matt x fem!reader
summary: after a while you decided its time to share the news of your new chapter in life with Chris and Nick
warnings: pregnancy
word count: 1,5k
a/n: thank you for over 100 notes under part 1! I decided to continued the story. I hope you will like it!
It's been a month since me and Matt found out that I'm pregnant. It’s been hell of a ride so far. We somehow managed to talked Chris and Nick out of my little episode and told them I just got my period and was really upset, tired and need Matt to go to the store for me. I spent entire next two days in Matt’s room trying to figure out our situation. I was also constantly sick and anxious. After than I just tried to be as normal as I could so no one would be suspicious.
At first it was like I didn’t know what I should do. But then I found myself thinking about the baby with my hand on my stomach and I knew I wanted to keep it. I also did hear Matt talking to my belly in the middle of night which made me cry so hard in the bathroom because of how cute that was.
Today was my first ultrasound appointment to confirm the situation and check if everything is alright.
“You know… I was thinking that if everything is good I would like to tell Chris and Nick and then we can decide how and when we want to tell the rest of the family” Matt looked at me when we stopped on the red light.
Keeping this a secret form his brothers was really hard for him because they always talked about everything with each other. Which was scary for me at first. Their whole relationship and building my own with Matt but also becoming part of theirs. Now I just admire the bond between them.
“Yes I was thinking the same” I smiled at him and put my hand on his thigh. I was nervous about only one thing.
“What I was thinking… Is that I will literally jump if your fucking triplets genes worked too hard and there is more than one of those” I said what was on my mind recently.
“Oh my goodness… I didn’t think about this” He put his hand over his mouth.
He was clearly scared now.
“We giving one to Chris in that case” I said seriously.
“Please , we are never leaving our kids with Chris, ever” he said.
I only laughed at that and patted his leg.
“It’s gonna be all good Matt, let’s manifest it’s only one for now” I said.
“Baby… I know this month wasn’t ideal for you and we both tried to cope with the fact that we’re going to have a baby but also only us knowing for now is really special” He looked at me for a second and his eyes went back to the road.
That was also exactly how I felt and I leaned forward to him and kissed his cheek.
“I love you Matty… I know this is all hard but you’re right” I said.
“I love you too sweet girl… okay we’re here, let’s do this” He parked the car and took a deep breath.
Our appointment went smoothly. They did my blood test which confirmed that I’m pregnant. They also did bunch of other tests to see if I’m all good and healthy. Thankfully I was. The last step was the ultrasound.
“Alright parents…” The doctor said and I gasped at the cold of the liquid that she put all over my lower belly.
She called us “parents”, that took me by surprise and I felt so weird.
“Ready?” She looked at me and smiled and I only nodded and closed my hand on one of Matt’s hands.
She started the thing and looked at the monitor. We couldn’t see it just yet.
“Okay… I found it… everything looks great. The baby is healthy. Looks like you’re about 6/7 weeks pregnant” She said.
“Only one?” Matt asked and wiggled on the chair.
“Oh my Lord, Matt… He is a triplet and we were kind of scared that you know… there’s gonna be more than one” I laughed and looked back at the doctor.
“Yes there’s only one” She laughed as well and turned the screen so we could see it too.
I felt like my heart skipped a beat when I saw a little thing moving on the screen. Like a dot. But I knew it’s our baby.
“Oh my…” I said and she pushed some kid of button and sound of a really fast heartbeat started to play from the machine.
“Is that?..” Matt gasped as well.
“That’s your baby’s heart beating… it’s really fast that’s normal and that’s actually really good. The baby is really healthy, you guys… congratulations” She said with a big smile.
But both of us were speech less. I caught Matt swiping tears from his cheek with a corner of my eye. That moment was something you can’t explain. You need to experience that yourself to know how much love I felt in this moment.
When we were back in the car I put all of my stuff in the back seat, closed the doors and turned around to go to my doors but I was met by arms of my boyfriend.
“Oh Matt…” I said hugging him back.
He hid his head in the crock of my neck and I run my fingers through his hair. I felt tears on my skin and I couldn’t help as my eyes started to water as well.
“We’re going to be okay. We can do this Matt. Together” I said but my voice broke I couldn’t exactly feel what’s happening.
“I know… y/n I’m just so happy that’s it’s overwhelming” He said pulling back to rest his temple against mine.
“I feel exactly the same way” I whispered looking him in the eyes.
He kissed me and pulled me even closer to his body. I couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else.
On our way back we stopped by target and some other places to get Nick’s and Chris’s favorite snacks, drinks and some funny, cheesy stuff that had “cool uncle” on it.
At home I put all of it in two boxes and also added a picture from the ultrasound to each.
This situation was so unreal for me and Matt. They were actually filming in the kitchen now. I really wanted to have their reaction on camera, so we told them that Matt wanted to do some kind of unboxing with their eyes blindfolded and they would have to guess what’s in the boxes.
When he texted me they are ready I took the boxes and come to the kitchen and put them in front of them and stood behind the camera.
“Okay you may open them” Matt said.
They started to pull stuff out.
“That’s bullshit it’s clearly Pepsi and popcorn” Chris said.
“Yes and that’s my own lip balm” Nick said annoyed.
“Okay how about this?” Matt took an ultrasound pictures and put into their hands.
“Piece of paper?” Chris said.
“No” Matt said and looked at me.
“Picture?” Nick said and showed it to the camera.
“Yes, it’s a picture” He nodded and smiled to the camera.
“Picture of us?” Chris asked and opened his can of Pepsi.
“No… but picture of someone that is in a room with us” Matt said.
“Oh my gosh you fucking freaking me out right now, what the fuck, are you a medium or what” Nick said an put the picture on the table.
“Okay… maybe just take your blindfolds off and Chris… you might want to wait with that fist sip” I said looking at them.
“I didn’t know you were here…” Nick said and started to undo the bandanna on his head.
I bit on my nails as I watched them taking those off. Then they looked at the boxes and I felt like I stopped breathing for a second.
“What the actual fuck? Is this some kind of prank?” Chris asked as his eyes widened.
“Oh my gosh are you kidding me?” Nick looked at me and stood up.
“Chris you owe me 1000 dollars… I knew it!” He hugged me tightly and I put my arms around him.
“Did you two bet on me being pregnant? What the hell?” I laughed.
My stress went away because how could I be stressed around them.
“I actually forgot that we did” Chris said and gave Matt a big hug.
“You guys… I don’t know what to say” Nick said pulling away from me.
“Well…. To be honest we don’t know either” I said and Matt only laughed.
“Yes… this feels really like a dream more than real life” Matt said looking at his brothers.
“Wait… are we first to know?” Chris asked.
“Of course you are… who else?” Matt looked at him and Nick went closer to them and they three shared a hug and than looked at me.
“Come here mama” Chris wiggled his eyebrows at me.
“Never, ever call me that again” I said seriously while coming into the hug.
They laugh and we stand like that for a minute or two.
“Okay I love you all but all three of you smell like three different colognes and I might throw up” I said stepping back.
This baby will be the luckiest baby in the whole world having them as a family.

The Good Captain.
Author’s Note: This is my version of what book 2 of Distant Shores should be like. Y’know the book 2 that we readers of Distant Shores rightfully deserved! One more thing: in this fanfic, the MC’s last name has been changed to Bennett but; in the game it’s Carter. I decided to change it from Carter to Bennett; because Bennett sounds better to me. Also; her original occupation has been changed as well.
***Rated: Mature 18+. Contains sexual content, nudity, some violence and strong language.
***Bolded and/or italicized words are conversations and thoughts of the characters.
***Characters: Captain Edward Mortemer (LI), Kyra Bennett (MC), Robert Finnegan (Main Antagonist), Charlie, Ginny, Jonas, Maggie, Samuel, Octavia, Henry, Axton, Adelia, Kendrick and Oliver Cochrane (Side Characters)
***Disclaimer: All character names (except MC) and/or some dialogues belong to Pixelberry.
Current Word Count: 2,784 words.
To make this chapter, a little more accurate; I’m timing this around winter 2019/early 2020.
Chapter 2: The Revelation…
As the sun sets; Captain Edward Mortemer gazes over the ocean and watches the colors blend into one another. She’s on his mind again. Her smile. Her eyes. The touch of her skin. He clenches his fists; in order to fight back the emotions and tears that were creeping up on him. She was just in his arms then she was gone.
He missed her. He longed for her. He wanted her back. He loved her.
“I knew I could find you here!”, a familiar voice called out to him. It was Charlie coming to check on him.
“Aye. I’m here.”, he replied.
“Thinking of the lass again?”, she asked.
“Always, Charlie. Always…”, he told her.
“She’s out there Edward. You’ll find her.”, she said reassuringly.
“Aye. I will find her. Wherever she is. I WILL find her.”, he responds. Charlie pats him on the back and leaves him to his thoughts.
“Kyra…wherever you are. Just know; I will not stop until I’ve found you. I will not give up until you’re in my arms again.”, he tells himself before making his way back to town.
She’d been gone for almost 3 1/2 months, at that point. Just vanished into thin air. And poor Edward; the man drove himself crazy, endlessly searching for her. He never got to tell her; what she truly meant to him. He never got to tell her; that he would move heaven and earth for her. He never got to say the words “I love you”. That’s what he wanted. To tell her, that he is MADLY in love with her. He had to find her. No matter where she was. He was GOING TO find her.
But for now, he had to shift his focus to this mysterious Captain Finnegan he’d been hearing about. Apparently this new captain and his crew; had been terrorizing many across the Caribbean. And always at night. This new captain sailed aboard the Dios Del Mar. He and his crew were effective and brutal. Leaving nothing behind; but terror and destruction.
They had even struck down the first of the Seven Lords of The Sea.
Whereas Edward and his crew sailed aboard The Jewel Of The Sea. It was slightly bigger and more agile of a ship than; The Revenge. It did the job he needed it to do.
By the time he reached the tavern; the sunset had turned to night but a ominous dark cloud started to form. He couldn’t put his finger on it but; after looking at the cloud for a brief time something didn’t sit right with him. An eerie feeling was in the air; and he and the crew were about to discover why.
After ordering pints for everyone; Edward settled into, what supposed to be a night of being with his crew. They were his family. Even though; Samuel and Octavia had crossed and mutinied against him. He forgave them. He welcomed them back into his life, his heart and his crew once again. They were all sitting around Kendrick, singing the shanties of old, drinking and laughing. It brought joy to his heart; to see the family he created together again.
That’s when thunder started to rumble; and the winds picked up. It sounded like a hurricane was brewing outside. But as Edward and his crew would discover; this was no ordinary storm. A violent wind blew into the tavern, dousing all the lamps. And then suddenly; they were reignited and when they reignited, a familiar figure stood before Edward and the crew.
“Hello everyone! What a time to be alive!”, he exclaimed.
No one could believe who it was they were seeing. It was Robert. He was alive. He had returned.
“What witchcraft is this?!”, Charlie asked. She was the first to shake herself of the initial shock.
“Ahhhh my dearest Charlie! Such a quick one, you are.”, he replied.
“You’re supposed to be dead! You were killed by the Admiral!”, Edward says to the man who was his former first mate and friend.
“And yet; here I stand before you, boy! As nimble as ever! And with my own crew to boot!”, he replied as he gestures to the crew behind him.
“You can’t be alive! You’d have to be a God to have survived.”, Edward said to him. His hand wrapped tightly around the hilt of his sword.
“I’m not a God my boy. Well; at least not yet.”, Robert casually replied.
“This is impossible!”, Edward exclaimed.
“You know, that’s funny. She said the same thing.”, he answered.
“What are you babbling about?”, Edward asks.
“Ohhh I think you know exactly what I’m referring to Edward. Or should I say; I think you know exactly who I’m referring to?”, he replies.
“Robert…”, Edward sneered. His jaw clenched tight.
Robert merely rolled his eyes.
“Kyra, my dear boy.”, he tells him. Edward froze in his place.
“You…you’ve seen her?!”, he asks.
“Ohhh yes! We had lovely little conversation in future. That’s how I got this!”, he says before producing the golden compass, “although, she might not be happy that I stole it from her.”
“If you did anything to harm her; I swear I will have your head!”, Edward growled as Charlie and Jonas restrained him.
“And there in lies your problem, boy. You’ve always let your emotions cloud your judgement!”, he replied.
Edward was livid. But, Robert once again just rolled his eyes.
“Calm down, boy! I never touched her!…Pearson did!”, he said with sly grin as he gestured to his first mate.
“You bastard!”, Edward hissed, clearly ready to pounce. He was going to kill Robert.
“Would you lot like to see her? That way Edward can finally calm down, about the girl he clearly loves.”, Robert asks the crew, clearly overlooking Edward’s fury. Most of the crew nodded their heads.
“Very well! Mari! Be a dear and show them the girl, will you?”, he commanded one of the women in his crew to do.
“Sí, mi capitán”, she replied before waving her hand, and producing a screen that gave everyone a view into the future. The tavern was mostly empty at that point; save for the two crews.
And there she was. She was alive and judging by the look on her face; clearly troubled. She was sitting down but he wasn’t quite sure what; but it looked like she was in some kind of room, surrounded by strange contraptions. Edward couldn’t believe what he saw. He thought he’d never see her again, but there she was. And although he was rightfully furious at Robert; he was thankful and his heart overjoyed to see her.
“Are you happy now?”, he asked, obviously annoyed at this point.
“When was this? Where was this?”, he replied with questions of his own.
“When? About a month ago. Where? A doctors office.”, he replied.
“Doctor?! Is she sick?”, Edward replies; clearly trying to hide the concern in his voice.
“Watch!”, Robert replied.
Just then the door opened.
“Good afternoon Miss Bennett! I’m Dr. Everett. I’m here to take good care of you.”, he said as he greeted her with a handshake.
“Thank you Dr. Everett.”, she replied sheepishly.
“I know you’re nervous Kyra, but I can assure you that I will do my very best; to offer you the best care possible.”, he tells her.
“I know…I’m just…I guess I’m still in shock.”, she replied.
“I can understand that. But as I said; I will do my very best; to offer you the best care.”, he says with a warm smile.
“Thank you again doctor. So; what do the results say? I can’t be that far along can I?”, she asks.
“You’re actually a lot farther along than you think, Miss Bennett. You’re currently at 11 1/2 weeks.”, he tells her. That was right on time with her timeline.
“Holy shit…”, she thought to herself before asking the doctor, “so, what happens now?”
“Well today, you’re scheduled for an ultrasound. We have to calculate what your due date will be.”, the doctor replies.
“Okay. I can…we can do that.”, she said.
“Excellent! Right this way!”, he says as he gestures for her to follow him.
“That’s enough for now Mari.”, he tells her. That’s when the screen vanishes.
“Happy now? She’s fine! Well…as fine as she can be; given her condition anyway.”, he tells everyone.
“I don’t understand. What condition she be in?”, Henry asks clearly confused.
Robert lets out an aggravated sigh.
“You lot never were all that bright. So, allow me to put it plainly: she’s with child. More specifically; she’s with his child.”, he replies, nodding towards a now very pale looking Edward.
“M-my child?”, he asks.
“Yes, my dear boy. She’s having your child. You’re not only a captain but soon; you’ll be a father as well. The doctor she went to see, helps new mothers give birth.”, he explains.
Edward was stunned into a dead silence. Kyra was having his child; and he wasn’t there with her. She was in the future and he was currently in the past.
“My God…”, he said still trying to process this new information.
“I’d order you a celebratory pint buuuuuut seeing as how the tavern is empty; I’ll just have to owe you one.”, Robert says to Edward.
“So, you’re doing all of this was to torture me?”, he asks Robert.
“No not at all, my dear boy! I’m only here to offer peace…and to get you and the crew to stand down.”, he replies.
“Stand down?! For what?!”, he asks Robert. That’s when he gave Edward and the crew, the rundown of the legends of Atlantis and Poseidon’s Trident. He told them how he was going to find the the trident, and use it to become the greatest pirate of all.
“Yer mad Robert! Absolutely mad!”, Maggie exclaimed.
“Why thank you Maggie darlin’!”, he replies with an icy smile.
“Captain Robert sir, I’d like to point out that; we all know the legends. And we all know that; the trident as well as Atlantis can never be found. Sir.”, Samuel quipped.
“That’s why I intend to be the one to find it. To prove you all and the world wrong. The trident will be mine!”, he proclaimed.
“Robert what the hell happened to you?! You used to be brave and smart and strong! And now? Yer babbling about old legends that ain’t true!”, Charlie says to him. That’s when he shows them the first of the seven key fragments. “But it is true! As you can plainly see! Once I have all the key fragments; it will only be a matter of time!”
“We will stop ye!”, Ginny yelled at him.
“My little one! Ever the fierce protector you are!”, he replies sarcastically as she sticks her tongue out at him.
“Enough! This madness ends now!”, Edward growls as he draws his weapon. And when he draws his; Robert’s crew draws theirs as does Edward’s crew. All ready to strike at one another.
“Don’t be daft boy! Think of your child! What will Kyra think if she were to find out that you died being foolish?”, he asks him.
“You blackguard! You won’t touch her!”, he sneered back.
“You’re right. I won’t. But if you die here; neither will you.”, he tells him.
“What are you talking about?”, Edward asks.
“Callie hand the boy the amulet, won’t you?”, he tells one of the women with him. With a flick of her wrist; she tosses him an ornate amulet. “This is the amulet of Atlas. It’s one of three amulets. I have the amulet of Orion. Can you guess who has the other one, my boy?”
“Kyra has the other one?”, he answers.
“Aye. That she does. I gave it to her. They give you the power to transport you to the future and to the past. Consider them as presents from me and my crew; to you and her on the impending birth of your child.”, he tells Edward.
“You’re lying!”, Edward told him.
“Mari! Show him please?”, he commanded. Once again the screen into the future was up. “This was ohhh…about a week ago.”
There Kyra was sitting at her desk; clearly showing the biggest sign of pregnancy: her stomach had grown. She was going through stacks and stacks of papers, scrolls and books in both English and Ancient Greek. She was trying to figure out two things. 1.) how Robert got his hands on that key fragment; and 2.) the legends of Atlantis and Poseidon.
That’s when a noise startled her from her studying. She knew that it wasn’t good.
“Not again. Not now.”, she muttered. She knew not to leave her office; but she had to find out what that noise was.
And there stood Robert and his evil company. “Why Kyra! You’re pregnant and glowing! How are you doing dear? Are you alright? I hope the last time we spoke; didn’t leave a bad taste in your mouth.”
“Go fuck yourself!”, she snapped at him.
“Quaint as ever I see. Well you’ll be happy to know that; I’m not here to steal from you. I’m here to give a gift, actually!”, he explained.
“Thanks but no thanks! If it’s coming from you; it’s a curse not a gift!”, she replied.
“So, you’re going to be defiant, eh?”, he asks her.
“I think the term you’re looking for is stubborn; and yes I am!”, she said to him. Although she’s pregnant; and clearly in danger, she was not about to back down. She then asked him, “What do you want?”
“Callie? Be a dear, won’t you?”, he commands her. And just like with Edward she tosses Kyra an amulet. “Now pay attention girl! That is the amulet of Triton. It’s one of three. The others are the amulet of Orion and the amulet of Atlas. I have Orion. All of them, give you the power to travel back and forth in time. To use it; think of the place and time you want to be or the person you want to be with; and the amulet will do the rest. I discovered that in my studies; as I’m sure you will in yours.”
“Why would you give me this?”, she asked him.
“Don’t you think Edward should know, that you’re pregnant with his child?”, he replied with a question of his own. “I mean unless of course you’ve already told him…ohhhh wait!”
His crew snickered behind him. She stood there fuming.
“You really are a sick bastard! You do know that, right?”, she told him.
He merely shrugged. “You may see it that way; but to answer your previous question; I’m giving you that amulet for the same reason, I’m going to give the other one to your beau: to get you both to stay out of my way!”
“So this is a threat, is that what I’m to understand?”, she asked.
“Think of it as a promise my darling girl. A promise that if you get involved; you, your child, your dearly beloved and even the crew might not survive.”, he sneered at her.
“I will stop you! And even if I don’t; I know that Edward and the crew will!”, she snapped at him.
“It’s adorable to see how loyal you are to them. And I’m sure when I see them, they’ll be just as loyal to you. Well I don’t want to keep you; I know you’re busy studying, so we’ll see ourselves out. Goodbye for now! And ohhhh! At least, think about my promise to you?”, he says to her; before disappearing into the shadows with his crew.
“What am I gonna do?”, she says to herself while clutching the amulet to her chest and holding her very growing belly.
When screen vanishes again; Edward is furious. “You dare threaten her and my child?!”
“I’ll tell you; as I told her. It’s a promise not a threat. As long as you and the others stand down; no one will be hurt. But if you get involved no one will survive!”, he says to him. Clearly annoyed by the defiance he then asks, “let me guess my boy, you’re going to stop me?”
“We all will!”, Charlie growls. Edward was poised and ready to slice Robert’s head clean off his shoulders.
“I was hoping to avoid this but; so be it! If you plan to stop me you might want to do it fast…like right now!”, he says before a lightning strike hits the tavern; setting it on fire and trapping the crew inside. Edward had to get out. He had to see her. The amulet was his only hope…
Stay tuned for chapter 3! 😘

