Craziness!

For the third time, I'm reading Summer in February, by Jonathan Smith. It's one of my favourite novels, and ... what's so special about it is that it's based on a true story.

It's Cornwall, 1913 ... in the midst of a bohemian artists' community in Lamorna. There's AJ Munnings, a brash, striking artist; blind in one eye, always the life of the party ... an artist far ahead of his time. There's Gilbert Evans, a shy, gentlemanly land agent, best friends with AJ. And into this picturesque seaside town of Lamorna walks beautiful, ethereal, enigmatic Florence Carter-Wood, come to study art in Cornwall.

What follows is predictable, and yet somehow it's so intriguing and devastating ... both men fall in love with her, and it tears their friendship apart. Florence is torn between someone she knows is right for her, who loves her so sincerely and deeply, and yet she can't help but fall for AJ's dazzling charm, his glamour. Essentially, it's a story about a young woman who made all the wrong choices, and the consequences that follow are tragic and heartbreaking.

It's completely and utterly worth the read, even if the story crushes you ... it's honestly mind-blowing to imagine that all of it really happened in that beautiful part of Lamorna. I'll probably watch the film again tonight (starring Dan Stevens as Gilbert .... adding to the long list of reasons I love it :D).

Are you taking any vacation this summer? I went to Croatia last weekend and I'm taking another couple of days off at the end of July.

Bad Girls aired for BTVS season 3, episode 14. This was the first appearance of Buffy's new watcher, Wesley Wyndham Pryce. The bulk of the episode features Buffy and Faith together. They patrol, talk shit about Wesley, Faith convinces Buffy to ditch school, they slay, they go dancing at the Bronze, they shoplift, they get arrested, they escape, Faith and Buffy leave Willow behind when they go patrol, and Buffy talks to Faith while Faith hand washes some clothing.

The Bronze dance scene was later used a reference for the animated series X-Men Evolution (2000), where Rogue and Kitty dance. Rogue "copies" Faith and Kitty "copies" Buffy. (Gif evidence here, but warning that there are a lot of flashing lights in the link.)

Sorry but I’m just not going to pay attention to some of the bad kids’ canon heights. Some of them are listed as too damn tall (and Gorgug has 100 percent grown since freshman year) so have 80 million headcanons

Like you’re telling me Riz is supposed to be 4’4”?? That’s a tall ass goblin! That’s too big to be reasonably carted around on the others’ shoulders, no no, I’m making the executive decision to draw him as 3’9” - 3’11” from now on and you can’t stop me. I’d give him another inch or two by college and that’s it.

Kristen being 5’11”? NAH She’s 5’6”. BIG 5’6” energy right there.

Adaine and Fig didn’t have their heights listed on the wiki but I’m thinking Adaine is 5’10” and Fig is 5’4”. Or Fig is also 5’10” ish and takes after Gorthalax idk but I’m leaning towards short Fig.

Fabian can actually stay same as canon at 6’1”. Maybe grow an inch or two since freshman year but honestly his still works. He’s a year older than the others, prolly grew a little earlier and plateaued early-mid sophomore year, half-elf youth look and all that. I think he lied in introductions freshman year and was about 5’11” - 6’0” and grew over the year before the others could notice the discrepancy.

And Gorgug. Gorgug. You’re telling me he reached 6’4” in freshman year and didn’t keep growing?? Mother fucker he has to have hit at LEAST one growth spurt since, puberty does not hit that early in boys that he was done growing at 14/15. I’m thinking 6’8” or so by Junior Year so far, maybe another couple inches before graduating, maybe not.

I'm in a "Summer in February" kind of mood today.

Flicked through the novel yet again, because it had been starting to collect dust on my bookshelf! And yet again I was hit by all the FEELS.

I can't watch the film any more because it's been taken down on YouTube (argh!) But I did listen to the film soundtrack and that was some sort of substitute, along with scouring Tumblr and reblogging all the gifs I could find :D

Lamorna is such a beautiful, beautiful place. I'd love to visit one day. It's incredible to think that this tragic love story took place right there, near the seaside and the cliffs and rocks where the bohemians painted horses and a shy, gentle land agent and a brash artist fell in love with the same, deeply troubled woman.

In other news, I'm very glad it's Friday because it's been a pretty tiring week. Cheers for the weekend!

it's so funny to me that in once more with feeling spike goes off on buffy about not having broken into song yet but then immediately sings one about how buffy makes him feel alive. dude forgot why people in musicals sing. because they can't just say their feelings because it's too much. he will tell her more about his feelings for her but not yet. it's still too much right now.

I wish there were more restaurants with affordable prix fixe or tasting menus. I would love for nice but not ridiculously fancy restaurants to basically say "here is what we're sure is good today, you can eat that or maybe one or two other things. Otherwise come back in 2-3 days and see if that's more interesting."
