under the assumption that Bruce/Batman has a "no metas in Gotham" rule. But even then, it's really easy to make this trope hella weird/feel super out of character. Not impossible to pull off, just very easy to fumble.
It makes perfect sense for Bruce to be territorial about Gotham. That shit aligns with his goals/personality just fine, for all the reasons above. But to be weirdly shitty to people who can't control what or who they are in the first place?
Yeah, uh fuck no.
Wait. Is the “no metas in Gotham” fr a fanon thing?? I coulda sworn he said it in canon
i cant give u like a 100% answer bc theres an insane amount of bat comics and obviously i have not read all of them, but in all ive read thats included a meta showing up its never been a 'no metas in gotham' its just bruces special brand of 'this is my city and i dont trust people to come here and fuck with my system' which absolutely does not just include metas but also any vigilante from gotham he doesnt approve of. theres a bit where clark shows up during no mans land and bruce tells him to leave but its not about him being meta (which would be weird. can we acknowledge how fucked up that rule sounds) but about clark not understanding how gotham functions and not being able to handle it, and he comes back a few issues later and they work some shit out (theres a lot of there about bruce telling clark why he doesnt want superman in no mans land but thats a diff post, its never about him being a meta but specifically superman and how people would handle that, i think its kinda stupid but also introducing superman to no mans land permanently wouldve fucked with their story so whatever)
also re that post i was specifically thinking of how popular that trope is in t/mkon fics where kon isnt 'allowed' to visit or whatever bc of this rule which is ridiculous bc in canon kon has been in gotham and ran into bruce, like when he went looking for tim who quit robin for a sec and bruce didnt even tell him to leave, just told him to find tim himself by using his super hearing. the one more hostile time is from superboy 94 #85 where kons hanging around tim and ends up ignoring bruces orders with cass which gets them in serious trouble, and this does have more of a 'no metas allowed' vibe but its mostly bruce not wanting cass to hang around them (bruce is controlling over who he thinks cass should hang out at that time theyre not his greatest moments), and kon calls him out on it and and demands that he shares cass' punishment which bruce allows. meaning he probably ends up in gotham again off screen. bruce is shitty in this but i will say its a brief batman appearance in kons solo i wouldnt like, take his characterization from here bc its really not about bruce its about kon standing up against him
either way in t/mkon context i think its just annoying how people make it such a big deal and like it would be normal for bruce to. forbid tim to have his friends over. even if he doesnt want outsiders to work in gotham he cant tell them they cant be in the city come on thats ridiculous. and again just not true according to comics, bruce doesnt make kon leave bc hes a meta he makes him leave bc he and cass got themselves into some shit
anyway if you know where he said it do tell i would like to know but i still think its generally very exaggerated and also a weird messed up thing to just accept as a part of bruces rules, and i feel like theres a lot more instances where its not applied
