uh yeah so I wasn't planning on watching the episode until the weekend but my sister woke up super early and started like dancing or swinging from the ceiling fan or something and it woke me up so now I will bring back the guac episode text blocks :')
Hsmtmts: Season 3: Episode 1 Reaction
"And love is an open door. Did I just make that up? It's pretty good."
First new line of the show and I'm smiling like an idiot. So turns out I'm not actually over this show🥸
DAD JOKES ARE LIFE. I will be taking notes as EJ continues to speak.
big red's got work? all the time? why? can't he take two weeks off to enjoy the summer with friends? he's like 16? huh??
and Sebbie's gotta milk so this is how we explain their absence 🧍🏽‍♀️
oh so Ricky is with Lily after all? icky licky.
Carlos switching his glasses for sunglasses made me laugh a bit too much. maybe I should pull my sister down from the ceiling and go back to sleep...
wait wait wait
I'm not American and I haven't paid much attention to the details yet but like, Utah and California are close, but close enough that these kids' parents let them drive by themselves across states? ISNT CARLOS LIKE CANONICALLY 16? is this normal? I'm sorry
EJ being the son of Cash Caswell 4 and a half minutes into the season. why do rich people need more than 1 home? also yes Gina. she knew about the 2nd home so I'm assuming she's at least seen it (unless EJ just casually mentions his other houses but to me he seems like the kinda guy to forget he has more houses than the average person and just never talk about it) so yeah slay girlie pop marry rich! life is about the material things! go queen!
"you come to camp shallow lake and you leave and someone else" oh no. foreshadowing.
yeah I miss seb too.
the whole phone confiscation thing is awful to me. not because I'm addicted or anything, just that, that's my property and they're storing it in a bucket with other people's nasty phones in a dark room somewhere and idk what's happening to it? no thanks I'll leave it home.
oh I completely forgot the intro song thing *insert harsh whistle*
RICHIE EWE WEQEQ WS
this is funny though. don't mind my disgusted expression as I watch this scene, I'm rather enjoying seeing Ricky turn into a text to speech reader.
the more Lily talks the more I fear for Ricky's life.
Caribbean cruise? uhhh I live in the Caribbean 😥😥😥 imagine just chilling and you see miss Jenn running around buying souvenirs.
also. MR BOWEN? GIRL BENJAMIN MAZZARA IS RIGHT THERE. HE CONFESSED TO YOU AT THE END OF LAST SEASON. THIS WOMAN-
so it's confirmed that this is the same camp that Nini and EJ met at😃
I love Ashlyn. no context needed.
Why is she still with Howie again?
the non-wildcats in the corner. Are they credited as non-wildcats on IMDb?
as Ms Jenn is talking about sparks, remember when she and Mr Mazzara started a fire at the school and just...ran away? why don't we talk about this?
I wrote an alternate 2x12 fanfic where Ricky knows about the harness already so I genuinely thought they all knew already... anyways, yay Tim for bringing back this plotpoint!
Carlos being horrified by these random dudes throwing things is exactly what I expected from this season. that and Ricky coming to his senses but we can't always get what we want.
Jet is hot but we knew this already. anyways gimme the enemies to lovers with Ricky please, with a bunch of angst with happy ending, all that jazz. gimme the flavour🤌🏽🤌🏽
the way lily's body language is... reminds me of an episode of 911 where this girl murdered her boyfriend on valentine's day because he wanted to leave the date... she literally looked so much like how Lily looks rn... RUN RICHARD
isn't she like 14? like canon... I have a lot of questions for her parents mainly.
so he really just has big red's car this whole time? he's having his mv moment so I'll overlook it. we all need our main character moment at some point. but actually. it's a literal music video in the middle of the episode.
wait have we seen Kourtney and Carlos interactions yet? please someone tell me if we have or have not because this is my favourite. also let's discuss Kourtney's rainbow belt 😁
what kind of life changing 2 week camp is this? why are they all acting like all new people will be brainwashed and their lives will flip upside down by the time it's over
emo boy Jet meets emo boy Ricky they un-emotify together or something idk
"if you fall in no one will hear your screams" "don't go too far into the woods or you'll be gone for good" still not convinced this isn't a murder mystery season.
...
you telling me
Disney plus exists
in the universe of a show
on Disney plus
...
anyways so is this how EJ becomes director-
damn so he's really second choice for this too👩🏽‍🦯
RICKy? how does this even happen? don't they have to pay for this camp? how did he get so far in and portwell are the first people he sees? I'm so confused 😭

Jealous - Tierna Davidson X Reader
Prompt: Hi! I really love your writing so much. I was wondering if maybe you could write a fic where the reader and Tierna are best friends and R visits T while she’s with the national team. Maybe T gets jealous when the rest of the team or another player gives R attention?
Tierna aggressively slammed her cleats back into her bag, determinedly not looking to the other side of the field where Y/N was talking to some of the staff.
“You alright T?” Alyssa asked the defender, watching her throw her balled up socks into her bag too.
“Peachy,” she grumbled, slamming her bag down and zipping it up.
Tierna took a glance towards her best friend, watching as she made the staff all laugh at something she said, one of the trainers squeezing Y/N’s bicep. The defender rolled her eyes, standing and storming towards the group, trying to release her anger and force a smile on her face.
“Hey Tier,” Y/N shifted her whole attention to Tierna when she approached, bringing a genuine smile to the defender’s face.
“Hey Y/N, ready for lunch?”
“You bet!” Y/N smiled, turning to the group of staff, “great meeting you guys, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Tierna gave her a strange look as they began to walk to Y/N’s car. Tierna had introduced Y/N to the team the night before, inviting her to supper, with her charismatic personality she hit it off with everyone. Players and staff stealing majority of Y/N’s attention the rest of the night, inviting her to watch the practice the next day.
“So, where we going for lunch?” Rose pushed between the two of them as they walked through the parking lot, she gripped Y/N’s hand, dramatically swinging their arms, Y/N chuckled at the midfielder.
“What do you feel like Tier?” Y/N looked over to her friend.
“Anything you want Y/N,” Tierna pulled away from Rose slightly.
“I could go for some Chipotle,” Sonnett jogged up, throwing an arm around Y/N’s shoulder.
“Uhh sure,” Y/N creased her eyebrows, “Tierna had suggested some local place, but Chipotle works too. I didn’t realize you were coming with us.”
“Of course we are,” Lindsey pushed Sonnett out of the way, causing her to begin to walk backwards, both blondes smiling.
“Shot gun!” Rose let go of Y/N’s hand, pushing Sonnett out of the way and running towards the cars.
“You don’t even know what car is hers,” Tierna mumbled, Y/N smiling, watching the rest of the soccer players gently shove each other in attempt to figure out what car is Y/N’s.
“We’ll keep it a secret and you can have shotgun,” Y/N grinned, nudging her shoulder against her friend. Both laughing as the three pointed to different vehicles, looking back hoping for confirmation, running to different ones when there was no reaction.
The friends managed to get to the car before the trio did, Tierna slipping into the passenger seat.
“I called shotgun!” Rose pouted as she was pushed into the middle, sandwiched in by Horan and Sonnett, each smiling proudly.
As much as Tierna wanted to be alone with her friend, she couldn’t argue that being with Y/N was infectious and didn’t blame a single person for wanting to spend as much time with the woman as they could.
Tierna rolled her eyes, jaw clenching when Sonnett slid into the chair Y/N tried to pull out for her. Y/N giggled and slid into the chair next to her, tugging Tierna’s sleeve forcing her to sit next to her before anyone else could. The defender groaned when the restaurant door opened, and more player filed into the room.
For the entire meal, the players all monopolizing Y/N’s attention. Tierna became more irritated as the meal went on, her time was limited with her best friend, but since she had been introduced to the team, she hadn’t gotten any time with her friend. She had only introduced Y/N so she could have more time with her while still in camp.
Players all asked Y/N questions, drawing her into conversation, Y/N smoothly entertaining everyone, asking equal questions in return, giving them the chance to talk about themselves too.
Y/N tried to talk to Tierna in between conversations with players, sensing her growing irritation, stretching her arm out to rest on the back of the defenders chair, squeezing her shoulder.
“So, Y/L/N, how does the boyfriend feel about you hanging out with this motley crew for a few days?” Pinoe asked from the far end of the table.
“Ahh no boyfriend, so probably good?” Y/N chuckled.
“Alright, how does the girlfriend feel about it?” Ashlyn asked from next to her.
“Nope, no girlfriend either,” she shrugged, casting a shy glance to the defender next to her, none of the players noticing, all focused on the new information.
“You’re single?” Kelley clarified with a smirk, nudging a few of the younger players around her.
“As pringle,” Y/N grinned, laughing at her own joke, “single as a pringle, get it? It rhymes,” she clarified when she saw all the confused faces, awkwardly giggling to herself. Her smile grew when she finally heard Tierna let out a genuine laugh all meal.
“They’re trying to figure out if you’re gay and worth hitting on,” Tierna leaned over and whispered into Y/N’s ear, her smile dropping slightly.
“Oh,” Y/N blushed, biting her lip she fidgeted with her fingers.
“So whatcha say? Worth hitting on?” Kristie smirked from across the table, Sonnett leaning forward with her. Pinoe and Ashlyn watching intently from the end, everyone else listening for the answer.
“Oh, uhh, I guess?” Y/N looked shyly around the table, “I don’t really know?” she looked briefly to Tierna again, blush deepening.
“How do you not know?” Kristie leaned froward, waggling her eyebrows
“I just, uhh, do? People don’t really hit on me,” she shrugged again, hoping the conversation would be over soon.
“Alright guys, I think that’s enough, she’s not going to come back if you keep this up,” Christen stepped in, seeing how uncomfortable Y/N and Tierna were.
Tierna mouthed thank-you to the midfielder, Y/N smiling gratefully with a nod.
“T is oblivious that Y/N is single because she’s in love with her,” Tobin leaned over to Christen, whispering in her ear.
“Nope!” Ali giggled from the other side of Christen.
“And Y/N doesn’t see that Tierna is jealous of everyone giving her attention?” Ashlyn added from the across the table.
“Nope,” Pinoe said loudly, gaining the attention of the team, she just smiled and wiggled her fingers in a wave.
Conversation gradually resumed, several of the players trying to encourage flirty banter with Y/N now. Y/N oblivious to the flirting, continued to talk with everyone at the table.
Lunch came to a close, the veterans ushering the players out, reminding them of practice that afternoon practice in a couple hours.
Tierna was quiet the ride back to the hotel, staring blankly out the window in the back seat, Sonnett having won the race for shotgun on the way out.
Y/N glanced in the rear-view mirror while she drove, hoping to figure out what was wrong with her best friend. She bit her lip when Tierna let out a sigh, she didn’t have any idea why she was so upset; Tierna had been so excited to invite Y/N to camp when it was in her city.
“Are you coming to practice later?” Rose asked from the middle seat as they pulled into the hotel, the other two blondes waiting hopefully for the response.
“Oh uhh, not sure,” Y/N turned fully in her set once she parked, watching Tierna for some kind of reaction, “I don’t think so,” she followed up with the defender didn’t react.
Tierna looked quickly to Y/N, her eyes sad while they stared at each other.
“Ahh come on!” Lindsey shook Y/N shoulders over the driver seat.
“I really don’t want to overstay my welcome,” Y/N broke the staring contest, tapping her fingers ion the steering wheel.
Tierna didn’t know what else to say, but quietly got out of the back seat. The other soccer players following behind.
“Y/N is awesome T! Why haven’t you brought her around more?” Sonnett squeezed Tierna’s bicep as they walked through the hotel lobby, “any chance you could I could get her number? Or do you think she would take mine?” the blonde seemed a little nervous.
“Uhh I don’t know Son, maybe, I’ll talk to her,” she shrugged noncommittally.
“You rock T!” the blonde defender skipped ahead, giving a small fist pump.
“Tierna!”
Tierna turned quickly to the hotel entrance, Y/N walking towards her. She tilted her head to the side, confused, “Y/N?”
“Is everything alright Tier? Are you okay?” Y/N reached out, gripping Tierna’s hand, running her thumb along the knuckles. Eyes soft while she watched her best friend.
“Yea, of course,” Tierna squeezed her hand back, trying to give her a reassuring smile.
“You were so quiet at lunch. Do you want me to leave? Did I overstep with the team? Or you?” Y/N looked so worried.
“No, definitely not,” she shook her head, “Sonnett even just asked me for your number,” she motioned vaguely behind her to where the blonde had walked, “so yea, theres that, yours if you want it.”
“Oh uh, I’m not worried about that. I’m worried about you,” Y/N squeezed her hand again, trying to make eye contact with Tierna.
“I’m fine, really,” Tierna tried to reassure, pulling out her phone.
“What are you doing?” Y/N asked, eyebrows creasing at the sudden change.
“Getting you Sonnetts number,” she wouldn’t look up, focused on her phone.
“Damit Tierna, I don’t want anyones number, I want you!” Y/N pulled the phone from Tierna’s hand.
Tierna brought her eyes up to watch Y/N, waiting to see what else she would.
“I don’t care if the whole team asks me out, I just want to be with you. I didn’t plan to spend the week with your team, I planned to spend it with you,” Y/N tapped a finger to the center of Tierna’s chest.
“What?”
“She likes you,” Ali smiled as she walked past.
Tierna looked between the defender and her friend, Y/N nodding along, smiling.
“Tierna was pouting because she was jealous,” Christen added as she walked in behind as well.
“I wasn’t pouting,” Tierna stuttered out, blushing.
“But you were jealous?” Y/N asked hopefully.
Terna bit her lip and nodded along.
“I like you Tier, I have for a while, I was just too much of a wuss to ask you out,” Y/N blushed, looking away.
Y/N began to pull her hand away when Tierna started laughing at her. Tierna tightened her grip, stopping the movement, “me too Y/N. It killed me watching everyone fawn over you the last two day.”
Tierna let out a relieved sigh when Y/N stopped pulling away, both instead starting pull each other into a hug.
“What do we do now?” Tierna hesitated to ask as they pulled away.
“I don’t know, I think we start by not talking about it in the middle of hotel lobby,” Y/N giggled, both of them looking around to see most of the team watching, “but uhh, after that, I don’t know. I think we go on a date? Not much really has to change I don’t think.”
“No, I don’t think so,” Tierna agreed, nodding along, “how about dinner on my day off in a couple days? You can still hang around with the team if you want, but I want to be able to do this right,” her confidence growing the more she spoke.
“I want to do it right too,” Y/N smiled back, “now go break the news to Sonnett. I’ll see you later.”
The pair hugged one last time, both smiling wife before pulling away, Y/N leaving the hotel.

