yujin loves dating silly little strolls in a park! 🥺 she'd drive you both to one of the prettiest and biggest parks in the city and just take your hand and go for a relaxing walk! she's so in love with you :(( she'd just stare at you while you tell her about a few funny things that happened throughout the week so far,, smiles so brightly when you laugh, she just loves your voice so much she could listen to you talk about anything forever 😣 she'll sit the two of you down by a tree and cuddle up to you, sometimes kissing you and laughing at the way you would blush and look away,, and she's just a sucker for the way you would absentmindedly play with her hands while you're sitting there 💕 and best believe she'll capture every moment of you during your time there! her gallery is literally just you and it's so sweet ☹️☹️
yujin definitely waits up for you if you happen to get held up at work, even if you come home after midnight :(( you'd find her sitting up on the bed with a book on her lap wearing her stupid nerdy glasses, barely awake and so tired 💔 you pepper her face with kisses and she would only pout and blink sleepily at you, the cutieeeee 🥺 she'd whine and pretend to be upset that you're home way too late but really, all that 'anger' is towards your boss for always giving you so much work 😣😣 and omg even when she's tired from staying up, she will NAWT leave you alone 😭 she's forcing herself out of bed and tailing you very closely while you make and sip on your tea, doesn't even let herself finally sleep while you're in the shower and chooses to be awake for another half hour bcs she really can't sleep without you 🥺 she is all over you when you finally join her in bed—leg over your body, arms wrapped tightly around you, nose buried in your hair, and whispering sleepy nonsense against your skin before she finally succumbs to sleep.. she's so silly.
yujin wakes up on top of you in the mornings 😭😭 but she's not like, suffocating you she actually serves as an extra warm and soft blanket!! like, you'd always find her sleeping peacefully on your chest and you can't help but kiss her forehead and thread your fingers through her hair :(( more often than not, she'd stir awake and you'd feel a bit guilty for cutting her rest short but her bright smile and lame ass "hey, beautiful~" makes it all not a big deal 🥺💖 neither of you will ever stop falling in love with each other.. Anon, while I appreciate your clarification, your message still includes subjective and unsupported claims that paint me in a negative light. I hope you understand I know better than to publish my own callout post. I cannot be everything for everyone. I am not a celebrity with a PR team but a person with my own experiences and a job who blogs in my free time. If I blog about what's familiar to me, I'm centering myself and maliciously excluding others. Yet if I blog about experiences I'm not familiar with, I'm stepping out of my lane and trying to speak for others. If every word written about identity and overcoming prejudice has to be perfect, then the only way to win is to not talk about it at all.
Recently, I have blogged about the overlap in experiences between cis or marginally cis queer people and trans people. I am interested in establishing common ground and bonding, even organizing over it. That said, in a culture of "LGB alliance," I realize the responsibility of reconciliation falls moreso on cis people. I am cis. Yes, my own weird version of it, but cis. Cis enough to know that when ghouls in Congress and on TV talk about "gender ideology," they don't have me in mind. All my trans friends are terrified right now, but my cis gay friends are only afraid if they've specifically decided to tune into the news. The ability to turn off the news and ignore it is a privilege. There is a social utility in unpacking these invisible knapsacks.
I also believe that online "check your privilege" culture is often hollow and self serving. When I posted a joke roast of Taylor Swift, I was flooded with comments decrying me as a "cis white gay," embellished with remarks about how I'm probably ignorant, sex-obsessed and disease-ridden. Nevermind the fact that Taylor Swift is herself a cis straight white woman and that cis white gays make up her most loyal following (and presumably many of the comments lobbed in my direction). This is one of many examples where it's not about identity politics at all, except to embellish and connote moral superiority. I believe cis white gay men do hold privilege in many ways--look no further than how HIV was considered "over" once it went from being seen as a "gay disease" to a "black disease," or how so many of us look the other way in this current transphobic climate. But what, for instance, does Taylor Swift have to do with any of this?
That is one problem with privilege discourse, but also, it's oversimplified. Checking my privilege is a mathematical equation. Cis plus man minus gay. There is no convenient formula that accounts for the fact that I have never been welcome among men or treated as "one of the boys," that I had to find my own self worth outside of their inclusion. It doesn't account for the fact that "cis" is the approximate conclusion I reached after countless clandestine name and pronoun changes in forums and group chats, "what if I had just been born a girl" questions, and anger at the expectation to be a "real man" or a "man" at all. And I just don't have this explanation in my back pocket all the time.
I woke up this morning, checked my inbox, and was informed that there's a callout post going around about me. Something to do with problematic daddy kinks and my "fuck that old man" shitposts. Whatever. I found it funny. What stood out to me is that a popular blogger who to my knowledge has never posted about any of that was roped into it just for reblogging from me. She was considered guilty by association with me, and my perceived guilt was at best subjective and at worst prejudiced. So maybe I'm on the defensive today. Maybe this is my Lana Del Rey "question for the culture" meltdown. But if you want to dive into my psyche and help me to "do better," talk to me like a person and not a public figure.

One of the most brilliant, anxiety ridden queens on her whole planet. She’s so paranoid that she has a backup plan for just about anything. She predicted the world was going to end via meteors and had a ship fully ready to go for several years, and had a mental breakdown when she ended up being right. Overthinking is her strongest skill, making plans for her plans just in case something she didn’t think of happened. Her ship, despite being made of old and ruined tech, is so heavily equipped with safety features that she should probably be in charge of OSHA because ain’t no one getting hurt on that thing. Would go outside in a hamster bubble.

Atroxx lives in a swamp full of boiling tar, lurking in the dark and serving as something of a dark legend to the locals. They fear her and often leave her sacrifices, believing her to be a monster or some sort of demon. She just likes getting free things out of it and sometimes toys with the minds those who wander a little too far out of the torchlight, taunting them from within the darkness. If you survive an encounter with her, she's not very eloquent, and is quite stubborn and impatient, unpredictable and almost wild in behavior. She is also, however, incredibly resourceful and clever.

he gathered an aliance, heavily inspired by the sufferer's rebellion, and rises up against the empire. being a highblood he held a greater chance against the empress and gl'bgolyb, and after a strenuous battle he manages to take down the horrorterror and the empress in turn

Sure, she was *supposed* to kill him, but he's so sweet and cute and interesting!!! She's autistic and love learning about biology and poisons specifically and she's bisexual, though technically she's not interested in anyone but Punkin. He's her world! Her lusus, Sweetbaby, is a semi-aquatic possum with three tails that she uses to propel herself through water.

Baxtin used to be part of a semi-popular lowblood boyband called Sequence, though they fell out of popularity and while they aren't officially broken up... It's been a couple sweeps since they toured or even met up. Instead Baxtin spends his nights farming melons and gourds from seeds he kinda just found and decided to cultivate. Luckily his lusus, Timber, loves them. Timber is a huge south alternian longhorn bull and has cartoon physics for no known reason. He is actively a problem for the resident of Baxtin's town. This is upsetting for Baxtin cause he's incredibly socially anxious and scared of... well everything. He tends to be very spacey and doesn't listen to retain things very well outside of his music, but he's got major artistic blockage atm. His neighbor and best friend Vivsy keeps him grounded, though they don't see eye to eye very often (mostly on Vivisy's side- and not cause he's shorter!!)

The silliest, most self deprecating emo you’ll ever have the displeasure of meeting. His favorite movies would be the troll twilight saga, and they would make fanfiction of his rainbow drinker oc and Troll Edward. They have such a large obsession with rainbow drinkers that it’s consumed almost everything in his life. They would geek out if they ever met Kanaya, it would be so bad they’d probably faint. Would bite people to taste the blood and then gag when it tastes bad.

