IT'S HAPPENING!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!! eVeRy oNe StAy CaLm??
POST TQN || Set 9 years after TQN (Jude and Cardan should be around 27/28 and 28/29 respectively) (From what I got, the things that happened in TWK and TQN were 2 years long? The story started with Jude being 17 so if it was 2 years then she'd be 19 by the end of TQN. Cardan is supposed to be a year and a half older so he should be around 20 yrs old.)
Description: This is me saying sorry for this fanfic ;) Synopsis: Jude Duarte thinks she is poisoned. She feels sick? It must be the poison. She eats more? It must be because the poison made her weak. She missed her period? Yeah, must have been the poison. Was she poisoned? You guessed it! No! Word count: 1, 172
Tumblr media
Currently, the High King of Elfhame is showing his generosity. Honeysuckle wine is being unsparingly distributed through the revel. The floral-honey smell of the wine was pleasant that said, the Queen found the aroma too sweet for her liking. From afar Jude Duarte sees her husband talking to Lord Roiben of the Court of Termites. Their expressions leaving no hint of the matter they are talking about. "Sir Fand." She calls to the blue skinned pixie. "Yes, my Queen?" The pixie answered, not a second wasted. "Check on the girl who tasted my wine. If she's unharmed, inspect my glass. Do your best not to disturb the revel." The female knight immediately left to do as she is told. Suspicion plagued Jude's mind. Fae are still trying their luck at killing her. Going at her neck when they can. The High Queen starts to feel nauseated. She put her elbow onto the handrest of the throne, resting her head on her palms she closed her eyes. Jude Duarte dislikes feeling weak in any way. She especially detests it when she does not know why she feels like such. Why did she even stop mithridatism? If she hadn't, she would feel normal now. Notice nothing of the poison. Good as new. As comfortable as an infant in a cot. "Jude? Are you alright? You don't look well." She heard a voice say from behind the throne. She does not recognize it but assumes it is Liliver. "I am well. It just seems to me that the revel is a bit... Spirited." The Queen remarked, keeping her eyes closed, brows furrowing. The creatures in the festivity became too talkative for the Queens approval. She'd like to make merry some more, with the ache of her body and the noisiness however, she found it hard to do. Letting their subjects see their Queen sitting down on the throne with a scowl would ruin the entertainment they are having. Though it might as well be an excuse the Queen tells herself, to avoid disclosing the fact that she finds warming the throne tiring. "I'm heading to our chambers." She stood up, almost falling from the sudden movement. Reflexes acting fast, she catches herself by leaning onto a firm object behind her. "Let me offer some help, Your Majesty." The current Grand General, Grima Mog, supports her Queen by her arms. Thank you. Even after many years spent in Elfhame, the Queen can't seem to let go of the mortal habit she had picked up. Luckily, she felt too sick to even move her mouth more than a small crack. Only managing a nod in reply to the redcap. How surprising... Cardan hasn't noticed..? ~~~~~
"I hope you don't mind my dishonoring the title of High Queen." Jude says as she gets helped onto the mattress. "I do not min-" "It wouldn't please me for word to reach the ears of the Fae." She says now looking in the eyes of the green skinned Folk in front of her. It isn't that the Queen does not trust her General. It is only that in the world of Faeries, such words are more powerful than any intimidation. It reminds her of that phrase she saw on Heather's shirt once... 'Sorry not sorry' was it? Grima Mog shows a teethy grin to the mortal she serves. Jude Duarte smiles at the redcap who aids her. "Do call Tatterfell for me." "Yes my Queen." The General bows to Jude before heading out. Jude relaxes into the cushions, laying down and closing her eyes again. She tries to recall what made her tired -- She hadn't done much today -- She woke up, got ready, ate, attended a few meetings, prepared for the revel, ate, drank wine, and now she's back in their chambers. She was only seventeen hours through her day... But then again she hasn't been able to get an adequate amount of sleep for the last couple of days. Did I ingest the poison a few days ago? She thinks. I did miss my period... But that might be caused by my meager amount of slumber. "Lassie. What do you think you're doing, being in such a scandalous position?" Jude opens her eyes, immediately seeing the elder imp. Her debt to Madoc had ended yet she stays with Jude. It makes the High Queen smile. But then she notices the position she is in; legs wide open, golden skirt gathered on her thighs, arms splayed. Suddenly, she feels not so great of a Queen. Warmth rushing to her cheeks she stands up, slowly making her way to the vanity.
Tatterfell brushes the Queen's hair, removing the horns, and brushing her cascading, currently, very curly hair.
"Would you like to bathe?" The imp makes eye contact with Jude through the mirror. Jude nods. Tatterfell frowns. "You should've said so earlier then. You might be the High Queen but you have to learn to consider the work other have to do." The imp walks over to the door calling for somebody to prepare the bath for the Queen, quickly. Jude chuckles. The Fae had become closer to her than she had expected. She presumes maybe the imp also started to feel attached to her, being more talkative and all.
When Tatterfell comes back she helps the Queen out her golden dress. Feeling the roughness of the imps hand became a very familiar sensation for Jude. Almost as familiar as Cardan's.
Cardan... Has Cardan not noticed my withdrawing from the revel? It displeased her to think such thoughts. Why? Why has he not noticed? Has being married for so long caused him to tire of her? Had she kissed him too many times?
...Wow... The High Queen of Elfhame saw her naked form on the mirror. She shone like a star, literally. Her skin glowed and even now as she felt tired, her eyes gleamed. She felt beautiful, looked beautiful. "Your Majesty, the bath is ready." An attendant announced from behind the door. Tatterfell and Jude headed to the bath. When she sunk into the pleasantly temperate water she instantly felt her limbs relax. Being in the same position she once was as Madoc's mortal bastard, she felt nostalgic. "You smell different, child." Had Tatterfell not commented such, maybe now the Queen would be crying from sentimentality. "How so?" Jude asked the imp, holding her legs closer to her chest. She felt sudden shyness washing over her. Was she foul-smelling? She bathed pretty often though... "Oh, don't act like that." Tatterfell removed her hands from the Queen's hair. "You smell very much of life was what I supposed." The imp continued applying fragrant oils to her hair. Relief glided through Jude's body. ... Huh? "Life? What do you mean?" She turns back to face the imp. Confusion evident in her features. "I meant what I said. Think of it as you will." Subsequently, the Queen does just that. Pondering about what smelling of life implies for the last few minutes she spends in the bath.

things I wanna see in the prisoners throne/a future TFOTA book :
Taryn’s child - We know she had a son called Leander and going by the timeline he should be about 7 or 8 years old so I want to know what sort of character he is and if he’s going to be like a mini Locke (hopefully a nicer version 💀)
Eva and Justin backstory - I want to know the love story between Eva and Justin and the bargain that Justin made with grimsen (I don’t see enough people talk about this like what did he want and was it to do with Jude and Taryn??)
