Last night was my company Holiday Party, and we're doing really well, so it was held at the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston)
I was so happy that also included the Styled by Sargent exhibit, of John Singer Sargent paintings and the actual articles of clothing alongside them.
Now, you have probably seen this painting of Lady Macbeth
But have you seen the costume she's wearing??
It's gorgeous, obviously.
But that texture! It's *crochet*
And some knitting
Really simple crochet too; just a chain and single crochet lattice with beads and metallic thread added for this chain mail effect.
Despite John Singer Sargent being an expert painter of fabric (no, really, just look at it), I never knew Lady Macbeth's costume had to be *hand crocheted* for that texture in the painting.
Anyway I'm gonna be making myself some faux-chainmail by crocheting it for the next Renn Faire

i am thinking how much poorer, how much less colorful the world would be if art was only made by "professionals." if all the music, all the stories, all the sketches & paintings & craftwork of the world was created only by the small category of people able to make a decent living from their art. imagine if the only people allowed to create were the experts & the renowned & those aspiring to the top. what a grey world that would be. how much joy would be bleached away! i love you people who create for the sake of creating, i love you artists who do art for tiny audiences, i love you people who make things even just for one person, even just for themselves, even if no one's watching, thank you thank you thank you for decorating the world in which we all exist

Actually, I’m tired of hearing fiber arts be referred to as “grandma crafts”. I’m going to be honest, I think the association of “this is a thing only boring old people do” is bullshit. One; because older people are rarely genuinely boring. And two; I think it puts people off of learning these things.

Kickstarter for the Amigurumi Makers!
Hi everyone! Sorry for the absence of posts on this blog again 😅 I was laid off mid-Feb and all of my brain space has been reserved for refreshing my skills and job-searching, but hopefully I'll be back to work soon and then I can queue up some more posts here! (It takes me hours... I also need to find a better way to do that...)
ANYWAY
I wanted to make this post about a Kickstarter that I am incredibly excited about!!!
These Safety Eye Snappers that can be used to easily add safety eyes to your amigurumi without all the hand and finger pain!!!
As a chronic pain girlie myself, I started following this product the second I heard about it's existence lol
The kickstarter just went up so I wanted to mention it here for anyone who might be interested!
If you've never used Kickstarter before, please make sure you're informed about how it works! Research to your heart's content to make sure you're comfortable. The gist is that projects are all-or-nothing based on whether they reach their funding goal, so if you back a project that doesn't end up reaching it's goal, you don't receive any rewards you pledged for, but you also aren't charged anything.
As of writing this post, though, this Kickstarter looks to be fully funded!!!!
Note: I am not at all affiliated with this product or the team behind it, they have no idea of my existence, and I get nothing from any pledges anyone makes. I have not tried the product in-person myself at all. They don't know I exist. I'm just a girl who's incredibly excited about the existence of this product. Like I kinda wanted to cry when I found out about this because getting safety eyes on amigurumi is so hard and hurts so much :')
Here's the Kickstarter link again if you're interested, and I hope to get back to posting crochet patterns here soon! Hope you all are doing well! 💕💕💕🧶