19 yo Mage of Void hemoanon, Achlys is a air-headed party girl who likes to take it easy, life is definitely too short to be worried about every little thing. She's quite friendly for a troll and always knows what to say to please people. She changes quadrants pretty often.
However when SGRUB begins she seems to know just where to look to learn all the rules and easily makes herself the leader before anyone notices. Not to mention her fake lusus and dreamself that seems to be puppeted by horrorterrors…

re-reading chapter 61 in the hopes of finding more info on the communication faries (there doesn't seem to be much) and oh look! that's also the "kabru and mithrun get stuck together" chapter
u want some kabumisu thoughts

kabru is trying to pick mithrun apart to best ingratiate himself so he can then sabotage the canaries' attempt to retake the dungeon before laios can defeat the lunatic magician. typical kabru solution to a problem; he knows he's not as good of a fighter as he is a manipulator. he also doesn't trust mithrun, nor does he think mithrun trusts him. the best course of action is to get mithrun as close to trust as he can for a good chance to strike.

...but he's finding it hard to do. it's not compelling him the way this sort of task usually does, even if it's his only plan.

even so, when they run into a shapeshifter, kabru's version of mithrun is physically identical and its personality seems the same as well. kabru's skills of observation are not to be taken lightly.

(mithrun is not even remotely skilled in this department. i imagine the way his trauma has changed his view of the world is also involved though)

besides being a funny gag, mithrun's evident disinterest in picking kabru apart as a person calms him down. this is when he starts to see mithrun less as a threatening enemy and more just... a kind of strange person.

i don't have much to say about this one, it's just really fucking funny. he doesn't even realize that scribbly version of kabru is wrong. i assume his vision isn't the issue here; like yes it must be limited with only the one eye, but that's not limited vision, that's "my brain doesn't parse the world the way other people's do". mithrun TBI real. anyway
(i'm trying to talk about kabumisu so i'm not gonna post all the fucking hysterical panels of kabru lamenting turning into laios if he has to cook monsters, but. go re-read chapter 61 if you haven't recently, it's very good)

not to read too much into an adorable smile, but i think seeing mithrun eat like a child is endearing kabru to him a lot. it's getting harder and harder to view him as an enigmatic adversary. sure, there's plenty of mysteries surrounding him, but he's also just... not a very scary person, nor does he hold ill will towards kabru. he's not an enemy.

mithrun saving kabru from nightmares after they eat is probably another point in his favor (even if he smacked kabru to do it). kabru doesn't know yet exactly why he's been told to tend to mithrun--why mithrun needs tending at all--but mithrun being willing to protect him in turn certainly implies he's not resentful of the arrangement.

talk about ship fuel... but on a more serious note, i really love how kabru jumps into action here. it's very in-character for him, but also it's just a good show of what that character is--he's already pushing himself to go above and beyond for a man he didn't want to be stuck with in a situation he didn't ask for. i think he's already fond of mithrun to some degree by this point, but even so... his concern is evident, and it's not self-serving. kabru isn't trying to keep mithrun alive to further his own goals... he's trying to keep mithrun alive because he's a person and he deserves to live. we know kabru has no qualms with murdering people if they're "bad" (and what that says for him and his perceptions about when it's okay to choose life or death for someone else is surely an entire post on its own), but he doesn't want mithrun to die nor does he think mithrun is worthy of death in general.

anyway this is why i stopped reading and started making this post. kabru wished to care for mithrun so bad that the dungeon answered his call. the way mithrun says this, it implies this isn't just a normal desire; the dungeon would be granting wishes all the time in that case. (however, through his lens, we for sure can spot the many times it has helped the touden party). the desire here was just that strong.

Hello! I haven’t posted anything for…a while now lmao but I HAVE been drawing. So, allow me to dump all my art in this post so I can disappear off the face of the Earth again because composing a good post is too much effort for my pathetic brain to handle /hj
I’ll try to put them in order of when they were made, but I’ll also group them into categories. The date as well as my signature can be found on all of the drawings (if you care lol)
This is a drawing I did for a friend of mine. It’s his original character, Mad Snake. Normally, I don’t like taking requests, but I genuinely enjoyed drawing this guy, so I didn’t mind it. He was a step out of my comfort zone, and I liked how he turned out!

Now, the Jaiden pieces! The first one was my idea that Jaiden started performing for Las Casualonas (but, like, as a singer or stage personality. She never actually did anything spicy). I also thought she and Melissa could have a really funny dynamic. Like some sort of rivalry for the audience’s attention/love.
The second picture, as it obviously states, is what I headcannon Jaiden looks like working for the federation. I had fun with her scythe (and if you pay close attention, you can see a little something in the reflection:])
And the third one is of Jaiden stretching w/ her wings. It’s also the most recent of this entire batch. Basically, I finally came up with a way that I liked to draw wings and had a sketch in my sketchbook of that pose, so I drew Jaiden. Her shirt intentionally comes down low in the back to make space for the wings, and her hands are out of frame because I didn’t want to draw them. Also, that one only took me about 2 and a half hours, where most of the other took from 6-8 hours, so…lol

The next pieces are an original work from 8th grade an the redraw two years later. It was an assignment that we had to read a novel and then make a trailer for it. I asked to make a drawing instead, and thus, this creation was born.
I changed a little bit, like putting two of the characters in the trees instead of a fading color behind them. Overall, they both took me three days and I’m really happy about how the redraw turned out.

