so 96% of you wanted to see me do a redesign of mermista. and while i can draw, i've been stuck in an art block so i opted to just draw over her current design. i don't hate all of it so i'm not changing everything.
let me go through the complaints i do have about her design.
Tumblr media
first off, she does not look like royalty in the slightest. she just looks like some girl who likes the color blue. even the gold accents don't really help. i'm not saying she has to walk around in a gown and tiara but at least add something to her design to indicate that she's a princess?
secondly, those clown shoes are NOT IT. who even thought of that? they look uncomfortable and ridiculous, and doesn't make sense for her character design.
those sleeves/armor (??? i honestly don't know what those are) and gold gauntlets also do not look practical in the slightest. they look like they'd be a hindrance for a swimmer. and guess what, she still has them in her mermaid form.
Tumblr media
the OG mermista design wasn't the greatest but at least it looked like she could swim comfortably.
Tumblr media
so my objectives were:
give her outfit a more streamlined look so it would make sense for her powers
make her look like actual royalty and not some girl with a cool color palette
expand more on the indian-inspired design and reflect that in her usual outfit, instead of putting her in a saree-inspired dress for one episode and calling it a day (i say saree-inspired because it's not really a traditional saree, but more like a modern and slightly western rendition)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i made two versions of her redesign - one with a dupatta and one without. the dupatta, i understand, could be a hindrance in certain situations but i just wanted to give an example of how to take inspiration from a culture instead of just using it for brownie points. a dupatta is something indians would wear with their casual attire, mostly with salwars, unlike sarees which are generally reserved for special occasions (there are sarees that are casual wear, but they're still not the most convenient).
secondly, i gave her a headwear inspired from desi wedding attire and older indian tiaras. mind you, indian tiaras themselves are a lot more complex and beautifully crafted, but 1. it would take me ages to draw all the details and 2. i figured mermista would go for a simpler look, especially when she's not at her palace. also, while indian headwears are usually made with gold and jewels, i gave mermista's headwear pearls because.. pearls, oysters, ocean. mermaid vibes.
i changed the shoes and gave her a pair that are inspired by water shoes. i know that she would transform into a mermaid while swimming anyway, but these still look more comfortable without serving clowncore.
i replaced her gold accents with silver because the gold doesn't really mesh well with the teal, in my opinion. while indians are known for their love of gold, a lot of people nowadays opt for silver, because it is less expensive and more compatible with casual wear.
i highlighted the fishscale pattern in her outfit since you could barely see them in the original.
i gave her a bindi and the necklace that 80s mermista wore, as a tribute to the OG show, and the design is complete. i know that some of these may not be the easiest to animate but if they could animate perfuma's cape thing, entrapta's hair and a hundred different outfits for catra; this design is just child's play.
let me know what you think of the redesign and if you want me to do the same for the other characters!

Pavitr x fem reader
- Jealous HEADCANONS
Tumblr media
A/N: Apparently, Pavitr's costume and fighting style is inspired from Kerala, so I went with him also being from Kerala. (Malayalam is google translated)
Also read on AO3
Tumblr media
Pav Pooh is a uwu little jelly bean
It began even before you started dating. You were bffs so, naturally, you're invited to his house for Onam celebration.
Pav stands spellbound at your beauty as you'd worn the traditional off-white saree with golden border, your hair done and decorated with flowers. He's about to compliment you when his cousin beats him to it.
"Are all of Pav's friends gorgeous, or is it just you?"
Pav's face drains of colour as his cousin flirts with you. And you're indulging him!? That's it, you're not leaving his sight anymore.
"Flattery takes you nowhere, cousin."
His cousin ignores him. "Chuchudu, you should really visit Kerala sometime! We can go to all the tourists sites, go on a boatride -just the two of us, I can even teach you fishing!"
The idiot rambles on and on but Pavitr's eyes blaze in green fury 🔥 Chuchudu!? Chuchudu!?! How dare he call you cutie!
And, Gayatri just HAS to add fuel to fire. "Aww, you guys look so cute together! Don't they, Pav?"
"Of course! You look like father and daughter. What a rare bond, right?"
Pav tells himself it's because his cousin is an a-hole, which they are, and he doesn't want to see you hurt.
Lies, all lies. He jello
He constantly tries to separate you guys or atleast just be next you like a bodyguard, shadowing over your convos. If his cousin got irritated, they don't show it. And, thanks to his spidey sense, his cousin can't talk to you alone for more than 5 seconds, though they do manage to ditch Pav at times XP
Pavitr lets out a sigh of relief only after his cousin leaves.
The next time it happens is when a new guy, Ravi, joins school. Ravi takes one look at you and he's interested. He's always flirting at you everywhere: cafeteria, by your locker, in the hallway -even in the field.
Weekends usually mean extra superheroing so Pav can only meet you again on Monday morning at school. Or atleast, that's what usually happens. Today, though, you're at your locker with Ravi's arm around your shoulder as he talks to his friends. He says something in your ear which makes you laugh and slap his shoulder.
Pav is seeing green. And you seem to hang out with Ravi more as the days pass!
You suddenly find Pavitr showing up at your house whenever Ravi comes around, tagging along with you two and always standing inbetween, telling how long you guys are besties at every opportunity, touching you a LOT..
"WHAT do you think you're doing, idiot?" Gayatri traps Pav into a corner and gets him to spill.
"Okay, okay, I am jealous! I.. I like Y/n. Like, like her like her.."
"You what me?"
Long story short, you guys (FINALLY) get together and Gayatri squeals in joy.
After You Begin Dating
Boy, you underestimated how much he flaunts you
Hand-holding, kissing your cheek when he senses potential threat (thanks, spidey sense!), hugging a lot, lost of texting ("miss u moloo 😘", "can i come overrrr I'm boreddd :< ")
You assure him he's the only guy for you. "Pav, baby, I don't want anyone else. I've always been yours."
And, a little later in your relationship, you admit that the whole flirting thing with Ravi and Pav's cousin was a ruse to make him jealous. And Gayatri was in on it! ;P
"I'm sorry but you just look sooo cute when you're jealous!", you say, squishing his cheeks.
Pav feigns offense but he's melting inside knowing you only have eyes for him.
Also... C'mon, can anyone resist making this cutepie jealous?

marrying ciel’s older sister hcs ; prince soma
Tumblr media
requested by ; the-letter-horror-lover (31/05/23)
fandom(s) ; black butler
fandom masterlist(s) ; hub | secondary characters
character(s) ; prince soma asman kadar
outline ; “Prince Soma marriage headcanons with a female S/O who is Ciel's older sister please and a lot more mature. (I'll leave the imagination up to you about the marriage headcanons). *I guess that Prince Soma was not requested as much as the others*”
warning(s) ; references to canon-typical violence, references to parental and sibling loss (reader is ciel’s older sister), references to survivor’s guilt
the day you lost your family you’d been sent to spend the holidays with your aunt, madam red — the two of you had been exceptionally close and she’d offered to privately tutor you so that you could follow in her footsteps
and when the news reached you, you were absolutely shattered and riddled with survivor’s guilt — which caused you to isolate and start suffering from night terrors and panic attacks
your aunt — now adoptive guardian — had saved you from taking your life several times
the day your baby brother came home was the happiest you’d been in years, not fully believing your eyes when you arrived at the rebuilt estate and saw him waiting for you
you were the only person who he actively ran over to hug, and your aunt gave you both a moment before coming in herself
your home was restored, you had some of your family back — and you weren’t about to let anything happen to them
which meant that you were terribly protective of ciel (well, not ciel as he’d told you, but you kept his secret well enough) and refused to let him go out on missions without your help
you insisted on helping him with each and every case and your insight was vital in solving a great number of them — especially since you were the only member of the family to have an active rapport and history with undertaker, making him much more willing to provide assistance to him
ciel was your baby and you were so deeply attached to him that you nearly blew a gasket when you met soma and he started to take advantage of your baby brother
you got into a screaming row over it until agni and your brother stepped in to mediate, with the two of you agreeing to remain neutral whilst he stayed at your family’s town house
and that was the start of a shockingly beautiful relationship
for his entire life soma had gotten everything he wanted — everyone everywhere always bowing to his wants and feeding his ego
until he met you, and that made you all the more interesting to him
so the prince relentlessly pursued and courted you using a mixture of traditions from his home and bits and pieces he’d scraped together from sebastian
showering you in expensive gifts, sending flowers at every opportunity, asking you to accompany him (or offering to accompany you) to every outing and drowning you in compliments
but you didn’t give in, being cordial but not going beyond friendly conversation with him
until he stepped up to defend your baby brother from a rude nobleman who was acting especially snobbish and cruel towards him
that was when you started to return his efforts and after six months of this back-and-forth the two of you started to officially court
you took things slowly, or you tried to at least, going out for regular dates and exchanging so many letters that you’d likely felled a forest between you over the course of your relationship
he sent flowers to the main estate every time you succeeded at a case, sent jewellery and sarees for random gifts and absolutely spoiled you on your birthday
loves introducing you to the sweets and foods and drinks he grew up with — but good luck trying to get him to swallow traditional foods you grew up eating (he loves you but he cannot bring himself to eat jellied eels)
teaches you songs and dances and will encourage and congratulate you even if you misstep or sing the wrong note
you have two weddings: one in bengal and one in england to accommodate both of your cultures
he sticks with you and comforts you during your terrors and panic attacks — he becomes an expert at grounding you extremely quickly
never stops wooing you and, whilst is drawings and handwriting aren’t the best, the content of what he creates is incredible — he excels at love poetry
he’ll randomly just start dancing with you — sometimes it’s traditional, sometimes it’s improvised, sometimes it’s something you taught him, but it’s always intimate and ends with you laughing
constantly brags about you to anyone who will listen — including a cheerful agni and his brothers who do not hold back about teasing him for it
uses so many pet names for you that you almost think he’s forgotten your name — and you only understand a fraction of them
some of his favourites are: mishti, puchki, and shona
you and agni are the only things standing between him and pure chaos — you keep him in line, so to speak, since he can’t say no to either of you
if you speak to him in bengali — especially if you’re flirting — this man will absolutely melt, yes even if your pronunciation is a bit off
he’s incredibly affectionate and is always touching you at all times — whether that’s kissing, hugging, hand holding or otherwise
ciel isn’t too pleased about him being a permanent fixture in his life, but appreciates that soma makes you happy and that you can keep him in line
very emotional and has woken you up in tears after a bad dream involving the two of you getting into an argument so that he can apologise for his words in the dream

