imagine you're watching the bad kids, a group of adventurers the same year as you taking the last standard exam, a test no party has ever beaten, and theyre so close to acing it, theyve killed so many monsters already

and their cleric, the previous chosen of your helioic faith, who despite having a dead god has been healing and banishing and blessing and protecting their party from the horrors around them, pops up next to you

and you've been told by your party that theyre rule breakers, kids who can get away with anything, who dont care about school

but you ask kristen applebees, despite it all, if they're alright

and thats the last thing you say before you die

i can’t get over kristen acting all bothered listening to fabian and ecaf’s ‘flirty’ conversations. the kristen applebees. kristen “you won’t be complaining when we’re sixty-nineing and healing you guys” fucking applebees. girl you slept with tracker in this very van!!

Brennan's level of improv skill is wild. He had planned a multitude of different ways for them to have that encounter - none of which involved diving head first into Riz's briefcase. And yet it seemed so seamless. He's a perfect example of a DM quickly adapting the story for the sake of honouring party choices and player agency and it's always so fucking refreshing to see.

Okay but I’ve been thinking about the conversation Kristen had with Tracker in ep 11, specifically the part where she asks “what part of this seems unholy to you?” And like… bear with me here…. But Kristen was raised in the Helioic Faith which has a huge emphasis on damnation and hell. It was an off hand joke in Freshman Year that Kristen went to the Harvestmen meetings, and joked about being kept awake for hours and not getting enough food. We know she used to pray for hours and that there was a lot of emotional turmoil when she realized that she was gay. My point being that so much of Helioic faith is built around the promise of future pain, and on a personal level for Kristen it brought her a lot of emotional pain.

So it makes all the sense in the world for her to look at Tracker having a good time with her religion and wonder how that’s proper worship. I think it also puts into perspective Kristen struggling to connect with other deities. It must feel almost alien, after spending her entire adolescence struggling in the name of Helio, to meet gods that do not promise pain or struggle as a part of faith. No wonder she panics and throws up blocks between her and Cassandra that she must fight to overcome. Because struggling for faith is what she’s used to.

Also a lovely parallel to Adaine saying that sometimes she wished her new family would be just a little bit mean to her. She’s only known one way her whole life, and she knows it’s good that the pain is gone, but at the same time doesn’t know what to do without it.

Idk man for a silly dnd show where we get sexy rats showing hole, there’s a lot of depth and nuance to the story telling.

Here’s how the Bad Kids should have solved the problem:

From 5:05-5:30 only the first train is traveling at 60 mph. That’s 25 minutes at 60 miles per hour, a.k.a. 1 mile per minute, which means 25 miles traveled.

We can then reduce the distance left to travel by 25 miles, giving us 135-25=110 miles left to travel.

Now both trains are moving toward each other, so the rate at which the distance decreases (or the speed of one train relative to the other if you prefer) is 60+70=130 mph.

Now we need to know how long to travel 110 miles at 130 miles per hour, so we divide 110/130 and get 0.846153… hours.

Multiply that by 60 to get 50.76923076923076 minutes. Subtract off the 50 full minutes and multiply by 60 again to get 46.153846… seconds.

50 minutes added onto the start time of 5:30 gives us 6:20, and if we add on the seconds and round to the nearest second like they seemed to in preparing the question, we get the correct answer of 6:20:46.