Eva and Asha backstory - I feel like the tfota fandom seem to ignore the fact that Cardan’s mother and Jude’s mother were best friends 😭 I want to know about what they got up to because they were said to be besties always together causing trouble (sounds a lot like their children)
The bomb and the roach - I want to know the details of their “relationship” and if they ever properly got together and how they’re doing in the court of shadows 🥹
Flashbacks of Oaks childhood - we NEED to know what he got up to in his teenage years to turn up the way he is cause I just know that he needs therapy 😭😭
Badass Wren - I loved her in the stolen heir and I can’t wait for her to put everyone in their place she deserves her revenge for everything that happened to her (although if she touches Jude and Cardan I will sue)
Tiernan and Hyacinthe - I want these two to have a happy ending and forgive each other 😭 the tension between the two of them drove me insane
A big fight scene with our queen jude - I just NEED a duel scene with jude… the last time we got that was the queen of nothing with grima mog and any scene with jude in a duel is *iconic*
Grima Mog - I want to know what happened to her and if she’s remained grand general ? if she has I want to see her and Jude’s relationship because the first time they met they tried to kill each other but at the end of qon they become each others biggest supporters
Nicasia and the undersea - even though nicasia is horrible she is still a very interesting and iconic character + we know there’s a war beneath the waves and her and her mother have become weak so I want to know whats going on there and if she’ll ask for help from Jude and Cardan
The royal council - if we go back to elfhame I want to see these guys and how they co-operate with Jude and Cardan as their leaders 😭
Madoc, Oriana, Vivi, Taryn, Jude, Oak reunion - we started the trilogy with this family and I think it should end with this family reunion because the last time we saw them Vivi, Taryn and Jude cut contact with Madoc and possibly Oriana (what we know) but Oak still stayed close with them? What’s the relationship like with the Duarte sisters and have Jude and Taryn resolved their differences?
Madoc and Jude - I want to see more of this father daughter relationship especially after madoc’s exile and find out if he still wishes to kill her or take the throne from her
Heather - is heather still dating Vivi and does she know about elfhame again?
AND OF COURSE MARRIED JUDE AND CARDAN - what have these two been up to since we last saw them? how is married life between the two of them? how is their relationship going? Are they affectionate with each other in public? How protective are they of each other and the big question… is Jude pregnant? The theories circulating around her being pregnant have been driving me insane because there are so many pointers to her being pregnant and if she is with child, then she should be early within in her pregnancy because oak would have noticed her stomach…
Anyway that’s it 💅

Eva Duarte ran from Madoc, that fact is constantly mentioned throughout the books, but no one ever dwells on the fact that she left her kids behind with the guy who just killed their dad. everyone is like "oooh Madoc killed the Duartes, what a horrible violent bastard" but no one mentions Justin was the one who tried to kill him first. Jude ultimately decides she doesn't wanna know if her parents killed a pregnant human girl or not during their escape from Elfhame, and it paints better than anything the fact that no matter how much she imagines her bad parts as a product of Elfhame, her human parents were clearly not totally pure either. and yet Madoc talks about both of them with such tenderness, only mentioning their accomplishments and virtues. I am so so so curious about wtf went down between those 3 in Elfhame you have no idea

SIMS 4- Bookstan Legacy Challenge
General Rules:
It’s a 10 generation legacy based on the characters and books;
Of course, spoilers from the books and sagas (Divergent, Folk of Air, Harry Potter, Magisterium, The Hunger Games, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Heroes of Olympus,  Caraval, Once Upon a Broken Heart, Princess of Ash, Red Queen and The Maze Runner) are going to exist, you can skip the generation if you haven’t read the book;
If you are going to skip a generation, you can read the “Next Gen. Preparation” section of the generation you are skipping and swap it with the main “Next Gen. Preparation” section to be prepared for the generation you want, not the one you ignore;
Cheats are allowed for storytelling only;
Mods are also allowed, (for this challenge I recommend mcc command center, fairies x witches and maybe extreme violence);
The genders does not need to be the same as the character;
Not all the aspiration, skills and careers need to be max out, it will be tagged when you need and when you don’t
The worlds tagged in are only suggestions, you can change it;
Feel free to change the rules if you don’t have the necessary pack or for any other reason;
Generation 1 - Tris Prior (Divergent):
        Your parents are simple and altruistic people. Perfect examples of Abnegation, your faction. But, you're not like that, you're different, you're divergent. When your time comes, you choose Dauntless as your faction, and become a new person, a stronger person.
Traits: Proper; Perfectionist and Adventurous (they represent the three factions you could belong to as a divergent);
Aspiration: Fisiculturist (before the change to Dauntless, must be Friend of the World, but you don't need to complete it);
Career: Militar;
Skills: Fitness;
World: Willow Creek (there´are 5 regions in Willow Creek, each one could be one of the factions, but that's totally optional, only for immersion and storytelling);
Other Rules:
Start as a teenager girl or younger;
Must have a brother;
Until you´re a YA, you must never look in the mirror and use gray colored and simple clothes
When you became a young adult, you should leave to Dauntless (now you can wear every clothes you want)
Complete the aspiration and maximize the fitness skill;
Must be betrayed somehow by your brother;
Next Gen. Preparation:
Sleep with an fairy a single night (you can use a spellcaster, vampire, use mods to create a fairy or only simulate it) and get pregnant;
Marry a human and have twins (one of then will be the heir, you can cheat for it)
Be murdered, as well as your partner, by the fairy you slept with, when the twins become toddlers;
Generation 2 - Jude Duarte (Folk of Air):
        Your parents were murdered by a mythical sim that kidnaps you and your siblings. You discover that your older sibling is a fairy, descendant from the guy that kidnapped you. He creates you to be a warrior, but a certain cruel prince torment your whole life. You wanted so much to be a soldier, but that is denied to you, so you become a spy;
Traits:  Self-Assured, Loner, Genius;

Career: Secret Agent and Politician (don't need to max it);
Skills: Motor (child), Charisma;
World: Tartosa (the habitants must be fairies);

As a YA, enter in a club of spies called Marauders, with only 3 other sims, they will be your only friends;
When the cruel prince/princess become the king/queen, become your meneschal (enter in politician career)
Fall in love with bully, now a king/queen;
Be exiled
Marry the wicked king, and become the ruler of the fairies realm;
Next Gen. Preparation:
When your only baby is born (he must me a spellcaster) run of Tartosa and go to another world;

Generation 3 - Harry Potter (Harry Potter):

Summary: Jude Duarte wants a distraction from finals and the mess that was her breakup with Locke. She hooks up with her long-time school rival, Cardan Greenbriar, at a nightclub and gets more than she bargained for.
Warnings: Language, NSFW, Mentions of Abortion, Mentions of Child Abuse
Notes: Just FYI, all the baby info and doctor things are based of what info I was able find on google.
-----
Today was the day.
Monday.
She just had to get through her only class today and then she could get her answers. Although she was pretty sure she already knew. What was the chance of getting three false positive pregnancy tests?
Jude waited in line at the coffeehouse near campus. There weren’t many customers at the moment, the morning rush was over but there were still some customers in the shop. She recognized a couple of customers she had seen around campus, most of them students and a couple of other regulars, she normally saw when she stopped here.
When she spotted the magazine stand, she bent over to take a copy of this week's edition of People, without getting out of the line. It was the frontpage that had caught her attention, Dain Greenbriar attends fundraiser with Swedish bombshell . She thought back to the story Cardan told her about Balekin. How he would hit Cardan with a belt. Had Dain been aware of what Balekin had done to the youngest Greenbriar? Had he tried to get Cardan out of Balekin’s house? Or had he known and simply continued to let Cardan stay with a physically abusive caretaker? If one could even call Balekin a caretaker.
“Next.” The barista called out from behind the counter. Jude looked up and smiled at the sight of her favorite barista and fellow student, Fand.
Jude walked up to the counter. “Morning, Fand.”