he learns how to make chai just for you
knows exactly how much milk and sugar you like, which brand of patti you prefer
drinks chai with you sometimes during the evening after he's done with work
LOVESSS DESI FOOD
the first time he tried it he let out a groan and commented on how good it was
one time you both ordered nihari with naan
he was mesmerized by the way you ate with your hands
thought you looked graceful
stared at you and tried mimicking your actions until you glanced at him
when you asked him what he was doing he turned into a flustered mess while he made up an excuse as to why he totally wasn’t staring at you
he thinks mehndi is beautiful and lets you use his hands to practice designs
one time he fell asleep with his hand against his face and woke up with a flower pattern on his cheek (personal experience here)
cue the widening eyes when you tell him that mehndi lasts for about a few weeks
he’ll have spiderpeople snickering at him while he's being serious
whenever you both are going out somewhere and you wear traditional clothes be prepared because this man is obsessed
his jaw is on the floor as you come out in a kurti, shalwar kameez, saree, lehenga, etc
cannot and will not take his eyes (and hands) off of you
will shower you in compliments
"look at you, amor." "my beautiful girl." "you’re so gorgeous.” "i still can't believe you're mine."
he's fallen in love all over again
he will 100% be protective of you when those aunties talk to you
uses witty remarks to get them to leave you both alone
will comfort you if their comments hurt you
“look at me, querida. what they said isn’t true. they wanted to get under your skin because they’re insecure and judgmental. whatever they said doesn't define anything. believe me, you’re perfect. so perfect for me. i love you no matter what. i always will."
the first time he tried kohl his eyes started watering
he got used to it after a while
makes his eyes look super pretty
flutters his eyelashes because you asked.. loves the squeal he receives in response
you take pictures of him when he wears it because he looks wayy too fine
"baby, i think that's enough-"
"one more picture. c'mon, for me?"
he can never say no to you

desi vocaloid series pt. 2: megurine luka!!
i didn’t change as much for luka as i did for miku, because i really wanted it to align with her original design this time (simple long dress, gold segments, blue eye catching bits and long flowing pink hair) i kept her chest? neck? piece as it is, as you can clearly see.
i decided to go the traditional saree route for her, because i have always always always loved watching the heroines dancing in sarees in older bollywood films! i might use my original saree idea for someone else now, hmm let me think for whom :D i also added freckles and a little mole on her (right) palm, as apparently i means you’re destined to earn a lot of money lmao (my favouritism definitely isn’t showing, right–)
this time the art is so much prettier i love how congruent the colours turned out~ (next is either kaito, gumi, or meiko-san!~)

standing in the living room while you're walking over to him in that red saree, the sound of your heels against the floor and the way your bangles shimmer around your wrists as you adjust your pleats, he feels his entire body almost lose its balance.
with the way your body moves with so much confidence in your traditional clothes, he doesn't understand why you're frowning with an anxious edge to your voice as you speak, his eyes fixed on your subtle pout. "is this too much? be honest."
too much? be honest?
sae was dying to be honest— to tell you just how much you're driving him crazy and it hasn't even been a minute since you came out of the bedroom, but it would lead to something that would make you miss your dinner with your friends and make your efforts to put on that beautiful saree go to waste because he was already dreaming of having himself completely stained with that same red on your lips.
"you look just fine."
really? just fine? you looked more than just fine. he wasn't fine.
your eyes still twinkle with that uncertainty and he slowly takes a step further until his slightly shaky hands can finally hold your hips. his eyes keep on darting from your eyes to your lips and it's making your cheeks flush with heat. "i just don't know, it's been so long since i wore a saree and—"
"stop. kiss me."
"what?"
he takes a deep breath. "kiss me, right now."
your lips curve into a shy smile then as you stare at him with that look. that look. your cherry red lips. he can't handle it anymore. his arm desperately reaches around you until he's pressed against your front with that same red all over his mouth as you share the heated kiss he'd wanted ever since he saw you minutes ago. he feels hot everywhere. this isn't good.
but it's so good.
he knows you're running late for your dinner— but he doesn't care. he doesn't want to care. his fingers trace circles over the soft skin of your waist, and he's not sure how to pick you up when you're in a saree so he settles on just gently pushing you against the closest wall as you stumble just a bit in your heels and let him kiss you with all that he has. the sound of your bangles rings right next to his ears as you tug at his hair and gasp at the way his fingers caress your bare sides.
"you look absolutely stunning," he whispers against your lips breathlessly when he stops kissing you. his forehead presses against yours, your thumb slowly reaching lower to rub the red shade away from his mouth as you breathe heavily and giggle— but it's of no use because he's going to kiss you again anyway. "and i want you all to myself right now. so call your friends and tell them to wait, yeah?"

ITOSHI RIN 。.゚+ ?!
his brain short circuits tbh
he won't stop staring and drooling (internally)
please fix this boy with a kiss or two or maybe just tease him further who cares he's at your mercy now
"you never told me you had a saree."
"ah, i forgot about it too! do you remember my cousin who visited from home a few months ago?" you speak softly as you grab another safety pin from your little box and hold it casually between your teeth, adjusting the pallu over your shoulder so it's just right as you stare in the mirror. "she gifted me this."
you feel his eyes burn into your back as you attentively pin the layers of material over your shoulder so that your pallu stays in place throughout the night. you frown a bit, glancing back at where he's sitting on the edge of the bed. "are you okay?"
he blinks twice and notices he's been biting his lip the whole time. "yes."
you nod, humming as you continue to do some touch ups. it had been a while since you wore a saree, so its not too surprising that you're not used to handling it too well. it's why you've pinned the material at most places so you don't have to take care of it too much, thanks to the tips you remember from back home.
and just once you're finished, you finally turn around with a satisfied sigh, grinning as you give him a pose, your right hand resting on your waist as you let your pallu drape over your left arm. "i'm finally done. god, it's been such a long time since i wore a saree. does it look okay?"
he blinks again, mouth opening and closing as he tries to find the right word. his gaze doesn't shift away from you. the material of your light colored saree is quite transparent, he notices. he wishes instantly that he didn't notice because it makes him feel even more attracted to you— and it suddenly gets really difficult to keep his hands to himself. he clutches the sheets under him as you walk over.
beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, the word echoes in his mind.
but he can't say it for some reason. his face feels hotter when you come and stand in front of him, and it's so hard to tear his eyes away from your visible stomach but he still does it anyway, turquoise eyes staring up at you as you raise an eyebrow at him expectantly. it's not like it's a new thing to him to see your stomach— crop tops existed. but seeing you in something that plays a role in your culture, and seeing you look absolutely breathtaking in it almost makes your boyfriend melt.
"you look beautiful." he manages to speak, still too afraid to touch you as if this saree just made you so much more valuable. so much more delicate. so much more powerful too, because he doubts he can handle any more of your beauty if he keeps staring.
you chuckle at his state, before leaning down to kiss his forehead. it's when he takes the chance and pulls you down to sit sideways on his lap, face still a little flushed, but a glint of adoration in his eyes as he pecks your cheek in return softly, his hand snaking around from behind you completely, slipping under your pallu as his warm palm gently rests on your stomach, making butterflies erupt throughout you as you lean closer to him.
"baby, you know i have to go." you grin as you talk just above a whisper, index finger tracing his lips slowly. rin knew just the right way to tempt you.
"i know." he says, but his tone is enough to tell you he clearly doesn't care.
"rin." you say in a slightly stern tone. however, the smile on your face doesn't leave.
but after you say his name like that, he's kissing your lips already, tasting the sweet and expensive lipstick on you as he holds you flush against him. his other hand carefully pushes your loose strands of hair behind your ear as he slowly holds your chin right after, mumbling quietly in the middle of his gentle kiss, "five more minutes, pretty. you look too good like this for me to let you go so soon."