It finally happened, you were pregnant. After trying for over six months, you were able to tell your husband, Jake, the good news. But you couldn't just tell him, it had to be grand, that was for sure. At the perfect time was just around the corner:
The following day you were invited over to Maggie and Peter's place, your sister-and brother-in-law, for dinner. A few hours in advance, you looked up some cute ideas for announcing a pregnancy and found just the right one.
On the way, the nervousness started to build up and you let it show by picking at your nail polish, making your husband in the driver seat notice, "Are you alright?", he asked, looking over and seeing your chipped nails.
You quickly looked up at his side profile, "Yeah, sure. Why?", you tried acting oblivious. He stopped at a red light and grabbed on of your hands, "Well, you did your nails just about an hour ago and now you're ruining them again?", he wondered with a chuckle. You copied his action and started smiling while thinking about a good lie, "I don't like the colour."
"Alright", with a smile he dropped the subject, knowing how indecisive you can be.
Soon enough you reached the beautiful brownstone house after looking for a parking space for a good fifteen minutes. You went through the plan the entire drive and even standing in front of the black door.
"Everything's gonna be alright", you kept repeating in your head.
Jake knocked on the door that Peter opened only seconds later with a welcoming smile on his face,
"Hey, guys! How are you?", he laughed and hugged the both of you tightly. Jake and Peter quickly enveloped in small talk as Maggie appeared from the kitchen to greet you with open arms.
You started talking about the recent renovations and DIY projects you started in your guys' new house,
"How's the house?", your sister-in-law wanted to know.
"I'd say not too bad but I'm sure your brother would call it 'one heck of a mess'", you laughed.
You followed Maggie into the kitchen to help her with the food she had prepared while the men made themselves comfortable in the living room.
"I'm currently working on the master bathroom -it's a work in progress-"
You got interrupted by two pairs of feet running towards you, attacking your legs,
"Hi auntie (Y/N)!", your nieces shouted in sync, clearly excited to see you. You crouched down to hug them properly, suddenly getting butterflies in your stomach when you remembered what you had planned.
The girls left to play a little bit more - the conversation about the house went on for about thirty more minutes before Maggie called everyone to the dining table. As you went to place the big bowl filled with a salad you made, Jake noticed your shaking fingers and grabbed your hands gently,
"Everything ok, (Y/N)?", he asked concerned.
You snatched your hand back and nodded quickly, "Yeah, yeah, my hands have been kinda shaky... I don't know why", you brushed it off, hoping he didn't think much more of it.
Everyone gathered around and started placing food on their plates. Just before the eating started, you called for a photo,
"Wait, guys, I want to get a picture!" You shot up from your seat to stand in front of the table, trying to find the perfect angle for the photo - only that it wasn't a picture you were taking... but a video.
"Everybody say: cheese!", you said, watching as everyone smiled brightly after following your orders, "and another one, say:... congrats!", you kept on acting, "and the last one. Say: Jake's gonna be a dad!"
"Jake's gonna be a dad!", your nieces shouted whereas the adults gave you wide-eyed looks. Maggie's lips parted and formed the brightest smile you had ever seen on her, Peter's mouth hung open, and Jake just looked at you.
"What?", his voice was barely hearable, only a whisper - tears started forming in his eyes. You could feel your eyes starting to water too. Gloria and Ramona looked around slightly confused, slowly realising what was happening.
Your husband stood up from his seat to walk over to you,
"Are you serious?", he still couldn't believe it. You didn't trust your voice enough to actually speak, so you just nodded with a wide smile.
"Oh my god...", and with those words, he grabbed your face with his big hands and kissed you deeply. You put your hand on top of his while moving your lips slowly too. Gloria let some puke noises escape from her mouth, making you separate and laugh.
Jake's sister was by your side within seconds to embrace you tightly, congratulating you, quickly followed by Peter who also complimented your idea on how to announce it.
"Oh yeah", Maggie agreed, "how did you get the idea? That was genius!"
You just shrugged and laughed at their kindness. Your significant other right next to you didn't leave your side, planting multiple kisses all over your face, making you giggle.
Turning your face to look at Jake, you could see the few tears that had already left his eyes and made their way down his cheek - you kissed it gently. The little girls were now next to you, poking each one of your guys' legs,
"Are we going to have a cousin?", Ramona asked carefully.
You crouched down and put your left hand on her upper arm to caress it,
"Yes, sweetie", you smiled.
"There's a baby in you?", the younger girl wanted to know.
You nodded and put your hand on your abdomen, " It's in my belly" before the tears were able to escape, you wiped your eyes.
You had forgotten about the phone in your hand and quickly realised that you were still recording, so you ended the video.
--- Three Months Later ---
Lying on the examination bed with your shirt pulled up slightly, showing your growing bump, with Jake on a chair to your left, you could feel your heartbeat quickening. He was holding your hand, gently caressing it, trying to not only calm you down but himself as well.
You saw his leg twitching and smiled, "You're making nervous."
His head turned to you quickly, "Sorry", he apologized.
"It's cute", you smiled kindly. He shook his head and laughed as an answer.
Your doctor entered, "Good morning Misses Gyllenhaal", and shook your hand before leaning over to greet your husband," Mister Gyllenhaal."
She took a seat to get ready: put on gloves and turned the monitor on.
"So, today we're gonna have a look at what we're expecting, right?", with a wide smile - kind as always. You nodded.
The older woman grabbed the gel from a cabinet underneath the monitor and opened it, "You know already know it but I'm gonna say it again: This will probably be a bit cold", "Yeah, I know", you smiled.
She squeezed out a generous amount of it on your abdominal region and started spreading it with the ultrasound machine that looked like a handle. You looked at the TV in front of you, which was connected to hers, so you could see everything she saw. The doctor was quiet for a bit, making Jake start to worry slightly, especially after seeing her frowning eyebrows, "Everything alright, doctor?"
She took a deep breath and started explaining, "Well... I think you're in for a surprise." You turned to Jake, only to see him looking back at you with the same confusion written all over his face.
"So... here", a little arrow appeared on the screen, "here you see your baby boy."
Your husband's hands flew to his mouth in happiness as he looked at you with an 'I told you so'-look since he was certain you were going to have a boy ever since he found out you were pregnant.
"And then", she continued, confusing you, "here, you also have a little baby girl...", with a smile she looked at you.
"Twins?", you couldn't believe it, "We're... we're having twins?"
Before you were able to continue, you felt Jake grabbing your hand tightly with both of his. He placed his head on top of your intertwined hands.
"Yes, the girl's quite small, I guess that's why we haven't been able to see her. Congratulations.", the woman said before explaining that she would print out the ultrasound pictures, therefore she had to leave the room for a short bit.
"Twins, (Y/N)", Jake's voice was as quiet as when you told him you were expecting. You nodded with tears already rolling down your face.
"Yeah...", if one word could describe the look on your face it would be love, pure love because that's all that you were feeling at that very moment. Love for the man by your side that has been there for you for five years and, you know, will be there for you till you take your last breath. Love for the gift of life that you were experiencing. And love for not the one but the two human beings growing inside of you. You suddenly felt a strong sense of protection you hadn't felt before, now that you know it was three people that you were going to have to take care of - Jake was the same.
He was going to have a baby boy AND a baby girl. Two small humans at once that he was already loving more than he could ever imagine. His life properly started when he met you and now it felt pretty much complete. This was the start of a journey with a lot of ups and downs, some of which he knew were coming and some of which he wasn't prepared for.
--- Five Months Later ---
Exhausted. That was the word to describe your state. Exhausted but happy - more than just happy. You were lying in the hospital bed, with your healthy firstborn placed on your naked chest for some bonding time. Your husband was sitting in a chair to your right that was now much more comfortable than during the night when he tried to sleep in it. He had been able to dry his eyes after absolutely losing it and breaking down in happiness as soon as he saw the firstborn.
"I'm so happy he's not the baby boy", he nodded over to the little one you were holding, "once he's older he's gonna be happy too."
You laughed, thinking it's cute how much he had wanted the boy to come to the world first, which he did by exactly thirteen minutes, so his baby girl could have an older brother AND an overprotective dad.
"He's gonna be my baby boy", you cuddled him, "forever."
Jake stood up carefully, trying to not disturb the sleeping princess in his arms, to come over to your bed. "I'm so proud of you, babe", he kissed the top of your head. Suddenly the boy in your arms started to turn and opened his mouth to let out a cry. As soon as a whining sound escaped his mouth, his sister started to cry out loud too.
"Jesus, they're already competing about who can cry the loudest", he laughed about the situation. While the both of you tried to soothe the crying newborns, it was as if the future lying ahead of you was flashing right before your eyes. All the cries and the laughs you would be sharing with the man in front of you and the two bundle of joys - maybe some more.
Your thoughts got interrupted by knocks on the door followed by your mother- and sister-in-law slowly entering. As soon as Naomi saw her son, that she birthed and raised into the gentleman that he now is, with his own daughter in his arms, tears started streaming out of her eyes and her hands flew to her mouth. Maggie came right over to you, excited to meet her nephew. Let's start this new chapter of life.

When You Grow Up (III)
Summary: As Y/N’s wonderful day comes to an end, Tom seems to ruin it by asking questions that need to be answered.
Length: 2,259
Series Masterlist
A/N I’ve decided that this is going to be a series!!
                                    --------------------------------------
When you first read the message Tom sent, you simply turned your phone on silent, rolled over and tried to go back to bed. Tried is the key word. You wanted to answer him in the morning when you are well rested and are thinking clearly, but your body had other plans.
After a few minutes of tossing and turning, trying to get comfortable again you groan out of frustration and pick up your phone. As you type away you delete, rewrite, delete and rewrite the message over and over again. You finally send a text back, deciding to keep it short.
Y/N: Marv’s diner tomorrow (technically today) at 1?
Almost instantly Tom responds.
Tom: See you then :)
His quick response makes you wonder what is he still doing up at this hour? Then it dawned on you, he was partying and he was drunk texting you.You grumble as you slam your phone down annoyed, that your ex woke you up from texts he won’t even remember in the morning.
                                  ----------------------------------------
“Where the hell are we going?” You ask your sister, Faye as you waddle down a long hallway in a hotel near your house. Faye woke you up early and decided to take you out on a girls day. The first thing you two did was go out for breakfast at your favourite restaurant. Then the both of you guys got your nails done, you opting for a shade of light blue. And now you were in a hotel you’ve never stayed at following your older sister with confusion evident on your face.
“You’ll see in a sec.” She says stopping in front of two wooden doors with a smile on her face.
“Well go in.” Faye says looking at you expectantly once you catch up to her.
You follow her orders and as you open the door family and friends pop up yelling, “Surprise!”
You jump slightly in your spot as your right hand flies up to your heart, a shocked smile forming on your face. You were at a loss for words as you look around, Faye threw you a surprise baby shower.
As the party commences you stand in the same spot, shock still on your face as your mom and dad walk up to you and your sister. “Surprise!” Your mother says, placing a blue flower crown on your head.
You couldn’t believe this was happening. Ever since you were little you dreamed of what your future baby shower would be like, but now that you’re a single mother you decided that spending money on a baby shower wasn’t worth it, when you could be buying Alexander necessities. Your family knew you were secretly disappointed at the fact you weren’t having one so everyone secretly chipped in to fulfil your dream.
You and your parents exchange hugs before you start to walk around the medium sized conference room, greeting friends and family. As you walk around music starts to play and you marvel at the decorations around the room.
When you first walk into the room the first thing you see is a table set up at the wall directly in front of you. On this table are two flower arrangements at each end and the table itself is filled with cake and sweets. Above the table hangs a white stuffed bear holding onto a bunch of blue balloons to make it look like it is floating away. The second table on the other side of the room is filled with refreshments, snacks and games. The third, and last table is stacked with presents on top. There’s blue balloons scattered around the room and a make shift photo booth area could be found hidden in a corner.
To your dismay the party flew by in what seemed to be minutes with all of the fun you had. This is the most carefree you’ve felt in awhile and if you were honest it felt refreshing. You make sure to say goodbye to all of the remaining guests before leaving yourself.
Faye and your parents told you to go home, that they will see you there in an hour or so after cleaning everything up and putting the gifts in their car. You wanted to stay and help after all, they just threw you a baby shower, it’s the least you could do. However, they persisted for you to get some rest.
So currently you found yourself turning into the driveway of your childhood home. Once you shut off the car you remain seated for a few minutes as you lean your head against the steering wheel of Faye’s car with a giant smile on your face.
As you finally get out of your sisters car you clutch your prominent stomach and hum while you walk up the stairs of the porch, looking at your belly. Once your eyes look up they instantly land on a figure sitting on the wooden bench your dad built.
Your smile instantly disappears and you can feel your happy mood diminish when your brain registers who’s sitting on your porch.
It was Tom.
He didn’t look happy as he looked up at you from his spot. “W-what are you doing here?”
“Well I was at Marv’s diner waiting for you, but you never showed up.”
Your eyes widen at the statement Tom made. “Tom I thought you were drunk when you texted me.” You say with a sigh.
“I wasn’t drunk Y/N.” He says while standing up. “What made you think I was?”
You roll your eyes at the man in front of you. “I don’t know, maybe the fact partying and getting drunk is your favourite past time.”
“I was at a party, but I wasn’t drunk.”
“How am I supposed to believe that?” You ask with a raised eyebrow and a hand on your hip.
“Because after Chelsea and I saw you yesterday I realised how much I miss you.”
You could feel your heart wince at this. This can’t be happening, after months of getting used to being on your own he has the audacity to come back and say he misses you? After all of the emotional and mental turmoil he put you through?
“You should’ve thought about that before telling me to abort Alexander and leaving.” You say with venom laced in your voice. Tom was clearly hurt at what you said, but you didn’t care after all, does he think everything is going to go back to normal just by saying he misses you? He has a girlfriend for fucks sake.
As Tom stands in the same spot you turn towards the front door and insert the key and open it. While you take a step to walk into the house Tom grabs your hand and says, “Wait!” A little too loudly, making you have deja vu to Target.
You turn around to look at him, but you look down at your connected hands, trying your best to ignore the butterflies in your stomach. Tom notices you staring and instantly disconnects his hand from yours.
“Can we please talk?” At first you were going to say no, but then you thought about the precious baby boy growing inside of you. Maybe this chat can benefit him.
“Fine, but you can’t stay long.” You say walking into the air conditioned house with Tom following behind you. Both of you take off your shoes and the brunette follows you up the stairs towards your bedroom.
When you guys walk into your room Tom is taken aback at how much it’s changed. While you guys were semi-dating Tom came over to your family home numerous times, especially since it was so close to your apartment on campus.
Once you reach your room Tom watches as you grab a few articles of clothing from your dresser. “I’ll be right back I’m going to get changed.” You say before exiting your room and walking down the hall to the washroom. As you change Tom takes this time to look around your new and improved room. He notices how you got rid of most of your teenage stuff and replaced it with items that were appropriate for your age.
Instead, of keeping the purple walls from your teenage years your room is now beige. You got rid of your bean bag chairs and replaced it with a grey rocking chair. Tom noticed how you moved your dresser to the other side of the room and on top is a changing pad. Beside the dresser is a small bookshelf filled with books from your childhood and framed pictures of Alexander from ultrasounds. On your bed is a giant pillow that Tom thought was a person at first, but in reality it was your pregnancy pillow. The last thing Tom’s eyes land on is the light brown crib beside your bed.
As Tom inspects your room he can’t help, but to pick up one of the framed ultrasound pictures and walk over to the crib. He didn’t realise he was doing these actions it came naturally.
He looked down at the black and white picture in awe before looking into the crib and seeing stuffed animals along one side and a fuzzy blue blanket. He looks up and see’s a baby mobile hanging above the crib. Tom reaches up and touches one of the animals attached to the mobile.
He could already tell his son was already loved so much. So why didn’t he love Alexander the same way as you did with the same intensity when you told him?
“What are you doing?” You ask as you stand in the doorway of your room.
Tom instantly turns around feeling adrenaline course through his veins as he didn’t expect you to catch him. “I-I don’t know.” He chokes out as he takes in your appearance. You took your make up off from earlier, had your hair up in a messy bun and were wearing black leggings with an over sized shirt with the name of your college on it. Despite, the shirt being oversized your stomach still stood out. Tom loved it when you dressed like this and seeing you wear this particular outfit is making the brown eyed boy be reminded to when you two were together.
You simply shrug your shoulders while putting your dirty clothes in a hamper and walking over to your bed. Tom puts the picture back where he found it as you do this. You climb into your bed, getting under the covers, while leaning against the headboard of your bed. You simply nod over to the rocking chair in the corner and Tom silently understands what you mean.
After Tom sits down in the grey chair you speak, “So what do you want to talk about?”
“I think I want to be in Alexander’s life.” He breathes out.
“You think or you know?”
“I-I know. I know I want to be in his life.” Tom stutters looking around the room before finally meeting your gaze.
“Why?” You ask as you fold your arms over your chest.
“What do you mean why?”
You sigh. “Well there has to be a reason right? Just a few months ago you were adamant you didn’t want him and now all of a sudden you do. What changed?”
It took Tom a few minutes to gather his thoughts before he spoke, “When you first told me I was scared and I’m sure you were too, but at that moment in time I didn’t even know if I liked kids, let alone wanted them and then I find out you’re pregnant with my child. I was so shocked and scared that I acted immaturely and said some really stupid things Y/N and I’m really sorry for that.” He pauses looking at you in the eyes and you could tell how he truly sorry he was.
“I’d be lying if I said every day away from you I didn’t think about you because I did. I thought about you and the baby all of the time.” Tom’s statement causes a blush to creep onto your face and you hope that he doesn’t notice it. “I wanted to reach out to you I really did, but I was scared that you’d shut me out. And to be honest after our last talk I thought it would be impossible to fix things.” Tom says looking at your hands caressing your stomach then back up to your eyes.
“But then Chelsea and I saw you at Target and once my eyes landed on your bump I felt ashamed. Ashamed for what I put you through, ashamed for letting you go through this pregnancy alone, ashamed that I missed watching Alexander grow along with your belly. So please Y/N can we do this parenting thing together? I’ve already missed so much please don’t let me miss anything else.” He asks - begs you.
You sigh as you gather your thoughts. You know you can’t let your emotions get in the way for what’s best for your son, but a part of you is scared that he’ll leave again. No matter what your answer is it won’t fix everything, you know that for sure, but if it will have a positive impact on Zander then you’re all for it. However, you will never forget what Tom did.
You chew on your bottom lip knowing what you’re about to say will make or break yours and Alexander’s future. “Yes Tom we can do this parenting thing together.”