“Good morning, Jude.” Fand cheered from behind the counter. “Don’t you look lovely this fine morning?” Fand’s eyes raked over Jude’s outfit. She wore a navy silk top with small buttons down the front and narrow straps, a pair of white jeans and light brown boots. She had piled her auburn curls on top of her head in a messy knot, then thrown on a pair of oversized sunglasses, in case she would cry more later.
Which she probably would.
“Thanks.”
“What can I do for you today?”
“Cappuccino to go and the magazine.”
“Got it.” Fand chirped, and started tapping away on the screen.
“Wait.” Jude said after a moment, stopping the barista in her tapping. If she really was pregnant, which all signs pointed to, then she shouldn’t be drinking caffeinated coffee. “Can you make it decaf?”
Fand’s brows furrowed looking up at her but nodded her head nonetheless and started tapping on the screen. “Alright, decaf cappuccino to go.”
After getting her coffee, Jude walked out of the coffeehouse and slowly made her way towards University of Elfhame. She was almost at the building where her class took place, when her phone started to ring. Slowing her pace on the sidewalk, Jude fished her phone out of her back pocket.
Madoc.
He had called a couple of times during the weekend as well, but she hadn’t answered. Normally she would pick up without a second thought but given her situation, maybe it would be better if she called him back after the doctor’s appointment.
“You know, normally you either pick up or decline the call.” Jude jumped at the sound of Cardan’s voice, and dropped her phone. He grimaced and bent over to pick up her. “Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.”
Luckily the screen or camera lense had not broken, but it was no longer ringing. “No it’s fine. You just startled me.”
“Do you need to call them back?” He gestured to her phone and gave her a smile. “I can wait.”
“It was Madoc.”
Understanding spread across his features. “Oh.”
“Yeah, he’s called like 4 times this weekend. And I know that I will have to call him back at some point, but right now I just want to get through this class and get to the appointment.” She brought the paper cup to her lips and took a sip in hope of swallowing the knot in her throat.
Jude knew that Madoc was just looking out for her. He had been since her parents died when she was 7 years old. Eva and Justin Duarte had died when their car went off the road and into a tree during a storm. Her mother had died on impact while her father died during the ambulance ride to the hospital. Madoc, Vivianne’s biological father, had adopted Taryn and Jude, so they wouldn’t go into the system and could grow up with their older sister instead of strangers.
“What are you drinking?” Cardan asked, bringing her out of her thoughts.
“Cuppocinno, why?”
“Is it decaf?” She quirked an eyebrow and he continued. ”It’s just that I read that when you’re pregnant she shouldn’t drink caffeine, it can reduce the blood supply to the baby and inhibit growth. That’s all.”
“Is reading pregnancy books a secret hobby of yours?”
“I might have done some reading over the weekend.” He shot her a sheepish smile and rubbed the back of his neck. “Okay, that's a lie. I read a lot.”
They hadn’t even decided what to do yet about it, but he was already reading and trying to do his best for the baby. It warmed her heart a little, knowing that he really was gonna be there if she decided to go through with this. That he wasn’t leaving them, like his father had left his mother. “But yes, the coffee is decaf. I had the same thought.”
“Did you want something else?”
“I saw you and thought I would walk you to class.”
Jude’s eyebrows furrowed. “Walk me to class?”
“Yeah. I said that I would be with you every step of the way, and I know that you are nervous about today.” He shot her another sheepish smile. “So, this is me. Quite literally walking every step of the way with you. Even if it is just the walk to our joint Business Administration class.”
Once again his actions warmed her heart. “Okay.” She nodded and they made their way towards the building.
- - -
“Alright, class, that will be all for today.” The professor finished off the day’s class. “See you again tomorrow.”
As students started filling out of the room, Jude slowed down her normal packing pace. Normally she would be one of the first students out the door. But not today.
No, today she was stalling. And she knew it.
Just as she picked up her laptop, the scum of the earth decided to make today an even longer day. “Hello, Jude. I must say-”
She cut him off. “Not today, Locke. Trust me.”
“Why Jude?” Locke sat down at the desk that was unofficially hers and tilted his head. “Something on that mind of yours?”
“None of your business if I did.”
“What’s the rush?” Locke tilted his head, his red hair catching the light.
Gathering the last of her things, Jude decided to just play along, only to get out of the auditorium quicker. She gave him a saccharine smile and patted him on the cheek with her free hand. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
Turning on the heel of her boot, she walked out of the now almost empty auditorium, abandoning her original plan to wait till everybody had left and then go find Carden. She made her way to the parking lot to see if she could spot Carden, like they had agreed to.
She found him leaning against a sporty black car. After looking around to see if Locke still couldn’t take a hint, Jude walked over to the car and moved to open the door, when Cardan opened the door for her.
“Thanks.” She quietly said, getting in the car. Cardan rounded the hood of the car and got in the driver’s seat. Once they drove out of the parking lot, and soon a comfortable silence settled over the car.
After a couple of minutes, Jude took out the magazine she had bought earlier and once again stared at Dain Greenbriar on the cover. There were a couple of different shots of him and the blonde woman who looked like a model. One was the two of them in front of a car, which they most likely just came out of. Another one looked like it had been taken from afar, probably by some intrusive paperazzi.
Jude glanced over at Cardan. He had definitely noted the magazine, if his hand grabbing the steering wheel so hard his knuckles had turned white was any indication. She started wondering if the paperazzi ever intruded in his life, even if he had cut off ties to his biological family. She could still remember in high school that he would pop up in the gossip columns and in magazines.
“Just ask what you’re thinking, Jude.” He said, his eyes not leaving the road.
“Does the paparazzi still follow you around, even though you don’t talk to the other Greenbriars?”
“Sometimes the occasional picture will pop up.” He answered, his voice hard. “But not as much as they did when I was still living with Balekin.”
Given his tone, she didn’t reply. She had only heard part of the story and could only imagine what went through his head, whenever he thought back to that part of his life.
Before she could think better of it, she reached over the center console, took his free hand and gave it a squeeze. Letting go of his hand, she turned on the car radio and just like that they were back in the comfortable atmosphere.
- - -
“Jude Duarte?” The doctor called out. The doctor was a raven haired woman who looked to be in her late thirties and was dressed in a white coat. Jude and Cardan got up from their seats and shook the woman’s outstretched hand, introducing themselves. “I’m Dr. Conway. Please come inside.” The doctor gestured to the open door to her left.
The office consisted of a desk with one chair on one side and two on the other. Shelves with what looked like medical supplies, books and framed diagrams. Walking to the desk, Jude and Cardan both sat down on one side of the desk and Dr. Conway on the other side.
The doctor grabbed some papers and put on a pair of glasses. “Okay, so Jude. On the phone you didn’t mention many details, but why don’t you tell me why you're here?” She smiled kindly at Jude, encouraging her to talk.
“I’m almost three weeks late. I can’t keep most food down. I cry a lot which maybe doesn’t sound like anything except I never cry and last week I took three pregnancy tests and they all came back positive.” The words came out quickly and she took a deep breath. Cardan reached out and grabbed her hand in his, giving it a squeeze. Just like she had done in the car. “I don’t know what the chance of getting three false positive pregnancy tests are, but I’d really appreciate it if you could take a sample of something and test it to see if I really am pregnant.”
Dr. Conway gave another warm smile. “Well, I can start by telling you that the chances of getting just one false positive test is less than 1%, so for you to get three is pretty much impossible. We can draw a little blood or you can give me a urine sample and we can have the lab test it. The urine test is just like one you take at the store and it’s 99% accurate just like the store bought one, but if it makes you more comfortable we can test it and will have the results within a few minutes. Whereas the blood test takes a couple of days .”