MIKAGE REO 。.゚+
he's gonna wife you up right there
gets you an expensive lehnga from india for your friend's desi wedding
how did he get a connection there? who fucking knows. all that matters is that his woman gets to look gorgeous in her traditional clothes
purposely making you cringe is his new favourite thing
"i knew that color would look good on you." he says as he opens the car door for you, a low whistle following as you step out carefully with your hand tight in his.
"i still can't believe this, reo." you shake your head as you start walking to the entrance of the restaurant, his hand now on your lower back as he quickly nods back at the driver and guides you forward— your lips twitching in a pathetic attempt to hold back a smile when you feel several eyes on you already.
"anything for you, i've told you this a hundred times, baby."
"yeah, but a lehnga? and this expensive?" you chuckle, looking at him as if he'd grown three heads as you both continue to walk. "where did that thought even come from?"
"your cousin once sent me a picture of you wearing one from a few years ago. i'm gonna be honest, you looked really sexy." he shrugs, earning a light slap to his shoulder as he starts to laugh. "and i thought, why not?"
you can't help but feel warmth rising up your cheeks, and you're so glad your cheeks aren't red. you look down as you walk, to make sure you aren't stepping on your long skirt as you hold it up just a little.
he notices that and the smirk on his face makes you feel too much at once.
"want me to carry you? like they do in—"
"baby, please don't." you shake your head as you laugh, walking faster once you see your friends standing right at the entrance of the big venue, leaving him behind in an attempt to hide your embarrassment and your flustered face.
but you don't make it that far and soon you feel his hand around your wrist. your eyes widen as you gasp and get pulled behind in one swift movement, your heavy outfit making you sway without balance and you instantly rest your other hand on his chest to make sure you don't crash into him when he pulls you in. he wraps his arm around your waist to keep you close, smiling innocently as you glare.
"i think this is where they start playing the lovey-dovey background music now. should we kiss?"
you can't stop yourself and you rest your forehead on his shoulder as you laugh loudly. "you're insane."
"insane for you." he winks, puckering his lips lightly as you continue to laugh from cringing so much. he was obviously playing around to tease you, and it was working.
however, you finally give in after a few moments as you press your lips on his in a sweet, chaste kiss— your face warm when reo's hand squeezes your side and his fingers trace over your curves ever so lightly, making goosebumps rise on your skin.
once you pull away, you notice he's more sincere now as he whispers softly, eyes not leaving yours. "you look amazing, y/n. from head to toe, everything about you tonight is even more breathtaking."
now that he's less playful, it means much more to you than it did before. "thank you." you whisper back, the gentle smile on your face changing into a smirk as you suddenly pull him closer by the collar of his suit so that he's resting his forehead against yours. his breath hitches just a bit when you look at him like that. your shimmering lehnga is mesmerizing enough— but your eyes have his knees going weak as he lets out a soft breath and his lips capture yours again.
your hands go up to his shoulders to squeeze as he now uses both of his arms to strongly hold you close to him and he tugs at your bottom lip gently. a few seconds pass and you hear your friends laugh from a distance, your eyebrows furrowing in confusion as you still continue the kiss but then it starts; the lovey-dovey background music from the inside of the open venue, which makes reo let out an amused huff of air as he picks you up and spins you around, keeping the kiss going until you're both breathless and dizzy.