You know, a thought just popped into my head.
In the next episode, the chocolates that Gina thought were from Ricky will be brought up again and Nini is going to ask "Why did I never heard of this before?"
I know the first thing that comes up in our minds is the triangle drama, but what If it's what brings up the final and definite closure to Gina's feelings for Ricky?
Like, hear me out: it wouldn't make sense for Nini to be mad because Ricky didn't actually send the box, it was a misunderstanding on Gina's part, but maybe she'll get angry anyway. And then she'll storm off and Gina will follow her to explain everything. After a bit of conflict, Nini decides to hear what Gina has to say.
Gina will explain everything. Them getting closer, bonding over family issues, her catching feelings for him and everything else that comes afterwards. But then, as Nini gets angrier because Gina never told her anything (feeling betrayed or something, because even If it doesn't make much sense for me, it's an usual feeling in these kind of situations) and prepares herself to leave, Gina says the feelings are gone. She tells Nini that she would never get in-between them but it doesn't even matter anymore because she no longer feels anything, romantically speaking, towards the boy. She tells her how hurt she got and how much it took for her to get over him, but it happened.
Nini, emotional because of everything that was going on with Gina that she didn't know, hugs her and G immediately hugs her back.
I don't know really how the rest of the scene will go but after a while, Nini will ask Gina how she got over Ricky, both wanting to know more of her friend and trying to find a way for herself to get over him. Gina decides to tell her the truth (which was once blurry, as she hadn't realize it? but now she could see it clear as day) and that will be:
She surronded herself with people who care about her. People who want her around, who want to know how she is and want to listen to her talk about the most basic things and to the most serious issues she's going through with the same intensity of care. People who made her laugh, people who made her happy overall. Those people helped her heal and move on.
Obviously she's reffering to all of her friends, who might not have known what was happening but helped her nonetheless, but mainly the Caswells.
She goes on and on about how Ashlyn and EJ had become her best friends and how much she loved them. But Nini notices there's a different spark in Gina when she talks about EJ. Not that Gina doesn't love Ash, she very much does, but Nini realizes she might like EJ in a different way.
As the conversation is almost over, Nini asks about it. Gina blushes intensely and says "Why do you ask?", followed by a nervous chuckle. Nini smirks and instead of letting it go, confronts her.
Gina sighs, begging her not to tell anyone about it. After they make a pinky swear (because yes, I believe Gina does that), she tells her EJ may have warmed his way into her heart, in more ways than she was willing to admit a few days before, but that now she wanted to proudly scream from rooftops, even though she knew it was cliché.
Nini, biased by her own relationship with the boy before he truly changed and only wanting the best for her friend, warns her to be careful. Gina simply shakes her head, smiling, and tells her "I don't think that will be necessary, but thank you for caring."
Later, Nini realizes that really wouldn't be necessary, as she saw them interacting with a new perspective in mind. From the way EJ looked and talked to her, she could tell Gina was in no danger at all.
(This is all based on facts the show itself brought to us and also in the sneak peek that shows all the girls hugging, so Nini and Gina can't be fighting or else one of them wouldn't be included in said hug)

So we all headcanon EJ Caswell as a marvel fan right? But here I give you, EJ Caswell who uses the MCU/Marvel as a coping mechanism (plus the MCU/marvel is very good in my not so bias opinion 😁) to escape the constant pressure and stress of well, being a Caswell. Also because I'm a EJ caswell Stan and also a girl who's obsessed with Marvel, here are some of my more in detailed headcanons about EJ:
His favorite character is DEFINITELY Peter Parker because he admires how kind and nice Peter still can be after all the crap the world put on him (And EJ aspires to be at least a small percentage of what Peter is)
Tony Stark is also one of EJ's fav but he hates the old Tony (Iron Man 1) for obvious reasons (It reminds him too much of EJ 1.0 and his father)
HE HATES STEVE ROGERS ENDING IN ENDGAME. HATES IT. LOATHES IT. He spent months complaining and ranting to Ashlyn about how Marvel ruined Steve's arc and how it didn't make sense for Steve to go back to Peggy especially as Peggy had obviously moved on and married someone.
Ashlyn listens at first because she loves her cousin and that's what cousins (might as well as be siblings) do. But at some point while EJ is going on his a 100 rant about it she tells him to shut up about Endgame.
He's thankfully not one of the dudebros (even when he was EJ 1.0) because he was raised better than that (thank you Ashlyn and his uncle and aunt who loves him like their own)
Team Iron Man or Team Cap? EJ would glare at you and say, “Neither”.
No, I will not elaborate as I don't want to be canceled or yelled at by marvel stans (For the record, I'm team- [GUNSHOTS])
EJ Caswell let out the loudest shrill/ scream when they announced the Disney+ shows.
He also LOVES Wanda's character because who doesn't honestly and oh my god she is a total badass! Also the fact she struggles to be good due to her past and all her trauma but still, does her best and definitely doesn't deserve the hate she gets from some annoying fans.
He also loves Natasha Romanoff and wishes they gave her a movie/trilogy as she DESERVES it ://
He can't wait for Black Widow though (coming soon bffs)
Try to convince me EJ Caswell didn't SOB AND CRY when Natasha & Tony died. Oops sorry you can't. It's canon now he did.
He had a secret stan account for Marvel on his Instagram but because of how busy his senior year is, doesn't have time for it anymore
He has unhealthy attachments to characters in the MCU like Loki, Tony Stark, Gamora, Nebula and Peter Quill and it's definity not because he relates to having daddy issues
“Which character do you hate?”. No. Just. No. Don't ever ask EJ Caswell that because he would a hundred percent go on a longass rant of how all characters are unique and have their good qualities and flaws.
Whenever he's sad or feeling like crap he watches the first Avengers movie :)
Or probably Spider-Man Homecoming or Far From Home.
He doesn't know if he has a crush on Peter or MJ.
Probably both.
Ashlyn also makes it a rule for him to not recommend a marvel movie on movie night unless she lets him because “We've watched this movie 50 times EJ!”. “Okay and??!”.
Honestly, it's surprising how only Ashlyn knows about his obsession over Marvel.
Gina now knows too because she joins the two Caswells for movie night. Ashlyn relents and lets EJ choose the movie and OH boy, she swears EJ is as passionate about Avengers Infinity War as he had been about stealing the part of Troy and getting Nini back last year.
Gina likes it though and finds his nerding and geeking adorable.
One night, Ashlyn is out on a date with Big Red so it's just EJ and Gina tonight for a movie night (Them hanging out together alone has been increasing rather a lot lately) Gina agrees on watching Guardian of the galaxies volume 1 with him.
Gina asks if Nebula was a villian and EJ just.. pauses the movie. EJ proceeds to rant about how Nebula was just misunderstood and how she'll become a better character and that all she has done was only because Thanos made her become that, made her fight her sister, pressured her to become the 'best', and that her whole life, she only wanted her father to love and appreciate her.
Gina now realizes a part of the reason Nebula is one of EJ's favorites.
She doesn't bring it up though. Seeing the pure happiness radiating from EJ's face as he rants about the MCU (He somehow went from Nebula to talking about how Shuri was one of the coolest characters and how he wished Wakanda tech was real), she thinks he deserves to not be sad. They both do.

Our Bodies Were Printed As Blank Pages To Be Filled With The Ink Of Our Hearts (Tobin Heath x Reader)
Tumblr media
Anonymous Request:  Would you do a tobinxreader where the reader is a tattoo artist who is muscular and tall and tattooed, and Tobin and her friends come in with ash to get a new tattoo and the reader ends up convincing a shy Tobin to get a small tattoo on like her ribs or something and the whole time the reader has to restrain herself from hitting on her even though she still flirts and tobins friends make fun of both of them and the reader ends up asking Tobin out and they hit it off. Like ash is protective though because she knows the readers past but she gets over it lol?
Title based off of quote: “Our bodies were printed as blank pages to be filled with the ink of our hearts.” – Michael Biondi
The bell to your shop rings and you glance over your shoulder, your smile stretching into a grin.
“Well, if it isn’t my favorite customer.”
Ashlyn makes her way towards you, holding a hand out which you take, the two of you meeting in a hug. You give her back a pat as your chests meet.
“I’m not used to the place being so empty.” She says as she glances around and you shrug.
“I closed the place for today, figured you wouldn’t want fans breathing down your neck.” You say as you pat her shoulder, turning back to your equipment.
The bell to your shop again rings and you sigh.
“Sign says closed!” You call out, though a hand on your back silences you.
“They’re with me.”
“Ah, sorry my mistake.”
“Nah, you’re good.” You hear a familiar voice say and you turn around, eyes wide.
“You brought Megan Rapinoe, you never said you were bringing Megan Rapinoe.” You stare at Ashlyn wide eyed and Megan bows.
“At your service.”
You chuckle, eyes widening further when Ali Krieger, who you’d met before, as well as Christen Press and Tobin Heath make their way inside your eyes widening as you glance at Ashlyn who sends you a wink.
The goalie had known full well about your crush on Tobin Heath, the woman forced to hear you talk about the forward every time she’d come in, which judging by the tattoos on her arms and legs, was a LOT.
You clear your throat, cheeks flushed pink as you glance away.
“Ye-Yeah, c-come in.” You stammer, Ashlyn snickering as she pats your back.
Meanwhile with your back turned you completely miss the way Tobin is shamelessly ogling you, the woman swallowing hard.
It was impossible for her to ignore your physique, your muscular, tattooed arms on display thanks to the muscle tee you’re wearing, another tattoo visible crawling up from beneath your shirt and up your neck.
Tobin briefly imagines what the tattoo would look like in its entirely, but when you turn around, your eyes immediately finding hers, she glances away, cheeks flushed.
You clear your throat, clapping your hands together.
“So, let’s get started.”
                                                             ***
Ashlyn’s teammates chat as you get to work, your eyes narrowed as you focus intently on your work.
“Come on Tobes, Y/N is the best artist I know, you should get your tattoo here.” Megan gives her a nudge and Tobin huffs.
“I-I don’t know...” She mumbles and you smirk.
“Aww, come on. I promise I don’t bite.” You glance her way, sending her a wink and Tobin’s cheeks flush.
You chuckle, turning back to Ashlyn’s thigh, missing the way Christen gives her best friend a nudge.
“Come on Heath.” You tease, Ashlyn rolling her eyes.
She knew about your crush on Tobin, BUT she also knew you had a reputation, a reputation for hitting and quitting with women per se.
“Yeah, Y/N knows what she’s doing, she’s the only person Ashlyn will let near her with a tattoo gun.”
You smirk.
“Yeah, you wouldn’t cheat on me, would you Ash?” You ask, the goalie smirking.
“Never.”
                                                             ***
Ashlyn gingerly moves to her feet, the woman heading towards the bathroom as you move to your feet, bones cracking from being in the same position for so long.
You turn, smiling when you see Tobin inspecting a wall full of pictures, pictures you’d taken of past clients and their freshly done tattoos.
“See any you like?” You ask, moving to stand beside her and Tobin smiles shyly.
“I like all of them.” She shrugs and you chuckle.
“Definitely stroking my ego.” You wink, the forward blushing profusely.
Ashlyn’s eyes narrow when she sees the two of you, something Ali notices right away, the woman making her way towards her.
“What’s wrong?” She asks, her wife humming.
“Y/N.” She whispers and Ali’s brows furrow.
“Yeah...?”
“You know she has a reputation.”
Ali turns towards you with a frown.
“I doubt she’d do something like that to Tobin...” She says, noticing the way your cheeks flush when your fingertips accidently brush Tobin’s hand.
“I don’t know.” Ashlyn frowns, the woman’s eyes widening when you turn her way.
“Ready?” You ask and the goalie nods.
“Ready when you are.”
                                                             ***
Ashlyn watches intently as you run a cloth down her leg, the fresh tattoo prominent on her tanned skin.
You nod, lips splitting into a grin as you pick your head up, your eyes darting around Ashlyn’s face.
“Man, I thought this would look better.” You jest, Ashlyn’s eyes widening as she abruptly sits up, seeing, as per usual, a literal work of art on her leg.
“Dick.” She rolls her eyes, giving you a playful shove.
“That looks amazing.” Christen says in awe, glancing over her shoulder at Tobin, the woman scanning the masterpiece with a grin.
“It really does.”
You spin in your chair, grinning up at the forward.
“Convinced you to get a tat?” You ask, a brow arched and Tobin hums, shuffling from foot to foot.
You move to your feet with a grin.
“You don’t have to.” You smile, your hand brushing hers as you slip passed her.
You take a card from the holder on your desk, a smile stretching across your face.
“You can always call me if you change your mind.” You hold the card out to her, the woman taking it with a smile.
“I know you live here in Portland...” Your eyes widen, cheeks flushing pink as you rub the back of your neck.
“Th-That sounded creepy.” You chuckle nervously. “What I meant was I know you’re on the Portland Thorns, I just, f-f-figured.”
Tobin giggles, the tips of your ears burning at the sound.
“It’s okay, you’re right.” She smiles.
Ashlyn meanwhile is eyeing the two of you intently.
She’d NEVER seen you act this way in front of ANY woman, usually, you’d plaster on a charming smile and flirt in an attempt to woo the woman into giving you her number, which, was a usual success.
Who wouldn’t have a thing for a heavily tattooed, muscular woman with a charming grin who was INSANLEY talented?
Still, Ashlyn couldn’t help but be a bit protective over Tobin, she wasn’t about to let you use her like you had other women.
“Ahh come on Tobitto.”
Megan gives her a nudge.
“We have to leave tomorrow and I’m not leaving without seeing you get your first tattoo.” She pouts, the woman wanting to see Tobin get her first tattoo.
“Ohhh, a tattoo virgin.” You snicker, your tongue between your teeth.
Tobin hums, her eyes darting to the wall full of your past client’s tattoos before she fishes her phone out of her pocket.
“I may have looked at a few designs...” She shrugs and you move to stand beside her, the forward stiffening at the proximity between the two of you, the smell of your cologne clouding her senses.
You nod, one of your hands moving to rest on her back.
“That’s cute, I like it, from your brand, right?” You ask, Tobin turning to you with an arched brow.
“You know about re-inc?” Christen asks and you smirk, making your way behind the counter before coming back with something in the palm of your hand.
Tobin grins at the sight of the ReImaginer Signet Ring in the palm of your hand.
“I bought it the day you released it.” You smile, placing it down on the counter with a sigh. “I tried to buy someone’s painting, but someone out bid me.” You pout, Tobin’s cheeks flushing.
“You’re serious?” She asks and you nod.
“Unfortunately, I had to eat, so I couldn’t bid any higher.”
Tobin smiles, the woman’s eyes widening when Megan gives her a nudge.
“SO, TATTOO YAY OR NAY!?” She grins, waiting, semi patiently for Tobin’s answer.
Tobin glances your way, the charming smile on your face making her grin.
“Yay.”
Megan throws a fist in the air.
“YEAH!” Megan walks over, smacking your arm.
“LETS GO TO WORK.”
You laugh, nodding to the chair.
“Whenever you’re ready Heath.”
                                                             ***
The look on Tobin’s face when she sits in the chair makes you chuckle.
“Nervous?” You ask as you adjust the clean gloves on your hands, and Tobin shrugs, wiggling in the seat.
“A little.”
You place a hand on her forearm, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“It’ll be alright. I’ll be gentle.” You wink suggestively and Tobin’s cheeks flush.
“I know you needed time to think of where you wanted it, so-
You stop mid-sentence; your eyes widening when Tobin pulls her shirt over her head, revealing her sports bra clad physique.
You can’t help but peruse the woman’s newly exposed flesh, the woman’s abdominal muscles prominent.
You clear your throat, glancing away, the tips of your ears burning hot.
“Here.”
You give your head a shake before you turn back to her.
You duck down, the woman’s fingertips dragging along her bra line.
“That’s going to be a little tender.” You say, unconsciously running your fingertip along the underside of her sports bra.
Tobin meanwhile has stiffened, her eyes as wide as saucers and cheeks blood red.
Megan snickers, sending her friend a wink, while Christen covers her mouth to stifle her giggles.
Ashlyn in the meantime is staring your way, her eyes narrowed.
Ali gives her a nudge.
“She’s just doing her job.” She whispers in her wife’s ear and Ashlyn hums.
“She better be.”
You hum.
“Here would be best.” You tap her side, a bit below the edge of her sports bra.
You glance up at her with a smirk.
“I mean, you’d have to wear more revealing clothes to show it off...” You shrug. “Can’t say I’d mind, I mean...” Your eyes run down her front, the woman in the chair looking at you with wide eyes, her cheeks dusted pink.
Tobin glances away bashfully, rolling her eyes when she sees Megan fluttering her eye lashes.
You turn to Tobin as you pick up your tattoo gun.
“You ready?” You ask with a soft smile and Tobin inhales loudly, her eyes closing.
“Yep.”
                                                             ***
Much to your surprise, Tobin remains completely still, the woman seemingly unaffected by the needle.
“Color me surprised.” You say with a smile and Tobin’s brows arch.
“I didn’t expect you to be the unaffected by getting a tattoo type.”
Tobin snorts.
“Give me more credit than that.”
You chuckle, focusing all of your attention on your work.
Tobin’s eyes glaze over, the woman watching as your face hardens, your eyes narrowing as you focus on making even the smallest of tattoos perfect.
With you so focused on your work, Tobin gets the chance to do a little perusing of her own.
Tobin’s eyes dart intently around your face, the woman’s brown orbs running along your jawline, a jaw that’s currently clenched.
She takes in the smooth skin of your face, wondering what it would feel like to touch it, the thought making her cheeks flush red.
Tobin can’t help but smile when she realizes your tongue is poking out of the corner of your mouth, your dark Y/E/C orbs narrowed.
You smirk, taking your eyes off your task, your eyes locking with Tobin’s brown orbs.
Your lips split in a grin.
“Something on your mind?” You ask, your eyes darting around her face.
Tobin grins, biting her bottom lip between her teeth.
“Maybe.” She winks, blatantly flirting and your cheeks flush, your eyes darting from her brown orbs, to her lips and back.
“Maybe we can talk about what’s on your mind when we finish, hmmm?” You hum, her lips spitting in a grin.
“I think I like the sound of that.”
                                                             ***
Ashlyn’s brows arched as she watched the two of you interact, blatantly flirting.
She’d never seen you act the way you were currently acting with any woman other than Tobin, Tobin who couldn’t help but keep smiling at you when you weren’t looking, Tobin who seemed to be as interested in you as you were her.
Still, she couldn’t help but wonder if you were just going to use Tobin like you had the other women before.
Ashlyn hums when she sees the two of you simply staring at one another, your and Tobin’s cheeks dusted pink.
Maybe she was wrong about you.
                                                             ***
You pull back once you’re satisfied, turning to Tobin with a grin.
“What do you think?” You ask as you grab your mirror off the nearby desk.
Tobin grins when she sees the newest addition to her body, a tiny popsicle, a bite from the sweet treat, along with a drip from the permanently melting popsicle.
“That’s amazing!” Christen beams as she peeks over your shoulder, Megan jumping on Ashlyn’s back so she can see over everyone.
“Dude, that’s dope, I’m coming here for my tats from now on.”
Ali gives you a pat on the back.
“Y/N always does good work.”
“She’s the best.” Ashlyn adds.
You wipe your gloved hands across your shoulders, earning an eyeroll from the forward in the seat in front of you.
“I was going to write my number on there, but I thought that would be a bit much.” You shamelessly flirt and Tobin laughs, retrieving your card from her pocket.
“You already gave me it, remember?”
Your eyes widen, your cheeks dusted pink as you rub the back of your neck bashfully.
“So, I guess I kind of already did what I planned to do, huh?” You chuckle, your lips splitting into a grin.
Tobin blushes as well, glancing away from you, embarrassed.
“I guess you did.” She whispers softly, glancing at you out of the corner of her eye.
You clear your throat, focusing again on your work, applying the ointment and bandage before you move to your feet.
“Looks like were done.” You groan loudly, stretching.
Tobin moves to her feet, taking a step towards you.
Your eyes widen, the proximity between the two of you lesser than it had been the entire day.
“Does that mean you want me to use the card?” She asks, holding it between the two of you and you smirk, your eyes darting from her brown orbs to her lips and back.
“Do you want to use it?” You ask, hopefully, something about Tobin affected you in a way that no woman had in a long, long time, an affect you wanted to explore further.
Tobin grins.
“I do.”
You chuckle, grinning.
“Th-Th-That's...” You clear your throat, glancing away, cheeks flushed. “
“That’s, cool...”
You nod.
“Cool. Ye-Yeah, cool.”
Tobin laughs, taking a reluctant step back.
“Damn, she got game.” Megan whispers to Ashlyn, the woman nodding, a small smile playing on her lips at your nervousness, a nervousness you hadn’t seen before.
Christen gives her best friend a nudge, the woman’s cheeks flushing pink.
“You have to admit, they’re cute.” Ali whispers to her wife, the taller woman nodding.
“Yeah, they are.”
Still, she can’t help but feel somewhat reluctant at the thought of the two of you being together.
Tobin moves towards the counter.
“How much?”
You shake your head, your fingertips brushing her wrist as you slip behind the counter.
“It’s on the house, it’s not every day I get to have my way with a first timer.” You flirt, teasingly, the forward rolling her eyes with a giggle.
You point across the shop at Ashlyn.
“YOU, are still paying.” You snicker, the goalie rolling her eyes.
“Fineeeeee.” She pouts and you throw your head back with a laugh.
The others make their way towards the door, Tobin lingering behind with a shy smile.
“S-So, text you later?” She whispers, shuffling from foot to foot and you grin, leaning across the counter.
Tobin’s entire body is set aflame when you take her hand, giving it a light squeeze, your thumb running across the back of her hand.
“Ye-Yeah, I hope I hear from you, I’d uhhh...”
You clear your throat, swallowing hard.
“I’d really like to umm, get to know you better.”
Tobin surprises you by wrapping her fingers around yours, giving your hand a squeeze.
“I’d like to get to know you better too.” She says softly, the woman glancing down at your joined hands.
You give her hand a squeeze before reluctantly letting go, the two of you already missing the feel of your hands in one another's.
“So, see you later then?” You smile and she nods.
“Yeah, see you later.”
You watch with a shy smile as Tobin exits the shop, your lips splitting into a grin as you throw a fist in the air, excited to talk to the woman more.
You clear your throat, remembering that you aren’t alone in the shop, your cheeks blood red when you turn towards the others, Megan, Ali and Christen all grinning.
Christen gives you a wave as she follows Tobin out of the door..
“See you later, Y/N.”
“Later tater, I’m sure we’ll see each other soon.” Megan grins, smacking the counter and you chuckle, giving her a wave as she leaves the shop, Ali following close behind.
“I’m sure we’ll see each other again soon.” Ali grins and you chuckle.
“With how many tats Ashlyn gets, we’ll see each other in a week or two.” You laugh, the goalie’s wife giggling as she exits the shop, leaving the only two people in the shop being you and Ashlyn.
You turn to Ashlyn with a smile.
“I’m glad you like the finished product, just let me know when you want to get another done and my schedule will be cleared.” You grin, brows arching when you see the look on her face.
“Is something wrong...?” You ask, head cocked to the side and Ashlyn sighs.
“Look, if I’m being honest, I’m a little worried about you talking with Tobin.”
Your eyes narrow.
“What do you mean?” You ask, confused and Ashlyn clears her throat.
“Look, I know about your reputation...” She mumbles and you wince.
“O-O-Oh...” You fidget nervously.
Ashlyn frowns at the look on your face.
“Look, I don’t care if you talk to Tobin, but if you hurt her, I’ll kill you.”
You snort, the frown on your face turning into a small smile.
“I won’t...” You shrug, cheeks flushing pink. “There’s something different about her, I don’t know what it is.” You shrug, the flush on your cheeks darkening.
Ashlyn leans across the counter, giving you a playful nudge.
“There must be, I’ve never seen you like this.” She laughs and you roll your eyes.
“Stopppppp.”
Ashlyn laughs as she fishes in her short’s pocket for her wallet.
“Still, hurt her and I kill you.”
You nod.
“I wouldn’t expect anything less.”