I made a whole spread in my sketchbook for him (I ran out of images, so I didn’t include it here. The Evolution of Hob Gadling
(and Dreamling as its consequence)
This is inspired by this post. The person asked not to fight in the comment section and I want to respect their wishes. The premise was just too good to let it go entirely, they pointed out many accurate things; so I’d like to bring up some additional aspects I think are important to consider to understand the totality of the episode. (I’m drawing on the TV show, mainly, because I don’t have the comics present).
In their quest for immortality and defeating death there really is no difference between Burgess and Hob in 1389 and I’m pretty sure that if Hob had had the means, he, too, would have tried to capture Death and make a bargain, just as ruthlessly, might even have become greedy, same as Burgess. 
Hob is self-centred and ignorant at the beginning and stays it for a long time. I’ve thought a lot about the meetings once a century from 1489 going onward and how in the first conversation Hob asks if Dream is interested in him, while Dream only cares about Hob’s experience of the world. 
Dream pretty much intends to use Hob to prove a point, which is that Dream is justified in being tired of life himself. 
Hob appears as the personification and representation of Western European/White humanity in the comic, which means he will not be non-conformist or critical of society; he just goes with the flow, following the currents of shady justification that is Western thought and philosophy over the centuries. He is not a creative or great mind. He will probably never write a book or learn a musical instrument; he’s just some guy.
It took Dream pointing out the cruelty of the slave trade for him to even consider it. Trying to protect Dream against Lady Johanna is a matter of civil courage, which people show no matter their political beliefs – it is a key trait of humanity.
 In the 18th century, too, Hob just does things how they’re done. Calling Lushing Lou “the hospital” and thinking it funny, etc. However, I must point out that he is receptive to Dream’s assertions about her and beyond being quick to judge, as society is, he considers her as a person (if not becomes sympathetic towards her) when he learns more about her through Dream.
I do not think it is loneliness that motivates Hob to offer Dream friendship. Humans strive for connection, that is true, but in some way we can never totally achieve it. And Hob is not much more lonely then he was in the 14th century, before he became immortal: an age where death of close family was common and a force to be reckoned with; child mortality was high, plague was everywhere and people who got sick or hurt simply died. He probably grew up used to everyone around him dying. The loneliness that Hob might experience is simply the human condition of an individual that understands itself as a separate person/entity.
Just as instinctual is his reaching out to Dream for friendship, his need to connect with people. He sees human traits in Dream and relates to him.Hob basically says “I think I’m worthy of your friendship” to a clearly prideful eldritch being whom he knows nothing about.
It is simply the audacity of a humanity that considers itself worth of love, that considers itself equal. Hob is very much the personification of a life form that writes stories upon stories about their own cruelty and how it would be better if they didn’t exist at all but still found their right to existence on their capability to love, on their capability of creation, not least the creation of relationships of all kinds.
Whereupon Dream’s reaction is that of a god (I know he is not a god, but his role is very similar) who looks in disdain upon those he was meant to serve. Therefore, his acknowledgement of friendship is so important in 2022; he essentially deems humanity worthy of love. For this meta-level it is no importance if their relationship is platonic or romantic, what matters is their mutual respect and caring about one another.
As to why people ship Dreamling: Hob’s character is not only coined by his representation of humanity but by his love for and of life, his enjoyment of simple things (see: ale to drink, people to drink it with). Whereas Dream appears as simply fulfilling a duty, burdened by his role; depression is a recurring theme when it comes to his character. In loving Hob beyond the level of platonic friendship (again, it doesn’t matter if it’s queerplatonic or romantic) and seeking his company more frequently, Dream essentially ceases to be a tragically flawed character destined to bring about his own doom. He is in love with the love of life in a time where he struggles with loving life on his own accord. Hob is also one of the only characters in the TV show who is not either Dream’s enemy, his subject or his family; instead he appears as Dream’s opposite.
Hob in 2022 on the other hand is someone who lives in a pluralistic society, where go with the flow could be  many things, which means that he cannot serve as the personification of humanity anymore, because the complexity of humanity is finally acknowledged and cannot be represented by a single person. He is thus free to find his own way in a individualistic society as one amongst many others, is basically forced to think for himself and make his own decisions. (The existential dread as described by Sartre). This impression is reinforced by the closing of the White Horse and Hob being stood up in 1989. It is obvious that without the consistency of the centennial meetings Hob’s purpose for live – that of telling about it, is no longer relevant. Hob feels adrift, so he decides to cling to the closest thing that he has to a constant and waits for Dream in the nearest Inn. 
But it isn’t enough. Hob is forced to make a life in this new, everchanging world, so he becomes a teacher/professor (based on him grading papers). Now we do not know his profession in 1889 or 1989, but regardless this new position symbolizes the change Hob has gone through. It is his first profession over the centuries where its prestige is not based on the opinion of society (as were his previous knighthood or his status as a tradesman) but on respect and his own abilities. With teaching also comes responsibility which he previously preferred to brush off.
But still, he is anchorless, still he comes to the New Inn. When Dream comes back, he brings that needed affirmation with him. 
In conclusion, over the course of their acquaintance, Dream and Hob drift towards each other, Dream overcomes his sense of superiority and learns to enjoy life again while Hob learns to become responsible for his actions, a responsibility that is superimposed on Dream as the ruler of a realm.
Both have done horrible, unforgivable things in their pasts, but both find themselves changing and encouraging change within the other. Neither of them are good people, not even in 2022 (judged by current morality standards they may even be the villains of other people’s stories) but they’re good for one another as in they complete each other. (It is this complexity which makes it so difficult to write these characters accurately in fanfiction; much of what comprises them is a metaphysical undercurrent and never said out loud but cannot be disregarded in characterizations.)
And then there is of course the tension underlying of all their interactions, 1489 “are you interested in me?”, 1589 Hob being jealous, 1689 the sadness and first moment of compassion in Dream’s eyes when he thinks Hob wants to die (which is also sadness for himself, for having been right), in 1789 especially their facial expressions and body language (think of Hob nervously tugging at his ear), Dream’s willingness to open up slowly in 1889 and their sickeningly fond smiles in 2022. 
For Dreamling becoming a possibility, it is very important that we know nothing of how their conversation goes in 2022. We see only Dream’s relaxed posture and Hob’s broader than ever smile, which open a wide range of possibility for how their relationship proceeds. All of them are positive.
Do I think their relationship could have turned romantic anytime before 2022? No.
 But by 2022 both of them have evolved enough that love between them becomes not only possible but also very probable.

The ascent up the gloomy staircase was devoid of conversation. The single sound that carries through the narrow passage is a footstep ricochet, though these only appear to be generated by you.
It’s funny, you think, out the two of you it would have been more probable that Morpheus’ lace up boots would cause such a noise, rather than your bare feet.
Morpheus lets you lead the way. You are hyper aware of him maintaining a two-step distance behind you despite the fact that he moves soundlessly.
It is like he is a transmission and you are a receiver. Something keeps calling to you, prickling the outer layers of your mind, thrumming in your bones.
It's a heady, intoxicating sensation. One that tricks every neuron into thinking it's alive. You worry that it’s the kind of thing you could become dependent on, especially since it was infinitely better than the guilt ridden state you had been in for so many days now.
You are grateful when you complete your climb and have something to take away such consuming thoughts.
You push the door to your bedroom open and immediately take up residence on the bed. You drag the covers up to your hips and drink in the feeling of freshly washed linen on your skin.
Morpheus stands a polite distance from you.
You turn on the lamp and gesture for him to use the chair.
He sits gracefully, straightening up and staring at you with his transcendent eyes.
“May I ask you some questions?” You ask timidly.
“You may.”
"You're not a human, are you? Not really, even though you look like one."
"You are correct. I am not human."
"Are you a God, like in Norse or Greek mythology?"
"I am part of a family of entities known as the Endless. Seven siblings, all with different functions that serve humanity. I am the third sibling, Dream."
“Dream of the Endless.” You realise out loud, making sense of one of the monikers he told you yesterday.
"Yes."
“And your function is to create dreams and nightmares?”
He nods an affirmation before adding, “I provide a place for dreamers to explore their wants, forge their hopes and to face their fears.”
You decide right then that you love the way he constructs his prose. It sounds like a lullaby and a poem got married in a storm cloud.
Images of him sheltering in your porch after getting caught in a rain shower pop into your mind. Beads of water are dislodged from his dark, tousled locks as you pull him across the threshold and bring your lips-
You force yourself back out of your head again, distinctly hoping that he doesn’t see day dreams as well as night ones.
“Thank you for clearing that up, I really tried to listen last night but I couldn’t remember everything.”
“You are welcome.”
“One final question: Do you do this often? You know, come to people who are struggling to sleep.”
“I do not.”
You don't know whether to feel special or even more afraid than before.
“I’m going to be honest with you, I’m not even sure if there’s anything you can do to help me. I know exactly why I get like this and what causes it. Emotional overload plus moving from one stage of sleep to another equals parasomnia.”
“No, this is something else entirely.”
His intense response makes your mouth turn dry.
"I acknowledge that moving between sleep stages can cause abnormal activity in the nervous system often resulting in symptoms like sleep paralysis or confusion upon waking. In all these cases, the bodies remain here in the waking world and the minds are roaming the Dreaming. You, however, do not present in the same way.”
You shiver and pull your duvet further up to warm your torso.
Morpheus continues speaking.
“I have observed you several times during the state you call parasomnia and each time, I was unable to see you clearly. You were faded, flickering. Straddling the line between your realm and my own.”
“Have you ever seen anything like it before?”
“I have not.”
“Oh,” you say, feeling disquieted by his revelation.
You can tell by his body language that there is more he wants to divulge.
“There have been incidences in the past where dreamers have become so over stimulated by their dreamscapes that they have created seismic disturbances in the Dreaming. These have always been low level, anomalous and no cause for concern. You have been creating regular and impactful disturbances, gaining magnitude with each occurrence.”
You shake your head, feeling foolish. “Here was me thinking that you were just here because I was having bad dreams.”
“I apologise for my subterfuge. You were in pain and that needed to be addressed first.”
Your chagrin fades a little. “I forgive you... I think.”
A moment of silence passes between you as you digest everything he has said.
“Do you know why all this is happening, with the earthquakes and me glitching in and out of your realm?”
“You have a very high sense of lucidity when you dream. I suspected it from the very first moment we spoke, when you instantly rationalised that I was part of a dream. This was confirmed when I used my sand. You knew you were dreaming and you could remember details from our prior conversation very clearly.”
“Is that the purpose you mentioned on the mountain?”
“And to prove to you that I was real. I knew this would not work if you believed me to be a hallucination.”
You nod. Morpheus begins to talk again.
“I believe that your lucidity is allowing your mind to simultaneously occupy two planes thus creating the tremors, fuelling the severity of your reaction to the nightmares and convincing you that they have followed you into the waking world.” 
“So what now, what do you need to see to prove your hypothesis?”
“Now I need to see you in a nightmare.”
You close your eyes. You should have seen this coming. All the parasomnia episodes had involved nightmares.
Morpheus sees your hesitation but you jump in before he has a chance to respond.
“Couldn’t it just be a really bad bout of nightmares? I’m not exactly in the best headspace right now and I’ve always had nightmares when I’m feeling like this. Maybe they’ll just go away with time?” 
“Your abilities may be exacerbated by your emotional state but it does not guarantee that the stabilisation of one will lead the stabilisation of the other. I cannot risk this escalating any further for the sake of my realm.”
He says your name when a scared frown squeezes your forehead.
“I do not wish to force you to do this. I could use the sand but I would much prefer your consent.”
You take a breath, mouth opening in readiness to reply.
The answer dies in your throat.
“Please, Y/N?”
You stare at his perfect face.
This was such a bad idea.
“I consent.”

