Virgin Voyages arrives in Australia!
Virgin Voyages has arrived in Australia! The line’s Resilient Lady, measuring in at 110,000 gross tons, made her inaugural call to Sydney on 4 December, and the ship certainly turned heads.
She may not be the biggest ship to arrive in Australia this season, but Resilient Lady certainly is one of the most novel. The ship is the third of four Virgin Voyages ships, built by Fincantieri and entering service in 2023.
The ship’s arrival was boosted by a visit by Sir Richard Branson, who in true Branson style, sailed out on a wooden-hulled motorboat to meet the ship as it made its way into Sydney Harbour.
Resilient Lady will be offering a series of cruises from Australian ports in the 2023/24 summer season. The ship features 1,404 cabins and suites, a maximum of 2,762 passengers – which Virgin call sailors, 1,150 crew members and can achieve 20 knots.
While striking on the outside thanks to their unusual grey-and-red design, the ships have turned heads internally with a variety of amenities and facilities that challenge the status quo of cruise voyages.
The adults only ship offers menus inspired by Michelin starred chefs in 20 eateries, a variety of wellness offerings both across the food and beverage options as well as in the spa complex, and an array of large-scale production shows that are both new in style and span a variety of locations – bringing the entertainment offering outside of the main show lounge.
Resilient Lady also features a Virgin records-style vinyl bar, a dedicated karaoke bar, numerous gaming lounges and a transformational entertainment space that can be reconfigured to suit a variety of show styles.
The ship will reposition to her Aussie home port of Melbourne in the coming days and kick off her season in Australia with a cruise to Tasmania.
The Big Cruise Podcast host Barry Downs will sail aboard the ship as a guest of Virgin in the coming days, so listen out for the upcoming episode.

"The material used to craft this bracelet is stronger than most - there are few blades in the nation that would be able to run it through with a single strike. With good coordination, you could fend off quite a few attacks like this...and then." She pushed down on the bracelet discreetly with her thumb, activating a mechanism that made a sharp dagger shoot out from the side of the plain-looking band.
"The blade is thin but incredibly sharp." She cautioned, showing Keran how to return the dagger inside the bracelet before handing her the gift. "For you, my dear friend." Wanning smiled. "I did make an additional one for Lady Aera as you asked, but...I would be ashamed to present her with something so...unsightly."
Wanning was right to feel embarrassed. House Yue was known for crafting and honing weapons. As useful as her gift was, it was truly one of the most hideous creations to ever come out of a Yue's hands. The metal was dull, slightly crooked, and in a grey color that would remind one of a rock on a rainy day. "Perhaps we could...paint this red and...decorate it with lace?" She offered and then laughed at the silliness of her own suggestion. No amount of effort could ever make this fashionable.
"Do you like it, Keran?" She asked eventually, eyes soft. "I hope you will never have to use it, but just in case."

I went out for easter lunch with my granddad and halfway through, two elder trans women- gray hair and canes and all-walked in, and I have spent probably the last hour crying on and off because they reminded me that we get to get old.
we get to live long, beautiful lives. we get to meet up with our life long friends for lunch at some little diner and talk about good times and how our families are doing. we get to sip on iced tea, and smile, and live
I ended up paying their bill, and I really wish I'd have gone up to talk to them. unfortunately I'm fairly shy with strangers, but I regret not saying hello.
but I hope they know, that everywhere they go, they glow like a neon sign lighting up a foggy path with the message that we get to live

a reminder that in my interpretation, rhea and da3mon had hurt each other an equal amount in their early years of marriage. this is not the case where one person has a particular power advantage over the other. to add to that, i do not think either of them raised a hand - although things may have been thrown, and they fought incessantly until they discovered that avoiding one another was best.

