EXPLAINING KRYPTONITE WITH SUPERGIRL AND POWER GIRL

PART 2

"I-ahahahaha...." Kara laughed nervously as the Supergirl flouted in the air, rubbing the back of her head awkwardly "So we kinda... well... got a bit over the top there at the end, huh?"

"A bit?!" Karen frowned, the Power Girl resting her hands on her hips "If I described all the shit we did to each other under Black K, the reader's would be reading a fanfiction instead of out informative blog piece!"

"Alright! Alright! I get it!" Kara groaned "Sorry for the wait guys. We had to... well... wait for the Black K to wear off before continuing. And considering how I am with Black K once I'm on it? It is kinda tough to get it all off me and then give me enough time to 'detox'. With earings, a necklace, the nipple piercings, the butt plug, the-"

"I think they get it. I think they get it." Karen groaned "And that's another thing before we go into detail today. Kryptonite's effects are temperoary, but take time to wear off. Longer the exposure, longer it takes to wear off."

"Now, on to the sexy fun!" Supergirl cheered "What's the first Kryptonite today?"

"White Kryptonite." Power Girl commented as she suddenly held up her hand, showing off the glowing white stone

Several members of the audience screamed and hid away

"Oh, don't worry. It's harmelss." Power Girl waved dismissively "But it's also time to clear something up I think wasn't too clear the first time. Only Green K's causes pain of any kind to Kryptonian's they effect."

"Now, as for what White K does." Supergirl continued "It kills plant life. That's... Kinda it. It's bad for plants and bacteria. Superman, our cousin Clark, actually has a White K laser up at the Fortress of Solitude that acts as a sanatiser. Has destroyed multiple parasitic life forms."

"So, arguably, this is the best type of Kryptonite. It is actually useful." Power Girl nodded as she put the white rock away

"Platinum Kryptonite is next." Supergirl said as she held up a near identical rock, only a bit closer to silver in colour "As you can see above, this gives Kryptonian powers. To any humanoid being."

"So humans, Tameranians, Thanagarians, Martians, all of them automatically become as powerful as Kryptonian's." Power Girl nodded ... "Well, Martians where already like that, but there are only so many commonly known DC alien species."

"And yes, fan boys. Give this to Goku, he gets Superman's powers." Supergirl rolled her eyes "So.... What's next?"

"Next is another white/silver Kryptonite.... Silver Kryponite." Karen explained

"And we have no pic for it!" Supergirl called dramatically

"Silver K is exclusive to Smallville and looks just like mercury." Karen sighed, shuddering in fear at the idea of said fear "Even a tiny bit enters the blood steam and it makes Kryptonian super paranoid. To a scary level."

"Indeed." Kara nodded before grinning "You know, I think we are in luck. We haven't had one weird Kryptonite yet."

"Yeah, you're right." Karen realised "And we only have two types left. I wonder what the next one is."

Suddenly a pink glow washed over both heroines, making them gasp out and cover their heads

"Pink K, of course." Kara mumbled as she blushed, looking at Karen... And getting lost in her breasts, unable to look away from her counterparts chest

"Pink Kryptonite... It is a bit of a meme, as some of you may know." Power Girl mumbled as she tried not to look at Supergirl. Mumbling under her breath as she bit her lip, small words like 'why is she so cute?' coming out under her breath "It... It makes Kryptonian's gay."

"Yeah." Supergirl nodded as she tried to look away from the other attractive blonde "Not-Not much has been explored about this. Like how it effects bi Kryptonian's, how 'real' it is, and things like that. It's mostly up to writers interpretation."

"But it only ever appeared as a throw away background joke in one Super Girl comic." Power Girl further explained "At least until it got a.... Revamp in recently years."

"In a-In Justice League Action, a newer Justice League cartoon for kids, it did gender swapping instead. Turning Superman into a Superwoman." Kara laughed nervously "So I guess it depends on what kinks you and your RP partner are into."

"Remember. Always ask before doing such a thing." Karen nodded, blushing "And also remember, suddenly being lesbian or gay doesn't mean you're automatically all over your partner. It changes what-what you're attracted to, not who you are or how horny you are."

"Yeah, what she said." Kara nodded before a second light covered them, a purple glow.....