"I think I'm sweating through my pants." Jack Champion was a confident man, usually able to mask his feelings with his goofy and silly behavior, but right for this instance, that silly demeanor was thrown out of the window as he stood in front of his home's mirror with shaking legs. He wore a black suit, the blazer a wrap plaid one as he topped it off with a black tie and dress shoes. "Baby, are you sure I shouldn't wear.. uhm.. your traditional clothing?" His lips were pursed as he forgot what it was called when he watched himself in the mirror. He was a white american, an entire different race than you and your family. Of course, that shouldn't matter at all, but he felt incredibly nervous. He was raised by his mother with respect and turned into a true gentleman, but he was afraid. Afraid he would fuck this up and make a fool out of himself. This was his first time meeting your relatives, after all. He felt nervous meeting your parents too, but they were quick to like him. Well, your mom. Your father was still protective when it came to you and boys, but that's how fathers will always be. Currently, the two of you were getting ready for your cousin's wedding. The loser of a cousin finally proposed to his now-fiancee, and you couldn't be happier for them. He was like a brother to you. This led to you asking Jack to be your date for the wedding, since he is your boyfriend and all. You understood that if he had declined, you had a huge family after all. You didn't even know 75% of the people, and you probably knew at least a hundred relatives. But to your surprise, Jack had agreed to accompany you, seeing it as the next step in your relationship. You saw your future in his eyes, after all. To say you were beyond excited was an understatement, finally sharing your culture with your boyfriend in the way it should be shown. Jack did know the basic stuff from visiting your home and eating with your parents, but they always tended to tone it down. This time, he could get the real experience. You were getting ready in his guestroom, as you had a ton of stuff to prepare for and needed all the space you could possibly use. From the other room, you replied to his question as you fixed your saree, "Jaanu (beloved), I'm sure of it. I would rather you introduce yourself as you, Jack Champion, my silly boyfriend. And that suit definitely screams your name." You looked at yourself in the mirror with the proudest look on your face as a few strands of your hair framed your face. The brown-beige colored shameen draped saree hugged your body as the jewelry on your wrists and neck were the cherry on top. Your earrings completed the outfit as a whole as they matched your makeup look. You bit your lip in satisfaction. You felt so beautiful in your own skin. But would Jack feel the same way?
"Wow," Jack stood in the dooropening, staring right into your reflection in the mirror as his jaw practically dropped to the floor. He was so used to you wearing acubi fashion: cargo pants, crop tops with half-zipped hoodies, that this side of you was such a shocker to him. Not a negative one, though. He walked up to you, still mesmerized by your beauty. His eyes checked you out from head to toe as he stood behind you, checking every curve and decoration on you. He slowly moved his hands to your waist, gripping your skin as he pushed you against him. The back of your head hit his chest as a blush covered your cheeks. You watched his expression through the mirror and his eyes held nothing but adoration and love, "You're so pretty. You're always so pretty and breathtaking, priya (beloved)." He had a funny American accent when he whispered the last part, but you couldn't help but blush. He took his time learning about your culture and your ways. Even though he was a busy man with his acting job, he always made time for you. Jack Champion was the man of everyone's dreams. And he was yours.
Your parents had picked you up from Jack's house, his mom begging him to take a lot of videos and pictures for her to relive the moment before the two of you had left. She couldn't help but make the two of you pose in front of the house, taking a ton of pictures of her son holding your waist as your hand were resting against his chest. Like the gentleman Jack was, he opened the cardoor for you to get seated. While in the car, you seated next to Jack in the backseat, your mother spoke up, "My dāmāda (son-in-law), how are you feeling? About the wedding?" A blush crept up on your cheeks at that nickname. Your mother took a liking to your boyfriend, and you couldn't be happier about how accepting she was. You had a feeling it happened after he told her about his job at such a young age, but the more he was around, the more she grew to like him for who he was. Your father thought different about it, though, as a grumble left his lips at the way your mother called your boyfriend. He did earn a smack from your mother in return. Jack brought his right hand to your thigh to caress it as his other hand moved to hold onto yours, his thumb rubbing your skin, "I can't lie. I'm pretty nervous, but also excited to get the real cultural experience with my girlfriend by my side." He was so cheesy, but you couldn't help but smile at his words.
From the rear mirror, your father watched how lovey dovey the two of you were being. Even though you tried your best to be as discreet as possible, your father would rather not have Jack in his car at all. Let alone him being so acceptable of the touches you shared. "Please keep your hands away from my d- ow priya (beloved)!" Your mother had slapped your father before he was able to finish his sentence. You shook your head as you gave Jack a reassuring smile, taking both his hands and holding them in your lap. He gave you a smile in return as he played with your fingers, something he did whenever he needed to calm down. You leaned closer to him as you pulled one of your hands away from his grip to stroke the strands of hair out of his eyesight. The two of you were acting like a cheesy, newly wedded couple, but you didn't care. As long as he was by your side, everything would be okay.
Being the gentleman Jack was, he had gotten out of the car the moment your father had parked to go ahead and open your door for you. You had blushed yet again at this action. You were easily swooned when it came to him. You grabbed onto his exchanged hand as you grabbed your sari with the other to lift the fabric off the floor as you stepped out of the car. A blush had covered Jack’s pale skin as he watched your every move. You looked, no, you were someone out of a fairy tale. You were beyond beautiful, breaking the scale as you were above it. “well thank you, my prince Naveen.” The both of you knew that ‘prince charming’ would have been the usual phrase, but you didn’t like that. Prince charming didn’t have any personality and Jack was the complete opposite of that, so you had decided to settle on Naveen, who was also your favorite Disney prince. Very ironic, considering your ethnicity. “Y/N!!” You were almost knocked on your butt at the sudden force running into, if that weren’t for Jack holding you by the small of your back. “My sweet boni (wild berry)!” You engulfed her in your arms as you held her against your hip, “for sure has been a while, hasn’t it?” You got a nod in response as she wrapped your arms around you, “missed you!” She had exclaimed, before she made direct eye contact with Jack, who had put on the brightest smile as he waved at her. She shyly waved in return, thinking the older boy in front of her was quite handsome.
“I knew she would be here. Assalamu Alaikum, bhanjee (sister’s daughter).” One of your hundred aunts came up to you, putting her hand on your arm as she leaned to press her cheek against yours. You smiled as you greeted her in return, “Wa’alaikum Salaam, auntie.” You felt Jack shift as his grip on the small of your back tightened. You put your cousin down, before putting your hand on Jack’s chest, the other hugging his arm close to you. “Auntie, this is my boyfriend, Jackson.” Your aunt had looked at the boy from head to toe, making him shake in his shoes. He put his hand on his chest as he nodded his head to greet her, “It’s nice to meet you, miss. And just Jack is alright with me.” You had looked at your aunt for approval, as she still analyzed his figure. “Aren’t you a tall handsome boy! What do your parents do, hm? Please call me auntie!”
If you could crumble through the ground, it would have happened right there and then. “Oh thank you, auntie! Uhm my mom studied bio-“
“Oh doctor!! When are the two of you getting married!”
A heavy blush had covered Jack’s cheeks as you basically pulled Jack with you towards the venue, “Auntie we are going to greet the others, please excuse us!” As you speed walked off with your boyfriend trailing behind you.
“I am so sorry for her,” you bit your lip as you looked down in shame. The two of you were still so young and for your auntie to start talking about marriage, “I’m sorry if you felt uncomfortable with that question.” You saw your future in him, even though the two of you were still so young, and you didn’t know if Jack felt the same way. Instead of an awkward response, a laugh had erupted from him, “It’s okay darling. After all, you having my last name doesn’t sound so bad now, does it?”
You had smacked his chest, “We aren’t even twenty, Jack!”
The two of you had walked around greeting other relatives, some you knew and most you didn’t. It was the usual ‘I held you when you were just a baby!’ and ‘I remember when you just learned how to walk’ moment, where you awkwardly smiled in response. The moment they saw Jack, they had all interviewed him like true interviewers whenever he was on press tours. He didn’t mind though, as he would try his hardest for you. Their defensive behavior disappeared the moment he had told them he was an actor, your relatives linking this to being rich. Word spread about you bringing in your white famous boyfriend, other people coming up to the two of you to ask you questions about your relationship. You already felt your social battery draining and the ceremony hadn’t even started yet, so you pulled Jack to the side as another storm of relatives flooded in, late as always cause everyone could never be on time. Luckily for them, the soon-to-be-married couple already counted on this. Once Asian, always Asian. “I have never seen a family this big before.” He had leaned down to whisper that in your ear, his lips pressed against your ear as his hot breath fanned against your skin. His hand was holding your waist as he pulled you closer, “did I already tell you that you look incredible tonight, babe.”
Your hands traveled to his chest, gripping onto his blazer as you looked around, “isn’t this kind of inappropriate of you to do at the wedding of your new family, sir Champion?”
His eyes sparkled as he pulled his face away to flash you a grin, “I can’t help it, mrs. Champion. I like the physical contact.” You chuckled in response, pressing a quick kiss against his plump lips before pulling yourself away from him, the only physical contact being your arm hooking into his. So far, you had mostly met aunties, uncles and distant cousins. Jack didn’t know what was about to come. The scariest part of meeting an Asian family: the older cousins. They were probably running late as always.
“Before you can call me mrs. Champion, you still have some obstacles to win, Jackson Champion.” You weren’t going to lie, you were incredibly worried about him meeting your grandparents and older cousins. You were one of the youngest, so they were extra protective when it came to you. “Which is?”
Before you could answer your dear boyfriend, one of your relatives had gotten on stage with a microphone in her hand, “Namaste, family, friends. We have come here together,” She did her introduction speech, before telling everyone to sit at one of the hundreds of round tables in the huge venue. You smiled at your boyfriend and pulled him along, looking for any familiar faces you could sit with. “(Y/N), here!” You heard your name being called as you looked around. Among the crowded tables, you spotted a few heads peeking out from the crowd. Your older cousins. All sitting together. Holding one chair free for you. You didn’t tell them about Jack coming. You gulped as you headed their way. This was it, the true judging of your boyfriend.
“well good day, rats.” You smirked as they all stood up to engulf you in a hug, or a handshake. Jack stood there awkwardly, waiting for you to introduce him. “Now who is this?” one of your cousins spoke up, walking over to one of the only white people in the room, being sweet Jack.
“guys, this is m-“
“how couldn’t you tell us?! You have been seeing someone all along?!”
“If you could shut up and let me speak, thank you.” You took a step towards Jack, hugging his arm in your chest as you smiled sweetly, “This is obviously my sweet and handsome boyfriend, Jack.” Your older cousins gaped at one another. Even though they had figured it out on their own the moment you walked in with a white boy, they still couldn’t believe it that their little cousin would grow up so early. “Your type differs so much from us, that’s not in a bad way of course! Nice to meet you Jack, I’m ….” Your only first female cousin had spoken up, making the decision to walk up to him with her hand extracted. Jack felt much more at ease, a bright smile on his face as they shook hands. “It’s nice to meet you too.”
You gave your other cousins a look, telling them to be nice to your boyfriend. They all groaned, but agreed. They didn’t want you unhappy, after all. All your cousins had greeted Jack, who felt delighted as he felt them opening up to him. You all took a seat, as you secretly stole a chair from the table next to you for Jack to sit down next to you. He put his hand on your thigh as your touch made him feel at ease. You smiled and put your hand on his. The table was decorated with flowers and a beautiful woven cloth, on top all kinds of snacks to eat from. Your relative prepared for her next speech, waiting for everyone to settle down in their seats, as you pulled a few bowls closer to the two of you. You faced Jack, who looked down at the three snacks. “What are these?” he had asked out of genuine curiosity, excited to try it. “So this is aloo tikki, it’s like a fried potato patty. This is banana chips, it’s basically fried overripen bananas. This last one is samosas, it’s my all time favorite. I’m sure you had this before, it’s the potato filled pastry.” You explained as you pointed to all the dishes, given them their easiest description for him. Jack took notice how it was all fried, in oil. He was sure he needed to go to the gym tomorrow, because of all the delicious food he will eat. He first went for the safe option, the one he already knew, the samosas. “warning baby, these are much spicier than the ones I made for you.” You got up from your seat, “let me go get you something to drink, alright? I’ll be back soon.”
“So Jack, what do you do?” one of your cousins had asked him once you went off to the other side of the venue.
“I’m an actor. I have been doing it since I was a child, and now I made my passion my career.” Jack explained, turning to your cousin as he used his hands while talking.
Your other cousin chimed in, “In what movies do you play? Like genre?”
“So far, horror and science fiction. My most recent role was one in scream s-“
Before Jack could finish his sentence, your female cousin chimed in, “OH MY GOD! YOU’RE THE HUMAN KID FROM AVATAR!” She almost fell off her chair as she did so, standing up from her seat and pointing at him, “You’re the bug! The one with the bug name!” her accent clear as she spoke out of pure excitement. In the meantime, your other cousins just stay quiet as they watch their cousin scream like a true Asian mom on the phone. God, this was embarrassing.
Jack tried his best to hold his laughter, “Yes, I play spider yes.”
“Do you plan on playing in romance movies?” the vibe suddenly got dark, as all your cousins stared right into his eyes. It made him nervous, but he knew he couldn’t do more than tell them the truth. “It would be interesting to be in one, as it’s different from what I usually do, but if (Y/N) feels uncomfortable with that thought, then I won’t. I don’t want my relationship to be in danger. There are a lot of other genres with good movie plots.”
Once you had returned with your drinks, it looked like your cousins had opened up just a tad. You didn’t know what they had talked about, but it must be good. You brought him a glass of water to neutralize his tastebuds as you brought a cola for yourself. He didn’t expect the spice to hit him this hard, his mouth on fire as he teared up. Your cousins had laughed at him as he sipped his water, holding onto your hand as he did so. You gently rubbed his cheeks as you grinned, “Now where is my Champion?”
The ceremony had started soon after. Your cousin looked so beautiful in her attire, almost making you tear up as your hand clasped over your mouth. Jack scooted closer to you, wrapping his arm around your shoulders to bring you closer, his other hand rubbing your hand. It might be wishful thinking, but that could be Jack and you in a decade. Oh, how you couldn’t wait to see what the future had in stock for the two of you. Thank god that you wore waterproof mascara, because you bawled your eyes out the moment they had exchanged rings. “baby, it’s okay I’m here.” He had whispered as you sniffed, trying to get it together.
After the ceremony, the dancing began. First it started out as performance dancing, with professional dancers in cultural attires as they put on a show. Jack had taken his phone out to film the happening, so fascinated by the different approach of a wedding. Soon, couples gathered on the dance floor as the professional dancers left the floor. Thee newly wedded couple danced in the middle as the other pairs danced around them. You had gotten up, taking his hand in yours as you pulled him off your chair, “now come on!”
“babe, I don’t know the dance moves-“
“But you know how to dance! Come on!”
You pulled him on the dancefloor, for the sake of your social anxiety and him being in the presence of your huge family, you had decided to stay at the side. “Come on, lets just have fun. Doesn’t matter what we dance, you take the lead Champ.” He grinned at you as he took you in his arms. At first he was a little stiff, twirling you around and moving you from side to side. But as time passed, he grew more comfortable: more himself. The dances got more ‘Jack’ when he did his iconic dance, making you laugh as you threw your head back. The two of you forgot everyone around you as you were only focused on one another, enjoying the moment with the brightest smiles on your face. A sight captured by many.
Eventually, the two of you left the dancefloor, as food would be served soon. You went to the restroom to fix yourself up, Jack following you like a lost puppy as he held onto your hand. You were inside the restroom, touching your makeup and hair up as Jack stood outside, your hands linked together through the door crack. Then you proceeded to return to your table, food already ready and served. It was a plate filled with fresh roti: masala potatoes and chicken, eggs and green beans filling your nostrils. A side of madame jeanette to go with it. Jack had pulled your chair out for you to sit on, before taking a seat himself, “what’s this?” He had asked as he analyzed the plate in front of his nose.
“So this is my favorite dish actually, it’s roti with a bunch of side dishes you eat this with.” You explained as you opened the little wipe packet they gave you to go with, since it’s a dish you’re supposed to eat with your hands. You gave it to Jack as you opened your own wipe, “this is a dish you eat with your hands, so that’s what the wipes are for.” He copied your ways, wiping his fingers down with the wipe as well.
“Okay, so you rip some of the flatbread and you hold it like you’re going to scoop something, then you grab a little bit of everything and put it in your mouth.” You explained as you followed your own instructions, adding some of the madame jeanette to it as well. He had seen you done that, “What is the yellow sauce?” He asked as his eyes focused on his plate. He wasn’t used to eating at all. Of course he ate pizza and chicken wings with his hands, but this still felt different. This felt more cultural. You watched him struggle to split the potatoes in half without letting it fly through the sky. It was kind of cute?
Your gaze returned on his expression as you answered his question from earlier, “It’s spicy, I am not sure if you can handle it. Do you still want to try?”
He nodded, eager to do anything that has to do with your culture. Eager to learn.
“Say ah?”
“huh?”
“I said ‘ahh’ silly.”
“ahh?” Jack had opened his mouth in confusion, not knowing what you meant by it. You then fed him your portion, making him blush a dark shade of red as you pushed the food inside his mouth with your thumb. You pulled your hand away, looking at his expression with a bright grin. As he chewed, his eyes widened when the spice hit his tongue. It felt like his tastebuds were burning off. He had swallowed though, since the taste was exquisite. If only he could taste it better without the distracting spice. You quickly brought the glass of water to his lips, your hand under his chin as he eagerly gulped his drink done, his hand on yours to keep the cup steady.
This sure was an experience to tell at home.

