There are moments in Bleach you could have told me happened differently and I would have believed you, had this been a written medium and the opposite was written in the words on the page. But manga is a visual medium, and I can see what is actually going on for I have eyes.
(1) Grimmjow and Ichigo fight
A shinigami's weapon is his sword, but this shinigami dropped his sword to take on a hollow barehanded, and with the same bare hands he grips the hollow's bare wrist--romance style, below Grimmjow's actual wrist, in between the wrist and the elbow, because a grip on the arm would be too commonplace--while saying "I'm sorry. It is over now. You lost. This fight cannot continue anymore." Giving the GRIP which made Grimmjow question everything, softly"what are we?"; so that Grimmjow hangs out a decade later outside Ichigo's window like a raccoon by the dumpster trash "I'm outside your window. Come out and fight me, Ichigo." "Grimmjow, go away, I'm married." Prompting Ichigo's son to ask "Mom, why is there a strange man outside asking for Dad?" and Orihime say "Do not worry, dear, that's because your father can't say no, but all this will end soon once I file for divorce."
Gay... and I hate that shonen has gay moments like this not because it embraces homosexuality, but because it hates women. The same is rarely afforded to the female characters, and neither do the male characters get to be gay or bi.
But speaking of the few f/m moments we see in this manga...
(2) Young Shunsui's Gaze towards Nanao's mom
Once again, if this was a written medium and you had told me that the author explicitly wrote that young Shunsui saw his sister-in-law as family and had nothing but respect for, I would have believed you. Except it is drawn black (or colored) ink on white paper, and I can see that gaze for everything it stands for-- SINNING! Those are not the (kind of) eyes you look at your sister or sister-in-law with, those are the eyes that--
And he himself knew it was sinful, because he looked away, and that made it double or ten-fold sinful. If his gaze had been proper, non-coveting, he wouldn't have bothered to look away, because the admittance of guilt was in the looking away. And it is worse, because this is not the womanizer Shunsui who will gawk at women and not care he got caught; he looked away because the gaze didn't contain lust, (much worse), it contained yearning... the boy was in love.
Respect? Yeah, he'd respectfully would want her to sit on his face.
