IT'S HAPPENING!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!! eVeRy oNe StAy CaLm??
POST TQN || Set 9 years after TQN (Jude and Cardan should be around 27/28 and 28/29 respectively) (From what I got, the things that happened in TWK and TQN were 2 years long? The story started with Jude being 17 so if it was 2 years then she'd be 19 by the end of TQN. Cardan is supposed to be a year and a half older so he should be around 20 yrs old.)
Description: This is me saying sorry for this fanfic ;) Synopsis: Jude Duarte thinks she is poisoned. She feels sick? It must be the poison. She eats more? It must be because the poison made her weak. She missed her period? Yeah, must have been the poison. Was she poisoned? You guessed it! No! Word count: 1, 172
Tumblr media
Currently, the High King of Elfhame is showing his generosity. Honeysuckle wine is being unsparingly distributed through the revel. The floral-honey smell of the wine was pleasant that said, the Queen found the aroma too sweet for her liking. From afar Jude Duarte sees her husband talking to Lord Roiben of the Court of Termites. Their expressions leaving no hint of the matter they are talking about. "Sir Fand." She calls to the blue skinned pixie. "Yes, my Queen?" The pixie answered, not a second wasted. "Check on the girl who tasted my wine. If she's unharmed, inspect my glass. Do your best not to disturb the revel." The female knight immediately left to do as she is told. Suspicion plagued Jude's mind. Fae are still trying their luck at killing her. Going at her neck when they can. The High Queen starts to feel nauseated. She put her elbow onto the handrest of the throne, resting her head on her palms she closed her eyes. Jude Duarte dislikes feeling weak in any way. She especially detests it when she does not know why she feels like such. Why did she even stop mithridatism? If she hadn't, she would feel normal now. Notice nothing of the poison. Good as new. As comfortable as an infant in a cot. "Jude? Are you alright? You don't look well." She heard a voice say from behind the throne. She does not recognize it but assumes it is Liliver. "I am well. It just seems to me that the revel is a bit... Spirited." The Queen remarked, keeping her eyes closed, brows furrowing. The creatures in the festivity became too talkative for the Queens approval. She'd like to make merry some more, with the ache of her body and the noisiness however, she found it hard to do. Letting their subjects see their Queen sitting down on the throne with a scowl would ruin the entertainment they are having. Though it might as well be an excuse the Queen tells herself, to avoid disclosing the fact that she finds warming the throne tiring. "I'm heading to our chambers." She stood up, almost falling from the sudden movement. Reflexes acting fast, she catches herself by leaning onto a firm object behind her. "Let me offer some help, Your Majesty." The current Grand General, Grima Mog, supports her Queen by her arms. Thank you. Even after many years spent in Elfhame, the Queen can't seem to let go of the mortal habit she had picked up. Luckily, she felt too sick to even move her mouth more than a small crack. Only managing a nod in reply to the redcap. How surprising... Cardan hasn't noticed..? ~~~~~
"I hope you don't mind my dishonoring the title of High Queen." Jude says as she gets helped onto the mattress. "I do not min-" "It wouldn't please me for word to reach the ears of the Fae." She says now looking in the eyes of the green skinned Folk in front of her. It isn't that the Queen does not trust her General. It is only that in the world of Faeries, such words are more powerful than any intimidation. It reminds her of that phrase she saw on Heather's shirt once... 'Sorry not sorry' was it? Grima Mog shows a teethy grin to the mortal she serves. Jude Duarte smiles at the redcap who aids her. "Do call Tatterfell for me." "Yes my Queen." The General bows to Jude before heading out. Jude relaxes into the cushions, laying down and closing her eyes again. She tries to recall what made her tired -- She hadn't done much today -- She woke up, got ready, ate, attended a few meetings, prepared for the revel, ate, drank wine, and now she's back in their chambers. She was only seventeen hours through her day... But then again she hasn't been able to get an adequate amount of sleep for the last couple of days. Did I ingest the poison a few days ago? She thinks. I did miss my period... But that might be caused by my meager amount of slumber. "Lassie. What do you think you're doing, being in such a scandalous position?" Jude opens her eyes, immediately seeing the elder imp. Her debt to Madoc had ended yet she stays with Jude. It makes the High Queen smile. But then she notices the position she is in; legs wide open, golden skirt gathered on her thighs, arms splayed. Suddenly, she feels not so great of a Queen. Warmth rushing to her cheeks she stands up, slowly making her way to the vanity.
Tatterfell brushes the Queen's hair, removing the horns, and brushing her cascading, currently, very curly hair.
"Would you like to bathe?" The imp makes eye contact with Jude through the mirror. Jude nods. Tatterfell frowns. "You should've said so earlier then. You might be the High Queen but you have to learn to consider the work other have to do." The imp walks over to the door calling for somebody to prepare the bath for the Queen, quickly. Jude chuckles. The Fae had become closer to her than she had expected. She presumes maybe the imp also started to feel attached to her, being more talkative and all.
When Tatterfell comes back she helps the Queen out her golden dress. Feeling the roughness of the imps hand became a very familiar sensation for Jude. Almost as familiar as Cardan's.
Cardan... Has Cardan not noticed my withdrawing from the revel? It displeased her to think such thoughts. Why? Why has he not noticed? Has being married for so long caused him to tire of her? Had she kissed him too many times?
...Wow... The High Queen of Elfhame saw her naked form on the mirror. She shone like a star, literally. Her skin glowed and even now as she felt tired, her eyes gleamed. She felt beautiful, looked beautiful. "Your Majesty, the bath is ready." An attendant announced from behind the door. Tatterfell and Jude headed to the bath. When she sunk into the pleasantly temperate water she instantly felt her limbs relax. Being in the same position she once was as Madoc's mortal bastard, she felt nostalgic. "You smell different, child." Had Tatterfell not commented such, maybe now the Queen would be crying from sentimentality. "How so?" Jude asked the imp, holding her legs closer to her chest. She felt sudden shyness washing over her. Was she foul-smelling? She bathed pretty often though... "Oh, don't act like that." Tatterfell removed her hands from the Queen's hair. "You smell very much of life was what I supposed." The imp continued applying fragrant oils to her hair. Relief glided through Jude's body. ... Huh? "Life? What do you mean?" She turns back to face the imp. Confusion evident in her features. "I meant what I said. Think of it as you will." Subsequently, the Queen does just that. Pondering about what smelling of life implies for the last few minutes she spends in the bath.