Farm Boy Seb 🐄Masterpost

(Carlos) [squeals and hugs him]
(Seb) [mouthing] "Ye old farm??"
(Kourtney) "So what are you trying to figure out?"
(Seb)"Well, I told Carlos that I had a special present coming from my family's farm."
(Kourtney) "Ooh what is it?"
(Seb) [plays suspenseful music]
(Kourtney) "There is no special present coming from your farm, is there?"
(Seb) "This is terrible! I knew a handmade card would never be enough. What am I gonna do?"
(Kourtney) "Find something organic and just be you."
(Carlos) "Oh....dirt!"
(Seb) "I planted some organic seeds from my barn in there about an hour ago. I thought maybe we could have something that grows with us."
204 (6)
(Seb) "Oh no you guys! I missed an alert from my Farmer's Alman-app. Salt Lake just got half of foot in half and hour."
(Seb) "But if it's your phone, why do I have to be the one up here?"
(Kourtney) "Because you said you got struck by lightning that one time on your farm. So that makes you a better power conductor than me!"
(Seb) "Everyone! That was an alert from my Farmer's Alman-app! It says that the roads are clear and the sheep are in heat! - I should have read that last part in my head!"
205 (10)
(Ashlyn) "Why do I hear sheep but don't see sheep?"
(Seb) "Oh that's Jimmy. He has social anxiety."
(Kourtney) "Well I'm team Jimmy. I don't camp, I don't glamp, I don't even sleep without a silk pillow case."
(Ricky) "Listen, I'm sure Seb and Gina have a good reason for bringing us to his barn so late, on a school night."
(Seb) "I'm going to need some help in the barn with something involving tractors."
(Carlos) "Soo we're talking this Saturday?"
(Seb) "Mmm-hmm."
(Carlos) "Just come over and help in the barn and not to celebrate something else that you could figure out with a quick search of public records?"
(Carlos) "The ride over here was, uhm, exciting."
(Seb) "I only have my driver's license for farm equipment."
206 (0)
207 (0)
208 (0)
209 (4)
(Seb) "And I told him Milky White was nearing labor. Cows don't stop having babies just because school let out."
(Carlos) "Yet somehow you're having a cow about me not staying in Salt Like, so..."
210 (6)
(Seb) "But while I helped bring a new baby cow into the world, Carlos was in a world of his own. I know, I know, I am crying over spilled milk - no seriously, I spilled so much milk in the barn."
(Carlos) "I just don't understand what happened. I mean, Seb doesn't seem like the jealous type."
(E.J.) "What does he seem like?"
(Carlos) "I don't know? The farmer type?"

Knight in Shining Armor [Lindsey Horan x Reader]
Tumblr media
requested by anon: If you could do a lindsey x reader where lindsey is overprotective in a bar where reader gets hit on/ harassed? love all ur work!
A/N: thanks anon! and thanks for this request :)
warnings: violence, unwanted attention/harassment and language (slight mention of homophobic language)
The air was light at the dinner table, as the USWNT had just won their friendly against Japan. With Vlatko’s and the training staff’s permission, you all headed into downtown Seattle to have dinner at a little old-fashioned diner Allie had found.
All the women were chatting and laughing with each other, enjoying some relaxed time off. Having finished your own cheeseburger and chocolate milkshake, you peek over to your girlfriend’s plate and steal a fry.
“Hey!” Lindsey swats your hand.
“What?” You look at her innocently, as you take a bite of the fry.
She narrows her eyes at you, and the corner of her mouth quirks up. “You’re lucky I like you.”
“That I am.” You hold your chin up boastfully and then place a kiss her cheek. “Ooo, look! A jukebox” Your eyes widen, as you spot the flashing colorful lights. You squeal, grabbing your girlfriend’s hand. “C’mon, Linds, let’s go pick a song.”
The blonde chuckles, smiling fondly at your excitement. It never failed to amaze her how positive you always were, even over the smallest things. The two of you had started dating about a year ago, when you had been traded to the Thorns. You were the one to ask Lindsey out to dinner, as the midfielder had been fairly nervous and flustered whenever she was around you. From that point on, you and Lindsey were inseparable and completely smitten with each other.
Approaching the jukebox, you feel the excitement bubbling within you. As you were scrolling through the song options, sticking your tongue out in concentration, your girlfriend couldn’t help but admire your beauty, the light from the music box making your face glow and the smile on your face melting Lindsey’s heart.
“What do you think I should play?” You turn to ask the other woman.
“Whatever you want, (Y/N).” Lindsey smiles at you, moving to lean against the machine.
You go to find one of your favorite songs, when you feel a stranger’s presence next to you.
“Hey.” The man slurs, and you can tell he’s slightly drunk, smelling the alcohol in his breath.
“Um, hello.” You briefly look at him and give a tight smile, not wanting to be rude.
“What’s a gorgeous girl like you doing here all by yourself.”
“I’m actually here with a group of people.” You nod your head over to the table where your teammates sat.
“Well, I was wondering,” he leers, leaning his arm above you against the jukebox, “if you wanted to go out sometime because you’re like super hot.”
Before you could respond, Lindsey speaks up from behind you, moving closer to your body and placing her hand on your shoulder. “Dude, back off. I’m her girlfriend.”
The guy looks shocked for a second until he scans observes Lindsey, and a smirks finds its way back onto his face. “Darlin, there’s not reason for you to get jealous. There’s enough of me to go around. You can even join.”
You feel like barfing at his words and sink back into your girlfriend’s body, trying to put some distance between you and him.
“I’m not jealous. I’m annoyed that you’re hitting on my girlfriend.” Lindsey clarifies, disgust written all over her face.
“Well, she didn’t even answer my question, so how do you know she’s not interested?” The man smirks, as he sips his drink.
“I’m definitely not interested.” You emphasize, hoping he’ll take a hint.
Apparently your rejection made him angry because his smile instantly disappears, replaced by a scowl. “Bitch.” He spits at you. “You’d be lucky to get with me.”
Having enough of this guy, Lindsey steps in front of you, slightly nudging you behind her. “Dude, you seriously need to leave us alone.” By now, many of your teammates had noticed the commotion and gathered around you.
“Aww, you need to have your little d*ke girlfriend protect you.” He mocks. “Whatever, you’re not even that pretty. Prude.”
Without hesitation, Lindsey punches him right in the nose.
“Ow!” The guy howls, grabbing his bleeding face. “You bitch!”
Immediately, your teammates step in separating your girlfriend and the stranger, Ashlyn and Tobin having to hold Lindsey back to contain her anger. You see Alyssa, Julie, and Kelley telling off the guy, adding some of their own choice words in as well.
“Well, I think we should head back to the hotel.” Becky decides, not leaving any room for discussion, as the rest of the group nod their heads in agreement.
On the walk back to the hotel, Lindsey tries to talk to you, but you make an effort to avoid her, moving to walk with Abby and Sam instead. Your girlfriend can’t help but pout, sensing that you’re upset with her.
Noticing Lindsey’s demeanor, Tobin throws her arm around the blonde’s shoulder. “C’mon, Rocky. I’m sure (Y/N) will tend to your wounds when we get back.” The older forward teases, earning an eye roll from Lindsey.
As the team arrives at the hotel, you all say goodnight to each other, exchanging hugs, Christen and Alex coddling a little extra over you, before dispersing, heading back to your rooms.
The elevator ride is tense, an uncomfortable silence hanging over your head, as neither you or Lindsey want to say anything. As you enter your shared hotel room, you speak your first words to your girlfriend since you’d left the restaurant.
“Go sit on the bed. I’ll get some stuff to clean your hand.”
Not wanting to upset you further, Lindsey just nods and sits at the foot of the bed. After a couple moments, you come out of the bathroom with a wet rag and some bandages. You plop down in the chair and roll it over to the bed, so you’re sitting in front of Lindsey. Taking her hand in yours, you begin to clean her split knuckles, and Lindsey nervously observes you, looking for any signs of anger.
She decides to tread the waters carefully and breaks the silence. “I’m sorry, (Y/N).”
You pause your actions, but don’t look up at her. Remaining quiet, you resume cleaning her wounds, and Lindsey takes that as a sign to continue.
“I’m sorry for punching that douchebag, but he deserved it!” The blonde exclaims, waving her non-injured hand. “And I know you don’t like violence, but I just couldn’t help myself. I couldn’t sit back and listen to him hit on you and disrespect you like that. I care too much about you to just not do anything about it.” She softly adds the last part, gauging your reaction.
You finish loosely wrapping her hand, your painful silence killing Lindsey.
“I’m not mad that you punched him.” You plainly state, causing your girlfriend to let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding.
“You’re not?”
You shake your head. “That bastard deserved it.”
That elicits a light-heart chuckle from the blonde, who then furrows her brows. “Then why are you upset?”
You lightly lift up her wounded hand. “Because of this, Linds. You acted recklessly, without a second thought and injured yourself. And if he wasn’t a completely drunken idiot, he could’ve punched you back or started an entire fight, and who knows what would’ve happened? You could be a whole lot worse and have gotten seriously injured. You shouldn’t be putting yourself in harms way to protect me.” You admonish, looking down at the faintly blood stained bandage, gently rubbing over it.
“(Y/N), will you look at me?”
You lift your head to meet Lindsey’s orbs.
“(Y/N/N),” she rests her other hand on top of yours, “I will always protect you, no matter what, because I care for you and I love you. Got it?”
You nod, softly giving her a watery smile. “My own knight in shining armor.” Bringing her bandaged hand up to your lips, you kiss her palm. “I love you, Linds.”
Lindsey brings you in for a sweet kiss, before whispering against your lips, “I love you, too, (Y/N). I’ll always be your knight, for as long as you need me.”

