I had a much more elaborate post planned but oh god everything about Jaskier in Season 3 is so hysterical right now??
I've known that they were probably confirming his bisexuality for over a year - ever since the audition tapes for a "male royal who flirts with Jaskier" were leaked. The fact that it's a whole romance is excellent, but the theory that Jaskier's chemistry with Geralt (and Yennefer as well honestly) led the showrunners to make this change has me absolutely howling.
Oh, you want Jaskier to have a complicated relationship with a man who has long [blond] hair and he writes a sad love song about him? You want him to have an on-off relationship with a beautiful woman? We've got you! (◠‿・)—☆
I will always have a soft spot for Jaskier and Geralt especially. But as fun as it is to speculate in fanon, ultimately I knew it wasn't happening. I think the very best we can hope for in that direction is an acknowledgement of one-sided feelings, and to me, having Jaskier acknowledged as queer or bi - that he "doesn't see gender" - is way beyond my wildest dreams already.
I really want to know more about Radovid and Vespula! Will Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri ever find out that their bard has caught feelings?? Will Jaskier ever have to choose his family over his newfound love? They've drastically changed Radovid for the show - what implications will that have??
(Basically can it be June 29th already???)

Fandom stuff - update
The Witcher Season 3: So, this will be the last season of Witcher I watch, for many reasons. However, I have not watched vol 2 yet, though will get too it soon. I loved vol 1!
Gwen & Art Are Not In Love: Okay, I finally read this book - bought it to read on holiday and got through it so quickly. It was AMAZING and I highly recommend. I get why I was seeing so much about it now!
Red, White & Royal Blue: I had NO IDEA what this was, but I watched the movie trailer anyway and it seemed fun. I have now finished the book (read it in one day) and it made me laugh and cry, so I will definitely be watching the movie and talking about it.
Heartstopper: SEASON 2 IS COMING ON AUGUST 3RD BABY!!!!!!!!!! It will be binged immediately. I am not sorry for who I will be when it's out.
AMC IWTV Season 2: That trailer did the impossible - it made me love Armand. I am SOLD. And I cannot wait!
Six of Crows: I finally finished the first book, and will be making my way onto Crooked Kingdom asap. These books are PHENOMONAL and I hope Netflix continue the show.
Good Omens 2: I mean...look at my blog. Look at my name. Yes I will be watching it later today (it's 2:18am here). Yes there will be spoilers. I will have a seperate post for it. I AM VERY EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cavill is not a martyr
I have been seeing so many posts and comments along the lines of “Henry Cavill left the Witcher because they were inaccurate to the books and he had enough of all the changes”
And this thought process, especially if you mention the recent DeMayo writer’s interview, is just a flawed thought process.
Just a quick blurb on DeMayo, as I said here his comments are probably a cry for attention from a fanbase he knows how to rile up and I would take what he says with a grain of truth salt. And Cavill has already filmed season 3 and I can assure you that a random writer he probably has already met making these comments didn’t send Cavill over the edge and have him march into the office an rage quit. Recasting and deciding on a new actor and getting out of contract is a lengthy process that has likely been going on for months. If anything it’s more likely DeMayo knew about Cavill leaving and then made his comments than the other way around.
So Henry Cavill announced he was leaving the Witcher just a few days after announcing he was returning to Superman.
In fact, he was quoted as saying this about his recent cameo as Superman in the new Black Adam movie:
"It was a very powerful moment for me. I wasn't sure how I would feel… whether it would be something very emotionally connective because I put the Man of Steel suit back on," Cavill said. "I chose that one in particular because of the nostalgia attached to the suit. It was important for me to be standing there and enjoying that moment. That is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again."
"The character means so much to me. It's been five years now. I never gave up hope," Cavill said of the half-decade he spent waiting for news about playing Superman again. "It's amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I'm so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman."
And that 5 year mark is important. Because it is no coincidence that on September in 2018 it was reported that Cavill will no longer be playing Superman in the DCEU just days after it was announced he would be taking on the role of Geralt in The Witcher.
In fact, it was stated:
the Witcher commitment came after the Warners impasse, suggesting a change in the studio’s strategy.
Meaning he signed onto the Witcher because he stopped being Superman. So what we are seeing right now with Cavill announcing he is returning as Superman and then announcing he is leaving The Witcher is an exact reverse of the situation in 2018.
Cavill loves playing Superman and not only is it a project he is passionate about, but he also nets in a massive paycheck.
Even back in 2018 when Cavill left the role of Superman there was talk that he left because of contract disputes:
Cavill's original contract was for four movies, so a contract extension would naturally need to be arranged before Warner Bros. could move ahead with another standalone Superman movie. According to Revenge of the Fans, Cavill's team wanted to leverage a better deal out of the contract extension - including more movies, more money, and possibly even a producer role. From Warner Bros.' perspective, however, there isn't exactly a burning need to get another Superman movie made.
Then in August of 2022 reports began to come out from comi-con that Henry Cavill was looking to return to the role of Superman but wanted more money for the role.
And considering Cavill was paid a truly insane amount for 2013′s Man of Steel -- an estimated $14 million and a $20 million for 2017′s Justice League I have to wonder what wildly high amount he will be paid to return as Superman now in 2022 when he is a bigger star than ever before.
And his Witcher paycheck does not compare to that Superman money -- with him making 500k an episode in season 1 and $1 million an episode in season 2. Even if he was just making as much money as Justice League, and he is likely making much more to return, that is still well over double the amount of money to play Superman vs playing Geralt.
And at the end of the day, The Witcher is a show with very specific scheduling requirements and set locations. Blood Origin and Season 2 lost actors because of the scheduling conflicts. And that is not at all unusual for the industry.
And for set locations The Witcher is mostly filmed in Mafan Film Studio in Hungary as well as various locations around the country as well as Arborfield Film Studios in the UK and other locations there such as North Yorkshire & The Lake District. And with fewer COVID restrictions the production team is likely to want to go around Europe again for S4 and S5.
Meanwhile it’s hard to know where the new DCEU movies will be filmed but Man of Steel was filmed around Vancouver, British Columbia and Illinois in the US. Justice League was filmed around Scotland and London. Black Adam was filmed in Atlanta Georgia in the US.
All this to say filming DCEU movies and The Witcher are two very time intensive processes that require film locations that could be on opposite sides of the world. And in addition Cavill is starring in the new Highlander Reboot and in the Enola Holmes movies. Being a TV actor takes a lot of time for not as much money and acclaim. Cavill is seemingly going back to just being a film actor instead of a tv actor which considering his busy schedule makes a lot of sense.
So it’s pretty clear why he would leave The Witcher to return to Superman and his other films roles:
1) Far higher paycheck to play Superman
2) He loves both the characters but Superman is very meaningful for his career and he has stated he has always wanted to return to the role
3) Scheduling conflicts and very different filming locations and the prestige of film vs tv
Trying to spread the narrative of “Cavill is a martyr in the battle against the inaccuracies of the tv show” is based on nothing but your own confirmation bias. And it honestly says a lot about the type of person you are that you jump to find a symbol to represent the victimization of your hatred of the show.
You can dislike the show but the tinhatting and conspiracy theories I have seen flying around are quite frankly embarrassing and this is a needed reality check.
At the end of the day Henry Cavill is a high-level movie star who makes choices based on his career and what he wants to do. Your parasocial relationship with the man is entirely in your own head and I recommend trying to get out.