Things I'm excited to see in The Prisoner's Throne (March 2024)
I still can’t believe we have to wait till march 2024 for prisoner throne, y’all don’t understand the amount of excitement I have about going back to the world of Elfhame and seeing my favorite beloved characters. Here’s a list of some things I’m really looking forward to see or find out.
Taryn’s Child
Like we’re finally going to meet Taryn’s Child (who I’m assuming is a boy), I wonder if Holly Black has any plans of making them a big part of this book or if she has any plans of writing a separate book with the focus on Taryn’s kid.
Oak’s POV
Holly Black confirmed that we will see Oak's perspective of Elfhame, which wasn't discussed in TSH due to Wren's POV. From my understanding, there’s a lot of problems in Elfhame that we still don’t know about. All of the unknown will finally be revealed in Prisoners Throne, and that’s sooooo exciting!
Jude and Cardan
Its obviously very clear that everyone who is a fan of TFOTA series is very excited to see how the King and Queen of Elfhame are doing!!
I am very excited to learn more about Jude and Cardan. They have been together for around 9 years since the time of The Queen Of Nothing. I am eager to see what challenges they have faced during this time and how their relationship has progressed. We will not be reading about their teenage years, but rather their adult years. I am looking forward to seeing how Holly has portrayed their growth and transformation !!!! LIKE HELLO, MATURE CARDAN AND JUDE?? I just know both are going to give DILF and MILF energy, Jurdan fans will not survive. I will not survive.
Taryn and The Ghost?
It's possible that this book will give us insight into whether Taryn and the Ghost are romantically involved. In TQON, there were some hints that The Ghost had feelings for Taryn. It's worth remembering that Taryn saved The Ghost and they were both victims of Locke's abuse.
Some people don't think the Ghost and Taryn should be together because they find it strange. They have two main reasons for this. One is that the Ghost is about 100 years older than Taryn. The other reason is that some people don't think Taryn is good enough for the Ghost. (People don't like Taryn. Do I blame them? of course not)
Any opinions of this? I have a feeling that the ghost might of become overprotective of Taryn and owes her debt for saving his life. Could they be romantically involved? Maybe, we’ll have to wait and see!
Wren’s Family
In some way Wren will finally reunite with her human family. How?…i have no idea with the nature than the stolen heir ended in. But i’m excited to see how that goes, Wren deserves her happiness. It will probably be emotional, i’ll probably cry.
Jude, Cardan and the idea of having children?
OKAY!! I made a seperate post about this months ago (if you haven’t read it, please do!! click here)
Opinions on whether Jude and Cardan should become parents are divided among fans. Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to the idea. It's important to remember that Jude and Cardan are now adults and have grown since the last time we saw them.
Holly Black has already confirmed that Jude and Cardan are aware of the idea of having children. “they are all aware of it, it will be talked about more in Prisoners Throne”
Flowers blooming in Mab’s grave have fans speculating and making theories that Jude could be possibly pregnant.
According to Holly, it would be complicated for many people if Jude and Cardan had children. This is because if they did, Oak would be removed from the throne line. However, if Oak were to become the King of Elfhame, any children that Jude and Cardan have would also be cut from the line.
I still don't see why Jude and Cardan having kids would be complicated, I think it would make perfect sense. Oak wouldn't have to rule, and Jude and Cardan could keep their Power.
We’ll see where Holly goes with this in Prisoner's Throne.
Oak becoming King of Elfhame?
Okay soooo, Oak has already stated that he does not want to be King of Elfhame, we’ve known this since the beginning of TFOTA.
If Oak were to become king, Jude and Cardan would be forced to relinquish their throne and all of their power. Personally, I would prefer that Jude and Cardan maintain their position. The people adore Cardan and are terrified of Jude, which has been their longstanding desire. I don't want them to lose it all just so that Oak can take the throne.
There’s been theories that Oak will become the King of the Court of Teeth along side Wren. But that’s the part that confuses me, Wren never wanted to become queen, neither does Oak. So i’m wondering how that’s gonna work.
Oak and his sisters
I’m excited to see them all together again. Vivi, Taryn, Jude, and Oak. Holly did say something about how the the siblings dynamic will be important in Prisoner’s Throne. UGH I MISS THEM.
Madoc, The Traitor of Elfhame
With the ending events of TSH, i’m curious to see what’s gonna happen to Madoc. I soooo doubt Jude will forgive him. Madoc is known to be a traitor, If Madoc's exile is lifted back by Jude and Cardan, it may not be well-received by the folk. It will not look good for Jude and Cardan. Will Madoc betray them again? will he fight against Jude? or will he reedeem himself?
Tiernan and Hyacinth.
Soooo this is very ANGSTY. Tiernan and Hyacinthe were in a relationship, but things fell apart when Madoc betrayed Elfhame. Tiernan remained loyal to Elfhame, while Hyacinthe joined Madoc, turning them from lovers to enemies.
To make matters worse, Hyacinthe later became loyal to Wren, who is a new enemy to Elfhame. (Things do not look good for Hyacinthe). This turn of events is quite tragic, and it leaves us wondering how they will resolve their conflicts. So it’s TRAGIC, and i wonder how they’re going to resolve it all. Like where the hell do they go from there??? HOLLLYY TELL USSSS
The Undersea
It was repeated throughout the entirety of the book that the undersea is in chaos. Queen Orlagh is not doing well, and Nicasia is too weak. Will they be dethroned? Will Jude and Cardan be involved? (I'm guessing they will)
Jude’s Political Problem
I made a seperate post about this, click here to see.
. Holly has confirmed in a livestream that Jude will have a political problem by the End of Prisoners Throne. She didn’t say Jude AND Cardan…no, she said only Jude's name. So….MISS HOLLLY BLACK WHY ARE U TORTURING US. i'm dying to know what the problem will be.