"Aaaahh~!" Both moaned, falling to their knees as their juices flowed down their thighs

"If you're-you're here for canon, this is-is where you can get off." Kara panted as she hugged herself, shaking "Bye now. And... And remember, this is an 18+ RP blog so.... Oh fuck~!"

"Our-our final Kryptonite today is.. is Purple Kryptonite. B-Basically an OC type of Kryptonite created by-by this blog's writer." Power Girl moaned, finding it almost impossible to keep her hands off her large breasts as she rubbed her own tits "Mmmm~!"

"Purple K, as-as you've guessed makes-fuck! Horny! Horny! Makes us horny!" Supergirl moaned deeply, a hand under her skirt pumping "This is-isn't real! It is-is made up for this blog! Fuck! Karen! I need!"

"Coming! I'm coming!" The other blonde panted, crawling towards her counterpart. Almost drooling as she approached her

"I-I need to be cumming soon or I'm gonna go insane!" The younger counterpart moaned, her blonde hair flowing around her like a halo as she threw her head back

"You lot..." Power Girl panted "Fuck off! We're gonna be busy!" And with that she pounced, pulling Kara into a deep kiss

The two moaning as they wrapped their arms around each other and began to make out, their hands gliding across each others bodies

DC Saiyans and Goku

(Will play this verse at any point, leave many key events vague for purposes)

The saiyans were an infamous species of aliens, reputed for traveling to other planets, killing off the inhabitants, or otherwise running them off, and then using the planet for their own use, or selling/bargaining them to other evil galactic forces, or even races previously displaced by the saiyan forces.

Such a race doesn’t garner its own negative attention, and enemies, so they would seek protection under Freeza, a frequent purchaser of theirs. However, influenced by ancient legends and stiff prodding from a far greater being than himself, Freeza would take it upon himself to destroy the saiyan homeworld, after calling them home, by tricking their king into fearfully doing so in case an attack was upon them.

Several saiyans would escape this, but only one would narrowly avoid the planet’s destruction.

Kakarot, son of Bardock and Gine, would send their son away in a pod, hoping to save him from the galactic overlord’s path of destruction. And escape he would, sent to the planet Earth unofficially, with little more than an errant release on the pod logs as indication that he had, indeed, gone anywhere by the Freeza Force’s systems.

And so would begin the magical adventure of Dragon Ball.

Key changes to this timeline include Goku originating in Paozu, China (the Eastern District), and the first portion of the magical adventure largely taking place throughout the continent of Asia. Bulma would be an American adventurer from West City, Krillin a Shaolin monk, etc. Papaya Island, and therefore the world martial arts tournament, would be situated in the Pacific Islands, and West City would instead be San Francisco.

Goku’s adventures throughout the first portion of Dragon Ball would largely remain unchanged until the Piccolo saga, with the range of Tambourine's murders not only including participants of the Tenkaichi Budokai, but also from pilfered records of public identity superheroes, based on the hero registry from the 1960s. This would result in the deaths of key members of the Justice Society.

Superheroes who were privy to these assassinations, beyond simply Tenshinhan and Master Roshi, would make attempts to defeat both Piccolo and his demon clan. Although, due to a lack of immediately available heroes who were both aware of what was going on, or able to do something about this, Demon King Piccolo was able to rule over key capitals across the world for several days.

Deciding to divide the world into 43 sections, he randomly selections section 29, the Western coast of the Americas, intent on destroying it first. However, through the intervention of Tenshinhan and Goku, Piccolo was destroyed, thanks to Goku’s ingesting of the Ultra Divine Water.

Another key change would be the nature of Goku’s training during the timeskip between the Demon King Piccolo saga and the Piccolo Jr. saga. Not only would Goku train under Kami to expand his ability to use chi/ki/qi, he would also spend some time training under I-Ching.

I-Ching would help Goku’s abilities with chi develop, but also teach Goku responsibility. Whether he liked it or not, his powers demanded he use them, either for good or evil. Simply using them for battle was not responsible, and would almost assuredly result in more destruction than not, even moreso than if he simply sought out conquest, like his people before him. And so, Goku would develop a more spiritual side to his path, becoming more altruistic, as he decided to represent the light in the world.