Jude agreed to give a urine sample and 15 minutes later the doctor walked back into the office with a file in her hands. It wasn’t before Cardan steadied her bouncing leg with a hand, that she realized she had shown how nervous she was. He let his hand rest on her leg and Jude took a deep breath.
Dr. Conway sat down in her chair once more and opened her file. “As I thought, the test came back positive. Typically your first ultrasound would first take place closer to the end of your first trimester. But I can see in your file that you’re a twin, so I want to check the number of fertilized eggs.” The doctor’s face grew more serious for a moment, looking between Jude and Cardan. “Now, if you wish to carry the baby to term, I will perform the ultrasound today. But if you don’t wish to, then I will provide you with a list of clinics that perform abortions.”
Getting back up from her desk chair again, the doctor walked over to a cabinet and pulled out a piece of cloth. “If you wish to have the ultrasound, you will have to change into this. You can change in there.” She gestured to a door behind them. “I’ll leave you two to talk, just knock on the dock when you’ve made a decision.”
“Thanks.” Jude took the gown from her and then the doctor left the office to give them privacy.
It was quiet for a moment.
Cardan was the first to speak. “I stand by what I said last week. The choice is yours, I’m not going to force this on you. I will be with you every step of the way, no matter what you choose.”
She looked over at Cardan. He was already facing her. “I had this plan.”
“A plan for what?” He asked.
She twisted in her seat, to face him. “My life. How it was all supposed to go.”
“What was it supposed to go like?”
“I was going to finish college, start my own photography business. Spend some years abroad in Europe, like in France. Have a few drunken escapades.” She tried to swallow the emotions clogging her throat. “Then come home, open a gallery and display my overseas adventures. Then maybe find a guy, get married and have a kid or two. If the kid part happened then it was supposed to be in the end of my 20s, not the beginning of them. But life doesn’t always happen like you plan it. My dad was supposed to walk me down the aisle, if I ever got married. Not die before I turned 8. Taryn was supposed to be my other half, the one I could always come to if anything happened. Not lie and screw me over for some guy.”
“So, what are you saying?”
“I'm saying that I may have had this vision for what my life was going to look like. That I thought I could plan my life and just live by that plan. That the last couple of months has taught me that you can’t plan life. I don’t know if down the road I will find the guy, get married and have a baby with. I’m saying I want the baby.”
Cardan nodded and gave her a smile. She got from the chair, the same time as Cardan did. Before she realized what had happened, he had wrapped her into a hug. It was quick and he let go of her before she could return the hug.
She turned from the chair, the gown in hand and pulled open the door. After finding the switch and turning on the light, Jude started stripping down. The material was soft, probably cotton. It was a light pink and had strings down the back to tie the gown together.
Once she had changed into the gown, she walked back out into the room. Dr. Conway was now back in the room and had dragged forward a machine that Jude figured was the ultrasound machine. Or whatever the thing was called.
“Jude, if you could please take a seat in the chair and put your feet up in the stirrups.” She gestured to the examination chair. “Cardan, you can stand by Jude’s head.”
Getting in the chair, Jude made eye contact with Cardan as he stood next to the head rest on the chair. She pointed to the spot he was standing, her eyes narrowed. “You stay right there. I don’t want you sneaking a peek at my goods.”
Cardan's mouth twisted into a smirk. “I don’t need to sneak a peek at your goods, I‘ve already seen your goods and it’s all stored up here.” He tapped his temple.
“How long have you two known each other?” The doctor chuckled, the question brining them back to reality. She had rolled over a revolving chair, and was now situated between the stirrups holding up Jude’s leg.
“Since he was 15 and I was 14.” Jude answered. Cardan had repeated a year, making him a year older than her.
“And how long have the two been a couple?” The doctor asked, tapping on the button on the machine. Her lips were quirked up.
“What do you mean?” Cardan asked.
“You two fight like an old married couple.”
“We are not together.” Jude answered. “We have just been stuck with each other throughout high school and then we both got into the same college.” She glanced up at Cardan, who was already looking at her. “This baby is just the product of a slightly drunken night.”
“Sorry, I have couples come in that have been together for years and fight like the two of you do.” Turning away from the machine and facing Jude and Cardan, holding up a wand-looking thing. “Now, given that you’re about 6 weeks along, the baby is so small that the machine can’t pick up on how many babies there are with a regular abdominal ultrasound. So I will insert this-” She gestured to the wand-thing she was holding. “-into you and while it may be a little uncomfortable, it shouldn’t hurt.”
Jude to Dr. Conway, signaling she was ready. The doctor inserted the wand and turned to look at the screen, holding the wand with one hand and tapping at a few keys. “Ah, here we are.” She turned the screen so that Jude and Cardan could both see it. “And this is your baby.”
“‘Baby’, as in one?” Cardan asked, his hand had drifted to Jude shoulder without her noticing. She raised her hand and let it rest on top of his.
“Yes, one baby.“ The doctor confirmed. She tapped another key and turned a dail. “And if we're lucky, we can already hear the heartbeat.” She turned the dial further and soon the office was filled with a steady thumping.
Jude wiped her cheek, not sure when she had started crying. The steady thumping of the heartbeat echoed in her own chest, warming her heart so much, she thought people may physically see her heart glow through her clothes.
She looked up at Cardan, his eyes were on the screen, though Jude could see the love shining in his eyes. As if sensing her eyes on him, he turned to her and gave her a beaming smile, which she returned in earnest.
Then she looked back at the screen, the smile still on her lips.
There it was.
Their baby.
Her baby.

I was curious about "the folk of the air" trilogy, but one of the first things that I found out was that jude's parents killed a pregnant woman to stage eve's death. I felt bad enjoying something building stone for which was some woman and her child's death.
Then I heard Madoc's story. It was so tragic and intriguing that I began to read it. Madoc is not without flaws, to put it mildly. But he was betrayed in the most cruel way by someone he fully trusted. As a tactician, he probably didn't trust anyone. Just eve. Falling out of love is sad, but eve didn't even have a decency to tell it straight to his face. Probably, he would not let her go, or maybe he would but kept vivi with him. Madoc loved her, and she, at least once, thought that she loved him as well. He deserved not to be left mourning, thinking that his wife and child were dead.
If someone I love would betray me, deceive me, steal my child, and leave me mourning him for a decade, I would want a sword through him too.
Not just that. Eve didn't want to leave elfhame once she found out how bloodthirsty Madoc is. She got bored. She enjoyed everything life with him could give and then got tired of it. That had nothing to do with Madoc' nature.
Justin was just as bad. He enjoyed Madoc's hospitality, sat at his table, broke bread with him. Acted as a friend. Was treated with respect, all while in the land where humans are despised and considered lowly creatures. And then proceeded cheating with Madoc's wife.
It is weirdly downplayed that duartes killed a woman. Maybe she wanted to live, wanted her child to live. Maybe there is a husband left somewhere also mourning his wife and child or not knowing at all what happened to them . They just thought that their lives were more important than anyone's else.
And how were they found? justin bragged too much that he stole secrets of faerie's and a bride. He attacked Madoc first, and honestly, I don't know what was he expecting? To kill the high general in one blow? eve also doesn't seem heartbroken over her dead husband. She tries to run away. Fucking where? And leaving her three daughters with someone she just called a monster?