It's funny how much interpretations can vary. I saw another post where someone felt Lewis was too soft on Thursday by showing us what happened and therefore making us know that how it played out wasn't quite as bad as what Morse was probably imagining.
Although I disagree with you re: Thursday, I sympathize with the mixed feelings. I think there's a few factors with Endeavour which will influence how you feel about it. There's people who will know Morse through the books, people who know him from Inspector Morse, and then fans like me who were introduced to him as the young man in Endeavour. Fans of each of these versions seem to have wanted different things, and I reckon the problem Lewis ran into was trying to make everybody happy.
Like me for instance, I honestly feel he would've been better off pretending Inspector Morse didn't exist because then he wouldn't have been limited to twisting the story towards it and could take Morse and the other characters in a more organic direction. Endeavour might be a prequel, but it was made in such a different era of television, and I think it's ok for it to do something new. However, fans of Inspector Morse hoping to see how he became his older self would be disappointed if he did that. While watching the series I read old reviews from when each season aired and was surprised by the number of people impatient for the Thursday plotline to end to make way for McNutt. Then you have someone like Shaun Evans who read the books but didn't see the show, and that's perhaps why his interpretation of Morse and his future was darker.
At the same time that openness of how the character can be perceived is part of the joy and does allow you to get more out of what the ending means.
I actually really liked what they did with Thursday and how they connected it to Big Pete because I felt it went along with the recurring theme throughout the series that no matter how much these characters want to do good, as policemen they are still part of a messed up system causing harm, and they're not immune to protecting their own over doing what's right for the public they serve. That includes Morse. The whole tragedy of Big Pete and Blenheim Vale is an indictment of the police and remains so.
My takeaway regarding the Morse/Thursday ending is that it wasn't so much about Thursday being a bad person and Morse regretting the relationship because of it, as it was him being confronted with the reality that he had put him on a pedestal. He needed to let go of his naivety. I don't agree with the above point that Lewis was too soft on Thursday, but I do find it interesting that there is a distinction between Morse's perspective and ours. We saw parts of Thursday he didn't and we saw parts of Morse which Thursday didn't. They never truly knew each other because of being suppressed 20th century British men, and maybe that's the real tragedy of Endeavour.
Nonetheless, Morse still credits him with being the best mentor and loves him enough to protect him and his family. I think that's why he ultimately feels he has to close himself up. Because getting too close to the Thursdays put him in a position where he had to compromise his principles and couldn't get justice for Jakes, Big Pete, and the others. THAT'S what really hurt him imo. I also feel like the connection to Inspector Morse can work in that IM is him opening himself back up and Lewis bringing back a side of him which had been missing. I like the idea of Morse being a character constantly learning and changing.
Sorry, I didn't mean for this to turn into a whole essay. lmao

And yeah, as you say you and I don't fully agree about the show (esp. Thursday) but I found your thoughts so interesting and I really enjoyed reading them! Thank you. :)
Also that's a darn good point about Shaun. I've only read a couple of the books and I've seen I think about 1/3 of Inspector Morse (I mean, I watched a bit when I was a kid (I was 9 when it first started) but never got into it fully until I'd seen Endeavour and am meaning to catch up on more v soon), and Thaw's Morse is definitely different from Dexter's original Morse. So... yeah, it makes sense that Shaun had a different trajectory from the one I'm more familiar with. :) (And, well, then you have Roger who likes to play as much drama and emotional intensity as possible, so... ;-) )
Morse constantly learning and changing: yes, definitely. I like that. :D

I totally "love" what GO RUSH has to serve recently, especially in 96
<ALERT>negative and long content of GO RUSH rant ahead
Ah yes, another Manabu episode that Manabu will probably serve as the stepping stone for yUnA's character. Usually there's a high probability that the used-loser will win against the former winer, which means Manabu is very likely to lose to yUnA just to make yUnA the GREAT and POWERFUL Yuga simp that everyone totally loves. Manabu? Nah, who cares? He has acted terribly TWICE so no one is gonna support him. yUnA? EVERYONE LOVES HER! People totally enjoy her tragic love for Yuga, along with her violent behavior, shouting nonstop, bad mouth, self-centered mind and so on. She already has at least 5 episodes just for her to develop nothing but her LOVE FOR YUGA, so why not make more? Not to mention yUnA never felt bad for beating Sky's ass, yelling at Dudi Nissaw, calling UTS a wrecked house, literally robbing Yuga's deck to beat Yudias and consider herself a strong duelist then the list keeps going on. No one wants examine her wrongdoing while Manabu is reviewed with hypercritical standard by everyone, really? Both the worst of Manabu's episode(58 and 67) could have been written as Manabu broke down and went mad because of the constant and overwhelming stress of Phaser's surveillance and Myuda's bullying. At least that's more understandable. But no, they decided that making Manabu be "what he is supposed to be " and had him doing shit stuff around is more funny. Now Manabu's character is completely destroyed and basically everyone outside MIK just look down on him.
And 96 is here, with yUnA determined to fight Manabu just to demonstrate her love for Yuga. Sound similar? because that's basically what happened in 54, where yUnA dueled Manabu and lost. I can already guess how the duel is going to be like and I can say that I am not looking forward to it. I know I usually just post art or reblog cool stuff but I am really MAD at how GO RUSH has been going recently, which affects my motivation for making fanarts. I have been watching the story that is non-plot-relevant(Velgearian disappearing) and only serves for SEVENS references for episodes, now they have decided to serve this ultimate recipe they can think of. Good, the SEVENS invasion has been going for 6 episodes. if this keeps going for nearly a whole arc, I will dump this show soon.