“are you sure you want to wear that to the dance?” camilla asked you as you looked at yourself in the bathroom mirror. you sighed. if you were honest, you hated this dress. it was frilly and a weird tan color, but your mom gave it to you to wear when you refused to go shopping. it used to be hers, and you could tell it was old.
“i don’t have anything else.”
she paused, considering. “you can borrow one of mine.”
“really?” you asked, turning to face her. “you never let me borrow your clothes unless you get something in return.”
“hm. i don’t know,” she said. “i just want to make sure you have a good time.”
you looked at her with a soft expression on your face. “thank you. where’s the dress?”
she disappeared into her room for a second and came back out, holding a (y/f/c) dress. it went mid-thigh and was a loose, flowy style. you smiled.
“it’s beautiful.”
“it’s one of my favorites,” camilla handed you the dress. “be careful with it.”
“i will,” you paused. “thank you, cam.”
she hummed and looked at it for a minute. “(y/n), is it true? did you really meet ricky in california?”
you sighed and set the dress on the counter, turning to face your sister. “yeah. yeah, we hung out a few times. he... kissed me.”
“you’re kidding!” she said. “then why did he say you never met?”
“he was worried about his career, i guess. was scared that being seen with me would make him lose a job in a tv show. so he broke things off.”
camilla looked at you, anger in her eyes. “that asshole!”
you laughed weakly. “yeah, thank you. you can still like his music and stuff i’m not... that bothered.”
“no. even if you aren’t bothered, i am. that’s awful. i’m really sorry,” she paused. “put the dress on then come to my room. i’ll do your hair.”
“okay.”
Tumblr media
after about an hour, you were ready for the dance.
camilla did your hair pretty basically, with just giving it soft curls and pinning part of it back. she helped you do some basic makeup as well and you were actually excited for the dance for the first time. you slipped on a pair of flats and made your way downstairs.
“(y/n)!” your mom exclaimed as you approached her in the kitchen. “you look amazing!”
“thank you mom,” you said.
she insisted on a bunch of pictures in different places around the house as well as outside. you weren’t going to the dance with a guy or with any friends, so you took pictures by yourself or with camilla, which you didn’t mind. you send a picture of you to ashlyn, and she sent you an array of heart emojis. you laughed and slipped your phone into your dress pocket (another pro of this dress; it had pockets).
although you were excited for the dance, you were nervous. at this point, anyone you saw wanted to know about the ricky situation, and you didn’t want to talk about it. especially since now you were seen as a crazy fan who followed him around during your whole family vacation. you decided today though, you were going to ignore it.
as you were walking towards the entrance to your school, your phone started buzzing. you pulled it out and saw ashlyn was facetiming you.
“hey girl!” you said. she grinned through the phone.
“hey! you’re looking so good!” you laughed.
“wait, where are you?” you asked, noticing that ashlyn’s background didn’t look like her house. she grinned.
“keep walking.”
you raised your eyebrows and walked faster into the school. you opened the door and were met with ashlyn standing inside, grinning at you. she ended the facetime and you rushed forward to hug her.
“ashlyn! what are you doing here?!” you asked excitedly. she laughed and hugged you back tightly.
“i still have a couple days before i’m back at school, and i figured you’d want someone to dance with, right?”
“absolutely!” you exclaimed. “i’m so happy you’re here.”
“me too,” she said. she glanced at her phone quickly. “now c’mon! i’ve been waiting a while and the dj has played some good songs.”
you laughed and she pulled you into the school gym. there were a ton of people in there, dancing, laughing, talking, etc. chaperones were standing around awkwardly, watching the kids uncomfortably. ashlyn pulled you directly into the middle of the dance floor and wasted no time starting to dance. she was always more outgoing when it came to potentially embarrassing yourself in front of people. usually you held back a bit, but tonight, you didn’t give a shit about what people thought about you, and you danced your heart out with your cousin.
a few songs later, the dj walked away from his booth and the lights dimmed. people whispered in confusion but everyone gasped as someone walked onto the stage. you stood on your toes to try to figure out who it was, only to be met by ricky standing there, looking in the crowd.
“(y/n) (y/l/n)?” he said into the microphone. everyone cleared a path and ashlyn pushed you into the middle of it. your eyes met ricky’s and he beamed at you. “hi. i guess there’s a few things i forgot to say in california.”
the music started, and a song you didn’t recognize began to play. ricky kept his eyes on you as he began to sing.
common sense tells me kiss the girl goodbye
common sense tells me leave it all behind
common sense says the girl's not worth my time
but common sense ain't common when you come to mind
the song was slow and ricky sung softly. you noticed how his facial expressions were similar to how they were when you saw him singing at his parents party. his expression was soft and he was focused— but this time he was focused on more than just the music; he was focused on you.
common sense told me she was not worthwhile
common sense said don't go the extra mile
common sense said go back and reconcile
but common sense forgot about her smile
ricky seemed to suddenly be shy as he looked down at his feet and sang. you didn’t take your eyes off him.
second chances are thought of to be weak
second chances in volumes do they speak
second chances aren't given usually
but a second chance is all i really need
he looked back in your eyes and sang almost like he was silently begging during the verse. he stepped off of the stage and slowly started walking towards you.
i think i love you
i want to love you
please let me love you
i wish to show you how to love
he approached you and grabbed your hand with his free one. your heart was racing and you considered pulling away from him, but you couldn’t bring yourself to.
common sense tells me kiss the girl goodbye
common sense tells me leave it all behind
common sense says the girl's not worth my time
but common sense ain't common when you come to mind
no, common sense ain't common when you come to mind
the song ended and big red slipped past and grabbed the microphone from ricky, sending you a quick smile. you stood there, not looking away from ricky. he didn’t look away from you either.
“hey,” he said softly.
“hi.”
“i... i wrote you that song. i wanted to apologize for what i did i was— such an idiot.”
you didn’t respond and his face dropped a bit. “i quit the tv show.”
“you did?” you asked. he nodded.
“you were right. it wasn’t worth it, i don’t want that. i... i want you.”
your eyes widened and the corners of his mouth lifted up slightly. you swallowed hesitantly.
“ricky,” you said. “i want to believe you. you have no idea how much i want to believe you it’s just... how am i to know that this won’t happen again? that your career won’t come first?”
he looked at you, his expression soft. “(y/n), i haven’t stopped thinking about you since the second we met. and... i haven’t stopped kicking myself about how i acted at the beach. i’m telling you— right here—” he motions to the full gym of students watching you. “in front of everyone, that you’re all that matters to me. and i will do nothing but show you that if you just let me.”
you grinned and shook your head. “you are the cheesiest person i have ever met.”
ricky’s grin matched yours. “yeah well, is that all that bad?”
you laughed and before you said anything, he wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you to him, then he pressed your lips together. you smiled into the kiss and wrapped your arms around his neck. the people in the gym cheered (which— if you were being honest— made you uncomfortable, but you didn’t care. all that mattered in that moment was ricky. he was all you could focus on).
when you pulled apart the music started again and everyones attention went away from you and ricky as they started to dance. ricky rested his forehead against yours similarly to how he did the day at the beach. you grinned at each other before he pulled away and held his hand out to you.
“may i have this dance, m’lady?” he asked in a fake, proper voice. you giggled and slipped your hand into his.
“oh of course, good sir,” you wrapped your arms around his neck and he placed his hands on your waist and you swayed to the music.
“so, after this, wanna go find a diner? eat somewhere and talk?”
you nodded. “first date at a trashy diner? sign me up.”
he laughed. “wouldn’t you consider this our second date? that day at the pier was pretty fun.”
“sure it was, until you ruined it,” you teased and he laughed, looking up.
“oh, i will never forgive myself for that day.”
“good thing i will forgive you.”
Tumblr media
you left the dance with ashlyn and big red and the four of you headed to a random 24 hour diner down the street from your school. but, you sat at seperate tables, which gave you and ricky a chance to catch up, for real this time.
“so,” you said as you stole a fry from ricky’s plate. “how’d you plan this whole thing out?”
“ashlyn and big red helped me. i knew i had to come make things right and i wanted to surprise you at the dance, but it was ashlyn’s idea for me to write the song.”
“beautiful song,” you commented and he laughed affectionately.
“thank you. wrote it about this girl i really like,” he said seriously, his eyes searching your face for a reaction. you grinned.
“oh yeah?” you asked and he nodded. “well that’s convenient, because a guy i really like sang it for me.”
you grinned at each other for a few moments before you spoke up again. “so how long are you in town for?”
“few weeks. that is, if you want me here.”
“of course i want you here,” you laughed.
“i guess it’s a matter of what happens when i leave, huh,” ricky said, looking down at his plate. you frowned.
“yeah. can i trust that you won’t find another girl to cheat on me with back in california?” he looked up at you, an amused look on his face.
“cheat on you? wouldn’t we have to be officially dating for me to cheat on you?” you rolled your eyes and rested your head on your hand.
“are you really going to make me ask you?”
ricky chucked and wiped his hands off on a napkin, before grabbing your hand across the table. “(y/n) (y/l/n).”
“yees?” you asked innocently.
“will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?”
you laughed. “i thought you’d never ask.”
he leaned across the table and kissed you quickly. when you pulled back, you rubbed your thumb on his cheek.
“hm. since you’re in town and we’re officially dating, guess it’s time for you to meet my family, huh?”

The Field Trip Thoughts
Because there is a lot of them
Spoilers for HSMTMS Below
First off, Gina and Ej are adorable. I don’t ship Portwell romantically but I adore their friendship
I’m sorry Ej is the president of the AV club?!?!?! He’s been a part of the club for, what, like two weeks? Go big or go home I guess
I love Nini’s outfit
RICKY USE YOUR EYES!!!
i see that a common theme this season is Ricky not being able to see what is right in front of him.
I know Ricky is going through stuff. I’m a firm supporter of the Ricky needs therapy campaign.
Gp better be Ej’s contact name for Gina or I will riot
“Are you announcing the fall musical, I vote Dear Evan Hansen.”
two evans and possibly a third #joeserafiniforevan
YA KOURT IS STILL ON COSTUME CREW WE STAN AN ACTOR/TECHIE
“SPEECH SPEECH”
i love dara’s laugh
“Can you not keep your phone on silent in rehearsal like everyone else?” “’Sorry, everyone’, is what Carlos would say if he were more like me.”
I smell tension. They seem kind of tense this episode. I don’t know where it came from, there wasn’t really any build up bc thats how seblos rolls. Like they were completely fine last episode. Maybe Seb is just fed up or something happened off screen?
im just happy we’re getting seblos content lmao
“Terrible line”
“Oh my god is your phone hungry i don’t understand.”
In the “previously on HSMTMTS” segment in episode 5, Carlos mentioned he was slightly scared to be on stage. he seems so effing stressed and irritated this episode more than usual. Carlos for the love of god talk to your boyfriend and eat a snickers.
I think the North High stuff has gone to his head.
GAHH SEB’S COSTUME
okay carlos honey i love you but how can do you know north high stole your beast mask because a bit of fur is sticking out of a trunk. they have fur too.
guys look around the room first it could have fallen but nOoOo you assume they committed a felony right off the back.
“Let it go” the kids of east high did not in fact let it go.
I AM DIANE AND I LOVE NORTH HIGH

RICHARD BOWEN YOU DO NOT SCREAM YOUR SCHOOL NAME IN THE ENEMY SCHOOL WTF
Carlos looks so done with everyone I feel you man, i feel you
north high looks more like pottery barn than an actual high school. Seriously, who or what is funding this place?
Miss Jenn: tells the kids to let it go and not go steal the mask.
Also Miss Jenn: goes to north high
GET AWAY FROM GINA YOU MFER
ej is wearing the gayest shirt in history how does that north high boy believe they’re dating
nice save, ej.
the faking dating was one of the best scenes of the episode.
AWWW EJ
im so happy gina is finally getting the attention she deserves. like i said earlier, i dont ship portwell but gina needs friends and ashlyn and ej are some pretty good friends. they have her back and that’s what i think gina needs.
LILY IS EVIL BUT SHE LOOKS GOOD DOING IT
kourtney darling lower your voice youre on a heist not shopping for shoes
nini you have done nothing for this heist why are you here?
for the record, i don’t hate nini, but shes probably one of my least favorite characters. i liked her in episode 6 and season 1 tho.
the main kids all share one braincell they didn’t check the box where they originally thought the mask was.
“I want one”
Wow, you guys got caught. Between the Wildcats, loud voices, and large crew I would have never guessed.
SEB’S FACE WHEN NORTH FINDS THEM IM DYING.
The aggressiveness of Antoine’s french is killing me.
zacky roy what are you doing?
LILY AND THE FLASHLIGHT
carlos getting fired up
“fugly” dramatic gasp
“Oh yeah, what if we bop to the top” I HAVE WAITED 17 EPISODES FOR MEAN/AGGRESSIVE/ANGRY SEB IT WAS WORTH IT
GO OFFF SEBBY
carlos’ “honey calm tf down” face
“honey no” “honey yes”
East High is confused by a dance off (so am i) but then preform a musical number to save their teacher from getting fired complete with original a original song and dance
“That’s weird even for me”
LILY DONT YOU EFFING DARE INSULT ASHLYN I WILL KILL YOU MYSELF
“She’s better than this” Next scene is Miss. Jenn dancing with the enemy
Around you is my least favorite song of the season. That being said, the singing is good
RICKY LOOK THE OTHER WAY
“Tom Holland on stilts”
“That man is ridiculous and you should dump him and date me” ANTOINE THAT IS A HORRIBLE THING TO SAY BUT ITS SO FUNNY
i love antoine
dj antoine in the house!
“I knew you all didn’t like the Mob Song”
“What kind of budget” THANK YOU KOURTNEY
nini straight up said “see ya”
how is no one questioning why someone is in costume? didn’t lily say no costumes?

