This seems to be the first villain with superpowers that Superman has come up against -- so far he's just fought the regular injustices of society. It's also the first time he's struggled with a situation or been overpowered in any way. I just think that's interesting.

A ranking of DC’s super-intelligent gorilla supervillains
Since there’s apparently enough to make a list
#1: Gorilla Grodd, we love Gorilla City
#2 Mallah, he’a gay so he’s not last but I’m a Brain anti so,,,
#3 Ultra-humanite, super-intelligent gorilla supervillain
#4 King Solovar, Grodd’s brother (?) I don’t know enough about him to place him any higher
#5 Silverback, not even really a gorilla but a human brain in a metal gorilla suit so he gets an honorary mention

One Self, Many Forms: The Faces of Thorul. The Ultra-Humanite.
Once a normal (if wealthy) human scientist and businessman, Lionel Luthor’s sense of individual existence eroded as he aged and became obsessed with humans catching up with the being he felt to be their greatest enemy and threat: The Superman of Krypton.
Over the years, Lionel--now calling himself Thorul and leading the Thorul Society--became Ultimax, The Brain; a giant albino ape kidnapped from Gorilla City; Galatea, another of the human-made Kryptonian clones; a hollowed Coluan Brainiac drone; and Harold “Tex” Thompson, a caped hero and veteran known as Mister America, employed by Mitch Wacky after a bizarre plot involving Hitler’s brain failed to put the Thorulians in charge of the US Government.

That opening scene is still so disturbing to me. They woke him up just to tell him what evil things they were going to use his body and status to do and then cut his skull open while he was fully conscious.
And on top of that his brain was in a tank reliving over and over those last moments before having his brain scooped out of his head. Being tortured for who knows how long because it didn't say exactly when they saved him.
He was dickish to Pat in some of the flashbacks but idk how anyone could say he deserved all of that. It would've been interesting to see the real Sylvester in present day and how Joel might have played him differently.

Superman Villains - Ultra-Humanite
I wasn’t thinking about him at all until I watched Casually Comic’s Youtube video on the Ultra-Humanite a few days ago, and he jumped right to the forefront of my mind. It’s an interesting fact that he was set up to be Superman’s arch nemesis, and he’s regarded as DC’s first true super villain. He also has a pretty cool history, in universe, with the number of bodies he’s swapped between. Ultimately he places his brain into his most iconic body: the albino ape. As far as I’ve seen, its always referred to as just an “ape” and not a “gorilla,” but he’s often depicted as a gorilla, because DC loves their gorillas! However, there are a lot of gorilla characters, and the original drawings of the Ultra-Humanite don’t necessarily look like a gorilla. He’s much more lanky and hairy in the face, so I decided to depict him as an orangutan. Also, in looking for reference, I googled “intimidating orangutan” and immediately found one sporting the face you see on my Ultra-Humanite, so I knew I made the right choice.

Seeing Ultra-Humanite was 100 percent unexpected. I haven’t seen him since Justice League. I’m going to miss the stargirl writers so much