Deidra laid on the bed as tears rolled down her face, creating wet marks on the grey bed sheets. She attempted to wipe them away but more tears just took their place within seconds.
"babe it's not that bad" keanu said as he stood at the doorway, watching his wife with his soft brown eyes.
Keanu and Deidra had been married for a little under 2 years now. They had met when Deidra accidentally spilled her coffee all over him as she rushed out a coffee shop one cold December 5 years ago. She apologised profusely and he had offered to get her another coffee which eventually accepted despite refusing at first since it was her own fault. But being the true gentleman that Keanu was, he refused to take no for an answer.
They hit it off immediately as they talked about anything and everything. Eventually, they began to date after a few months of being friends. Her life was turned upside down once she started dating the celebrity, but it was certainly for the best and since he kept his life pretty private from the world, they weren't bothered that much. In fact, no one really knew that they were together and it was only when wedding pictures emerged of them did the world find out.
"what do you mean" Deidra sobbed as she sat up "this was my last pair of jeans and they don't fit me anymore. I'm so fat" she held her face in her hands as the tears continued and john just laughed at his wife as he walked over to her. "Deidra, you are not fat. You're just pregnant". Yes it was true. Deidra was 6 months pregnant with their first child. When she first found out, she didn't know how to react. Should she have cried? Laughed? Ran away? She wanted to do them all. She wasn't ready to be a mother and she was scared to tell Keanu. Scared he wouldn't want to have a child.
After a week of contemplating her options, she soon decided on just blurting it out over dinner on a Sunday night. Keanu was ecstatic and he made a promise to her that night. She could still picture the scene clearly in her head. How he had abruptly stood from the dinner table and made his way over to her, eloping her in a hug that made her feel safe and secure as he told her his promise.
Deidra. I love you with all my heart and soul. I promise i will not let anything or anyone hurt you or our baby. I will do everything in my power to keep you two happy. I promise"
Deidra sat up and faced keanu as he smiled at her "there's my beautiful girl" he said as he helped pull her up, her jeans still undone around her giant belly. Keanu looked down at her belly and placed his hands on either side of her enlarged stomach as he talked to the baby. "right little missy. You need to hurry up and join us because you're upsetting your mum and if I'm honest. I can't wait to hold you" he placed a soft kiss on the bump and this caused Deidra to smile. She couldn't have hoped for a better man to start a family with. Keanu stood up and placed a kiss on Deidra's lips. "I'm so scared" she whispered as she looked down at the bump and keanu just smiled. "so am i. But we will get through it" he grabbed her hands "together". The pair continued to stand there for a few more minutes before Deidra stepped back. "ok we need to get ready. The doctor's appointment is in half an hour. Do you have some joggers I can borrow for today and I'll just buy some maternity jeans when we're out" she began to step out of jeans whilst holding onto Keanu for support. "yeah i have some old ones that are a bit too small." he smiled softly as he watched the love of his live move around the room.
Soon enough, Deidra was laid on a hospital bed whilst a nurse conducted an ultrasound. moving the small device Deidra's belly, the baby became clear and Keanu gripped onto her hand not believing any of this was real. The nurse smiled and turned to the pair "so it's definitely a girl and she's perfectly healthy. At least now you can start buying some clothes and toys" she said as she began to clean Deidra's stomach. "believe me she will be spoiled just like her mother" keanu joked earning himself a small hit from his wife and the nurse just smiled fondly at the perfect domestic scene in front of her.
Upon leaving the hospital, Deidra was finally beginning to feel the excitement of having a baby. She wanted nothing more than to just hold her baby in her arms and have keanu sat next to her. "lets go baby shopping" Deidra said suddenly as the pair walked down the stairs and keanu smiled "I thought you would never ask" he kissed her on the cheek and they began to make their way to the mall.
A few hours later and Deidra stood in the spare room which would soon be turned into a nursery. She watched on as keanu brought in box after box of things the baby would need. Coat, baby changing station, wardrobe, and toys. "let me help" she pleaded as she went to pick up a small box and keanu stopped her "no let me do it. I don't want you hurting yourself" keanu took the box out of her hands and Deidra gave him an annoyed look. "keanu, im pregnant not dying" keanu laughed knowing how stubborn his wife could be. He turned to face her "fine, you can bring in the light stuff" he pointed to a few bags filled with teddies and clothes. She smiled knowing she had him wrapped around her little finger "thank you" she smiled, slapping his ass as she walked past him. Keanu stared at her before laughing at her actions, soon returning to the task of building the furniture.
Several hours later and the two were in bed. It was only 10pm but Deidra could barely keep her eyes open. Slowly closing her eyes, sleep consumed her as she took advantage of the babies stillness inside her. Ever since she hit the 5 month mark and began to move inside, she was finding it hard to sleep since the baby gave her either terrible heartburn or laid on her bladder, making her want to pee every 10 minutes. Tonight was no acception, within 2 hours of sleep she was suddenly awoken by the urge to pee. Sighing she sat up in bed, looking at keanu she couldn't help but smile. He held onto her stomach protectively with a small smile on his face as he slept. Slowly shifting away from him, she made her way to the toilet.
"you are not making this easy for me sweety" she whispered to the bump as she made her way out of the bathroom and to the hallway. After peeing, she no longer felt tired and decided she would go make something to eat instead. The second she made her way to the landing and placed her hand on the banister, she froze. A noise came from downstairs, paper rustling. At first she thought it was her imagination but her fear was soon verified as she saw a shadow being cast across the floor. Quietly she turned and bolted as fast as she could to her bedroom. "keanu" she whisper shouted as she entered the bedroom closing the door behind her. She moved to his side and shook his violently. Keanu jumped up, shocked to see Deidra stood over him. "what is it? Is it the baby? Are you ok?" he asked worriedly as he stood. She shook her head and shushed him "no I'm fine. I heard something downstairs, i think someone broke in" keanu stood up and pushed Deidra to the bathroom as he handed her a phone. "lock yourself in there and call the police. I'll go and check it out ok?" y/n shook her head. "nonono what if they hurt you. Please stay here with me and we can just call the police" he smiled at her "Deidra. I'll be fine." she knew it was stupid to try and argue with him and so just nodded, walking into the bathroom she locked the door and rang the police. After telling the 999 operator the emergency, she sat on the toilet listening to hear is she could hear noise from downstairs. It felt like hours and she soon grew inpatient. She crept towards the door and placed her ear against it trying to see if it would help. A loud knock came from the otherside causing her to jump back and hold onto the counter top. She held her breath, not knowing who was behind the door. "Deidra it's me. The police are here you can come out" keanu's voice broke the silence, Deidra released the breath she was holding as she unlocked the door and pulled it open. She grabbed onto him pulling him into a hug and he kissed her head. "it's ok. There was nothing. I checked and there was no one. The police are going to do a quick sweep to double check but it's ok." he rubbed her head as he held onto her. He may have put on a brave face for Deidra, but on the inside he was terrified. Terrified that Deidra and the baby could have been hurt.
He sighed and pulled her back to bed. "Come on let's get you back to bed, i'll handle the police".
As Deidra climbed into bed, she watched as kenau walked downstairs and could hear the faint mumbling of his voice talking to the cops. As she sat back, she couldn't help but feel uneasy. She felt as if she was being watched. She grabbed onto her stomach and sighed. She was just being paranoid or so she thought.

Giving in Ch. 6
SO! My original post of this chapter wasn’t linking so I deleted it and hopefully it works now.
There is some sensitive information in this chapter and there will be a trigger warning before it starts.
_________________________________
It had been a few weeks since Freddie and I went to the doctor. I had been talking to Auston some more lately. We weren't official but I didn’t want to make the first move. He was aware of the baby and was super supportive and even put one of the sonograms in his cars visor. Auston and I were going to meet for lunch and then I had another doctors appointment. I was doing my hair when I heard my phone ding. I walked over to my bed and grabbed my phone and saw I had a text from Auston.
From Matts : I’ll pick you up so you don’t have to drive
To Matts : I have an appointment after but thank you though
From Matts : Freddie asked me to go with you he said something came up.
To Matts : Oh okay, see you soon
I threw my hair up into a messy ponytail and grabbed my purse and walked into the kitchen. I was putting on my shoes when there was a knock on the door. I grabbed my jacket and walked over and opened the door to see Auston standing on the other side.
“Hi” I smiled as he pulled me in for a hug.
“You ready?” he asked as he took my hand in his own.
“Of course”
When we had eaten lunch and were talking about the upcoming season. I looked down to my phone to see Freddie had texted me apologizing for missing my doctors appointment. When I looked back up Auston was already looking at me. I sent him a smile but before I could say anything he started talking.
“I want to be official, Hazy”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I mean we pretty much are but now we have a label”
“Well, boyfriend. We have an appointment to get to” I smiled

Hazy_bennn: Now it’s officially my flannel
I was laying down on the table waiting for the doctor to walk in. Auston was sitting down in the chair beside the bed looking at a magazine. The doctor walked in and sat down across from Auston and I.
“Hi Hazy, so before we start. Have you made your decision on what you plan on doing with the baby?”
“I’m going to do adoption… Closed preferably” I said looking over at Auston.
“Okay well, I can get you that paperwork before you leave, but let’s get started”
**TRIGGER WARNING**
She put the jelly on my stomach and started looking the baby. I looked over at Auston when the doctor made a ‘humph’ sound.
“Is everything okay?” I asked looking back towards her.
“Uh not sure. Remember at your first appointment when I told you that your hormones are low and that it can cause miscarriages?”
“Uh yeah” I answered nervously. Auston grabbed my hands and rubbed his thumbs along the back of my hand.
“Well, I need to do blood work to confirm but sadly I can’t find a heartbeat” she said putting the wand of the ultrasound machine back.
“What do you mean?” I asked feeling my heart break.
“I couldn’t find a heartbeat, but that doesn’t mean anything for positive. I’m going to do some blood work and that will give us a for sure answer” she walked out to get the supplies for the blood work leaving just Auston and I in the room. I laid my head back looking at the ceiling feeling tears start to fall down my cheeks.
“Hey, it’ll be okay. Look at it this way. Maybe it isn’t the right time, you can work for the Ice Girls and then you don’t have to explain anything to Tyler” Auston muttered standing up and rubbing my shoulder. The doctor came in a took my blood and told me to go sit in the waiting room till they got the results back.
About thirty minutes later we were called back again. We got brought to a smaller room that didn’t have a bed and only had a few chairs. We waited for a few more minutes till the doctor walked in.
“So, Hazy we went over the results from your blood work. And I’m sorry but… you lost the baby” she said handing me some papers titled ‘How to handle miscarriage’. I felt my heartbreak and there were tears falling down my cheeks. I felt Auston put his arm around my shoulders and pull me into him.
“If you have any other questions feel free to call me. You’re welcome to stay in here for as long as you need” the doctor said walking out and closing the door behind her. As soon as the door closed I felt myself start crying harder. Auston pulled me into him letting me cry on his shoulder.
“It’ll be okay, Hazy. You’ll get through this” he muttered into my hair.
TIME SKIP
1 MONTH
We were about two full weeks into the season and tonight the Stars were here in Toronto. I hadn’t talked to Jamie very much lately because I had been pretty busy. I had started therapy to help me cope with the miscarriage and was practicing with the Ice Girls.
I was getting ready to leave since the game started in a few hours. I walked into the kitchen and saw a note on the table.
Hazy,
I know Jamie and Tyler will be here tonight so if you don’t want to see them just text me before the game starts and we can say we have plans.
Talk to you after the game,
Freddie.
I smiled to myself and grabbed my phone to text him.
To Fredex same day delivery: Thank you for the note and for offering to hide me from my brother . After the game I’m stopping at home to change but then I’m going over to Austons. Love you bunches. Don’t let them win

The game was about to start and all of us girls were standing down by the entrance to the ice. I looked over towards the benches and saw that Tyler was already looking at me. I rolled my eyes and looked back out at the ice when the lights dimmed. I looked up towards the jumbotron and saw that one of the youtube videos the Leaf’s were going to post was going live right now and they were going to show it right now. I zoned out till I felt one of the girls hit my arm. I looked over to her and saw her point towards the jumbotron. I looked up and saw that on the screen was a video of Auston driving his car was showing. I felt my stomach drop when I saw that you could clearly see the sonogram picture.
The Leafs had won the game 5-4 but I had left as soon as the game was over so I could try to avoid Jamie and Tyler. I was in my room packing my bag for Austons when I heard Freddie walk in the apartment. I grabbed my bag and walked into the living room to see him looking in the fridge.
“There’s some left over pizza on the bottom shelf if you want it” I said grabbing a water bottle and walking back to the table to grab my bag. “I’m going to head out, I’ll be back sometime tomorrow” I said grabbing my keys. I was almost at the door when someone knocked on the door. I froze in my spot before quietly walking to the door to look out of the peephole.
“Oh my god Freddie, it’s Jamie and Tyler” I whispered as I backed away from the door. Freddie pushed me back into the kitchen so you couldn’t see me from the door and answered it.
“Hello?”
“Is Hazy here?”
“Nope, she was gone when I got home, sorry”
“Are those her shoes?” I heard Jamie ask. I looked down towards Freddies feet and saw my slides sitting on the ground. I rolled my eyes and groaned before walking towards the door. I tapped Freddie on the shoulder to signal that I was okay and to let me see them. Freddie moved and I walked to the door showing myself to the two guys.
“Hi, Jame. How did you find our address?” I asked slipping on my slides. “Bye Freddie I’ll see you tomorrow” I said as I squeezed in between Jamie and Tyler and closed the door.
“Why did Auston have a sonogram in his car?” Tyler asked following me down the hall.
“Because I was pregnant and he was a supportive friend” I pushed the elevator button so I could go down to the car lot.
“What do you mean you were pregnant?” Jamie asked as the elevator doors opened.
“Was as in I’m not anymore” I said walking in.
“I’m still confused” Tyler muttered.
“Okay you idiot. You knocked me up, I told you I might be pregnant and you freaked out. I moved here and found out it was going to be a baby girl. My hormones were low and I lost the baby” I said praying the elevator ride would go faster.
“Well where are you going?” Jamie asked as the doors opened.
“My boyfriends”
“Who’s your boyfriend?” Tyler scoffed.
“Who do you think?” he stayed silent. I opened my car door and threw my bag into the back before turning to face Tyler and Jamie. “I’m dating Auston you fucking idiot”
“You have got to be kidding me” Tyler laughed.
“Don’t even start with that, Tyler. He was here for me no matter if I was pregnant or not. But I wanted someone who wasn’t afraid of commitment like you” I laughed back, getting into my Jeep.
“Hazy wait” Jamie said putting his hand on the door before I could close it.
“What?”
“Just text me more okay? I just want to know you’re okay” he said looking at me. I jumped out of the seat throwing myself on to Jamie and pulling him in for a hug.
“I will, I promise”

Barista’s Bad Heart - part 9
(Long part here, a lot of exposition, but it’s fairly important as Anna Swift and the team at Memorial are going to be the main characters of many of my stories going forward. Like a TV medical drama, you’ll see these guys often, but the patients will still get their own introductory part or parts. Hope you enjoy.)