YAY KOURTNEY
ANDREW BARTH FELDMAN EVERYONE
seb really said “go get em babe”
CARLOS POP OFF
i love how frankie was singing in his lower range or it was just autotune
ASHLYN I LOVE YOU YASSSSS
nice save, antoine. do i ship? idk, but it was cute.
mob song was good. the solos were pretty good as well as the dancing but the background track...not my style. it was enjoyable tho.
SALTY BIG RED
“No, Nini’s Rose Song.”
im so glad they addressed why the rose song cant be used. its a really good song and olivia sings it perfectly but it doesn’t make sense for the plot and you cant alter text.
“Ej you had one job”
nini really likes leaving
Zack you are an adult it is high school theater not the World Series
“it’s just a song, ricky” I think you kinda, ya know wasn’t “just a song”. Out of the Old wasn’t “just a song”. All I want wasn’t “just a song”. How is Rose Song any different?
gina and ej goofing off is awesome
seb and carlos being the theater dads watching over their children
ope- howie turn your phone off
carlos and seb really said “bye, have fun” THEY BOLTED
ummm...yeah
you can see how much howie regretted in that moment
“I’m Nina” ooo interesting is she going to go by Nina now?
Overall, I really enjoyed the episode. The stakes are high and I’m glad the other relationships are getting screen time. The balance was good this week, I wish it was like this every week. My only issue is how underdeveloped the plot was this episode, but beside that it was pretty good.

Take It Back (Chapter 32)
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Female Reader
Summary:  About five years ago, a one night stand with Y/N tore Bucky’s life apart. It was also the night before his wedding. Now he’s married to her sister and she needs a place to stay.
Take It Back Full Masterpage |
Tumblr media
…] “How do I know for sure that it’s not you that are all those things? Because let me tell you something, I know the woman I fell in love with, I know the girl I met and she is none of those things you accuse her of, so stop trying to force it down my throat.”
“You think I’m fooling you into making her think she’s the bad one? You think I’m lying about her being manipulative?”
“Y/N, you have done nothing but talk shit about her.”
“Fine!”
It comes out in a roar as you snap back around and scream it in his face.
Bucky recoils slightly at your outburst.
Your face is red, your eyes flushed.
“Fine, Barnes, you want me to stop talking shit about her and stop trying to protect you, I will!”  You tilt your head up higher, a finger in his chest, “But just know that if she hurts you, it’s your own fault […]”
___
“James Barnes is in no way taking any drugs. His reason for being at Presbyterian Hospital remains private, but it is not drug-related.” A reliable source tells Washington Post.
Rumors of James Barnes’ loyalty towards his family remain under tough waters and constant watch as afflicted co-counters doubt this reliability and responsibility as new CEO. Many even say that his wife, Ashlyn Barnes, would be a better fit for the job.
- The Huffington Post
James Barnes's loyalty appears to be rocky when it comes to his marriage, just as much as his loyalty to his company. Doubts are starting to arise after hospital visit when Barnes was later spotted leaving his New York Penthouse with a mysterious woman.

James Barnes, a cheater? Let's hope he’s a better businessman than he is a husband.
- Amateur News Blog
___
New York City
The flashes come from left and right, the shouts and screams making his head swirl.
The gorgeous brunette man, his best friend, has a hand on his lower back as he helps guide him inside the tall, glass tower.
Bucky does as he was told in the car moments before.
He keeps his head tilted down, avoiding every question and microphone thrown his way. They are to brace the accusations and crude comments as they race towards the glass doors.
“Mr. Rogers, as Barnes’ attorney, don’t you think it’s a bit biased to be working this case, considering you’re his best friend of fifteen years?”
“James! Did you really cheat on Miss. Ashlyn? James!”
“James, are you losing Barnes’ Enterprises? What has been decided among the case after it was discovered that your father tried to take it from you?”
“What about Stark’s company, threatening to buy you out for insubordination? What don’t the people know?”
“Mr. Barnes why-“
The voices are drawn out and become distant as both men finally step into the lobby, a heavy breath escaping Bucky’s lungs.
He’s thankful that none of the news reporters are allowed inside because this - he closes his eyes and takes in the soothing silence - was a lot better.
Still, his mind is not clear enough. Not as clear as he would have hoped.
Not even as they take the elevator up to the newsroom. His best friend can tell he’s nervous, and for what, he’s not so sure.
Bucky had nothing to hide.
He isn’t mentally present, either, when he greets the news crew, nor when they clip the mic onto the collar of his beautiful Armani suit.
“5…4…3…2…”
He turns on like a machine when the camera claims “LIVE” above the bright light that is shining directly into his face, making him momentarily blinded.
Now, he knows, everyone is watching.
He sees the news reporter come up on the dual-screen that is installed next to the tripod, and the older news reporter announces Bucky’s presence followed by a simple question.
One that could potentially change everything.
“We want to thank you for coming on the show tonight. We wanted to start by asking you one question: Is Ashlyn Barnes still in any way affiliated with Barnes’ Enterprises?”
Bucky swallowed thickly, the bright light of the recording camera making his head swirl.
five days earlier...
The three of them sat on the hotel bed.
Steve’s declaration about the will being fake had an effect on Bucky that no one was expecting. They were expecting a celebration of some sort, maybe even a smile.
Instead, all Bucky could do was take your hand in his and cave into himself as he tried not to cry again that night.
You share an uncertain glance with Steve before tightening your hand around Bucky’s.
He looks down at his lap, where your hands are conjoined, and he nods.
“Yeah, no, that’s great.” He says quietly, he looks up at Steve, “That’s great.” He throws him a small smile that doesn’t reach his eyes.
“Buck, there’s more I wanted to tell you.” Steve says, this time also looking at you.
You squint your eyes together unexpectedly. He hadn’t told you that.
“More?” You ask.
Bucky takes a deep breath and runs a hand down his face, whimpering slightly.
“As much as I appreciate all this, I just need a second, please.” He begs.
You and Steve watch as Bucky rests both his elbows on his knees, hiding his face in his hands.
“I know I wasn’t allowed to hear what they told you in there, but Jesus, Bucky, please.”
Bucky sits silently for a few minutes.
Eventually, he clears his throat.
“She cheated on me.”
You run your hands up the side of his face. You bring his head until it’s on your shoulder, stunned.
He looks up at you, pained.
“You were right. You had always been right.” He says pathetically.
Your worst suspicions confirmed true to send a trigger of emotions up your spine.
You are disgusted, angry, but most importantly, you’re sorry you were right.
You wiped his cheeks with your thumbs, your fest crestfallen in shame.
“Fuck. I just don’t get it. It’s so fucked.” He spats. “It was my father. One of the men.”
Now, this -- this shocks you.
“W-What?”
Your eyes met Steve’s. He’s quiet, but he looks like he’s thinking. Which is not a good emotion for someone who just overheard something so betraying.
It hits you.
“Did you know this?” You ask him, hoping the answer is no.
Steve’s face falls as he looks between you and Bucky.
“I found out recently. I was going to tell you both today. I’m sorry.”
Bucky should’ve been angry, and you and Steve were both expecting some kind of blow out, but he must’ve been so tried because all he did was let his shoulders slump.
“It’s fine, man. I just— It’s hard. I, trusted her for so long. I know it sounds fucking selfish but I feel like I’ve been gaslighted.” He says.
Bucky feels Steve’s hand come down on his shoulder.
“We’ll figure all this out,” Steve says.
You’re still shocked as you run a hand through your hair.
“I can’t believe she’d do something like this to you. I mean, I always had my doubts and my suspicions, but Bucky,” your eyes lift back up to meet his and you feel your own swelling with tears, “But I didn’t want you to get hurt. You don’t deserve this torture.”
Bucky said nothing, staring down at his hands.
He was tired.
Tired of being lied to, of being betrayed.
He took a deep breath, turning back towards his best friend.
“What else was it that you wanted to say?” He asks, clearly trying to change the subject.
You and Steve shared a look as if saying “he’s not okay”.
“Bucky—“ Steve starts, trying to turn the conversation back.
“Please.” Bucky begs.
Steve takes a deep breath and you reach your hand back to hold Bucky’s. He doesn’t hesitate to hold yours back, tightly.
“Did, uhm, did she ever say anything to the two of you in regards to her health?”
The question perks both of your interests.
“Nothing, she always seemed fine.” You say. Your eyes dart back to Bucky, knowing very well he asked the same question a few days ago.
His face is emotionless as he responds, “Why?” “Well look at this.” He pulls out two pieces of paper.
Bucky looks at it immediately, his face growing with concern.
Steve watches him as he talks.
“I had a confrontation with Ashlyn while you were away. She confessed to me that when she was young, in high school, she suffered issues with depression. She was diagnosed when she was of legal age. She told me she tried to keep it a secret from everyone because she didn’t want to be looked at differently, but I wasn’t sure if she really hadn’t told any of you.”
Your heart sank with every word. You felt your tears filling with tears.
You looked at Bucky who looked nothing short of concerned now. He shook his head in disbelief.
“How the hell did you get this?” He looks over the medical record over and over again, “This is from a job background check, I don’t—“ suddenly, he cuts himself short as he makes the connection, “No, he wouldn’t. He knew?”
It just kept getting worst.
You felt the tears on your waterline.
“Why would she keep something like this from me? From her family?” You were rambling as your vision became cloudy.
“I don’t know, maybe fear of looking inferior. She needs help. We need to help her.” Steve says.
You and Bucky were both distraught, but mostly you as you rose up to your feet.
Bucky watched as you pulled on your hair, pacing the room. You were both processing two different things.
“How could she not tell us? I don’t understand.” You repeated over and over again.
“Why the fuck would he keep something like this from me?” Bucky snapped as he looked between the both of you, “None of this shit makes fucking sense. None of this mess makes fucking sense.”
Steve takes a deep breath.
“I know this is hard. I know that. I feel like we’ve all, every single one of us has been fucked over in this situation. But we need to save each other now,” Steve looks directly as you still feel your heart pacing away quickly in your chest, “As much as I know she did very bad things, she did horrible things, I think there’s more to this than what meets the eyes. There’s a reason, Bucky,” He looks at Bucky this time, “There’s a reason why your father kept this hidden. I’m not trying to justify her actions, but for her to go from zero to one hundred after, probably around the time your dad got a hold on this, don’t you think that’s remotely ironic?”
Bucky was pulling on his own hair this time, elbows again on his knees.
He was shaking his head back and forth.
“I — I don’t know. This is too much.” Bucky licked his lips, “It doesn’t matter, she cheated on me, her illness does not justify that kind of action. People who have those things aren’t bad people. She is a bad person, Rogers.”
“I know that, Bucky. But it doesn’t make sense. At the beginning of your relationship, she seemed to have been at least remotely in control of her decisions and her mind. It wasn’t until she started working for your dad that she started suffering.”
“What are you suggesting?” You ask quietly.
“I don’t know, maybe — maybe he did something to her. Maybe he found a way to get into her head.”
“But at what cost?” Bucky snaps, standing up on his two feet, pointing out the window, “at what fucking cost?”
“We need to find out,” Steve looked down at his folders and thinks, they all think for a bit, “are you sure there’s nothing else he left for you? Maybe a clue?”
Bucky looked at Steve like he was crazy.
“A clue?” He asks.
“Yes. A safe, something with a lock, a piece of a written document, audio recording, video?” Steve lists.
Bucky sighs.
“I don’t know. I never bothered to look for anything like that.” Bucky says.
“Steve, what are you thinking?” You ask, reluctantly.
“Maybe it’s my attorney-at-law brain, but I have a feeling that it’s not at all what we think. We went into this thinking he wanted to give everything to Ashlyn. I don’t think it’s that simple. He left something, I know he did.”
With those few words from Steve, you spun around, taking a deep breath.
It was too much for you to process in such a small amount of time.
Just walking into the building itself nauseated him. After his talk with Steve, and after spending a great portion of the night staying up talking with you, he finally gathered up the balls to go to the office to try and find what could possibly be the “clue”.
He had begged, wanting to come with him, but he assured you that you needed rest. After all, he still knew how conflicted you felt about doing what you did to your sister, and now even more after finding out about her underlying illnesses.
You needed time to think before you eventually spoke with her. He waited until you were snoring in softly into his sturdy chest before he left.
He didn’t hesitate a second to log into his work computer. The blue light of the screen lit of up his face in the dark.
And he spent an hour, two hours, two hours and a half, digging through his hard drive, his external hardrive and any file he could possibly find on his computer.
By the time his eyes were burning, it was nearing two am. He gave up.
There was nothing to find, he concluded. There was no fucking clue. It was simple, his father just always wanted to make his life miserable, it had nothing to do with ulterior motives or reasoning.
He was an asshole and a man whore. Easy as that.
But still, as Bucky rested his arms on the table, he couldn’t help but think he was missing something.
He quickly got up from the leather chair (a  hand-me-down from his heartless father), and made his way to the bookshelf on the far right side of the room.
He knew there were some things in here left by his father, some older USBs mixed within but he was aware only held outdated information.
He found in the corner on the bottom shelf and he pulled it out until it landed with a soft thud on the floor.
He opened the grey/green box and rummaged through old office knacks and pens until he found two of the USBs.
He quickly inserted them into his laptop and restarted his search.
He must’ve spent an additional thirty minutes looking through them, only to come out empty handed again.
He was tired, as he groaned into his hand.
His father, once again, had played him.
The emotions of the day hit him with full force, mixed in with exhaustion.
His father was a bastard, this room that once used to be his, now Bucky’s, was tainted with venom.
Bucky slammed his laptop closed and cursed as strong sob escaped his mouth.
He was so, so tired.
With a deep breath, he reached down and grabbed the newton’s cradle off the desk, throwing it at the wall on the other side of the room.
It made a huge bang sound, most likely denting the wall and possibly the floor as it fell to the ground.
Bucky slid down the front of his desk, pulling on his hair as he bent his knees up to his chest.
How could he have been so oblivious and stupid?
“Fuck, fuck, fuck.” He groaned. With a whimper, he lifted his head up, letting it hit back against the large wooden desk. He stared up at the ceiling, cursing himself for being so useless.
He was so tired.
He straightened out his head, allowing his eyes to gaze over the metal cradle he had just thrown.
He almost laughed at how much it didn’t even break. Pathetic.
Only the rectangle base had come off. His eyes slid across the floor to its possible destination. It landed by the chair on the right side by the window over looking the city.
Stupid piece of trash. He never understood why his dad liked that thing.
It looked liked even a piece of the rectangle itself broke off, he noticed.
His eyes squinted, drifting back to the original piece.
But the rectangle was in a full piece.
That small piece wasn’t part of the cradle.
No…
Bucky stands up, with the help of the desk, and he looks at the USB chip across the room in fear.
He felt himself shaking as he walked up to the drive.
It takes him longer than it needed to for him to reach down and pick up the emasculate piece of what could only be the answer to his worst nightmares.
He swallowed thickly, wrapping it tightly into a fist.
His fingers shook when he slid it into his computer, and even more so when not even a password was needed to unlock it.
That easy.
Bucky swallowed as he watched the blue loading line reach the one hundred mark, followed by a video ready to be pressed play.
In the thumbnail was his father, clearly months before his death. He still looked semi-healthy and well.
Bucky didn’t know if he wanted to know anymore; the truth.
He had watched twelve other videos that day, those of which consisted of his wife being fucked by other men.
He couldn’t handle it anymore.
But he knew he had to.
For the sake of his own sanity, his friends, his girlfriend, and his baby that could’ve still been here.
Hesitantly, he presses play.
“You were always a thrower.”
Bucky feels his pulse deep in his head.
His father, grey-haired and blue-eyed, stared intently into the camera.
“I remember when you were just nine years old, and you begged your mom and me for a new Tonka truck. We said no, of course, and you threw your legos all across the living room floor. You could never handle not getting what you wanted,” Bucky felt his blood heating up as the voice echoed in the room. His face was blank, emotionless, “but you were also always too good. I knew you wouldn’t be able to handle this, this business, this company. Not with the heart that you had.”
Bucky swallowed thickly.
“I found out my cancer came back and I knew this family would’ve been screwed at your puny hands.”
Bucky’s face crumpled and his chest tightened.
“You would’ve given it all away, would a child step foot in here asking for three million dollars because he was dying, you wouldn’t hesitate to help. I knew I needed to plant evil into your heart, I needed to plant motive, a motive for you to make this company what it was always meant to be.”
Bucky’s breath quickened as his father’s words grew louder, his face more stern.
“You were always like your mother. Weak, nimble, always thought too much with your heart, not enough with your brain.” He says it with so much disgust that Bucky blinks away tears that have formed. He remember all the time his father had touched his mother and now he wishes he never let him, “At one point I even considered maybe giving the company over to Rogers. After all, he’s a lot smarter than you. The true son I never had.”
A lonely tear runs down Bucky’s left eye.
“But recently, an idea came to me in the form of a dark angel. Your dearest and truly one of a kind, pretty little Ashlyn y/l/n.”
Bucky sucked in a deep breath.
“I didn’t care for her that much at first, not until I saw her medical records and I realized I would be able to use her to achieve my beautiful plan.”
He watches in disgust as his father shows off a wicked smile.
“I knew I would be able to convince her that we needed her, oh how much we needed her; that what she would do to you wouldn’t be bad, but instead help us. I convinced her that she had found true happiness and she believed me. She became addicted to this life. Because of that, I knew that without hesitating, she would do whatever it took to keep this place afloat, above any moral and promises she would make to you. She was already a hundred times more worthy than you ever wore.”
Another tear escapes his eyes and Bucky takes in another breath.
“But you are watching this, so I assume you found out about us. Except there is no us. I could’ve cared less about her. I only did what I did so I could teach her how to be strong. I didn’t just have her sign companies over to us, but I taught her how to make sacrifices. Sacrifices, James. At the end of the day, I could care less about that child. Even though I knew you’d marry her. Such a pretty face, and a good lay too. How you were always so naive, James.”
Bucky’s lip turned into a snarl at his father’s words.
“You couldn’t get yourself a strong lady like Nat, you had to go find a damn fool. One that I fooled oh so damn well. I knew you wouldn’t like the idea of the will, I knew it would infiltrate into the darkest of your desires, the one I always secretly wanted to harbor in you for years - the realization that this company was your families, so you treat it like it’s yours.”
“I also knew you would eventually find out about the affairs, with weak friends like yours who would always have your back, of course you would find out eventually.”
"I made you angry, now didn’t I son?”
Bucky was quickly opening and closing his hand, trying to contain his anger and heartbreak as much as he could.
“I planted that seed in your heart, didn’t I? The desire to want to take something back because it’s truthfully yours, the desire to want to hate and ruin another simply because they have what is yours. Do you see the theme here? You think I’d really give it all away to some dumb slut who can’t tell the difference between a forged will and a real one? How was it overlooked, you ask? Well, lets just say I have my ways, which you would’ve learned if you weren’t such a disappointment for a human.”
A sob escapes Bucky’s lips.
“But, I would assume that after all that happened, you’ve grown, and you had a realization, haven’t you? You’re a little smarter than you were before I was around, huh? And do you know why that is, James? Do you know?”
Bucky quickly blinked, suddenly afraid.
“It’s because you’ve learned to appreciate what it means to not take anymore shit. This world is black and white. There’s good and there’s evil. There’s intelligence and there’s pure idiocy. Which one are you?”
“This is my goodbye to you. I hope I’ve taught you my ultimate lesson. The one I never had a chance to while I was alive. I’ll see you again soon.”
The screen went dark as it finished, and Bucky stared at it blankly as more tears fell and fell from his swollen eyes.
A hard sobbed racked through his body as he brought a fist up to his forehead. He rested his elbow on the desk and sobbed out loud for the first time that day.
And he cried and cried, and cried.
____
It had been a week since Bucky had watched the video that you and all your friends eventually watched, too.
You all feared for Bucky’s well being. He had been silent for so many days, only saying short words answers, most of the time choosing instead to just stare out into space.
You all knew he was traumatized. You and Steve had helped deal with the legal issues of it all, bringing it to Fury’s attention.
He had been just as shocked as everyone else, not understanding how any of it could’ve been overlooked by the authorities. Even though the will Ashlyn had signed was a fake, at the signings of the document (five years ago) she had signed other documents that followed it that still allowed her access to any assets.
Fury didn’t hesitate one second to put Steve on the case. He would be Bucky’s lawyer.
The real enemy in all of this had been George Barnes, and because of the video evidence, it would be easy to win the case.
Five days, and you still hadn’t spoken to your sister.
Five days was how long it took for word to finally reach Ashlyn.
It had been Steve who broke the news to her.
He was sitting at the foot of her bed and his face had a look she couldn’t quite pinpoint.
Ashlyn’s heart hurt inside her chest after Steve told her about the video and what George had said.
“I need to see it.” She said through clenched teeth.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea.” “I’m not weak, Steve. Please.”
Steve looked at her for a second longer before sighing and nodding his head. He would bring in the video some other day for her to see.
“So he knows,” Ashlyn says.
“He knows about your condition, yes." “Don’t say it like that.” “I know, I’m sorry.”
“He still doesn’t want to see you, Ashlyn. He—“ Steve took a deep breath, “He said he’s sorry he ever brought you into this situation. He didn’t mean to make this worst on you, and if he knew what you had been going through, he would’ve never let you near his father. He thinks he’s to blame for what happened. He said he should’ve kept a better watch on you and he hates himself for it.”
Ashlyn scoffs as tears line her eyes.
“But what you did, the way you cheated on him for so long, you even developed feelings for another man, that has nothing to do with your bipolar. That is in no way related, Ashlyn. You knew what you were doing when you did it, so you can understand why he still isn’t ready to see you personally. Why he still doesn’t forgive you. Because of what you did, you pushed him away and fell in love with someone else. That is something George can’t be to blame. That was you. I know you had your issues, but you knew you could’ve been stronger.”
Ashlyn wiped her tears on the back of her sleeve.
“He says you two fell out of love a long time ago, and faith or not faith, it just wasn’t mean to be. He’s not ready to forgive you, but he is extremely pained for the emotional turmoil his father put you through.”
Ashlyn watched as Steve pulled out a piece of paper from an orange envelope.
“He’s found, you some good doctors. He wants you to take care of yourself.”
Ashlyn took the envelope from him.
“He also says you can’t stay here anymore. He’s putting the place up for sale. He says it’s not good for you to be here, that you need to move on. It will be better for your health. There are too many memories in here. He said you should start looking elsewhere for a new job and a new apartment. After the case is closed, you will no longer be an employer at Barnes Enterprises. If you need help looking, I can try my best, but that shouldn’t be too hard for you considering everyone will know who you are.”
Ashlyn took a deep breath and looked up towards the ceiling as she held the paper with the doctor’s names in her hands.
Steve looked at her for a while before dropping his gaze.
“This whole thing, what George did to us all, it was fucked up.”
Ashlyn didn’t respond, a faraway look still in her eyes.
“And the divorce papers?” She asked.
Steve cleared his throat.
“I have those, too.”
“Did he already sign his half?” “Yes.”
She nodded again.
“I don’t want to sign anything until I talk to my sister.”
Steve stared at her for a beat before nodding.
five days later...
“We want to thank you for coming on the show tonight. We wanted to start by asking you one question: Is Ashlyn Barnes still in any way affiliated with Barnes’ Enterprises?”
Bucky swallowed thickly, the bright light of the recording camera making his head swirl.
He cleared his throat.
“Thanks for having me on. I want to start off by saying that as of right now, my wife Ashlyn is still affiliated with the company, yes.”
“There are rumors about a split, which are concerning investors like Pym and Stark Industries.”
Bucky took a deep breath.
“Regardless of any change that may come our way, they can be certain that they will be safe. We are taking appropriate measures to make sure there’s no deficit anywhere. Barnes’ Enterprises will remain at the top and I will protect all my clients. It’s my responsibility, and I will not step away from that.”
And the number one reason Bucky hated his father was because even though George Barnes was a soulless Devin incarnate, he had been right.