And then Madoc does, in my opinion,the most mind-blowing thing. Not only he takes all three of them because feels responsible for children he met minutes ago. He loves them. Not only provides them with "roof and table", he treats them as his own. Personally instucts in the "art of fighting", plays with them, lets them "sit on his knee and eat of his plate." Madoc doesn't know any freaking fairy tales, so he reads them battle strategy books. "Insisted on treating them as though they were his own born daughters, kissing them on top of their heads and resting his clawed fingers protectively on their shoulders". Public affection display of the freaking high general?! That melts my heart.
And how angry he was after Jude's faerie fruit incident?! It is not "they disrespected me", its "they've hurt my daughter and I will kill them"
He lets taryn marry locke, even though, seeing the disaster a mile away, but doesn't want to bend her will. Tries to save "taryn" from the trial. He doesn't want Jude to become dain's knight, because he already plans to act against him.
He keeps fucking things that justin made in case his daughters want to have something from him.
He loves Oak as his own too. Madoc is all "if a child is under my roof, it is my child. Even when I have to drag them under the said roof"
Madoc did many bad things. But I always believed that one truly redeeming quality is enough for a chance.
I hope he learns to control his bloodthirst. I hope he gets pardoned. I hope he teaches his grandchildren to fight, lets them eat from his plate and reads strategy books before bed. I hope he gets happy ending.

Jurdan Secret Pregnancy
Summary: One year into their marriage Jude had started to feel sick. She had gone to the mortal world visiting Vivi and Heather. They convinced her to take a test to be sure. Only one problem for Jude, she is now a queen on the run with an hotheaded husband on her trails.
One year after the end of Queen Of Nothing
Chapter 3
[Jude’s POV]
I had been sitting on my couch watching some crappy reality show when it knocked on the door. Not thinking too much of it and being heavily pregnant I didn’t get up to open the door. But when it kept knocking on the door, I hauled myself upwards and out to the worn-down door opening it.
“Hello wife.”
The last one I ever would have expected to see here was Cardan, in all honestly over the last few weeks I have wished for nothing more than for him to find me, but now when it is happening, I cannot process it properly. It is like going into shock.
I immediately shut the door in his face, but before it closed entirely Cardan put his foot in between the door and himself, effectively keeping it open.
He pulls me outside and the door shuts close behind me. I try to wrist myself away from him, but he just tightens his grip on my waist. He lifts me up in bridal style carrying me down the stairs and the entire way out to the leaf covered ground.
“PUT ME DOWN CARDAN!” I scream at him, trashing around but being careful not to let the bump touch anything.
He looks down at me with a sceptical eye, before looking down on my swollen stomach. He almost drops me there, and I was convinced that if he hadn’t been carrying me, he would have dropped to his knees.
“Cardan, put me down.”
He just looks me in the eyes and narrowing his so slight wrinkles appear around his beautiful black eyes. “I don’t care what you want anymore Jude, you are coming with me and that is the end of the story. You hear me?” Fuck he can be scary when he is serious, and he rarely ever is.
 ***
 When we had arrived at the palace Cardan had put me down to the ground, dragging me towards our bedroom chambers in a bruising grip.
For once the palace was dead as the night, and it was highlight daytime.
“Get in there” Cardan said throwing the doors open and dragging me towards me glorious bed.
“You. You sit your ass down right here and don’t you dare move a fucking inch! Understood?” He took my head between his warm hands, cupping my cheeks looking at me with loving eyes. He can make me go soft with just the tiniest emotion from him. He was my everything. He still is.
He always will be.
“I don’t need to listen to you.” At that point he was fuming, and I could almost see smoke coming out of his ear, and in rage he grabs my waist and pulls me towards him, careful not to crush the baby.
“Listen wife, I don’t care what you want because no matter what you say you are queen and you are my wife, and you need a goddamn lesson because you have been a bad little girl, but I will not give it to you now considered your current condition.” He roars out, almost like he still was a deadly black snake.
Who knows, it might even be his spirit animal.
With that he walked out of the door, closing and locking it behind him.
That was when I realized that he had planned to do.
He was going to hold me a prisoner in my own home.

Chapter 11: A Special Delivery
Tumblr media
Jude’s screams shook through the palace. Her labor had drawn in dark clouds over the kingdom, but it did not dim the excitement that felt almost tangible in the air.
At first Jude had tried to bite her lip through the painful contractions, but once she began to taste blood she could not help but yell through the pain. Cardan was beside her holding her hand through the process, looking equally terrified as he was fascinated, which only irritated Jude as she tried to listen to Tatterfell’s instructions on when to push and when to breathe.
She had only been pushing for an hour, but for Jude it felt like an eternity. At this point, she would have preferred to be sliced through again than to deal with the ongoing contractions.
“My Queen, one final push, I can see the child.” Tatterfell instructed.
The last of Jude’s screams echoed the small chambers as Tatterfell pulled the newborn into a blanket, as another nurse cut the umbilical cord. Jude fell back onto the bed, her face flushed and dripping in sweat.
Cardan kissed Jude’s sweat covered forehead. Even though she might have fractured a few bones in his hand, his face did not show it. The king was beaming with pride and what seemed to be disbelief, as his eyes shifted between his beautiful wife and the child now in his arms. He brought the child down into Jude’s chest.
The baby girl was wrapped up almost like a present, the best present she could have imagined. Her head was already covered in long black hair, just like Cardan’s, but when she opened her eyes Jude saw the child had eyes like fire. The outer irises were black, but inside was a beautiful brown with flecks of gold. Her face was beautiful even as a loud wail escaped the newborn’s lips.
All of her fears seemed to melt when she held her in her arms. Everything she had gone through had been building to this moment.
“You are amazing, Jude,” Cardan murmured lovingly, bringing his hand to rest behind the newborn’s head. For the briefest moment, Jude broke her gaze from the baby to look at her husband. The look on Cardan’s face was one that she had never seen before. He had tears in his eyes with a gaze so soft as he admired the bundle. When the newborn grabbed his finger, Jude watched him come undone; an audible gasp escaped his lips.
She knew in that moment that Cardan would walk to the ends of the world, twice, for the daughter in their arms; as would she. Their daughter was already loved so deeply by both of them.
The tender moment was broken, by another contraction. Jude tensed, letting Cardan scope the newborn from her arms, as she gripped the sheets of the bed.
“It is not over yet, there is another coming, my Queen.” Tatterfell said from the foot of the bed, examining her.
“WHAT?” Jude screamed, looking wild with her flushed face and hair already matted against her forehead with sweat from the first delivery. She looked to Cardan to see his reaction, but what she found almost sent her into a blind rage.
There was no shock in Cardan’s face, rather a nervous grin, as he looked at her, then back at their child in his arms. Their first child.
He knew. Of course he knew.
“WHEN I SAID I WANTED IT TO BE A SURPRISE, I MEANT THE GENDER NOT THAT I WAS CARRYING TWINS.” Jude roared.
Before she could curse Cardan for keeping the secret, another contraction rippled through her body. Tatterfell went back to instructing Jude and sent the other nurse to grab another blanket.
When a third nurse tried to take the newborn from Cardan, he refused, waving her away without room for discussion. Instead, he took a chair next to the bed, holding the baby girl in one hand and comforting his wife with the other.
This time, Jude’s wails were accompanied by another screaming voice. Cardan cooed the baby, while Jude continued to push their second child into the world.
With a final push, Tatterfell wrapped the bundle and brought the newest baby into Jude’s arms.