If anyone is interested, here are all of the spoilers and rumors so far about Radovid and Jaskier x Radovid and just everything relating to that. And also book!Radovid.
Tumblr media
"Royal playboy and younger brother to King Vizimir, Radovid finds himself suddenly a man on the inside of the Redanian Intelligence. With his good looks and drunken charm, Radovid amazes with how incisive he can be in political affairs, but it’s all games until someone gets hurt."

Episode 1: “Shaerrawedd” Meanwhile at the Redanian court, our bard Jaskier is involved in political plots and schemes, which leads him to his fateful meeting with Prince Radovid of Redania.
Episode 2: “Unbound” Back at the Redanian court, there’s still plotting, scheming and the development of Jaskier’s romance with Prince Radovid. The bard even sings a song to the prince.

Transcript of Radovid's audition scene with Jaskier:
Jaskier: It’s been years since I’ve seen the princess. Also, ……. If I could help… Radovid: It’s nice, but nothing like you chose. What I wouldn’t give to hear you play halfway as … on that one. Jaskier: Oh, a fan? And someone who understands true artistry? How the instrument and the artist can elevate each other. Radovid: Yes, two things of beauty, made to be together. Jaskier: Precisely! Radovid: So here’s a thought: this poor princess has enemies everywhere and truth be told our kingdom’s not a bad place. It’s cold in winter and humid in summer. The cuisine, however, spectacular. And my brother’s not bad as far as my likes are concerned. Redania may not be perfect, but it’s her least bad option. And if you came to Redania, you could be our royal troubadour. Otherwise we might have to listen to that reedy voice of Valdo Marx. Just think about it, would you? Jaskier: I would. Radovid: We should be going. [Suggestive] Unless you’d like to show me how you play your instrument.
* Note: I've changed the names to reflect the proper characters/locations.