During this training, Goku would also meet another young man, Bruce Wayne, with who he’d cross paths again later.

The Piccolo Jr. Saga would transpire much the same as before, although towards the ending, Goku would still turn down Kami’s offer to be God, and instead become Earth’s guardian, training and studying from the lookout. This would not allow him to marry Chi-Chi, unfortunately, but she would still accompany him to the lookout.

During the times between the tournament, and Raditz’s appearance, Goku would encounter several other heroes of a similar magnitude, such as Batman, with whom Goku had once trained under I-Ching, and would occasionally advise on mystical matters, Superman, with whom Goku initially battled, and developed a close friendship with/friendly rivalry, and Wonder Woman, who would also serve as another of Goku’s rivals in martial combat.

Through the Saiyan Saga, the encounter with Raditz would resolve largely in the same way, as while lacking an actual marriage, Goku and Chi-Chi would still have a child together in Son Gohan, though his education would be largely handled by Mr. Popo, rather than private tutors. This would give his son a more spiritual outlook on life, but also not lacking in a drive to become an academic, like Chi-Chi hoped for. This would still set up the initial discourse between Goku, who while somewhat stronger than in the initial battle between himself and his brother, as well as the 2-on-1 against Raditz later, would still perish during the heat of battle.

This difference in power would be thanks to Goku’s active training over the four years, as Earth’s defender, and his missions that he would take alongside the other heroes of Earth, that would later result in his joining The Justice League.

The Saiyan invasion proper would see Team Dragon working together with an early incarnation of the Justice League, formed an alliance to help fend off Nappa and Vegeta. This would ultimately reduce the deaths in the heat of combat, as not only would Yamcha be the only member of Team Dragon affected by the Saibamen’s surprise attack, but it would allow Tenshinhan to survive his encounter with Nappa, thanks to the intervention of other League members.

Summarily, following the deaths of Yamcha, and Chiaotzu, would result in the Justice League no longer having an interest in squaring off, like Team Dragon and the saiyans insisted, and the battle quickly became a free-for-all.

Clark and Diana would prove largely a match for Vegeta and Nappa, being able to keep him from murdering other members of Team Dragon, but still very nearly losing Batman and Zatanna to the overwhelmingly powerful nature of the saiyan duo.

Salvation would come in the form of a recently resurrected Goku, however, as his new techniques, the Kaioken and Spirit Bomb would prove sufficient to help defeat the two saiyans in their Oozaru forms.

In the wake of the battle, though, Piccolo would still perish thanks to his wounds, as well as Barry Allen and Hal Jordan (the latter of which would result in the designation of Kyle Rayner as his replacement Green Lantern).

The expedition to Namek would serve largely its same purpose, though many events and battles would be shortened, due to the presence of Goku, and the lack of a death on the part of Nappa during the saiyan battles. However, many of the primary events and battles would still occur, though Dodoria and Zarbon would both be defeated on accelerated time tables due to the change in present fighters.

Many of the events in the Dragon Ball timeline still occur, largely in a similar fashion, with a primary emphasis being placed on the Asian continent for many of Goku’s adventures, though their consequences were still global in nature. By the end of Z, Goku would essentially be equivalent to an Eastern Hemisphere Superman, being of a similar, or greater, raw power than Kal-El.

Goku’s rivalries with other characters is often a focal point in his stories, and can pretty well put him on many sides of a conflict, so long as it doesn’t inherently contradict his responsibility to protecting Earth.

Goku’s power spikes are similar, but timed different, due to training with Kal-El and Diana.

What’s the difference between a pulp hero and a super hero?

There is a common sentiment when discussing pulp heroes, when compared to superheroes, that positions the two as if they were separate by entire eras, with pulp heroes being as distinct from the superheroes as the dinosaurs are to mankind. But then again, the dinosaurs never really went away, did they?

Oh sure, they endured a great extinction, they downsized and ceded their thrones to the tiny little rats that scurried in their shadow, who then grew to become just as big, and then even bigger, but they never went away. They simply adapted into new forms and formed new ecosystems. We call them birds now.

