Okay, I am still thinking about Cass and Claire.
It's like: they both admire Batman and they came into Gotham as vigilantes because of that. Cass was searching for redemption. Claire was born of a reenactment of Bruce's tragedy, only one where he was able to stop the worst from happening. Claire doesn't have that life on her hands as a catalyst.
Then there is the deal they make: power for a life. Claire's powers use her life up when she wields them. Cass makes a deal with Shiva, in exchange for her previous capabilities, she will fight her to the death. To Cass, it is a death sentence because she refuses to kill. With Claire, I get the impression that she makes her deal as much because Hank does it. Because she admires her brother and follows his lead. But also she makes the decision because it gives her the ability to do more and to help more people. Cass makes her decision because she can not do what Batman does without it, but also because she can not stand to be less than what she was. To spend years relearning what once came so easily to her.
In a way, they both need to make that deal to fight alongside Batman.
Then there is there relationship with their coming death. I'm still working my way through Tom King's Batman, but Claire seems to me that she isn't thinking about her coming death. She feels young, a teenage who has an easy immortality. Death is a lifetime away even if it is closer to her than most. I think that if she did think about it, death would scare her though. Fear is a thread throughout her both in her part in her and her brother's origin, and then with Pyscho Pirate. Cass knows what death is. She knows what it looks like. It does not scare her, in fact, part of her wants it.
Finally, there's the way that they interact with Batman. Both of them are more powerful than him in their own way; they each have capabilities that he can never have, but the differences in the way he interacts with them is striking. Part of this, I'm sure, is due to differences in authors and the times of their introductions, but you can see some of this even in the comics where they run parallel to each other. Cass is far more isolated in her relationship with Bruce. It's focused entirely on her abilities as a crime fighter. In her Batgirl series, she doesn't learn his identity until she figures it out for herself. Bruce doesn't take her to the cave under Wayne manor, he gives her a satellite cave of her own.
After the incident with Psycho Pirate, Claire is brought back to the Batcave, and brought up into Wayne Manor. Part of that is likely due to the state she was in, but it doesn't change the fact that she is brought into the secret of Bruce's location and identity far sooner. This also is also likely because of there being less of a focus on secret identities in newer comics, but the difference is still striking.
Even in Cass's concurrent appearances in Detective Comics at that time, she doesn't have that same closeness to Bruce. She is on the team headed by Batwoman. While there is a sweet moment where Bruce is like "We should do something with Cass outside of vigilantism", the bulk of her connections are with her teammates and not Batman.
(Once again, different authors, the fact that Detective comics is more of an ensemble cast while Batman is more focused, changes to Cass's backstory etc etc. Still, I think the point stands.)
I also have thoughts about the idea that Bruce sees different parts of himself in each of them, different potentials for their parts in his legacy. Maybe it's simpler for him to connect with Claire in a more holistic manner due to her ordinary background, her relative innocence compared to Cassandra. When he starts separating Bruce Wayne from Batman, which part is better and which is worse? But, I need to think more about how to articulate that…

(FGO) What went wrong with Scheherazade
As people who have played FGO and Agartha have repeatedly complained, one of the characters that a lot of them tend to say was done wrong is Scheherazade. She was the Framing Device for A Thousand Nights, as a woman who was to be married to a cruel king and was used to tell 1000 stories that all ended on cliffhangers so that she could survive, but also spare the lives of future women since the king killed any that he married because of in-universe reasons.
Now because of such she’s normally seen as a pretty badass lady, who wins through guile and wit to beat the king/sultan that she was married to.
In FGO however, as a Servant (And implied slightly with her CE) she’s traumatised by the event of her life and now constantly fears death and is downright nuerotic about it. With an even further implication that in Fate she wasn’t spared and was actually killed after 1000 nights. It’s in her Bond Info if you want to check.
Now this is where people don’t like Schez, and in a way I can agree. However, I personally think that this is a neat change, simply because we get another Servant who’s life in the Throne of Heroes is fucked up because they became a Servant. Being summoned as one causing her to potentially face the very thing she spent her whole life trying to avoid, dying by a cruel king (Especially when you consider that most Mages in Nasuvers are ruthless pyschos). It’s a neat narrative way of showing that the Throne of Heroes and the Shadows of Humaniy inside them are still people/
So far as I can tell, the closest we get to Schez is Spartacus, and we’ll get to him later.
Now the main issue that I think comes from Schez isn’t just that now as a Servant she’s afraid of death. I think the main issue is that the made that fear a part of her comedy instead of her character and serious moments.
In Fate there are characters that often have funny haha moments with the bullshit that they went through in their lives.