Advanced Nurse Practitioner Anna Swift leaned against the counter in the centre of the main triage room. She signed off a chart, dropping it into the discharged pile, then picked up her tea. She was young enough, only 26, that she hadn’t lost enough taste buds to handle the grim brown liquid that passed as coffee. She sipped the warm tea and turned to look around the room. Laid out in a hexagon, it was the hub of the emergency department, where patients were initially assessed then shifted to the relevant ward. There were a dozen cubicles in this central room alone, with portable beds to allow patients to be shuffled around easily and efficiently.
Wide sets of double doors led through to additional cubicles for varying degrees of severity. Each set of doors had large painted panels denoting their intended patients. The blue doors were the minor injuries ward, though most of the staff referred to it as HC, hypochondriac central. Small cuts, basic colds, pretty much anything that could have been sorted by the patient themselves, went through those doors.
Yellow doors led through to the main treatment ward, simplified to TR by the staff. Simple fractures, bad cuts, sprains and illnesses, anything actually needing treatment or observation went through those doors. It was the biggest of the wards, capable of accommodating over 40 patients without any body sitting on a bed in a corridor.
Red was the High Severity Unit, HSU. This was for patients that were in potentially serious trouble and needed close observation. Badly broken bones, head injuries and the like. Things that had a chance of suddenly becoming life threatening. 20 patients could be treated, and crash carts were scattered across the ward in case a patient deteriorated. It had its own set of elevators to the radiology department and an internal corridor to the next ward. The ward that had black panels on its doors.
The Resus Suite was where the life and death action happened. It had access to the ambulance bay to get patients in quick. It was the crowning glory of the Trauma Centres reputation. 12 fully equipped rooms, ready to handle anything the city had to throw at it. It even had a pair of Trauma Theatre’s, and a surgical team on standby. A helicopter pad on the roof had elevators directly to the Resus Suite.
The Resus Suite was Anna’s primary domain. She would cover the other wards when it was quiet, as she had been doing today, but as soon as that red phone rang, she could drop everything and go to where she thrived. Her gaze fell upon it. It sat on the central column behind the circular counter. It hadn’t rung all day. Somehow, the bustling city had avoided grinding anyone up over the last 8 hours. A couple of minor car crashes, one stabbing and an old lady who tripped over thin air and broke her hip, but nothing that set that phone ringing. Every patient had been conscious and stable as they were brought in.
“You’d better not be hoping for that phone to ring Anna.” Said a voice behind her. The words were a reprimand, but the tone was friendly, almost playful. She turned to see Doctor Carl Teague, 30 years old, with sandy hair a short, sculpted beard. He was like Anna. They were both young for their positions, he was already an ED consultant, leading their team. Anna had been working with him for two years now. They’d been sleeping together for 6 months.
“I’m thinking nothing of the sort.” She replied, a look of mock outrage on her face. “I was merely considering that my skills might be being wasted over in HC.”
He rolled his eyes, filling his current chart in the discharge box. “Think of it this way,” he said quietly, leaning over the counter towards her, “a quiet day, means we have more energy for fun later on.”
Anna checked that no was watching. “Easy boy. Remember, not at work.” Despite seeing each other for six months, no one at the hospital officially knew they were in a more than professional relationship. It was starting to become a point of contention between them, and she saw him frown slightly. “Soon. Okay. I just want to make sure everyone knows I’m leading because I’m good enough. Not because I’m entangled with the ED’s golden boy.”
“You’ve proved that time and again already.” He said. “I just…”
 The red phone rang.
 ***
Anna stood in the ambulance bay, bristling with that nervous energy that always filled her when a hard case came her way. Excitement wasn’t quite the right word for it. It was tension, focus, determination all wrapped into one. There was also an undercurrent of concern and fear, that they might fail. But she had enough experience to keep that buried deep enough that it wouldn’t impact her performance.
In the six minutes since the red phone had called them, Anna had gathered up her team. Like a well-oiled machine they knew their roles and could have probably run a code in silence, such was their experience together. Carl had grabbed his current shadow, a young F1 junior doctor. She was clearly nervous, her fingers tugging on the hem of her head scarf.
They all knew the rough details, mid 20’s girl in full cardiac arrest, sudden onset, no trauma. The sirens broke through the air, the ambulance rapidly approaching. Carl gave his orders.
“Ok guys, let’s run this same as always. Anna, I want you straight onto compressions. Kirstie, take the ambu bag. Jess, IV. Roger, you’ve got the record. Zee, this is your first time, so stick close, listen and try your best to keep track.” Zainab nodded. “Good.  Everyone else, I want her inside as quick as we can, so make sure nothings tangled and get ready to work them legs.”
There were murmurs of understanding, the approaching sirens beginning to drown them out. The ambulance raced onto the street, forcing the traffic to yield. It swung into the emergency lane that led up to the assemble resus team. They all stepped back, just off the road, as the ambulance approached. The tyres squealed, a hint of burnt rubber filling the space in front of the doors, bringing the ambulance to a stop.
The team sprang into action. Two of those who had no specific job wrenched open the doors, stepping out of the way. Anna was greeted by the sight of Lucy working the young woman’s chest. A younger man was sat at the head of the gurney, his eyes sparkling with tears. The squeal of the monitor spilled out, and Anna could see the streaking flatline on the monitor. The moment passed, and Anna sprang into action.
She stepped forward, placing one foot on the back step of the ambulance, then sprang forward. Gripping the sides of the gurney with her hands, she swung her legs down, landing on either side of the girl’s bare legs. She grabbed the monitor off the shelf as Lucy continued her compressions, and pulled it across the lifeless body to clip it onto the gurney’s rail.
“On 3.” Anna said to Lucy, who nodded, as she shuffled her knees into the right position. “1…2…3” Lucy pushed down once more, then snapped her arms away. In the same moment, Anna brought her interlaced fingers down, pressing down straight away. There had been no break in the rhythm of compressions, Anna’s thrusts taking place of Lucy’s with a slick efficiency.
The gurney shuddered, Anna compensating automatically, as it was pulled from the back of the ambulance. There was a slight pause as bits of equipment were handed off and Dave made his way round from the cab. Hands grabbed the gurney and began pushing it head-first, towards the doors. Anna kept up the perfect compressions as they travelled towards the Resus Suite.
Carl was near the girl’s head, opposite Dave. Roger was trailing just behind Dave, clipboard and chart in hand. “What have we got?” Carl asked.
“Amelia Preston, 25. Sudden V-tach arrest after altercation with a customer. No signs of injury, infection or drug-based influence. Suspected prior cardiac complaint. She was wearing a 3-lead monitor at the time.” He nodded over at George, who held out the monitor. Zainab took it off his hands. “CPR started immediately, and AED was on scene within 90 seconds. Shocked 3 times before becoming asystolic. First round of Epi administered after 10 minutes. Resulted in a shockable rhythm. After 2 shocks we got a sinus brady rhythm, with multifocal PVCs. Deteriorated back into V-fib, then asystole again after 2 shocks. She’s been flat since then. Total downtime of 22 minutes.”
The team had gotten the gurney inside and were now turning through the extra wide door into Resus 1.
“Ok. Let’s move her over and get her on our monitors. Let’s run a tox panel, and get someone from cardiology down here, I want the data from that monitor.” The gurney had pulled up next to trauma bed and everyone was waiting on Anna to move Amelia across. Anna checked the team was ready to move, then shifted across both beds, slipping over the side to land on the step that protruded from the trauma bed. The rest of the team had lifted Amelia across and arranged her on their own CPR backboard, allowing Anna to resume compressions as soon as she landed on the step.
Lucy handed over the blood sample to one of the nurses, Trish, who rushed out of the trauma room towards the lab. Another nurse was over by the phone, calling the cardiology department. Others were quickly connecting the equipment to the monitors, one attached to the bed, with a repeater feed to the TV sized monitor on the wall.
“Let’s double check everything.” Carl ordered. “I want an echo and let’s confirm that airway.” Anna counted off the compressions as the ultrasound probe was pulled over to the side of the bed.
“3…2…1…” Anna pumped down Amelia’s chest once more, then pulled back. She scanned the room as Carl held the probe to Amelia’s battered chest. Lucy and Dave were standing in a corner, along with the young man that had accompanied them. He looked physically and emotionally exhausted. She looked down at the lifeless body before her. With a few moments to actually look at the girl, Anna was struck was by how similar she was to their patient. They had the same body shape, were within a couple of inches of each other and both had hair that curled gently in waves, though Anna’s was maybe a shade darker. If they’d been weighed, there would probably be a good difference, given the muscle tone Anna had developed lifting patients and performing life saving efforts. But overall, they looked similar enough that a stranger might comment on them being sisters.
“No cardiac activity.” Carl commented, gaze locked on the screen of the echo. “But the pericardium is clear.” He handed off the probe and grabbed the stethoscope from around his neck. “Good bilateral air entry. Airway’s fine.” He looked up at Anna. The realisation of the similarity between her and Amelia must have been showing on her face. “You ok?” He asked.
Anna shock her head quickly. “I’m fine.” She said, motioning for him to get out of the way. As soon as the head of the steth was out of the way she resumed compressions, with a slightly more desperate effort to them.
Carl shrugged to himself. “High dose of epi, let’s see if we can kick start something.” Jessica acknowledged the order and proceeded to inject the drugs into the central IV, confirming the time with Roger. “Sarah! Anything from cardiology?” He called out to the nurse by the phone.
“They’re saying at least 15 minutes. They’re all in the cath lab or out for lunch.”
Carl cursed under his breath. He placed his fingers against Amelia’s neck, feeling the solid compression generated pulse. Then he checked her pupils. “Pupillary response is diminished.” He sighed, pondering his next move. “Ok, let’s get the LUCAS and combo pads on her, and initiate therapeutic hypothermia, I want to keep as much of her brain function intact as possible if we can get her back. She’s definitely a small.”
Anna focused on completing her fourth minute of compressions as the rest of team unpacked the specified equipment. Being a nationally recognised centre of excellence in the field of resuscitation, Memorial had been given several grants for research projects aiming to improve patient outcomes. One of those projects was Carl’s pet project. Still a prototype, the Intra-Arrest Temperature Management Vest was a relatively simple idea. The goal was to rapidly induce mild-hypothermia to reduce potential brain and organ damage, without interfering with efforts to resuscitate the patient. In practice, it looked almost like a bulky long winter coat without the sleeves and a few strange gaps.
Anna watched as the team spread the vest on the bed next to Amelia. They’d practiced the procedure repeatedly, on manakins and each other, but Amelia was only the second patient to be in the right situation for the vest. Kirstie and Sarah took up position on the opposite side of the bed from Amelia, while Jessica come up beside Anna. With Trish still on her way back from the lab, Carl directed Zainab to the head of the bed, while he went to the end. His longer arms allowed him to reach out and grip underneath Amelia’s thighs. Anna waited until everyone had sounded off their readiness before stopping compressions.
“1…2…3… Lift.” Carl told Zainab. Together they lifted the lifeless Amelia a couple of inches clear of the bed. Anna’s arm shot underneath her, grabbing the vest. Next to her Jess was doing the same. They pulled it through, Kirstie and Sarah making sure they didn’t drag it too far, then guided Carl and Zainab in lowering Amelia back down so that she lay with her shoulder blades on the reinforced section of the back of the vest. That was where most of the pressure from the compressions would end up.
As soon as Amelia was down, Anna went straight back into compressions, keeping the blood flowing while the others finished arranging the vest. Amelia’s chest sank underneath Anna’s hands, her abdomen distending just as it before. The vest offered no interference with the process. As Anna hammered away on her near-doppelganger’s chest, Sarah reached around her hands to remove the shiny orange gel pads, replacing them with the large foam squares of the Quik-Combo electrodes.
Jess and Kirstie threaded Amelia’s arms through the large holes, then folded the top half of vest over her body, securing it with the Velcro straps. It didn’t interfere with Anna, as one of the large gaps was located right on Amelia’s sternum, providing the perfect gap for Anna’s hands. The pair of nurses then moved further down, wrapping parts of the vest around Amelia’s thighs, another large gap left between her legs, allowing access to her vagina and femoral arteries.
The small cooler attached to the vest began to hum as it pumped refrigerated water through the tiny tubes in the vest, and within seconds Amelia’s temperature began to drop. Anna continued her professionally brutal compressions as the team then began to unpack the Lucas. Carl was injecting another round of drugs in, as the monitor continued to show the complete lack of electrical activity in Amelia’s heart.
The backboard of the Lucas was brought over, Anna stopping for a moment as it was slid under Amelia, it was a perfect fit for the reinforced region of the vest. Anna did a few more compressions as the team made sure the Lucas was ready.
“Ok, step off Anna.” Carl ordered. She complied, stepping completely off the bed, rubbing some feeling back into her arms. She glanced at the clock. 6 minutes and 30 seconds of near continuous compressions. It was a personal best. Though she didn’t feel particularly proud at the moment. It meant that Amelia had now been in cardiac arrest for 29 minutes.
Anna returned her attention to the patient who look so much like her. The Lucas had been clipped to its backboard, Amelia’s wrists tied to the top. The large puck, fitting perfectly in the gap in the cooling vest, began to force her chest down. At this point, all Anna could do was watch. Watch, and hope.

Fraser Memorial | Ch. 6 “Grapefruits”
Thank you so so much @sassenachwaffles for being my beta for this chapter!
Ch. 1 - Sutures | Ch. 2 - Maybe This Time | Ch. 3 - Movie Date | Ch. 4 - Two Pink Lines | Ch. 5 - Boss’s Boss
2015
I met Jamie Fraser three months ago and of three things I was certain. One: he was the only person that could truly make me laugh when I was having a shitty day. Two: Jamie was as stubborn as a rock when it came to just about anything. And three: I couldn’t live without him.
One day after work, Jamie picked me up and instantly knew that that something was off with me.
“Do ye want to talk about it, Sassenach?” He asked, blocking me from getting into the passenger seat.
I shook my head and said nothing. Sighing, he kissed the top of my head before opening my door for me and I climbed inside, wrapping my arms tightly around myself.
After driving for twenty minutes, I realized we weren’t headed in the direction of either of our houses. “Where are we going?”
“Och, I thought we’d go to the Christmas markets, do a bit of shopping and lookin’ around,” he said with a cautious smile, still wary of my off kilter mood.
“Fine,” I groaned as I looked out the window. I knew I should tell him what was wrong, but I was afraid to bring it up… to pop our perfect bubble.
Jamie was respectful though and kept to himself for the rest of the drive, never once asking me what was wrong, even though I knew it must be killing him. Snow had begun to fall lightly and my shoes made crunching sounds as we walked to the markets. On any other day, I would love this — being here with him, sipping hot chocolate and buying Christmas presents. But not today.
“Are ye hungry, Claire?” Jamie asked, his use of my name caught me off guard.
I looked up at him and saw the concern in his eyes, “Not just now,” I smiled weakly, “Maybe later though.”
It was crowded at the markets, and Jamie held my hand tightly as we made our way through the busy sea of people. We turned the corner and started walking towards the Christmas tree maze. It was all so beautiful, but nothing could change my mood, or lift my spirits.
“Want to do the maze, Claire?” Jamie asked.
I nodded, knowing that he brought me here to try and cheer me up. I needed to tell him.
“Jamie,” I pulled on his hand as he started walking away and he turned back to face me.
“There’s something I need to tell you.” Looking up into his blue eyes, I suddenly felt nervous and scared at the same time.
“Ye can tell me anything, Sassenach.” Jamie smiled, wrapping both his arms around my waist, and pressed his forehead against mine, creating a safe cocoon.
I took a deep breath, and placed both my hands on his chest. “Today at work, there was a husband and wife that came into the emergency room. They were in a terrible car crash…”
“Mo nighean donn,” Jamie said softly, squeezing my waist and letting me continue.
“And I’ve seen people injured before, obviously,” I sniffed and buried my head into the crook of his neck. “But today… today is the ten year anniversary of my parents death.”
I felt Jamie’s body tense against mine, and he held me tighter.
“How?” He said quietly.
“Car crash,” I felt tears prickle my eyes.
“Why didn’t ye tell me before, Sassenach?” Jamie pulled back and I looked up at him through watery eyes. “I wouldna have brought ye here…” he motioned around to all the people.
“I just didn’t want to burst our happy bubble. Things are going so well,” I gave him my best attempt at a half smile.
“Aye, they are. Do ye trust me, Claire?” Jamie brushed his thumb across my cheek softly, “Do ye trust me wi’ yer heart?”
I avoided looking at his eyes until the last second and when I did, I nearly fell down. His eyes sparkled, filled with tears of his own. “Yes, I do, Jamie.”
“Then trust that I’ll protect it, no matter what.” He smiled warmly, “I want to be there for ye when yer havin’ a bad day. And I want ye to know that whatever pain ye bear, whatever memories that haunt ye… I’ll bear that pain as well.”
Jamie dipped his head, slowly pressing his lips against mine. He tasted salty and I thought that I must taste the same. He held me to him for awhile — it could have been minutes or hours, I lost all sense of time.
I took a deep breath and looked up at him once again, “Thank you.”
“Anythin’ for ye, Sassenach.” Jamie kissed me and then took a look at our surroundings. “I ken ye might no want to be here right now, and I promise to take ye home, but only if…” He raised one brow, “I can make ye laugh.”
“Make me laugh?” I asked, a bit confused.
“Aye, if I can properly make ye laugh, cheer ye up a bit, then we’ll go home and we can bury ourselves under the covers and I’ll not ask anything of ye.” Jamie attempted a wink and that alone nearly had me laughing.
I took a step back and place both hands on my hips, “Alright… give it your best shot, Fraser.”
Bringing his hand to his chin, he squinted, as if thinking of his best jokes. “Aye, I’ve got one… surely ye’ll laugh at this.” He grinned and took on his natural born storyteller stance, “What’s the difference between a nun at prayer and a nun in the bath?”
I shook my head, “I don’t know… what’s the difference?”
“One has hope in her soul, and the other has soap in her hole!” Jamie said, laughing at his own joke. All I did was crack half a smile, giving him a look that read ‘that’s the best you got?’
“Hmmm, a tough wee biscuit are ye?” Jamie hummed.
“I don’t find nuns and their… holes particularly funny.” I grinned and tapped my fingers along my crossed arms. It had actually been a funny joke but I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction on the first try.
“Alright… another one then.”
He clapped his hands together, “Sassenach, what’s the difference between a snowman and a snowwoman?”
“Snowballs,” I replied with a smirk and Jamie stared back, his mouth gaping.
“Twas my joke, mo ghraidh… ye stole it!” He laughed. “Okay… one more wee joke. Surely this will get ye rollin’.” Jamie took a step forward, placing his hands on my hips. “Yer about as stubborn as me, Sassenach.”
“No one is as stubborn as you, Jamie,” I rolled my eyes slightly.
“Aye, that may be true. It’s a Fraser thing, ye’ve met my family after all,” he chuckled softly.
“Tell me the joke,” I said, pushing my hand against his chest. I decided that even if it wasn’t funny, I would laugh at this next one. He had promised to take me home if I laughed, and I wanted very badly to be curled up with him in bed.
“How does a hedgehog make love?” Jamie said, all while sliding his hands over my arse, and pressing himself against me.
My breath was coming up short and I looked up at him, “I don’t know, how?”
“Verra…” he kissed my cheek, “carefully.”
I snorted, covering my mouth with my hand and started to actually laugh. “You ridiculous human being.”
“I made ye laugh though, didn’t I, Sassenach?!” Jamie smiled, clearly thrilled with his achievement.
I leaned up on my toes and kissed him soundly, “Yes. You did make me laugh, thank you.”
“Now we can finally go home,” he squeezed my side and started to walk back to the car, but I stayed put. “What?”
“You bring me all the way here, and yet you haven’t even bought me a cup of hot chocolate…” I pursed my lips.
“Och, where are my manners, mo ghraidh. We must see to that at once!” Jamie laughed, then led us in the direction of the nearest warm sugary beverage.
That was the first night I knew… that I would never be able to live without him. That I always needed him by my side, when the days were good and when the days were not so kind. My heart was connected to his by a fragile string, and over time I hoped our bond would grow, become strong and outlast anything that came our way.
Present Day
Shifting in bed, I let out a deep sigh and rolled to my side. At five months pregnant, carrying twins I already felt gigantic and I still had months to go. The doctor said the twins were about the size of grapefruits at this stage and ever since our last ultrasound, Jamie hadn’t stopped referring to them as his ‘wee grapefruits’.
So when Jamie walked in our bedroom, carrying a tray of breakfast, I nearly choked on my own saliva when I saw two grapefruits, sliced and ready to be eaten.
“Jamie!” I said, eyes wide at the fruit in question.
“What is it, Sassenach?” He stammered and looked at me with alarm in his eyes. Quickly he set the tray on the bed and was next to me in a flash. “Is it the bairns?”
“No, it’s not the babies. Jamie…” I looked at the tray, “I can’t eat grapefruits.”
He looked back at me confused, “Is it the fruit? Only a wee joke, mo cridhe.” Jamie smirked, stretching his hand across my belly.
“Well I don’t think it’s so funny to be eating our babies, now is it?”
Jamie gasped, his eyes wide, “Are the bairns makin’ yer head soft, Sassenach? Surely ye dinna think these fruits are actually the babes?”
I opened and then closed my mouth, watching him smirk, his eyes alight with mischief. “No. Of course I don’t. But it’s just… odd, to think of them as fruits and then to see it.” I stared at the tray in front of me.
“Fine, I’ll take the grapefruits back to kitchen and ye’ll no have to see them anymore,” Jamie kissed my forehead and then picked up both fruits, cradling them to his chest. “C’mon wee Tavish, and ye too wee Tavia.”
“Excuse me? What did you just call the grapefruits?” I laughed and Jamie turned back to me, still cradling the fruits.
“Tavish for the lad and Tavia for the lassie,” he said simply. “The names mean ‘twin’… ’tis only somethin’ to call them until we decide on a name.”
“Well you can be sure, my lad, that we will not be calling our children Tavish and Tavia,” I smirked. “I haven’t thought about baby names at all actually.”
Jamie placed the fruits back on the tray and came to sit at my feet, bringing them in his lap. “Do ye have any particular names in mind, Sassenach?” He pushed his thumb into the arch of my feet and made an audible groan.
“Beatrice for a girls name?” I said, “Has a proper British sound to it, I suppose.”
“Aye, it does. But the bairns willna be in England, Sassenach.” Jamie lifted his brows. “What about Malcolm? After one of my middle names…”
“Malcolm Fraser…” I said, sounding it out on my tongue, “A top choice to be sure, and what about a girls name?”
“What about a name of a flower? Ye like all the green stuff, ye ken.” Jamie smiled, continuing to move his fingers against the soles of my feet.
“Lily.” I said, “Lily Fraser?”
“Lilidh, of course.” Jamie said.
“That’s what I said… Lily.”
“Spelled L-i-l-i-d-h. ’Tis the Gaelic spelling.” He smiled.
“Malcolm and Lilidh Fraser,” I said, rubbing my hand over my protruding belly. “Do you two like those names?” Just then I felt a gentle kick from the inside and made a sort of squealing noise, making Jamie jump.
“What?” He moved closer and I grabbed his hand, sliding it over my belly.
“Just wait,” I said. A few moments later, I felt another kick and Jamie looked down at my belly, rubbing it slowly.
“The rascals,” he laughed, “Ye dinna hurt yer mam, ye ken. Ye both be kind to her!” Jamie bent his head, placing a kiss on the bump before leaning up to kiss me.
“If they like the names, then so do I, Sassenach,” leaning his forehead against mine, I brought one hand to cup his cheek.
“Of course, it’s two girls or two boys, we’ll need more options.”
“Aye, I’ve plenty of good strong Scottish names in mind,” Jamie kissed me and then climbed next to me in bed. He lifted my shirt, bringing it over my belly, and ran his hand slowly over it.
“I love ye, Claire. I want to thank ye if I havena already… for carrying our bairns. For being so brave.” He kissed me tenderly.
“It’s my pleasure, Jamie.” I smiled, rubbing my hand against the scruff of his cheek. Jamie shifted against me, so his head rested on top of the bump. Sitting up slightly from the pillows, I lifted my shirt over my head, tossing it to the ground. Jamie turned his head, his eyes now fixed on my hardened nipples.
“Would it hurt ye if I-“
“No, it wouldn’t… I don’t think.”
With his hands still covering my belly, he lifted his head and placed his mouth over one nipple, sucking on the sensitive nub. “Christ,” I sighed, moaning from the sensitivity.
“Alright?” He asked and I nodded. Treating my other breast with the same affection, he began to suck, and flattened his tongue on my peak. My head rolled to the side and I wound my hand at the nape of his neck, just holding him against me. With our babies growing inside of me, and my husband loving me with his mouth, I sighed happily, completely content… a feeling so unlike anything in all my life.

