toad in the hole >.>
Tumblr media
Context: Where I live (or at the very least, according to my partner) a "toad in the hole" is where you cut a hole in a piece of bread and fry it with an egg in the middle.
I made him breakfast today and this is what came of it.
Rahadin is toast.

Onion and Herb Toad in the Hole
Tumblr media
This hearty and fragrant Onion and Herb Toad in the Hole, makes a wonderfully comforting dinner on a rainy night. The goat's milk also adds a deeper flavour to this staple of pub grub!
Ingredients (serves 2):
1 cup plain flour
½ teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
2 large eggs
a heaped teaspoon Dijon Mustard
1 ½ cups goat's milk*
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 (100-gram/3.5-ounce) good quality pork sausages (like Toulouse sausages)
a Green Onion
4 leaves fresh Garden Sage
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary
*I used goat's milk to make it suitable for my Mum, who's allergic to cow's milk
Preheat oven to 200°C/395°F.
In a large bowl, combine flour, salt and black pepper. Dig a well in the middle and break in the eggs. Add Dijon Mustard, gently whisking while gradually adding the goat's milk, until the mixture is smooth and silky. Set aside.
Place a medium baking tin on the stove, over a medium flame. Add olive oil. Once hot, add the Toulouse sausages, and cook, browning on all sides, about 5 minutes.
Thinly slice white part of the Green Onion, saving green part for later, and stir into the tin. Fry, a couple of minutes.
Finely chop Sage, and stir into the tin, along with dried thyme and rosemary. Cook, a couple of minutes more.
Place the tin in the middle of the oven, and allow to heat, a couple of minutes..
Open the oven door, and quickly pour the Yorkshire pudding mixture. Close the oven door, and cook, for a further 30 to 35 minutes, at 200°C/395°F.
Finely chop reserved green part of the Green Onion. Set aside.
Serve Onion and Herb Toad in the Hole hot, sprinkled with chopped green part of the Green Onion.

Eggtober 3 Toad in the Hole/Egg in a Basket (With Heart-Shaped Toast Soldier for DIPPING.) I did this one basically first thing today so I had even more time for it. Clip Studio Paint, Gouache brush, Freckle Pen, and the Perspective tool to make the toast and heart shapes look right. 10 Colors. About 1 hour. I really love the way the shading on the egg turned out on this one. Texturing the bread, despite using the freckle pen, was pretty hard and I think it needs more polish, but for my first time painting bread and not sketching it, I think it’s good! This is my favorite one so far. I think I’m getting a little better every day. I was debating between toad in a hole and soft boiled egg today, but I saw someone did a soft-boiled egg in an egg cup recently so I decided to save that one. I’ll probably do toast soldiers when I get around to painting the soft boiled egg too, because a creamy soft yolk is the perfect dip for crispy toast! Also, Happy Birthday to @quezify, Master of All Things Egg!

I promised to cook some toad in the hole for my relatives at Sydney and for the first time used one of those big ovens connected to the kitchen wtf 👁 👁
It came out well luckily and tasted great with some gravy. But man it must be cumbersome to have to preheat your ovens forever to bake whatever any time lmao

I keep seeing all sorts of tricky recipes for Yorkshire puddings and yet the way I make them is a doddle – a quick, easy, amazingly cheap and delicious doddle so I thought I ought to get it out ther

Cornbread toad in the hole
I was looking for a lighter way to make toad in the hole that doesn’t require as much oil and came across this recipe, which uses cornbread in place of the usual yorkshire pudding batter. I baked this using frylight 1 calorie spray and it didn’t stick at all. The original recipe below calls for only 1 tbsp olive oil. More importantly, it tasted great! Recipe from Delicious Ingredients 2 x 400g…

Thyme and Sage Toad in the Hole
Tumblr media
One of my favourite ways to end a Sunday is watching Midsomer Murders on telly (or whichever other cherished detective series is on; or rugby)! As tonight it will be bizarre murders in the Causton area, I am making a hearty, tasty, flavourful and very British Thyme and Sage Toad in the Hole! Happy Sunday!
Ingredients (serves 2 to 4):
1 1/2 cup plain flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
a heaped teaspoon Dijon Mustard
2 1/2 cups semi-skimmed milk
4 (100-gram/3.5-ounce) good quality pork sausages (like Toulouse sausages)
1 tablespoon olive oil
3 fluffy sprigs fresh thyme
4 leaves fresh sage
Preheat oven to 200°C/395°F.
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Dig a well in the middle and break in the eggs. Add Dijon Mustard, gently whisking while gradually adding the milk, until the mixture is smooth and silky. Set aside.
In a large baking dish, drizzle Toulouse sausages with olive oil and rub them thoroughly. Place the dish in the middle of the oven, and roast sausages, for about 15 to 20 minutes, at 200°C/395°F, turning them occasionally.
Remove thyme leaves from their stalks, and finely chop sage leaves.
Open the oven door,  quickly sprinkle thyme leaves and chopped sage in the baking dish, flip sausages on the other side, and pour the Yorkshire pudding mixture. Close the oven door, and cook, for a further 30 to 35 minutes, at 200°C/395°F.
Serve Thyme and Sage Toad in the Hole hot, with a rich Onion Gravy, if you wish.
