Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary - A Celebration of Change in Science

So, I’ve made a series of drawings celebrating Jurassic Park’s 30th anniversary, specifically highlighting how much science has changed vs. when the original movie came out, and how much it affected the dinos of the franchise’s history.

First is the raptors, with a JP raptor here with Utahraptor and its namesake, Velociraptor.

Second is Spinosaurus, because JP3 has it’s 22nd anniversary this year, and the dude has changed repeatedly.

And finally, Tyrannosaurus rex itself. The modern T.rex is every bit as mighty and formidable as its fictional counterpart, and in some aspects (vision, overall build etc.) even more so. It’s only just much slower.

T. rex Madness Round 4: Fossil Specimen (Sue FMNH PR 2081) vs. Fossil Specimen (Rexy AMNH 5027)

Fossil Specimen (Sue FMNH PR 2081) – Arguably the most famous of all T. rex specimens. Discovered in 1990 through impressive luck and observation by the fossil’s namesake, Sue Hendrickson, Sue is also one of the best T. rex fossils, being 90% complete by bulk. Following a lengthy dispute over ownership, Sue was put up for auction, inciting fears that the fossil would end up in a private collection. With the help of various donors, Sue was purchased by the Field Museum in Chicago, and has been a fixture there ever since. Sue’s bones show signs of various injuries, including a parasitic infection in the skull. In 2018, Sue was moved to a new room at the Field Museum, featuring an updated assembly and an informational exhibit featuring the world in which Sue lived.

Fossil Specimen (Rexy AMNH 5027) – AMNH 5027, colloquially known as “Rexy,” has been a fixture of the American Museum of Natural History for over a century. Rexy was discovered in 1908 by Barnum Brown and was the first specimen to provide a complete skull and neck vertebrae, thus advancing our knowledge of T. rex. Besides its value to science and the museum, this specimen also served as the inspiration for the skeletal T. rex in the Jurassic Park logo, as well as the animated T. rex skeleton in the Night at the Museum series.

With the 2024 IMSA 12 Hours of Sebring heading into the closing laps, the AO Racing team works into the night to keep their N°77 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) on track towards a top ten GTD Pro finish.

A quick set of doodles I made based off an odd comparison I had made of Owl House and Jurassic World Dominion. As to explain further why this exists? Not caring of the unfortunate Hexsquad; Luz, Amity, Gus and Hunter, who are all caught in the middle between the two, as they circle. 3) Eda charges at Belos and is thrown into and impaled by the claws of Lilith.
