Flaming Fist Outpost 3. Ubtao Shrine 3500x3500 The Flaming Fist have discovered a shrine with a statue of Ubtao upon it. The leader of this militia has decided to steal the statue to impress the higher ranks of the faction. Nearby Tribal Warriors consider the shrine sacred and protect it at all costs. Will the players aid the Flaming Fist to improve their renoun with the faction or aid the tribal warriors and be bestowed a temporary blessing? Desecrating the statue may bestow a curse, while aiding the tribal warriors may make an enemy of the Flaming Fists. The choice is yours!

tbh the information about the Lorcatha and the Skizziks is so scattered across episodes that I’m half tempted to, like, make a masterpost to collate it all in one place for references sake

Mah new D&D character, Daiyu Last-Name-Redacted, who is now an Earth Genasi Rogue-barian, avatar of death for Ubtao, and bad at talking to people.

Warlock Subclass: Otherwordly Patron - The Primeval
Your patron is a Primeval - a entity deeply connected with wilderness, nature and its inhabitants. Your patron might be a particularly wild archfey, a demigod of nature and hunt or a much darker entity of ancient stone altars and twisted roots that remembers the taste of sacrificial blood and fearful invocations for harvest and protection from nature’s wrath. Warlocks that make pacts with such patrons often live as tribal mediators between woodland creatures and mortals, but a number of these warlocks pledge their servitude to patrons of much darker dispositions. They bring not only the voice of nature, but also wield its wrath and its hunger. Examples of such patrons in the Forgotten Realms include Malar, a minor deity of hunt and lycanthropes, primordial patron of jungles of Chult, Ubtao, and The Nine Trickster Gods of Omu, demigod Nobanion the Lion, primal spirit Harooga; The Hag Mother and Naviask from the world of Exandria. A venerable archdruid of unfathomable age and power, a druidic circle and various greater nature spirits too can become patrons of this pact.
Expanded Spell List The Primeval lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
Primeval Expanded Spell List Spell Level Spell
1st                entangle, beast bond
2nd               summon bestial spirit, barkskin
3rd                plant growth, call lightning
4th                dominate beast, grasping vine
5th                wrath of nature, commune with nature
9th                storm of vengeance Bonus Cantrips At 1st level, you learn the primal savagery and thorn whip cantrips. They count as warlock cantrips for you, but they don't count against your number of cantrips known.
Tongue of Root and Fang Starting at first level, your patron instills in you the knowledge of wild ways. You gain proficiency in either Animal Handling or Survival and you can move through nonmagical difficult terrain without expending extra movement. In addition, beasts, monsters and plants can understand your speech, and you gain the ability to decipher their noises and motions. Most lack the intelligence to convey or understand sophisticated concepts, but a friendly creature could relay what it has seen or heard in the recent past. This ability doesn't grant you friendship with them, though you can combine this ability with gifts to curry favor with them as you would with a non-player character. Primeval Vengeance At 6th level, you can retaliate upon those who dared to injure you and yours. As a reaction, when you or a creature within 15 feet of you are damaged by a creature, you can call forth bloodthirsty vines, hungry animalistic shadows and other images to bind and devour enemy’s lifeblood. The creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw with your warlock spell DC and on a failure it becomes restrained and suffers 2d8 + your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1) of necrotic damage and cannot take reactions. At the start of your turn, while the creature is still restrained, you can cause it to suffer additional necrotic damage equal to half of your warlock level. At the start of its turn the creature can use its action to make a Strength saving throw against your warlock spell DC and on a success it frees itself. On a failure it suffers additional 1d8 + your Charisma modifier of necrotic damage. If the creature is at half or below its hit point maximum, the die increases to 1d10 in both cases. This feature's damage increases by one die when you reach 14th level, up to d10 and d12, and you can use it within 30 feet of you. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Gift of Wild Blood Starting at 10th level, you have become infused with nature’s vitality. You become immune to poison and disease. When you complete a long rest you regain all of your spent Hit Dice and remove an additional point of Exhaustion. In addition, your bond to your patron has sharpened your instincts and senses. When you make a Wisdom (Perception) check using your eyesight, smell or hearing, you make it with advantage and if you attack a creature you can't see, your inability to see it doesn't impose disadvantage on your attack rolls against it, if you are not deafened.
Sacrificial Invocation At 14th level, your understanding of natures' grand savagery and hunger allows you to offer its cycle a life as a sacrifice for power. As an action, when you kill a creature of a Medium size or greater within 60 feet of you, which you can see, you can turn its death further in your favor and choose any spell from a warlock, druid or ranger spell list, which can be cast as an action. Spell cast in this way is cast at 6th level and does not require components, including those with a gold cost and ravages the deceased creatures' body. The body of a creature consumed by this feature cannot be raised as undead and can be resurrected only by a wish spell, true ressurrection or by similarly powerful effects. Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.