The gap between Superman and The Shadow is merely 6 years, hardly much of a generation. There are those that argue that the Marvel and DC universes still have pulp heroes, that Batman is (or was) one, that characters like The Question and Moon Knight carry on the tradition. We have characters like Hellboy, Grendel, Tom Strong and Zack Overkill as original, modern examples of pulp characters, strongly identified as such. Venture Bros had in 2016 the best modern take on the Green Hornet. Lavender Jack is still going strong. So the idea that pulp heroes are defined solely by being old and outdated isn’t exactly true, when clearly there’s still enough gas in the tank centuries later for stories with them to be told.

Is there any meaningful distinction between pulp heroes and superheroes? If not, can we identify one?

Costume is definitely a big part of it, as Grant Morrison famously argued in his own summation. Of what he considers the big difference between the two:

“What makes the superhero more current is the performance aspect. That's what The Shadow and those other guys don't really have. Their costumes are not bright, and they don't have their initials on their chest, and everything isn't out front and popping like the superheroes. I think we can relate to that about them because in the world we live in, everyone has a constant need to be a star. I think superheroes are keyed into that parallelism. They're performers. They're rock stars, and they always have been.

And he’s right, to an extent. It’s definitely tied into the central differences between The Shadow and Batman, as I’ve elaborated. While The Shadow was far, far from the only type of pulp hero, the superhero’s costume has long been defined as THE thing that sets it apart from every other type of fictional character. At least, when it comes to American superheroes.

Because the “criteria” for superheroes is nowhere near as set in stone as some would like to believe. Our basic definition of superheroes is based around comparisons and contrasts to Superman and Batman, and how they fit into what we call “the superhero genre”. The existence of a superhero genre is, in and of itself, debatable, and any working definition for superheroes is inevitably going to have too many exceptions.

Superheroes are not defined by settings, like cowboys or spacemen, or their profession, like detectives. They can’t be defined by superpowers (Batman), a mission statement, having secret identities (Fantastic Four, Tony Stark), being good people, or good at their jobs. The costume, the closest there is to a true, defining convention, still has a considerable share of exceptions like Jack Knight’s Starman, a great deal of the X-Men who do not wear uniforms, or most superheroes created outside the US. The most basic definition of superhero is of comic book characters with iconic costumes and enhanced abilities who fight villains in shared superhero universes, but even that falls short of exceptions by including characters who are not superheroes (John Constantine and other Vertigo characters, Jonah Hex, the Punisher). Some people would call Goku or Harry Potter or Lucky Luke or Monica’s Gang superheroes, Donald Duck has literally been one. “Character with a distinctive design and unusual talents who fights evil” includes virtually every fictional hero that’s ever achieved a modicum of popularity in a visual medium.

Even telling stories with super characters doesn’t mean you’re going to be writing a superhero story (Joker). Superheroes are not defined by settings and genres, but they can inhabit just about any of them you can imagine. Horror, westerns, gritty crime drama, historical reconstruction, romance, space adventure, war stories, surrealism stories. As Morrison put it, they aren’t so much a genre as they are “a special chilli pepper-like ingredient designed to energize other genres”, part of the reason why they colonized the entire blockbuster landscape.

Aviation became a thing in the war years, so they started producing en masse aviation pulps as a subgenre. Zeppelins became popular, so they had a short-lived zeppelin subgenre. Celebrities starred in their own magazines. The American pulps were different from the German pulps, or the Italian pulps, or the Canadian pulps. In China, wuxia arose at a similar time period and with similar themes and distribution. In Brazil, we have “folhetos”, short, poetic, extremely cheap prose often written about romantic heroes and “cangaçeiros”, the closest local equivalent to the American cowboys. In Japan, “light novels” began life as pulp fiction, distributed in exactly the same format and literally sold as such. Pulp fiction has long outlived any and all attempts to define it as 30s literary fiction only.

Likewise, “pulp” and “pulp heroes” are terms employed very, very loosely. Characters like The Shadow and Doc Savage arrived quite late in the history of pulp fiction. You had characters like Jimmie Dale, Bulldog Drummond, Tarzan, Conan, a billion non-descript trenchcoat guys, and before those the likes of Nick Carter and Sexton Blake, dime novel detectives who made the jump to pulp. You had your hero pulps, villain pulps, adventure pulps, romance pulps, horror pulps, weird menace pulps. Science fiction, planetary romance, roman-era adventures, lost race adventures, anything that publishers could sell was turned into pulp stories starring, what else, pulp heroes.