Books I Read In June
24. The Chosen and the Beautiful, by Nghi Vo

Really, I should have read this one last year when it was getting all the buzz – it actually really mostly lived up to it!
But then, I’m the weirdo who actually enjoyed The Great Gatsby in the first place. If you didn’t at least kind of enjoy all the references and narrative fuckery with the source text. It’s, well, it’s not quite fanfic imo (at least, no more than Ten Things I Hate About You is. Which I mean if you want to argue the point you’d probably win, but), and if you come into it blind you’re going to miss like a third of what’s going on.
The whole urban fantasy aesthetic doesn’t really add much beyond, like, aesthetics and vibes and making the incredibly obvious metaphor wholly and completely literal re: Gatsby’s selling his soul. But, like, the book has so much fun with all the magical ‘20s decadence and literally occulted speakeasies and gay bars and similar.
25. Capital Without Borders, by Brooke Harrington

On a fundamental level the basic conceit of ‘anthropologist spends years learning the customs and folkways of a privacy obsessed community who feel reviled by the wider world – the private wealth managers of the ultrawealthy’ is just, like, incredibly funny to me.
But despite being incredibly dry and very, like, academic, this was actually shockingly readable. Actually pretty interesting, too.
I mean, in a ‘filled with despair and loathing’ sort of way, but still. Interesting sort of dialectic where the officials who actually serve the various world powers’ state apparatuses absolutely loathe the whole deal with tax havens and matryoshka dolls of trusts and charitable foundations and everything else, but despite ostensibly having basically unlimited coercive force at their fingertips they’re more or less helpless to do anything about it. Always fascinating to get a look at the people who the world works on behalf of.
And I admit I sort of have an aesthetic fascination with the sort of elite professional who ends up being a de facto social worker and relationship councilor for the much MORE elite family they work for.
26. Plague Birds, by Jason Sanford

I…thought this was a Hugo nominee? But apparently not? So, okay, zero idea how I ended up reading it.
Possibly my new top contender for ‘non-visual media which are still, spiritually, anime”. You know, post-post-apocalyptic setting of scattered villages watched over by benign village Ais and clans of dangerous hunters in the wilderness and wandering superpowered paladins who wear red leather and have bright red hair who are bonded to a super-powerful AI in their blood, and also the only character who isn’t at least kind of a furry is the apparently 16-year-old girl whose actually a myriad old alien spy.
Anyway! Decent romp, but honestly kind of fell apart in the third act, imo. Spent too long luxuriating in the (honestly very fun) worldbuilding, so all the actual plot and revelations had to be crammed together without having nay space to breath or feel natural.
Also the protagonist turns out to be, like, the most special child to ever exist Chosen-One-but-sci-fi, which I just generally despise.
Kinda a bit less than the sum of its parts, imo.
27. Across the Green Grass Fields, by Seanan Mcguire

This was fun! Not really much more than fun, but still – pleasantly tropey read, in a self-consciously fairytale-like sort of way.
I’m informed that it’s part of some wider setting/universe, but honestly you really couldn’t tell reading it.
Kind of amused at the apparent coincidence that this came out at (IIRC) basically the same time as a children’s tv show called Centaurworld, which I know absolutely nothing about except a friend stole the surprisingly terrifying villain to use in D&D.
Anyway, like, 3/5? The last thing I read by the author was Middlegame, and this is just honestly a pretty big let down by comparison. Doesn’t help that the general vibe kept me mentally comparing it with The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In A Ship Of Her Own Making, either (not a flattering comparison for it).
28. A Master of Djinn, by P. Djèlí Clark

Hugo novel nominee number 4!
As a fan of pulpy weird alternate 20th centuries, this really was catnip to me. Buddy cop antics in a Djinn-haunted steampunk Cairo at the turn of the 20th century! A heroine who insists on wearing perfectly tailored English suits at all times despite living in early 20th century Cairo! A climax involving a giant robot and an evil wizard trying to restore the British Empire!
The vibes were sublime.
Beyond the amazing aesthetics there isn’t much to write home about, honestly – the setting is largely set dressing over a fairly conventional plot. Fun set dressing! The bit where the Brits and Americans are basically losing at imperialism because they went hard on the whole witch hunting things while everyone else went digging for local spirits to try allying with doesn’t necessarily make much sense, but is very funny to me.
29. Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir

So I think I mentioned but – I did not know this was by the The Martian guy until I started reading it, but oh my fuck can you tell.
The tone is very..specific. I found it pretty grating, honestly, but not nearly enough to outweigh all the things the book has going for it.
So, it’s hard sci fi. Like, ‘extended asides to explain the scientific processes and technological breakthroughs as they happen for the education of the reader, most of the acknowledgements section is thanking different scientists for their help making it accurate’ hard sci fi. Honestly it’s to the books credit that the writing is just kind of twee and self satisfied, and not soul-witheringly dry.
The decision to have the protagonist wake up with amnesia and then slowly fill out the backstory as he makes do on the spaceship orbiting Tau Ceti he woke up from a medically induced coma in next to two dead crew mates was frankly an incredibly good decision, because the earth chapters are a) clearly just an excuse/justification to get him to Tau Ceti and b) just incredibly boring.
But, like, I really cannot overemphasize how much I just adore first contact scenarios where both parties are awkwardly trying to understand each other and work out some sort of mutually intelligible way to get information across and solve some desperate problem together. The aliens were so lovingly amazingly weird, too – both the astrophage and whatever Rocky’s species are called.
I literally read it travelling halfway across the continent, so can confirm that it’s a great airport read.
If Hollywood isn’t a bunch of cowards they’ll spend $100 million to make this one a movie too.
30. The Past Is Red, by Catherynne Valente

Hugo novella nominee number 4! Getting close!
Valente’s pretty easily one of my favorite writers currently working, and this did absolutely nothing to change my mind about that. I mean, a bit heavy handed – the setting is quite literally the city-sized island of trash floating above the waves after the seas have risen and drowned the entire world – but still, it’s the sort of ever so slightly surreal magical realism I’m really very fond of.
The prose was just relentlessly sharp and occasionally mean spirited and really consistently great, imo. For whatever reason ‘hope that’s just greed, going by it’s maiden name’ has gotten thoroughly stuck in my head.
Tetley as a protagonist is just generally amazing and wonderfully tragic and interestingly broken, really.
Anyway, haven’t read Elder Race of A Spindle Splintered yet but really solidly my favorite of the hugo novellas I’ve read so far.

Oooh, this one's kinda fun!
In short? Inhuman. Jane probably has the most ridiculous pain tolerance known to man.
Apart from the "half-human-half-god except the god part is a whole lot stronger", she was also raised by the Goddess of Time, who tried to make her into a perfect warrior for almost 20 years. She's done almost nothing but train her entire life (she never ate or slept before coming to the Mortal Plane because that's just not a Thing in the Garden). She is, in short, the most perfect soldier ever created.
(Highly specific reference, but you know how in Once Upon A Time (In Space), King Cole specifically built the Rose Reds to feel pain and fear so that they could become better soldiers by overcoming them? Yeah, like that.)
Jane is built to be Theo But Better. She is literally made from a copy or echo of her soul. And towards the end of her life, Theo was in constant pain due to excessive healing and she still kept fighting and acting mostly normally. (I'll post a snippet about that when I write it, I haven't gotten there yet.)
The Goddess of Time also fucked around when she made the souls the Theo clones (Jane is the only one who was stable enough to survive because she basically malfunctioned) by giving them self-regenerating souls. This means that Jane's soul self-replenishes instead of withering away like her sisters', which can cause her to overload when she doesn't use magic for a while. Basically: it's like a closed container to which you constantly add air, with no holes for it to escape through. At some point, the container is gonna explode under all the air pressure. And that's what her body is like.
The only moments she gets overwhelmed by pain are when her soul gets too full, and it causes her to get extremely aggressive, more as a reflex because the only way she learned to use magic was through violence and magic can decrease the "volume" of your soul.