Lancelot’s whole cheating thing, while people are somewhat sick of it, is treated as a funny sort of gag that people egg him on about. As such is Diarmuid’s own affair with Fion’s wife. Both of these are somewhat serious events, but the characters and the stories themselves try not to put too much weight on them so that when the joke happens it’s not completely jarring.
Compare and contrast that to Lancelot feeling like a traitorous asshole and Diarmuid’s genuine shame at non-intentionally betraying the trust of Fion, even though the events above are linked the feeling of this is treated as it’s own thing and further more are given much more weight. As such they don’t joke about it.
(Moriarty’s scene in Las Vegas with Lancelot is a good example of such a thing)
Now Schez is afraid of death, as one should be, but instead of that being a very strong or powerful part of her motivation as a Servant or a character, it ends up as a gag instead of actually something serious. The only time when it was serious, was when at the end of Agartha when she listed off how horrible it would be to continually live and die as a Servant, and even then it’s hard to take it seriously when they joke about it so much before hand.
Now could they still have make jokes about it? Well sure, look at Vlad III and how sometimes the story pokes fun at his desire to not be remembered as Dracula. But even then, especially in his Interlude, the make it so that it’s moments of levity amongst a serious topic that he’s talking about rather than it being the but of the joke.
Instead of:
“Haha Vlad doesn’t want to be Dracula.”
It’s:
“Vlad is so serious about not wanting to be seen as Dracula, haha look at some of the things he did because of it.”
The motivation is not mocked, but the actions taken are made somewhat humorous.
Now I brought up Spartacus before, and I think that he’s a good example of this happening much sooner. He was a gladiator slave that lead a rather famous revolt, but eventually died betrayed by the pirates that he hired to get away sadge.
But as a result he was considered a Hero and could be summoned. BUT, the best thing about him is that he’s so afraid of being summoned by a Cruel Master that would be the same that treated him like a slave, that he would rather be summoned as a Berserker with zero-to-none mental capacity just because he hates the chance of being a slave again. He would rather be rememebered as this flailing madman, instead of the charismatic hero leading the slaves that he freed. The Throne of Heroes absolutely fucks him up, and he does all he can to counter such events.
In Apocrypha Spartacus was nothing as a character, he shouted about Oppressors but did nothing about the Humonculus that was breed and made to serve the black team, had no words properly with Amakusa who was a famously persecuted Christian in Japan, and died before he could run into what Avicebron did to his loyal student/follower.
His whole thing, while given a serious backstory, was not used at all and just seemed like he was there to be a raging object or obstacle. Not of his motives were really talked about, besides the barest of hints, and his ‘Death to Oppressors’ just seemed like things that were slapped on, rather than an actual character.
This was made worse in FGO when most of the time it’s used as a Joke. Spartacus would scream Oppressors at nothing, he would say it to nonsensical things and would come off as an idiot rather than anything else. It causes it to become:
“Haha Spartacus hates Oppressors.”
And it’s why Lostbelt 3 is where he managed to shine, because of the fact that LB3 actually looked at the motives of Spartacus and wrote a character with motivation. To stop not only oppression, but to help the little guys that would need it. He has an actual conversation about his thought process with the civilians, with Chaldea, with Goredolf. He gives a full on reason that is understandable, to him at least, about how and why he can defect. And when he’s faced with the largest form of oppression given.
And best of all he backs up his words by going against the big man (Qin Shi Huang) even sacrificing his ‘Not being treated as a Servant’ Rule because he wants to protect not only you but the people in the village. This is the guy, who if the material is to be believed, would take TWO Command Seals to just stop him from running. And he’d probably get his movement back to just decapitate you on the spot the moment you enter in his range.
Again there are moments of levity, but they come from his Berserker status as oppose to just his reasons. It becomes:
“Spartacus really hates Oppressors, haha look at some of the things he does.”
It’s why instead of him leading the village towards the Lostbelt Chinese army feels less like a joke, but more of a serious moment that he went to because of his motives.
Scheherazade doesn’t have that. Besides Agartha, her fear of death is played as a joke all of the time, and that kills what mights be a fun part of her character and how that explore how she and others might feel about it.
But as it stands now, instead of:
“Scheherazade really hates dying, haha here’s some of the things she said/done to avoid it.”
Right now, Schez is:
“Haha, Scheherazade is afraid of dying.”

Hi! I love BMO so much. I was wondering how you chose the halloween costumes for each of them. I think Levi going for the same costume each year was so in character lol. Looking forward for the next update!

I tried to think of what everyone would do realistically on Halloween and what suited them, and made little backstories in my head to fit...