How do you make sense of it all?

The main difference to consider is the mediums they were made for.

Pulp heroes were made for literature, superheroes were made for comic books.

Superheroes NEED to pop out visually, to have bold and flashy and striking designs, because comic books are visual stories first and foremost, who live and die on having attractive, catching character designs and the promise of an entertaining story with them. Pulp heroes, in turn, can often just be ordinary dudes and dudettes and anything in between in trenchcoats or evening wear or furry underwear, or masters of disguise rarely identifiable, because the only thing that needs to visually striking at first glance in a pulp magazine is the cover, so your imagination can get ready to do the rest. Smoking guns, bloody daggers, a romantic embrace, monsters hunched over ladies in peril, incendiary escapes. The characters can look like and be literally anything.

Comic books are a sequential art form where art and writing come together to tell a story, and every illustration must serve the story and vice-versa. It needs to give you an incentive to keep being visually invested in whatever’s going on. Pulp literature stays dead on the page unless animated by your expectations; you may have the illusion of submitting to an experience, but really it’s you expending your imagination to otherwise inert signals. You have to provide the colors and flashy sequences and great meaning yourself, and as a trade, you get much more text to work with in novels than you do in comic books, where the dialogue and narration are fundamentally secondary to the visual, whether it’s a superhero punching stars or a monster covered in blood.

Each art form has its strengths and weaknesses, of course, which are only accentuated when each tries to be of a different kind. There's been pulp heroes that tried making the jump to comics, and comic heroes that made the jump to literature. There’s good, even great examples, of both, but even at their best, there's always some incongruity, because that's not the medium these characters were made for.

Superheroes are characters defined by being extraordinary. The pulp heroes are too, in many cases, distinguished from their literary antecessors because they were too uncanny and weird, a middleground between the folklore/fairy tale heroes and the grounded detective and adventure characters such as Sherlock, and the later far out superheroes. But they don’t necessarily have to be extraordinary. Sometimes they can very well just be completely ordinary characters, caught in bizarre circumstances and managing them as best they can, or simply using skills available to anyone who puts in effort to do good. Often enough the extraordinary comes in the form of a bizarre villain, or a tangled conspiracy, a monster from outside the world, a unique time period. The extraordinary is there, but it doesn’t have to be in the hero.

That is, I’d argue, the other big fundamental difference between the two. "Superhero” is a name we use to define a type of character who fits an extraordinary mold, a Super Hero. It’s a genre, it can be every genre, it’s a shared universe and a stand-alone epic. There are guidelines, structures at work here. Grids, page count, illustrators. The Big Two and their domain over the concept. Academic usage of the term, standards that rule the “genre”, when it is defined as a genre. Malleable and overpowering and adaptable and timeless as the superhero may be, it’s still bound by a certain set of rules and trends.

The term “pulp hero” is a term that we use to label just about any character that happens to star in something we recognize as “pulp fiction”, even if it isn’t literally written in pulp, even if it’s decades later. It’s a “metaphor with no brakes in it”. Superheroes can be pulp heroes. The most powerless, unlucky, homeless bum can be a pulp hero, there were entire subgenres of pulp stories based on homeless protagonists or talltale stories told in bars. The cruelest villain can be a pulp hero. Boris Karloff about to stab you with a knife named Ike IS a pulp hero, and so is a space slug on a warpath (look up what happened when Lovecraft and R.E Howard collaborated).

As much as I may dislike the idea of pulp heroes largely only existing in the shadow of superheroes nowadays...that is kinda appropriate, isn’t it? Of course they are going to live and make their homes in the place where the sun doesn’t shine. Where Superman and co would never go to.

Of course the 90s reboots of these characters failed. Because they tried turning these characters into superheroes, and they are not superheroes. They can visit those world, but they don’t belong in them, or anywhere else. They live in places where the light doesn’t touch, worlds much bigger and darker and more vast than you’d ever think at first glance, worlds that we still haven’t fully discovered (over 38% of American pulps no longer exist, 14% survive in less than five scattered copies, to say nothing of all pulps and pulp heroes outside of America). Not lesser, not gone, despite having every reason to. Just different, reborn time and time again. The shadow opposites.