(Id also like to point out that I think holly might’ve accidentally spoiled the fact that Jude and Cardan will still be king and queen of Elfhame by the end of prisoners throne)
Wren’s Magical Powers
Wren is a scary woman now, and she’s POWERFUL. Is she more powerful than Jude and Cardan? maybe? i hope not, but maybe. She was able to “kill” her abusive mother by speaking it into EXISTENCE. WTF. Have mercy Wren!
How Elfhame will approach Wren
Our girl Wren has made Elfhame her enemy by making the ONLY heir to Elfhame her prisoner. It’s obvious Jude will be furious, not just with Wren but with Oak. For going against her and Cardan’s orders of saving Madoc. Will Elfhame go to war? will Jude be angry at herself for freeing Wren in TQON?
Lady Asha
So, I'm assuming she still lives in the palace along side Jude and Cardan. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Jude kicked her out and sent her away. This lady is a B*tch. I'm curious to know what Lady Asha has been up to or rather what she's been scheming.
WHY DID JUDE KICK WREN OUT OF THE PALACE OF ELFHAME??
(Note: Jude is so petty for this, although I believe there is more to this than we might currently know, maybe Jude didnt do it, maybe it was Oriana or Lady Asha)
It was revealed that Jude ordered her guards to remove Wren from the palace. but WHY?? Why didn’t Oak intervene? Why did jude do it?
In TQON, Jude suggested to Oak that if he decided to wed Suren, then she could reside in the palace with them. This implies that Jude was comfortable with Suren living along side them in Elfhame. SOOO IM CONFUSED!!! I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS! and I want ANSWERS HOLLY BLACK !
Family Reunion: Oriana, Madoc, Oak, Taryn, Jude and Vivi.
Jude lives in the palace, while Madoc has been exiled and captured. Taryn has a kid and lives in Locke’s estates, Vivi lives in the mortal world with Heather. It's evident that they have gone their separate ways. It’s not TCP chapter 1 anymore, where they all eat dinner together and play games.
i have to be honest and say that i miss them together. and so does Oriana. In TSH she admitted to missing and wishing they were all together again. I hope to see some kind of reunion.
"I know," She [Oriana] said. "I cannot hope for one side to win neither. I used to wish that Madoc never went looking for those girls, and now all I wish is that we could be together again as we once were." (TSH, Chap 3, pg 55)
Locke’s Father
Holly has said many times that she wanted to do something about Locke’s Father (Yes, he’s still alive) I wonder if he’ll be introduced in this book.
Vivi and Wren
Wren was very hurt when Vivi stated she wanted wren away from oak in TQON. I want to see them together, maybe Vivi will apologize. Maybe they’ll become besties.
i hope they do, they just HAVE TO.
-
I’ll probably make a part 2. But what are you guys excited to see?

SPOILERS PRISONER'S THRONE
I think when Oak glimpses Jude's terror when Suren proposes to remove something from her - something that, according to Oak, Jude apparently doesn't want to be undone - I think that, as much as it makes sense since Jude is someone who hates her vulnerabilities, hates being vulnerable above all, that something in particular wasn't the geas given by Dain.
You see, beyond the fact that Oak never wanted to be the heir to the Throne of Elfhame, and apparently won't be, now that the choice has finally been given to him, there are still many comments about the lack of a son of Jurdan, the reasons for this, and other indications of the theme, such as when Oak wonders if Cardan sees in Leander the son he doesn't have with Jude, or even when, at the beginning of the book, Jude's contraceptives are on display. It has been some time since that scene, meaning that Jude may have stopped taking them at some point, which means that, yes, the thing she feared being undone for a moment could actually be her baby in the womb. Remember that she held her abdomen tightly when the curse of Valeriam was torn from her, and although the plot suggests that she did this because of Wren's power, there is still the possibility that she did it as a kind of reflex to protect her child.
If it's not that in the end, I still think that, at some point after or during these events, Jude stopped taking contraceptives. Being who she is, motherhood will be quite a question, both because Jude probably considers this baby an additional weakness and because she fears the implications of raising a mixed-race child in Elfhame, where many people hate her just for being mortal.
Guys, I thought Jude touched her abdomen in the scene where Wren removes Valerian's curse, but in reality she touched her chest. Sorry guys! But I still think Jude might be pregnant

✏️✏️✏️
Last week, Vivi came to visit completely unannounced. A movie marathon for Halloween! She said. It'll be fun! She assured us. Taryn tried to turn her down at first, being 7 months into her pregnancy, she understandably found the idea risky. But Vivi being Vivi, she would not give up. And frankly, Taryn did need some family time and support. With no parents, no siblings and no husband by her side, although she doesn’t want to admit it, it must surely be difficult.
Meanwhile, Cardan immediately agreed despite our status. The High Queen and High King going to the mortal world only to watch movies? It’s a rather shameless behavior to display so soon, but Vivi said it makes us audacious for some reason that I didn't quite understand. The audacity! Or whatever.
Though to be completely honest, I'm pretty sure Cardan only wants to go for the caramel popcorn and to see Oak again. Oak who's now the only member of his "lineage" that he more or less appreciates. I'm worried. Nephew and uncle are maybe starting to get along too much. When Vivi found out Oak had punched a kid at school, instead of feeling sorry or ashamed Oak said "Someone who doesn’t respect others shouldn't complain about getting payback." Cardan said it wasn't his fault and it sounded more like something I would say. I beg to differ but he likes my begging so I just agreed and moved on. Vivi noted that he’s turning out to be a sassy child.
Now, we're lying down on the carpet while Taryn and Oak are on the sofa, Vivi is making the popcorn. She still isn't entirely back to being together-together with Heather. Should've figured, if she were I don't think she would've invited us. I hope things turn out well for them.
"Who wants it with caramel!?" Vivi asks from the kitchen, her head tilted to the side from the doorway so she can see us.
Cardan and Taryn lazily raise their hands.
"Who wants it salted?"
Oak and I raise our hands. Cardan looks at Oak like he’s incredibly brave for that, I roll my eyes. Salt only reduces or stops a fae’s ability to use magic for a limited amount of time, it’s not that big of a deal. I swear Cardan loves to overreact and exaggerate the dumbest things. The other day, I came back dragging the head of a traitor behind me to show the folk they can trust me to protect them. Meanwhile, Cardan said, "You know I love you but please think about the smell it’ll leave on the carpets." Well, Cardan dear, we’re King and Queen, we can get new carpets anytime if the smell doesn’t wear off. Also, Taryn is terrific at home decor anyway, I bet she enjoys decorating and redecorating our halls.