a/n: I AM SO SORRY this definitely was supposed to be posted last week but then the end of the semester stressed me tf out and now we’re here!! but i made it extra long to make up for the delay <3
Part One
*****
“Well, if it isn’t the Ricky Bowen himself.”
Ricky and Gina’s conversation is interrupted by a teenage boy with dirty blonde surfer hair wearing a tight, long sleeve shirt that definitely emphasized his six-pack.
Ricky laughed and dapped the boy up, “What’s up, Mason?”
“Not much, but we missed you man! Where have you been?”
“You know, school and stuff.”
“Ah whatever, it’s all good. Gina’s been keeping us company.” Mason went over and hugged Gina for barely more than five seconds but to Ricky, it felt like an eternity. He didn’t know the two would be as close as they were but then again, he doesn’t really know anything about Gina’s life anymore.
“I’m way better anyway.” Gina joked as she let go of Mason and went to greet the rest of the guys she usually hangs out with each weekend leaving Ricky and Mason alone.
“Damn right.” Mason said under his breath while staring at Gina as she walked away. Ricky looked back and forth between the both of them and grew suspicious.
“Do you like her or something?” Ricky asked with evident attitude in his voice.
“Like her? No. She’s gorgeous and we flirt sometimes but she definitely has feelings for someone else.”
Ricky decided to ignore the whole ‘flirting’ comment. What really intrigued him was what Mason said about her having feelings for someone else. “How do you know she likes someone?”
“Dude, she’s resisting me. That’s the only logical explanation.”
Who can it be? It can’t be anyone from their friend group because everyone is basically in a relationship. Maybe it was Rico, he had caught him eyeing her at rehearsals the other day. Or maybe it’s EJ, she does live with his cousin and they hang out all the time so it only makes sense that she’s fallen for him. Unless, Ricky was completely wrong about both of them and Mason was just trying to protect his fragile ego because Gina isn’t falling at his feet. He thought it’d be best to go with the latter.
“Why do you even care anyway? Don’t you have a girlfriend?” Mason said. Ricky furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. Mason goes to West High and they haven’t talked since the beginning of the school year, so Ricky wondered how he even knew about Nini.
The curly haired boy began to notice Gina down in the rink practicing her tricks and was anxious to join her so he cut the conversation with Mason short.
“Um, yeah I do. But we’ll catch up later, alright?” Ricky moved towards Gina with his skateboard.
*****
Two hours had passed and during that time the two teenagers were the happiest they’d been in weeks. Ricky caught up with all his skater friends and Gina even ended up teaching Ricky some new tricks. Of course, Mason incessantly flipped his pretty hair and tried flirting with Gina but unfortunately for him, she was too consumed by Ricky. Gina’s not blind, she knows how attractive Mason is and she’s picked up on his frequent flirtations. She’d be an idiot to not give it a chance.
Nonetheless, she couldn’t get past the fact that his piercing green eyes don’t mesmerize her the same way Rick’y chocolate eyes did. Nor was his wavy hair shaped into delicate curls. Gina could go on and on about how Mason and pretty much any other guy she’s ever met will never compare to Ricky. But that’s not a particularly healthy strategy since she’s supposed to be moving on from him.
Although they were having a great time, it was getting late and both of them had to be home soon.
“I had so much fun tonight.” Gina smiled from ear to ear as she took off her gear.
“Same here. You’re pretty good, Porter. But don’t worry, I’m gonna get my title back.” Ricky teased.
“Does that mean I’ll be seeing you next weekend, Bowen?”
“As Troy Bolton would say, bet on it.” Ricky cringed as soon as the words came out of his mouth followed by Gina’s laughter.
“I think all these musicals are finally getting to you.”
“They really are. But um, do you need a ride home? We could stop for ice cream if you want?” Her heart started pounding. If Gina didn’t know any better, she’d think Ricky just asked her on some kind of informal date. But of course, Nini was the one that he loved, not her.
Before she could respond, Mason appeared. “Hey G, need a ride home?”
Ricky visibly sucked in a breath as he shoved his hands deep into his pockets. Mason had been getting on his nerves a lot more than usual tonight and Ricky couldn’t really figure out why.
Gina glanced over at Ricky. She could either go get ice cream with the boy who she was supposed to be getting over or ride home with the boy who was most likely just trying to get in her pants.
“Uh, actually Ricky’s taking me home.”
She was never good at making decisions anyway.
*****
Ricky and Gina sat in Ashlyn’s driveway in his car while enjoying their frozen treats.
“Ugh, you have no idea how long it’s been since I’ve had ice cream. Ashlyn’s mom is starting this new diet and forbids anything that’s actually edible.” Gina excitedly licked her chocolate ice cream, unaware that she accidentally got some on her nose. Ricky smirked at the sight.
“What?” Gina wondered what could be so funny about her basically being starved by Ashlyn’s mom.
“Um, you just got a little something.” Ricky reached over and gently wiped the ice cream with his thumb. His touch sent shivers down Gina’s spine, it’s been so long since they had any kind of physical contact and it was taking an obvious effect on the teenage girl. To her dismay, it seemed as though Ricky was completely unfazed.
“I forgot to thank you. For tonight, I mean. You really helped get my mind off things.” Ricky ran his free hand through his locks.
Gina nodded. “Of course Ricky. Now, if you don’t mind me asking, what was your fight with Nini about?”
Ricky’s shoulders tensed as he was reminded of the huge argument him and his girlfriend had beforehand. He wasn’t exactly in the mood to talk about that particular subject but it’s been proven time and time again that he couldn’t say no to the girl sitting beside him.
“If I tell you, will you answer a question of mine?” If Ricky was going to indulge in his relationship with Nini, he might as well get something out of it.
Gina shrugged her shoulders, “Sure, whatever you want.”
Ricky took a deep breath and exhaled, “Um, you probably haven’t noticed but Nini and I are not exactly ... good right now.” She would think that upon hearing this news, she’d be ecstatic. But that wasn’t how Gina was now, she wanted Ricky’s happiness and seeing him in pain just made her world crumble.
“Every day, it’s a new fight. Sometimes I wonder why we’re even dating anymore. Which is what my idiot self told her today and it was just some big blow up. Things were said, she threw me out of her house and now I’m here.” Ricky slowly looked at Gina to see her reaction, sadness was written all over her beautiful face.
“Ricky, I may not have been at East High long but ... I know you and Nini are good for each other. Sure, you guys have been hitting some bumps but c’mon, you’re the Ricky and Nini. Your love will bring you back together, just give it time.” Gina always puts Ricky’s feelings above her own, she’s like that way with everybody. If that meant putting on a facade, so be it.
Ricky scoffed, “You think so?”
Gina plastered a small smile on her face, “I know so.”
“Well, I guess it’s time for my question. Mason mentioned that he’s been flirting with you but he thinks you like someone else. Is that true?”
Gina was taken aback by his question. Was he serious? Why does he want to know if I like someone? If they lived in a parallel universe maybe she would find the courage to admit that her feelings for him were growing uncontrollably and how she’s terrified of this newfound feeling. Maybe she’d confess how hurt she was when he dropped their friendship like it was nothing even after everything they’ve been through. Alas, she couldn’t possibly say any of that.
“If you’re asking me if I like Mason, the answer is no.” A heavy weight lifted off of Ricky’s shoulders. Good, he thought, she deserved much better than him. She didn’t fully answer his question but it’ll have to do. “My turn again, do you still have that terrible hat I made you?”
Ricky’s face brightened as he pulled the middle console up and grabbed the hat Gina made, it felt like years since she initially gave it to him.
“Got it right here, I would never throw it away. Do you still have that hoodie I gave you when we went to the mall that one day?”
Gina smiled to herself as she thought of that memory, “Yeah, it’s hanging in my closet.” She made sure to leave out the minor detail of how she had slept in that hoodie on multiple occasions, up until Ashlyn brought her back to reality.
She still had it. Ricky didn’t know why but he felt this strong urge to do something, anything. He found himself leaning closer towards her, causing Gina’s entire body to freeze. All common sense Ricky had inside him flew out the window as he looked down at her soft lips and back up to her wide brown eyes.
Gina had no idea what was happening, with Ricky being so unbelievably close to her, it was impossible to think clearly. Ricky just wanted to feel that passion again, the kind of passion he knows he would feel with Gina. He wanted to feel like he actually mattered to someone. He stared longingly at her face as he pushed a stray curl behind her ear.
Gina was sure he could hear her heart physically exploding inside her chest but remained silent as she was unsure of where this was going. He lightly placed his finger under her chin as she bit her lip. He couldn’t take it anymore, she was driving him crazy. He had missed her so much over the past few weeks and tonight proved that he never wanted to be away from her again.
One kiss, that’s all he needed.
“Kiss me.” Ricky whispered.