This time it was a baby boy, with tufts of hair the same brown as her own. Tears fell from Jude’s eyes as the baby was given to her; partially from exhaustion, but mostly from the overwhelming love she felt for her babies. She held him close to her chest. Cardan handed her the girl in his arms, so for the first time Jude was able to admire both of her babies in all their wonder.
While every parent believed their child was the most beautiful, the half faerie blood flowing in their veins truly made them look perfect. Tatterfell, who had delivered many babies in her time, acknowledged the beautiful twins and congratulated the couple.
The little boy resembled Jude in all ways except one; poking out from his blanket was a tiny tail with a tuft of brown hair. It fluttered around as the tiny babe looked at both Jude and Cardan with his big brown eyes.
The little girl had managed to fall asleep in Cardan’s arms despite the sounds of Jude’s labor. She had a feeling that the little girl was the one who responded so eagerly to Cardan’s touch in the later months of her pregnancy.
“Are there any more babies I should expect?” Jude asked, exhaustion clear in her voice.
Cardan looked at her and laughed. “Not for a few months at least.”
The smirk on his face, plus the meaning behind his words sent a wave of heat and excitement through her. However, the pain of the labor was still very real. Cardan would be lucky if she risked even sleeping in the same bed after this.
The two stayed there holding the babies for a long time before Jude began to lose the battle against the urge to sleep. Cardan was the first to notice her drooping eyelids and the way her head kept snapping as sleep tried to take her.
“I will take them to the nursery so you can rest.” Cardan said quietly.
Jude was too tired to argue. She wanted to keep holding on to their little bodies forever, but she was also partially afraid she would drop them if she fell asleep on accident. Reluctantly, she nodded and let Cardan take each of them in his arms.
Tatterfell appeared at the door and followed Cardan into the next room which was commissioned into a nursery. Jude insisted that the baby, well babies now, be kept close by even if nurses would be helping to take care of them while they were growing up.
Jude’s eyes lingered for a moment on the doorframe separating their rooms before finally falling asleep.
___________________________________________________
When Jude woke, she was alone.
“Cardan?” She called. Instead of her husband, it was Tatterfell who emerged from the nursery.
“Your majesty, it is time we cleaned you up.” The imp woman said.
Jude did not realize how sore she was until she tried to walk to the bathroom. The sight was not a pretty one, but her old nurse helped her into the bath, combed her hair into a simple braid, and dressed her in new clothes. By the time she reentered the bedroom, the servants had replaced the bed with fresh sheets and Cardan was sitting on a sofa, both babies squirming in his arms.
The sight of her new family was almost too much to bear, Jude thought she might burst into tears again at the wonderful view.
She crossed the room and took a spot next to Cardan.
“I am glad that there are two of us, because it turns out that despite having two arms, it is difficult to tend to both at the same time.” Cardan said somewhere between a joke and genuine concern. The boy had started to fuss, which caused his twin to let out a wail as well.
Jude reached for a baby, grabbing the girl. She rocked the little one until her cries stopped. Pressed against her skin, she felt her and the child both relax. Meanwhile, Cardan gently bounced the boy until he too went back to sleep.
“Well I suppose we are doing better at this parent thing than I thought,” Jude said in all seriousness.
Cardan slid closer to her. In return, Jude leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder, breathing in his scent mixed in with the smell of newborns. So much had changed in less than a day and things would keep changing.
“I suppose it is time to decide on names.” Jude said with a sigh.
Cardan mimicked her sigh, teasing her reluctance. “I suppose it is. Shall I name this one and you name that one?”
Jude thought about giving him a sour look, but was still too tired to put up much of a fight. Instead she said, “Sure, especially since I had only planned on us having to figure out a name for one.” She would not be letting that go anytime soon. “What will we call that one?”
Cardan perked up at her answer, clearly expecting her to have refused and surprised when she didn’t. Cardan’s eyes fell to the sleeping child. Jude had never seen him look so innocent as he did looking at their children. Any trace of the cruel prince she once knew was gone. He was completely captivated in their presence.
“Do you like the name Ellis?” Cardan finally asked, looking uncharacteristically timid. “It reminds me a bit of the name Alice.”
Jude looked at the child, and nodded with a smile. “I think it is perfect.”
Ellis. His soft features so much like her own. There were so many things she hoped for him. Hopefully, his and his sister’s lives would be much easier than her or Cardan’s had been.
“Now to name this one,” Cardan murmured.
Jude thought through the short list of names that she had come up with, but realized that none of the names seemed to fit the beautiful baby that resembled so much of Cardan. Jude thought of the child’s fire like eyes and knew the name that would fit her.
“Ember.” Jude said at last. Cardan smiled widely and nodded.
“It suits her well.”
Cardan pressed his lips to the top of her head, both of them savoring their first moments of parenthood together, when a loud knock at the door interrupted their thoughts.
Before either could say anything, the door swung open and in came Oak holding a dozen floating balloons. Behind him was Taryn and the Ghost with her niece at their feet looking around curiously. The Ghost looked a little out of place holding a bag that said “Congrats!” with a picture of a pacifier on it, but his presence next to Taryn had become a new normal.
Behind them came Vivi and Heather, between the two of them they had nearly 12 bags of all sizes hanging off their arms. Following up the back was the Roach and the Bomb, who also held what appeared to be presents in their hands, although theirs were wrapped in beautiful cloth obviously not bought from the mortal world.
“Congratulations!!” Vivi and Oak yelled at the same time before Taryn and Heather both made shushing noises for them to be more quiet so they wouldn’t disturb the baby.
It was at that moment that the room realized that not only was Cardan holding a baby, but Jude was as well.
“TWINS?” Screamed half the crowd, the other half too shocked to speak.
“Did you know?”
“Why didn’t you tell me!?”
“They are so beautiful.”
“Why don’t they look the same like Jude and Taryn?”
“We should have brought more gifts.”
Cardan and Jude tried their best to answer the bombardment of questions. While a part of Jude missed the quiet silence from a moment ago, she could not help but laugh at the scene.
Taryn took a spot next to her, admiring the babies.
“Congratulations, Jude. They are wonderful." After a moment, she looked at Jude and asked, "How are you feeling?”
Jude smiled at her sister. “Thank you, I am doing okay. Honestly, better than okay. It seems surreal,” Jude admitted, pulling the baby closer to her. “Thank you for your help over the last few months.”
Taryn smiled, taking a hand to brush Ember’s dark hair. Jude motioned to Taryn to hold the baby, which she quickly accepted, pulling the baby into her arms. Of everyone in the room, Taryn had the most experience with babies after having her own. Jude trusted her sister even though her heart already ached from being away from her babies.
Oak popped up in front of them, leaning over to see the babies faces with a wide smile. “So one of them will become king or queen right? Now I don’t have to?”
“When the time comes you can make your decision,” Cardan said with an earnest smile. “There will be no plot to stick an unwanted crown on your head.”
He voice dropped to barely a murmur no longer speaking to anyone but Jude. “Although it certainly can bring some amazingly unexpected outcomes.”
Jude’s heart fluttered when he broke his eyes away from the babies to give her a quick wink.
Everyone took turns fawning over the tiny babies who were now awake from the sounds coming from the large crowd.
As Jude looked around at all the faces of the room, she remembered how isolated her life had been only a few years prior, struggling every hour to grasp at any power she could find. She had her family, but even then she never felt safe. Now, she no longer felt alone. The room had their fair share of betrayals, some larger than others, but somehow everything came to be. Her eyes went from her siblings to the Court of Shadows to the babies and finally Cardan; once her enemy, now so much more.