I’ll leave the door on the latch. (AO3)
Season 2AU - Snow finds out that she's pregnant while Emma and Henry are in New York. Emma forces herself to try and be happy, until she can't anymore.
(A Charming family fic full of angst but it will have a happy end.)
Snow hadn’t believed it at first, despite all of the overwhelming evidence against her disbelief, since she had first gotten her periods she had been like clockwork, other than when she was pregnant.
She took 9 tests, all of them were positive.
So she went to the hospital, her husband went with her though she hadn’t told him why, just in case she was right. But the doctor confirmed it: she was pregnant.
Both parents were completely and totally over the moon, if a little shocked, and they’d be lying if they said that they had thought of Emma right, but that was understandable, they were in shock and beyond excited about their incoming arrival.
But they decided against telling their daughter or grandson right away for two reasons: 1) They wanted to be able to bond with Emma before everything changed, if that made them selfish then it was a label they were willing to accept, not a long time mind just a couple of weeks. 2) Before she had gotten pregnant with Emma, Snow had suffered two miscarriages, she wasn’t sure if it was down to George’s original curse or just a coincidence, they didn’t want to chance it this time.
So they gave themselves three weeks, just until they had the 12 week scan, when the chances of losing the baby were significantly lowered. Their scan happened to coincide with Emma and Henry going to New York to help Gold find his son, they had wanted to tell their daughter and grandson in person, so that bought them a little more time.
While they were gone they couldn’t resist trying to find any of their old things in Gold’s store. They found a couple of things, some unisex baby clothes they had bought for Emma, they wouldn’t dress their baby in them, not just cause they’d look a bit ridiculous in Storybrooke, but because they were Emma’s. This baby wasn’t a replacement for the life they would have had with their daughter, they would be their second child, they were both very clear on that, so clear they hadn’t needed to actually say it out loud. They found some other of their old things they had missed, and some of Emma’s things they would give her when the moment was right. Their best find was David’s mother’s necklace, they both shed a few tears when they saw that, they knew how much Ruth would have loved Emma and this new baby too.   “East to west.” David’s eyes clouded over with tears. “Another girl.”   Snow looked up at his beaming smile, gender didn’t matter to either of them, they would be happy with two girls, but David had always had a terrible sense of direction. “North to south,” she corrected, “David, we’re having a boy.”
When Emma and Henry got back from New York they weren’t talking, or Henry was barely talking to Emma, who was clearly very upset about the whole thing. Her ex, Henry’s father was back, if they had a choice now would not be when they told them. But Snow was showing and having to wear loose clothing out to avoid showing, the first trimester was over, Emma needed to know.
They waited until the day after the pair got back, Henry had decided to spend time with both Neal and Regina, and made it clear that he didn’t want to spend time with Emma.
“Kid, just wait a moment.” David managed to stop him before he walked out of the door.
“They’re my mom and my dad, I get to see them, I want to see them .”
“I get that you’re upset with your mother,” David hated to admit that he understood, but he also understood his daughter’s side, “but me and Snow need to talk to you two for a moment.” He led him to the kitchen table and Snow came down the stairs with Emma following her and led her to the table too. Emma looked hopeful at Henry, but when he blanked her her face just fell.
“We have something we need to tell you both, we would have told you earlier but we wanted to make sure…” Snow said looking from Henry to Emma. “But now we are, and everything’s fine-”
“-Are you sick?” Emma interrupted her brows furrowed as she looked at Snow. She turned her head to look at David. “Are you?”
Snow reached across the table and took hold of Emma’s hand, she could see how worried both Emma and Henry were, it was touching especially as Emma hadn’t bonded with this version of her and her husband yet. “We’re not sick, honey, we’re both well, very very well in fact.”
David reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out the ultrasound, one of many, many, copies, he loved that this world had this technology, he also wished that he could have had scan pictures of his daughter. He placed the photo on the table and pushed across the table to his daughter and grandson. “You’re going to have a little brother,” he beamed at Emma then gave a small chuckle looking at Henry, “and you’re going to have a a little uncle.”
“What!” Henry’s chair scraped back as he stood up, his eyes were wide with excitement. “You’re having a baby?”
David and Snow both stood up with him, no longer trying to hide their smiles. “Yeah, you ready to teach your uncle
“You are not putting any swords near my baby,” Snow told her husband firmly, “I don’t care that they’re wooden.”
“What are you going to call him? You could give him my name as a middle name, I wouldn’t recommend the name George, and don’t name him after the dwarves.” Henry began to chatter.
Emma forced a smile on her face before her parents could look at her, if they were going to look at her, she seemed to have been forgotten in the excitement. But Henry was happy, that was a good thing, right? She stood up slowly. “Woah guys, that’s huge! Congrats!” She wrapped her mom in a big hug, then let David pull her in for a hug too. With her face against his shoulder she allowed her smile to drop before she had to put it back on. “When are you due?” She asked before Snow could cotton on.
After that conversation every single conversation since seemed to turn into talking about the baby. Emma could be adding some candy to the grocery list and Snow would say that she was thinking the baby would be the opposite and be really healthy, she knew , or she and David would be at the station and trying to tell him something and he would be really distracted, only a second later he would be showing her yet another toy or piece of furniture he had bought. To top that off Henry was still barely speaking to her, he hated her for lying to him, instead he was spending time with Regina and Neal. It was almost too much to bare. But she didn’t know that it was only about to get worse, much worse.
Henry was spending the night at the house Neal was renting, or more aptly he had been given by his father, and she couldn’t stand a whole night of just hearing about her parents second chance to get it right (they hadn’t called it that but she knew it was what they meant) so she spent her night in her room. She had realised Henry had left his storybook at the loft so decided to give it a read, perhaps that would make him proud, or she could persuade him to talk to her about it. She had read about her parents and grandparents and all the people she knew and truth be told it was fairly interesting she was even starting to feel more like David and Snow were her parents. She had reached her father introducing her mother to his mother, who got hit, then they had a small wedding. She thought that it was really nice, and she liked the sound of Ruth, but she was confused about George’s curse on Snow- perhaps it was creative licensing? But then Ruth was talking about how much David wanted to be a father, her cheeks blushed and she had never felt closer to him.
“He always wanted a son.”
Emma’s throat went dry. “And now he’s getting one.” She said quietly. She closed the book without reading anymore. She flicked off her lamp, led down on her bed, and bit the inside of her cheek to stop herself from crying too loudly. Yet another thing to add to the pile which was threatening to overwhelm her.
Emma was stood next to the loft stairs as the baby shower -come- celebration sort of party went on around her. The downstairs of the loft was swarming with people yet she had never felt so alone. Other than her mom not telling her to eat the food yet because people would be coming soon her parents had been too busy to talk to her that day.
Henry hadn’t even said hi to her when he came in, instead he went to talk to her parents, when she tried to talk to him again he blanked her, deciding instead to talk to everyone else. Regina and Neal were talking on the couch, Emma watched Regina opened up her locket and Neal leant closer to her chest to look at the picture of Henry inside of it. Emma half listened to Regina talking about Henry, the bits she could overhear anyway, but with Henry so mad at her she didn’t feel like she was entitled to that knowledge. She looked at her son as he walked over and squeezed in the small gap between Neal and Regina and felt a pang of pain in her heart. He looked so happy with them. Neal passed him a drink and she heard the automatic words, “Thanks dad”, and she wanted to cry, she was Emma to Henry, she hadn’t raised him, and she had been the one who had given him up.
She took some steps closer to the large crowd that surrounded her parents, she was biting her cheek to stop from crying, and for some reason she just wanted her parents, she wanted to talk about everything with Henry but most of all she wanted a hug. She couldn’t get very close but she could see Snow sat in the brand new rocking chair, David was sat on its arm, his hand resting on her tummy with protective pride. Close to them were a few new or expectant moms, Snow seemed so excited, and so right in her place there that Emma couldn’t bring herself to say anything or even to move closer. She didn’t want to stress her mom out, what if she went into labour? She was due anytime after all. Emma hated herself for dreading the day the baby was born.
“I’ll get Emma to tell me his name then.”
David chuckled at Ruby’s attempt to force them to tell her their son’s name. “She doesn’t know.” A smug smile came across his face.
Ruby’s eyes widened and her mouth dropped open, just a little, then she frowned a little in confusion. After all during the curse Snow had told Emma everything. “She doesn’t know?”
“Of course not.”
Emma hated how her father sounded so cavalier about that. She had asked a couple of times, she had figured they would tell her sooner or later, but it was later now and David was acting as though they didn’t care about telling her at all. Like she didn’t deserve to know as she wasn’t part of their family.
Emma was stuck where she stood, as though she was watching something on the tv, no one even noticed her there.
Snow was passed little Alexandra and she cuddled her close with a big smile on her face. “I can’t wait until he’s this age, she’s just so interested in everyone and the world.” David was smiling in agreement and watching the 18 month old looking around. “I would love a girl.” Snow said, misspeaking without realising, no one corrected her, then she laughed carelessly. “After this one of course.”
“One of each!” One of the new moms said happily and plenty of people agreed with her.
David leant down and pressed a kiss to the top of his wife’s head. “However many you want, my love.”
Emma moved away as everyone laughed and made jeering comments. She raced up the stairs and not a single person followed her, or even noticed.
Her room was full of baby gifts and some brand new furniture for the baby which were being stored in her room as they needed the space. She sat on her old and slightly rusted bed, her parents’- no Snow and David’s words, were going through her mind. David didn’t want his oldest to be a girl, Snow wanted her next one to be a daughter, and neither of them counted her as their child. She was simply a sacrificial lamb, a saviour who was useless now she had done her job, a test run child for them to work out all their mistakes. In her eyes the biggest mistake they had made was having her in the first place.
The only positive of the party was that she could finally cry loudly without anyone knowing, not that they would care in the first place.
Emma waited until everyone in Storybrooke was fast asleep before she packed up her things, loaded them into her car, and drove out of the town.
She did not leave a note.
No one would have cared to read it anyway.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion: HEART GLASS
[Content warning for surgery and stuff! And also for suicide, a topic that this game handles miserably, so be prepared for that. Actually, let's also add a content warning for verbal abuse towards a suicidal person, just to be safe.]
Circe here! Time to fix more organs! We open with episode 1-6. Angie is really worried about this patient, because his blood tests are off, but Derek just blows off her concerns. This surgey is pretty straightforward, we're treating inflammation and removing tumors, but Derek is continually ignoring Angie pointing out that something more seems wrong. Our protagonist has gone from a newbie doctor to a bigshot episode in the space of six scenes. Amazing. Well, after we finish up the surgery, Derek hurries off to some doctor event thing, but it turns out that the patient had more inside bad stuff that blew up, so he almost died. Whoopsy. We don't actually operate on this patient again, instead Derek basically gets fired for negligence. Angie says that any suspicion, no matter how tiny or inconsequential, should be taken seriously, which is an absolutely ridiculous thing to say, because there were actually quite ample reasons to think something was wrong.
Have I mentioned that this game's writing is...uh...a little strange? The characters react to every surgery basically as if they were operating on someone they know, and while it's admirable to care about people that passionately, this just isn't realistic, because that kind of attitude isn't sustainable when you're treating life or death situations every day. I dunno if this is typical for medical dramas, but I find it a bit jarring. At the very least, though, I guess comments like this help us understand the driving philosophy of the game's narrative.
Anyway, Derek is moping outside, when he hears about a car accident. It seems that one of the victims is being taken into emergency care, and Derek knows that there aren't enough doctors, so he rushes in and is, like, emergency un-fired, I guess. Was he really fired, or did they just yell at him a lot? I dunno, this game's fuzzy about that. But who cares because this guy's got HEART GLASS! That's right, when we cut the guy open, we find that his heart has been pretty much pincushioned with glass shards, which I'm pretty sure would mean he'd just be dead. To make things worse, as soon as we remove all the glass, another huge piece just, chestbursters out of his heart, which
I mean
I'm *pretty* sure that'd kill him.
Just when we think we've got this guy all patched up, another laceration appears on his heart, for reasons that aren't even really clear this time. In a moment of panic, Derek fixes it with magic.
...what? You heard me. This is the point at which we're introduced to the Healing Touch, a rare magic power possessed by only a handful of surgeons that allows them to go into bullet time to do surgery super fast and save people from dying. Have I mentioned that this series is a bit weird?
Anyway, no time for that now. This is the remake, remember, and bit that I'm pretty sure is new to this version is a side story featuring another surgeon named Nozomi Weaver. We don't learn much about Dr. Weaver except that she's a master Japanese surgeon who's currently practicing in America, and also she's shaaaady. In this surgery, our patient's arm bones are shattered, so we do the logical thing and collect all the pieces, jigsaw them back together, and smear some antibiotic gel all over it so it heals real good. Uh, I didn't mention this, but there's a line of dialogue early on about this gel being a cure-all, and I guess they weren't fucking kidding, were they. This surgery also introduced an unfortunate complication to my clever emulated control scheme. To put the bones back together, you have to rotate the Wii remote, something I hadn't really bothered to configure. I had to concede the need to use an analog stick here for precision, so I ended up with the controller sitting in my lap so I could operate the stick and the mouse at the same time. It was, uh, a little less than elegant, but it was the best I could do. I kinda hope they don't require any more of the Wii remote's features in future surgeries.
Back to Derek. Next up, we gotta fix these little blobs that are traveling through a guy's spleen, and every time they go through it hurts him. We're doing pretty good until there's a lot of them going really fast, so Derek once again draws on the power of magic to fix it all in time. Word of Derek's dark magic reaches the hospital director guy, and he explains that Derek has a rare magic power, and that having such great healing power is a heavy burden to bear, so he should give up on it or he'll never be happy. Derek ignores him though, like any good protagonist, so we learn how to activate Healing Touch manually by drawing the shape of a pentagram in the air.
Nope. Not kidding.
Derek explains this away as him concentrating on a simple shape to increase his focus, but also fuck you, you're invoking dark magic with a pentagram. I fucking own it when I use dark magic, Derek, and you should do the same. I should also note, invoking the Healing Touch involves holding B and Z and drawing at the same time, which is a manuever that was definitely kind of a pain to configure so I could carry it out comfortably. Oh yeah, I forgot, we also learned how to use defibrillators earlier! That requires you to use B and Z at the same time also. Gotta be real careful about zapping a guy's heart and stuff.
Aaaanyway. The next patient's got lumps on his organs that keep bursting, so we gotta cut the lumps out and stitch his veins back together. This surgery actually kinda sucks, and I lost several times before I got it, because it takes a massive chunk out of the patient's vitals when his stuff bursts, and they will, no matter how quickly you work. Near the end, there's four of them at once, and you gotta use the Healing Touch to not lose. Unfortunately, this leads to Derek passing out for three days. Whoopsy again. When Derek comes to, veteran doctor guy tells Derek that dark magic places a lot of strain on the body and he really shouldn't overdo it, because if he passed out in a surgery that would be, uh, pretty bad. I gotta side with veteran guy here. Pulling a spirit muscle is *way* worse than pulling a physical one.
So then we get to Linda. Let me tell you about Linda, and how Angie becomes the worst character in the game for all time. So, Linda is a 17 year old girl who comes in with lacerations on her lungs. Which sounds pretty bad. This is a fairly basic surgery, although we also learn that we need to close very large lacerations with the forceps before we can stitch them closed. Where things really go bad is after the surgery. It turns out that Linda was suicidal, and didn't really want to be fixed at all. So Angie does the logical thing, and yells in her face that clearly the surgery was a waste and Linda should just die if that's how she feels about it.
so
uh
hm
So yeah, Angie is total scum. Let's move on and see how it gets worse. After that shameful display, Derek tries to help Linda by giving her a little pep talk, which I don't think would actually help, but hey, the guy's heart is in the right place I guess. Later, we learn a bit more about Linda's home life, and there's some stuff that kinda sucks, but, in Angie's words, 'nothing worth dying over'.
as you can see angie understands suicidal ideation very well
Later we learn that extremely high levels of some kind of antihistamine was in Linda's body, and it's not even on the market yet, nor is there any evidence she was taking it, so her body was just kind of, creating it somehow. Apparently this huge drug overdose caused a mood swing that led to her feeling suicidal, which means
w h i c h m e a n s
which means Linda was feeling suicidal because she was sick. Angie screamed in a sick person's face that she should die because she was sick. Angie should be fucking fired, quite possibly even sued for some kind of negligence, I don't know. She certainly shouldn't be allowed back into the plot as though she just got a little upset and said some things she didn't mean. Angie even has the gall to later whisper ominously about a rumored 'death doctor' who euthanizes patients, and how it's good that Linda was treated by Derek instead of that guy. As if Angie herself wasn't literally saying Linda should be dead fucking yesterday. Fuck.
Okay, deep breaths. I'm getting ahead of things a little. While the plot is getting horrible, the surgeries are getting *amazing*. After all this, Linda suddenly starts complaining of excruciating chest pains, so we gotta treat her again. After we fix up more lacerations, we find out the reason why Linda's body has been all weird and messed up: tiny monsters in her lung! Yes, that's right. We use the ultrasound to detect a tiny winged creature moving around inside Linda's lung, and it's creating more lacerations, so we have to cut the sucker out and laser it to death. A few more of these things crop up, and we take them out one by one, until all of Linda's lung monsters are taken care of.
This is GUILT, the game's made up...disease...monster...thing. It's a little hard to be sure what they are, because the game talks about GUILT as though it's a disease, but they appear to be, like, parasites or something. Maybe it's a visual metaphor? For...something? Well anyway, Linda's all better. Veteran doctor guy whispers in hushed tones about GUILT, and says that nobody outside of this room should talk about what we saw.
So, with that major development, I think this is a good cutting off point for now. I wanna focus on the fun parts, and not as much on how Angie is a detestable human being, so let's review: HEART GLASS, jigsaw bones, and lung monsters. This game is only going to get more absurd from here, and as far as I remember, there is 100% less of characters being absolutely monstrous to teenage girls, so I hope you're looking forward to it.