Oak puts his small hand on Taryn’s belly, then his ear against it. He’s excited at the idea of becoming an "unkie" to his future niece like Cardan is to him.
As soon as Vivi’s back with the popcorn, the movie starts. The good thing about watching movies at home is that you won’t be done with the popcorn before the commercials end. And although she’s the one who invited us, she keeps talking over the movie’s beginning, asking us how we’re doing and what stuff has been going on in our "fairytale hellhole." Then it quickly goes to the uncomfortable questions.
"So. Rynryn, I heard that a half-fae dude has the hots for you. How’s that going?"
Taryn cringes.
"Oh please, Larkin is ridiculous. Trying to court a widowed woman who’s still pregnant with the child of her late husband? He has no delicacy."
Cardan raises an eyebrow.
"The husband who died by the hands of his wife, you mean." I hit him on the shoulder and he utters a fake sounding ow. Oak is right there, I widen my eyes at him to make him understand but what’s done is done. Oak turns to Taryn once again.
"Why did you kill your husband?" Oak asks curiously with no discernible malice in his gaze or voice. Taryn smiles politely.
"He didn’t bear for me the kind of love that satisfied me nor did he treat my opinions and feelings with enough respect. And you know what that means?"
"People with no respect deserve payback!"
Taryn smiles and puts her hand on Oak’s horned head to praise him. Cardan and I look at each other a bit astonished. So that behavior partly came from Taryn, huh. I’m afraid that at this rate, he’ll become an amalgamation of all of our personalities. No matter. Vivi presses a bit further, putting Taryn back on track which only results in complaints from Taryn’s part.
"I swear he only ever wears plain and boring outfits, even for revels and casual occasions. Not to mention he has no common sense, poor table manners and his attempts at flirting are horrid, frustrating and awkward. How is he supposed to be a spy and assassin if he can’t even put two and two together? No way can he gain the trust of any of his targets that way." She suspiciously over-explains everything wrong with Larkin. Vivi smiles at her knowingly.
"Hmm. I don’t know, to me it sounds like he already caught his target." Vivi says.
"Why are you paying so much attention to him?" Oak chimes in with more accusations.
Taryn shifts her attention back to the TV, a furrow forming on her eyebrows. She tells us we should focus on the movie instead of whatever she thinks of Larkin. Which is none of our business, by the way. And so we do, we watch. Cardan seems to display no particular difficulty in understanding the images and plot but he’s much more entertained by the popcorn. That is until it runs out and he lets himself get swept away. His tail stands up straight like a cat’s every time he’s surprised by the sudden sounds or imagery, namely the jumpscares. It’s cute how his face doesn’t show his fear at all, he seems to be completely unphased if you ignore the tail. I suppose it must’ve been why he hid it all those years. It puts his emotions on display. Making his feelings obvious.
Near the middle, Oak is too tired to continue watching. Vivi puts him to bed. Near the end, Vivi and Taryn somehow manage to fall asleep on the couch. Vivi most likely because she’s not scared of horror movies in the first place, and Taryn because our presence hopefully calmed her down. In the end, this was mainly for us to get together again. Vivi may be clumsy with her words sometimes, but she’s still the same older sister who hugged us when we got into trouble or scraped our knees while falling on the concrete grounds of our neighborhood. I sigh.
While trying to get up, Cardan stops me. He whispers.
"Let’s sleep here."
I widen my eyes at him.
"On the floor?"
"On the carpet, dear."
I roll my eyes.
"I’m sure Vivi won’t mind if we borrow her bed for the night, as long as…" I don’t finish but Cardan gives me a sly smile nonetheless which makes me hit his shoulder lightly.
We get up and I properly tuck Vivi and Taryn in, leaving them to sleep comfortably on the sofa. Then we go to Vivi’s room and make the bed together. Well. "Make" is a big word, we’re both embarrassingly inept at tidying things up since our attendants do it for us. We just cover the bed with a cover we’ll sleep on, tucked in under another new cover so we don’t have to truly "get" into her bed.
As we lay there about to fall asleep, Cardan attempts to talk to me before I manage to make my way into dreamland, as he often does.
"Don’t you miss such things? Movies, popcorn, late night talks with your siblings? We could do that more often."
I smile and grab his tail, pulling it to my front so I can play with the tuft to fall asleep faster. It relaxes me. Cardan has enough only with hugging me, his arms just under my chest, and if his hands wander around to go higher when I’m too tired, I hit them away and he gets the hint.
"It’s fine. I believe it’s better for me to slowly move away from that, eventually we could try meeting in Faerie all together. There won’t be movies anymore, but the food can be brought here."
I’m not sure what face Cardan is making right now, but I think he didn’t like that answer judging by how his tail is flailing around.
"Don’t give up on that. I wish I always had that." He pauses then squeezes me tighter in his arms. "Or is it because of…"
I want my body to stay strong and healthy. My case is arguably completely different from other humans since I’m the Queen, but I’m not willing to risk it. When I reach my mid thirties or so, I’m thinking of stopping my trips to the human world. I hold onto Cardan’s tail in confirmation. And as I start to believe this might be the end of the conversation, he says one last thing before we fall asleep.
"We could try to install electricity in Faerie…"
I smile.