Ooooh boy. The wheel has served me well.
For this one, you need context on Reiner and Allana, the two people who make up the whole that is Flick. They got soul-fused and it's weird.
Allana is a daughter of the Goddess of Love born during the 20-year cease-fire. And during this cease-fire, Edward Fallin, Master of the Order (Theo's brother? remember him?), is sending his men to kill any demigoddess he can find so the war doesn't re-start.
Well, the first one he manages to kill, two decades into the cease-fire, is Allana (the demigoddesses are slippery, ok?). The Goddess of Love is kinda bummed out about this. She's not mourning like the Goddess of Time mourned for Theo, but she thinks it would be funny if she did. So, for pure entertainment, she decides to get revenge on her sister's pet human (Edward) by cursing one of his children. Because it is a known fact to anyone with eyes that Ed loves his kids more than anything in the world and he's preventing the war mostly because he wants them to live in a time of peace.
Stay with me.
His youngest son is named Reiner (hey look, he finally showed up!) and she decides to fuse the remains of Allana's soul with his, binding them together with a curse. This results in some identity issues, body dysphoria, and general confusion. But that's not all!
The curse binding their souls together is a love curse, meaning that anyone, if exposed to Reiner for too long, will fall in love with him (we're going with the name Reiner for now because they only pick "Flick" a while later). Sometimes this love is platonic and sometimes romantic, but it's extremely intense and always borders on obsession.
"But, Muffin," you ask. "What does this curse have to do with Edward? Wasn't this a revenge against him?"
Yes, and I think you can probably see where this is going.
This curse extends to Reiner's father, Edward. He's the main target actually. There's a whole lengthy analysis about this situation, but basically: the effect of the curse is the most horrible, disgusting twist of a parent's love for their child.
And Reiner knows his father is affected by it, despite him never actually doing anything. He can recognize the look in his eyes and the emotion in his voice because he's seen and heard it so many times before. The curse can't be turned off, it's divine magic. And knowing that even his father, whom he loves dearly and who has taken care of him his whole life, is also a victim of the curse's influence is what makes him run away and try to rip his own soul apart, in the hopes that the curse will be ripped from him as well. And that's where we meet him at the start of book 2.
So, uh... that one felt a bit dark...

Reasons Why the Rhaenys-Alicent scene of S1E9 was Stupid

This is not against Eve Best or Olivia Cooke. In the article above, the latter is explaining how she sees Alicent and what she's interpreting.This is about how weak, how bad the overall writing and (here) Alicent/Rhaenys' characterization is. Because that’s the fault of the HotD creators.
Explanation
Watching the episode, I believed that the writers meant for Rhaenys to feel Alicent out for how far she would really go for power when she said, “And yet you toil still in service to men. Your father, your husband, your son. You desire not to be free, but to make a window in the wall of your prison. Have you never imagined yourself... on the Iron Throne?”
But these are reasons why, if Rhaenys wasn’t just mocking Alicent because she felt like it and was angry at her imprisonment, her words to her is a minimization of her intellect the writers made:
Rhaenys should have never been in King’s Landing anyway. Why is she still there after Rhaenyra and Daemon and all their kids left, including Baela and Rhaena, the only ones she showed herself actively looking out for? The girls would want to say their goodbyes, or just see Rhaenys. Thus, Rhaenys would know the blacks were leaving and would have left with them. She has no reason to stay if she did know the Daemona nd Rhaenyra were leaving?!
We’ve already have seen Alicent submit again and again herself to the irrational or self-serving men around her. We have no real expectation she would want the throne, as Olivia Cooke says. So what kind of tension did they want to create here? She has decided to seat Aegon despite neither liking him (liking and loving a person can be different) and thinking him unfit for kingship--just because she thinks that Viserys finally wanted him as king. Yet she's been fighting against Rhaenyra to not inherit because of how she acts against convention and the “good” rules, right? Or is she just mad at her for not recognizing how her actions make Alicent look pathetic for submitting herself all her life? Probably the latter, since she has forgiven Rhaenyra after an aPoLoGy, which comes right after Viserys demands that the factions get along and reveals his rotting face. As if everyone didn’t already know he was rotting. And she submits to Larys’ demands for feet-looksies as if she doesn’t have the means of threatening him as the ruling Queen Dowager then. Alicent says to Rhaenys, “We do not rule but we may guide the men that do. Gently, away from violence and sure destruction and instead toward peace.”
And as Cooke points out, she’s a Hightower with no claim at all to the throne and mother to the past king’s living male children. If Alicent were to try being Queen Regnant all for herself, she’d be seen as stealing her kids’ rights and receive immediate military backlash form most of the lords.   No, no one would accept Otto as their king and even Targaryen illegitimate offspring would have more of a claim. A Queen Consort whose mother was a princess might use that as a claim, but not a woman from a house that in no way, ever could claim kinship to the royal house could never hope to try for the throne without EVERY single house shouting usurper. There’s boldness, and then there’s stupidity. And this is case where there is no ambivalence.
If Rhaenys was made to kill a bunch of smallfolk, and we know later that Alicent brings Meleys' head to display throughout many streets of KL to those small folk, would that not twist the story into a sense that Rhaenys' death was deserved? That Alicent's actions and the greens are heroic and altruistic, caring for the smallfolk? Funny, because right after Alicent does this, the smallfolk immediately try to leave KL in droves! Kinda negates the whole "wisdom" that we're supposed to believe in Alicent, huh?
*EDIT* 8/29/23 -- We're told that Rhaenys is this intelligent "feminist" woman but she, like Alicent, often engages in actions and events merely because her husband wants it: marrying off 12-yr Laena off to a 30+ old man; Baela being made a ward of Driftmark instead of the heir (this is about Hotd's worldbuilding, not the actual logic of medievalist politics or the canon/original world; etc. Yes, the writing is telling us she is criticizing Alicent for buying in or complying with the patriarchal desires of the men around her, but HotDRhaneys does the same so the show really vacuums out any nuance Rhaenys can have by giving us clashing messages about her. Why does Rhaenys not even vocally protest and we are expected to see her as "strong"? *END OF EDIT*
...And why would Rhaenys even bother, when she knows the deal?! 
It’s all so shallow and hollow, while taking away the intellect, emotional layers, and drive for self gain of its characters.
Written Down Dialogue of Scene (I welcome corrections)
A: I came here to ask your support.
R: Well, I must credit you for your boldness.
A: House Velaryon has long allied itself with the Princess Rhaenyra and what has it gained you? Your daughter dead... alone in Pentos. Your son cuckolded. Rhaenyra's heirs are none of yours. It is your husband who grasps so heedlessly for the throne. And even he has abandoned you: gone these six long years to fight a desperate battle, returning grievously, if not mortally, wounded, leaving the Lady of Driftmark to chart her course alone.
R: The word of my house is not fickle.
A: No. But, dear cousin... you more than any soul alive understand what I say now. Princess Rhaenys, I loved my husband, but I will speak the truth we both know. You should've been queen.
R: I little thought to hear those words from you.
A: The Iron Throne was yours by blood and by temperament. Viserys would've lived his days a country lord, content to hunt and study his histories, but... here we are. We do not rule but we may guide the men that do. Gently... away from violence and sure destruction and instead toward peace.
R: Is it in the name of peace that you've imprisoned me? And what of my dragon?
A: If we are overmatched, Rhaenyra will be tempted to strike us, and war will ensue. Without your dragon, she may be persuaded to negotiate. If it's Driftmark you want, you shall have it for you and your granddaughters to pass on as you see fit.
R: You are wiser than I believed you to be... Alicent Hightower. A true queen counts the cost to her people. And yet you toil still in service to men. Your father, your husband, your son. You desire not to be free, but to make a window in the wall of your prison. Have you never imagined yourself... on the Iron Throne?

I’m a Jimin + Jikook focused blog and I’ve been a bit critical of Golden on here, so I wanted to have my personal opinions on Jungkook, Golden, HYBE and Jikook promotions documented and clarified a little bit for my own peace of mind. I’m going to attach a VERY long ramble clarifying two points someone asked me about because I think it summarizes some of my overall feelings.