👁️ EYE - what colour are their eyes? do people notice their eyes? is there anything special about them (shows emotion easily, literally magical...)?
I can only really show you her eyes tbh BUT LUCKKLY I CAME PREPARED:
They’re like a galaxy pupil type deal with the coloured iris. Kala’s android eyes <333
Anyway I think it’s one of the things people first notice about her. They’re quite striking and they were a gift from one of the boys after a trip into town. :’)
🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?
She’s a moderately good liar. she doesn’t really try to lie, she’s not that kind of girl, but she can pull things off if she needs to. I think her tells are, like, she’ll get overly laissez-faire, her posture will get a little too loose and relaxed and she’ll talk very…animatedly? Like she’s trying to be overly nice or charming or whatever.
👻 GHOST - do they believe in ghosts? what are their "ghostly experiences", if any?
The desert can get very spooky at night so yeah. :/ she absolutely hates going out into the dark or being alone if it’s late on account of like little things she’s seen at the edge of her vision and the one time she swears the saw the ghost of santiago sitting in pa/nam’s chair.
💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?
I think Jade’s like, pretty even tempered and stable honestly? Maybe fear or true anger. Her hands start to shake and she gets super jittery and just freaked out when she’s really scared and I think she has a hard time calming down and quelling her flight response.
😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily?
I don’t think she really cries that easily. she wants to be one of the boyssss (even tho the boys would not mind if she cried for some reason. Awkward pats on the back.)
What does make her cry or at least tear up tho:
- Frustration tears when an expensive hard to get part breaks
- when she drops The Good Food
- Beau and/or Noah get very sad for some reason
- when chowder (her pet gecko) gets sick (she’s okay)
- a bittersweet romance novel
👊 PUNCH - are they quick to violence?
Not usually. I think very rarely her temper can flare bc she’s only human, but she’s generally pretty chill and collected. She just scoffs and walks away, hoping they don’t talk to her for the rest of the day.
💢 ANGER - what are some habits they have that will take some getting used to?
- She has the garage she likes to use in a permanent state of mess and disorganization but she understands it. Drives Beau crazy when he needs to use it too.
- Talks to herself often about anything, everything, and nothing
- IDK SHES JUST KINDA INNOCUOUS. She on that in my own little corner (cinder/ella 2013 cast recording) type shit
👪 FAMILY - what is their family like? what is your ocs relationship to them? does your oc have any siblings?
Her family was really good before [ava/tar voice] the raffen attacked. Her momma and dada were wiped out along with a few other members of the alde/caldos and it was very tragic obvs. The rest of the camp just kinda took her under their wing, especially cassidy. kind of a grumpy but kind uncle to her. :’)
She doesn’t have any siblings but she is quite close with Noah and Beau. Kind of a rascally little third wheel sister to whatever the fuck they have going on.
😨 FEARFUL - when scared, do they go into "flight" or "fight"?
I think she goes into flight first and tries to turn it into a fight response. She wants to be braver but she has a hard time with it. make peace not war :(((
she will swing on a bitch when she gets that response fixed tho be careful 🔧
💤 SLEEPING - do they fall asleep easily? what helps them sleep?
She sleeps fairly well tbh. Not a lot of nightmares or anything. Sounds of the breeze and crickets knock her ass out IMMEDIATELY. If she had more reliable access to the internet she’d be an ASMR girlie.

Currently crying in the club on a Wednesday afternoon over this journal entry from my mom’s camera roll
#mel’s musings#this is from my 15th birthday i think#and it fucks me up every time i read it. genuinely one of the most beautiful expressions of love i’ve ever seen put to words#our relationship was pretty tumultuous back then. it’s my main source of inspiration for how i write the conflict b/w denise and jen#of course the circumstances aren’t quite the same. for us it was my mom being ill-equipped to handle my executive dysfunction#on top of the usual teenage obstinacy. whereas for them they’re contending with the grief of their husband/dad’s disappearance#and their wildly different ways of responding to it is the primary source of conflict#but regardless. this really reads like a jen quote to me#and giving her and dena the resolution they deserve is even more cathartic now that my mom’s gone#our relationship recovered during my last semester of high school but it never really got to blossom#and giving them that chance where i lost it is a big source of healing for me. my beautiful resilient ladies they mean the world to me 🥺#forest for the tree