Task NO.1: How to Pursue Miss CEO novel Chapter 1
“Miss Yard, you’re pregnant with triplets, and the fetuses are all healthy.”
The doctor’s words were still echoing in Selena’s head as she held her waist with one hand and a 4D ultrasound report in the other. She was already seven months pregnant, and because there were triplets, she was bigger than other pregnant women. In fact, she was even bigger than those women who were about to give birth.
They didn’t manage to obtain good pictures of the three babies with the previous scans, but she finally had the pictures she wanted this time. I’m gonna show them to Finneas! He’ll definitely be very happy to see them.
After walking for a while, she grew tired and started panting, so she found a bench and sat down. Then, she stared at the examination report in her hands; the faces of the three babies were clearly visible.
“Who do you look like? Like your dad, or like your mom?”
Suddenly, a slender hand reached out and snatched the report away from her. When Selena looked up sharply, she saw a familiar and bewitching face. It was none other than Megan Yard, her younger sister of another mother. Megan was only younger than her by about six months; she was conceived during an affair their father had when Selena’s mother was pregnant.
“Give it back to me!” Selena stood up with difficulty. Holding her belly, she reached out to grab her own examination report.
However, the corner of Megan’s lips curved up and her eyebrows were raised as she said, “These b*stards are so ugly that I can tell they are not Finneas’ children.”
“What are you gibbering about?”
With a smooth move, Megan threw the report away, which floated down to the ground.
“Selena, do you really think you’re going to start a family for the Lake Family, huh? Dream on! The person you slept with that night was not Finneas at all.” Then, Megan suddenly approached Selena’s ear and whispered in it, “It was a random b*stard of a man I found for you.”
“You!” Selena looked at Megan in shock. How is this possible? That night, it was clearly Finneas...
Suddenly, Megan fell to the ground and grabbed Selena’s arm with both hands. “Selena, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to do it! You can hit me and scold me as you like, but please don’t hurt my child!”
Before Selena could react, a man came over suddenly and pushed her away. Stumbling backward, her back hit the wall behind her and a dull pain spread through her.
“What the hell are you doing, Selena?” Finneas hurriedly helped Megan up. That caring and doting look in his eyes caused Selena’s own eyes to sting. The two of them...
“Finneas, please apologize to Selena! It was me who snatched you from my sister and got pregnant with your baby. I’m sorry. It was all my fault.” Instantly, tears rolled down from Megan’s cheeks.
Finneas turned to look at Selena coldly and asked Megan, “Do you feel any discomfort? Do you want to go see a doctor?”
Throughout the seven months of her pregnancy, he had rarely taken care of Selena, for the number of times they met each other could be counted on one finger.
“No. You should go and check on Selena. She’s later into pregnancy than I am. I’m fine.”
Finneas supported Megan with his arms, and when he looked at Selena, his eyes immediately turned frosty. “Selena, the children in your womb are not mine. Only the child in Megan’s womb is mine.” His tone was even colder than his gaze, and he was not even willing to look at Selena’s body for one more second.
“You… She…” Selena could not get her words out at all. At the moment, she could only feel her body trembling terribly, as if a basin of ice water had been poured over her from head to foot, rendering her completely and utterly cold.
“Megan and I have been together for a long time. We didn’t tell you because we’re afraid to hurt you, so even when you got pregnant, we’ve been concealing it. But now that Megan is pregnant with my child, I do not want to distress her any further, so let’s break up.”
Selena gripped at the wall behind her tightly. Right when she was already in her seventh month of pregnancy, and when she was already well-prepared to welcome three little lives into the world and to start a new life with Finneas, God had played her for a fool. The man she loved so much had abandoned her. Ever since her mother died, Finneas was her world. She loved him, so she could give up everything she had for him and even endure everything for him, but he abandoned her just like that.
Seeing that Selena had nothing to say, Finneas turned his head to look at Megan. “Megan, let’s go for a checkup to be safe. Didn’t the doctor say that your pregnancy isn’t stable yet?”
“Okay.”
Then, Finneas helped Megan turn around, and they both walked toward the other side.
Only then did Selena come back to her senses. “Don’t go! You’ve got to give me an explanation!” Selena held her belly and caught up with Finneas with great difficulty.
As soon as she pulled Finneas’ arm, the man subconsciously flung it away. “Ah!” That sudden movement caused Selena to fall backward into the stairwell that was just behind her. Toppling over, her bulky body started rolling down the stairs.
The world seemed to quiet down all of a sudden. Selena lifted her eyelids with difficulty and saw that above her, the man she had loved for seven years was holding the other pregnant woman instead of herself…
The pain in her body pervaded her senses; she felt her eyelids getting heavier and heavier. In the next second, the world went dark.
When she opened her eyes again, she realized that she had been woken by pain so intense that she felt as if her whole body had gone numb. Meanwhile, the transparent liquid in the IV bottle was steadily flowing into her body.
“You’re awake!” The nurse took a look at her and adjusted the speed of the infusion. Then, she continued, “Since it was a premature birth of triplets, you were given a Cesarean section at the last minute. You gave birth to two boys and a girl.” The nurse bit her lip, and she averted her gaze as she added, “It’s just a pity that the two boys…”
Selena turned her eyes to stare at her. In response, the nurse hurriedly turned her eyes to the other side and bowed her head to gather her things. Then, she seemed to have made a great decision before continuing to say, “They’re dead. The girl is in the incubator.” After saying that, she left the ward in a hurry.
The two boys are dead. The two boys are dead. The two boys are dead...
These were the only words that were left in Selena’s head.
…...

If Things Had Been Different - Gabe
Hello again! I’m so glad to be back! Things have finally settled down, for the most part, so here’s a post. Finally.
So, while I was absent I got a bit of writing done when I needed a distraction and this is the result. I kept thinking about Raper and how different things might have been for Gabriel if he had found out about little Sonya before she was born. So I wrote about it. And I fucking love it. A lot. So yeah, have just over 3,100 words about pre-fall Gabe getting a call in the middle of the night about his ex.
If Things Had Been Different - Gabe: pt 2
Daughter Series - Reaper Installments (the original story):  pt 1, pt 2, pt 3, pt 4
Gabe was sitting in his office, staring blankly at the wall across from him. He had only been in charge of Blackwatch for about six months but holy hell had it been a mess. It was secret ops, so he knew it was going to be messy, but he had gravely underestimated how much work and time this job was going to be. “I agreed to this because Jack asked me to, because I needed a distraction after pissing off my woman and my side girl, but shit . . . Might have made a mistake.” His head lulled back as he closed his eyes. It was late, or maybe early, and he was exhausted.
He had a good team, but a team that was good for black ops. Shifty, ruthless, calculating, sometimes drunk, always ready to kill black ops soldiers. They were good operatives, they were, but they all had that same broken psychology and tons of emotional baggage they kept squirreled away.
Jack had asked Gabe to watch over them, keep them under control, contain them. Because Gabe wasn’t like them. But after six months? After reading reports of sickening corruption, deadly biochemical weapons, genocide involving women and children – so many disgusting, awful, gut-wrenching things – he could feel a callous growing around his heart. He’d held a dying child in his arms, he’d sent agents after a politician who was using a children’s home as a cover for human trafficking, he’d watched a woman stab herself in the abdomen with a shard of broken glass once she found out she was pregnant with a warlord’s child. Gabe had always known there were fucked up people in the world, everyone knows that, but coming face to face with their victims was getting to him. Most of the people he saved nowadays weren’t grateful and full of praise, they were drained, body and soul. He was quickly becoming just as empty.
And if terrified him.
But it was worth it. He could be a husk of a man if so many others could live their lives in peace. “I can handle it,” he murmured to himself. “I’ll get by. I’ll find a way. I have to.”
It was nights like this he missed having someone to go home to, someone to make him smile – or at least fake one. Fake it ‘til you make it and all that. Ruby, the woman he’d had an affair with, always made him grin, until the sex was over. Nora, the woman he’d betrayed, made him feel at ease, for the first ten minutes he was home, then it turned into a guilt trip about settling down.
None of that mattered now, though. Both of those relationships had crumbled into a sea of regret, quite catastrophically, too. He was alone with his work now. No reason to leave the base unless it was a mission, no reason to pretend he was fine unless Jack or Ana came around, and no reason to go back to his room. He would likely get back to work and fall asleep at his desk. Again.
Before Gabe’s fingers reached the keyboard the phone rang and he froze. A call? This time of night? “Nothing good comes from a ringing phone at 2:30 in the morning,” he sighed. “What atrocity am I dealing with tonight?”
The HR department’s extension number registered in Gabe’s mind just as he hit the speaker button. “Fuck,” he hissed. Human Resources. Someone on the team had made a mess. Pollas en vinagre.
“Good evening, Commander Reyes,” came a tense voice clearly trying to play it cool.
“It’s morning, miss, and I’m getting a call from HR, I doubt anything about this is ‘good.’ Just tell me what’s going on,” he grumbled, rubbing his eyes.
“The local hospital called, sir, they are asking you to head there right away,” the woman said hurriedly.
“I swear to God,” he growled. “Who did it? Who ruined my night this time?” Then again, his night had been shit long before this.
The woman on the other end hesitated and Gabe grew concerned. These calls were nothing new, and no one had ever struggled to give him the news quite like this.
“Is someone dead,” the commander asked gravely.
“No, no,” she clarified, sounding worried, “but there was a close call. With a woman named Angelica . . .”
He reeled. “Ruby? Why the hell are you calling me about her? That woman is no longer my concern and I intend to keep it that way.”
“I understand that, sir, and I told the hospital that but they thought – ” She faltered again. “They thought you might be concerned with the baby she’s carrying.”
Gabe suddenly felt very cold and his fingertips felt as if they were being pricked by needles. Baby? Baby? When the fuck had that happened . . . It couldn’t be his, could it? Yeah, they had been screwing a while ago, but – holy shit. Holy shit. He had probably gotten her knocked up.
He took a deep breath and forced the panic away from his mind. “Is this Lydia,” he asked the woman on the other end.
“Yes, sir.”
“Have you told anyone else about this?”
“No, sir.”
“Good, good,” he huffed. “Don’t. I’m leaving now, but I’ll be back as soon as I can and sort things out then.”
“Sure thing, Commander,” she agreed, “I’ll tell everyone you’re handling some Blackwatch business. They know better to ask anything more after that. Except for your agents, they might be suspicious, but I’ll keep them off your tail as long as I can.”
“Thanks, Lydia. I owe you,” Gabe moaned.
“No problem, and, uh, good luck.”
He laughed dryly, “Thanks, think I’m gonna need it.”
They both hang up and Gabe headed for the door, throwing on a hoodie with shaking hands. The cab ride was excoriatingly long, giving the man plenty of time to scream at himself for ever getting together with Ruby in the first place while subsequently praying she wasn’t hurt too bad. For the baby’s sake. “Baby,” he whispered in the back seat. “There’s a baby and it’s mine. Maybe.” He should have asked Lydia what had happened. Sitting here, wondering what had put his pregnant ex in the ER was killing him. He darted out of the car before it actually stopped.
A grumpy man behind a desk pointed him in the right direction. The two of them had seen each other before, usually when one of his agents got drunk and roughed someone up – or got roughed up themselves, but the nurse seemed particularly judgmental tonight. Guess he had reason to be. There was a doctor closing the door to Ruby’s room as he approached.
“Excuse me, ma’am,” Gabe said, his voice slightly more high pitched than usual, “is Rub- Angelica in there?”
“Yes, she is,” the doctor nodded brow slightly pinched in a way that made Gabe feel weak. “You must be the father?”
“Um, yes,” he choked out, “I guess I am.”
“You didn’t know about this,” she asked in surprise.
“No, I had no idea. I would have . . . No, I didn’t know.” Gabe couldn’t say exactly what he would have done if he had known about all this earlier, but he would like to believe he could have kept Ruby out of the hospital at least.
“Well then,” the doctor began, seeming satisfied, “I’m glad you got here so quickly. Perhaps you can help us figure a few things out. She’s being uncooperative.”
“Sounds right,” Gabe sighed. “I’ll tell you anything I can, but I haven’t seen her in around half a year.”
“I see,” she frowned at the chart in her hands. “Was she taking any illegal narcotics when you last saw her? And please, be honest.”
“Na-narcotics,” he gaped. “No! Ruby likes to get a little wild, party harder than most, but I never saw her taking any heavy drugs. Not once.”
“She is now,” the doctor said pursing her lips, “and she’s clearly not been taking care of herself or the fetus in any other way. I’m stunned we haven’t seen her in here before now.”
Gabe felt cold all over again, but it permeated deeper this time. He swallowed hard. “The baby’s okay though, right?”
She pursed her lips and looked away a moment. “There’s still a heartbeat, but it’s not as strong as it should be, and the mother is very malnourished, meaning the child is too. In all honesty, you’re lucky there hasn’t been a miscarriage. We would like to do some testing and a proper ultrasound but she keeps fighting us. We’re worried that if we force anything we will hurt her or the baby.”
Gabe ran his fingers through his hair and hunched over. “Christ, Ruby, what the hell happened?”
“Look,” the doctor sighed, losing a bit of her professionalism, “she’s awake now and she’s said your name a number of times so maybe you can get through to her, convince us to let us help her. She has an IV she keeps messing with but she NEEDS it. That baby needs it, too. If you can calm her down that would help a lot.”
He scratched his scruffle and nodded despite his lack of faith. “I’ll do what I can.” She stepped out of the way and allowed Gabe to see the patient.
Ruby was almost unrecognizable. Her hair had been dyed some unnatural shade of black, her skin was marred with scabs and scratches, her face was hollowed and limbs unsettlingly thin. If it weren’t for that trademark red lipstick Gabe would have thought he was in the wrong room. A thin blanket was covering her lower body, but he could see the shape of a large bump at her midsection. “Mierda, Ruby, what have you done to yourself?”
She leaned her head up and scowled. “What are you doing here, goody two shoes?”
He came closer slowly, timidly, and leaned on the foot of her bed. “Docs called me. Said you were asking for me.”
Ruby scoffed and pulled her covers closer. “There’s no way I did that.”
“I sure as hell haven’t been keeping tabs on you anymore,” he said flatly, “you must have said something.”
“They were drilling me for an emergency contact,” she muttered, “musta let something slip.”
“I’m glad you did,” Gabe murmured more gently before looking from a nasty bruise on his ex’s arm to her face. “You should have told me, Rube, about the baby. You should have told me.”
They stared right into each other’s eyes, both refusing to give in. She had an awful glare, but it began to slip, bit by bit until she was biting her lip as tears formed in her eyes. “Don’t you fucking chide me, Gabriel,” she spat, “don’t you dare.”
“What do you expect me to do,” he said coming around to the side of her bed, “you’re pregnant, really pregnant, and I had no idea! Why didn’t you tell me?”
She picked at the nubs of her chipped, bloody fingernails. “Didn’t see the point – if this thing survives I’ll be dumping it off at an orphanage as soon as the cord’s cut.”
Gabe lost it, gripping the rail on her bed and leaning over Ruby as she jolted in shock. “What the fuck do you mean, if the baby survives?! Were you trying to kill it? And yourself? Is that why you picked up a needle and started jabbing yourself? WHY?! Ruby, I could have helped you. If you didn’t want the baby that’s your call, I would have accepted that, but pumping yourself full of poison and starving yourself is not okay. That’s not fair to our kid. It’s not their fault you got knocked up, it’s mine. Punish me if you want, but don’t become a junkie and torture yourself like this. Please. You’re better than this.”
“Gabe,” she whispered, wiping the tears from her cheeks and trembling, “I’m not better than this and you know it. I know I should have told you but I couldn’t. I don’t know why, but I just couldn’t! That fucking pregnancy test came back positive and I just spiraled out of control. Christ, I hardly even remember the past few months. It’s like I just kept getting bigger and no matter what I did this thing kept living and every part of me kept hurting. I’m sorry Gabe, I am, but – but – ” She began to sob and shake, hands clamped over her mouth as she tried to control herself.
“Alright, alright,” he said softly, “deep breaths.” Gabe was still irate, but he wasn’t going to be cruel and berate Ruby while she was lying in the ER. He rubbed her shoulder until she stopped hyperventilating. She looked exhausted, as if the outburst had drained the last of her energy.
“This baby is better off never being born,” she whimpered, “I’m sure she’s already sick and rotten like me, and we all know I shouldn’t be a mother. I don’t want to be one.”
“No one is going to force you be a mom, Ruby. Honest, but that little guy is pretty big now, I don’t think an abortion is an option anymore.”
“It’s not,” she groaned. “I don’t know what to do now.”
“Well, I’m hoping you’ll try to take better care of the baby until its born and I take over,” Gabe said firmly. She frowned up at him.
“You’re going to take her? Mr. Overwatch man who has no time? The guy who got together with me because he didn’t want to get serious with his lady?”
“Things are different now,” he said somewhat aggravatedly, “it’s not Nora harping at me, there a kid. My kid. A kid who didn’t ask for any of this and needs me. I’m not saying I’m going to be father of the year, but I’m going to try.”
She eyed him thoughtfully for a long minute before sighing, sounding relieved. “You’ll take good care of ‘em,” Ruby nodded. “They’ll be okay with you.” Her eyes closed and she buried into her pillow.
“Hey,” Gabe said encouraging her to stay awake, “you gotta let these doctors know you’ll work with them, okay?”
“Fine,” she griped, rolling over onto her back. Her stomach looked massive on her withered body.
He hit the nurse call button, still staring at her belly. “Uh, Rube?”
“Yeah?”
“How far along are you?”
“I dunno, maybe seven months? Maybe more?”
“Wait,” he said pursing his lips, “you broke it off with me when you were already pregnant? Did you know?”
“Shut up and go find the doctor,” she snapped, waving him away with a disgruntled look. He knew better than to press the issue at this point. Besides, no changing it now. He’d be less pissed if he kept thinking about the future and not how things could have been.
There was some discussion, some paperwork, and a lot of Ruby rolling her eyes, but in the end, Gabe was given access to his ex’s medical information – he would be kept informed at all times on the status of both patients.
“Is there anything else you need from me,” Gabe asked.
“No,” Dr. Faraday, the woman from the hall, replied, “everything should be in order. We will let you know once the test results come in and when an ultrasound is scheduled. For now, Ms. Cotter needs to get some rest, we’ll start treatment tomorrow.”
“Thank you,” he said with a small smile. “Can I have another minute with her? I’ll be out soon, I promise.”
“So long as you keep it short,” she agreed, leaving the room. Ruby yawned and glanced to Gabe.
“What else do you want,” she asked sleepily. “I really don’t want to talk about this anymore.”
He leaned on the bed again, hands in his pockets. “All I want to say is thank you for being amicable about all this. I’m not going to condone what you’ve done, but I’m glad you’re trying to make it right.”
“Yeah, yeah,” she huffed, “I’m just glad it will be over soon.”
“If at any point you want to change your mind, if you want to see your baby – ”
“No,” she all but yelled. “I don’t want anything to do with either of you after it’s born! I’m putting all this behind me, like it never happened.”
“Okay, okay.” Gabe knew he should leave, let her be, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. There was just one more thing he –
“What is it, Gabriel,” Ruby growled, “I know you want to say something. Just do it so I can go to bed!”
“I was hoping I could, maybe,” he fumbled.
“Spit it out.”
“Could I  . . . feel your stomach? Just once? I’ll understand if you say no, but – ”
“Will you leave if I say yes?”
“Yes.”
“Then go for it. Little shit won’t stop moving around so you may as well do it when I can’t ignore the kid.” She pulled her blanket down and exposed a filthy crop top and some unbuttoned jeans surrounding her mostly bare belly. There were bruises and what looked like cigarette burns on her tight skin. Gabe was equal parts enraged and entranced. His little mijo or mija was in there. A goofy smile blossomed under his curly mustache.
He placed his palm gently on a patch of unmarred flesh and rubbed his thumb along the curve of her stomach. “Hang in there, conejito,” he murmured.
One soft little pat thumped against Ruby’s skin just to the right of Gabe’s hand. He laughed and moved his hand to the spot and the baby kicked right in the center of his hand. “That’s my girl.”
Ruby squirmed awkwardly and yanked the covers over her. “I’m tired,” she said in a voice so meek Gabe hardly believed it came from the party animal.
“Sure,” he said moving away, thumb rubbing the spot on his palm where his child had kicked. “Get some sleep and try to take is easy on the docs, okay? They’re trying to look after you, both of you.” She nodded and closed her eyes.
“And take care of my girl for me,” he said just above a whisper as he opened the door.
“Gabe?”
“Yeah?”
“You really think it’s a girl?”
He thought a moment. “Guess I do. Just a feeling.”
“Don’t name her after me.”
He held back a snort. “Alright.”
“And . . . make up a story about her mom. Something nice. Don’t let her grow up knowing what I did to her. That I was this shitty.”
“I’ll do what I think is right for her,” he said determinedly, “but I’ll be gentle when I tell her about you.”
“’Kay. Night, Gabe.”
“Night, Rube.”