We know that this [audition] scene or a very close version of it made it into the show and that there are more moments of flirtation and chemistry between Radovid and Jaskier later on. The two men develop a romantic relationship over the course of the season. And later, Jaskier and Radovid finally kiss.

“Jaskier falls in love,” Schmidt Hissrich reveals. “And it’s with a character who fans will know [and] continues showing up in the books. So what happens this season between them will have ripple effects for a very long time.”
Batey relished digging into Jaskier’s new love story. “He’s having his hot girl summer,” Batey jokes. “It’s been really rewarding to see [his love life] told in a very visual way. [We] ensured that these romances are told truthfully — and sensitively and carefully, without resorting to stereotypes… Hopefully we’ve created something that is special, a sapioromantic and sapiosexual [connection] that is as flawed as any other relationship in this show.”
One other element in Jaskier’s life may just complicate his newfound love. As he’s “falling into an uncle role” for Ciri alongside parental figures Geralt and Yennefer, Jaskier is also pulled into the political machinations of the Continent.
“He’s certainly a man of many trades, but I’m not sure he’s inherently built to be a spy,” Batey says. “Yet he’s found himself in a time of war, in turmoil, and is trying to do his best to do something good.”

~
Joey Batey finally verified that his poet will indeed end up in a romantic entanglement with the new character. "Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich came to me long before we even saw some scripts and said, 'This is the direction we'd like to take Jaskier,'" Batey told SFX, calling the romance subplot "a more modern interpretation of the books." In a previous interview with Netflix's Tudum, Batey declared season 3 Jaskier's "hot girl summer," calling the romance "sapioromantic" (a term that refers to falling for someone's intellect regardless of gender) without actually citing the love interest character by name.
Speaking to SFX, Batey explained that he doesn't "think Jaskier really sees gender," but also implied that meeting Radovid throws the character for a loop from their very first encounter. "We see Radovid arriving," Batey said, and, "for the first time in a while, Jaskier can't work him out. That to him is the most intriguing prospect." He describes a moment of recognition between the pair: "You wear just as much of a mask as I do. I want to see who is going to lower their mask first."
Hissrich also spoke with the outlet, and explained that Jaskier's relationship with Radovid will be completely different than his connection with a character video game players will know, Vespula. "When we started in the writers' room this season, we had a question about Jaskier that was really fun to explore: Who is Jaskier when he is on his own, away from Geralt, Yen and Ciri?" Hissrich asked. "What that brought us to is Jaskier's first really serious relationship."
Hissrich continued: "We introduced a character from the books, Vespula — Jaskier's on-again-off-again lover, but then we used that dynamic to provide a contrast to what happens when Jaskier actually starts to have deeper feelings toward someone." That someone seems poised to be Radovid.
"My priority was ensuring it was done in a sensitive, caring way that avoided all kinds of stereotypes," he told SFX. "I was heavily involved in some of the script revisions in order to ensure a very safe, sexual, romantic connection with this person."

Jaskier will be singing tunes here and there throughout the season. One of his sad love songs he will be singing to none other than his new love interest, Prince Radovid of Redania.

Mentions of Radovid in the books:
Prince Radovid was a minor, Queen Hedwig had been devastated by the tragic death of her husband - the aristocracy, terrified, had become stupid, and was disunited and divided into factions.
— Baptism of Fire
“I know [Calante] had wedding plans for Ciri, to join her with young Tancred Thyssen of Kovir or perhaps to the Redanian prince, Radovid, I dont know exactly.”
— The Tower of Swallows
'Long live His Holiness!' A few voices came from the crowd, obviously bribes. Novigrad's hierarch Cyrus Englekind Hemmelfart rose and blessed the people and the army with his outstretched hands, while irreverently covering Queen Hedwig and young Radovid with the skirts of his robe.
Nobody shouts, "Long live Radovid", thought the prince covered by the hierarch's fat ass. No one even looks at me. No one is screaming in honour of my mother. No one remembers my poor father. Even today, at a day of triumph, which he so richly deserved. After all, that's why he was murdered.
He felt a gaze on his neck. Delicate like someone he did not know - or knew, but only in his dreams. Something that was soft like a brush of a woman's warm lips. He turned his head. He discovered the dark unfathomable eyes of Philippa Eilhart fixed on him.
Wait, thought the prince, looking away. Just wait.
No one could predict or guess then that this boy of thirteen years, which at that time was a person without any relevance in a country ruled by the Regency Council and by Dijkstra, would become king. A king who, after he paid all the insults that had been given to his mother and him, would go down in history with the name Radovid the Stern.