Mike - Big kid #1
Does couple costumes with Nanaba every year. There's always that one guy at Halloween who looks out of place in a costume but couldn't give a shit because they're having fun. A man as tall as Mike in a tight revealing Peter Pan costume is funny and brave. He loves it because Levi hates it.
Nanaba - Big kid #2
Usually picks the couple costume for herself and Mike. Some years, for het fictional couples, Nanaba likes to dress as the man and Mike as the woman. But this year Mike wanted to be Peter Pan so she was Tinkerbell to fit. I see her as very pixie-like in general (probably because of her haircut lol)
Hange - Big kid #3
Goes all out for Halloween every year. Spends too much money making extravagant costumes that she only wears once. Really enjoys being able to experiment with costumes and feels 100x more confident at Halloween than other holidays. Hange was channeling her heritage as Meg from Hercules and honestly she would make a sexy af drop dead gorgeous goddess statuesque Meg. Meg is her favourite disney princess, followed by Mulan, then Belle. Her mum made her dress up as Princess Jasmine when she was younger and Hange's hated Jasmine ever since.
Marie - Make Up Guru
Loves dressing up and playing with costume makeup, and will spend money on new costume make up every year. Likes couple costumes because they're sweet. Went all out to be Harley Quinn
Erwin - Indifferent
Does whatever Marie wants as he doesn't have time to put together a costume himself, let alone think about it. Is lucky to have her arrange everything for him. Let's Marie apply make up and do his hair. Doesn't care what he looks like. Thinks adults who dress up are adorable. He really loves getting to eat sweets at Halloween and goes to the supermarkets to buy discounted sweets when Halloween is over. I made him the Joker because of the ~vibes~. and so levi could call him a pyscho.
Levi - The Hater
He only dressed up one year on the advice of a counsellor (have fun with your friends, you might even enjoy it!!!). He googled 'vampire costume' because it's basic af. He copied the resulting image from Interview with the Vampire, but had no idea it was from a film. Enjoys shopping for suits, so he spent a fortune on the outfit. The concept of adult's dressing up pisses him off. He didn't understand why it made everyone so happy when he dressed up for the time. He cares enough about his friends to carry on dressing up every year, but not enough to buy a new costume. I just wanted an excuse to make him wear a cravat and frilly shirt cos its sexy af.
Nifa - The Inbetweener
Every year she gets torn between having an extravagant nerdy costume and a pretty costume. Usually goes for something in between, so Blossom from Powerpuff Girls.
Oyankonpon - Clueless #1
Thought Halloween was an American thing and assumed Hange was joking when she told him she was going to put cobwebs all over her flat. He bumped into Moblit in the stairwell before the party and was given a pirate eyepatch. Apparently, it was for his own good.
Moblit - Clueless #2/Sad Idiot
Only started dressing up for Halloween when he met Hange. He intended to dress up for the party but genuinely forgot. He picked up a pirates eyepatch and a pair of cat ears (as an emergency backup) from the petrol station for £1 each out of guilt and shame. Moblit bumped into Oyankopon in the stairwell and felt sorry for him. He knew Oyankopon would suffer Hange's wrath if he showed up without a costume, so he sacrificed himself and gave Oyankopon the eyepatch, leaving the cat ears for himself.
Oluo - Clueless #3/Hater
Dislikes Halloween and hadn't worn a costume since he was a kid but he overheard Nanaba and Petra discussing couple costumes at work and decided to surprise Petra. He had to google The Little Mermaid and was thrilled to see how low-effort Prince Eric was. He didn't know Levi was dressing up and would have gone to more effort if he knew. He was severely embarrassed when they laughed at him. it almost ruined the night but he got over it by drinking punch.
Petra - Fashionable Costumes Only
She's the type who doesn't mind dressing up with her friends, but doesn't get fully invested because it's a bit too silly and she wants to look good for instagram. Prefers to wear costume inspired outfits over full on costumes. Hence the low key Ariel.