Number One (A Redky One-Shot)
Summary: Red thinks if he distances himself from Ricky, he wouldn't notice. What? It's not like Ricky even deserved a friend like him.
Words: 2407
AO3 LINK IN REBLOG
~~~~~~~~~
Staring up at the ceiling, the light of the streetlight still filtering in through the window that stood at level with the street, Big Red watching it move as cars passed by every so often. He should have been asleep hours ago, but something in him was keeping him awake. And he knew exactly what it was.
“Hey Ash?” Red asked, walking up to Ashlyn who just said goodbye to Bianca.
“Yeah, Red?” she said, turning around to look at him, tilting her head.
“Have, have you seen Ricky around?” he asked curiously, eyes flitting around the room. “I got up to dance with you guys and Carlos and he wasn’t anywhere. He’s my ride home.”
Ashlyn looked him over, a weird, almost knowing expression on her face. She sighed, looking over her shoulder at the door. Red furrowed his eyebrows, confusion about her hesitation filling in him.
“He, he left,” she muttered, looking at him sadly. “With Gina.”
Red narrowed his eyes, sure that he had just heard her wrong, or Ricky was pranking him and Ashlyn was in on it, trying to get a reaction out of him. But soon, the crease on his forehead smoothened, when he saw her purse her lips, and he knew. She was telling the truth.
“O-Oh,” is all he mumbled. He took a shaky step back, nodding to himself. Ashlyn sighed, wrapping an arm around him shoulder, pulling him close.
“I’m sorry,” she said, but Red just let out a short, emotionless laugh.
“Why?” he asked sadly. “I kinda knew that would happen.”
Red sighed, turning over in his bed, clinging his pillow. He had always wondered how on earth someone like him had ended up with a friend as cool as Ricky Bowen. Ricky Bowen who was skated like a pro, played guitar like he was born with the talent, could even sing like a dream, and had landed himself the lead in a musical without knowing a thing about them. Ricky Bowen who still came to talk to him and nerd out about video games, watch videos with him, teach him cool skating tricks. Ricky Bowen who let his problems out for Red to see and caught the ones Red himself let out. Ricky Bowen who had always been out of his league in every category, and he still wanted him as a friend.
But Big Red also wasn’t stupid, like he seemed at times. He could tell how what he said seemed to annoy Ricky most of the time, and was the wrong thing to be said in that situation. He knew how he wasn’t the first person Ricky would go to if he needed anything, that was Nini. He couldn’t help but feel Ricky want to find a way to leave or be alone as soon as possible when he was around him.
Okay, if he kept listing this stuff out he would not stop crying, Red told himself, sniffing as he wiped away his tears that had begun to soak his pillowcase.
What if he started to distance himself from Ricky, his mind prodded, the thought having come from almost nowhere. Red sat up, leaning against his headboard.
That literally made no sense, he chided himself. Ricky was his best friend, his number one. He couldn’t just distance himself from him because he was insecure and stupid.
But he wasn’t Ricky’s number one. And so far, with all the Nini drama and chasing to get her back, he didn’t need Red, a small part of him said when everything went quiet. Red’s eyes went wide, and he let out a shaky breath, confirming it to himself. He didn’t like what he was trying to do, but at that moment he needed to protect himself more than anything.
It wasn’t like Ricky would even notice he was drifting.
*
5 days later
“Hey there man!”
Red looked up as he stared at his locker, his breath cutting short as he recognised the voice that was coming. He shut his locker, grasping his skateboard lightly as he turned to look at Ricky, who was smiling at him with his characteristic charm.
“Hey Ricky,” Red muttered, flashing a small smile. To him, Ricky didn’t seem to notice and walked ahead, starting to talk. But Red stood there, looking the other way.
“Red?” Ricky asked when he noticed when he wasn’t by his side, looking back to where he stood. “You’re coming right?”
“Um,” Red muttered, looking back frantically before looking in Ricky’s direction, not meeting his eyes. “I, I can’t. Homework, chores, you know,” he mumbled, starting to walk away.
“But, it’s Wednesday,” Ricky said quietly, his voice unsure. “We always hit the skatepark together on Wednesday after school,” he said sadly, turning to look at Red. “Even if we have an exam the next day.”
“I, I’m sorry man,” Red muttered, shaking his head. “It’s just, a lot of work,” he said quietly.
“You’ve been bailing on me almost every day now,” Ricky muttered sadly, and Red almost wanted to walk ahead, grab his skateboard and run with him to the skate park. But he had to keep that promise to himself. Besides, he was probably just asking Red to come because Nini had Spanish class on Wednesday and today’s scene only required Gina and EJ, so Gina was off the table for hanging out.
Red steadied his breath, walking down the hallway. “I’m sorry man,” he mumbled, before making his way home as quick as possible.
Ricky watched Red walk quickly away, feeling that heavy feeling in his gut that he hated with all parts of him. He had felt it before, when he could hear his parents fighting through his bedroom walls, when Nini told him she had moved on and was dating someone else. He had just never expected to feel it around Red.
Was it just him being stupid, Ricky thought to himself as he put on his helmet and began to make his way home. Or was Big Red avoiding him for some reason?
But if he was, why? What had happened? What had Ricky done?
*
“Hey Ash,” Red said, holding up the phone as Ashlyn waved back at him through the camera.
“How are you doing, bud?” she said softly, and Red sighed, looking down.
“I don’t know,” he muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose with his free hand. “I made a decision to myself the night of homecoming, and it’s been harder than I thought keeping up with it.”
“What do you mean?” she asked, narrowing her eyes. Red sighed, looking up at the ceiling, lying on his bed as he held his phone up.
“I decided to start distancing myself from Ricky,” he said.
“You what?!” Ashlyn said loudly, before clapping a hand over her mouth. “You what?” she asked again, her voice at a lower pitch.
Red sighed. “I don’t know! I was just up all night thinking, and it just hurts Ash,” he said, his voice cracking a bit. “It hurts to know that I’m not one of the first people in his life, even if that sounds insane!” he said with a sad laugh. “While, to me, I would trust him with everything first.”
“I get that,” Ashlyn said softly, her words comforting. “But isolating yourself? I don’t think that’s the solution.”
“Well, it’s working out so far,” Red said, trying to put a smile on his face. But Ashlyn stared at him through the camera.
“Is it?” she asked plainly. Red sighed, shaking his head.
“At this point, I need it to,” he said sadly, and Ashlyn sighed.
“Well, I’m here for you if you ever need to talk, okay?” she said, and red smiled.
“Thanks Ash,” he said, bringing the phone closer. “You’re the best Ash,” he whispered.
“Love you,” Ashlyn whispered, blowing kisses as Red cut the call.
God, he hoped it would work, because this ‘distancing’ thing might end up killing him.
*
Whatever Red was doing, it was killing Ricky.
After rehearsal was done that day, Ricky noticed Red shoulder his bag and leave immediately, without even a glance toward him. He felt his heart sink, and he blinked away tears as he headed over to Ashlyn.
“Ash?” he asked quietly, and Ashlyn looked up from her script, pushing her glasses back.
“What’s up, Ricky?” she asked with a bright smile that softened when she saw the sad look in his eyes. “Is everything okay?”
“Can, can we talk outside?” he asked, his voice cracking. Ashlyn nodded, gathering her stuff and following Ricky outside, who stood by the lockers, sniffing.
“What’s going on?” she asked, looking at him in concern.
Ricky sniffed, rubbing his nose with the back of his hand. “Do you know if Big Red is avoiding me?”
As soon as he asked that, Ashlyn’s eyes went wide and she straightened up, looking beyond Ricky to try and avoid his eye. “N-No! Why would you think that?”
Ricky sighed, looking away. “So he is avoiding me,” he mumbled, leaning against the locker. He pushed his hair back, letting out a shaky breath.
Ashlyn sighed, walking close to him, grabbing his arm. “I mean, I know why he’s doing it, and I don’t know. I kinda get him?” she said softly.
Ricky looked up, his eyes brimming with tears. “What?” he gasped. “Why is he doing it? Why is my best friend avoiding me Ash?”
Ashlyn took a deep breath, dropping her hand. “After you left with Gina on Homecoming, Red was looking around for you. And I told him where you were, and his face just dropped. I’ve never seen someone lose hope so fast,” she mumbled the last part to herself.
“What?” Ricky whispered, feeling his heart sink.
Ashlyn nodded slowly, taking a deep breath. “I was video calling him yesterday and he said he was trying to distance himself from you.”
Ricky looked taken aback, leaning back as a tear escaped his eye. Ashlyn reached out to grab his hand, trying to keep his with the conversation.
“Ricky,” she said softly, squeezing his hand. “The reason he said he was doing it was because he felt like he needed to protect himself from getting hurt. Because you were one of the first people in his life, but he didn’t think you thought the same about him.”
“What?” Ricky croaked out, letting a tear roll down his cheek. “He said that?”
Ashlyn nodded, looking at Ricky intently. “That is not true is it?” she asked, and Ricky vehemently shook his head.
“Of course not!” he said indignantly. “Red is literally the most important person to me! I, I can’t imagine my days without him by my side! He is my best friend!” Ricky started to say loudly, his voice cracking on the word ‘friend’.
Ashlyn sniffed, pushing him. “Then tell him, you idiot!” she said, pushing him to the door.
Ricky nodded, quickly putting on his helmet as he skated as fast as he could to Red’s house.
*
Red dumped his bag on the floor, rubbing his eyes that had been dried of tears as he collapsed onto his beanbag, ready to play video games. However, before he put on his headphones, he heard the door open and loud footsteps down the stairs to his room and…
Ricky.
Red set down his headphones, getting up off the beanbag, staring at Ricky, who was panting, tears down his face. “Ricky?” he whispered, and Ricky looked up, taking in a gulp of air.
“I talked to Ash,” Ricky said, his words barely louder than a gasping whisper. “She told m you’ve been avoiding me.”
“Ricky, I,” Red started to say, looking away, but Ricky held out his hand, bouncing on the balls of his heels.
“She told me the reason you were doing it,” he said quietly. “Was because you were protecting yourself from me. Because you thought I didn’t think of you as one of the first people in my life, like you think of me as one of yours.”
Red shrugged, looking down. “I thought if I distanced myself, you wouldn’t notice. Between Gina and Nini and…”
Ricky scoffed, wiping away a tear. “Gina and Nini don’t matter dude!” he said loudly, gesturing wildly. “I, I, I could care less whether they even existed or not!”
“I don’t know it, it just seems you’d rather be with them than me,” red said quietly, scratching the inside of his thumb. “Which is fair, they’re friends who you actually deserve, you know?”
“No! I don’t know!” Ricky said in frustration, looking at Red. “What do you mean when you say they are the friends I deserve?”
“It’s obvious, isn’t it?” Red said bitterly. “They are talented, and cool, and they can actually match you in every way, and I’m just useless,” he said sadly.
“That is the furthest thing from the truth,” Ricky said, his voice breaking as he walked up to Red. “I don’t care if you confuse theatre terms neither of us know, or don’t sing. That isn’t why you are my best friend.”
“Why am I your best friend then Ricky?” Red asked sadly, looking up with tears in his eyes.
Ricky looked up at the roof, placing both his hands on Red’s shoulders. “You have been there for me through everything. You always have my back. You always have a place for me to stay when things go to hell at home. You keep me down on Earth when I start talking crazy. You and I are best friends against the world.”
Red looked up slowly, a small smile poking its way on his face. “You don’t get annoyed by everything I say like I think?”
Ricky let out a small, watery laugh, shaking his head. “No, dude. I love it when you say things like that.” His smile fell a bit, looking at Red. “Look, I, I’m not good at talking about how I feel, okay?”
Red nodded, looking down. But Ricky, lifted his chin, making him look him in the eye. “But I need you to remember,” he said. “You are always number one in my life, okay?”
Red smiled, hugging Ricky as tight as he could, tears wetting his sweatshirt. Ricky also cried into his shirt, relieved.
“You’re number one in my life too, Ricky,” Red whispered, and Ricky nodded against his shirt, not letting go for a while.
My thoughts on episode 10...
•Rina nation- I don’t want any of us to fret!! We all knew that this was coming and we all had to time mentally prepare us for the start of this slowwww burn.
•I am hoping that next season- we get too see Ej/Gina become a vibing sibling duo/ a dynamic partner in crime team because they’re so wholesome and are both the underdogs of the show. I don’t ship them romantically- but I can definitely see a brother/sister relationship forming between the two and Ej protecting/standing up for Gina. (I would definitely want a scene of Ej confronting Ricky about him confusing Gina’a feelings for him~ that would be a protective brother moment I would want too see!)
•Ashlyn and Gina! I never knew I wanted these couple of besties- but I’ve been blessed! Gina-Ashlyn- And Ej are going to be the cutest little group and little family. I *hope* that Gina will confide in Ashlyn about her problems and open up to her like she once did with Ricky. I think it would also be nice to see her open up about how she feels about Ricky!! Just like I want an Ej/Gina sibling duo- I would most DEFINITELY want an Ashlyn/Gina sister duo!
•Ricky and Nini- there scenes were happy and cute- and right now- I think that this is what’s important. There’s a difference between an everlasting type of happiness- and a happiness that only lasts for a short amount of time. I think a key thing we need to focus on is what Ricky’s mom said to Ricky, “Not all couples are meant to be together, sometimes people change” I believe that this could be a major foreshadow in the future relationship between Rini in the sense that- they both find a similar comfort with each other that neither one of them want to outgrow. With all the changes that are occurring in Ricky’s life- and now Nini “maybe” leaving to go to the art’s school- it all comes back to this speech that it’s OKAY TO GROW WITHOUT THE PERSON YOU LOVE. Even IN relationships, we all continue to grow and to change no matter what. Change is unpredictable and is something that is accustomed with life! In the love speech Ricky gave to Nini- it’s obvious that they’re both very much in love with each other. But- it also felt that in the speech- he wanted the relationship he wanted with Nini to continue as it was and for everything to stay the same as it was before. It’s obvious that Ricky holds onto the normalcy that he has in his life and that everything he’s loved is changing immensely. I’ll go back to the point in which Ricky’s mom said that not all couples are meant to be together. Just because you’re in love with someone, doesn’t mean the right thing is to be in a relationship. Personally, I feel that Rini is a very cute couple and that they’re always going to love and care for each other. BUT- I do NOT think that Rini is a canon ship. I think the purpose of the relationship right now is to show the audience that it’s OKAY to fall in love more than once. Most of us aren’t going to be with the first person we fall in love with- and it’s a learning experience that your first loves will give you for all your future loves. Before anything else- Ricky and Nini are best friends- whether they broke up- or are dating- they’re best friends before anything else and I hope that going into season 2- we get to see if the relationship is made to be a learning experience for both of them as individuals- or made to be something that’s worth withstanding.