Betrayal (Part 3) (Jonathan Morgenstern imagine)
Betrayal (Part 3) (Jonathan Morgenstern imagine)
 Pairing: Jonathan Morgenstern x reader
Warnings: abortion, not eating, substance abuse, weight talk A/N: y’all, I don’t know how much time it took for him to come back in the book, so I’ll do my own timeline
Part 1 | Part 2
-
Tumblr media
You didn’t go back to the Institute. The Seelie Queen herself found you wondering around the park, and offered you shelter. That took you by surprise, you knew what she was capable of.
You mostly kept to yourself, rarely leaving your room. She did go check up on you sometimes, but you discovered that Simon was her new boy toy. You were fond of him, he was funny and caring. But he reminded you of Clary, and reminding her just brought memories back like a flood.
After two months passed, you left the Seelie realm. You went back to Jonathan’s place… Well, it wasn’t really his place to begin with but you shared so many things there. As you walked in, you noticed that Sebastian’s family hadn’t come to the apartment yet, which was a good thing.
You picked up some sweaters, t-shirts and jackets. Sniffing them to make sure it still smelled like him. You folded everything nicely and placed it inside a bag. You also packed the cologne he wore, a book he would read to you to help you sleep, his pillow and his blanket. As you were walking out, you saw the huge picture frame that was filled with polaroid pictures.
“I miss you so much, my love” you whispered, slightly touching the pictures.
Hours later, you walked into the Institute. Everyone stopped to look at you. Their faces showed pity, few showed anger and even disgust. Ignoring them all, you walked into your room and locked the door.
Loud knocks snapped you out of your memory. Shaking your head, you walked into your bathroom and locked that door as well. You filled the bathtub with hot water and got in. “Y/N! Are you in here?” Alec screamed. His insistent knocks were louder by the second. Almost to the point of breaking down the door.
“Open the door!” Someone else. Jace. They left after a while, finally realizing that you weren’t going to let them in the room.
When the water got cold, you got out and dried yourself. You put on one of his sweaters. You smiled as you looked in the mirror. His favorite sweater. “Darling, have you seen my jumper?” Jonathan called out, looking around the closet. In that moment, you were in the bathroom. Wearing what he was looking for. “Uh, didn’t you throw it in the wash?” You asked him, trying not to laugh. “The wash is empty. There’s nothing there” he replied, sitting down on the bed. You opened the door quietly, his back was facing you. You cleared your throat and he turned around. “Is it this one?” You asked him shyly, biting your lip. In a split second, he was in front of you. His hands slowly went from your waist up to your cheeks, and he kissed you.
“You look so good in my clothes. But you look better without them” he said cheekily. You blushed.
“Help me take it off?”
Another two months went by. Just like in the Seelie realm, you almost didn’t leave your room. The only times you did was just to go grab water from the kitchen. You had skipped tons of missions, to the point that the Inquisitor sent you a warning because of it.
The next day you woke up to the alarm. Demons were wondering around the city. You put on a baggy hoodie and sweats, not really caring how you looked. When you reached the main room, your friends looked at you surprised. Izzy was going to hug you but she decided against it when she saw your face. She would talk to you later.
“There are Ravener demons in Queens. Some are inside a high school and the others are in a park” Izzy informed us, everyone surrounding the table. You stood close to Alec, but someone Jace was standing next to you.
“Inside a high school, that’s just great” Alec said sarcastically.
“It’s going to be easy guys” Clary assured them. You started getting cross-eyed, but you shook your head to make it go away. Then you started seeing double. You turned your back to them, still holding the table for support. “You okay?” Jace asked you worried. With your free hand you dismissed him, basically telling him you were okay. He saw how your eyes rolled to the back of your head and you almost fell back but he grabbed you just in time. “Y/N! ”
“Call a medic!” Clary screamed.
“By the angel!” Izzy screeched as she watched your body. Your skin looked almost light grey, dark circles under your eyes, your face looked almost hollow. The worst thing of all, was that your body weight changed drastically. You were mostly skin and bones.
“Jace hurry” Alec rushed him. He picked you up and ran towards the infirmary. There was a medic there and few nurses. Jace set you down on the bed, and then he and the others were pushed outside.
Almost an hour later, they were allowed to come back inside.
“How is she?” Izzy asked. “Will she be okay?”
“She hasn’t been eating” the doctor replied. Alec was taken aback, his eyes widened.
“We see her going to the kitchen a lot, she at least drinks a lot of water” Clary told him.
“Of course she has” he sassed.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Jace barked at him.
“There’s Yin Fen in her system. A lot of it.” Izzy gripped Clary’s hand, immediately feeling guilty.
“Yin Fen? That’s impossible, every container Aldertree had was thrown away” Izzy told him.
“This was in silver powder, it can be dissolved with water” the doctor informed them. “She has been using this for months, her body is dependent of it. I don’t really know how she has gone this long without actually eating.”
“Can she be saved from it?” Clary asked.
“It will be hard… but that is the least of our worries.” “What do you mean?” Alec question, getting impatient.
“She’s pregnant.”
They went silent.
“So the girl is pregnant” Imogen Herondale appeared suddenly.
“Apparently she is” Jace muttered.
“Is it Valentine’s grandson?” She asked the doctor. He nodded. “Get rid of it.”
“No!” Izzy yelled.
“You can’t be serious” Jace argued.
“Get. Rid. Of. It.” She repeated.
“Yes ma’am” the doctor said, he was clearly afraid of her. “Please move outside… so we can do the procedure.” Guards came and took everyone out when they started protesting.
The next day, you woke up to people talking around. Confused, you looked around and saw you were hooked up to an IV. The Inquisitor was there, along with Jace, Izzy, Alec, and Clary. There was a doctor as well. You felt something cold in your stomach. There was a clear gel on it, they were doing an ultrasound on you.
“What’s going on?” You voice was groggy, your throat felt dry.
“See?” the doctor said, pointing at the screen, ignoring your question.
“Perfect” the Inquisitor smiled. She looked down at you. “We took out your demon.”
“What?” Now you were confused.
“You were pregnant…” Clary told you.
“What?” You said again, a strange feeling in your heart. Jonathan’s baby.
“Don’t get too excited sweetheart, there’s nothing there” she informed you.
“What did you do to my baby?” You questioned, anger running through your veins.
“Isn’t it obvious? Get rid of it” she walked towards the door, not even bothering to face you. Out of the corner of your eyes, you spotted scissors. Ripping your IV out, you threw yourself on top of her, stabbing her in the shoulder.
Jace and Alec grabbed your arms before you could choke her and pulled you back. you growled loudly, almost demon like.
“Take her to a cell!” The Inquisitor yelled. “Get her ready, she’s going to Idris.”
After dressing you, they locked you inside the cell. The doctor had another IV on you, which contained Yin Fen to keep you calm. But you didn’t care about that. They took your baby away. Jonathan’s baby. You grabbed your necklace carefully, feeling thankfully that no one took it off. You held it and cried.
You cried the tears you held back for months. Part 4