If this offended anyone I apologize in advance, my intention was not to offend you and if you feel offended by it, I'll take it down
He was supposed to hate you and loathe every single part of you, he hated the way you sounded so melodious when you spoke in your native language with someone or when he saw you in those beautiful Ghagra cholis and sarees and lehangas. He hated the way his heart grew soft and warm when it came to you and yet he finds himself getting drawn towards you. He's appalled at himself for taking an interest in you and yet he despises seeing you hanging around those gits from Gryffindor and his eyes narrow to slits whenever he sees you laughing at something that blood traitor Weasley said. It infuriates him even more when you speak to other people about your culture except for him, it's like you're indirectly telling him that he's not good enough for you. How dare you give your attention to someone else other than him? He doesn't really make an issue and a scene about it though, he just broods with a stoic yet seething rage bubbling inside him whenever you interact with someone that's not him
One day during the Potions class, you got berated by Snape for messing up the potion and your eyes prickled with tears as you huffed under your breath. "Vedhava...gadidha mokhamoda(Translation from Telugu to English: Donkey faced fool) '' you grumbled to yourself under your breath and Blaise was intrigued by what you said. Of course, part of him felt slightly bad and somewhat sympathetic when he saw your eyes prickle with tears but his feelings of sympathy was thrown out the damn window when he spotted one of your pesky friends telling you that he'd tutor you later in Potions. After a somewhat polite yet life threatening chat which involved Blaise threatening to use the unforgivable curses on your annoying friend after slamming him against the wall, he found you in the library reading as he smirked to himself, feeling proud that he was finally able to have his moment with you
However he managed to compose himself and maintained his usual stoic demeanor and approached you as he pulled a chair next to you and sat next to you coming up with an instant excuse for his actions. "Professor Snape asked me to tutor you in Potions since you're absolutely deplorable at it'' he replied as you rolled your eyes but sighed as you accepted your fate. You expected him to be condescending and rude because of the way he was with the other people but with you, he was surprisingly patient. His eyes would often trail towards your hands which was covered in Mehendi designs to your arms and he couldn't help but think that your hands looked stunning with those intricate floral patterns on your hands. "What's that on your hand?" he asked you and you told him about your cousin's wedding that you attend a month ago and he seemed quite interested in listening to more about your culture and traditions
At the end of the tutoring session, he asked you what exactly you'd muttered during the Potions class and when you told him about it, his lips tugged upwards into an amused grin and let out a soft chuckle. You definitely were an interesting one in his eyes. As a way of thanking him for tutoring you, you decided to treat him to some of your favorite Darjeeling tea and he watched your beautiful mehendi designed hands prepare some Darjeeling tea for him. He took one sip and was instantly impressed with the enriching taste and flavor and let out a quiet approving hum of contentment while the two of you sat in comfortable silence drinking Darjeeling tea. You told him you'd visited Darjeeling when you were a kid and spoke of the lush greenery there and how it's mainly known for its tea and the scenic breathtaking views of especially the Kanchenjunga mountains. He listened to your every word with rapt attention and his mind started wandering and thinking about scenarios of the two of you heading to Darjeeling one day. There was no denying it anymore, he was growing infatuated with you
He adores seeing how flustered you get when he picks up speaking in Hindi just to see your embarrassed expressions. He'll pick up speaking those romantic quotes called Shayaris to see you blush and he finds it endearing how you're at a loss for words. He has a smirk on his face as he caresses your cheek and spouts out a Shayari like "Gulmohar, Harisinghar aur Palash ke phool jis mausam mein din raat barsenge, barrish ki tarah main milunga tumse...(Translation from Hindi to English: Like the flowers of the Gulmohar, the Harisinghar and the palash that shower on you day and night, the same way my love for you never fades away just like the continuous rains of the monsoon. Taken from the TV show Prithvi Vallabh which is one of my FAVORITE shows of all time in Indian TV shows). You just stare at him and he loves the way you look so surprised and caught off guard
He's very interested in knowing more about your culture and traditions and will do some research and read books to know more and is pleasantly surprised when you can even speak in Hindi as well. He's very fascinated with the Indian epics such as the Mahabharata and the Ramayana and tales of Indian gods and goddesses as well. He likes to hear about Arundhati and Vashishta as the perfect couple and thinks very highly of the pure spiritual love Lord Krishna and Radha have for each other. You've introduced him to Indian delicacies such as Chole Bhature(It is a combination of fried bread called Bhatura and spicy chickpeas which are called chole), Dosas(A dosa is a thin, savory crepe in South Indian cuisine made from a fermented batter of ground white gram and rice. Dosas are served hot, often with chutney and sambar), Vada Pavs(A vegetarian fast food dish native to the Indian state of Maharashtra. The dish consists of a deep fried potato dumpling placed inside a bread bun sliced almost in half through the middle. It is generally accompanied with one or more chutneys and a green chili pepper) and such but his favorite would have to be the Aloo Parathas(North Indian whole wheat flabreads with a spiced potato filling), he loves the way the spices blend together and likes the savory taste of the cold curd to go along with it
He can understand why Chai(Tea) is an emotion for you, he looks forward to having garam masala chai with you during the evenings especially when it rains, while the two of you listen to songs of popular singers such as Arjith Singh, Armaan Malik, Sid Sriram and Anirudh Ravichander while there's only the light of the Diya(An Oil lamp) to illuminate the room to make it more romantic and serene
He's somewhat amused with you complaining about the lack of logic in Indian movies sometimes but likes watching them with you. He likes the detail and cinematography that goes into making such films, especially RRR and Padmaavat. As much as he'd never admit it to you out loud for the sake of his ego, he actually likes movies which have sentimental meanings behind them such as Taare Zameen Par, 12th Fail, Chhichhore and 3 Idiots and such. There are Indian TV shows he likes watching with you as well such as Yeh Un Dino Ki baat hai, which he thinks is quite a nice love story between Naina and Sameer, Operation MBBS, Kota Factory and such. The two of you like making fun of the illogical scenes that take place in TV shows that defy the laws of physics and humanity like a lady literally falling into a suitcase, someone literally picking off a piece of the moon and such which amuse him greatly but likes to listen to you rant about it while he has an amused smile on his face. He also thinks it's quite adorable and cute whenever you switch to cussing in Hindi
When you tell him about the burden you've faced as a kid from your parents and relatives and how they always expected you to be the so called golden child of the family, he could sense your sadness which made him infuriated with your family. His expression instantly soured when you told him about your struggles regarding your education before you arrived at Hogwarts and his jaw clenched slightly in anger. He simply held your hand and traced gentle patterns on the back of your hand while you both sat in comfortable silence. He didn't like the way your parents compared you to other people, frankly he thought they were quite blind and silly not to realize how talented and precious you were. His heart truly does go out for you when he hears about how you've questioned your self worth plenty of times just because you got horrible scores before which fuels his obsession to protect you and keep you safe from such nonsense and toxicity
Of course, there are times when he does get insanely possessive as well and for a completely IRRATIONAL reason too. He heard you play the Veena and the flute and he felt himself getting lost in the magic of your melodious tunes, it was like you played the songs of the gods. He had a soft smile on his face, reserved solely for you when he saw your face etched in concentration while you created the most soulful music he'd ever heard. His mind started thinking of other people hearing your music which filled his heart with a cold fury. No one else deserved to hear your melody, it was meant and reserved only for him, the rest were all undeserving scumbags and prats in his opinion. The first time he saw you in a Bharatnatyam or Kuchipudi dance getup, he swore to Merlin his heart almost stopped beating. You looked like a goddess or an apsara who descended from the heavens above as you looked ethereal and had that radiant glow on you with your jewelry, your dress, your makeup and the jasmine flowers adorning your silky smooth hair. He couldn't take his eyes off you as his eyes followed your every movement when you danced, you were truly an Indian goddess, the way your eye movements coordinated with your leg movements and the Mudras when you performed your dance with the sound of the anklets resonating around you...you looked divine. After your dance was done, he told you that you did a wonderful dance and complimented you for it. If you're struggling to remove your anklets he'll put your foot on his lap and smirk in amusement at your bashful expression while he helps you take off your anklets
You'll invite him to one of your cousin's weddings at some point and he's very intrigued by everything that happens there. He'll be dressed in a gold and green kurta while you're dressed in a green Ghagra choli or a green saree with intricate gold borders and your body would be adorned with gold jewelry and you'd have the traditional maang tikka(An ornament worn on the forehead) and he'd just stare at you unable to say anything for a few seconds as he drinks in your elegance and radiant divine beauty. While your cousin is dressed in the red bridal saree, he can't wait for you to be dressed in a red bridal saree as well getting married to him. He pays close attention to detail and all the traditional customs and rituals, he likes the way the bride and the groom go around the holy Yagnam 7 times, he thinks it's a nice way of offering vows in the presence of the fire to unite the couple. After the wedding ceremony was finished, you and Blaise were at the banquet hall for the dinner and you mentioned that you were heading to the food counters to get some desserts. No sooner had you gone there, some guy snuck his arm around your waist and started hitting on you with all sorts of cheesy pick up lines. Blaise spotted this and his eyes narrowed to slits as he strode towards you and the guy and twisted his hand. If you think he'd be spared, you thought wrong. He'd personally deal with the bloody git who dared to touch you by cornering him in a secluded area away from the guests and use the Sectumsempra spell on him and feels sadistic pleasure course through his veins as the guy is now convulsing and twitching on the ground losing liters of blood while you remain blissfully unaware of his dark twisted tendencies he terms as love for you
If someone decides to ever make fun of your culture or hurt you in any way, they better hope and PRAY that lord Shani is in a decent mood because Blaise will NOT take such things lightly. He won't give them the satisfaction of a quick death, he'll make it slow and agonizing as possible taking his own sweet time while he has a sadistic grin etched on his face, relishing in the screams of agony of the schmuck who made the mistake of tormenting you. After light of the world finally leaves their eyes, he'll be satisfied and to cheer you up, he'll bring a box of your favorite assortment of sweets such as the Kaju Burfi, the coconut laddoos, the kalakands and a few packets of your favorite snacks such as the iconic Haldirams mixture packets and such where the two of you would spend time in each other's company listening to your favorite Indian songs
It was only a matter of time before he would 'save you' from all the darkness of society in the Wizarding World by taking you for himself and having a traditional Indian wedding to marry you, even if he has to stain his hands with more blood to ensure this dream of his turns into a reality...