Meanwhile, back in Chult... A lot has happened since last I’ve documented the Merry Band’s adventures trekking through the jungles of Chult....but needless to say we made our way up to The Heart of Ubtao, freed Santa Claus, said goodbye to our Chultan Guides that were there from the beginning and finally arrived at the Lost City of Omu...where we were quickly beset upon by a group of Yuan-Ti! #dungeonsanddragons #dnd #dndcharacter #andysuriano #5e #dnd5e #ipadpro #procreate #procreateart #sketch #meanwhilebackinchult #dndatpaulrudishsmountainkeep #andynd https://www.instagram.com/p/B7j2KdrjNw3/?igshid=1owukdrlaa3l1

Tomb of Annihilation
Episode 19:
The Dragon is just an EXP Sponge!
Tumblr media
After getting our asses beat last session, we were back in full swing this time. After gaining temporary power of flight from Kir Sabal, we started flying toward the mystical Heart of Ubtao. Soon we were ambushed by a young dragon named Bartaquilet, who wanted to make us his slaves. We temporarily went along with Bart until he fell asleep, where we went full on assault mode.
We chased him through the air, fired volleys of projectiles and even bound him to the ground using Tasha's Hideous Laughter. Our druid even turned into a Giant Constrictor Snake!
Bartaquilet was understandably overwhelmed, and got away from us this time, but next time, we'll slay Bart. Next time, we leave the Heart of Ubtao to explore the lost City of Omu.

I may have mentioned before how I’m not sure I’m going to use Ubtao as-is in my upcoming D&D game. He is too intertwined with and connected to Chult and the Forgotten Realms, and his preoccupation with mazes is probably fine for ToA but I’m kind of *shrug* about it.
What I like instead? In the Magic: The Gathering setting of Ixalan, there are five “Elder Dinosaurs” that are archetypal manifestations of powerful natural forces. (Let us forgive, for the moment, the fact that two of these are not really dinosaurs.)
Zetalpa, Primal Dawn - “ The sky takes flight and the earth trembles.”
Tumblr media
Tetzimoc, Primal Death
Tumblr media
Etali, Primal Storm - “The storm rages and the earth breaks.”
Tumblr media
Ghalta, Primal Hunger - “The earth walks, strongest of all.”
Tumblr media
Nezahal, Primal Tide
Tumblr media
Zacama, Primal Calamity
Tumblr media
Additionally, there are several creatures from the Rivals of Ixalan set with the type of “Dinosaur Avatar”. These seem to be manifestations of certain aspects of the sun, the creative, destructive and nourishing. More on that in a bit. Additionally, there is an Avatar that represents all three aspects in one, and then Zacama, who we saw above, is the literal embodiment (somehow) of the three-aspected sun.
Tilonalli, Burning Sun’s Avatar - “Tilonalli's searing rays carry the spark of life's eventual destruction as all light fades.”
Tumblr media
Ixalli, Verdant Sun’s Avatar - "Ixalli's fertile rays enliven us all. Each of us is a testament to the sun's strength and love."
Tumblr media
Kinjalli, Wakening Sun’s Avatar - “Kinjalli's encompassing rays herald new life in the moment of the sun's dawning."
Tumblr media
Gishath, Sun’s Avatar
Tumblr media
In Ixalan, the sun’s avatars and Zacama are all manifestations of a solar diety, the Threefold Sun. Its eternal enemy is Aclazotz, a Bat God who is a deity of night. This is pretty appropriate, since the Threefold God is associated with the indigenous Sun Empire of the Ixalan continent, who are fighting against vampiric conquistadors from across the sea. Yes, that’s cool. Ixalan is a great MtG setting, and it would make a fantastic place to set a D&D adventure. There’s a Planeshift: Ixalan pdf out there for free, and it is worth checking out. Dinosaurs, Vampires, Pirates, Merfolk, Chupacabras....Just as Chult was a tempting setting, Ixalan was also tempting, but ultimately I don’t think I’m going to commit to the setting entire, just steal some fun bits. These dinosaur avatars and elder dinosaurs will make a great addition. My thought at the moment is, just as the Sun’s Avatars are all manifestations of the sun, so perhaps the Elder Dinosaurs are all manifestations of a greater primal -- dare I say primordial? -- deity. Perhaps even Ubtoa?
Clearly there is some further work to be done there -- so let’s cast this post as a part one, and we’ll return to the subject soon.

