JUDE'S POST-LOVE CONFESSION MONOLOGUE

I kept remembering how you'd been the one to get us out of the brugh after Dain's coronation, right before I put the knife to your throat.'

He doesn't try to interrupt, so I have to choice but to barrel on.

'After I tricked you into being High King,' I say. 'I thought once you hated me, I could go back to hating you. But I didn't. And I felt so stupid. I thought I would get my heart broken. I thought it was a weakness that you would use against me. But then you saved me from the Undersea when it would have been much more convenient to just leave me to rot. What do you imagine Jude looks like physically: Tall, short, curvy, slender, fat, muscular, toned, etc… and how pretty do you think Jude is? Like average looking but pretty enough, Celebrity pretty, Physically extremely beautiful BUT not as beautiful as the faeries, or just very beautiful and to humans a rare beauty but a different beauty from the faerie, etc…

truly i think she just looks so average (in a human sense)—which is not to say she isn't beautiful (i think every human is interesting and beautiful in their own way) but like. she's mortal in a world of faeries, which means her beauty is going to pale in comparison to the unearthly nature of her surroundings. i honestly don't love when people depict her as model-perfect—she's sleep-deprived, literally poisoning herself, and more concerned with making time for her daily workout than having perfect eyeliner. she sweats, musses her hair, tears her clothing, and wears pants even as queen for the sheer convenience

also, she's so buff. just a moderately short, absurdly buff, resting bitchface queen. i love her so much

The best part about Folk of Air is that it's so smart??? Holly Black uses the premise "Fae can't lie, humans can" in such genius ways and I am continuously impressed by it. That's such a cool premise and the execution is reallllyyy cool. It's a perfect setup for political intrigue *and* it's full of whimsy!!

And Jude is such a compelling character. Her drive, her desire to fit in, her desire to acquire social freedom through power is the core of the book. It's Jude feeling powerless that is the cataclysm for almost every event. That's what pulls you in. Power and freedom is what the book is about. I love that about it!

The romance subplot is great and all, but I don't feel myself prioritizing it?? Even so, I love it! I'm not a YA reader usually, and even when I do read YA, I don't engage in them in that way. A lot of fantasy have romances, and rarely do I connect to them emotionally even though I'm such a romance fan but Jude and Cardan have such a unique dynamic that works to *actually* further the story. Cardan is a great character even regardless of the romance subplot, but the premise, the execution, the whimsy, and Jude's motivations and inner world are the core of these books. I think that's why I love it so much.

we know the next book will be in the undersea.

Will it be from Jude or Cardan or Nicassia's POV?

The main couple will be Nicassia and her lover? And, who will be her lover? The one mentioned in the throne's prisoner trying to declare a war on Elfahame??

Finally, will Oak and Wren make an appearance in the books or not???

I have many questions. 😅😅😅 I can't wait to see what Holly Black is keeping for us.