Danger would always be present, but at least in this moment they were all able to celebrate together.
When she looked at Cardan, she had a feeling he felt the same way.
_____________________________________________________
A short epilogue
A few months later...
“Jude! Come here quick!” Cardan’s voice shouted from the parlor.
Jude was on her feet immediately and ran to see what was wrong. Cardan had been in with the twins for a considerable amount of time, but Jude had not heard anything and assumed all was well.
When she came into the parlor, she was not prepared for the sight before her.
Cardan, dressed in an elaborate outfit as usual, but what caught her attention was the carrier of sorts around his torso, with Ellis strapped to the front of his chest with Ember strapped onto his back. Cardan was beaming and both babies were giggling as they bounced around the room.
When he saw Jude, he quickly waived both hands in front of him. “Jude, look! No hands!”
Jude’s mouth was agape. “Where did you get such a thing?” She demanded, beginning to worry how safe it was and if she would have to catch a falling baby.
Cardan seemed to not share any of her concerns as he continued to move about the room, lightly bouncing with each step which caused both babies to screech with happiness.
“It was a gift from Vivienne. It came this morning. I had a servant help me strap it on.” He explained.
Well, at least the servants secured it. Vivi had periodically sent over gifts from the mortal world and many of them proved to be very useful, although some of the noise making ones had already “accidentally” gone missing. At least this didn’t appear to make sound.
“Isn’t it wonderful Jude? I could hold a goblet in one hand and waive away the Living Counsel with the other. In your case, I suppose you could hold a sword in one and a shield in the other.”
Jude couldn’t help but smile. “Maybe you’re right. Think of the potential. Maybe I will take the twins into the next battle or later night adventure.”
Cardan looked up in horror, afraid she had taken his joke literally.
A large smirk spread like wildfire across her face, revealing her true intention. Cardan recovered quickly from his shock, wearing his own grin.
"Forever, so cruel," he said as the twins giggled from their harnesses.
It seemed that they would never stop torturing each other, they just found new ways to do it.

How Am I Going to Tell Him?
Jude/Cardan Fan Fiction
Summary: Jude has been feeling sick for a few days. The flu? Poison? It takes Taryn only a minute to realize the cause: The High Queen is pregnant.
Read the whole work here “How Am I Going to Tell Him”
Chapter 3: Taryn
“Jude you look…” Taryn trailed off looking the tired queen up and down.
“Tired, sickly, a step from death? Yes, yes. I am aware.” Jude takes a quick glance at a servant walking by having likely just cleaned up her most recent spell of sickness.
Taryn noticed Jude’s glance and looked back at her. “Are you sleeping okay?” she asked with a concerned tone reminiscent of a mother. Maybe motherhood suited Taryn, even if the father had been a questionable choice.
“I sleep fine enough, although it would be nicer if I wasn’t waking up to pee every few hours.” As if on cue, Jude realized she, in fact, did have to pee again. She continued, “But mostly, my issue is that I keep getting hit with spells of nausea. I considered poison at first, but the Bomb doesn’t think so. Just looking at food makes my stomach turn.” Jude slouched down further in her chair adjacent to her sister, who sat perfectly straight at the edge of her chair. It was funny to think which one was the high queen.
Something flashed in Taryn’s eyes, one that Jude thought looked almost like… excitement? “What exact symptoms have you been experiencing?”
Jude was convinced that if The Bomb could not diagnose her, then her sister would likely not have any better luck. Reluctantly she began to list off everything that she had been experiencing the last couple of weeks. “Well, as I said, I keep throwing up. I am starving for food, but then once it is brought out I run to the bathroom again. I feel warm and my pulse is definitely higher even though I have NOT LEFT THIS ROOM.” Jude couldn’t help but raise her voice at the end. Her frustration was at an all time high. Despite being queen, she had been essentially sentenced to bedrest by Cardan. Once she tried to make her escape to a meeting with new recruits into the Court of Shadows but realized that all her engagements had been canceled and everyone had been forbidden from talking about anything related to the kingdom. If Cardan could not force her to stay in her room, he just made sure there was nothing for her to attend to.
To add on top of frustrations, Cardan was called away to take care of some crown business and did not come home last night. A messenger had given her a note from him, stating there was some urgent matter between the lower courts, but not to be concerned and that he would return by the following day. It was likely that he had the letter delivered so that Jude could not demand more information, knowing he couldn’t lie to her. What was so important he had to attend in person, but not so important that the queen should not know about?
Jude, realizing her sister had said nothing, looked back to find Taryn staring at her with the most intense eyes. “What?” Jude snapped.
“Jude…” Taryn began slowly. “Have you considered all the possibilities?”
“As I said, it is not poison so maybe I just have a weird bug.” It is unusual in Faerieland, but she had been sick a few times growing up Jude reasoned.
Taryn raised an eyebrow. “Have you had your period recently?”
She tried to think back to the last one she had. Faerieland caused irregular menstruation so it was not something that she kept track of regularly, but it had definitely been several months, longer than any interval she typically had. As Jude put together her sister’s implication, the blood drained from her face.
Oh. No.
Jude stood up quickly and Taryn met her, grabbing her forearms and looking almost giddy with excitement. “It has been a while, hasn’t it? Oh, Jude do you think that is it? It is the most logical explanation!”
It was a logical explanation. One that Jude has completely overlooked. Fey struggled to conceive children, but when a mortal woman was involved the rates of conception were much higher. After all, she and Cardan shared many nights together.
“Oh, Taryn what am I going to do?” Jude’s voice breaking into a cry. Jude hated the weakness in her voice, but the idea was tremendously overwhelming. What did this mean? Was she ready to be a parent? A mother? It is not as though she could remember much of her mom, and Oriana was never motherly towards her and her sisters. What about Oak? Would she want her child on the throne more than Oak? Did Cardan?
Cardan.
A million more questions flooding her head, stopping any rational thinking. How was she going to tell him? How would he react? The unknowns caused her tears to burst from her eyes.
Well add overemotional to the list of symptoms too, she thought bitterly.
Taryn pulled Jude into a big hug and held her there. “Jude, you are going to be fine. This is going to be wonderful. You will be a great mother and our little ones can grow up together. Plus the whole kingdom will celebrate!”
Leave it to Taryn to find the delights of domesticity and motherhood. Jude was a queen married to a king, whom neither had particularly great relationships with their parents. How on earth would they be able to raise a child? No less while running a kingdom.
Trying to keep her voice from trembling, Jude asked, “How am I going to tell him?”
Taryn laughed, “You mean Cardan? I would start by saying ‘I am pregnant.”
Jude flinched at the word before hissing at her sister to be quiet. “I don’t want anyone to hear and have all of Faerieland know before I have figured things out for myself.”
Taryn stared at her sister, her face briefly flashing a confused look before she regained her composure. Taryn chuckled softly, almost to herself. “Well, you won’t have to figure things out all by yourself. You have him to share this with.” After a moment she added, “And me too of course. You’re not alone in this.”
Jude became quiet, realizing the depth of what Taryn has said. Regardless of her opinions of Locke, Jude could only imagine the pain her sister experienced from carrying and raising a child alone, especially after having killed his father.
The sisters stand there, in the middle of the royal living room holding one another, as if comforting one another’s pains. Jude thinks back to the days after Madoc brought her sisters with him to his estate. Jude and Taryn were inseparable, even sharing a room and sometimes a bed. Always protecting each other. Always there for one another. There had been no betrayal between them yet. For a moment, Jude let the warmth of the memory ease her mind. It was nice to feel this close to her twin again. But soon the moment ended and Jude is snapped back to the current reality.
