I never tire of this "class photo" of the Silver Age-version of the Justice Society of America by Murphy Anderson.

This was when the JSA was still respected by DC Comics. Things went downhill for the group after Crisis On Infinite Earths, when some members (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Robin) were erased from existence. DC then decided to remove most of the remaining members completely from the DC Universe with The Last Days of the Justice Society (1986).

The team was rescued from Limbo in Armageddon: Inferno (1991), but fans didn't get to celebrate long. During Zero Hour (1994) many of its members were killed off or aged to the point of incapacitation.

Of the members pictured above only Flash (Jay Garrick), Green Lantern (Alan Scott) and Wildcat are still active. Red Tornado 2 (the android, John Smith) has been retconned many, many times, but I believe in current continuity he/it was never a member of the JSA, but active with the Justice League.

The reservist roster (Cassandra Cain, Captain Marvel Jr., Lagoon Boy, Flamebird, and Beast Boy), as well as the 30+ heroes temporarily recruited to the team for the invasion of Zandia, have not been included as options.

I’m holding onto the hope that Danny’s still alive btw

And it scares me with how much pressure the bad guys put on him in 4x25 with maintaining the boomtube to the point of it collapsing, (and making multiple boomtubes in general), because Danny said the interdimensional powers are killing him, and his plan to help M’gann was “I can do it one last time”

I can only hope Motherbox is taking the brunt of the boomtubing and it’s not affecting Danny as much as it did for guiding to the Phantom Zone

When Black Lightning said “I swear we will do everything in our power to help you”, my thought was if they could find him a vessel to inhabit so he could live his life free from Apokolips, I really hope that’s still possible for him ;o;

Traya Sutton Justice League of America v1 #152 1978 DC Bialya native, war orphan Adopted by Kathleen “Kathy Sutton (Justice League of America v1 #106 1973 DC) and John “Reddy” Smith/Ulthoon - Red Tornado (II) (Justice League of America v1 #64 1968 DC) T.O. Morrow abducted the Red Tornado and with the help of Ivo and William Zard managed, over a period of months, to transfer Reddy's consciousness into an enhanced cloned Sportsmaster body Morrow had “appropriated” from the Council. When Reddy woke up in his new body Morrow exclaimed “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY BOY!” and let it be known he had chosen the Council clone specifically so it wouldn't violate any of John's self imposed morals. When Traya began having adventures with the other children of the Justice League Reddy and Traya overhauled the old Red Tornado chassis into a power-suit for Traya, because what father doesn't want to protect his daughter? Traya would then seriously piss off her mother and become Red Tornado (III). On Wayward Earth Reddy gets a bit of evolution with help from Adam Strange. Adam Strange and Ted Kord were archaeology students together (with Bruce Gordon), and theunbrilliant & Needham-Comics had this kind of awesome idea for New 52 Blue Beetle's SPARKY!, so one should have at least Traya, Aleea Strange, and Abby Kord as the basis for a Teen Titans along with the kids of Metamorpho, Animal Man, Black Lightning, and possibly Jason Blood.

These are characters who were either explicitly stated to be members of the JSA, or very involved with the team to the point that they're basically a member (mainly applies to Thunderbolt). Some are in a grey area due to retcons (such as Hippolyta) or were barely involved with the team, but they still count. Batman, Wonder Woman (Diana), Superman, and Robin have been excluded from this tournament to give other less popular characters a fair chance.

These initial matchups were made with a randomizer to be as fair as possible.

YJ fashion week 2024 february 12 - 18*

That's right! We're doing it again 🙌🙌 Time to dress up our favorite chaotic team in various outfits! ✨✨✨

Anyone is welcome to participate 💞

The themes by days:

Monday - What in your opinion is the worst outfit they ever wore / Dressed in someone else's from YJ style (basically outfit swap cause i'm a sucker for those. Can be hero outfit or civies)

Tuesday - Dressed to impress (looking very pretty, possibly formal wear) / Fairytale inspired

Wednesday - Cowboys and pirates / Haute Couture

Thursday - Ballet and other dances (basically outfits that are worn for professional dance. Yes, this includes ice dance/figure skating) / Uniform. Any kind, from anywhere.

Friday - Baby it's cold outside~ (outdoor wear, bundle up your blorbos and practice some sweet coat/jacket designs 💯💯💯) / Rolled out of bed and had 1 minute to dress themselves

Saturday - Video game outfits / Magical girls (a little bit of cheating on my part, i know, but i'd love to see more YJ magical girl designs)

Sunday - Futuristic, sci-fi style / free day

Rules (pretty much the same as last year) under the cut:

You must create a drawing or a sketch depicting at least one member of Young Justice dressed according to the chosen day's theme. The drawing doesn't have to be fully rendered or even coloured and can be done either traditionally or digitally (or via a secret third thing).