•Ricky and Gina~ One of the main reasons I love these two as a couple is the fact that they can relate AND balance each other out at the same time. They’re so different- but SO similar in many ways- and it amazes me because most people we find like this don’t usually work well together- but Rina has disproven that. The show is about NOT sticking to the status quo- and even if you don’t ship Rina romantically- we can tell that they bring out the best in each other. For Ricky- his home has always been in Red and Nini- for Gina- it seems as if her home has always been within herself. As the season progressed- we got to see them cling onto each other for a sense of security and it was new, exciting, and scary since neither of them have been used to having someone who understands them so clearly. I believe that this slow burn type of relationship will work well into our Rina hearts if Disney decides to go the route of enemies to lovers or falling in love with another person. I think that next season- it will be interesting to see how Rini and Rina play out since Ricky got himself caught up in a little love triangle along the way. Nini is his comfort blanket- the person who HE’S been in love with for however long- his person. Gina is something new- someone exciting and empathetic of what he’s going through- someone who’s the opposite and challenges him through thick and thin. Nini and Gina are both VERY different people. Ricky’s platonic and romantic relationship is very different as well. As much as I think Rini is a cute ship that shows comfort with one another, I do believe that Rina is a canon ship in the future:-) I think that so far- Rina shows an understanding between each other and challenge one another to go out of one another’s comfort zone. Just because someone has been your comfort blanket for half of your life- doesn’t mean it’s meant to last forever.
•*SIDE NOTES!* I would LOVE if we got scenes of Ashlyn and Gina at their home talking about boys and just cute little things! I’ll say this again- I never knew I needed a bestie-ship from Ashlyn and Gina, but I am 100 percent DOWN for this! I hope Gina begins to confide in Ashlyn about Ricky, her life, and just everything in general! Gina deserves to know how loved she really is and how she doesn’t need to only find a home in herself or Ricky anymore:)))
• I LOVE Ashlyn and Red! I wasn’t expecting this! But they’re both the cutest little gingers I know <3 !!! I hope in season 2 we get too see more of this relationship pan out and again- it would be cute too see Ashlyn blushing and talking to Gina about this!!!
•*END!!* All in all, I can’t believe season 1 is ALREADY OVER! And I can’t wait till season 2! I would love too see how the season goes on about Nini getting into that arts school- WHAT’S happening between Rina and Rini- the new and upcoming friendship with Ashlyn and Gina! What’s going to happen with Ricky and Gina?? And hopefully- the dynamic brother and sister duo between Ej and Gina! So much left is to be said! If you’ve got this far, I hope you enjoy and thanks for reading!!:)❤️
Here’s your gift!
@caitlinesmewilliams - I got you in the gift exchange, and I wrote you a Ricky/Nini one-shot, which I hope you like! It’s called ‘We’re Breaking Free’, and I’ve cross-posted it to AO3 in case you want to read it there (here’s the link). If not, I’ve posted it under the cut :)
In a rare moment of quiet, Nini sits backstage, quietly strumming. Her chords clash a little with the familiar beat of ‘Getcha Head in the Game’, barely audible from the makeshift stage in the school gym. She didn’t plan on bringing her ukulele tonight, but on her way out of the door this morning, she grabbed it on impulse and took it with her. As a good luck charm, perhaps. I need it now more than ever, she muses with a dry smile, thinking of the talent scout from the Y.A.C., Kalyani Patel, out in the audience.
She relaxes a little, though, as she reflects upon the first act thus far. She can’t deny it’s been… a little chaotic, particularly with Gina’s surprise return, prompting a very sudden cast change which, she thinks with a grimace, probably seriously confused the audience. She’s pretty sure they pulled it off, though, and Gina’s incredible dance break in ‘Status Quo’ made it worth it.
Suddenly the sound of drums pulsing through the walls stops, and she pictures Ricky, suspended on wires at the turning point of the song. And she smiles – something she’s finding herself doing a whole lot more lately, when she thinks about Ricky.
That said, on this particular occasion, she’s not sure whether she’s smiling at the thought of Ricky himself, or simply remembering what happened when they first used the wires at the dress rehearsal yesterday.
Most of the cast had been sceptical when Mr Mazzara, of all people, had arrived at their first meeting after the disastrous tech rehearsal, and told them that his robotics club had constructed a pulley system in the gym by which they could lift Ricky off the ground for the scene.
When they tried it, however, it worked fairly well – the harness held, and it turned out that Ricky was perfectly capable of singing whilst being hoisted up. The problem came when the industry-grade steel cable made Natalie’s hands sweat, and she lost her grip.
With a terrified yell, Ricky plummeted about eight feet before EJ and Seb seized the cable, halting Ricky’s gut-twisting descent and leaving him spinning in his harness, seven feet from the ground. A nervous laugh rippled around the gym as Carlos, looking distinctly pale, proposed using one of the climbing ropes instead. Ricky was white as a sheet when they brought him down again, but he quickly saw the funny side and was laughing with the rest of them.
Nini shakes her head fondly, but frowns as she realises that the production has been silent for a weirdly long time. The band stopped playing almost twenty seconds ago, and Ricky’s only supposed to wait about five seconds before giving them his cue line. Suddenly, though, the music starts up again, and she lets out an involuntary hum, hoping that there’s nothing wrong.
Less than a minute later, she sees someone – who looks suspiciously like Ricky – march past the open door. She carefully puts down her ukulele and jogs to the door to ask him how the scene went, but by the time she gets there, he’s disappeared. She looks the other way, where Kourtney, Carlos and Seb are looking in the direction Ricky vanished. Nini’s unnerved by how concerned they look. “What happened?” she asks, as Big Red’s voice sounds over the speakers, announcing the intermission. “We’re not sure,” Kourtney says with a shake of her head. “He sort of froze,” Seb adds. “While he was in the air. And he dropped the ball.” “Why, what’d he do?” Nini asks. “No, as in, he literally dropped his basketball,” Carlos says, widening his eyes to emphasise the point. Nini feels her heart sink. “Did he say where he was going?” Carlos shakes his head, but Kourtney speaks up. “He’ll be back for the second act.” Her voice is confident, and Nini hopes she’s right.
“Gabriella, you’re on in one minute!” Natalie calls, and Nini relaxes. They’re about five minutes into the second act, and as far as she can tell, nothing has gone completely wrong. She follows Natalie to the wings and, as rehearsed, looks around the set and the gym as she walks casually onstage. This is right; this feels good. “Wow, this is your real stage?” she says curiously, but her voice shakes on the final word as her gaze falls on EJ, wearing Troy’s basketball shirt. Ricky’s basketball shirt. No. No, this is wrong. Where the hell is Ricky? “Guess you could call it that,” he replies, looking altogether too relaxed in this topsy-turvy situation. “Or, just a smelly gym.” It kills her to break character, but she has to make sense of this. “What’s going on?” she hisses, surreptitiously covering her microphone with one hand. “Where’s Ricky?” EJ frowns minutely and, without replying, passes her the basketball. She narrows her eyes at him as she catches it, but dutifully makes a shot, watching with a bizarre sense of satisfaction as it misses the hoop and bounces off the backboard. “Whoa!” EJ says, jogging across the stage to retrieve it. “You shoot hoops too?” She stutters; she’s suddenly having difficulty breathing. Ms Patel can’t be impressed by this; she has to do better. “I once, uh, scored forty-one points at a league championship game.” “No way.” “Yeah,” Nini says, functioning purely on autopilot. The words are muscle memory to her, but she can barely hear them. Her mind is swirling. “The same day I invented the space shuttle, and microwave popcorn.”
The rest of the scene is a blur. Again, on impulse, she whispers desperately to EJ for an explanation, infuriated by his plea for her to trust him. At her cue, she all but runs offstage. As she exits through the temporary stage door, she can hear the words of Ashlyn’s beautiful song taunting her from behind.
What I did felt right, but was I wrong? Is this where I’m supposed to be at all?
Everything after that passes in a blur. She’s so angry, at everyone. At Ricky, for bailing on her – on them. At EJ, for letting him go and just taking the part so readily. At Miss Jenn, for casting her in this role she feels she’s so abjectly failing. At Kourtney, for inviting Kalyani Patel when she’s sure she’s never going to get in. At herself, for thinking she could do any of these things.
She kicks a chair backstage in fury, feeling her heart pound in her chest as she watches it topple over and skid across the wooden floor. A figure bedecked in an elegant black pant suit appears in the doorway, looking worried. “Nini, you okay?” Miss Jenn’s voice is soft and full of concern. “Will be,” she says, pressing a hand to her temple. “Just… a lot going on.” “I heard about the talent scout,” she says. “It’s not surprising that you’re stressed.” She nods slowly. “It’s not just that. But thanks.” “Do you want to talk about it?” she asks, and Nini hesitates, picking up the chair she kicked and sinking into it. “I guess I’m just scared of screwing up,” she says quietly, and Miss Jenn lets out a low chuckle. “Are you serious? You’re killing it out there.” “Thanks,” she says, not even slightly believing him. “But this is not my best performance.” “It’s not supposed to be,” she says, and Nini does a double-take. “What?” “Nini,” she says, crouching down in front of her and taking her hand, “I spent nearly fifteen years assuming that my best performance had already happened.” Nini nods, wondering where she’s going with this. “But the truth is, it turns out you guys are my great performance. My magnum opus, if you will. This isn’t Broadway, Nini – no one here is looking for the perfect show.” She cracks a smile. “Which is good, because God knows we haven’t had it tonight.” Nini laughs and sniffs, feeling her eyes moistening. “This isn’t going to be the best performance of your life, because you’re only going to keep getting better. That talent scout is looking for potential, and that’s what she’s going to see in you.” She squeezes Nini’s hand and stands up to go. “How do you know that?” Nini asks desperately, and Miss Jenn pauses at the door. “Because I did.” She smiles once more and disappears out of the door. After a moment’s thought, Nini exhales deeply, gentle wipes her eyes and follows her out.
By the time she’s back onstage, she’s forgotten her anger. EJ’s explained what happened – what Ricky told him to do, and why. She’s not even concerned about the Conservatory anymore – as EJ begins the chorus of ‘Breaking Free’, she remembers what Miss Jenn told her: she saw Nini’s potential. Maybe Kalyani Patel will too.
And then she sees Ricky, standing at the gym doors with Gina, and the last embers of her fury at him evaporate as well. As EJ lets her go – possibly in more ways than one – she looks into Ricky’s frightened eyes, and she realises that she loves him.
“You know the world can see us, in a way that’s different from who we are…”
As she walks towards him, she pulls out her phone and flicks on its flashlight. Since Big Red hasn’t put a spotlight on him yet, she’ll do it herself.
“Creating space between us, ‘til we’re separate hearts…”
He shakes his head and murmurs, “I’m really… not at my best.” And her heart aches because of how wrong he is. She’s known him for nearly their entire lives, and this, right here, is the best version of Ricky she’s ever known. He’s open and vulnerable, and he might have given up on something he was committed to – but this time, he did it entirely because he wanted her to succeed. “Just look at me, Ricky,” she says, slipping her phone back into her pocket as Big Red finally gets his act together. “Right at me.” The music starts up again, and Nini lifts the microphone to her lips again. “But your faith, it gives me strength…” A grin breaks out onto his face as he joins in. “Strength to believe…”
She can’t help smiling as she pulls him back to the stage. They’re going to be okay.
“Jensen!” Misha called out almost as soon as he entered the dining hall and Jensen couldn’t help but smile. Misha was sitting surrounded by a notes, laptop and food.
“Hi Mish,” Jensen greeted sitting down across from his friend, frowning a little when Misha handed him a cup. He eyed it suspiciously, before looking up at Misha. “What’s this?”
“Eggnog. I got two since I knew you were stopping by,” Misha held up a cup of his own, tabbing it against Jensen’s, “merry christmas bro.”
Jensen smiled, shaking his head a little before bringing the cup to his lips, assuming it was safe to drink since it came from the dining hall. Seconds later he was coughing and sending a laughing Misha a scolding look.
“Oh yeah I might have spiked it,” Misha laughed as Jensen placed the cup back against the table.
“A little heads up next time huh?” Jensen couldn’t help but smile. He actually loved how unpredictable Misha was. He never did anything to be mean to anyone. He was just quirky and loveable. It was easy to tell Y/N was his sister. They shared a sense of adventure and had the same huge heart.
“What did you wanna talk about?” Misha pulled Jensen from his thoughts and he took a deep breath.
“You think there is any chance of your family wanting to spent Christmas in Austin?” Jensen decided to get straight to the point.
Misha leaned back in his seat with a frown, “Nips is not happy spending Christmas away from us huh?”
Jensen shook his head. “She was practically crying last night, but she refuse to cancel on my mom so I thought…”
“Clear things with your mom and I’ll talk to mine. I don’t think it will be a problem. It is usually just the 5 of us,” Misha nodded and a big smile spread across Jensen’s face, as he got off his seat.
“Thanks man. I better get going. I am picking up sandwiches and paint brushes. We are doing the nursery today,” Jensen beamed, making Misha smile.
“Let me know if I can help,” Misha offered, clearly hoping to escape his studying since a look of slight disappointment crossed his face when Jensen said it was something he and Y/N wanted to do on their own. Jensen caught it though and decided to throw his friend a bone.
“If you bring burritos, Y/N/N and I are doing a Christmas movies marathon tonight?” Jensen offered, grinning when Misha’s entire face lit up. “Just don’t tell Y/N about our Christmas plans. I wanna surprise her,” Jensen added before heading for the door.
“My lips are sealed. See you tonight Jackles,” Misha called after him as Jensen chuckling rushed out the door to get back home to his girlfriend before she got too suspicious as to where he went.