(i sound so chronically online here sorry 😭 -) I just realized this may be the last time we see wren like we might see oak again but maybe not wren. and they're not popular enough to get another pov book like jurdan is going to get and whether or not they get a short story or novella is also not set in stone there's the possibility they might get valerie / ravus treatment and the last time valravus was mentioned was in the short story lament of lutie loo 2019 after their book was released 14 years before, which was so nothingburger for them because it was no real interaction lutie just got to know val is pregnant now and it was mainly kaye roiben focused also. after that ravus gets mentioned now and then cause hes an important fae but val not even known by name (she is mortal). no bc. what if oakwren is the valravus to jurdans kaye/roiben. SUICIDE PREPONED
ANON I WAS LITERALLY THINKING THE SAME THINGGGGGG I was like "Hmmm Kaye and Roiben are in p much every Elfhame book, but wasn't there another story in that series?" And then I realized the fact that I had to ask myself was my answer. I don't want Oak and Wren to suffer the same fate. What if they were sent to Canada to be forgotten at the farm of nontrendy HB leads. Oak gets a pass bc he is part of the family and the family is always always gonna get screentime, but what about Wren??? Ok I’m probably making people tired constantly talking about my Jurdan dream but I just got an idea for the story and what it would be about
Ok here is the story and plot
Jude is pregnant with child on the first day she is pregnant Cardan can sense she is pregnant with his child he is unsure how to feel
He is nervous about being a father because he feels he’ll be a horrible father like his father was to him and his siblings (let’s face it considering how messed the previous greenbriar family was we can think that Eldred was a horrible father to all of his children)
Ok he has doubts Jude has a magical pregnancy that keeps her belly flat This is why faeries kidnap mortal women often because many mortal women end up dying by faerie pregnancies (Jude won’t die here)
Elsewhere Kotetchi the deathless hears about the beauty of the queen of elfhame he uses his magic mirror to be a pervert and ogle her and spy on her The keotetchi likes what it sees
Anyway, Jude finds out she’s pregnant and about faerie pregnancies she’s happy she finds out Cardan isn’t as happy. They talk and Jude tries to comfort him, Cardan still has his doubts, Jude kisses his forehead and tells him why don’t we go to a parenting class?
Cardan agrees but The day before they go, the kotechi tries to kidnap Jude Cardan rescues her and cancels the trip it tries again and on the third time it kidnaps Jude
Cardan goes to mother marrow and asks how he can rescue his wife. Mother Marrow says the land is protecting Jude from the kotetchi but she is in a deep slumber. He must wake his queen.
To do this Cardan must go to Madoc and to the underworld to face his father.
Cardan goes to Madoc and tells him what happened. Madoc of course goes berserk and blames Cardan. But Sees Cardan blames himself.
Madoc’s and decides to help Cardan he gives Cardan a task to feed the scrawny horse madoc has and to Madoc’s rusty old sword. Cardan takes care of the horse for a week. All the while worried for Jude.
The horse grows to magnificence, and Helps him find the rusty sword which once cleaned turns to a sword that will cut anything. Madoc tells Cardan rescue his daughter or he will kill the king with his bare hands. Cardan says he expects no less.
Then the horse leads him to the underworld. Where Eldred is. Eldred sneers at him. And Cardan realizes he can be better than his father was at being a father. He tells his father so. And his father feeling his hinted insulted challenges him.
Cardan is able to beat his father and is rewarded a knife which can kill the kotetchi.
Cardan goes and finds Jude. He feels her love and belief in him. He wakes her with a kiss. They hug.
The kotechi roars. And promises to kill Cardan and rape his wife in front of his corpse. Jude is ready to fucking kill the kotetchi. But Cardan uses his vines and cuts the kotechi in half and stabs him in the heart. In a way letting go of his past of bad parental figures.
Jude and Cardan return home. And live happily. On Jude’s due date she gives birth to twins. And cardan and Jude live happily with their children.
The end
As you can see this is post QON idea

Pregnant Jurdan, part 3
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 4
I’ve never considered myself a particularly vain person. At least no more than literally anyone else in Faerie. But standing in front of the mirror I can’t help but be thrown off by my appearance.
As usual, I’m in a gown, this one made of gossamer the color of autumn leaves with different embroidered patterns of acorns and trees and tiny animals. None of that bothers me. It’s the noticeably small curve of my stomach that cannot be hidden in the tight dress.
Ever since my arrival in Elfhame, I’ve trained. And because of this I’ve always been made of tight muscle and strong limbs. Despite knowing this is obviously nothing to be ashamed of, I can’t help but feel insecure. It makes me feel all too human.
I place my hands at the bottom of my bump, a sigh escaping my lips. “I’m trying guys. I’m trying.” Over the last few weeks I’ve taken to talking to my little gremlins, and Taryn insists that it’s important so I’ve let the habit persist. Sometimes it’s nice to talking without needing a response.
And tonight we’re telling our kingdom about them. We’re announcing that there will be heirs to the throne. Our legacy will continue. There will be lots of responses.
Just another day as Queen of Elfhame.
***
I’m forced to sit through dinner, Cardan at one end of the table, me at the other. Meat has lost its allure to me during pregnancy, but I pretend to pick at roasted quail and make conversation with my people around me. No one’s commented on my figure. Either out of politeness or that they could care less about their human queen.
Across the long table I catch Cardan’s eye, and he gives me a subtle wink, his crown crooked on his brow. I let the action relax my shoulders and sit up straighter. Tonight the people will be celebrating me whether they like it or not.
I cannot take the tension in my shoulders anymore. I stand suddenly, my chair pushed back loudly and ungracefully. The room of people silents in a wave; first those closest to me and then towards the edges of the room. Cardan eyes me questioningly, a dark eyebrow raised slightly, but he does not stand. I can see our Counsel looking nervous and shooting me warning glares.
This was not the plan.
I have never followed orders well.
“Lords and ladies of Elfhame,” I project, willing all the command into my voice as possible. I have to try twice as hard as Cardan at everything I do. “My king and I are very grateful for your presence tonight.”
They glance at Cardan who just raises his cup of wine approvingly.
I clear my throat so that they look back at me. “Although we don’t celebrate any holidays or anniversary of our people tonight, we have something else to celebrate.” I keep my hands at my side, not wanting them to drift to my stomach. I’m sure by now some of them are already connecting the dots for themselves. Otherwise my subjects are much denser than I originally thought.
“Tonight,” I say, hoping my pause is drawn out enough for the dramatics of court, “we celebrate the coming arrival of the heirs to the throne.”
The silence that follows is louder than a room full of angry pixies. It feels like the eight years of their disapproval is packed into their silence. And it makes me angry. Cardan makes a move to stand up, but I hold my hand up to stop him.