“We need to confirm this,” says Taryn with a wicked smile.

Pregnant Jurdan, part 1
Part 2
Being High Queen means always being busy. Always being busy means a lot of the time I have no idea what day it is or how much time is really passing.
It isn’t until I’m sitting in the brugh during a revel that I notice a full moon in a sky. Something about this seems significant to me, and I force myself to think as hard as possible.
And then I realize.
I’m late.
I can already feel my heart pounding loudly in my chest.
Turning to Cardan, trying to seem as calm as possible, I say, “I’m going to turn in early. Enjoy yourself.”
I don’t give him much time to respond before I’m taking my personal guard back to our chambers. If anyone notices something off about my mood, they don’t mention it.
I’m slamming my door and pacing the parlor before my mind can come to any decision. I’m positive I’m late because the last time I remember bleeding was two full moons ago.
Suddenly I feel dizzy.
“This doesn’t mean anything,” I try telling myself. “Stress can make things irregular.” Even though the last time I was irregular was when I was 14. I know that this isn’t merely a missed cycle.
Before I can talk myself out of it, I crack the door open and call Fand over. I keep my voice steady but quiet while I say, “Please send a healer. And be as discreet as possible.” Without waiting for questions I’m back in the parlor.
I’m already coming up with plans in my head. If I am... pregnant then it’s not the end of the world. I’ve been queen for almost eight years now. Cardan has briefly mentioned wanting children with me.
I’m most scared for myself. Which already gives me evidence that I’d be a terrible mother. I was raised with too much hate and destruction to ever be a good mom. But now it seems I won’t have a choice. I don’t know what to do to ensure I don’t screw a baby up like I’ve been screwed up.
A light knock comes at the door, and when I give the okay an imp hobbles in. She reminds me of Tatterfell, but with a face that seems less kind. Perhaps I’m just used to Tatterfell’s fondness.
“Your majesty,” the imp says to me, bowing her head. I’m too panicked to get annoyed that she doesn’t kneel. It will take far longer than eight years for a kingdom of immortal beings to accept a mortal as their ruler.
That seems like a small worry now.
“You’re a healer?”
All she does is nod.
“If anything we discuss in here tonight leaves your mouth outside this room I’ll have your tongue cut out, and I’ll throw you up into the Tower of Forgetting.” When she looks slightly alarmed I continue. “I have a suspicious I might be with child. What can you do for me?”
“May I touch you, my lady?”
I don’t particularly want her to, but I give a stiff nod. She motions to my body, and then I understand she means to touch my skin. My stomach. I don’t care much for modesty at the moment, so I strip out of my dress so all I’m in is my mortal undergarments. At least they’re not polka-dotted.
She approaches slowly, and then places one of her gnarled hands on my stomach. It’s cold and not soft, but I say nothing. She can probably hear how fast my heart is beating. I definitely can.
Minutes pass, and she moves her palm several places around my stomach. I’m getting anxious. I know getting mad will do me no good, but it feels like a can of soda that’s been shaken. Too much is going on inside of my head.
The imp clears her throat and steps back respectfully. “You are with child, my lady. In fact, I believe you are with two children.”
And then the world goes dark.
———————————————————————
When I wake, I am in my bed. A damp cloth has been placed across my forehead, and I can feel someone holding my hand. I already have a sneaking suspicion who this someone is.
I turn my head to the side to see Cardan sitting in a chair at the edge of the bed, forehead resting on his forearm. He’s still in the clothes he was wearing at the revel. He must’ve been called when I passed out.
The anxiety is still there, but I’ve built a wall around it. I can’t let it all flow out yet. I need to be smart about how I handle this situation. I need to treat it like every other obstacle I’ve ever approached.
Minus the murder. But that’s what Cardan is here for.
“Cardan,” I whisper, squeezing the hand he’s holding mine with.
He immediately stirs, a sleepy smile on his face when he sees me. And then is immediately replaced with a look of concern. “Jude. What happened? All I was told is you asked for a healer, and then you fainted. She wouldn’t tell me anything else.”
His worry over me makes me feel guilty even though there was nothing I could do about passing out. I was a slave to my body’s whims. But I need to tell him. I’ve learned from my mistakes in the past of keeping things from him. He doesn’t appreciate it, and it only leads to problems between us. We don’t need anymore of those than we already have.
I squeeze his hand again and motion for him to come onto the bed with me. “I’m okay.” Not a complete lie. I’m not dying. “But I have some news.”
His large black eyes feel like an unescapable tornado. I’m being sucked in. Before I can think of a good way to explain, I’m saying, “I’m pregnant. With twins.” Maybe that is the only way to explain it actually.
He sucks in a breath which does nothing to ease my anxiety. “Are you lying?”
That’s offensive. “What? No, of course not why would I lie about this?”
“I’m sorry, I know, I’m just...” Seeing Cardan at a loss for words is half exciting and half terrifying. A smile breaks across his face. His perfect face. “Jude!” He’s laughing now. I wonder if fae are able to become psychotic. Or more psychotic than normal. “That’s amazing! Wait, twins? I’ve never heard of Faerie twins. Are you sure?”
I’ve never heard of it either, but I doubt there have been many twin mortal consorts to begin with. “Unless imps have learned to lie, we are having twins.” Saying it out loud just makes my head spin more. Two of them?
He grabs my face and slams his mouth against mine. It’s quick, but it translates all the excitement he’s feeling. “This is wonderful,” he says breathlessly.
His happiness is infectious. I wouldn’t say he’s unhappy most of the time, but I’ve never seen him like this. Right now I’m looking at the person he would’ve been without the horrors of his past. A person full of light and love for everything. I hope he can pass it on to our kids.
“You think we can do this?” I ask. I’m skeptical, but I remind myself we have more than enough help should we need it. And Taryn has been doing it for almost eight years. She was always the more adaptable type, but I have to figure that child rearing can be no more difficult than kingdom building. I hope.
Cardan gives me a soft look. He’s smiling, but I can tell he sees my worries. “Yes, Jude,” he says sincerely. “Our pasts don’t make us unfit to love. They show us why it’s so important to be good. And we will be good parents. Better than either of us ever had.” He kisses my forehead. “We have each other.”
He can’t lie so he must believe these things are true. It does make me feel better. He’s already proving that he’s more cut out for this than I am. Too bad I’m the one who will provide housing for the next nine months.
I pull him closer so that both our heads are on one pillow, and his head is in the crook of my neck. He lazily runs his fingers up and down my arm while he verbally daydreams about what parenthood will look like. He talks of reading faerietales to our children at night before bed. He talks of showing our kids all the different kingdoms of Faerie. He talks of loving them unconditionally, no matter what happens.
He talks until I fall asleep, dreaming of tiny feet and pointed ears.

I can't help imagining judecardan as parents. like imagine how ELATED cardan will be when Jude finally shares the news, how he'll be so overprotective and become the most doting, caring husband to Jude, dealing with her cravings and moodswings, talking to her belly, judecardan reflecting on their own troubled childhoods and getting nervous over what kind of parents they'll be, then deciding they'll be the best ones they can, Jude getting irritated and overwhelmed by how he's looking after her, both arguing who the kid will take after (they both wish the child takes after the other, ofcourse)..he'll FINALLY have a family he loves and who love him.
SOMEONE PLEASE WRITE A PREGNANT JUDECARDAN FANFIC ALREADY
