Poe Museum, Shockhoe Bottom, Richmond, 1987.
The high rise in the distance, a state government office building, was new when the photo was taken. That building is now deemed obsolete and is slated for demolition. The Poe museum, by contrast, is housed in a structure built about 1740, and the museum itself is about to celebrate its centenary.

Eurovision Chat Over Coffee: Chris Semtner, Curator of the Edgar Allan Poe Museum
Austria’s entry to the Eurovision Song Contest is proving to be a community favourite. It takes in the difficulties of making a living on streaming plays, the sexism in the music industry, the need for a celebrity ‘hook’ to get any sort of recognition in the arts… and it’s also a bop.

the angel in the marble calls to me
yearns to wrap me in her cold embrace
in her soft crooning voice, she sings
“you will be enough for me,
as i will be for you”
“but miss, i do not yearn for death.
your request i must deny.”
“such life! astounding waste of breath.”
came her reply
on this, we cannot see eye to eye
her love held nothing but demise
so i draped her with a porcelain cloth
and bid my angel in the marble goodnight

IF someone were to visit the Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia, and IF someone were to visit the Reading Room, and IF someone were to open the poetry box, they MIGHT find an original poem by Gertrude Sturdle that they could take home for their very own.