By saying JK had more creative constraints, I hope that anyone who has read my posts understands I simply mean I assume HYBE is only going to heavily invest in projects that (they think) have major GP appeal or align with their own special interests. I also think Seven level promotions might be limited to HYBE America. I think JK was simply limited in that if he specifically wanted the Seven rollout he would have likely been locked into a project like Golden. Corporations are always going to be extremely self serving but I do think JKs interests happened to align with HYBE in this instance, so it was beneficial for both parties.
JK loves and excels at mainstream pop so it’s not surprising he would like to have a solo career modeled after pop boys like Bieber. It was a harmonious collaboration. I don’t think he majorly sacrificed his artistic integrity or did anything he didn’t want to do when it was clearly music that he liked and a sound I think most of us weren’t surprised to hear considering his known music tastes. Golden probably also wasn’t supposed to be his magnum opus when it seems like it came about partially because he was in a creative block and had a time limit because of enlistment.
I still think HYBE and SB’s involvement + some of the promotions and “media-play” around Golden were heavy handed and occasionally pretty excessive (although I don’t agree with anyone who uses JKs promotions to try and invalidate his success). But I’ve already talked about how I think they were using it to try and boost their A&R system + HYBE America in general. I think they’re personally invested in JKs success more than they are the other members because they have more to gain from it — and it shows. And I do think it’s funny that JK said a few things almost verbatim to BangPD (and could explain why I found some of them a bit awkward/off-putting) because they were probably directly pitched to him by them.
But I don’t think it went against JKs desires or that he was strong armed into doing something he didn’t want to do. Like I said above, this is the kind of music JK enjoys, producers he was probably interested in, artists he was emulating that he likely admired, a career trajectory and image he resonated with and wanted to take etc. Even if the idea and direction of the project didn’t originate from him (I assume), it was clearly how he wished to express himself and be seen as a soloist. It was also an opportunity to put out an album when he was stuck (and no, I don’t think HYBE was purposefully targeting or sabotaging other members, even if I 100% stand by they should have done better and absolutely deserve criticism for various things around all the solo releases. I also remain a HYBE America anti (said half seriously lol) who dislikes the idea of them only going all out for these specific projects and the ramifications that could have on future BTS music, especially when I dislike SB’s A&R work so far).
So when I talked about Jimin possibly not wanting to sacrifice any creative control for playlisting or better promo, I simply meant that -
a. Once again, my current assumption (that could be wrong!) is that HYBE is only going to go all out for projects that specifically align with their own interests and/or have a sound they think has big commercial potential, therefore limiting the members creative freedom if they want that kind of rollout. I also think it might potentially be limited to HYBE US projects. I don’t think FACE met most of that criteria (and I don’t think JM would have wanted to promote FACE that way regardless). So no, I don’t think JM wanted to sacrifice his vision for FACE to get that level of promotion even if it was an option.
b. FACE was clearly a personal project for JM. He had a very clear story he wanted to tell and very clear emotions he wanted to convey. I think the process was possibly more important to him than the outcome, especially when you consider he was about to release it as a free mixtape. I think creative freedom and self expression were his main priorities vs modifying his album to be more commercial to justify a bigger marketing push. Especially when it looks like he was given the same base level support as the non-JK members and didn't seem overly invested in promoting or results in general.
That said, I don’t personally think JM is against albums or rollouts like Golden. He obviously enjoys a lot of mainstream pop and I wouldn’t be surprised if he released a HYBE US project one day in the future too. If he doesn’t I’m going to assume it’s because he’s not interested, not that he’s barred from doing so (of course we’re going to have to wait to see how future solo releases are handled to really know anything, but that might take a few years). But FACE was an “unambitious” project by Jimin’s own admission, so I’m curious to see how he decides to shape the rest of his solo career and what it’ll look like when he releases something he deems “ambitious”. I think it’ll be more fair to weigh the promotions of something like that vs Golden as well. That said, I do 100% give JM massive kudos for putting out an album like FACE. I absolutely think he deserves heaps of praise for it and I could go on about my love and admiration for FACE nonstop.
And I’m still pretty critical of the process of Golden and I stand by that. But that just aligns with my own personal preferences and my relationship with music that has existed long before I got into BTS. Admittedly, I’m also just not a big fan of mainstream pop so JKs solo career might end up just not being for me, and that’s okay. But I still really liked several of the songs on Golden and I respect how much work, charisma, and emotion JK poured into his album. His vocals were beautiful and I think he’s heads and tails above any other western pop boy right now and could easily take off even further with the right direction. I’m genuinely excited to see where he goes. I also recognize JK is a proficient lyricist and producer already, so I’m not knocking him as an artist even if I don’t vibe with one of his projects (although I sincerely hope he doesn’t use the same process for JJK2)
Sort of an unrelated tangent, but the criticism for Golden and JK as an artist gets unfairly overblown and knocking it at this point feels a bit tiring and redundant, so I get it. Especially when antis will jump on and exaggerate any criticism from a fan to unfairly drag him. The level of hypocrisy from other kpop stans is also really annoying. It’s crazy to watch them criticize HYBE and JK and then hype up their faves who are also releasing full English albums. Or how they act like other kpop companies are artistic paragons righteously holding onto their roots even though they’ve ALL been aggressively pursuing the Western market for years now. The hatred BTS members face from other kpop stans, akgaes, western stans, and even institutions like billboard is so immense that I can understand why so many ARMYs are defensive and adverse to certain criticisms and discourse that antis will often use to fuel their talking points. It’s impossible to have critical discussions in good faith on most platforms these days and prioritizing protecting your artist from getting unfairly attacked does imo understandably take priority for most.
Not saying that fans shouldn’t express critical opinions but I understand why you’re not going to see many ARMYs admitting to not liking a song on Twitter, or thinking the number of remixes is excessive, when you have thousands of nasty antis stalking and screenshotting those ARMY opinions to drag BTS members and get hit tweets. Pretty sure that’s why you see most nuanced/critical discussions taking place in private group chats, less populated platforms like Tumblr, or even in person rather than on places like Twitter.
But it’s also sometimes frustrating that it’s so hard to have open discussions about all this without people mobbing you and accusing you of being an anti. Imagine a world where people could acknowledge that JK had certain advantages that helped him on the charts and how that doesn’t invalidate his success. But with the current stan climate I doubt that’s going to happen anytime soon. It doesn’t really matter at the end of the day when it doesn’t change anything, but I’ll admit that the straight up lying and gaslighting from some ARMYs still really frustrates me sometimes. And I do think it’s a contributing factor to the deterioration of the fandom.
ANYWAYS, I got off topic, but my original point I wanted to clarify was just my assumption that the criteria for Seven level marketing would have conflicted with JMs vision and desires for FACE, but not for JK and Golden. And I wanted to expand a bit on my thoughts about JKs career path as I’ve been really critical of it when I don’t have any negative feelings towards him nor do I think he’s some kind of sellout or company puppet for going in that direction. I also don't think there's anything wrong with the promotions he used, or wanting to go in a pop route. It's genuinely cool to see him seamlessly pull off an album like Golden and I have no issue with "taking the k out of kpop" in a general sense, as long as it doesn't impact the quality of music or limit their creative freedom. JK shouldn't be forced to stay in a kpop box if he wants to branch out and I think what he's doing is genuinely really cool in that sense.
And going back to promotions, if I haven’t already made this clear, just because I think this might be the way some things work at HYBE doesn’t mean I agree with it or like it either. Maybe all of JM’s budget limitations were self-imposed and HYBE offered him as much funding as he wanted, but I still think HYBE should have had a higher baseline of support for all of their rollouts, should absolutely be giving the members of the biggest group in the world better playlisting, shouldn’t have neglected JM’s RIAA certification, should have at least sent all of their songs to radio, should have reacted in some way to those sales being deleted, should have updated D2C earlier than Haegeum, should be raked over the coals for some of those weverse articles etc. That said, I recognize that’s just my uniformed and probably pretty biased opinion. I’m definitely not an industry expert nor have I paid all that much attention to any of this until recently. But I stand by it for now lol.
And regarding HYBE US, I just want to make sure to state again that JK didn’t need them, they needed him. But I just sincerely hope they don’t keep pushing this whole system so hard onto the BTS members that they feel obligated to use it if they want top promotional tools, or that they think it’s the only way to top the charts again. The possibility that HYBE thinks that only HYBE America projects deserve top level promotions is a really concerning thought to me, but we'll have to wait and see.
Anyways, I hope that all makes sense? And I do think most of this is probably pretty obvious to most people, but I still wanted to clarify because I see some takes that sound similar to mine but are actually pretty different and I don’t want to be lumped in there lol. And mainly I just wanted my feelings documented somewhere on my blog because it made me feel bad to think someone might lump me in with some of the JK antis who have been overly critical of Golden and the whole promotional process.
Also, just because I criticize HYBE a lot doesn’t mean I think they're worse than the other kpop companies (they seem like the best by far imo), just because I think SB is clearly using JK’s debut for his own gain doesn’t mean I think JK is a hapless victim or that there's anything sinister about Golden or that he's not also getting what he wants out of the situation, and just because I think BangPD seems arrogant and out of touch doesn’t mean I think he’s the devil or an idiot or that I know better than him.
Lol, anyways, this whole post was very self indulgent, shocked if anyone actually reads this to the end (thank you if you do!), but these are basically my thoughts on all of this! It’s been messy being JM biased and an ARMY as well as any form of Jikook biased/bond enjoyer so I’ve been trying to approach all this with a lot of thought. But as always I could totally be wrong and I try to keep an open mind about all of this and listen to as many opinions as possible.