Each day has two themes you can choose from. There is no limit to how many drawings you can do and you can pick both themes if you want to.

The drawing or sketch may contain other characters that aren't part of YJ (or even DC), if you so choose, as long as at least one YJ member is present (and dressed for the theme. It is YJ fashion week after all).

Using reference is, of course, allowed and encouraged!

*If you wanna do all of the themes, the fashion week gets extended to two-three fashion business weeks. (12th february to 3rd march)

Participants are encouraged to share their art when it's done. I rly wanna see what you come up with ♥️

This apparently has no real Santas in it but I am COMMITTED at this point, have another Holiday Special fully reviewed. Next up is DC Holiday Special '09 #1.

It's always fascinating which characters make it into the specials. Reading these has reminded me that the war stories and the frontier stuff apparently has a bunch of fans - there's frequently Sgt Rock, Enemy Ace, Jonah Hex, etc.

Silent Knight - Batman. I am presuming DickBats chases a crook dressed as Santa and ends up in a warehouse of Santas. He identifies which is the crook, takes him out, and then is invited to what looks like a Santa Christmas Party.

Man of Snow - Superman. A kid makes a snow golem. This is one of the Hanukkah stories. Supes talks to the family and takes the kid flying.

The Flash Before Christmas - Flash. Family time story! Wally is very busy at Christmas with family and hero responsibilities (including fighting Killer Croc with Dick and Donna!) After the fight Dick and Donna twit Wally ('Linda got you a present, remember you have Raven in the Secret Santa') like the good best friends they are. (Also Wally accidentally gives the wrong gifts to Linda and Raven and has to emergency-switch them).

Also delightfully Wally keeps saying 'crud', presumably because he's working to avoid swearing with the twins at home.

The Christmas of Doom - Doom Patrol. Flashback story (Beast Boy is on Doom Patrol). Rita and Gar both hate Christmas. Rita and Steve make the offer to adopt Gar.

Party Gift - Superboy (Actually Match). This is unfortunately Bizarro!Match, who organises the Christmas Party for assorted Rogues Galleries.

Reason for the Season - Martian Manhunter. Another flashback story, it's J'onn as John Jones, police detective. J'onn learning about togetherness on Earth, as opposed to the Mars type.

Angel & the Ape - this has no title, and is just the two soliciting for holiday donations for kids' presents.

A Peace on Earth - Sgt. Rock. Sgt Rock runs into a German soldier on Christmas Eve 1944 (literally). They sit down and drink cognac and smoke cigarettes together, and discuss family and their fathers who both died during WWI. Then they both 'follow orders' to shoot on sight when encountering the enemy...by both firing into the air, before parting.

Stille Nacht - Enemy Ace. General Werner Dietrich wants an air assault on the English and French lines on Christmas Day 1914. Enemy Ace takes his squadron over the lines ready to bomb...only to see the Christmas Truce and refuses to bomb the mixed English-French-German troops singing carols together.

The Hunt for Christmas - B'wana Beast. So this is a bad guy character I didn't even know existed, who has been dead since 1992, and is an avatar of the Red (except he got resurrected in n52 because of course he did). That out of the way - our man here is hunting poachers in Africa and brings supplies stolen from them to a Christian Mission (all set to Light Shining out of Darkness by William Cowper).

Look. Decisions were made here. I really want to know who pitched this, and who approved it. The writer is Beau Smith, whose other writing credits include a lot of Guy Gardner: Warrior, and being co-writer on the Batman-Wildcat (which I adore for its 90sness) and Catwoman-Wildcat minis.

Home for Christmas - Captain Marvel. Billy is fighting Ibac and they realise they've knocked down a homeless shelter. Both having connections (Ibac's had a friend on the street; Billy's been homeless), Billy insists they need to rebuild the shelter, after which they agree to stop the fight for Christmas.

Unbearable Loss - Deadman. Boston saves a suicide jumper - Scarecrow's mother.

A Night Before Christmas Story - Red Tornado. Reddy is trying to find a present for Traya that is the IT gift that year, and is horrified by the venality of man when it comes to competing to get a low stocked toy.

He does manage to get the toy, but realises as Traya comes to cuddle in bed on Christmas morning the real present is family.

Naughty or Nice - Huntress. Helena stops a shop robbery, and contemplates what makes someone good deep inside.

Seeing the Light - Ragman. The OTHER Hanukkah story this issue, retelling the story.

Auld Lang Syne - Adam Strange. Adam's trying to get home for New Year's Eve but fighting crime keeps interfering.

Hey there! Been a while 😅

Let's just say I've been going through many different fandoms as of now. And unfortunately I'm not able to tell you all a lot about it. Sometimes because of school, mainly because I want to draw art of it first before posting about it. But I suppose since that's too slow, I'll simply drop down lore even without art. It's a quicker way to introduce the lore I've made.