Will Netflix greenlight a Six Of Crows Spin off?
An analysis of the current situation
1. interview with EW
Tumblr media
The showrunner of SaB being allowed to make an official statement when EW reached out to him is a good sign. It means Netflix wants to test the water and get people hyped for a potential spin off. Also EW! This shows how high the demand is for that show.
But more importantly:
Tumblr media
They wrote the whole script already two years before season 2 aired. That means Netflix has really high hopes for a potential spin off.
Netflix is really well known for renewing and cancelling shows not based on actual viewing data’s but based on calculated viewing forecasts. Meaning: Netflix commissioning a spin off two years before season 2 was aired means they predicted a really high demand for a spin off. Now our views only have to match their forecast
2. the Witcher struggling, Stranger things ending
Every streaming service has one, really high in demand fantasy show, that is appealing for a mass audience. This was first Stranger Things, but Stranger Things is ending soon. The next big hit was The Witcher. They gave it an animated spin off, a real life spin off, announced seven seasons at once etc. This was HUGE! The Witcher was their show that Netflix used to compete against other players on the market, especially The Rings of Power. But now the Witcher is struggling a lot. Recasting the main actor, blood origin being badly received by the fans, Cavill and LSH bitching at each other, the whole fighting becoming an online meme. And at this point no one knows if people really want to watch an Australian Geralt. So they need another big fantasy show. And while shadow and bone is not doing as good as the Witcher, it is still doing completely solid. For them, SaB and especially the crows are a safe harbor.
3. The promo
The promo for the second season is insane. The promo is rolled out on every social media channel, even on Netflix Gold and the MOST. Season 2 is out since one week now and they are still releasing new promo content every day. All hapa Asian cast members together, a wesper BTS tour? This is insane! Netflix wants this show to be their next big hit! They want a big fanbase, so people stick to netflix. Because soon the Witcher 3 will be released and I think Netflix is really afraid that many people will cancel their subscription after it. A Six of Crows Spin off will bind viewers to the Netflix for the next… 2/3 years and help them in a really difficult time. Because building up a new fan base that is so big like the SaB is not easy
Tumblr media
Like the crows always being put together in the promo is not a huge bait to see fans reaction towards them, come on, is super obvious
4. the new intro for season 1
Netflix making a new intro for the first season shows that Netflix is ready to invest money into the show. Not only in the new season but also in the old season. Also it was really clear that season 2 had a way bigger budget then season 2. look at the different intro cards. They are ready to invest money. And they are ready to invest even more money IF it pays off, meaning: if enough people watch season 2. and hype it up online. Because what Netflix wants is new people subscribing and everyone online taking about the show
Tumblr media
5. six of crows being listed by PW
Yeah it is only listed as „in development“ but if you think about it, this is actually a huge deal. They have been quietly developing a spin off since 2021, told no one about it, and now season 2 is released since ONE WEEK and suddenly it is listed in PW? They could have also waited the first month, to have all numbers. But nope, one week and they said: put it in there“ this means they have really high hopes for it and are really optimistic.
Tumblr media
So i would say we have a really good chance to get that show IF we keep it trending, keep up the hype and keep on streaming and recommending it to friends
So in conclusion: stream, recommend, like and tweet. Like this we will steal us a spin off

Vulture interview excerpt
Before we learn that Yennefer’s mentor Tissaia takes her own life, the two have a final conversation about what they’ve given up because of chaos and reflect on their relationship built on shared pain. Can you talk about filming that last scene with MyAnna Buring?
I knew we were coming to that. This was the most important part of season three for me: this relationship and it coming to an end as it does. In that ending, Yennefer is fully able to step into a position of responsibility. She’s always relied on Tissaia. That’s been her beacon, her guiding light for so long, and now she has to travel in those footsteps and own all the life lessons Tissaia taught her.
MyAnna means so much to me. She was there day one. I’d spend time with her family in Budapest. She looked after me in season one, and has through the seasons — not only me, but everyone on set. She gives so much. That loss is huge for the show and huge for Yennefer.