52. Psycho Pirate (and Deegan) in „Crisis on Infinite Earths“ (Batwoman / The Flash / Supergirl)
That one was actually puzzeling. At the end of „Elseworlds“ they did tease „Crisis on Infininte Earths“ and had Deegan and Psycho Pirate becoming friend or something like that. Now, Psycho Pirate was the one Barry was supposed to be fighting in 2024 before he vanished in the latest version of the Newspaper before the date changed to 2019. There cleary was a reason behind introducing Pyscho Pirate during „Elseworlds“ and teaming him up with Deegan. The really strange thing is that neither of those two men ever showed up during Crisis. They didn’t even show up on „Batwoman“ under different cicumstances. So there was this big tease, that lead to nothing. But what was it supposed to lead too? Well it is resasonable to assmue that Psycho Pirate and Deegan were suppodes to be in Crisis, when they were originally planning the Event. There was a Subplot about villains teaming up in the Comic Version, so I assume this was the beginning of that, but the idea was dropped when the Crossover became too big and too many guest stars, who actually were willing to make an appearance, were collected. It is still very strange that neither Deegan nor Psycho Pirate ever showed up again after „Elseworlds“. They could have resolved that scene in „Batwoman“ prior to Crisis or somewhen in „The Flash“. If the whole „Barry is vanishing“-Storyline is not gone, at least Psycho Pirate could come back for it, I guess. But we have no newspaper anymore and no date, so I assume Crisis was it and Eric Wallace is not picking up that storyline again, but I could be wrong there.

More spoopy movies to watch this season.
In recent years there have been a few movies about Halloween hauted theme parks gone pyscho... The basically identical movies Hell fest and Bloodfest from last year, The Houses October Built 1 and 2 and very recently Haunt (which not to sutely homages many straight to VHS era movies), Heck Haunt has a costume that must be homaging Hack O Lantern and several scenes are directly takes on the incredibly titled Hauntedween.
This is definatly not knew and the home made spook house turned horror is really a centre piece for American backyard film makers.
Hallows End (2003) A near zero budget flick about college kids taking a job to run a community hauted house but what do you know some one brought the necronomicon. When part of the book is read many people become the costumes they are waering... friends become zombies and vampires oh a killer pirates too.
Dark House (2008) A fairly slick film with Jeffery Combs released by Fangoria is about a new state of the art haunted house attraction with state of the art holograms that get taken over by real house and turn this slightly House on Haunted Hill on everyone.
Asylum of Terror (1998) Also near zero budget and young adults building a large theme haunted house in an old insane asylum where one crazy stayed behind and is changing costumes with the theme parks actors. Nice saw action.
Very similar as well to as I mentioned Hauntedween (1991) which has the classic slasher cliches of flashbacks of a child witnessing a terrible accident the jumping to present day young adults being killed by a mystery man in a mask and cover alls. This sets the images of amusement halloween actors being killed on stage to a crowd as they shout “Stop laughing, this is real, get help, he is really killing us” . Its an image used in horror longer then I could imagine but really set a trend on low budget horror movies souly about that.
Movies like Funhouse and Terror Circus are basically the same but a cheao haunted house with a killer in it can be done even cheaper when your trapped inside a warehouse made into different rooms. Think how easy that would be to film by just putting different sheets up in your apartment to make it seem like different gimmicky rooms.
Todds Sheets Nightmare Asylum (1992) is just that in a story about a girl that sneaks into a contemmed people full of mental patients that live there and basically all think they live in a murderous alice in wonderland world,

twd thoughts and on 8x09. (carl fans, dont read this.)
“Make it real” /premise
-twd spoilers and twd comic spoilers.
me as a fan, im just like in the middle of being faithful of the show rn and being a passionate fan who quits. idk yet. but i will someday. that’s how being a fan of anything happens.
i know it’s all unpopular opinion but the way the writers did it, Carl’s death does make sense storywise, and it’s like very moving in what writers were thinking.....with the future, Henry, and Carl. And Negan.
ok, Carl’s ‘future’ dream I think is what comic-Rick had thought about during AOWar-rebuilding ASZ better than before, and why he didn’t kill Negan (because that’s uncivilized). I really liked that part and it’s interesting how the TV writers took that and made it really special like. Carl, wow a what young man and a hero.
And it was during AOW and making it some new premise for TWD/Rick to make Carl’s dream real and setting it up for “The New Beginning”. I think that’s a good premise or for me, imo. I noticed Skybound ...were also thinking Carl took comic-Andrea’s death. I think so too and I also think TWD show did the’ comic-Andrea’s death’ better. Well because I feel there was meaning and something that forwards to the story. In the comics during whisperer war, comic-Andrea died but I felt like nothing special happened afterwards, storywise. But it’s probably too soon to say because it’s very recent in the comics and it’s not done. ( i just realized Carl died like tv Andrea and comic Andrea. He even mentioned prison time-s3 and how they went back to ‘living’ in s4)
So it’s like TWD show writers wanted that comic-Andrea death to happen, and Gimple thought it would fit with Carl and during AOW. Well Gimple said he wanted something to make (more?) sense to have Rick change his mind and not kill Negan and prisoned him (and then Negan’s redemption. I’m guessing because of Carl’s death). I liked that it’s during AOW because it’s after the war, it’s the “New Beginning” and we see a lot of changes, goodness, and success kind of thing.
