the below is literally just me pointing out how all my silly little shows with all my silly little people are in the same universe, im putting it below a keep reading thing because i understand the utter pain of having to scroll through all that

httyd, toa, toh, rotg, gravity falls, and vox machina, etc, theyre all in the same universe. mort theory theorizer level shit but like!!??!?!?!

-dragons and trolls and gnomes

-douxie mentions orcs, elves, dwarves, etc

-gravity falls and the owl house are already connected canonically so

-silly bards with their silly instruments they hit people over their silly heads with

-i dont watch the podcasts for vox because of spoilers, but there is a fire realm and a whole lot of dark magic, so shadow realm??

-somebody confirmed httyd and toa were connected, i think it was aaron but it was a while ago

-either way, you can see 1. stoick's helmet in the museum 2. astrid's axe when toby is picking out warhammer and 3. a yaknog mug

-also httyd is canon because the trolls treat maces and talons like dnd while strickler implies its treated more like chess (like how it is!!)

-genuinely sorry for people who dont like toa or httyd as much but theyre my hyperfixes and the only things i can focus on real!!

Favorite songs of 2023

With the speechless list already out, I want to close out my end of year lists with my favorite songs of 2022. Some expected artists pop-up (with unexpected songs?) and some wild cards thrown in for good measure. So rather than wasting your time, get started below.

Ms. Mural

When Lupe Fiasco announced he would write and record an album in 24 hours, even as a huge fan of his work, I wasn't exactly expecting much. What felt like years later, we had a name 'Drill Music in Zion' (goat album name?) then a few months later a single 'AUTOBOTO'. A good track, but nothing out of the ordinary for Lupe; a song he could make in autopilot, yet still lyrically dropping gems 'What's an infrared dot to a whole dot gov?'.

What really had me excited though was finding out DMIZ would house the next in the Mural series, this time Ms. Mural was taking center stage. It does not dissapoint. Hearing Lupe rap over some classic Soundtrakk production, while narrating the song from the perspective of a painter and his patron (as well as the painting itself?); is the kind of mind-blowing goodness I anticipate from the Chicago emcee. The are bars, on bars in this song that I could point out, but from;

Man does not become superior 'cause you connect him to a cape, Nor does become inferior because you connect him to a ape,

we get a masterclass in subject switching (gender roles, ethics etc) while tying it into the artistic narrative of a song. Like every Fiasco song, this one will take months to unpack, so why not join me and help me understand?

Sistanem

J.I.D, for years has been on the verge of achieving his final form. Clearly, incredibly talented, with easily the most interesting flow in the game, ferociously adaptable and having an innate ability to find THE pocket in any beat. The thing that was missing was always the album that would focus his potential, the ability to cohesively tell a story while standing out like the always does. In 'The Forever Story', he thankfully delivered on his years of promise. in a short, dense 12 track album.

J.I.D spent a chunks of the album doing what he was already excellent at (Surround Sound, Raydar, Lauder too) but better, as well as introducing us to sides of him that were not as obvious. I couldn't decide between Crack Sandwich, Kody Blu 31 or Sistanem for a long time as the highlight of the album, but the latter seemingly mixes what the former do fantastically but in one 6-minute track.

Produced by James Blake, Sistanem is the perfect amount dark and brooding as it is comforting and melodic. The drums are quiet, delicate and subdued, perfectly complimented by J.I.D's more graceful than usual delivery.

His sing-songy delivery of:

Back on the road, gone with the wind blows Packin' the shows, hoes and the nymphos, platinum and gold You know how this shit go when family's gone You don't know what you here for, uh

is the soundbite of the song.

Blake, cleverly adds instruments as the story of the family / sisterly squables evolve (adding to the animosity) - as J.I.D experctly adds tired inflections to his voice, helping sell the ongoing turmoil being re-told.

If you have any interest in modern hip-hop I would definetly give this song and the album a listen.

Survivors Guilt

It's been a long, long time since a Joey Bada$$ song hit me the way Survivors Guilt has. The death of Capital STEEZ has been hanging on Pro Era and Bada$$ for years now, never entirely being addressed (definetly not like this). On Survivors Guilt, Bada$$ pulls back the curtain and burns it down; revealing a much more vulnerable side to him, I wasn't aware he was willing to put on record. With the final verse from Joey and the outro from Ab-Soul (especially after HERBERT) closing the song at an incredibly emotional crescendo.

This is the best Joey Bada$$ has sounded to me in years and I hope what he managed to achieve with this track, specifically on this 1999 leaning production that Rahki produced — we'll be seeing more of this Joey, more often.