Fic author interview! I was tagged by @what-alchemy - thank you! No-pressure tagging @phdmama, @incognitajones, @alessandriana, @lynne-monstr, and anyone else who wants to play.
How many works do you have on AO3?
349 publically, maybe a dozen more in anon collections, and two or three that I've orphaned for various reasons.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,349,113, ye gods.
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Calamity's Child (Stranger Things) - 7249 kudos
Body of Memory (Shadowhunters) - 5029 kudos
Star of the Masquerade (Stranger Things) - 4923 kudos
lost souls and reverie (The Witcher - TV) - 3118 kudos
So Newly Charming (Stranger Things) - 2274 kudos
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I used to, but I've been really bad about it in the past year or so. I do read and cherish every comment I get, though.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Hard to say! There are a couple of Supernatural ficlets from ~13 years ago with fairly fucked up endings. Of my somewhat recent fic, probably either Empty or Bonny Mad Boys (both for Shadowhunters), with a special mention for my zombie apocalypse Buddie fic, where the dead men lost their bones, although that does at least allow for the possibility of a happy(ish) ending.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Honestly, the vast majority of my fic has happy endings, even when I put them through the wringer first.
7. Do you write crossovers?
I've written a few, mostly for various fic challenges. It's not something I do all that often though.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Oh, yeah. Death threats, even! Shadowhunters fandom was weirdly unhinged about this.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Um, yes. XD
I used to write smut very rarely, and feel extremely awkward about it, and then I decided to write 100k words worth of fills for the Clowntown kinkmeme, and that pretty much cured me of that.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I know?
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, several, into a handful of different languages. Always very exciting! I link back if I know about them.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not one that ever actually got posted.
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
I have been in fandom wayyyy too long to answer this, lol.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
I have a really angsty Reddie cheating fic that I wrote like 20k words of and then abandoned. I sometimes think about returning to it, but honestly I probably won't.
15. What are your writing strengths?
I think I write pretty good dialogue - it's definitely one of the things I enjoy the most. Also action and smut, which IMO are pretty similar from a logistical standpoint.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I am so bad at anything resembling plotting. SO bad. And frankly I always feel like my fluff is stilted and saccharine; I do much better with angst, generally speaking.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
I've done it before, but I probably wouldn't now, not the least because I'm really not fluent enough in any other language to be worth it.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
That I actually posted? LOTR RPF. Thankfully, that's been lost to the defunct forums of 2002. I've been writing fic just for my own entertainment pretty much as long as I've been able to read, though.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
Good Omens! I've read a fair amount of fic, but I didn't really get immersed in the fandom until after season 2. I have a couple of ideas that I'm playing around with, but I don't completely feel like I've got the character voices down yet.
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written
This changes OFTEN. I think right now, So Newly Charming is the fic I've written most recently that actually came out exactly how I wanted it to. I can reread it without cringing, which is a rarity for me.

At this point, I think a substantial reason why I dislike Netflix's Witcher is because it's sort of love-hate. Or like-hate.
Like, with the bizarre adaptation choices, the confirmation that there's people (or was people) in charge of the show who hate the source material, and Henry Cavill leaving presumably due to the first two points, I kind of want to just hate it. I kind of want to just walk away, like I've more or less done with the MCU.
And then they had Joey show up in Blood Origins. And then they decided to expand his part. And they release stills where he's in his sort of pirate ensemble from season 2 and where it looks like he gets his lute back. And he's all scuffed up and feral and bloody but also just really soft (like asking whether he's the right person for the job).
And then I'm just, like: *heavy sigh* *gritted teeth* Fine, dammit, I guess I can't abandon the sinking ship just yet. I recognize that they're just dangling Jaskier in front of us to trick us into walking into what could just be a trap, but dammit, I'll trudge along anyway. I'll be along for the ride but I'll reserve the right to bitch about it.
And then I just hate Netflix's Witcher a bit more for getting me to stick around. And that all it's taken so far is the blatant manipulation of more bard content. Like that little light thing that anglerfish use to lure prey, like in Finding Nemo.
I sort of hope the show tanks after season 3. Then I can walk away. And Joey can walk away. And get a role where people care about the adaptation and his character. (And, y'know, more TAD content would be wonderful.)
I've said it before but I'll say it again: I think he (and Madeline) would fit really well in a Neil Gaiman adaptation. (Currently going are Sandman and Good Omens, both of which Neil is actively involved with.)
However, based off the one (1) episode I've so far watched because I haven't yet caved and got an AMC subscription, I think Interview with the Vampire might be a good fit, too. He could wear different historical clothing styles, be scruffy and feral and wild, and be full-tilt fruity. Like, a show like that, with such high camp and drama? And where, frankly, it appears that everyone is one shade of the rainbow or another? Just hand the guy a script and set him free on set.
(Also, let's be honest, I wouldn't complain about seeing Madeleine as a vampire, either.)
What sort of role would ya'll like to see him in? Could be a general concept, could be something specific. I'm curious about what my fellow unhinged Joey/Madeleine/TAD fans come up with!