I know that Carl is very important to the story and it was like he died for Negan to live (and Michonne?) kind of thing. Like that’s dumb writing, short term plan-writing...why do the writers want to do the comic-Andrea’s death anyway? Or why not have Father Gabe or any moral compass character to die in 8x09. But I think the show can still work, IMO and that it doesn’t seem to be like destroying the show completely or disrespecting the show and character. (like omg twd fandom is so lucky and stuff. I know I have unpopular opinion but fans that give up ..like u guys are lucky in a way that you’re not alone and the media agrees. k. As a Neal fan in OUAT ..it was so shitty on how they did it and the majority didnt care. I guess it depends on a fan and any situation. Like with Star Wars TLJ-that I feel mad on what they did. But I’m still faithful to TWD so far.) But, IMO, I also feel that TWD show still works for me because it had two premises but one premise-Rick’s show is that is more where we are at and he’s still the main character. In the comics, Carl isnt a leader yet. The show’s ending soon sorta so..it’s all Rick’s show. I think even if Carl still lives in the show, I think it’s still Rick’s show just because how long the show is and I think soon the show will end. (Cast leaving, BTS drama stuff).
However with the whole death is like why did happened? sigh. it’s also like why the tv writers care about comic-Andrea’s death ..to add it. Idk. But Gimple wanted a good reason to add in the story of Negan not dying but prisoned and perhaps anything that grieving sad comic-Rick will make sense and to adapt from comics be about tv-Carl for tv-Rick (instead of tv-Michonne?). Well I just like the TV version better it makes it the war and sadness, more deserved when we see the “The New Beginning.” Comic-Andrea’s death didn’t change ..much storywise. idk.
Idk if it’s correct but Kirkman didn’t plan to do the time-jump at first. He wanted to show how ASZ and other communities rebuild and everyone being happy. But, Michonne is sad and that kind of story is like long and not dramatic ...so he just went for a timejump. (Michonne Telltale game). I guess I’m saying the tv show made the timejump mean something and more special like.
Another thing about how the show is like not ruined completely for me is because they respected Carl (hero of ASZ) and ..I think of the premise. I think it’s about Rick. It’s interesting so far imo that we see a plot of a father losing everything. (rare plot) I think the old premise works well with the new one. At first Rick wants to save his son, and now he’s making Carl’s dream real and be a better man for Carl.
Yeah i know it’s still sucky. Like why does the show keep killing major characters? idk. So if the show keeps sucking and all, I would just think TWD ended in s7 finale. S9 is gonna crazy. Huge change again. Kang as showrunner & Gimple chief..maybe she changes things up for the better, same, or worse. Idk maybe we’ll have a small main cast and stick with them like most shows do. Better dialouge and more interactions from our faves/ladies. idk.
Anyways, I still think the writing is done well or s4-8- as usual. (They can always be improved.) I really like how Carl’s death was like uplifting..hopeful like. But, yeah I’m still like why Carl? He’s the future the heart of the show..but ok..it’s Rick’s show.
sigh. I was confused why have the Kingdom group plot but OMG the ending. Wow idk what you call it. Parallels/contrasts between what Carl said about living and doing what’s right, with clips of Morgan going crazy to protect a/for a kid, to Henry doing what Carl was like in s3 in, killing Gavin. I’m wondering what will happen to Henry. Will he be featured more and have the ‘psycho killer’ comic-Carl parts or is he a character that pushes Morgan to be in FTWD(comic Michonne pirate arc, I think). Idk Henry got potential for future plots. If Henry becomes one of the recurring characters, he could be like “Carl 2.0″ but I mean he got that comic-Carl pyscho parts that I think tv-Carl doesn’t really have..he’s more like a better man ..more compassionate. idk. Ofc, we don’t care as much for Henry but, I think Carol and Henry might have some future plot later on.(like Michonne and Elodie?) idk. I miss Carick... Carol with Team family.

I am interested in after the timejump but who knows if different medium works well or not and how the writers do it. Plus other BTS changes too. so idk. I just wanna see everyone what they are like and they look like after the timejump. Also, this reminds me how ..well some annoying parts of the show may still continue..because of what Kirkman wrote and stuff. Like I think there’s more main characters separated far apart. etc.
uh basically, I think we just want to know what’s the endgame and feel sure when the show ends. Right now I feel like it’s hard to be faithful and excited about the show when the show is old, cast going away, BTS drama, and we don’t know the ending .. or what kind of ending. Story ending naturally or when AMC ends it with Negan and Daryl show. sigh.