“Yes, I am carrying heirs.” I let the statement fall over the room again, my voice even louder than before. I make eye contact with as many of them as possible. “Two more Greenbriar’s for you all to swear your loyalty to. Our children will be raised to love the courts of Elfhame, but they will also be raised to rule.”
My mouth curls into something that I hopes looks like a smile of nonchalance. Nothing is wrong. “Now we have something to celebrate,” I declare, picking up my glass even though I have no intention of drinking its contents.
The look on Cardan’s face is one of pride, and it makes my heart clench the tiniest bit. He stands in a much more graceful motion than I did, holding his glass still. “To Queen Jude and our future heirs,” he toasts.
This seems to shake the room out of their shock and glasses are being picked up and toasts echoed. I try not to let my annoyance of them responding to Cardan more than me show. I know I have done nothing but deserve their respect. I will not throw a fit about it.
Even though there’s nothing I’d rather do than retreat to the comfort of my chambers, I do not want my people to think me any weaker because of pregnancy. So, I push on. I dance with lords and trade pleasantries with ladies and let myself be pulled into the lull of the night.
It takes all of my energy to stay on my feet all night.
***
Cardan doesn’t allow any servants into our chambers following the announcement. He carefully undoes the line of buttons down my back and takes out each pin from my hair holding my crown of braids together. He delicately takes a wet cloth over my face to take off my paint and presses kisses randomly to my exposed skin.
I don’t fight him on this. I’m far too exhausted, and his willingness to dote on me makes me fall just a little bit more in love. How far we’ve come since the beginning.
When he’s done shedding me of the night’s apparel, he swoops me into his arms and carries me to our giant bed. Right now it looks like a slice of heaven. The sheets are softer than usual and his hands lighter. He traces the curves of my body until both his hands cup my stomach, and his chin rests on my shoulder.
This is how we sleep most of the time. He doesn’t hold me like I’m about to break, which I appreciate. Instead he holds me like I’m responsible for creating the world. Like I’m the reason stars hang in the sky and the oceans rise toward the moon. It makes me feel powerful, and if there’s anything I know about myself, it’s that I crave power.
“You were very impressive tonight, my love,” he whispers into my ear. His breath so close to my skin it makes me shiver.
“Our people need to respect me. And they need to respect our children.” I place a hand over one of his on my belly.
He chuckles quietly. “Hear that kids? Mom’s a badass.”
“Where did you learn that word?”
“Oak I think.”
I roll my eyes, wondering what Oriana thinks of Oak’s growing vocabulary in the mortal world. She probably doesn’t approve of it. “I’m supposed to be the bad influence, Cardan. Don’t take my job.”
“Are you kidding? Between the two of us, it’ll be a surprise if they have any good influence.” I can hear the laughter in his voice. He’s imagining teaching them how to pick pockets and tangle words so they’re not lies. I can feel the wheels turning in his head.
Our kids are definitely screwed.

WHOO! I had a lot of fun writing this! I really appreciate the love you show this fic and I hope you continue to do so!
Do you think Jude would want to see a human doctor? Or that one of her sisters would insist so? I think that could be interesting but let me know what you guys think!

Jurdan Secret Pregnancy

One year after the end of Queen Of Nothing
Chapter 3
[Jude’s POV]
I had been sitting on my couch watching some crappy reality show when it knocked on the door. Not thinking too much of it and being heavily pregnant I didn’t get up to open the door. But when it kept knocking on the door, I hauled myself upwards and out to the worn-down door opening it.
“Hello wife.”
The last one I ever would have expected to see here was Cardan, in all honestly over the last few weeks I have wished for nothing more than for him to find me, but now when it is happening, I cannot process it properly. It is like going into shock.
I immediately shut the door in his face, but before it closed entirely Cardan put his foot in between the door and himself, effectively keeping it open.
He pulls me outside and the door shuts close behind me. I try to wrist myself away from him, but he just tightens his grip on my waist. He lifts me up in bridal style carrying me down the stairs and the entire way out to the leaf covered ground.
“PUT ME DOWN CARDAN!” I scream at him, trashing around but being careful not to let the bump touch anything.
He looks down at me with a sceptical eye, before looking down on my swollen stomach. He almost drops me there, and I was convinced that if he hadn’t been carrying me, he would have dropped to his knees.
“Cardan, put me down.”
He just looks me in the eyes and narrowing his so slight wrinkles appear around his beautiful black eyes. “I don’t care what you want anymore Jude, you are coming with me and that is the end of the story. You hear me?” Fuck he can be scary when he is serious, and he rarely ever is.
 ***
When we had arrived at the palace Cardan had put me down to the ground, dragging me towards our bedroom chambers in a bruising grip.
For once the palace was dead as the night, and it was highlight daytime.
“Get in there” Cardan said throwing the doors open and dragging me towards me glorious bed.
“You. You sit your ass down right here and don’t you dare move a fucking inch! Understood?” He took my head between his warm hands, cupping my cheeks looking at me with loving eyes. He can make me go soft with just the tiniest emotion from him. He was my everything. He still is.
He always will be.
“I don’t need to listen to you.” At that point he was fuming, and I could almost see smoke coming out of his ear, and in rage he grabs my waist and pulls me towards him, careful not to crush the baby.
“Listen wife, I don’t care what you want because no matter what you say you are queen and you are my wife, and you need a goddamn lesson because you have been a bad little girl, but I will not give it to you now considered your current condition.” He roars out, almost like he still was a deadly black snake.
Who knows, it might even be his spirit animal.
With that he walked out of the door, closing and locking it behind him.
That was when I realized that he had planned to do.
He was going to hold me a prisoner in my own home.

Chapter 11: A Special Delivery
Tumblr media
Jude’s screams shook through the palace. Her labor had drawn in dark clouds over the kingdom, but it did not dim the excitement that felt almost tangible in the air.
At first Jude had tried to bite her lip through the painful contractions, but once she began to taste blood she could not help but yell through the pain. Cardan was beside her holding her hand through the process, looking equally terrified as he was fascinated, which only irritated Jude as she tried to listen to Tatterfell’s instructions on when to push and when to breathe.
She had only been pushing for an hour, but for Jude it felt like an eternity. At this point, she would have preferred to be sliced through again than to deal with the ongoing contractions.