Drugstore

London born, US based IDK has been growing on me these past few years. With tracks like Just Like Martin, Once Upon A Time and Black Sheep / White Dover; I've been seeing a much more confident artist taking form, constantly diversifying his features, production and delivery.

When I heard IDK was partnering with the incredible KAYTRANADA on an EP, I had a feeling it could be special. Spoiler alert, I was not dissapointed. KAYTRANADA wild' out on every song, creating the sort of grooves I would have just loved to see Smino over, but thankfully IDK took on the challenge and delivered such a good collection of songs, I couldn't imagine anyone else rapping over these beats so well. Drugstore is the EPs standout; over a bouncy, ever-evolving beat IDK delivers a tour-de-force, that when the song ends you'll be pressing the replay button without even realising. Would love to know what others think of this one.

Please Do Not Lean

It's been so over half a decade since the release of the timeless Freudian. Since then he's been much quieter than I had hoped, with odd loosies here and there, but thankfully 2022 delivered a song worthy of his name. Produced by the ever-great BBNG, Daniel spends the next 3 minutes (or so) letting us in on his confession — the unstable and trying relationship of his with his bride to be.

Singing:

Just how long will you stand next to me? For we both know, it's more than a load For you to bear / It'd break my heart, but I'd understand if you'd Leave me for another man with a little Less on his mind, less on his plate Less in his brain,"

The intimate nature of the lyrics is only magnified by the stripped back, acoustic production pieced together. Supposedly Please Do Not Lean is the introduction to his next album, which hopefully arrives sooner rather than later.

An Interlude 'Circus'

I was unfortunately whelmed by Saba's most recent album A Few Good Things. The fault lied with me, expecting Saba to keep his incredible streak going after the excellent CARE FOR ME; but it wasn't to be. That's not to say everything is doom and gloom with this LP providing another few outstanding tracks in the chicago born rappers repetoir.

An Interlude 'Circus' commited the cardinal sin, of a fantastic song being simply way too short. Clocking in at little over 60seconds, Circus is a beautiful, perfect for a summers day, quiet storm musical concotion, that only Saba could deliver with that unique cadance of his. I really hope eventually we get a longer version of Circus, but for now at least I can appreciate the fact I can run this track 3 times before your typical Abba song finishes.

Dark Hearted

I've always had a love / hate relationship with Freddie Gibbs. More often than not, his particular brand of modern gangsta rap rubs me the wrong way; skewing too far to the right for me to really appreciate. Yet, once every while, Gibbs delivers a song so good I can't help but pay attention; that's where Dark Hearted comes in.

Found on his latest album $oul $old $eparately, this is a level above anything Gibbs has come with i the past. Thanks to the once again ridiculous work behind the boards of James Blake, Gibbs has the dark and forebodding tapestry his carefully slick lyrics demand.

A relentless display by Gibbs, completely contrasting the moody production in the background running through his troubles moving from the streets to stardom. With the song really being tied together by Gibbs delivery; his innate ability to combine his dark lyricism with a much more accessible melodic delivery over this kind of beat results in a stand out song of 2022.

Hoping for more of this from Freddie Gibbs in 2023.

ONCE UPON A TIME, Castiel had said that watching humanity was boring. Little did he know back then that you just had to find a favorite human to watch, and it all would turn upside down for you. They're far more interesting up close: their irks and quirks, their fads, the way they look different when they step from the shadow of a tree into the bright sunlight. Castiel likes to count the freckles on Dean's face or watch Sam scrunch his nose up whenever he stumbles across an interesting tidbit of monster lore. It's endlessly fascinating, and, as he learned recently after starting some new activities with Sam, it makes him feel good all throughout his vessel in certain situations.

Those habits or movements aren't always sexually coded, even. Castiel can watch Sam push a strand of hair behind his ear and think about licking the lobe, or he can observe him tying his shoelaces and remember those deft fingers opening his fly. He supposes this is what humans call horny, though Castiel barely acts on it, doesn't have to, really, because the tingling sensation in the pit of his stomach is enough for him most of the time.

Today, he decides to act and outright asks Sam if he can watch during a more intimate moment (humans classify anything that leaves more than 77.4 % of their body exposed as intimate), and he's ridiculously pleased to hear that he's allowed to. Much less pleased when Sam tries to turn it into sex immediately, but that's quickly brushed off, and then Sam finally understands what Castiel really wants and takes off his clothes, piece for piece.