He’d been reclining in his rocking chair when he watched the other mill around the couch, listening quietly to an audiobook. Kaddy abruptly sat up, leaning his cane over his lap and feeling the rounded tip of it with curiosity. “You mentioned getting visions too,” the younger Tiefling piped up, his fingers running over the reptilian head that formed the tip of the cane he usually used at home, “How’d that happen? You didn’t make a pact with something else, did you?”
The older man laughed at the insinuation, a harsh grating noise that seemed like he rarely did so. “No. They chose me,” he corrected, “It was my job anyway, investigating a series of vandalism reports on a shrine to Ubtao. Petty crime and all that, till one of the priests turned up murdered with the same graffiti spray painted on his corpse. The post wanted to cover it up but I pursued it, and then I started getting weird dreams. Sometimes it was shit that already happened, connected to the terrain of the place. Sometimes it was things in the future. It's like sticking your hand into a grab bag of memories to find out what'll happen next."
Kaddy tilted his head, shifting himself back up to pay attention to this. "Don't you ever want to escape from life, though? Through your visions and such, just run away from an otherwise drab and ordinary existence," he pointed out, curious but also wary of his answer, "You had to go for physiotherapy. You got sabotaged and lost your job. With the visions, can't you just withdraw and go back to those happier times?"
Yangchon scratched his head, before shrugging at the motion. "I'm happy with my lot in life. That's the pathos of the Deceiver, weirdly enough. You have to find your own path," he added, smirking and leaning back in his chair as it rocked (by Ubtao's mask, he was making himself sleepy with that), "Can't teach you how to lead your life, but visions are just visions. What matters is the actions you take after getting them, and that's not something a maimed leg would stop me from doing."
At this, the Tiefling scoffed quietly and returned to his audiobook, dissatisfied by the answer given. He continued to rock himself in the chair, the scenery around him morphing and shifting into forgotten creatures as he finally dozed.

Aspects of Ouroboros, the World Serpent
Ouroboros, the World Serpent, Draconic God of Adaptation, avoided conflict with his siblings by focusing on the Lyrik, and then on their mortal descendants the Sarruhk. As worship spread, and more reptiles entered the fray, Ouroboros split himself further and further down, until there was nothing left of the whole. These are his fragments:
Asmodeus/Ahriman: Either the eldest aspect of Ouroboros or his son. Twin of Jazirian.
Essylliss: Created in the form of a Lizardfolk for them to worship.
Jazirian: Either the eldest aspect of Ouroboros or his son. Twin of Asmodeus.
M’daess: Tasked to purify the souls of unclean sacrifices.
Merrshaulk: An evil aspect worshiped by the Sarruhk. Was eventually reborn as Sseth.
Parrafaire: The son of Shekinester and Jazirian, two fragments of Ouroboros (or one fragment and a child.).
Ramenos: A corrupted, toad-like aspect.
Semuanya: Fragment focused on survival; main Lizardfolk deity.
Shekinester: Five Aspect goddess of Nagas.
Sseth: A Yuan-ti rebirth of Merrshaulk.
Ssharstrune: Worshipped mainly by evil Nagas. Consumed by Shekinester.
Sss’thasine’ss: Slain by an elf god and subsumed by Talona.
Varae: Aspect of Sseth.
Interlopers: Some other deities have tried to move in on this pantheon, despite not being aspects of Ouroboros. They are as follows:
Dendar: Another child of Io, a god of dreams and nightmares.
Laogzed: A demon worshiped by Troglodytes.
Sebek: Son of Set, associated with crocodiles. Named (perhaps mockingly) for Sobek.
Sess'innek: A demon worshipped by Lizardfolk.
Set: Literally just Set from Egypt.
Ubtao: A primordial who claims responsibility for dinosaurs.
