Thinking about how Gwen was living at the spider society for SO LONG. Like I’m betting somewhere between like 6-8 months or more.
There’s a year and 4 months that passed for MILES in his dimension, but in Gwen’s dimension she’s like a week or so behind. She says that in the first movie when she’s telling Miles and Peter how she ended up there, that she was “blown into last week, literally.”
When we first see Gwen in atsv her hair hasn’t grown at all, it’s still the same as when she left Miles dimension so she hadn’t been home for very long. And then when she first shows up in Miles dimension her hair has grown A LOT (yes I’m basing this purely off her hair growth).
It looks like it’s grown like 3-4 inches and it the average person like 8 months to grow 4 inches (says google). And also when Gwen is forced to go back to her dimension and she sees her day he says that he looks skinny, so it had to be been a decent amount of time for him to lose quite a bit of weight (but that’s not as obvious in his character design, even tho he does look more unkept when he sees Gwen again, so I don’t really want to focus on that).
So yah just thinking about how long she was homeless and living with the spider society and crashing with Hobie and missing her dad 🙃
(also Hobie was definitely the one to help her dye her hair and re-shave the side of her head. Older brother Hobie for the win 💪)

It’s just the four of them now. Martyn is lying next to her on the ground of Scott’s base where they’d made camp. Scott is swinging his legs off of his bed, facing them from where he’s lying. Pearl’s insisted on a rafter, for some reason, keeps on giggling about it. Cleo knows better. Pearl’s got perfect vantage of all of them, from there. Good thing she’s decided to play ball for now, right?
It’s just the four of them, now. Maybe it always would have been.
“Hey Martyn,” she says. “If you could have picked who it would have been, who?”
“Oh, spicy,” Scott says.
“...well, that’s not fair,” Martyn starts.
“He’s gonna say Ren,” Pearl says.
“Yeah, we all know that, don’t we?” Cleo says, rolling her eyes. “I was just curious if he’d say it.”
“Well that’s - rude and uncalled for - clearly, Ren’s already dead, so -”
“Hah. You would have,” Scott says.
“Oh yeah? How about you lot?” Martyn says, like it’s actually a challenge.
“Tilly,” Pearl says promptly.
“The dog?” Martyn asks.
“Uh, Martyn, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but...” Scott says.
“Yeah, sorta already answered that one,” Cleo says.
“You all are bullying me!” Martyn exclaims. “I feel very bullied.”
“Suffer,” Cleo says.
They’re all quiet for a while.
“I mean - okay, to be honest,” Martyn starts. “I mean. I don’t know. I don’t really want you as a soulmate. No offense.”
“I look so offended, I’m sure,” Cleo says.
“I mean, I want you, but I mean, I don’t, you know?”
“Yeah, I have no idea what you’re saying,” Scott says.
“I mean... ugh. Nevermind.”
“No, I get it,” Pearl says. Everyone turns to her. She has her head tilted oddly, but it’s more a curious gesture than anything else. “I get it. I don’t want Scott. I don’t want to be alone either. So I want him, like that, and I don’t want him, also like that. And that’s awful. I want something better, if I got to. But also, if I did it all again...”
“Really?” Scott asks.
“Yeah,” Pearl says. “Yeah.”
“Like that,” agrees Martyn. “It’s like that.”
“Huh,” Cleo says.
It’s quiet for a little bit, outside of the quiet sound of rain starting outside, pounding against Scott’s roof. Their weapons are lying next to them. They’re sleeping in armor, just in case. It’s just the four of them, now. They can’t afford to slip up. Not at the rate things are going now. They can’t afford vulnerability. But then again, vulnerability - if Cleo’s being honest, none of them could ever afford that. Not vultures like them.
“I get it,” Cleo says. “Probably wouldn’t change things either.”
“...yeah, okay, sap,” Scott says.
“It’s not sappy, it’s practical,” Cleo says. “Where else would we have the practice to last this long?”
The rain grows heavier outside. Grian and Scar and Bdubs and Impulse and Joel and Etho stalk somewhere in the rain.
“I mean, there are other reasons, too,” Pearl says, finally. “But those are the main ones, I guess.”
Cleo’s not sure why she wants to reach for her axe. It is just the four of them now. Four circling vultures, covered in only the most self-inflicted of wounds.
“I guess,” she agrees, and they don’t say anything else until they’re woken up by a noise outside and have to prepare to fight once again.