"Maybe later," he discards Sam's idea of joining him in the shower. Instead, he steps closer, hands loosely at his side, still very much dressed in his suit and trench coat as his eyes roam over Sam's body and greedily take in every inch of exposed skin when the hunter works his shirt over his head. He is a thing of beauty: pale skin with freckles and moles and rosy patches where a blush betrays his nonchalance — the blue of veins in the crook of his elbow or the hard shadows cast by the sharp edges of his muscles. Castiel takes all that in and marvels at the wonder that is the human body, and Sam's specifically.

Outwardly, he is calm, almost eerily tranquil in his intense staring, and only his glassy eyes and the wild beating of his heart betray his real feelings. Perhaps he's been in a vessel too long by now to be bodily affected by such a sight, or maybe he has fallen too deeply for humanity in a metaphorical and quite literal sense. But fact is that Castiel isn't calm at all inside. His grace is bubbling and boiling over, the blood of his borrowed body rushing south to tent out the dress pants he's wearing, and there's a faint ringing in his ear. He feels a little like a wild chimpanzee took over his higher brain functions and is throwing a party with chimpanzee friends inside his head. One of the apes really wants to make Castiel lick a wet stripe from the small of Sam's back up to his nape, but he manages to remain composed. Licking is nice, but he isn't yet done with looking.

"Now get under the shower," he says once Sam is completely naked. It sounds a little like an order — a heritage from Castiel's time as captain of a heavenly garrison. "Don't turn around just yet — I'm quite fond of your buttocks."

Cortland: 2023 NCAA Division III Football National Champions

SALEM, Va. (AP) — Zac Boyes threw for 349 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 123 yards, Cortland stopped a 2-point conversion attempt with 90 seconds remaining, and the Red Dragons beat defending champion North Central 38-37 on Friday night for their first NCAA Division III championship.

Cortland (14-1), playing in the Stagg Bowl for the first time in program history, handed North Central (14-1) its first loss since the 2021 championship game. The Cardinals, in their fourth straight title game, won the 2019 national title in addition to last year.

Both teams scored in the final 1:41 — with North Central electing to go for 2 instead of a potential tying extra point with 1:20 to go. Quarterback Luke Lehnen was stuffed on a run to the left side and Cortland recovered an onside kick and ran out the clock.

“It means everything. I was over there talking to the officials on the sideline when we were kneeling it out and I’m like ‘We can kneel it, right? We can kneel it out and clock’s at zero’ and he said yes,” Cortland coach Curt Fitzpatrick said. “I can’t believe it. It’s amazing. I’m so proud of our players and coaches and our fan base that drove seven hours to be here.”

Cortland converted on a fourth-and-5 play near midfield with 3:49 to go in the fourth quarter and Cole Burgess ended the drive with a catch in the backfield before racing down the sideline for a 21-yard touchdown.

North Central scored 21 seconds later when DeAngelo Hardy was left wide open over the middle of the field and he cut back a defender to race for a 60-yard touchdown. The Cardinals, who average 60 points per game and rarely kick field goals, were denied back-to-back championship on the goal line.

North Central entered with the nation’s longest active win streak with 29. South Dakota State, which won its FCS semifinal game on Friday, has 28 straight wins, followed by Washington (20), Florida State (19) and Division II Harding (18).

The Red Dragons’ trip to the title game included three road victories and one at home — ending in a 12th straight victory.

Three of the first four drives of the game ended in fourth down stops in the red zone.

Cortland avoided being shutout in the first half of a game for the first time since 2016 when it drove 55 yards in 51 seconds — aided by a 15-yard penalty — to get within 7-3 after Mike Baloga’s 31-yard field goal.

Cortland began the second half with a seven play, 72-yard drive ending in Burgess’ 9-yard touchdown grab for a 10-7 lead. A video replay overturned the call on the field as Burgess got a foot down before going out of bounds.

It was just the second time all season that North Central trailed in a game — with the other coming in the fourth quarter of the semifinals.

North Central tied it at 31-all with 7:16 remaining on Lehnen’s 64-yard run.

Lehnen, who won the Gagliardi Trophy, the premier D-III individual award, threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 159 yards and another score for North Central. Joe Sacco added 159 yards rushing, including his 20th rushing touchdown of the season, to reach the 100-yard mark for the 11th time this season. Hardy made five catches for 146 yards and a touchdown.

Boyes became the second quarterback in school history to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100. Burgess finished with 11 catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns for Cortland. Joe Iadevaio also had two touchdown grabs and 95 yards. JJ Laap made two catches for 75 yards and a score.

North Central’s third made field goal of the season — in three attempts — came with 3:16 left in the third quarter to tie it at 17-all.