Are there any examples of, I guess the term would be, gender transgressing? GNC? Quarians? Like do we see female quarians w/o the hood up or male ones with the hood up? I've never seen a reason why the hood thing is gender divided as like part of religious practice or anything
we don't ever see quarians breaking with gendered exosuit styling tradition in canon (that we know of), but that's not surprising. This is the series where one of the developers joked in an interview about how it would be difficult to make female turians, because what could you do? Give them lipstick or boobs? Haha!! So like. That's the level of nuance this universe as presented to us is operating on. But thanks to the magic of fandom and imagination, I can speculate about alien gender presentation as much as I like.
I imagine quarian exosuit wrappings as being based on clothing styles from when everyone still lived on-planet, just with more practical, pared-down silhouettes to save on fabric and not have any loose fluttery bits to get in the way for those who do a lot of manual labor on the Fleet. Maybe quarian women of 200 years ago wore something like a saree pallu draped over their heads, and that's survived as the full cloth hoods over their helmets, with a partial hood as the more masculine style.
My quarian OC Kesh'Vataar is nonbinary (nb people can exist in any species of course, but I also don't see why the quarians would only have binary genders, they're aliens), and I tried to draw them a suit that blended "male" and "female" design elements and also kind of did its own thing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
especially with the patchwork, hand-me-down nature of quarian suits, I imagine most people would have their own variations on gender presentation rather than adhering to a rigid standard. In my mind, the Fleet's population looks a bit more diverse than what we see in-game.

𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬: 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧
(Apna apna sab choose karlo 👀)
Bharatanatyam
The girl in red and gold. Never steps out of the house without a bindi, loves the sun a little too much and gets the perfect golden hour photos. Will drag you out in the sun to prove that her hair is brown. Looks no less than a goddess in traditionals, rocks desi wear as well as western, always the best dressed in the room and sometimes the overdressed one. A walking saree encyclopedia, dreams to have a large wardrobe just for her sarees. Will also lend you some of her sarees and drapes them so well. If you are wearing a saree for a date, ask her for help. Reads a lot of detective books maybe, ranging from Sherlock Holmes to Feluda. Has learnt martial arts too, armed with wit, got the best comebacks and will fight for her friends. Highly intimidating when you meet her first until you get to witness the soft sunshine version of her. Photogenic, loves the camera, could also be a model. Her walk radiates power and confidence. Ambitious and full of ideas, commands attention easily with a snap of ger fingers. Heads turn at her when she enters the room, an eloquent speaker because she is well read. Loves puppies and will cry while watching cute puppy videos. Cooks delicious dishes and watch her lash out if she finds out that you skipped breakfast. A pure soul, too kind and generous for the world and does her best in spreading happiness around her.
'It's honestly a choice which we have to make. We can choose to see everything as cold and heartless around us or start seeing at the brighter side of things. Trust me, the latter is a better choice. Why would someone want to live such a miserable life laced with bitterness and resent. I know I cannot singlehandedly make everything right in the world, but I can surely make a difference in at least a single person's life? Why focus on things at the greater scale when we can make changes that should starts from us?"
Odissi
The shy girl next door, writes poetry in her rough notebook, hopeless romantic and a daydreamer. For her, outing means a visit to the temple. Ardent admirer of all types of art, stares at temple sculptures and statues, and is also a history lover. Pink lip gloss, jasmine flowers and a doe-eyed beauty. Makes flower jewellery and will gift you many of her own works if you are her friend. Wears light coloured clothes and minimal accessories, light feminine, crushes over book characters and will make you see the best traits in yourself but forgets to look at the good in herself. Recites romantic poetry in front of the mirror and pretends to be someone's muse, replaces herself with the characters in period dramas Has gorgeous hair but will always keep them in a messy bun, but god when she lets her hair down, she looks like an angel. Her social life includes playing with children and narrating them stories and fairytales.
'His lips gently follow the trail of the small dots of sandalwood paste on her back. It forms a serpentine path on her skin and ends on the curve of her waist where his lips gently caress her soft skin, delighted at the treasure gifted by the perfumed trail.'
"You haven't even held hands with a boy and yet you can come up with this? How?"
"Oh, it's nothing. You have to see my writing journal and you will definitely believe that I am well versed in the arts of love."
"Arts of love? Who uses that?"
"Me. Now come, let's watch Jodha Akbar."
"Again?!"
Kathak
Kurtis and Anarkalis. Has long hair that is half of the time braided. Might also wear a parandi at events. Has desi aesthetic moodboards on Pinterest and lives like it too minus the havelis and lots of expensive jewellery. If you are a poet, she will end up proposing you.
'जो मेरा नाम अपनी शायरी में अमर कर दे
मरूंगी तो केवल उस शायर के नाम'
"Umrao jaan 2.0 apni pariksha ki taiyari kare aapke non existent premi kavi ya shayar marks nahi dilayenge"
"Tauba tauba sara mood kharab kar diya"
Kuchipudi
Was made to learn dance and music as a child, knows how to play the veena or the sitar well, cannot sing but will play the instrument for you if you ask. Gold jewellery? No. Silver jewellery? No. Pearls? Absolutely! An all rounder, academically brilliant as well as in extra-curriculars, perfectionist and will breakdown at the slightest inconvenience. Loves to go on long walks, sunset photography, has a collection of journals and hauls stationary items. Collects fallen flowers and keeps them inside her books. soft smiles, long artistic fingers that always have ink spots, a small but a close friend group, wishes on flowers, so quiet that you might not her speak at times, notices the minute things about her friends and the people she meets. Looks too long into the mirror and loses herself, has too many questions but will never ask. Has pretty crazy dreams that could become book plots.
"Do you ever stare at your eyes in the mirror for a very long time? Do you feel your reflection change? Those eyes that look back at you... they have so much to say, they carry so many secrets inside them even though at a superficial level, it might seem that your reflection and you are the same, but it's not. When I look at myself in the mirror, I feel it's not me. I am not her nor am I anyone else. I feel I am a part of the galaxies, of stars and planets and of souls -- that I have existed here a long time ago and I have been reborn again for unknown reasons, reasons that somewhere my would would know. Do you not feel the same?"
Kathakali
Athletic, into sports, highly dramatic, can and will recite film dialogues at every situation, has a larger than life attitude, grand gestures and celebrations for her favourite people as well as for herself, always brimming with energy even at 3am, colourful flashy clothes that make her stand distinct from everyone, make-up game on point, a HUGE foodie, takes you to the best eateries and restaurants, indulges in pranks and all sorts of harmless mischief that makes her endearing, expresses everything just with her eyes. You can't say no to her because she will conjure such a facial expression that it would be difficult to say no which is why she gets away with mischief. Will debate about literature and philosophy, has a lot of knowledge about historical texts and scriptures, can easily make you laugh by imitating characters from stories and tales. Will also spam you with her thoughts and opinions on text and if you are in her close friend circle, keep your phone on because she will immerse herself about the latest book she read. Races with kids from her colony and lets them win, gully cricket vali didi, street smart, procrastinates assignments until the deadline is knocking at the door. Knows the secret spots in the city as well as their stories, has the best horror stories to narrate at a campfire.
"I know it's 2am, but is it okay if-"
"Even if I say no, you will tell me, but I am interested. Speak."
"What if all the characters in our epics were us, I mean like us normal human beings who achieved greatness and such divine status because of their work and somehow maybe that was the truth, but with time, we began thinking that we are not capable of becoming like them so we decided that we would take the credit of their hard work and replace it with magical powers and worship them, but not try and become like them? And somehow so many ideal kings, queen, warriors and artists when then look at us from heaven want us to achieve the same level of greatness like them? But they are sad that we think so less of ourselves? I am not denying God's presence though, don't get me wrong on that. I am talking about all the great people from stories that have been passed down to us. I do appreciate the creativity and imagination of the writers and poets involved, but what if we are actually failing to look more deeper into it. What if they want us to go beyond the veil of imagination in those stories and find ourselves in them?"
Manipuri
One word: Ethereal. Doesn't look like she belongs to this world. You saw her first at a waterfall, dressed in white and red shades, mostly prefers pastel shades, makes beautiful flower bouquets, has got a very melodious voice and when she sings by the waterfall with the swans sitting beside her, she appears like a water nymph. Playful eyes, whispers words, will wink and smile at you before disappearing into a run. She walks as if she is floating, got the lightest feet, soft dewy skin, nature's daughter. Sings before the Gods in temples, always has a peacock feather with her, makes one wonder if she is a human or someone divine, wants to live in a cottage overlooking lush green hills.
"Ironic isn't it that beauty, riches, pride, nothing shall exist in the end because we shall go back to mother nature, Prakriti? I shall be ash, a small heap of ash in the future and my stories, my experiences, the beauty which people love to talk about, nothing will exist. Even when humans leave a piece of land, they think it shall be dead and decayed, but they have forgotten Prakriti's nature. She is nourishing and a healer. She shall be the only one remaining."
Mohiniyattam
Loves to sit by a riverbank, serenity, looks at you as if she knows everything about you even about the words you shall speak next, mysterious vibe, doesn't trust anyone easily, lotuses are her favourite. Who is the girl standing waist deep in the river looking at the moon? Loves to wear alta on her hands and feet, wears anklets, longing side glances, perfectly arched eyebrows, dances in the rain, photographs everything, a natural charmer, goes to museums and coffee. Date ideas? Boat rides for evenings. A very private person, doesn't reveal much about herself, contemplates about Life and the Universe, space geek, stars are her friends.
When I look at you, at your great depths, I marvel at the power you have subdued while flowing through the land of Man. Born from the great peaks of mountain ranges, like a young girl who is pulsating with energy, you flow down your father's abode. Were you aware of your strength then? You cut through rocks, found your way through dense forests, and finally emerged into our land. We took you granted, knowing you shall forever exist for us, that you shall always nurture our bodies, our minds and our souls, until we witnessed your dance of death.
I wondered how Lasya, the feminine style of dance, also known as Goddess Parvati's style of dancing could be destructive? You swirled to great heights. With each turn, your colour darkened, absorbing the green from trees, the white from clouds, yellow from the sun, blue from the dawn and purple from sunsets. In the end your colour changed to brown and grey as you engulfed everything we held dear. You ultimately showed your hidden strength that you possesses in the days of girlhood until you heard us wail and weep. Motherhood came back to you, and with time, you began nursing us once again. The city repaired itself, we began learning about the secrets of life and death on your banks and children played with your gentle waters. And then you longed for love, so you advanced towards the sea, merging with its grand form. Once, I used to see it as a way of losing your entire identity, but now I see it as being one. You nourish man in the city and then with your dear love, the mighty sea, you nourish the life that resides inside water. I would like to be something like that.
"Is that why you spend so much time at the river?"
"Yes."
Sattriya
Plays the flute, the most non violent human, will never get angry, calm voice that might lead you to deep sleep. Nobody has seen her even glare at someone. Gold jewellery, squints at the sun, sings devotional songs for Krishna, cannot eat spicy food, lives in the hills, will definitely win if you race against her in the hills, knows quiet spots to appreciate the valleys. Has a great deal of knowledge about herbal medicines, one touch and you will feel that the pain is gone. Has Diy skin care methods ready, gives the best oil massage, cold hands in winter, looks adorable when covered in a shawl, red cheeks that appear like natural blush, makes the best tea.
"Close your eyes, open your ears and your mind too. You might begin to understand the language of the hills. They will send you messages of rain clouds, soft kisses of wintery breeze, fragrance of spring and gently warmth of the sun. Sometimes, if you look closely enough, you might get to know who you are in this world in front of them."

I DID IT :D
Even though it's based on dance, but everyone isn't into dance, so i did try my best to make it inclusive and ofc i had to write these paragraphs because I felt more creative lol (just to sum up the vibes maybe that's why) It was a bit tricky to make for Sattriya and Manipuri. I looked up some articles and then some Assam and Manipur tourism videos and also some of theri dance videos too for this. Now I mentioned some of rhe traits and stuff based on the dancing history and the repertoire plus also from the place where it belongs too
Tell me your favorite one and which one you relate to the most.
Shoutout to @remen-nyoodless for the hindi lines

Other Woman- Part 5
New year was cold. It killed you to get up from bed or do anything that required leaving blankets. Some people might have set their fairy lights in joy of the upcoming year, but you didn't want to. You just stood there by the balcony, hugging the shawl closer, staring at the golden lights. The fresh conversations were vivid, about Christmas celebration and traditions, but you could only listen and nod, it wasn't for you to say anything when your own husband was fighting for them. Your double standards were also a fresh conversation for others. But some did understand, some friends, going from the same fate. And they made your life a little better.
You peeked down the balcony railing to see your husband in the street, making his way home. You didn't know where he was, and you didn't want to know either. Ram and you were still sleeping in different rooms, his special blanket with you. You wondered if he was left cold in the nights. You remembered when Ram used to read out stories to you, as you'd knit him hand gloves. The considerations that his actions resonated was far warmer than any blankets and fire.
The clang on the door alerted that he was home. You stepped out of the balcony, going in the kitchen to get him some warm water. From the corner of your eyes, you could see that Ram was shuffling around in your room. Maybe he needed his drawer, you shrugged. Ram was sitting on his table, doing something, when you kept the glass down on his table. He looked up, smiling. "I got an invitation" he said, handing you an envelop.
The white envelop had a little flower on it. You opened it, pulling out a blue card. It was a new year celebration party from one of your friends. You sat down on the bed, reading it. "That's nice" you muttered, placing it on table. The awkward distance between you, made you both long for each other. Naturally, you would have your arms around him, reading the card aloud. He'd pull you in his lap, and then you would ask which saree to wear. Your eyes met, an expression of grimace on both your faces. It was as if you both were thinking the same thing. You looked away, and then left the room.
...................................
Ram quickly pulled the bill out of his drawer the next morning, when you were having your tea. "I am gonna head out for a while" he said, and left the house. He stepped in the street, the morning was warm. Hopefully it won't be cold either when you will be leaving for the party. Ram thought about yesterday evening. Will the time like that come back, when you were so free spirited and loving? Another question, far more concerning, dawned on him. Did he deserve to have the loving and carefree y/n he broke down? He was there to peel all the oranges you had, but it was necessary that you would be able to do that for yourself. Or maybe you were doing it because you weren't no more sure that your own husband would stay for you.
Ram reached the shop, rushing in. The jeweler, Sarla, he has been meeting for some days, was nowhere to be seen. She understood his situation, and decided to get a custom ring made for you. They spent hours figuring out the cut, style, color, design, browsing through books and reviews to find the perfect combination for you. The only problem was that Sarla didn't like Ram.
"You are back" she said loudly, appearing from the curtains. Ram sighed. "Here, what's the progress?" He asked, handing the bill. "Well I talked to the worker and that ring isn't possible" she said, pulling a stack of boxes out. Ram whined. "Listen, cop man, I am trying. It is not my fault the designs you think of are neither functional nor pretty" she said. Ram seethed, but knew better than to say anything. "But I do have an idea" Sarla pulled out her notepad, quickly scrolling through her design sketches. "What if you get her a thin, light blue set, with earrings, choker and a ring?" Ram's eyebrows shot up. "The custom ring is already so costly, how can I get the whole set?" he asked, peeking a look at the design. His breath hitched. The intricate design, simplicity yet the efforts, Ram imagined the set on you and he couldn't think of anything else. Sarla slid a small box towards him.
Ram hesitated before opening it. Sarla nodded, a soft smile on her face. The ring had a blue four line star with silver lines on side. It looked straight out of a fairy book and Ram knew you would love it. "It was an old design. It's way cheaper than the ring" Sarla's statement snapped Ram out of his imagination and he looked up with his big brown eyes. Ram decided to get the set, and took the ring with himself. He almost eloped from the door, pocketing the ornament in his trousers. There was a glee in his heart, finding the perfect ring for his perfect wife. Ram never got to give you an actual engagement ring- he hoped this would make up for it. For a new start. Ram didn't even got to cross the market when he saw a familiar pair of eyes calling his name. A pair of eyes he loathed to recognize. A pair of eyes that were not yours, and if he was caught, there would be no making up.