“My Queen, one final push, I can see the child.” Tatterfell instructed.
The last of Jude’s screams echoed the small chambers as Tatterfell pulled the newborn into a blanket, as another nurse cut the umbilical cord. Jude fell back onto the bed, her face flushed and dripping in sweat.
Cardan kissed Jude’s sweat covered forehead. Even though she might have fractured a few bones in his hand, his face did not show it. The king was beaming with pride and what seemed to be disbelief, as his eyes shifted between his beautiful wife and the child now in his arms. He brought the child down into Jude’s chest.
The baby girl was wrapped up almost like a present, the best present she could have imagined. Her head was already covered in long black hair, just like Cardan’s, but when she opened her eyes Jude saw the child had eyes like fire. The outer irises were black, but inside was a beautiful brown with flecks of gold. Her face was beautiful even as a loud wail escaped the newborn’s lips.
All of her fears seemed to melt when she held her in her arms. Everything she had gone through had been building to this moment.
“You are amazing, Jude,” Cardan murmured lovingly, bringing his hand to rest behind the newborn’s head. For the briefest moment, Jude broke her gaze from the baby to look at her husband. The look on Cardan’s face was one that she had never seen before. He had tears in his eyes with a gaze so soft as he admired the bundle. When the newborn grabbed his finger, Jude watched him come undone; an audible gasp escaped his lips.
She knew in that moment that Cardan would walk to the ends of the world, twice, for the daughter in their arms; as would she. Their daughter was already loved so deeply by both of them.
The tender moment was broken, by another contraction. Jude tensed, letting Cardan scope the newborn from her arms, as she gripped the sheets of the bed.
“It is not over yet, there is another coming, my Queen.” Tatterfell said from the foot of the bed, examining her.
“WHAT?” Jude screamed, looking wild with her flushed face and hair already matted against her forehead with sweat from the first delivery. She looked to Cardan to see his reaction, but what she found almost sent her into a blind rage.
There was no shock in Cardan’s face, rather a nervous grin, as he looked at her, then back at their child in his arms. Their first child.
He knew. Of course he knew.
“WHEN I SAID I WANTED IT TO BE A SURPRISE, I MEANT THE GENDER NOT THAT I WAS CARRYING TWINS.” Jude roared.
Before she could curse Cardan for keeping the secret, another contraction rippled through her body. Tatterfell went back to instructing Jude and sent the other nurse to grab another blanket.
When a third nurse tried to take the newborn from Cardan, he refused, waving her away without room for discussion. Instead, he took a chair next to the bed, holding the baby girl in one hand and comforting his wife with the other.
This time, Jude’s wails were accompanied by another screaming voice. Cardan cooed the baby, while Jude continued to push their second child into the world.
With a final push, Tatterfell wrapped the bundle and brought the newest baby into Jude’s arms.
This time it was a baby boy, with tufts of hair the same brown as her own. Tears fell from Jude’s eyes as the baby was given to her; partially from exhaustion, but mostly from the overwhelming love she felt for her babies. She held him close to her chest. Cardan handed her the girl in his arms, so for the first time Jude was able to admire both of her babies in all their wonder.
While every parent believed their child was the most beautiful, the half faerie blood flowing in their veins truly made them look perfect. Tatterfell, who had delivered many babies in her time, acknowledged the beautiful twins and congratulated the couple.
The little boy resembled Jude in all ways except one; poking out from his blanket was a tiny tail with a tuft of brown hair. It fluttered around as the tiny babe looked at both Jude and Cardan with his big brown eyes.
The little girl had managed to fall asleep in Cardan’s arms despite the sounds of Jude’s labor. She had a feeling that the little girl was the one who responded so eagerly to Cardan’s touch in the later months of her pregnancy.
“Are there any more babies I should expect?” Jude asked, exhaustion clear in her voice.
Cardan looked at her and laughed. “Not for a few months at least.”
The smirk on his face, plus the meaning behind his words sent a wave of heat and excitement through her. However, the pain of the labor was still very real. Cardan would be lucky if she risked even sleeping in the same bed after this.
The two stayed there holding the babies for a long time before Jude began to lose the battle against the urge to sleep. Cardan was the first to notice her drooping eyelids and the way her head kept snapping as sleep tried to take her.
“I will take them to the nursery so you can rest.” Cardan said quietly.
Jude was too tired to argue. She wanted to keep holding on to their little bodies forever, but she was also partially afraid she would drop them if she fell asleep on accident. Reluctantly, she nodded and let Cardan take each of them in his arms.
Tatterfell appeared at the door and followed Cardan into the next room which was commissioned into a nursery. Jude insisted that the baby, well babies now, be kept close by even if nurses would be helping to take care of them while they were growing up.
Jude’s eyes lingered for a moment on the doorframe separating their rooms before finally falling asleep.
___________________________________________________
When Jude woke, she was alone.
“Cardan?” She called. Instead of her husband, it was Tatterfell who emerged from the nursery.
“Your majesty, it is time we cleaned you up.” The imp woman said.
Jude did not realize how sore she was until she tried to walk to the bathroom. The sight was not a pretty one, but her old nurse helped her into the bath, combed her hair into a simple braid, and dressed her in new clothes. By the time she reentered the bedroom, the servants had replaced the bed with fresh sheets and Cardan was sitting on a sofa, both babies squirming in his arms.
The sight of her new family was almost too much to bear, Jude thought she might burst into tears again at the wonderful view.
She crossed the room and took a spot next to Cardan.
“I am glad that there are two of us, because it turns out that despite having two arms, it is difficult to tend to both at the same time.” Cardan said somewhere between a joke and genuine concern. The boy had started to fuss, which caused his twin to let out a wail as well.
Jude reached for a baby, grabbing the girl. She rocked the little one until her cries stopped. Pressed against her skin, she felt her and the child both relax. Meanwhile, Cardan gently bounced the boy until he too went back to sleep.
“Well I suppose we are doing better at this parent thing than I thought,” Jude said in all seriousness.
Cardan slid closer to her. In return, Jude leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder, breathing in his scent mixed in with the smell of newborns. So much had changed in less than a day and things would keep changing.
“I suppose it is time to decide on names.” Jude said with a sigh.