Never Let Me Go [30/37]
A/N: Next update will be March 1st. The hospital in this chapter is completely made up. I don't have internet at home, and Broken Telephone Googling was coming up with some weird results, so I decided to create a fictional hospital instead, just in case any Kelowna-dwellers happen upon this story :P (And I promise that the Otabek POV chapter/s are coming, I haven't forgotten.)
Chapter Twenty-Nine – Our Baby
Thunder rolled over the house—their home, but instead of it feeling like some sort of ill omen to Yuri, it was calming, like a cooling salve on a burn.
The glass doors that looked out on the lake showed the body of water rippling distantly with the rush of summer rain, while inside the family had gathered around the fireplace with mugs of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and a plate of store-bought cookies to replace the homemade ones Minami and Phichit had tried to make, and quickly threw out when Yuri began to gag on the scent of orange and cranberry on the air. They all seemed to know that the violent reaction was not a Pregnancy Thing, but rather a response from his time with the trainer, but it appeared as though no one had the nerve to ask him about it, for which Yuri was grateful.
Otabek, in contrast, seemed to be completely fine, which was very strange, given what Yuri knew about what he had gone through, and his actions immediately following their escape.
Otabek was quiet, reserved, and he seemed much more focused on helping Yuri than himself. Every time Yuri tried to broach the topic, Otabek would shut down, like he was some sort of robot whose batteries had run out.
Tonight however, after nearly a month in the new country, both Otabek and Yuri were doing well. The TV was off, and the triplets were their entertainment for the evening. All three of them were lying on a blue baby blanket in the centre of the room; Yuriko was on her back, her little legs and arms flailing excitedly, Viktoria on her belly and wiggling like a fish out of water, and Antonia was still, staring around at the adults with wide eyes while she suckled on her dummy.
Yuuri was stretched out on the ground next to his girls, smiling indulgently while he watched them, and Viktor was on the love seat, a similar expression on his face while he observed his omega. As Yuri was privy to the sweet scene before him, he began to wonder if Otabek would ever look like that once their little one was finally born. Yuri placed a hand on his stomach out of habit, and Otabek covered it with his own, his thumb brushing over the skin gently, lovingly, while another roll of thunder sounded from outside. Makkachin whined at the sound, and burrowed under Viktor's legs, making the alpha laugh as he was tipped over by the dog.
Yuri rested his head on Otabek's shoulder as he watched the little scene before him, and Otabek moved his other hand to Yuri's hair, his fingers trailing idly through the locks while they watched the babies.
“You nervous about tomorrow?” Otabek asked softly, his opposite hand rubbing Yuri's belly gently as he spoke, and Yuri winced as their child gave his innards a familiar, swift kick.
“You mean for the ultrasound?” Yuri asked, and Otabek nodded. “No. Are you?”
“A little,” Otabek replied, “nervous...but excited. I want to see our baby.”
The words our baby left Yuri feeling warm and content, like the sense of perfect safety, and comfort food, and family all rolled into one. He looked around the room again, at his grandfather in an armchair reading one the the books they'd brought over from Russia, at Minami and Phichit on the sofa, talking quietly and giggling occasionally, their mouths spread into wide, happy smiles, and their fingers intertwined carelessly, as though it had taken no thought at all to share such a small embrace. At last Yuri glanced back to Viktor, Yuuri, and their girls. Viktor had moved to the floor with his omega—with Makkachin close on his heels—and Yuuri was laying with his head in the alpha's lap while they watched their children, indulgent, warm smiles upon their faces. It was a perfect sort of peace that surrounded him, and Yuri found it none too surprising that he no longer looked at these people as his friends or acquaintances, but as his family.
“I'm sorry you missed so much of...everything,” Yuri said suddenly, and Otabek blinked at him in confusion.
“What?”
“I mean...I know that you wanted this really badly, and I'm sorry you missed so much of it,” Yuri explained, his face tinting pink as he spoke.
“I'll be there for the rest of it, and that's okay with me, Yura,” Otabek murmured as he kissed Yuri's cheek and ran his palm over his stomach again. It was significantly larger now, and his belly button had begun to poke out, and Otabek sometimes had to help him stand up. He was still fairly small compared to how big Yuuri had been at six months, confirming for Yuri that he was probably—thankfully—only carrying one.
“I'll make sure you're there the whole time for the next one,” Yuri said as he rested one of his hands over Otabek's. “And I won't...” he trailed off, unable to finish the sentence.
I won't trick you this time.
“If you want, Yura,” Otabek said at last, and pressed a gentle kiss to his temple. “I would love that, to be there for you throughout everything, but do it for you, not just me. Okay?”
“Deal,” Yuri agreed, arching up to kiss Otabek lightly, and when he pulled back a moment later, he spotted Yuuri holding up a phone and grinning nervously, making it painfully obvious that he had just snapped a picture.
“Sorry,” Yuuri said, though he did not look or sound sorry at all. “You guys were just being so adorable, I couldn't resist.” He turned the phone around, and Yuri saw that the image, far from being gross or ridiculous, actually filled him with a strange sort of warmth.
Yuri saw himself, leaning to the side and curled up next to Otabek. One of the alpha's arms was slung over Yuri's shoulders, and the other was resting on the swell of his pregnant stomach. Yuri's hand was twined with his free one at his shoulder, and their lips were just barely touching, eyes closed, with dual looks of peace upon both of their faces.
“I think we should probably frame this,” Yuri said, and smirked a little when he watched Yuuri's shoulders sag with relief that he wasn't upset. “What do you think, Beka?”
“We could start one of those Family Picture Wall things,” Yuuri offered, smiling hopefully at the others who had all gathered around to look at the photo he'd taken, much to Yuri's embarrassment. “What do you think? Pictures of us, pictures of the kids, and just keep adding and adding...”
“I do believe I have some pictures of Yuratchka from when he was little...” Nikolai mused after he had taken a turn looking at Yuuri's candid snapshot of his grandson.
“Oh, I wanna see Baby Yuri!” Minami cried excitedly, and Otabek chuckled as Yuri went very red under all the attention.
“Me too! Me too!” Phichit added with the same level of excitement.
“No!” Yuri protested, but no one seemed to be listening as they chattered and joked, while Nikolai looked on with a warm, amused smile, clearly pleased at the chaos he had created with such a simple statement. “Grandpa, seriously, it's embarrassing.”
“I don't know, I think I wouldn't mind to see Baby Yuri either,” Otabek purred into his ear before he kissed Yuri's cheek, and he felt himself flush. Though Otabek's words had been far from what one might consider to be risqué, something about the way Otabek had spoken made Yuri's stomach flutter pleasantly.
“I don't mind if you see, but I don't think the rest of them need to—”
“Now, now, Yuratchka,” his grandfather admonished gently, “you're not being fair. If you let Otabek see your baby pictures, it's only right that the rest do too.”
Cheers surrounded the couple, and Otabek chuckled warmly as Yuri buried his red face in the crook of the alpha's shoulder.
~*~
The trip to the hospital the next day did not take long. Otabek was driving—amazingly, keeping to the speed limit this time—and the others had chosen to stay behind, but told the couple to bring back some prints of the ultrasound.
Twenty minutes of very careful driving later, they made it into the city. Otabek wove through the mild downtown traffic with the same nervous, Baby on Board type driving for a further ten minutes before they stopped outside a huge brown building that read, Kelowna General Hospital on the front, complete with a rendering of a huge brown bear on the left side of the entryway.
Otabek pulled into a spot near the doors, got out, circled the vehicle, and helped Yuri out of the car while the alpha asked, “ready, Yura?”
Yuri could feel people staring at them while they rushed in and out of the front doors, but Yuri wasn't sure if the stares were because pregnant omegas weren't a common sight in Canada, or from them speaking Russian in lieu of English or French.
“Yeah,” Yuri smiled and placed his hands on his stomach. “I wanna see our baby.” He paused, and looked up at Otabek with an imploring, pleading look in his eyes. “You'll do the talking, right? My English isn't very good for conversation.”
“I'll translate, it's no problem,” Otabek replied as he leant in to kiss Yuri lightly, and Yuri felt, once again, that distinct flutter in the pit of his stomach that had nothing to do with the baby.
They headed into the front doors, Otabek with one arm wrapped protectively around Yuri's waist as they stepped up to the reception desk, while Yuri leant into Otabek's side, appreciating the help as his back began to twinge from the weight of his pregnant stomach. Otabek spoke quickly, apparently sensing Yuri's discomfort, and the omega only caught a few words that he recognized—pregnant, doctor, country, new, no English.
The receptionist answered, speaking in a slow, bored tone as she pointed towards the left side of her desk, towards a long hallway. She flicked her pen a few times as she spoke, and Otabek nodded along so often it looked more like he was bobbing his head to a catchy song than listening to someone speak. After less than a minute of conversation Otabek thanked her, and led Yuri away.
“I asked her about our appointment,” Otabek explained before Yuri could ask, “she said we need to sign in first, which is up on the third floor, and they have a few multilingual clerks who can help us.”
“Oh thank God,” Yuri said as he leant against Otabek's side again. “The whole Not Understanding What's Going On thing was really freaking me out.”
“Maybe we should pick up some English books on the way home,” Otabek teased, and Yuri groaned. On top of everything else, learning a second language was not exactly high on his to-do list.
They took the elevator up to the third floor, and wove through Radiology and the Blood-Testing wing to a narrow hallway lined with doors that all read Admissions. On the far left was a line of seats, and a handful of people were waiting their turn, ticker numbers clutched in their hands.
Otabek led Yuri over to one of the chairs, and yanked a number from the machine before he joined his omega to wait their turn. Yuri glanced down at their number (seventy-eight), just as he heard one of the clerks call, “number sixty-three!”
Yuri sagged back into his chair with a small huff, and Otabek immediately rested a comforting hand on his knee.
They waited close to twenty minutes before their number was called, and Otabek was quick to ask about the multilingual clerks. Without missing a beat the woman picked up her phone, and she swapped herself out for an older gentleman who seemed to be of Asian descent.
“Hi,” the clerk said in Russian, though the lilt in his voice made Yuri suspect that he might be Vietnamese. “How may I help you today?”
“We have an appointment at two o'clock to see a radiologist for an ultrasound,” Yuri explained, “we haven't seen a doctor yet...erm, in this country.”
“Do you have a medicare card?” he asked, and Yuri nodded as he fished out his wallet and pushed the crisp plastic card across the table. Thanks in no small part to the OLF, all the paperwork that should have taken the better part of six months had been pushed through in a matter of weeks, and both Yuri and Otabek had all the necessary documents to keep the government from deporting them. Knowing that he was safe was a nice, albeit foreign feeling, one that Yuri was still getting used to.
“Okay, so I just need to get your hospital card set up, then I can send you on your way. So, let's see here...” he tapped a few keys on the computer he sat in front of as he said, “Yuri Plisetsky...age nineteen, birthday March 1st, 1999, sex, male, secondary sex, omega, civil status, bonded...born in Moscow, Russia, current address 2167 Collens Hill Road, Kelowna, British Columbia, Postal Code V1Z 2H8...Is that all correct?”
“We're not...” Yuri glanced at Otabek, “I mean...it's just that...” he felt his face heat up as he tried to come up with an explanation. Instead, the man smiled, and clicked his mouse a few times.
“Would Domestic Partnership be more appropriate?” he asked kindly, “it just means that you live together, but the omega is not necessarily marked.”
“Yeah,” Yuri replied as he relaxed a little. “That works.”
“All right, perfect,” the man said as he tapped away rapidly on the computer, filling in the necessary information. “All I'm missing then is a phone number and emergency number.”
Otabek gave his and Viktor's numbers, and less than a minute later Yuri was holding a new, white hospital card in his hands, while the clerk directed them back to the Radiology wing of the hospital. Yuri was too busy staring at the card to listen, but Otabek took it all in, so he wasn't worried.
As Otabek led Yuri from the Admission area and over to Radiology, he was already starting to dream about having a nap. He leant a little more against Otabek's side, staggering a little as he walked, and eyed the wheelchairs as they crossed out of the Admissions wing, but Yuri was quite keen to not draw more attention to himself, and instead resigned to the act of walking (or, more accurately, waddling) to Radiology with Otabek's arm at his waist.
Otabek took care of speaking to the receptionist while Yuri plopped down in one of the available chairs with a heavy sigh, and buried his face in his hands.
I wish I knew why I was so tired... Yuri thought as he stifled a yawn, maybe I'm just stressed. I used to get sleepy instead of stressed, so maybe that's it...
“Tired?” Otabek asked as he sat down, and Yuri responded by resting his head on Otabek's shoulder.
“When we get home I think I need a nap...” Yuri mumbled, his eyes shut, and he felt Otabek's shoulder tense. Yuri blinked in confusion and opened his eyes, gazing up at Otabek in confusion. “Something wrong?”
“No,” Otabek replied quickly, and Yuri eyed him quizzically. “Seriously, it's nothing.”
Yuri didn't believe him, but decided it might be better to not push, and closed his eyes again to doze while they waited for their turn with the doctor.
It took less than ten minutes for them to be called, and a nurse in pale green scrubs led them down a narrow hall to a room with a plastic '10' on the door, and jabbered to Otabek in English for a moment while she waved vaguely at the available hard-backed chairs next to the ultrasound machine and reclining seat.
“Your English must be improving,” Otabek teased as Yuri waddled towards one of the chairs, “I didn't even need to translate for you this time.”
“When a nurse points at a few chairs it's not exactly rocket science to assume she means have a seat,” Yuri replied with a small snort. “What else did she say?”
“The doctor will see you shortly, blah, blah, blah, the usual,” Otabek said as he sat next to Yuri. “You know everyone is going to be really excited to see the ultrasound photos and everything when we get back, do you think you'll be up for that? You've been pretty exhausted ever since we got here.”
“Honestly? Probably not,” Yuri replied, and yawned again. “I just really really want to sleep, I don't even know why I'm so damn tired...”
“You're in your third trimester, baby,” Otabek murmured as he pulled Yuri into a gentle half-hug, and kissed the top of his head. “It's normal. When we get home you can sleep as long as you like.”
“Sounds like heaven,” Yuri mused as his lifted his head, and they shared a kiss just as the door snapped open and a doctor bustled inside.
The doctor and Otabek spoke back and forth, and Otabek gestured to Yuri a few times. Once more he caught a few words, no English, first doctor, Canada. It was enough that Yuri had a vague idea what they were discussing, but Yuri felt no better about the situation—the inability to understand was deeply uncomfortable, and Yuri hoped that the next time they showed up here, he would have mastered enough English to speak to the doctor himself.
Or cuss him out, if they showed up while Yuri was in labour.
“Yuri,” Otabek said while he brushed his hand over the top of Yuri's, drawing his attention back to the alpha. “She wants you to get into the chair and lift up your shirt, and to brace yourself because the gel she'll use for the ultrasound will be a little cold.”
Yuri nodded once, and reached for Otabek's hand properly. Their fingers laced together, and the doctor smiled as she watched Otabek help Yuri up, and they approached the reclining chair together. The omega eased back onto it while the doctor said something to Otabek, and he smiled, offering the back of Yuri's hand a quick kiss before he let it go, and stepped back over to the chairs they had been using before. Yuri was about to protest when he saw that Otabek was simply dragging one of them closer, enabling him to sit at Yuri's side. He took the omega's hand again and Yuri squeezed it lightly, while he used his free hand to tug his T-shirt up and over his baby bump.
The doctor smiled at him reassuringly as she snapped on a pair of rubber gloves, picked up a white tube, and said something that made Otabek laugh.
“What did she say?” Yuri asked, his breath hitching a little as she squeezed a sizable glob of cold blue gel onto his stomach.
“She said, 'let's see what's cooking in the oven.'”
“I don't get it. Is my stomach too hot?” Yuri asked, and Otabek snorted.
“No, no,” Otabek replied between chuckles, “it's just a phrase. It means, let's see how your baby is growing, sort of thing.”
“Oh.” Yuri felt his face flush in embarrassment, but he was quickly distracted when he saw the doctor pick up a white wand-like contraption, and flick on a little TV next to her. Yuri recognized it as the ultrasound machine, and his breath caught with nervous anticipation.
The doctor pressed the device in her hand to Yuri's stomach, albeit a little harder than Yuri had anticipated, and his gaze shifted to the screen.
A black and white, pixelated image bloomed into view, and Yuri blinked as tears came to his eyes. A rounded head, the body curled in on itself, a little fist up near the mouth, and the umbilical cord spiralling out of the image. The doctor spoke, and Otabek translated, “there's our baby.”
Yuri sniffed, and Otabek chuckled warmly as he wiped away Yuri's tears with his free hand. Yuri couldn't tear his gaze way from the image, the way the baby would shift, and at the same moment Yuri would feel a flutter in his stomach of movement, like his child was rolling over in sleep while they dreamt. The doctor moved the ultrasound-wand-thing, and they got another angle, and Yuri laughed a little as he gazed up at the child. Another tear streaked his cheek, and Otabek once again wiped it away.
The doctor spoke, and Otabek nodded. He turned to Yuri, but Yuri once again did not—refused to—look away from the image of his child. “The doctor wants to know if we want to know the sex, and that our baby looks fine, does not appear to be in any distress, and that you're about eight and a half months along, by her guess, and could go into labour at any time, but it could be another four weeks or so. She said you're going to start getting...um...practice labour pain soon, too, if you haven't already.”
“I want it to be a surprise,” Yuri replied as he shook his head, keeping his suspicions about the baby's sex to himself. “But if you want to know, she can tell you. I know what girl and boy is in English though, so make sure you whisper. Can you ask her how bad these practice labour pains will be? I don't remember anything like that happening yet.”
Otabek translated, and the doctor laughed warmly, as though it was a question she'd heard dozens of times before. She responded, and Otabek grimaced. Yuri swallowed nervously as he his eyes darted between the two, and when the doctor turned her back on them to jot something down on a piece of paper, Otabek moved to translate once more.
“She said it's not really pain-pain, but more like pressure, and that it's difficult to describe, but more intense than heat pain,” Otabek said, and Yuri grimaced. “She also said that if they last more than two minutes it's likely a real labour pain, and not one of the practice ones, and we need to come to the hospital when that happens.”
Yuri wanted to rub his stomach, but it was still covered in the blue goo. Instead he glanced back to the screen, where his baby was still displayed prominently, while Otabek got up and began to whisper with the doctor, and broke into a smile when she answered him. Yuri smiled as he watched his alpha, then glanced back to the image of his child. The idea of more pain scared him, but somehow seeing his child like this, he knew that it would be worth it.
~*~
On the way out of the hospital, a cream manila envelope in hand sporting the pictures of the ultrasound and a USB key with the digital versions, Otabek surprised Yuri with a treat.
“Just one won't hurt the baby, I double-checked with the doctor,” Otabek said with a warm smile as he offered Yuri a paper coffee cup, dark brown with an oval-shaped logo in red on the side. “You said you were tired, right?”
Coffee.
A swell of emotion filled Yuri's chest as he accepted the cup, and he sniffed sharply as Otabek stared at him.
“Yura?” Otabek asked uncertainly, “are you okay?”
“Oh, Beka,” Yuri sniffled between pathetic half-sobs, “this is just...just...so nice. You're so thoughtful. I love coffee...oh, and you.”
“Do I come in second to coffee?” Otabek asked teasingly while he produced a tissue, and Yuri mopped his streaming eyes.
“Only because I need to limit how much coffee I drink right now, and you I can have as much as I want,” Yuri replied between sniffles. “I—I'm sorry, I don't even know why I'm so damn weepy...”
“It's the hormones,” Otabek explained patiently, “makes you react...differently, sometimes. I once saw a pregnant omega making pasta and crying because the bubbles were just so fluffy, so this is nothing.”
Yuri laughed weakly, and leant into Otabek's side as he flipped open the plastic tab on the cup, and the sweet aroma of the dark roast filtered up into his nose. He let out a tiny moan as Otabek began to steer him towards the exits, mumbling something about them having another appointment next week, while Yuri sipped on his coffee, savouring it like it had been a gift from the Gods.
While Yuri nursed his drink, Otabek's left arm still around him, his right hand was tightly gripping his phone, and he was texting vigorously. Yuri craned his neck, trying to see who he was texting, but the moment that Otabek spotted him, he casually lifted his phone higher and tilted the screen away from him. Yuri scowled.
“Who are you texting?” Yuri asked.
“No one,” Otabek replied quickly—too quickly, Yuri noted. He frowned, and Otabek mirrored the expression immediately. “Come on, Yura, don't look at me like that. If I tell you, it'll spoil the—the thing.”
“Spoil the what?”
“Nothing.”
“You're a terrible liar, Beka.”
“I love you?”
“Yeah, I love you too, but that's not the point—who are you texting?”
“No one!”
“Well, obviously no one has a lot to say,” Yuri said sourly, and Otabek frowned.
“That's not fair,” he said, “I promise it's nothing bad, and you'll find out soon enough, but if you find out early, I'll be in big trouble.”
“In trouble with who?”
Otabek didn't answer, and just went back to texting. Yuri huffed, but Otabek did not engage him in any more conversation as they wove back to the car.
Yuri huffed, irritated that he wasn't in on...whatever it was, but Otabek was being infuriatingly stubborn, and even when Yuri went on his tiptoes to try and see the screen, Otabek simply lifted the phone higher, and out of his line of sight. Asshole.
Yuri drank his coffee in silence, his expression sour, and winced when the baby kicked him in the bladder. Otabek didn't respond, and instead tucked away his phone as they got into the car and drove off in silence.
Otabek flicked on the radio when it became obvious that Yuri was too annoyed to talk to him, and a marathon of The Ramones escorted them home, Yuri tapping his foot along to Do You Remember Rock N' Roll Radio? as they went, and the sweet sounds of the '70s punk did help him to calm down a little—though he was still mad at Otabek for keeping him in the dark.
When they pulled up outside the house, Yuri blinked with confusion, and Otabek smirked knowingly. A cluster of balloons had been tied to the iron banister just outside the front door—pink, light blue, and spring green. Colours, he knew, that signified both baby girls and boys, as well as baby alpha, beta, and omega.
“What's going on?” Yuri asked, but instead of answering, Otabek merely smiled knowingly.
“Come on,” he said, “let's get inside.”
Otabek killed the engine and got out, circling the vehicle as Yuri unbuckled himself, grabbed the prints of the ultrasound as well as his mostly-finished coffee, just as Otabek opened the door for him.
Yuri asked again what was going on, but Otabek didn't answer as he wrapped an arm around Yuri's waist and guided him to the door. Now, he had a vague suspicion as to what was happening, and as he opened the door his guess was immediately confirmed by the blast of noise that followed.
“SURPRISE!”
Yuri blinked, staring first at the grinning faces of Yuuri, Viktor, Minami, Phichit, and his grandfather all bearing gifts in bright paper, all of whom were surrounding him, to the decorations that had been tacked to the ceiling and walls—sparkling garlands, tendrils of twisted streamers in more pink, blue, and green, the dinner table was heavy with finger food, along with an enormous, rectangular cake, and still more gifts in the living room opposite, all of which completely obscured the coffee table. The triplets were in their baby pen, more or less ignorant to the festivities, though they did begin to squeal excitedly at the shout of noise from the front of the house.
“What's...what's going on?” Yuri asked, and though, internally, he knew what this was, the question still slipped past his lips before he could stop it.
“What does it look like?” Minami asked with a wide grin. “It's your baby shower!”
“Surprise,” Otabek added with a smile of his own, and Yuri couldn't help it—he grinned too.

Chapter 37 - 29 weeks pregnant
You laid on the hospital bed smoothing your tummy, while Sam sat on the bed with you, his arm around your shoulder and other hand holding yours. You had been hospital for almost a week now. Sam refuses to leave you alone so he was sleeping on the chair next to your bed, he went to the home to shower and change clothes and your friends were with you meantime, he didn’t want to be alone for a second.
Now you were waiting for doctor to come to made one last ultrasound before he let you to finally go home. You and Sam talked with the doctor and you choose to have a 3D ultrasound, to see the babies properly and see that they really were okay.
You were really worried, you haven’t felt the babies move since you woke up after the accident. Doctors and nurses told you that the babies were alright but you were still afraid that there was something wrong since there was no movement for almost a week.
Your mind wandered, and Sam noticed it. He got up from the bed, and pulled the chair right next to it and sat down, without letting his hand go from yours.
“You okay babe?” He moved the chair little closer so he could lean the bed with his elbows. You nodded slowly and sighed deeply. There was one thing going on your mind after the accident, and you wanted to share it with Sam, even there was a change that he think you were crazy.
“I saw something.” You whispered. Sam smoothed your knuckles gently.
“When?”
“When I was unconscious I saw something.”
Sam waited and kissed your hand, asking you to share him what you saw. You sighed deeply and closed your eyes, like you tried to see it again.
“When I lost my consciousness. It was dark. Very dark. I was sure I was dead. There was absolutely nothing around me, no sound, nothing.”
Sam kept smoothing your knuckles and waited, he knew what you meant, he was rounded that darkness too.
“Then, I heard a laugh. Little boys laugh.”
Sam’s heart skipped a beat and he raised his gaze to look your face, your eyes were still closed and you took a deep breath. He had a feeling what you were going to tell him, but was that even possible?
“He called me mommy. He called me. Like he was inviting me to somewhere. Then I saw a flash of little boys face.”
You smoothed your tummy while smile raises to your lips when you remembered that little boy’s face. You swallowed the lump away from your throat when you open your eyes and turned to look at Sam.
“I think it was our son. I think we are having a son.”
Sam rubbed his face with his palm and brushed his hair with his fingers before he took a deep breath. You looked at him and wondered how he probably thought you were crazy.
“You think I’m crazy.” You nodded, and wonder that you should have not said anything.
“No. I won’t. I think we are having both.” Sam said and rubbed his jaw.
“What do you mean?” You lifted your head from the pillow and looked at him more intently. Sam looked you back and rubbed his stubble on his throat before he put his hand on your stomach and smoothed it softly with his thumb.
“I saw a little girl. Just before I woke up in an ambulance.”
You stared at Sam with your eyes wide, when the doctor came inside with the ultrasound machine. Your heart started to race on your chest when you tried to figure what that meant? Why you saw a little boy and Sam saw a little girl? Did that mean something? Was that a sign that you are having both? Were those actually your babies who you saw? Was that even possible?
The doctor prepared you, putting the gel on your stomach and starting to examine you and Sam took his hand away from your tummy. You squeezed Sam’s hand while looking down at your stomach with your brows furrowed. It sounded impossible.
Soon the doctor turned the monitor to you, and you heard your babies heartbeat. Both were strong and loud. You looked at the monitor, seeing your babies faces more clearly with the 3D picture. You can already see their features, their nose, jaw.. And they looked so beautiful. You squeezed Sam’s hand, while Sam kissed your knuckles when you two looked at your two little miracles.
The doctor told that everything looked fine and you were ready to go home, but if you start to have any constructions or you started to bleed, you need to come back to the hospital right away.
There was a good change that babies survive if they choose to born soon, but they hoped that they would stay inside for six more weeks. They told you you need to take really carefully for the next weeks, avoid any stress and keep yourself calm.
You listened intently every word what the doctor told you while nodding your head and looking your babies on the monitor.
“What sex are they?” You asked and Sam’s gaze snapped to you. Earlier you didn’t want to know the sex of the babies so he was surprised that you wanted to know now, but he had a pretty good feeling why you wanted to know now. The doctor looked the monitor, moving the scan on your stomach.
“Here’s a boy.” He pointed the screen. Sam’s heart skipped a beat, was there no princess to him? The doctor moved the scan a little to see the other baby better.
“And. Here’s a girl.”
You turned to look at Sam with a huge smile on your face, while tears started to roll down your eyes. Sam put his hand on your stomach and smoothed it with his thumb. You were having both.
“I told you there’s daddy’s little princess.” Sam smiled back at you, he was so pleased that he was getting his little princess. You sighed deeply and wiped your tears away, when there was a kick and both of your gazes snapped to monitor, looking how the babies moved.
“Which one kicked?” Sam wanted to know, he wanted to know if it really was his princess to reacting his voice.
“Little girl there is little more active than a boy.” The doctor smiled while he looked the monitor, seeing how your little baby girl was changing her position a little. Your little boy was calmer than his sister.
Sam got up and sat on the bed next to you again, kissing your hair while he looked how your little prince and princess were happily floating inside your tummy.
Police had investigated the accident, they had heard the witnesses, including Sam who told them what he remembered what had happened. How you were at the traffic lights and someone crashed your car from behind you and later another car smashed from the left side when your car had moved to the middle of the crossroad. They talked only with Sam, after doctor recommend that it was better to not to let you talk about the accident, so you avoid stress.
Police had told Sam, that they arrested the young male driver who drove to the back of your car, and that he is suspected of endangering traffic and driving a car under the influence of drugs. That they had interrogated him and that he had admitted his guilt. The driver of the white car who crashed your backdoor were no suspected for anything.
There has been truly an angel with you, with all four of you. That accident could have been really fatal, there was a really good chance that you could have lost the babies from the hit -  or the stress after the accident. Doctors were sure that your labor will start from the stress, and they were surprised that it didn’t happen.
The doctor turned off the ultrasound machine and told that nurse will come to prepare you to finally go home. He shook both of your hands, wishing you all well and that the babies will stay inside for a little moment.
When he walked out of the room, you and Sam stayed still on your hospital bed. You couldn’t wait to sleep again your own soft bed, you couldn’t wait to eat proper food or wearing your own clothes.
And start to finally properly prepare babies room for your little prince and princess.
A/N: Thank you for everyone for support, I seriously cannot thank you enough! But the sad fact is, that I have now little block here. Normally I had already an idea what happens on next chapter while I’m writing previous one. But now, sadly, I got nothing. And to finish this chapter was really hard already. I got the idea in my head, but couldn’t manage to wrote it down, I hope this chapter is not totally shit. Argh.
Maybe it is because this has become too big (well, not that big but to me this is big) and I start to have little pressure to made this good for you guys…
So I was thinking to having a little break with this. I hope you understand and support me still, and wait for a while so I continue this and we can have babies to the world :)
And well, since we know now the sex of the babies, I want YOU to suggest baby names ^^  I have couple names in mind, but I want to know what you guys have in mind to have little prince and princess name? Please, but your suggestions in your tags, or comment this post, or you can message me!