what's your favourite kind of suit to wear?
I did a college course where my uniform was a suit and they were super strict on traditional grooming rules (black shoes means black full length socks, sleeve of your shirt always needs to be longer than your blazer, etc)
So I got very used to that and love a super formal 3 piece suit with a mix of two or three colours. I do love putting in the occasional print and trying new stuff too! (I made a suit out of one my mom’s old sarees)
I’m not a big fan of pairing T-shirts or sneakers with suits to make it more modern or funky looking. I’m also not a fan or overly baggy cuts or loose material, like a lot of women’s suits are made commercially (they look like bathrobes with palazzos)
I think they’re super fun to wear but I wouldn’t consider it a suit suit if that makes sense (no hate at all intended please wear whatever you like)

Legend of Zelda Theme Park - Gerudo Desert
At long last, I've found a way to add the desert to my theme park!
Tumblr media
At the western end of the Dark World is the entrance to a sandstone canyon which meanders a bit and then debouches onto a lively bazaar. Buildings are constructed from off-white masonry contrasting with brilliantly colored fabrics and mosaics. There are numerous planters containing palm trees and cacti to help direct foot traffic as well as providing bench space and extra shade. Near the center of the plaza is a circular fountain featuring a statue of a woman wielding a sword, surrounded by more vegetation. The outside edge of the area is bounded with facades representing sand dunes, among which can be seen landmarks such as the OoT Desert Colossus and BoTW Gerudo Town. From time to time, an animated figure of a Molduga arches from one sand dune to another like a breaching whale.
Tumblr media
Attractions
Nabooru’s Training Course: A combination maze and obstacle course—periodically, the winding corridors offer an opportunity to hone your skills as an elite bandit…but if you don’t feel up to tackling the balance beam, overhead bars, crawl net, or other physical challenge, a normal path continues alongside the obstacle. This is just the beginners’ course—from time to time, you can peek through to a more advanced course where Gerudo make trapeze-caliber leaps over jets of fire, dodge flying darts, and disable booby traps (or fail to do so!). At the end of the maze is a playground featuring more things to climb and jump in, just in case you had any excess energy left.
Gerudo Warriors’ Procession: Taking place at scheduled intervals in the bazaar, a squad of the Gerudo tribe’s most impressive warriors parade through the street to a stage where they demonstrate some of their combat skills.
Skipper’s Time-Shifted Boat Tour: Inspired by the Lanayru Sand Sea from Skyward Sword, this dark ride uses projection mapping, augmented reality goggles, and a bit of motion simulation to create the illusion of riding in a boat through a desert that has been transformed into an ancient ocean, but only in a set radius around the craft thanks to the aura of the Timeshift Stone. Fantastic corals appear and disappear, long-decayed ships spring back into operation only to wither again as the boat leaves them behind, the bleached bones of sea monsters turn into living threats until the robot guide manages to outrun them. The queue includes a few interactive “windows” where the push of a button activates a Timeshift Stone to alter a scene—a massive tree reverts to a tiny sapling in a meadow, a crumbled ruin becomes a bustling fortress in its heyday, etc.
Sand-Seal Rally Race: A high-speed ride along a figure-eight racing track, in a seal-drawn “sand sled.” Watch out when you get to the crossing point—don’t crash with another sled!
Shops
5. Silken Palace: Scarves, shawls, capelets, veils, and other free-flowing clothing and accessories made from scrumptiously colored and patterned fabrics…even sarees! Knowledgeable staff can show how to properly put on your purchases if you need help.
6. Hotel Oasis Spa Shop: A health and beauty shop featuring LoZ-inspired makeup palettes, custom-blended perfumes and colognes, bath salts, soaps, scrubs, massage oils, and other products to pamper your skin after a long day in the desert.
7. Starlight Memories: A jewelry boutique specializing in big, showy styles of earrings, bracelets, necklaces, brooches, and even diadems. Many pieces are inspired by the traditional jewelry styles of the Middle East and South Asia.
8. Sand-Seal Adoption Center: The Sand-Seal Rally Race exits through this shop specializing in plush toys of sand seals and other desert creatures both real and fanciful, with an optional “adoption ceremony” for your special new friend.
9. Miscellaneous Merchandise Booths: Small spaces leased out to small business retailers whose wares are in line with the overall “vibe” of the Bazaar.
Eateries
10. Gerudo Bistro: A café with well-shaded patio seating, featuring a menu of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern entrees and appetizers.
11. Arbiter’s Grounds: An Arabian/Persian/Turkish style coffee and tea bar, harking back to the ancient relationship with coffee enjoyed by the cultures that inspired the Gerudo. Brews are available hot, iced, flavored, even blended with ice cream for a perky smoothie. Or head next door…
12. Kara Kara Creamery: Beat the heat with frozen treats! Ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet, milkshakes, and smoothies are all available here, made to order. If you’re with a group, try the Seven Heroines Sundae, with seven “orbs” of different flavors reflecting the virtues prized by the Gerudo: skill, spirit, endurance, knowledge, flight, motion, and gentleness.

KTAW Day #1: Culture

Holi: Festival of Colors, Love and Spring
"How do we wake her up?" Kiara faintly hears Raelyn muttering.
"Just gently nudge her arm, but hurry my love, this breakfast tray is quite heavy." Hana's voice sounds somewhere in the cloud of light sleep Kiara was drifting in. Then suddenly Kiara was being wildly shaken.
"Wakey wakey, eggs and bakey...well not really, but malpuas didn't rhyme so..." Raelyn-
"Gently, Rae, gently!" Hana admonishes Raelyn and then looks at Kiara who is sitting up disheveled and disoriented.
"Sorry Kiara, I think they're excited for our first color festival." Hana says apologetically.
"We brought you breakfast!" Raelyn sings as Hana sits the tray in Kiara's lap.
"Oh my...this is so sweet!" Kiara says touched by her best friends surprising her with breakfast in bed.
"Literally so sweet, I've had a stack of rainbow waffles and I'm about to bounce off the walls." Kiara laughs at Raelyn before beginning to nibble on her sweet breakfast.
"We'll let you eat in peace, Kiara, meet us downstairs when you're ready?" Hana says while swatting at Raelyn's hand who was trying to steal an idli (a savory rice cake) from Kiara's plate.
"I will." Kiara says smiling at the couple's antics and admiring the view outside of her window as they shut the door behind them.
An hour later, Kiara came down into the main living room at the small villa in Mathura, the Valtoria duchesses had rented for the weekend. The rest of the friend group had prior obligations and weren't able to attend but miraculously, Kiara was in-between social events and with a little pleading from Hana, Kiara joined the couple for their first Holi festival.
Kiara knew about Holi and what it stood for. A celebration of the end of winter and the beginning of spring, a celebration of love, and an occasion to reset and renew ruptured relationships and end conflicts. But knowing the indept cultural and historical aspects of the Hindu traditions, didn't mean Kiara had ever participated and looking at the couple in matching white and pink flower saree and kurta, Kiara felt awkward and out of place in her black dress.

Hana's saree and Raelyn's white kurta and trousers with pink rose jacket.
The couple turns at Kiara's arrival.
"I knew she'd be wearing something black!" Raelyn exclaims.
"Oh, je suis dèsolè, is this dress not appropriate?" Kiara asks looking down at her dress unsure.
"You rock black like a queen, Kiara, but you gotta wear light colors so the colors of the powders show up." Raelyn says.
"Don't worry, we got a gift for you." Hana says before opening a conveniently nearby closet and pulling out a dress in a garment bag.
Trying the beautiful silk ruffle saree on in the bathroom, she marvels at the colors before coming out to show it off.

"Whoa!" Raelyn-
"Ahh! I got the size right!" Hana claps.
"Hana...Raelyn...merci beaucoup...this is so beautiful, it's almost a shame that we're about to ruin it." Kiara says hugging Hana.
"Speaking of..." Raelyn says grinning mischievously at Kiara before gently dabbing bright green powder on her nose. The two stand staring at each other in a show down.
"Oh, this is war." Kiara says quietly, slowly smirking. The grin on Raelyn's face slips off when Hana hands Kiara a heaping bag of pink powder.
"Now, now hold on a minute!" They say backing out of the patio doors at the two grinning ladies that were both holding bags of powder, advancing on Raelyn.
"Rae darling? You really should be running." Hana says causing Raelyn to squeal and run. Hana and Kiara laugh as they chase their quarry.