In short: One is represented by Superman. The other is represented by The Shadow. There are worlds far beyond those two, but when you think of the concepts, those are the ones that things always seem to come back to.

Hello everybody I wanted to let everybody know that I am moderating several different role plays all on discord if you are interested in joining please DM me. We have what we call the roll play fun house where pretty much every fandom is involved (DM for more details on that one). And the Villains won, massacring the heroes. A civil war occured that wiped out the greater Villains. Guess this'll be the first real post!

Uhhh, where to start?

I'm 24, so do the math, I was born in 1996. Right in the middle of the era of boy bands, some of the weirdest fashion I've ever seen, and right at the tail end of the Millennial gen group.

I had cassette tapes before CDs, VHS before DVD, I know what a floppy disk is. My first game consoles were the PS1 (hand me down from my oldest brother), Gameboy SD, and GameCube.

I saw the peak and fall of flip phones.

And despite all this "old" and "weird" shit, we had some of the most bomb cartoons.

I'm not just a 90s kid tho. My oldest brother was born in 1982. I watched the Fresh Prince, He-Man, older Scooby-Doos and Ninja Turtles. Thundercats. I listen to a lot of classic rock, and some metal like my brother. I grew up knowing Batman and Iron Man. I even knew the Punisher. He was a need, and I got a lot from him.

Even better, my mother was born in 1962. I love Elton John, BeeGees, B52s, all the good stuff. My brother gave me AC/DC, she gave me The Who.

My music taste is very hectic, especially if put on random. J-Pop to AC/DC to the LOTR theme to Elton John to the metal cover of Chandelier to K-Pop to the occasional N'SYNC to songs from RWBY to songs to Combichrist. I am all over the board. Hate country music tho. I spent a good chunk of my life living in redneck nowhere and I got sick of the same 6 songs by the same 15 artists.

My video gaming is pretty wild too. I grew up playing a Blues Clues video game. I played GTA Vice City when I was 8 or 9, not that I got very far. My brother and I loved DBZ fighting games.

It's the reason I can spell vegetable. I had a problem with the word, can't remember why. And my brother says, "You know Vegeta from DBZ?"

"Yeah?"

"Can you spell his name?"

"V-E-G-E-T-A"

"Put ble on the end"

I grew up loving Devil May Cry. Dante was my hero. Still kind of is.

Kids love Superman and I loathe him. He's just...overpowered. He can do everything.

I have 2 ideas I judge certain characters by:

The Superman Syndrome, and

The Goku Complex.

Don't know if complex is used correctly, but here it it:

The Superman Syndrome encapsulates character that are overpowered in a bad way. For Superman, he is...the ideal person. Golden heart, follows rules, saves lives, blah, blah blah. He is practically invincible. And after decades of the same routines, the only things that can make him interesting are making him evil or killing him. Like for realsies. If he comes back to life and is the same Superman, he would also fall under the Goku Complex.

The Goku Complex is a character that may or may not be invincible. It follows many of the same traits as the Superman Syndrome with one key difference: escalation.

Every comic hero has its staple villains. Batman and the Joker. Cap and the Red Skull.

Goku has his, sure, but his have key problems: each has to bigger and badder than the last. He died fighting Raditz. He takes his journey to get stronger and fights Nappa and Vegeta who are stronger. Then is Freiza who is even stronger still. Androids. Buu. From what I understand, Goku is basically fighting gods now. But he will always beat them. And stronger enemies will come.

For those of you not familiar, perhaps I can present you with another show that suffers from the Goku Complex: Supernatural.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Dragon Ball and DBZ. I love Supernatural. But I had to give up on both after a while.

Supernatural starts with ghosts and wendigo, and vampires. Then a demon. More demons. Angels. Lucifer. Metatron (yeah, riddle me that). Death. God's angst-ridden sister. I'm skipping a lot but it's the same beat. Every enemy has to be stronger than the last. It doesn't end. And it gets old.

Okay so this blurb about me turned into my rant about Superman and Goku.