What DnD Class would the Members of the Scooby Gang fall Into
A follow up to my last post This ended up being so much longer than I initially anticipated lol
Fred Jones: Artificer An extremely underrated class in my opinion. Also, not the one that I think most people think of for a leader. But also, all of his traps. All of his ingenuity working with only the things he has around him to catch the bad guy. I don't really know anything about any of the artificer subclasses besides Battle Smith, which looking at a brief overview of the other options is probably the one I'd give him. He's always more likely to build a trap then just confront and fight the bad guy. Leading into how though Battle Smith is good in a fight, it also can be played as a heavily defensive character. Armorer is just a tad too defensive for Fred as far as I'm concerned. He needs to also have that little confrontational, not totally support edge. Being able to play into both defense and offense is also great for a leader. Plus, he fucking loves his car, like one might love their steel defender that can look like anything the artificer chooses (to be blunt, the mystery machine is a built-in steel defender, right there)
Daphne Blake: Multiclass in Monk and Rogue* For monk, it's canon that Daphne knows martial arts and is decent in a physical confrontation. Not to mention I swear she's used an improvised weapon before, which just screams monk. If my memory serves, she's level-headed and always prepared (even if that preparedness fails a lot of the time. That being said, being prepared and actually on top of using those things are very different. Take it from someone who learned that the moderately hard way (no one died, only one person got kidnapped, everything could've gone a lot worse. So, I count the years of learning as a net positive :))). I will die on the hill that she somehow stole Mary Poppins' bag, a Bag of Holding no doubt. Speaking of stealing, she evidentially multiclassed as a rogue. Again, just her general preparedness. In addition to her being well connected. She sure as shit has the noble background. And what are rich nobles? Corrupt as fuck! It might all just be white collar crimes that they can bribe their way out of, but it's still crime <3**. What else is crime? Anything a rogue is involved in. She's not the most conventional rogue, but she is charming and can be quite good at a makeover or a little deceit***. She could be a bard in this sense, but she lacks the camp to truly fit, in my opinion. She's just not hamming it up enough. Also, not the most musical. I'm sure she's been shown to play, but she gives me 'only learned an instrument because her parents/school told her to'. Therefore, rogue. Apparently, I have a lot more thoughts about Daphne than Fred lol. Funny when you consider the types of characters I like to/end up playing...i.e. himbos. Or himbo adjacent. Regardless, this isn't about that, this is about what subclasses Daphne would take. For Monk, Way of the Open Hand. It's classic and simple, but it feels fitting as the others seem too flashy or too secretive. Daphne, for a rogue multiclass, feels very straightforward. She's not going to dance around you and use a lot of deception in a fight. If you go head on with her it'll be face to face. On the rogue side, the assassin subclass. Again, it's not so flashy like the swashbuckler or so secretive like the phantom, it's a very straightforward and no-nonsense subclass. It gets the job done. And Daphne doesn't really fuck around if I remember right. Her head may be a bit in the clouds, but once she puts so focus in... (I'm second guessing all of this. But that might just be the caffeine)
Velma Dinkley: Wizard If you thought I was going to say anything else, no. I love her, don't get me wrong. But she's a squishy little nerd, better suited for the research and behind the scenes kind of stuff. This feels just so self-explanatory that I don't know what else to say. As for her subclass, the School of Divination seems to fit perfectly with how she sums up each episode and each mystery with a play-by-play of everything. Her reasoning is always spot on. Again, it's very simple, but the role seems to have been made perfectly for her.
Norville "Shaggy" Rogers****: Barbarian Hear me out, he's mostly a coward who runs away. But he has his moments of bravery that remind me of the temporary rages that barbarians can go into. He's an odd barbarian, sure, but think of Gorgug from Dimension 20. He too was a very non-barbarian character playing a barbarian. Shaggy could never maintain his bravery and confidence, but he doesn't need to. As long as he becomes that way when it's needed most, he's golden. Whether a bribe was involved or not. Subclass-wise, one might think Path of the Beast or Path of the Totem Warrior because of Scooby, But no. We'll get to Scooby later. Shaggy, to go with his unpredictability when he actually illustrates some presence of a spine, he gives me Path of Wild Magic vibes. One truly doesn't know what will happen or when his courage will fail him.
Scoobert Doobert: Druid It's just there, in front of our faces, a druid who's always in beast form. As well as he has a protective streak. I don't think that's specific to druids, but it doesn't contribute to him playing a class that, at least the way I've played it***** and seen it played, leans away from fighting and towards support. Am I just stereotyping him cause he's a literal talking dog? Yes. His subclass is Circle of the Shepard. It's also a subclass that leans heavily into being support, but not a healer. Scooby has also been seen in some episodes calling upon new friends and allies to fuck up the bad guy. Not to mention but he can rely on fucking Scrappy Doo if he needs to (that little punk is just a straight Fighter and I don't take constructive criticism). His relationship with Scrappy Doo also leans into his protective streak, where while he can rely on Scrappy, he won't out of the urge to protect his nephew. Like a herd dog. This is such loose reasoning, regardless it is what it is.
*I'm up in the air about which one she started as, though honestly leaning towards rogue **This whole tangent makes me feel the same way I did when I read a review of 'Before the Devil Breaks You' by Libba Bray and the reviewer wrote something to the tune of: I didn't expect the series to get so political. The author didn't need to shoehorn in her beliefs. As if it's not a well-researched historical fiction book that dealt with eugenics and abuse and anarchy from the first book...but I also probably shouldn't judge as this reviewer and I were evidentially reading the series with two different perspectives and focuses. Politics doesn't need to be in everything, but it certainly is in, what I'd argue as, the majority of things whether we like it or not ***Honestly, all the girly girl stereotypes in media definitely give at least rogue multiclass. I only partially can decern why ****My beloved *****Please understand I've only ever played it once...in a pathfinder campaign...two sessions of a pathfinder campaign...I am about as far as an expert on the class as one can be while still having played it. So, take everything I say with a grain of salt. Pathfinder druids have a lot of healing and support abilities, that's what I know Oh, and the main villain of a campaign I dm'd was a knock off Circle of Spores Druid (I didn't have access to that content on dndbeyond and was in a time rush or something because I didn't just make him like I do every other character i.e. not on dndbeyond. I just use the site as reference)