Cardan mimicked her sigh, teasing her reluctance. “I suppose it is. Shall I name this one and you name that one?”
Jude thought about giving him a sour look, but was still too tired to put up much of a fight. Instead she said, “Sure, especially since I had only planned on us having to figure out a name for one.” She would not be letting that go anytime soon. “What will we call that one?”
Cardan perked up at her answer, clearly expecting her to have refused and surprised when she didn’t. Cardan’s eyes fell to the sleeping child. Jude had never seen him look so innocent as he did looking at their children. Any trace of the cruel prince she once knew was gone. He was completely captivated in their presence.
“Do you like the name Ellis?” Cardan finally asked, looking uncharacteristically timid. “It reminds me a bit of the name Alice.”
Jude looked at the child, and nodded with a smile. “I think it is perfect.”
Ellis. His soft features so much like her own. There were so many things she hoped for him. Hopefully, his and his sister’s lives would be much easier than her or Cardan’s had been.
“Now to name this one,” Cardan murmured.
Jude thought through the short list of names that she had come up with, but realized that none of the names seemed to fit the beautiful baby that resembled so much of Cardan. Jude thought of the child’s fire like eyes and knew the name that would fit her.
“Ember.” Jude said at last. Cardan smiled widely and nodded.
“It suits her well.”
Cardan pressed his lips to the top of her head, both of them savoring their first moments of parenthood together, when a loud knock at the door interrupted their thoughts.
Before either could say anything, the door swung open and in came Oak holding a dozen floating balloons. Behind him was Taryn and the Ghost with her niece at their feet looking around curiously. The Ghost looked a little out of place holding a bag that said “Congrats!” with a picture of a pacifier on it, but his presence next to Taryn had become a new normal.
Behind them came Vivi and Heather, between the two of them they had nearly 12 bags of all sizes hanging off their arms. Following up the back was the Roach and the Bomb, who also held what appeared to be presents in their hands, although theirs were wrapped in beautiful cloth obviously not bought from the mortal world.
“Congratulations!!” Vivi and Oak yelled at the same time before Taryn and Heather both made shushing noises for them to be more quiet so they wouldn’t disturb the baby.
It was at that moment that the room realized that not only was Cardan holding a baby, but Jude was as well.
“TWINS?” Screamed half the crowd, the other half too shocked to speak.
“Did you know?”
“Why didn’t you tell me!?”
“They are so beautiful.”
“Why don’t they look the same like Jude and Taryn?”
“We should have brought more gifts.”
Cardan and Jude tried their best to answer the bombardment of questions. While a part of Jude missed the quiet silence from a moment ago, she could not help but laugh at the scene.
Taryn took a spot next to her, admiring the babies.
“Congratulations, Jude. They are wonderful." After a moment, she looked at Jude and asked, "How are you feeling?”
Jude smiled at her sister. “Thank you, I am doing okay. Honestly, better than okay. It seems surreal,” Jude admitted, pulling the baby closer to her. “Thank you for your help over the last few months.”
Taryn smiled, taking a hand to brush Ember’s dark hair. Jude motioned to Taryn to hold the baby, which she quickly accepted, pulling the baby into her arms. Of everyone in the room, Taryn had the most experience with babies after having her own. Jude trusted her sister even though her heart already ached from being away from her babies.
Oak popped up in front of them, leaning over to see the babies faces with a wide smile. “So one of them will become king or queen right? Now I don’t have to?”
“When the time comes you can make your decision,” Cardan said with an earnest smile. “There will be no plot to stick an unwanted crown on your head.”
He voice dropped to barely a murmur no longer speaking to anyone but Jude. “Although it certainly can bring some amazingly unexpected outcomes.”
Jude’s heart fluttered when he broke his eyes away from the babies to give her a quick wink.
Everyone took turns fawning over the tiny babies who were now awake from the sounds coming from the large crowd.
As Jude looked around at all the faces of the room, she remembered how isolated her life had been only a few years prior, struggling every hour to grasp at any power she could find. She had her family, but even then she never felt safe. Now, she no longer felt alone. The room had their fair share of betrayals, some larger than others, but somehow everything came to be. Her eyes went from her siblings to the Court of Shadows to the babies and finally Cardan; once her enemy, now so much more.
Danger would always be present, but at least in this moment they were all able to celebrate together.
When she looked at Cardan, she had a feeling he felt the same way.
_____________________________________________________
A short epilogue
A few months later...
“Jude! Come here quick!” Cardan’s voice shouted from the parlor.
Jude was on her feet immediately and ran to see what was wrong. Cardan had been in with the twins for a considerable amount of time, but Jude had not heard anything and assumed all was well.
When she came into the parlor, she was not prepared for the sight before her.
Cardan, dressed in an elaborate outfit as usual, but what caught her attention was the carrier of sorts around his torso, with Ellis strapped to the front of his chest with Ember strapped onto his back. Cardan was beaming and both babies were giggling as they bounced around the room.
When he saw Jude, he quickly waived both hands in front of him. “Jude, look! No hands!”
Jude’s mouth was agape. “Where did you get such a thing?” She demanded, beginning to worry how safe it was and if she would have to catch a falling baby.
Cardan seemed to not share any of her concerns as he continued to move about the room, lightly bouncing with each step which caused both babies to screech with happiness.
“It was a gift from Vivienne. It came this morning. I had a servant help me strap it on.” He explained.
Well, at least the servants secured it. Vivi had periodically sent over gifts from the mortal world and many of them proved to be very useful, although some of the noise making ones had already “accidentally” gone missing. At least this didn’t appear to make sound.
“Isn’t it wonderful Jude? I could hold a goblet in one hand and waive away the Living Counsel with the other. In your case, I suppose you could hold a sword in one and a shield in the other.”
Jude couldn’t help but smile. “Maybe you’re right. Think of the potential. Maybe I will take the twins into the next battle or later night adventure.”
Cardan looked up in horror, afraid she had taken his joke literally.
A large smirk spread like wildfire across her face, revealing her true intention. Cardan recovered quickly from his shock, wearing his own grin.
"Forever, so cruel," he said as the twins giggled from their harnesses.
It seemed that they would never stop torturing each other, they just found new ways to do it.
